[Update] Steam.tv has been taken offline and, in a statement to CNET, a Valve representative said it was meant to be an internal test and was made publicly accessible by accident. "We are working on updating Steam Broadcasting for the Main Event of The International, Dota 2's annual tournament," the company explained. "What people saw was a test feed that was inadvertently made public," said the company."
[Original story] Valve, which runs digital game distribution platform Steam, has launched Steam.tv, a video streaming portal that could be direct competition to Twitch and YouTube. Steam.tv is currently showing Dota 2's The International, with no option to watch any other games or stream to the service yet. However, it's likely that both of these features will be introduced in the near future.
Once logged in, Steam.tv displays the new Steam Chat introduced recently and allows users to invite friends to join and view the video feed together. Although the site is currently a bit unstable, CNET has managed to explore some of the other functionality available. It reports that Steam.tv has built-in voice chat on Google Chrome, but this doesn't seem to work on Firefox or Edge.
At the time of writing, Valve hasn't publicly acknowledged the launch of Steam.tv, opting instead to quietly make it live. Given the size of Steam's user base and the fact that Steam is currently the leading digital game storefront, it makes sense that Valve would want to give Steam users a place to stream games or watch others do so. Although Twitch and YouTube are the go to services for game streaming, challengers have started to appear, most notably Microsoft's Mixer service and now Steam.tv.
Steam is also facing competition when it comes to the sale of games, with Discord--already incredibly popular service for chatting while playing games--recently announcing it will start selling games, and even for some with an exclusivity period. Major publishers like Bethesda, meanwhile, are also starting to distance themselves from Valve's platform. Fallout 76 will be distributed through Bethesda's own service first, instead on Steam.
The recent Steam Chat launch introduced new grouping features, a Favorites tag, and also revealed more details on what friends doing. Friends will now automatically be grouped by game and by party, which makes it easier play with them. The dedicated friends menu will display specific details about what exactly friends are doing in a game too. Additionally, group chats can be pulled together much easier now. You can read more about the Steam Chat update here.

Triple H and former WWE Superstar CM Punk don't like each other. Both men have been equally candid about this; they've given out-of character interviews about their relationship. And one of the funnier anecdotes (and the one that relates to this gallery) was their quibbling over the definition of "main event."
When Punk complained about never getting to main event WrestleMania, Triple H replied that Punk had main-evented Wrestlemania 29--that there were four main events. Punk responded (correctly) that there's only one main event; it's the match that goes on last.
Main eventing a WWE pay-per-view is an honor, because it's a declaration of faith by the company. They expect the fans to wait, sometimes for over three hours, to watch you perform, and they expect your match to send the fans home happy, and be one of the best outings of the night.
To celebrate the 31st edition of WWE Summerslam this Sunday, August 19, we're counting down all 30 SummerSlam main events, from worst to best, These are matches that WWE sold its "biggest party of the summer" on. Did they deliver?
Make sure to check out our schedule for Summerslam weekend along with our predictions, And check in with GS Universe starting at 5:00 PM ET on Sunday. We'll have live coverage of the entire event, starting with the pre-show.
30. Diesel (c) vs. King Mabel
Location: Pittsburgh Civic Arena, Pittsburgh, PA
Date: August 27, 1995
This was a slow, dull confrontation, between a guy whose main draw was his height, versus another guy who was simply dangerous in the ring. At one point, Mabel sat on Diesel's back with all of his weight, and Diesel's legs went numb. After the match Vince McMahon was ready to fire Mabel on the spot (NSFW language) for his recklessness. Diesel intervened, although Mabel never got a shot at the world title again.
29. The Undertaker vs. The Undertaker
Location: United Center, Chicago, IL
Date: August 29, 1994
This is traditionally considered the worst main event in Summerslam history. But what keeps it from being dead last is the "real" Undertaker's entrance; Paul Bearer brought a massive urn with a spotlight inside, and shone it all over the arena. Also, hindsight is 20/20; we may scoff at this now, but WWE fans were invested in this storyline at the time (though they lost some interest during the actual match).
28. Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton
Location: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY
Date: August 21, 2016
This was bizarre. Orton and Lesnar were having a decent (though not great match) when Lesnar took off his gloves and split Orton's head open. The gush of blood puddled in the arena, and the audience gasped. The WWE was so intent on swerving their audience--making them wonder whether this was "real" or not--that they sacrificed good storytelling, not to mention Orton's health, to do it. Awkward, and extremely irresponsible.
27. Team WWE vs. The Nexus
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
Date: August 15, 2010
In one elimination match, Team WWE buried seven wrestlers' careers. This was The Nexus' first big league exposure on a massive stage; surely, they could win the first fight, even if they were going to lose the entire feud. But Vince McMahon wanted a happy ending to his pay-per-view. And Cena decided put himself over, beating two men to take the team win. Edge disagreed. Chris Jericho disagreed. And after the match, Cena admitted he was wrong too.
26. The Ultimate Warrior (c) vs. Rick Rude
Location: Spectrum Field, Philadelphia, PA
Date: August 27, 1990
This is actually one of Warrior's better matches. He was a spectacle wrestler, not a technical wrestler, but fortunately, he was working with Rick Rude, who was one of the best workers in the company. The steel cage also adds some extra drama and variety, which forces Warrior to move out of his comfort zone, beyond his typical 5-10 minute match.
25. The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar
Location: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York
Date: August 23, 2015
This was a decent match undone by bad editing and a bad ending. Here's the finish: Brock Lesnar locks in the Kimura Lock. Undertaker taps. The bell ringer rang the bell. But since the referee didn't see the tap, the match continued. And while all this was being sorted out, Undertaker hit Lesnar with a low blow and locked in Hell's Gate, forcing Lesnar to tap out. It had the effect of making Undertaker the babyface in the feud, look like a cowardly cheater, and the cameraman forgot to show the Undertaker tapping, which made things extremely confusing for the viewers at home.
24. Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake vs. Randy Savage and Zeus
Location: Meadowlands Arena, East Rutherford, NJ
Date: August 28, 1989
It's filled with bad 80's schtick, and lots of run-ins and interference by Sensational Sherri. But despite this, Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan are so magnetic and charismatic, that the match works the way it's supposed to. Beefcake also does well, and Zeus, while not a trained wrestler, holds his own and gets carried by the other three.
23. Hulk Hogan and Location: Gund Arena, Cleveland,Ultimate Warrior vs. Sgt. Slaughter, General Adnan, & Colonel Mustafa
Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
Date: August 26, 1991
This was right in the midst of Slaughter's Iraqi sympathizer heel turn, which got him legitimate death threats and heat. He teamed with Colonel Mustafa (Iron Sheik) and General Adnan in a handicap match against Warrior and Hogan. The American were the victors, and everyone went home happy. The match itself was just okay. You could tell that none of them were tag specialists; everyone worked the match like a singles competition, and they barely showed any team cohesion.
22. Shawn Michaels (c) vs. Vader
Location: Gund Arena, Cleveland, OH
Date: August 18, 1996
Vader was one of the stiffest competitors in WWE. He hit people, for real, and Shawn Michaels didn't want to work with him (NSFW language) because of that. Perhaps that's why this match never gelled together the way it should. There's also a moment where Vader forgets what he's supposed to do, and Shawn Michaels kicks and berates him right in the ring. Classy.
21. Booker T (c) vs. The Rock
Location: Compaq Center, San Jose, California
Date: August 19, 2001
World Heavyweight Champion Booker T came into WWE as a part of the Invasion, which merged the WCW, ECW, and WWE rosters together. But rather than establishing him as a legitimate, charismatic threat, WWE sent The Rock out every week to bury him and make him look like a fool. This match, where Rock scored a decisive win, was simply the icing on the cake.
20. Yokozuna (c) vs. Lex Luger
Location: The Palace, Auburn Hills, MI
Date: August 30, 1993
This was a match that sounded better on paper than in practice. The body contrast between the Yokozuna and Luger made for great spectacle television. And at SummerSlam Yokozuna worked a longer match than he usually did (though he was out of breath by end). Luger, meanwhile, played his All-American-Boy routine to the hilt, and the fans loved him for it.
19. Triple H (c) vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Nash vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton vs. Goldberg
Location: America West Arena, Phoenix, Arizona
Date: August 24, 2003
It's hard--extremely hard--to make a match with six participants any good, even in the Elimination Chamber. There's too much going on, and it's difficult to latch onto a single storyline and follow it through. This match also took place during one of Triple H's most dominant runs; as the de facto leader of the Evolution stable. He was nearly unbeatable, causing fan fans to respond negatively.
18. Stone Cold Steve Austin (c) vs. Triple H vs. Mankind
Location: Target Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Date: August 22, 1999
Fans have a tendency to look at the Attitude Era through rose-colored glasses. Although the era was high on charisma and personality, the matches were often little more than messy looking brawls. This match is one of them. Austin and Triple H have great chemistry, but Mankind (Mick Foley) doesn't mesh particularly well with either of them in this bout.
17. Edge (c) vs. John Cena
Location: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
Date: August 20, 2006
Edge was really good at drawing heat and hatred from the audience. Cena, as a 100% babyface, was his perfect foil; they always had excellent matches together, especially when Edge found new ways to cheat. And in this match, Lita slipped Edge some brass knuckles while being held in the fireman's carry position, and Edge walked away with the win. Ultimate opportunist indeed.
16. Chris Benoit (c) vs. Randy Orton
Location: Air Canada Centre, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Date: August 15, 2004
Benoit was coming off an emotional high after winning the World Heavyweight title at Wrestlemania XX. But then at Summerslam, Orton ended his fairytale by taking beating him for the title. And best of all, he did it cleanly, and as a heel. It was clear that the company had faith in the young Superstar; the Legend Killer was on his way to becoming a legend himself.
15. Stone Cold Steve Austin (c) vs. The Undertaker
Location: Madison, Square Garden, New York, NY
Date: August 30, 1998
This match, like a lot of pre-2000 Undertaker matches, is a pretty non-scientific affair. It's solid bout, but there's nothing to make it stand out from any Raw main event. They brawl. Then they brawl some more. Austin hits the Stunner. He gets the pin. And so forth.
14. Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
Date: August 19, 2012
For about a year, Lesnar had a storyline that involved him breaking Superstars' arms with his patented Kimura Lock. Triple H wrestled this match after having his arm "broken" once. And during this match, he had it "broken" once again He would finally pin the Beast the following year at Wrestlemania 29.
13. John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton
Location: Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, New Jersey
Date: August 26, 2007
These two have faced each other way too many times over the years, and fans have gotten sick of it. So watching the first title match between them can feel a little tedious; they went on to have better matches (like their Iron Man match) with higher emotional stakes. Still, it's good, solid match out of OVW's two best graduates, and it does nothing wrong, per se, other than being the first of many.
12. Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels
Location: MCI Center, Washington, D.C.
Date: August 21, 2005
The stories behind this match are hilarious. Shawn Michaels, unhappy that he had to lose to the Hulkster, reportedly did his best to oversell Hogan's offense. And watching the match, with this rumor in mind, is great fun. Michaels always bumped hard, but he takes it way too far here. performing forward flips and backflips like a fish out of water. As a technical match, it's a mess. As an example of "sports entertainment," it's a classic.
11. John Cena (c) vs. Brock Lesnar
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
Date: August 17, 2014
That evening, John Cena took 16 suplexes to the back of his neck and head. He was dominated from the start to the finish of the match; not once did he launch anything resembling a threatening offense against Lesnar. It's a great match for its sheer novelty value; Cena never loses like this, ever. And until his squash loss again the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 34, he never did so again. It felt like we were watching something that we weren't supposed to see.
10. Jeff Hardy (c) vs. CM Punk
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
Date: August 23, 2009
Jeff Hardy is forever associated with tall ladders and high places, and in the main event of 2009's Summerslam, CM Punk was able to beat the Enigma at his own game. Lots of daredevil-type antics went down in this tables, ladders, chairs match, and both men risked their personal safety for the sake of entertainment. No matter if you "plan" to dive off a ladder, it's going to hurt a whole lot.
9. Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Samoa Joe vs. Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman
Location: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York
Date: August 20, 2017
It might be a little early to put this match so high on the list, but it was truly that good. It was a clash of giants: four men, all heavyweights and super-heavyweights outdoing each others' feats of strengths. The definitive star of this match was Braun Strowman, who dumped a table on top of Lesnar and made the Beast look vulnerable, for the first time in a long time.
8. The Undertaker (c) vs. Bret Hart
Location: Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford, NJ
Date: August 3, 1997
This match was good right up to the ending, which is when it became great. Bret spat on Shawn. Shawn swung a chair at Bret's head. Bret ducked. And Shawn hit The Undertaker instead, costing the Dead Man the match and his title. Michaels and Hart's real-life animosity gives this confrontation, which Michaels refereed, a little extra bite.
The Hell in the Cell has always been a place for the Dead Man to shine. And as good as this match was, it was the aftermath that remains burned in people memories. Undertaker slammed Edge off a ladder and through the mat. Moments later, the hole belched out a massive fireball. "Undertaker sent Edge straight to hell!" Jim Ross rasped excitedly.
6. John Cena (c) vs. Daniel Bryan
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
Date: August 18, 2013
Babyface vs. babyface doesn't always work out, because it divides the audience's sympathies. But Daniel Bryan was such a likable underdog that it didn't matter; everybody was firmly on his side; he has the effect, like Kevin Owens does and like Roman Reigns does, of elevating his opponents' game. When he won, the audience was ecstatic; finally, their hero was champion. And of course, that's exactly when Triple H knifed him in the back and sent Randy Orton out to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Especially in the past ten years, WWE has made a habit of giving SummerSlam a "bad" ending. But for an all-too-brief moment in 2013, everything was good.
5. The Rock (c) vs. Kurt Angle vs. Triple H
Location: Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena, Raleigh, North Carolina
Date: August 27, 2000
For the young fans who seem him today as the Raw General Manager, it's hard to imagine how agile and smooth Kurt Angle was as a young man. But this match is a testament to how well the Olympic gold medalist could work with a variety of opponents. He could have a technical masterpiece with Chris Benoit. He could have a drag-out fight with Triple H or Brock Lesnar. And he could have a "sports entertainment" showcase with The Rock. This triple threat is legitimate gold, with great pacing and a ton of suspenseful, close finishes.
4. CM Punk (c) vs. John Cena (c)
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
Date: August 14, 2011
This match, to determine the undisputed WWE champion was first-rate storytelling and action. This was post-pipebomb tweener Punk, taking on WWE company man Cena. It's not as good as their Money in the Bank match months before, but that's a tall order to fill. The rematch was wonderful too, and it was only compromised a last-minute swerve, which saw Alberto Del Rio cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase and steal the title.
3. The Rock (c) vs. Brock Lesnar
Location: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, New York
Date: August 25, 2002
This was a passing of the torch. With a brutal, definitive F-5, Brock Lesnar pinned The Rock to become WWE champion. In one corner you had the most charismatic Superstar of his generation. In the other, you had a veritable monster, who at 25 years old became the youngest WWE champion, after being on the main roster for less than a year.
As a general rule, Bret Hart never lost cleanly. But when Bret Hart took on his brother-in-law, the British Bulldog at Wembley Stadium, he made an exception. This match has everything: Hart's finesse, Bulldog's raw power, and the combined communication skills of two Stu Hart's dungeon graduates. The English audience was ecstatic for their countryman to win gold, which added a high stakes emotional component.
The best wrestling matches are equal parts precision, athleticism, and showmanship. Bret vs. Bulldog has all three, which makes it No. 1 on our list.
Star Wars Rebels finished its four season run back in March, but fans of animated adventures within the Star Wars universe don't have to wait for the next series. Star Wars: Resistance premieres on the Disney Channel in October and the first trailer has been released.
Resistance was created by Dave Filoni, who oversaw both Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and it looks like a similar mix of comedy, drama, and epic space action. The show focuses on a young pilot named Kazuda, who is recruited by the Resistance to take on a top-secret mission to infiltrate the First Order. Check the trailer out above.
As the trailer reveals, there are a couple of familiar faces alongside the new characters. Droid fan favorite BB-8 is in there, and there's an appearance from Poe Dameron from the recent Saga movies, voiced by Oscar Isaac. Star Wars: Resistance premieres at 10PM ET/PT on October 7.
When Resistance was first announced in April, Filoni spoke about his inspirations. "The idea for [the show] came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots," he said. "My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that's been a big influence on me. There's a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we've captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time."
In related news, The Clone Wars is also returning. The show seemingly ended with a short sixth season on Netflix in 2014, with many of the storylines incomplete. But at San Diego Comic Con last month, Disney announced that Season 7 is on the way. It will be overseen by Filoni once more, and is set to premiere on the studio's upcoming streaming platform, which launches next year.
While no Star Wars movie has been officially announced beyond next year's Episode IX, there have been plenty of rumors of potential spin-offs, including movies focusing on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett. However, following the commercial disappointment of Solo: A Star Wars Story earlier this year it was rumored that Lucasfilm had stopped development on further spin-off films. While the studio subsequently denied this, it has now been reported that work has indeed ended on a movie set on Tatooine.
The news comes via Neil Lamont, who worked as production designer on both Solo and Rogue One. In an interview with Cinemablend, Lamont revealed that he had started pre-production work on another spin-off, but this was now on pause. "We were just starting our work on another Star Wars spin-off," he said. "We were actually just making our mark on Tatooine--which would have been interesting-- and some other new galaxies. So hopefully, if that comes back, we'll get the chance to be able to do that further."
Lamont did not reveal what the movie was, but there are a couple of possibilities. The Obi-Wan movie has been rumored for sometime, with Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry attached and the possibility of Ewan McGregor returning to reprise his prequel trilogy role as Obi-Wan. However, in a recent interview, McGregor said that while he would love the play the character again, he knew nothing about the project.
In addition, there had been more recent rumors of a movie set within the Mos Eisley spaceport. In June, Making Star Wars reported that pre-production on a Mos Eisley film had been shut down, and the studio space reserved at London's Pinewood Studios had been given back.
While there are no Star Wars movies on the calendar beyond Episode IX, we know that there are two new movie series in the works. One is being developed by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, while the other is from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. In addition, Iron Man director Jon Favreau is working on a live-action Star Wars TV show, which will premiere on Disney's upcoming streaming platform.
In related news, Episode IX is now in production. The films is directed JJ Abrams, who also helmed 2015's The Force Awakens, and it hits theaters in December 2019. Earlier this month, the first image was released from the set. In addition, the first trailer for the upcoming animated show Star Wars: Resistance was released this week.
Since WWE made every PPV a dual-branded event this past year--including superstars from both Raw and Smackdown--it's hard not to look at the match cards and compare which show was booked better. Every wrestling fan is doing it, so why not talk about it? With Summerslam fastly approaching, both Raw and Smackdown are attempting to steal the show, whether they admit it or not.
Coming to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday, August 19, Summerslam will be a stacked event, with 13 matches on the card. Both Raw and Smackdown have each booked six matches for the PPV--and one match from 205 Live--so it should be an evenly amazing card, right? Sadly, that's not the case. Here's what Raw and Smackdown have booked for Summerslam and our analysis of each card.
Raw Match Card:
The B-Team vs. The Revival [KICKOFF MATCH] (For the Raw Tag Team Championship)
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Seth Rollins (For the Intercontinental Championship)
Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens
Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin
Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Ronda Rousey (For the Raw Women's Championship)
Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns (For the Universal Championship)
Analysis: Looking at the card--as a whole--the match to keep your eye on is Ziggler vs. Rollins. They have been putting on stellar matches the past two months, and this could very well be the "match of the night" from both Raw and Smackdown's rosters.
That being said, the rest of the Raw match card feels lackluster. It's not bad, but it's not great. The Lesnar/Reigns storyline has been done to death in the realm of PPVs, and the outcome is always the same: Lesnar wins, the WWE Universe boos. While Rousey/Bliss will more than likely be a fun match, I'm just not too excited for it. That's how I feel about most of the Raw roster matches for the PPV, "I'd watch it, but the build and matches just don't feel right for Summerslam." And half of these matches--Balor/Corbin, Strowman/Owens, and Rollins/Ziggler--all happened at last month's PPV, Extreme Rules.
Smackdown Match Card:
Rusev & Lana vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas & Zelina Vega [KICKOFF MATCH]
Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Jeff Hardy (For the United States Championship)
Carmella (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch (For the Smackdown Women's Championship)
Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz
The Bludgeon Brothers (c) vs. The New Day (For the Smackdown Tag Team Championship)
AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe (For the WWE Championship)
Analysis: Picking the best on this card, prior to the match actually happening, is real tough. Both AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe and Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz are "match of the night" contenders. However, Bryan/Miz gets a slight advantage because of the buildup between these two characters. To the best of my memory, we haven't seen a sanctioned match between the two since 2010, and this rivalry really kicked up during a Talking Smack episode in 2016--which Bryan discussed with GameSpot. It is one of the best rivalry builds in WWE's history, and it's all because of Bryan couldn't wrestle and kept getting taunted by Miz. It's a happy accident.
Out of all the Smackdown matches on this card, Bludgeon Brothers vs. New Day is what I'm least excited for. But that's not saying much as every Smackdown Summerslam match is one I'm dying to see, even the Kickoff Show match. Smackdown knows what it's doing headed into Summerslam. Additionally, this card is fresh, with only Nakamura/Hardy being a repeat from Extreme Rules, and that was a four-second match, so it needs a rematch.
Final Thoughts
It's clear that Smackdown has a far better card booked than Raw. The storylines leading up to its matches have been much more fun, and most importantly, Smackdown's card doesn't feel like a rehashing of Extreme Rules from last month. That being said, Raw's Rollins/Ziggler has the potential to be the best match of the night, closely followed by Miz/Bryan and Styles/Joe. However, potential doesn't mean diddly in the long run. It's all up to how these superstars perform and present their matches in the ring.
Let us know what you're looking forward to for Summerslam in the comments below and which show you think was booked better. Make sure to come back to GameSpot on Sunday, August 19 for live coverage of Summerslam, but in the meantime, check out our predictions for the event, the rumors, and our interview with Daniel Bryan about his rivalry with The Miz.
Since debuting at the Royal Rumble back in January, Ronda Rousey's WWE career has been an interesting one to follow. Almost immediately she found herself in a high-profile role at Wrestlemania, followed by title matches against Nia Jax and, at SummerSlam, Alexa Bliss.
Given her quick rise in the women's division, some fans might think this is too much too soon for the UFC Hall of Famer. She knows more about how professional wrestling on the scale of WWE works than you might expect, though. Speaking to GameSpot while promoting her new film, Mile 22, Rousey makes it clear she has an understanding of the business that many fans--and wrestlers, for that matter--have yet to grasp. "[WWE is] definitely much more similar to, I would say, filming a TV show than to being in a fight," she says. "I think a lot more carries over from fight choreography than actual fighting."
For Rousey, her WWE experience has been a crash course in acting, which she says has helped her become a better performer. Coming into WWE essentially as an outsider has given her unique insight into how the process of being a WWE performer works.
"Usually I don't know what's going to happen until the day of, maybe an hour or two before I go out there," she explains. "So they're like, 'Okay, here's a whole fight scene that you need to memorize right now.' The kind of fight scene that you would spend six weeks or so rehearsing for a movie."
Not only does she have to memorize the choreography she plans to use in the ring, there's also the camera to worry about. While in UFC, finding the camera doesn't matter much, but the same cannot be said of WWE.
"In WWE, I need to know this is the hard [camera] side," she says. "If I'm not facing that side, there isn't already a camera pointed at me. So if I'm doing something that emotionally needs to be registered on my face, I need to hold where I'm at long enough for a handheld person to come over here, and keep my eye on this person, but be aware that this camera came here, and this person got this shot so now I can move on to the next thing."
Then, of course, there's the WWE Universe. When your performing, whether it's a match or a promo, the live audience doesn't bother holding back their opinions. "It really teaches me a lot that I think people wouldn't learn unless performing in front a live audience, [like] how an audience feels about everything that you're doing while you're doing it," she explains. "A lot of times in a movie you just have to guess how the audience will feel in this moment. But when you're out there, it's immediate feedback. I'm out there in front of 30,000 people. And they'll let you know."
With training like what she's getting as a WWE superstar, it's no wonder Rousey is able to rise to the challenge of filming intense action scenes like those in Mile 22. However, it also shows that not everyone is cut out for WWE.
The moment there were rumblings about Rousey potentially joining WWE, the talk among fans was divided as to whether she would flourish as a professional wrestler. When she immediately debuted on Raw, rather than going through WWE's NXT developmental system, the deck was stacked against her. However, her understanding of the product and how she can add to it has brought her great success. And it shows in the WWE Universe's response to her. Unlike the divided reaction Roman Reigns gets anytime he walks into an arena, Rousey is met with near-universal approval.
Truthfully, Rousey is a template for anyone who wants to turn their outside success into WWE stardom. She's cracked the code and it has not only made her a better performer but a better actor in her film and TV projects.
Mile 22 is in theaters on August 17. You can also see Rousey fight for the Raw Women's Championship against Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam on August 19. Before the show, make sure to check out GameSpot's SummerSlam predictions.
With Summerslam right around the corner, what WWE rumors are rumbling along the internet? What are industry insiders or that random crazy person on Twitter saying? It's time, once again, to take a look at what could happen at WWE's next PPV. Where are you going to be on Sunday, August 19? Will you be out in the sun, enjoying a beverage by the beach or will you be inside all day watching a WWE PPV? If you're a wrestling fan, chances are you'll be watching Summerslam on the WWE Network.
For the fourth year in a row, the WWE event--one of the year's biggest--will be taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The show will start at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT with a Kickoff Show starting two hours prior on the WWE Network. This year's event is going to be jam-packed, as there are 12 matches already on the card, and there's a good possibility--if the rumors are correct--there will be even more, which will really screw up our predictions.
And there are plenty of rumors about the show, including the fact that the current card isn't the final card. Here are the Summerslam rumors from industry insiders, but keep in mind that these are just rumors and not confirmations. We'll keep you updated with any more rumors as the week continues.
Longest PPV Ever
This will be one of the longest PPV of the year. Currently, on the WWE Network, the service has 6.5 hours blocked off for Summerslam and the Kickoff show. It could easily run longer than that though, especially if WWE keeps adding matches to the card. Earlier this year, Wrestlemania 34 came in at a little more than 7 hours in total.
Walk With Elias
Although it hasn't been booked yet, you can expect to see a last minute booking of Elias vs. Bobby Lashley, most likely on the Kickoff Show. WWE has been building to a match between the two for weeks and the Kickoff is the only place it fits.
UPDATE 8/14/18: Elias now has a spot on the Summerslam card where he will perform. We expect Lashley to interrupt.
Asuka Didn't Quit
Asuka might be added to the triple threat match for the Smackdown Women's Championship. There have been rumors that she quit the company recently, but those have been put to rest as she'll appear on Smackdown on August 14. (via Slicewrestling)
Return Of The Lunatic Fringe?
Could Dean Ambrose return at Summerslam? He's been on the injured list for quite some time, but he's apparently coming back to WWE sometime soon, possibly just in time for Summerslam. That could mean Seth Rollins could have someone by his side while fighting off Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre. (via PWInsider)
UPDATE 8/14/18: Amborse returned on the August 13 episode of Raw and is back by Seth Rollins' side.
Spicing Up The IC Title Match
Apparently, the only potential match change being mentioned by name right now is Rollins vs. Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship. Could McIntyre and maybe even Ambrose be added to this bout? (via WrestleVotes)
UPDATE 8/14/18: In WWE's promotional images for Summerslam, both Drew McIntyre and Dean Ambrose appear. More than likely, both men will just be in their friends' corners for the match.
More Changes Coming To The Card
Because fans have said the summer event lacks excitement, there is a plan to change the card a bit leading up to Summerlsam. Multiple matches will be affected. (via Cagesideseats)
Daniel Bryan Isn't Going Anywhere
There has been a lot of talk about whether Daniel Bryan will renew his contract with WWE in September. However, with Daniel Bryan being the focus of 2K's next WWE game, it seems likely that Bryan will be working with the company for at least another year.
In GameSpot's interview, Bryan said, "I just don't want things that aren't creatively fulfilling, so I don't care what you do, as long it doesn't put me in this mental funk, where I just feel like, "Oh man, I can't believe I have to do this today." But anything other than that, usually I'm just happy to be back wrestling."
While talking to Bryan, his face lit up while talking about in-ring wrestling and being cleared by doctors in WWE. And he and Miz may not see eye-to-eye on a lot of things in ring or out, but he seems very happy with his current feud with him.
Brock Lesnar's Secret Meeting
This is a rumor no one is excited for. According to Barnburner's Fired Up podcast (via Ringside News), there is a chance Brock Lesnar will stay with WWE. According to the episode, Sunday afternoon, before Summerslam begins, Lesnar will have a meeting with head executives at WWE. While no one truly knows what the meeting is about, Joe Peisich on the episode believes there's a chance he could be working for both WWE and the UFC. Does that mean there's also a chance he could retain the title?
Make sure to come back to GameSpot on Sunday, August 19 for live coverage of Summerslam.
Blizzard has officially confirmed that Diablo 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch. Titled Diablo 3: Eternal Collection, it will feature the original game, alongside the Reaper of Souls expansion, Adventure Mode (fully unlocked from the outset), Challenge Rifts, Kanai's Cube, and the Crusader class. Additionally, it'll also have the Rise of the Necromancer pack, which primarily consists of the Necromancer class. The game does not have a specific release date but Blizzard has said it is tentatively aiming for Fall 2018 with an MSRP of $60 in the US.
The Switch version of Diablo 3 is being developed in-house and utilizes the work done for the well-received PS4 and Xbox One ports of the game. Senior producer Pete Stilwell described the portability that Nintendo Switch offers as a new evolution of the Diablo 3 experience.
"I think this [is] the next evolution. The portability of Switch [and] the ability to play offline with your friends locally between multiple Switch [consoles] is really powerful. We're excited to be able to travel, [play] this on a plane, get off the plane, [and] upload progress."
By utilizing the Nintendo Switch's online service, save files will be automatically uploaded to the cloud, allowing for progress to be backed up and also transferred onto other devices.
"Switch automatically uploads save files. The only thing that won't upload is leaderboards, but anything else such as achievements or progress that's made through campaign will be [uploaded]," explained associate producer Matt Cederquist.
"Another cool feature is the ability to play offline and still have progress count, and you can load your profiles back and forth, so if you're on a buddy's Switch you can load your file and get the character you want in the game too," added Stilwell.
When the console version of Diablo 3 launched, Blizzard implemented a feature that let players transfer characters from PS3 and Xbox 360 to PS4 and Xbox One, respectively. However, this functionality is not going to be available for the Switch version. Cross-platform play will also not be supported. Online multiplayer in the Nintendo Switch version will be up and running when the game comes out and, like uploading saves to the cloud, it will use the Nintendo Switch's paid online service.
In terms of performance, Diablo 3 on Switch will run at 60 frames per second "across the board." In handheld mode the game is displayed at 720p and then flips to 960p when docked.
"That was a huge focus, to make sure we were giving a responsive, awesome gameplay experience and we've managed to achieve that," said Stilwell. "Part of the technology itself changes [depending on whether] you're docked or not. That was one of our learning experiences along the way, dealing with how the architecture changes depending on whether you're docked or mobile. It's just an optimization effort.
"In my mind the only thing that changes is the Switch itself goes from 720p to 960p. You should not be feeling any different; we don't feel anything different ... We for the past couple of months have spent more time just making sure that the game feels as great no matter what controller setup you have, whether you're plugged in or not. Our biggest motivation was to make sure that we weren't giving you an inferior experience."
Diablo 3: Eternal Collection accounts for the various controller configurations available to Switch owners, supporting everything but touch.
"The real power of the Switch is the multiple ways you can play it, whether it's handing your friend a controller and playing on the same Switch at the same time, linking multiple Switches, or going old school and playing it on your TV," said Stilwell. "We're taking full advantage of what Switch has to offer. The responsiveness you get from Diablo with controller is an evolution of the experience from clicking on PC, and we've done the work to get it as playable and as responsive on Switch as any other platform so we're extremely excited about the offering.
"We support everything except for touch at this point," he added. "We did some experiments with touch and we didn't think there was enough compelling reasons to use it in the current state. We felt the controllers were a superior method of controlling the game."
The Switch version also comes with some exclusive goodies for Nintendo fans, including the ability to use the transmogrification feature to turn into The Legend of Zelda villain Ganondorf. You can read all about the Diablo 3 Switch Nintendo tie-ins here.
The weekly challenges for Fortnite have been refreshed on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile, which means there's a new batch of Battle Stars to be earned. We've already put together a guide to all the Season 5, Week 6 challenges, along with a walkthrough of how to complete the Search Where The Stone Heads Are Looking challenge. However, there's a second challenge in the latest batch that is a little more difficult than the rest--complete timed trials. But never fear, we've got some tips that will help you through it.
The challenge is exclusive to the paid Battle Pass tier and asks players to complete five timed trials. This is the first challenge of its kind and involves collecting a number timer symbols within a certain location before the allotted time runs out. This is pretty easy on its own, but it's not simply a case of running to them and grabbing them. Some of the timed trials are much easier if you build your way up to the collectible, so you'll need to have resources handy. Others, meanwhile, can be done quicker by using an ATK, which doesn't automatically spawn nearby, so you'll have to hunt for one.
Thankfully, the trials are repeatable, so you can usually take a shot at one, get a feel for where the timer collectibles are placed, and then figure out what you need to get them all. Completing this is very much a case of trial and error, so set aside a little time to work through the process and get it done. Below you can find a map of where we found the Time Trials.
Once you've completed this week's challenges, there's still plenty of Battle Stars left to earn for those who haven't managed to finish previous challenges. To make that easier for you, we've put together a round-up of guides for all Season 5's challenges. Alternatively you can find the specific one you're looking for below.
Developer Epic Games has released the full patch notes for Fortnite update 5.21, which has a couple of new Limited-Time Modes and a new weapon. The two modes include Soaring 50s, where players get to leap and glide around to their heart's content, and Sniper Shootout, a mode where the new Heavy Sniper Rifle weapon can be used to pick off unsuspecting enemies.
We've reached the halfway point of August, which means Xbox Live Gold subscribers have two new games to download for free. The Xbox One freebie you can grab is For Honor, available now through September 15. The Xbox 360 game--which is also playable on Xbox One--is Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, available for free until August 31.
For Honor is an online brawler from Ubisoft. It pits three factions of warriors against one another: knights, samurai, and vikings. Each faction is divided into classes, and each class has its own abilities and fighting style. GameSpot's For Honor review praised the game's deep fighting mechanics for keeping the experience interesting. It's set to receive a big free update this fall that includes an ambitious new castle siege mode.
Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is a platformer that finds the mouse mascot bringing new life to a wasteland by using a magical paintbrush. Unfortunately, this game didn't fare quite so well in our review: "It's simply not worth suffering through hours of punishing game design to discover the occasional moments of nostalgic joy. Sadly, The Power of Two is another failed attempt at revitalizing Mickey's career." Maybe kids will get some fun out of it?
Also available for free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers right now is the 2014 racing game Forza Horizon 2. It's available until the end of the month.
