A new trailer for Ready Player One, Steven Spielberg's big-screen adaptation of Ernest Cline's popular novel, has been released. As with the first teaser, the video is littered with references to pop culture, and video games are represented by Tracer from Overwatch and Street Fighter's Chun-Li.
They appear very briefly, hidden among the many fictional characters running into battle at the one-minute 59 second mark. Ryu, another Street Fighter character, can also be seen wandering down the freeway right at the start of the trailer. Beyond the video game characters, there's plenty of other recognizable pop culture icons to keep a look out for. Check out the trailer above.
Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan as lead character Wade Watts, a teenager that enters a virtual reality world called Oasis in an attempt to find three "Easter Eggs." These are left by Oasis' eccentric creator, and whoever finds them will receive a life-changing amount of money as well as control of the virtual world itself.
Spielberg previously admitted that while Ready Player One will stay true the novel's reliance on nostalgia for the 1980s, there would be one major omission. "I've cut most of my movies out," he said. "Except for [Back to the Future's] DeLorean and a couple of other things that I had something to do with. I cut a lot of my own references out.
"I was very happy to see there was enough without me that made the '80s a great time to grow up. I think one of the reasons I decided to make the movie was that it brought me back to the '80s and lets me do anything I want. Except with my own movies."
Of course, as indicated by the inclusion of Overwatch's Tracer, the movie is also drawing on more recent sources for its pop culture reference.
Ready Player One hits theaters on March 30, 2018. It was originally scheduled to be released at the end of 2017 but was moved to avoid a clash with Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The movie also stars Olivia Cook, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg, TJ Miller, and Ben Mendelsohn.

The first people to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi are taking to Twitter to deliver their verdicts on the on the forthcoming film. Full reviews won't be up for a few more days, but critics fresh out of the cinemas are offering their two cents, and we've gathered them up for you.
So far it seems The Last Jedi is faring well with critics. In a series of tweets, EW's Anthony Breznican said The Last Jedi "may be the first Star Wars movie that's not just about growing up, but also about growing old."
IGN's Joshua Yehl was equally as enthused about The Last Jedi.

Terri Schwartz, meanwhile, praised the performances of The Last Jedi's cast.
Not only are Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill at their very best as Leia and Luke in this movie, but Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver blow Rey and Kylo Ren out of the park. I didn’t expect where those characters went and it’s my favorite part of the movie. #TheLastJedi
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 17. Its sequel, Star Wars: Episode IX, releases on December 20, 2019. Between those two movies, Solo--the Han Solo standalone film--will debut on May 25, 2018.
This weekend's PlayStation Experience has showed us a great number of new game reveals and announcements, and Endnight's The Forest is no exception. Debuting with a brand-new trailer, the survival horror title is making its way to PS4 in Spring 2018.
After surviving a plane crash that lands in a forest, you're left to fend for yourself. You'll get to enjoy the simple things in life such as fishing, exploring, building forts and the like--but uh, sprinkle some flesh-starved cannibals in there for good measure.
Where this steps aside from the usual survival horror game is that it doesn't have any sort of NPC guidance. There is no quest system, and there is no clear story line to follow. As the player, you truly are left to your own devices to figure out how the world works, and how to stay alive until the sun rises again.
We first saw The Forest in 2013 as an early access title for Steam on PC. Since then, the game still hasn't quite reached a full launch, but it has been iterated on with guidance from its community. This weekend's announcement did not detail if the PS4 launch will be a full or early access launch.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has been netting award nominations at several outlets, and for good reason: it's tense, terrifying, and one of the best entries in the long running series. So, the timing couldn't be better for our playthrough.
And if you thought Mary Kish had an itchy trigger finger before this episode, you have no idea. In fact, one might say her trigger finger is more than itchy. In this episode of Resident Kinevil 7, Mary's trigger finger essentially spasms every five minutes. It definitely doesn't lead to her wasting any ammo, though, so that's good. Anyway. Papers, Please, Lucas Pope's acclaimed indie game in which players assume the role of an immigration officer for the fictional country of Arstotzka, will be available for PlayStation Vita on December 12.
Pope announced the date on Twitter, where he posted a picture of the game running on Sony's handheld with the date attached. Unfortunately, Pope didn't say exactly how much the game will cost, but noted that "it should be roughly if not the same as desktop." Currently, Papers, Please is available on Steam for $9.99/£6.99.
Papers, Please was originally released for PC in August 2013. A year later, it became available on iOS devices. Although a PlayStation Vita version was also announced in 2014, Pope said there were some issues with the port that had to be resolved before it could happen.
"I do want to do a Vita version, but the thing is there's a lot of kind of interesting UI challenges to make it work well on Vita: much smaller screen, much smaller hit targets," he told VG247. "So that kind of stuff interests me to try to figure out how to make it work well on Vita."
In GameSpot's Papers, Please review, Britton Peele said the game "will stress you out" and "at times it may even make you hate yourself."
He continued: "And while it's weird to call such an experience 'enjoyable,' the gameplay itself is not a miserable time. It's worthwhile for the same reasons a depressing novel or a bleak movie can be worthwhile. There are lessons to be learned from Papers, Please, if only to remind ourselves how much worse off we could be."
Outlast and Outlast 2Switch ports are incoming. Right now, we know for sure that both ports will hit the hybrid system in Q1 2018.
Developer Red Barrels announced the ports via Facebook, thanking fans for sticking around for the last five years, detailing a little more about the future of Outlast, and what fans can expect next year. We don't have a specific release date/price point yet, and no details have been released whether if either port will have any exclusive or additional content.
As for the future of the series, the post details DLC is not in the works for Outlast 2. Fan's cries have been heard regarding more content, but according to the developer the title simply wasn't made with DLC in mind, unlike its predecessor.
Part of the issue with DLC for Outlast 2 is that the ideas just don't work as additional content. The game was designed to "make you feel like a rat in a maze, without any knowledge of what's outside the maze." Not all hope is lost, however. The team is working on a new Outlast-esque experience, though it won't be a sequel.
"Currently we're working on something a lot of you have been asking for... It won't be a sequel to Outlast or Outlast 2, but it will be a distinct experience set in the Outlast universe. We can't say more right now, we first need to make sure we can make it work. Like I mentioned, we strive to be risk-takers and this one is a pretty big challenge. If all goes well, we'll soon be able to reveal more."
As for the next core Outlast title, Red Barrels' post confirms that there is a place for Outlast 3 at some point in time. Currently, the team doesn't have any details or answers to give, but it will eventually happen--but only if fans can outlast the wait.
Sony and Marvel have released a trailer for an unexpected new Spider-Man movie titled Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse. Unlike the other big-screen Spidey flicks, this one is animated, and stars Miles Morales, who started life in the Ultimate Universe but has since crossed over into various other Marvel comic realities.
The trailer, which you can watch below, is incredibly stylish, with vibrant colors and iconic Spider-Man motifs from start to finish. There's almost a sci-fi, Blade Runner-like quality to the way the city is presented and, at one point, comic book visuals quickly flash in and out of a chase sequence--it's incredibly cool.
The inclusion of "Spiderverse" in the title may have tipped you off to one of the other big hooks for this movie: there's more than one Spider-Man. From the looks of it, Miles will be interacting with not just Peter Parker, but other Spideys too.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street are the creative team behind Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse.
As noted in the trailer's YouTube description, the duo are attempting to "bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that's the first of its kind." It continues: "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask."
Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse will hit theaters in Christmas 2018. Lord and Miller were previously working on Star Wars spin-off Solo: A Star Wars Story but the pair were replaced by Ron Howard in June.
