PS4 Sale: PSN Game Deals From Now Until Jan. 16

By Anonymous on Jan 11, 2018 12:18 am

A handful of new deals are now available in the US PlayStation Store. This week's selection of discounts is very slim, but PS4, PS3, and Vita owners can still take advantage of some deals that are available as part of PSN's ongoing holiday sale, which concludes next week.

As is often the case, those with a PS Plus subscription can take an additional percentage off many of the discounts available now in the PlayStation Store. On PS4, players can find Thimbleweed Park for $12 ($14 without PS Plus) and Valkyria Chronicles Remastered for $15 ($18). You can also still get Dark Souls III for $21 ($30), Hitman: Game of the Year Edition for $36 ($42), Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 for $24 ($30), Tekken 7 for $30 ($36), Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth for $30 ($36), and Yooka-Laylee for $13.59 ($20).

PS3 owners, meanwhile, can pick up Atlus's surreal puzzle/dating game Catherine--which is being re-released with new content for PS4 and Vita--for $4 ($6), Yakuza 5 for $20 ($24), Drakengard 3 for $7.49 ($9), and Prototype for $8 ($10). On Vita, Adventures of Mana is $5 ($6), Flower is $2.44 ($3.14), Resogun is $3 ($4.49), and PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate is $3 ($4.49).

You can find the full list of games on sale right now on the PlayStation Store site; some of the above deals were highlighted by Twitter user Wario64. Most of these discounts will only be available until January 16, giving you only a few more days to take advantage of any that may interest you.

Total War: Three Kingdoms Revealed As The Franchise's New Historical Game

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 11:24 pm

While Total War fans may have worried that developer Creative Assembly had gotten side-tracked by fantastical games like its Warhammer series, it promised last year that a new historical game was in the works. The studio has now finally revealed the next history-based strategy game in the series, and it takes players to China 2000 years ago.

Total War: Three Kingdoms is set in China in the year 190 CE. Details are still scant, and we don't know what changes or additions it makes to the established series formula. However, Creative Assembly and publisher Sega have released a cinematic announcement trailer, which serves to establish what kind of state the nation was in at the time.

The official description states, "China is in turmoil. The Han Dynasty crumbles before the child-emperor. He is but a figurehead; a mere puppet for the tyrant warlord Dong Zhuo. It is a brutal and oppressive regime, and as Dong Zhuo's power grows, the empire slips further into the cauldron of anarchy. But hope yet blossoms.

"Three heroes, sworn to brotherhood in the face of tyranny, rally support for the trials ahead. Sensing opportunity, warlords from China's great families follow suit, forming a fragile coalition in a bid to challenge Dong Zhuo's remorseless rule. Will they triumph against the tyrant, or will personal ambition shatter their already crumbling alliance and drive them to supremacy? The crucible fizzes. Allegiances shift. The fires of conflict stoke opportunity. Only one thing is certain: the very future of China will be shaped by its champions."

Three Kingdoms releases for PC sometime this fall. We'll report back as more details are shared.

DC Films: How Much Money Did They Make At The Box Office?

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 10:59 pm

DC started their films off strong back in the late '70s; however, the way comics and films work has all changed. Everyone wants to have their own cinematic universe, and DC is slowly working on putting it all together.

While the company's film universe is new, its role in Hollywood is not. It's had some huge hits and misses since 1978, when Superman released. Some of these films set box office records while others were buried and forgotten. We thought it would be fun to take a look at how much money DC's films made in theaters, from worst to best, with adjustment for inflation.

Box office numbers and information came from IMDb and Box Office Mojo.

UPDATE: Justice League's numbers updated.

Steel (1997)

You probably don't remember Steel, starring Shaquille O'Neal. There's a reason for that. It's a terrible movie.

US: $1,686,429 (Adjusted for Inflation: $2,532,669)

Steel was only released domestically.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)

Although Mask of the Phantasm didn't make a ton of money compared to the rest of the films on the list, it's the only DC animated film to release in theaters (Killing Joke was a one-night event), and it was well-received for its time.

US: $5,588,699 (Adjusted for Inflation: $9,322,414)

Released theatrically in US and Brazil. Numbers for Brazil not available.

Jonah Hex (2010)

Jonah Hex is a pretty fantastic, grounded western property that was turned into a supernatural mess. It had a great cast and all the potential in the world, but the story was extremely rough.

US: $10,539,414 (Adjusted for Inflation: $11,650,214)

Worldwide total: $10,895,609 (Adjusted for Inflation: $12,043,951)

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)

No one wanted to see Superman throw the world's nuclear weapons into the sun. They wanted to see him punch somebody.

US: $15,681,020 (Adjusted for Inflation: $31,950,310)

Superman IV was only released domestically.

Supergirl (1984)

Many people forget that after Superman III, Supergirl got her shot at the big screen.

US: $14,296,438 (Adjusted for Inflation: $33,166,360)

Supergirl was only released domestically.

Catwoman (2004)

Catwoman is a film that took the source material and threw it out the window, hoping to rely on Halle Berry's name to put butts in seats. It did not do so.

US: $40,202,379 (Adjusted for Inflation: $51,298,576)

Worldwide total: $82,102,379 (Adjusted for Inflation: $104,763,331)

Superman III (1983)

After the awesomeness that was Superman II, someone decided to make the third film in the franchise a buddy comedy, featuring comedian Richard Pryor.

US: $56,950,623 (Adjusted for Inflation: $137,823,938.42)

Superman III was only released domestically.

Watchmen (2009)

Watchmen was the start of director Zack Snyder working for DC Entertainment. The film was ambitious and visually stunning, but it left a sour taste in some people's mouths.

US: $107,509,799 (Adjusted for Inflation: $120,790,105)

Worldwide total: $185,258,983 (Adjusted for Inflation: $208,143,372)

Green Lantern (2011)

Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, Blade: Trinity) took on the role of Hal Jordan, space cop. It was panned by both critics and fans. At least Reynolds has a good sense of humor about it.

US: $116,601,172 (Adjusted for Inflation: $124,946,377)

Worldwide total: $219,851,172 (Adjusted for Inflation: $235,586,033)

Superman II (1980)

Superman II did well in the theaters, but we're not quite sure why this wasn't released internationally.

US: $101,347,629 (Adjusted for Inflation: $296,463,953)

Superman II was only released domestically.

The Lego Batman Movie (2017)

It may not be part of the DC Cinematic Universe, but The Lego Batman Movie appeals to fans both young and old.

US: $174,932,902

Worldwide: $310,032,902

Batman & Robin (1997)

If there's one thing Batman & Robin did well, it was to have Arnold Schwarzenegger only speak in ice puns. In fact, that's the only thing it did well.

US: $107,285,004 (Adjusted for Inflation: $161,120,017)

Worldwide total: $238,207,122 (Adjusted for Inflation: $357,738,120)

Batman Begins (2005)

After Batman & Robin, some folks were a little skeptical of Christopher Nolan's Batman origin story and reluctant to go to the theater. They shouldn't have been.

US: $206,852,432 (Adjusted for Inflation: $255,295,937)

Worldwide total: $374,218,673 (Adjusted for Inflation: $461,858,271)

Superman Returns (2006)

The fifth movie in the original Superman series, 19 years after Superman IV, had a good showing.

US: $200,069,408 (Adjusted for Inflation: $239,207,985)

Worldwide total: $391,081,192 (Adjusted for Inflation: $467,586,450)

Batman Returns (1992)

Tim Burton's second Batman film didn't do as well as the original, but that's probably because they didn't get Prince to do the soundtrack again.

US: $162,744,850 (Adjusted for Inflation: $279,598,668)

Worldwide total: $282,800,000 (Adjusted for Inflation: $485,855,640)

Batman Forever (1995)

Surprisingly, Batman Forever did better than Batman Returns, probably because heavy hitters--for the time--Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones joined the cast.

US: $183,997,904 (Adjusted for Inflation: $291,013,692)

Worldwide total: $336,531,112 (Adjusted for Inflation: $532,262,376)

Justice League (2017)

Justice League stumbled during it's opening weekend. It didn't even bring in $100 million domestically.

US: $227,077,683

Worldwide total: $652,877,683 (As of 1/10/18)

Man of Steel (2013)

Man of Steel kicked off DC's cinematic universe and polarized audiences and fans as Zack Snyder gave the world a much darker Superman than they were expecting.

US: $291,045,518 (Adjusted for Inflation: $301,141,539)

Worldwide total: $668,045,518 (Adjusted for Inflation: $691,219,218)

Suicide Squad (2016)

The third film in DC's cinematic universe may have been panned by critics, but it continues to bring in money.

US: $325,021,779

Worldwide total: $745,173,191

Batman (1989)

Batman wowed audiences with Tim Burton's dark, quirky style and an awesome soundtrack by Prince.

US: $251,188,924 (Adjusted for Inflation: $488,274,805)

Worldwide total: $411,348,924 (Adjusted for Inflation: $799,602,596)

Wonder Woman (2017)

Wonder Woman had a great opening weekend, making over $100 million domestically. The movie tells the story of Diana (Gal Gadot) leaving her home to battle evil during World War I.

US: $412,550,942

Worldwide total: $821,750,942

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

While comic fans and some moviegoers had a problem with the tone and story, people across the world went to the theater to see Batman fight Superman.

US: $330,249,062

Worldwide total: $872,662,631

Superman (1978)

Superman was the first to break the $1 billion mark, when adjusted for inflation. It introduced the world to Christopher Reeves as the Man of Steel.

US: $40,925,251 (Adjusted for Inflation: $151,296,635)

Worldwide total: $300,218,018 (Adjusted for Inflation: $1,109,876,543)

The Dark Knight (2008)

One of the best comic book films to date, featuring a stellar performance from the late Heath Ledger, broke the $1 billion mark in 2008.

US: $534,858,444 (Adjusted for Inflation: $598,789,657)

Worldwide total: $1,004,558,444 (Adjusted for Inflation: $1,124,632,532)

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

The top-grossing DC film wasn't even one of their best. Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie beat out his previous film by $10 million.

US: $448,139,099 (Adjusted for Inflation: $470,476,371)

Worldwide total: $1,084,939,099 (Adjusted for Inflation: $1,139,017,354)

Star Wars: How Much Money Did Each Movie Make?

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 10:57 pm

Since A New Hope debuted in 1977, Star Wars has been a box office juggernaut, and it just keeps on coming. With Star Wars: The Last Jedi releasing soon, as well as a Han Solo movie coming six months later, we thought it would be a good idea to see just how well these movies have done in the theaters.

Using data from Box Office Mojo, we've ranked every Star Wars movie that had a theatrical release by its box office. In addition, movies older than 10 years had their numbers adjusted for inflation accordingly.

If you want some more Star Wars goodness, check out the latest TV spot for The Last Jedi. You may have heard, but there's a live-action Star Wars series coming as well as a whole new trilogy from Rian Johnson. We got so excited that we came up with a few solo films we'd like to see.

[Update: The Last Jedi's numbers updated]

10. The Clones Wars (2008)

The animated feature served as a lead-in to the animated series of the same name: The Clone Wars. While it had a large theatrical release, it didn't make a lot of money. This is probably because this movie is nothing more than a pilot for an excellent TV series, but not a great stand-alone entity.

Domestic: $35,161,554

Foreign: $33,121,290

Total: $68,282,844

9. Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002)

Say what you want about the prequels--more bad than good obviously--but even the movie that made the lowest amount in the theaters, still came pretty close to the $1 billion mark. People went in droves to the theater to see Anakin Skywalker sulk.

Domestic: $310,676,740 [Adjusted For Inflation: $426,241,924]

Foreign: $338,721,588 [Adjusted For Inflation:$464,718,863]

Total: $649,398,328 [Adjusted For Inflation: $890,960,788]

8. Rogue One: A Story Wars Story (2016)

You know you have a successful franchise when your film has all-new characters and a brand-new story, and it still breaks $1 billion, even though it's one of the darkest Star Wars films to date.

Domestic: $532,177,324

Foreign: $523,879,949

Total: $1,056,057,273

7. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005)

The final act in the prequel trilogy gave us the birth of Darth Vader, which is probably the reason it did a bit better than Episode II.

Domestic: $380,270,577 [Adjusted For Inflation: $480,583,735]

Foreign: $468,484,191 [Adjusted For Inflation:$592,067,585]

Total: $848,754,768 [Adjusted For Inflation: $1,072,651,321]

6. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983)

The final act in the original Star Wars trilogy brought in the least amount of money out of that lot, even though it had three separate theatrical releases.

Domestic: $309,306,177 [Adjusted For Inflation: $721,663,860]

Foreign: $165,800,000 [Adjusted For Inflation:$410,869,379]

Total: $475,106,177 [Adjusted For Inflation: $1,132,533,239]

Note: Return of the Jedi got three theatrical releases: 1983, 1985, and 1997.

5. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)

The Last Jedi had the second largest opening of all time, bringing in $220 million domestically. Look for these numbers to explode in the upcoming weeks because of the holidays and the fact the film opens in China on January 5.

Domestic: $574,483,043

Foreign: $646,000,000

Total: $1,220,483,043 [As of 1/10/18]

4. Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)

In 1999, people were hungry for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and because of this, it brought in $1.5 billion at the box office. And during this time, people everywhere loathed the antics of Jar Jar Binks.

Domestic: $474,544,677 [Adjusted For Inflation: $682,116,537]

Foreign: $552,500,000 [Adjusted For Inflation:$818,532,397]

Total: $1,027,044,677 [Adjusted For Inflation: $1,500,648,934]

Note: The Phantom Menace had two theatrical releases: 1999 and 2012.

3. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Arguably one of--if not the--best movies in the franchise is Empire Strikes Back, and while it didn't pull in the same numbers as A New Hope, it did exceptionally well.

Domestic: $290,475,067 [Adjusted For Inflation: $765,135,253]

Foreign: $247,900,000 [Adjusted For Inflation:$742,553,763]

Total: $538,375,067 [Adjusted For Inflation: $1,507,689,016]

Note: Empire Strikes Back got three theatrical releases: 1980, 1982, and 1997.

2. Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)

People were pretty excited to have a new film in the Star Wars franchise--one that wasn't telling the origins of characters we already know and love. Because of this, The Force Awakens pulled in an incredible $2 billion during its theatrical run.

Domestic: $936,662,225

Foreign: $1,131,561,399

Total: $2,068,223,624

1. Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)

The original Star Wars took the world by storm. In 1977, people were lining up around the block to see it, and when adjusted for inflation, it pulled in $2.7 billion. It's doubtful another film will take the top spot.

Domestic: $460,998,007 [Adjusted For Inflation: $1,503,659,950]

Foreign: $314,400,000 [Adjusted For Inflation:$1,280,526,297]

Total: $775,398,007 [Adjusted For Inflation: $2,784,186,247]

Note: A New Hope got three theatrical releases: 1977, 1982, and 1997.

New Dragon Ball FighterZ Trailer Introduces The Deadly Assassin, Hit

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 10:08 pm

Bandai Namco continues to show off new characters from Dragon Ball FighterZ ahead of the game's launch this month. The publisher has shared a new trailer that showcases another recently revealed fighter in action, the stoic assassin Hit.

Like Goku Black, who was recently shown off in his own trailer, Hit is a major character from the ongoing Dragon Ball Super series and is one of the most feared fighters from Universe 6. His signature ability is the Time-Skip, which allows him to jump a fraction of a second ahead in time to get the jump on an opponent. As you can see in the trailer above, his moveset in Dragon Ball FighterZ emphasizes striking and lightning-fast movements.

Hit was first revealed alongside two another Dragon Ball Super characters: the aforementioned Goku Black and the God of Destruction, Beerus. Bandai Namco featured all three of the new characters in a recent Dragon Ball FighterZ trailer, which also gave us a look at some of the game's Dramatic Scenes and the Shenron System. We also got to go hands-on with Goku Black, Hit, and Beerus at a recent preview event.

Bandai Namco is holding another beta for Dragon Ball FighterZ this weekend. The beta runs from January 14-16 and is available to all PS4 and Xbox One players, but those who pre-order Dragon Ball FighterZ digitally from the PlayStation or Xbox Stores will get to access it a day early, on January 13. The beta features 11 playable characters, including Beerus, Kid Buu, adult Gohan, and Nappa. Players will also be able to witness two Dramatic Scenes during the beta.

Dragon Ball Super releases for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on January 26. Bandai Namco recently shared Dragon Ball FighterZ's minimum and recommended specs for those who plan to pick up the PC version. Everyone who pre-orders the title will unlock two characters early: Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta.

Best-Selling PS4 Games Of December 2017 On PSN In The US Revealed

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 09:31 pm

The holiday season is finally over, and now we can look back to see which games dominated the Christmas sales rush. Sony has released the charts for the top ten most-downloaded games across PS4, Vita, PlayStation VR, and add-on content, and the lists contain some notable surprises.

Coming in first place on PS4 (and shocking no one) is Call of Duty: WWII, which also happens to be the top-grossing game overall for the year. At second place is the delightful and ridiculous multiplayer game Gang Beasts, which finally launched in full last month. This means that Gang Beasts beat out Star Wars: Battlefront II, coming in at third place, and the perennially popular GTA V at fourth place. Another surprise is the physics-based puzzle game Human: Fall Flat, which ranked at ninth place. Check out the full list below.

On the PSVR list, meanwhile, Job Simulator came in first place, while PlayStation VR Worlds, Superhot VR, Accounting+, and Skyrim VR rounded out the top five. The Vita charts were topped by Metal Gear Solid 3 HD, while Destiny 2's first expansion, The Curse of Osiris, came in first place on the DLC charts. You can see the full lists for Vita, PSVR, add-on content, and PS1 Classics over on Sony's website.

Sony also recently revealed the top ten best-selling games of the whole year, and Call of Duty was, of course, number one. But with Friday the 13th at third place and Horizon: Zero Dawn at fourth, there are still some surprises on this list, too. Check out the full list of best-selling PS4 games here.

Twitch Reportedly Spent A Lot Of Money On Overwatch League Broadcasting Deal

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 09:30 pm

Twitch recently announced that it has secured exclusive broadcasting rights for the Overwatch League, and a new report asserts that the deal cost a pretty big sum of money. The streaming service apparently spent $90 million on getting broadcast exclusivity for the much-anticipated esports league over the next two seasons.

The number comes by way of Sports Business Daily, which also reported that this likely makes the deal the biggest in esports history. With the deal, Twitch becomes the exclusive third-party platform for viewing matches; half of this season will also air on MLG.tv, Overwatch publisher Activision-Blizzard's first-party streaming service.

The report also states that some of the $90 million may be for other agreements beyond just streaming rights. Twitch also announced that it would work with Activision to develop rewards and programs for fans, which is possibly covered under the $90 million deal.

Overwatch League is one of the most formalized esports leagues in existence. It features teams centered on cities rather than esports organizations, and some teams have connections to existing professional sports clubs. The first match goes live on January 10 at 4PM PST when the San Francisco Shock take on the Los Angeles Valiant, and these can be streamed on overwatchleague.com, Twitch's website, or at mlg.tv.

To celebrate the event's launch, an Overwatch update has added a bunch of new Overwatch skins. To learn more about Overwatch League, check out GameSpot's other coverage below:

Will Daniel Bryan Wrestle in WWE Again? Triple H Clarifies Company's Stance

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 09:18 pm

It was 2016 when Daniel Bryan retired as a professional wrestler in WWE due to injuries sustained in the ring--specifically concussions. Since then, Bryan has been very open about his speaking with multiple doctors specializing in brain injuries with hopes of one day competing for WWE again. Thus far, though, he's been unable to get cleared by the company's medical team.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour panel for the 25th anniversary of WWE Raw, Triple H, who serves as a WWE executive in real life, shed a little light on the situation and what it would take for the company to allow Bryan to compete. "There can be no exception, medically," he says. "If the belief is that he's not healthy enough and it is a risk for to perform, then I don't know why we would ever allow him to step in the ring unless it can be proven otherwise."

Triple H continues, "We have some of the best medical people in the world working for us. Our wellness policy, our concussion programs, out protocols--I'll put them up against any on the planet."

Thus, the company is standing by their own doctors, regardless of the specialists Bryan sees on his quest to wrestle again. "The medical experts will make the determination of whether Bryan can set foot in that ring or not," Triple H explains. "Personally, for him, I know it's something he loved doing and I hope he has that opportunity. But at the same point in time, he's married and has a child. We serve the human being first."

For his part, Bryan recently said in an interview that he would likely step away from his current role at Smackdown Live general manager once his contract expired, should he not be cleared to wrestle again. "When my [WWE] contract is up, I would wrestle elsewhere if WWE would not clear me," he admitted on Rosenberg Radio.

After 4 Years Of Silence, Cyberpunk 2077's Twitter Account Comes Alive To Say "Beep"

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 09:01 pm

Particularly in light of the success that The Witcher III: Wild Hunt has enjoyed, anticipation is high for the next project from developer CD Projekt Red. But news on the new game, Cyberpunk 2077, has been hard to come by in recent years, despite the fact that it was originally announced in 2012 and a teaser trailer (above) was released in early 2013. That makes any morsel of information big news, but the latest development on the Cyberpunk front may not even qualify for "morsel" status.

Cyberpunk's official Twitter account has been dark since December 5, 2013, when it shared a link regarding an award it won for that 2013 trailer. Today that all changed, with the account coming back to life for what surely had to be an important announcement, right? Not quite.

"Beep." That's it. Or, more accurately, "*beep*," with asterisks, as if to indicate this is merely the sound, and not even the word. Why? What is this purpose of this tweet? Is it a joke from a bored community manager? A sociological experiment? A warning that Skynet has come to life?

Presumably, this is merely meant to remind people about the game and to drum up interest before a proper re-reveal later this year. If that's the case, it's worked--in less than an hour, it's accumulated more than 2,000 retweets and 4,000 Likes on Twitter, and this undoubtedly won't be the only post you see online from a gaming publication about the tweet.

With development Witcher 3 and its DLC comfortably behind it, 2018 does seem like as good of a time as any for CD Projekt Red to formally unveil Cyberpunk 2077. (That was actually one of our recent predictions for 2018 in gaming.) Whether that proves to be the case remains to be seen, but it would be nice to think the company didn't dust off the cobwebs on its Twitter account just for the hell of it.

Microsoft Pulls Windows Update Meant To Fix Spectre/Meltdown Exploits For Some AMD Users

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 07:38 pm

The biggest news in cybersecurity last week was the discovery of the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities in modern computer processors. They affect virtually all computers in the world, and as a result of this severity, hardware companies have been scrambling to create and release updates that patch the holes. In its haste, however, it appears that Microsoft released a series of updates for Windows that could break AMD systems. Recently, the company was forced to remove these updates from some systems running AMD processors and graphics cards.

As reported by ComputerWorld, users had begun complaining of bricked computers last week. Some AMD users had run into blue screen errors, an inability to restart their computers, and other issues.

Earlier this week, after several days of complaints, Microsoft pulled the patches from some AMD systems and acknowledged that they had been causing issues. But Microsoft placed the blame squarely on AMD, stating on its website that "some AMD chipsets do not conform to the documentation previously provided to Microsoft to develop the Windows operating system mitigations to protect against the chipset vulnerabilities known as Spectre and Meltdown."

Pinhead Is Back In The Gore-Soaked Hellraiser Judgment Trailer

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 03:30 pm

While most hit horror movies have inspired multiple sequels over the years, few have made it to double figures. Hellraiser has now joined that exclusive club (alongside the Friday The 13th and Amityville franchises) with the upcoming Hellraiser Judgment. The first trailer for the tenth film in the series has now been released.

From the looks of it, Hellraiser Judgment contains all the elements that fans of the series will expect--bizarre killings, quasi-religious imagery, horrific creatures, and buckets of gore. And of course, Pinhead, the iconic leader of the demonic Cenobites, makes an appearance. Check the trailer out above.

A synopsis for the film has also been released. It reads, "The dreaded Pinhead returns in the next terrifying chapter of the classic Hellraiser series. Three detectives trying to stop a diabolical serial killer are sucked into a maze of otherworldly horror, where hellish denizens including the Auditor, the Assessor, and the Jury await to pass judgment." The movie hits VoD and home entertainment formats on February 13, just in time for Valentine's Day.

The Hellraiser series kicked off with Clive Barker's classic 1987 movie, which was based on one of his short stories. The flawed but ambitious Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 followed a year later, and since then there has been a steady stream of movies, some better than others. Hellraiser Bloodline (no.4) took Pinhead to space, while Hellraiser Inferno (no.5) is notable for being the directorial debut of Scott Derrickson, who most recently helmed Doctor Strange for Marvel.

Offbeat Superhero Show The Tick Is Back, Watch The New Trailer

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 03:29 pm

The offbeat superhero show The Tick is returning to Amazon Video next month. The first six episodes hit the streaming service last summer, and the next batch will be available from February 23.

A new trailer for the show has been released. Guardians of the Galaxy's Peter Serafinowicz plays the antennae-spouting hero of the title once more, with Griffin Newman (Search Party) as his reluctant accountant sidekick, Arthur Everest. The cast also includes Watchmen star Jackie Earl Haley as the villainous Terror, and Rogue One's Alan Tudyk as the voice of Dangerboat (who is a talking boat). Check it out above.

The Tick was created by Ben Edlund and first appeared in 1986 as a spoof of superheroes, initially in a comic strip before heading up his own title in 1988. Edlund is an executive producer on the show.

In an interview with Uproxx last year, Edlund spoke about striking the right tonal balance for the show. "I'd say that's the highwire act here," he said. "To me, it's a dangerous, but I think an exciting and interesting, move to take things seriously while still having fun with them. It creates a strange, interesting kind of crisp new air in it.

"I think for someone who cannot allow The Tick to grow or stretch, or find new territory, it might feel wrong, and that'd be okay. But I feel like what's happened is, a lot of the people I was worried about--the people The Tick's grown up around, and I've worked with, and fans that have weighed in so far--a very good number of them are feeling this new [approach]."

This marks the third time the character has been adapted for TV. In the mid-'90s he featured in an animated series, while a live-action show was broadcast on Fox in 2001. Although that only lasted nine episodes, it received strong reviews and has since gained a cult following. A terrible side-scrolling beat-em-up video game was also released in 1994.

X-Men Spin-off The New Mutants Gets Spooky New Teaser, Full Trailer Due Soon

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 03:27 pm

There are no fewer than three X-Men movies due in 2018--Deadpool 2, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and The New Mutants. The latter is not as high profile as the other two hotly anticipated sequels, but it's perhaps the most intriguing film of the lot. Director Josh Boone has previously described The New Mutants as a "horror movie," and last year's first teaser certainly suggested that this is what we can expect.

The movie arrives in April, so a full trailer is due very soon. In the meantime, a spooky new promo has been tweeted by the movie's official account. It shows the character of Sam Guthrie--aka Cannonball--who is played by Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton and seems to be undergoing some sort of traumatic flashback. Check it out below:

The New Mutants is released on April 13, 2018. It also stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Anya Taylor-Joy (Split), Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why), and Alice Braga (Elysium).

In an interview last October, Boone revealed that the movie could kick-start a trilogy of scary X-Men movies. "We brought it to Fox as a trilogy of films, really all based on that long run by [Marvel writer Bill] Sienkiewicz, and kind of incorporates some stuff from later issues in the '80s," he told Collider. "These are all going to be horror movies, and they're all be their own distinct kind of horror movies. This is certainly the 'rubber-reality' supernatural horror movie. The next one will be a completely different kind of horror movie.

"Our take was just go examine the horror genre through comic book movies and make each one its own distinct sort of horror film. Drawing from the big events that we love in the comics."

In related news, the first images from X-Men: Dark Phoenix were revealed last month. The movie will focus on the character of Jean Grey, who becomes corrupted by Phoenix Force that provided her with her powers, forcing her to turn them against the X-Men. It hits theaters in November.

Marvel's Black Panther Gets Wild New Trailer

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 03:26 pm

The first of 2018's superhero movies is Marvel's Black Panther, and it hits theaters next month. The character of T'Challa, the crime-fighting king of Wakanda, made an impressive debut in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, and his standalone movie looks sets to deliver the action-packed goods.

A new extended TV spot has landed, and it features plenty of new footage. There's more of Andy Serkis's shady arms dealer Ulysses Klaue, confrontations between T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and the villainous Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), and tons of thrilling action. Check it out above.

The trailer follows the previous ones that were released in December, October, and June. The movie is directed by Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed), and the cast also includes Lupita Nyong'o, Martin Freeman, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker. It hits theaters on February 12, 2018.

In a recent interview with Fandango, Coogler spoke about the character of Killmonger, and what sets him apart from previous Marvel bad guys. "I will say what makes him different--not from all Marvel villains, but I think a lot of Marvel villains--is that he has a real world sensibility to him," he said. "I think it's a benefit of having Mike as an actor, but he's a character that I think will feel very familiar to audiences. I think Marvel has had villains who you can relate to, but I think even more than that, you feel like he's of this world. He's very grounded, I would say."

In related news, it was confirmed recently that Jordan will return for Creed 2, the upcoming sequel to Coogler's hit Rocky spin-off. The film is to be directed by Steven Caple Jr, following the decision of writer and co-star Sylvester Stallone to step aside from directing duties.

The Mario Animated Movie Is Getting Closer To Reality

By Anonymous on Jan 10, 2018 10:49 am

In November, The Wall Street Journal reported that Nintendo was nearing a deal with Minions and Despicable Me studio Illumination Entertainment to make an animated Super Mario movie. Now, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has said the company is getting close to officially announcing a partner for the film, which remains officially unannounced.

As reported by Game Informer, Kimishima told the Japanese newspaper Kyoto Shimbun that Nintendo hopes to reach a deal soon and then, if all goes to plan, officially announce the Super Mario movie not long after that. The plan is for the movie to be in theatres before the Tokyo Olympics in 2020; that's also when Nintendo hopes to have the Super Nintendo Land theme park open at Universal in Japan.

The WSJ report from November said that Nintendo planned to have a creative role in the production of the film, and that series creator Shigeru Miyamoto will potentially serve as a producer. Miyamoto has previously experimented with film, even releasing a series of Pikmin shorts. Last year, Nintendo made it clear it was interested in expanding to films but that it would like to do "more than just license something."

1993's live-action Super Mario Bros. movie was a critical and commercial failure, with star Bob Hoskins--who played Mario--said it was the worst movie he's ever been a part of.

Over the years, Nintendo has been very hesitant to bring its franchises--which with Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, and others are among the biggest names in all of entertainment--to movies and TV. Given their prominence in the entertainment world, Hollywood has surely come knocking for adapatations, and now it appears Nintendo is ready to move ahead. Netflix was reportedly interested in making a Zelda TV show, though this never happened.

As for why Nintendo is looking at more licensing deals, Kimishima said in 2016 that fewer and fewer young people are finding out about Nintendo games through...games. Instead, they're discovering Nintendo and its characters through things like officially licensed Mario toothbrushes. So you can expect these kinds of licensing deals to continue and possibly increase, Kimishima said at the time.
