By now, you've probably watched Netflix's newest Marvel series, The Defenders, and obviously, there are quite a few characters from the comic books in it. However, believe it or not, Defenders delivers some cameos from lesser-known Marvel characters throughout the series. Here is who we found during Marvel's newest Netflix show. Warning: There are spoilers ahead.
Matt Murdock/Daredevil
One of the Defenders, Murdock battles with his new life, trying not to become Daredevil.
Jessica Jones
Jessica Jones is still a hard-drinking private detective whose neighbor can't stop sneaking into her place.
Luke Cage
After the events of his solo series, Luke Cage did his time, and he is out of prison.
Danny Rand/Iron Fist
Danny Rand is the fourth member of the Defenders. Compared to the other characters on the team, Rand's character is the biggest departure from his comic book counterpart. He can use his Iron Fist powers for a longer period of time and has a few extra abilities added as well, like healing and controlling his nervous system (allowing him to avoid feeling pain). The comic book version of him is a bit more comedic and fun.
Claire Temple
The only character to have appeared in every Marvel Netflix show is Claire Temple. She's very similar to her comic book counterpart, except--in the comics--she was involved with Luke Cage getting his superpowers. Although, this could be something the show would reveal at a later point.
Colleen Wing
Danny Rand's friend and martial arts master Colleen Wing appears throughout The Defenders. She's very similar to her comic book counterpart, except that in the comics, she has some slight superpowers thanks to her chi-channeling abilities.
Elektra
Elektra returns from the dead to work for the Hand during The Defenders. The comic book version of the character is very similar to the TV version, as she's died, come back from the dead, and worked for the Hand.
Father Lantom
On The Defenders, Murdock goes to Father Lantom's church to repent his sins. In the comics, Lantom is in charge of St. Patrick's Church, but he's much younger and looked after the teenage superhero group The Runaways.
Foggy Nelson
Matt Murdock's best friend and former partner is back for The Defenders, fighting the good fight, verbally. There aren't a lot of differences between the TV and comic book versions of the character. Currently, Nelson and Murdock work together in the comics.
Karen Page
The love of Matt Murdock's life--primarily in the comics--Karen Page makes her return. In the comics, she never became a reporter because she was killed by Bullseye while working as Murdock's secretary.
Stick
Stick appears throughout The Defenders, and he is much like his comic book counterpart. He blind martial arts master trained both Daredevil and Elektra and was a member of the Chaste.
Misty Knight
Misty Knight, the NYC police officer who made her debut in Luke Cage, reappears in The Defenders. The only difference between the TV and comic book versions of the character is that she has a robotic arm in the comics. But look on the bright side, we're one step closer to that being the case in the Netflix universe after she lost her arm in a fight.
Trish Walker
Jessica Jones' closest friend is Trish Walker, a talk-show host who went through some traumatic events during the Jessica Jones series. In the comics, Walker was the superhero Hellcat, who is one of Marvel's earliest heroes.
Jeri Hogarth
Jeri Hogarth is primarily from the first season of Jessica Jones, but she checks in during the second episode of The Defenders. In the comics, Jeri Hogarth is a man named Jeryn, who is Danny Rand's attorney.
Shaft
No, this isn't the character made famous by Richard Roundtree during the '70s. We don't learn a lot about The Defenders version of Shaft, who only appears in the opening scene of the first episode. However, in the comics, he's a member of the Chaste, which fights the Hand.
Turk Barrett
We saw Turk very briefly this season, as Luke Cage was trying to get answers from him in the bar. In the comics, Turk is a low-level crook who Daredevil has beaten up numerous times throughout the years.
Bakuto
Bakuto seemingly died during Season 1 of Iron Fist, but he returns in The Defenders. The comic book version of the character is very much like his small screen counterpart; he's the leader of the South American branch of The Hand. Warning: The next slide is a huge spoiler for the finale of The Defenders.
Sister Maggie (Mentioned)
Finally, there's a huge cameo for Daredevil fans, even though she doesn't appear on screen. When Matt Murdock wakes up at the end of the season--after apparently dying alongside Elektra--a nun sitting on his bed says, "Get Maggie. Tell her he's awake." This is referring to Sister Maggie, who is Murdock's biological mother. She played a big role in the "Guardian Devil" storyline, written by director Kevin Smith. Did you see someone we missed? 13 Incredibly Unlikely Star Wars Spin-Offs
With the Han Solo movie due for release next May, there is much speculation about what other Star Wars spin-offs will follow. Last week, it was reported that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in development, and there have been rumors about potential spin-offs featuring Yoda and Boba Fett. But with so many characters across the franchise, there are dozens of deserving subjects that may never get the chance to feature in their own movie. Let's look at 13 potentially awesome Star Wars spin-offs that we will almost certainly never see…
Maul
The prequel trilogy is much maligned, but there are a few things to like in every film. Most fans agree that Darth Maul is one of the franchise's best villains, and that he didn't get nearly enough screentime in The Phantom Menace. A Darth Maul movie is the answer. Who wouldn't want to see the early adventures of the budding Sith apprentice, enforcing the will of evil Darth Sidious while perfecting his double-ended lightsaber moves and acrobatic skills? Of course, he already appears in the animated show Star Wars Rebels, having survived being bisected by Obi-Wan in The Phantom Menace, but there's definitely room for more Maul action on the big screen.
The Kesselball Run
The Star Wars universe is filled with references to characters, places, and events that are not featured in the movies but add to the overall mythology. One of the first was the Kessel Run, the hyperspace smugglers' route that Han claims he once made in 12 parsecs. Of course, it's possible this event will occur within the upcoming Solo movie--but we'd also like to see a Solo-free film about the run itself. The smugglers who made it, those who died along the way, the thrilling chases between space pirates and the Empire...
Ugnaught!
Everyone is excited to see Donald Glover's portrayal of Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo movie--but what about Lando's porcine Cloud City employees, the Ugnaughts? Sadly, we may never get to see the Ugnaught film, a zany look at life in the clouds, dismantling droids, freezing space smugglers, and getting up to all sort of crazy hijinks. But we can at least imagine how hilarious that movie would be.
Chirrut & Baze
There were so many new characters in last year's spin-off Rogue One that there wasn't a lot of time to spend on most of them. The most interesting members of the movie's doomed team--and the characters most deserving of their own spin-off--were Baze Malbus and Chirrut Îmwe. Before the Empire forced them to live on the streets of Jedha, this kickass duo were Guardians of the Whills, who used their awesome fighting skills to protect the temple of Kyber. Come on Lucasfilm, we want to see more of Baze blasting and Chirrut laying down some intergalactic kung-fu!
Lando Calrissian: Undercover Agent
Luke and Leia's plan to rescue Han from Jabba the Hutt in Return of the Jedi isn't particularly well thought-out, given they are caught easily and very nearly eaten by a Sarlacc. However, the one bit of the plan that did make sense was sending Lando into Jabba's palace as an undercover guard, and that's the movie we want: a Star Wars-spin on The Departed, in which Lando works with Jabba while secretly communicating with the rebels, formulating a plan to bust Solo out, and trying not to get caught.
Gone With The Windu
Samuel L. Jackson has made no secret of the fact he'd love to reprise his role of Jedi master Mace Windu in a spin-off movie, if only because he spends so much of the prequel trilogy sitting in a chair. Mace suffers an unfortunate demise in Revenge of the Sith, but as Jackson points out, "We know Jedi can fall from incredible heights and survive. So, apparently, I am not dead!" And even if he is, who's to say that we couldn't have a Force Ghost movie? Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda, and Mace, hanging out together in a cosmic netherworld...
Probe Droid Blues
The Empire Strikes Back begins with dozens of probe droids being blasted into space from a Star Destroyer, in search of the rebels' secret base. We all know what happened to the probe that reached Hoth. But what about the others? Perhaps Lucasfilm could consider a movie in the traditional of Wall-E or Castaway, where a lonely droid uses his probing skills to discover true happiness within himself on a distant planet.
Max Rebo Vs The Modal Nodes
This gripping musical drama tells of the conflict between Tattooine's two hottest groups--the Max Rebo Band and The Modal Nodes. What starts as a friendly rivalry soon spills out into sabotage and murder, when Rebo's singer, the legendary Sy Snootles, runs off with Nodes's frontman Figrin D'an. It's an emotional rollercoaster set to a wild and funky space jazz soundtrack.
Porg Wars
Porgs are the ludicrously cute residents of Ahch-To, the island that Luke has exiled himself to at some point between Episodes VI and VII. They will make their debut in The Last Jedi in December, but they have already captured the heart of many a Star Wars fan. If the Ewoks merited two movies and a TV show, these furry sweethearts deserve more than just an animated short.
Malakili And Me
Forget the deaths of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Han Solo, is there any moment sadder than when Malakili the Rancor keeper sees his monstrous buddy slain by Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi? What the world needs is a heartwarming spin-off prequel, in which we see Malakili and the Rancor in happier times, feeding on Jabba's enemies without a care in the world.
Looking For Willrow
He's only onscreen for a few seconds, but Willrow Hood--aka the Ice Cream Maker Guy--has inspired fan devotion all around the world. In this spin-off, Willrow's theft of his neighbor's ice cream maker spirals out of control, and soon rival factions are engaged in an intergalactic manhunt for the enigmatic Mr Hood.
Darklighter/Wedge & Biggs: Back In Action
Luke Skywalker might be the most famous resident of Tatooine to join the Rebel Alliance, but he wasn't the first. Luke's pal Biggs Darklighter left that sandy rock to train as a pilot at the Imperial Academy, before skipping out to hook up with the rebels. The Biggs spin-off Darklighter tells the untold story of what led our mustachioed hero to change his allegiance, and how he went about making contact with the Alliance. In the buddy comedy sequel, Wedge & Biggs: Back In Action, Biggs hooks up with fellow hotshot pilot Wedge to whoop it up and kick some Imperial ass.
Party On Binks!
For better or worse, Jar-Jar Binks remains one of the most iconic characters in the entire Star Wars series. Poor Jar-Jar had his role in Episodes II and III somewhat curtailed, but surely the Gungan hero deserves another chance. In this spin-off, we see what a fun guy Jar-Jar was before he got embroiled with galactic intrigue: partying hard in Otoh Gunga, playing wacky pranks on Boss Nass, and generally having one wild and crazy time. Okay, we don't really want to see this one, either.
