You can now watch over-the-air television on your Xbox One in the United States and Canada thanks to the release of the Hauppauge Digital TV Tuner, Microsoft has announced.
The tuner, which Microsoft said is one of the most-requested live TV features on Xbox Feedback, costs $60, and allows you to access whatever broadcast networks are available in your area, subscription free, and without having to switch inputs between your games and TV. This is a cheaper version of the tuner members of the Xbox One preview program could start using last month.
"Xbox One owners can look forward to a variety of useful features, such as the ability to pause up to 30 minutes of live TV, watch TV on the right side of your screen while playing games with Snap, and navigate channels using Kinect voice controls," Microsoft said.
With the TV tuner, Xbox One now has pretty comprehensive access to all types of video content. The console already allows you to plug in your cable or satellite feed via HDMI, access live TV with apps like Sling TV and ESPN, and stream from HBO Go, Netflix, and others.
The thousands of H1Z1 players recently banned by developer Daybreak have been given a shot to redeem themselves. Daybreak president John Smedley outlined a plan on Twitter whereby any cheater who uploads a video of themselves making a public apology may have their account unbanned.
"Many of you are emailing me, apologizing and admitting it. Thank you. However, you're doing it wrong," Smedley explained. "If you want us to even consider your apology, a public YouTube apology is necessary."
Smedley clarified that H1Z1 cheaters should direct their apology videos to other players. "Please address your apology to fellow players, not us," he wrote. "Although you hurt our business, this is about them not us."
Smedley has re-tweeted a few videos so far. He notes in a follow-up Reddit post that Daybreak has so far unbanned three people out of 30,000. He also offered more insight into why Daybreak is taking this unique approach to cheating in H1Z1.
"I want to make sure it's clear there are consequences for cheating," he said. "If these videos go far and wide and it elevates the importance of getting rid of the cheaters in PC gaming, I feel it's an excellent trade."
"Here's why. These guys could easily go right back in, make a new steam account.. use an HWID hack and play anyways," he added. "Yes, that's the reality. It's ugly, but there it is. And it's true for every single PC game out there. Even the ones that say it isn't. So is this the right move? I don't know. But doing the same thing we have been doing is a tough fight and I'd like to at least try something different."
Video submissions end today, May 20, at 12 noon PDT / 3 PM EDT.
The US government on Wednesday declassified hundreds of documents found in Osama Bin Laden's Abbottabad compound following SEAL Team Six's 2011 raid. Among the documents are a few surprises, one of which is that someone in his compound possibly played Delta Force Xtreme 2 and read GameSpot.
No, really.
Under the section "Documents Probably Used by Other Compound Residents," there are two video game entries.
They are:
Delta Force Extreme 2 [sic] Videogame Guide
Game Spot [sic] Videogame Guide
There's no indication that Bin Laden or anyone in his compound studied the game--named after the famous Army special ops team--to learn its tactics.
And, again, these are documents believed to have been read by someone other than Bin Laden.
You can see all the documents recovered from Bin Laden's compound--which includes materials about suicide-prevention and even the Illuminati--at the US government's "Bin Laden's Bookshelf" page.
Microsoft says the bundle will be offered in "limited quantities" and only for a certain period of time. What's more, supply will not be replenished. "So once they're all gone, they all gone," Microsoft writes on the Xbox Wire.
One thing to note about this package is that the bundled copy of The Master Chief Collection comes by way of download code, not a physical disc.
The controller's light bar now changes color based on the equipped weapon's elemental effect, and you can now use the touch pad to navigate the map screen.
In addition, the patch contains various bugs fixes and performance improvements for both the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game. Gearbox also released a patch for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel that introduces similar improvements. You can find the complete patch notes here.
Want to be immortalized in Rock Band? Now's your chance. Developer Harmonix is shooting a live-action Rock Band 4 trailer this week, and they want you to be featured in it.
Harmonix has published a detailed blog post about how you can sign up. The video will be shot May 21-23 in Seattle, and you can apply by sending a photo of yourself to silk_spectre@mail.com. Be sure to include your full name and the dates you're available (it's OK if you can't commit to all three).
The shoot will involve mostly crowd scenes, but Harmonix notes that it "may need a few extras" for some additional segments. You must be 21 or older to take part, and you'll be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement before you can visit the set.
Those chosen for the Rock Band 4 video will be paid, though a fee was not mentioned. This is on top of "endless bragging rights," Harmonix points out.
That would put its launch at sometime in the fall at the earliest.
He revealed that release window on Twitter in an exchange with a fan who asked when the Windows 10 Xbox One beta would begin. Microsoft previously confirmed that Windows 10 functionality--like other new features--will come to Xbox One first through the Preview Program for the purposes of testing.
Features are typically tested for a month before launching publicly. The Xbox One's Preview Program is available by invitation only.
Microsoft announced back in January that Windows 10 would be integrated into Xbox One by way of a future update. Spencer assured fans at the time that when the Windows 10 Xbox One update arrives, it won't morph the games console into an enterprise-centric device.
How it will operate is unclear, and whether it will come with a dashboard rearrangement is not known.
"We won't see people using Excel on the Xbox, but Microsoft is making it easier to port experiences from PC over to Xbox where they make sense," Spencer said at the time.
Windows 10 on Xbox One will introduce a range of new features, including the ability to stream games to Windows 10 PCs. What's more, cross-platform play will be introduced, beginning with Lionhead's Fable Legends. This will allow Xbox One and PC users to play the RPG together.
Microsoft has major ambitions for Windows 10, recently projecting the new OS to reach one billion devices by 2018.
Sony has established a new UK studio to focus on development for its upcoming PlayStation 4 virtual reality headset Project Morpheus, the corporation has confirmed to GameSpot.
A number of job postings for what Sony is calling its North West Studio appeared on the Sony Computer Entertainment careers page on Tuesday. The corporation has since explained to GameSpot that the team will include staff from Motorstorm and Driveclub developer Evolution Studios, who will work on "high quality experiences" for the VR headset.
"We are dedicated to producing high quality experiences for Project Morpheus, and the creation of this studio allows us to build a small but highly experienced team who can utilise their skills to showcase this exciting new immersive technology," said a Sony spokesperson.
"We always look to relocate staff throughout the studios, and this is no exception. The new team will be made up of a combination of Evolution staff members and new talent, with a focus on hiring the most highly experienced team possible."
Evolution Studios was previously working on a prototype version of Driveclub for Project Morpheus, which would put players in cockpit view. According to Shuhei Yoshida, PlayStation's president of worldwide studios, the project was halted because it was "kind of difficult and sickening."
"We haven't talked about these games as yet. We are waiting for the right time. Starting probably at E3, we will start to show the actual games," he said.
Sony has confirmed its E3 press conference will take place at 6pm Pacific Time on Monday, June 15 (2am Tuesday, UK time). Check out the full E3 2015 press conference schedule for details on the timing of the other seven briefings.
Electronic Arts on Wednesday released a teaser image for this year's new Need for Speed game. The image, shared on Need for Speed's social channels, is captioned: "Are you ready for the next chapter?"
The image shows a green car with the word "Speedhunters" featured on the vehicle's wheel. Speedhunters is the name of EA's own car culture community. This suggests the group will have some role to play in the new Need for Speed game, but of course, this is not confirmed.
The car featured in the image here appears to be the same one from the first teaser image released on Monday. Many are speculating that the game could be a new installment in the Need for Speed Underground series.
Back in January, EA said the game was "already looking spectacular." The new Need for Speed is currently in development at Sweden-based studio Ghost Games.
2014 was the first year without a new, core Need for Speed title release in over a decade. In May 2014, EA confirmed that it would not launch new entry in the franchise until 2015 so that the project could have an "extended development window."
A gameplay trailer for the final downloadable content pack for horror game The Evil Within was unveiled today. The DLC is titled "The Executioner," and places players in the role of The Keeper, an enemy that appeared during the main campaign in The Evil Within.
The gameplay trailer features the first-person perspective that is adopted in the DLC and showcases some of the weapons and the gruesome damage they can inflict. The Executioner is set in the Manor House on the Victoriano Estate, where players will find themselves initially armed with The Keeper's "signature hammer" as they unearth the origin story of how he came to be.
The Executioner will be available from May 26 and can be purchased on its own for $4.99 or as part of The Evil Within's Season Pass for $19.99. The season pass includes the first two DLC packs, The Assignment and The Consequence. For more on The Evil Within, check out GameSpot's review.
Russian developers Gaijin Entertainment (War Thunder) and Targem Games (Planets Under Attack) on Wednesday announced a new post-apocalyptic vehicular combat PC MMO called Crossout.
The game, which is currently in pre-alpha, takes place in a world ravaged by an alien invasion, while human genetic testing has gone all wrong.
Car customization will be a major part of Crossout, as Gaijin claims no two cars will be the same. Players can build whatever they want--from zippy buggies to heavier off-road vehicles. Players can accumulate new parts and pieces, either through gameplay or by purchase (there are "thousands of possibilities," Gaijin says), and each affects the vehicle's overall performance.
Players will be able to tailor their car's shape, armor, weapons, support systems, and cosmetics in a virtual garage. The game also has an in-game auction system, though further details were not specified. Some of the weapons players can attach to their cars include chainsaws, power drills, machine guns, and rocket launchers. Anyone else feeling a Mad Max vibe?
Crossout will debut at E3 this summer, while a beta will also be held. To apply for a spot, you can sign up at the game's website. For a closer look at Crossout, check out some images in the gallery below.
Nintendo has appointed a new vice president of sales, and his name is Doug Bowser.
According to Nintendo, Bowser "brings decades of experience, not fire breath, to the role," which involves overseeing "a variety of sales-related functions, including in-store merchandising, retail strategy, and retail marketing."
Bowser will also play a key role in "driving national sales strategies to generate demand and achieve revenue objectives across all of Nintendo's product lines."
"Doug Bowser is an outstanding addition to our Nintendo team, as he brings a deep blend of both consumer package goods and video game sales experience," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive VP of sales and marketing.
"I know he will work tirelessly with our internal and external partners to ensure the broad Nintendo product lineup of hardware, software, and accessories are strongly represented throughout U.S. retail points of distribution."
Prior to joining Nintendo, Bowser worked at EA as VP of global business planning, and at Procter & Gamble before that.
Nintendo has also confirmed Bowser is not related to King Koopa.
PC gaming giant Valve has trademarked something called "Chaperone," and--whatever it is--it appears to be related to virtual reality. Valve applied for the trademark with the United States Patent & Trademark Office in March, but the application was only recently discovered by people on Reddit.
The trademark application specifically mentions virtual reality, including "Hardware and software, sensors, and beacons for the detection and measurement of physical objects and the representation of such objects in virtual reality environments."
It also covers "Electronic apparatus for the detection and measurement of physical objects and the representation of such objects in virtual reality environments."
Given the virtual reality association, "Chaperone" appears to be related to the ViveVR headset. Valve is working on this device with smartphone giant HTC. It's expected to launch later this year, though Valve has not announced a release date or price for the headset.
We've followed up with Valve, asking for more details on Chaperone.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a new trailer for Lego Dimensions starring beloved Back to the Future actor Christopher Lloyd, who reprises his role as Doc Brown.
The trailer, which is part live-action, shows Doctor Emmett Brown receiving a mysterious package containing Lego pieces. After some fiddling, he puts together a teleporter and is transported into a Lego world filled with recognisable heroes and villains.
And yes, he also throws out his catchphrase. Check it out below.
Lego Dimensions is a toys-to-life experience in the same vein as Disney Infinity, Activision's Skylanders, or Nintendo's Amiibo.
The game is to be developed by series stewards Traveller's Tales and will fuse together characters from franchises including DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, The Wizard of Oz, LEGO Ninjago, and more.
TT Games founder and creative director Jon Burton has said LEGO Dimensions will deliver "endless" creative play, as gamers will be able to mix different franchises together.
"When kids play with LEGO bricks, they build beyond the singular brands, intermixing all of their favourite characters and universes, and we have come up with a way for players to experience that in games," Burton said.
"Now for the first time in a video game, LEGO fans can play in the virtual world and in the real world--combining everything without restrictions. Imagine putting LEGO Gollum from The Lord of the Rings behind the wheel of the LEGO Delorean in New Ninjago City--the creative play is endless."
Just hours after the release of Destiny's House of Wolves expansion, a group of players have claimed victory over its toughest new challenge, the Prison of Elders co-op arena.
Prison of Elders is a Gears of War Horde-style mode where a trio of players work together to take down waves of increasingly difficult enemies.
The mode is so challenging that even Bungie's own developers could not complete it during a livestream event earlier this month, according to Forbes.
As Eurogamer reports, the leader of the successful run was Sunshadow. You might remember him as the player who beat Crota's End by himself, without ever firing a weapon. What's even more impressive about this playthrough is that it was completed on the toughest difficulty setting--level 35.
Check out a clip of the Prison of Elders run here. And be sure to watch the video below to see what Prison of Elders is all about.
House of Wolves is available now on all platforms. It's included with Destiny's $35 Expansion Pass (which also comes with December's The Dark Below), or you can buy it separately for $20.
The 2016 Warcraft movie might feature a reference to one of gaming's most iconic memes: Leeroy Jenkins.
Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta, who wrote a draft of the Warcraft movie, shared a snippet of his draft on Twitter. As you could have probably guessed, "Private Jenkins" is a little too eager to charge into battle.
Leeroy Jenkins was actually in my original draft of the Warcraft movie. And yes, he ran into battle too early. pic.twitter.com/G8bO4KmU6j
Eurogamer points out that the Warcraft movie script has gone through numerous drafts, so it's possible this sequence has been changed or possibly removed altogether.
The Leeroy Jenkins meme recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. The meme has been referenced on popular shows like Jeopardy and How I Met Your Mother, among others.
Project Cars developer Slightly Mad has spoken out to deny accusations that it intentionally sabotaged performance of the racing game's PC version for people using AMD cards. How did we get here? The author of a detailed and in-depth Reddit post summed up his point by claiming, "The entire Project Cars engine itself is built around a version of PhysX that simply does not work on AMD cards."
Not so, according to Slightly Mad.
In its own lengthy statement, Slightly Mad responded to the author's claims, which the developer labeled "erroneous."
Among other things, Slightly Mad stressed that it didn't favor Nvidia over AMD for Project Cars, noting that it has a "good working relationship" with both companies.
Slightly Mad's full statement can be found below, courtesy of PC Gamer.
"For the past few days, erroneous information posted on Reddit and other websites has spread misinformation with regards to Project Cars' performance on systems using AMD GPUs.
To correct the wrongful assumptions regarding Project Cars' performance on AMD GPUs, the Madness engine, and the degree of involvement from our third-party technical partners, Slightly Mad Studios feel compelled to point out the following facts:
Project Cars is not a GameWorks product. We have a good working relationship with Nvidia, as we do with AMD, but we have our own render technology which covers everything we need.
NVidia are not "sponsors" of the project. The company has not received, and would not expect, financial assistance from third-party hardware companies.
The Madness engine runs PhysX at only 50Hz and not at 600Hz as mentioned in several articles
The Madness engine uses PhysX for collision detection and dynamic objects, which is a small part of the overall physics systems
The Madness engine does not use PhysX for the SETA tyre model or for the chassis constraint solver (our two most expensive physics sub-systems)
The Madness engine does not use PhysX for the AI systems or for raycasting, we use a bespoke optimized solution for those
The physics systems run completely independently of the rendering and main game threads and utilizes 2 cores at 600Hz
The physics threading does not interact with the rendering, it is a push system sending updated positional information to the render bridge at 600Hz
Any performance difference with PhysX would not be reflected with differences in comparing rendering frame rates. There is no interaction between PhysX and the rendering
Overall, PhysX uses less than 10% of all physics thread CPU on PC. It is a very small part of the physics system so would not make a visual difference if run on the CPU or GPU
Direct involvement with both Nvidia and AMD has been fruitful in assisting with the game performance at various stages of development. Both AMD and nVidia have had access to working builds of the game throughout development, and they have both tested builds and reported their results and offered suggestions for performance improvements.
Testing of the game with different driver versions has produced a variety of performance results on both Nvidia and AMD hardware. This is entirely to be expected as driver changes cannot always be tested on every game and every card, and this is the reason why both companies produce game-specific driver profiles, to ensure that they can get the best out of the game.
Project Cars does not use Nvidia specific particle technology--the system we use is a modified version of the same technology we used on the Need for Speed: Shift and Shift Unleashed games, and was entirely developed in-house. The reason the performance drops when there are a lot of particles on screen is simply because processing a large number of particles is very expensive."
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, the wacky and weird team-based shooter from EA's PopCap team, has received a permanent price drop. The game is now available for just $20.
EA Access members on Xbox One can play Garden Warfare for even less, as it's one of the many titles included for free with the subscription program.
The announcement of the price drop comes not long after EA confirmed that a sequel to Garden Warfare, described as "bigger and bolder," will be revealed at E3 in June.
As for the original Garden Warfare, the third-person shooter was released in February 2014, receiving a generally positive reception from critics. GameSpot scored the game a 7/10, with critic Carolyn Petit writing: "It's that rare shooter whose world and characters might put a smile on your face, making it a refreshing entry in a genre that usually takes itself really seriously."
Unikrn, a site that allows users to bet on eSports matches, has launched in the UK, making it the territory's first dedicated betting site for competitive gaming.
The service is restricted to jurisdictions in which betting is permitted, which means that much of the United States is out of reach.
However, UK, Australia, and Asia-based eSports fans can now watch and wager on tournaments run by popular European Leagues including the ESL Gaming Network and the ESEA.
In addition to viewing and betting on eSports matches, Unikrn also provides "live discussions and competitive odds to gaming fans globally."
Previously, established UK betting services have allowed users to wager on eSports matches. William Hill takes bets on Counter-Strike and DotA 2, providing a selection of matches from a day-to-day basis for users to select from.
PaddyPower, meanwhile, seems to offer betting opportunities based on whether large events are occurring.
Unikrn was co-founded by Rahul Sood, who also serves as its CEO. Sood previously worked at Razer, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, and founded Voodoo PC.
Although a number of websites provide betting services for eSports--and can be accessed in the UK--unlike Unikrn, none have the backing of a large wagering business such as Tabcorp.
"eSports is one of the largest sports globally, attracting viewer numbers that are on par with traditional sports such as American football and basketball," said Sood in April, when announcing Unikrn's global partnership with Tabcorp.
"We couldn't have found a better partner than Tabcorp to drive innovation and bring wagering to the fast-growing eSports market. Tabcorp's track record as a global leader in responsible betting and its experience running an integrated wagering and media business provides Unikrn with the platform to build a secure, legal, and fun arena for adults to gather, game, and bet on eSports."
Speaking about the UK launch, Sood described the territory as "one of the most sophisticated sports betting markets in the world."
"There has been tremendous demand for safe wagering on eSports from consumers in that part of the world," he added.
The studio has been publishing a series of behind-the-scenes videos detailing the process of developing a triple A video game experience with an indie sized team and budget.
The latest entry documents the process of creating a playable slice of the game, which can be used to see if what the team is creating is working and provide the opportunity to iterate on design.
In the video, Ninja Theory also reveals it will be showing a more advanced gameplay demo of Hellblade on June 10.
"It's a brand-new IP. Senua is a new character," said Dominic Matthews, product development manager at the studio. "It's not tied to Heavenly Sword at all. I saw someone describe the name as someone just putting Heavenly Sword into Thesaurus.com and going, oh it's Hellblade."
"It's not something where we've gone, yeah, let's make people think it is this. We really like Heavenly Sword. We loved making that game. So it's actually more just we like making female protagonists that look in a certain style. And we like swords. And we like hell. It's more that."
The studio has said Hellblade will deliver "ninja-class melee gameplay, strong character stories, and a unique art vision"--it was easy to assume this was, at the very least, a spiritual successor to Heavenly Sword. But even that isn't the case.
Oculus VR will be revealing more about its Oculus Rift virtual reality headset during an upcoming special press event. The event will take place in San Francisco on June 11, as reported by IGN. An invitation to the event itself is accompanied with a picture captioned "Step into the Rift."
Earlier this month Oculus VR released a list of recommended PC specifications for running the Oculus Rift. A blog post from Oculus explained why the specs are so hefty, "The goal is for all Rift games and applications to deliver a great experience on this configuration... Ultimately, we believe this will be fundamental to VR's success, as developers can optimize and tune their game for a known specification, consistently achieving presence and simplifying development."
Oculus recently announced that it was putting development for the Mac and Linux operating systems on hold in order to focus on "delivering a high quality consumer-level VR experience at launch across hardware, software, and content on Windows."
Joining Rift next year will be Sony's PlayStation 4 headset, Project Morpheus. Meanwhile, the Vive headset, from Valve and HTC, is due to launch later this year. For a comparison of confirmed specifications for the three headsets, check out our round-up feature.
Dragon Age developer BioWare has spoken out to congratulate CD Projekt Red on the release of their long-in-development RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game officially launched today, May 19, after years of development and multiple delays. Check out the Twitter exchange below.
@dragonage Thanks guys. Looking forward to more adventures in Ferelden. :)
Sony is the latest video game company to join the effort to support Nepal in the wake of the recent earthquakes that devastated the country.
The company has introduced a new area on the PlayStation Store where you can easily donate money in increments of $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, or $100. Every cent of the money donated in this manner goes to charity--Sony says it will be directed to both the American Red Cross and Save the Children's efforts in Nepal.
By donating, you'll receive a theme "inspired by Nepal" for PS4 (above) or PS3 (below).
You can donate either through the PlayStation Store on consoles or right through your computer by going here (PS4 theme) or here (PS3).
Activision on Tuesday announced ten more tracks that will be featured in this year's Guitar Hero Live.
While previous announcements revealed pop and classic rock tunes, this latest batch of songs is focused on heavier offerings.
Music from metal veterans Mastodon, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, and Marilyn Manson are among the newly confirmed songs. Check out the ten new cuts below.
We've also added them to our Guitar Hero Live Spotify playlist, which includes previously announced tracks. The game now has 37 confirmed songs.
On the heels of an excellent flash sale over the weekend, Sony has launched another PlayStation Store promotion dubbed the Extended Play Sale that runs through May 25.
As the name might suggest, this new sale is centered around downloadable content, season passes, and, in some cases, combo packs of games with their DLC. The sale spans PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita, but it's the former two consoles that represent the bulk of the sale.
The Behemoth, developer of Xbox Live Arcade classics like Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers, has released more than 20 minutes of footage from its next title, currently known as Game 4.
If you want to avoid any spoilers, you should skip this footage. Thankfully, this comes from the first 20 minutes or so of the game, so it's not as spoiler-y as it could be. This is footage of the same demo seen at PAX East earlier this year, though certain elements have changed, and placeholder assets remain in place in some spots.
The video does a good job of both showing off the game's humor and the basics of its turn-based strategy gameplay. The Behemoth also goes into some detail on its blog about the changes it's made recently, like plumping up what were once "grossly dehydrated"-looking blueberries and improving the user interface.
Game 4 is in development for Xbox One and PC, but it does not yet have a release date. The Behemoth's most recent game was Xbox 360 and PC title BattleBlock Theater.
Watch as Kratos squares off against Hades in nearly ten minutes of new 1080p/60fps footage from the upcoming PlayStation 4 game, an updated version of the 2010 PlayStation 3 hack-and-slash title.
God of War III Remastered, announced back in March, debuts July 14 on PS4. Preorder the $40 game and you'll receive 90-day PlayStation Now rentals for God of War and God of War II, among other bonuses.
In addition to better visuals, God of War III Remastered comes with a photo mode where you can control the camera and add various effects. The game represents the first God of War title for PS4.
God of War III Remastered is not Sony Santa Monica's only current project. The developer is also working on an unannounced game, which is being led by God of War II director Cory Barlog.
Frank Gibeau, who most recently served as executive vice president of EA Mobile, has parted ways with Electronic Arts, the publisher revealed today.
An SEC filing reveals that Gibeau "has chosen to transition on from the company." His last day with the company was yesterday, May 18.
"I can confirm that Frank Gibeau has chosen to transition on from Electronic Arts," an EA spokesperson told GameSpot. "Throughout a more than 20-year career, Frank's made many significant contributions to the company, our people and our games. Most recently, he's worked to strengthen EA Mobile by building a great team. We thank Frank for his achievements at EA, and we wish him all the best in his next chapter."
Prior to heading up EA's mobile efforts, Gibeau was president of EA Labels. He also held a variety of other positions with the company since his hiring in 1991, including director of marketing and president of EA Games.
"It's been a really great ride, the best job ever, jam-packed with incredible life experiences and filled with many great friends," Gibeau said in a statement shared with GameSpot. "After an incredible 20-year career, I've accomplished all that I could have imagined and more. I'm very proud of all the great games that I had a chance to work on. I thank EA for the opportunity and wish them the very best. I am excited to explore my next challenge."
EA has not yet announced a replacement for Gibeau. The EA Mobile team will report to CEO Andrew Wilson in the interim as the company "work[s] through [its] long-term organizational plans."
As part of its most recent earnings report, mobile revenue was a bright spot, setting a company record with $524 million during the year ended March 31.
