19 Reasons Why Fallout 4 is Already Making Us Glow Like Uranium

By Matthew Walden on Jun 15, 2015 03:28 am

The Impressive Sense of Scope

Fallout 4's creators have stated that "player freedom is the absolute number one goal," and from early looks at the game, it looks like they've accomplished that. When a character a emerges from Vault 111 to take in the desolated landscape of a ruined Boston, the sense of scale is awe-inspiring. (Photo by: Bethesda)

This Amazing Real Life Pip-Boy

The Fallout 4 Special Edition includes this incredible, real-life Pip-Boy replica. It's not only a to-scale re-creation, but also a housing for your phone. Your phone displays an app linked to the game's Pip-Boy. You can adjust your weapons and armor on the fly while completely immersing yourself in the apocalyptic future. (Photo by: Bethesda)

That Lovable Dog Companion

Scouring the wacky wasteland on your own is no fun. So Bethesda has provided a canine companion. Players can even give the cute little guy commands, like, "Retrieve a wrench from that radioactive dump." Fingers crossed the dog doesn't die in some dark, twisted tragedy. (Please don't die. Please don't die.) (Photo by: Bethesda)

The Dynamic Character Creation Options

Fallout 3 was a great game, but no matter how long gamers spent in its character creator, the on-screen avatar looked like a mutant cave dweller. Thankfully, it looks like Bethesda's souped up the character customization, with a cool interactive scene between a husband and a wife. Players can even end up with someone easy on the eyes this time around. (Photo by: Bethesda)

This Giant Freakin' Train on Fire

Plot details are still scarce for this new game, but whatever's happening with this flaming bullet train careening off its tracks in the latest trailer ... it's sure to be epic. (Photo by: Bethesda)

This Devious Weapon Design System

Fallout games can be a bit overwhelming, given the piles of useless junk lying around. But now, it looks like players can will finally be able to put all that stuff to great use. The new workbench allows for a gigantic variety of Frankenstein-esque weapon mashups we can't wait to wield.

The Glamorous Wardrobe

It wouldn't be a Fallout game without a fabulous closet of stunning evening wear to stroll around in. There's nothing better than slaying mutants while dressed to the nines.

That Snarky Fallout Humor

Fallout has a proud tradition of gallows humor, and it looks like Fallout 4 carries the torch forward into the future. It's a welcome relief when juxtaposed with the merciless and harsh climate.

The Grotesque Gore

We didn't explicitly see a "Bloody Mess" perk for Fallout 4 yet, but based on the glimpses of combat on display, it looks like the franchise's signature ultra-violence is back, along with the V.A.T.S. targeting system. Lock onto a limb and fire!

The Added Fun of Extreme Makeover: Wasteland Edition

Probably the coolest new feature in Fallout 4 is the home creation system. Players can rip apart buildings for scrap and use the material to build their own mansions out of rusted steel. With elaborate electrical grids and raider defense systems, we're likely looking at hours of post-apocalyptic home improvements.

The Radioactive Critters

There's nothing worse than getting ambushed by a hideous creature when taking a lovely stroll along a burned-out field. Between mutant brahmin and gigantic bloodbugs, players will have their hands full fending off Fallout's fiends.

The Fact That Codsworth Actually Knows Your Name

Ever-faithful robot servant Codsworth will actually pronounce a player's name audibly, thanks to his stored databank of more 1,000 popular names.

The Story That Begins in an Idyllic America

While Fallout 3 began in media res, Fallout 4 offers a glimpse of the world that was lost before a nuclear catastrophe. The main character begins with a happy family living in a quasi-futuristic suburb when disaster strikes. This unique setup suggests the story will have several direct ties to the past as it develops.

The Retro Mini Games

It looks like the in-game Pip-Boy has a host of new features. With a layered armor system and retro mini games, like the Donkey Kong inspired title above, it looks like Fallout 4 has made surfing the menus as fun as possible.

The Cool Custom Armor Creation

Donning power armor is a rite of passage in any Fallout game, and the newest installment has a range of new customizations, specific to each section of the character's body. Time to stomp the mole rats back to the stone age!

The Unique Boston Setting

We've already rampaged through the wreckages of Washington, D.C., and Vegas in past Fallout games. Now it's time for the cradle of liberty to get a mutated makeover. The concept art and still images from the post-nuclear Boston landscape look fascinating.

These Giant Flyable War Machines

In the grand tradition of anarchic open-world games, the vault refugee can hijack a helicopter and rain destruction upon enemy factions. An overhead view of the destitute world might just give us shivers.

The Cool Fallout Shelter Mobile Game

Bethesda clearly had fans in mind during its press conference: The company announced a free tie-in Fallout game for mobile. And it's available right now. A fun blend of sim and strategy games like XCOM and FTL, Fallout Shelter is a must-download to tide over fans until the full Fallout 4 releases on November 10th, 2015.

The Mod Scene is Coming to Xbox One

Bethesda announced at the Microsoft press conference that Fallout 4 on the Xbox One will have access to any of the player-created mods on the PC version of Fallout 4. Finally, console players won't be left out of the cool mod scene that has made drastic improvements to games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim!
