Saints Row's Beloved Character Johnny Gat Is Coming To Agents Of Mayhem

By Alex Newhouse on Jun 10, 2017 12:21 am

The over-the-top, gunslinging, action-hero parody Johnny Gat is one of the more recognizable characters in the Saints Row series. Recently developer Volition announced that it's bringing him back to its new game, Agents of Mayhem. The catch: he's an exclusive GameStop pre-order bonus.

In a press release, Volition announced that Johnny Gat is a playable character in its upcoming game. Volition explained that his inclusion is actually somewhat coherent with the narratives of both Saints Row and Agents of Mayhem, and the studio justified it with a pretty convoluted and appropriately absurd explanation.

"The 'Have God re-create the Earth and retcon the entire world of Saints Row' ending of Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell means that the dead don't stay dead," the press release states. "Johnny is back where he was born--Seoul. Gat's been hard on the beat in this universe as a Lieutenant in Seoul's police department, but the tragic events of Devil's Night left Johnny in a coma. After awakening almost a year later, Johnny discovers that all of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency have been wiped out and replaced with COP (Civilian Overwatch Patrol) robot units."

The Gat DLC includes the character, as well as unique skins, an unlock mission, and a personal mission. He's voiced by Daniel Dae Kim, who played Johnny Gat in the Saints Row games.

Agents of Mayhem shares many gameplay similarities with Saints Row: it's an open-world, third-person action game with a comedic, over-the-top story. Unlike Saints Row, however, you'll be able to explore the world with a team of three agents. You can read our most recent preview of the game here.

It launches on August 15 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Keep an eye on GameSpot for more about Agents of Mayhem coming out of E3 2017 next week.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Mutiplayer Beta Coming This Fall, Yoda Pre-Order Bonus Revealed

By Eddie Makuch on Jun 10, 2017 12:17 am

As there was for 2015's Star Wars: Battlefront, this year's sequel will have a multiplayer beta, EA announced today. The beta is due out this fall for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but there is no word yet on what it will offer, besides giving players a first chance to experience its "epic scale."

No Caption Provided

Everyone who pre-orders Battlefront II will get into the beta early, though EA didn't give any indication as to when the early access period will begin. This offer also applies to people who have already pre-ordered. Additionally, people who pre-order get the Epic Lightsaber Mastery Star Card for Yoda, as well as everything listed below:

  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi outfits for Kylo Ren and Rey
  • Instant access to six hero and starfighter epic Star Cards
    • Kylo Ren: Power Reach and Solid Freeze
    • Rey: Far Sight and Deep Mind
    • Starfighters: Enhanced Auxiliary Power and First Order ship upgrade
  • Instant access to Star Wars: The Last Jedi Millennium Falcon with updated sounds and appearance

Battlefront II launches on November 17 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. People who buy the $80 Elite Trooper Deluxe edition or subscribe to EA/Origin Access can play early.

Looking ahead, Battlefront II will have a big presence during EA's E3 briefing tomorrow. The developer will show off a 40-player multiplayer match on Theed. Unlike 2015's Battlefront, which shipped 14 million copies, the sequel will have a single-player campaign--John Boyega should be happy. The campaign is being made by Motive Studios, while DICE is again handling the multiplayer.

EA's E3 briefing begins at 12 PM PT on June 10 and is expected to run for 90 minutes. Here's how you can watch it and more details about what to expect. You can also check out this rundown of all the EA games confirmed for the show so far.

EA's E3 Press Conference Features 8 Games, Possibly Including Two Unannounced Ones

By Eddie Makuch on Jun 10, 2017 12:01 am

Just days before EA's E3 press conference, the company confirmed that it will have at least eight games to talk about during its EA Play event. More significantly, two of them could be titles that have not yet been announced. Possibilities include the various Star Wars titles it has in development, BioWare's new IP, and an Assassin's Creed-style game.

In a blog post titled "Get a first look at eight games and more surprises," EA listed off six of the games it will show during its briefing on June 10. It provided no indication of what kind of surprises to expect, whether they're The six confirmed games are:

As for the other two games, there is no word yet on what they could be. EA said in its blog post that the briefing will include "new reveals," so they could be brand-new titles. The show starts at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET on Saturday, June 10, and is expected to run for 90 minutes. GameSpot will bring you all the news from the show and more as it's announced. You can watch EA's EA Play event live here.

Check Out Ace Combat 7's E3 2017 Trailer

By Alex Newhouse on Jun 10, 2017 12:00 am

E3 2017 is almost upon us, and today Bandai Namco released its E3 trailer for Ace Combat 7.

Unsurprisingly, the short, story-focused video shows off a lot of dogfights and acrobatic flying, but it also reveals a more human element of the game. Although it's not a gameplay video, it's still interesting to get a sense of the scale and stakes of the war that the game focuses on. You can see the trailer for yourself above.

The game is the latest in the long-running dogfighting series, and developer Project Aces said that it intends for it to return to the franchise's roots. Back in January, GameSpot sat down with producer Kazutoki Kono and learned that the studio felt it had to bring Ace Combat back to its original, semi-fictional universe after Ace Combat 6 was set in the real world. "'Real world' is very easy to make credible, easy to believe," he said. "But there are so many constraints as a game. On the other hand, if it's a hypothetical world, lots of additional setup is needed, but there is a lot of freedom within it."

You can read our entire feature about Ace Combat 7 here.

The game was originally planned for launch by the end of 2017, but last month Kono announced that it would actually be released sometime in 2018. The publisher explained that the delay was necessary to ensure that Project Aces "achieve[s] the vision" it has for the game.

It's coming for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and it'll feature VR support. At E3, the developer will show off non-VR missions for the first time.

Keep an eye all week on GameSpot for news and impressions about Ace Combat 7 coming out of E3 2017.

With E3 just about to begin, Sony today launched a new PlayStation 4 Slim color and kicked off a sale on a number of high-profile games as part of the Days of Play campaign.

The gold-color PS4 Slim (which comes with a matching DualShock 4) is out now, priced at $250. Additionally, DualShock 4 controllers (all colors) are marked down to $40, while the Gold wireless headset is discounted to $80 for the duration of the sale.

No Caption Provided

In terms of game sales, the PlayStation Store is offering Nioh, MLB The Show 17, and Horizon: Zero Dawn for $40 each. Some of the other deals include Mass Effect: Andromeda ($30), Battlefield 1 ($30), Prey ($40), Uncharted 4 ($20), and Watch Dogs 2 ($25), among others. You can see all the deals right here on the PlayStation Store website.

A number of brick-and-mortar retailers are also offering deals on PlayStation games this week--check with your local store for lists of discounted games.

Additionally, 12-month PS Plus memberships are going for $50 instead of $60 in the Days of Play sale. On top of that, everyone who spends $100 or more on the PS Store through June 20 will receive a $15 credit--and PS Plus memberships count towards the $100.

The Days of Play game sale and PS Plus offer wrap up on June 16.

Sony's E3 2017 briefing is scheduled for Monday, June 12, starting at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET. For lots more, check out GameSpot's written breakdown of what we think Sony can do to win the show. You can also watch GameSpot editors discuss Sony's E3 prospects in this video.

E3 2017 Trailer For Castlevania Spiritual Successor Bloodstained Revealed

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 09, 2017 11:07 pm

Ahead of E3 2017, publisher 505 Games has released a new trailer for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Igarahsi's spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

The video showcases a previously unseen church area and gives fans a glimpse at some of heroine Miriam's new weapons and skills. The trailer ends with a battle against a new boss known as Bloodless, who uses parasols and torrents of blood to attack Miriam. You can watch the full video below.

Like the Castlevania series, Bloodstained is a side-scrolling adventure with RPG elements. The game is set in 18th century England and tasks players with navigating a complex, demon-infested castle on a quest to find its mysterious summoner and break the curse that was placed on Miriam.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was unveiled back in 2015 and quickly became one of the most funded games in Kickstarter history (until it was dethroned by Shenmue 3). The title was originally slated to launch on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Vita this year, but it has since been delayed to 2018. A Wii U release was also in the works, but development on that version was cancelled and moved over to Nintendo's new Switch. More details on Bloodstained are set to be revealed at E3 next week.

E3 2017: Every Game Rumor About Assassin's Creed, Pokemon, SNES Classic, And More

By Eddie Makuch on Jun 09, 2017 10:43 pm

E3 is almost here. There are always rumors about what might get revealed and shown off at the year's biggest gaming event, and this year is no different. While we haven't yet seen a flood of leaks, as we did last year, we do have some sense of what to expect over the next week.

We're just a day away from the unofficial start to E3 2017, with EA's briefing on Saturday, June 10. Below is a roundup of all the big rumors heading into E3 2017. Let us know in the comments below if we've missed anything, and as always, you can send in tips at news@gamespot.com.

You can follow along with all of our news, videos, and impressions at our E3 hub. There you'll also find our lists of all the games confirmed at the event, what we want to see from specific games, how we think the three console manufacturers can win, and more.

Multiplatform

This year's Assassin's Creed game has already been confirmed, but we've yet to receive any real information about it. Whatever it might be, it's expected to be formally announced at E3 during Ubisoft's briefing on Monday, but we may already know some of the key details thanks to multiple leaks and reports. It's rumored to be called Assassin's Creed: Origins, with a hero named Ba Yek. The game will reportedly be set in ancient Egypt. [More details]

Bethesda is rumored to announce a new Wolfenstein title, The New Colossus, at its briefing on Sunday night. This rumor actually dates back to E3 2016, where a follow-up to The New Order was teased with the name The New Colossus. After that, a handful of leaks and reports have suggested a sequel is coming, and this E3 may be where we finally get out first official look at the shooter. [More details]

Another big rumor this year is that Bethesda will possibly announce a sequel to The Evil Within, from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami's studio, Tango Gameworks. This was teased as part of Bethesda's E3 2017 invitation card, which featured the company's many franchises. It also hinted that we could see some new or dormant IPs revealed or revived during this year's show. [More details]

Sony

Nothing has tied it to E3 as of yet, but a noted analyst said earlier this year that Sony might release a new, more powerful PlayStation in 2018. With Microsoft planning to go heavy on the Scorpio details during its press conference, Sony could take the wind out of its competitor's sails by showcasing a new, even more impressive piece of hardware. [More details]

Microsoft

Microsoft has already made it clear Halo 6 won't be at E3, so you should set your expectations accordingly if you're a Halo fan. However, the company did tease that it will have a "little something" for the Halo brand at the show. As of yet, we don't know if it's a new game or, more likely, something else entirely, like new content for Halo 5 or Halo Wars 2. [More details]

On Thursday, an image of a supposedly new Halo game, Halo: Gravemind, emerged online. Halo boss Frank O'Connor called this "fake news," so it seems like an elaborate fake. The presence of the term Halo 6 which, as noted above, will not be at the show, only further cements that Gravemind is nonsense. [More details]

Nintendo

There have been a good amount of rumors swirling around Nintendo this year. This includes a new Mario/Rabbids crossover game that's reportedly titled Battle Kingdom. It's rumored to be a turn-based role-playing game where Rabbids dress up as Mushroom Kingdom characters, so that's cool. Some artwork from the game has also surfaced, further solidifying this as something you can expect to see during Ubisoft and/or Nintendo's respective E3 events. [More details]

Switching gears, a new version of Pokemon Sun and Moon for Nintendo Switch is reportedly on the way. The new game is reportedly titled Pokemon Stars. It was not announced during the Pokemon-themed Nintendo Direct on June 6--though updated versions of the games are on the way to 3DS--but Stars could show up during Nintendo's main news event at E3 on June 13. [More details]

Following the NES Classic console in 2016, Nintendo is reportedly preparing another Classic console, this one for the SNES. If it follows the model of the NES Classic, you can expect it to have a similar form factor to the SNES (but smaller) and come bundled with a number of games. We would hope Nintendo has listened to feedback and includes a longer controller cord and is easier to find this time around. The report suggests it's due out this year, so an E3 announcement could make sense, timing-wise. [More details]

Kingdom Come: Deliverance Release Date, Impressive Story Trailer Released Ahead Of E3

By Eddie Makuch on Jun 09, 2017 10:29 pm

Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the medieval role-playing game made by Mafia creator Daniel Vavra's new studio, will launch on February 13, 2018. The release date was announced in a new story trailer for the game, which follows the story of Henry. He's the son of a blacksmith whose life gets turned upside down when his village is burnt to the ground by an evil group of mercenaries.

Deliverance will launch at the same time for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, priced at $60.

Funded on Kickstarter, the open-world RPG promises "stunning high-end graphics," a non-linear story, challenging combat, and real historical characters from the time period. And unlike other medieval RPGs, there is no fantasy element to Deliverance.

Deliverance is being developed by Warhorse Studios, with publishing support from Saints Row and Dead Island studio Deep Silver.

"What Could Pawsibly Go Wrong?": New Bubsy Game Coming To PS4 And PC

By Patrick Faller on Jun 09, 2017 10:20 pm

Yep, he's back. Bubsy has a new game on that way, marking the character's return this fall in another platformer for PlayStation 4 and PC. It's been 21 years since the last original Bubsy game, Bubsy 3D, and 24 years since Bubsy first made his debut on Super Nintendo with Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind. Check out the trailer for the new game below.

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back also appears to mark the return of Bubsy's original publisher, Accolade Game, which is promising to make a come back with a host of new games. "Get ready for the return of iconic games and franchises like Busby, Hardball, Slave Zero, Deadlock, Eradicator, Redline and more!" the publisher said.

On its (new) website, Accolade says Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back will feature "a bevy of exotic locations as [Bubsy] travels the planet looking for the beloved Golden Fleece." The gameplay is similar to the series' previous games, with Bubsy running, dodging, and jumping over the Woolies.

Accolade also promises Bubsy will have more than 100 new one liners, so whether his lines annoy or delight you (or both), there will be plenty of variety. This time, Black Forest Games is developing the title. The studio previously rebooted the Giana Sisters series with Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams.

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is out sometime this fall.

Super Mario Odyssey: What We Want At E3 2017

By Justin Haywald on Jun 09, 2017 08:30 pm

What We Know So Far

Super Mario Odyssey on Nintendo Switch introduces one big new change to the classic action game's formula: Mario's hat is alive. While we don't have details on the story, other characters, or why Mario's hat has developed a mind of its own, we do know that the game is returning to the sandbox style of earlier games like Super Mario 64.

Odyssey was announced for the Nintendo Switch in January, and it's set to launch exclusively on Nintendo's new platform sometime this holiday. In a video segment shortly after Odyssey's announcement, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto described the game as "a little more on the core side, something that people who like action games can really get into," differentiating Odyssey from recent "casual" entries such as Super Mario Run.

The new, unfamiliar settings for Odyssey put it in a place unlike any previous Mario game. One city level called New Donk City, which looks highly reminiscent of New York City, is even filled with normal-sized humans--a strange juxtaposition against Mario's short, cartoony appearance.

And Mario's eyeball-bearing cap will introduce new gameplay mechanics; one we've seen so far involves the plumber tossing out his cap, letting it hang in mid-air, and then using the hat as a floating platform to reach new areas.

What's Confirmed For E3

Nintendo already announced that Super Mario Odyssey will be a centerpiece for the developer's E3 presentation. Attendees will get a chance to play the game themselves, and everyone will be able to watch presentations of the game in action during the show.

What We Hope To See At E3

Although we know Odyssey is coming in 2017, we'll likely learn the exact release date. But in addition to the standard gameplay details, Nintendo will hopefully reveal what, if any, multiplayer component the game has. Princess Peach and Luigi were both playable characters in Mario's last major adventure, Super Mario 3D World, so it's possible the posse could return here in some form. And many other Switch games have taken advantage of the system's network functionality and unique control scheme to introduce novel split-screen modes--it'll be exciting to see if and how Nintendo tackles that setup for a new Mario game.

But the biggest thing we want to see at E3 is what form Mario's infamous nemesis Bowser will take. While we probably won't see any climactic battles against the brute, we're likely to get a hint at what role he plays in trying to foil Mario's adventures once again.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild: What We Want At E3 2017

By Matt Espineli on Jun 09, 2017 08:30 pm

What We Know So Far

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild stood front-and-center during Nintendo's E3 showcase last year. But now that the game is officially out, what's on our minds is its upcoming DLC. Titled The Master Trials, the expansion adds new costumes, a challenge mode, an additional difficulty setting, and a variety of other features.

Below you can find articles highlighting important details we know about the game's DLC thus far:

What's Confirmed For E3

Nintendo has not confirmed whether or not The Master Trials will be showcased at this year's E3. But given how the expansion is set for a summer release, we can only assume that Nintendo might announce more details at the show.

What We Hope to See at E3

Our biggest hope at this year's E3 is for Nintendo to showcase The Master Trials and then release it right away. If not that, then we at least want to hear an official release date. We've been craving to play more new content in Breath of the Wild, so any new details would be welcome.

We also hope to hear more details about the game's second, more story-focused DLC, which is scheduled to release sometime this winter. We're crossing our fingers for a new trailer or even a five-second teaser offering a hint at what the new story could expound upon.

How Can Microsoft Win E3 2017?

By GameSpot Staff on Jun 09, 2017 08:30 pm

With the Scorpio readying for its launch this holiday season, there's still some skepticism in the air about Microsoft after some rather disappointing cancellations and lukewarm reception to their first party content. Still, Microsoft can do a lot to switch things up, and with the conference just around the corner, now is a good time to reveal what else they've got up their sleeve. The GameSpot staff took some time to share their own thoughts about what the Xbox brand can do to improve, and how the Scorpio can make good on its potential.

What do you think about Microsoft's outlook for E3 2017? Share your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to check out our other articles on Nintendo and Sony.

Reveal What's Next For Halo | Eddie Makuch, Associate Editor

No Caption Provided

Microsoft has said Halo 6 won't be at E3 itself, but instead we'll see a "little something" related to the series. The Halo series feels like it needs a shot in the arm in terms of storytelling, and it's exciting to think about what Microsoft might do to keep the franchise feeling fresh and exciting. The company says it's taken the feedback around Halo 5 to heart, so now it needs to show how that is bearing out in reality. Interestingly, Microsoft has said it sees an opportunity to extend the franchise beyond the shooter and RTS categories, so it might finally be time to see what's in store. If not a new game, it would be refreshing to learn more about the Steven Spielberg Halo TV show or possibly see an attempt to make a movie based on the series.

Reveal VR's Potential | Justin Haywald, Managing Editor

VR is amazing technology, but it still hasn't hit consumer critical mass. Microsoft has the ability to change that. While the company's consoles don't currently support any VR headsets, Microsoft invested heavily into its separate augmented reality Hololens device. Although that piece of hardware isn't quite ready for consumers (and it works as a standalone computer anyway), having an Xbox One that's compatible with either the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift would provide a huge boost to the number of people with access to hardware that can run VR games. We have yet to see a true "killer app" in VR gaming, and the support for Sony's PSVR has slowed to a trickle. Microsoft isn't going to be VR's savior (not yet, anyway), but a big E3 announcement could push the tech back into the limelight.

Bring The Big Exclusives | Tamoor Hussain, UK Editor

No Caption Provided

Microsoft has some ground to make up in the exclusives department, especially after the high-profile cancellation of Scalebound. That Platinum Games title was the standout game in an exclusive lineup that is otherwise quite barren. Microsoft needs to bring big exclusives to E3 this year, and it needs to bring a lot of them. Of course, it's only natural that much of Microsoft's focus will be on Project Scorpio, but it's important for the platform holder to also recognize that the Xbox One audience needs to be addressed. In all likelihood, there's probably a large contingent of Xbox One owners that feel the console hasn't justified itself at this point and will not be keen to move on to Scorpio just yet. To score big at E3, Microsoft needs to give those Xbox One owners as much to get excited about as it does potential Project Scorpio owners.

Show Why Scorpio Is Worthwhile | Chris Pereira, News Editor

Since launch, the standard PS4 has outsold the PS4 Pro, and Microsoft expects there to be a similar split between the Xbox One S and Scorpio. That's no real surprise; Scorpio is intended as a more niche, hardcore-focused device, rather than the default option for someone interesting in playing Xbox One games. But that doesn't mean Microsoft can't win over some people with Scorpio's E3 showing.

One hurdle to overcome is the notion that Scorpio is meant exclusively for those with a 4K display. Microsoft needs to find ways to make Scorpio's benefits obvious--not everyone has a 4K TV, and the quality of streaming video won't do Microsoft any favors in showcasing high-resolution content (as Sony discovered with its PS4 Pro reveal last year). Third-party games designed to run on all systems are unlikely to feature any meaningful Scorpio-only functionality, which may leave it to Microsoft's own games to demonstrate whether there's more to owning a Scorpio than better graphics. Whether it's improved load times, enhanced visual effects, or something else, this E3 will play a major role in dictating how the public views Scorpio. Allowing people to walk away with the assumption that it does nothing more than play games at 4K would be hard to come back from.

Aggressive Scorpio Pricing | Michael Higham, Associate Editor

Project Scorpio's technical details were fully unveiled back in April along with a few performance benchmarks. Its eight-core CPU and 6 teraflop GPU wrapped into a system-on-chip (SOC) with 12GB of GDDR5 RAM impressed us as it pumped out native 4K at 60 FPS in the Forzatech demo. But those parts aren't cheap. So, what's it going to cost us to game on the most powerful console to date?

We've all speculated anywhere between $400 to $600, but if Microsoft wants to reel in those on the fence and grab the attention of those only mildly interested, it needs to be priced aggressively. The lower the barrier to entry, the easier it'll be for everyone to open up to the idea of buying an upgraded version of the Xbox console, allowing it to realistically compete with the PS4 Pro.

Don't Rely On Scorpio As The Showstopper | Miguel Concepcion, Editor

Since it seems like Microsoft has already shared all the essential specs about Project Scorpio, summarizing familiar selling points about the console would make the media briefing feel drawn out and boring. Aside from a reasonable price point, the Scorpio can only increase consumer enthusiasm by finally showing how much better the games look on the console. This--along with a disappointing dry spell of exclusives recently--is why Microsoft can only win with a new hardware or software announcement that no one expected. If it's VR, it needs to have features that the PlayStation VR lacks. If it's a game, it needs to be on the same level as the surprise game announcements of Sony's 2015 E3 press conference.

Marvel's Black Panther Poster Revealed, Trailer Expected Tonight

By Dan Auty on Jun 09, 2017 07:27 pm

Black Panther made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in last year's Captain America: Civil War, and his standalone movie arrives in February 2018. An early teaser for the film is expected tonight, but ahead of that we have the first poster--check it out below:

No Caption Provided

Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed). Chadwick Boseman plays the lead role, and cast also includes Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Martin Freeman, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

Marvel released a synopsis for the movie earlier this year. It reads: "Black Panther follows T'Challa who, after the events of Captain America: Civil War, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T'Challa's mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk."

Black Panther hits theaters on February 16, 2018.

Upcoming Turtle Beach Headsets First To Connect Directly To Xbox, Also Available For PS4

By Michael Higham on Jun 09, 2017 10:00 am

Turtle Beach announced two new headsets today that are geared towards console gamers: the Stealth 700 and Stealth 600. Both models will have separate SKUs for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles and offer wireless connections. While the PS4 model connects through a USB dongle, the Xbox One version will be one of the first headsets to connect to the console directly.

Turtle Beach touts virtual surround sound as one of the key features of these headsets. The Stealth 700 offers DTS Heaphone:X technology for virtual 7.1 on PS4 and the Stealth 600 uses proprietary surround tech from Turtle Beach for both systems. All models are equipped with 50 mm audio drivers and incorporate exclusive "Superhuman Hearing" technology that is supposed to emphasize minor in-game audio cues like footsteps. Each headset is also said to fit comfortably for users who wear glasses. Battery life is projected to last between 10 to 15 hours on a full charge.

A few differences set the two headsets apart. The Stealth 700's ear cups feature a synthetic leather upholstery while the Stealth 600 uses a breathable mesh. Bluetooth connectivity and active noise cancelling are also exclusive to the Stealth 700's. The Turtle Beach audio app will also allow 700 users to tweak equalization settings and set dynamic chat volume to match in-game volume.

The Stealth 700 and Stealth 600 headsets will cost $150 USD and $100 USD, respectively. Turtle Beach is taking pre-orders on its site today and all SKUs are set to release sometime in September this year.

Tekken 7 Update Out Now, Here's What It Does

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 09, 2017 04:20 am

Bandai Namco has released a patch for the PS4 version of Tekken 7, which addresses some issues with the game's online matchmaking functionality.

Specifically, the patch improves stability and establishes connections with other online players "more consistently." Following the update, the game will no longer share a player's character, title, rank, and wins before a match.

Additionally, the patch makes some changes to the game's voice chat, allowing players to toggle it on or off from the Option menu. Voice chat is now set to off by default.

Bandai Namco says it will make additional improvements to the game "in the coming days." The developer will release a similar patch for the Xbox One and PC versions "during the week of June 12," which likewise will address online stability and fix other assorted bugs. You can learn more about the patch on the Tekken website.

Free Copies Of Payday 2 For Steam Available For A Limited Time

By Chris Pereira on Jun 09, 2017 03:51 am

With an Ultimate Edition of Payday 2 on the way, DLC is disappearing from online stores as individual purchases. Alongside this move, developer Overkill is giving away the base game itself for free on PC, but only for a limited time.

As of today, you can claim a copy of Payday 2 through Steam. This is a permanent copy of the game--it isn't something you'll only have access to for a limited time. However, only a total of 5 million copies are being offered, so you'll need to add it to your Steam library before they're all gone. This will also entitle you to a copy of the recently announced Payday VR, which will be given for free upon release to anyone who owns Payday 2.

As noted above, this copy won't allow you to download the many DLC packs that have been released over the years. That's because these are no longer up for sale as Overkill prepares to launch Payday 2: Ultimate Edition on PC. This packages the base game with all of the DLC released to date. Future updates released for the game will be free.

We recently learned that a team of ex-Payday developers, now working at the studio 10 Chambers Collective, are working on a "four-player hardcore co-op action horror FPS." It carries the memorable name GTFO.

Halo: Gravemind Leak Is "Fake News," Exec Says

By Eddie Makuch on Jun 09, 2017 03:47 am

Just days before E3, an image for what purports to be a new Halo game appeared online today. You may not want to get your hopes up, however, as a Halo higher-up is saying it's "fake news."

A screen capture of what appears to be marketing material shared on Snapchat shows an unannounced Halo game, Halo Gravemind, with Creative Assembly mentioned as the developer. A release date of October 10, 2017 is displayed. A "6" can be seen at the bottom, with the suggestion being that Gravemind might in some way tie into the next numbered entry in the series.

While Halo 6 is a real game that is happening, it looks like Gravemind is not. Halo franchise development director Frank O'Connor responded to the Gravemind image today on Twitter, calling it "fake news." He also used the hashtag #MHGA, or Make Halo Great Again.

The tweet in full reads: "Fakey McFakeskins tell me oh, how does your bogus 'game leak' grow? With silver bells and photoshopped cockleshells. FAKE NEWS! #MHGA!"

Another tweet says: "The Tom Morello barn leak is the apex of artistic leaks. It will never be topped for sheer frenetic madness."

We have contacted Microsoft in an attempt to get more details. We'll update this post with anything we hear back .

The Gravemind is the final form of the parasite-like evil alien force called The Flood, first appearing in Halo 2. People are speculating that Halo: Gravemind could be a horror game, and that would seem to be in Creative Assembly's wheelhouse, as the studio made Alien: Isolation. More recently, the UK-based team developed the Halo RTS, Halo Wars 2.

Microsoft has already confirmed that Halo 6 will not be at E3, though the company did intriguingly say that it will have a "little something" to show at E3 related to Halo.

The Xbox E3 2017 briefing is scheduled for Sunday, June 12, starting at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET. Earlier today, Microsoft confirmed that the show will be longer than usual because it wants to show more games. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

Two New Gaming Headsets From Logitech Announced Today

By Michael Higham on Jun 09, 2017 03:07 am

Logitech, known for its robust lineup of PC gaming peripherals, unveiled two new headsets that opt for minimalist designs: the G433 7.1 and the G233 Prodigy. Both feature detachable boom microphones with built-in pop filters and 3.5 mm audio jacks. They also use the same 40 mm Logitech Pro-G audio drivers and basic ergonomic frame design, but a few details set them apart.

The G433 comes in four different colors: black, blue, blue camouflage, and red. Two types of ear pads come packaged; Logitech's traditional sports mesh pads are attached to the headset out of the box, but can be swapped for ear pads with a velour-like microfiber upholstery. Two 3.5 mm cables are in the box (6.6-foot and 4.9-foot) to plug into the audio jack that resides under the left ear cup, which allows the headset to work on most devices. A small USB converter is also packaged which is required to get virtual 7.1 surround sound.

While the cheaper G233 headset only comes in a black and blue color scheme and lacks swappable ear cups, it shares many of the same features as the G433. Outside of the USB sound card for virtual 7.1 surround sound, the G233's audio quality will be identical to its counterpart since they use the same audio drivers. This also means that the G233 only comes packaged as a 3.5 mm headset since it lacks a USB converter.

The G433 will retail for $100 USD and £110 GBP, while the G233 will cost $80 USD and £80 GBP. Both headsets are due to hit shelves later this month at an unspecified date.

PSA: Gears Of War 4 Free Trial Begins Tomorrow

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 09, 2017 03:06 am

Players who have yet to play Gears of War 4 will soon have a chance to try the game free of charge. Beginning tomorrow, Xbox One and PC players can download a limited-time trial version.

The free trial runs until June 15 and lets players experience 10 hours of the game, including the first act of its single-player campaign, as well as the full Versus and Horde modes.

While the trial version can only be downloaded until June 15, you don't have to play it during that timeframe. Players can still play the full 10-hour trial as long as they download it by next Tuesday. You can find the full rundown of what the Gears of War 4 trial offers on the series' website.

The free trial also includes all of the new content The Coalition released earlier this week in its "biggest ever update" for Gears of War 4. In addition to new difficulty levels, the expansion made some significant changes to Horde mode, adding new Loot drops, 15 Horde skills, and two fan-favorite maps from previous installments. Existing skills can now also be raised to Level 6 following the update.

First War For The Planet Of The Apes Clip Is Haunting And Tender

By Dan Auty on Jun 09, 2017 02:50 am

The first clip from War for the Planet of the Apes has been released. It shows the introduction of Nova, a human girl who is taken in by the apes but is clearly mistrusted by their leader, Caesar. Check it out below:

A new poster focusing upon Nova has also been released, which you can see at the end of this story. You can also watch the final full trailer here.

The film stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, and Judy Greer. It follows Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014). It's directed by Matt Reeves, whose previous credits include Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Cloverfield, and he'll also helm the standalone Batman movie for DC.

In a recent interview with Slashfilm, Serkis spoke about the movie's "epic" scale. "It's an amazing arc that Matt and [co-writer] Mark Bomback have written," he said. "What they've managed to do each time, with Dawn and then with this one, is to amplify the stakes emotionally and scale-wise.

"It's very epic. It's on a massive scale not just because of its title, but because the stakes are just so much higher. And the global understanding... the apes find out there are other apes outside of the smaller group who are evolving and changing and discovering how much the virus is affecting humanity. It's a fantastic journey."

War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on July 14, 2017.

The Mummy Is Returning As A Pixel Platformer

By Patrick Faller on Jun 09, 2017 02:12 am

The latest film installment in The Mummy series is about to hit theaters but retro gamers might be more interested in what's coming out later this summer. The Mummy Demastered is a pixelated adventure game based on the new film and it launches in late August on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The game's developer, WayForward, is known for pixel games. It says Demastered will put players in the shoes of "an elite Prodigium agent who is tasked to take down Princess Ahmanet's army of the undead." The goal, of course, is to "save the world at any cost."

No Caption Provided

There are various settings including dark forest, maze-like military compounds, and the sandstorm-filled streets of London. The game is being released alongside two other The Mummy-themed gaming experiences. One is a location-based VR experience called The Mummy Prodigium Strike (available at locations in Los Angeles and New York), and the other is an iOS and Android game The Mummy Dark Universe Stories, an "episodic, supernatural adventure game" from the creators of Oxenfree. That launches later this month.

The Mummy the film is all-new cinematic reboot of the classic series, starring Tom Cruise out tomorrow. You can read our full review here on GameSpot and follow our coverage for the latest news on The Mummy Demastered.

Nintendo Switch EShop Adds Two More Games

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 09, 2017 01:49 am

The Nintendo eShop has been updated today, bringing another pair of notable games to Nintendo Switch.

The first is Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, the most recent installment in WayForward's platforming series. Originally released last December for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Vita, and Wii U, the game stars the eponymous genie who must use her shape-shifting powers to transform into various animals and navigate side-scrolling stages. The Switch version includes a Hardcore mode and features platform-specific content in the form of 150 HD Rumble events.

No Caption Provided
Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4

The second title available today is another NeoGeo classic, Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad. Like the first Shock Troopers, 2nd Squad is a military action game that features overhead run-and-gun gameplay for up to two players. In addition to four playable characters, the game has branching paths and allows players to jump into vehicles to mow down foes.

The procedurally-generated platformer Gonner was also slated to arrive on Switch today, but the game's developer confirmed via Twitter that it had been pushed back indefinitely.

Switch owners can download Shantae: Half-Genie Hero for $20, while Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad retails for $8.

Cyberpunk 2077 Design Documents Being Held For Ransom, CD Projekt Red Confirms

By Chris Pereira on Jun 09, 2017 01:41 am

Documents related to the development of Cyberpunk 2077, the upcoming game from The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red, have somehow found their way out of the studio. Now, they're being held for ransom, with someone (or some group) threatening to release them if CD Projekt doesn't pay up.

The developer revealed this news in a message posted on Twitter today. It describes the documents as "a few internal files belonging to CD Projekt Red. Among them are documents connected to early designs for the upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077."

"A demand for ransom has been made, saying that should we not comply, the files will be released to the general public," CD Projekt's message continued. It said it has contacted the authorities and does not intend to pay the ransom, which it acknowledges might result in the files making their way online. It did not say what the ransom entails.

"The documents are old and largely unrepresentative of the current vision of the game," it said. "Still, if you're looking forward to playing Cyberpunk 2077, it would be best for you to avoid any information not coming directly from CD Projekt Red."

It's a somewhat bizarre situation, as it's not often that leaks manifest themselves in this way. One of the more famous leaks in the industry involves Half-Life 2, which saw its source code leaked following a Steam hack prior to the game's release. This also led to the public release of a playable version of the game. Valve would later attempt to lure the hacker into being arrested by the FBI under the guise of a job interview, though he was first arrested in Germany.

Little has been shared about Cyberpunk 2077 since its announcement; you can see a 2013 teaser trailer above. The RPG is slated for release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One at some point in the future. CD Projekt Red's message concludes, "When the time is right, you will hear about Cyberpunk 2077 from us--officially."

Xbox E3 2017 Briefing Is Longer Than Usual So Microsoft Can Show More Games

By Eddie Makuch on Jun 09, 2017 01:32 am

This year's Xbox E3 briefing will run longer than usual. Xbox boss Phil Spencer said on Twitter today that the show will be more than 90 minutes, explaining that the company extended the briefing beyond its usual length to accomodate more games.

"Had some games that just didn't want to leave out to hit the time, so made a call to just run a little long," Spencer said.

Microsoft is expected to officially announce the name, price, and release date for Project Scorpio during the briefing, while there will also of course be game announcements and demos.

Xbox engineering lead Mike Ybarra is traveling to Los Angeles for E3 right now and he tweeted a picture of the Xbox Scorpio chip he's carrying with him.

The length of this year's event isn't the only thing that's new for Microsoft, as the show is now taking place on the Sunday before E3 week instead of Monday. The event kicks off at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET, and we now know it will run until after 3:30 PM PT / 6:30 PM ET.

Keep checking back with GameSpot for more from E3 2017. Be sure to bookmark GameSpot's E3 2017 hub to stay in the loop.
