Massive PS4 Game Sale Now Live On The US PlayStation Store

By Chris Reed on Aug 18, 2018 12:13 am

A surprise sale has popped up on PSN, and it's one of the biggest ones we've seen. It's called Attack of the Blockbuster, and the sale more than lives up to the name. Dozens and dozens of the biggest PS4 games are discounted now, including tons of major PS4 exclusives. As often happens with these things, PlayStation Plus members get additional savings. There's no official word on when the sale will end, but a few of the games say they're going back to regular price August 28. In any case, get ready to put a hurting on your credit card.

Let's start with God of War, which is on sale for $40 (or $35 if you're a PS Plus member). That's a great deal, considering how recently this surefire Game of the Year contender came out. Speaking of major PS4 exclusives, you can grab Horizon: Zero Dawn: Complete Edition for just $16 ($12). And the massive JRPG Persona 5 is down to $35 ($30).

The whole Uncharted series is also on sale for cheap. You can pick up Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection for $10 ($8), Uncharted 4 for $12 ($10), and the standalone offshoot Uncharted: Lost Legacy for $15 ($12). The cinematic horror game Until Dawn is just $6 ($5), while Insomniac's pre-Spider-Man game Ratchet & Clank is down to $9 ($7).

It's not just Sony exclusives on sale, either. The Witcher 3: Complete Edition, a sprawling game you could spend hundreds of hours exploring, is down to $25 ($20). The first-person horror-fest Resident Evil 7 is on sale for $22.50 ($20). For bonus scares, you can play the whole game using PSVR.

Also on sale are a bunch of remastered classics from last console generation, including Batman: Return to Arkham, BioShock: The Collection, Metro Redux, all of which cost $20 or less with PS Plus.

Fortnite Challenge Location: Search Where Stone Heads Are Looking (Week 6, Season 5)

By Array on Aug 18, 2018 12:06 am

It's time for another round of Fortnite challenges, this time for Week 6 of Season 5. When you fire up the Battle Royale mode in Epic's wildly popular game on PS4, PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or mobile, you'll be greeted with a fresh selection of mini-quests to do so you can level up the Battle Pass and unlock some goodies. As with previous weeks, challenges are split up into two categories: Free and Battle Pass-exclusive. We've got all the information on the new challenges you need, and have also put together a guide to help you complete the harder ones--including how to search where the Stone Heads are looking.

The majority of the week's challenges can be accomplished by simply doing what comes natural to Fortnite players. In the free section and you'll need to deal 500 headshot damage to opponents, harvest 3,000 building resources with a pickaxe. The hardest challenge among the free ones, however, is the aforementioned task telling you to search where the Stone Heads are looking. To do this, you'll need to find all the Stone Heads on the island, of which there are seven. Once you've found them, you'll notice that they're all staring at one location: Salty Springs. Specifically, the small hill west of Salty Springs. Of course, now that you know exactly where they're looking, you don't have to actually seek out the Stone Heads and can instead head straight to the Battle Star. You can use the map images below for a better idea of where to go or watch us do the challenge in the video above.

The remaining challenges are for those that have a paid-for Battle Pass and involve searching for seven chests in Lonely Lodge, getting two kills with a Minigun or Light Machine Gun, and also taking out three opponents in Tilted Towers. The final challenge in the paid tier involves completing five timed trials. You'll get 6,000 XP for completing any four challenges, which shouldn't be too difficult.

  • Minigun or Light Machine Gun eliminations (2) -- 10 Battle Stars

In related news, Fortnite is now available on Android devices. However actually getting it is much harder than you might think, as it is not being distributed through the Google Play store. Check out our step-by-step guide on how to download Fortnite Android if you need a hand.

Epic Games released Fortnite update 5.21 on August 15 and introduced the Heavy Sniper Rifle, which is available as an Epic and Legendary version. In addition to the new weapon there are two new Limited Time Modes: Soaring 50s and Sniper Shootout.

Soaring 50s is a twist on the normal 50v50 mode that encourages players to be more mobile by allowing Gliders to be re-deployed. There's also a number of extra Bounce Pads around to get players airborne. Sniper Shootout on the other hand is a little more subdued, with players doing battle using sniper rifles. However, since players are using the Heavy Sniper Rifle, things will get a bit messy.

If you're still trying to complete challenges from previous weeks, take a look at the links below, where you'll find guides on all of Season 5's hardest challenges. Here's Why WWE's Ronda Rousey Wasn't Allowed To Do Hand-To-Hand Combat In Mile 22

By Chris E. Hayner on Aug 17, 2018 11:37 pm

When you find out that UFC Hall of Famer and current WWE superstar Ronda Rousey is going to be in an action movie, chances are you're expecting some intense fight scenes that will allow her to put her martial arts training to use. That's simply not the case in her new film, Mile 22, though.

While there is plenty of hand-to-hand combat on display in the film, most notably featuring The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan, director Peter Berg made the decision to keep all of Rousey's action firearm-based, rather than having her mix it up and throw hands in the movie. That's a stark change from something like her appearance in Furious 7, where she had an extensive fight scene with Michelle Rodriguez.

So why have Rousey keep her hands to herself? Because it's the last thing viewers would expect. "Pete purposely didn't have me do any hand-to-hand combat because he felt like it'd be too me," she tells GameSpot. "And he wanted people to be surprised to even see that it was me [in] the movie."

Instead of fight choreography, Rousey went to gun school. After all, her character Sam is a member of a highly-cover group of operatives tasked with extracting a very dangerous asset from a foreign nation. Being proficient with guns is an important piece of the puzzle.

No Caption Provided

"We had to learn the actual concepts of gun fighting," Rousey says. "And so we spent a whole week or so in an abandoned hotel with real guns and blanks."

It wasn't just learning how to shoot that prepared her for the film, though. "We had a Navy Seal, Army Ranger, Marine, and all kinds of consultants helping us to study for this role, so we would actually learn the concept of how to you clear a room," she explains. "One of the proper things to do was [make a] checklist of things to do, depending on how many people you have with you, and things like that. So when we got thrown into a situation, we would know the right things to do."

The end result is an intense action film that lets Rousey try new things as an actress. After all, while she may be keeping her fight choreography skills honed in WWE, there's not a lot of room for tactical gun use in the wrestling ring.

Mile 22 is in theaters on August 17. Rousey's next WWE match finds her facing Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women's Championship at SummerSlam. Make sure you can check out GameSpot's SummerSlam predictions.

Star Wars Spin-Off About Tatooine Was In Pre-Production, Production Designer Says

By Dan Auty on Aug 17, 2018 11:16 pm

While no Star Wars movie has been officially announced beyond next year's Episode IX, there have been plenty of rumors of potential spin-offs, including movies focusing on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett. However, following the commercial disappointment of Solo: A Star Wars Story earlier this year it was rumored that Lucasfilm had stopped development on further spin-off films. While the studio subsequently denied this, it has now been reported that work has indeed ended on a movie set on Tatooine.

The news comes via Neil Lamont, who worked as production designer on both Solo and Rogue One. In an interview with Cinemablend, Lamont revealed that he had started pre-production work on another spin-off, but this was now on pause. "We were just starting our work on another Star Wars spin-off," he said. "We were actually just making our mark on Tatooine--which would have been interesting-- and some other new galaxies. So hopefully, if that comes back, we'll get the chance to be able to do that further."

Lamont did not reveal what the movie was, but there are a couple of possibilities. The Obi-Wan movie has been rumored for sometime, with Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry attached and the possibility of Ewan McGregor returning to reprise his prequel trilogy role as Obi-Wan. However, in a recent interview, McGregor said that while he would love the play the character again, he knew nothing about the project.

In addition, there had been more recent rumors of a movie set within the Mos Eisley spaceport. In June, Making Star Wars reported that pre-production on a Mos Eisley film had been shut down, and the studio space reserved at London's Pinewood Studios had been given back.

While there are no Star Wars movies on the calendar beyond Episode IX, we know that there are two new movie series in the works. One is being developed by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, while the other is from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. In addition, Iron Man director Jon Favreau is working on a live-action Star Wars TV show, which will premiere on Disney's upcoming streaming platform.

In related news, Episode IX is now in production. The films is directed JJ Abrams, who also helmed 2015's The Force Awakens, and it hits theaters in December 2019. Earlier this month, the first image was released from the set. In addition, the first trailer for the upcoming animated show Star Wars: Resistance was released this week.

The "Madmen" Behind Call Of Duty's Zombies Tease Black Ops 4 With Lots Of Jokes

By Kallie Plagge on Aug 17, 2018 11:03 pm

The release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is fast approaching, and while it doesn't have a traditional campaign, it does have two Zombies storylines. At launch, the fan-favorite mode will have both the returning Aether story, which consists of the Blood of the Dead map, and the new Chaos story, which spans the Titanic-themed Voyage of Despair map and the Roman Gladiator-themed IX map.

We recently spoke to Treyarch's senior executive producer Jason Blundell and lead writer Craig Houston about Black Ops 4's take on Zombies, how writing for the mode works, and the most bizarre things that made it into the games. The two have been working together for 17 years and, as they put it, have a very particular brand of British and Scottish humor. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

No Caption Provided

Is there a connection between the Chaos storyline and the previous Zombies story?

Jason Blundell: I can absolutely confirm that the Chaos story is in no way connected to the Aether story.

Craig Houston: Other than sharing space.

JB: Well, they do share a connection there. They are on the same disc. Yep, that's true.

Are there Easter eggs in Blood of the Dead that fans can look forward to?

CH: Lots. I think the thing we started talking about was, over these last 10 years the Aether story involving Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai has been a very involved, time-traveling, multidimensional thing of craziness that has a beginning, middle, and end. But we left a lot of very deliberate gaps so that we could revisit, and Blood of the Dead is definitely one of those. It's nice to see the speculation in the community about exactly where it sits in our chronology. All will be revealed. But in terms of Easter eggs, it's gonna change people's understanding of some of the things we have seen and perceived so far.

JB: In the article, can you put a little star next to the bit where Craig says, "All will be revealed," and it says, "Jason says, 'Not really.'"

CH: Lots will be revealed.

JB: Yes. Some things will be revealed.

CH: A thing will be revealed.

JB: With Easter eggs, it's like the Easter Bunny just ran around Alcatraz throwing things around.

CH: Which is true of everything we're doing in Black Ops 4. We're trying to return to a lot of old-school Easter eggs in terms of audio logs and things like that, rather than just giving people impossible-to-solve ciphers so Jason can show off his brain.

JB: That's a very good point. Let me do the serious answer to that. [laughs] As we got to the end of Black Ops 3, especially toward the end of the Aether story, we had to make Easter eggs more and more difficult to kind of slow down or control the drip of information to the community. So we started to utilize a lot more ciphers, because that would slow it down. You have to do math problem solving and so forth. Going into the new stages with the Chaos story, we eventually took our mentality back to the beginning of Aether where it was more about pressing X on things, or reading things that we had on textures, or stuff we'd hide in the world. So those stories have different mentalities now. You'll see a lot more "traditional" ways of hiding stuff for the players. But the thing about the Blood of the Dead is, you know there's a couple of ciphers around for the fans who enjoy that part of it.

Do you guys, and does the team in general, feel pressure for Zombies and for making some really fantastic Zombies storylines considering that Black Ops 4 doesn't have a traditional campaign?

CH: The pressure's always been there, on Zombies, as it's grown. Because it took off so early on, as the little bonus map in World at War. You know, with every iteration, we just really tried to push it further and further, both gameplay-wise and narrative and everything. So, given that the love for that kind of feels natural, we're just doing it even more so this time.

A lot more writing goes into the Zombies stuff than in writing something like World at War.

[...] I think in narrative terms, as well, to be perfectly honest--a lot more writing goes into the Zombies stuff than in writing something like World at War. Because in a linear campaign, characters don't talk as much as they do in those kinds of modes as they do in Zombies, because Zombies is constantly evolving and constantly changing. You need lines dialogue for people who've gotten very good at the game and are getting headshots from 20 meters, and you need lines of dialogue for people like me and Jason [who] need help.

No Caption Provided

So the sheer volume of dialogue, which is not just on the player characters but is also in Easter eggs, that ends up being a pretty massive chunk of work. The world building and planning for the mythologies that we're exploring is really quite significant.

JB: And Craig and I both have that campaign background. In terms of the level of engagement, and the kind of narrative exploration, we actually scaled up our narrative team for the Zombie work.

CH: I've got a good one: Zombies is a world that you can live in, not just pass through. [laughs] You know what I mean. Campaigns are often a one-and-done thing.

JB: Yeah. Zombies is more of a state of mind than a methodology. Is that what you're saying, Craig?

CH: No, I wasn't.

JB: I know. Thank you.

Is the writers' room always this bantery?

CH: Well, whenever Jason and I get together, it is. But when I'm working with other writers I try to be a bit more serious and encourage them to write, not just make jokes.

JB: We're just putting on a show for you. We're actually very serious, boring individuals.

CH: In all fairness, though, I think we do have--well maybe it's a British thing, but our disagreements are usually solved through ridicule. Jason suggests an idea, and if I don't like it I go straight to ridicule. "Oh, you think that's a good idea, do you? Think that up in the shower, did you? Oh, it writes itself, doesn't it, Jason?"

What is the weirdest thing you thought up that still made it into Zombies?

CH: Thousands? I mean the fact that you've got a golden spork in Mob of the Dead.

The golden spork.
The golden spork.

JB: Oh yeah, the golden spork was good. The idea of a, what, 1960? When was the spork invented? I don't know.

CH: I don't know.

JB: Kind of a utilitarian utensil. The combination of a spoon and a fork. It just blows me away. Still to this day it seems like a greater achievement than the moon landing.

CH: Yeah, and there's so many. I don't think there's a bar where anything is too silly. I mean, Richtofen cut out Maxis's brain and put it in a drone. And then flew it into a dimensional portal. So if you can do that kind of thing...

JB: That's like a normal day at work.

JB: [pauses] I dunno. All of them, really. I always say, when it comes to Zombies development--not only the way we work with the team but also how we direct it as well--which is that it has to feel like the inmates are running the asylum. It's gotta feel like a mode where--and I say this [hoping for] forgiveness here with Activision on the line--like they've not got any control over us and it's a bunch of madmen making a mode. So I think that speaks to people in a certain way. And that's the spirit we keep on going, that kind of rock-and-roll attitude. That kind of, "Yeah we're not really going to listen to what the official advice should be for this, but this is the way it is."

Fortnite Challenge Bug: Where Are The Rift Portal Locations? (Season 5, Week 5)

By Tamoor Hussain on Aug 17, 2018 11:02 pm

Season 5, Week 5 of Fortnite: Battle Royale is here, and with it comes a few new challenges to complete. One of those will require you to run around the game world in search of Rift Portals to use, which is much easier said than done. Rifts played a key part in the lead up to Season 5, transforming large areas of Fortnite's island. Interacting with them teleports you high into the air above the island, allowing you to plummet down to the ground or use the elevation to glide around. [Update: A bug has caused Epic to remove Rifts from the game temporarily, effectively making this challenge impossible for now. There's no word on when they'll return.]

The difficult part of this challenge is actually finding these portals, as they appear randomly. Generally, you'll have to run around and just keep your eyes open, so we recommend just getting on with the other challenges and staying alert. However, there is one extra tell to look out for: when a rift opens, you'll hear a booming sound that serves as an audio cue to alert players nearby that one has opened, so keep your headphones on and turned up.

No Caption Provided

If you've never seen a rift before, they look like blue tears in the fabric of reality. They're tricky to see during the daytime, since they can blend into the brilliant blue sky, so it's worth constantly scanning the sky above you.

Although there's no specific location to find the rifts, anecdotally we've found we run into them most in the new areas that were added to the game at the start of Season 5. As a result, we recommend taking regular trips to the desert biome at the bottom of the map and hanging around Snobby Shores too. We've also had some luck finding them in the vicinity of Tomato Town and Risky Reels, so give those a shot if you're struggling.

If you're still trying to complete the other challenges for Fortnite Season 5, Week 5, we've put together a guide on how to follow the Snobby Shores Treasure Map, which is the other more time-consuming quest. Those still catching up on previous weeks' challenges can also take a look below, where you'll find a guide for the entire season thus far, along with some recent news surrounding Fortnite. Alternatively, you can head over to our dedicated Fortnite Season 5 challenge guide.

How To Download Fortnite Android Beta (It's More Complex Than You Might Think)

By Jordan Ramée on Aug 17, 2018 10:58 pm

Fortnite has launched on Android devices. The beta launched exclusively on Samsung devices last week, and now it's available on other Android platforms. However, you'll have to jump through a few hoops before you can jump from the battle bus.

Epic is using a special Fortnite Installer on the company's website, so you're not going to find what you're looking for in the Google Play Store like other mobile games. Searching for "Fortnite" or "Fortnite Battle Royale" won't get you anywhere. What type of Android device you're using will determine where and how you install the game.

Things are a bit easier for you if you've got a Samsung device. If you have a Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S8, S8 Plus, S9, S9 Plus, Note 8, Note 9, Tab S3, or Tab S4 then go to Game Launcher. From there, search for Fortnite and download the installer. That's it. You can also download the game straight from Epic's website.

It's with other Android devices where things get tricky. First, you'll need to check Epic's list of compatible devices. If your device is eligible, you can sign up on the Fortnite Android beta waiting list with your email. Eventually, you'll get to the front of the queue and get an email invitation to the beta. Log in with your Epic account to connect your Xbox Live, PSN, or PC Battle Pass progress.

After that, you'll need to wait again. Epic reports it should only take a few days for you to get your official invite to the Fortnite beta. When your invitation is registered, you'll be able to download the Fortnite Installer. Once that's on your device, you'll be able to download the Fortnite app to your phone or tablet.

When the download is done, wait for Fortnite to boot up and log into your Epic account. From there, you'll be able to start playing. You're advised to keep the Fortnite Installer even after you've started playing, as the installer is what keeps the game updated with new patches, not the actual game app.

If you'd rather avoid waiting for your invite to the beta, you can delay trying to install Fortnite until the game's official Android launch. The app still won't be available in the Google Play store when it does release. You'll either have to download the game through Samsung's Game Launcher or from Epic's website.

Fortnite is available on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.

New On Netflix In The US This Week: Movies, TV Shows, And Originals

By Jordan Ramée on Aug 17, 2018 10:34 pm

Netflix will be updated with more TV series and movies throughout this week. This Friday, eight new Netflix originals are being added to the streaming service, just in time to unwind for the weekend.

The 100 Season 5 is a notable addition that arrived on August 15. The fifth season continues The CW's post-apocalyptic science fiction drama of a group of teenaged criminals who are forced out of the space station they've lived in their entire lives to survive on Earth--a planet they've never known--to test whether the planet can once again support life. Seasons 1-4 are already on Netflix if you're looking to catch up on the show before the Season 6 premier in 2019.

Also on August 15, Netflix got the adorable comedy Adventures in Public School. This Canadian film tells the story of a socially awkward outcast who's been homeschooled by his overprotective mom his entire life. However, when he falls in love with a popular girl at the nearby state school, he decides to leave his sheltered life behind and enroll. The film is directed by Kyle Rideout, who's appeared as an actor in television series like DC's Legends of Tomorrow and Supernatural, and voiced characters in movies like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Warcraft.

Among the eight new Netflix Originals, you'll definitely want to keep your eye on Disenchantment. Created by Matt Groening--who previously made both The Simpsons and Futurama--the animated series is a medieval fantasy about a rebellious princess and her adventures with an elf and her personal demon.

The rest of the series and movies being added to Netflix this week are outlined below. If you missed out on what came to Netflix last week, or just want to look ahead, read our complete list of everything arriving on the streaming service in August.

Star Wars Resistance: First Trailer Delivers Space Action And Familiar Faces

By Dan Auty on Aug 17, 2018 09:54 pm

Star Wars Rebels finished its four season run back in March, but fans of animated adventures within the Star Wars universe don't have to wait for the next series. Star Wars: Resistance premieres on the Disney Channel in October and the first trailer has been released.

Resistance was created by Dave Filoni, who oversaw both Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and it looks like a similar mix of comedy, drama, and epic space action. The show focuses on a young pilot named Kazuda, who is recruited by the Resistance to take on a top-secret mission to infiltrate the First Order. Check the trailer out above.

As the trailer reveals, there are a couple of familiar faces alongside the new characters. Droid fan favorite BB-8 is in there, and there's an appearance from Poe Dameron from the recent Saga movies, voiced by Oscar Isaac. Star Wars: Resistance premieres at 10PM ET/PT on October 7.

When Resistance was first announced in April, Filoni spoke about his inspirations. "The idea for [the show] came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots," he said. "My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that's been a big influence on me. There's a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we've captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time."

In related news, The Clone Wars is also returning. The show seemingly ended with a short sixth season on Netflix in 2014, with many of the storylines incomplete. But at San Diego Comic Con last month, Disney announced that Season 7 is on the way. It will be overseen by Filoni once more, and is set to premiere on the studio's upcoming streaming platform, which launches next year.

Fortnite 5.21 Patch Notes: Update Brings New Heavy Sniper And More

By Tamoor Hussain on Aug 17, 2018 08:54 pm

Epic Games has released a new Fortnite update for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch, and mobile, bringing a new weapon and a pair of limited-time modes to Battle Royale, and freshening up the challenges for Save The World modes. Patch 5.21 arrived on August 15, and the LTMs should be available for at least a week.

The biggest addition to Battle Royale is that of the Heavy Sniper Rifle, the name of which is fairly self-explanatory. It deals serious damage, particularly to structures, but that comes at the expense of a long reload time. It's available in Epic and Legendary versions, and the bullets it fires drop less than those of other snipers.

Also new are two Limited Time Modes: Soaring 50s and Sniper Shootout. The former is described as a "twist" on the traditional 50v50 experience that places more of a focus on mobility by allowing Gliders to be re-deployed and also adding more Bounce Pads around the map. Sniper Shootout, meanwhile, is pretty much what the name suggests, with players doing battle using sniper rifles. One difference from the previous iteration is that the Heavy Sniper Rifle has taken the place of the Scoped Assault Rifle.

For Save the World there's a new set of weekly Horde Challenges and another hero joining. Take a look at the Fortnite update 5.21 patch notes below, courtesy of Epic Games. There's also a new batch of challenges available for Week 6, including one that has you search where the stone heads are looking and another that has you complete time trials.

Disney/Marvel Won't Re-Hire Director James Gunn For Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 - Report

By Eddie Makuch on Aug 17, 2018 08:47 pm

Fired Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn and Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn met recently to discuss the possibility Gunn coming back for Vol. 3, but Disney isn't budging. That's according to a report from Variety, which described the sit-down as only a "courtesy meeting."

Sources told Variety that the meeting was "civil and professional," but Horn refused to bring Gunn back for the third movie. Gunn and his talent agency reportedly tried hard to get him back in the director's chair, but it won't happen.

Marvel president Kevin Feige was traveling on Tuesday when the meeting was held, according to sources, so he wasn't able to join. Feige reportedly is in agreement with Disney's decision to not re-hire Gunn.

The report goes on to claim that Disney and Marvel will look for a new director in the time ahead, though whether or not the movie's production schedule gets interrupted remains to be seen. Vol. 3 is pegged to start production in early 2019. The movie is expected to still use Gunn's script, though there are a lot of moving pieces and Disney has made no official statement yet.

Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, has said he will ask to be released from his contract if Marvel makes Vol. 3 without Gunn's script.

Bautista, as well as Guardians castmates Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, and Michael Rooker all signed a letter of support for James Gunn in the wake of his firing. The statement doesn't directly call for Gunn to be re-hired, but the actors collectively said, "Each of us looks forward to working with our friend James again in the future. His story isn't over--not by a long shot."

"There is little due process in the court of public opinion. James is likely not the last good person to be put on trial," reads a line from the statement. "Given the growing political divide in this country, it's safe to say instances like this will continue, although we hope Americans from across the political spectrum can ease up on the character assassinations and stop weaponizing mob mentality."

Gunn was fired after some of his tweets from almost a decade ago surfaced in which he joked about rape and pedophilia.

This Steam Game Will Get Cheaper If Enough People Wishlist It

By Chris Reed on Aug 17, 2018 08:31 pm

Most of the time when we want a game to be cheaper, there's nothing we can do about it. With Bard's Tale IV: Barrow's Deep, you actually can do something. Developer InXile is tallying up how many people put the upcoming game on their GOG or Steam wishlists. If enough people wishlist the game, the price will come down.

It's part of the company's "Wishlist Initiative," which it's calling an "evolution in the relationship between an indie developer and its fanbase." At certain wishlist milestones, InXile is promising to add rewards to the game--kind of like Kickstarter rewards, except players don't have to pledge money. They only have to click a button.

No Caption Provided
Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7

Here's how the rewards break down according to total wishlist placements. At 100,000, the developers will add the Darkest Dungeon torch to the game. With 300,000 wishlist spots, the game's retail price drops from $39.95 /£29.99 to $34.95 / £27.99.

If 500,000 people add Bard's Tale IV to their wishlists, InXile will bring the price down to $29.95 / £24.99 and add a free DLC expansion called The Haernhold, "which finds characters adventuring in the dwarven realm of Kinestria."

Bard's Tale IV is scheduled to launch September 18. It's the sequel to a trilogy of first-person dungeon crawlers from the '80s and is the product of a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $1.5 million.

If you think you may be interested in this title, there's no reason not add it to your GOG or Steam wishlist. You'll help bring the price down and make it more likely to receive free DLC.

Spyro Remaster Trilogy Delayed For PS4 And Xbox One

By Eddie Makuch on Aug 17, 2018 08:22 pm

Spyro Reignited Trilogy will not make its release date. Activision announced today that the trilogy package will now arrive on November 13, which is about two months later than its previously announced September 21 launch. In a statement, developer Toys for Bob said the game needed "more love and care," so a delay was necessary.

"Everyone here at Toys for Bob is so proud to be reigniting the original Spyro trilogy after all these years," Toys for Bob co-studio head Paul Yan said in a blog post. "We're deeply committed to getting these games right, so we've decided to move the release date of Spyro Reignited Trilogy to November 13, 2018.

"I really hoped that you would be rescuing dragons and scorching Rhynocs sooner, but the Trilogy needs more love and care. In November when you're exploring the Dragon Realms, Avalar and the Forgotten Worlds, we know you'll agree the extra time was worth the wait."

The Reignited Trilogy comes with updated versions of Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. At Comic-Con in July, it was announced that Stewart Copeland, the original composer, is returning for the Trilogy. Copeland was also the drummer for The Police.

Fortnite's Android Beta Expanding To More Phones; Here's Every Model Supported

By Kevin Knezevic on Aug 17, 2018 08:12 pm

Epic's popular battle royale game, Fortnite, made its highly anticipated debut on Android devices last week--but only for some users. Thanks to a deal with Samsung, the title was initially only available on certain Samsung phones. That exclusivity period has now ended, and Epic has begun inviting other users to try out the Android version of Fortnite ahead of its full release on the platform.

Despite rolling out for more devices, the Android version of Fortnite still isn't widely available to download; rather, if you're hoping to play the battle royale game on your Android phone, you'll first need to sign up for an invitation on the Fortnite Android website. These are gradually being sent out via email to more and more players, so you may not receive an invitation right away if you've only recently signed up.

While you won't need a Samsung phone in order to play the mobile version of Fortnite, you will need a more recent Android device; Epic says the game will only support "high-end" handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S7, the Google Pixel 2, and the LG G6, among several others. You can find the full list of supported devices below and on Epic's website.

Unlike most other Android games, Fortnite won't be available from the Google Play store; rather, Epic will distribute it directly to players through its own website. The developer says this decision was made in part to circumvent the 30% "store tax" that would typically be applied to purchases made through Google Play.

Epic still hasn't announced when Fortnite will formally launch on Android, so if you're earger to play the battle royale game on your phone, your best bet for getting in would be to sign up for an invitation. In addition to consoles and PC, Fortnite recently launched on iOS devices this past spring, and it has been a huge success on that platform, reportedly crossing 100 million downloads.

Fortnite Android Supported Devices

  • Google: Pixel / Pixel XL, Pixel 2 / Pixel 2 XL
  • Asus: ROG Phone, Zenfone 4 Pro, 5Z, V
  • Essential: PH-1
  • Huawei: Honor 10, Honor Play, Mate 10 / Pro, Mate RS, Nova 3, P20 / Pro, V10

New Fortnite LTMs, Soaring 50s And Sniper Shootout, Now Available

By Kevin Knezevic on Aug 17, 2018 08:10 pm

Fortnite's 5.21 update is now available across all platforms, introducing yet another new weapon to the game--the Heavy Sniper--and making a handful of bug fixes to both Battle Royale and Save the World. On top of that, the patch marks the start of two new limited-time modes: Soaring 50s and the returning Sniper Shootout. [Update: Epic announced via Twitter that one of the new LTMs, Sniper Shootout, has been switched from solos to duos.]

Soaring 50s is the latest iteration of the popular 50v50 mode, albeit with an "extra emphasis on mobility." As before, players are divided into two teams of 50. Loot, ammo, and resource levels are the same as in previous versions of the mode, but this time, players will have a greater chance of coming across Launch Pads, Boost Pads, and Impulse Grenades. Players will also be able to redeploy their gliders when falling from more than 10 meters.

Sniper Shootout, meanwhile, plays largely the same as previous iterations of the mode. The only weapons players will happen upon here are sniper rifles, and the spawn rate of floor loot has been reduced by 50%. This time around, the Scoped Assault Rifle has been removed, with the newly added Heavy Sniper in its stead. You can read more about each new LTM in the patch notes below and on Epic's official website.

The aforementioned Heavy Sniper is the latest weapon introduced in Battle Royale. This particular gun can be found in Epic and Legendary variants from floor loot, chests, Vending Machines, and supply drops, and it deals heavy damage to structures. Epic has also resolved an issue with grenades that prevented their damage from being counted toward last week's grenade challenge.

Save the World mode, on the other hand, adds a new hero as part of the 5.21 update: Thora, who will be available from the Event Store beginning 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET on August 15. Epic has also introduced a new weekly Horde Challenge and resolved a handful of bugs in the mode.

Don't Get Rid Of Your 3DS Yet

By Kevin Knezevic on Aug 17, 2018 08:00 pm

3DS may have been overshadowed by the Switch since Nintendo's hybrid console released last year, but there are still a number of great titles in store for the dual-screen handheld, and another one has now joined that list. Atlus has announced it is bringing the final 3DS installment in the Etrian Odyssey series, Etrian Odyssey Nexus, to the West in early 2019.

Like previous entries in the franchise, Etrian Odyssey Nexus is a first-person dungeon crawler in which players use the system's touch screen to map out a winding labyrinth as they explore it. This installment takes players to the archipelago of Lemuria, where they must create a party to explore labyrinths and uncover the mysteries of the World Tree Yggdrasil.

Billed as the "definitive Etrian Odyssey experience," Nexus features the largest selection of characters and classes to date, with 19 different jobs drawn from throughout the series' history, plus the brand-new Hero class. The game also features four different difficulty settings that players can swap between, as well as an optional auto-mapping feature that automatically charts out dungeons as you explore.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4

Etrian Odyssey Nexus launches on February 5, 2019. The series has been consistently well-regarded since it originally debuted on DS in 2007. The latest installment, Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth, launched in 2017 and earned an 8/10 from GameSpot. In our Etrian Odyssey V review, critic Heidi Kemps wrote, "By focusing instead on small improvements to systems and ideas that already worked well, Etrian Odyssey 5 is a long and challenging RPG that sucks you in and leaves you determined to see what lies above."

Beyond Etrian Odyssey Nexus, 3DS owners still have remakes of Luigi's Mansion and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story to look forward to in the near future. Atlus also recently announced another Etrian Odyssey-style game, Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth, will launch in Japan this November, although the publisher has yet to confirm if that game will also make its way to the West as its predecessor did.

Jason Bourne Spin-Off TV Show Is Happening

By Dan Auty on Aug 17, 2018 06:53 pm

While the last two movies in the Bourne series were not as well received as the three that preceded it, a TV show based on the franchise is happening. Production of a pilot for a spin-off show named Treadstone was first reported back in April, and it has now been announced that we'll be getting a first season.

As reported by Variety, the USA Network has ordered a full Treadstone series. The show will focus on the fictional covert black ops program Operation Treadstone, which is used by the CIA to turn agents into a merciless assassins with no memories of their former lives.

Variety states that the first season will go into production in 2019 and will follow several of these agents across the world, as they are "awakened" and sent on deadly missions. In the movies, Matt Damon's Jason Bourne character was a member of this program who regained his memories and turned against the agency.

The Jason Bourne character first appeared in a series of novels written by Robert Ludlum. The success of the first adaptation, 2002's The Bourne Identity, led to two acclaimed sequels--The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). Damon and director Paul Greengrass weren't involved in the next movie, The Bourne Legacy (2012), but returned for 2016's Jason Bourne.

Metal Gear's Snake And Ocelot Provide An Update On The Movie

By Dan Auty on Aug 17, 2018 06:12 pm

A movie based on Konami's Metal Gear games has been in development for many years, and Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is currently attached to the project. Last month, Vogt-Roberts revealed that the script for the Metal Gear movie was finished, and now we have an update on the progress of the film.

Vogt-Roberts has been celebrating the games' 31st anniversary with a series of tweets over the past month, including lots of concept art. He finished with a final video featuring the voice of David Hayter, who has played the role of Solid Snake in the game for 20 years, plus another special guest--the villainous Ocelot. Check it out below:

As the video points out, the landscape for big budget movies has changed over the years, and these days it is driven by sequels, reboots, and big franchises. The comments about how potentially strange a Metal Gear movie might be match those made by Vogt-Roberts when he spoke to GameSpot last month.

"I think it's one of the best scripts I've ever read," he said. "It's one of the coolest, weirdest, most Kojima things. If I wasn't involved in it, I would still look at that script and [say], 'Holy shit.'"

The script has been co-written by Jurassic World's Derek Connelly, who also collaborated with Vogt-Roberts on Skull Island. In August last year, the director told GameSpot that they were re-working the script to make it more in line with what fans might expect.

"I was able to say [to producers at Sony], 'Let's really think about whether we're making the truest, most balls-to-the-wall Metal Gear version of this--the most Kojima version of this," he said. "And even if that means we make it for a little bit less money, let's make the version of this that's true to what it is, fully committed to what Kojima's voice is.'"

Kojima left Konami in 2015 after the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. He started his own studio and is now working on Death Stranding for PS4. The first trailer for the game was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

WWE Summerslam 2018: Match Card, Time, Kickoff Show, And Location

By Mat Elfring on Aug 17, 2018 05:01 pm

For the fourth year in a row, WWE's biggest PPV of the summer, Summerslam, returns to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. For those who can't attend, even though tickets are still available, you can watch the show from the comfort of your own home on the WWE Network. This gigantic show will have every major WWE championship on the line.

Summerslam's main card will start at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT. In the past couple of years, the bigger WWE events, like Summerslam and Wrestlemania, have had longer Kickoff Shows, which are two hours long, so expect this Kickoff to start at 5 PM ET / 2 PM PT. As of this writing, WWE's scheduling for August 19 is not available, so we don't know for sure.

If you're interested in watching the event, but don't have the WWE Network, you can sign up for one month for free and cancel at any time without any contractual obligations. That means you can watch Summerslam for free and cancel right afterwards. However, if you like the service, it'll cost you $10 a month to continue using it. The WWE Network is available on gaming consoles, iOS, Android, Roku, Smart TVs, and more.

As of this writing, there are 13 matches on the card, two of which are on the Kickoff Show. There shouldn't be any more added at this point.

Aside from Reigns taking on Lesnar for the Universal Championship for the umpteenth time, there are some continuations of solid storylines as well as new rivalries that have some legs. Jeff Hardy will get his rematch against Shinsuke Nakamura for the United States Championship, and hopefully, Hardy learns to wear a cup to protect himself from low blows. Additionally, Ronda Rousey will get a chance to win the Raw Women's Championship from Alexa Bliss. Hopefully, if Rousey ends up winning, she will be a fighting champion and not absent like a certain champion on the men's roster has been for the past couple of years. The card is already pretty filled out, and we're still a couple weeks away from the show.

Summerslam match card:

  • Rusev & Lana vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas & Zelina Vega [KICKOFF MATCH]
  • The B-Team vs. The Revival [KICKOFF MATCH] (For the Raw Tag Team Championship)
  • Cedric Alexander (c) vs. Drew Gulak (For the Cruiserweight Championship) [KICKOFF MATCH]
  • Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Jeff Hardy (For the United States Championship)
  • Carmella (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch (For the Smackdown Women's Championship)
  • Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz
  • Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Seth Rollins (For the Intercontinental Championship)
  • Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens
  • The Bludgeon Brothers (c) vs. The New Day (For the Smackdown Tag Team Championship)
  • Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin
  • Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Ronda Rousey (For the Raw Women's Championship)
  • AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe (For the WWE Championship)
  • Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns (For the Universal Championship)

Make sure to come back to GameSpot on Sunday, August 19 for live coverage of the event. Don't expect the demon from Hell, Kane, to be involved in this PPV in anyway though. He's currently transitioning into his new role as mayor.

$800 Shadow Of The Tomb Raider Statue Was Made By LOTR Studio

By Eddie Makuch on Aug 17, 2018 11:49 am

Weta Workshop, the props studio behind the Lord of the Rings franchise, has revealed a new Lara Croft figure based on a tense scene from Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The $800 USD statue is a 1:4 scale model made of polystone. It was designed by Weta's Daniel Falconer and was first shown off at San Diego Comic-Con back in July.

It shows Lara in the jungle as she's pursued by a jaguar. The richly detailed model shows Lara with her fighting tools like her knife, bow, pistol, and pickaxe. The tree the jaguar stands on is covered in moss, while the entire figure stands on a base that looks like stone. Only 750 of these are being made; you can pre-order now from Weta's website.

"I fondly recall staying up far too late playing the original Tomb Raider game into the small hours, so it was a delight to revisit Lara Croft two decades later to dream up pose ideas for this statue," Falconer said. "Lara is the fearless badass we all wish we were!"

The new Lara figure is part of Weta's new Shadow of the Tomb Raider collection. The other pieces include a prop replica of Lara's bow and arrow ($300 USD) made of "high impact urethane material" and a prop replica of the jade necklace ($100 USD) that Lara wears in the game. The statue ships in February 2019, while the necklace arrives in September alongside the game. The bow and arrow is due out at the end of 2018. All can be pre-ordered now.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider launches on September 14 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game completes the trilogy that started with 2013's Tomb Raider, but there could be more games to come after it. For more on Shadow of the Tomb Raider, check out GameSpot's new video feature above that looks into how Lara has changed.

Watch This Absurd And Gruesome Madden 19 Glitch

By Eddie Makuch on Aug 17, 2018 11:47 am

With Madden NFL 19 out now and the real NFL season starting soon, it's finally Madden Season--that also means it's Madden Glitch Season. As is the case pretty much every year, videos have emerged of various glitches with the latest Madden game. I experienced some in my time playing the game for review, but I never came across anything as serious and significant as the one found by Twitter user @MrGoldenSports (via Deadspin).

In a punt situation, the longsnapper for the San Francisco 49ers refuses to snap the ball, and the New England defense crushes him, believing it's a loose ball. This goes on for a while. And then something horrible happens to 49ers kicker Britton Colquitt. It's horrific to watch. Stick through to the end of the video to see the entire unfortunate situation play out.

Madden 19 is currently available on Xbox One and Playstation 4, as well as PC for the first time in a decade. We scored the game an 8/10--read our full Madden 19 review here.

PUBG Hits 100 Million Downloads On Mobile

By Eddie Makuch on Aug 17, 2018 11:44 am

PUBG is incredibly popular on PC and console, and the mobile version is crushing it as well. Developer PUBG Corp. and publisher Tencent announced that the mobile version has crossed 100 million downloads just four months after releasing in March. The number is actually much bigger than that, as it doesn't count downloads in China, Japan, and Korea.

According to Tencent and PUBG Corp., PUBG's mobile edition was the "most-download mobile game" in 100-plus countries for its launch week. The companies also announced that the game sees around 14 million daily active users, which is a massive figure.

"We will continue to set the bar for mobile gaming and look to deliver even more great contents to our players later this year," PUBG mobile boss Vincent Wang said in a statement.

Neither Tencent nor PUBG Corp. disclosed how much the game's mobile edition is bringing in from microtransactions. However, a report from SensorTower says the game was pulling in around $650,000 per day thanks in part to the launch of the new Royale Pass.

Fortnite's mobile edition is also a huge hit. It reportedly passed 100 million downloads in July, with $2 million in daily average revenue.

In other news, Fortnite's mobile edition recently launched a crossover promotion with Mission Impossible: Fallout that brings clothing, gear, and music from the movie to the game.

3 Million PlayStation VRs Sold, Which Means 4 Percent Of PS4 Owners Bought One

By Eddie Makuch on Aug 17, 2018 10:26 am

Sony's virtual reality headset, PlayStation VR, has reached a big new sales milestone. The device--which requires a PlayStation 4 console to use--has now sold more than 3 million units worldwide since its launch in October 2016.

In addition to 3 million in sales of the hardware, Sony said it has sold 21.9 million games and "experiences" for the device. "We'd like to thank all our fans for the amazing support, and we're thrilled that so many of our gamers have experienced the magic of VR and stepped into the captivating worlds that electrify our senses," PlayStation said in a statement.

As NPD's Mat Piscatella reminds us, 82 million PS4s have been sold worldwide, so that means less than 4 percent of PS4 owners picked up a PlayStation VR headset. Piscatella went on to say that he believe that "immersive VR" on console and PC is "highly likely to stay niche." He added, "Can be a nice little business, but that's about it [in my opinion]."

Sony also released a list of the Top 10 most-played PlayStation VR games. The VR version of Bethesda's acclaimed RPG Skyrim topped the chart, with PlayStation VR Worlds, Rec Room, Resident Evil 7, and The Playroom VR rounded out the top five. You can see the full list below.

What's more, Sony has also announced the release dates for two upcoming PlayStation VR games. The boxing game Creed: Rise to Glory will launch on September 25, while the sci-fi shooter Evasion will arrive on October 9. There are currently more than 340 PlayStation VG games and experiences available.

Top 10 Most-Played PlayStation VR Games:

  1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR
  2. PlayStation VR Worlds
  3. Rec Room
  4. Resident Evil 7 biohazard
  5. The Playroom VR
  6. Job Simulator
  7. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
  8. Batman: Arkham VR
  9. Farpoint
  10. Superhot VR

Fortnite Update 5.21 Patch Impressions: The Good And The Bad

By Eddie Makuch on Aug 17, 2018 08:21 am

The newest Fortnite patch, v5.21, launched this week on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. For Battle Royale, it adds two limited-time modes, Soaring 50s and Sniper Shootout, while a new weapon--the wall-piercing and super-deadly Heavy Sniper--joins the arsenal. You can read the full patch notes here. We've spent some time with the new update and here are our thoughts:

Soaring 50s LTM Is A Letdown:

A variant of the standard 50v50 mode, Soaring 50s gets its name from its focus on giving you more mobility options. The biggest part of this is that you can re-deploy your glider when you're anywhere higher than 10 meters in the air. You will also find a greater-than-normal number of launch pads, bounce pads, and impulse grenades to give you more opportunities to zoom through the air.

I played a handful of Soaring 50s matches and found the experience to be mostly the same as the standard 50v50. It's the same fast, frenetic, and frame rate chugging experience you've come to know and enjoy--or not. (I was playing on Xbox One X, but your mileage may vary). The "soaring" twist doesn't add much or alter how matches play out in our experience. That being said, it is fun to be able to jump off buildings or build ramps knowing you can escape safely by gliding to the ground. However, I kept asking myself why I would want to do that. Staying alive is critical in Fortnite, and the new mobility options give you more methods to escape. But another key element of Fortnite's team-based modes is staying close to teammates who can revive you. Soaring away in the heat of battle may let you escape quickly, but it can end up isolating you from the very teammates who could save you. The greater volume of launch pads and bounce pads makes the action more fast-paced and chaotic, but not any more fun in my experience. Soaring 50s is a more chaotic version of 50s, and if that's what you're after, it delivers. But it's not up my alley.

Sniper Shootout LTM Is Tense And Thrilling:

The other new LTM is Sniper Shootout, which only features sniper rifles. These include scoped rifles like the just-launched Heavy Sniper, as well as non-scoped long-range weapons like the Hunting Rifle. Snipers-only is a mainstay in the shooter genre, and Fortnite's version will feel immediately familiar. The anxiety-inducing crackle of sniper rifle fire is now all around you, and it's very stressful and tense. In terms of strategy, I found that taking the high ground was not always the best tactic. While it does allow you to scan far-away distances and get a jump on enemies, the top of a tower or a mountain leaves you exposed, and it's exactly where other players will expect you to be. I had the most success when I took aim from unexpected locations, like through low-level windows and behind rock structures. Positioning is important, but it all comes down to your aim and how cool you are under fire.

Sniper rifles pack a punch but won't knock you down in one shot (most of the time). So it's critically important to have health packs and shield buffs in your inventory. Thankfully, these can be found all over the map in Sniper Shootout, so there is no excuse for not healing.

If you make it to the final stages of a match, with 25 or fewer people left, you're likely to find yourself in 1v1 cat-and-mouse firefights. These are some of the most tense and thrilling battles Fortnite has to offer. It's also a great opportunity to steal a kill. If you come across two players going head-to-head, they likely won't see or hear you, and with all their efforts occupied in staving off the other player, they're very exposed. There is no shame in stealing kills this way. This is actually the second iteration of Sniper Shootout, and I'm glad Epic removed the scoped assault rifles from the previous version. This is easily one of the best Fortnite limited-time modes. In addition to just being a lot of fun, it's a great avenue to practice your sniping skills.

Heavy Sniper Packs A Punch:

The new weapon added in v5.21 is a big bruiser. The Heavy Sniper, which has Epic- and Legendary-level versions, will pop up in regular loot, chest, supply drops, and vending machines. As its name suggests, the Heavy Sniper packs a punch. It does 150+ damage per shot and 1050+ damage to structures, which makes it useful in weeding out enemies trying to hide. Also notable is that the Heavy Sniper bullets have less bullet drop than other sniper rifles. This sounds like a small change, but it makes the rifle very precise at long-range distances. This sets it apart from Fortnite's other sniper rifles, which require you to lead enemies or aim above them to account for bullet drop.

No Caption Provided

The Heavy Sniper is deadly, but with just one bullet in the chamber at a time and one of the longer reload times of all of Fortnite's sniper rifles, it mandates that you make the most out of every shot. The weapon is available across all of Fortnite's modes, but I recommend jumping into Sniper Shootout to put it to the test right away, as its drop rate in that mode is significantly higher than anywhere else. Overall, the Heavy Sniper is a welcome addition to Fortnite's weapon lineup that makes sniping an even more useful tactic.
