New On Netflix This Week (US): Movies, TV Series, And Originals

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 30, 2018 12:09 am

As is tradition at this point, a couple dozen new shows and movies are being added to Netflix at the start of the month. This November sees a lot of movies being added right at the start, with a few TV series and Netflix Originals following in the days after.

For this week, you'll see most of Netflix's newest add-ons going live on November 1. Marvel dominates the first day of the month with three new movies. 2016's Dr. Strange--starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme--is the only one that's a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that doesn't discount the quality of the other two. Planet Hulk--based on the storyline that inspired the events of Thor: Ragnarok--is an animated film that takes place just prior to Marvel's Civil War storyline. In Planet Hulk, the Illuminati are tired of cleaning up after the Hulk, so they trick him into a shuttle that sends him to another planet, Sakaar, where he's forced into competing in gladiator matches. Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow, another animated film, is about Ultron killing every member of the Avengers except Iron Man, and the Avengers' children picking up the fight against the killer AI once they grow up.

Most of Netflix's original series and movies come to the streaming service on Friday, November 3. Most notable in the bunch is House of Cards Season 6, which finishes the critically acclaimed series. House of Cards returns without series' star Kevin Spacey, who was removed from the show following sexual abuse allegations. Instead, the new season follows Claire Underwood--who's played by Robin Wright--the President of the United States with an agenda all her own.

The full list of new series, movies, and Originals coming to Netflix this week can be found below. If you're already looking forward to following weeks, you can check out the entire November Netflix schedule too.

Destiny 2 Made More On Consoles Than Fortnite And Spider-Man In September, Report Says

By Steve Watts on Oct 29, 2018 11:55 pm

September was the start of the busy fall season for video game releases, but the top grossing game wasn't even released this year. Research company SuperData has released its top-grossing games worldwide for the month, and found that Destiny 2 beat out all of them on consoles. It won out over notable competition like Spider-Man and Fortnite.

Obviously, this wasn't just players spontaneously picking up last year's loot-shooter. Destiny 2 had the Forsaken launch near the beginning of the month, so that likely carried it through. It also has the Eververse store, the cosmetic shop that has been ongoing and isn't comparable to anything offered in Spider-Man. Plus as of the time Forsaken launched, players needed to purchase old DLC to start playing it, which likely helped. Bungie and Activision have since changed that requirement.

Still, beating the competition is no small feat. Spidey broke both internal Sony and industry-wide NPD sales records. Fortnite has been an ongoing massive hit, with momentum continuing from month to month thanks to changing seasons and special events. Fortnite may have done even better in the sales charts, in fact, but Season 6 launched near the end of the month of September and so it didn't have a full month of players re-upping their Battle Passes or purchasing other cosmetic rewards.

Destiny 2 is also on PC, which didn't make the list. Plus Fortnite, which is available just about everywhere, is relatively low on the PC list and didn't make the cut at all on mobile.

Sandwiched between Spider-Man at #2 and Fortnite at #4 is FIFA 19. The soccer franchise is a big annual release for EA Sports, and it includes the popular (and lucrative) Ultimate Team feature. Other top-earners on console for the month include NBA 2K19 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

SuperData Top Grossing Console Games September 2018

  1. Destiny 2
  2. Marvel's Spider-Man
  3. FIFA 19
  4. Fortnite Battle Royale
  5. NBA 2K19
  6. FIFA 18
  7. Call of Duty: WWII
  8. Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  9. Grand Theft Auto V

$70 For Red Dead Redemption 2 & Shadow of the Tomb Raider (Xbox One)

By Chris Reed on Oct 29, 2018 11:44 pm

Here's a great deal for anyone looking to expand their Xbox One game collection to include a pair of major recent releases. The Ebay seller Antonline (which is a legitimate outfit that often has good deals) is selling brand-new copies of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider as a pair for $70. That's a fantastic deal, considering buying both games separately would normally cost $120. So if you've had your eye on these titles, you might as well get them now and save $50. Stock is limited, so you'll want to hurry. You can grab this deal here.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the newest game from Rockstar. It's a prequel to the previous game, taking place in 1899 as the Van der Linde gang is on the run from the law and committing crimes as they make their way across a vast swath of America. In our Red Dead Redemption 2 review, Kallie Plagge wrote, "Red Dead Redemption 2 is an excellent prequel, but it's also an emotional, thought-provoking story in its own right, and it's a world that is hard to leave when it's done."

Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which came out mid-September, continues the story begun in the 2013 series reboot. Here, Lara Croft goes on an adventure to stop a Mayan apocalypse that her tomb raiding set in motion. "Thankfully," Edmond Tran wrote in our Shadow of the Tomb Raider review, "the parts of Tomb Raider that make it really fantastic--uncovering the mystery of ancient ruins, solving impressive challenge tombs, and exploring exotic environments--are still here in Shadow, and they are just as outstanding as they have always been."

Even if you only want to play one of these games, this deal might be worth jumping on, because you can make more than $10 by selling or trading the other one in. Just don't wait too long, because stock could run out at any time.

Sony has officially confirmed the full list of games for its upcoming mini console throwback to the PS1, the PlayStation Classic. The system is set to launch on December 3 and comes pre-loaded with a total of 20 games, as previously announced. The initial reveal consisted of only five games on the list, but we now know everything it will come with.

We spotted the PlayStation Classic alongside the original hardware at Paris Games Week and you can see them side-by-side in the pictures below.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Fishing Tips Guide: Legendaries, How To Fish, And More

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 29, 2018 10:24 pm

Red Dead Redemption 2 lets you fish, and it's a robust, enjoyable, and rewarding pursuit that's a perfect for the game at large. It's also somewhat involved, so we've put together a guide to help you learn the basics, so you can quickly start to catch fish and have a fun time. This guide also goes into depth on the different types of fish in the game and where to find them, while we've also provided a the map to help you find all 13 of the game's Legendary fish.

Starting off, fishing in Red Dead Redemption 2 is unlocked by playing the Chapter 2 story mission "A Fisher Of Men," in which you teach young Jack Marston to fish. You take little Jack down to the river for a fishing lesson, and this serves as your introduction to the system.

No Caption Provided

How To Fish:

The first step is to select your Fishing Rod from the Items menu. Next, you must attach bait to it, and this is divided into two categories: Bobber and Lure (more on that later).

Hold LT/L2 to grip the rod and then RT/R2 to cast. How long you hold down RT/R2 will determine how far the cast goes. It might take you a few times to get a feel for it, but it's rewarding to land a cast precisely where you want it. Once you've cast your line out, what happens next depends on the bait you used. With a bobber, all of you have to do is sit and wait to get a bite You can tap RT/R2 to attract a nearby fish (if you're standing close enough to shore you might even see the fish in the water), but do it too much and you'll spook them. With a lure, you have to reel in until you feel a bite. If you see a fish, cast beyond it and reel in the lure so the fish sees it coming by. Be sure to wait until you feel a strong bite before "striking"--with a bobber or a lure--as fish will often nibble a few times before biting down the hook. Once you've landed a fish, the real work begins.

The fish will immediately pull back, and you'll feel your line get tight, with your rod bending in reaction to the tugging. Wait until the fish becomes tired before reeling in; trying to reel as a fish is tugging will cause your line to break. With a fish on the line, push the left stick in the opposite direction the fishing is moving to tire it out faster. You can also click in the right stick and push it in any direction to prevent the fish from taking more line out. However, you must be careful with this approach as you can snap your line very easily. You will also snap your line if a fish pulls away and gets behind a rock or other object.

You reel in by rotating the right stick counter clockwise. You'll want to reel in as fast as possible when the fish grows tired, while also being mindful of how much line you have out, how taut the line is, and where the fish is in the water. Pushing the left stick down as you reel in speeds up the process because it brings the fish directly in towards you. I found it was helpful, if not a little embarrassing, to use my thumb and index finger at the same time to reel in even faster.

The amount of fight a fish puts in is directly related to its size and type. You'll be able to reel in smaller fish such as bluegills, rock bass, and smallmouth bass with relative ease. But catching larger fish, like Sturgeon and Sockeye Salmon, can entail fights that take multiple minutes to complete. If you snap your line, you'll lose your bait or your lure, but don't get discouraged as they are plenty of fish available in Red Dead Redemption 2's numerous lakes, rivers, and swamps.

Bait Types:

Just like in real life, selecting the right bait is critically important if you want to reel in a big one. You can purchase basic bait types like bread, corn, and cheese, or spend more money on worms and crayfish that help you land bigger fish. There are also lures specific to rivers, lakes, and swamps, as well as "special" lures that you'll need to catch the biggest fish and the Legendary ones. Here is a rundown of the bait types we've come across so far.

Bobber:

  • Bread: good for smaller fish
  • Corn: good for smaller fish.
  • Cheese: good for smaller fish.
  • Worms: excellent for medium sized lake fish.
  • Crayfish: good for larger size fish in deeper parts of rivers and lakes.
  • Crickets: excellent for attracting medium-sized river fish.

Lure:

  • River lure: attracts all small and medium size fish in rivers.
  • Lake lure: attracts larger lake dwelling fish.
  • Swamp lure: attracts swamp dwelling medium and large size fish
  • Special River lure: increases your chances of catching medium to large river fish.
  • Special Lake lure: increases your chances of catching medium to large lake fish.
  • Special Swamp lure: increases your chances of catching medium to large swap fish.

Bait And Tackle Shops:

The Bait And Tackle shop in Lagras sells everything you need for fishing, including live worms, crayfish, and all lure types. It's the only Bait And Tackle shop we've found so far in the game.

Types Of Fish And What To Use To Catch Them

There are many different types of fish that can be found in Red Dead Redemption 2's lakes, ponds, rivers, and swamps. Here are the ones we've caught so far, as well as the bait type that provided the highest likelihood of reeling them in successfully.

  • Bluegill -- Cheese
  • Chain Pickerel -- Corn
  • Redfin Pickerel -- Bread
  • Rock Bass -- Cheese or other natural baits
  • Smallmouth Bass -- Any type of natural bait
  • Bullhead Catfish -- Cheese or corn
  • Perch -- Bread
  • Lake Sturgeon -- Lake lure
  • Largemouth Bass -- Crayfish
  • Steelhead Trout -- Worms
  • Muskie -- Lake lure
  • Sockeye Salmon -- river lure

When To Fish

The time of day matters if you want to have the best success fishing. Early morning and afternoon are when fish bite the most, due to bugs flying close to the surface. You should also try to fish when it's raining, because the drops on the water make fish believe bugs are around.

Where To Fish And Specific Conditions

To find the fish you're after, you'll have to fish in the right spot. Here's a rundown of the locations where we've found the following fish.

  • Bluegill -- All lakes and rivers; most active during rain.
  • Chain Pickerel -- Lakes, rivers, and swamps; most active in sunny weather.
  • Redfin Pickerel -- Rivers in the south; most active on warm, sunny days.
  • Rock Bass -- All clear water in the country; most active on sunny days.
  • Smallmouth Bass -- Northern rivers; most active during rain.
  • Bullhead Catfish -- Swamps; most active during rain.
  • Perch -- Rivers and lakes across the country; most active during sunny weather.
  • Lake Sturgeon -- Southern lakes and swamps; most active during overcast weather.
  • Largemouth Bass -- All waters in the south; most active during rainy weather.
  • Steelhead Trout -- Lakes, mostly in the south; most active during rainy weather.
  • Muskie -- Northern lakes; most active during overcast days.
  • Sockeye Salmon -- Rivers in the north; most active during overcast weather.

One further note is that fish, particularly bigger ones, loooovvvvve to hang out at the mouths of waterfalls, as the water there is more oxygenated than other areas. Try there if you're struggling.

Legendary Fish:

Head to the shore of Flat Iron Lake in the Heartlands to a place called Gill Landing. Here, you'll meet a stranger named...Gill, who is a world-renowned fisherman, or at least that's what he wants you to believe. He'll hand you a map with the locations of 13 epic-sized fish you'll find throughout the game. Snag them all and report back to Gill for your prize. These are indeed mighty fish, so expect the toughest fishing battles the game has to offer. You will need to use the "special" lures mentioned above to bag these big ones. The best advice I can give is to try to catch them when they're already close to shore, so as to cut down on your reeling time significantly and improve the odds of landing the fish. Here's the map:

Watch Out For Goats

There are unpenned billy goats throughout Lagras that can cause problems while fishing. On multiple occasions, I was fishing near the swamp and a goat smacked me in the rear, breaking my fishing line while I was reeling in. It was frustrating, and I thought it might have been a bug. But it happened three times, so the lesson here is to watch out for goats while fishing in Lagras.

Boats

At a certain point a few hours into the game, you will steal a boat and bring it to camp. At this point you can use it to head further into a lake to go after the bigger fish that tend to live in deeper water. You can also steal boats you find on your journey to fish anywhere you'd like.

No Ice Fishing

Red Dead Redemption 2 has snowy, cold locations with frozen lakes and ponds, and one of the Legendary fish is located in a lake that is partially frozen over. However, there doesn't appear to be any true ice fishing where you drill through the ice and drop a line in. Here's to hoping Red Dead Redemption 2 gets the guaranteed-seller "Ice Fishing Expansion" down the road…

New To Netflix In November 2018: Originals, TV Shows, And Movies Coming And Going (US)

By Mat Elfring on Oct 29, 2018 10:24 pm

November is almost here, and that means it's almost time to spend the day gorging yourself on turkey, making sure to avoid the family you're forced to hang out with. What better way to avoid forced conversation than sitting around the television, watching Netflix, together? November is almost here, and Netflix has revealed what is coming to its service for the next month, as well as what is leaving the subscription service.

Kicking off the month, Netflix is bringing a slew of movies on Thursday, November 1. If you haven't seen it yet, you'll need to watch From Dusk Till Dawn. The 1996 action/horror film is by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino and follows two criminals on the run who take a family in an RV hostage. They all end up at a strip club in Mexico that's filled with vampires. Also coming on the first of the month is Cape Fear, Marvel's Doctor Strange, and Sixteen Candles.

If Netflix's originals are more up your alley, then you're in luck, as there are 46 movies and series coming in November. Most notable is the return of House of Cards, for Season 6, which will be its final season. This time around, Kevin Spacey won't be involved after sexual abuse allegations came out against the House of Cards star. The final season will follow Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) as the President of the United States, which was revealed in the first trailer.

There are plenty of other original series to get excited about as well. Mystery Science Theater 3000 returns for another season to make fun of some terrible, old movies, coming November 22. Also, She-Ra--He-Man's superpowered cousin--is getting a fun and bubbly reboot on November 16. Along with a new collection of The Great British Baking Show on November 9, you'll have a ton to watch.

The full the list for Netflix is below, and make sure to check out what's coming to Hulu and Amazon for the month of November as well.

New Rainbow Six Siege Update Balances Operators And Weapons: Here Are The Full Patch Notes

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 29, 2018 10:19 pm

Ubisoft has announced the release schedule for the mid-season update for Rainbow Six Siege. The update was tested on the PC version of the game last week and is set to go live across all platforms this week.

Patch Y3S3.2 has already been deployed on the PC version of Siege. The update goes live on Xbox One and PS4 on October 31. The servers on the PC version of Siege faced about an hour of downtown due to maintenance when the update went live, so we can probably expect the same for the console versions of the game this Halloween. Ubisoft has not revealed the exact timeframe the update will go live on Xbox One and PS4.

The full patch notes for Siege's newest update can be found on the game's main website, but we've also listed the highlights below. The patch balances both Clash and Maestro, as well as two weapons. Most of the update fixes bugs in the game's level design and Operators.

Rainbow Six Siege is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The game is currently in the midst of a limited-time, Halloween-themed event called Mad House. Mad House lasts until October 31 and adds a haunted variation of the House map to Siege. 10 of Siege's Operators--Finka, Jager, Vigil, Thermite, Valkyrie, Pulse, Hibana, Mira, Buck, and Ash--also get exclusive holiday skins that transform them into monsters.

Siege Y3S3.2 Patch Notes

Balancing

Clash

Destiny 2 Haunted Forest: Here's How To Escape The Scary Pit And Snag Your Loot At The End

By Phil Hornshaw on Oct 29, 2018 10:09 pm

When players finally complete the new Haunted Forest event in Destiny 2's Halloween-themed Festival of the Lost, they're greeted by the usual: a loot chest that holds all their hard-earned winnings. The trouble is, the Haunted Forest has one last scare waiting just under the surface: the stone bridge players cross to reach the chest gives out beneath their feet almost as soon as they touch it, tossing the Guardians into a frightening, blood red pit below. Inside: an unkillable Hive Knight called The Invincible Nightmare.

It's a frightening twist to the horror-themed activity. Instead of getting your loot, you get stuck with a huge, axe-wielding monster, like that moment in every slasher movie when the killer inevitably isn't actually dead, and gets in one final scare. The trouble with the pit, though, is that at first blush, it seems to rob you of everything you fought for in the Haunted Forest, and makes it seem like there's no way to reach the reward chest.

The good news is, even if you don't open the chest at the end of the Haunted Forest, you still get your winnings. They're automatically sent to the Postmaster, just like the stuff from chests in just about any other activity. Once you've earned rewards in the Haunted Forest, they're yours, no matter what condition you're left in by the Invincible Nightmare.

Just because you fall into the Nightmare's pit doesn't mean you're stuck there, though. There's actually a secret escape out of the pit on one of the walls. Look up about midway to one side of the pit and you'll see a small indentation that marks a hole you players can leap through. It takes you out of the pit and onto the side of the bridge under which it hides. Following the narrow pathway from there allows you to climb back up onto the far side of the bridge and claim your loot chest, while also giving you a second to let your heart stop pounding.

It's also possible to avoid falling into the pit altogether, if you're quick. When the stones of the walkway give out beneath Guardians as they cross, they're pulled down thanks to a sort of suction, but it's possible to jump free with the right timing (or, at least, with the triple jump of the Hunter class). You can also stick to the side edges of the bridge and potentially avoid any tricky cobblestones altogether.

If Bungie is following the usual horror movie script with the Haunted Forest, the question now becomes one of how to kill the Invincible Nightmare, like the characters of a Friday the Thirteenth or Halloween movie might try to do. Like all good slasher movies, though, even if players successfully take the Nightmare down, we'll all still be wondering if it's really dead.

Where Is Red Dead Redemption 2's Multiplayer, Red Dead Online?

By Steve Watts on Oct 29, 2018 10:06 pm

Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available on both PS4 and Xbox One, but if you haven't been paying close attention, you might be wondering where its multiplayer mode is and how to access it. Red Dead Online, as it's called, is not yet available; instead, it will launch sometime in November as a beta. There's still very little known about it, but you can read our original story below for what we do know.

Rockstar has shared the first details regarding Red Dead Redemption 2's online mode, named simply Red Dead Online. As was the case with Grand Theft Auto V's online component, GTA Online, Red Dead Online will not launch alongside the game itself; instead, it will debut sometime in November 2018--one month after Redemption 2 itself releases--and will start as a public beta. Anyone who owns a copy of RDR2 will have free access to Red Dead Online; there's no indication the multiplayer mode will be made available separately.

"Using the gameplay of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players," the announcement states.

But in a moment of expectations-setting, the announcement also warns that players who hop on immediately are likely to experience some growing pains. Specifically, the studio says it expects turbulence at launch, and to work with the community to overcome "teething problems" and develop Red Dead Online over time.

That roadmap makes it sound very similar to Grand Theft Online, which was fairly rough when it first launched a few weeks after the launch of Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar has been treating it as a live service since then, though, and has continuously added new features, modes, and cosmetic items over the course of years. Red Dead Online is likely to get a similar treatment given the phenomenal long-term success of GTA V.

The November launch target also sets it apart from the release date for Red Dead Redemption 2 itself, which is set to release on October 26. For more details, check out our wrap-up of everything we know so far. Finally, we've got new screenshots, hunting details, and word of a PS4 Pro bundle.

Spider-Man PS4 Devs Troll Complaining Players By Adding Puddles To Photo Mode

By Phil Hornshaw on Oct 29, 2018 09:57 pm

If there's something Spider-Man PS4 needs, it's more puddles. With its latest update to Marvel's Spider-Man, developer Insomniac Games has made sure all players' versions of New York City are up to the requisite level of dampness, as required by internet law. The new update, which came just ahead of the release of Spider-Man's first round of downloadable content, The Heist, includes a new difficulty mode and a New Game Plus mode, as well as additional stickers for Spider-Man's Photo mode--specifically, puddles.

Insomniac User Interface and Experience Lead Gil Doron shared a shot of the new puddle capabilities on Twitter. It was also shared by Insomniac Community Manager James Stevenson, who cheekily wrote, "You can add your own puddles in Photo mode now with puddle stickers. You're welcome."

The addition of puddle stickers allows players to add as many puddles as they like to the game, in a hilarious throwing of moist shade by Insomniac. The puddle gag is a reference to an internet controversy that pooled up before the September release of Spider-Man, when some Reddit users claimed one shot of the game included fewer puddles than were shown in the same scene at E3 2018.

The lack of puddles led to some players claiming Spider-Man had received a graphical downgrade as compared to the E3 demo, maybe to hide the limitations of the PS4, and they were not happy about it. The situation became, as some dubbed it, Puddle-gate. Insomniac answered back by saying the puddle sizes had been reduced, but there was no graphical downgrade. The Photo mode answer to the Puddle-gate question is undeniably better.

Apparently the controversy wasn't a wet blanket for too many players, since Spider-Man broke Sony's sales records in its first three days on store shelves.

Ascendant Challenge (Oct. 23-30) Location In Destiny 2: Where To Go And What To Do

By Chris Pereira on Oct 29, 2018 08:57 pm

The weekly resets for Destiny 2 continue to roll out. As is part of the post-Forsaken routine, one aspect of this includes a refresh to the Ascendant Challenge that is available from Petra in the Dreaming City. For the second week in a row, we're seeing a repeat of an earlier Ascendant Challenge; if this pattern holds, we can expect to see them released in the same order they initially debuted in. Below, you'll find a complete guide on where you need to go and what to do to complete this week's bounty to earn Powerful gear. [Update: It's Monday, making this your last chance to complete this Ascendant Challenge until its next appearance.]

The Ascendant Challenge always involves you heading through a portal to the Ascendant Plane, but the particulars of what you're doing are entirely different from week to week. To start out, you'll need a consumable item called the Tincture of Queensfoil. With a Tincture in hand, make your way to the Garden of Esila area near the southernmost point of the map, as seen in the image below. Consuming the Tincture will provide you with the Ascendance buff that allows to see a Taken portal that's somewhat hidden on a cliffside. Jump in, and you'll be teleported to the Ascendant Plane's Forfeit Shrine.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6

Once you're there, you'll have to fend off Taken--or just avoid them--while trying to secure three Arc Charges around the area. Once you pick one up, head toward the center starting area, near the giant Blight ball. Walk into the bright point at the bottom to dunk the charge you're holding. Repeat the process two more times and you'll receive an endless supply of Super energy that will help you to kill all of the remaining Taken in the area. Once they're dealt with, you can complete the bounty (netting you Dark Fragments and Powerful gear) and open a chest.

Given that the bounty (not the chest) offers Powerful gear--a reliable way of increasing your Power level--this is an activity you'll definitely want to take part in once you're able. But bear in mind it is a challenge, so be sure to come prepared. It can be done solo, but having multiple teammates to grab charges and draw the enemies' attention can help immensely.

Where Is Xur? Destiny 2 Xur Location And Exotics Guide (Oct. 26-30)

By Chris Pereira on Oct 29, 2018 08:52 pm

With Festival of the Lost ongoing and some welcome changes coming quite soon, Destiny 2 players have a lot going on. But one thing that doesn't change is the weekly appearance from Xur, the mysterious merchant who is back until the weekly reset on October 30 to sell an assortment of Exotic items. Here's where to find him and what he's selling. [Update: It's now Monday, meaning you have about a day left to visit Xur before he disappears as part of the weekly reset on Tuesday.]

For this visit, you'll find Xur located in the EDZ. Spawn at the Winding Cove landing zone and make your way straight ahead, past the Public Event area. Just across the road, up on the hill, is a crashed ship. Xur is found just to the right of it, and you can reach him by platforming up the nearby rocks. You can see the location in the map below.

His lineup of items consists of the same sort of things as usual: an Exotic weapon and a piece of Exotic armor for each class. The weapon is the fusion rifle Telesto, which shoots projectiles that stick to whatever they hit before exploding. It's a good time.

For armor, Titans get the Actium War Rig chest armor; this reloads ammo into your auto rifle's magazine, letting you fire it for extended periods of time (it pairs nicely with Sweet Business, the chain gun-style auto rifle). Hunters get the Sealed Ahamkara Grasps gauntlets, which reload your equipped weapon when you land a melee hit. Warlocks get the similarly named Claws of Ahamkara gauntlets, which give you a second melee charge. You might already own these armor pieces, but it could be worth buying if you have Year One versions, as the ones Xur has will have additional perks.

No Caption Provided

  • Telesto (Exotic fusion rifle) -- 29 Legendary Shards
  • Actium War Rig (Exotic Titan chest armor) -- 23 Legendary Shards
  • Sealed Ahamkara Grasps (Exotic Hunter gauntlets) -- 23 Legendary Shards
  • Claws of Ahamkara (Exotic Warlock gauntlets) -- 23 Legendary Shards

Xur also has a challenge card for adding modifiers to the Nightfall, as well as the Fated engram. This costs 97 Legendary Shards, a somewhat steep sum, but it's guaranteed to decrypt into an Exotic you don't own from Year One.

The Fated engram is a reliable way to build out your collection of Exotics, but there is some hope for that to become easier soon. Bungie has shared further details on its plans to make Exotic duplicates less common; these changes will be implemented as part of an update launching on October 30. This will also introduce various quality-of-life changes, as well as a nerf to Sleeper Simulant in Gambit.

Resident Evil 2 Remake: Release Date / US Pre-Order Guide (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

By Chris Reed on Oct 29, 2018 08:50 pm

Resident Evil 2 launched on the PS One in 1998, but just like the zombies in the game, it's getting reanimated. A Resident Evil 2 remake is set to launch on January 25, 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will cover much of the same ground as the original, but it will look and play much better and offer a whole new perspective.

The perspective shift unshackles the camera from its formerly fixed positions and pulls it in for an over-the-shoulder-third person view--much like in Resident Evil 4. Even so, many of the survival horror aspects that left the series as it continued remain in place here. For more information, read our Resident Evil 2 hands-on preview.

If you're ready to pre-order a copy of Resident Evil 2 remaster, you'll probably want to know what your options are. We have you covered below, so read on for help deciding where to place your pre-order.

Fallout 76 Live-Action Trailer Features A Mega-Sloth And More

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 29, 2018 08:37 pm

Bethesda has released a snazzy new live-action trailer for Fallout 76. Set to the classic Beach Boys song "Wouldn't It Be Nice," the 60-second spot features a lot of fantastic visuals, beginning with a mega-sloth and getting wilder and more over-the-top from there.

The trailer shows a diverse cast of characters coming together, and that's meant to highlight how for the first time in the franchise, Fallout 76 is focusing on online multiplayer. Although it can work as a single-player Fallout experience, it's nonetheless an online game. Watch the video above.

Bethesda has a history of releasing impressive live-action trailers for its games. The developer also released a nice-looking live-action trailer for 2015's Fallout 4.

Fallout 76 launches on November 14 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is not coming to Nintendo Switch because it "wasn't doable," but Bethesda still loves the platform and is considering other games for the console.

The Fallout 76 beta is ongoing in short bursts, with these tests set to soon expand from Xbox One to PS4 and PC. The beta will continue to be available to those who pre-order for periods ranging from 2-8 hours until the full version's release date. If you're participating, you'll be able to carry over your progress.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheat Codes List: How To Find And Activate Them

By Alessandro Fillari on Oct 29, 2018 08:33 pm

Rockstar Game's latest release, Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4 and Xbox One, is a game where you'll want to spend a great deal of time uncovering all of its secrets and details. You can spend 50-plus hours just completing the main story, slowing accumulating wealth and honor. But if you're someone looking for a shortcut--who wants to find a quick path to success while living the life of an outlaw in the last days of the wild west--we've got you covered. Much like the original game and GTA V, Red Dead 2 features an assortment of cheat codes that unlock additional resources, with some injecting odd gimmicks and quirks into your game.

To find the Cheats menu, press the pause button and select the Settings option. In this menu, press Triangle or Y (on PS4 and Xbox One, respectively) to pull up the Cheats menu. From here, you'll find a long list of locked cheats. Initially, you won't know what any of these do or how to unlock them. Many of these codes can be activated by putting in the correct phrase, but others will require some extra time and effort.

In addition to finding passwords while exploring the world, some of which are written into the ground, throughout the game you'll find newspapers for sale in towns, and some of these offer clues as to how to unlock these extra fun options. More newspapers will become available after completing main missions, which you'll see detailed in news articles. While many of these cheats introduce some mostly benign bits of fun--such as keeping your character, Arthur Morgan, perpetually drunk--activating these codes at any time will have some consequences for your save game. Once you activate these codes, all Trophies and Achievements will be deactivated on this particular file. As a result, before trying any of these codes, be sure to make a separate file for your main save.

With over 30 codes to unlock, some of which have some specific requirements, we've collected a list of cheats that we've uncovered thus far. We also have a separate feature discussing some of the most entertaining and best cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2. Be sure to check back with GameSpot as we update this page with new codes, and how to find them.

And while Diablo III: Eternal Collection arrives on Nintendo Switch this week, it's been available on PS4 and Xbox One long enough that it's temporarily dipping down to $30. That's a great deal, considering it's a huge game and it comes with all of the updates and expansions. Also on sale this week are Shadow of the Tomb Raider for $45, Star Wars Battlefront II for $15, and Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition for $25.

You can find more deals below or check out all of the discounts, along with a whole bunch of price drops, here.

Xbox One Games With Gold: Time's Running Out To Get October's Games

By Chris Reed on Oct 29, 2018 08:27 pm

As we enter the final days of October, you might have Halloween on the mind. But there's more to life in the lead-up to November than ghosts, ghouls, candy, and costume parties. Xbox Live Gold members are running out of time to download October's Games with Gold. Once November 1 rolls around, you'll lose your chance to pick up free Xbox One and Xbox 360 games.

The Xbox One game in question is Overcooked, a co-op cooking game that drops you in increasingly unlikely kitchen scenarios. These might take place on a busy street, during an earthquake, or on a ship being buffeted by waves. Each cooking environment offers its own set of challenges as you and your partners try to make meals to order under tight time restrictions.

The Xbox 360 game--which can also be played on Xbox One--is Hitman: Blood Money. The fourth game in the series, it begins with Agent 47's higher-ups being targeted by a mysterious organization that wants them dead. Your job is to make your way through sandbox levels and using creative methods to assassinate your targets as you figure out who's behind the bad deeds.

One of the month's free games will remain available into November. That's the Xbox One dungeon crawler Victor Vran, a game about hunting monsters like skeletons and vampires; it's available until November 15. As for the rest of November's games, we'll have to wait for the official announcement from Microsoft, which should be coming very soon.

October 2018 Games with Gold

Xbox One

  • Overcooked (October 1-31)
  • Victor Vran (October 16-November 15)

Xbox 360

  • Stuntman: Ignition (October 1-15)

PlayStation Classic Mini Release Date, Pre-Order Guide, Full Game List

By Chris Reed on Oct 29, 2018 08:27 pm

Gamers from the '90s will be pleased to hear Sony is releasing a miniature PlayStation console that comes loaded with 20 original PlayStation games. Similar to Nintendo's NES and SNES Classics, the console itself will be significantly smaller than the original, though the included replica controllers will be full size. Dubbed the PlayStation Classic, it's set to release on December 3, exactly 24 years after the original system launched in Japan. It will cost $100 / $130 CAN.

It took a while, but Sony has finally announced the full lineup, which you can find below. Some of the highlights include Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms. The unit will ship with an HDMI cable, USB cable, and two wired controllers. Notably, it does not come with an AC adapter.

It's also worth noting that it ships with replicas of the original PS1 controller, which doesn't have analog sticks. In 1997, Sony released the DualShock controller for PS1, which many people regard as a significant improvement, thanks to its two analog sticks and vibration function. There's no word yet on whether Sony will release DualShock controllers for the PlayStation Classic.

Here's where you can place a pre-order.

Note that this item has been going in and out of stock at most of these retailers, so if you can't find it in stock now, you may have better luck if you check back later.

Horror Hit Halloween Remains Top Of US Box Office

By Dan Auty on Oct 29, 2018 08:04 pm

There is little surprise that a horror movie was the No.1 movie in the US in the last week of October, but the continued success of David Gordon Green's Halloween reboot/sequel is impressive. After scoring the second biggest October debut of all time last week, the film made an estimated $32 million in its second weekend on release. Worldwide, the movie has now made $172 million after 10 days on release, all from a reported $10 million production budget.

The week's highest new entry was the Gerard Butler-starring action thriller Hunter Killer. However, the movie could only manage to enter the chart at No.5, making an estimated $6.6 million. Given the reported budget was $40 million and it opened on more than 2,700 screens nationwide, this is a poor result.

The rest of the Top 5 remained the same as last week. In its fourth week of release, A Star Is Born continued its impressive run to hold on to second place. It has now made $253 million at the worldwide box office. The Spider-Man spin-off Venom remains at No.3, with a worldwide total of $508 million, while the spooky family sequel Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween is at No.4.

Elsewhere in the chart, the Young Adult adaptation The Hate U Give, moon landing drama First Man, animated kids movie Smallfoot, and comedy Night School occupied No.6 to No.9 respectably. Jonah Hill's directorial debut Mid90s entered the chart at No.10, rising from No.20, having expanded onto 1,200 screens across the US. The acclaimed horror remake Suspiria will be one to watch next week too--this weekend it set 2018's per screen record, with £179,000 earned from just two theaters. Next weekend it expands to 250 screens.

You can see the full Top 10 list for the October 26-28 US box office below, as compiled by Box Office Mojo.

US/Canada Box Office For October 26-28:

  1. Halloween — $32.4 million
  2. A Star Is Born — $14.1 million
  3. Venom — $10.8 million
  4. Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween — $7.5 million
  5. Hunter Killer — $6.6 million
  6. The Hate U Give — $5.1 million
  7. First Man — $4.9 million
  8. Smallfoot — $4.7 million
  9. Night School — $3.2 million
  10. Mid90s — $3.0 million

Pokemon Go Teases Bug Field Research Tasks For Next Month

By Steve Watts on Oct 29, 2018 07:40 pm

Pokemon Go has gotten spooky for Halloween, but with November almost upon us Niantic has started to tease the next seasonal event. The company hinted through Twitter that November will be all about catching bugs, with a big reward for completing your marks.

November will bring Field Research tasks all around Bug-type Pokemon. If you collect enough stamps during the month, you can get a Research Breakthrough and an opportunity to catch a Shedinja. Presumably this means that Nincada and Ninjask would also become available sometime in the month.

Shedinja is a Bug- and Ghost-type Pokemon that first appeared in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. It's the evolved form of Nincada, which would populate into an empty spot once that Pokemon involved into a Ninjask. The idea was that the exoskeleton of the Nincada would become its own individual Pokemon once the Ninjask emerged from it into the evolved form.

This means you have a few more days to complete the special Halloween event going on now. This year the event is debuting Drifloon, Drifblim, Stunky, and Skuntank--all Ghost and Dark type, appropriately enough. The store also added some new spooky gear, like a Gengar backpack. The new Special Research quest line for the month revolves around Spiritomb. And during the Halloween event, you can get double Candy for capturing Pokemon.

A Gym Raid battle this month introduces Giratina, the first Gen 4 Legendary in the game. That will last through November 20. Plus the next Community Day, scheduled for November 10, will feature Cyndaquil, the Pokemon Gold and Silver starter.

Pirates Of The Caribbean Facing Reboot Without Johnny Depp

By Steve Watts on Oct 29, 2018 07:40 pm

Pirates of the Caribbean has become one of Disney's longest running modern franchises, in part because of the iconic character Johnny Depp created, Captain Jack Sparrow. Now it appears Captain Jack may have sailed his last voyage, as the franchise is facing a possible reboot without Depp's involvement.

Speaking to Daily Mail, producer Stuart Beattie strongly suggested the franchise is moving in a different direction for the sixth installment. Beattie was the screenwriter behind the original breakout hit, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, and has remained on with writing and producing credits for subsequent films due to the use of his characters.

"I think [Depp]'s had a great run," said Beattie. "Obviously he's made that character his own and it's become the thing that he's most famous for now. It's been great for him and it's been great for us."

In the same interview, he implied his own involvement in the franchise is over, which would suggest that the studio is done using his characters and ready to start from a clean slate. "There's that saying, 'Don't frown because it's over, smile because it happened.' The fact that they're rebooting something that you did means that you did something that was worth rebooting. It's an honor to be rebooted."

While the original films focused heavily on the love story of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley), Depp's Jack Sparrow took on a life of its own and he became a primary focus of the other two films in that original trilogy, which wrapped up the Turner-Swan story. From there, the Jack Sparrow character went on to lead in two more films: 2011's On Stranger Tides and 2017's Dead Men Tell No Tales. A sixth film is currently in production.

Xbox Game Pass Will To Expand To PC, Says Microsoft Boss

By Steve Watts on Oct 29, 2018 07:39 pm

Microsoft has plans to expand the Game Pass subscription service from Xbox One to PC. CEO Satya Nadella reportedly mentioned during an earnings call that bringing Game Pass to PC will help increase the strength of the Xbox brand.

Ars Technica reports that Nadella didn't give any indication of when to expect the subscription to expand, or if it would be included within the same all-you-can-eat price as the Xbox version. It would make some sense for the service to be all-encompassing, given that its current "Play Anywhere" initiative has made PC and Xbox versions of games available across both platforms regardless of where you bought it.

On the Xbox One, though, Game Pass has an isolated marketplace for such a service, competing only somewhat with the more niche EA Access. A PC subscription service would face competition from other similar monthly services at various price tiers. An Xbox One Game Pass subscription currently costs $10 a month. Expanding that pass to include PC games could come through an optional extra fee without paying for an entirely separate subscription.

Microsoft made a bold play for Game Pass by announcing early this year that it would feature all first-party games, on the day of release. That has included big names like Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 4. The company also works with publishers to introduce a new slate of third-party Game Pass games every month, and the list is growing pretty large. It also made Game Pass part of its All Access plan, which bundles the console, Game Pass, and Xbox Live Gold together.

Meanwhile, Sony appears to be keen on competing with Microsoft, changing its PlayStation Now service to allow players to download games. PlayStation Now had been a strictly streaming service, which Microsoft will be exploring in more depth next year with Project xCloud.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Here's How To Access Pre-Order Bonuses And Special Edition Content

By Steve Watts on Oct 29, 2018 07:39 pm

Red Dead Redemption 2 offers a bounty of goodies for pre-orders and its two special editions, but you'll have to wait before claiming many of them. The game's first chapter sets up many of the mechanics and story information you'll need, so you'll have to progress past at least that point before you can start to access your extras.

Keep in mind that in each of these cases, you'll also need to enter a code to enable the bonuses. Those codes can be found on slips included with your game disc. Even after entering the codes, though, the bonuses won't necessarily be accessible immediately. In case you're wondering where to find your loot, we've compiled a list of the goodies below.

War Horse -- The War Horse bonus is included with all pre-orders of Red Dead Redemption 2. It's accessible once you've progressed through the story mode enough to browse the available horses in the Stables.

Dappled Black Thoroughbred -- This special horse is included in Special and Ultimate editions. Like the War Horse, it's accessible once you can browse the Stables.

Eagle Talon Talisman and Iguana Scale Trinket -- Both of these bonuses are included in all Special and Ultimate editions, and they can be equipped at the start of Chapter 2. The Eagle Talon Talisman can be found in the Wardrobe and the Iguana Scale Trinket is in the Satchel under the Kit tab.

Nuevo Paraiso Gunslinger Outfit -- This outfit is included in Special and Ultimate editions. You can access it through your Wardrobe after completing Chapter 1.

Volcanic Pistol, Pump Action Shotgun, and Lancaster Varmint Rifle -- These specialty guns are included with Special and Ultimate Editions. They can be picked up for free at any Gunsmith after completing Chapter 1.

Bank Robbery Mission and Gang Hideout -- These are both available for Special and Ultimate editions. The Del Lobos gang hideout can be found in the world during story progression. The Bank Robbery Mission will also be available through story progression, and the game will notify you when it becomes available. If you miss the opportunity, you can find it in the Story menu to replay it.

Red Dead 2's Mobile Companion App Is Live, Here's How It Works

By Steve Watts on Oct 29, 2018 07:38 pm

Red Dead Redemption 2 has released, and along with it comes the mobile companion app. The app links up with your copy of the game and helps you keep track of your location with an interactive map, along with a handful of other features so you can take the Old West with you around in your pocket.

The map lets you set waypoints and track your position in real-time. Aside from that handy widget, you can also view the game journal, shop for clothing, check your game progress, and read the game manual. It also links up with Rockstar's Social Club. The app itself is free on both iOS and Android, but both versions offer a $10 in-app purchase of the official strategy guide. The social club integration may be a boon to your gang of outlaws when Red Dead Online launches in November.

Perhaps most significantly, the companion app's code includes references to PC, according to Rockstar Intel. Whether this signals the development of Red Dead 2 for PC remains to be seen, but it does provide those hoping for that to happen with some small reason to get excited.

If you're a no-good scoundrel in need of more creative methods of getting ahead in the world, check out our full list of known cheats. And keep in mind some of those side missions have a time limit and can expire if you don't get to them quickly enough.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5

To get started on the right foot, check out our list of essential tips for beginners, and refresh yourself on the story from the first game. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a massive and ambitious game, and as noted in our review, it stands on its own even without knowing the details of John Marston's story.

"While Red Dead Redemption was mostly focused on John Marston's story, Red Dead 2 is about the entire Van der Linde gang--as a community, as an idea, and as the death rattle of the Wild West. It is about Arthur, too, but as the lens through which you view the gang, his very personal, very messy story supports a larger tale," wrote critic Kallie Plagge. "Some frustrating systems and a predictable mission structure end up serving that story well, though it does take patience to get through them and understand why. Red Dead Redemption 2 is an excellent prequel, but it's also an emotional, thought-provoking story in its own right, and it's a world that is hard to leave when it's done."

Will Red Dead Redemption 2 Release On PC? A Look At What We Know So Far

By Steve Watts on Oct 29, 2018 07:38 pm

Red Dead Redemption 2's release has come for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Those who prefer to play games on PC may be rewarded with their patience eventually, but as of now we have no indication that Red Dead 2 will ever come to PC. That doesn't mean there is no hope at all, though.

So far the studio has given no official indication of a PC port incoming. There was some hope when a programmer seemingly outed a PC version online, but it remains unclear if that was merely a mistake. [Update: The latest glimmer of hope for PC fans comes via Rockstar Intel, which reports that the Red Dead 2 companion app includes references to PC in its code. It's possible these don't mean anything or are being misinterpreted, but it does bear noting.]

The most recent Rockstar game, Grand Theft Auto V, did make the jump to PC after its initial console release. Following its original release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, Rockstar released upgraded Playstation 4 and Xbox One ports the following year, and then a PC port in 2015. Those later ports were widely lauded for their improved technical underpinnings, and the PC version has enjoyed an active mod community.

Red Dead Redemption 2 appears very similar to GTAV in key ways. It's a technical powerhouse that's already pushing the current console generation to its limit. While the Xbox One X came out ahead in a performance analysis, both it and the high-end PS4 Pro were said to be hitting the upper limits of their processing power. We may be on the verge of another console generation to debut in the next few years, so a port to those with some added bells and whistles could make sense. And if that happens, a PC port would be likely as well. Plus Red Dead 2 is already receiving positive reviews and helping Take-Two's stock price, so another shot in the arm from a port would be welcome for the company.

Then again, Rockstar has been inconsistent with ports in general and PC support more specifically. The original Red Dead Redemption never made the trip to PC, and in fact is still only available on PS3 and Xbox 360--along with Xbox One, via backwards compatibility.

Red Dead Redemption 2 could come to PC in a matter of years, but for the time being, your best bet is to saddle up on the current generation of consoles. If you need some help recalling the events of the first game, check out our story recap. Your console decision may come down to performance--keeping in mind that Xbox One X performed the best in a test, but PS4 has exclusive content for 30 days.

New Fortnite Skins Leaked In Latest Update 6.20

By Steve Watts on Oct 29, 2018 07:37 pm

The new 6.20 patch for Fortnite adds Fortnitemares, this year's holiday event. But as usual, the update also tucked away a few surprise cosmetics in its nooks and crannies that have been uncovered by data miners. Some are pieces we've seen before in one form or another, while many are brand new.

Fortnite Intel reports that the cosmetics include the Summit Striker, Dante, Rosa, and Frostbite skins--the last of which is part of the Deep Freeze bundle announced for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. Dante and Rosa appear to pay homage to the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead, which traditionally takes place just after Halloween.

New back bling includes the Summit Striker's Top Notch and Frostbite's Freezing Point, plus a Spirit Cape, Galactic Disc, and Calavera. New gliders include Discovery and Spirit, while the new pickaxes are Chill Axe, Stellar Axe, Longhorn, and Six String Striker. The update also included a few new emotes: Busy, Criss Cross, Headbanger, and Jugglin'.

The big new addition, of course, was Fortnitemares. The spooky new themed mode allows you to earn special new items, including a new type of skin that responds to how you play. Check out our challenge guide for details on how to earn yourself some sweet special loot. Fortnitemares challenges are planned to roll over every few days all the way through November 26.
