Earlier today, the official Microsoft Xbox YouTube channel published an impressive new video for CD Projekt Red's upcoming role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Since the video was published to the Xbox channel, some might have thought the gameplay was captured on the Xbox One edition of the game.
However, it's now been discovered by Kotaku that the footage of the game shown in the video is from the PC edition, not the Xbox One version, despite the Xbox logo being featured prominently. Microsoft has since apologized for the confusion (more on that later).
Microsoft never explicitly stated that the footage was not captured on Xbox One, but--just a few hours after the video went up--the company added a disclaimer to the video to say the footage was "captured on a PC."
One major giveaway that the footage was captured on PC and not Xbox One is that the gameplay video plays at 1080p/60fps. The Xbox One version of The Witcher 3, however, outputs at 900p/30fps, which raised some red flags--the video's comments are overflowing with people pointing out the difference.
In a statement sent to GameSpot this afternoon, a Microsoft representative said it never intended to misrepresent the visual fidelity of the Xbox One version of The Witcher 3, and apologized for any confusion caused by the video.
"This morning we posted a new trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to our YouTube channels featuring footage provided by CD Projekt Red that was captured from the PC version of the game and may not be reflective of final Xbox One gameplay," the spokesperson said. "This was in no way intended to misrepresent the title on Xbox One. We have updated the description of the asset to make clear the source and platform of this footage. We apologize for any confusion and look forward to the game arriving on both Xbox One and PC on May 19, 2015."
Whatever the case, The Witcher 3 looks quite nice across all platforms: PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. But the PC version, like so many other games, is likely to look the best, as it will run at 60fps (if your computer can run it).
An updated version of Halo 3: ODST's campaign and a reimagined version of the Halo 2 multiplayer map Relic should be added to Halo: The Master Chief Collection next month, developer 343 Industries has announced.
"We're excited about the progress of the Relic multiplayer map remake and the Campaign for Halo 3: ODST, both of which are on track to release within Halo: The Master Chief Collection next month with our next content update," 343 Industries said in an update to Halo Waypoint. "Look for more details next month, including the final map name for the Relic remake, release date, and more."
As Microsoft previously announced, if you played Halo: The Master Chief Collection between launch (November 11) and December 19, you'll get it for free as an apology for the game's troubled launch, which suffered from severe matchmaking issues.
The Halo Waypoint update also details a long list of improvements and bug fixes included in the most recent content update, which you can read in full here.

Total War: Warhammer, which was originally leaked in January and then teased in March, has been officially announced. Sega and The Creative Assembly on Wednesday released a cinematic announcement trailer for the turn-based strategy game, which teases "our rules have changed," referencing that this is the first high fantasy game in the series.
The video is narrated by British actor Steven Berkoff (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, A Clockwork Orange).
What we do see is all manner of fantasy elements, including flying beasts, men wielding magic, orcs, dwarfs, goblins, and more. The game is in development at The Creative Assembly (Total War: Attila, Alien: Isolation) by way of a partnership with Warhammer license-holder Games Workshop.
In a press release, Sega said Total War: Warhammer will deliver "hundreds of hours" of gameplay--and two additional expansions will follow. Total War: Warhammer is the first in a three-part trilogy, Sega said, noting that two standalone installments--as well as further DLC packs--will be released later.
This all combines for the "single largest Total War experience ever," Sega said.
No release date for Total War: Warhammer has been announced, but the video ends by teasing that the game is "coming soon." Platforms have not been revealed, but PC is a safe bet given the franchise's long history on that platform.
In a post on the Xbox Wire today, Microsoft outlined the numerous new features coming to the PC Xbox app for Windows 10, which is currently available to anyone in the Microsoft Insider program. Provided you're in that program, the features listed here will be available when you update to version 4.4.9014.0.
The new features include Game DVR and screenshot functionality, two items already available on Xbox One. Also included in the April update is a new Avatar app where you can customize your avatar's appearance, along with updates to User Profile settings and an option to show your real name (also already available on Xbox One).
In addition, the new Xbox app on Windows 10 has been updated to support live-streaming TV if you already have an Xbox One with a digital TV tuner. What's more, Xbox One controller drivers are now baked into Windows 10, so you won't have to download them separately.
In the same blog post, Microsoft also revealed some of the new Xbox One and SmartGlass updates now available to people in the Preview program. Among these features are voice messages (which were originally set to arrive in March), a new power-saving prompt, and the ability to power on and off your console using the SmartGlass app.
All the new Xbox Windows 10 and Xbox One features are listed below, with official descriptions courtesy of Microsoft. You can also see a video of these new features in action on the Xbox Wire.
WINDOWS 10:
Game DVR for PC games – The Game bar lets you record game clips of your favorite Windows games. With an upcoming Windows Insider update (build 10061 or higher), you will be able to record game clips for Windows PC games using the new Game bar available on Windows 10. To bring up the Game bar, press Windows + G. Click the "Record that" button to save the last 30 seconds of gameplay, or just press Windows + Alt + G. Additionally, you can manually start and stop recording a game clip by clicking on the "Record" button on the Game bar or pressing Windows + Alt + R. The length of a recording, including the maximum length, can be changed in Settings >Game DVR in the Xbox app. There are also a few key settings within the Game bar itself. Get started by turning on "Record game clips and screenshots" in the Xbox app. Once enabled, there are options for background recording, video and audio quality. After enabling game DVR, you may need to sign out of Windows 10 and back in for the Game bar to appear.
Screenshots – Take screenshots of Windows PC games by pressing Windows + Alt + PrtScr. Just as with Game DVR, you can also do this by clicking the "Screenshot" button on the Game bar.
Live Tiles – The Xbox tile on your Windows 10 start menu can now welcomes you back, showing off your gamerpic and letting you know when you have new messages and activity alerts. To turn this on, go to Settings > General > Live tile.
Avatar app – A new app is available in the Windows Store to customize your Xbox avatar's appearance and outfit your avatar with a vast collection of items. In the Xbox app, click the icon for your profile or your friends' profiles to see their Xbox avatar. You can download the Avatar app from the Store on Windows 10. Also, there is a new Avatar sub-forum on the Xbox Feedback site, here.
User profile – You can see another gamer's bio, location, reputation, tenure, and other information in the more info page, including their animated avatar. You can also view their showcase items, including favorite achievements or game clips they added to their profile on their Xbox One.
Real name sharing – Similar to the features we brought you in the March update on Xbox One, you can now choose to share your real name on the Xbox app with all of your friends or with everybody. Click on the "…" at the top of your profile page, then choose Name sharing settings to view and update these settings
Xbox One Now Playing and media controls –The games and apps you've used most recently on your Xbox One are now displayed when you connect the Xbox app to your console. You can also use the Xbox app to pause, fast forward and rewind.
Live TV streaming and PIP (picture in picture) support – For preview members with an Xbox One Digital TV Tuner (in 16 European countries and Australia) or a Hauppauge 955Q TV Tuner (available in the U.S. or Canada) attached to their Xbox One, you can now stream live TV within your home from your Xbox One to Windows 10 PC running the Xbox app. This feature is also available in Xbox One SmartGlass on Windows 8 PCs, Windows Phone 8, iOS, and Android devices. The OneGuide on mobile devices now also provides PIP (picture in picture) support, so you can continue to stream and watch TV while you are using the OneGuide.
Xbox controller drivers – The drivers for Xbox controllers are now included with Windows 10, so you no longer have to download and install controller drivers on Windows 10.
XBOX ONE AND SMARTGLASS:
Over-the-air TV for the U.S. and Canada – Earlier this month, we announced the preview for an Over-the-Air Tuner for the U.S. and Canada. With this preview update to Xbox One, a new screen has been added after the initial channel scan to show a sorted list of channels and channel logos so you can tell what channels you receive. You can also choose to scan again from this screen, if you want to move your antenna and give it another try.
Power on and off from Xbox One SmartGlass – The beta versions of the Xbox One SmartGlass apps for Windows, Windows Phone, and Android will be updated to let you turn your Xbox One on and off. (Your device does need to be on the same home network as your console.) This feature request has more than 4,000 votes on the Xbox Feedback site. The beta versions can be found in the respective stores by searching for "Xbox One SmartGlass Beta."
Wireless Display app – With more than 2,000 votes, Miracast support will be enabled on Xbox One for preview participants later this week, so you can mirror the experiences on Windows PCs (for example, Surface 2, 3, or 3 Pro; Lenovo X1 carbon; Dell Venue 8), Windows Phone 8, and some Android devices (e.g. Samsung S5, Nexus 7, Motorola Droid) that support non-protected Miracast connections. Try the Wireless Display app to cast photos stored on your phone to your Xbox One, or to stream non-protected video content from your PC to your Xbox.
User-selectable power mode – The team here at Xbox is also altering the initial setup experience on Xbox One worldwide to enable you to select your preferred power mode. Instant-on enables you to use the "Xbox on" voice command and receive background updates to console, game, and app updates. Energy-saving mode is a low power state that requires you to press the Xbox button on your console to start up your Xbox One. For additional information, see this post on Xbox Wire.
Voice messages – The ability to send and receive voice messages from the Xbox One messages app continues in preview this month. Also, the ability to create a voice message while in a party chat will be enabled and support will be added for third-party headsets.
The beta is described as "limited," and you'll need to receive an invitation to take part. if you've been accepted, you'll receive an email (check your spam!) with instructions for how to get started.
Bethesda warns that not everyone who signed up for the game's beta will be invited. It's unclear what criteria the developer is using to determine who gets in and who doesn't. If you do get in, it's recommended that you start your download right away due to the game's massive file size (more on that below).
The Elder Scrolls Online console beta begins Thursday, April 23, at 10 AM EDT and comes to a close on Monday, April 27, at 10 AM EDT.
Bethesda has also published a detailed FAQ about the beta. In it, the developer explains that there is no non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for the trial period; in fact, the studio said it encourages users to share screenshots and livestream their gameplay as much as they'd like.
The FAQ also mentions that any progress you make in the Elder Scrolls Online console beta will not carry forward to the full version when it arrives on June 9. It also points out that the console beta does not support cross-platform play and that the version of The Elder Scrolls Online included in the beta is the full game and nothing less. Check out the full FAQ for more.
Bethesda also released a handful of new screenshots today from the console versions of The Elder Scrolls Online. You can see those images in the gallery at the bottom of this post.
In addition, Bethesda today announced that the console version of The Elder Scrolls Online will be a massive download, weighing in at potentially more than 65 GB.
"The Elder Scrolls Online is an incredibly massive game, both in terms of sheer scope and the data required to bring you this truly enormous experience," the developer said. "At the moment, the client will exceed a 50 GB Blu-ray disc which means there will also be a large day-one patch that is somewhere in the region of 15 GB."
The Elder Scrolls Online was originally released for PC in April 2014. The console versions were at one point expected to launch that year, but were later delayed to 2015. In January, Bethesda announced that it was doing away with the game's mandatory monthly subscription fee, rebranding the game The Elder Scrolls Online Tamriel Unlimited.
Bethesda is also offering a nice discount plan for people who already bought the PC/Mac edition and are looking to pick up the console version; you'll need to meet a few requirements, however.
In a funny Instagram video, legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk offered the latest tease for his upcoming game with Activision. He enlisted his skater pal Rob Wootton to act out the "select your character" animations from past Tony Hawk Pro Skater games. He even uses a song from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2.
"Select your character (by @rob.wootton)," Hawk wrote as a caption. "I am sharing this now in honor of our next game having been accidentally 'leaked' recently...THPS fans will rejoice. Details soon."
The "leak" mentioned in the caption is likely a reference to a promotional event for the game earlier this month. Hawk's caterer released a photo from inside the venue that revealed "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5" as the name of the upcoming skateboarding game, according to Polygon.
The new Tony Hawk game was announced in November 2014. It's in development for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and is due to launch later this year. As Hawk himself says, more details about the game are set to be announced "soon." We still don't know much about it, other than that it might include hoverboards.
Activision is not only reviving the Tony Hawk franchise this year, but also Guitar Hero. The next entry in the music game series, Guitar Hero Live, will be released this fall for all major home consoles.
Following an initial tease last month, UK-based developer Codemasters on Wednesday released a new video that reveals a third entry in the core Overlord action-adventure series is in development.
The video (see it below) provides an overview of the Overlord series so far and ends by teasing that "evil always finds a way" and "we'll be back." There are also reference four-player support, and you can see flashes of gameplay at around 2:31 in the video.
Based on the teaser video, the new Overlord is a four-player top-down game, which is quite different than Overlord and Overlord II. Those games were played from a third-person perspective. However, it's not uncharted territory for the series, as Nintendo 3DS game Overlord: Minions was presented in a top-down manner.
The video ends by stating some kind of announcement about the game will be made tomorrow, April 23, at 6 AM PDT / 9 AM EDT / 2 PM UK.
Meanwhile, it appears that writer Rhianna Pratchett, who worked on Overlord and Overlord II, will return for the new Overlord title.
In February 2013, Triumph Studios--creator of the Overlord series--confirmed that it had completed "extensive pre-production, engine work and playable prototypes on projects that would very much appeal to Overlord fans." However, at the time, the studio said "volatility in our industry" related to the console transition meant the project could not be taken into full-scale production...yet.
However, now that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 console cycle is well underway, and both systems are selling generally well, it appears the time could be right for Overlord to return. Importantly, however, Codemasters has not yet announced platforms for the new Overlord game.

Independent developer Tom Happ announced Wednesday that his Metroid-style game Axiom Verge will launch for PC on May 14. The adventure game was originally released for PlayStation 4 at the end of March, and is also coming to PlayStation Vita, though a release date for that version has not yet been announced.
The PC version of the retro-themed Axiom Verge will be available through Steam and the Humble Store for $20, the same price as the PS4 edition.
In terms of PC-specific features for the Steam edition, Axiom Verge will use Steam Cloud saves and feature Trading Cards support. And just like the console edition, it'll have more than 900 rooms to explore and all the same enemies and power-ups.
You can watch a trailer for the PC version of Axiom Verge above.

Spring Fever is meant to spotlight "unique" games, with with Sony releasing a new PlayStation game every week for the duration of the event. The promotion kicked off in February and ends on April 27.
Last week's new release was Titan Souls, while this week's is Shovel Knight ($15). Developed by Yacht Club Games, Shovel Knight is a 2D side-scroller that even features God of War's Kratos as a boss. The game is also a Cross-Buy title, meaning buying it for PS4 gets you the PS3 and PS Vita versions at no extra cost.
In addition, Sony has marked down numerous Call of Duty games this week, including the most recent release, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. A variety of Takenmovies are also on sale this week. All deals are good through April 27, and PlayStation Plus members can save 10 percent.
The Humble Origin Bundle 2, a pay-what-you-want package from Electronic Arts that supports charity, has added new games to its ranks. Previously, the package included nine total games, but four more have been added, including SimCity 2000 and Wing Commander III, bringing the total to thirteen.
Together, the games would cost $155, but you can pay what you want to unlock some, and pay more than the average to get the rest. Below is a breakdown of the games available through the Humble Origin Bundle 2 and what you'll need to pay to get them.
Buyers get to decide how they want their payment to be split up between those charities, along with the Humble Bundle company itself.
At press time, more than 426,700 bundles had been sold, generating more than $2.1 million. Games are redeemable for PC on Origin and Steam, while the bundle itself will be available for another six days.
The Rockstar Games Social Club, an online service for Grand Theft Auto V and other games, has not been hacked, the developer says in a new statement. The statement, provided to Kotaku Australia, comes after players wrote on Reddit and Rockstar's own support forums that their accounts had been hijacked in the days following GTA V's release for PC, leaving them--in some cases--unable to play the game.
In its statement, however, Rockstar said it is aware of cases of compromised accounts, and is working with affected users to straighten things out. The developer also reminds players that they should avoid using the same password for multiple services--and the Rockstar Games Social Club is no exception.
"The Rockstar Games Social Club has not been compromised," the developer explained. "However, it appears that attempts have been made to access user accounts using email and password combinations from an unaffiliated, compromised website or database elsewhere on the Internet."
"For the accounts affected, we are in the process of reverting those accounts back to their original owners. As a reminder, it is a good policy to ensure that the Rockstar Games Social Club account username and password is not shared across multiple websites on the Internet."
GameSpot's GTA V PC review praised the game's improved visuals and frame rate.
"It looked great on PS4 and Xbox One, but GTA V shines on PC thanks to 4K-grade textures, the availability of additional post-processing effects, and an unlocked frame rate," reviewer Peter Brown said. "Previous versions of the game played just fine at 30 frames per second, but you quickly appreciate the added fluidity of playing at 60 FPS (if not more) on PC."
An assistant producer at EA DICE, the studio behind Star Wars Battlefront, has addressed some fans' suspicions that content is being held back so that it can be sold as DLC.
Jesper Nielsen, an assistant producer at the DICE support studio Uprise, responded to various claims published by fans on Reddit. One of the most common accusations made was that content currently in development for Star Wars Battlefront would not be shipped with the game, but instead delayed so that it can be sold as DLC.
"If you think there's anything we're not including in the game to save it for DLC, I can tell you you're 100 percent wrong," Nielsen wrote in response to one such accusation.
He added: "In this project, I've never heard anyone say, 'Let's not do this for launch so we can do it as DLC instead'. Ever."
Nielsen, who posts on the Star Wars Battlefront subreddit under the alias DICE_TheBikingViking, also addressed some suspicions regarding the Battle of Jakku maps, which will be released after the game as free DLC.
Even though it's a free add-on, one fan claimed this content was held back because--he assumed--EA wanted to have material for marketing purposes post-launch.
"The situation was never that we had the Jakku maps in the main game, and then stripped them to put them in a DLC," Nielsen explained.
"It was that the idea to do the Jakku maps came quite late in the process and we didn't have capacity to add them for launch, so we found a way to get them out to people as soon as possible after launch.
"Of course, if you want to think we're evil, you'll always think up evil motives and method. But in all essence, this is the output of hundreds of passionate people and games, just like people here, who want to deliver great gaming experiences."
Other Reddit users have praised Nielsen for his efforts in addressing some fan concerns, unfounded or otherwise.
Star Wars: Battlefront is scheduled to ship on November 17 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
Confirming earlier reports, The BBC on Wednesday officially announced casting and plot details for the network's upcoming 90-minute drama about the Grand Theft Auto series.
As rumored, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe will play the role of GTA co-creator Sam Houser, while Bill Paxton (Titanic, Apollo 13) will portray inflammatory lawyer Jack Thompson, who gained notoriety in the 2000s for taking on abrasive elements of pop culture.
The BBC's GTA feature is in development under the working title Game Changer and will air on BBC Two.
In its official synopsis, The BBC says the GTA series is "arguably the greatest British coding success story since [World War II code-breaking institution] Bletchley Park." It adds: "Game Changer tells the story of an extraordinary chapter in the history of this iconic game, and reveals the major impact it has had on our cultural landscape."
A premiere date for Game Changer was not announced.
Game Changer is directed by Owen Harris (Kill Your Friends, Holy Flying Circus) and was written by James Wood (Rev., Ambassadors). Former GameSpot editor Guy Cocker is also on the writing team for the drama.
A new update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection has gone live, bringing with it a suite of improvements and fixes to various problems, along with tougher new regulations intended to help curb quitting in online ranked matches.
Patch fixes have been lined up for all games packaged in the collection, from Halo: Combat Evolved to Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4. A full list of improvements for each title can be found below.
Meanwhile, players who now quit online ranked matches will now suffer a penalty, with each instance of absconding being treated as a loss. That means quitting a match could result in a dropped ranking.
"If you quit a match, your ranking will be impacted, and this may result in dropping a level," developer 343 Industries explained.
It added: "All quits and betrayals are being tracked automatically, and action is being taken against offending players who commit these offences more than what is considered normal behaviour."
Elsewhere, the problem where some players were ranked down excessively after losing a match appears to have been fixed. Due to the problems caused by unfair rank losses, 343 Industries said it will be resetting all rankings for Halo 2: Anniversary.
Writing on the Halo Waypoint website, 343 Industries added that it's "excited about the progress of the Relic multiplayer map remake and the campaign for Halo 3: ODST", both of which are scheduled to ship in May with the game's next content update.
A summary of all the update's changes, written by 343 Industries, can be found below.

We'll be actively monitoring the ranking system across these playlists over the next few days to ensure that everything is working properly before adding ranks to additional playlists.
QUITTING & BETRAYALS
Added new quit and betrayal penalties to matchmaking:
In ranked playlists, quitting a match is now treated the same as a loss. Quitting is defined as exiting the game in any fashion. If you quit a match, your ranking will be impacted, and this may result in dropping a level.

The developers behind Kerbal Space Program have been busy this week as they gear up for the version 1.0 launch of their amazing space simulation game.
A beta version of Kerbal Space Program has been available since 2011, and the game hit Steam Greenlight in March 2013. But April 27 marks the first "complete" version of the game.
KSP is more than just a simple space flight sim, though. As the name implies, you take control of an entire space program, and its your job to learn how to get objects into space successfully and without running into any catastrophic disasters
A developer blog on the game's official site states that the final days of this stage of development are being spent making "cool final additions and tweaks to the game" as well as "improving that sense of completion."
In what is the final note before the release of version 1.0, the developer extended its thanks to the community. "Not that this means there won't be dev notes after the release, of course, but it's a good opportunity to give you guys a massive THANK YOU!! To the entire KSP community, who stood by us throughout the four years we've been developing the game, who believed in our crazy notion of a build-a-rocket-and-fly-it game, and who continuously supported us through good and bad times, from the humble beginnings of our weird little project, all the way through today, as we stand on the brink of this huge moment for the game, and to us."
You can see some pictures of the in-progress additions to the game in the gallery below.
Last year's professional fighting game EA Sports UFC, released only for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, is expanding to new platforms. Electronic Arts on Tuesday released a mobile version of the game for iOS and Android phones and tablets. The free game is available now on iTunes and Google Play.
EA Sports UFC for mobile was developed by EA Canada in partnership with the team that developed the EA Sports UFC console version. The mobile version makes use of the console edition's codebase to offer "HD-quality visuals," Electronic Arts said today in a press release.
The mobile version also features touch controls to kick, punch, and dodge, as well as a ranking system and in-game rewards in the form of unlockable new fighters, among other things. It features a total roster of more than 70 fighters across four divisions, including Jon Jones and Georges-St-Pierre, among others.
EA Sports UFC for mobile saw a soft-release in Canada, South Korea, Singapore, and Russia two months ago. Since then, the game has seen more than two million downloads. EA also reports that players in those markets have played for an average of 36 minutes per day.
In a statement, EA Sports general manager Dean Richards said he thinks EA Sports UFC will "set a new bar for mobile and tablet fighting games" thanks to its impressive visuals and gameplay. You can decide for yourself by watching the gameplay video above.
UFC president Dana White added: "Not only are we going to reach a broader fan base, but we're making the sport accessible on a global platform."

Whereas recent Adventure Time games like Explore the Dungeon Because I DON'T KNOW (2013) and Secret of the Nameless Kingdom (2014) were played from a top-down perspective, Finn and Jake Investigations is a fully 3D game that promises action, a variety of locations to explore, and "mind-bending" puzzles. This should all come together to make you feel "as if [you] have stepped into [your] own personal episode of Adventure Time," Little Orbit writes in a press release.
In terms of story, Finn and Jake Investigations will see players traveling to the mysterious "Land of Ooo" as they interrogate its "colorful inhabitants." Their investigative interest isn't totally random, however, as Finn's foster parents were professional investigators, according to Adventure Time fiction.
Little Orbit CEO Matt Scott said in a statement that the publisher had received "a lot" of feedback from fans about wanting a new Adventure Time game for the current generation of consoles in 3D.
"This new game is a complete departure from previous Adventure Time games," he said. "We have created an intriguing classic adventure game set in a richly-detailed 3D Land of Ooo where players can check out Land of Ooo locales, talk to characters, sharpen their creative puzzle-solving skills, defeat bad guys, and just have fun."
More details about Finn and Jake Investigations will be announced in the weeks and months ahead. For now, you check out some screenshots in the gallery at the bottom of this post.
The second DLC expansion for Destiny, House of Wolves, will allow players to reach at least light level 34, a fact revealed by a new teaser trailer.
The video, which you can watch below, briefly highlights the additions House of Wolves brings with it: a new social space, new characters, and new gear upgrades. We get a glimpse of each of these things, and it's during that last section that we get a brief look at the character screen, showing a character whose light level is 34.
Following the release of The Dark Below expansion, the cap for light level--the system for leveling up beyond the standard level cap of 20--was bumped up from 30 to 32.
Bungie has yet to formally announce another increase to the light level cap, though it's been presumed for some time that it would be going up with the next expansion. Then again, many assumed House of Wolves would include a new raid, which it will not.
We don't know for sure that 34 is the new maximum--it's possible it could go even higher--but we don't have long to wait before finding out. Bungie has a livestream set to take place tomorrow, April 22, where it'll be talking about "the upgrade paths for your gear." It also has plans to reveal more in the weeks to come, with House of Wolves set to launch on May 19.
As the real-world NBA playoffs roll on, Microsoft has announced a new, Steam-style free weekend event for NBA 2K15, the latest professional basketball game from 2K Sports.
All Xbox Live Gold members can download and play NBA 2K15 for free starting at 12 PM PDT / 3 PM EDT on Friday, April 24. The free play weekend ends at 12:01 AM PDT / 3:01 AM EDT on Monday, April 27.
Microsoft explains in a post on the Xbox Wire that the version of NBA 2K15 available to play for free this weekend is the full game, and notes that progress will carry forward should you decide to buy it. Microsoft is also offering all virtual currency for NBA 2K15 on Xbox One at 33 percent off all weekend long.
Whether or not you buy NBA 2K15, however, you'll get to keep any achievements you unlock during the weekend.
This isn't the first free play weekend event Microsoft has held on Xbox One. Previously, Microsoft has allowed subscribers to play Forza Motorsport 5 and Sunset Overdrive free for a limited time. These types of free play weekends are commonplace on Valve's PC Steam platform, but are still somewhat rare on console.
If you'd rather play EA Sports' latest NBA offering--NBA Live 15--that game is also free to play on Xbox One, but you'll need an EA Access membership ($5/month) to get started.
Are you going to check out NBA 2K15 this weekend on Xbox One? Let us know in the comments below!
Despite a lack of official support for mods in the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V, mods continue to roll in, offering unlimited health, ammo, money, and so on. The latest one is less harmful to other players, as it introduces snow to GTA Online.
As demonstrated in the video below, modder ECB2's aptly titled "Snow in GTA Online" creation covers most everything in the world with snow. That includes the roads, cars, and at least some trees and bushes.
You can download the mod from various sites online, including here, but be warned: You're downloading files from unknown sources onto your computer, which always presents a risk. Additionally, it's unclear what Rockstar's response will be to players who use this--running any kind of modified code could get you banned, even if it's a seemingly harmless thing like this. As such, this might be a feature you're best off experiencing vicariously through the above video and the pair of screenshots below.
Snow isn't completely unheard of in GTA V; a few single-player levels, including the opening mission, take place in snow-covered areas. And, as for GTA Online, Rockstar has been known to enable snow--briefly--around Christmas.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's multiplayer mode, the new iteration of Metal Gear Online, supports a different number of players in the current-gen and last-gen versions of the game.
That's according to The Phantom Pain's Japanese website (via Videogamer), which lists the player count as 1-16 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, by contrast, will support a maximum of just 12 players.
It's unclear if there will be any other changes between the multiplayer mode on those systems, such as maps being shrunk to account for the number of players (like in Battlefield 3). Unlikely as that may be, we've contacted Konami to find out about any other differences across platform generations.
Konami announced in December that Metal Gear Online would be included as a free component of The Phantom Pain. It's not the first Metal Gear Solid game to include such a feature; Metal Gear Solid 4 also included a 16-player online mode called Metal Gear Online.
Journey's musical score, which was composed by Austin Wintory and was nominated for a Grammy Award two years ago, will be re-released on vinyl, production company iam8bit announced today.
The score will ship across two vinyl picture discs that are totally gorgeous, created by Mark Englert. Each side has unique art, meaning there are four different images to enjoy. What's more, the scarf of Journey's hero, the Traveler, wraps around the disc for a nice effect as it spins.
"If you pay close attention to the Traveler's robe, you'll notice that the embroidery becomes more ornate as you progress from side A to side D--just like each time you beat the game," writes iam8bit product licensing manager Noah Lane on the PlayStation Blog.
On the inside of the disc jacket you'll find the Journey soundtrack's full credits along with another special drawing from the game. Pre-orders for the $35 Journey vinyl soundtrack open this coming Thursday, April 23 at the iam8bit website.
In addition, iam8bit will release an ultra-rare 12" x 36" screen print depicting an extended version of the album cover art through its website starting April 23. This print (see it in the gallery below) will sell for $60. Only 350 will be available, and each comes numbered and signed by Englert.
Wintory was nominated for Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media for his work on Journey at the 55th Grammy Awards back in 2013. He ultimately lost out to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross that year for their composition of the music featured in the movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
