[Last Chance] September's Free Legendary Pokemon Available, Here's How To Get Them

By Kevin Knezevic on Sep 29, 2018 08:00 pm

A new month is now upon us, and The Pokemon Company is continuing its Year of Legendary Pokemon campaign with another pair of free Legendaries for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. During September, players will be able to claim one of the two Eon Pokemon from Ruby and Sapphire, Latios and Latias, but as usual, the way to get your hands on them will vary by region. [Update: The Latios/Latias distribution is set to end today, September 29, making this your last opportunity to pick the Legendaries up.]

Once again, those who live in the US will need to go to a participating retailer to pick up a free download code for the Legendaries. This time, the code will be distributed at Best Buy stores around the country from September 2-29. Players in Europe and Australia, meanwhile, will be able to download the Legendaries directly from the Nintendo Network between September 1-23.

As usual, the Pokemon you receive will depend on which version you're playing. You can claim the Legendaries in any seventh-generation Pokemon game, but there's an added incentive to redeem them in the Ultra titles; not only will the Legendaries come at higher levels and know different moves, they'll be equipped with a Gold Bottle Cap, a rare item that can be exchanged to Hyper Train a Pokemon. You can see their movesets and other details below.

Pokemon Ultra Sun

  • Latias -- Level 100 (w/Gold Bottle Cap)
    • Mist Ball
    • Psychic
    • Draco Meteor
    • Tailwind

Pokemon Sun

  • Latias -- Level 60
    • Mist Ball
    • Dragon Pulse
    • Psycho Shift
    • Wish

Pokemon Ultra Moon

  • Latios -- Level 100 (w/Gold Bottle Cap)
    • Luster Purge
    • Psychic
    • Draco Meteor
    • Tailwind

Pokemon Moon

  • Latios -- Level 60
    • Luster Purge
    • Dragon Pulse
    • Psycho Shift
    • Dragon Breath

To get the Legendary, select Mystery Gift from the main menu and choose the option to receive your gift with a code/password. Enter the download code you picked up and the Pokemon will be downloaded into your game. (Players in Europe and Australia, meanwhile, will simply need to select the option to receive their gift via the internet.) Once those steps have been completed, you'll be able to pick your Legendary up from the deliveryman waiting inside any Pokemon Center around Alola.

You also still have time to redeem your download code for August's free Legendaries, Groudon and Kyogre. If you still haven't picked one up, however, you're out of luck, as codes for the Ruby and Sapphire cover monsters were only being given away from GameStop stores until August 26. You can see all of the other free Pokemon available for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon right now in our roundup.

Star Wars Boss Gets Three-Year Extension

By Steve Watts on Sep 29, 2018 06:31 pm

Star Wars lead producer Kathleen Kennedy will be heading up the franchise well into the future. The architect of the universe who has led it since the Disney buyout has signed a deal to stay on for three more years, through 2021, per the Hollywood Reporter.

Kennedy joined Lucasfilm in 2012 as co-chair alongside George Lucas, and months later became his successor when he sold the rights to Disney. The $4 billion acquisition was massive, but the bet has already paid off. The four Star Wars films have already grossed more than $4.5 billion, not even including additional profits from merchandising.

As the head of the studio, though, she has also been subject to criticism. Solo: A Star Wars Story brought in a disappointing $392 million, which is estimated to have been a loss. Disney CEO Bob Iger recently commented that the Star Wars movies may have been "too much, too fast" and created franchise fatigue. He didn't show any sign of wavering confidence in Kennedy, though, as he took responsibility for the decisions on timing.

Currently Kennedy is producing the untitled Episode IX. That's reportedly the last planned chapter, while separate projects are coming from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss of Game of Thrones, and an entirely separate trilogy from The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. Meanwhile, the Star Wars universe is expanding more and more into the small screen, with planned projects from Jon Favreau and the upcoming Star Wars: Resistance.

Latest Daredevil Season 3 Promises Showdown With The Kingpin

By Dan Auty on Sep 29, 2018 02:48 pm

The classic Marvel villain Wilson Fisk was so memorably portrayed in the first season of Netflix's Daredevil that his absence from most of Season 2 was keenly felt. Luckily the character is back for the upcoming Season 3. Netflix are using the Fisk's return as the focal point of their marketing--we've already had one Fisk-centric teaser this week, and now another has been released.

This one uses a menacing voiceover from actor Vincent D'Onofrio, who tells us that "love blinded me" and that "the Devil took my throne." Accompanying this are images of Fisk sitting in prison clothes, before it switches to the famous white Kingpin suit. Finally he announces that Daredevil "will never see me coming," hinting at the showdown between these two enemies. Watch it above.

Daredevil Season 3 hits Netflix in its entirety on October 19. It stars Charlie Cox in the lead role, plus Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson once more. A new poster has also been released in advance of next week's New York Comic-Con--check it out at the end of this story.

In related news, it was reported earlier this month that a host of new Marvel shows are in the works. According to Variety, the studio is developing shows for its upcoming streaming platform that will center around Loki and Scarlet Witch, with Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen potentially reprising their roles from Marvel's movies. Disney's streaming service is reportedly due to launch at the end of 2019.

New Fall 2018 Anime: Where To Watch Every New Series, Movie, And OVA (US)

By Jordan Ramée on Sep 29, 2018 06:08 am

It's time to say goodbye to 2018's summer anime, like Planet With and My Hero Academia Season 3. The fall anime season begins in October, and a bunch of new series and movies will begin airing on Netflix, Amazon, Crunchyroll, Funimation, and HiDive. With all the new anime, we've outlined what we think you need to add to your watch list.

Bloom Into You is a must watch. This love story between two high school girls also addresses the pressures of living with low self-worth and the struggles of understanding asexual love. Despite the heaviness of the story's drama, there are both brief snippets of hilarity and quiet moments of internal resilience that draw you into the changing dynamic between the second-year student council president who can't escape her dead sister's shadow and the young first-year who dreams of falling in love but doesn't feel attraction for anyone. Bloom Into You is debuting exclusively on HiDive (in both Japanese and English dub) and premiers on October 5. This fall, HiDive is also airing episodes of the English dub of Princess Principal, one of the best anime from 2017.

You should also add Crunchyroll's Goblin Slayer to your queue--especially if you're a fan of Dark Souls. Goblin Slayer is a dark fantasy about an inexperienced priestess, called Priestess, who's saved by a male adventurer named Goblin Slayer after her entire party is gruesomely butchered in front of her. Goblin Slayer is a bloody story that repeatedly offers up scenes where its characters are left with eyes full of despair, but it's not without its charm. The series begins airing on October 6.

Other anime to look out for are That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and SSSS Gridman. The former launches on October 1, with the original Japanese version on Crunchyroll and the English dub on Funimation. The latter comes out on Funimation on October 6. Slime is an isekai--a story where a normal person is transported to another world--that's about pretty much exactly what the name implies, and Studio Trigger's Gridman is an anime remake of Gridman the Hyper Agent, a series about three kids creating a video game superhero. Golden Kamuy and Netflix's Castlevania also return with second seasons this fall, the former on October 8 and the latter on October 26.

The full list of anime series and movies that have been confirmed to premier this fall on Amazon, Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hidive, and Netflix are listed below. We'll update the list if additional titles are announced.

How To Link Fortnite Console Accounts

By Kevin Knezevic on Sep 29, 2018 04:35 am

For months, Sony had been the lone holdout when it came to allowing cross-play in Fortnite, but the company finally relented earlier this week and kicked off an "extended cross-play beta" for the hit battle royale game. If you've already made multiple Fortnite accounts in order to play on different consoles, Epic has now rolled out a tool that allows you to link all of your consoles to a single Epic Account.

First, the developer stresses that the following process will not transfer your existing purchases and progression from your account; rather, it will allow any future progression and purchases you make to carry across platforms. You will be able to combine all of your existing progression/purchases into one account when the developer releases an account merging tool this November.

Before you can link accounts, you'll first need to decide which platform will be your Primary console and which will be your Secondary. Epic recommends that you use the platform with the progression/purchases you value most as your Primary one, as you won't be able to access your Secondary console's purchases until the account merging tool launches.

Once you've determined a Primary console and a Secondary one, you'll need to follow the steps outlined on Epic's website in order to link them together. Both of your console accounts will need to have an Epic Account association; if either one doesn't, you'll need to create one. At the end of this step, you should have two separate Epic Accounts, one for each console. You'll also need to use a different email address for each account.

After that's done, you'll then need to unlink your Secondary console. Sign into Epic's website with your Secondary console account, click on the Account dropdown menu, then click on Connected Accounts and choose Disconnect. Be sure to keep the login information for your Secondary console account, however, as you'll need it to complete the account merging process in November.

Once you've clicked Unlink, log back in with your Primary console account, click on the Account dropdown menu, then click Connect on your Secondary console. Sign into that console when prompted, and your Primary and Secondary console accounts will be linked. You can find more details on how to complete the process here.

Season 6 of Fortnite is now underway, and it's made some pretty big changes to the battle royale game. In addition to a few new areas on the map, Epic has introduced a slew of new items, including Pets. You can see all of the game's new skins and cosmetics in our Season 6 rewards gallery. If you need help unlocking them, you can also find tips on how to complete Fortnite's latest challenges in our Season 6 challenge roundup.

Sony Exec Talks PS4's New Cross-Play Feature And Its Post-Fortnite Future

By Jordan Ramée on Sep 29, 2018 04:32 am

Through Fortnite, console cross-play between Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo is finally possible. SIE Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden has provided additional background on why Sony changed its mind in regards to console cross-play, and has also revealed PlayStation 4's future with cross-play after Fortnite.

In episode 308 of PlayStation Blogcast, Layden says that despite Sony's public stance against console cross-play, the company has apparently been considering it for a while. "This is something that has been taking up about 65% of my Twitter feed over the last few months," Layden said. "Now, enabling cross-play isn't as simple as flipping a switch and there you go. It's a very multidimensional attribute or feature."

According to Layden, Sony has taken so long to reveal console cross-play because it wanted to make sure the feature would even be feasible. The company has been checking to make sure the infrastructure for customer support and in-game messaging would work with other systems, as well as getting the okay from partners. "It's taken us longer than I would have wanted," Layden admits. But he adds that he thinks it worked out for the best to announce Sony's new stance on console cross-play and the start of the Fortnite cross-play beta at the same time.

Layden ended the discussion by reiterating that Sony is approaching the concept of console cross-play as a beta. "Right now, we're in a beta test program, and when you beta test something you try to reduce the number of variables in the equation." Layden said. "So right now, Fortnite is beta testing for cross-play. I think that, certainly, once we can prove that this is holding together sturdy and well, I would anticipate seeing other games in this service over time."

There are most likely other factors at play, but it sounds like Sony is looking to see how console cross-play works out with Microsoft and Nintendo based on how well the feature works with Fortnite. This might hint that Sony hasn't completely shifted its stance on console cross-play at this moment, and doesn't want to commit to devoting resources for more cross-play titles, like Minecraft and Rocket League, until it's positive that doing so would be a step in the right direction.

Fortnite is available for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, Android, and iOS. The battle royale portion of the game recently introduced plenty of big changes in Season 6.

Fortnite Season 6 Pets Headline The New Battle Pass Update

By Kevin Knezevic on Sep 29, 2018 03:27 am

After weeks of cryptic teases, Season 6 of Fortnite is finally underway on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile, and it has brought some big changes to the popular battle royale game. On top of new locations around the map--not to mention a slew of fresh skins and other cosmetics to get your hands on--Season 6 has introduced a new category of items we never knew we wanted: Pets.

Among the many new rewards you'll be able to unlock with the Season 6 Battle Pass are Pets, adorable companions who'll accompany you as you play. Much like Back Bling, these little guys are worn on your back. They don't have any practical uses--they're purely cosmetic, as with all Battle Pass rewards--but they look cute, and they'll react differently depending on what you're doing; leap a great distance, for example, and they'll hang on for dear life.

Three different kinds of Pets are available thus far, and they're available in multiple colors: Bonsey, a dog; Scales, a baby dragon; and Camo, a chameleon. You can see images of them, along with all of the other new cosmetics and skins you can get your hands this season, in our complete Season 6 Battle Pass rewards gallery.

In addition to the Pets, Epic has introduced a load of new skins in Season 6. Some of these, such as the DJ Yonder and Calamity outfits, we previously got a glimpse of in the teaser images Epic shared leading up to the new season, but there is also a new Red Riding Hood skin and other loosely Halloween-themed rewards to unlock.

Season 6 arrived alongside Fortnite's 6.0 patch, which vaulted several weapons and made tweaks to various others. It also introduced a new type of consumable item called Shadow Stones. You can read more about the new changes in the 6.0 patch notes. You can also find tips on all of the new challenges available thus far in our complete Fortnite Season 6 challenge roundup.

PG-13 Deadpool 2 Reportedly Coming As Untitled Deadpool Movie Hits Release Slate

By Steve Watts on Sep 29, 2018 03:14 am

Deadpool 2 was known for being a very hard R, but Fox appears prepared to put it out in theaters too with an age rating that's a little more inviting to mass audiences: PG-13. The movie is currently slated for December 21, currently listed as an untitled Deadpool movie.

Deadline reports that this mysterious title is Deadpool 2, given a few snips and clips to squeeze it into a size PG-13 dress. Star Ryan Reynolds, who has been heavily involved in bringing the comic character to life, tweeted out an image of Deadpool reading a story to Fred Savage a la The Princess Bride. This may be the framing device for a PG-13 Deadpool 2, as well as a way to extend the length and make up for cut scenes.

In GameSpot's Deadpool 2 review, Michael Rougeau said it worked in much the same way the original did, though it could have used more support from its surrounding cast like Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz. "But Reynolds' Wade Wilson is just as charming as ever, in his own twisted way, and Deadpool 2 delivers the laughs, action, and gruesome maimings that fans want," he wrote.

Presumably a PG-13 rated version will have most of the same laughs and action, but slightly less gruesome maimings. Fox recently reached a deal with Disney, which could put all of the Fox-owned Marvel characters including Deadpool into the MCU. The report also included word that the X-Men movie Dark Phoenix is being pushed back to the summer, with Gambit being delayed even further.

The Gambit Movie Delayed Again, For Those Still Convinced It Will Actually Happen

By Chris E. Hayner on Sep 29, 2018 03:12 am

Oh, Gambit. You're the little movie that could but with every new update, seemingly won't. There's been some juggling of release dates from Fox's film division, which sees Dark Phoenix, the next X-Men film, delayed by a few months. Instead of arriving in February, it's now taking up residence on June 7--a slot formerly occupied by Gambit--according to Deadline. That leaves Gambit knocked back nearly a year to March 13, 2020.

The Gambit movie has been a fascinating thing to watch. One minute, it'll seem like production is ramping up to begin. While in the next, it looks near death. In recent years, it's cycled through the hands of a number of potential directors, from Rise of the Planet of the Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt, to Pirates of the Caribbean vet Gore Verbinski. Through it all, though, Channing Tatum still seems set on starring as the X-Men character.

With all of the behind-the-scenes changes, Gambit has seen a few release dates over the past couple years. It's most recent date of June 7, 2019, might have seemed like wishful thinking, though. After all, the end of 2018 is closing in fast and filming has yet to commence. In fact, there's not even an officially announced director at this point.

So it should come as no surprise that not only is Gambit getting delayed again. Of course, with the upcoming sale of Fox's film division to Disney, there's no telling whether this particular release date will become a reality or if we'll ever see a Gambit movie.

One thing is for sure, though. Producer Simon Kinberg--who also wrote and directed Dark Phoenix--still wants it to happen. In an interview with IGN, Kinberg said, "When you look at Gambit, he's a hustler and a womanizer and we just felt like there was an attitude, a swagger to him, that lent itself to romantic comedy."

Of course, that doesn't mean you should be expecting something along the lines of When Gambit Met Sally. Instead, he claims it's still very much a superhero movie, just with a specific tone to it. "You know, when I say romantic comedy, I use that term loosely, in the same term that I use the term western for Logan loosely," he said, "It's not like they're gunslingers at high noon in Logan. It's just a vibe."

If Gambit is the rom-com to Logan's western, that's a movie we want to see. Whether we'll actually ever get to see it is another story entirely, but don't give up hope just yet! In the meantime, get ready for a PG-13 edit of Deadpool 2.

Hulu: New TV Shows And Movies Coming And Leaving In October 2018 (US)

By Mat Elfring on Sep 29, 2018 02:55 am

Halloween is right around the corner, at the end of October, and Hulu has quite a few choices in horror films being added added to its streaming service. Additionally, Hulu has new TV series being added and a couple of Hulu originals. Get your queue ready for Monday, October 1 when a good portion of Hulu's offerings become available for the month.

If you're looking for some classic, Halloween scares, look no further than 1999's The Blair Witch Project. It follows a group of documentary filmmakers who travel to the woods of Maryland to uncover the truth of a local myth involving a legendary witch. They quickly find out that this isn't a myth at all. The film began the found footage genre of the '00s. And if you're looking for more in this genre, you should check out the Rec series. The movies revolve around a virus infecting the brains of its host, turning them into zombie-like creatures. Rec was remade in 2008 under the title Quarantine. All four movies in this Spanish horror series Rec are arriving the same day, October 1.

If scares aren't your thing, and you're looking for something a little lighter, then you'll want to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas, which comes out on October 2. The classic claymation movie unites Christmas and Halloween in one bizarre movie, which is totally fitting for director Henry Selick (Coraline) and writer Tim Burton (Batman). Also, the tongue-in-cheek action movie Starship Troopers heads to Hulu on October 1, in case you want to watch Casper Van Dien shoot some oversized guns.

Sadly, there are some great movies leaving the service. On Halloween, 28 Weeks Later, There Will Be Blood, Sixteen Candles, Any Given Sunday, and more will be leaving, so make sure to watch those before they're gone forever.

Check out everything coming and leaving Hulu below as well as our recommendations for new and returning TV shows for the Fall that will surely be awesome.

X-Men's Dark Phoenix Movie Release Date Delayed Days After First Trailer

By Chris E. Hayner on Sep 29, 2018 02:48 am

Well, this is awkward. Two days after the first trailer for Dark Phoenix, the next X-Men movie, was released, Fox is now delaying the film. As stated in the trailer, Dark Phoenix was originally set to open in theaters on February 14, 2019. It would have been the perfect Valentine's Day date movie for you and your favorite mutant, but now you're out of luck.

According to Deadline, Dark Phoenix will now hit theaters on June 7, 2019. That will make it a summer release, but the move is still very odd given how it's only been two days since a trailer arrived. However, as Deadline points out, not only could a summer release mean a much bigger box office take for Dark Phoenix, but the trailer's success in China--44 million views in 24 hours--could lead to it being a much larger hit in the country. It will now be opening against The Secret Life of Pets 2.

The move to June 7 also necessitated another release change for Fox. Gambit, which has had no end of issues actually getting made, originally occupied the slot. It's now been bumped to 2020. Then again, who knows what the odds are that movie actually beginning production anytime soon.

One other release date change by Fox sees Alita, the adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel, moving to Dark Phoenix's old February 14 release. It had originally been scheduled for December 21. Instead, Fox is believed to be releasing a PG-13 edit of Deadpool 2. That would be a very interesting move, given the upcoming sale of Fox to Disney, who owns Marvel. Perhaps this is how the studio will measure whether a toned down Deadpool movie could work. Of course, given that Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige will likely take control of the X-Men properties once the sale to Disney is complete, this could all change again in the coming months.

Thus far, there's been no change in the release date of New Mutants, the other X-Men movie coming in 2019. The horror film is still scheduled to be released on August 2, 2019.

Amazon Prime Video's New Movies And TV Shows From September 2018 (US)

By Mat Elfring on Sep 29, 2018 02:47 am

Are you running out of things to watch on Amazon Prime? We're approaching October's new additions, but September has brought with it a large batch of new TV shows, movies, and Prime Originals for you to binge in your free time this week and beyond. Here is what you have to look forward to throughout the rest of the month, as well as what's already landed on the streaming service.

There are five new Prime Original series debuting. The most notable is King Leer, which stars Anthony Hopkins playing the iconic titular role based on the work of William Shakespeare. Additionally, there is Six Dreams, a documentary series which follows a Spanish soccer league and three of its players: Atletico de Madrid's Saúl Ñíguez, Athletic Club Bilbao's Iñaki Williams, and Real Betis' Andrés Guardado. On the comedy side of things, Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph star in Forever, a series about a couple who have hit a slump after years of repetition.

For new movies coming to the service that you may have missed in theaters, September 29 marks the arrival of the horror movie Jigsaw, which is part of the gruesome Saw franchise. There is also Escape Plan 2--which wasn't in theaters--and while the movie's focus isn't on Sylvester Stallone as much as we'd thought it would be, it's still a solid action movie.

If you're looking something from the past, Amazon has a ton of movies you'll want to rewatch including Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, arriving on September 1. If you're getting ready a bit early for Halloween, there a few horror movies as well, including Pumpkinhead, Poltergeist II, the original The Amityville Horror, and the 1989 Adam Sandler movie Going Overboard, which may be the scariest of them all. Check out the complete list of everything coming to Amazon Prime in September below.

Netflix In October 2018: All The New Movies, TV Shows, And Originals Coming And Going (US)

By Mat Elfring on Sep 29, 2018 02:42 am

The streaming giant Netflix is about to unleash a plethora of new content on its streaming service for the month of October. Starting on the first of the month, new movies, TV series, and Netflix originals will trickle out onto the service, with new content being added pretty much daily. It can be a lot to go through, but don't worry, we will be highlighting some choice picks for you to check out.

Returning for a second season on October 5 is the adult animated comedy Big Mouth. Comedians Nick Kroll and John Mulaney star as two adolescent boys going through puberty. The raunchy series has the duo trying to understand life, girls, and everything else while dealing with hormone monsters and uncomfortable moments in early sexuality.

Speaking of returning Netflix originals, Castlevania comes back for a second helping on October 26. The series follows Trevor Belmont as he fights the evil forces of Dracula. Season 1 writer Warren Ellis returns, picking up on the huge cliffhanger from last year with Alucard. This season will add more episodes for a total of eight, doubling up from Season 1's four.

As far as movies and television go, October 1 is when Netflix will release most of its content. Out of everything coming out that day, you'll want to watch/rewatch the classic '80s adventure movie The NeverEnding Story or the first rated-R Marvel movie that matters--sorry, Dolph Lundgren's The Punisher--Blade. Additionally, Blade II will be available as well. Also, Season 4 of Gotham is coming to Netflix as well, and you can see just how crazy this series has become for yourself.

Sadly, there are a few great items leaving the service as well. The fantastic comedy series Freaks and Geeks is on its way out on October 1, along with Sin City and The Lost Boys. Even though Halloween is right around the corner, The Babadook is headed out on October 14 and V/H/S 2 leaves on October 24.

Check out the complete list of everything coming and going from Netflix below, and if you're looking for more news from streaming services, we have complete October arrivals lists from Hulu and Amazon Prime Video as well.

Amazon Prime Video: All The New TV Shows And Movies Coming October 2018 (US)

By Mat Elfring on Sep 29, 2018 02:42 am

October is almost here, and Amazon Prime Video is releasing a whole new batch of content for you to binge, from movies to TV series to original content. There is a long list of new stuff being added, but we have a few suggestions for you to check out. Here's what you have to look forward to in the upcoming month.

Because Halloween is right around the corner, you're probably looking for a few scares, and Amazon Prime has you covered. Coming on October 1 is Clive Barker's Nightbreed. Craig Sheffer plays Aaron Boone, a rebel who is drawn to a place called Midian, where deformed monsters live. Boone becomes one of the monsters himself, and a serial killer tries to make Boone a scapegoat. It is Barker's most underrated film as a director or writer. Additionally, the Jim Carrey horror/thriller The Number 23 hits the service, and while it is not a good movie by any means, it is an entertaining movie to watch.

As far as Prime Originals go, The Man in the High Castle returns for Season 3 on October 5 and Lore gets a second season on October 19. Also, the Amazon children's series Tumbleleaf gets a Halloween special on October 19.

Below, you'll find a full listing of everything coming to Amazon in October. The vast majority of the service's releases for the month will be on Friday, October 1. If you're looking for more subscription service releases for October, check out what Hulu has in store next month.

Destiny 2 Forsaken's Spider Bounty -- Wanted: Gravetide Summoner

By Chris Pereira on Sep 29, 2018 02:41 am

Destiny 2's latest weekly reset has brought with it yet another set of activities to take part in, and a new round of bounties from Spider. If you've been playing since the launch of Forsaken, you likely know what to expect, and the highlight as always when it comes to Spider is the bounty that rewards you with Powerful gear. For this week, it's Wanted: Gravetide Summoner. Here's where to go and how to complete the mission.

Unlike the majority of Spider's bounties, there's little confusion about where to go with the one that rewards Powerful gear. You'll receive an Adventure in the Director on the planet where the target is located, which in this case is Titan (right near The Rig Landing Zone). Head there to start the mission--Bungie's recommended Power level for it is 540. You can watch a video of the action above; it essentially consists of a fight against a tough ogre before you get to face your ultimate target.

Manage to complete the Adventure and you'll net yourself some Powerful gear. This is among the most desirable form of reward in Destiny 2, as it's likely to increase your Power level (making you more powerful and potentially making more high-level activities viable to you). As such, it's good to knock out as many challenges and bounties each week as possible that offer them, such as this Spider bounty and the Ascendant Challenge.

Alongside the weekly reset, Bungie has launched a new Crucible mode called Breakthrough. It will be featured in its own playlist for this week before transitioning into the Competitive playlist. You've also got a new Ascendant Challenge if you're looking for something difficult to tackle, as well as the next mission from Petra to continue the story that has developed since Forsaken's Raid was beaten for the first time.

Destiny 2 Makes It Much Easier To Get A Seed Of Light And Third Forsaken Subclass

By Chris Pereira on Sep 29, 2018 02:39 am

In many ways, Destiny 2's Forsaken DLC feels like it was designed to cater to more hardcore, dedicated players than the base game. That extends to the acquisition of the new subclass branches, of which each class received three. The first is quite easy, the second requires access to a late-game area, and the third was previously reserved for those brave enough to dive into the Raid. Right now, however, one of the weekly bounties makes it much easier to get your hands on the Seed of Light item required to unlock one of these trees.

Among the bounties you can acquire from Petra this week is Gateway Between Worlds. This tasks you with taking part in the Blind Well activity located in the Dreaming City. Once that's complete, you're rewarded with an Offering to the Oracle. Typically, presenting that offering would reward you with a chest, but now, as the post-Raid story continues to unfold in the Dreaming City, you're instead presented with a portal. Go through that to be sent to the Queen's Court, where you can actually interact with the MIA queen, Mara Sov.

Once you're there, you'll get access to a chest that gives you a Seed of Light--a consumable item that lets you unlock a new subclass branch. As you can see in the images above, you can also platform your way to an object you can scan for a piece of lore.

New subclass branches are particularly desirable for variety's sake (or if you just hate the choices you made previously), but they've proven hard to obtain. As noted above, the game doesn't just hand out Seeds of Light after your first one. It does warn you that they're rare, but it's been an unexpected surprise just how long you may have to wait to get your second and third seeds.

Regardless, this new avenue is a welcome development to those eager to try something new who aren't yet prepared for the Raid. It's the latest tweak to the game we've seen since Forsaken's launch earlier this month. The changes have been coming often, with new content unlocked after the Raid was first beaten, a new Crucible mode launching, and the addition of quests leading to weapons like Malfeasance. Curious New Avengers 4 On-Set Image Hints At Possible Villains

By Dan Auty on Sep 29, 2018 02:38 am

Anticipation is high for next year's Avengers 4, and a new image has been released from the set. Although principal photography was completed last year, the cast and crew have assembled for additional shooting ahead of its May 2019 release.

The latest image comes via Benedict Wong, who plays Doctor Strange's associate Wong. It's the strange picture of Wong in make-up, with the back of his head being seemingly being pulled off by off-camera crew members. Why exactly he needs a replica skin isn't clear, although some fans have speculated that it could be a Skrull disguise. In any case, Wong's caption is giving nothing away: "Happy to be filming @avengers 4. But the cleaning of spoilers is a bit much." Check the image out below.

A post shared by Benedict Wong (@wongrel) on

Avengers 4 is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, and it hits theaters on May 3, 2019. This latest image followed the cryptic picture tweeted last week by co-director Joe Russo, in which a series of letters 'A's were seemingly hidden. The movie is now only seven months from release, but despite rumors, we still don't know its title yet.

Back in July, the Russo brothers appeared at San Diego Comic-Con, and spoke about how they were approaching the follow-up to the phenomenally successful Infinity War. "I think ultimately Avengers 4 may be our best work for Marvel. I think we've grown with every movie that we've made there," he said. "You know, it's always an agenda of ours to block out the outside noise because it can lead you to make some bad choices with the material. We've learned over the years just to listen to ourselves, and it's great that there's two of us that we can have conversations with each other."

In related news, the first trailer for Captain Marvel was released last week. The movie hits theaters in March and is the first of three films within the MCU set for release in 2019, with Spider-Man: Far From Home arriving in July.

Dark Phoenix Movie Trailer Debuts; Release Date Quickly Delayed

By Dan Auty on Sep 29, 2018 02:36 am

The first trailer for Dark Phoenix is here. The movie is the latest entry in the X-Men series, and tells the classic story from Marvel's comic books. It stars Sophie Turner, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Jennifer Lawrence and arrives in February. [Update: Not anymore! Just two days after the debut of this trailer, Fox delayed Dark Phoenix's release date until June.

In the first trailer, we see how Jean Grey (Turner) came to find herself at Xavier's school and how her powers were uncontrollable. Charles Xavier did what he could to help Grey with her growing mutant abilities, but it all unravels in this new movie, and she's become powerful enough to take on the X-Men alone. Check it out above.

Dark Phoenix is directed by Simon Kinberg, who will make his directing debut after years as a writer and producer on X-Men movies. The cast also includes Michael Fassbender, Tye Sheridan, Olivia Munn, Alexandra Shipp, and Kodi Smit-Mcphee. Dark Phoenix was originally set to hit theaters in November, but in March it was pushed back, along with the much-delayed X-Men spin-off New Mutants.

Dark Phoenix and New Mutants, which now arrives in August 2019, will most likely be the last X-Men movies that are separate to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is expected the the upcoming purchase of Fox's entertainment assets by Disney will integrate the X-Men characters in the MCU.

In a recent interview, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige could take charge of the X-Universe as well. "I think it only makes sense," Iger said. "I want to be careful here because of what's been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn't be two Marvels."

Dark Phoenix comes to theaters on February 14.

PS4's Gran Turismo Sport Update Adds More Cars And More

By Jeremy Winslow on Sep 29, 2018 02:34 am

Gran Turismo Sport's last update, titled August Update 1.25, included a bunch of new cars, some additional tracks, a slew of GT League events, and more. And now, one month later, developers Polyphony Digitial has announced that GT Sport will see a similar update that'll feature new cars, a new track, and additional GT League events.

Kazunori Yamauchi, the president of Polyphony Digital and the creator of Gran Turismo, took to the PlayStation Blog to break down GT Sport's latest update, Patch 1.28. It'll include nine new vehicles, the new Fuji Speedway track, and three new GT League events: The Passion of Dr. Wankel (Beginner League), Red Circuit Tours (Amateur League), and Group 1 Cup (Professional League). Lastly, the pit lane of Fuji Speedway can be used in Scapes mode, and last month's Red Bull Ring will now appear in the circuit. This update is completely free and available now.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5

The last major update for GT Sport hit the track in December 2017. Titled Patch 1.10, the update included 12 additional cars, like the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari and Lamborghini Countach LP400. In addition to a dozen cars, the update also saw the introduction of the GT League, a new single-player game mode that features several different series of races to challenge, such as the Sunday Cup, Clubman Cub, and FF Challenge.

Our Gran Turismo Sport review said sim-racing fans will find that "it's easy to look past the smaller car and track roster and appreciate the incredibly detailed and responsive driving model, which is better than anything the series has offered before."

Gran Turismo Sport is available now for PlayStation 4.

The Walking Dead Star Andrew Lincoln Had Plans To Leave Sooner

By Jeremy Winslow on Sep 29, 2018 02:34 am

For many fans of The Walking Dead, losing a central character like Rick Grimes, portrayed by Andrew Lincoln, probably feels like a gut-punch. But fans should rejoice to see the celebrated English actor return to the role one final time, as Entertainment Weekly has reported that Lincoln was originally supposed to leave last season.

In an interview with EW, Andrew Lincoln revealed that plans were in place for him to depart during Season 8. "Eight seasons was certainly something. Last season was a shape that I had in my head and it was certainly something that Scott [Gimple, executive producer] was possibly thinking about as well that was a completion of a certain chapter which could be called Rick's falling," Lincoln said.

The idea that Lincoln would leave the show after eight seasons was first contemplated during the show's fourth season. "You know, [Gimple and I] shared young families, and there was a lot of synchronicity between the two of us that were two heads of a show that seemed to be getting bigger and bigger," Lincoln told EW. However, Lincoln lamented that he wasn't ready to move on. "I realized that rather than have the funeral, I had to prepare for the funeral and I had to make sure everybody was comfortable with the funeral arrangements. And I don't think I was ready for the funeral! You know what I mean? I was like, I don't think I'm ready to go yet!"

Lincoln confirmed his departure from AMC's zombie-drama back in July during an SDCC 2018 panel. "This will be my last season," Lincoln told the panel's attendees. "I love this show, it means everything to me. I love the people who make this show--I promise not to cry, I've done enough crying on screen--I am also deeply fond of the people who watch this show, you people."

While it may all sound like doom and gloom, it seems Lincoln could return to the show to direct. "I'm going back to shadow a director, and my intention is to direct next year." There may be more of Andrew Lincoln after all.

Season 9 of The Walking Dead is set to air on October 7.

Netflix Announces Three New Sci-Fi Shows, Including Comic Adaptations

By Steve Watts on Sep 29, 2018 02:31 am

Netflix has announced three new sci-fi drama series on the way, including one based on a series of manga novels. Warrior Nun, October Faction, and The I-Land are joining the line-up for the popular streaming service, with release dates to be announced.

Warrior Nun is the manga-inspired series, following a woman who wakes up in a morgue to discover she's now part of an ancient order of demon hunters. Simon Barry (Ghost Wars) is serving as showrunner.

October Faction is similarly based on the IDW comic series, revolving around a couple of monster hunters named Fred and Deloris Allen. The pair return to Fred's hometown and have to hide their identities while unlocking the secrets of the town. Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow, Krypton) is executive producer and showrunner.

Finally, The I-Land is an ensemble show about 10 people who wake up on an island with no memories of who they are or how they arrived. The island tasks them with grueling challenges to survive and improve themselves. It stars Kate Bosworth, who is also producing the series. She's joined by Natalie Martinez (The Crossing) and Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike).

The three new additions join a pretty full slate of sci-fi on Netflix, which includes Locke & Key, V Wars, Wu Assassins, The Order, and Another Life. Locke and Key is another IDW comic adaptation, having been picked up and redeveloped by Netflix after Hulu passed on the pilot. Check out what else is new on Netflix in October.

Destiny 2's Masterworks Cores Are Changing For The Better, Here's How

By Chris Pereira on Sep 29, 2018 02:27 am

Masterwork Cores have existed in Destiny 2 for some time now, but a patch released just before Forsaken's launch made them more important than ever. Bungie has now acknowledged some of the complaints regarding how they work and laid out its plan for overhauling them.

Masterwork Cores were previously used for one purpose: to upgrade a weapon or piece of armor into a Masterwork version. This would have various effects (improved stats, causing Orbs of Light to drop after a multikill, etc.) but they are unquestionably better than non-Masterworks. Cores are rare and obtained by breaking down items that randomly dropped as Masterwork versions.

As of Forsaken's big update, however, Masterwork Cores are a key ingredient in Infusion--the process of using the higher Power level of one item to raise the level of another item. Bungie intended to make Infusion something you would have to strongly consider before committing to, rather than the obvious path to take with any piece of gear you like. Masterworks are also used for upgrading a piece of gear's tier, a process which eventually culminates in forging a Masterwork version of it.

But many players argue Masterwork Cores are too rare, something Bungie acknowledged in its latest weekly blog post. It outlined two problems: "Masterwork Cores have a misleading name. When they were created, the definition of a pinnacle item put the emphasis almost entirely on Masterworking. We expanded that definition in Forsaken, but didn't update the currency. [Also] There are not enough reliable sources to earn Masterwork Cores, which can make deciding what to spend them on too difficult."

Bungie says it's been looking at "monitoring Core supplies and the numbers aren't as high as we'd like." As a result, it plans to make unspecified changes to "create more reliable and plentiful Core sources." It also intends to rename Cores to something else.

Post-Forsaken, you have two primary routes for obtaining Masterwork Cores: breaking down Masterwork items (just like before) and buying them from Spider. The latter route is something you can do at any time, but the price (Legendary Shards) increases with each one you purchase. However, this price resets daily, though the process can be something of a nuisance as it requires you to travel to him each day.

Bungie also brought good news for those annoyed by the droprate of Exotic items in Forsaken. While it won't be increasing them outright, it sounds like Bungie will be making changes to ensure you're less likely to see a duplicate drop of an Exotic item you already own.

Destiny 2 Weekly Reset: Xur, Malfeasance Is Out, Easy Seed Of Light, Ascendant Challenge

By Chris Pereira on Sep 29, 2018 02:26 am

Tuesday has arrived, which means the weekly reset in Destiny 2: Forsaken has taken place. As always, this marks a shift across the game, as standard challenges are reset (offering a new set of Powerful rewards) and other activities are shuffled to present you with something new to do. The Iron Banner has concluded and Lord Saladin is gone from the Tower, but this week marks the debut of a new Crucible mode. Here's everything to know about the latest weekly reset.

Malfeasance Is Here

When playing Gambit, a special Primeval can now spawn in that drops an item called the Seething Heart. This leads to a series of quest steps (some of them quite difficult) that ultimately results in the acquisition of the Exotic hand cannon Malfeasance.

Where Is Xur?

After the reset earlier in the week, Xur is now here for the weekend. He's got the usual slate of four Exotics--one weapon and one piece of armor per class--along with the Fated Engram. You'll find him on Earth. Check out our Xur guide for the full rundown on what to expect from him during this appearance.

Easy Seed Of Light

Forsaken's new subclass branches are unlocked by getting your hands on rare items through Seeds of Light. The first of these is guaranteed early in the DLC's story, while the second and third were previously reserved for higher-end activities. The third, in particular, could be very difficult to obtain for many, as it was locked behind the Raid. However, a new development involving Petra's weekly bounty means you can easily get a Seed of Light--and your third subclass branch.

Breakthrough, The New Crucible Mode, Is Live

Bungie has launched a brand-new Crucible game type called Breakthrough. This is a mode that transforms partway through the match. Initially, two teams compete to control an area. The team that successfully does so gets their hands on the Breaker, which then has to be taken to the other team's Vault to hack it (while that team attempts to defend). The hacking team has a certain amount of time to successfully pull off the hack, and if they don't manage to complete it, they lose. It's a best-of-five affair.

Breakthrough will be live for a week as the featured playlist (and is available to Forsaken owners for private matches), so you can easily jump in and take part in a match. With the weekly reset on October 2, Breakthrough will join the Competitive playlist. There are also new maps, including a PS4-exclusive one, to play the mode on.

Ascendant Challenge

The Ascendant Challenge has moved locations once again. Once you've grabbed the weekly bounty from Petra, you can use a Tincture of Queensfoil to gain a buff that will allow you to see and access the Taken portal. This week's portal is located in Harbinger's Seclude; you can see where to go and what to do in our Ascendant Challenge guide. A piece of Powerful gear is up for grabs by completing the bounty. Just be prepared for some platforming.

Spider Bounty -- Wanted: Gravetide Summoner

Spider's set of bounties have rotated, but the one you should care about most is the most expensive. For five Ghost Fragments, you can pick up Wanted: Gravetide Summoner, which is worth doing because it offers Powerful gear, unlike Spider's other bounties. The corresponding Adventure for this bounty can be found on Titan.

Nightfall

Among the Nightfall Strike options this week are the following: The Corrupted, The Inverted Spire, and Strange Terrain. All three carry the same 540 Power level recommendation. Most notable among these is The Corrupted, which was added to the game after Forsaken's launch, once the DLC's Raid was beaten for the first time.

Eververse

The selection of items and bounties available from Tess at Eververse has changed again. Of course, you'll want the Rise of the Challenge bounty, which provides you with a Prismatic Facet for completing any challenge (the Facet is used to activate the Prismatic Matrix, netting you a cosmetic reward). Among the weekly bounties, the most lucrative--in terms of Bright Dust earned based on the Eververse Bouty Notes spent--is Heroism in Battle, which has you complete five Strikes within a week.

As for the lineup of items available with the Prismatic Matrix, which rotates each week, there are two Exotics and a handful of items up for grabs--all 10 are from Forsaken. Here's the full list:

  • All Mine -- Exotic emote
  • Sneak Attack -- Exotic weapon ornament for The Colony
  • Loaded Dice -- Legendary weapon ornament for Hazard of the Cast
  • Denial Dance -- Legendary emote
  • Swiftsong -- Legendary Sparrow
  • Spectral Circuit Shell -- Legendary Ghost Shell
  • Cordial Diamond Shell -- Legendary Ghost Shell
  • Battle-Shrike -- Legendary Sparrow
  • Beastly Projection -- Rare Ghost Projection
  • Lucky Shot -- Rare Emote

Petra

Unfortunately, Bungie has continued to move Petra around. She's no longer located next to the Dreaming City's Landing Zone, having moved to a new spot in Rheasilvia. She'll as always offer a piece of Powerful gear for completing two of her weekly bounties, of which you have several choices.

Among them is a new mission, Dark Monastery, that continues the story that's developed since Forsaken's Raid was first beaten. You'll also notice some visual differences in the Dreaming City, with Taken Blight balls filling in the sky in some spots.

Clan Bounties

Three new weekly bounties from Hawthorne are now available. These run the gamut and unfortunately don't overlap at all--you'll be taking part in Escalation Protocol, the Blind Well, and Adventures. All three offer Legendary gear and clan XP, although the one involving Escalation Protocol nets you the most experience points.

  • Mutual Escalation -- complete five waves of Escalation Protocol with clanmates
  • Draw From the Well -- Tier II and Tier III completions with clanmates
  • Band of Adventurers -- complete three Adventures with clanmates

Vanguard Strikes

The weekly challenge for Strikes calls on you to complete a Strike using the same element of subclass as one of your team members--Void would be a wise choice, as you'll see below. You'll have to do this three times to earn a Powerful gear reward. The modifiers for this week are as follows:

  • Void Singe -- increases Void damage
  • Glass -- recovery is twice as fast but health and shields are halved
  • Heavyweight -- more Power ammo, Power weapons do more damage

Daily Heroic Story Missions

Another set of five story missions are available for you to choose from for daily Heroics. Completing any three of these during the week will net you a Powerful gear reward. The modifiers are the same as the Vanguard Strikes outlined above--Void Singe, Glass, and Heavyweight. Here are your choices and the recommended Power levels:

  • Combustion -- 280
  • Looped -- 280
  • The Gateway -- 310
  • Deep Storage -- 310
  • Off-World Recovery -- 360

Gambit

The weekly bounty you can pick up from The Drifter right now is Do It. This tasks you with earning a total of 12 points--you start out with zero and earn three for each win, but a loss will add one. The reward is 75 Infamy rank points along with a piece of Powerful gear.

Flashpoint

The Flashpoint isn't tied directly to the weekly reset, as it rotates more than once a week. As of this writing, you'll find it on Io; simply complete any activities, like Public Events, Lost Sectors, and Heroic Adventures to build the completion meter and earn a piece of Powerful gear.

That's because, all weekend long, you can get 23% off of nearly every PC game on the site--including pre-orders and games that are already on sale. To get the offer, all you have to do is enter promo code PAYDAY23 at checkout. A few exclusions apply, and most of the games come in the form of Steam codes. Let's take a look at some of the highlights.

Monster Hunter World and Shadow of the Tomb Raider are two of the biggest game releases of the year, and you can get them each for $46 right now. Not bad! For the same price, you can dive into the classic-style JRPG Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.

Speaking of RPGs, World of Final Fantasy is already on sale for 56% off, so when you knock an additional 23% off the sale price, it ends up costing just $14. Nioh: Complete Edition is similarly discounted outside of this offer, which means you can get it this weekend for $23. And although the first episode is all that's been released so far, you can order the whole season of Life is Strange 2 for $31.

As mentioned above, the offer extends to pre-orders as well, so if you're planning on getting an upcoming PC game, it's worth checking if GMG has it available. You save $14 on any game with a normal retail price of $60, so you can get upcoming games like Devil May Cry 5, Just Cause 4, and Hitman 2 for $46 each. Mega Man 11 and Disgaea 5 Complete are down to $23 apiece.

You'll find more of our picks below, or you can visit the site to look at the rest of the games. Now go save some money--just make sure to add the promo code before you check out.

The Best Game Deals Of The Week: Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, And PC (US)

By Chris Reed on Sep 29, 2018 02:22 am

We all love playing video games, but with new titles going for $60 or more depending on the edition, the hobby gets expensive fast. Thankfully, many gaming retailers have regular sales to save you money. But even so, it's hard to know if you're getting the best deal available at any given time. To help solve that problem, we've gone through the week's video game sales and highlighted the best game deals for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Before looking at the discounts, though, you should make sure you've picked up all the free games you can get. PlayStation Plus members can download some fantastic games for free this month, including Destiny 2 (for next month's freebies, see the video above). Xbox Live Gold subscribers can also grab a few freebies right now, and if you're an Amazon Prime member, you can get five free PC games from Twitch.

With that out of the way, let's look at this week's best discounts on individual games.

Sale On PS4, Xbox One, And Nintendo Switch Games This Week At GameStop (US Only)

By Chris Reed on Sep 29, 2018 02:21 am

Each Wednesday, GameStop tosses its previous batch of weekly deals in the garbage and replaces it with a shiny new set of discounts. This week's ad is now live on the gaming retailer's website, so let's buckle in and see what kind of items we can save cash on this week.

Lots of fine games have gotten temporary price cuts, including Grand Theft Auto V, BioShock: The Collection, and Rise of the Tomb Raider - 20 Year Celebration, all of which are down to $20 apiece. Prospective detectives can also pick up LA Noire on any system (including Switch) for the same price.

A new season of football has kicked off, but sadly NFL games don't happen every day of the week. To fill in those off days, you can pick up Madden NFL 19 for $20 off this week, bringing it down to $40. This year's game is another fine installment; check out our Madden NFL 19 review for details.

If you think an arcade cabinet would make a fine addition to your gaming room, you can pre-order from a selection of four from Arcade1Up. Each one is 3/4 the size of a standard cabinet (though you can also buy a riser to bring it up to full size) and comes with four games, including Street Fighter II, Rampage, Centipede, and Asteroids. The cabinets cost $300 each, with free shipping.

In addition to games, lots of gear and collectibles are on sale this week as well. There's a "buy one, get one half off" deal on t-shirts and board/puzzle/card games. If you're back in school, you might want to pick up a backpack for 25% off. In trading news, you can get a guaranteed $20 credit toward the pre-order or purchase of any new game by trading in one of these select games.

You can find more game deals below, or check out the weekly ad to see it for yourself.

The Best Gaming TVs For 2018

By Chris Reed on Sep 29, 2018 02:20 am

Next to your game console, your television is the most critical part of any gaming setup. No matter how much power your console brings or how revolutionary your newest game is, you'll experience it through your TV. If you're a gamer who's thinking of upgrading your current television, you'll probably want to know what TV is the right one for you. Below, we have you covered across a variety of price points. Whether you play games on an Xbox One, PS4, or Nintendo Switch, you'll want to take a look at the best gaming TVs of 2018.

Considerations

No matter what TV you decide to purchase, you'll want to take a few key features into consideration.

4K: Assuming you plan to keep your television around for the better part of the next decade, you'll want to future-proof your set as much as you can. And with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X on the market--and next-gen consoles not too far out--4K is clearly the default resolution going forward. They cost a bit more than less pixel-dense displays, but prices have come down a lot in recent years.

HDR: Most newer TVs support HDR, or high dynamic range. This basically means that the television can display an exceptionally high contrast ratio--meaning brighter brights--and a wider range of colors. Not all HDR televisions are created equal, though, so you have to be careful when buying. However, when it's done right, it makes the image practically burst off the screen.

Input lag: When it comes to gaming, one of the most important specs a TV can have is low input lag. Input lag is the amount of time it takes the TV to display new information from a source. When playing a game, that's the time between you pressing a button on the controller and the result occurring onscreen. Unfortunately, input lag isn't something TV manufacturers put on their spec sheets. To get that information, you need to visit a site like RTings that performs in-depth tests. We've taken input lag into consideration in the selections below.

For those with deep enough pockets to drop a couple grand on a television, you can't go wrong with an LG OLED C7. For starters, our sister site CNET says it's the best overall TV they've ever tested. Its picture looks better than even more expensive units, with exceptional brightness and a spectacular color range. It also has low input lag for precision gaming.

Beyond its exceptional functionality, it features a thoughtfully minimalist design. With only a thin black border lining the screen and no logo visible on its front, everything but the display melts away when you turn it on.

Best Gaming TV Under $1,000

TVs that cost between $700 and $1,000 fall in the happy medium between budget sets and high-end technological beasts. They don't reach the heights of picture quality you'll find in models that cost twice as much or more, but you can definitely see the improvement when compared with cheaper TVs.

Our pick for this category is the TCL 6 series, which presents terrific image quality, with bright brights, deep blacks, and excellent colors. According to CNET, it has the best picture in its class and can nearly hold its own against TVs in the $2,000 range.

Best Budget 4K Gaming TV

For an even cheaper option, try the TCL 4 series. These are still 4K HDR televisions, but they come in wider range of sizes, including smaller models with scaled-down pricing that starts at under $300. As expected, the image quality is lower than you'll find in the pricier TVs above, but the input lag is nice and low, and it beats out other televisions in this price range. Read CNET's TLC 4 review for more information.
