First Look At EA Games Featured At E3 2018 Press Conference

By GameSpot Staff on Jun 10, 2018 10:46 pm

Check out every game featured during the EA Play E3 livestream

EA kicked off E3 2018 with a fairly dense press conference that featured everything from sports sequels to mobile real-time strategy games, and finally a deeper look at Anthem, the next big game from famed RPG studio, BioWare.

Though there were only ten games on display, there was a lot of news associated with some of EA's bigger titles. We learned that Battlefield V will receive a post-launch battle royale mode, following in the footsteps of the industry at large in the wake of Fortnite's runaway success. The announcement was made that Madden 19 will be the first game in the series since Madden 08 to arrive on PC.

We were also clued into a lot of great announcements for Battlefront II fans, including the growing roster of heroes, and the tease of future content based on the Clone Wars time period. Not one to make a mere solo Star Wars announcement, EA also had Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella reveal the name of his studio's upcoming game: Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. We don't yet know a ton about the game, but we do know the time it's set and what type of character you'll be playing, along with the fact that you'll use a lightsaber.

The show wrapped with a panel of BioWare developers talking about their vision for Anthem, and EA also announced the game's release date: February 22, 2019.

There were more exciting games shown during the presentation, so check out the rest of this gallery for a look at what else EA had to show.

Anthem

Anthem is easily BioWare's most ambitious title. Focusing on the exploits of heavily armored freelancers on a hostile alien planet, you'll work together with other players online to take on dangerous missions while exploring the furthest reaches of the world. While this sounds a lot like Destiny, BioWare's approach to the concept of the shared-world shooter looks like an interesting change of pace from other games of the genre, and we can't wait to see more.

Command and Conquer: Rivals

Every E3 2018 PC Game Coming This Year: Battlefield 5, Hitman 2

By GameSpot Staff on Jun 10, 2018 04:42 am

PC Games Releasing In 2018

E3 2018 is upon us, and that means news on countless new games that are on the way, both in the short- and long-term. While much of the focus on the annual conference centers around the console manufacturers' respective media briefings, that doesn't mean that PC games aren't also a big part of the show.

Case in point, there are a ton of games for computer that are being featured at E3 for you to look forward to before the end of the year. That includes many of the big multiplatform games, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Battlefield V. While those are the latest titles in long-running series, they feature some really significant changes this year.

Every E3 2018 Xbox One Game Coming In 2018: Anthem, Battlefield 5, Kingdom Hearts 3

By GameSpot Staff on Jun 10, 2018 04:23 am

E3 2018 is upon us, and that means announcements on countless new games are on the way, both in the short- and long-term. Last year, Xbox primarily used E3 as a platform to announce the Xbox One X. The console is undoubtedly a powerhouse, but gamers have been wondering which games they'll be able to play on Xbox's newest piece of hardware. No one has to wonder anymore! Already this has proven to be an incredible E3 with quite a few game announcements, and plenty of those games are coming to Xbox One.

Most of them are big multiplatform games, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Battlefield V. Players were already expecting to see these blockbuster titles going into E3, but many of these games are differentiating themselves from their predecessors by making significant changes to their tried-and-true formulas. The Xbox is also getting some excellent titles from smaller franchises, such as Unravel 2 and Team Sonic Racing.

To help you keep track of everything coming out over the next six months and what exactly each game has to offer, we've compiled all the biggest games expected to launch on the Xbox One this year. Click ahead to see the full list, and be sure to check back often as we update this gallery with more titles throughout E3.

Let us know which Xbox One game you're most looking forward to playing in the comments section.

E3 2018: Every PC Game Coming In 2019 And Beyond -- Anthem, Crackdown 3

By GameSpot Staff on Jun 10, 2018 02:31 am

PC Games Releasing In 2019 And Beyond

2018 is not even half over, so there are still a lot of PC games still to come before 2019. But next year is sure to bring a steady supply of games for the platform, a number of which are being featured at E3 2018.

Some of these games are things we've heard about for the first time just prior to the big convention, such as Rage 2 and Dead or Alive 6. Others are releases of games that have been anticipated for quite some time, as is the case with BioWare's new IP, Anthem, which offers a spin on the cooperative shooter style popularized by Destiny.

Others still are coming in 2019 due to delays, as is the case with Crackdown 3. The open-world action game has been delayed numerous times but was expected out on both PC and Xbox One in 2018. Instead, Microsoft announced just ahead of E3 that it won't be coming until 2019.

More games and release dates are sure to be announced during the course of the show, and we'll update this story with them as they're revealed. One place we might see those is during the PC Gaming Show on Monday, June 11; while not a traditional press conference like that of Microsoft, it's expected that some new games coming to the platform will be shown off there for the first time.

Let us know in the comments below which of these games you're looking forward to most, as well as what you're still hoping is announced.

Anthem

Anthem is easily BioWare's most ambitious title. Focusing on the exploits of heavily armored freelancers on a hostile alien planet, you'll work together with other players online to take on dangerous missions while exploring the furthest reaches of the world. While this sounds a lot like Destiny, BioWare's approach to the concept of the shared-world shooter looks like an interesting change of pace from other games of the genre.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC | Release Date: February 22, 2019

Beyond Good & Evil 2

We saw a teaser of Ubisoft's spunky new space adventure, Beyond Good & Evil 2, at E3 last year. What we know now is that it will be a prequel to the 2003 game and that players can choose a male or female character and explore different planets.

Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC (Expected) | Release Date: TBA

Crackdown 3

Crackdown 3 is one of Microsoft's biggest upcoming Xbox One exclusives. The game utilizes cloud-based server technology for its multiplayer mode, which allows for environmental destruction on a large scale. It retains the gameplay of its predecessors, featuring a number of different organizations controlling the city of New Providence that you'll need to take down by killing their kingpins, destroying their bases, and destabilizing their infrastructures.

Platforms: Xbox One, PC | Release Date: TBA 2019

Cyberpunk 2077

The next game from the creators of The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, is set in a dystopian, sci-fi future world. We haven't heard much about the game in years, but that's potentially set to change in a big way at E3 2018.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC (expected) | Release Date: TBA

Dead or Alive 6

Kasumi, Hayate, Helena, and plenty of other familiar faces return to the arena in Dead or Alive 6. This fighting game will continue to utilize the franchise's staple complexity when it comes to combos and counters, while upping the realism of its visuals. The Waiting Is The Hardest Part

A lot of the games shown at E3 2018 this week are coming out this year, but not all of them. As Tom Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part. Some of the games we saw at E3 this week are due out in 2019 or later, and we're rounding them up in this gallery.

Every Nintendo Switch And 3DS Game From E3 Coming In 2018

By GameSpot Staff on Jun 10, 2018 01:30 am

E3 2018 is finally underway, and along with revealing a ton of new games, it's painted a much clearer picture of what lies ahead throughout the rest of the year and beyond. We may be partway through 2018 already, but the latter half of the year is shaping up to be a busy one, with a number of major titles in store for each platform.

Nintendo has said Switch will be the focal point of its E3 showing, and we've already seen a number of big and intriguing titles coming to hybrid console this year. On top of notable third-party releases like Mega Man 11 and Team Sonic Racing, Switch will play host to some exciting exclusives this year, from Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate to Square Enix's beautiful, retro-inspired RPG, Octopath Traveler.

And that's nothing to say of Nintendo's first-party offerings for the console. Along with Mario Tennis Aces and a port of the Wii U gem Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Switch owners have a couple of marquee releases to look forward to this holiday season, including Super Smash Bros. and Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee.

But while Switch may be the star of Nintendo's plans, the company still has some notable games on the way for 3DS this year. WarioWare Gold arrives in early August and contains the largest collection of microgames in the series to date, while the GameCube classic Luigi's Mansion is getting a second lease on life on the dual-screen handheld.

In the gallery above, you can see some of the biggest games from E3 that are coming to Switch and 3DS this year. For a look at what's in store for other platforms, be sure to check out our galleries of the biggest E3 games on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

After taking a break from Castlevania-style games, former series producer Koji Igarashi has returned with his latest iteration of the formula--though, this time without franchise owners Konami. With Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Igarashi promises an experience much like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which is something longtime fans are eager to experience.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS Vita | Release Date: 2018

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is an upcoming Switch port of the Wii U puzzler of the same name. In addition to the content from the original release, the Switch port includes new levels themed around Super Mario Odyssey, as well as a two-player co-op mode.

Platforms: Switch | Release Date: July 13

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

One of gaming's most recognizable mascots was remastered last year in the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. This June, the remaster bundle--which contains the original Crash Bandicoot, as well as sequels Cortex Strikes Back and Warped--is coming to Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Platforms: PS4 (already available), Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch | Release Date: June 29

FIFA 19

FIFA is consistently one of the biggest releases of the year, and in a year where a World Cup will attract many new fans to the sport, FIFA 19 will likely be no different. The game will boast the UEFA Champions League license after primary rivals PES and Konami lost the rights to all UEFA club competitions earlier this year. The news means FIFA has a near monopoly over the world's major soccer licenses, including the 2018 World Cup, which came to FIFA 18 just recently.

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch | Release Date: September 28

Mario Tennis Aces

Ghostbusters, Back To The Future, And More Crazy Cartoons Based On Movies

By Chris E. Hayner on Jun 09, 2018 01:47 am

When it comes to figuring out how successful a movie was with audiences, the box office returns are normally a pretty good thing to research. However, once upon a time, there was another way to figure out how big of an impact your film had.

During the 1980s and 1990s, a slew of movies were adapted into cartoons to further appeal to kids. After all, if your movie becomes a cartoon, you can make more toys to sell, and more toys equals more money. And while most of the animated series made perfect sense--of course Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures made a great cartoon--others were a bit questionable. The very idea of a Rambo cartoon is puzzling.

GameSpot dug back through cartoon history to dig up the best and craziest cartoons based on old movies for your viewing pleasure. How many of these did you watch? And what did we miss when it comes to your favorites? Sound off in the comments below!

1. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1995-2000)

You might not remember it, but Ace Ventura: Pet Detective ran for three seasons over five years. After two years on CBS, it took a nearly two-year break before jumping to Nickelodeon for its final 15 episodes. Surprisingly, there was also a computer game based on the cartoon--but not on the movie.

2. The Real Ghostbusters (1986-1991)

This is the gold standard of cartoons adapted from movies. The Real Ghostbusters--which also became Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters for a time--ran for seven seasons and turned the movies into an even more kid-friendly adventure. It also led to a massive toy line.

3. Extreme Ghostbusters (1997)

This sequel to The Real Ghostbusters introduces a new crop of heroes, with Egon returning as the lone original. Taking advantage of the late-'90s obsession with the word "extreme," this new Ghostbusters was anything but. However, it was a fun, short-lived way to expand the Ghostbusters animated universe.

4. Back to the Future (1991-1992)

While Back to the Future Part III was a pretty definitive end for the franchise, that didn't stop them from making a cartoon, following Marty, Doc, Doc's Family, and Einstein the dog. Naturally, Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox did not return to voice their characters, though the former did appear in live-action segments at the beginning and end of each episode. What may surprise you, though, is both Mary Steenburgen (Clara Clayton Brown) and Thomas F. Wilson (Biff Tannen) did reprise their roles for the animated series.

5. Clerks: The Animated Series (2000)

This one is weird for a number of reasons. Based on the Kevin Smith movie, this was not a cartoon for children. It saw the return of practically the entire Clerks cast, plus the addition of Alec Baldwin as rich weirdo Leonardo Leonardo. It was also canceled after two episodes by ABC. However, six episodes were produced and eventually released on DVD.

6. Beetlejuice (1989-1991)

If you watch Tim Burton's Beetlejuice movie, which can be pretty graphic, it may be surprising that they turned it into a children's cartoon. That said, the animated Beetlejuice series ran for four seasons and even got its own line of toys. As you can probably guess, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder did not return to voice their characters.

7. The Karate Kid (1989)

Instead of a fighting tournament, The Karate Kid sends Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi on an adventure around the world to find a magical shrine, with a new sidekick joining their quest. The cartoon is such an insane departure from the movies, that it should come as no surprise it only lasted a single season. Thank goodness for Cobra Kai.

8. The Mummy: The Animated Series (2001-2003)

While based on Brendan Fraser's The Mummy movie, this cartoon centers on the 14-year-old son of the main characters, as their family is chased around the world by Imhotep.

9. Dumb & Dumber (1995-1996)

Yet another Jim Carrey movie adapted into an animated series. It follows the film, continuing the adventures of Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas as they continued to be incredibly stupid. Now, though, they have the purple beaver as a sidekick. Why not?

10. Jumanji (1996-1999)

Though based on the original movie, the Jumanji animated series has a lot in common with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. In this cartoon, two kids are sucked into the game's jungle on each turn and have to solve clues to go back home. While there, they befriend Alan Parrish--played by Robin Williams in the movie--and explore the wild with him.

11. Police Academy: The Animated Series (1988-1989)

This is another bizarre example. The original Police Academy film was rated R by the MPAA. The sequels that followed ranged from PG-13 to PG, but basing a cartoon for children on a Rated-R movie is a risky bet--though it's one that happened a few times in the '80s. It worked well enough to earn the series 65 episodes and an extensive line of toys, though. It should be noted that the Zed action figure dropped his pants, if you were wondering how classy these toys were.

12. RoboCop: The Animated Series (1988)

RoboCop is an incredibly graphic and vulgar film, filled with violence. Yet, somehow, it got two cartoons. The first only ran for 12 episodes, but its very existence is remarkable. Naturally, it wasn't as violent as the movie.

13. RoboCop: Alpha Command (1998-1999)

The second RoboCop cartoon was far more successful, with a higher-quality animation style earning it 40 episodes before it was canceled.

14. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures (1990-1991)

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure lends itself perfectly to an animated series and this cartoon is a lot of fun. However, what's most notable about it is the cast. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter voiced their characters in the first season. The second season saw the duo replaced by two actors that were also going to star in a live-action adaptation that was canceled after seven episodes. The animated series was then dropped.

15. The Mask Animated Series (1995-1997)

The last cartoon based on a Jim Carrey movie on this list but perhaps the craziest. This series crossed over with the Ace Ventura cartoon, creating some kind of shared Carrey universe. In the crossover, the green mask gets attached to Ace Ventura's butt. That is not a joke.

Warner Bros. TV

16. Men in Black

Though based on the Men in Black film, the animated series takes place in an alternate timeline where Agent K doesn't retire and have his memory wiped. He and Agent J are joined by Agent L, who was introduced at the end of the first movie, as they fought aliens invading the planet.

17. Rambo: The Force of Freedom (1986)

As you've seen thus far, making cartoons out of adult movies was commonplace in the 1980s. However, even this is taking things to the extreme. First Blood and Rambo: First Blood Part II are intense and unsettling action movies about a Vietnam War veteran that goes on killing sprees. Yet somehow, they were adapted into an animated series that saw Rambo lead a team of heroes around the world to fight an evil organization known as S.A.V.A.G.E. And in case you're wondering what that's short for, it's Specialist-Administrators of Vengeance, Anarchy, and Global Extortion.

18. Godzilla: The Series (1998-2000)

If the world needed anything, it's a cartoon based on the 1998 Godzilla movie starring Matthew Broderick, right? In this animated series, the giant lizard teams with Broderick's character and a group of environmental crusaders (and a robot, of course) in a fight against other mutant monsters. Somehow it lasted two seasons.

19. The Oz Kids (1996-1997)

What happens when The Wizard of Oz and Muppet Babies gets mashed up? The Oz Kids! In the series, Dorothy is a mom, and it's her two kids, along with Toto Jr., that go on adventures to Oz. Once there, they meet up with the kids of the Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and more. If you're wondering how the Scarecrow and Tin Man managed to have kids, you are not alone.

20. The Robonic Stooges (1977-1978)

Imagine a world where the Three Stooges are so popular that they get a cartoon set in the future, where they are bionic superheroes. It exists, and it's as crazy as it sounds. Unfortunately, by the time the show was in production, the original Stooges had died, leading to them being voiced by other actors.

21. Street Fighter (1995-1997)

This peculiar adaptation is based on a mix of the arcade game and the live-action movie. In it, Col. William F. Guile leads his team of Street Fighters around the world as they work undercover to defeat M. Bison and his criminal empire the only way they know how--through martial arts.

22. Alienators: Evolution Continues (2001-2002)

Evolution, starring David Duchovny, Seann William Scott, and Julianne Moore, was not a box office hit or a critical darling. And yet, somehow, it was turned into a cartoon. Of course, with a name like, Alienators: Evolution Continues, the animated series wasn't very obvious about its status as a sequel to the film. However, in the United Kingdom, it was known as Evolution: The Animated Series.
