See Halo 5's Newly Designed Covenant Vehicles

By Anonymous on Oct 04, 2015 11:04 pm

Ahead of its release later this month, 343 Industries has revealed new details about some of the Covenant vehicles players will find in Halo 5: Guardians. In its latest Canon Fodder blog post, 343 shared renders of the enemy ships and explained some of their new features and functionality.

There's a reason these trademark Halo vehicles, such as the Banshee and Wraith, look and perform differently than the last time we saw them.

343 explains: "During Halo 5: Guardians, the Sangheili are embroiled in a massive civil war that tears apart their homeworld of Sanghelios. In these tumultuous times both the Covenant and Swords of Sanghelios have reopened long-dormant manufacturing facilities and turned to allied colonies to provide much-needed vehicles and munitions."

The Banshee, for example, now has an energy shield, while the update Ghost will offer a "greater level of protection and higher performance." The Wraith, meanwhile, is smaller and more agile. To get a closer look at the updated vehicles, click through the images in the gallery above.

Further details about how the vehicles have changed are available on the Halo website.

Halo 5 launches on October 27 exclusively for Xbox One.

In other recent news about the game, the Seattle Sounders MLS team will wear Halo-branded jerseys in their matchup against LA Galaxy tonight. In addition, you can now listen to the game's title song, watch a new story trailer in which Master Chief is "dead." On top of that, Microsoft has confirmed that work has begun on Halo 6.

Xbox One Boss Explains Wait for Background Music Feature

By Anonymous on Oct 04, 2015 10:42 pm

Microsoft likes the idea of a background music feature for Xbox One, but right now, it's not at the top of the company's priority list. That's according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who talked a bit about it on Twitter.

Asked if Microsoft had any news to share regarding when the feature might come to Xbox One, Spencer said, "This one is just a prioritization thing with other work. We like the feature."

He added: "It's in the list of things we want to do, just behind other work we are doing right now."

This isn't the first time the subject of background music on Xbox One has come up. At the end of May 2015, Spencer said it won't be delivered until after Windows 10 integration comes to Xbox One. That's currently scheduled for "post-summer," meaning background music is coming this fall at the earliest.

Xbox One owners can currently use the Xbox Music app to listen to music while playing a game, but only with Snap. This takes up a portion of the screen, making it a less-than-ideal solution.

There is clearly demand for a better alternative. On the Xbox Feedback site, more than 20,000 people have voted for "Play Music From Apps Without Snap (Background Music)."

In other Microsoft music news, the company recently rebranded Xbox One music as Groove.

The next major Xbox One update, the New Xbox One Experience, launches in November. It totally revamps the interface and its biggest new feature is arguably backwards compatibility support for Xbox 360 titles.

League of Legends World Championship Brings in Nearly a Million Concurrent Viewers

By Anonymous on Oct 04, 2015 09:17 am

The League of Legends World Championships kicked off earlier this week in Paris, raking in nearly one million concurrent viewers on Twitch. And that doesn't account for viewers using other streaming platforms like YouTube, Douyu, and Longzhu, the latter of which has estimates of over 8 million concurrent viewers.

Bringing in the 16 strongest teams from China, Korea, North America, Europe, Brazil, Thailand, and Taiwan--fans have gathered to watch their favorite players duke it out on stage until one League of Legends team is left standing.

The tournament is a multi-city event, with the round robin stage taking place in Paris. Following that, the bracket stage will take place on October 15 in Wembley Arena in London, and will continue in the Brussels Expo in Brussels. The tournament grand final will conclude on October 31 in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin.
