Target has one of the best PS4 deals to date going on right now. In addition to today's $50 price drop, it continues to offer a $50 gift card with the system.
It was a bit later than other retailers in bringing down the price following today's price cut, making it look as if it might not do so until this week's free gift card offer expired. But the store has now cut the price of the system, letting you pick up a PS4 bundle for $350 with a free $50 gift card.
Gauntlet: Slayer Edition, the recent remake of the arcade classic, is unlikely to receive any further updates, developer Arrowhead Game Studios has announced.
"While it has been great working with [publisher] Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the development phase and our time together is now drawing to a close and Arrowhead's involvement with the support of the game will come to an end," the studio said in a blog post. "This means we likely will not release any more patches for the game."
In other words, any nagging issues you wanted to see addressed or improvements you were hoping to see made are probably not coming. However, all PC players should now have access to the items previously available only as preorder bonuses.
With Arrowhead moving on, it's advising players to direct any support issues to Warner Bros. Some of its staff members will, however, continue to discuss the game with fans on its forums.
"We thank every single one of you for supporting us along this journey," Arrowhead said. "It has been an incredible experience to work on one of our childhood favorite games and so much fun remaking this classic. We can only hope that you have enjoyed playing as well, and will continue having fun with friends for a long time to come."
Gauntlet launched last year on PC, and was followed by the release of an enhanced version (Slayer Edition) on PS4 and PC this summer. Arrowhead also this year released Helldivers for PS4, PS3, and Vita. Its next game has yet to be announced, with the studio only referring to it as its "upcoming secret project."
Click through the gallery above to see pictures of the Scorpion, Mongoose, Gungoose, Rocket Warthog, and Gauss Warthog. Note that these are special variant versions of each vehicle that are obtainable through Halo 5's new Requisition (REQ) system.
In short, the REQ system is Halo 5's in-game rewards program. Complete objectives in the game's Arena or Warzone modes and you'll earn REQ points, which in turn allow you to spawn these vehicles (and others) at will during a Warzone match. For more on how the REQ system works, check out this detailed video, which is narrated by Nick Offerman for some reason.
Complete descriptions of each vehicle, written by 343, are available below.
Scorpion: The new iteration – the M820 – of the storied Scorpion is half the mass of the old M808 yet has nearly identical firepower and armor protection. As expected, ONI spares no expense with its "security" Scorpions, outfitting them with experimental ammunition using the latest energetic propellants. Advanced Scorpion with heavy armor and upgraded cannon.
Mongoose: Lovingly dubbed the "mothergoose" by frontline infantry men and women due to its increased size over the M274, this particular variant shown is Liang Dortmund's heavy-duty modification of the standard M290 ATV. The result is a nimble but rugged Mongoose with extra armor.
Gungoose: The new "Gungoose" is the result of an M290 Mongoose quad bike fitted with twin grenade launchers. A passenger can be accommodated on the rear-facing seat, providing ample offense on this snake-killer's nose and tail.
Rocket Warthog: Rocket Warthogs are often the first and last line of defense against Covenant aircraft for UNSC ground forces. This particular variant showcases an improved Rocket Warthog with upgraded armor.
Gauss Warthog: Tested in classified ops during the Requiem campaign, the UNSC has fitted a brand new evolution of the heavy gauss cannon on the M12B Warthog. For this particular ONI-spec variant, gauss cannon impacts produce lingering area of effect damage. The precise mechanism remains highly classified. Calling one of these bad boys in gives your team an advanced Gauss Warthog with heavy armor and upgraded gauss cannon.
Tripwire Interactive has offered a tease of the next map coming to Killing Floor 2, and it takes players into the "murky woods to find something."
It wasn't specified what that something is, but you can get a glimpse of what to expect from the new map--called Black Forest--in the screenshot above.
"With the last update we released updated mapping tools which included landscape tool support for better outdoor maps," Tripwire said in its latest development update. "We here at Tripwire have also been working on a new map that brings you to the outdoors."
Tripwire didn't offer a date for when the map will be released, though it did tease that it's continuing to ready expanded Steam Workshop support. Killing Floor 2 already offers Workshop support for individual items--you can download new weapon skins, cosmetic items and so on. But the plan is to allow modders to share maps and mutators through the Workshop, too.
The studio is also soliciting fans' opinions regarding what happens when aiming down the sights with the dual pistols added in the last update. You can see the two options here--one involves holding one gun in the center with the other off to the side, or raising them both so they're in the middle of the screen. If you prefer one or the other, you can share that with Tripwire here.
Killing Floor 2 remains in early access, where it's been since it launched earlier this year.
Fall is officially here, and September brought the first wave of big releases to our doorsteps, starting with the long-awaited Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Hideo Kojima's supposed swan song with Konami takes the series into open-world territory for the first time, and it serves as the missing piece in a saga that began almost thirty years ago. The newfound freedom on the battlefield was a huge success, paving the way for emergent gameplay that tied the world together and kept you on your toes.
Lucky for Konami, The Phantom Pain wasn't its only great game last month, with the acclaimed soccer sim PES 2016 shipping mid-September. Reviewer Rob Crossley praised its physics engine and artificial intelligence, calling PES 2016 "the best game in the series since the PlayStation 2 era." PES 16 is measured against EA Sports' FIFA 16, another annual update to a long-running and beloved soccer series. This year's FIFA was lauded for its new passing mechanics and other welcome tweaks that added strategic depth to the game's great foundations, introducing fresh skills for seasoned players to master.
Just ahead of Halloween, Frictional Games (developer of Amnesia: The Dark Descent) unleashed the surprising Soma, a chilling and thought-provoking horror game where shrieking spies haunt you in a dreadful and murky world. Soma provokes your fear of the unknown, but it also puts you into unsettling confrontations with puzzling creatures. Reviewer Richard Wakeling believes Soma "succeeds at crafting something much more meaningful in a genre that's deserving of more than just simple jump scares."
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Nintendo opened the minds of creative Wii U owners with the endearing and versatile Super Mario Maker. It's a level creation tool that puts you in control of elements from four classic Mario Bros games, and it lets you easily share your creations with other players around the world. The results so far have been impressive, with standout achievements cropping up shortly after the game's release. Super Mario Maker is a rewarding experience that's drawn people's attention back to the Wii U.
Soma's terrifying atmosphere and the great competition from both FIFA and PES are commendable, but Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was our near-unanimous choice for September's game of the month. Metal Gear Solid can be a divisive series due to its borderline-inaccessible plot, but The Phantom Pain captivated audiences both new and old alike. It tells an extraordinary story that intertwines real-world events from the 1980s with heaps of melodrama, fantastical characters, and an off-beat sense of humor. It puts you in the boots of a legendary soldier with a dark backstory and an army at his command. The Phantom Pain boasts a massive world that's been crafted with an incredible attention to detail, which is reflected in the interplay of numerous mechanics, the artificial intelligence, and the flexibility of the emergent gameplay moments that await you at every turn.
Crucially, the Phantom Pain is the Metal Gear series' missing link, and while not everyone is pleased by the way Kojima tied things together, he certainly managed to do what he does best: deliver a story that subverts expectations, redefining the truth and your understanding of the series at large. We gave The Phantom Pain a 10 in our review not because it's a perfect game--it isn't--but because it offers an essential experience that we think everyone should try.
Rising Tide, the first expansion for Civilization sci-fi spinoff Beyond Earth, is out today, and we've rounded up some of the first reviews for you to peruse.
Rising Tide's primary new feature involves the ability to settle cities on water tiles, where they can then be (slowly) moved. It also expands the diplomacy system, adds new traits for the various leaders, and introduces new biomes and units that attempt to provide that sci-fi feel that Beyond Earth lacked.
You can find a sampling of reviews below, and head over to GameSpot sister site Metacritic for even more.
Game: Civilization: Beyond Earth - Rising Tide
Developer: Firaxis Games
Platforms: PC, Mac
Release Date: October 9
Price: $30
GameSpot -- 9/10
"Rising Tide brings other content to Beyond Earth as well, from new factions to new planet types. But these additions pale in comparison to the systemic changes Firaxis has made. There are bothersome issues with the new diplomacy approach, and some of these mechanics are too obfuscated to call excellent. But Rising Tide encourages new ways of thinking, and lends character to a very impersonal subject. That old Civilization mantra still echoes, just like it used to: One more turn." - Mike Mahardy [Full review]
Rock, Paper, Shotgun
"The new aliens'n'ocean stuff is thoughtful and entertaining, pushing the sci-fi further and helping Beyond Earth take much-needed strides away from Civ V, building it at last into a game you have to figure out rather than just go through the motions with. It still comes up short on character compared to the best Civs and, of course, Alpha Centauri, but it's without doubt less anodyne than before. Diplomacy, however, seems to me like a significant misfire even without the bugs--the question of your place in this new world, and in relation to your rivals, remains unresolved. I suspect Beyond Earth's road to recovery has only just begun." - Alec Meer [Full review]
PC Gamer -- 73/100
"Rising Tide doesn't turn Beyond Earth into a whole new game. Expect that, and you'll be disappointed. It does however move it closer to what it should have been, with its understanding of some of the big problems helping to at least soften the blow of their lingering disappointment first time around. It's the expansion it needed to do first, both in terms of building on the game if you are in the mood for more, and showing that the series has the right course in mind." - Richard Cobbett [Full review]
IGN -- 7.1/10
"Rising Tide is a well-crafted expansion with some great ideas: the new diplomacy system is a marvel of strategy game design, and artifacts and hybrid affinities serve to reinvigorate the late game with new bonuses and tactics. But unfortunately, the biggest issue facing Beyond Earth is its lack of variation from game to game, and that remains unaddressed. After just a few games, I already feel like I've seen most of what it has to offer." - T.J. Hafer [Full review]
Shacknews
"When I first played Beyond Earth last year, I knew that the game had a lot of unrealized potential that a few expansions would fix, and Rising Tide certainly proves that. Sea colonies open up whole new strategies for expanding an empire. One that isn't restricted by mountains, deserts, or whatever other obstacles the alien landscape has to offer. You'll still have to defend against a host of sea monsters, but it's a risk worth taking. Even the new diplomacy system feels like stumbling step in the right direction. I wouldn't go so far as to say that Beyond Earth fully captures the feel of the Earthbound Civilization games yet, but Rising Tide makes for a far better game than the original." - Steven Wong [Full review]
PC World
"A few of my complaints from last year remain--the user interface could still use some beautification and the tech web is borderline impenetrable for first-time players. But Firaxis has made some smart choices with Rising Tide. It's starting to distinguish itself from Civilization V finally, and not just in terms of the way units look. Playing Rising Tide--especially on a water-heavy map--feels appreciably different from previous Civ games." - Hayden Dingman [Full review]
Game Informer -- 9/10
"Rising Tide is an overhauled look at the core experience, and it would be difficult to go back to Beyond Earth without the myriad enhancements the expansion offers. As with Civilization V before it, Beyond Earth looks like it's becoming all it can be as it evolves with these upgrades." - Daniel Tack [Full review]

Activision has published new live-action trailer for Guitar Hero Live starring real-world guitar hero Lenny Kravitz and actor James Franco. Directed by Tim and Eric and Portlandia's Jonathan Krisel, the humorous video is called "Win the Crowd" and it's meant to demonstrate how the crowd reacts to the way you play.
As we saw in the initial teaser, Franco makes a joke about Kravitz's leather pants wardrobe malfunction this summer, while Kravitz takes a few shots at Franco as well. According to Activision Publishing CMO Tim Ellis, some of the back-and-forth between the pair was "purely spontaneous."
You'll want to stick around to the end, as Franco screams "rock and roll" as he proceeds to smash the controller on the coffee table. Kravitz's response to this is a slow-cap, which seems about right.
Ark: Survival Evolved is getting a Halloween-themed update, developer Studio Wildcard has announced. The in-game event, called Ark: Fear Evolved, will bring a number of changes to the dinosaur-themed game, including shorter days and longer nights, while the moon will turn red. In addition, bats and other beasts will appear in the world. Players will also be able to carve pumpkins.
In addition, Studio Wildcard teases that "other nasty creatures" will show up with the Halloween update, including "powerful undead beasts." One of these is the totally-fake-but-awesome-sounding "Dodorex," which will come to the game alongside zombie Dodos who are out for blood. Kill these creatures and you'll earn "limited edition treats," though they were not named outright.
More details about Fear Evolved will be announced in the coming weeks, Studio Wildcard said. The update itself is scheduled to go live at the end of October and run for "about a week."
Some of the offers are listed below (click through the links to go to their Steam store pages), while a full rundown of deals is available on Steam's website.
A new technical analysis of the ongoing Star Wars Battlefront beta reveals that the PlayStation 4 edition runs at 900p while the Xbox One edition is 720p. Digital Foundry today posted its breakdown of the Xbox One version specifically, which outlines the game's performance on Microsoft's console.
"From an image quality perspective, the compromises are just as you'd expect; we see more aliased edges, and a higher level of shimmering on fine distant detail--particularly on Tatooine's flag-lines," the site said about the Xbox One version. "Added to that, there's a softening to the picture as a whole--a result of a more drastic upscale, combined with a similar grade of post-process anti-aliasing to PS4."
Digital Foundry goes on to say that texture and shadow quality are identical between both consoles, while the same is true for their use of tessellated geometry across the maps. "The Battlefront beta's three included maps give us some of the best-realized Star Wars locales in video game form, and both consoles get the goods in this sense."
Both the Xbox One and PS4 editions of Battlefront's beta experience similar levels of "pop-in," too, as it relates to the draw distances.
"Of course, Xbox One's resolution is a factor in this respect, particularly with map visibility across range," Digital Foundry said. "As with DICE's earlier titles on the console, 720p has an impact when picking out enemies across broad expanses of terrain--the Hoth map being the biggest example in this case. The rebel base interior area holds up well enough during shootouts, and it's fair to say DICE's anti-aliasing does a surprisingly thorough job of cleaning up a base 720p image.
"Unfortunately, this core pixel count isn't high enough to resolve details clearly across the map as a whole, and the anti-aliasing's attempts to clean the image has the side effect adding a noticeable blur to the distance. In effect, this especially dulls the spectacle of this mission's final third, bringing us to a long spread of trenches--and from an AT-AT's top-down perspective, Xbox One's resolution starts to obscure the great art design DICE puts into this scene."
In terms of frames per second, both console versions target 60fps. However, Digital Foundry claims the Xbox One version more regularly drops below 50fps during intensive scenes.
"It's fair to say PS4's beta is in the healthier shape," the site said. "With a clearer image and the better average frame rate of the two consoles, the strong suggestion right now is that the PS4 version is the one to gun for on launch."
PC performance, meanwhile, will vary depending on your setup. You can see the game's minimum and recommended PC specifications here. This technical assessment, of course, is based on the game's current in-development status. Final performance--for both consoles--could be better at launch.
The Battlefront beta started on October 8 and runs through October 12. It's free and open to everyone across Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The full game, meanwhile, launches on November 17.
Everyone who plays Destiny between now and December will receive a bonus payout of the game's new currency, Silver, developer Bungie has announced.
As part of the latest Bungie Weekly Update, the developer reiterated that everyone is getting some free Silver when microtransactions come to Destiny on October 13. However, the studio also teased, "If you appear in the game between now and December, you'll get even more Silver. Thanks for playing."
Silver is Destiny's new microtransaction currency that players can spend in the game's new Eververse Trading Company in-game store. When the store opens on October 13, players can spend Silver to buy more than a dozen emotes. It remains to be seen if Bungie will ever offer anything more than emotes.
Bungie has not yet announced Silver pricing details, but that information should come soon. Whatever the case, expectations are high, as one analyst believes Destiny's microtransactions could generate "hundreds of millions" in revenue per year.
Olivia Jackson, the stunt performer who was seriously injured on the South African set of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, is on the road to recovery. Jackson, who was acting as stunt double to star Milla Jovovich, was placed into an induced coma last month after colliding with a camera crane while performing a motorcycle stunt. But now she has posted a message of Facebook, detailing the horrific extent of her injuries, but assuring friends and family that she was beginning to heal.
The post, released by a friend through the Life Is Savage website, reads:
2 weeks in a coma, brain bleed, brain swelling, severed main artery in the neck, crushed & degloved face, several broken ribs, paralyzed arm, shattered scapula, broken clavicle, broken humerus, broken radius & ulna, with an open wound and a 7.5 piece of bone missing, amputated thumb, torn fingers, 5 nerves torn out of the spinal cord.... not my funnest day on set."
Jackson finishes her post by saying: "Thanks to everyone for their prayers and beautiful messages. I'm sure it's all helped pull me through this difficult time. Long road to recovery but just gonna take it day by day."
The sixth part of the Resident Evil movie series is scheduled for a January 2017 release, with Jovovich and director Paul WS Anderson returning to the zombie action franchise one last time. Earlier this week, on-set pictures were released of the cast and crew at work.
The previous Resident Evil film, 2012's Retribution, grossed $240 million worldwide, and the series has to date made more than $915 million globally.
Actor and comedian Joel McHale is really excited for Halo 5: Guardians, so much so that he recently jokingly said he plans to abandon his children when the game comes out. On Wednesday's episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers, the host asked McHale if he was amped for Halo 5. He responded in the affirmative. "I don't love my kids anymore," McHale says. Watch the full video below.
McHale says he thought his life was complete with 2012's Halo 4, but admitted Halo 5 is sucking him back in with its galaxy-changing story that pits Master Chief against Spartan Locke.
With just about a month to go before its release, Microsoft announced today that the music for Rise of the Tomb Raider was composed by Game of Thrones, Iron Man, and Despicable Me's Bobby Tahouri.
"It's been an honor working on such a storied franchise,," Tahouri said. "Lara is someone who embodies an indomitable spirit, and crafting music to accompany her on her journey has been a fantastic experience."
In addition, Crystal Dynamics confirmed that Rise of the Tomb Raider will support "procedurally generated music" during stealth encounters. This is made possible through a "middleware system" licensed by Intelligent Music Systems. "This system analyzes Tahouri's compositions and dynamically composes new music, making every play-through unique," the developer explained. That sounds pretty cool.
You can listen to a preview of Tahouri's Rise of the Tomb Raider soundtrack below. The game launches on November 10 for Xbox One and Xbox 360, and presumably you will also be able to buy the soundtrack.
The Halo 5: Guardians custom paint jobs for next weekend's NASCAR event have been revealed. As announced previously, Dale Earnhardt Jr. will drive the #88 Master Chief car, while Jamie McMurray's #1 car will be decked out with Spartan Locke designs for Oct. 18's Hollywood Casino 400 in Kansas City.
Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens will receive its world premiere on December 14, it has been revealed. The hugely anticipated sci-fi blockbuster--the first new Star Wars film for a decade--will premiere first in Los Angeles, before screening at other events across the world.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, London will host the European premiere soon after the LA showing. It has not been confirmed in which cinemas the premieres will be held.
The Force Awakens is directed by JJ Abrams, and will be released on December 16 in France and December 17 in the UK, before rolling out across the US on December 18.
This week, John Boyega, the film's 23-year-old star, spoke to the Daily Mail about the moment that Abrams told him he had the part. "I learned that I got the part over a nice breakfast in Mayfair," he said. "JJ said, 'John, you're the new star of Star Wars,' and everything froze for a moment.'"
The film also stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill.
The PlayStation 4 has a "huge lead" over the Xbox One, according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, an advantage that is so large right now that he's unsure if Microsoft's console can ever catch up.
Spencer's candid comments came during a panel at the 2015 GeekWire Summit. As reported by Videogamer, when Spencer was asked if he thought the Xbox One could outsell the PS4 this generation, he replied, "You know, I don't know. You know, the length of the generation... They [Sony] have a huge lead and they have a good product. I love the content, the games lineup that we have."
The Head of Xbox went on to say that the situation surrounding the Xbox One's launch, marked by dramatic policy reversals and controversial comments from executives who have since left the company, had a negative effect on the platform's ability to have a strong start. In fact, Spencer admitted that Microsoft "fundamentally lost... the trust of our most loyal customers" at this time.
"Whether it's always-on, used games, whatever the feature was, we lost the trust in them that they were at the center of our decision-making process," he said. "Were we building a product for us, or were we building a product for the gamers? And as soon as that question came into people's minds and they looked at anything, whether it was the power of our box, our launch lineup, microtransactions, any of the features that you talked about, what you find is very quickly you lose the benefit of the doubt. You lose your customer's assumption that the reason you're building your product is to delight them and not just build a better and more maybe manipulative product.
"I sit back and I think about an [organization] of thousands of people, you're down in the organization and some words and some actions from executives kinda just trash all the work that you've done over the last three years, many weekends and nights, and you start to question why am I doing this?" he added. "Why am I working so hard when a few crass comments can actually position our product more directly than any work that the team was doing?"
Spencer was promoted to Head of Xbox in March 2014 and at that time, he said "job number one" was to attempt to regain the confidence of the Xbox team by way of being "very forthright" with them. He says he's already seeing a change in the team for the better. Instead of a team "that's questioning the leadership of the organization," he now sees a team "that's motivated by the customers that we have and their ability to delight them."
Spencer added: "I see a team that's making amazing progress. [Backwards compatibility] was one. We didn't know back compat would work. We started it. A few ninja engineers went off and figured it out, how do you go from PowerPC to X86 and translate game code that's about as time-critical as any piece of code that you would want in terms of its performance, and they got it done. So I would never question the ability of our organization, but I'll say we're not motivated by beating Sony, we're motivated by gaining as many customers as we can."
Destiny's Companion App has reached a new milestone. In the latest Bungie Weekly Update, the developer announced that more than 7,777,777 people have now used the app, which lets you read announcements, track stats, and change your Guardians' gear. The free app is available on mobile devices and PC.
Destiny player pitbread10 was the 7,777,777th user of the Destiny Companion app.
"Welcome to the party, pal," Bungie wrote. "Please imagine horns celebrating your arrival and confetti raining down from a fireworks display in your honor."
The number 7 is special to Bungie. It is referenced often in the studio's games, while Bungie holds some kind of celebration every year on July 7, the seventh day of the seventh month. Bungie also has a seven-step plan to take over the world.
This is a particularly noteworthy achievement, given that Ark is not even a finished game. It remains an Steam Early Access game for PC, with the full version not expected to launch until summer 2016.
The game sells for $30 on Steam, meaning it has generated as much as $60 million in revenue, though the game has been discounted through sales, such as the one going on right now on Steam.
In North America, you can now buy a PlayStation 4 starting at $350. The $50 price cut was announced yesterday and goes into effect today at retailers across the United States and Canada. With the price cut, the PS4 is now offered at the same starting price as the Xbox One going into the holiday season.
Today, October 9, also marks the release of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, a PS4 game that Sony believes can be a system-seller. The game also has its own PS4 bundle, which is marked down to $350 starting today. Check out the image below for a complete breakdown of bundles and pricing.
As of June 30, Sony had shipped more than 25.3 million PS4 consoles around the world. Sony is expected to announce a new figure on October 29 when the company reports earnings for the latest quarter.
Are you going to pick up a PS4 now that its price has been lowered? Let us know in the comments below.
With all the talk about Warner and DC's big superhero movies--Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeandWonder Woman--one title that has remained quiet for a while is Justice League Dark. Earlier this year, it was reported that Pacific Rim's Guillermo del Toro had left the adaptation. However, a new report suggests that the project is still very much a priority for the studio.
The Tracking Board have reported that the film is moving ahead with veteran producer Scott Rudin in charge. Their sources state that Rudin is hoping to start shooting in 2016.
Justice League Dark is a superhero team which comprises more supernatural members of the DC Universe, such as John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Swamp Thing, and Deadman. A movie version was first rumoured in late 2012, then confirmed by writer/director del Toro in 2013.
In April this year, del Toro explained that he had submitted a script to Warner, and told IGN that the film would indeed form part of DC's Movie Universe. In June, The Hollywood Reporter stated that the director was no longer attached to the project, although The Tracking Board suggests that he will still be on board as a producer.
In June, Warner moved some of its more adult-themed DC and Vertigo properties over to subsidiary company New Line Cinema. Neil Gaiman's Sandman is under development there, while Vertigo's Preacher will appear as an AMC TV show in 2016.
EA is bringing more servers online to cope with increasing demand for the Star Wars Battlefront beta on PC.
Posting on Twitter, the publisher said it was receiving "a lot of interest around the beta" and "appreciate the patience" players are showing as it adds more servers to accommodate the traffic.
The Star Wars Battlefront beta is now live across all three platforms and open to everyone. You can download it now through the links here: Xbox One, PS4, PC. The beta is scheduled to end on October 12.
Battlefront's beta features a Survival Mission, along with the 40-player Walker Assault mode, and the King of the Hill-like Drop Zone mode. The Battlefront companion experience is also available now on the game's website and, by using this, players can earn items for the main game.
The Star Wars Battlefront release date has been confirmed as November 17, a month before Disney's Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hits theaters in December. EA is also releasing tie-in DLC for Battlefront based on the movie.
EA Access members on Xbox One can play Battlefront first, as it will be available through the subscription program a five days early.
Following the leak on October 7, Capcom has officially announced Laura for Street Fighter V, releasing a high-quality gameplay video of the character in action, as well as selection of screenshots.
Laura Matsuda is a Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu user and heir to the famed Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu fighting style. Like Ryu, she's searching the world for strong opponents to defeat and spread the legend of the Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu style.
Described as the first grappler in Street Fighter history to have a projectile, Laura is designed for those that enjoy getting up close and personal and using command grabs and quick moves to play mind games.
Her V-Skill is called Linear Movement and, by holding either back or forward when pressing the medium punch and kick buttons, she moves in the corresponding direction, allowing her to quickly get in and out. If no direction is held she'll perform an overhead kick.
Laura's V-Trigger is Spark Show, during which she enters an electrified state that allows her Thunder Clap projectile to travel further, and for her attacks to deal more stun.
In other recent Street Fighter V news, Capcom has announced that the game's next beta will begin later this month. This second beta will support cross-platform play between PlayStation 4 and PC.
Teasers for the latest Marvel/Netflix collaboration, Jessica Jones, are coming thick and fast. Earlier this week, this clip was posted, and now another new look at the show has been released. Watch it here:
This new clip is the first to provide a proper look at Krysten Ritter in her role as the superhero-turned-private detective. Yacht Club Games has announced the boxed version of Shovel Knight for Xbox One has been cancelled due to "publishing policies on the [Xbox One] that are beyond our control."
"We'll keep fighting to get a retail version on Xbox One," it continued. "But as of now, the boxed version is in indefinite limbo. The digital version of Shovel Knight on Xbox One is already available and, of course, will continue to receive new updates and our full support."
Shovel Knight will be available at retail stores from November 3 in North American and October 30 in Europe. The PS4, Wii U,3DS, and--exclusively in Europe--PC release will include the original game and the Plague of Shadows expansion and a digital version of the soundtrack.
Additional updates planned for the game, including Battle mode, the Specter Knight's campaign, King Knight's campaign, and more, will also be available when they're released.
Although Yacht Club originally said the game would cost $19.99 at retail, the price has increased to $24.99.
"Although everyone initially agreed to a $19.99 price point, some retailers ran into trouble with limited space to show off their wares, and the rules in place about where games with certain prices are displayed," the studio explained. "We didn't want our 'bargain priced' game to go straight to the bargain bin of obscurity, so we had to raise the price.
"We didn't want anyone to feel as if they were getting hoodwinked just because of our retail situation! If you have already pre-ordered Shovel Knight, your retailer should honour the original price!"
Finally, Yacht Club addressed those asking for a physical release for the Vita version, saying it is "working our hardest to make it possible," but not committing to a release date.
"While we can confirm one won't be shipping this holiday, we are still working our hardest to make it possible! Hang in there a bit longer, and hopefully we can make something happen!'
GameSpot's Shovel Knight review awarded the game a 7/10, saying its "inherent charms are timeless."
The review continues: "Shovel Knight is a good reminder that game design does age but can never die and that simple mechanics can still be immensely satisfying. But this is not another classic."
Sci-fi shooter Destiny will be getting a patch soon that nerfs Shotguns, Bungie has announced in its latest weekly update. The upcoming Update 2.0.1 will remove the Shot Package perk from all shotguns, making shotguns less lethal and thus less likely to kill another player in a single shot.
Any shotgun which had the Shot Package perk will instead have close and/or Personal, Crowd Control, or Knee Pads. Bungie stated that it hoped to reintroduce the perk again eventually, after tweaking it for balance purchases.
The Star Wars Battlefrontbeta is available now across all platforms, and even the WWE's star wrestlers are getting in on the hype. In the video below, Stardust (aka "The Prince of Dark Matter") joins Austin Creed to play through a few rounds of the demo.
Stardust stays in character for the entire bit, and he proves that he's a Star Wars superfan by dropping some obscure trivia (e.g. Ewoks are never called "Ewoks" in Return of the Jedi, only in the credits). He also references the best way to watch the full series: Machete order.
The Xbox One version of Neverwinter gets its next expansion in November, Perfect World announced today.
Strongholds is the game's seventh expansion, and was first released on PC back in August. When it arrives on November 3 for Xbox One, it'll do away with the waiting that PC players had to do; all of its features will immediately be available.
Strongholds adds the game's "largest in-game map" to date, which is home to a new competitive multiplayer mode called Stronghold Siege. It's essentially a large-scale MOBA--two teams of 20 fight across three lanes as they attempt to reach and destroy the enemy's guild hall. You can get a feel for this in the video above.
Before taking part in this, guilds will establish their own strongholds, erecting buildings that will provide assistance in Siege, help gather resources, or serve other purposes. These can be built up over time, and can enhance both individual characters and the guild as a whole.
Neverwinter originally launched on PC back in 2013 and was followed by the Xbox One version in March 2015. Since then, it's been catching up with updates, though the console versions of new updates tend to lag behind their PC counterparts.
