A Bob Marley Biopic Is Sparking Up At Transformers Studio, With His Son Producing

By Eddie Makuch on Jun 07, 2018 12:14 am

A Bob Marley biopic is on the way from Paramount Pictures and his son Ziggy Marley. Hollywood news site Deadline reported that the film is happening, but no other details about it are available.

Bob Marley is a legend in the music world, having written reggae classics like "No Woman, No Cry," "Jammin," "Redemption Song," and so many more. He died in 1981 at the age of 36 from cancer.

His son Ziggy is an accomplished singer-songwriter, too, having won eight total Grammy awards. He also produced movies about his father including Bob Marley Legend Remixed and Bob Marley & The Wailers: Easy Skanking in Boston '78.

There is no word yet on who may play Bob Marley in the biopic, but it is sure to be a highly sought-after role. According to Variety, the biopic is only in the early stages of development; no director or writers have been hired.

Though he died young, Bob Marley left behind a lasting legacy in part for the work he did to promote and popularize Rastafarianism, while his songs about slavery have been impactful and will never be forgotten.

Dave Bautista's "Dream Role" Is To Play Gears Of War Movie's Marcus Fenix

By Veronica Larkin on Jun 07, 2018 12:01 am

Wrestler turned movie star Dave Bautista visited GameSpot Universe to do a Q&A with some of his fans on Twitter to discuss his career as well as his upcoming film, Hotel Artemis. He also revealed his desire to play Marcus Fenix in Universal's upcoming Gears of War film. Bautista has appeared in many sci-fi, fantasy, and action roles recently, perhaps most famously as the tough and lovable Drax in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

Happy and humble as usual, Bautista was first asked what his ideal acting job would be. Funny enough, the user who wrote the question also wrote "I'm hoping they ask you to play Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War movie!" to which Bautista replied, "I've been pursuing Gears of War for years now. I believe it's in the hands of Universal Studios. And I've been knocking on their door and badgering them and they are so sick of me (laughs), phoning in and asking them where they are with that project. But, yes, Marcus Fenix is absolutely a dream role for me. I want that role."

The Gears of War movie, which has been in the works for a few years now, got the official go-ahead from Universal after acquiring screen-writer Shane Salerno, who is also credited with writing scripts for Shaft and Armageddon and being on the writing team for James Cameron's Avatar. Fans have been waiting for this film for a long time and it seems that many people are enthusiastic about the idea of Bautista as Marcus Fenix.

In discussing his new role as Everest in Hotel Artemis, Bautista describes the character as coming from a violent background and says that he is "a product of his environment but that's not the person he wants to be. He actually wants to help people, he wants to heal people and that's why he takes such pride in being a healthcare professional." This comment references a snippet from the trailer where the character points to his ID and proclaims proudly, "This means I'm a healthcare professional." He goes on to discuss the intricacies of the role in more depth and seems very excited about the role and about the film as a whole. Bautista also discussed his transition from WWE into acting, which was apparently an entirely unexpected move for him but one he was happy to make. He says that he "caught the bug" and that he only ever aspired to be a working actor.

Bautista seems to be enthusiastic about his past and upcoming roles and hopefully we'll hear from Universal soon on whether Bautista will actually play Marcus Fenix in its Gears of War movie. Hotel Artemis will be in theaters June 8.

Pokemon Let's Go, Pikachu And Let's Go, Eevee Must Have Subscription for Online Play

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 07, 2018 12:00 am

Like many traditional games in the series, Nintendo Switch's upcoming Pokemon RPGs--Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee--will feature online play. However, there have been conflicting reports over whether or not players would need to subscribe to Nintendo's premium online service to take advantage of those features. The Pokemon Company has now confirmed that will indeed be the case.

In a statement shared with GameSpot, The Pokemon Company elaborated more about the online features that will be available in the Let's Go titles and confirmed players will need to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription in order to play the games online. The statement reads:

"Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu and Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee will have online play functionality. Battling and trading with other players over the Internet or locally will be available in these games. However, the feature set will be somewhat simplified in comparison to previous games in that there is no GTS, Wonder Trade, or Battle Spot (Rating Battle, Free Battle, and Online Competition, etc.) for example. Further details will be revealed at a later date. An active membership for the Nintendo Switch Online service, which is scheduled to begin in September of this year, will be required to access these features."

As mentioned above, Switch's paid online service is scheduled to launch sometime in September. Subscriptions will be available for one month (US $4 / £3.49 / AU $6), three months (US $8 / £7 / AU $12), and 12 months (US $20 / £18 / AU $30). Nintendo will also offer a $35 / £31.49 / AU $55 family plan that allows eight Nintendo account holders to share a single membership.

In addition to online play, the Nintendo Switch Online service offers subscribers cloud saves. Members will also have access to a library of classic NES games, which will also feature added online play. 20 NES games will be available when the service launches, with additional titles being added "regularly."

Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee launch for Switch on November 16. The games are based on Pokemon Yellow and take place in the classic Kanto region. They also feature integration with Pokemon Go; players can catch wild Pokemon in the Switch games by simulating throwing a Poke Ball, and they can transfer monsters they've captured in the mobile game over to the Let's Go titles. You can read more about the titles in our roundup of everything we know about Pokemon Let's Go.

PUBG's Final Sanhok Map Test Extended, Now Ends Thursday

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 06, 2018 11:51 pm

If you've yet to participate in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' latest Sanhok test, you now have another opportunity to try the tropical map out before it arrives in the live game. The test was originally scheduled to end on June 4, but developer PUBG Corp. has extended it to June 7.

On Twitter, PUBG Corp. announced that the Sanhok test is now slated to run until Thursday at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 3 PM BST. As before, it's open to all players who own PUBG on PC. To participate, you'll need to download the Experimental Server client from your Steam library.

This marks the fourth and likely final test PUBG Corp. is holding for the map, which was originally known by the codename Savage. According to the developer, the map will be added to the live game on PC by the end of June "if everything goes according to schedule."

Sanhok has undergone a few notable changes since it first appeared on the Experimental Test Server back in April. In particular, PUBG Corp. recently expanded the map with four new areas, and several existing areas were tweaked with new names and "various improvements."

PUBG Corp. still hasn't announced when Sanhok will be added to the live game, although the developer did outline its plans to introduce new vehicles and a weapon for it "sometime in the month after the map officially launches." One of these is the Tukshai, a drivable three-wheeled vehicle that will be exclusive to Sanhok. PUBG Corp. shared more of its plans for future PUBG updates on Steam.

New Battlefront 2 Update Adds Alden Ehrenreich's Solo And Donald Glover's Lando

By Eddie Makuch on Jun 06, 2018 11:50 pm

Star Wars: Battlefront II is adding even more Han Solo content, including new outfits that let you play as Alden Ehrenreich's Solo and Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian from Solo: A Star Wars Story.

All the new content rolls out beginning on June 12. In addition to the outfits, a new multiplayer map set on the planet Kessel--the site of the iconic 12-parsec Kessel Run--is being added to the hopper. The map supports Blast, Hero Showdown, Heroes vs. Villains, and the new Extraction mode. Extraction is an asymmetrical mode where teams fight to steal loot and return it to their base.

No Caption Provided

Also coming to Battlefront II on June 12 is Lando's Millennium Falcon before Han won it from him. The ship is faster and more agile than Han's, but it's not as strong because Han hadn't made his modifications for it yet. You can get the ship by spending credits, which you unlock via gameplay. The new cosmetic options are for Ehrenreich's Solo and Glover's Calrissian, as well as Chewbacca wearing goggles, all of which are based on how they appear in Solo. You can buy these with credits or crystals, the latter currency of which you can buy with real money.

The new update will also change the hologram-style look for the spawn screen and the end-of-round MVP screen in Battlefront II. The new look will be more in line with the main menu, which itself had the hologram look removed back in May. Additionally, developer DICE is adding the ability to more closely inspect character models by way of rotating, panning, and zooming.

Also new for Battlefront II with the update is a change to the Jetpack Cargo mode that adds a six-minute timer. Additionally, the UI is updated and will now display the score and time remaining. The map itself has also been changed, and you will now select a weapon to use instead of a character upon respawn.

There will also be general bug fixes, tweaks, and improvements in the June 12 update. You can see a full rundown of these on the Battlefront II website.

Looking ahead, EA further teased that it will share more details on "what's next" for Battlefront II during the EA Play briefing at E3 2018 on June 9. The new Extraction mode on the planet Kessel will be shown for the first time during the event.

This is just the latest wave of Han Solo content for Battlefront II, as DICE already released an update that added content based on the scoundrel's original trilogy days with Harrison Ford.

Sony Announcing New PS4 Games Before E3 2018

By Jeremy Winslow on Jun 06, 2018 11:33 pm

Update: The first of Sony's reveals has happened, and it's for an unexpected new Tetris game from the creator of Rez and Lumines. It's called Tetris Effect and is headed to PS4 with optional PSVR support. Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming announcements. The original story follows.

E3 2018 starts in a little under a week, and ahead of the massive showcase, Sony has released an announcement schedule on the PlayStation Blog leading up to its press conference on Monday, June 11. Starting Wednesday, June 6, Sony plans to announce three new games, a release date for an upcoming game (more than likely a PlayStation 4 exclusive), and details of "An Eagerly Anticipated Game [Coming] to PS VR," each being offered once a day for the next five days, effectively concluding on Sunday, June 10. From Wednesday to Sunday, each announcement will be held at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET (4 PM BST), as we join Sony for its countdown to E3 2018.

It's difficult to say what those three new games could be, as a few of Sony's studios are already working on named projects: Bend Studio is working on Days Gone, Japan Studio is supposedly working on Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, London Studio is working on Blood & Truth, Media Molecule is working on Dreams, Naughty Dog is working on The Last of Us Part II, and Sucker Punch is working on Ghost of Tsushima.

However, in the past four or so years, Sony has opened four new studios: PixelOpus, established in 2014; Manchester Studio, established in 2015; ForwardWorks, established in 2016; and San Mateo Studio, also established in 2016. PixelOpus is currently working on Concrete Genie, which is slated for a 2018 release, but there's no official confirmation of what the other studios are working on, so Sony could have these three studios announce their projects.

Sony's E3 2018 press conference is Monday, June 11 at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET (2 AM BST / 11 AM on June 12). Be sure to check our E3 2018 page for coverage of all the latest games, including interviews, previews, trailers, and more.

Peter Jackson Clears Up Lord Of The Rings TV Show Rumor

By Chris E. Hayner on Jun 06, 2018 11:24 pm

As Amazon continues to develop a Lord of the Rings TV series for its Prime Video streaming service, not a lot is known about the project. However, it was rumored that someone very familiar with the franchise was getting involved.

It was previously reported that Peter Jackson--who directed the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films--was one of the people Amazon was looking to as a possible writer, director, or showrunner on the series. Jackson, on the other hand, says that is definitely not the case.

Speaking to French outlet Allocine (via The Playlist), Jackson confirms he has nothing to do with Amazon's show. "I'm not involved at all in the Lord of the Rings series," he says. "I understand how my name could come up, but there is nothing happening with me on this project."

It doesn't get any more clear than that. While it's unknown who Amazon is looking at to fill the creative roles on their Lord of the Rings show, it's definitely not Peter Jackson. It's possible the streamer may have approached him at some point, but the story goes no further.

Another rumor the producer of the upcoming Mortal Engines is dispelling is the notion that he may be lining up a comic book movie to direct. "That's not true. I had no discussions about that," he says. "I'm not a fan of comics, I've never read any, so I'm not particularly interested in adapting one for cinema. That's not true at all."

Truth be told, that's probably a great idea. There are so many comic book adaptations happening every year now. Does the world need one from someone who has zero interest in comic books as a whole?

By Chris Reed on Jun 06, 2018 10:26 pm

If you thought Lara Croft was the Tomb Raider in the two previous games in the series, you were apparently mistaken. When Shadow of the Tomb Raider releases on September 14 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the developer says, we will finally experience the "defining moment as she becomes the Tomb Raider." This rebooted series has been terrific, though, so let's hope Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a fitting end to the beginning of Lara Croft's story.

Let's say you're ready to pre-order Shadow of the Tomb Raider. You'll probably want to know about the pre-order bonuses, special editions, where you can buy it, and how much it will cost. Below, you'll find all the information you need to make an educated purchasing decision.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Pre-Order Bonuses Revealed For PS4 And Xbox One

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 06, 2018 10:25 pm

Rockstar has shared a few more details about Red Dead Redemption 2 ahead of E3 2018. In addition to announcing Special and Ultimate editions of the game, the developer has revealed the pre-order bonuses players will receive for reserving the title ahead of its release. Here's what you can receive.

Everyone who pre-orders a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 will get a pair of DLC "enhancements" for the story mode. First is the War Horse, which Rockstar says has "greater courage and stamina than the average steed." In addition to that, players will receive an Outlaw Survival Kit, which comes with an assortment of helpful items to replenish health, Dead Eye, and more.

Those who pre-order the game digitally from the PlayStation or Xbox Stores will get an additional assortment of bonuses. That includes an exclusive treasure map that helps locate hidden treasure in story mode, as well as enough in-game money to purchase "a weapon, some food, a handful of useful items, and ammunition." However, players will need to reserve the game by July 31 in order to get the treasure map.

Finally, everyone who pre-orders the title digitally will get a GTA$ bonus for Grand Theft Auto V's online mode. The amount of money you'll receive depends on which edition of the game you pre-order. Those who reserve it on PS4 will have their GTA$ deposited immediately into their GTA Online Maze Bank account, while Xbox One players will have to download the bonus from the Microsoft Store. You can see the amount you'll get for each version below.

  • Standard edition -- $500,000
  • Special edition -- $1,000,000
  • Ultimate edition -- $2,000,000

Red Dead Redemption 2 launches for PS4 and Xbox One on October 26. Despite being postponed several times already, Rockstar's parent company Take-Two asserts that the game won't be delayed again. We'll learn more about the anticipated title very soon at E3, but in the meantime, you can catch up on everything we know about Red Dead Redemption 2.

Hitman 2 Leaks Ahead Of E3 2018

By Eddie Makuch on Jun 06, 2018 10:22 pm

[UPDATE 2] Another teaser has landed, potentially showing more clues about an assassination target named Sierra Knox.

[UPDATE] A new teaser has arrived, and it may contain more clues about Hitman 2. Take a look for yourself and sound off in the comments.

The original story is below.

There are now a few reasons to believe a new Hitman game may be on the way. The official Hitman account sent out a cryptic tweet today that points to some kind of reveal on June 7, which is the same day that publisher Warner Bros. is holding a pre-E3 2018 reveal event.

A tweet from the WB Games account shows a race car with the brand "Hamsun" on it; that could be a reference to the fictitious oil company referenced in Hitman Season 1. A more direct indication that Hitman 2 is coming is that a logo for Hitman 2 was found on WB's official website. So yeah.

The Hitman series was created and continues to be developed by IO Interactive, which was owned by Square Enix before the Japanese company sold it off. As part of the sale, IO Interactive kept the rights to the Hitman franchise. Given how well the game was received and the profile of the brand overall, it's no surprise that another big studio would come along to work with IO on more games.

IO previously talked about three seasons' worth of content for Hitman, and the studio continued to work on new Hitman content even amid the sale process.

For now, this is just a rumour, even if it's a believable-sounding one. You can check out GameSpot's E3 2018 rumour roundup to find out more about what's rumoured ahead of the big show.

Destiny 2 Forsaken DLC: 5 Biggest Changes

By Alessandro Fillari on Jun 06, 2018 10:11 pm

Just a week before E3 2018, Bungie revealed new information about the upcoming expansion Forsaken for Destiny 2. Set for release on September 4, and available for pre-order now, it looks to channel the same rejuvenative energy that the original Destiny's The Taken King DLC offered--which overhauled leveling and loot mechanics. During their livestream, the developers stated that it's the largest Destiny expansion to date, there was certainly a lot of important details to parse through.

Along with a number of major quality-of-life updates, such as improvements to the user-interface, bulk shader deletion, collection menus to keep track of all gear items in-game, and increased vault space--there's now a greater focus on making sure all the upgrades to your guardians matter in the long-run. We singled out the five biggest changes coming to Destiny 2 this year, and what it means for returning players.

New Story And Our Return To The Reef

No Caption Provided

Described as a Western-revenge storyline, the main story of the Forsaken expansion brings players back to The Reef to fight against a new threat. After a mass prison-break, the Guardians will team up with Cayde-6 as he hunts down the rogue Fallen faction known as the Skorn--who look to be using a number of makeshift weapons and items, which they scavenged overtime. The Skorn are also led by a Baron who evidently led the breakout.

During the expansion, Guardians will explore the new Reef location known as the The Tangled Shore. The Reef was a location from the original game which, aside from some story missions and a home space, was underutilized. In Destiny 2, the returning location is much more fleshed out, taking place across a cluster of asteroid and debris floating in space, where you can take on a number of story missions and side-events. Eventually, you'll venture off to other planets and locations as you push back the Skorn, and take out their leader.

Rebalanced Weapons And Gear

Over the last year, Bungie stated that they've received feedback from fans regarding the current kinetic, energy, and power weapon system--which many felt somewhat limited players options. In the upcoming expansion, players will no longer be limited to three distinct weapon-classes, and you'll now be able to equip any weapon in any slot you wish (regardless of their type or makeup). In addition to this, the current masterwork system, where players can upgrade and essentially prestige specific weapons, will also see an upgrade. In Forsaken, players will be able to strengthen masterwork weapons, and even add in new mods for their favorite gear--placing in new perks and special buffs.

Gambit: The New Competitive Mode

No Caption Provided

Teased for the last few weeks, Bungie stated that Forsaken would have an all-new gametype not seen an online shooter before. During the livestream they revealed the Gambit mode, which blends together standard PvE and competitive mulitplayer gameplay. Pitting two teams of four against one another in horde-style scenarios, they'll have to fight off waves of enemies and monsters as they acquire more resources for their team. Eventually, they'll be able to place their acquired resources into a designated bank. While this will score the team some points, it will also send special enemies towards the other side, increasing the challenge on the opposing team's side.

As the game because more hectic over the course of the match, the team with the most resources can choose to send one member of their team to the enemy team's area, where they can go on the offensive for a limited time. While this incorporates many concepts and features that are commonplace in Destiny 2, the Gambit mode looks like one of the more interesting takes on multiplayer gameplay, which can offer a nice change of pace from the standard Crucible and Iron Banner game-modes.

New Weapon Type And Super Moves

Much like The Taken King expansion from Destiny 1, the Forsaken expansion will also add in new super moves for Guardians, along with a brand new weapon type not seen in the game before. During the livestream, we got a first look at the new bow weapon, which aims to offer a far more precise and tactical approach to gameplay. While they're slower and less reliable in close-quarters engagements, they make up for that by allowing for quick and quiet kills at a distance, while also offering some unusual buffs--such as electrifying nearby surfaces that shock enemies.

The three Guardian classes will also see a set of new skills and powers for their unique sub-classes. For instance, the Titan will be able to summon a large hammer made of solar energy to use as a melee weapon, while the Warlock's voidwalker class can use new teleporting moves to dash across the battle and field and unleash a large blast of void energy. While it's unclear how these new skills will work or how they can be acquired, it does look to offer some exciting new ways to play the familiar classes.

Dreaming City: The New Raid

No Caption Provided

It's finally happening. After the previous two expansions, players will finally be able to move on from the Leviathan Dreadnought raid and take on an entirely new raid. Taking place in the Dreaming City--the homeland of the Awoken race--Guardians will be able to explore a new free-roam area where they can take on the Raid mission, along with some other side-activities. Described as a mix between the Vault of Glass and the Leviathan raid, the makeup of the Dreaming City raid will change over time with new updates and weekly events. Many of the challenges of the raid follow a similar set-up to previous missions, such as puzzle solving, platforming challenges, and other combat encounters--but the developers stated that there will be more boss encounters and variety to be had in this Raid compared to the previous ones.

Fortnite Coming To Nintendo Switch, According To Ratings Board

By Oscar Dayus on Jun 06, 2018 10:08 pm

A version of Epic's smash hit Fortnite may be coming to Nintendo Switch, as previously rumored. The game is already available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and iOS (with an Android version coming this summer), and now it's been rated for Switch by the Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC). Ratings board listings are not official announcements, but they're often a reliable source of information about new, unconfirmed game releases.

The rating was published recently, on June 1, though this doesn't necessarily mean the port will launch imminently. An Epic Games representative told GameSpot the publisher had no comment to make regarding the rumors, as is to be expected.

It's not clear as yet whether the port will include Battle Royale, Save the World (still in early access on other platforms), or both. However, with E3 just around the corner, we may hear more soon: we already know the game will have a booth at the show where you can play Fortnite and win "exclusive prizes." A Switch version hasn't seemed out of the question since Epic revealed its plans to bring the game to mobile, where it runs surprisingly well.

All other versions of Fortnite received a new update just recently, adding Shopping Carts, Mushrooms, and two limited-time modes to Battle Royale. In addition, Fortnite's Season 4, Week 5 challenges are live now.

Would you like to see Fortnite on Nintendo Switch? Would you play it over the existing editions? Let us know in the comments below!

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu And Eevee: Everything You Need To Know

By Kallie Plagge on Jun 06, 2018 09:58 pm

After recent leaks and rumors, The Pokemon Company has announced Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee for Nintendo Switch. Inspired by Pokemon Yellow, the new Pokemon RPGs are set in the Kanto region and also connect to Pokemon Go. Here's everything we know about the new Pokemon games so far, including what rumors were correct and how Pokemon Go fits into the picture.

What Are They?

Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee are not the core Pokemon RPG announced for Switch during Nintendo's E3 2017 press conference; that game, often called "Pokemon Switch," is set to release in late 2019. The Let's Go games are mainline Pokemon RPGs, however, and are developed by Game Freak. Director and producer Junichi Masuda said that the Let's Go games are specifically designed for newcomers to the Pokemon series, especially those who are familiar with Pokemon Go, and that they have been in development for around two years.

So Is This Pokemon Go On Switch?

No. Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee do share a lot with Pokemon Go, as was rumored; they utilize Go's Pokemon capture mechanics, meaning you throw Poke Balls at wild Pokemon to catch them rather than battling them. You can also connect the Let's Go games to Go via a Bluetooth connection, and you can transfer Pokemon from Go into Let's Go (though not the other way around). Pokemon appear in the overworld before you can initiate capturing them, and you can send gifts to Pokemon Go from Let's Go as well.

However, the Let's Go games are Pokemon RPGs, and you explore the Kanto region just as you would in Red and Blue. While you can't battle wild Pokemon, you can battle NPCs and other players, and those battles use the turn-based system of the main Pokemon games. You get experience points both from catching Pokemon as well as battling other trainers, though Masuda said the leveling system hasn't been finalized yet.

Is Pokemon Go Required? What About Motion Controls?

Pokemon Go is not required to play the Let's Go games. When catching Pokemon in docked mode, you do have to use motion controls to throw Poke Balls. In handheld mode, motion-control aiming (using the gyroscope) is required, but you use the Joy-Con's buttons to actually throw the ball.

Are These Pokemon Yellow Remakes?

This was a prominent rumor, but it's not accurate. The Let's Go games are entirely new games in the main series. They are heavily inspired by Yellow, though, and Pikachu or Eevee (depending on your version) stays by your side the whole game rather than going in a Poke Ball while you explore. These games are set in Kanto, but we don't know what the story will be like.

Can Pikachu And Eevee Evolve?

Your starter Pikachu or Eevee cannot evolve in the Let's Go games. However, other Pikachu or Eevee you catch or transfer can be evolved. Only Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon are available out of Eevee's eight current evolutions.

Though the starter Pokemon are "special," according to Masuda, you can put them in the Box as you would other Pokemon--but in these games, the Box is in your bag. We aren't sure exactly what this means yet.

How Does Transferring Pokemon From Go Work?

The Let's Go games connect to Pokemon Go via Bluetooth, and the ability to transfer Pokemon from Go is unlocked as you progress through Let's Go. Once you transfer a Pokemon, it is sent to a specific area where you then have to catch it. We don't yet know how stats will transfer (or if they'll be randomly generated, as they are in Pokemon Bank when you're storing Pokemon from the first or second generation games on Virtual Console).

Masuda did confirm that Pokemon that are shiny in Go will remain shiny in Let's Go. That's a big deal, since certain Pokemon Go events make shiny Pokemon far more common than they ever would be in the main Pokemon games. However, any Pichu, Pikachu, or Raichu with special hats in Go cannot be transferred to Let's Go.

Is There Trading, And Do They Connect To Pokemon Bank?

Masuda confirmed that you will be able to trade Pokemon between the Let's Go games. Transferring Pokemon from Go only works in the one direction. When asked about Pokemon Bank, he said he could not comment; he also did not comment on whether the Let's Go games would be compatible with present or future Pokemon games.

What Pokemon Are In Let's Go?

Masuda confirmed that the first 150 Pokemon as well as their Alolan forms from Sun and Moon would appear in Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee. We don't know yet if you'll unlock an expanded Pokedex when beating the game, like in the remakes of previous generations. Additionally, each version has slightly different Pokemon available (like always).

Eevee's prominence in these games doesn't come as a surprise; Eevee has been heavily featured with Pikachu in several recent Pokemon Center merchandise series, the most recent of which, Saiko Soda, is currently only available in Japan. Eevee was also your rival's starter Pokemon in Pokemon Yellow, which makes it the natural "opposite" of Pikachu for the two Let's Go versions.

You Can Ride Pokemon?!

As shown in the trailer, you can ride certain Pokemon in Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee. The Pokemon has to be large enough to ride, though how that's defined isn't clear. Riding a Pokemon doesn't require HMs, because there are no HMs in these games.

Can You Breed Pokemon? What About Competitive Battles?

There is no Pokemon breeding (and therefore no eggs) in Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee. Though battles against NPCs and other players follow the same turn-based format as the core Pokemon games, it's not yet clear how stats work. That means that competitive Pokemon players, who rely on breeding Pokemon for good IVs (individual values, or starting stats) and training for the correct EVs (effort values, or stats earned through battles), may not have as much to work with in the Let's Go games. That said, Masuda did mention during our Q&A session that the Let's Go games are like any other main Pokemon RPGs in that they're both "accessible" but with "depth" for those who want it.

The official competitive Pokemon series, the VGC, is currently played using Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. When asked what game players will be competing in next year, representatives of The Pokemon Company did not comment.

Can You Trade And Battle Online?

Yes! PR confirmed with GameSpot that the Let's Go games will have both local wireless and Wi-Fi online features. "However, the feature set will be somewhat simplified in comparison to previous games in that there is no GTS, Wonder Trade, or Battle Spot (Rating Battle, Free Battle, and Online Competition, etc.) for example. Further details will be revealed at a later date. An active membership for the Nintendo Switch Online service, which is scheduled to begin in September of this year, will be required to access these features."

What Else?

Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee feature two-player co-op. While playing using one Joy-Con, another player can shake the second Joy-Con and join as a support character when in open areas or battle. This player can help you catch Pokemon and can battle alongside you (though it doesn't appear to initiate a double battle).

Release Date

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee release on Nintendo Switch on November 16. Releasing alongside them (but sold separately) is the Poke Ball Plus controller, which is a Joy-Con-like peripheral you can use when catching Pokemon.

Sony's First Pre-E3 PS4 Game Reveal: Tetris Effect

By Patrick Faller on Jun 06, 2018 09:29 pm

Sony has just premiered its first pre-E3 game announcement video with one clear message: Tetris is back, and bigger than ever. Tetris Effect is coming to PS4 and PSVR this fall and it's being designed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi, known for award-winning games like Rez Infinite and Lumines.

Tetris Effect is a new take on the classic game. The core of the game remains true; players arrange blocks to form lines and solve puzzles, but the action has been dialed up more than a few notches. Get a look at Tetris Effect in the video above.

Tetris Effect is designed to be totally immersive. Music, backgrounds, sounds, and special effects all shimmer, pulse, and even explode, surrounding the player with three-dimensional worlds that react to your gameplay decisions. There are more than 30 stages to play, and the game offers multiple display options, with support for 4K resolution on a PS4 Pro and VR capabilities with the PSVR.

There's a variety of new game modes, too. A new "Zone" mechanic allows you to stop time and blocks from falling, allowing you to get the upper hand in getting out of a sticky situation that could end in game over (or simply giving you the chance to score even more line clears). Sony is promising there will be other new additions to the game too, but loyal Tetris fans will see fan favorites such as Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra modes returning. There will also be a player grading and levelling system, as well as various difficulties to to add to replayability.

Of course, given Tetsuya Mizuguchi's involvement, music and sound play a key role in creating the atmosphere of the game. We're sure to see more details on Tetris Effect revealed coming up, so follow GameSpot's E3 2018 coverage for the latest news and updates.

Rage 2 Pre-Order Guide For The US

By Chris Reed on Jun 06, 2018 09:23 pm

With an assist from Walmart, the news is out: Rage 2 is official. We don't know a ton about the game yet, but we do know it's coming to PS4, PC, and Xbox One sometime in 2019. It's being co-developed by Id Software and Avalanche Studios, and published by Bethesda.

As for what kind of game it is, Rage 2 is an open-world shooter set in a Mad Max-like post-apocalypse. A comet has crashed into Earth, killing off 80% of the population. For the few who are left, anarchy reigns, bullets fly, and explosions are as common as a cold. The game also features a healthy dose of vehicular combat, which comes as no surprise, seeing as Avalanche Studios' last game was Mad Max. There's even a gyrocopter for anyone who wants to take to the air.

If you've already decided you're all-in on Rage 2, you're probably wondering what kind of extra freebies you can get for locking in your pre-order. We have all the info you need below, along with which retailers are currently offering Rage 2 for pre-order.

Rage 2 pre-order bonuses

No Caption Provided

You'll get a handful of freebies for pre-ordering Rage 2.

  • Exclusive mission "Cult of the Death God"
  • Settler's Pistol
  • Nicolas Raine Armor
  • Monster Truck

It sounds like you'll have to complete the pre-order exclusive mission to get the gear. According to GameStop's description, the Cult of the Death God mission is "a wild ride that sends [the protagonist] Walker after a cult of crazed mutants who have taken to worshipping the image of Nicholas Raine--the hero of the original RAGE. Survive the sewers and fight through hordes of mutants--including the massive and monstrous Abadon Warlock--to receive Raine's legendary armor along with the fan-favorite Settler Pistol and the new Mutant Monster Truck."

Where to pre-order Rage 2

Here's where you can secure a pre-order. Note that, unless you're an Amazon Prime member, the cheapest price is through Newegg, where it retails for $10 off the list price.

Fallout 76 Pre-Order Guide For The US (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

By Chris Reed on Jun 06, 2018 09:19 pm

For anyone wondering when we'll get to return to the wasteland after 2015's Fallout 4, Bethesda has answered that question with a teaser trailer for the next entry: Fallout 76. The game has been confirmed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It will appear in Bethesda's presentation at E3 2018, which is scheduled for June 10 at 6:30 PM PT / 9:30 PM ET. While we don't have a release date yet or many other details besides what's shown in the cryptic, cinematic teaser above, we can make a few guesses.

The game seems to be based in or around Vault 76, in the year 2102. If so, that would make it the earliest game in the Fallout series (for reference, the bombs fell in 2077). The teaser shows a character in a vault jumpsuit strap on a Pip-Boy while TV footage tells occupants they'll need to rebuild society. That could be a hint that Fallout 76 will put more of a focus on the base-building elements introduced in Fallout 4. For more information, check out our article about everything we know about Fallout 76.

Whether you're a diehard fan of the series or you want to see what all the hype is about, you might be ready to lock in your Fallout 76 pre-order. If so, we have all the information you need below.

No pre-order bonus

Bethesda hasn't announced any pre-order bonuses so far for Fallout 76. Pre-orders of big games from major studios like this often come with a little something extra, so some kind of bonus could be announced in the future. If it is, we'll add it here.

Standard Edition

Suggested retail price: $60

The standard edition of Fallout 76 is the only one that's been announced so far. As such, it's the only one that's available to pre-order. If other editions are announced, we'll add them as retailers put them on their sites.

Death Stranding For PS4 Pre-Order Guide

By Chris Reed on Jun 06, 2018 09:11 pm

Game director Hideo Kojima might be done with the Metal Gear series, but that doesn't mean he's done with video games. After parting ways with Konami in 2015, Kojima opened a new studio with the help of Sony. The company's first project is the PS4 exclusive Death Stranding, a mysterious game that somehow becomes even more cryptic with the release of each new trailer.

But maybe Kojima's illustrious track record is enough to sell you on anything his company might make. That's understandable--the Metal Gear series is one of the most respected in the history of gaming. If you're ready to pre-order Death Stranding, you'll probably want to know what your options are. We're here to help. Read on for everything you need to know to pre-order Death Stranding right now.

No pre-order bonus

Death Stranding still doesn't have a release date, and it's only available to pre-order at a handful of retailers. So it's not that surprising we don't know what, if any, pre-order bonuses will come with the game. When and if Sony announces a pre-order bonus for Death Stranding, we'll update this article.

Where to pre-order Death Stranding

Despite not knowing when the game will release, a number of retailers are already offering Death Stranding for pre-order. Note that, unless you already have a Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked membership, the cheapest place to pre-order Death Stranding is Newegg, where it's available at a $10 discount.

Halloween Reboot: Scary First Images Revealed, Trailer Due This Week

By Dan Auty on Jun 06, 2018 09:10 pm

The Halloween series is one the most successful horror franchises ever made, but like most long-running series, the quality of the films has been extremely variable over the years. This October sees the release of the latest movie; it's simply called Halloween and will ignore every entry since John Carpenter's 1978 original. The first trailer is expected later this week, but ahead of that, we have the first official images.

Two of the pictures feature psychotic killer Michael Myers, wearing his distinctive white mask and looking very scary indeed. The third is of original star Jamie Lee Curtis, who returns as Laurie Strode, getting attacked by Michael through a door. Check them out below:

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2

These images follow the movie's poster, which was released in April. Halloween is directed by acclaimed indie director David Gordon Green (George Washington, Pineapple Express), with a script co-written by comedian and actor Danny McBride (Eastbound and Down, Alien Covenant). Carpenter is involved as a story advisor and is composing the movie's score.

In an interview with Charleston City Paper last year, McBride spoke about his and Green's approach to the movie, and how they were tapping into the more subtle scares of the first film. "The original is all about tension," he said. "Laurie Strode [Curtis' character] doesn't even know that Michael Myers exists until the last minutes of the movie. So much of it you're in anticipation of what's going to happen and the dread that Carpenter spins so effortlessly in that film, I think we were really trying to get it back to that.

"We're trying to mine that dread. Mine that tension and not just go for gore and ultra-violence that you see some horror movies lean on. To us, it was all about bringing back the creep factor and trying to find the horror in your own backyard, in our own homes."

Halloween hits theaters on October 19. For more, check out GameSpot's look at the best upcoming horror movies of 2018.

Telltale's The Walking Dead Final Season Dated

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 06, 2018 08:30 pm

The last season of Telltale's acclaimed Walking Dead series kicks off this summer. The developer announced that the first episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season drops on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 14, with a Nintendo Switch release set to follow sometime later this year.

The Final Season marks the culmination of Clementine's story, who Telltale says has grown into a "fierce and capable survivor." In addition to a new over-the-shoulder camera system, The Final Season features a new "Graphic Black" art style and scenes with unscripted combat. The developer also teases that players will need to wrestle with "new types of choices" as they guide Clementine's story to its conclusion. Here's Telltale's synopsis of the season:

"After years on the road facing threats both living and dead, a secluded school might finally be her chance for a home. But protecting it will mean sacrifice. Clem must build a life and become a leader while still watching over AJ, an orphaned boy and the closest thing to family she has left. Ahead of its release, players can pre-order The Final Season on PS4, Xbox One, and PC beginning June 8. Pre-orders run for $20 and grant players access to all four episodes of the season as they become available. Those who reserve the game on consoles will also receive The Walking Dead Collection, a compilation of all previous 19 episodes in the series.

In addition to the final season of The Walking Dead, Telltale is currently working on a new season of The Wolf Among Us. That was originally slated to launch later this year, but it has now been pushed back into 2019. According to the developer, the delay comes partly "as the result of a few fundamental changes here at Telltale since we first announced the game last summer"--presumably referring to the major layoffs that hit the studio late last year.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse - Spidey Meets Spidey In Stunning New Trailer

By Dan Auty on Jun 06, 2018 08:13 pm

Spider-Man might currently be making his live-action appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Sony still owns the right to the character and continue to make the most of his popularity. The Spidey spin-off Venom is due in October, and it will be followed a couple of months later by the much-anticipated animated movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

The first full trailer for Into The Spider-Verse has now been released. The movie focuses on Miles Morales, who ends up being mentored on how to use his newfound Spider-powers by none other than Peter Parker. The trailer is fast-moving and funny, the animation looks amazing--and if you watch to the end youll see a surprise guest appearance from a third Spider-person. Check it out above .

Into The Spider-Verse has an impressive voice cast, which includes Shameik Moore (The Get Down) as Miles, Jake Johnson (Jurassic World) as Peter, Hailee Steinfeld (Bumblebee) as Gwen Stacy, and Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan) as the villainous Kingpin, plus Mahershala Ali (Luke Cage), Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta), and Lily Tomlin (The West Wing).

The film is produced by The Lego Movie's Phil Lord and Chris Miller, with a screenplay by Lord. In a recent interview, Miller spoke about the movie's distinctive visuals. "This is a new, unique experience, and we are pushing the medium," he said, via Indiewire. "We're getting away with so much with this movie. It's a pretty wild style."

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse hits theaters on December 14. In related news, a new trailer for Venom was released in April.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Review Roundup

By Dan Auty on Jun 06, 2018 07:18 pm

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is released later this month, and the reviews are in. The movie is the sequel to 2015's hugely successful Jurassic World, which rebooted the classic dinosaur thriller franchise. It stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas-Howard once again, plus BD Wong, Toby Jones, Jeff Goldblum, and James Cromwell.

The movie is directed by Spanish filmmaker JA Bayona, who previously helmed the acclaimed drama A Monster Calls, plus the horror films Mama and The Orphanage. It was Bayona's horror experience that co-writer/producer Colin Trevorrow spoke about ahead of production, describing the movie as a "Spanish horror thriller with dinosaurs in it."

So what do the critics make of the finished movie, which hits US theaters on June 22, but can already be seen in the UK and other territories? The film currently has a 65% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is below Jurassic World's 71% and is definitely an indicator of some pretty mixed reactions. Let's take a look at the reviews...

GameSpot -- no score

"Like many a sophomore film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom serves most of all as set-up for a third, potentially very exciting dinosaur movie. From its opening scene, the movie gets one thing across with extreme effectiveness: There's always a bigger dinosaur. And given Fallen Kingdom's success--despite its faults--we're going to keep paying to watch those dinosaurs eat people for the foreseeable future." -- Michael Rougeau [Full review]

Time Out -- 3/5

"This fun, pacy addition to the dino disaster franchise doesn't do much that's particularly new--though what it does, it does with a fair whack of panache. That's largely thanks to gifted Spanish director JA Bayona, who brings to bear the macabre touches that made The Orphanage such a spooky treat." -- Phil De Semylen [Full review]

Empire -- 4/5

"Bayona doesn't just pull off the carefully crafted white-knuckle frights you expect of him--he also goes bigger than any other Jurassic film. Despite some familiar echoes of The Lost World, Fallen Kingdom also takes big, ballsy, irreversible strides, deriving tantalising logical conclusions from Michael Crichton's original premise and setting up a brave new World for this trilogy's final chapter." -- Ben Travis [Full review]

The Guardian -- 2/5

"There are some reasonably entertaining scenes and set pieces, but the whole concept feels tired and contrived, and crucially the dinosaurs themselves are starting to look samey, without inspiring much of the awe or terror they used to. It could be that a meteor of tedium is heading towards these CGI creatures, despatching them to extinction." -- Peter Bradshaw [Full review]

Screenrant -- no score

"Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom provides the fun and adventure moviegoers have come to expect from the Jurassic Park franchise, while providing a great deal of horror and perhaps even more heart than viewers may be expecting. Further, the concepts and ideas explored in Fallen Kingdom also weave in a little more to think about in terms of the real impact de-extinct dinosaurs would have on humankind's existence on Earth. Ultimately, Fallen Kingdom is a more mature and fully realized vision than Jurassic World, offering plenty of entertainment for diehard Jurassic Park fans and casual summer moviegoers alike." -- Molly Freeman [Full review]

Den of Geek -- 2/5

"There really isn't a story, just a series of set-pieces with varying degrees of impressiveness. Thus enters the fifth Jurassic Park movie, a film aware that the nostalgia keg which gave plentifully to the last several entries in the franchise runs the risk of tapping out—so it preemptively scrapes the bottom of the barrel for narrative ideas that include exploding volcanoes and velociraptors rummaging around a haunted house like they're Christopher Lee." -- David Crow [Full review]

Entertainment Weekly -- B+

"Howard, thankfully, gets more to do than the last go round (and in combat boots, no less!), Pratt busts out his signature Indiana Jones cocktail of can-do heroism and deadpan sarcasm, and Bayona and his screenwriters (Trevorrow and Derek Connolly) test the laws of incredulity with varying degrees of success. At least, until the final half hour when forehead-slapping hooey finally win out. Up until then, Fallen Kingdom is exactly the kind of escapist summer behemoth you want it to be" -- Chris Nashawaty [Full review]

Uproxx -- no score

"There is a little bit of the wonder and joy that made the original so special embedded deep within Fallen Kingdom, which I credit to Bayona, whose primary drive, even in genre fare like this, has always been to sprinkle just enough emotion into the stories he tells. The plot of this feels less forced, and overall less cynical, than Jurassic World." -- Emma Stefansky [Full review]

New John Wick 3 Image: Canine Cool At The Continental

By Dan Auty on Jun 06, 2018 07:17 pm

Production continues on the much-anticipated action sequel John Wick: Chapter 3, and following last month's first teaser and casting news, we have another new image. This time it features co-star Halle Berry, who is playing a character called Sofia.

The image was released via the movie's official Twitter account. We don't know anything about Berry's character beyond her name, but she is walking through what could be one of the hotels in the Continental chain with two fearsome-looking dogs. The caption reads "A woman on a mission"--check it out below:

John Wick: Chapter 3 hits theaters on May 16, 2019, with Keanu Reeves returning as the reluctant assassin. Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, and Laurence Fishburne are set to reprise their roles from the previous movies, while Asia Kate Dillon (Orange is the New Black), Mark Dacascos (Cradle 2 the Grave), Jason Mantzoukas (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place), and Angelica Huston (Isle of Dogs) are new additions to the cast.

John Wick: Chapter 3 is directed by Chad Stahelski, who helmed Chapter 2 and co-directed the first movie. Last year, Stahelski spoke about his plans for John Wick: Chapter 3. "We want, not so much to go bigger on the third one, but to show you more of the intricacies of the world," he said. "I feel like there are all these different subtleties that I skipped over in Part 2, that I'd like to go back to [with Part 3] and show you the inner workings of different parts of New York."

Development of the long-rumored John Wick TV spin-off The Continental was also confirmed by Starz in January. The channel's president Chris Albrecht said that the show will "include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introducing some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world." The Continental does not yet have a premiere date.

Lego Movie 2 Trailer Is A Mad Max Tribute, And It's Awesome

By Dan Auty on Jun 06, 2018 07:17 pm

The first trailer for the The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part has arrived. The sequel to 2014's animated smash The Lego Movie has been in the works for several years, but doesn't arrive until February next year. In the meantime, this first promo gives us an idea of what to expect.

The trailer picks up where the first movie left off, with Bricksburg now a terrifying Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic wasteland. Of course, Emmet is still as obliviously happy as ever, but when Wyldstyle, Batman, and some of his other pals are captured, he has to head into outer space get them back. Check it out above.

This trailer follows the first poster, which was released last month. The voice cast includes Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Tiffany Haddish, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Alison Brie.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part will be directed by Mike Mitchell, who previous helmed the hugely successful Trolls. He is actually the third director to be attached to the project, following Chris McKay, who instead made The Lego Batman Movie, and Rob Schrab, who exited the movie due to "creative differences."

As the trailer suggests, the movie will address some of the gender politics around both the first movie and the way kids play with toys. This is something that McKay, who remains on board as a producer, spoke about in a recent interview with Collider. "[It looks at] what's different and similar about gender, when a boy plays vs. how a girl plays," he said. "It's going to be like the first Lego Movie was, where it's about something else that's really profound. I'm really excited about where the movie is gonna go because it's about these things that are actual notions that people have that might even be unconscious biases, where people don't even realize that that's the way they're looking at the world."

First Bumblebee Trailer Delivers Retro '80s Transformers Action

By Dan Auty on Jun 06, 2018 07:15 pm

The future of the Transformers franchise might be uncertain, but we're definitely getting at least one more movie. The spin-off Bumblebee hits theaters in December and will focus on the earlier adventures of the much-loved yellow VW Autobot. The first trailer has now arrived.

The trailer confirms earlier reports that the movie will have a smaller feel than the main Transformers films. It's set in California in the 1980s, and stars Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) as a young woman who finds Bumblebee in a trash heap. We see Steinfeld and Bumblebee slowly bonding, and there's a brief appearance from Starscream, who, like Bumblebee, can be seen in his classic '80s design. Check it out above.

Bumblebee also features WWE star John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Jason Drucker (Diary of Wimpy Kid), Ricardo Hoyos (The Belko Experiment), and Gracie Dzienny (Chasing Life). It's directed by Travis Knight, who previously helmed the Oscar-nominated animated movie Kubo And The Two Strings. It hit theaters on December 21.

When Bumblebee was first announced, it was supposed to be the first in an ongoing spin-off universe of Transformers movies. However, last year's Transformers: The Last Knight was a financial disappointment compared to the previous four films. As a result, the Transformers movie originally scheduled for 2019 has been removed entirely from Paramount's schedules.

This follows the rumors back in February that Habsro, the toy manufacturer which owns the rights to Transformers, is planning to reboot the whole franchise. It was also reported that a new agreement with Paramount means that Hasbro will have greater control over the property, including greenlighting movie projects.
