New Beyond Good And Evil 2 Gameplay Footage Shown Off

By Anonymous on May 04, 2018 12:08 am

Ubisoft has provided fans with another look at Beyond Good & Evil 2. During a special "Space Monkey Report" livestream, the developers shared more details about the game's world and showcased some new--albeit brief--gameplay footage.

Unlike the first title, Beyond Good & Evil 2 places players in the role of their own custom space pirate, who can be any race, gender, or even species--be it a human or animal hybrid. As a pirate, players will be able to navigate from planet to planet in a ship and can freely drop out at any moment to fly around in a jetpack or board enemy ships.

The gameplay clip, which you can watch above, provides our first look at Beyond Good & Evil 2's combat system. Like other aspects of the game, combat is flexible and varied. Players can choose to engage enemies in aerial dogfights or hop out of their ship and battle them on foot using a staff. Ubisoft also offers a brief look at how players will be able to keep track of their friends when playing together online.

In addition to the gameplay, Ubisoft shared some new tidbits about the game's relation to the first title. As the studio previously revealed, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is a prequel to the original. The game takes place shortly after Jade--the protagonist of the first Beyond Good & Evil--was born and is set in System 3, one of the star systems humanity traveled to after leaving Earth to build a new civilization. Ubisoft also revealed that the camera mechanic from the first game returns in the form of a spyglass, which lets players take pictures, scan the environment, and more.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still early in development, but Ubisoft teases that it will showcase more of the title at E3 2018 next month. The game was first formally unveiled during the publisher's press conference at last year's expo, where we had a chance to take an early look at it and felt that it was ambitious but not what we had imagined. Ubisoft hasn't yet announced a release date for Beyond Good & Evil 2, but you can sign up to participate in the Space Monkey Program at the official website.

New Overwatch Update Out Now, Making Major Hanzo Changes; Patch Notes Released

By Anonymous on May 04, 2018 12:05 am

A new Overwatch update is out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and it presents some significant changes for the game. Blizzard has not just introduced the new map, Rialto, but it's also released significant balance updates for several character--with the biggest of the bunch being the long-awaited revamp of Hanzo.

Blizzard has been working on an update for Hanzo for some time. As detailed in the full patch notes, this finally implements the changes that have been tested on the PTR recently. He loses his Scatter Arrow ability, which has long been a frustrating component of his kit for enemies. In its place, he gets Storm Arrows, which lets him rapidly fire as many as six arrows. Each of these does less damage than a standard arrow, but they're each fired at max power.

Another new ability for Hanzo is Lunge. By pressing jump while he's in mid-air, he's able to leap horizontally. Additionally, his default attack gets a tweak, with his arrows moving more quickly. Sonic Arrow, which is used to highlight the location of enemies near its landing spot, has been adjusted to be used more often but last for a shorter duration. Its cooldown is now 12 seconds (down from 20), its duration is six seconds (down from 10), and its radius is seven meters (down from 10).

"The goal of these Hanzo changes is to allow him to have new options and maintain his high damage output, while removing the frustration of fighting against the old Scatter Arrow," Blizzard explained. "Hanzo is now much more mobile with his new Lunge ability, and with the combination of the bow projectile speed increase and the new Storm Arrows ability he can now deal his high damage more consistently than ever before."

Other hero updates are less impactful but still noteworthy. The projectile size of Junkrat's Frag Launcher is now smaller, and his RIP-Tire is slightly slower. Lucio's Wall Ride should generally be more reliable and now even lets him go around corners without leaving the wall. His Soundwave ability also doesn't consume ammo and can be activated while he's reloading.

Tracer's Pulse Bomb loses a chunk of its damage, a change which is meant to make it less deadly to tanks (while still allowing it to kill other characters). The hitbox size of Genji's deflect is now smaller, and the cone angle of Brigitte's Shield Bash has been reduced.

The remainder of the patch deals primarily with fixing some lingering bugs and adding some options for custom games. Those include the ability to disable Mercy's passive, Regeneration.

New Overwatch Map Rialto Is Now Live In New Update On PC, PS4, And Xbox One

By Anonymous on May 03, 2018 11:46 pm

Blizzard has released the latest update for Overwatch, and it brings with it a substantial piece of new content. After its run on the PTR, Blizzard has released the game's next map, Rialto, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

The new update comes just days after the launch of Competitive Play Season 10 in Overwatch. Despite this, it won't be available in Competitive Play until some unspecified later date. Blizzard says this is meant to "provide the community with plenty of time to learn how to play with the new map."

Provided you're playing in other modes, you can now dive into Rialto. Even if you don't dabble in the PTR, it might be familiar to you--a modified version of it was also used for the recent Retribution PvE mode. In its standard format, Rialto is an Escort map. It's set in Venice, Italy, albeit with some Overwatch twists--like the nefarious-looking secret chamber pictured in the images below.

Rialto comes as part of a broader update that also makes changes to a number of characters, as detailed in the patch notes. Most notably, it reworks Hanzo pretty significantly, implementing the changes seen on the PTR. His weapon has seen a tweak, while he gains two abilities and loses his old Scatter Arrow one, which was a contentious part of his kit.

Avengers: Infinity War Funko Pops Are A Little Too Spoilery

By Anonymous on May 03, 2018 11:22 pm

The latest batch of Pop vinyl figures from Funko's Avengers: Infinity War collection has arrived and if you haven't seen the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, they could spoil some major plot points. So consider this your last warning, if you somehow haven't seen Infinity War yet, stop reading now or risk being spoiled.

There are a few new Pops in the lineup that do not give away too much. Walmart is getting an exclusive Captain America, complete with beard and his Nomad-style costume from the film. There's also a Target exclusive featuring Spider-Man in his Iron Spider gear.

No Caption Provided
Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5

As for the more spoilery entries, let's start with the Vinyl two-pack. While it might not seem to give away everything in the movie, as it's simply Thanos and Spider-Man, the Mad Titan is wearing a fully-jeweled Infinity Gauntlet. That clearly lets everyone know that Thanos gets his hands on each of the Infinity Stones in the movie.

Additionally, there's an exclusive Pop figure only available at the Funko shop that's called the Stonekeeper. In actuality, it's the Red Skull--a character that surprised just about everyone who saw the film. After being dispatched of in Captain America: The First Avenger, it was revealed in the latest film that the villain has since watched over the Soul Stone.

Lastly, and this one is a bit weird, there's a Pop figure of something that doesn't happen in the movie. It might be a spoiler for Avengers 4. The six-inch toy is only available at GameStop and it sees Hulk bursting out of Iron Man's Hulkbuster armor.

As seen in the movie, Bruce Banner spends most of the Battle of Wakanda in piloting the Hulkbuster suit, unable to transform into the Hulk. In fact, that's how the movie ends. Is it possible that come Avengers 4, he'll finally go green and tear that suit to shreds?

There are some interesting choices being made with these particular Funko toys, but they all look like exciting additions to the Infinity War line. A release date has not been announced for them.

Madden Director Leaves EA, Suggests Series May Go In A "New Direction" Without Him

By Anonymous on May 03, 2018 11:03 pm

Rex Dickson, the creative director of EA's massive Madden NFL sports franchise for the past six years, has left the company. In a statement posted on Twitter, Dickson said his decision to leave EA was made after "discussions with other leaders on the team." Intriguingly, he suggested the Madden franchise may go in something of a "new direction" in the future.

"We collectively agreed this was the best path forward for everyone involved," he said. "This is as much for me and my family as it is about giving the team, the community, and the Madden franchise a chance for a new direction." He added, "I am filled with hope when I think about the passion of those who will pick up the flag and fight on for the future of the Madden franchise." There is no word as of yet regarding who will replace Dickson as Madden's creative director.

Also in his statement, Dickson stressed that "there is no drama or deeper story" regarding why he's leaving EA. He has been with EA for 12 years; he worked on Medal of Honor before joining the Madden team. Dickson says he has "nothing but gratitude for all the opportunities [EA] created for me," adding that EA is "truly an incredibly company to work for."

There is no word yet as to what Dickson will do in his post-EA life. He says he's not doing any interviews and will not respond to Twitter questions about his departure. Whenever he decides to announce what's next, we'll report back with all the information.

"Working on the EA Sports Madden NFL franchise was a lifelong dream realized," Dickson said. "It has truly been an honor."

Dickson worked on Madden 13-18, along with the unannounced Madden 19, according to his statement on Twitter. He also worked on NCAA 14, which was the last entry in EA's NCAA Football series before the franchise was put on hiatus.

Dickson leaves EA after the successful launch of Madden NFL 18. The game was praised for, among other things, its new story mode called Longshot that featured Oscar winning actor Mahershala Ali.

Here's The Star Wars / Arrested Development Video You've Been Waiting For

By Anonymous on May 03, 2018 10:59 pm

Solo: A Star Wars Story director Ron Howard is the narrator of the cult comedy Arrested Development. So when he started doing voiceover for Star Wars promos, everyone wanted him to narrate Star Wars in the style of Arrested Development. Now he has--and it is wonderful. The Star Wars Show writers came up with a script for what A New Hope would be like as an episode of Arrested Development, and they really nailed it.

The video is true to Arrested Development to a great degree, including the opening sequence and Howard's trademark pauses and quips. It is well and truly wonderful--have a watch in the video below.

Howard replaced directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, who were fired by Lucasfilm with less than a year to go before Solo is due in theatres. Howard, who won an Oscar for A Beautiful Mind, talks more about his involvement with such a major production in this episode of The Star Wars Show.

Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, plus Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke. It hits theaters on May 25, 2018. Ehrenreich recently let slip that his contract covers three appearances as Han, so we could be seeing more of the actor in the iconic role.

In related news, it was announced in February that Jungle Book director Jon Favreau is developing a new live-action Star Wars TV show. The series is set to premiere on Disney's streaming platform, which launches next year. This is in addition to the two new Star Wars movie series in the work, one from Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, the other overseen by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider Will Have Lara Face Harsh Consequences

By Anonymous on May 03, 2018 10:56 pm

While the recent games in the series focused on the exploits of a less experienced Lara Croft surviving the elements and battling legions of armed goons, Shadow of the Tomb Raider builds up moments of unease and self-reflection while bringing her arc to its natural conclusion. Set sometime after the events of Rise, Lara and her closest ally Jonah find themselves on the hunt for an ancient Mayan artifact in Central America. With prophecies of cataclysmic events centering around a mysterious box that private military corporation Trinity is desperate to get its hands on, Croft will come to realize that her recent adventures have some serious consequences, making her question whether she's the savior she believes herself to be.

By showing the real consequences of Lara's actions, developers Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics believe Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be a watershed moment in the life of the young adventurer, maturing her into the expert adventurer we know and love.

"From a narrative standpoint, we wanted to increase the drama", said narrative director Jason Dozois. "To do that, we not only needed an external conflict, like nature and combat and hazards, but also taking it to more personal conflicts with antagonists--and even her allies as well. That was the big thing we took away [from the previous games]. We had characters that people liked, like Jonah, and we wondered what he would be like if he evolved. What if he was someone who could really challenge her? Not everyone believed that in the beginning, but once we saw those performances [from the actors] we thought, 'Wow, this is a huge differentiator.' It's about taking the momentum of these characters [from the last two games] and seeing that payoff."

During our hands-on time, we got to play an early mission where Lara and Jonah explore a small town during a Day of the Dead celebration. The developers say Shadow of the Tomb Raider features some of the largest hub areas of the series and will lean into exploration more heavily, while also giving players more opportunities to interact with the characters that inhabit the world. While this leads to more moments for Lara to find tombs, collectables, enemy bases, and other points of interest, these moments of exploration also highlight Shadow's greater respect for the history and culture of the the areas the game is set in.

While there are several events and set-pieces that advance the plot--including a massive flood that forces you to contend with strong currents while helplessly watching civilians drown--progression is still largely tied to the open hub areas of the game. In these spaces, Croft will take part in side-quests, collect rare items and materials to upgrade your gear or buy new items, and explore lost puzzle-oriented tombs--all while learning more about the space she's exploring. In keeping with Shadow's darker story, Croft's journey in the time since Tomb Raider (2013) has also made her a far more cunning survivalist. In addition to her skills with pick-axes, bows, and firearms, she'll now be able to use more advanced stealth techniques. With thick vines scattered throughout the jungle, Croft will be able to hide in standing position in the dense foliage, allowing you to stealth-kill far more quickly.

While the dense jungle setting in South America was a fresh departure from the icy wilderness and ruins of the previous games, playing through Shadow of the Tomb Raider also brought a strong feeling of familiarity. Eidos Montreal is taking the lead this time round, and it says it has learnt from its time helping out on previous Tomb Raider games.

"I think on the gameplay side, we would say knowledge is the greatest treasure," said lead gameplay designer Heath Smith. "When you played the earlier games, you could see that she's still learning and still recovering things--she's seeking physical, material things to prove her points. But she matures, through the gameplay as well, [and] you saw hints of that in Rise [of the Tomb Raider] with the codex and challenge tombs. It's the knowledge that is her treasure. At the end of the day, what we're trying to do is create the conclusion to the trilogy, but still make it a standalone experience because this is the game where she becomes the tomb raider. The character she was always meant to be."

Shadow of the Tomb Raider focuses a lot on bringing back those familiar feelings of being a fully-realized explorer. But in a pleasant surprise, it tries to examine the inherent narcissism that comes from being the person to discover another country's treasures for themselves. Given that the core theme of the current trilogy is that of change, it's not that surprising to see that Lara Croft will go through her own growing pains during her toughest adventure yet. Eidos Montreal claims that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will challenge the idea of who Lara Croft, Tomb Raider, is.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer Breakdown: John Marston, Dutch's Gang, And Arthur Morgan

By Anonymous on May 03, 2018 10:56 pm

Red Dead

After nearly eight months since Red Dead Redemption 2's previous trailer, a new one has finally been revealed by Rockstar Games. This time around there's greater focus on the game's narrative, giving us more insight into the inner turmoil of new protagonist Arthur Morgan, as well as information about the Van der Linde gang.

As previously revealed, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the original RDR. In a press release, Rockstar wrote that the game tells the "story of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive."

The latest trailer makes it feel like the end of the road for outlaws, who seem to feel their time has come. The era of the Wild West was very much on its way out by the year 1899, which is the time period in which the game takes place. In addition, there were a multitude of narrative and mechanical elements teased about the game, along with the perhaps unsurprising confirmation that RDR protagonist John Marston--another member of the Van der Linde gang--will make an appearance. Here are 11 fascinating details that we caught from the latest Red Dead Redemption II trailer, including Marston and one aspect this game will apparently reveal about him.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to release on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One. However, as with the first game, Rockstar hasn't announced any plans for a PC version. Hopefully, as with Grand Theft Auto V, we'll eventually see the game also make its way to PC and Steam. As for the release date itself, it's been delayed in the past, but Rockstar parent company Take-Two has said it is "confident" that the game won't have another setback.

Did you spot any interesting details from the trailer that you don't see here? Let us know in the comments below. For more about what we want from the game, you can see our feature on the 11 things we want to see from the game.

Prequel Confirmed

In past trailers and promotional artwork, there were strong indications that Red Dead Redemption II was going to be a prequel. With this latest trailer, it turns out that's true; the game takes place in 1899, 12 years before the events of the first game. The game's full synopsis is as follows:

America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed. After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.

Probably Not Bonnie

It appears that a character from the last trailer that we suspected to be a young Bonnie MacFarlane may not actually be who we think she is. In fact, she appears to be a member of the Van der Linde gang or at least an ally of sorts. Whoever she is, we can at least confirm that she is a close confidante of protagonist Arthur Morgan.

Bill Williamson In All His Glory

Red Dead Redemption 2's second trailer showed a silhouette of a man we could only imagine was Bill Williamson, a member of the Van der Linde gang that you kill early on in the previous game. You can see Bill several times throughout the trailer wearing his trademark hat.

What Towns Look Like In-Game

There's a shot of a town where you can see normal inhabitants walking around and going about their business. Past trailers gave some indication of what town life would look like, but they mostly appeared cinematic and scripted. This glimpse in particular shows a more natural version of that, and likely what we can expect when we walk through a town in-game.

Potential Side Activities

Given this is an open-world game, there's going to be a fair number of side activities to participate in. One shot gave us a glimpse at what seems to be a carnival-esque show you can possibly attend, complete with a fire-breathing act. Another shot later on shows a fight club of sorts, which could hint at the inclusion of a more nuanced melee combat system.

A Shot From The Beginning

The game's official synopsis details that Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are on the run after a robbery goes wrong. The shot above could potentially be from that same robbery early on in the game's story. The synopsis states the robbery takes place in the town of Blackwater, a location that fans will recognize from the first game. However, there appears to be a streetcar in the background, which wasn't around in Blackwater in Red Dead Redemption 1. While it's possible tech like this could've just been added in, it does stir up questions of the sorts of locations you'll visit in the sequel. If not Blackwater, what town could this be? At the very least, the shot shows one of the most industrialized looking towns we've seen in the series thus far.

Another important detail to mention is that the robbery itself could be linked directly to the Blackwater Massacre, a bloody gunfight mentioned in the previous game. This is further supported by Red Dead Redemption 2's time period, which aligns with the date the massacre was said to take place.

"Brothers Make Mistakes"

It's clear that Arthur Morgan is a conflicted character. This is alluded to in the conversation he's having with a fellow gang member, who tells him that "brothers make mistakes." This could be a direct reference to whatever caused the bank robbery to go wrong early in the game. But more importantly, the line appears to be a potential root of the disillusionment that Dutch's gang starts to feel after witnessing his fall into madness. Arthur's struggle with his ideals and loyalty to the gang that raised him could be the major narrative element that drives a wedge between Dutch and his other gang members.

Government Men and a Possible Young Edgar Ross

As we can see from the shot above of who we can assume to be the primary antagonist of the game, the go-to look for the baddies you're fighting appear to be red vests and bowler hats. It should come as no surprise given how this fashion completely contrasts the rugged clothing of the game's protagonists. It's worth noting that the man to the left of the antagonist looks very much like a young Edgar Ross, the main antagonist of the first game.

A Familiar Face

Towards the end of the trailer, we see a tense standoff with what appears to be government agents. Arthur and the others watch from afar as they bring out a hostage--who turns out to be John Marston. Placed in a chokehold, we see the lead character of Red Dead Redemption in his younger days. Interestingly enough, we also see some fresh stitching on his face showing his familiar scars. So we may very well see how exactly he got them.

Dutch's Gang

For years we have often speculated upon the lineup of the Van der Linde gang and what members comprised its main roster. Many missions from the previous game gave us a general idea, but the new entry seems to give us a solid look at who was a part of the gang at its peak. So far, we know its key members include Dutch, Arthur Morgan, Bill Williamson, and John Marston. But from what we've seen in the trailer, there's a fair number more members that the game will likely touch upon.

A Younger, More Desperate Dutch

A line that stands out is when Dutch says: "Stay strong. Stay with me." It's clear that the game's plot is going to take the Van der Linde gang into some dire situations. But from this line comes a shot that indicates that the gang isn't just filled with outlaws, but other outsiders as well. If there's one thing that seems likely based on what we know about Dutch, it's that those who follow him are probably going to get killed. After all, Dutch seems to be at his most desperate during the events of this game, fighting to preserve his outlaw way of life while trying to achieve his dream of a "savage utopia." The events on display draw strong indications that this will be the game that shows how his desperation caused him to descend into madness, and how it disillusioned his closest members.

Fortnite Season 4 Challenges Are Hiding A Secret Reward For You To Discover

By Anonymous on May 03, 2018 10:47 pm

Fortnite Season 4 is officially underway, which means a new Battle Pass and accompanying weekly challenges are available. There are some new wrinkles for this season, but the challenges otherwise work as they have in the past. That said, there is a secret hiding in the Week 1 challenges that is worth tracking down if you're eager to level up and get your hands on the coveted Omega skin as quickly as possible.

Aside from the Battle Stars you earn, doing all seven Week 1 challenges completes the first leg of the Blockbuster challenges, netting you a loading screen called Quiet on the Set. This is part of your loadout, letting you customize what you see during the pre-match loading screen. Reddit user Bfor45 reports that the loading screen offers a very subtle hint about something hiding in the game world.

With moviemaking equipment added to the island in the new update, the image shows a scene being filmed near the prison. In the background, there's the very faint outline of a Battle Pass icon (you can see it below, above the tower just behind the alien's head). You can actually head to that location in-game during a match and find the icon (it's location is pointed out in the map below). Collect it, and it'll rank up your Battle Pass by one level. Take note, however, that you actually need to complete all Week 1 challenges for this to show up; you can't just head there without doing the legwork first. That also means you have to purchase the Season 4 Battle Pass to claim this.

Blockbuster challenges are one of two new categories of challenges for Season 4. Each Blockbuster involves completing all of the challenges in a given week, with each seemingly offering up a loading screen reward like the one mentioned above. Once you do all seven Blockbusters--which won't be possible until more sets of weekly challenges are available--you'll earn some unknown reward that looks as if it might be a special skin. At this point, we don't yet know if future Blockbuster rewards will also lead to secrets like this free Battle Pass tier.
