Undertale Announcement Teased For This Halloween

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 31, 2018 12:08 am

Toby Fox, creator of the critically acclaimed indie RPG Undertale, took to Twitter to tease an upcoming announcement for his next project. Fox will tweet out the announcement on the Undertale Twitter account on October 31.

"For those who completed Undertale, it's really important that you check [the Undertale Twitter account] 24 hours from now," Fox tweeted on October 30 at 6:02 AM PT / 9:02 AM ET / 2 PM BST. "I want to make something new," he continued, "and it all begins with your feedback." Fox provided no additional hints as to what the announcement might be, only that those who wish to participate in helping him with his next project will require Windows PC or macOS X.

The last major Undertale announcement was the reveal of a Nintendo Switch port, as well as a new physical collector's edition of the game that comes with a golden heart-shaped locket that plays music. Fox has kept further details about the game's future close to the chest, and fans have wondered if Undertale might be getting a sequel that spawns a franchise. The indie title has dozens of in-game secrets, a meta narrative, and references to the Mother series--some of which are still unexplained. Players have theorized these details might be explored in future Undertale games.

In our Undertale review, Tyler Hicks gave the game a 9/10, writing, "Without spoiling the many ways it will screw with your expectations, it isn't possible to truly capture how wonderful Undertale is. You wouldn't know it with a passing glance, but it's one of the most progressive and innovative RPGs to come in a long time, breaking down tradition for the sake of invention, with great success."

Undertale is available on PS4, Switch, PS Vita, and PC.

Fortnite Challenges: Flaming Hoops, Radar Signs, And More (Week 5)

By Tamoor Hussain on Oct 31, 2018 12:04 am

Alongside the ongoing Fortnitemares challenges, Fortnite: Battle Royale players have reached Week 5 of Season 6. As with every Thursday weekly reset, that means there's a whole new batch of weekly challenges for you to complete. Doing these is vital if you want to unlock fresh cosmetics, as completing challenges rewards you with the Battle Stars needed to level up your Battle Pass. We've got a breakdown of Week 5's challenges below--including the flaming hoops and radar signs ones--but if you want to catch up on every week so far, we've got a comprehensive Fortnite Season 6 challenge guide that'll help you do that.

This week's challenges in the free section, which is available to everyone, involve recording a speed of 27 or more on five different Radar Signs. On top that, you'll need to jump through five flaming hoops while in a Shopping Kart or ATK. There's also a three-part challenge that begins with doing damage using Tactical Shotguns.

The other challenges are only available to those with a paid Battle Pass. These ask players to kill two enemies from closer than 5m away, do 500 damage with SMGs, kill two enemies with a Minigun, and do 200 damage with standard pistols. Take a look at the full list of challenges below.

Fallout 76 Beta's First PS4 / PC Beta Test Arrives Today

By Kevin Knezevic on Oct 30, 2018 11:28 pm

Beta tests for Bethesda's upcoming online RPG, Fallout 76, continue to take place, but as was the case with the first sessions, they have only been available on Xbox One. PS4 and PC players won't be left out for too much longer, however, as Bethesda has now shared the dates and times for a number of upcoming beta sessions.

Following the two betas that took place this past weekend, Bethesda will hold its first multiplatform beta session today, October 30, making that the first chance PS4 and PC players will have to jump into Fallout 76. As before, the beta will only be accessible during a brief window of time, beginning at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET and ending at 8 PM PT / 11 PM ET.

Three other multiplatform beta sessions are planned throughout the rest of the week; you can see the full list of dates and times below. The reason for such a sporadic schedule, Bethesda says, is to "stress test and break the game," hence why the beta is only accessible during "targeted time frames."

In order to qualify for the beta, you'll need to pre-order Fallout 76 on your platform of choice. Once you've done that, you'll need to follow the steps outlined on Bethesda's FAQ page. If you're playing on PS4 or Xbox One, you'll also need to have an Xbox Live Gold or PS Plus subscription to participate.

Fallout 76 launches on November 14. If you've participated in the beta, you'll be able to carry your progress over to the full game. As another incentive to pre-order the title, players will receive 500 Atoms--Fallout's in-game currency--to purchase cosmetic items from the game's shop. New Resident Evil 2 Remake Trailer Reveals Special Edition Costumes

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 30, 2018 11:13 pm

Capcom has released a new trailer for the Resident Evil 2 remake. The video showcases both protagonists, Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, in their respective alternate costumes that come included in the Deluxe and Collector's editions of the game.

Claire has a Military and Elza Walker outfit. Elza was the planned female protagonist for Resident Evil 1.5. However, when the game was ultimately scrapped, the motorcycle racer's backstory was reworked and used for Resident Evil 2's Claire. Meanwhile Leon only has one exclusive skin, the Arklay Sheriff. Both characters have a Noir costume, which can be paired with a Noir filter to give the game a classic vibe.

All of Claire and Leon's costumes come included in Resident Evil 2 remake's special editions. In the Deluxe Edition, you also get an exclusive pistol and the option to swap the remake's soundtrack with the music of the original Resident Evil. In the Collector's Edition, the costumes come with everything in the Deluxe Edition plus a 12-inch Leon statue, an art book, and R.P.D. renovation blueprints. The Collector's Edition is exclusive to GameStop and comes packaged in a special R.P.D. item box. Both the editions are available for pre-order.

The Resident Evil 2 remake releases on January 25, 2019 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The remake will make slight alterations to the original Resident Evil 2's formula, but will remain true to the gaming classic. Back in 1998, we gave Resident Evil 2 a 8.9/10 in our review, commending it as a game with "unique camera angles, storyline, graphics, sound effects, and music" that "surpasses its predecessor in nearly every aspect of gameplay..."

PlayStation Classic Has Exclusive Games In Japan, Including Acclaimed RPG Parasite Eve

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 30, 2018 11:13 pm

Sony has announced the full lineup of games included in the PlayStation Classic, the miniature version of the company's first console. Unlike Nintendo's SNES Classic, the PS Classic's appearance is the same regardless of where you buy it. However, the Japanese version of the console comes with a different game lineup.

The American, UK, and Japanese versions of the PlayStation Classic all include Ridge Racer Type 4, Intelligent Qube, Jumping Flash, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Tekken 3, Battle Arena Toshinden, Resident Evil Director's Cut (referred to by its original Biohazard title in the Japanese version), Final Fantasy VII, Mr. Driller, Revelations: Persona, Metal Gear Solid, and Wild Arms. From there, the western and eastern versions of the console differ. The Japanese version focuses on RPGs and side-scrolling shooters, while the American and UK versions of the PlayStation Classic include more 2D action and puzzle games.

PlayStation Classic Japan Game Exclusives

  • Arc the Lad
  • Arc the Lad 2
  • Armored Core
  • Gradius Gaiden
  • XI [sai]
  • SaGa Frontier
  • G Darius
  • Parasite Eve

PlayStation Classic America And UK Game Exclusives

  • Cool Boarders 2
  • Destruction Derby
  • Grand Theft Auto
  • Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
  • Rayman
  • Syphon Filter
  • Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six
  • Twisted Metal

We're happy to see two of the 14 PS1 games we wanted on the PlayStation Classic--Metal Gear and Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee--make it onto the western release of the console, as well as entries from Grand Theft Auto and Twisted Metal--two series we wanted to see. That said, we're jealous of Japan getting Parasite Eve and the first two Arc the Lad games, all three of which are critically acclaimed RPGs.

The PlayStation Classic releases worldwide on December 3, the anniversary of the launch of the original PlayStation in 1994. The console is already up for pre-order if you want one, whether you want to buy your country's version or import the one from another.

New Netflix Movies, TV Series, And Originals Added This Week (US)

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 30, 2018 11:11 pm

As is tradition at this point, a couple dozen new shows and movies are being added to Netflix at the start of the month. This November sees a lot of movies being added right at the start, with a few TV series and Netflix Originals following in the days after.

For this week, you'll see most of Netflix's newest add-ons going live on November 1. Marvel dominates the first day of the month with three new movies. 2016's Dr. Strange--starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme--is the only one that's a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that doesn't discount the quality of the other two. Planet Hulk--based on the storyline that inspired the events of Thor: Ragnarok--is an animated film that takes place just prior to Marvel's Civil War storyline. In Planet Hulk, the Illuminati are tired of cleaning up after the Hulk, so they trick him into a shuttle that sends him to another planet, Sakaar, where he's forced into competing in gladiator matches. Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow, another animated film, is about Ultron killing every member of the Avengers except Iron Man, and the Avengers' children picking up the fight against the killer AI once they grow up.

Most of Netflix's original series and movies come to the streaming service on Friday, November 3. Most notable in the bunch is House of Cards Season 6, which finishes the critically acclaimed series. House of Cards returns without series' star Kevin Spacey, who was removed from the show following sexual abuse allegations. Instead, the new season follows Claire Underwood--who's played by Robin Wright--the President of the United States with an agenda all her own.

The full list of new series, movies, and Originals coming to Netflix this week can be found below. If you're already looking forward to following weeks, you can check out the entire November Netflix schedule too.

Rainbow Six Siege Mid-Season Update Balances Operators: Here Are The Full Patch Notes

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 30, 2018 11:11 pm

Ubisoft has announced the release schedule for the mid-season update for Rainbow Six Siege. The update was tested on the PC version of the game last week and is set to go live across all platforms this week.

Patch Y3S3.2 has already been deployed on the PC version of Siege. The update goes live on Xbox One and PS4 on October 31. The servers on the PC version of Siege faced about an hour of downtown due to maintenance when the update went live, so we can probably expect the same for the console versions of the game this Halloween. Ubisoft has not revealed the exact timeframe the update will go live on Xbox One and PS4.

The full patch notes for Siege's newest update can be found on the game's main website, but we've also listed the highlights below. The patch balances both Clash and Maestro, as well as two weapons. Most of the update fixes bugs in the game's level design and Operators.

Rainbow Six Siege is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The game is currently in the midst of a limited-time, Halloween-themed event called Mad House. Mad House lasts until October 31 and adds a haunted variation of the House map to Siege. 10 of Siege's Operators--Finka, Jager, Vigil, Thermite, Valkyrie, Pulse, Hibana, Mira, Buck, and Ash--also get exclusive holiday skins that transform them into monsters.

New Black Ops 4 Update Balances Zombies Mode; Here Are The Full Patch Notes

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 30, 2018 11:10 pm

Treyarch has released another update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. This one balances Zombies mode and launches the Black Market across all platforms.

At Black Ops 4's launch, Zombies was slightly unfair for anyone tackling the mode solo or in a team of two. This new update primarily makes the game mode a little bit easier for players who don't have a full team of four, but it also adjusts Elixirs that were either overpowered or underpowered. According to the update's patch notes, solo players and two-person teams will now earn experience more quickly, and last zombie bleed-out time will be twice as long. Hellhounds also won't spawn as often in Blood of the Dead and Classified during mixed rounds, and players will be able to use four unique Elixirs per round from now on.

The update also makes the Black Market live across all platforms, so every Black Ops 4 player can now start earning the items offered in Operation: First Strike. The Black Market contains items specifically for multiplayer and Blackout, including signature weapons, gestures, outfits, calling cards, tags, stickers, and new characters. Starting October 27, a limited-time Halloween event will go live that offers cosmetic items with a "spooky seasonal" theme.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Three Classic Resident Evil Games Are Coming To Nintendo Switch

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 30, 2018 11:09 pm

Capcom has announced Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, and Resident Evil 4 are getting Nintendo Switch ports. All three ports are currently scheduled for 2019, but a specific release dates haven't been revealed yet. Capcom tweeted that more info is coming "soon."

The original Resident Evil first released in 1996, and it went on to spawn an entire franchise of zombie-killing video games. Some, like the 2002 prequel Resident Evil 0, are also third-person survival horror games, while others are more action-centric or play out in first-person. 2005's Resident Evil 4 is widely considered as the best in the series, and received critical acclaim upon release.

When Resident Evil first released, we gave it an 8.2/10 in our review, praising it for "the gorgeous, photorealistic, dilapidated rooms and abomination-filled corridors" and describing it as a "genuinely" scary experience. In our Resident Evil 0 review, we gave the prequel an 8/10, wishing the game had acknowledged all "the things that have made Resident Evil a nuisance to some" but enjoying the gameplay and story all the same. We awarded a 9.6/10 in our Resident Evil 4 review, assuring that the game would blow away anyone who's "entertained by any other mature-rated action game."

While Switch owners may appreciate them, this certainly won't be the first time these games been ported to another platform. The original Resident Evil is available on Playstation, PC, and Nintendo DS. There's also an HD remaster for GameCube and Wii, as well as a remake for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC. Resident Evil 0 is available on GameCube and Wii, with an HD remaster on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC. Resident Evil 4 can be played on GameCube, PS2, PC, Wii, and mobile, with a HD remaster available for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, and PS3.

The last new game in the main-line franchise was Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which went first-person but retained the survival horror roots of the original game. A remake for Resident Evil 2 is in the works and scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on January 25 in 2019.

Fallout 76's Minimum PC Specs Are Higher Than Fallout 4's Requirements

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 30, 2018 11:09 pm

Bethesda has announced the minimum PC system requirements you'll need in order to run Fallout 76. You'll be able to try Fallout 76 on PC for the first time during the October 30 beta, and the progress you make will carry over into the full game when it launches.

The PC specs for Fallout 76 are more demanding than the ones for Fallout 4, so if your setup could barely run the latter, you might want to consider upgrading before playing the former. At the very minimum, you'll need to be playing on Windows 7 and running on an Intel i5 Core processor. Bethesda recommends you go Windows 8.1 or 10, though, and run the game on an Intel Core i7 processor.

The minimum and recommended PC specs can be found on Fallout 76's FAQ page, but we've listed everything you need to know below.

Fallout 76 PC Specs

Minimum

  • Requires 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6600k 3.5 GHz/AMD Ryzen 3 1300X 3.5 GHz or equivalent
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 285 2GB or equivalent
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Storage: 60GB of free disk space

Recommended

  • Requires 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 7/8.1/10
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6 GHz/AMD Ryzen 5 1500X 3.5 GHz
  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 970 4GB/AMD R9 290X 4GB
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Storage: 60GB of free disk space

The second Fallout 76 beta is exclusive for Xbox One and starts on October 27 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM BST. This beta won't go for as long as the first one, only lasting two hours. However, another two-hour Xbox One beta will start the very next day at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM BST. The next beta after that is the one scheduled for October 30, and it will be live for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Bethesda tweeted out that the first Xbox One beta for Fallout 76 was an "amazing start." You can watch us play through the first beta, which we thought went pretty well all things considered. We did suffer one game crash and there was a bit of trouble when we tried to join an in-game party, but we only had severe frame rate drops when there were dozens of enemies on the screen. Prior to the beta's launch, Bethesda published a statement that lag issues are to be expected.

Fallout 76 launches on November 14 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 30, 2018 11:08 pm

Update #2 is now live in the Xbox version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The new update implements several features and items that are already live in the PC version of the battle royale game, but it adds limited-time Halloween-themed skins as well. Because the maintenance period around the update went on longer than expected, PUBG is giving away free items and BP to players who log into the game in the next week.

The update adds two new weapons to PUBG. The first, the MK47 Mutant, is an assault rifle that can be found on Erangel, Miramar, and Sanhok. It takes 7.62mm bullets and can be fired in single shot or two-round burst modes. It's ideal for mid- to long-range combat. The new Beryl M762 is also an assault rifle that can be found on all three maps. It also uses 7.62mm ammo but has much lower bullet damage. It does have a much higher fire rate, though--even faster than the AKM--making it ideal for close-range combat.

New vehicles have been added to Sanhok as well. The scooter is a two-seat vehicle that offers an increased turning circle in comparison to the motorcycle, at the cost of overall speed. The new Tukshai is even slower, but it sits three people and is specifically designed to maneuver through Sanhok's hill and forest covered terrain.

Update #2 includes seven Halloween-themed items and costumes as well, which will only be available until November 20 at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET / November 21 at 2 AM BST. One of the items, a haunted pumpkin mask, is available for free when you log into the lobby, but only until November 6 at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET / November 7 at 12 AM BST. The other six items and costumes will need to be bought from PUBG's in-game store. We've listed them, and their prices, below.

Rainbow Six Siege's Halloween Mad House Event Lasts Until October 31

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 30, 2018 11:07 pm

Ubisoft has announced a limited-time Halloween-themed event for Rainbow Six: Siege. Called Mad House, the event is going on right now and will continue until October 31.

The Mad House event adds a new haunted variation of the House map to Siege. It gives the classic map a ghoulish glow and covers the walls in Halloween-themed decorations, such as spooky paintings and cobwebs. The event also adds special skins that transform 10 of Siege's Operators--Finka, Jager, Vigil, Thermite, Valkyrie, Pulse, Hibana, Mira, Buck, and Ash--into monstrous versions of themselves. Jager becomes a living skeleton, for example, and Valkyrie transforms into a possessed nun with demonic eyes.

Playing on the haunted House map allows you to unlock up to two Crimsonveil packs through Ubisoft Club Challenges. The first pack is unlocked for killing 30 enemies in the haunted House, while the second is for killing 60. You'll also unlocked a pack just by logging in during the event, and additional packs can be purchased with R6 credits. Opening packs unlocks one of the 10 special Operator skins, or one of the 12 Halloween-themed weapon skins and unique charms.

Ubisoft has confirmed that Crimsonveil packs will not offer duplicates. So after unlocking your one free pack, buying the 21 Crimsonveil pack bundle for 6300 R6 credits will be enough to unlock everything. It will be more than enough if you get the two packs from completing the haunted House map's challenges. If you can't earn enough credits to unlock all the packs you need prior to Halloween, you can purchase R6 credits with real money. 6300 R6 credits translates into $50 USD.

Rainbow Six: Siege is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Destiny 2 Wanted: Gravetide Summoner Guide (Oct. 30 - Nov. 6)

By Chris Pereira on Oct 30, 2018 11:07 pm

One of the many things that is shuffled as part of Destiny 2's weekly reset on Tuesdays is the slate of bounties offered by Spider in the Tangled Shore. The big new update makes some of these more desirable than in the past by offering the newly renamed Masterwork Cores as rewards. But there's one in particular that has been worth doing since the launch of Forsaken because of the Powerful gear it offers as a reward. The new weekly reset has brought us back to Wanted: Gravetide Summoner. Here's what to know before diving in.

Gravetide Summoner is one of the bounties we've seen repeat more than once, but spread across two different Lost Sectors. Your goal, as always, is to do an Adventure on Titan, but the Lost Sector this time is found on The Rig, located on Titan.

To begin, you'll take five Ghost Fragments to Spider on the Tangled Shore to buy the bounty. This unlocks the Adventure on Titan, which has you complete a Lost Sector. At the end you'll find Gravetide Summoner, which is initially immune to all damage.

To make it vulnerable, you'll have to kill the nearby ogre. It has a large health pool, but you deal increased damage to it by taking out special thrall enemies (the ones with yellow health bars that periodically attack in waves). Taking these out grants you a temporary buff that causes you to deal more damage to the ogre. With the ogre down, finish off Gravetide Summoner to complete the bounty, which gets you some Powerful gear.

Alongside this refreshed Spider bounty is a new Ascendant Challenge. This presents you with a repeat Ascendant Realm area to tangle with; it amounts to some careful platforming and a boss you have to kill, but the associated bounty from Petra offers another piece of Powerful gear.

Xbox One Backwards Compatibility List Gets Four More Games

By Jordan Ramée on Oct 30, 2018 11:04 pm

Microsoft has announced another four games have been added to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list. You can now play Just Cause, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate HD on Xbox One, regardless if you own the physical or digital versions of the games. If you do own the games digitally already, just head to the Ready to Download section on the My Games and Apps page of your Xbox One dashboard. They should be there.

In our Just Cause review, Ryan Davis gave the game a 7.2/10, writing, "Just Cause will evoke strong love-it-or-hate-it reactions from people for a lot of reasons. The game's amoral stance on the complicated issues surrounding US-sponsored regime changes in third-world countries will rub some people the wrong way, while others will be annoyed by its fast-and-loose approach to basic physics." Now that the first game has been added to Xbox One backwards compatibility, all four Just Cause games are available to play on the console.

For the Castlevania games, Peter Brown gave Lords of Shadow a 7/10, Mirror of Fate HD an 8/10, and the third game a 7/10. He described the first game as "a good start for a series in need of some new blood," the second as "a great addition to the series," and Lords of Shadow 2 as a finale that "wraps up the Lords of Shadow trilogy with authority..."

Castlevania's story has reached a new audience with its popular Netflix animated series, which just debuted with its second season. In our Castlevania Season 2 review, Michael Rougeau wrote, "One thing Castlevania Season 2 definitely does have is buildup. All the intrigue and tension is leading somewhere--there's never doubt of that. By the end of the sixth episode, with just two more to go, the pieces seem to finally be falling into place. Belmont is fighting demons, Sypha is doing magic, and Dracula is--well, Dracula is still brooding, but the rest of his forces are finally at war. The action is still creatively executed, and fights look cool."

Destiny 2 Ascendant Challenge Location (Oct. 30 - Nov. 6) -- How And Where To Do The Bounty

By Chris Pereira on Oct 30, 2018 10:55 pm

The latest weekly reset in Destiny 2 is a significant one, as it coincides with both the launch of a major new update and the start of the Festival of the Lost's murder mystery questline. But in terms of the standard refresh, another Ascendant Challenge is now available, this one returning from the third week of Forsaken. Here's where its portal is located and what to do inside.

If you've done an Ascendant Challenge before, you'll have an idea of how this goes overall. Start out by buying the appropriate bounty from Petra in the Dreaming City. Alongside that, you'll need a Tincture of Queensfoil. Once you consume that you get the Ascendance buff that allows you to see the Taken portal--after you've found it.

This particular portal is located in the Spire of Keres; you can see its location in the video above. Go through it to visit the Ascendant Plane, where are tasked with climbing a tower made of rocks without dying. Enemies will try to snipe you, and Taken rifts will try to boop you off the tower to your death. Be careful with where you move as you go toward the top; once you're there, kill the boss to complete the Ascendant Challenge.

Your reward is a chest that may not have anything special inside, but you'll also complete the bounty you picked up from Petra. This offers a piece of Powerful gear, making this a task worth tackling.

As noted above, the prerequisite for doing an Ascendant Challenge--aside from access to the Dreaming City, which only comes after finishing the Forsaken campaign--is a Tincture of Queensfoil. These can be obtained through chests and Public Events in the Dreaming City, but that's not the only means.

The video above details a location you can go to trade 50 Baryon Boughs, the planetary material you earn in the Dreaming City, for a Tincture of Queensfoil. If you're desperate to get your hands on one to try the Ascendant Challenge, follow our video guide to help you find your way to the spot where you can trade with Huginn.

Destiny 2 Patch Notes Detail How Update 2.0.5 Makes Getting The Best Loot Less Annoying

By Phil Hornshaw on Oct 30, 2018 10:30 pm

It's the Destiny 2 patch we've been waiting for. The October 30 patch for the game, which drops alongside the weekly reset, brings a load of quality-of-life improvements to Destiny 2, including a handful that should make getting the best loot in the game a little less frustrating.

Along with Update 2.0.5 itself, Bungie released patch notes that detail some behind-the-scenes alterations that won't be super obvious to players, but should lessen the grind for some Exotics and unique weapons a little less grindy.

The change that's likely to affect the most players is the alteration to Exotic drops. Right now, there's a low chance that players will get Exotic engram drops from enemies while they play through the game, but the item that comes out of those drops is random, which results in a lot of duplicate Exotics. Bungie has altered those drops so that Destiny 2 takes your collection of Exotics into account when determining which item is in the engram you receive. Exotics you don't have will be weighted higher than those you do, which should increase the chance of getting something new out of random drops. Bungie also changed things so that when you do get a duplicate Exotic, the chances that it's a piece of armor, rather than a gun, will be higher--because armor has random perks and guns don't. That way, even if you do get a duplicate Exotic armor, there's a chance it'll be different or better than what you already have.

More players should have a chance at getting another new Exotic that came with Forsaken, Destiny 2's latest expansion: Malfeasance. The Exotic hand cannon can only be earned through a series of quests, and those quests only kick off when players happen to encounter and kill a specific Primeval enemy when playing Gambit matches, called the Ascendant Servitor. Update 2.0.5 ups the likelihood that the Ascendant Servitor will appear in Gambit matches, which should give more players a chance at unlocking Malfeasance.

In the area of non-Exotic unique loot, Bungie has made grinding Nightfall Strikes more fruitful. Each Nightfall has specific loot that only drops in it, but the chances of receiving that stuff are usually pretty low. Destiny 2 now tracks how many Nightfalls you've played without receiving a unique drop, and each time you don't get one, the chances you will in the next Nightfall are increased.

There are a bunch of other balancing and rule changes that come in Update 2.0.5, which you can read about on Bungie's website. They also include a nerf to Sleeper Simulant, a gun that has dominated Gambit and Crucible matches since Forsaken came out, that's sure to bum out a few players--and probably make several more happy to use a different weapon for a change.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Glitch Gives Out Tons Of Gold Bars

By Steve Watts on Oct 30, 2018 10:28 pm

Red Dead Redemption 2 hearkens back to a simpler time when America's paper money wasn't yet inflated. Ten dollars was a lot of money back then! But with one weird trick you can render the game economy functionally meaningless by roping in thousands of dollars in seconds.

As found by Mida Life Crisis on YouTube, you can exploit a glitch to trick the game into thinking you haven't picked up a gold bar, even as it repeatedly gets added to your inventory. It basically boils down to finding the sheriff's office in the ruined town of Limpany. As detailed in the video, the desk in this office has a gold bar, but you can break it by saving your game just as Arthur bends down to pick it up and then reloading the save. That puts several duplicates of the gold bar in the desk overlapping, so you can pick up 30 of them at a time. That sells for a cash value of $15,000, which basically makes you the Old West version of a lottery winner.

When we tested this for ourselves, we used a slightly different method. Instead of bending down and saving, we simply saved after opening the lockbox, but before taking either of the two items--a gold bar and a pamphlet. Traveling back to the lockbox revealed only the gold bar without the pamphlet. It's crucial to hold the Take button so that Arthur picks up gold bars continuously. Also, be sure to load up the correct save, because in another of our tests, hitting the wrong one seems to have broken the glitch from then on.

Of course, be warned that like any bug, taking advantage of this could have unforeseen consequences, so use at your own risk. If you do want to take advantage, keep in mind that exploits like this tend to be patched or hotfixed relatively quickly to secure the integrity of the game. If you want to ill-got some gains, you'd better be hasty.

This isn't the only way to game the system in Red Dead 2, and there are certainly other ways to make some money quickly. Check out some of our favorite cheats, and while you're at it find where to get the best horses and animal pelts. Plus you should read up on what exactly to do with that legendary bear pelt.

Zelda TV Show In Discussions With Netflix's Castlevania Boss - Report

By Jeremy Winslow on Oct 30, 2018 10:23 pm

Video game-to-movie adaptations have been rough in the past, but Netflix's Castlevania proves that the interactive medium can be adapted into the storytelling format of a TV show. The Wrap reports that a television series based on Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda franchise could happen, and Adi Shankar (Broken City, Castlevania) is in talks to produce it.

The news comes via Shankar's Instagram, where he posted a photo stating he's "working with an iconic Japanese gaming company to adapt one of their iconic video game series into a series." Though The Wrap states it's learned exclusively that the company is Nintendo and the series is The Legend of Zelda, there are several companies and several franchises that could be smartly adapted into a television series. Shankar revealed that he'll announce what game series he's adapting into a series on Friday, November 16.

Adi Shankar is the executive producer and showrunner of Netflix's Castlevania, so it makes sense he's in talks to produce The Legend of Zelda television adaptation. Aside from Castlevania, Shankar's credits also include 2012's Killing Them Softly (with Brad Pitt and Ben Mendelsohn), 2014's The Voices (with Ryan Reynolds and Anna Kendrick), 2017's Bodied (with Calum Worthy and Charlamagne tha God), and more.

Nintendo declined to comment on the report, so we may have to wait for Shankar's announcement for confirmation one way or the other.

All eight episodes of Castlevania's second season hit Netflix on October 26. In our review, we hoped that Season 2 would feel more complete. However, we wrote that "it feels more like Season 1 was the first act, and this is simply a continuation, and the extra room has been spent developing new characters while the old ones tread water."

Fallout 76 Has Microtransactions, But Bethesda Insists It's Not Pay-To-Win

By Eddie Makuch on Oct 30, 2018 10:22 pm

Like many other big games, the soon-to-launch Fallout 76 will feature microtransactions. But Bethesda boss Pete Hines doesn't want you to worry about them. Speaking to GameSpot at PAX Aus, Hines stressed that Bethesda will only offer cosmetics to buy with real money, not items that can affect gameplay.

This is a crucial point given that, unlike previous entries in the series, Fallout 76 is a multiplayer-focused game where players have the opportunity to go head-to-head with other human combatants. Being able to purchase better weapons could throw off the balance and give players the ability to pay to win, essentially, Hines said.

Fallout 76's microtransactions come in the form of Atoms, which you can buy with real money in the Atomic Shop or unlock through gameplay. Bethesda has yet to announce the price points for Atoms, but whatever the case, Hines said Bethesda will reward players with heaps of Atoms for completing certain tasks and objectives in the wasteland.

"If you don't want to spend money in the Atomic shop for cosmetic stuff you don't have to. We give you a sh*tload of Atoms just for playing the game," Hines said. "Folks that want to spend money on whatever the hell it is because they don't have enough Atoms, they can, but it's not, 'I'm now better playing against other players because I spent money.' It's not pay-to-win. And it's not loot crates."

Hines went on to say that Bethesda has always tried to be "on the right side of the line" as it relates to microtransaction systems within its games. Hines acknowledged that it can be a "pretty ambiguous line," but the studio has always strived to avoid situations that feel like money-grabs. Like other publishers, Bethesda has learned the best way forward by following industry trends and gathering feedback from players.

Fallout 76's DLC packs, whatever form they end up taking, will be completely free. That's a change of pace for the franchise, as Bethesda previously sold a variety of extra content for games like Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. Giving Fallout 76's extra content away for free will hopefully make players feel like they are not being taken advantage of, Hines said.

"All the content we ever put out for Fallout 76--all the DLC, all the post-launch stuff--is going to be free. That's important. And to say, the Atomic shop is cosmetic stuff. To make sure folks understand--look there's a line. There are people who have crossed it, but we're going to stay on the right side of it in terms of the things you can spend money on and how this stuff works and what you're getting for your $60," Hines said. "That you know, when they put out new content or features or whatever, I'm getting that stuff for free. That feels right."

Everyone who pre-orders Fallout 76 on Xbox One gets 500 Atoms right away, but how much value this really offers won't be clear until Bethesda reveals the cost of in-game items. Microsoft's partnership with Bethesda goes further, as the company is also releasing a 1 TB Xbox One X bundle that comes with a copy of Fallout 76.

It appears Bethesda is following the model of games like Overwatch and Fortnite in that it will only allow players to spend real money on cosmetics, not items or abilities that actually affect the game. 2017's Star Wars: Battlefront II originally featured a microtransaction system that allowed players to spend real money on items and weapons that actually affected the game. Following an uproar, Electronic Arts and developer DICE reversed course, and now the game only lets you buy cosmetics.

Another element of note in this story is how Fallout 76's new perk system delivers them through Perk Cards. After this was announced, many wondered if players would be able to buy these with real money. However, Bethesda confirmed that it will not allow players to spend real money to acquire new perks.

Fallout 76 launches on November 14 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Players who pre-order can start playing early through limited-time beta testing sessions; all progress carries forward. In other news, Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 76 won't launch on Nintendo Switch because it "wasn't doable."

What Are The Best Breeds?

No Caption Provided

As stated, there is no singular "best horse" in the game. There are only strong breeds that fair much better than the standard breeds you encounter early on. Speaking on the different types: the Arabian, Turkoman, and Missouri Fox Trotter breeds stand out as the most well-rounded and top-tier. Keep in mind that the stats below reflect the horse when you find it and not at its top condition.

Arabian

Arabian breed horses have some of the best stats overall. There are three coat types in total, each with their own unique statistics: White, Black, and Rose Grey Bay.

White-Maned Arabian

The White-Maned Arabian can only be found in the wild, which makes it possible to find relatively early on. This snow-white beauty wanders around the edges of Lake Isabella. It's quite difficult to tame, so you're going to need to be persistent in following it around and calming it down enough before you can approach it.

Compared to other Arabian horses, it has the lowest base Health and Stamina stats--though, it's still much higher than any of the more standard horse breeds. A worthy compromise for a fantastic horse you can catch and tame so early in the game. Just watch out for the wolves who hang out nearby.

Black Arabian

The Black-Maned Arabian horse can be purchased at the Saint Denis Stable during Chapter 4. It has most the well-rounded stats of the Arabian Horses with decent Health and Stamina.

Rose Grey Bay-Maned Arabian

The Rose Grey Bay-Maned Arabian can only be bought at the Blackwater Stable during the Epilogue section of the game. It has the highest Health and Stamina of the three Arabian horses.

Turkoman

Turkoman breed horses make up their lacking acceleration with solid speed, average handling, and a high Health pool. As a cross between War and Racing breeds, they're well worth owning for riders who want a trusty steed who can withstand damage without sacrificing speed. All three Turkoman breeds have the same exact stats, which are reflected below along with a brief breakdown of where you can purchase them and when.

  • Gold Turkoman: Sold at the Saint Denis Stable during Chapter 4.
  • Dark Bay Turkoman: Sold at the Blackwater Stable during the Epilogue.
  • Silver Turkoman: Sold at the Tumbleweed Stable during the Epilogue.

Missouri Fox Trotter

The Missouri Fox Trotter balances the best base speed of all the horse breeds with solid Health and high Stamina. As a mix between the Race and Work breeds, the Missouri Fox Trotter comes highly recommended for those who want all of the perks and benefits of a fast riding horse with resilient Stamina. Like the Turkoman breed, all of the Missouri Fox Trotter coats have the same exact stats, which are reflected below along with a brief breakdown of where you can purchase them and when.

Fortnite update 6.20 ushered in the Fortnitemares and also introduced the new Six Shooter weapon to the game. The patch also gives players the ability to redeploy Gliders after they've landed on the Island. This is quite a big change to the way the game is played, and so it's currently in testing.

You Have One Day To Make The Most Of November's Xbox One Games With Gold

By Tamoor Hussain on Oct 30, 2018 09:56 pm

Following this earlier promotion, Battlefield 1's Premium Pass has been free again on all platforms during October. This offer is set to expire at the end of the month, but Microsoft has just revealed that November's Games With Gold include Battlefield 1. That means you should grab the Premium Pass now, as it'll ensure you get the full suite of content available for the game once it's available through Games With Gold on November 1.

EA has announced it is making the Premium Pass for Battlefield 1 available for free for a limited time. From September 11 to September 18, Battlefield 1 players will be able to get the premium pass at no cost, giving them access to all the additional content released after the game's initial launch.

The Battlefield 1 premium pass includes a total of four expansions: They Shall Not Pass, In the Name of the Tsar, Turning Tides, and Apocalypse, all of which encompass new multiplayer maps, Operations, and Elite classes, among other things.

"Battlefield 1 Premium Pass is a great way for Battlefield 1 base game owners to play all the great post-launch content and whet your appetite as we enter mankind's greatest conflict in Battlefield V, come November," EA said on its website.

By playing Battlefield 1 (and Battlefield 4), players will also unlock content such as weapon skins and special tags for Battlefield V as part of the Road to Battlefield program. These items will play into Battlefield V's customization options, which allow characters to be outfitted with "soldier sets" that include camo patterns, head gear, face paint, and weapon skins. Although six of these soldier sets are included in Battlefield V's Deluxe Edition, two of them can only be unlocked through Road to Battlefield V.

Battlefield V's open beta will be available to everyone on September 6. However, those that have early access through pre-orders or by being an EA Access/Origin subscriber will be able to play from September 4. PS4, Xbox One, and PC owners can now pre-load the beta client on any of these platforms. All you have to do is add the Battlefield V open beta to your download queue by selecting it here for Xbox One or here on PlayStation 4. PC Origin users can head to Battlefield V's store page and click the "Try it First" button and then add the beta client to their library.

Battlefield V was originally set to release on October 19, however it was delayed to November 20 to give developer DICE extra time to fine-tune the game. "We're going to take the time to continue to make some final adjustments to core gameplay, and to ensure we really deliver on the potential of [new Battlefield live service] Tides of War," DICE General Manager Oskar Gabrielson previously explained. "We know moving the launch date means that we all have to wait a little longer. But we're going to take our time to make sure we get it right."

Red Dead Redemption 2 Boasts Huge Launch, But GTA 5 Beats It

By Steve Watts on Oct 30, 2018 09:21 pm

It seemed likely that Red Dead Redemption 2 would be a hit, but Rockstar claims it has surpassed even lofty expectations. The company announced that it achieved $725 million during its opening weekend, making it one of the biggest launches of all time--not just in video games, but in terms of all entertainment.

In the announcement, Rockstar boasted that this is the "single biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment," outpacing movies like Avengers: Infinity War which made $257 million in its opening weekend. (Of course, movie tickets cost significantly less than a new game at $60-100.)

This puts it in second-place for sales in its first three days to another Rockstar game, Grand Theft Auto V, which achieved $1 billion. But since those first three days started on a Tuesday, it isn't an opening weekend, which is the spin Rockstar is using to boast about Red Dead. Take-Two previously said it expected Red Dead to fall short of GTA5 sales. Other achievements from the big launch include several records for digital sales on PlayStation Network: the most pre-orders, biggest day-one full game sales, and most sales in the first three days.

If you're one of those millions who picked up Red Dead 2 already, check out our tips for beginners and read all about what to do with your legendary bear pelt. If you're still on the fence or deciding on a platform, read up on which console performs better, and check out GameSpot's Red Dead Redemption 2 review. "Red Dead Redemption 2 is an excellent prequel, but it's also an emotional, thought-provoking story in its own right, and it's a world that is hard to leave when it's done," wrote critic Kallie Plagge.

Free Xbox One Games With Gold For November Announced

By Chris Reed on Oct 30, 2018 09:17 pm

As October draws to a close, Microsoft has announced the free Games with Gold for November 2018. These games will be available to download at no cost for Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners with a subscription to Xbox Live Gold. The titles in question are the Xbox One games Battlefield 1 and Race the Sun, as well as the backwards-compatible Xbox 360 games Assassin's Creed and Dante's Inferno. That's $85 worth of games--not bad.

November's headliner is Battlefield 1, a 2016 game that brings players back to the first World War. Its campaign is a series of single-player missions that tell stories across numerous real-world battles and locations. As is traditional for the franchise, the multiplayer mode is mostly composed of sprawling maps, with players battling using era-appropriate weapons and vehicles. Battlefield 1 will be free the whole month of November. And today's the last day, but you can get all of the multiplayer DLC by grabbing the Premium Pass for free.

Race the Sun--free November 15-December 16--is a much simpler game, but it's likely to get you in the "just one more try" mindset. In it, you pilot a futuristic plane that hurtles ever forward as the sun sets in the distance. Your job is to avoid the many obstacles in your way and get as many speed boosts as possible. Each run ends either when you crash or the sun sets.

You'll be able to see how far Assassin's Creed has come over its 11-year history if you download the first installment between November 1-15. Finally, Dante's Inferno plays a lot like the older God of War games, and it has you descend into hell to rescue your beloved Beatrice from the devil. It's available for free November 16-30.

If you hurry, you still have time to download October's Games with Gold if you haven't done so already. Xbox One owners can grab Overcooked and the Xbox 360 game Hitman: Blood Money. The action-RPG Victor Vran is also available until November 15.

The Week's Best Xbox One Digital Game Deals

By Chris Reed on Oct 30, 2018 08:31 pm

It's a new week, which means the Microsoft Store has a fresh set of deals on digital Xbox One and Xbox 360 games. This week's selection isn't all that large, but that doesn't mean you won't find anything worth picking up. And as usual, you'll need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to take advantage of some of the deals below. Let's take a look at some of the highlights of this week's sale.

The acclaimed RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2 is on sale this week for $45. We gave it a score of 10/10 in our review. Brett Todd wrote, "From lonely farmhouses through pitched battles with gods in far-flung dimensions, Divinity: Original Sin II is one of the most captivating role-playing games ever made in both its original and Definitive incarnations, with the latter proving that even the most complicated role-players can be ported successfully to gamepad-limited consoles."

If board games are more your speed, Ubisoft has discounted a number of its offerings this week on Xbox One. You can grab the world-conquering game of Risk for $6, the card game Uno for $4, or Monopoly Family Fun Pack for $8. The Monopoly bundle comes with three versions of the game, including a traditional one with an animated board, one that lets you create your own board, and a fast-paced card game variant.

Racing fans can pick up MotoGP 18 for $30 or the unique team-based racer Onrush for $18. Dirt 4 also got a big price cut, bringing it down to $15. Anyone who fondly remembers the NES and SNES era can grab the shoot-'em-up The Mummy Demastered for $14 or the gorgeous platformer Owlboy for $18. And if whipping baddies with your hair sounds like an enjoyable way to pass the time, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is on sale for $16.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Gets Big Nintendo Direct This Week

By Steve Watts on Oct 30, 2018 08:27 pm

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is likely to be the last triple-A game release of the year, thanks to a December release, but there's still plenty we don't know: the full roster, the mysterious final mode, the mystery of Waluigi's absence, etc. At least some of those questions may be answered this week, with a new Nintendo Direct revolving around the game. It will take place Thursday, November 1 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET.

Judging by the tweet promoting the presentation, this looks to be a big one. It will be 40 minutes long, and then be followed by a Nintendo Treehouse: Live presentation. By comparison the last Smash-focused Nintendo Direct was just over 25 minutes, and it revealed the Castlevania stages and characters, Chrom and Dark Samus, Isabelle, and King K. Rool. The Nintendo Direct at E3 was roughly 40 minutes, and it was about a wider spate of games than just Smash.

So what could such a long, Smash-focused Direct bring? It's a good bet we'll see more fighters revealed, possibly even the entire roster. Director Masahiro Sakurai also conspicuously teased a mysterious final mode that's important enough to be in the main menu. Revealing an all-new mode for Smash Bros. that stands alongside the usual competitive modes could justify a longer presentation as well.

This will be the last Nintendo Direct for Smash Bros. Ultimate, so it's likely to tell us all we'll know before release. The game comes out on December 7.

No Man's Sky "The Abyss" Update Explores The Ocean Depths

By Steve Watts on Oct 30, 2018 07:39 pm

No Man's Sky has launched a free update that explores a slightly different kind of black void. The Abyss is available now, and adds more detail to underwater environments and some heavily reworked gameplay elements for exploring the briny depths of a planet.

A post on the PlayStation Blog detailed the update, titled The Abyss. It introduces five times more variety for aquatic environments and more variety of creature behaviors. Underwater creatures appear more frequently, and more unique and scary underwater creatures have been added. You can also explore sunken wrecks to scavenge their cargo, customize a new submarine called the Nautilon, and build an underwater base of operations with more than a dozen new base parts

For a more narrative experience, you can play a new story scenario called The Dreams of the Deep. In it, you'll uncover the mysteries of a stranded crew or someone lost in the depths of the ocean.

This is part of the continuing ongoing content following No Man's Sky Next, the big title update that served as a sort of second launch for the once-beleaguered game. That update itself added all sorts of new space oddities and quality-of-life improvements. The 1.58 update also added weekly content updates for long-term play.

The Abyss update specifically mentions that this is part of Hello Games' plan for ongoing large title updates to complement the ongoing smaller-scale reworks. This one is focused on the oceans of waterlogged planets, but it seems the studio has more large updates in the works as well.

"It" Director To Make Live-Action Movie Of Classic Manga Attack On Titan

By Dan Auty on Oct 30, 2018 07:08 pm

Director Andy Muschietti scored one of the biggest horror hits of all time with his adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel It, and expectations are high for the sequel, which is due for release next year. It has now been reported that Muschietti has lined up his next movie after It: Chapter Two--an adaptation of classic manga Attack on Titan.

According to Variety, Muschietti will helm a live action Attack on Titan movie for Warner. The site states that the studio recently signed a deal with Kodansha, the Japanese publisher of the property, to make a Hollywood version. Muschietti's sister Barbara Muschietti, who produced both It movies and his 2013 horror hit Mama, will co-produce.

Attack on Titan was created by Hajime Isayama, and was first published in 2009. The series focuses on giant humanoid creatures called Titans who have wiped out much of humanity, and the struggle of what is left of mankind to survive together, hidden behind huge walls. The series has already been adapted in Japan, with an anime version premiering in 2013 and a two-part live action movie released in 2015. There was also a video game released in 2016.

This isn't the first Japanese property that Muschietti has been associated with. Last year, it was reported that he was in talks to direct an adaptation of the classic anime series Robotech. However, there has been no further news about this project since then.

It: Chapter Two hits theaters on September 6, 2019, and stars Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, James Ransone, and Bill Skarsgård. The movie wrapped production in September, and Muschietti shared a bloody behind-the-scenes image to mark the end of shooting.

Halloween Remains Top Of US Box Office While Hunter Killer Sinks

By Dan Auty on Oct 30, 2018 07:07 pm

There is little surprise that a horror movie was the No.1 movie in the US in the last week of October, but the continued success of David Gordon Green's Halloween reboot/sequel is impressive. After scoring the second biggest October debut of all time last week, the film made an estimated $32 million in its second weekend on release. Worldwide, the movie has now made $172 million after 10 days on release, all from a reported $10 million production budget.

The week's highest new entry was the Gerard Butler-starring action thriller Hunter Killer. However, the movie could only manage to enter the chart at No.5, making an estimated $6.6 million. Given the reported budget was $40 million and it opened on more than 2,700 screens nationwide, this is a poor result.

The rest of the Top 5 remained the same as last week. In its fourth week of release, A Star Is Born continued its impressive run to hold on to second place. It has now made $253 million at the worldwide box office. The Spider-Man spin-off Venom remains at No.3, with a worldwide total of $508 million, while the spooky family sequel Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween is at No.4.

Elsewhere in the chart, the Young Adult adaptation The Hate U Give, moon landing drama First Man, animated kids movie Smallfoot, and comedy Night School occupied No.6 to No.9 respectably. Jonah Hill's directorial debut Mid90s entered the chart at No.10, rising from No.20, having expanded onto 1,200 screens across the US. The acclaimed horror remake Suspiria will be one to watch next week too--this weekend it set 2018's per screen record, with £179,000 earned from just two theaters. Next weekend it expands to 250 screens.

You can see the full Top 10 list for the October 26-28 US box office below, as compiled by Box Office Mojo.

US/Canada Box Office For October 26-28:

  1. Halloween — $32.4 million
  2. A Star Is Born — $14.1 million
  3. Venom — $10.8 million
  4. Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween — $7.5 million
  5. Hunter Killer — $6.6 million
  6. The Hate U Give — $5.1 million
  7. First Man — $4.9 million
  8. Smallfoot — $4.7 million
  9. Night School — $3.2 million
  10. Mid90s — $3.0 million

Red Dead 2 Perks Guide: The Trinkets, Talismans, And The Crafting Components You Need

By Matt Espineli on Oct 30, 2018 05:50 pm

Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't make a lot of its mechanics known to the player. There are systems buried deep within that you'd be hard-pressed to come in contact with if you're mainlining the game's major story and side missions. Among these mechanics are special Perks that offer improvements to Arthur's overall abilities.

We know what you're thinking, though: "Perks? You mean like Perks you unlock from an RPG-like progression tree?" Yes, and no. Red Dead Redemption 2 does in fact offer these sorts of Perks, but they're unlocked by obtaining special items known as Talismans and Trinkets, and not from any special in-game progression screen.

Talismans and Trinkets are primarily crafted at Fences--special black market shops that sell all manner of useful items you can't get at any ol' General Shop. You'll need parts from Legendary Animals to craft them. Others are rewarded to you by completing specific missions under special conditions. While Talismans and Trinkets are technically items, know that you don't need to equip them in order for them to be active. Once you acquire one, it'll affect Arthur's abilities permanently, and they can even be equipped as a cosmetic item.

Below we run down all of the Talismans we've found so far, what they do, and what you need to unlock them. Any Talismans or Trinkets that have crafting components marked with a "*" are special items that require you to complete specific missions or challenges; a table can be found further below that details their locations.

If you're looking for more guides, you'd be remiss not to check out our feature highlighting all the tips you should know before playing. Though, we also have guides on more specific subjects, like cheat codes, gun customization and money making. Be sure to read our Red Dead 2 review if you haven't already.
