March is finally here, which means starting today, more free PC games are available for Amazon and Twitch Prime members. Until March 31, you can download these four games at no cost: Star Vikings Forever, The King's Bird, Kabounce, and Snake Pass.
Star Vikings Forever is a lengthy puzzle RPG about space vikings that fight evil intergalactic space snails. The King's Bird is an artsy platformer that utilizes gliding and requires maintaining your momentum to navigate many challenges. Brush up on your pinball skills with Kabounce, a multiplayer experience from the perspective of the ball itself where you try to hit bumpers to claim points for your team. In unique platformer Snake Pass, you're asked to "think like a snake" as you solve puzzles, which involves slithering into small spaces, coiling around bamboo to climb, and more.
To claim these deals, you just have to make sure your Amazon account is linked to Twitch. Every month there's a new round of free games, and Twitch also gives away free in-game loot and other digital content for Prime members on an ongoing basis.
It's been nearly two years since there was any news about the potential sequel to the Tom Cruise-starring Edge of Tomorrow, but it seems the project is moving forward again. It has been reported that Warner is developing a follow-up to the 2014 sci-fi action movie.
According to Deadline, writer Matthew Robinson (Monster Trucks, The Invention of Lying) has been hired to work on the script after successfully pitching a story idea to the studio. The site states that the intention is for Cruise to reprise his role as reluctant soldier William Cage, along with co-star Emily Blunt and director Doug Liman.
Liman had previously spoken about his hopes to make a sequel, and in 2017 stated he had an "amazing" story for a sequel that was "way better than the first film." However, Deadline now states that work on this earlier version stalled and Robinson's story will be an entirely new take.
The Edge of Tomorrow sequel doesn't have a release date, and don't expect to see it anytime soon. Cruise will be seen next year in the Top Gun sequel Maverick, which will be followed by Mission Impossible 7 and 8, which are to be shot back-to-back and will release in 2021 and 2022. Blunt is also lined up to star in the horror sequel A Quiet Place 2, which arrives in May 2020.
Edge of Tomorrow was an adaptation of the Japanese novel All You Need is Kill, and was a hit with both audiences and critics. It grossed more than $370 million worldwide and currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 90%.
Time is running out to catch a Shiny Meltan in Pokemon Go. As part of the game's ongoing Meltan event, Niantic is giving players their first chance to find the Shiny version of the new Mythical Pokemon, but it's only scheduled to appear until March 4.
To catch Meltan in Pokemon Go, you'll need to have the Mystery Box--an item you get in the mobile game when you transfer a Pokemon to either Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee on Switch. Once the box is opened, Meltan will spawn in the wild for 30 minutes. After that, the box will close, and you'll typically need to wait a week before you can repeat the process.
As part of this event, you'll have a chance of finding a Shiny Meltan in the wild when you open the Mystery Box. As you can see above, the Shiny variant has a slightly darker head than a typical Meltan, as well as a blue (rather than red) tail. On top of that, the time you need to wait to reopen the Mystery Box has been reduced for the event, allowing you to find Meltan much more quickly than before.
Meltan is the only non-Kanto Pokemon that can be transferred from Go to Let's Go, allowing you to use it in the Switch games. Moreover, Meltan is the only Mythical Pokemon capable of evolving, and if you evolve a Shiny Meltan, it'll retain its special coloration as Melmetal. You can read more on how to catch the Mythical Pokemon in our Meltan guide.
Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee launched for Nintendo Switch in November 2018, while a new pair of Pokemon titles--Sword and Shield--are coming to the console late this year. It's unclear if they'll have any compatibility with Pokemon Go, but they appear to be much more traditional takes on the series than the Let's Go games. You can read more about the newly announced titles in our roundup of everything we know about Pokemon Sword and Shield.
The next reset marks the start of Destiny 2's sixth season, the Season of the Drifter. That makes this weekend's return of Xur, Emissary of the Nine, the last time you'll buy Year One Exotics from Xur before the reset, and a great chance to get something shiny to hold yourself over before the Destiny 2 grind kicks up again with the next part of its Annual Pass.
Head to Nessus this weekend to find Xur, who is hanging out in the Watcher's Grave area. From the transmat zone where you load into the area, head north and look up--Xur is waiting on one of the giant tree branches and you'll need to climb to reach him.
The gun Xur has on offer this week is The Colony, a powerful grenade launcher that often sees a lot of use in the Crucible. Instead of regular grenades, it fires tiny robot insects that crawl along the ground in the direction you fire, homing in on enemies and blowing them up. The Colony is great for competitive play thanks to its grenades' ability to find their targets.
Xur also carries three pieces of Exotic armor each week, and in this haul Titans will find the leg armor dubbed Peacekeepers. These boots automatically reload your SMGs when holstered, improves their handling and your movement speed when you're using them, and allows you to ready them instantly. Hunters can snag Knucklehead Radar, another great Crucible item. The helmet maintains your radar even when you're aiming down sights and gives you improved radar when crouching, increasing your situational awareness in battle pretty significantly. For Warlocks, there's Claws of Ahamkara, a pair of gauntlets that offer you an additional melee charge.
Here are all the Exotics Xur offers this week and what they'll cost you:
The Colony (Exotic pulse rifle) -- 29 Legendary Shards
Peacekeepers (Exotic Titan leg armor) -- 23 Legendary Shards
Claws of Ahamkara (Exotic Warlock gauntlets) -- 23 Legendary Shards
You can also buy a Fated Engram, if you can afford it. Dropping 97 Legendary Shards on the item will grant you one Year One Exotic you don't already have for that character. Xur also offers the Five of Swords challenge card for free, which allows you to add difficulty modifiers that increase your score in Nightfall runs.
Destiny 2's Season of the Drifter brings two new activities for players to try. First up is Gambit Prime, a more intense, one-round version of the competitive mode that came with Forsaken. Once you've played a little Gambit Prime, you'll also get access to The Reckoning, a pinnacle player-vs.-environment activity that'll offer a bunch of new rewards. The Reckoning has three tiers that'll unlock over the course of March, according to Destiny 2's full Season 6 roadmap.
This weekend's free Steam deals include two space-inspired adventures. The first is Space Engineers, an open-world game where you explore the galaxy and build spaceships, outposts, space stations, and more, all while gathering resources to survive. The game left Steam Early Access yesterday after more than five years, and not only is it 20% off on Steam, you can play it for free this weekend.
Space Engineers combines engineering and construction gameplay with themes of survival and exploration. The developers created a "realistic, volumetric-based physics engine," which basically means this game is similar to Minecraft in that everything you see can be used, altered, or destroyed.
"Space Engineers is inspired by reality and by how things work," the developers shared on the game's official website. "Think about modern-day NASA technology extrapolated 60 years into the future. Space Engineers strives to follow the laws of physics and doesn't use technologies that wouldn't be feasible in the near future."
Both single and multiplayer modes are available, and a four-pack of the game is 20% off as well if you want to explore the galaxy with friends.
Offworld Trading Company is another game to check out this weekend, as its multiplayer mode is now permanently free. The game is about space economic warfare, where you strategize around supply and demand to ultimately gain dominance over every other player's trading company. From resource management to black market sabotage, the game requires you to make quick, difficult decisions that can make or break your strategy.
In our review, we gave Offworld Trading Company a 9/10, and it also made our list of the top games of 2016 as one of the best strategy games of the year. Even though direct combat plays no role, the gameplay is far from boring, with real-time multiplayer matches that are intense.
"Matches are vicious, and the scales often tip dramatically," wrote GameSpot's Edmond Tran. "Nobody would have ever thought a game centered around capitalism could get your heartrate up so high, but Offworld Trading Company succeeds with its truly unique, wonderfully-executed concept."
As a plus, the core game is also 70% for the next week, so if you decide you're a fan after trying free multiplayer mode, you can snag the game for just $6 until March 7.
Nintendo is releasing a new set of playable characters for Mario Tennis Aces. Beginning today, March 1, the mayor of New Donk City, Pauline, is making her debut in the Switch tennis games, while two classic Mario villains will join the roster in the next couple of months.
As with Aces' previous DLC characters, players can unlock Pauline by playing at least one match in the game's Online Tournament mode this month, while everyone else will automatically get her after April 1. As you can see in the trailer above, Pauline is a speedy character, and her Special Shot has her delivering a powerful smash from atop New Donk City Hall.
Pauline arrives alongside Aces' 2.3.0 update, which also kicks off a new Co-op Challenge called Shy Guy Train Tussle. Following Pauline, two more classic Mario enemies will be added to the game's roster: Magikoopa and Dry Bones. The former will be available in April, while the latter is set to arrive in May.
This marks Pauline's first appearance in a Mario sports game, but she's actually one of the earliest characters in the Mario series. She's best known for being the damsel-in-distress in the original arcade Donkey Kong game, a role she'd later reprise in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series. Most recently, she made an appearance in Super Mario Odyssey and even canonically sings that game's theme song, "Jump Up, Super Star!"
Nintendo has introduced a number of new characters to Mario Tennis Aces since its launch last June, including Shy Guy, Diddy Kong, Petey Piranha, and Luma. The most recent addition was the classic Super Mario 3 mid-boss Boom Boom, who joined the roster in February.
The Walking Dead might not be the immense ratings hit it once was, but it's still popular enough for AMC to be developing further spin-offs and movies alongside the main series. Last year, it was announced that a series of Walking Dead movies were in the works, and now it has been confirmed that a new spin-off show is being developed.
As reported by to Deadline, AMC revealed the news via its quarterly earnings call. While AMC CEO Josh Sapan didn't provide any specific details about the new show, he did state that a new Walking Dead spin-off was in "active development."
"We're not at a stage where we'll be announcing its plans to premiere," he said "But we have hired creative people that have pitched story outlines. We feel very good about the development of that series."
If a new Walking Dead spin-off happens, it will join Fear the Walking Dead, which is set during the early months of the zombie apocalypse and premiered in 2015. The fifth season is due later this year.
In terms of the Walking Dead movies, they were announced in November last year and are expected to focus on the character of Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln. Lincoln left the main show at the start of the current ninth season, but Walking Dead chief content officer Scott Gimple confirmed that he will return for the films, along with co-star Pollyanna McIntosh, who plays Jadis. It is unknown when they are likely to be released, but the first movie is expected to start filming in 2019.
Current audience numbers for The Walking Dead are nowhere near the numbers it enjoyed in 2014, when the Season 5 premiere became the most watched cable show of all time. Nevertheless, it is still the most popular drama on cable, and as The Wrap notes, its audience decline is in line with a fall in cable viewers across the board.
Dead or Alive 6's release date has finally arrived, and the fighting game is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. All the talk in the lead up to launch was about how developer Team Ninja was toning down the series' traditional oversexualized look to help ease newcomers in to the franchise. But has Team Ninja followed up on that claim and, crucially, is the game any good?
GameSpot's Dead or Alive 6 review-in-progress says it's a mixed bag but ultimately a good choice for those looking to get into fighting games. To help you get a wider view of critical opinion, we've roundup up a bunch of reviews for you below. You can also check out GameSpot sister site Metacritic for the full picture on Dead or Alive 6's critical reception.
Game: Dead or Alive 6
Developer / Publisher: Team Ninja / Koei Tecmo
Release date: out now
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Price: $60 / £55 / AU $100
GameSpot -- 7/10 (Review-In-Progress)
"DoA6 is a fun, engaging fighter with great-feeling, easy-to-pick-up combat, a strong sense of visual style, and a lot of personality. If you're looking for a new fighting game to learn the ins and outs of--or perhaps a nice entry into the 3D side of fighting games--DoA6 is a fighter of choice." -- Heidi Kemps [Full review]
Eurogamer -- No Score
"Accessibility and tutorials cannot compensate for what is, ultimately, a fighting game that feels out of the loop and out of time. Dead or Alive 6 won't make a dent on the competitive fighting game community, and I can't see it expanding its modest fanbase, either. I can't help but struggle to understand those who get horny from this game when the internet in all its glory is a mobile phone tap away. I mean, there's sexier stuff made out of Source Filmmaker - probably involving the Dead or Alive girls - than is in this game. Dead or Alive 6 stumbles into 2019 like a drunken uncle staggers onto the dancefloor at a wedding: past it and likely to embarrass." -- Wesley Yin-Poole [Full review]
IGN -- 8.0/10 (Review-In-Progress)
"Dead or Alive 6 makes a strong case for the franchise's fundamental combat by making it easier to understand what sets it apart from other fighters, other than its infamous 'jiggle physics.' The story campaign is disjointed but it and the other training modes serve as effective instruction for getting new players up to speed for online combat quickly, and the new Break Hold and Break Blow moves give you a way out even when you seem locked into an endless juggle of doom." -- Mike Epstein [Full review]
Trusted Reviews -- 3.5/5
"Dead or Alive 6 is an enjoyable fighter, with a lot going for it. Koei Tecmo has looked back on the series' somewhat juvenile history and decided it's time to grow up. Well, sort of. Sexualised fan-service is still here if you're willing to dig for it, and some of the character designs might rub you the wrong way, but it's far from a deal-breaker and no longer defines what DOA is all about. A robust combat system, plentiful characters and a meaningful progression system combine to create a worthwhile fighter that I'd recommend checking out. It certainly isn't the finest the genre has to offer, but it does more than enough to stand out." -- Jade King [Full review]
US Gamer -- 3/5
"Dead or Alive 6 carries much of the franchise's risque DNA, but shows a bit more initial restraint. The more revealing costumes are unlockable and the jiggle physics tend towards a bit more realism now. Combat remains accessible, but new moves like the Break Blow and evasion add new layers for DOA vets. Dead or Alive 6 could use a little more graphical polish and its netcode needs to be better, but it's a pretty good fighter all around." -- Mike Williams [Full review]
The second trailer for Hellboy is here. The movie is a reboot of Guillermo Del Toro's action fantasy series, based on Mike Mignola's comic books. Stranger Things star David Harbour plays the titular demonic hero, and the movie hits theaters in April.
December's first trailer suggested that the film would be more comedic than many fans were expecting, but this new Red Band promo delivers the dark, violent goods. It's packed with gore, bad language, and apocalyptic action, and also reveals Milla Jovovich's evil Blood Queen for the first time. Which isn't to say it's not funny too--this Hellboy is still a wise-cracking badass. Check it out above.
Hellboy releases on April 12, 2019. It also stars Ian McShane as Professor Broom, Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, and Daniel Dae Kim as Ben Daimo. Marshall is best known for his work on Game of Thrones and the recent Netflix show Lost in Space, plus movies like Doomsday and The Descent.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Harbour explained that the movie isn't an origin story--as when the film starts, Hellboy is already working for the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Development. "It's not an origin story, but it's his coming to terms with where he came from," he said. "He's been Hellboy for a long time, but there's a new turn of events at the start of the film, where people start to bring up the fact that he might bring about the end of the world, and it's really the first time he's heard anything like that. The question that comes up in the movie is where does he really belong?"
Pokemon Sword and Shield were revealed this week as the next Pokemon games for Nintendo Switch. However, it seems the games were teased in 2018--just nobody noticed at the time.
Pokemon director Junichi Masuda tweeted an image of himself back in October holding everyday objects posing as a sword and shield. Of course, it was unlikely anyone could have figured out at the time he was referring to the new Pokemon games, but it's still amusing to look back on this now-obvious clue.
Pokemon Sword and Shield are to be released in "late 2019." The games are set in a new region named Galar, which looks to be similar in appearance to Britain. The three starter creatures were shown off in Nintendo's Pokemon Direct presentation; they are a grass monkey named Grookey, a fire bunny named Scorbunny, and a sad water lizard, Sobble. Gameplay was shown in the Direct but was not detailed extensively, though it seems like the new games will bring back random encounters, among other things. We've rounded up the big takeaways from what we've seen so far to help you get a handle on what to expect.
Horizon Zero Dawn launched two years ago today, and it's done quite well in that time. In a blog post celebrating the milestone, Guerrilla Games managing director Hermen Hulst revealed that the game has now sold "well over" 10 million copies worldwide.
"The idea that we were able to bring Aloy's journey to so many players is astounding," he said. "We'e been deeply moved by the enormous amount of fan creations you've posted online, as well as the heartfelt letters you've sent sharing your favorite moments from Aloy's journey."
This figure likely includes copies of the game purchased outright and those included in PS4 hardware bundles.
Horizon Zero Dawn was something new for Guerrilla, which up until that point had been best known for its Killzone shooter series. Given the commercial success of Horizon Zero Dawn, a sequel would seemingly make sense for business reasons. No announcements have been made, but Hulst previously teased that Aloy might have more stories to tell and secrets to uncover beyond the main game and its Frozen Wilds expansion.
"She's really uncovered some of the main mysteries in the world, but how do you feel when you finish the story? Are there questions that come up that you want to answer for Aloy?" Hulst told GamesRadar. It was not difficult for us to build the Frozen Wilds and tell that story through Aloy. The environments and the world that we've put together easily raise more questions, so it feels pretty rich to us, but that's all I can say about that for now."
Also in the blog post, Hulst shared some "peculiar details" about the developer of Horizon Zero Dawn. Here are some of the highlights:
They used the model for Killzone 3's Jammer as a stand-in for Aloy in the game's early stages because her character model was still being developed.
Guerrilla's Jochen Willemensen got the flu during development. While recovering at home he saw a movie starring Hannah Hoekstra, and used her face as a model for Aloy's.
Baby Aloy was voiced by an actual baby. Guerrilla's music supervisor Lucas van Tol captured his daughter's voice and sounds by setting up a recording area near her playpen.
Tol researched 750 bird sounds for the game and only 30 made the cut.
Deadline reports that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years A Slave, Star Wars) is in talks to join the Cary Fukunaga-directed action movie. Nyong'o also appeared in the Oscar-winning Black Panther and is set to have a role in Jordan Peele's eerie new film Us.
If Nyong'o does join Bond 25, she'll be at least the second Oscar-winner on the call sheet. Malek just won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Nyong'o won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for 2012's 12 Years A Slave.
What is confirmed about Bond 25 is that Daniel Craig will be back to play Bond again, and for the last time. We also know that Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, and Lea Seydoux are coming back to reprise their roles. The movie will reportedly add Billy Magnussen (The Many Saints of Newark, The Big Short, in a role said to be similar to the American CIA agent likened to Jeffrey Wright's character in previous movies.
Bond 25 is scheduled to start shooting sometime this Spring and hit theatres in April 2020.
2015's Spectre is the latest James Bond film. It was a gigantic commercial success, making around $880 million worldwide at the box office.
Pirates of the Enchiridion is the most recent game based on beloved cartoon Adventure Time, and it gives players control of characters like Finn, Jake, and Marceline to investigate why the Land of Ooo has been flooded. Thanks to backward compatibility, 2005's Star Wars Republic Commando can be played on Xbox One and offers an exciting single-player campaign with squad-based, military-style combat.
Plants vs. Zombies fans will appreciate the free download of Garden Warfare 2. The light-hearted shooter expands the series with new characters, modes, and solo content while retaining the humor and ridiculous costumes that make it so entertaining. Finally, there's Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which takes place four years after Metal Gear Solid 4 and puts players in control of a cybernetically enhanced Raiden. In our review, we praised the game for its adrenaline-pumping combat and Raiden's compelling story.

BioWare has released a new update for Anthem, its multiplayer-focused action RPG. The update addresses tethering issues that occurred when playing with others by increasing the time available to catch up to teammates. [Update: In addition to this update, BioWare has also rolled out hotfixes that reduce Masterwork crafting costs and removes the possibility of getting inscriptions that are useless for the item in question. The latter change doesn't change any existing items and will only affect loot drops received after the hot fix rolled out on Thursday. You can see the complete patch notes for these hot fixes and the tethering update below.]
The tethering system keeps you from wandering too far away from your team and focused on completing the selected mission at hand. If you don't keep up with your teammates, a message will pop up that informs you that you will be teleported to your allies unless you return to the mission area. After Anthem launched, players complained the system wasn't forgiving enough and didn't provide an adequate amount of time for anyone to catch up to their teammates before being subjected to a loading screen--which also occasionally caused them to lose out on crucial in-game dialogue or cutscenes.
The new update also implements changes to Strongholds. In the Swarm Tyrant encounter in the Tyrant Mine Stronghold, you and your squad will no longer be able to reset the battle by exiting to the main menu and rejoining the session. Also, you will no longer be able to reopen chests that have already been looted in Strongholds. For the full patch notes on the update, you can check out BioWare's post on Reddit.
BioWare has another update planned for Anthem that is scheduled to launch either sometime tonight or tomorrow, March 1. This next update will affect loot in Anthem. Specifically, uncommon and common weapons and abilities no longer appear from level 30 drop tables, and crafting requirements for masterwork items and embers has decreased. Inscriptions on all masterwork items will also now exclusively apply to the weapon or ability it amplifies. So, for example, a masterwork pistol will only be inscribed with a special ability that amplifies pistols, and not shotguns or assault rifles. This update will only apply to new items that you find or craft however, so all weapons and abilities you've previously collected will not be affected.
If you're still on the fence about picking up Anthem, be sure to check out our review of the game. If you're already playing, we have guides to help you out, which are outlined below.
The tethering timer for missions has been increased. Players should now have more time to catch up to their Squad before seeing a countdown timer.
The Swarm Tyrant encounter in the Tyrant Mine Stronghold can no longer be reset by the entire Squad exiting to the main menu and rejoining the session in progress.
Players are no longer able to reopen chests that had already been looted in Strongholds.
In addition to the above updates we have deployed the following hot fixes:
Items will no longer have inscriptions on them that are not appropriate for that specific item. NOTE: This only applies to items obtained after the patch. Items obtained prior to the patch will still have the same inscriptions they had before.
Masterwork crafting costs have been reduced from 25 -> 15 Masterwork Embers. The amount of plants, metal and parts required for crafting a Masterwork item have also been reduced.
Techland, the Polish developer behind Dying Light and Call of Juarez franchises, recently announced a round of layoffs, but the studio's ongoing game projects are unaffected.
The job losses came as part of Techland's decision to close its Polish distribution and publishing department. Techland was in the business of publishing some third-party boxed games in Poland specifically, but that is coming to an end by the end of 2019.
Everyone affected by the layoffs is receiving a severance package that Techland says is "above the [video game] industry and the Polish employment legislation standards." Affected employees will receive help finding new jobs, Techland said, adding that employees affected by the restructuring were made aware of the move for a period of time before it became official.
Techland added that its Polish publishing and distribution business has not been a core pillar of Techland's strategy for "a few years," so the wind-down was expected. Those who were laid off worked in "logistics and trade" departments. No game developers were affected.
The restructuring at Techland has no influence on Dying Light 2's development or its publishing of God's Trigger, the studio said, adding that the company's overall global structure is unchanged.
"Techland is in good condition, which is proven by the fact Dying Light sales continue to grow year-on-year," the studio said. "We are growing in terms of AAA open world action games development."
13 employees are affected by the restructuring, Techland said. The company employs more than 400 people, while it has more than 50 people currently being actively recruited for roles.
Here is Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka's full statement:
"After months worth of market analysis we have started the process of shutting down the Polish publishing and distribution department. The process will last until the end of 2019. This only applies to 3rd party boxed goods on the Polish market. For several years physical distribution has not been the core of our strategy, which is to develop the best AAA action open-world games."
"These changes have no impact on our global publishing plans and the development of two AAA games we are currently working on, one of them being Dying Light 2. Our company is constantly growing and developing great games. The sales of the original Dying Light are not only not decreasing, but actually continuing to grow year-on-year. Dying Light constantly reaches new audiences and and this makes us happy and shows us we have chosen the right direction. It also motivates us to work hard on making Dying Light 2 our best game yet."
"I have personally made sure to take care of the affairs and future careers of the members of our Polish distribution department who will be leaving Techland. Severance packages they will receive are both above the industry and the Polish employment legislation standards. I would like to thank the whole team for the many years of great work together."
Palkia may no longer be available in Pokemon Go, but a new Legendary Pokemon is set to take its place soon. Starting March 1, the Pokemon Diamond mascot Dialga will begin appearing in Raid Battles around the world--but as usual, it'll only be around for a limited time.
As with most other Legendaries, to catch Dialga you'll first need to team up with other players at a Gym where a Dialga Raid is taking place and battle the Pokemon. If you manage to defeat Dialga, each player who participated in the Raid will receive a handful of Premier Balls and an opportunity to catch it.
Dialga is the only Steel/Dragon Pokemon in the series, which gives it numerous resistances to other types. Your best bet for battling it is to bring along Fighting and Ground Pokemon such as Machamp, Hariyama, and Groudon. Dialga will only appear in Raid Battles until March 28, giving you until the end of the month to catch one.
In other Pokemon Go news, Niantic recently introduced the Team Medallion to the app's in-game store. This item allows players to change their team allegiance once every 365 days. The developer has also rolled out a new AR photo mode, which is the only way to encounter the elusive Pokemon Smeargle.
Pokemon Go's next Community Day event is scheduled for March 23. This time, the featured Pokemon will be Treecko, one of the three starters from Ruby and Sapphire. Players will also be able to hatch Pokemon Eggs at a quarter of the distance they typically require during the event.
Apex Legends is full of little tricks the game doesn't tell you about--so much so that we compiled them into a guide. Even with a full rundown of things you should know that aren't super obvious, there are lots of best practices that experienced and effective Apex Legends players know about that are easy for others to miss. One such thing everybody should know about is the way to extend your glide distance during jumps at the start of Apex Legends matches, something often referred to as "wave gliding."
If you're not already using wave gliding, you absolutely should be. It's a trick that can help you extend your jumps by a few hundred meters, and make it possible to reach almost any area on the map from the drop ship. The trick is to balance the speed of your descent with the distance you want to cover: dropping at either too steep an angle or too gradual of one will keep you from getting those really long distances.
Wave gliding gets its name from the technique of alternating between gliding as far as you can and diving toward the ground below. When you glide basically flat toward your destination, the friction reduces your speed--which means your total glide distance is reduced as well. You can pick up more speed by diving, and while you lose a little distance because of the steep incline, you get more back from increasing your speed when you flatten out.
The good news is that balancing the dives and glides is pretty easy thanks to Apex Legends' HUD while dropping. On the left side of the screen, you'll see numbers that indicate your speed. Diving increases your speed significantly. The trick is to dive until your speed hits about 145, then level off and ride the burst until it falls to around 135. Dive again, pick up more speed, then level off again.
Using the wave glide technique is very useful for getting to those tough-to-reach places like Relay or Slum Lakes, and getting to those distant locations is a great way to get some high-quality loot while being less likely to run into other players before you're ready. If you want to avoid conflict right out of the gate and get to your preferred jump locations, this is the way to do it.
In one of the biggest contracts in sports history, slugger Bryce Harper today signed a 13-year, $330 million contract with the MLB's Philadelphia Phillies. Harper was previously announced as the cover star of Sony's MLB The Show 19, but because he was a free agent then, the cover was only a placeholder that showed Harper in a nondescript hoodie. Now that he's signed his record-breaking deal, Sony has released the official cover art showing Harper in his Phillies garb.
Harper's deal, which has yet to be officially confirmed by the Phillies and is pending a physical, also includes a no-trade clause and no opt-out clause, so we could continue to see Harper playing for the Phillies until 2031. In the deal, Harper makes an average of $24.4 million per season. While massive, it doesn't even crack the top ten of the MLB's highest annual salary list.
Under his new contract, Harper will make more than $150,000 per game and almost $45,000 every time he steps to the plate, according to numbers crunched by Darren Rovell.
Harper spent his entire professional career as the right fielder for the Washington Nationals before signing with the Phillies today. The new cover for MLB The Show 19 with Harper in a Phillies uniform is just fine, but his beard looks weird.
MLB The Show 19, which launches on March 26, will be available in a Standard Edition ($60 USD) and a Gone Yard Edition ($100) that is exclusive to GameStop and EB Games. It comes with a New Era baseball snap back cap, a copy of the game, in-game extras, and more. A $100 Digital Deluxe edition will also be available; some of its extras include an allotment of Stubs, custom avatars, and more. An MVP Edition ($70), meanwhile, includes a series of digital extras and a steelbook case if you're picking up the physical edition. Everyone who pre-orders any edition of MLB The Show 19 gets extra in-game digital content.
Capcom is bringing three classic Resident Evil games--Resident Evil HD Remaster, 0, and 4--to Nintendo Switch on May 20. All three are now available to pre-purchase through the Eshop, but as the digital store reveals, they're a bit pricier than you might expect.
All three Resident Evil games are listed on Switch's storefront for $30 / £30 apiece. Not only is that price tag surprising considering each game is several generations old by this point, it is $10 more than the titles cost on other platforms.
This certainly isn't the first time the Switch versions of some games have turned out to be more expensive than on other consoles; since the system launched, many publishers have charged slightly more for Switch games to offset the cost of manufacturing cartridges. Such was the case with Rime and LA Noire, among others.
What makes this instance feel especially egregious to fans, however, is that Resident Evil HD and Resident Evil 4 aren't receiving physical releases on the system; they'll only be available digitally. Switch owners will be able to purchase a physical copy of Resident Evil 0, and Capcom is selling a Resident Evil Origins Collection that packs in both 0 and the original for $60--although reportedly only 0 will be on a game card, with the other included as a download code.
Blizzard has started to outline its plans for the coming year in Hearthstone, including details on new Hall of Fame inclusions, its new approach to single-player content, and changes to quests and Arena. The Hearthstone Blog dubbed this the Year of the Dragon, and it will begin with the release of the first expansion of 2019.
As usual, the new year will bring several sets rotating out of Standard play, along with some hand-selected cards joining the Hall of Fame. Induction into this group means they'll no longer be playable in Standard, and it's usually reserved for cards that are especially powerful and potentially problematic going forward. This time the rotation includes some doozies.
The Druid card Naturalize, the Warlock card Doomguard, and the Paladin card Divine Favor are all being moved into the Hall of Fame. These are all mainstays that each class has had in regular use for years, but in each case Blizzard feels they overcompensate for class weaknesses in a way that hurts their class identity.
Two more shocking changes are to Baku the Mooneater and Genn Greymane, two cards that were introduced in The Witchwood. Ordinarily Blizzard would wait for cards from an expansion to rotate out on their own, but these two cards--which introduced powerful "Odd" and "Even" decks--have been too prevalent and risk overshadowing the new cards introduced this year. The fan community has been especially vocal about the adverse effect they've been having on the game. Gloom Stag, Black Cat, Glitter Moth, and Murkspark Eel are also joining the Hall of Fame, since each of them relied on the even/odd mechanic from Baku and Genn.
The blog goes on to explain that this year's single-player experience will be one continuous story, with more customization and decks. A free chapter will hit a month after the first expansion, followed by other chapters for 700 gold each, or $20 for the bundle. Completing all five chapters will net you a special card back and Golden Classic pack.
Other quality of life improvements include the ability to re-roll legendary quests, a random card back option, a smarter deck builder, and Arena wins counting toward earning your golden hero. Plus Arena itself will get a big change, as the draft pool will consist of a mixture of sets from throughout the game's lifespan. The first rotation will include the Basic, Classic, Curse of Naxxramas, Whispers of the Old Gods, Mean Streets of Gadgetzan, The Witchwood, and this year's first expansion.
Finally, as Hearthstone prepares to say goodbye to the current year, you can get a login reward. Logging on between March 25 and April 2 will get you one pack each from Journey to Un'Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne, and Kobolds & Catacombs. A special Tavern Brawl is also planned for that week. All of this suggests that the first expansion for Year of the Dragon will come sometime in April.
But as they say, the more things change, the more they stay the same, and that holds especially true for Fortnite. Just as in seasons past, Epic Games will be rolling out new challenges to complete every week in Season 8. Clear these and you'll be rewarded with Battle Stars, which in turn will level your Battle Pass up and unlock the new Season 8 skins and rewards.
On top of that, if you finish all of the challenges from a given week, you'll complete one of Fortnite's Discovery challenges--this season's equivalent of the Snowfall challenges from Season 7. Each Discovery challenge you complete will reward you with a special loading screen, which contains a clue pointing you to a free item hiding somewhere around the island.
Week 1's challenges are now live across all platforms, and if you manage to finish all of them, you'll unlock the loading screen pictured above. This one features a crew of pirates aboard the giant shipped docked at Lazy Lagoon, one of the new areas introduced this season. Look closely at the background, however, and you'll be able to spot a Battle Star atop one of the buildings on shore.
Lazy Lagoon can be found in the northern portion of the map, to the west of the giant volcano. Glide to the area at the start of a match and locate the building pictured in the loading screen. Make your way to the top of its tower and the Battle Star will appear, just as teased. Collect it and you'll level your Battle Pass up by one tier. We've marked its location on the map below, and you can see exactly where you need to go in the video at the top of this guide.
As in previous seasons, there are a couple of caveats you need to keep in mind before you can get this Battle Star. It won't appear on the island unless you've completed enough challenges and unlocked the aforementioned loading screen, so you can't simply go to the right area and expect to collect it unless you've put in all the necessary work.
Fortunately, thanks to the new Party Assist feature, which allows all players in a party to contribute progress toward challenges when enabled, it should be easier than ever to complete tasks in Season 8. Epic has even added a ping system copied from Apex Legends. You can read about all of the other changes the studio has made to the game in the full update 8.0 patch notes. The next group of March PlayStation Plus free games will be live in less than a week, which means it's your last chance to grab the freebies being offered in February. February's batch of free PlayStation Plus games will be the last to include PS3 and Vita games, so it'll be only PS4 titles offered from here on out. However, Sony did increase cloud storage for PS Plus members from 10GB to 100GB this month as a perk. And you'll still be able to play any PS3 and Vita games in your library as long as you're a PS Plus member.
While March has only two free games on its lineup for PS Plus members, they're two games you don't want to miss. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered and The Witness will replace February's offers on March 5 and be free to download for PS Plus members until April 1.
Here are the games to download now while they're free. Sony initially said the PS3 and Vita games would be available until March 8, but the PlayStation store indicates all offers will expire March 5. So if you see a game you really want, go ahead and grab it now.
The Division 2open beta will be playable soon, and for those who like to be prepared, pre-loading is now available across PC, Xbox One, and PS4. You can download the test to take part this weekend, from March 1-4. [Update: The beta is now live on all platforms. Whether you already downloaded the client or not, access is open to everyone. According to Ubisoft's website, servers will be online from now until Tuesday, March 5 at 1 AM PT / 4 AM ET / 9 AM GMT / 8 PM AET.]
This test will include three main missions that you can play on Normal and Hard mode: Grand Washington Hotel, Jefferson Trade Center, and Viewpoint Museum. The first two of those were present in the previous private betas, while the third is new to this test. It also includes five side missions, and once you've finished the Jefferson Trade Center you'll open up three level 30 characters to try out some endgame content. This beta also includes a Skirmish PvP map called Capitol Ruins, and two additional Settlement Projects.
You'll have more options when it comes to your character as compared to the closed betas as well. The level cap is going up to 8 for the open beta, and a new Chem Launcher skill will be available with Riot Foam and Explosive Vapor variants.
In case the beta gets you interested in the full game, Ubisoft recently detailed its roadmap for the first year of content. Those plans include a new stronghold, an eight-player raid, and three post-launch episodes coming in summer, fall, and winter. All of that content will be free for all players, but you can get early access to it with a Year 1 Pass. That will cost $40 and also get you special cosmetic items, eight Classified Assignments, and instant access to any new Specializations. The studio will also be selling cosmetics through an in-game shop.
Epic Games has released the next big update for Fortnite, which launches Season 8. The new season adds several gameplay tweaks, new map areas and weapons, and updates the battle royale game with a brand-new Battle Pass. To help you finish its numerous tasks--which offer more than 100 rewards, including new skins--Fortnite's new update now allows you to complete challenges with your friends.
To get some help with the Season 8 Battle Pass' daily and weekly challenges, enable Party Assist prior to jumping into a Fortnite match. Once you do, every party member in your group, including you, will be able able to contribute to the overall progress for the selected challenge. However, Party Assist will not rope in players who are added to groups to fill in empty spaces during matchmaking. Party Assist won't work in larger multiplayer modes, such as Team Rumble, either.
For further details on Party Assist, check out Season 8's patch notes. This update also kicks off the newest batch of challenges, Week 1 of which are now live. Snowfall challenges from last season have been replaced with Discovery challenges that task you with completing all of the objectives from a single week--a task that should be easier now that you can lean on friends to get things done.
As stated before, Season 8 adds numerous other adjustments to Fortnite. Perhaps the most notable are the changes to Fortnite island, which sees the introduction of a new locations, such as a volcano, Sunny Steps, and Lazy Lagoon. The volcano is especially dangerous, as it brings lava to Fortnite. Lava is bouncy but harmful to touch, and it will cause hot air to billow from certain vents which can launch players into the sky.
There's been some weapon chances as well. A new Pirate Cannon has been added that allows you to destroy structures from a distance or launch yourself across the map. The Chiller Grenade, on the other hand, has been vaulted as is no longer accessible for the time being. The grenade isn't the only one either. The Sneaky Snowman, X-4 Stormwing, Shopping Cart, and All Terrain Kart have all been vaulted too. Assault rifles are still available, but Epic has adjusted their drop rates so the high-tiered ones won't appear as often.
Fortnite is available for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Switch, and mobile devices.
