Everything We Want in Black Panther's Sequel

By Chris E. Hayner on Mar 01, 2018 12:12 am

There's a long road of movies to get through--Avengers Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, and more--before a Black Panther sequel arrives, but after the box office and critical reception the Marvel Cinematic Universe film has received, a sequel has to be practically guaranteed. What would it entail, though?

With such a long comic book history for the Black Panther, there are endless possibilities. Beyond that, the movie itself--and the future of the MCU--left so many options for a sequel to tackle. The GameSpot team has a few ideas that definitely need to happen, though.

First and foremost, director Ryan Coogler needs to return to direct the sequel. There's no denying that without Coogler, this movie wouldn't be anywhere near the same, and he needs to be the driving creative force behind whatever comes next.

As for the story, there are a number of things that should unfold in Black Panther 2. Shuri (Letitia Wright), for instance, needs a much bigger role. She was one of the most exciting standouts in the first movie, serving as the Q to T'Challa's (Chadwick Boseman) James Bond. However, in the comics, she also takes on the Black Panther mantle at a certain point. Imagine the possibilities of Shuri designing her own Panther suit.

The second film also needs to focus on a singular villain. In Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), Black Panther gave the MCU arguably its best villain yet. Putting the focus on one baddie allows for that character to be developed. Naturally, we hope Kraven the Hunter somehow finds his way into the MCU and the next Black Panther movie, but that's a character that happens to be controlled by Sony.

What else would we like to see in a Black Panther sequel? Check out the video above for all of GameSpot's ideas.

Fortnite: Battle Royale's Jetpacks Delayed, New Gun Coming First

By Kevin Knezevic on Mar 01, 2018 12:08 am

Fortnite developer Epic has been regularly introducing new weapons to the game's free-to-play Battle Royale mode on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with the most recent being the powerful Hand Cannon. Among the other new items on the way to the game are jetpacks, but it appears players will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on one.

PC Gamer has reported that jetpacks have been delayed, with a new gun set to debut in their place. According to Epic, jetpacks were originally slated to roll out this week in Fortnite: Battle Royale, but they have now been pushed back due to a "last minute design issue" that the developer discovered. Epic hasn't announced a new time frame for when the jetpacks will arrive in Battle Royale, but this week's new item will now be the Hunting Rifle.

Aside from the news of their delay, Epic hasn't shared many details about the jetpacks. The items were first mentioned in Fortnite's New Updates section as "coming soon" to the game, but their accompanying description didn't reveal how they would function or what modes they would be available in, only stating, "Take the fight to all new heights."

Following last week's 3.0.0 update, Season 3 of Fortnite: Battle Royale is now underway, giving players a new Battle Pass and rewards to unlock. This season's Battle Pass features 30 additional tiers--you can see all of the new Battle Royale rewards there are to unlock in our gallery. Players can also take part in Fortnite: Battle Royale's latest limited-time mode, Solid Gold.

If you're an Amazon Prime subscriber, you can now claim a pack of free items for Fortnite from Twitch. The Fortnite Twitch Prime Pack consists of several exclusive gliders and outfits for Battle Royale mode, as well as two heroes for Save the World. That pack is redeemable on all platforms, but PS Plus members can also grab a separate cosmetic pack on PS4 for free right now.

Captain Marvel Movie Adds Another Major Comic Book Character

By Chris E. Hayner on Feb 28, 2018 11:54 pm

Though the plot of the upcoming Captain Marvel movie remains largely unknown, small pieces continue coming together as production on the film continues. Already, fans have spotted star Brie Larson in a version of the famed Captain Marvel suit, while the cast list has continued to grow.

Now Deadline reports yet another actor joining the foray. Gemma Chan, best known from her roles in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and the AMC series Humans, has been cast in the role of Minn-Erva, better known to comic book fans as the villainous Doctor Minerva. In Marvel Comics lore, Doctor Minerva is a Kree geneticist and spy with similar powers to Captain Marvel.

No Caption Provided

What is known about the movie is that it will take inspiration from the Kree-Skrull war, with the Skrulls serving as the film's villains. That makes for an interesting situation where Doctor Minerva is concerned. The character has traditionally been at odds with Mar-Vell, who will be played by Jude Law in the film

Captain Marvel also stars Ben Mendehlson (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as a villain, and Samuel L. Jackson reprising his Marvel Cinematic Universe role of Nick Fury. The movie hits theaters on March 8, 2019.

WWE's CM Punk Has A New And Weird Job

By Chris E. Hayner on Feb 28, 2018 11:53 pm

Is CM Punk ready to tame the beast? He's about to find out as the UFC fighter and former WWE star has a new job. Punk will join retired NFL player Tiki Barber as a US host of Ultimate Beastmaster Season 3, Netflix's take on American Ninja Warrior set inside an obstacle course that looks like a giant dragon.

The news was announced by Punk and Netflix simultaneously, with the former WWE Champion tweeting, "The Beast is back and I'll be your host for Team USA along with [my] co-host the awesome [Tiki Barber]! Don't miss the most intense obstacle course in the world!!!!! [Ultimate Beastmaster] Season 3 coming in 2018!" The role will see him interviewing competitors and working with Barber to provide commentary while people run the obstacle course.

Punk replaces comedian Chris Distefano, who teamed with Barber in Season 2. He's not the only wrestler joining the series, though. Stu Bennett, who previously competed in WWE as Wade Barrett, will serve as one of the hosts for Team UK. "The beast is the gnarliest, most intense, most demonic obstacle course ever created," Bennett says in a video on Twitter. "And you are not going to want to miss this."

Naturally, Beastmaster isn't the only thing Punk has going on at the moment. While a return to UFC has yet to be announced, he's teased on Twitter that the company's June show in his hometown of Chicago may be where he'll fight next.

The series returns to Netflix later in 2018. The new season will feature teams from nine countries competing to be crowned the year's Ultimate Beastmaster.

New Overwatch Character Is Brigitte, Here's What She Can Do

By Tamoor Hussain on Feb 28, 2018 11:50 pm

Blizzard has revealed the newest hero joining Overwatch: Brigitte (pronounced Bri-gee-ta). The character has been detailed in the latest Public Test Realm patch notes and also on the game's official website, and is listed as a support class hero.

"An engineer with peerless armor-constructing abilities, Brigitte Lindholm is a valiant squire who fights on the front line to protect her allies," reads the patch notes. "Brigitte's armor engineering capabilities make her a stalwart support hero, capable of holding her ground in combat while also providing healing and armor for her allies." The official website, meanwhile, says "Brigitte specializes in armor" and can throw Repair Packs to heal teammates, or automatically heal nearby allies when she damages foes with her Flail.

No Caption Provided

Brigitte's primary weapon is a "heavy-hitting Rocket Flail," which she "swings in a wide arc in front of her to smash multiple enemies at once." The Whip Shot ability uses the flail to strike enemies at a distance and stun them. Landing blows allows Brigitte's passive ability, Inspire, to heal nearby allies over time.

Her Barrier Shield deploys a "frontal energy barrier that can absorb a limited amount of damage and protect any allies directly behind her." With her shield deployed, she can execute Shield Bash to "lunge forward and stun the first enemy in her path." From the sounds of it, she's a mixture of Reinhardt and her father, Torbjörn.

Her ultimate ability is called Rally, and is described as "a galvanizing call to arms that generates a substantial amount of armor for nearby allies and increases Brigitte's movement speed so she can lead them into battle." Check out Brigitte's origin story in the video above or read her story and learn about her abilities below, courtesy of Blizzard.

"No longer sitting on the sidelines, Brigitte Lindholm has taken up arms to defend those in need of protection. The youngest daughter of weapons designer, Torbjörn Lindholm, Brigitte was the first of his children to show an interest in mechanical engineering. Brigitte spent much of her spare time in her father's workshop, learning the trade and honing her skills. Her aptitude for engineering mirrored that of her father's, but Brigitte's primary interest was in armor fabrication and defensive systems, unlike Torbjörn, who was world renowned (and perhaps infamous) for the weapons he created.

No Caption Provided

"Everyone expected that Brigitte would continue her apprenticeship and follow in her father's footsteps. But her plans changed due to influence of another prominent figure in her life, her father's close friend and fellow Overwatch agent, Reinhardt Wilhelm. A close friend of the family and Brigitte's godfather, Reinhardt told Brigitte tales of heroes and chivalry as she grew up. After his retirement and Overwatch's fall, Reinhardt declared that he would become a knight-errant on a quest to bring justice. Before he left on his adventures, Brigitte surprised him by asking to join him as his squire. Reinhardt accepted.

"As a squire, Brigitte had many responsibilities, the most important of which was the upkeep of Reinhardt's Crusader armor (a design she was familiar with as the current version was designed by her father). But more and more, she found her main job was taking care of Reinhardt himself, trying to protect him from his overenthusiasm even as his body was breaking down from years of combat.

"Eventually, she realized that serving only as a mechanic wasn't enough, and that the best way she could aid Reinhardt was to become a warrior in her own right. While Reinhardt trained her in combat, Brigitte began to build her own suit of armor in secret. Now Brigitte fights at Reinhardt's side to protect him, and any others in need as knight and squire journey to make the world a better place, one battle at a time."

  • Rocket Flail: Brigitte's melee weapon has an extended range, enabling her to strike multiple enemies with a single swing.
  • Repair Pack: Brigitte throws a Repair Pack that can heal an ally. Any healing over that ally's maximum health provides them with armor instead.
  • Whip Shot: Brigitte throws her flail a long distance, dealing damage and knocking an enemy away from her.
  • Barrier Shield: Brigitte deploys a frontal energy barrier to absorb a limited amount of damage.
  • Shield Bash: Once her Barrier Shield is deployed, Brigitte can dash forward to stun an enemy.
  • Rally (Ultimate): Brigitte moves faster and provides all nearby allies with armor that lasts until it's removed by damage.

In the lead up to this announcement, Blizzard released a number of cool teases for Brigette, including one with a reference to the Jetpack Cat that was at one point a hero considered by Blizzard. While we're yet to see the impact she'll have on the way Overwatch is player, game director Jeff Kaplan previously described her as "very needed."

Free PS3 And PS Vita Games Being Dropped From PS Plus In 2019

By Tamoor Hussain on Feb 28, 2018 10:37 pm

From March 8, 2019, Sony will no longer offer PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita titles for free as part of a PlayStation Plus subscription. In a PS Plus update on the PlayStation Blog, the platform holder said it "will focus on PS4 titles" instead. The company has since confirmed to GameSpot that it will not be replacing the lower number of free games with more PS Plus games, meaning the total number of games given away each month with PS Plus from March next year will be two, down from six right now.

"This won't affect any games you've already downloaded, or will download, prior to March 8, 2019," it continued. "Those games will still be part of your PS Plus games library as long as you remain a member." It emphasized that game saves and other benefits will not be changed.

"Many of our fans are playing on the PS4 platform, with the increasingly vast number of PS4s in homes around the world," Sony continued. "We'll continue to prioritize the benefits you receive through your PS Plus membership, such as online multiplayer, online game save storage, PS4 monthly games, and exclusive PS Store discounts across content and network services."

Looking ahead, Sony said there are "plenty of new games and exclusive PS Store discounts to come for PS Plus members, and we look forward to sharing this with you."

PlayStation Plus, as a service, launched on the PS3 with Wipeout HD, LittleBigPlanet, and Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty as part of some its earliest freebies. Over the years it has come to be a big draw for existing and prospective PlayStation hardware owners. For some games, launching as a free PS Plus title has propelled their games into the limelight and, in the case of Rocket League, huge success.

In the same update, Sony announced March's free games for PS Plus. Bloodborne and Ratchet & Clank will be available on PS4, while PS3 owners get Mighty No. 9. Those with a PlayStation Vita can also download Claire: Extended Cut and Bombing Busters for free.

Here's All The Free Pokemon Available In Ultra Sun And Moon Right Now

By Kevin Knezevic on Feb 28, 2018 09:15 pm

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon launched for 3DS back in November, marking the mainline series' swan song on Nintendo's dual-screen handheld. As it did for the original Sun and Moon versions, The Pokemon Company is continuing to support the pair in the months following their release with free items and Pokemon. The company has a lot of giveaways lined up for 2018, which it has dubbed the Year of Legendary Pokemon, though those certainly won't be the only freebies players can expect to find this year.

We've rounded up all of the free distributions currently running for Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon below, many of which are also open to Sun and Moon players. We'll be updating this list as more giveaways are announced, so check back often to see what free items and Pokemon you can get. In the meantime, you can learn more about the latest Pokemon games in our rundown of everything new in Pokemon Ultra Sun And Ultra Moon. We also break down the differences between Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, if you're still unsure of which version to pick up.

Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon Free Gifts

Dialga/Palkia -- Feb. 2-28

Kicking off the Year of Legendary Pokemon are the Space and Time Pokemon, Palkia and Dialga. The two are being distributed in the US at GameStop from February 2-28, while UK residents can pick them up from participating Game stores. The Legendary you receive will depend on which version you have: players with either Sun or Ultra Sun receive Palkia, while those playing either Moon or Ultra Moon get Dialga. You'll need to redeem your download code by May 23 to claim the Legendaries.

Regigigas/Heatran -- Mar. 1

The Year of Legendary Pokemon continues with another pair of Legendaries originally from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl: Regigigas and Heatran. As before, the Pokemon you receive will depend on which seventh generation title you're playing: Sun and Ultra Sun players will get Regigigas, while those with a copy of Moon or Ultra Moon will receive Heatran. Unlike the Dialga and Palkia distribution, The Pokemon Company is giving away the download code for Regigigas and Heatran in the March Pokemon Trainer Club newsletter, so you'll need to create a free Trainer Club Account here and opt-in to the newsletter before March 1 in order to get the code.

Magearna

Unlike most other gift Pokemon, the Mythical Steel/Fairy-type, Magearna, is not available through the Mystery Gift feature, but via a QR code, which is compatible with Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon. After defeating the Elite Four and completing the main story, you can use the QR Scanner to scan the code below. Once you've done that, visit the Antiques shop in Hau'oli City and pick your Magearna up from the deliveryman waiting there.

Celebi -- Ends Sep. 21

Players who purchase either Pokemon Gold or Silver from the 3DS Eshop by September 21, 2018 will receive a bonus download code for the Mythical Pokemon Celebi. The code can be redeemed in Pokemon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, or Ultra Moon. We've outlined the steps you need to take to find and redeem the code here.

Last Day To Get These Free Legendary Pokemon In Ultra Sun And Moon

By Kevin Knezevic on Feb 28, 2018 09:05 pm

The end of the month is quickly approaching, which means 3DS players only have a little time left to claim the first of this year's many free Pokemon in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Today, February 28, marks the last chance players can pick up a free download code from GameStop stores in the US, which will net you one of the cover monsters from Diamond and Pearl, Dialga and Palkia.

The download code can be redeemed in any seventh generation Pokemon title, and the Legendary you'll get depends on which version you're playing. Those with a copy of Ultra Sun or Sun will receive Palkia, while Ultra Moon and Moon players will get Dialga. Each Pokemon also comes at a different level and knows a slightly different moveset depending on your version. You can see what moves they'll know in each game at the bottom of this story.

As usual, you'll need to redeem the download code through the Mystery Gift feature from the games' main menu. After selecting Mystery Gift, choose the option to receive your gift via a code/password, and input the code you picked up from GameStop when prompted. After your Pokemon is downloaded into the game, you'll be able to claim it from the deliveryman waiting inside any of Alola's Pokemon Centers. You need to redeem your download code by May 28.

The Pokemon Company is giving away a different Legendary Pokemon every month in 2018 as part of its Year of Legendary Pokemon celebration. Next month, players will be able to receive another pair of Legendaries from Diamond and Pearl, Regigigas and Heatran, in the seventh generation titles. Unlike February's distribution, the code for those Pokemon will be given away in March's Pokemon Trainer Club newsletter, which you'll only receive if you create a free Trainer Club account on the Pokemon website and opt-in for the newsletter by March 1. You can create a Trainer Club account here.

You can see all of the other free Pokemon available right now for Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon in our roundup. In addition to those, Pokemon Go players can also catch a handful of Legendaries. Battle Royale Game H1Z1 Includes Cars-Only Mode With Official Launch On PC

By Michael Higham on Feb 28, 2018 08:50 pm

H1Z1 has been in early access on Steam since 2015, but the game officially releases with version 1.0 today, February 28. Originally, H1Z1 was a survival game with a separate battle royale mode, but was eventually split the two games in 2016 between Just Survive (survival) and King of the Kill (battle royale). However, battle royale spawned a huge following and the mode was rebranded as just H1Z1, which is now out of early access.

One of the more notable features is the all-new Auto Royale mode; a twist on traditional battle royale that sticks a team of four players into a vehicle against up to 29 other teams (limit of 120 players total). Players cannot leave the vehicle and must take down enemy teams by shooting out of the car while one person drives. The result is a hectic car combat game in the normal H1Z1 map, but with power-ups, weapon pick-ups, and high-flying ramps scattered across the map. Think of it as Twisted Metal meets team-based battle royale.

Teams choose between an armored vehicle (ARV) or a more nimble sedan at the start, and then drive across the map to find color-coded pick ups for fuel, land mines, smoke screens, oil slicks, and weapons (like the brand new light machine gun) that spice up the fight. Just like battle royale, this mode features an ever-shrinking circle that forces players into smaller zones. Developer Daybreak Games stated that it tweaked the map so a few more objects and structures are easier to drive through which helps prevent vehicles from getting stuck. In addition, ramps provide a way to jump between buildings and land atop structures for even more power-ups.

Although Auto Royale is a separate queue in H1Z1, the car combat mode is currently in beta and will be tweaked based on community feedback, according to Daybreak. With the standard battle royale game officially released, however, comes a slew of gameplay tweaks and quality-of-life improvements. One new feature in the base game is tactical deployment, which lets players choose where to parachute in at the start in addition to providing a heat map that gives players an idea of where others chose to spawn. Airdrops have also increased in frequency and will contain more valuable loot. There's a new in-game scoring algorithm to reward aggressive play-styles, not just top 10 match placements, which wraps into the start of the first in-game competitive season for H1Z1.

H1Z1 is a PC exclusive available now on Steam for $20 USD. Console versions were being worked on but development went on hiatus back in 2016. For more on battle royale games, you can check out our comparison of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite: Battle Royale.

Last Chance To Catch Pokemon Go's Special Party Hat Pikachu

By Kevin Knezevic on Feb 28, 2018 08:45 pm

February 27 is Pokemon Day, and like last year, Niantic is celebrating the occasion by giving players a chance to capture a rare Pokemon in Pokemon Go. Players still have a few more hours to encounter a special Pikachu, which will come with an exclusive move it cannot typically learn in the mobile game.

From now until 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET on February 28, players will have a chance to capture a Pikachu wearing a party hat, similar to the one available during last year's Pokemon Day celebration. This time around, however, the party hat Pikachu will know the move Present.

In addition to that, players will earn triple the usual amount of Stardust they receive for each special Pikachu they capture, and new Trainer items based on the ones worn by the heroes of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen are now available to purchase from the in-game shop. You can take a look at the new outfits below.

No Caption Provided

Pokemon Day coincides with the anniversary of the original Pokemon Red and Green versions, which first released in Japan on February 27, 1996. In addition to the special Pikachu in Pokemon Go, The Pokemon Company is commemorating the occasion by releasing a new Pikachu Talk app for Amazon Alexa and Google Home, which allows users to ask Pikachu questions and hear it respond in its signature voice.

Additionally, The Pokemon Company is releasing Snapchat filters based on the three starter Pokemon from the Kanto region. Special merchandise is also being added to the Pokemon Center online store, including Legendary Pokemon pin sets and a new Charizard gallery figure that will kick off a special line of larger Pokemon figures.

Meanwhile, Pokemon Go players have another chance to capture the Legendary Pokemon Groudon and Kyogre, while Rayquaza will appear in Raid Battles until March 16.

First Wreck-It Ralph 2 Trailer Delivers Hilarious Web-Based Mayhem

By Dan Auty on Feb 28, 2018 08:15 pm

The much-anticipated sequel to 2012s animated arcade game comedy Wreck-It Ralph was originally set to be released in March this year, but although fans will now have to wait until November to see Ralph Breaks the Internet, the first trailer for the sequel has now been released.

The movie hits theaters on November 21, with John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, and Jane Lynch all reprising their roles from the first film. The trailer shows Ralph and Vanellope plunged into the brave new world of the internet, with predictability (and hilariously) chaotic results. Check it out above.

Ralph Breaks the Internet is directed by Zootopia's Rich Moore and Phil Johnston, and the voice cast also includes Taraji P. Henson, Alan Tudyk, and James Corden. When the movie was first announced, the filmmakers spoke about their plans for it. "From the moment we started working on the first Wreck-It Ralph, we knew there were so many possibilities with these characters," Moore said.

"This time, Ralph's wrecking wreaks havoc on the Web--as only he can do. Characters we loved in the first film are back and we are ecstatic to be working with them--and the actors who voice them--once again. The world of the internet is the perfect place to send Ralph and Vanellope. The scope and scale are so vast and the possibilities for comedy are endless."

Wreck-It Ralph was a big success. It made close to $50 million during its first weekend, outperforming Walt Disney Animation Studios' previous record-holder, Tangled. The film went on to generate more than $470 million at the global box office against a $165 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature but ultimately lost out to Pixar's Brave.

Injustice 2 Legendary Edition Coming To PS4, Xbox One, PC With New Enhancements

By Tamoor Hussain on Feb 28, 2018 08:13 pm

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced Injustice 2: Legendary Edition, a new version of its superhero fighting game featuring the main game and all the downloadable content released since its original launch in May 2017.

Injustice 2: Legendary Edition will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC from March 27 and, along with the core roster, will have DLC characters Darkseid, Red Hood, Starfire, Sub-Zero, Black Manta, Raiden, Hellboy, Atom, Enchantress, and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles playable from the outset.

Premiere Skins that change Super Girl, Green Lantern, Flash, Cyborg, and Raiden into Power Girl, John Stewart Green Lantern, Reverse-Flash, Grid, and Black Lightning respectively, will also be part of the package.

With the launch of the Legendary Edition there will also be a number of enhancements to Injustice 2, including the introduction of an expanded tutorial called the "Learn Hub," new gear for all characters, a raised level cap of 30, and a new augment slot that unlocks at level 30.

A Day 1 Edition of Injustice 2: Legendary Edition will be available to pre-order soon. It contains a collectible coin, a "comic exclusive download steel card," 11, 000 Source Crystals to use in-game, and a steel case. GameSpot has contacted Warner Bros. to confirm how much the Legendary Edition will cost.

In GameSpot's Injustice 2 review Peter Brown awarded it a 9/10. "With AI battles, online and local versus matches, the diverse and ever-changing Multiverse, and an impressive story mode, Injustice 2 offers numerous ways of engaging with its characters and testing your abilities without feeling repetitive," he said.

"NetherRealm has delivered a fighting game that can be enjoyed by new players and pros alike in ways that go beyond pure competition. It's a bar that every fighting game should meet, but one that has up until now seemed out of reach."

DC's Shazam Movie: First On-Set Image Reveals The Classic Costume

By Dan Auty on Feb 28, 2018 07:17 pm

There are two DC movies currently set for release in 2019--Shazam and Wonder Woman 2. The first of these is currently in production, and the first on set image of Shazam himself has now been revealed. The image was posted on Reddit and it shows star Zachary Levi wearing the character's classic costume. The set dressing suggests that the scene in question is set at Christmas--you can check it out here.

We might not long have to wait until we see the first official image of the character however. Last week director David F. Sandberg predicted that an on-set image might leak from the shoot, and told fans on Reddit, "if someone had managed to snap a shot of the suit last week when we were shooting outside they would have released an official pic right away. Since we got away with it they want to do more of an official thing. And it's right around the corner."

No Caption Provided

Shazam also stars Asher Angel as the character's young alter ego Billy Batson, and Mark Strong as the evil Doctor Sivana. It hits theaters on April 5, 2019. Earlier this month, a synopsis was released, which confirmed Sandberg's earlier hints that the movie will have a more lighthearted tone than many of DC's movies.

The synopsis reads: "We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson's case, by shouting out one word--SHAZAM!--this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult superhero Shazam, courtesy of an ancient wizard.

"Still a kid at heart--inside a ripped, godlike body--Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he'll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Doctor Thaddeus Sivana."

Shazam first appeared in 1939, when he was known by the name Captain Marvel. The character was bought by DC in 1971, when he was renamed, due to Marvel's ownership of the name Captain Marvel. A live action Shazam TV show was broadcast in the mid-'70s, while an animated show followed in 1981.

Mark Hamill Might Have Just Landed Himself A Role in Guardians Of The Galaxy 3

By Dan Auty on Feb 28, 2018 07:14 pm

Marvel and Star Wars are such huge franchises that it's inevitable that they share some of the same actors. Samuel L. Jackson and Andy Serkis have had notable roles in both series, and they might soon be joined by Luke Skywalker himself--Mark Hamill. Hamill was drawn into a conversation on Twitter with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn about potentially appearing in the next film in Marvel's sci-fi series.

It all started with a tweet from a fan @ianfee, who asked Gunn if he would cast Hamill in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn replied by commenting that Hamill lived nearby in Malibu, and he could "just come over and talk about it over a cup of coffee."

At this point Hamill himself entered the conversation and told Gunn that "as a good neighbor and an unemployed actor" he would love to pop over for a coffee and a chat. The exchange ended with Gunn saying "let's do it" and Hamill asking him to DM him for his contact details if he was "serious and a good neighbor."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters in 2020. Gunn has confirmed that this will be his final movie in the series, and last year explained that he wanted to ensure that Vol. 3 ended the trilogy properly. "There is a history in Hollywood of haphazard endings to trilogies, and I didn't want to become a part of that dishonorable tradition of pretending the third one doesn't exist," he said.

"My love for [the characters] goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine. I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit."

Star Wars And Marvel Lands Are Part Of $2.5 Billion Disneyland Expansion

By Dan Auty on Feb 28, 2018 07:14 pm

With Disney owning some of the biggest franchises in cinema, it was inevitable that the company would want to incorporate them into its theme park business. Two massive Star Wars parks have been under construction in the US for several years, and it has now been announced that Disneyland Paris will undergo a $2.5 billion expansion to incorporate areas based on Star Wars, Marvel, and the animated hit Frozen.

The plans were revealed by Disney boss Bob Iger, following a meeting in Paris with French president Emmanuel Macron. In a statement, Iger said: "We're very excited about the future of Disneyland Paris and continue to invest in its long-term success. The resort is already the leading tourist destination in Europe, and the transformative expansion we announced today will add even more of our beloved characters and unparalleled storytelling to create new lands, attractions and entertainment that further elevate the guest experience and drive new opportunities for tourism in this dynamic region."

The Star Wars, Marvel, and Frozen areas will be rolled out in stages, starting in 2021. While the company's specific plans are unknown, Disneyland Paris will start to introduce a Marvel element from this summer with characters appearing at the park and a Marvel-themed hotel opening in 2020. In addition, Iger hinted earlier this week that Black Panther could play a part in the company's future theme park plans.

The two Star Wars lands in Florida and California are set to open in 2019. Last summer, a scale model of the park design was revealed at the company's annual D23 convention. According to the company, "both Star Wars-inspired lands will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before Wild Space, where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life." Iger previously explained that they would be "largest single-themed land expansions ever," covering 14 acres of land.

Avengers: Infinity War Art Teases New Look Iron Man And Black Widow

By Dan Auty on Feb 28, 2018 07:11 pm

The first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War delivered plenty of action, plus an appearance from pretty much every hero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. A few more pieces of information have emerged this week, including new looks for both Iron Man and Black Widow.

A promotional image posted on Reddit reveals that Tony Stark will be sporting two new additions to his Iron Man suit--a bionic arm and a pair of wings. As Digital Spy points out, a fleeting shot in the recent Super Bowl TV spot for the movie suggests that Tony is missing an arm. We obviously don't know how he loses it, but it looks like he might be getting a bionic upgrade. As for the wings--Stark has never needed them to fly before, but hey, they look pretty cool.

Black Widow's change is less dramatic, but her new costume is partly green, which at the very least ties her in visually to her good pal the Hulk. Check the image out below:

In addition, a piece of Infinity War merchandise has revealed one of the movie's new villains. A promotional mug shows Thanos alongside his evil Black Order, plus a mysterious new bad guy. While we don't know who it is exactly, Heroic Hollywood has suggested that it could be Warbringer, a Chitauri warlord who first appeared in a 2015 issue of Marvel's Nova comic.

All will be revealed when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4. It is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who helmed the last two Captain America movies, and will follow it up with next year's currently untitled Avengers 4.

In related news, Captain American star Chris Evans last week seemed to confirm that the rumored Black Widow movie is in development at Marvel. Evans was asked about the success of Black Panther, and said, "There's nothing they can't do, man," he said. "I'm sure it's going to have the exact same effect when Captain Marvel comes out, and then the Black Widow movie comes out. Marvel just has the winning recipe."

Here's A Picture Of George R.R. Martin At A Grateful Dead Show In Mexico

By Eddie Makuch on Feb 28, 2018 09:11 am

George R.R. Martin, the wildly successful author of A Song of Ice and Fire, is still writing the sixth entry in the series, The Winds of Winter. But that's not all that's keeping him busy.

The novelist apparently attended a recent multi-day Dead and Company concert in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico earlier this month. Here's a picture of Martin and ESPN Radio Miami host Stugotz at the "Playing in the Sand" concert, as shared by ESPN's Pablo S. Torre:

In 2014, Martin revealed that he and his wife are big fans of Grateful Dead. "I'm certainly a fan of the Grateful Dead. I've attended Grateful Dead concerts and my wife Paris is perhaps even more of a fan... and I do have Grateful Dead lyrics always coming around and rattling around in my head," he said at the time in an interview with 92Y.

Dead and Company is the new version of Grateful Dead whose lineup includes classic Grateful Dead musicians including Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, along with John Mayer and others.

HBO adapted A Song of Ice and Fire into the award-winning and highly rated show Game of Thrones. The series continues in 2019 with its eighth and final season, though HBO is producing multiple spinoffs that could follow later.

As for the book series, Martin said last year that The Winds of Winter could be released in 2018, though no official announcements have come as of yet.

It looks like March 2018's free Games With Gold titles on Xbox One and Xbox 360 are rolling out early. On Xbox One, you can now download the motorcycle platforming game Trials of the Blood Dragon for the low, low price of $0.00. On Xbox 360, you can pick up Brave: The Video Game completely free. Based on the Pixar movie of the same name, the Brave video game puts you into the role of Merida in mythical Scotland. The game, which plays on Xbox One through backwards compatibility, also incorporates motion controls through the Kinect camera.

You can download Trials of the Blood Dragon and Brave: The Video Game now on your Xbox console or through the Xbox.com links here: Trials of the Blood Dragon; Brave.

Trials of the Blood Dragon is free on Xbox One throughout all of March, while Brave: The Video Game is free until March 15. Free Stuff Available In Metal Gear Survive, As Dev Apologizes For Issues

By Eddie Makuch on Feb 28, 2018 06:29 am

Metal Gear Survive launched earlier this month on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It didn't get the best review scores, and to make matters more difficult, the game suffered from some server issues. Developer Konami has now apologised for those problems and announced that it will give away free in-game currency to try to make up for the issues. Not only that, but a new patch has been rolled out to address balance issues and more.

"We know there's been some bumps during launch and we're working hard to sort out the final issues," Konami wrote on Twitter. To make up for the problems, Konami is giving away 100 SV coins and 1 Premium boost pass to everyone who created an avatar in the game before February 27. If you did, you only need to log in to redeem your bonuses.

As for the new patch, Metal Gear Survive has been updated to tweak the balance for the Clear Rank requirement on hard-level co-op missions. Additionally, and proving that patch notes are The Best™, this patch "fixe[s] a recipe for custom undergarments." You can see the full patch notes in the tweet embedded above.

Finally, Konami mentioned in a follow-up tweet that the issue related to Support Defender characters mysteriously vanishing has now been fixed. "Thank you for your understanding, patience, and support," the studio wrote.

GameSpot's Metal Gear Survive review scored the game a 5/10.

"For the most part, Metal Gear Survive feels oppressive, demanding, and obtuse, and needlessly so," reviewer Tamoor Hussain said. "It's a shame because there's actually a good survival game in there, but the pressures it places on you make uncovering and enjoying that unappealing. Over time the ability to manage thirst and hunger becomes slightly more manageable, especially if you play the multiplayer, but the lead up to that is debilitating. There's some satisfaction to be had if you persevere and savor the small victories, but you'll quickly find yourself thinking about if your time would be better spent playing something else."

Dragon Ball FighterZ Patch Notes Include Bug Fixes And More

By Eddie Makuch on Feb 28, 2018 05:56 am

A new patch is coming soon for the Dragon Ball FighterZ, and it'll make changes to the fighting game's modes, characters, and other features. The complete patch notes were posted on the Bandai Namco Facebook page and can be seen in full below.

For the training mode, this patch fixes a bug that caused the Assist Gauge to replenish when the player continuously guards and another that fixes an animation issue. There is also a new feature added in the patch called Party Match; this allows you to find matches with five other players. Additionally, the controller will now rumble in Ranked and Casual modes when the game has found an opponent; a small change, but a welcome-sounding one.

In terms of character changes, do not expect balance changes, but instead bug fixes. Specifically, the update fixes a bug that stopped Goku Black from vanishing after using the special move "The Work of a God" after an Ultimate Z change. Additionally, there was a bug that stopped Frieza from using the "You Must Die by My Hand" movie when on the ground in some circumstances, but this new patch will fix that.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Critic Peter Brown awarded the title a 9/10 in GameSpot's Dragon Ball FighterZ review and said, "Even if you think Dragon Ball is old hat, and even if you're intimidated by fighting games, there's a good chance you'll be drawn into the explosive action and personalities that expertly evoke the anime's infectious spirit."

If you're still new to the Dragon Ball fighting game, we've put together a guide of tips and everything you need to know about Dragon Ball FighterZ. We've also detailed how to find all the Dragon Balls and summon Shenron during a match, as well as how to unlock Android 21, Super Saiyan Blue Goku, and Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Patch Notes:

MODES

  • PARTY MATCH: Added the Party Match feature which enables automatic match-up with 5 other players to play a Party Match.
  • REPLAY CHANNEL: Expanded Replay Channel functions (added "Followed Player Channel" and "Search Channel") - Previous replay data will be deleted
  • RANKED MATCH / CASUAL MATCH: Added controller vibration to indicate when an opponent has been found
  • ARCADE MODE: Added "Return to Character Selection" and "Return to Course Selection" after completing a course
  • TRAINING MODE: Fixed a bug that shows the Dragon Balls collection animation while options were set on "Do not display"

  • ANDROID 21: Fixed bug that prevented Android 21 from disappearing immediately after she is called in for a Z-Assist and the main character takes damage
  • ANDROID 21: Fixed a red visual bug when Android 21 is called in for a Z-Assist and the main character takes damage
  • FRIEZA: Fixed a bug that prevents Frieza to properly use "You Must Die by My Hand!" when lying on the ground after his Golden Frieza transformation
  • HIT: Fixed a bug that prevents the "Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack" effect to disappear when used during Ultimate Z Change and Hit's Meteor Special Attack
  • HIT: Fixed a bug that prevents the Z-Assist character to disappear when the main character is damaged at the very same moment by Hit's "I Keep Improving" attack
  • TIEN: Fixed a bug that makes a character invisible when both the main character and Z-Assist character are damaged by Tien's attack "Farewell, Tien…"
  • CAPTAIN GINYU: Fixed a bug that allows Ultimate Z Change to be performed with less than 3 gauges after performing "Powerful Energy Wave"

  • DRAGON RUSH: Fixed a bug that reversed the guard controls when a character is being changed by a Dragon Rush

Here's What The New Sword Art Online Game Is Like

By Kevin Knezevic on Feb 28, 2018 05:30 am

2018 is a particularly big year for anime games. A ton of anime-inspired titles are on the way to various platforms this year, from Dragon Ball FighterZ and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth--both of which are already available--to My Hero Academia: One's Justice and the ambitious, open-world One Piece game, Grand Cruise. The most recent is Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet, Bandai Namco's latest adaptation of the popular anime and manga series, which arrived on PC and consoles on February 23.

Unlike previous Sword Art Online games, Fatal Bullet takes place within the world of Gun Gale Online (or GGO), the shooter/MMO that serves as the setting for the first arc of Sword Art Online's second season. Fittingly, Fatal Bullet plays out like a third-person shooter rather than a typical fantasy RPG, emphasizing cover and twitchy gunplay over swords and magic. And while the game doesn't follow the same story arc from the anime directly, many of SAO's most recognizable characters do make an appearance in Fatal Bullet in various roles, including Kirito, Leafa, and Asuna.

On the latest episode of GameSpot Live, we played through the early portions of Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet. In our two-hour session with the game, we explored the world, picked up treasure, gunned down enemies in dungeons, and met up with Kirito and other familiar Sword Art Online characters. If you weren't able to join us earlier for the livestream, you can watch a replay of our exploits in the world of GGO above.

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you'd like to see more of the title, you can watch Fatal Bullet's opening movie here. We've also recorded eight additional minutes of gameplay footage, featuring Sinon and Kirito battling giant scorpions and other robotic enemies.

Into The Breach Livestream: Defending Earth From A Kaiju Army

By Mike Mahardy on Feb 28, 2018 05:22 am

In 2012, developer Subset Games released FTL (Faster Than Light). It was one of the early games in the roguelike renaissance of the 2010s, and since its release on iOS devices, has maintained a devoted fanbase.

Today, we're playing Into the Breach, the long-awaited follow-up to FTL. As opposed to its predecessor, Into the Breach requires more careful planning than real-time reaction. However, many of the procedural aspects of FTL survive, resulting in varying experiences each time you boot up this new turn-based strategy title.

For more on Into the Breach, read Edmond Tran's review, in which he lauds the game's tactical systems for making you feel "completely in control."

Xbox One X Backwards Compatibility Feature Expands With A New Option

By Chris Pereira on Feb 28, 2018 05:09 am

Xbox One X enhancements are most often discussed in regards to Xbox One games, but a select number of Xbox 360 games also receive significant improvements when played on the high-end console. Several more 360 games have now received Xbox One X enhancements, and Microsoft has introduced an optional feature to let you disable that visual boost.

In terms of the new games, Crackdown, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Fable Anniversary, and Forza Horizon all now boast enhancements when played on X. This includes running at higher resolutions, improved textures and antialiasing, and higher framerates. All of this is enabled by default, allowing you to get what should be the most ideal experience possible.

However, whether you find that you're unsatisfied with the results or simply want to see what a game is like when played on a standard Xbox One or Xbox One S, you can now disable them. A new feature has been rolled out that is accessible by bringing up the Xbox 360 guide (done by pressing the Menu and View buttons), going to Settings, and selecting Xbox One X Settings. Here you'll find two options: Graphics, which is the existing mode that improves visuals, and Performance, which favors framerate and should be comparable to what's playable on a non-X Xbox One system.

Crackdown, one of the four Xbox 360 games to now have X enhancements, was just added to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list. It's been a relatively slow period for new additions, and it's been some time since any original Xbox games were included. We knew to expect those less frequently, but another batch should be coming this spring.

For a full list of Xbox 360 games with Xbox One X enhancements, check out the list below. We've also got a complete roundup of all the Xbox One backwards compatibility games.

Backwards Compatible Xbox 360 Games With Xbox One X Enhancements

  • Assassin's Creed
  • Crackdown
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
  • Fable Anniversary
  • Fallout 3
  • Forza Horizon
  • Gears of War 3
  • Halo 3
  • Mirror's Edge
  • Skate 3
  • The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
