Rainbow Six Siege: New Grim Sky Operators Detailed

By Oscar Dayus on Aug 24, 2018 12:26 am

Rainbow Six Siege continues to expand, and it will soon do so once more with Operation Grim Sky. The new DLC drop adds two new Operators, Maverick and Clash, and reworks an old map. Now, Ubisoft has finally revealed all the details on the Operators.

Clash, as we suspected from previous teasers, carries a shield similar to the one used by Montagne. The shield is always fully extended when equipped and, although she cannot hold a gun while using her shield, it does have an added electricity shot capability that slows enemies while dealing a small amount of damage. Her ability makes her the first defender to carry a shield and a useful support Operator, allowing her to gather intel on enemy positions and distracting them while teammates pick them off.

The new attacker is named Maverick, and his unique tool is a blowtorch that can burn through reinforced walls silently. Ostensibly an alternative to Hibana and Thermite, he can open up objective rooms to allow greater lines of sight--and kill opportunities. However, it takes a while to burn larger holes, making it difficult to stay alive long enough to burn a sufficiently large hole to crawl through. When combined with smoke grenades and Glaz's thermal scope, however, Maverick's blowtorch can be lethal.

You can watch gameplay of both Operators in the video above. There's also footage of the buffed Consulate map--which has had some small tweaks applied such as new wall placements--and the completely reworked Hereford Base, which is almost unrecognizable from its previous form. Ubisoft has not yet confirmed an exact release date for the new season of content; it merely states Operation Grim Sky will come to the test server on August 20 and to live servers on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in September.

Fortnite: How To Search Where Stone Heads Are Looking Location (Week 6, Season 5 Challenges=)

By Array on Aug 24, 2018 12:25 am

It's time for another round of Fortnite Season 5 challenges in Battle Royale, this time for Week 6. Whether you're playing on PS4, PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or mobile, you'll be able to tackle a fresh selection of mini-quests to do so you can level up the Battle Pass and unlock some goodies. As with previous weeks, challenges are split up into two categories: Free and Battle Pass-exclusive. We've got all the information on the new challenges you need, and have also put together a guide to help you complete the harder ones--including how to search where the Stone Heads are looking.

The majority of the week's challenges can be accomplished by simply doing what comes natural to Fortnite players. In the free section and you'll need to deal 500 headshot damage to opponents, harvest 3,000 building resources with a pickaxe. The hardest challenge among the free ones, however, is the aforementioned task telling you to search where the Stone Heads are looking. To do this, you'll need to find all the Stone Heads on the island, of which there are seven. Once you've found them, you'll notice that they're all staring at one location: Salty Springs. Specifically, the small hill west of Salty Springs. Of course, now that you know exactly where they're looking, you don't have to actually seek out the Stone Heads and can instead head straight to the Battle Star. You can use the map images below for a better idea of where to go or watch us do the challenge in the video above.

The remaining challenges are for those that have a paid-for Battle Pass and involve searching for seven chests in Lonely Lodge, getting two kills with a Minigun or Light Machine Gun, and also taking out three opponents in Tilted Towers. The final challenge in the paid tier involves completing five timed trials. You'll get 6,000 XP for completing any four challenges, which shouldn't be too difficult.

In related news, Fortnite is now available on Android devices. However actually getting it is much harder than you might think, as it is not being distributed through the Google Play store. Check out our step-by-step guide on how to download Fortnite Android if you need a hand.

Epic Games released Fortnite update 5.21 on August 15 and introduced the Heavy Sniper Rifle, which is available as an Epic and Legendary version. In addition to the new weapon there are two new Limited Time Modes: Soaring 50s and Sniper Shootout.

Soaring 50s is a twist on the normal 50v50 mode that encourages players to be more mobile by allowing Gliders to be re-deployed. There's also a number of extra Bounce Pads around to get players airborne. Sniper Shootout on the other hand is a little more subdued, with players doing battle using sniper rifles. However, since players are using the Heavy Sniper Rifle, things will get a bit messy.

If you're still trying to complete challenges from previous weeks, take a look at the links below, where you'll find guides on all of Season 5's hardest challenges. You can also find recent news stories surrounding Fortnite below, if you need to get caught up on what's been happening with the game lately.

Fortnite's New Update Messed With Controller Sensitivity, And Now Epic Is Trying To Undo It

By Chris Pereira on Aug 24, 2018 12:19 am

Yet another new update for Fortnite has arrived. The 5.30 patch adds an interesting new item--the Rift-to-Go--along with a limited-time mode that has the potential to thoroughly shake up the action by changing how you win a match. But for players on consoles, the most significant change may have been buried more deeply in the patch notes--and it's one that's gone over poorly enough that Epic is working to undo it.

Located in the Gameplay area of the patch notes is the following line: "Tuned controller input and accelerations to allow for more fine tuning when aiming." Soon after the update went live, players began reporting issues related to controller sensitivity. Epic acknowledged the issue and released a hotfix to "revert the sensitivity for consoles to a state prior to the v5.30 update." However, there's more to the story than that, because not everything has been undone.

In a post on Reddit, Epic explained that while it's been able to reverse some of the changes through a hotfix--which, as the name suggests, can be rolled out extremely quickly without a big download--the rest will require a proper update. In other words, it's going to take some time.

"Based on player feedback we went a bit too far here," Epic explained. "We're going to revert this change to how it functioned prior to the update. As of now, we've reverted what we can via hotfixes but will need to release a client update to solve ... the rest. We'll get this out to you as soon as we're able to but don't currently have a time frame."

Epic also outlined something specifically impacting those playing on Xbox One, stating, "We also lowered the dead-zone used for aiming on Xbox One controllers, which we are leaving implemented in-game as we believe this is a healthy adjustment in the long term. In doing this we discovered and fixed a bug that slightly changed Aim Sensitivity for controllers. This means you may need to adjust your sensitivity to get that 'just right' feeling back, but you'll no longer experience the change in aim acceleration."

For a competitive shooter like Fortnite where aiming is key, messing with things like sensitivity and acceleration can be a big deal. Here's hoping Epic is able to straighten it out quickly.

Pokemon: Free Legendaries For September 2018 Revealed, Here's How To Get Them

By Kevin Knezevic on Aug 24, 2018 12:18 am

A new month is nearly upon us, and The Pokemon Company is continuing its Year of Legendary Pokemon campaign with another pair of free Legendaries for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. During September, players will be able to claim one of the two Eon Pokemon from Ruby and Sapphire, Latios and Latias, but as usual, the way to get your hands on them will vary by region.

Once again, those who live in the US will need to go to a participating retailer to pick up a free download code for the Legendaries. This time, the code will be distributed at Best Buy stores around the country from September 2-29. Players in Europe and Australia, meanwhile, will be able to download the Legendaries directly from the Nintendo Network between September 1-23.

As usual, the Pokemon you receive will depend on which version you're playing. You can claim the Legendaries in any seventh-generation Pokemon game, but there's an added incentive to redeem them in the Ultra titles; not only will the Legendaries come at higher levels and know different moves, they'll be equipped with a Gold Bottle Cap, a rare item that can be exchanged to Hyper Train a Pokemon. You can see their movesets and other details below.

Pokemon Ultra Sun

  • Latias -- Level 100 (w/Gold Bottle Cap)
    • Mist Ball
    • Psychic
    • Draco Meteor
    • Tailwind

Pokemon Sun

  • Latias -- Level 60
    • Mist Ball
    • Dragon Pulse
    • Psycho Shift
    • Wish

Pokemon Ultra Moon

    • Dragon Breath

To get the Legendary, select Mystery Gift from the main menu and choose the option to receive your gift with a code/password. Enter the download code you picked up and the Pokemon will be downloaded into your game. (Players in Europe and Australia, meanwhile, will simply need to select the option to receive their gift via the internet.) Once those steps have been completed, you'll be able to pick your Legendary up from the deliveryman waiting inside any Pokemon Center around Alola.

In the meantime, you still have a little more time to claim August's free Legendary Pokemon, Groudon and Kyogre, if you still haven't done so. The Ruby and Sapphire cover monsters will be available from GameStop stores until August 26. You can see all of the other free Pokemon available right now in our roundup.

Fortnite's New Score Royale Mode Gives You A Much Different Objective

By Kevin Knezevic on Aug 24, 2018 12:18 am

Epic has rolled out a new update for Fortnite. This week's patch introduces new items and other changes to the battle royale game across PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch, and mobile, and it also marks the start of another new limited-time mode: Score Royale.

As its name suggests, the object of Score Royale isn't to be the last player or team remaining, but to be the first to achieve the designated high score. Throughout the match, you'll earn points by collecting coins, opening chests and other loot containers, consuming certain recovery items, and eliminating other players, and the first to surpass the target score will be the winner. You can see the score breakdown, courtesy of the Fortnite website, below.

  • Winning Score (Solo) -- 2000
  • Winning Score (Duos) -- 3000
  • Winning Score (Squads) -- 4500
  • Use an Apple/Mushroom -- 10
  • Open an Ammo Box -- 25
  • Open a Llama -- 50
  • Open a Supply Drop -- 100
  • Eliminate an Enemy -- 100
  • Open a Treasure Chest -- 50
  • Find a Bronze Coin -- 30
  • Find a Silver Coin -- 50
  • Find a Gold Coin -- 100

Additionally, the initial storm circles in Score Royale are larger and move more slowly than they do in a typical Battle Royale match, which Epic says gives players "more time to spread out and search for loot." However, later storms close in much more quickly, making the late-game an intense scramble to amass points.

On top of Score Royale, Fortnite's ongoing Playground mode has also been updated with more items. The sandbox-style mode now features "a couple dozen" more ATKs to pilot, additional ramps to jump off, and a few more Rifts interspersed among the map. You can read more details about each mode in Epic's patch notes.

Beyond the new LTM, update 5.30 added the recently teased Rift-to-Go to Battle Royale, which functions like a portable rift that you can activate to warp high into the air and skydive back down. The patch also made changes to controller sensitivity, although these have been poorly received by players and will be undone. Most importantly, the update added the ability to thank the bus driver, as a fan petition humorously requested.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey: A Fresh Look At Combat's Big Improvements

By Matt Espineli on Aug 24, 2018 12:03 am

Assassin's Creed Origins released in 2017 following a year off, when Ubisoft took time off to reassess the future of its flagship series. Beyond the obvious move to Egypt, Origins' most notable area of innovation was combat. Previously reliant on engaging enemies and playing out execution animations, Origins completely transformed the series' combat into a hitbox-based system emphasizing precise timing and tactical dodging. While this was a welcome shift that introduced more complexity to enemy encounters, it still had plenty of shortcomings. You could easily fall into using a single dominant strategy to win fights, and the relatively low skill ceiling meant that you ultimately had very little improvement to strive for.

Ubisoft Quebec's upcoming Assassin's Creed Odyssey seems to be attending to these issues, providing more tactical combat than its predecessor while making subtle adjustments that vastly improve the moment-to-moment thrills of engagement. This might not mean much if you're more inclined to play stealth or ranged. I've personally been more of a stealth player in past Assassin's Creed games, even in entries that didn't accommodate such a playstyle--I'm looking at you, Assassin's Creed III. But I was pleasantly surprised to find during my experiences playing Odyssey that its combat was one of the aspects I enjoyed the most. Here are four major changes I noted during a recent two-hour Gamescom 2018 preview session while playing one of Odyssey's late-game questlines.

No Shields, Just Dodges

The most welcome change to Odyssey's combat is the lack of a shield or guarding stance. No longer can you block enemy attacks or arrows--you dodge them instead. This alters the flow of combat, forcing you to pay close attention to enemy movements while also being mindful of the spacing between you and your opponent. This is the best part about Odyssey's take on Origins' combat, as it elevates your active investment in a fight. It was easy to become idle in Origins, often turtling up against enemies with a shield, charging up a strong attack to knock them down, and then wailing on them. You need to be fully aware in Odyssey, unleashing measured bursts of attacks and dodging before getting hit by an enemy follow-up.

You may not come equipped with a shield of your own, but your opponents do! There's a power imbalance you feel every time you square up against a group of shielded enemies--a feeling I rarely got from fighting such enemies in Origins. Luckily, you're given a shield removal skill that can quickly put foes on even ground with you. It's an added layer of defense to enemies that seems superficial at first blush, but during my experiences with Odyssey, it contributed to the tension and reinforced the need to be alert.

A drastic, yet subtle new addition to movement is the roll as an action. In Origins, you could perform a roll after mashing the dodge button three times; it would be the third maneuver Bayek would perform after two step-dodges. However, it didn't serve much of a tactical purpose and was more of a cosmetic animation. In Odyssey, a roll is performed by holding the dodge button, and it covers more ground than the standard step-dodge. In every encounter, I had to distinguish which enemy attacks called for a roll, and which could be simply dodged with a quick step. It's a minute change but it made all the difference in elevating my senses during a battle.

You're Making Way More Decisions In Combat

Remedying the issue of Origins' barebones combat are a ton of special skills you can equip and activate on the fly in Odyssey. The most prominently featured skill in early Odyssey footage is the Spartan Kick, which allows you to launch foes away, potentially off cliffs or into shark-infested waters. But there are several other skills you can use--some offensive and others defensive. For example, one allows you to slow down time and move seven times faster than your opponents, something that comes in handy for doling out more damage or simply getting out of harm's way. Skills are triggered by holding the shoulder button and pressing the face button associated with the one equipped on your wheel. You can equip up to eight skills at once, and each takes up a specific number of points from your Adrenaline Meter--which is now split up into segments--upon use.

During high-level play, having so many skills to mix-and-match made for a satisfying dance of creatively linking together the best ones to inflict the highest damage possible. But it also demanded think about how I spend Adrenaline. While you can use it to trigger a powerful special attack that can easily dispatch a single foe, you might be better served triggering several crowd-control moves to hurt multiple foes or launch them off the battle arena instead. A canvas for players to use skills the way they want was exactly what Odyssey creative director Jonathan Dumont intended to be a part of the game's combat.

"We tried to have choice at the core of everything that we've added." said Dumont. "We were thinking about how it would be cool to mix and match skills...we looked at it more from a perspective of customization instead of trying to enforce a certain way to play the game or unlock things in a certain order."

Boss Fights Are More Difficult And Complex

If there's anything that Origins was completely lacking in, it was boss fights. Bosses were often just stronger versions of standard enemies, and if they did have something more interesting at play, the strategy to beat them was incredibly simplistic. Even at high-level play, Origins' boss fights were prolonged encounters that simply required dodging and walloping on a foe until you had enough Adrenaline to perform an Overpower move; rinse and repeat.

No Caption Provided
Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5

Odyssey seems to throw more variety into difficult boss encounters. Admittedly, this observation is purely based on my experiences fighting against Medusa (yes, that Medusa). But if what I experienced with that fight is indicative of the entire game, then I'm quite excited for what other formidable opponents Odyssey is going to throw me against--mythological creature or not.

Medusa actually had varying attack patterns and different stages as the fight progressed. She would try to slow me down with her petrifying stare and then spawn stone soldiers to gang up on me. But as the fight went on, went on, she'd assault me with petrifying lasers and try to attack me directly, all while more stone soldiers spawned in. The fight actually challenged my ability to dodge and use skills efficiently. It's exactly what you want a boss fight to be: a test of everything you've learned and executed upon using the game's various systems. You can watch the full battle against Medusa at the end of the footage above.

You Can Restat Anytime You Want

This doesn't pertain to combat directly, but if you decide there's another character build you'd like to pursue that would better accommodate your fighting style, you're free to completely restat your ability points any time at no cost to you. This is a tremendous addition that gives you the ability to experiment and spend your ability points on other skills that may not have fit your initial character build. Once again, this seems to align with what Dumont believes is Odyssey's emphasis on creativity and player choice.

No Caption Provided

"Invest the points where you want them but map them like you want them and create your own playstyle," commented Dumont when asked about player customization. "Because Assassin's Creed has been around for over 10 years now, we all play differently. Where some people just want to play stealth or ranged, some people want combat. So, we want to make sure that your play style that you want to bring in is a right playstyle for you. And the game allows you to play that way."

That creativity is welcomed by the freedom to change the way you play at any time. The build given to me during the preview was focused more on combat, but I was able to restat into a hybrid of both combat and stealth. It made the build more focused on chain-killing as many enemies as possible with the Rush Assassination skill before being seen, and then clearing out the rest with crowd-control and attack buff skills. The opportunity to branch out allowed me to get creative with my character on a whim. It was refreshing to have no penalty for doing so, as Origins forced you to commit to a build for a majority of its runtime.

A Step Forward For Combat

There's a higher sense of urgency and strategizing in Odyssey's combat. You're thinking more and you're constantly making split-second decisions on the types of skills you want to perform. Enemy groups are quicker to surround and overwhelm you than in Origins, so it's essential to move quickly and act aggressively. All of this already puts Odyssey's combat system far above Origins' in complexity and nuance, often motivating me to pursue enemies head-on more than I'm usually accustomed to.

As someone who has always relished in playing stealthily in every Assassin's Creed game, it's exciting to see improvements that make combat less mindless and more tactical. For the first time in the series' history, I'm struggling to settle on a playstyle--not because of lacking quality in one over the other, but simply out of finding each genuinely appealing. It honestly surprises me, and for a series I've been following since the beginning, I find that fantastic.

Fortnite 5.30 Update's New Patch Notes: Map Changes And More

By Kevin Knezevic on Aug 23, 2018 11:57 pm

Following a round of server maintenance, a new update is now available for Fortnite. Patch 5.30 has arrived on all platforms--PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile--and it introduces new items to both Battle Royale and Save the World modes, along with an assortment of bug fixes and other improvements.

On the Battle Royale side, Epic has introduced the previously teased Rift-to-Go. As its name suggests, this Epic rarity item is a portable rift that you can use to warp into the air and skydive back down. The rifts will last for 10 seconds once they've been activated, so other players will also have a brief window of time to jump into them.

The map has changed, as Risky Reels is now home to a fan film you can watch. More significantly, Tomato Town has been replaced by Tomato Temple, where you'll find a large pyramid in place of the old restaurant.

Epic has also tweaked a handful of other weapons in Battle Royale. Now, Clingers will only detonate once their timer is up, while the Double Barrel Shotgun's spread has been reduced by 15% when crouching. Epic has also slightly decreased the equip time of the Pump Shotgun and increased the max stack size of Impulse Grenades by one. Additionally, changes have been made to controller sensitivity that have proven problematic; Epic is now trying to roll them back. And, in a more delightful change, you can now thank the bus driver.

Beyond that, the latest update marks the start of a new limited-time mode called Score Royale. This mode has players scrambling to be the first to surpass the designated high score, and they'll earn points by collecting coins, acquiring loot, and eliminating other players. The storm circle at the start of the match is also larger than normal, while the late-game circles close in more rapidly.

On the Save the World side, Epic has added the Bundlebuss Assault Rifle to the Weekly Store. This powerful new gun with a large magazine will only be available from August 23-29. A new Horde Weekly Challenge is also now available to take on.

You can find the full patch notes for update 5.30 on the Fortnite website. This week's batch of challenges will arrive a little later than usual, rolling out on Friday, August 24, instead of on Thursday like they normally do. In the meantime, you can find guides for all the missions that are currently available in our complete Season 5 challenge guide.

Fortnite Map Changes: Tomato Temple Replaces Tomato Town In New Update

By Chris Pereira on Aug 23, 2018 11:53 pm

As players dig into the new Fortnite update, we're finding more that wasn't explicitly mentioned in the 5.30 patch notes. While some are silly--like the ability to thank the bus driver--another is pretty meaningful for the game, as the map has seen a big change to one of its named areas.

Ahead of the update's release, it seemed as if change was afoot for Tomato Town when part of its restaurant disappeared through a rift, similar to what what was happening to kick off Season 5. With the 5.30 update, Tomato Town has changed significantly enough to warrant a new name--it's now Tomato Temple.

Many of the same buildings, including the gas station, are still located there. But the central restaurant location has been replaced entirely by a large stone pyramid. You can both climb to the top and go inside, where you'll find a variety of tomatoes (and, seemingly, relics commemorating the old Tomato Town mascot).

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6

Elsewhere on the map, the screen at Risky Reels has been repaired completely and is now functioning. After showing some typical pre-movie visuals encouraging you to buy refreshments, it airs the winner of the Fortnite Blockbuster contest, which saw fans create and submit Fortnite movies. Janthony's "Prepare for Collision" came out on top, and you can see it airing in-game or in the video above (where you don't run the risk of being shot in the back while watching, as happened to me).

Perhaps to coincide with the update to Tomato Town, Epic has added the Tomatohead skin to the in-game store for a limited time. It sells for 1,500 V-Bucks and will soon rotate out, to be replaced by other new outfits. But for those who do get their hands on it (or already have it), a new style is now available for it that can be unlocked by completing newly added challenges, which are only available for those with the skin.

There's been a lot to take in from the new Fortnite update. For a complete look at what's new, check out our coverage through the links below.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Gameplay, Release Date, And What We Know

By Alessandro Fillari on Aug 23, 2018 11:53 pm

The follow-up to Rockstar Games' classic western game Red Dead Redemption is fast approaching. Set 12 years before the events of the original game, Red Dead Redemption 2 will explore an expansive region of the American wilderness, with Dutch Van der Linde's gang on the run from lawmen during the last years of the wild west. Experiencing Rockstar's take on the open-world western from a new perspective, you'll uncover the history of the Van Der Linde gang, which has a young John Marston in its thralls.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was surprisingly a no show at this year's E3, despite the game releasing in only a few months. Still, the recent trailers, screenshots, and info have given us plenty to talk about. Here's everything we know so far about Rockstar Games' upcoming open-world western.

No Caption Provided

How Can I Play RDR2?

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set for release on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One. There are also plans for a collector's edition of the game called the Special Edition. Priced at $80, the package includes a copy of the game along with special missions, weapons and a physical map of the game world for players to own. There are also two additional packs for Red Dead Redemption 2 for premium prices, The Ultimate Edition and The Collector's Box--both priced at $100. While The Ultimate Edition has all items from the special edition--including additional DLC items to acquire--The Collector's Box does not include any digital items. Instead, it offers special playing cards, artwork, a bandit's bandana, a physical map of the game world, and a collector's coin in the set.

Though the original Red Dead Redemption never found its way to the PC, there's been some rumors that its sequel might. A mention of Red Dead Redemption 2's appearance on PC found its way online, but it has since been scrubbed.

Where Is RDR2 Set, And Is It A Prequel?

Set 12 years before the main events of the original game, the prequel focuses on the outlaw life of the Van der Linde gang, led by Red Dead Redemption's main antagonists. After a robbery in Blackwater (one of the original game's major towns) goes bad--the gang finds themselves on the run. Dutch, his right-hand man Arthur Morgan, and several members of the gang have to contend with a life on-the-run while confrontations with rival gangs and the law make their situation grow more desperate.

Rockstar also released a description of the plot:

America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed. After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.

The First Reveal

Debuting on October 20, 2016, the first trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 was a bit of a mood piece that showcased many locales in the game, while also portraying the somber tone of the main narrative. In this trailer, we saw several towns and locales, many of which are teeming with life and activity--such as ranchers rustling up some cattle, huntsmen bringing back their haul, and a group of citizens hanging out in the general store.

Who Are We Playing As?

Though the central character of Red Dead Redemption, John Marston, plays some role in the story--the main protagonist of the prequel is Arthur Morgan. As Dutch's right-hand man and enforcer for the gang, he'll handle much of the daily duties of keeping the gang in-check--which includes a young and less-experienced John Marston. When it comes to keeping the gang and its community afloat, Morgan is quite handy with picking up various jobs to ensure everyone is well fed and in good spirits. But as the story progresses, he'll begin to question his own resolve for Dutch's way of life, and whether he still has a place in the gang.

The Second Trailer

On September 28, 2017, the second trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted. In the new footage, we got to see more of Arthur Morgan and how ruthless he can be while on the job. During some of the story cutscenes, Morgan will use coercion and physical threats to collect money and information, all for the "benefit" of the community. For more info on this particular trailer, check out our detailed breakdown.

Who's In Dutch's Gang?

In Red Dead Redemption 2, we'll see Dutch's gang and its key players in their prime. While the original game had John hunt down and kill the remaining members of the gang, we'll see many of the familiar faces in relatively happier times. From the most recent trailer, we see Dutch Van der Linde, Arthur Morgan, Bill Williamson, Javier Esquela, Sadie Adler, Charles Smith, Micah Bell, Hosea Matthews, and of course John Marston in the roster. We'll also interact with other characters who would have a key role in the gang and in the lives of both Arthur Morgan and John Marston.

The Third Trailer

In the new footage released on May 2, we saw a deeper look into the game's narrative and how the gang functions. Along with the familiar activities like hunting, heists, and side-quests with the region's citizens, rob trains and banks, and take in shows at theaters. For the most part, the trailer focuses on the many connections you'll have with the members of the gang, as well as how your choices will affect them. For more info on the third trailer, check out our detailed breakdown.

What's New In Red Dead Redemption 2?

While the sequel is largely in the same vein as its predecessor, focusing on exploration, hunting, shoot-outs, heists, and other side-activities where you'll interact with a number of unique characters--Red Dead Redemption 2 features a far more expansive world to dive into. We got our first good look at this world and how we'll be playing through in Read Dead Redemption 2's first gameplay trailer.

The honor system from the original game makes a return, but now with far more detailed tracking. Along with the average citizen, members of your community will react to how well or how poorly you treat them. As the lead enforcer, Morgan will have to handle a ton of responsibilities, such as resource gathering, procuring funds, and making sure everyone in the community is happy.

First Gameplay Trailer

On August 9, Rockstar unveiled Red Dead Redemption 2's first gameplay trailer. The new footage revealed that the core mechanics from the original game were still intact, but almost everything had received a facelift. Wildlife is smarter and lives within its own ecosystem. Arthur Morgan can interact with the people around him in ways John Marston never could. For more info on the first gameplay trailer, check out our detailed gameplay mechanics breakdown.

How Will Online Multiplayer Work?

Currently, Rockstar hasn't shared any info on how the online play will function. The original Red Dead Redemption featured online free-for-all and team deathmatch style gameplay in the open world, along with several co-op themed missions. While it's safe to assume that these sorts of missions will return, another long-lingering rumor is the appearance of a battle royale mode. In the coming months before its release, we should expect to hear more about what Red Dead Redemption II will have when it comes to online.

Nintendo's Newest Labo Kit Packs A Much More Compelling Game Than The Rest

By Kevin Knezevic on Aug 23, 2018 11:35 pm

For all the bewilderment that accompanied its initial announcement, Nintendo's DIY game/toy line, Labo, turned out to be a remarkable showpiece for Switch, using the console's hardware in some ingenious and mind-bending ways. Having already witnessed the technical wizardry behind the Variety and Robot Kits, Nintendo's third Labo pack, the Vehicle Kit, doesn't inspire the same initial wonder as its predecessors, but it does a much better job of integrating its constructions into a more traditional gaming experience.

As its name describes, the Labo Vehicle Kit features an assortment of projects all related to vehicles. There are three different types in its accompanying game (car, airplane, and submarine), and each of the peripherals you build is used to maneuver these around the world; the car, for instance, is controlled using the steering wheel Toy-Con, while the airplane is piloted with a flight stick. You also need to assemble two general accessories, a pedal and a "key", in addition to the vehicle-specific Toy-Cons in order to drive them in-game. The pedal rests on the floor while you play and causes you to accelerate when depressed with your foot, while the key houses the right Joy-Con and is inserted into each of the main Toy-Cons to switch between vehicles on the fly.

We only had a chance to assemble the key during our hands-on time with the Vehicle Kit, but just from a glance, the new Toy-Cons are generally more intricate than most of those found in the Variety Kit. The steering wheel is the most elaborate of the bunch, requiring between two and three hours to assemble by Nintendo's estimates. Despite their complexity, the building process is just as intuitive as before, with easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions for each one displayed on the Switch screen as you build it.

Once the Toy-Cons have been assembled, you're able to use them to play several different vehicle-based game modes. The biggest of these, both in terms of scale and the amount of content it contains, is Adventure mode, which has you explore a surprisingly large sandbox world made up of 10 distinct areas. You can freely drive or fly around the world as you please--provided you have enough gas in your tank--but the ultimate goal is to complete missions. Refueling at one of the gas stations scattered about the world will open up a list of tasks that are available in that area, which can range from finding hidden items to chauffeuring an NPC to a specific location; one of the missions we came across during our demo session involved driving a dog to its favorite tree because it needed to relieve itself. A second player can also join in at any time locally by inserting a key into one of the other Toy-Cons, piggybacking onto your vehicle, Mario Kart: Double Dash-style, to blast targets with a bazooka.

Outside of Adventure mode, we got to go hands-on with Battle mode, a head-to-head competition that pits two cars against each other. This can either be played solo against an AI opponent or with another player using a second steering wheel Toy-Con, and the objective is to pummel each other with spring-loaded fists and be the first to rack up three wins. Various power-ups also spawn during the match to give you a temporary advantage over the other player; one causes your vehicle to grow in size, allowing you to run your opponent over for an instant KO. The final mode on display at the demo event, Slot Cars, is a four-player race around winding tracks using only the Toy-Con pedal. Despite its simplicity, Slot Cars was a highlight; you need to cautiously press the pedal to ensure your car doesn't go careening off the track, making for some intense races.

There are still several other modes we didn't get to try, but based on what we've seen so far, the Vehicle Kit seems like it could be the strongest Labo pack to date, featuring a more fully fleshed out collection of game modes that offer more replayability than the previous two kits and utilize the Toy-Cons in more satisfying ways. The Labo Variety Kit launches for Nintendo Switch on September 14 for $70.

How It Feels Watching Crazy Rich Asians As An Asian Man

By Kevin Wong on Aug 23, 2018 11:22 pm

The new film Crazy Rich Asians stars an all-Asian cast, and it was number 1 at the box office in its opening weekend. It was directed by Jon Chu, an Asian American, and it was based off a novel written by Kevin Kwan, another Asian American. A sequel is already on the way.

I was hopeful going into this film--more hopeful than I would normally be. Asian Americans are having a cultural moment right now in Hollywood; we're getting more roles, more opportunities, and more of a say in how our stories are told. The last Asian American to have a seismic, ground-shifting effect on the American cultural landscape was Bruce Lee, and since his death, we've struggled to emerge from his shadow and retain a distinct Asian-ness to our identity, rather than subsuming it. But there have been strides, particularly in the last 20 years.

Sometimes, it comes in the form of parody: Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle wrestled with Asian stereotypes from the perspective of two young Asian American men. Other times, it comes in the form of mythbreaking; Better Luck Tomorrow portrayed four Asian Americans who used their academic reputation as cover for illegal hustling. Both films were stepping stones to what we have today. Comedies like Fresh off the Boat, stand up specials like Ali Wong's Baby Cobra, and films like upcoming thriller Searching depict Asian Americans with complexity. They neither deny Asian heritage nor patronizingly feed into it. True integration simply is.

And keeping with that, Crazy Rich Asians is an old school romantic comedy, so steeped in tropes that it includes not only a vengeful ex-girlfriend and a mid-film breakup, but also a dramatic airport denouement. The subtext here is both mundane and groundbreaking: that Asian Americans love the same as any other American, that we experience the same heart-melting and heartbreaking emotions. The scenes that would be ordinary in another film--two Asian couples enjoying street food in an open market, or two Asian men bonding over respective relationship problems--are so rare in American film as to be non-existent. But they are in this movie, unassumingly making a bold statement: We are not dispassionate people.

But this negative stereotype persists. In an article for Pacific Standard, Ravi Mangla cites a speed-dating study done at Columbia University, in which women--even Asian women--are less likely to respond favorably to Asian men. A study by OKCupid also concluded that Asian men consistently rank at the bottom of women's preferences. It's a recurring problem in the LGBTQ community as well.

Therapist Nicole Hsiang, in an interview with Brittany Wong of the Huffington Post, discussed the negative impact this can have on Asian men's psyches: "Dating rejection can be traumatic because it affirms these deep-seated beliefs about their masculinity and sexual attractiveness. Many Asian men who grew up in a mostly white environment have told me they think they are unattractive, comparing themselves to the white masculine ideal."

Crazy Rich Asians challenges this state of affairs, most notably in its treatment of Asian male sexuality. The most sensual, erotic scenes in the film involve Asian men; in an early shower scene, water glistens off Pierre Png's muscular, nude body, and the camera lingers on him, ogling the definition of his abs and stopping just short of an R-rating. Later scenes show male characters, especially lead Nick Young played by Henry Golding, in various states of undress, more so than any of the film's female characters. This was the point: to subvert audience expectations about Asian sexuality to an American audience--even an Asian American audience--that has been conditioned to ignore it. By celebrating Asian men's desirability, Chu forces us to confront it.

And that's not to say that every Asian man in this film is a rippling Adonis with seductive charm; that would have been a different type of condescending. There are other Asian men in this film who have average bodies and physiques and who are awkward or socially inept; Ken Jeong plays one of these characters in a show-stealing appearance. But it is not embarrassing. Why? Because the problem with American film is not that Asian misfits exist; the problem is when they are the only characters, and they carry the burden of representing an entire people.

In Crazy Rich Asians, these comedic men exist alongside other Asian men who are dramatic, sympathetic leads. Multiple Asian roles allow for complexity. And this is why true representation--rather than its close cousin, tokenism--matters.

Like many other Asian Americans, I left Crazy Rich Asians moved--that we are portrayed as people worthy of dignity, love, and mutual desire. I was ecstatic that our cultural eccentricities are criticized from within, for our own self-reflection, rather than from without, for others' amusement or validation.

This film reaffirms what we have always known, that Asian characters should never be played by non-Asian leads; we must continue to assert our place in our own stories. And this is a great step forward. The next "Bruce Lee" might not be an action hero; he just might be a romantic lead.

What's Coming To And Leaving Netflix In September 2018 (US): Movies, TV Shows, Series Originals

By Jordan Ramée on Aug 23, 2018 11:19 pm

Ah, September. That wonderful month when half of us begin our struggle of going back to school. At least Netflix has a bunch of new movies, TV shows, and original series for those weekend binge sessions. There's a lot of new goodies this month, although we're losing quite a few August add-ons as well.

The big addition in September is Black Panther, the Marvel superhero movie that took the world by storm this past February. If you happened to miss out on this celebration of African culture--which we described as "a top tier Marvel movie with all the humor, style, action, passion, and fun that the MCU has come to embody" in our Black Panther review--then now's your chance. Other film highlights coming in September are Groundhog Day, Scarface, Bruce Almighty, The Breakfast Club, Lilo & Stitch, The Emperor's New Groove, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Netflix exclusive Next Gen.

The list of new TV shows isn't as impressively large, but there are a few stellar options being added. Both Bojack Horseman and Stranger Things are getting new seasons. If you like staying appraised of everything going on in the MCU, Iron Fist is getting its second season.

If animation is your thing, new anime series Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan--about a rookie air force pilot who finds herself being chosen as the destined rider for an actual dragon--and animated series The Dragon Prince--which is created by the same folks behind Avatar: The Last Airbender--debut on Netflix this September.

Of the movies and TV shows being removed, Nolan's Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are the two noticeable standouts. If you want to watch either movie again, do so soon before they're gone for good.

Battlefield 5 Dev Says It's A "Shame" Battlefield 1 Didn't Initially Include Women

By Jordan Ramée on Aug 23, 2018 11:13 pm

DICE has received backlash since the announcement that women would be included in Battlefield 5. There are many who accuse the developer of pursuing an agenda, bending historical accuracy to jump on "the bandwagon" of gender and racial inclusivity. DICE executive producer Aleksander Grondal disagrees, even saying he wishes his team had initially included women in 2016's Battlefield 1.

"I mean, if we were getting on the bandwagon, I created Battlefield 1, and we could've 'jumped on the bandwagon' that time around," Grondal told GamesRadar+. DICE did eventually add female Russian soldiers to Battlefield 1 in the In The Name of the Tsar DLC, but women were not prominently featured in the multiplayer prior.

Grondal continued, "I think it's a shame we didn't [add women], because that perhaps would've been better for us. I don't think it's a bandwagon thing, I think it's about gamers wanting to express themselves in different ways. If you take a look at Battlefield historically, it's been about expressing yourself through gameplay, solving problems the way you want to, and these characters fall perfectly in line with that thinking."

At Gamescom 2018, DICE has unveiled two trailers for Battlefield 5 and made several announcements. The first trailer depicted the bloody Battle of Rotterdam and teased the first real glimpse at Battlefield 5's battle royale mode. It was followed a few days later by another trailer that details how you will customize your own company of soldiers, from classes to weapons. DICE also announced the dates for Battlefield 5's beta and Microsoft revealed a Battlefield-themed Xbox One X.

Battlefield 5 is scheduled to launch for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on October 19. Preordering the Deluxe Edition lets you play on October 16.

Gamescom 2018: New Teaser For Overwatch Lego Sets

By Jordan Ramée on Aug 23, 2018 11:08 pm

During Gamescom 2018, the Lego Group teased that an announcement concerning a collaboration between Overwatch and Lego is coming soon. The teaser depicted the outlines of six Lego figures, each stylized after one of Overwatch's heroes.

From left to right, the six figures appear to be Widowmaker, Reinhardt, Genji, Soldier: 76, Mercy, and McCree. Neither the Lego Group or Blizzard would comment further on what the two companies' collaboration might entail, but Blizzard did promise to announce new Overwatch content at Gamescom on Wednesday, August 22. So we might be finding out pretty soon. [Update: Blizzard did not address the new Lego partnership during the Overwatch presentation.]

This isn't Overwatch's first partnership with a toy company. Earlier this year, Hasbro announced that the company "signed a licensing agreement with Blizzard Entertainment to become the global master toy licensee for the Overwatch franchise."

During, Blizzard's Overwatch presentation the company unveiled a new animated short for D.Va, which does a good job of fleshing out the haughty MEKA pilot and teaching people the importance of asking for help. Other than Overwatch, Blizzard has panels and presentations planned for Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, World of Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo.

You can easily keep track of the company's full schedule via the "Blizzard at Gamescom 2018" app, but we've also outlined it below. Times are listed in GMT+2.

One Of Switch's Best Nindies, Battle Chef Brigade, Is Getting A Split-Screen Multiplayer Update

By Jordan Ramée on Aug 23, 2018 11:02 pm

Trinket Studios has announced a PS4 port for Battle Chef Brigade. Called Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe, the game comes with a few updates that will be free for whoever already owns the game on Nintendo Switch or PC.

The largest update included in Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe is one that fans have been requesting for a while: split-screen multiplayer. Two new modes, Survival and Free Play, are also being added. You'll be able to play as Ziggy--the undead chef who makes sarcastic quips--too, and you'll be able to create new cooking combination with nine new items. Deluxe also come with an illustration gallery to look through, new maps to play on, and accessibility improvements--such as a color-blind option.

Released in 2017, Battle Chef Brigade attracted a fierce following for managing to mix the mechanics of cooking, puzzle, and hack-and-slash games, and then packaging those features into a charming story about an immature girl growing up to become a young chef. You play as Mina, who wants to become her world's version of a knight, a battle chef. Battle chefs hunt down dangerous creatures and cook them into exquisite dishes for the people. To become one, Mina has to pass a series of cooking competitions that play out like a monstrous version of the TV series Chopped.

You take control of Mina during the competition and must cook dishes that contain certain ingredients and flavors. You'll have to hunt down the animals and plants you need, return to the kitchen, cook your food, and serve your dish in the time allowed. Between tournament rounds, Mina can speak to her fellow chefs, run errands, and sign up for part-time jobs to earn a paycheck. Money can be spent on different types of pots and pans, ingredients Mina can take with her into competitions, or combat upgrades to make hunting monsters easier.

Battle Chef Brigade can be bought right now on Switch or PC. The Deluxe version won't be available until August 28.

Gamescom 2018: DayZ Is Finally Coming To Xbox One

By Jordan Ramée on Aug 23, 2018 10:58 pm

During the Gamescom 2018 Inside Xbox presentation, it was announced DayZ is coming to Xbox One. The standalone version of the ARMA 2 mod rose in popularity on PC back in 2013 for providing a multiplayer zombie-survival experience that relied on fear of the human element, not the zombies.

A console version of the game was originally announced at Gamescom 2014 and it was for PS4. At E3 2015, an Xbox One release was also announced. Players have been waiting since then for a console version of DayZ. Much like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds--which just left Game Preview--DayZ will first come to Xbox One in early access before officially launching after additional patches and updates.

DayZ launches as a Game Preview on Xbox One on August 29. The PS4 version of the game is still planned, but it's coming at a later date.

In DayZ, your character wakes up on the edge of a beach with nothing but the clothes on their back, a road flare, and a rag. To survive, you must scavenge for food to satisfy your hunger, water to satiate your thirst, and weapons to keep the zombies and other players at bay. Dying in DayZ causes you to lose everything you own and reawaken on the beach again. To survive, you can choose to team up and share resources with others, such as medical supplies to deal with broken limbs or bleeding wounds, or hunt and kill anyone who crosses your path.

Saints Row: The Third Is Coming To Nintendo Switch

By Jordan Ramée on Aug 23, 2018 10:57 pm

During Gamescom 2018, Deep Silver announced that Saints Row: The Third is coming to Nintendo Switch. The publisher promises to reveal more information concerning the release at a later time.

Saints Row: The Third marks the the franchise's first real steps to differentiate itself from Grand Theft Auto. The first two Saints Row games were similar to GTA, albeit with goofier characters and stories. The Third doubled-down on the ridiculous, transforming its characters from an unorthodox street gang into an assortment of lovable psychopathic action heroes that satirized pop culture.

We loved the new direction. In our Saints Row: The Third review, Carolyn Petit gave the game an 8.5/10, writing, "Saints Row: The Third is buoyed to great heights by terrific mission design and by the remarkable assortment of vehicles and weapons it gives you with which to take over Steelport. Whether you're buying up property to increase your hourly income, cruising the city in your favorite vehicle to collect photo ops, drug packages, and sex dolls, or punching people to bits with those crazy apocafists, there's rarely a dull moment. Saints Row: The Third succeeds tremendously at delivering its unique brand of raunchy, outrageous fun. If you have an appetite for this particular kind of absurdity, you won't be disappointed."

Saints Row: The Third is currently available for Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and--via backwards compatibility--Xbox One. Its planned standalone DLC Enter the Dominatrix was scrapped and made into The Third's sequel, Saints Row IV, which is available for Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The Third's Gat, Olaf, Kenzie, and Pierce appear as Mayhem agents Gat, Yeti, Safeword, and Kingpin in Agents of Mayhem, a game that takes place in an alternate reality created after Gat reset the universe at the end of Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell. Gat Out of Hell is available for Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, and PC and you can play Agents of Mayhem on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Fallout 76: Perks, PvP, Release Date, And Everything We Know

By Array on Aug 23, 2018 10:55 pm

Only a couple years after Fallout 4's release, Bethesda surprised fans by officially announcing Fallout 76, the next entry in its beloved post-apocalyptic RPG franchise. The new game was revealed in a trailer after a series of teases, and Bethesda discussed it in more detail at E3 2018 and more recently at QuakeCon 2018. While there's still so much we do not yet know about Bethesda's upcoming game, the company has offered some clarity on Fallout 76's most curious features and additions to the Fallout formula.

To ensure you're kept up to date on everything there is to know about Fallout 76, we've compiled all the information we have on the game so far: the platforms it's on, its online functionality, its anti-griefing features, and where the game falls in the series' timeline.

What is Fallout 76?

Fallout 76 is a prequel to all of the previous Fallout games. Set in 2102, you play an inhabitant of Vault 76 who emerges from the shelter 25 years after the bombs fell on America. Your task is simple: explore what remains of post-apocalyptic America and rebuild civilization.

Longtime fans will likely recognize Vault 76; although it's not a place we've visited before, this isn't the series' first mention of it. Both Fallout 3 and 4 reference it and, according to the Fallout Wikia, this West Virginia-based vault was occupied by 500 of of America's best and brightest minds. Unlike the more grotesque experimental vaults in the Fallout universe, Vault 76 is a control vault intended to be opened 20 or so years after a nuclear war. But if the Vault was supposed to open 20 years after the bombs fell, why have 25 years gone by? The story likely has a few surprises in store.

Fallout 76 uses the Creation Engine, the same engine used to make Fallout 4, but it will purportedly feature much more graphical detail than its predecessor. Game director Todd Howard has said that Fallout 76 has new rendering and lighting technology, which allows for "16 times" the detail.

Who's Developing It?

Bethesda Game Studios, the Maryland-based developer responsible for the Elder Scrolls series and both Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, is at work on the game. In addition, Bethesda Game Studios Austin--formerly BattleCry Studios--assisted in fine-tuning the Creation Engine to support multiplayer functionality.

Is It An Online Survival Game?

Fallout 76 is a much different sort of game from its predecessors. It's "entirely online," but don't worry, you'll be able to play it solo too. According to Bethesda, the idea to take this approach to open-world survival came four years ago, when it started to work on building a multiplayer Fallout experience. Howard described the game's approach to survival as "softcore," which means death doesn't equal loss of progression.

You can form a party with up to three other players. You won't be able to manage your placement in servers when you login, as you'll automatically be inserted into a session with others upon booting up the game. Of course, you also have the option simply join alongside your friends and play together.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7Gallery image 8Gallery image 9Gallery image 10

Howard commented that Fallout 76 will have dedicated servers that will support the game "now and for years to come." At launch, there will only be public servers, but Bethesda plans to introduce private servers that will allow players to invite friends to play in order to prevent undesirable behavior.

Some classic mechanics from past games will be changing to accommodate the shift to online play. For example, V.A.T.S has been reconfigured to work in real time, while still allowing players to target specific enemy body parts. But this time around, it has been updated to be more of a tool that allows you to spot out dangers in the environment.

How Big Is The World?

According to Howard, Fallout 76's world is four times the size of Fallout 4. There are six different regions to explore, and each has its own unique style, risks, and rewards. Confirmed areas include the West Virginia State Capitol, The Greenbrier, Woodburn Circle, New River Gorge Bridge, and Camden Park. Contained within each area is a variety of new creatures to encounter, some of which are based on West Virginian folklore.

What Can You Do?

Like previous games, players will spend the majority of their time exploring and completing quests. However, Fallout 76 will not feature any human non-player characters, as all surviving humans will be controlled by active players. Instead, the game will use combination of robot NPCs, collectible recordings, and environmental storytelling in order to give players what they need to piece together quests and the story at large.

Given the game's premise of rebuilding the world, there will be base-building elements similar to Fallout 4. You will be able to set up a bases anywhere using an item called the Construction and Assembly Mobile Platform, or CAMP. These can be placed down in the world and allow you to construct an impromptu camp. At E3, we got to see the player laying down walls and decorating the base with pool tables, toilets, and other household objects. As the "mobile platform" part of the name implies, your CAMP can also be picked up and relocated, allowing you to move your base anywhere in the world.

While you can help build the world, you can also destroy it. If you have the necessary nuclear launch codes, it's actually possible to access a missile silo to fire a nuke at any point on the map. Doing so irradiates the chosen area, but it also allows for the opportunity to discover rare weapons, gear, and items. Be wary; nuking an area also causes more powerful enemies to show up, making it more difficult to survive. But don't be discouraged by this, the CAMP blueprint system makes it easy for players to quickly rebuild their homes, and if they're privy to an incoming threat, they can pack their things and move to a new location.

As an online experience, player choice is said to be incredibly important, going as far as giving players the freedom to choose who are the heroes and who are the villains. Early footage showcased multiple players engaging in combat and participating in friendly activities, which seems to indicate that players have the freedom to choose their paths in the world of Fallout 76.

How Does Character Creation And Progression Work?

You'll have similar character creation tools as Fallout 4. However, you're free to change your appearance at any point. In addition, you can also utilize the game's new photo mode during the creation process to better see how your character looks, as well as snap some shots you can share on social media.

The SPECIAL system returns and it's a bit different. Like previous games, SPECIAL encompasses the following stats: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, Luck. You're given one point to put into any of those stats every time you level up. The first thing you do when you emerge from the vault is pick a SPECIAL and then you pick a perk in that particular SPECIAL. Essentially, every SPECIAL is a pool of points for your perks.

But unlike previous games, perks are now cards you can equip and unlock as you rank up in a given SPECIAL; though, you're free to swap cards out at any time if you want to alter your build. Each SPECIAL characteristic you develop has a perk card cap of 15. These perk cards can be enhanced further from one to five points to increase their power.

You can obtain additional perk cards via Perk Card Packs (four random cards), which you earn every two levels initially (1-10), and then every 5 after that. You can also pick one perk card per level, usually from your SPECIAL choice. There are hundreds of Perks cards you can unlock, so naturally SPECIAL ranks cap out after a while (you gain a rank up in a SPECIAL each time you level up). At level 50, you'll stop increasing SPECIAL ranks, but you'll still get card packs.

How Does PvP Work?

When you shoot someone you do a little bit of damage, which can be equated to lightly slapping them in order to challenge them to a duel. In response to this, the other player can choose to ignore or engage. If they engage in a battle with you, they'll start to take full damage. The one who is killed in this consenting PvP match has the option to seek revenge. Doing so gives that person the opportunity to get double the rewards granted they're successful.

If you'd rather choose to ignore a PvP match, there's no way to escape being killed--despite the small damage dealt to you during the initiation phases. However, if you are killed by a player under these circumstances, that player becomes a Wanted Murderer and will receive no rewards from having killed you.

A Wanted Murderer is marked on the map as a red star and a bounty is placed on their head. Players looking to cash in on this bounty aren't visible on the Murderer's map. If the murderer is killed, the money from that bounty is taken out their stock.

In order to give players time to properly acclimate to how Fallout 76 plays, PvP won't be available to players until level five. And if you perish from any PvP encounter, the only thing you'll lose is the junk you've been collecting, which can be reclaimed after death if not already picked up by other players. You can always store junk in stashes found around the world, so as to safeguard a portion of your stock. Armor and weapons are retained in your inventory after death.

Any Voice Chat?

It's possible to chat with your teammates and even strangers you discover out in the world. It's area-based so your ability to hear other plays will vary. But if you want nothing to do with strangers, it's possible to mute their voices entirely.

When's the Beta?

Falout 76's beta will be available exclusively to those who preorder the game. Bethesda said that it will begin selecting participants from the pool of pre-orders in early October. The plan is to start small and expand over time. Xbox One owners have a slight leg up on the beta compared to other platforms. For more details, you can check out Bethesda's Fallout 76 FAQ for more details on how to redeem your code.

Release Date

Fallout 76 is being developed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and is currently scheduled to be released on November 14. Unfortunately, there's no word about a Nintendo Switch release, which didn't seem out of the question after the Skyrim re-release made it to that platform.

Gamescom 2018: Three New Indie Nintendo Switch Games Released From Out Of Nowhere

By Jordan Ramée on Aug 23, 2018 10:53 pm

With Gamescom 2018 ongoing, Nintendo took some time just prior to the start of the event to announce over a dozen new indie games for Switch. Of the games revealed, three were released almost immediately. Right now, you can download and play Bad North, Prison Architect: Nintendo Switch Edition, and Morphies Law.

Bad North is a viking-themed real time tactics roguelite. One of the cooler indie games we saw at E3 2018, Bad North is developed by Plausible Concept. Don't be fooled by its charming art style. This game is very difficult, and losing a commander in battle means they're gone for good. Bad North costs $15/£13.49. The title is coming to Xbox One and PS4 on August 28.

Prison Architect Nintendo Switch Edition is the Switch port of the prison-building simulator already on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, mobile, and PC. This version includes both the All Day and a Night and Psych Ward expansions, and the Escape Mode DLC will be available for purchase later this summer. In our Prison Architect review, we gave the game a 7/10. Prison Architect goes for $30/£25 on the Nintendo Eshop.

Morphies Law is a bizarre size-changing shooter. Shooting enemy players lets you to steal their size until they shrink into nothing. This means players in the lead will be large, easy-to-shoot targets while those who are falling behind can take advantage of their smaller size to weave between firefights. As A Fortnite Petition Requested, You Can Now Thank The Battle Bus Driver

By Chris Pereira on Aug 23, 2018 10:51 pm

A new Fortnite update has arrived, and with it, a variety of new content and changes--including some undesirable adjustments to controller aiming on consoles. While that latter point might be the most significant component of the patch right now (albeit one Epic is working to fix), I think it's clear what the truly important news from the release of the 5.30 update is.

While it isn't actually mentioned in the patch notes, players (including Flqmingg on Reddit) have discovered a hilarious addition: the ability to thank the battle bus driver who flies you over the island at the beginning of matches. This is done with a simple button press and displays a message in the lower-left corner of the screen that states "[Player name] has thanked the bus driver." As far as we can tell, this has no actual impact on the game, and it's not as if the bus driver is a real person playing the game.

No Caption Provided

This is another instance of Epic acknowledging what's going on in the community. Earlier this summer, a "petition" was published on Change.org calling for Epic to add just this feature. "Since I was just a boy I have always loved jumping out of the battle bus, but all this time I have felt something was missing," the petition, attributed to Kody Keddie, read. "And that thing is the ability to thank the driver of the battle bus, he or she is truly a great person and they provide us a great service, I think it is time we can truly appreciate [their] service, don't you agree?"

Although the petition has been removed, its sweet sentiment will now live on in-game--at least for as long as Epic keeps this ability in place.

As noted above, Epic has used updates to wink at Fortnite fans in the past. When theories suggested that Tilted Towers would be destroyed by the Season 4 meteor, it added signs from a party to the roof of one of its buildings. And more recently, it added a gravestone to mark the spot where a rescue attempt involving a golf cart when horribly awry.

What's New To Amazon Prime Video This Month? Movies And TV Shows In The US (September 2018)

By Mat Elfring on Aug 23, 2018 10:48 pm

Are you running out of things to watch on Amazon Prime? Well, September is almost here, and that means there is a whole slew of new TV shows, movies, and Prime Originals for you to binge in your free time. Here is what you have to look forward to in September.

There are five new Prime Original series debuting. The most notable is King Leer, which stars Anthony Hopkins playing the iconic titular role based on the work of William Shakespeare. Additionally, there is Six Dreams, a documentary series which follows a Spanish soccer league and three of its players: Atletico de Madrid's Saúl Ñíguez, Athletic Club Bilbao's Iñaki Williams, and Real Betis' Andrés Guardado. On the comedy side of things, Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph star in Forever, a series about a couple who have hit a slump after years of repetition.

For new movies coming to the service that you may have missed in theaters, September 29 marks the arrival of the horror movie Jigsaw, which is part of the gruesome Saw franchise. There is also Escape Plan 2--which wasn't in theaters--and while the movie's focus isn't on Sylvester Stallone as much as we'd thought it would be, it's still a solid action movie.

If you're looking something from the past, Amazon has a ton of movies you'll want to rewatch including Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, arriving on September 1. If you're getting ready a bit early for Halloween, there a few horror movies as well, including Pumpkinhead, Poltergeist II, the original The Amityville Horror, and the 1989 Adam Sandler movie Going Overboard, which may be the scariest of them all. Check out the complete list of everything coming to Amazon Prime in September below.

See Some 64-Player Military FPS Action In World War 3's First Gameplay Trailer

By Kevin Knezevic on Aug 23, 2018 10:01 pm

Europe's annual gaming expo, Gamescom 2018, is happening this week, and many developers and publishers began teasing new announcements and trailers ahead of the big event. The latest comes from developer The Farm 51, which has shared the first gameplay footage of its upcoming PC-exclusive first-person shooter, World War 3.

The trailer, which you can watch above, provides a look at the large-scale firefights players will be able to jump into in the game's Warzone mode. Despite being taken from a pre-alpha build, the footage still looks impressive, showcasing players engaging in intense shootouts and piloting tanks through the ruins of a war-torn city.

World War 3 is a 64-player military shooter that takes place in a modern setting based on real-world locations such as Berlin and Warsaw. In addition to the aforementioned Warzone, the game also boasts a Recon mode, which tasks small recon squads of players with securing "high-value targets in hostile territory."

The Farm 51 still hasn't announced a firm release date for World War 3 yet, but players will have an opportunity to try out the upcoming FPS soon. The developer will host closed technical tests for the game in the near future. Additional details on those will be provided at a later date. The game will also be on display at both Gamescom and PAX West, giving attendees a chance to go hands-on.

World War 3 launches in Steam Early Access this fall. While the game is currently only slated to arrive for PC, The Farm 51 says it will "seriously consider" also bringing the title to consoles if the PC version does well.

Top Gun 2 Adds Westworld And Mad Men Stars To Cast

By Dan Auty on Aug 23, 2018 09:46 pm

Production continues on Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the classic 1986 blockbuster Top Gun, in which Tom Cruise will play ace fighter pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell once more. Back in June, it was reported that Val Kilmer will reprise the role of Tom "Iceman" Kazansky, and now a couple more big names have been added to the cast.

As reported by Variety, Jon Hamm and Ed Harris will appear in Maverick. Hamm is best known for his role of Don Draper in Mad Men, as well as movies such as Bridesmaids and Baby Driver. Harris is one of the main stars of HBO's Westworld and has also recently appeared in the likes of Mother! and Geostorm. In addition, the movie will feature Miles Teller (Whiplash, The Fantastic Four) as the son of the original movie's Goose.

Top Gun: Maverick is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who previously worked with Cruise on the 2014 sci-fi movie Oblivion. This won't be the first time Kosinski has brought a popular '80s movie property back to the big screen either; he also directed the Tron sequel Tron Legacy in 2010.

In an interview with comingsoon.net last year, Kosinski spoke about what would set Top Gun: Maverick apart from the original movie. "The Navy is very different now than it was in 1986," he explained. "Back then, they hadn't been in any war for 15 or 20 years at that point. The tone of that movie and what those guys were doing was very different.

"Now, here in 2017, the Navy's been at war for 20 years. It's just a different world now, so you can't remake the first movie. It has to adapt. That being said, I certainly want to recreate the experience of that movie, which gives you a front-seat into the world of Naval aviation and what it's like to be in a fighter jet. The approach is going to be appropriate for the times we live in."

Top Gun was released in May 1986. It went on become the highest grossing film of that year, earning $353 million worldwide from a budget of just $15 million. Top Gun: Maverick hits theaters on July 12, 2019.

PlayStation Boss Was "Horrified" After First God Of War Play Session

By Patrick Faller on Aug 23, 2018 09:40 pm

God of War is easily one of the most popular and critically-acclaimed games of the past year, and while it has hit huge success post-release, it was not always so certain that the PS4 game would do the franchise justice. Speaking at Devcom 2018, the developer-focused event at Gamescom, creative director Cory Barlog got candid with the audience and told them about some of the challenges he and his team faced during development, including the time Shuhei Yoshida, the head of SIE Worldwide Studios, came in to play the game. It didn't go well.

During playtesting of the game, much of God of War was still looking rough, reports Gameindustry.biz. "Part of it was that we were building the engine and tools, as we were building the mechanics, as we were designing the mechanics, as we were then designing the levels," Barlog said. "All of those groups had to build everything at the same time." He added that many playtesters had intense reactions to the game at this point, accusing his team of "ruining" Kratos after seeing certain cinematics and gameplay.

As the God of War team was about to put out a demo of the game, with only six months to go until full release, Shuhei Yoshida came to the studio for a playthrough. "I mean, the framerate was terrible, everything just felt bad. He's playing, he's got scrunched up shoulders, head shaking a little bit," said Barlog.

"He kinda just shook his head and walked out the door...He never told me how he felt. In fact, he only told one of my friends, who he saw at a party. [Yoshida] said, 'Oh, you're working on God of War? I just gotta say, I played the game the other day. I was horrified.'" He added that this was a turning point in rallying his team to get the frame rate back up and work out some of God of War's core issues.

In the end, Yoshida returned to play the game a second time. "He played it again, and you can see the two different poses of Shu. Horrified is much more rigid. The second time, he was not horrified. It was super good. Very exciting," said Barlog. God of War released in April and received rave reviews, including GameSpot's review, which gave the game a 9/10. Despite its rocky development, it turned into a "spectacular action game with epic set pieces, big-budget production values, and hard-hitting combat," according to reviewer Peter Brown.

"What may surprise you is how mature its storytelling has become. Like Kratos, God of War recalls the past while acknowledging the need to improve. Everything new it does is for the better, and everything it holds onto benefits as a result," he added. "Kratos is no longer a predictable brute. God of War is no longer an old-fashioned action series. With this reboot, it confidently walks a new path that will hopefully lead to more exciting adventures to come."

In other God of War news, the game has just released an update and introduced the New Game Plus mode. It allows you to play through the game again, but with access to your unlocks, abilities, and weapons, meaning you'll have them all right from the start.

In the midst of Gamescom 2018, Blizzard has announced a new map for its competitive shooter, Overwatch. The map, called Busan, is a Control map themed around D.Va, and it's available to try right now on PC. A trailer for the map was shown during Korea Fanfest, where Blizzard held an event and shared some more information about it. You can get a look at it in the replay of our livestream above.

"Travel to Busan, South Korea and battle for control across three distinct locales within one map: Sanctuary, Downtown, and MEKA Base," reads the trailer's description. "Explore the serene setting of the Sanctuary, surrounded by an ancient temple, beautiful gardens, and historic architecture. Clash in the bustling metropolis of Downtown, where players will fight across a busy PC bang, flashy karaoke bar, and central light rail station (just watch out for the train).

"Contest for position in MEKA Base--home of South Korea's frontline defense against the gwishin omnic attacks: D.Va and the rest of the MEKA squad," it continues. "Teams must fight to hold each of the three stages to establish complete control of the city that refuses to surrender its way of life to any threat." Check out the trailer above.

The new map is available now on the Public Test Realm, letting anyone who owns a PC copy of the game try it out. To do so, you'll need to first download the PTR client from the Battle.net launcher.

Alongside news of the map, Blizzard released a new animated short featuring D.Va. During the show the Lego Group also teased that an announcement concerning a collaboration between Overwatch and Lego is coming soon. It showed the outlines of six Lego figures that are styled after various Overwatch heroes. During a recent interview, the developers behind Diablo 3 on Switch discussed working with Nintendo's console, saying Overwatch on Switch is feasible.

Battlefield 5 Character Customization Options Revealed In New Gamescom 2018 Trailer

By Chris Pereira on Aug 23, 2018 08:50 pm

New details continue to emerge about Battlefield V. With Gamescom 2018 underway, EA and DICE have shared news regarding Battlefield V's customization and progression systems, which center around what's known as The Company.

The Company is essentially your collection of soldiers and various customization options. You're able to establish a Company with each faction; at launch, that means one each for the British and German armies. We've heard previously about Combat Roles, which offer unique loadouts and abilities that act as specializations for the four major classes: Assault, Support, Recon, and Medic. You'll earn additional Combat Roles over time, and by completing certain types of missions and quests, you'll earn further weapons, gear, and vehicles.

All of that will impact gameplay, as you're earning and equipping actual items. But Battlefield V also allows you to customize the visual look of your characters "from top to bottom," and the weapons themselves also have different looks. The new trailer below offers a brief glimpse of the range of possibilities the game allows for, and you'll earn more options for your Company as you play. DICE insists that customization is a key aspect of the game and that it's working to ensure your choices are featured prominently, such as in the post-game Best Squad screen.

The Company will be available in some form during the upcoming open beta, which we recently learned kicks off in early September. Like the full game, which launches on October 19, that will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but those who pre-order or subscribe to EA/Origin Access will get in early.

Battlefield V is being featured prominently at Gamescom in Germany this week. Nvidia also used the game to showcase the capabilities of its new RTX video cards, which launch in September, just ahead of the game's release. Gamescom also brought word on new Xbox One bundles featuring Battlefield V, one of which is an Xbox One X with a special design.

Special Xbox One X Design Coming In Battlefield 5 Bundle Revealed At Gamescom 2018

By Chris Pereira on Aug 23, 2018 08:49 pm

Those in the market for an Xbox One will soon have some new options. Alongside a new Fallout 76 bundle, Microsoft's Gamescom 2018 edition of Inside Xbox has brought word on new bundles that package the system together with Battlefield V. Notably, these include an Xbox One X featuring a special design.

The Xbox One X Gold Rush bundle, as it's called, includes a 1 TB Xbox One X that sports a gradient, fading from gold on the left to black on the right. It also comes with a wireless gray controller, Battlefield V's Deluxe edition, Battlefield 1943 (the Xbox 360 game, which is backwards compatible on Xbox One), one month of EA Access, one month of Xbox Game Pass, and a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial. In the US, this will be priced at $499, the standard price of an Xbox One X on its own.

Battlefield V's Deluxe edition gets you early access to the full game as well as various bonuses. That includes five paratrooper outfits, more starter assignments, and 20 weekly airlifts, which each provide you with a customization item.
