We're giving away 5,000 Closed Beta Codes for SOS on PC. SOS is an online multiplayer survival game where 16 players face off in a 30-minute challenge to escape La Cuna Island.
The closed beta test takes place Monday, December 11th through Sunday, December 17th. Entry is open worldwide. You will receive an email with the code within 24 hours.
When you're trapped on an island with danger around every corner, you'll have to use anything at your disposal to survive. Outpost Games' upcoming battle royale game SOS takes this thinking to heart, but adds in some rather unorthodox twists that asks players--or "performers," as the developers say--to go out of their comfort zone. Taking part in a life-or-death game on a reality TV show, 16 performers, along with some dangerous infected creatures, have to fight to survive, and only a few will make it out alive. While there's plenty of guns and axes to find, the best weapons you'll use are your very own words.
Spending some time with a closed-alpha build of the game ahead of its closed-beta, we had the chance to talk with CEO of Outpost Games Wright Bagwell and creative director Ian Milham about their ambitious take on the now popular Battle Royale sub-genre--and what strange situations it'll force players into.
As a survival game, you'll have to manage your meager resources while contending with the ravenous infected and other survivors. The main goal is to find the one of four relics, signal for extraction, and then make it onto the helicopter. While this may sound simple, 16 players have the same goal, and with only a few seats on the helicopter, alliances can quickly shatter when the time for escape draws near.
What sets SOS apart from other online free-for-all games is the focus on the social aspect of online gaming. It requires a microphone to play, and your social skills and sense of showmanship will be put to the test, with each player having to present themselves in an interesting way to stand out. As a quasi-reality show--which includes live pre-match introductions--how you play the game (and your audience) will make or break your chances of success. Each game is broadcast live online via the social gaming platform Hero, with spectators voting on possible in-game events like supply drops or bombing runs and while also sending their favor towards particular performers.
Speaking with the CEO of Outpost Games, he spoke about their focus on putting you in the spotlight, and how the trends of livestreaming resulted in a convergence for their game.
"Up until now, there really haven't been many games that make people aware that they're being streamed," said Bagwell. "Like there's streaming, and that's great, but it's existing in another world than the game is. We're trying to bring those worlds together to create something really interesting, and by having it be baked into the motivations--where you're rewarded for being entertaining. And it's not such a broad idea of being entertaining, but we can be specific about being funny or being dramatic or all these other things. You don't need to be the world's greatest shooter or have crazy elite gamer skills to have fun and have a good time. And we're hoping to provide a stage for all types of players to enjoy."
During one instance, our group of five--led by a placid streamer who'd quickly turn ruthless when the time was right--fought a rival party while trying to make sure one of our own could make it onto the helicopter. Unfortunately, the audience voted to send in a bomb around the extraction site, which subsequently went off and eliminated half the performers in the area.
One aspect of SOS that the developers were keen on maintaining is the feeling of unpredictability. With trust being a hard thing to come by, resulting in some players having to jump through hoops to get on someone's good side, there was a feeling of uncertainty in each game. Milham spoke about many of the strange events he's seen from streamers--including a spontaneous rap-battle between performers to curry favor with a well-supplied survivor--and how that all tied into the broader experience of what SOS offers.
"What we're hoping to do is to embrace and steer into that unpredictability, which is really the magic of the whole thing," Milham said. "We've seen a number of amazing moments that we've never could have predicted in our closed alpha. And then creating a world that is flexible and strong, and doesn't break if people behave in unpredictable ways--that feels additive and fun in that whole group [for all players]. We're creating a world that isn't about the moderation team and their ban-hammers trying to enforce the ruleset; I mean of course, we'll have to guide the community in some form, but our theory is that communities are pretty good at guiding themselves if they feel respected and encourage positive behavior. Being a jerk isn't entertaining, and the community itself will weed out that sort of behavior."
With the upcoming closed beta starting on December 11, more people will be able to try out SOS's tongue-in-cheek take on the battle royale sub-genre. While most games within the Battle Royale sub-genre tend to focus more on the shoot first, ask questions later set-up, SOS flips that around, putting your words ahead of the violence. Of course, violence is oftentimes the end result--and SOS doesn't deter players from taking that route if they choose--but how you arrive at the action is often more interesting than the act itself. Set for full release sometime next year, SOS is shaping up to be a clever twist on the sub-genre in asking you to put on a good show while doing what you have to do to survive.
Curse of Osiris has been released for Destiny 2, kicking off the shooter's Season 2 and introducing a variety of new gear. Xur has now arrived, marking his first appearance during the new season to sell more Exotic armor and an Exotic weapon. For the second week in a row, he can be found in the same spot on Earth; here's exactly where to find Xur and what he's selling.
Xur has taken up temporary residence once again in the EDZ's Winding Cove. To reach him, fast travel to the Winding Cove landing zone and jump on your Sparrow. You'll see a winding road to your left--head up there, and you'll come upon a cliff with a downed ship. Exit your sparrow and jump up the rocks to the right side. (You can also jump on the left and then walk across the top of the ship, but you'll need to be fast, as this is technically out of bounds.) Once you reach the top, Xur will be right in front of you.
While his location might not be new, some of the gear he is selling is. Two of the four items for sale are from Curse of Osiris, including Titan leg armor. More notably, Xur's weapon this week is the trace rifle PrometheusLens--the same Prometheus Lens that is wrecking players in Crucible right now due to a bug. Bungie has said a fix is coming, but not until update 1.1.1 next week, meaning Crucible--and the newly launched Trials of the Nine--are going to be especially chaotic, albeit with everyone having a fair shot at using the gun. Here's everything Xur has for sale this week:
The Dragon's Shadow (Hunter Chest Armor) -- 23 Legendary Shards
Nezarec's Sin (Warlock Helmet) -- 23 Legendary Shards
Mk. 44 Stand Asides (Titan Leg Armor) -- 23 Legendary Shards
That's all Xur has for this week. Bungie previously announced that he would begin selling a new Three of Coins item, as well as Fated Engrams (which will provide you with an Exotic you don't already own). However, it appears that will have to wait until next week, after the next patch.
The release of Curse of Osiris has resulted in non-DLC owners losing access to some activities in the game. With both Prometheus Lens and the Stand Asides being Osiris items, that means those looking to buy a weapon or Titan gear from Xur this week will have to own the DLC. Locking players out of some content--namely the Prestige Nightfall and Prestige Raid--means it's now impossible to earn all Trophies and Achievements in the base game. Bungie has said it will address this issue, but it has not yet indicated if it will provide more content to non-DLC owners.
As was the case with The Dark Below DLC for the original Destiny, Bungie has effectively locked Destiny 2 owners out of some activities they previously had access to if they have not purchased Curse of Osiris. The expansion launched earlier this week and, among many other things, increased the level and Power level caps, resulting in a corresponding increase to level requirements for select modes. As a result, those who have not purchased Curse of Osiris suddenly find themselves unable to take part in things they could play just a few days ago.
This affects a number of areas in the game. The Prestige Nightfall has seen its Power level cap requirement increased to a point that non-DLC owners cannot reach, rendering it inaccessible to them. The same is true for the Prestige version of the Leviathan Raid, which means it's not possible to earn the Achievement/Trophy for completing a Prestige Nightfall or Raid. Additionally, one of the three Meditations offered by Ikora this week is from Curse of Osiris, meaning those without the DLC only have two they can play. The same problem could potentially hit the standard Nightfall in the future; featuring an Osiris Strike would mean only DLC owners have access for that week.
The Heroic Strike playlist from Destiny 1 was also introduced to Destiny 2 for the first time this week. It seemingly could have been added for everyone to help compensate for the loss of the aforementioned modes, but it's restricted to Curse of Osiris owners.
At this point, Crucible is largely unaffected, as new playlists have been introduced for Osiris owners to be able to play the new maps. It's unclear at this point if, for instance, Trials will be limited to some players if an Osiris map is featured during a given event.
As you'd expect, players are incredibly angry, flocking to places like Reddit to express their frustration. Particularly in light of how long the game has been out--about three months, or closer to six weeks on PC--there are complaints about already having limited access to content. Players have described the expansion pass as feeling more like a subscription fee required to continue making full use of the game, rather than an optional DLC.
Rockstar has continued to consistently roll out new content for Grand Theft Auto V's online mode, GTA Online, since launch. It's set to get one of its biggest pieces of content to date with the launch of a new online heist that arrives next week on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
The Doomsday Heist is described as a "massive new adventure" by Rockstar. Players will team up with an "unlikely alliance" between some of the game's characters to save San Andreas from what appears to be the threat of nuclear annihilation. Here's the plot description shared by Rockstar:
"A billionaire tech mogul, an idealistic intelligence agent, a socially awkward conspiracy theorist, and a neurotic supercomputer have been forced into an unlikely alliance to save San Andreas from total annihilation. As apocalyptic threats mount from enemies unknown, you and your criminal crew are enlisted to untangle mysteries and eradicate threats spanning from the bustling streets of downtown Los Santos to the ocean floor and all the way to the inner depths of Mount Chiliad in an epic new online adventure."
Rockstar also shared the trailer above, which teases out some of the heist's highlights. It looks like you'll break into top-secret bases, go on bombing runs, and drive a flying car. The promotional image above also features a jetpack and a shot of that same car underwater that looks reminiscent of the James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me.
The Doomsday Heist will be released for free to all players on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on December 12. It marks the first heist added to the game since online heists were introduced in 2015. That makes this a particularly notable launch. It's also the first since many new system and elements were introduced, such as this year's aircraft-centric update.
One of the key post-campaign activities for Destiny 2 players to check out after finishing the new Curse of Osiris DLC expansion's campaign are Lost Prophecies. Completing these reward you with unique new, Vex-style weapons, but you don't immediately gain access to any of this. Here's how to unlock Lost Prophecies.
After finishing the campaign, speak with Brother Vance at the Lighthouse on Mercury. He'll provide you with a mission to complete some Adventures. Once you've done three of them, you'll unlock access to Heroic Adventures. These are more difficult versions of standard Adventures with a recommended Power level of 300 and Nightfall-style Modifiers to contend with. While difficult, you can thankfully respawn. Completing one of these will earn you a variety of rewards (including a new shader and emblem), and you'll be able to speak with Vance to move things along.
At this point, he'll provide you with your first Lost Prophecy quest. You'll receive an item that needs to have certain requirements fulfilled; for instance, you might have to farm Heroic Public Events or chests to obtain a specific type of item that must be consumed. (This can take the form of a single blue item, or a green version--in which case you'll need to acquire 10 and then trade them into Vance.) Once you're done that, head back to the Lighthouse, speak with Vance, and activate the Forge. From here, you can craft the first of the new Vex weapons--check out one we got above. It's unclear at this point exactly how often you can repeat all of this, but there are a number of weapons and Lost Prophecy "verses" to complete.
Even aside from these, there are numerous new weapons in Curse of Osiris to obtain. There's also a variety of new gear, new Exotics, and tons of new Eververse cosmetics to obtain through the newly refreshed Bright engrams. As noted above, the expansion also introduces a new (if somewhat brief) campaign set on Mercury, additional Crucible content, and more.
Among the additions in Destiny 2's just-released Curse of Osiris expansion is a new Public Event on Mercury. Like those in the base game, players looking for an extra challenge (or simply better rewards) can activate a more difficult, Heroic version of this activity. However, doing so isn't simply a matter of pressing a button--and it's a more involved process than of any Public Event that we've seen before. Here's what you need to do.
After completing Curse of Osiris's first mission, head to Mercury and walk straight out of the Lighthouse. The Public Event starts near the two Vex who are standing at attention; stand near them and wait for the event flag to appear, then go toward the inner ring of the Fields of Glass. Enemies will begin spawning on the left and right sides from portals; kill them until an enemy with a yellow health bar named Keeper of Ages appears. It will drop orbs, which you'll then need to take to two warp gates near where it spawned. Then repeat this process on the other side.
Next, you'll want to wait for the catapult to turn around. Jump on top of it so you can reach one of the two islands on either side of the area. Kill the enemy named Keeper of Ages Present (or Past), pick up the orb it drops, and dunk it at the center of the island. You'll then see a Vex object floating near the back of the platform. Shooting this will provide platforms for you to jump on. You'll likely need more than one person to follow these platforms to the top of the island where they can activate a plate on the roof.
With the Heroic version of the event triggered, the Vex Gate Lord will spawn, this time with a shield. Kill the enemies around it and take the orbs they drop back to the gates from the first part of the event. Catapult up to the roof of the center area, and from here, you can dunk orbs to drop the Gate Lord's shield, allowing you to damage it. Repeat the process until it's dead to complete the event.
This Public Event is just one of the new pieces of content you'll find in Curse of Osiris. There's also new story content and Strikes on Mercury, as well as Crucible content and a variety of new weapons, gear, and cosmetics to acquire. Its release coincides with that of update 1.1.0, with another major Destiny 2 update due out next week.
It's officially December, and the first Tuesday of the month has brought with it a new batch of free games for PlayStation Plus members. A total of six more games are now available for download to Plus subscribers, including a total of as many as four on PlayStation 4 (or five if you're in Europe).
PS4's lineup is headlined by Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, a remastered version of the 2012 Zelda-esque action game. This version includes all of the original release's DLC along with a variety of technical improvements. It's free this month alongside Kung Fu Panda: Showdown of Legendary Legends. A PSVR freebie from November, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, remains free throughout this month, and those in Europe can also pick up That's You for free. Additionally, thanks to Cross-Buy, Forma 8 is available on PS4 in addition to Vita.
The PS3 side features Xblaze: Lost Memories and Syberia Collection, the latter of which is a compilation of the two Syberia adventure games. In addition to the aforementioned Forma 8, Vita owners can download Wanted Corp for free.
All of these games are available now for PS Plus members on the PlayStation Store. They'll be free to download until Tuesday, January 2, when Sony will replace them with the next batch of freebies. Claiming these games allows you to play them as much as you want for as long as you have an active Plus membership.
In addition to the free game downloads, PS Plus subscribers receive some other bonuses this month. Plus members get exclusive access to the Monster Hunter World beta, which runs from December 9-12 on PS4. Later in the month, they'll also receive the PlayStation Plus Pack for free-to-play game Smite, which consists of various characters, skins, and voice packs.
Much has been said about EA's planned use of microtransactions in Star Wars Battlefront II, but its approach to post-release downloadable content is far more attractive. All DLC will be released for free, and that starts this month with the first "season" of updates, which will in this case be themed around the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi.
This started modestly this week, as you can now choose to ally yourself with the First Order or New Republic. Doing so presents you with special, weekly faction quests over the next few weeks with rewards that correspond to your side.
"Completing these will not only reward you with Credits and Crafting Parts, but help edge your faction closer to victory, giving all members of that side a additional rewards," developer DICE explained. "The other faction will get a crate of their own with lesser prizes, but it will hopefully come with a drive to fight back even harder."
For this first challenge, players have to rack up 50 kills with each trooper class. This doesn't need to be completed before the next challenges arrive; you have until the end of the season to finish and can complete them in any order.
The bulk of this month's additions come on December 13. Battlefront II will add two new heroes (Captain Phasma and Finn), a Galactic Assault map (Crait), a Starfighter Assault map (D'Qar), and a new vehicle (Tallie's A-Wing), along with new weekly and daily challenges. All of that comes on the multiplayer side, but there's also something new for single-player, as we'll get an additional mission called Resurrection. This sees you again step into the shoes of Iden Versio, this time "during the days of the First Order's rise to power."
Throughout the month, other new challenges and special events will also arrive, including a holiday playlist on December 27. Everything will be available on all platforms--PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC--and is scheduled to coincide with the release of The Last Jedi on December 15.
DICE continues to make adjustments to Star Wars Battlefront II. While microtransactions remain disabled, the studio released a new update earlier this week in an attempt to address complaints regarding the rate at which players earn rewards and unlock new items.
With new content themed around The Last Jedi on the way throughout December, the new Battlefront II update focuses exclusively on progression. A common complaint among fans has been that the game is too slow to dole out Credits, and that your performance factors in very little--leading to some players finding ways to idle in-game by running in circles to rack up rewards. All players will now receive more Credits at the end of a match, and DICE has "specifically bump[ed] the top players on each team by even more."
Additionally, DICE has increased--but not removed--the cap on how many Credits can be earned in Arcade mode every day. DICE said in a blog post that players "were hitting the Arcade mode Credit cap faster than [it] expected." As a result, you can now earn up to 1,500 daily, three times as many as before. DICE explained, "While we're still looking into ways to add more content into the mode in the long-term, we think that this should help in the near-term for those who want rewards for completing the different scenarios."
The final change comes from rewards handed out through the free loot crate you receive for logging in each day. These now provide more crafting parts, which are used to obtain specific Star Cards. DICE stated, "This should help you get where you want to go faster when it comes to crafting and upgrading."
Following this update, Battlefront II will be receiving a variety of new content for free this month. The Last Jedi season of content has officially begun; updates later in the month will bring new maps, vehicles, Hero units, and a campaign chapter, among other things.
It's officially December around the world, which means Xbox Live Gold subscribers can now pick up the first of December's free Games With Gold titles. Two more games are now available to download for free if you're an Xbox Live Gold member, with another two set to arrive later in the month.
Also note that one of November's Games With Gold titles, Tales From the Borderlands, will continue to be free on Xbox One through through December 15. You can see the full Games With Gold schedule for December below.
In other news, Microsoft has rolled out the latest weekly Xbox One and Xbox 360 deals. A variety of games are on sale for Xbox Live Gold members in particular, including Unravel, The Jackbox Party Pack, and the Metro games. These will be available through December 11, while the Games With Gold title schedule varies, as outlined below.

A new month means a slew of new programming to watch on Amazon Prime. The streaming video component of the service is ending the year on a high note by adding some notable franchises and classic movies like Point Break to its offerings in December.
Most notable, the Rocky movies are coming to Prime. Rocky through Rocky V will all help Amazon kick off the month. They join Creed, which is already available to subscribers. Now Amazon just needs to snag the rights to Rocky Balboa and the collection will be complete.
The streamer is also adding the eight-film Marvel Animated Features collection. The cartoon movies, originally released direct-to-DVD, include Ultimate Avengers, Planet Hulk, Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme, and Thor: Tales of Asgard, among others. Originally released between 2006 and 2011, the films exist in their own universe apart from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
December also brings several more Thursday Night Football games, as the NFL presents the Saints vs. the Falcons, the Broncos vs. the Colts, and the Steelers vs. the Texans. Those games will air live through Amazon Prime.
With the arrival of the holidays comes a slew of new shows and movies on Netflix. It's a particularly busy month for the streamer, with many holiday specials joining the service, alongside several Netflix originals and a number of new library titles. With popular titles like V for Vendetta, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Black Mirror, and Disney's The Santa Clause trilogy arriving, December is going to be a busy month for streaming.
However, it's a Netflix original movie that you should be paying closest attention to. December 22 will see the premiere of Bright, starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. The fantasy crime movie is directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad) with a script by Max Landis (American Ultra). The film marks Smith's first time starring in a Netflix project and he's certainly picked an interesting one.
Bright is set in a world where humans and fantasy creatures coexist. Smith plays an LAPD officer who is partnered with an Orc (Edgerton) when they find a very powerful magic wand that has the potential to change the world. Other new entries include Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, a new season of The Ranch, and Dave Chappelle's latest stand-up comedy special. It's not all good news, though.
There are also many titles departing the service in December. Black Snake Moan, Practical Magic, and 11 seasons of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia are just a few of the movies and shows that will no longer be available after the end of 2017. So make sure you watch them while you still can.
You can take a look at the full list of what's coming and going on Netflix throughout December below. You can also see everything that's arrived in November.

Ubisoft has announced Far Cry 5's release date has been delayed. The open-world first-person shooter will now launch on March 27, 2018, instead of the previously announced February 27, 2018 date, which constitutes a delay of one month.
In addition to this, The Crew 2's release has been moved from March 16, 2018 to the first half of Ubisoft's 2018-19 fiscal year, which means it will launch between April 2018 and September 2018. One other Ubisoft franchise game, which has not yet been revealed, has been moved to its fiscal year 2019-20.
Far Cry 5 is set in Hope County, Montana. It lets allows players to create their own characters, who is a junior deputy. The main antagonists in the game are a religious cult called Eden's Gate, which has impacted the lives of some of the characters that join the player on their mission. The cast of supporting characters include Pastor Jerome, an African-American priest who has lost his flock to the cult; Mary May, a bartender with a penchant for flammable cocktails; and Nick Rye, a pilot who wants to create a better future for his child.
One of the big new additions is the ability to use dogs to distract enemies and pick up weapons for you. Other classic open-world gameplay opportunities such as flying planes are also available to the player. Far Cry 5 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
The Crew 2, meanwhile, features an "open-world USA" that has been "completely reshaped for motorsports." In addition to cars, players will be able to take control of boats and planes for the sequel. There are four main motorsport categories in the game: street racing, off-road, pro, and freestyle, each of which has its own set of "deep" options and "wide selection of vehicle types." A beta is coming for The Crew 2, and you can register for it on the game's website here.

During the PlayStation Experience 2017 keynote tonight, Sony revealed that a remaster of PS1 action game MediEvil will be coming to PS4.
The company showed a brief teaser trailer announcing the remaster, though it ended with "more details soon." No release window was announced. You can watch the teaser above.
MediEvil originally released in 1998 on the PlayStation. It was re-released (albeit not remastered) on the PlayStation Network in 2007 and got a PSP remake in 2005. It features a Nightmare Before Christmas-like art style and third-person action.

Tonight at PlayStation Experience, PlayStation boss Shawn Layden gave a glimmer of hope that PlayStation users may finally be able to change their PSN names. In an interview following the PSX keynote, Layden started off by joking, "The elves at the North Pole have been working on it." He went on to say that the ability to change your PSN name is "more complex than you think" when it comes to what has to happen behind the scenes from a technical standpoint.
All of that being said, Layden said he hopes Sony will give players the ability to change their PSN names by PSX 2018. "I hope we'll see events occur that you won't have to ask me that question next PSX," he said to interviewer Greg Miller who started his exchange with Layden by asking about the ability to change a PSN name.
Name-changing has been available for years on Xbox platforms. The first name change is free on Xbox, while additional changes incur a fee. We don't know how it would work on PlayStation, if it ever happens.

The next game from developer Quantic Dream, Detroit: Become Human, had gameplay to show off at PlayStation Experience 2017, but with a twist. Producer Guillaume de Fondaumière played part of the game on stage in which the audience participated in the decision making. The sequence played was from the original E3 2016 hostage situation, but new gameplay mechanics were on display at PSX.
The android Connor was tasked with leading a raid to handle a hostage situation where another android was holding a human child captive. The audience roared as the fish on the floor was saved after entering the room, but de Fondaumière stated, "Remember that every action has a consequence."
Once he was in the suite, the mind palace mechanic (by pulling R2) was used, which allows Connor to scan the surroundings for objectives, points of interest, and evidence. Yellow flags appear in the environment to signify this. As Connor pieced evidence together, he used the analyze evidence ability to see what had happened in the recent past and play the events back. A probability-of-success rating increased in the UI as more evidence was acquired.
During hostage negotiation, Connor had to make on-the-fly decisions to talk down the android holding the hostage as button prompts came on screen, in usual Quantic Dream fashion. Ultimately, the decision was made to shoot the hostage-holder and Connor was successful in saving the child. However, we weren't shown the consequences of these decisions, which should play a large role in how Detroit's story unfolds.
Everything that happened during the playthrough of Detroit: Become Human can be seen in the video above.
The previous gameplay trailer revealed at Paris Games Week earlier this year showed off a sequence in which the android maid Kara is shown making difficult decisions. It received criticism for its portrayal of child abuse in one of the possible paths in the game. Not much context was provided around this sequence of events following the reveal, though we took a deeper look at the issues surrounding Detroit.

Ever since Hideo Kojima's new game, Death Stranding, was announced at E3 last year, many have been wondering what type of the game it is and what all the weirdness is all about. We still don't know. But today at PlayStation Experience, PS4 boss Mark Cenry confirmed that the game is already playable and everything will make sense...eventually.
Cerny said he has played 4-5 hours of the game, noting that the story--or parts of it--will make sense after getting this far. It was also confirmed during the keynote that what you saw in the newest, strangest-yet trailer for Death Stranding was captured on PlayStation 4 Pro. Additionally, Kojima confirmed that the sequence in the new trailer where Norman Reedus' character is underwater is playable right now internally.
A new trailer for Death Stranding--the strangest one yet--was shown off during The Game Awards this week and again tonight during PlayStation Experience. You can watch it again in the embed above and check out our breakdown of the big moments here.

PlayStation Experience 2017 kicked off with the reveal of a squad-based shooter for PlayStation VR called Firewall Zero Hour. This multiplayer shooter looks to capitalize on the growing success of Rainbow Six Siege with its tactical gameplay and gadgetry to help players get a leg up on their opponents. Some other selling points include the ability to look around corners and the ability to plant explosives, implying some level of destructibility with environments. And while the popular mode of movement in VR shooters is point-to-point teleportation, it was refreshing to see this first-person shooter in action using traditional movements. You'll be able to control your character using the PlayStation Move controllers or the Dual Shock controller.
Firewall Zero Hour looks to add to the VR platform's growing list of shooters like Farpoint and Doom VR.

The upcoming God of War game for PS4 aims to be quite a bit different from the previous entries in the series. As opposed to Greek gods, it takes Kratos to a land dominated by Nordic gods and monsters; it's also meant to be a more intimate story about Kratos and his son. As the developer revealed today during the PSX 2017 opening presentation, the game is also going to be much longer than its predecessors.
Creative Director Cory Barlog announced on stage that the game will take about 25-35 hours to complete. This would make it significantly larger than the mainline entries in the series. For comparison, all three core God of War games average around 10 hours to beat.
This means that God of War PS4 is going to have a lot more content than previous titles, which Barlog hopes will be filled with exploration. There'll be different paths you can take through the world, and Barlog wants players to treat the game as a "tour bus."
God of War is currently scheduled for release sometime in 2018. The game's latest trailer was released during Paris Games Week, and it shows off some father-son combat; you can watch it in the embed above. Be sure to keep an eye on GameSpot for more news about God of War and other PS4 games coming out of PSX 2017 this weekend.

If you were a teenage girl, and you suddenly woke up in a middle-aged man's body, chances are you'd be amazed at any number of discoveries. Chief among them: having a penis.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sees four hapless teens slurped into the video game world of Jumanji, where they find themselves in the "avatar" bodies of Dr. Smolder Bravestone (The Rock), Moose Finbar (Kevin Hart), Professor Shelly Oberon (Jack Black), and Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan). One of those body swaps--Madison Iseman's character Bethany into Jack Black's Shelly Oberon--is a gender flip, and Jumanji never shies away from that most obvious--but effective--of jokes.
Yes, the new Jumanji movie is full to the brim with dick jokes. Besides in his perpetual role as JB in the comedy-rock band Tenacious D, Jack Black has perhaps never been funnier than while playing a teenage girl stuck in Jack Black's body. Welcome to the Jungle isn't the kid's movie you may recall the original Jumanji as; this is a movie for teenagers and adults who grew up with the original.
And yet, it isn't. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is that rare sequel/reboot/remake that doesn't sink into a quagmire of its own nostalgic quicksand. References to the original are few and far between, besides a single obvious nod to Robin Williams' character, Alan Parrish. The board game so many '90s kids wished was real appears briefly in a cold open at the movie's start, before transforming itself into a video game to keep up with the times.
This inadvertently expands on the Jumanji mythology, such as it is, significantly: The game apparently has the ability to change its form and rules to better serve its ultimate goal. Whether that goal is to trap helpless children and consume their souls, or simply to teach them a wholesome lesson about perseverance, friendship, and acceptance, is immaterial. Either way, it hacks a path for more iterations in the future, should this one prove successful.
Things pick up when the main stars take the stage. Johnson, Hart, Gillan, and Black all do a phenomenal job embodying the teenagers inside them while playing up the more ridiculous aspects of the whole situation. Spencer--the nerd--becomes the irresistible Dr. Smolder Bravestone, and watching The Rock discover his own massive arm muscles for the first time is hilarious. Gillan does a fantastic job playing a "nerdy" girl in a "hot" body, alternating between a confident badass who "dance fights" her enemies and an awkward girl who can't talk to boys, and showing many shades in between.
It's from the veins of these incongruous personality-to-body match-ups that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle mines most of its comedy, and its heart. One of the best scenes comes when Jack Black (really, Bethany) has to teach Karen Gillan (Martha, the awkward girl) how to flirt with boys so she can distract a pair of guards. Somehow, Black's performance as the soul of a teenage girl never devolves into caricature, while still being intensely funny. All four main actors remain grounded in how these characters would really act, with the occasional exception of Hart, who becomes more like himself and less like "Fridge" as the movie progresses.
The other big aspect here is the world of Jumanji itself, now a video game rather than a board game. It's equal parts The Matrix, Ender's Game, Ready Player One, and Westworld. The avatars these characters inhabit have specific strengths and weaknesses, which they discover through a video game menu that gets beamed into the sky like a hologram. Ruby has to watch out for venom, for example, while Kevin Hart's character is weak to "cake." These concepts all pay off at various points as the characters learn the rules of the game, fight and manipulate enemies, and solve puzzles. Jumanji seems like it would actually be a cool game, were it real.
Bobby Cannavale, Flight of the Conchords band manager Rhys Darby, and Nick Jonas round out a cast of other characters in the game. Spencer, being--again--the nerd, dutifully explains concepts like "non-player characters" and "cutscenes" as they encounter various game-like elements. The world's rules--like the characters needing to say the right phrases to get NPCs to move the quest forward--are established early on, and they help keep the group's goals and parameters clear. Jumanji doesn't spiral out too far on any one concept, like what happens when the characters in the game "die," which lets it stays tight and relatively focused.
There's a lot of heart at the story's core, too, although Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle ultimately doesn't want you to take it too seriously--it's just a game, after all.

The final trailer for Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the last chapter in the post-apocalyptic franchise, has arrived. In the third Maze Runner movie, the world is dying and Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) may be the only one who can save it.
The film follows Thomas and the rest of the Gladers as they attempt, once and for all, to take down the evil WCKD organization by penetrating Last City, a labyrinth controlled by the group. His goal is simple: To save children being used as test subjects by WCKD, who hope to find a cure to a virus killing off humanity. It leaves Thomas with the choice to either save his friends and those being held captive, or potentially the entire world.
Joining O'Brien one final time in The Death Cure are co-stars Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Giancarlo Esposito. Walton Goggins will also debut in the movie as Lawrence, who is described as "part-revolutionary, part-anarchist, and a voice for the voiceless people."
Maze Runner: The Death Cure arrives in theaters on January 26.
