Check Out New Resident Evil: The Final Chapter On-set Pictures

By Dan Auty on Oct 07, 2015 11:48 pm

The sixth part of the Resident Evil movie series is currently filming in South Africa, with Milla Jovovich and director Paul W.S. Anderson returning to the zombie action franchise one last time. Now a series of on-set pictures from Resident Evil: The Final Chapter have leaked online, showing the cast and crew at work. Check them out below, via Comicbook.com:

Last month, production on the film was delayed following a serious accident involving one of its stunt crew. Olivia Jackson struck a camera crane while performing a motorcycle stunt, a collision that put the experienced performer in hospital with multiple injuries.

The film sees the return of co-stars Shawn Roberts, Ali Larter, and Iain Glen, and is due for release in January 2017. The previous Resident Evil film, 2012's Retribution, grossed $240 million worldwide, and the series has to date made more than $915 million globally.

Meanwhile, Capcom recently revealed Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps as the latest part of the game series. It will be released sometime in 2016 onto the PlayStation 4 and PC, and is set after the events of the Resident Evil 6.

Here's When You Can Play Next Street Fighter 5 Beta

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 07, 2015 11:28 pm

The next Street Fighter V global beta is coming soon. Capcom announced today that the global test will run for a period of four days from October 22-25. The publisher said it plans to test "a lot of things" during the beta, the most important of which is cross-platform play between PlayStation 4 and PC. The game's first beta, which suffered from server problems so serious it had to be delayed, was held only on PS4.

In a blog post, Capcom stressed that this beta, like the last one, represents a work-in-progress version of Street Fighter V. As such, players may experience some problems. "It's these issues, however, that provide Capcom with valuable information to ensure that Street Fighter V is as optimized as possible upon final release, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time," it said.

This is the first Street Fighter V beta for PC; check out the game's minimum and recommended specs here.

The upcoming Street Fighter V beta starts first on PS4 on October 22, before coming to PC on October 24. "This is a first for us and we are very excited for players across both platforms to finally have a chance to battle one another," Capcom explained. "Make sure to bring your best strategies as the number of people that you can fight against will be that much larger this time around."

Below is a list of characters for the second Street Fighter V beta, which includes some that weren't even announced when the first beta was held. Note also that characters from the previous beta, Ryu, Chun-Li, Cammy, Birdie, Nash, and M. Bison, will not be available.

  • Ken
  • Necalli
  • Vega
  • R. Mika
  • Rashid (starting October 23)
  • Karin (starting October 24)

In addition, Capcom confirmed that the upcoming Street Fighter V beta will include ranked matchmaking, leaderboards that combine PS4 and PC players, and the ability to search for players and see their profiles. What's more, Capcom is adding new items to unlock with Fight Money currency. Everything you acquire in the beta, as well as your leaderboard status, however, will be wiped clean after the trial period ends.

The only way to get into the Street Fighter V beta is to preorder the game.

Street Fighter V does not currently have a confirmed release date, but Capcom has said that the game will be out during its current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2016.

Watch New Resident Evil Spinoff Shooter Gameplay, Live-Action Videos

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 07, 2015 11:00 pm

Capcom on Wednesday published a pair of videos for its upcoming Resident Evil third-person shooter Umbrella Corps, including a new gameplay trailer and a live-action video. Immediately below is the gameplay trailer, which shows off how matches unfold in the upcoming tactical shooter. The game type on display here is "One Life," which is exactly what it sounds like; you have one life and one life only.

Umbrella Corps was announced at the Tokyo Game Show last month. It is a competitive online shooter launching in 2016 for PS4 and PC. For lots more, check out GameSpot's in-depth interview with the game's developers, which, among other things, covers where the game fits into the Resident Evil timeline.

The other new Umbrella Corps video released today is a live-action trailer that was originally shown at Tokyo Game Show. Shot at Universal Studios Japan, the video aims to capture the spirit of the game.

Capcom has also confirmed that Umbrella Corps will be playable at the company's booth on the show floor at New York Comic-Con this weekend in New York City. Attendees can also play Street Fighter V, Resident Evil Zero HD, and the Mega Man Legacy Collection.

If you're not interested in Umbrella Corps, Capcom is also working on HD remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 2. In addition, Capcom just recently told fans to "stay tuned" for Resident Evil 7.

New Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem Trailers Are Dazzling and Baffling

By Tamoor Hussain on Oct 07, 2015 09:47 pm

Nintendo has released a pair of new videos for Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, the crossover role-playing game expected for release in Japan later this year. The videos provide an overview of the game's story, which is oriented around a character called Tsubasa and follows her quest to become an Idol. Although the video is very much Shin Megami Tensei flavoured, Fire Emblem's Chrom also makes an appearance.

Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem's Japanese release date has been confirmed as December 26. Release dates for western territories have not yet been specified.

Although the game was originally envisioned as a being closer in gameplay style to the Fire Emblem series, this concept was abandoned in favour of an RPG more like the SMT or the Persona games. In addition to Fire Emblem characters, the crossover will feature system elements such as the the weapon triangle to maintain its connection to Nintendo's strategy series.

GameSpot interviewed Fire Emblem producer and Nintendo group manager Hitoshi Yamagami, as well as Atlus producer Shinjiro Takada, at E3 2015 and discussed how this crossover came to be and it's deep connection to Japanese culture.

"In Japan, similar to Greek mythology, there's the idea of the gods being connected to the arts. It's a shamanistic element that's been interpreted by Atlus. The idea is, Japanese priestesses would dance and the dancing would bring them closer to the gods," Takada said.

"We wanted to spin this in an Atlus way, so all the characters in the game have some connection to the arts, and that connection and their ability to express themselves attracts the Mirages to them. People who are good at singing or dancing or acting have really strong bonds with Mirages."

PS4's Horizon: Zero Dawn Is a "Hot Property" for Licensing, Sony Says

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 07, 2015 09:34 pm

Horizon: Zero Dawn, the upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive from Killzone developer Guerrilla Games, doesn't launch until 2016, but Sony now says it believes it represents an "incredible licensing opportunity." In a new interview, SCEE licensing manager David Evans talked about extending the game to new product categories outside of gaming, including toys, apparel, collectibles, stationary, and more.

"The epic feel of the game, its breathtaking visuals, strong character development, imaginative combat sequences, and the marketing weight of the PS4 release all combine to make this a hot property for 2016," Evans told Licensing.biz.

He added: "Guerrilla Games have created a lush post-apocalyptic world that players simply won't want to leave and licensed merchandise offers consumers a way to extend that extraordinary experience into their everyday lives."

Announced at E3 2015, the ambitious-sounding Horizon has a full day/night cycle and players will get to explore forests, mountains, and "atmospheric ruins of a bygone civilization." There are also robot dinosaurs. The game's female hero, Aloy, was inspired by female leads in franchises such as Terminator and Game of Thrones.

Horizon launches in 2016 exclusively for PS4. It will not have a multiplayer mode, though the game will have "certain social features in there" that will be announced later.

Marvel Cut Loki's Scene From Avengers: Age of Ultron, Here's Why

By Dan Auty on Oct 07, 2015 09:27 pm

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with amazing superheroes, but when it comes to villains, Thor's brother and nemesis Loki remains the most fascinating. He was notably absence from this year's Avengers: Age of Ultron, and now star Tom Hiddleston has revealed that he was originally intended to appear in the film.

"I was part of the dream sequence for the character of Thor," he told Digital Spy. "I shot for a day and enjoyed it very much, and then I received a phone call from [producer] Kevin Feige who said that in test screenings, audiences had overemphasized Loki's role.

"They thought that because I was in it, I was controlling Ultron, and it was actually imbalancing people's expectations, So Joss [Whedon, the film's director] and Kevin were like, 'Let's cut it because it's confusing people.' It made sense to me when I saw that film."

It's no secret that Avengers: Age of Ultron arrived in cinemas after some disagreement between Whedon and the movie's producers. The director has spoken about the fights he had with Marvel executives over certain parts of the film, describing the process to the Empire Film Podcast as "really unpleasant."

Last month, one of the deleted scenes from the film was released, showing a key sequence as it was originally intended.

Avengers: Age of Ultron has made $1.4 billion at the box office since its release in May, and now stands as the sixth most successful film of all time. The next Avengers film, Avengers: Infinity War Part I, is scheduled for release on May 4, 2018.

80% of PS4 Owners Never Played Uncharted, Naughty Dog Says

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 07, 2015 08:59 pm

According to Naughty Dog's own research, around 80 percent of PlayStation 4 owners have never played an Uncharted game. That's part of the reason why the developer says in a new interview that it believes the upcoming PS4 compilation pack Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection can be successful.

"It's pretty massive," Naughty Dog's Eric Monacelli said in an interview with MCV about the pool of PS4 owners who have never played any game in the action-adventure series. "We did a lot of research and discovered that about 80 percent of the people that own a PS4 have never played Uncharted, period. That was one of the reasons why we thought remastering it would be a good idea."

Sony said previously that almost 50 percent of PS4 owners never purchased a PS3. To accommodate those owners who are new to the PlayStation ecosystem, executive Andrew House previously said that Sony was looking to remaster back-catalog games for the PS4. Sony has already released remastered versions of PS3 games God of War 3 and The Last of Us. Looking ahead, the company recently said it would consider a Killzone HD compilation, while other franchises are also being considered.

Overall, Monacelli said Naughty Dog's expectations for The Nathan Drake Collection "are high." Sony is putting some heavy marketing weight behind it, too, as the company has created a TV ad for the game using Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion." The ad plays regularly during primetime programming in the US.

The Nathan Drake Collection, which includes 1080p/60fps versions of the PS3 games Drake's Fortune, Among Thieves, and Drake's Deception (but not PS Vita title Golden Abyss), was developed by Bluepoint Games, not Naughty Dog. It launches on October 9 and also comes with access to the Uncharted 4: A Thief's End multiplayer beta, which begins in December.

Rock Band 4 Dev Talks Competition With Guitar Hero Live

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 07, 2015 08:33 pm

The Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises go head-to-head once more this month with Rock Band 4 and Guitar Hero Live. Now, Harmonix creative director and co-founder Alex Rigopulos has spoken out to talk about the competition between the rival games. In a new interview, Rigopulos says he doesn't expect Rock Band 4 will outsell Guitar Hero Live and explained why that's OK.

"There's not ambition or expectation that we will outsell Guitar Hero, that we're going up against Activision," he told GamesIndustry International. "But we don't need to. We can actually have a very healthy business serving a much more modest core, a small fraction of the people who played the game previously, and I think we're perfectly content to do that."

Part of the appeal of Rock Band 4, released October 6, is that works with many of the existing plastic guitars you may already have in your closet or under your bed. This is particularly advantageous for Harmonix, Rigopulos said, in part because it "frees us from the need to manufacture seven million units of peripherals."

This is a marked change from the last time Rock Band was popular. During the heyday of Rock Band and Guitar Hero, publishers MTV and Activision were engaged in a "slug-fest" to dominate the market, which included "trying to build as much inventory as possible to command the channel."

Rigopulos added: "That led to an oversupply situation that was kind of a financial nightmare at the end of the day for both parties. Thinking about that, I still have PTSD from that."

For Rock Band 4, Harmonix is working with peripheral company Mad Catz to make new plastic instruments.

Competitor Guitar Hero Live launches on October 20. Unlike Rock Band 4, Activision's game, developed by FreeStyle Games, does not support existing plastic guitars.

GameSpot's Rock Band 4 review scored the game a 7/10.

"Rock Band 4 recaptures the unadulterated gratification that made the series such a hit half a decade ago, but mainly because it's a relatively unchanged, repackaged Rock Band 2," editor Scott Butterworth said. "A lack of content and general stagnation hold this particular iteration of Rock Band back, but new ideas like Freestyle Solos genuinely enhance the core experience, which remains a sincere and joyful celebration of music."

WWE Superstar Dean Ambrose Hates The Word "Selfie"

By Randolph Ramsay on Oct 07, 2015 08:30 pm

I recently met WWE superstar Dean Ambrose at a WWE 2K16 event, and the first thing I noticed was just how alike he was in demeanor to his larger than life, on-screen persona. It's much more muted, of course--there's little outward sign of the 'Lunatic Fringe' here--but I was struck with how easily I could correlate the real person in front of me to the WWE performer and athlete. They say wrestlers are best when they play themselves, only with the volume turned way up, and Ambrose certainly fits that bill.

In our brief conversation we chatted about being a gamer, and what his thoughts were about being under constant scrutiny in the 'Reality Era' of wrestling. His responses were, to put it simply, perfect Ambrose.

You're wrestling in an era where secrets are much harder to keep thanks to the internet. There's a lot of constant scrutiny on you guys. How do you cope with all that attention all the time?

Dean Ambrose: It's the way of the world today. A lot of people bring it on themselves--I'm not a social media guy, I don't go on social media at all. If you don't know me personally then you don't get to talk to me ever. As far as I'm concerned what you see on the screen, on Monday night RAW, is the only access you get to me. So I live a pretty stress free scenario as far as that's concerned. The internet, it is what it is. As far as letting secrets go, I find it very easy keeping secrets. I just don't tell anyone if I don't trust them. And the circle of people I trust is very, very small. I just keep it real like that and it makes it easier for me.

It's a wider issue that affects the WWE in general, though. For example, someone sees Undertaker at the airport, takes a picture, and then suddenly the finish for a match that night is ruined. Do you think think this overall scrutiny makes it harder for you to present a product?

Yeah, a lot of fans kinda take the magic away. But it's been like this for years now, where they dig and search for every little bit of info and spend so much time deciphering everything and overthinking things. That's just an outlet for their passion for wrestling, but it does take away the magic sometimes, so I almost wish people would stop doing that. But if you take a picture of somebody and post it online, you're an asshole.

I hate having my picture taken in general. And if I'm not allowing it… and it's just gotten worse over time. I don't understand pictures at airports. And I hate the word selfie. Any man that uses it needs to reevaluate a lot of their life.

I can't imagine, I can't get in the mind of a wrestling fan who wants to break news that spoils a surprise for somebody. Would you want a surprise spoiled? Say you saw Sting at the airport and tipped everybody off that Sting was going to make an appearance that night, and then you ruin the surprise for people who went out of the way not to get the surprise ruined. Would you want your surprised ruined? I'd be, "Don't tell me, don't tell me who you saw at the airport." I like to live a spoiler-free life.

If you take a picture of somebody and post it online, you're an asshole.

Does it ever make you wish you wrestled in a different era?

Oh yeah. Professional wrestling as I imagined it when I set out to be a pro wrestler is not the same thing as sports entertainment today. There are times I wished I was in 1983 in the Crockett territory. But the WWE today is also something that's never been done before. Everything from the WWE network to video games, to be part of something like that and all the craziness that is the WWE today, is also cool to be a part of.

It's not just a wrestling business now. WWE is an institution in entertainment. It truly is now like the NFL, the brand is there with them. It's on a level it's never been before.

So are you a gamer yourself?

I'm not a gamer in the traditional sense, but I've played almost every wrestling game there was. To be a part of this one--I mean, the fans are going to love it. It's very cool to be a part of that--you can play this game at such a realistic level, and it's such an encompassing WWE experience for a fan, that you can play this for hours and hours and never get sick of it.

Suicide Squad Actor Will Smith Has Never Spoken to Jared Leto, Only The Joker

By Dan Auty on Oct 07, 2015 08:08 pm

Ever since it was announced that Jared Leto would be playing The Joker in DC's forthcoming supervillain team-up Suicide Squad, there has been much speculation about what the actor would bring to this iconic role. Now co-star Will Smith has spoken about the unusual experience of working with him.

In an interview with the Beats One radio show (via Complex), Smith reveals that Leto remained entirely in character throughout the film's production, refusing to speak to his fellow cast members except as the Joker.

"I've never actually met Jared Leto," said Smith. "We worked together for six months and we've never exchanged a word outside of 'Action!' and 'Cut!' I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be 'Hey, Jared. What's up?' He was all in on the Joker."

Smith plays Deadshot in the movie, which is directed by Fury's David Ayer. It tells the story of a group of death row supervillains, who are employed covertly by the US government to perform dangerous missions, in return for reduced prison sentences. Margot Robbie also features as Harley Quinn, with Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, and Jai Courtney playing Boomerang.

Also this week, comic book writer Grant Morrison revealed to Gamesradar that Leto had approached him for advice on playing the Joker. "He called me to talk about his approach to the character and I steered him in a few directions," said Morrisson. "I'm keen to see if anything other than slicked back hair and the Marilyn Manson vibe made it into his performance."

Suicide Squad is due for release on August 5, 2016.

Following the announcement of a Sonic: Lost World port for PC, Sega has said it intends to release more older titles for the platform in the "coming months and years."

"We're delighted to be able to bring Sonic Lost World to PC," said Sega Europe exec John Clark. "This is the latest in a string of high quality PC ports of past Sega titles that we will be building on in the coming months and years."

Sonic: Lost World was released in 2013 exclusively for Wii U and 3DS. The PC port will be available through Steam from November 2, priced at $30. All preorders of the game will include a free copy of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

In July 2015, Haruki Satomi, chief executive of Sega Games, said the company is now aiming to improve the quality of its games in hopes to make itself a valuable brand to video game audiences again.

"I've been talking to employees about how [Sega] should start putting serious consideration into quality from this point on," he said. "Particularly in North America and Europe, where it's always been more of a focus on schedules ... I believe that if we can't maintain quality, it would be better to not release anything at all."

He continued: "Sega in the '90s was known for its brand, but after that, we've lost trust, and we're left with nothing but reputation ... We'd like to win back the trust and become a brand once again."

In September 2013, Sega acquired bankrupted publisher Index Corporation, parent company of Atlus, developer of the Persona series. Atlus is continuing it game projects, one of which is Persona 5, with a team of 121 employees.

Although it was expected in 2015, Persona 5 has been delayed. The game will now debut on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in summer 2016.

Halo 5 Goes Gold, Campaign Is 8-12 Hours

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 07, 2015 07:12 pm

Microsoft's Halo 5: Guardians has "gone gold," meaning development on the sci-fi shooter is "finished." Discs are now heading to factories for mass production ahead of the Xbox One game's October 27 release date. Work began on the game more than three years ago, producer Josh Holmes said in a blog post.

Going gold is an important milestone for Halo 5, but it doesn't mean developer 343 Industries is packing up and moving entirely on to Halo 6 (even though that game is already in production). In fact, Holmes said 343 is currently working on a multiplayer content update that will launch with Halo 5 later this month.

"Of course launch is just the beginning," Holmes explained. "Our dedicated live team will be focused on supporting the game with monthly releases of new content and experiences."

This content includes more than a dozen free multiplayer maps and additional REQ content for Halo 5's multiplayer modes. 343 also confirmed that Halo 5 will be available to pre-load starting next week.

What's more, Microsoft has published a new infographic that includes some key statistics for Halo 5. Among other things, it reveals that Halo 5's 15-mission campaign should take you about 8-12 hours to complete. This figure is based on user research testing. Your play time could be longer or shorter, depending on if you like to zip through or take your time to find all the skulls. It's also worth noting that Halo 5 has a total of eight playable characters for its co-op campaign, meaning you may want play it again and again to see everything it has to offer.

In other Halo 5 news, Microsoft has confirmed that the game's Forge mode won't ship until December.

Rise of The Tomb Raider Season Pass Includes Endurance Mode, Two Extra Tombs to Explore

By Tamoor Hussain on Oct 07, 2015 06:53 pm

The Rise of the Tomb Raider season pass includes "a range of content that will extend your single-player campaign, and also allow you to compete with friends," according to a listing on the game's Xbox.com product page.

The season pass description states it will grant players access to "three major releases" that "challenge you to survive the extreme conditions of Endurance Mode, explore a new tomb that houses an ancient terror in Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, and combat waves of infected predators in Cold Darkness Awakened."

It will also deliver "a steady stream of outfits, weapons, and Expedition Cards beginning on Day One and continuing over four months." This will keep players "customising, expanding, and challenging friends to new adventures."

Expedition Cards are sold in packs of five and bestow a "distinct advantage" on Lara. These can be used in all extra gameplay modes. Currently, Xbox.com lists Gold, Silver, Challenge, Advantage, and Wild Packs, with each one "guaranteed to contain at least one rare card."

Neither Square Enix nor Microsoft have officially announced or detailed the season pass. Its existence was leaked by Amazon, which listed the pass for $30.

Although details on Rise of the Tomb Raider's multiplayer mode have not yet been divulged, a recent report revealed will not have a traditional multiplayer mode like its predecessor did.

The Rise of the Tomb Raider release date has been confirmed as November 10 for Xbox One and Xbox 360, with PC and PlayStation 4 versions landing in 2016. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's recent preview,"Like Father, Like Daughter."

Valve Hires Psychonauts, Brutal Legend Developer

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 07, 2015 06:33 pm

Veteran Double Fine developer Brad Muir is joining Valve. Muir left Double Fine last week after 12 years with the company, and just recently announced that he will start at Valve beginning in December.

Muir did not say what his role will be at Valve or what projects he might work on. Most recently, he served as project lead for Kickstarter project Massive Chalice (2015) and Iron Brigade (2011). Before that, he worked as a designer on Brutal Legend (2009) and was part of the programming team for Psychonauts (2005).

Prior to joining Double Fine in 2003, Muir worked as a gameplay programmer at Raven Software on 2004's X-Men Legends.

Writing on Twitter, Double Fine boss Tim Schafer said Muir's departure was an "end of an era" for the studio.

Double Fine's latest game is called Headlander, which it's working on with Adult Swim Games. In this game, you fly around as a disembodied head and take over enemies' bodies.

League of Legends Team-8 Acquired and Rebranded "Immortals," Expansion into Dota 2, Counter-Strike Planned

By Tamoor Hussain on Oct 07, 2015 06:30 pm

Multiple technology, gaming, and media investors have banded together to acquire Team-8, a well-known competitive League of Legends team, as part of a venture to launch a new esports franchise.

Team-8, which is considered one of the strongest League of Legend teams in North America, will be rebranded "Immortals" and, according to chief executive Noah Whinston, is the first of multiple professional gaming outfits that will bear the name.

"Immortals is starting with a League of Legends team, but expect to see us expanding rapidly into other top esports like Counter-Strike and Dota 2," he said.

"We recognise that the best way to grow the Immortals franchise is to work in conjunction with other team owners across every title to help the entire esports ecosystem expand in a healthy way."

The consortium of investors includes Peter Levin, president of Lionsgate Interactive Ventures; Steve Kaplan, co-owner of the Memphis Grizzlies basketball team; Allen Debevoise, chairman of Machinima; and Machine Shop Ventures, an arm of nu-metal band Linkin Park, among others.

Immortals launches with hardware giant AMD as a marketing and technology partner.

"Esports and its legions of fans are a key audience for AMD, which makes our partnership with Immortals both important and exciting," said Roy Taylor, corporate vice president for AMD.

"As a leading designer of graphics processing units and essential technologies for esports gamers of all levels, we are looking forward to future endeavours with the Immortals franchise."

On October 1, the League of Legends World Championship attracted close to one million concurrent viewers on Twitch. While other streaming platforms including YouTube, Douyu, and Longzhu are believed to have reached eight million viewers.

The increasing interest in watching competitive esports such as League of Legends as a form of entertainment has resulted in significant investments in teams, tournament prize pots, and network coverage.

ESPN has been pushing into the world of esports, sending reporters to the League of Legends North American Finals in August 2016 and airing a breakdown on its SportsCenter broadcast. It has also previously broadcast matches from Dota 2 tournament, The International and aired two hours of Heroes of the Storm on ESPN 2.

In September, 2015, ESPN posted job ads for a gaming editor, esports editor, and an engineer to work in the field of virtual/augmented reality, indicating an intent to pursue this area further.

Former ESPN host Colin Cowherd has been very vocal in his opposition of esports broadasting. In October, 2015, he debated watching eSports with Utah Jazz forward Gordon Hayward, who defended competitive gaming.

Xbox One Controller Gets Unofficial Star Wars Makeover

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 07, 2015 06:06 pm

UK-based company Extreme Consoles has revealed its latest creation: a Star Wars-themed Xbox One controller. The controller is based on the look of a Stormtrooper, which it captures quite well.

This custom controller has even caught the eye of Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who re-tweeted it, though that doesn't necessarily mean much. One thing that's particularly interesting is the left thumbstick is placed where the Stormtrooper's eye would be; moving the stick around could probably get a little weird.

Extreme Consoles sells its custom wares on eBay and Etsy or by direct order. You can read more about the company and see all of its custom creations through its website.

In other Star Wars gaming news, the multiplayer beta for DICE's Star Wars Battlefront begins October 8 and runs through October 12. The game launches in November and will be accompanied by a $450 limited edition PlayStation 4 console (and matching controller) modeled after ultimate bad guy Darth Vader.

What do you think of the Stormtrooper Xbox One controller? Let us know in the comments below.

Terminator Franchise is Still Alive, Producer Confirms

By Dan Auty on Oct 07, 2015 06:02 pm

The health of the Terminator franchise has been in question over the past couple of weeks, but it now seems as if there may yet be life in the action sci-fi series.

This summer's Terminator: Genisys was not the smash hit that Paramount had hoped for, taking an underwhelming $89 million domestically. Despite some success overseas--the global gross stands at $440 million--it was reported that the studio had now put the series "on hold indefinitely."

However, one of the film's producers has weighed in on the subject at The Wrap's Annual Media Leadership Conference in Los Angeles, and confirmed that there were still plans for future Terminator projects.

"We're ultimately happy with overall worldwide numbers [for Genisys]. Do I wish we would have done better domestically? Absolutely," admits Dana Goldberg, Chief Creative Officer at Skydance Media. "Happily, we live in the world where the domestic number had a level of importance 10 or 15 years ago. I'm not saying it's not important, it is--but we have to play to a worldwide market. The worldwide market paid attention, but we're not taking the domestic number lightly."

Goldberg explains that the next step for the company would be to explore what Terminator fans liked in the latest film, and what didn't work for them. "[We will use] data and research to do a worldwide study and really talk to audiences about what they loved, and what maybe didn't work for them, so that the next step we take with the franchise is the right one."

Nevertheless, Goldberg made it clear that the Terminator was very much an active property. "I wouldn't say on hold, so much as re-adjusting, " she said. "[But] we are not going to begin production at the beginning of next year, because again, it would be silly to not have to worry about what audiences have to say."

Destiny May Be on Your PS4, Even if You Didn't Buy It

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 07, 2015 05:04 pm

Numerous PlayStation 4 users reported this week that Bungie's Destiny appeared in their game library, even though they didn't put it there. Some worried that their account may have been compromised. But as it turns out, this is not a bug or anything nefarious, but rather a promotional effort from Sony.

A Destiny: The Taken King icon has appeared in many users' in-game libraries (see below). Clicking on it brings you to the store and prompts you to either download the game or its demo. NeoGAF members also point out that the store page Sony directs you to is for the most expensive version of the game.

According to Polygon, this is happening as a result of the PS4's ability to deliver "personalized, curated content" through automatic downloads.

"The PS4 system has the ability to learn about your preferences," reads a line on the PS4 website. "It will learn your likes and dislikes, allowing you to discover content pre-loaded and ready to go on your console in your favorite game genres or by your favorite creators."

You can opt out of the automatic download campaign by unchecking "Featured Content" from the Automatic Downloads menu of the PS4 System Settings.

It's not too surprising that Sony would promote Destiny in this fashion. After all, Sony has said it is treating Destiny like a first-party game, supporting it with console bundles, exclusive DLC, and more.

Did this happen to you? Want to make a U2 joke? Go right ahead in the comments below.

Minecraft Adding "Dramatic" New Feature

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 07, 2015 04:40 pm

Sandbox superhit Minecraft will add a new mode of traversal soon--flying. Soaring above in-game worlds will be made possible through a magic cape, developer Jens Bergensten announced on Twitter. He called the cape a "new dramatic feature" that will change the way you play Minecraft.

The cape will come to Minecraft's PC version through its next snapshot update, presumably landing for the console versions sometime later, though this was not confirmed.

Bergensten also confirmed that the Minecraft capes are not craftable; they can only be found in the game world. In addition, they fold when you land. As you can see in these animated GIFs, when wearing the cape, you can fly like an eagle, dipping and diving at will.

In other Minecraft news, Microsoft--which now owns the franchise--recently confirmed that it will introduce Oculus Rift support for the sandbox game starting in 2016.

New Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon Wii U Bundle Is UK's Cheapest Yet

By Tamoor Hussain on Oct 07, 2015 04:14 pm

Nintendo has announced a new Wii U bundle that packages the 32 GB version of the console with two acclaimed exclusive games, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon. It will be available across Europe from October 30.

Mario Kart 8 is pre-installed on the console, while Splatoon will be included in the form of a download code, redeemable on the Nintendo eShop. Disc-based versions of the games are not included.

Although Nintendo has not offered a price for the package, UK trade website MCV reports it will be available for £240. With the regular prices of the software factored in, this would make the bundle the cheapest ever released by Nintendo.

This deal comes as Nintendo begins its transition to its next generation console, codenamed the NX, which is expected to be revealed for the first time in 2016. In September, company named Tatsumi Kimishima as its new president, and successor to Satoru Iwata.

Nintendo said it would not discuss the NX until 2016, despite announcing it was in development in mid-2015. At the time, president Satoru Iwata said the NX represented a "new concept." He added the company was not thinking of it as a "simple replacement for" the 3DS or the Wii U.

The decision to announce the project so early was, according to Iwata, affirmation of Nintendo's "strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business."

In March 2015, Nintendo announced it had signed a deal with the global mobile games publisher DeNA, which includes the creation of "new gaming applications featuring Nintendo IP, which [both companies] will develop specifically for smart devices."

Marvel's Jessica Jones Goes for Nighttime Walk in Latest Teaser

By Dan Auty on Oct 07, 2015 03:41 pm

The build up to the November premiere of Jessica Jones, latest Marvel TV show produced in collaboration with Netflix, has been maintained by a series of teaser clips. Following previous videos entitled 'Good Morning' and 'Nightcap', the latest has been released. It's called 'Evening Stroll' and can be watched here:

The first season of Jessica Jones will feature 13 episodes, and will be released in its entirety on Netflix on November 20, 2015. It stars Krysten Ritter as a failed superhero who has abandoned the crimefighting life to become a private detective in New York. Former Doctor Who actor David Tennant and The Matrix's Carrie-Anne Moss co-star, alongside Mike Colter, playing fellow hero Luke Cage, who will also be getting a Netflix show in 2016.

Elsewhere, the second season of Daredevil, Netflix's other Marvel show, is currently in production. Anticipation is high for the introduction of fan-favourite The Punisher to the series, portrayed by former Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal. Bernthal spoke to CBR recently, and explained how tightly controlled information about the show was.

"They're so strict about this stuff, like what you can talk about and what you can't," he said. "I know that sucks. But it's just the way it is. That's all I can really say about it."

Nevertheless, Bernthal has been tweeting intriguing pictures while filming. When asked about these, he teased: "Whether you think that has anything to do with the show or not, that's up to you."

  • Slight adjustments have been made to flier separation when moving in groups so that flier units do not rapidly lose their velocity when attacking while moving.
  • If you issue a new attack command when Carrier Interceptors are already deployed, they will now engage the new target instead of returning back to the Carrier first.
  • Possible enemy locations will now pulse on the minimap for 10 seconds at the beginning of every game.
  • Pressing Alt + <number> creates a new control group and removes units from other control groups. This works in all team games, including Archon games.

Super Meat Boy Teased For Wii U Release

By Tamoor Hussain on Oct 07, 2015 02:37 pm

Rock-hard indie platformer Super Meat Boy may be released on Nintendo's Wii U in the future, according to a message from Team Meat co-founder Tommy Refenes.

In a post on the game's official website, Refenes thanked those involved with the recent release of Super Meat Boy on Playstation 4 and PlayStation Vita, before addressing the Wii U audience.

"To the fan's we're still excluding I'll leave you with this: Wii haven't forgotten about U."

Super Meat Boy was first released for Xbox 360 in 2010. Since then it has been made available on most platforms, with the exception of Nintendo's. A Wii U release would mark the first appearance of Meat Boy on a Nintendo system.

Five years since its initial release, Super Meat Boy launched for PS4 and Vita on Tuesday. As a Cross-Buy title, a single purchase on either of these platforms unlocks it for the other at no additional cost.

PlayStation Plus members, meanwhile, get download the game for free, along with these rest of the PS Plus October lineup.

Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us Pulled From iOS App Store

By Tamoor Hussain on Oct 07, 2015 02:13 pm

Multiple titles developed by Telltale Games have been removed from Apple's app store, in the wake of numerous compatibility issues with the iOS 9 operating system.

Among these games are recent releases such as the The Walking Dead, Back to the Future, The Wolf Among Us, and Tales of Monkey Island series, as well as older games including Poker Night 2, Sam and Max, and Jurassic Park.

A message on the Telltale Games support page confirms the studio is working on resolving the issues and the affected games will be available again in the future.

"If you are running iOS 9 on your iPhone or iPad, we are aware of an issue that causes missing sound or causes the game to freeze during connection, or crash. Our team is currently investigating this issue, and we hope to have more information in the near future," the post reads.

Telltale explains that the investigation process requires the games to be pulled from the store, but those that have already purchased them will have access to them again.

"During the investigation, we will be temporarily removing the affected apps from the App Store while we work to resolve these issues ... As long as you have the game downloaded and installed on your mobile device, you will be able to continue playing normally. If you have previously purchased the game application but have deleted it, you can still re-download it from the App Store either on your device, or from a PC/Mac with iTunes installed."

Telltale Games has announced a partnership with Marvel for a new game due out in 2017. Details on what the project is, however, have not yet been released.

The studio previously said it was aiming to move beyond games with its new game/TV show hybrid project called "Super Show," though it's unclear if the new Marvel game will operate under this model.

This Super Show is being worked on in collaboration with The Hunger Games and Orange is the New Black production company Lionsgate, which has a "significant investment" in the developer.
