Ghost Recon: Wildlands PC Specs And Requirements Confirmed

With an open beta on the way in a week's time and the official release not much further off, Ubisoft has announced the minimum and recommended specs for Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

Those hoping to play the game on PC will need at least a Core i5-2400S (2.5 GHz) or FX-4320 (4 GHz) to go along with 6 GB of RAM and a GTX 660 or HD 7870. Based on Ubisoft's description, this is merely to run the game with Low presets at 720p, which is far from ideal.

Likewise, the recommended specs are only for 1080p and High presets; many on PC will be hoping to run the game at higher resolutions, but we don't yet know what kind of hardware that will require. For 1080p/High, Ubisoft suggests an i7-3770 or FX-8350, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 970 or R9 290X.

You can see the full list of minimum and recommended specs below. As is now apparently the norm with Ubisoft games on PC, the company has also provided lists of supported video cards and controllers, which you'll also find below.

Those hoping to get a feel for how the game runs will have the opportunity to do so next week. Ubisoft today confirmed the dates for the upcoming open beta, with preloading set to begin on February 21. The game itself is due out on March 7.

R-Rated BioShock Movie Was Very Close To Happening, Ex-Director Says

Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski was at one point attached to direct a BioShock movie. For a number of reasons, the film never happened. Now, the director has revealed that his version of the movie was canceled just eight weeks before it was set to start production.

In a Reddit AMA this week promoting his new movie, A Cure For Wellness, Verbinski revealed that and spoke about why his version of BioShock movie was canceled.

"I wanted to keep it R-rated; I felt like that would be appropriate, and it's an expensive movie," he said. "It's a massive world we're creating and it's not a world we can simply go to locations to shoot. [For] A Cure For Wellness, we were able to really utilize a variety of location to create the world. Bioshock wouldn't work like that; we'd be building an entire underworld universe.

"So I think the combination of the price tag and the rating, [film company Universal] just didn't feel comfortable ultimately," he explained, repeating what he said years ago.

Verbinski went on to say in the AMA that, at the time, there were other R-rated movies that did not perform well. This might have made Universal even more wary about greenlighting the BioShock film.

Though the BioShock movie is showing no signs of starting again, Verbinski said "things have changed" as it relates to successful R-rated movies, so "maybe there will be another chance." Another director might have to step in, as Verbinski said it would be emotionally difficult for him to return.

"It's very difficult when you're eight weeks away from shooting a movie you really can see in your head and you've almost filmed the entire thing," he said. "So emotionally you're right at that transition from architect to becoming a contractor and that will be a difficult place to get back to."

In 2011, Verbinski said the BioShock movie's budget would only be approved for a PG-13 take on the material, a compromise he felt was unacceptable. After Verbinski dropped out, a new director, Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, Intact), was brought on, but he eventually exited the project too.

BioShock creator Ken Levine said in 2013 that BioShock rights-owner Take-Two gave him creative control over the movie. It was his decision alone to kill the second iteration of the film; he did so because he "didn't see a match" with the new director, presumably a reference to Fresnadillo.

The BioShock series was created by Irrational Games, a Boston-based studio that effectively closed in 2014. Development on the series is now headed up by 2K Marin in California. The latest installment in the series was BioShock: The Collection, a compilation pack that features updated versions of BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite.

No new entries in the series have been announced. Last year, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said BioShock has not reached its creative or commercial peak yet, so that sounds like more games will be released eventually.

As for Levine, he is working on a "highly creative and innovative" game for Take-Two that has yet to be announced.


Payday 3 Officially In Production, But It Won't Be Rushed

Having confirmed a follow-up to Payday 2 last year, publisher Starbreeze today provided a bit of additional insight into the status of Payday 3.

"It is with great satisfaction that we also can announce that Payday 3 production is officially initiated and at a full design stage," CEO Bo Andersson Klint said as part of Starbreeze's latest financial report.

Although he didn't share any specifics about what kind of new changes or innovations we can expect to see from Payday 3, Klint did note that Starbreeze has no plans to rush it onto store shelves.

"I'd like to especially clarify that this project will enjoy as much time as we deem needed," he said. "It will be done when it's done. This is our single most important brand today and the cornerstone of our business and we will treat it accordingly. Updates in the near future might be scarce and far between. You simply don't rush Payday 3."

Starbreeze didn't share any updates regarding its upcoming Walking Dead game except to confirm it remains in development. The project is in the works at Overkill Software, which is the studio also responsible for Payday.

Regarding the recent news that Starbreeze had teamed up with Double Fine to publish Psychonauts 2, Klint suggested it may not be the last such deal it makes this year.

"Our publishing portfolio has grown to secure a steady flow of products, big and small, for the upcoming year. We are proud to have signed up Double Fine with Tim Schafer leading the development of their new AAA game Psychonauts 2. We are constantly looking to attract leading teams to our publishing business and 2017 will see a number of these projects initiated by Starbreeze."


PewDiePie Apologizes For Anti-Semitic Content, Accuses Media Of Attacking Him

YouTuber PewDiePie has apologised for his controversial anti-Semitic content. The vlogger has received criticism of late for a two-week old video that involved commissioning a service to make and display a banner that read "Death to all Jews." The subsequent furore led to both Disney and YouTube severing ties with the popular personality.

Now, in a new video titled "My Response," PewDiePie has apologised, saying, "I am sorry for the words I used as I know they offended people and I admit the joke itself went too far."

The vlogger, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, states in the video that the incident was intended "to show how stupid the website is and how far you can push it by paying $5."

"I do strongly believe that you can joke about anything," he continued. "But I also believe there's a right way and not the best way to joke about things. I love to push boundaries but I would consider myself a rookie comedian and I've definitely made mistakes before. But it's always been a growing and learning experience for me. It's something that I've learned to appreciate and I think this whole situation has definitely been that for me. It's something that I'm going to keep in mind moving forward.

"I don't want people to think that I can joke about what I want and it doesn't affect me [because] I'm PewDiePie. I understand these things have consequences. This video is not me trying to justify that."

Later in the video, PewDiePie claims he has been mistreated by the media, which he accuses of taking what he says "out of context." He claims the Wall Street Journal, which broke the news about Disney and YouTube severing their ties with him, "pushed [the companies] to the corner … cornering them, forcing them to sever ties with me."

"This whole thing … was an attack towards me," he goes on. "It was an attack by the media to discredit me, decrease my influence, and my economic worth.

"If people don't like my jokes, I fully respect that. I understand that. I acknowledge that I took things too far and that's something I will definitely keep in mind moving forward. But the reaction and the outrage has been nothing but insanity.

"Again, it's fine to not agree with a person's sense of humor, but calling me a fascist ... how is that helping anyone? Some people are saying these jokes are normalising hatred."

Kjellberg asserted that his jokes were not normalising hatred, and turned the accusation onto his detractors in the media. "Is there any hate in what I do? No. Absolutely not. Personally, I think they are the ones normalising hatred."

Lastly, the YouTuber hits back at the Wall Street Journal in particular by saying, "I'm still here. I'm still making videos. Nice try Wall Street Journal. Try again motherf***rs."

PewDiePie previously responded to the controversy by stating he in no way supports "any kind of hateful attitudes," and says his channel is not the place to come for serious politics. "I make videos for my audience," he wrote, "I think of the content that I create as entertainment, and not a place for any serious political commentary. I know my audience understand that and that is why they come to my channel. Though this was not my intention, I understand that these jokes were ultimately offensive."

YouTube guidelines forbid content that "promotes violence or hatred against individuals or groups," including language that attacks someone for their race, gender, sexuality, or religion.

New Watch Dogs 2 DLC Focuses On Biotech

Ubisoft announced today the second DLC for Watch Dogs 2, entitled Human Conditions. It will include three new fully-fledged single-player Dedsec operations (with cinematics and everything), new missions, and locations, apparently totalling more than five hours of content.

New elite co-op missions will features multiple objectives, larger mission areas, and "advanced optional objectives," as well as a new enemy type called the Jammer. The Jammer is a new tech-enhanced enemy type capable of disabling your hacking abilities in a radius around it.

Human Conditions includes three new story missions, Automata, Bad Medicine, and Caustic Progress. We don't have any information on Caustic Progress at this stage, but in Automata, Marcus will be going up against Nudle (Watch Dogs 2's Google analogue), for the new biometric security system employed in its self-driving cars.

Dedsec learns that as well as using biometrics to confirm the identity of passengers, the self-driving cars can also use biometric data to determine someone's "Life Score," allowing the CTOS-connected system to make value judgements about who should live or die in car accident scenarios. For instance, if your life score is lower than that of the passenger stepping out in front of your self-driving vehicle, it will choose to crash into a wall to save the higher-value person.

In Bad Medicine, Marcus partners-up with a hitman against a common enemy that is holding the city's hospitals to ransom.

The events of Human Conditions can occur during or after the Watch Dogs 2 main story, meaning you can jump into the DLC no matter how far you are through the game. "Our narrative structure allows us to easily introduce additional DedSec operations in an organic and natural way with their own thematic and storyline, from beginning to end. DedSec is still picking targets that will help them not only gain followers and positive press, but also to fight back against abusive technology," said producer Fabian Salomon via press release.

In other Watch Dogs 2 news, the game's latest update has introduced a new post-ending scene that may hint at a location for a sequel.

The Predator Star Says Reboot Movie Will Be "Horror, Sci-Fi, And A Western"

The Predator starts production later this month, with Iron Man 3's Shane Black directing. The movie stars Boyd Holbrook (Narcos), who has now spoken about what to expect from the sci-fi reboot.

Speaking to We Got This Covered, Holbrook explained that the movie would be more than just another movie in the long-running franchise. "It's not a sequel," he said. "Shane has made something totally new. [It] somehow keeps within the realm of Predator [while also being] absolutely new in terms of the story that we're talking about today, and rooted in something real.

"It's real fresh. I don't think you're going to see [Arnold] Schwarzenegger. It would kind of make it a gimmick. It's horror, science-fiction, and a western."

Last month, it was confirmed that Holbrook would be joined by former Punisher actor Thomas Jane and 10-year-old Jacob Tremblay, who won much acclaim for his role in the Oscar-winning Room. The film will also star Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, and Keegan-Michael Key.

In an interview last year, Black explained that The Predator would have a much larger scale than the previous films in the franchise. "I think the first one was great, and it was contained, and it was a perfect little gem for what it was. I think there's an expansion that needs to take place, and also just a love for that era, that movie, and the mythology of the Predator.

"I think that they came to me knowing pretty much that... they said, basically, if I wanted to make Predator but treat it like it was Iron Man 3 instead of just another little movie. I said, 'Let's really do it right this time.'"

Black himself appeared in the original Predator from 1987, which starred Schwarzenegger and was directed by John McTiernan. To date there have been four further films, including the direct sequel Predator 2, two Alien vs. Predator movies, and 2010's Robert Rodriguez-produced Predators.

The Predator is set to be released on March 2, 2018.


Here's When The Ghost Recon: Wildlands Open Beta Begins And What's In It

The Ghost Recon: Wildlands open beta now has a schedule. It will run from February 23 through February 27 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, Ubisoft announced today. Preloading begins on February 21.

The open beta includes everything from the closed beta, as well as more content in the form of a province called Montuyoc. "Set in the Bolivian Altiplano region, this province contains heavily defended strongholds where the Santa Blanca trains some of its toughest soldiers," Ubisoft explained. Santa Blanca is the drug cartel that players are trying to take down in the game.

People who took part in the closed beta or try the open beta will receive access to the "Unidad Conspiracy," which contains three "exclusive" missions that will be available when the game comes out. Details are light at the moment, but Ubisoft said these missions will involve a "brewing conflict between the local Unidad military and the Santa Blanca." Note that you need to buy the retail version of Wildlands and play it before March 31 on the same Ubisoft account as the beta to get the missions.

The Wildlands open beta was first discussed during an Ubisoft earnings call in November 2016. Earlier this month, Ubisoft confirmed the beta as part of another earnings call.

Power Rangers Comic Explores Parallel Dimensions And Their Villains

The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers comic book series from Boom Studios has taken the beloved television franchise and expanded it. The series follows the original Power Rangers from the first season, including Tommy as the Green Ranger.

Recently, Tommy discovered a version of himself from a parallel world who calls himself Lord Drakkon. This version of him is the epitome of evil, which has led to the death of a lot of characters. On February 15, issue #12 discovered a whole lot more about Drakkon, and we talked to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers editors, made up of Dafna Pleban, Alex Galer, and Matt Levine, about where the series is headed.

GameSpot: Emotionally, how is Tommy dealing with seeing another version of himself as Rita's newest villain?

MMPR Editors: One of the the big emotional questions driving this series has always been, "Can Tommy reconcile his past and find his place on the Ranger team?" Plagued by visions of Rita and gripes with Jason and Zack, Tommy pushed through it all and was just starting to feel like himself--like he had a path and purpose. But meeting Drakkon has challenged all of that. Drakkon symbolizes Tommy's fear that there is still evil within him and that becoming Lord Drakkon could very well be in his own future.

This issue opens up the idea of Power Rangers from parallel dimensions. Will we be seeing parallel versions of other characters?

We will. And keep in mind, we're not only in a parallel dimension, but a future parallel dimension. We're further along in the Ranger timeline here, which leaves the door open to more characters from future iterations of Mighty Morphin.

During the fight sequences in the past/parallel world, we see other Rangers. Does this mean we'll be seeing other Rangers (Zeo, Turbo, Ninja, etc.) in the main world a possibility? Personally, as editors, who would you like to see?

The "Mighty Morphin" canon extends from Season 1 up through "In Space." That's our sandbox. It's all fair game. There is still so much more that happens to these characters and this world—from new Zords to new Rangers—that we want to explore, but we want to make sure it feels earned and that we've exhausted all we can with the story we're currently telling. Personally, I love the mythology that comes with Zeo. It really cracks open the world and introduces a lot of new and interesting elements to the series, like the new Power Chamber and The Machine Empire, one of the more formidable foes for the Rangers. Also, who wouldn't want to see Hendry draw the Gold Zeo Ranger?

Speaking of new Zords, will we be seeing a "changing of the Zords" or will the comic continue to focus on the first generation?

There is still a lot of story to tell with these characters and Zords, but we would never say never. If and when do get to new Zords or Rangers, we want to make sure the change feels necessary and organic to the story we're telling.

In a broader sense, how will this event shape the future of the comic? Will it have lasting repercussions?

Writer Kyle Higgins is always thinking of the bigger picture—anything he throws at these characters is tied to future emotional and narrative stakes that we plan to follow through on. Over the next couple of issues, as we head toward the climactic finale of our parallel universe story line, I think readers will really start to see the seeds of what we have in store for the future of the series.

What can you tell us about the people at the end the issue #12?

Saba tells Tommy and Billy about a battle called the Fall of the Rangers and a "makeshift army" that was formed to try and combat Lord Drakkon. The three people we meet at the end of the issue are part of what's left of that army... they're the resistance. And Bulk, Trini, and Aisha aren't the only past and future Rangers in the group.

What separates Tommy from Drakkon? Is it something as simple as a momentary decision or is it larger?

This is actually what our Tommy would like to know, too! We plan to explore where Drakkon and our Tommy diverted—what happened to Drakkon emotionally to set him down this road.

Each issue ends with a two-page Bulk and Skull adventure. Are there plans to expand it or will it stick to the 2-page format?

We'll continue the two-page back-up format. However, #12 is the big finale to The Ongoing Adventures of Bulk & Skull. With issue #13 introducing "Year 2" of the series, readers will be in for a treat with a new creative team on back-ups. "The Ongoing Misadventures of..." well, you will just have to wait and see.


PS4's Crash Bandicoot Remaster Trilogy Release Date Announced

[UPDATE] Activision announced today that Crash Bandicoot N. Sale Trilogy will launch on June 30. Polygon reports that it'll cost $40. The release date announcement trailer is embedded above.

Activision has teased some kind of announcement about its Crash Bandicoot series.

Writing on Twitter, the publisher said a "big" announcement about the franchise will be made today, February 16. The company tweeted the video below, which seems to suggest a release date for something may be what the news is teasing; take a look at the video for yourself:

There is nothing else to go on at this time. If it is indeed a release date reveal, it could be for the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which is confirmed for 2017 but doesn't have a specific date yet.

A PlayStation 4 game, the N. Sane Trilogy includes the first three games in the franchise: Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped. They were all originally made by Naughty Dog, though Activision's Vicarious Visions is making the PS4 game.

Vicarious Visions used the original games' level geometry, but the gameplay is rebuilt from scratch. Some new features for the updated versions include a unified checkpoint and save system (including manual and auto-saving), as well as a unified menu system. There will also time trials available for each game. You can read this developer blog post to learn more about the N. Sane Trilogy.

A Tom Brady Movie Is In The Works And He's Not Involved

[UPDATE] Tom Brady himself is reportedly not involved in the upcoming book and movie, nor did he sign off on it. This information comes from ESPN's Mike Reiss.

The New England Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI to complete the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history. Tom Brady won his fifth Super Bowl and his fourth MVP. Now, this story, including all the controversy around Deflategate, is being made into a book that will be spun into a movie, according to Deadline.

Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, who received Oscar nominations for The Fighter, are writing the script alongside author Casey Sherman. Boston-based journalist Dave Wedge is working with them.

"The writers already have cultivated several sources inside the Patriots locker room to provide a first-hand look at what went on behind the scenes in a Super Bowl that had everyone on the edge of their seats," Deadline reported.

Wedge told Entertainment Weekly: "When we're looking for stories, we're looking for these universal themes of overcoming odds and people using moments of adversity to inspire. The game that we just saw a couple of weeks ago really encapsulates who that guy is. … It's made for a movie."

There is no word yet on who would play Brady or any of the other key figures in the story. It sounds like very early days for the project.

The Deflategate situation and the stunning Super Bowl LI comeback are storylines so compelling that it was only a matter of time before a book and a movie were announced.


New Horizon Zero Dawn Trailers Showcase The Mysterious And Deadly Post-Apocalyptic World

Ahead of its release later this month, Sony has published three new trailers for the highly anticipated action-RPG, Horizon: Zero Dawn, which was made by Killzone developer Guerrilla Games.

The first new trailer, titled "Earth is Ours No More," begins by showing a thriving, human-populated world. Some kind of event took place and "everything plunged into darkness," with nature reclaiming the Earth. Massive mysterious machines now control the Earth, and main character Aloy is driven to discover why. Bear in mind that this is a cinematic trailer that does not show gameplay.

A second trailer, "Explore the Wild," shows off Zero Dawn's sprawling, diverse post-apocalyptic world. There are waterside villages with people fishing, dark caverns to explore, and beautiful vistas. A third trailer, "Overwhelming Odds," shows off some of the dangers that players will discover, including all manner of mechanized beasts. You can see those trailers below.

Zero Dawn launches on February 28 exclusively for PlayStation 4. The game comes to Europe a day later, on March 1. There will be a day one patch.

Earlier this week, Sony talked about how Zero Dawn has the potential to become a new franchise for the company. Additionally, Sony believes Aloy, who is inspired by the Game of Thrones character Ygritte, could become a "PlayStation icon of the future."

PS4 Multiplayer Goes Free For One Week

Rather than the free weekend events it's held in the past, Sony will soon allow all PS4 owners to play online without a PlayStation Plus membership for a full week.

In North America, this begins tomorrow, February 17. As with the free weekends, you'll be able to access any game's online mode that would ordinarily require a Plus subscription. You won't, however, receive any of the other benefits of Plus, like access to the month's free games.

Online multiplayer access in North America opens up at 12:01 AM PT/3 AM ET on February 17 and will remain available until 11:59 PM PT on February 23. For those in Europe, the event will be a bit shorter--it runs from 10 AM GMT on February 22 until 11:59 PM on February 26.

PS4 was Sony's first console to require a Plus membership to play online. Sony explained in 2013 that this was due to the "large investment of resources" it had put into its online services. Last year, Plus increased in price for the first time in the US and Canada, going from $50 to $60.

Huge Ark Update Out Now On PS4 And Xbox One

Following its launch for PC, Ark: Survival Evolved's new update launched today on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Tek Tier update, as it's called, adds a lot of new weapons, gear, and the ability to cut your hair and do crazy things such as fly around like Iron Man or put a laser on a dinosaur's head.

Developer Studio Wildcard also confirmed today that Ark: Survival Evolved has surpassed 1 million copies sold on PlayStation 4. The game was the best-selling digital title on PSN in December (its launch month) and January. On PlayStation 4, the game is available through the Survivor's Pack, which includes the base game and the Scorched Earth expansion for $55; it is currently on sale for $44.

As of August 2016, Ark: Survival Evolved had sold 1.5 million copies on Xbox One and 4 million on PC.

Ark: Survival Evolved's big commercial success comes before the game is even finished, as in-development versions of the game are all that are available right now. The final version of the game is scheduled to be available on all platforms later this year.
