Season 5, Week 5 of Fortnite: Battle Royale is here, and with it comes a few new challenges to complete. One of those will require you to run around the game world in search of Rift Portals to use, which is much easier said than done. Rifts played a key part in the lead up to Season 5, transforming large areas of Fortnite's island. Interacting with them teleports you high into the air above the island, allowing you to plummet down to the ground or use the elevation to glide around. [Update: A bug that caused Epic to remove Rifts from the game temporarily has been resolved, so you should be able to once again undertake the challenge explained below.]
The difficult part of this challenge is actually finding these portals, as they appear randomly. Generally, you'll have to run around and just keep your eyes open, so we recommend just getting on with the other challenges and staying alert. However, there is one extra tell to look out for: when a rift opens, you'll hear a booming sound that serves as an audio cue to alert players nearby that one has opened, so keep your headphones on and turned up.
If you've never seen a rift before, they look like blue tears in the fabric of reality. They're tricky to see during the daytime, since they can blend into the brilliant blue sky, so it's worth constantly scanning the sky above you.
Although there's no specific location to find the rifts, anecdotally we've found we run into them most in the new areas that were added to the game at the start of Season 5. As a result, we recommend taking regular trips to the desert biome at the bottom of the map and hanging around Snobby Shores too. We've also had some luck finding them in the vicinity of Tomato Town and Risky Reels, so give those a shot if you're struggling.
If you're still trying to complete the other challenges for Fortnite Season 5, Week 5, we've put together a guide on how to follow the Snobby Shores Treasure Map, which is the other more time-consuming quest. Those still catching up on previous weeks' challenges can also take a look below, where you'll find a guide for the entire season thus far, along with some recent news surrounding Fortnite. Alternatively, you can head over to our dedicated Fortnite Season 5 challenge guide.
Another bug has been discovered in Fortnite, this time relating to the game's Rifts. As a result, developer Epic has had to temporarily disable the portals across every platform--PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile--until it can resolve the issue. [Update: Epic has restored Rifts, so the accompanying challenge should once again be doable.]
What makes this new bug particularly problematic is that it prevents players from completing one of the game's recent challenges. One of Week 5's objectives tasked players with using three Rift Portals, but now that they've been disabled in all game modes, those who have yet to complete the challenge will not be able to do so until they're reenabled.
Epic hasn't provided an estimate for how long it will take for the Rifts to return, although the developer typically addresses issues of this nature fairly quickly. The studio says it will provide a further update on the status of the Rifts via the Fortnite Twitter account once the bug has been fixed.
In recent weeks, a number of bugs have cropped up in Fortnite that directly impacted players' ability to complete certain challenges. An issue with grenades last week made it particularly difficult to finish the "deal damage with a Clinger, Stink Bomb, or Grenade" challenge, as damage inflicted by these weapon wasn't always counted toward progress. That bug has since been resolved with the recent 5.21 update.
Earlier in the season, shopping carts and ATKs had to be temporarily disabled due to a different issue. Because of that, many players weren't able to complete Week 4's "jump through flaming hoops" challenge, as the task required players to leap through the hoops using either of the two vehicles.
Fortunately, even if you haven't completed the Rift Portals challenge, you still have until the end of Season 5 to do so, giving you quite a bit of time to earn Battle Stars and level your Battle Pass up. Epic recently rolled out a new set of weekly challenges, which include searching where stone heads are looking and new timed trials. You can find more guides in our complete Season 5 challenge roundup.
[Update] Steam.tv has been taken offline and, in a statement to CNET, a Valve representative said it was meant to be an internal test and was made publicly accessible by accident. "We are working on updating Steam Broadcasting for the Main Event of The International, Dota 2's annual tournament," the company explained. "What people saw was a test feed that was inadvertently made public," said the company."
[Original story] Valve, which runs digital game distribution platform Steam, has launched Steam.tv, a video streaming portal that could be direct competition to Twitch and YouTube. Steam.tv is currently showing Dota 2's The International, with no option to watch any other games or stream to the service yet. However, it's likely that both of these features will be introduced in the near future.
Once logged in, Steam.tv displays the new Steam Chat introduced recently and allows users to invite friends to join and view the video feed together. Although the site is currently a bit unstable, CNET has managed to explore some of the other functionality available. It reports that Steam.tv has built-in voice chat on Google Chrome, but this doesn't seem to work on Firefox or Edge.
At the time of writing, Valve hasn't publicly acknowledged the launch of Steam.tv, opting instead to quietly make it live. Given the size of Steam's user base and the fact that Steam is currently the leading digital game storefront, it makes sense that Valve would want to give Steam users a place to stream games or watch others do so. Although Twitch and YouTube are the go to services for game streaming, challengers have started to appear, most notably Microsoft's Mixer service and now Steam.tv.
Steam is also facing competition when it comes to the sale of games, with Discord--already incredibly popular service for chatting while playing games--recently announcing it will start selling games, and even for some with an exclusivity period. Major publishers like Bethesda, meanwhile, are also starting to distance themselves from Valve's platform. Fallout 76 will be distributed through Bethesda's own service first, instead on Steam.
The recent Steam Chat launch introduced new grouping features, a Favorites tag, and also revealed more details on what friends doing. Friends will now automatically be grouped by game and by party, which makes it easier play with them. The dedicated friends menu will display specific details about what exactly friends are doing in a game too. Additionally, group chats can be pulled together much easier now. You can read more about the Steam Chat update here.

The confirmation that Diablo 3 is coming to Switch marks the first time in 15 years that a Blizzard title has appeared on a Nintendo platform. Now that the relationship between the two studios has been rekindled, discussions will naturally move to other Blizzard games that could make the jump to the Switch. Overwatch, the popular team-based shooter, stands out as a potential contender, and Blizzard thinks that, from a technology perspective, it is possible.
While talking about bringing Diablo 3 to Nintendo Switch, senior producer Pete Stilwell said that working on the game was a good opportunity for Blizzard to explore the Switch technology and get a better understanding of it. This was made easier by the fact that Diablo 3 has already been ported to consoles. With this in mind, GameSpot asked Stilwell how he felt about bringing Overwatch to the platform.
"Anything is within the realm of possibility," he said. "Our team was given the task to work on this. If [Overwatch developer] Team 4 picks up that endeavour, that's on them. As of right now Diablo is our only focus on Switch." Asked if he thinks Overwatch could run on Switch, Stilwell said, "Yes, it is feasible."
StarCraft 2, another big Blizzard title, is less likely to make the jump to Nintendo's new platform as the gameplay itself would require some reworking. Explaining the reasoning, Stilwell recalled the Nintendo 64 version of the first StarCraft, which had to be changed significantly to fit the platform.
"The N64 version of StarCraft was cool but you had to change the game quite a bit to make it work properly on console," he said. "StarCraft 2 is next level requirements from how much dexterity you need with a mouse and keyboard, so I think that would have been a very difficult port. It would have [to] change the core gameplay."
While StarCraft 2's reliance on mouse and keyboard is likely to keep a Switch version off the table, Overwatch is well suited to controllers, and given that console versions exist for Blizzard to work from, perhaps there is hope for Overwatch on Switch yet.
Diablo 3: Eternal Collection for Nintendo Switch is a content-rich package that will be available in 2018. It features the main game, as well as the Reaper of Souls and the Rise of the Necromancer DLC. It also comes with Zelda-themed crossover items.
2016's Doom surprised folks when it first launched. Touted as a franchise reboot, many had not anticipated that the game would fare so well, as the limited footage people had seen only gave brief glimpses of what to expect. But when the game finally released, it received glowing reviews. GameSpot's Peter Brown praised the game, saying, "It captures the essence of what made the classic Doom games touchstones of their day, and translates it to suit modern palates with impressively rendered hellscapes and a steady influx of tantalizing upgrades."
Bethesda recently confirmed Doom would receive a sequel titled Doom Eternal. For a while we didn't know much about what the game would be like, but creative director Hugo Martin and director Marty Stratton recently took to the stage at QuakeCon 2018 to finally show off gameplay.
To ensure you're kept up to date on everything there is to know about Doom Eternal, we've compiled all the information we have on the game so far. Be sure to keep checking back often as we update this feature with more details.
Doom Eternal is a sequel set sometime after the events of 2016's Doom. Not much is known about Eternal's exact premise aside from fact that it takes place on an Earth overrun by the forces of Hell. You'll also be spending time in space on Phobos, the innermost moon of Mars.
How Does It Play?
From a gameplay perspective, Eternal will play much like its predecessor, once again challenging you to fast-paced firefights against an onslaught of demons. Speaking of which, it has been confirmed that there will be twice as many varieties of demons as there were in the first game. Based on the early footage, Cacodemons, Barons of Hell, Pain Elementals, Arch-Viles, Arachnotrons, Imps, and Revenants are set to return. There will also be new demons coming in the form of reimaginings of enemies from Doom 2, as well as completely new enemies entirely.
There are going to be a ton of new weapons, but a few old ones from the previous game will return albeit with some subtle changes. For instance, the Plasma Rifle now shoots orbs that electrify enemies. While some weapons have been slightly changed, others have been revamped, like the Ballista, which is a new version of the Gauss Cannon that shoots explosive energy bolts.
Doom Slayer looks to play exactly as you remember him but with an expanded roster of mobility options. You now have the ability to quickly dash/dodge ala Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare; you can even climb certain surfaces and swing on poles in the environment to clear wide gaps. In addition, you can use a grappling hook to latch onto enemies and nearby surfaces. There are also new suit abilities, such as an arm blade and a shoulder mounted launcher that can shoot grenades and fire. Lastly, power-ups are returning and it appears they can enhance your physical characteristics permanently.
Any New Modes?
The biggest new addition in Eternal is an invasion mode where other players can jump into your single-player campaign as demons, basically forming hunting parties to take you out. The mode will allow you to join friends to invade or be invaded. Of course, you can also play alone if you don't want to deal with it.
In an odd twist, there appears to be a lives system of some kind. Based on the debut footage, this doesn't seem to directly impact normal single-player play, but we're thinking this item might come in handy during the invasions where you could easily die at any moment and lose your progress.
Is It Coming To Nintendo Switch?
A Nintendo Switch version of Eternal has been confirmed, but it's unclear if it'll release alongside the for PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions. In addition, it appears that Panic Button, the studio that handled porting the first game, will be returning to port Eternal--at least if this humorous tweet teasing at the possibility is to be believed.
Release Date
Bethesda has not confirmed a release date for Doom Eternal at this time, though it's set to launch sometime in 2019. We're hoping that a release window is confirmed sooner than later.
Only a couple years after Fallout 4's release, Bethesda surprised fans by officially announcing Fallout 76, the next entry in its beloved post-apocalyptic RPG franchise. The new game was revealed in a trailer after a series of teases, and Bethesda discussed it in more detail at E3 2018 and more recently at QuakeCon 2018. While there's still so much we do not yet know about Bethesda's upcoming game, the company has offered some clarity on Fallout 76's most curious features and additions to the Fallout formula.
To ensure you're kept up to date on everything there is to know about Fallout 76, we've compiled all the information we have on the game so far: the platforms it's on, its online functionality, its anti-griefing features, and where the game falls in the series' timeline.
Fallout 76 is a prequel to all of the previous Fallout games. Set in 2102, you play an inhabitant of Vault 76 who emerges from the shelter 25 years after the bombs fell on America. Your task is simple: explore what remains of post-apocalyptic America and rebuild civilization.
Longtime fans will likely recognize Vault 76; although it's not a place we've visited before, this isn't the series' first mention of it. Both Fallout 3 and 4 reference it and, according to the Fallout Wikia, this West Virginia-based vault was occupied by 500 of of America's best and brightest minds. Unlike the more grotesque experimental vaults in the Fallout universe, Vault 76 is a control vault intended to be opened 20 or so years after a nuclear war. But if the Vault was supposed to open 20 years after the bombs fell, why have 25 years gone by? The story likely has a few surprises in store.
Fallout 76 uses the Creation Engine, the same engine used to make Fallout 4, but it will purportedly feature much more graphical detail than its predecessor. Game director Todd Howard has said that Fallout 76 has new rendering and lighting technology, which allows for "16 times" the detail.
Who's Developing It?
Bethesda Game Studios, the Maryland-based developer responsible for the Elder Scrolls series and both Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, is at work on the game. In addition, Bethesda Game Studios Austin--formerly BattleCry Studios--assisted in fine-tuning the Creation Engine to support multiplayer functionality.
Is It An Online Survival Game?
Fallout 76 is a much different sort of game from its predecessors. It's "entirely online," but don't worry, you'll be able to play it solo too. According to Bethesda, the idea to take this approach to open-world survival came four years ago, when it started to work on building a multiplayer Fallout experience. Howard described the game's approach to survival as "softcore," which means death doesn't equal loss of progression.
You can form a party with up to three other players. You won't be able to manage your placement in servers when you login, as you'll automatically be inserted into a session with others upon booting up the game. Of course, you also have the option simply join alongside your friends and play together.
Howard commented that Fallout 76 will have dedicated servers that will support the game "now and for years to come." At launch, there will only be public servers, but Bethesda plans to introduce private servers that will allow players to invite friends to play in order to prevent undesirable behavior.
Some classic mechanics from past games will be changing to accommodate the shift to online play. For example, V.A.T.S has been reconfigured to work in real time, while still allowing players to target specific enemy body parts. But this time around, it has been updated to be more of a tool that allows you to spot out dangers in the environment.
How Big Is The World?
According to Howard, Fallout 76's world is four times the size of Fallout 4. There are six different regions to explore, and each has its own unique style, risks, and rewards. Confirmed areas include the West Virginia State Capitol, The Greenbrier, Woodburn Circle, New River Gorge Bridge, and Camden Park. Contained within each area is a variety of new creatures to encounter, some of which are based on West Virginian folklore.
What Can You Do?
Like previous games, players will spend the majority of their time exploring and completing quests. However, Fallout 76 will not feature any human non-player characters, as all surviving humans will be controlled by active players. Instead, the game will use combination of robot NPCs, collectible recordings, and environmental storytelling in order to give players what they need to piece together quests and the story at large.
Given the game's premise of rebuilding the world, there will be base-building elements similar to Fallout 4. You will be able to set up a bases anywhere using an item called the Construction and Assembly Mobile Platform, or CAMP. These can be placed down in the world and allow you to construct an impromptu camp. At E3, we got to see the player laying down walls and decorating the base with pool tables, toilets, and other household objects. As the "mobile platform" part of the name implies, your CAMP can also be picked up and relocated, allowing you to move your base anywhere in the world.
While you can help build the world, you can also destroy it. If you have the necessary nuclear launch codes, it's actually possible to access a missile silo to fire a nuke at any point on the map. Doing so irradiates the chosen area, but it also allows for the opportunity to discover rare weapons, gear, and items. Be wary; nuking an area also causes more powerful enemies to show up, making it more difficult to survive. But don't be discouraged by this, the CAMP blueprint system makes it easy for players to quickly rebuild their homes, and if they're privy to an incoming threat, they can pack their things and move to a new location.
As an online experience, player choice is said to be incredibly important, going as far as giving players the freedom to choose who are the heroes and who are the villains. Early footage showcased multiple players engaging in combat and participating in friendly activities, which seems to indicate that players have the freedom to choose their paths in the world of Fallout 76.
How Does Character Creation And Progression Work?
You'll have similar character creation tools as Fallout 4. However, you're free to change your appearance at any point. In addition, you can also utilize the game's new photo mode during the creation process to better see how your character looks, as well as snap some shots you can share on social media.
The SPECIAL system returns and it's a bit different. Like previous games, SPECIAL encompasses the following stats: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, Luck. You're given one point to put into any of those stats every time you level up. The first thing you do when you emerge from the vault is pick a SPECIAL and then you pick a perk in that particular SPECIAL. Essentially, every SPECIAL is a pool of points for your perks.
But unlike previous games, perks are now cards you can equip and unlock as you rank up in a given SPECIAL; though, you're free to swap cards out at any time if you want to alter your build. Each SPECIAL characteristic you develop has a perk card cap of 15. These perk cards can be enhanced further from one to five points to increase their power.
You can obtain additional perk cards via Perk Card Packs (four random cards), which you earn every two levels initially (1-10), and then every 5 after that. You can also pick one perk card per level, usually from your SPECIAL choice. There are hundreds of Perks cards you can unlock, so naturally SPECIAL ranks cap out after a while (you gain a rank up in a SPECIAL each time you level up). At level 50, you'll stop increasing SPECIAL ranks, but you'll still get card packs.
How Does PvP Work?
When you shoot someone you do a little bit of damage, which can be equated to lightly slapping them in order to challenge them to a duel. In response to this, the other player can choose to ignore or engage. If they engage in a battle with you, they'll start to take full damage. The one who is killed in this consenting PvP match has the option to seek revenge. Doing so gives that person the opportunity to get double the rewards granted they're successful.
If you'd rather choose to ignore a PvP match, there's no way to escape being killed--despite the small damage dealt to you during the initiation phases. However, if you are killed by a player under these circumstances, that player becomes a Wanted Murderer and will receive no rewards from having killed you.
A Wanted Murderer is marked on the map as a red star and a bounty is placed on their head. Players looking to cash in on this bounty aren't visible on the Murderer's map. If the murderer is killed, the money from that bounty is taken out their stock.
In order to give players time to properly acclimate to how Fallout 76 plays, PvP won't be available to players until level five. And if you perish from any PvP encounter, the only thing you'll lose is the junk you've been collecting, which can be reclaimed after death if not already picked up by other players. You can always store junk in stashes found around the world, so as to safeguard a portion of your stock. Armor and weapons are retained in your inventory after death.
Any Voice Chat?
It's possible to chat with your teammates and even strangers you discover out in the world. It's area-based so your ability to hear other plays will vary. But if you want nothing to do with strangers, it's possible to mute their voices entirely.
When's the Beta?
Falout 76's beta will be available exclusively to those who preorder the game. Bethesda said that it will begin selecting participants from the pool of pre-orders in early October. The plan is to start small and expand over time. Xbox One owners have a slight leg up on the beta compared to other platforms. For more details, you can check out Bethesda's Fallout 76 FAQ for more details on how to redeem your code.
Release Date
Fallout 76 is being developed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and is currently scheduled to be released on November 14. Unfortunately, there's no word about a Nintendo Switch release, which didn't seem out of the question after the Skyrim re-release made it to that platform.
The follow-up to Rockstar Games' classic western game Red Dead Redemption is fast approaching. Set 12 years before the events of the original game, Red Dead Redemption 2 will explore an expansive region of the American wilderness, with Dutch Van der Linde's gang on the run from lawmen during the last years of the wild west. Experiencing Rockstar's take on the open-world western from a new perspective, you'll uncover the history of the Van Der Linde gang, which has a young John Marston in its thralls.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was surprisingly a no show at this year's E3, despite the game releasing in only a few months. Still, the recent trailers, screenshots, and info have given us plenty to talk about. Here's everything we know so far about Rockstar Games' upcoming open-world western.
How Can I Play RDR2?
Red Dead Redemption 2 is set for release on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One. There are also plans for a collector's edition of the game called the Special Edition. Priced at $80, the package includes a copy of the game along with special missions, weapons and a physical map of the game world for players to own. There are also two additional packs for Red Dead Redemption 2 for premium prices, The Ultimate Edition and The Collector's Box--both priced at $100. While The Ultimate Edition has all items from the special edition--including additional DLC items to acquire--The Collector's Box does not include any digital items. Instead, it offers special playing cards, artwork, a bandit's bandana, a physical map of the game world, and a collector's coin in the set.
Though the original Red Dead Redemption never found its way to the PC, there's been some rumors that its sequel might. A mention of Red Dead Redemption 2's appearance on PC found its way online, but it has since been scrubbed.
Where Is RDR2 Set, And Is It A Prequel?
Set 12 years before the main events of the original game, the prequel focuses on the outlaw life of the Van der Linde gang, led by Red Dead Redemption's main antagonists. After a robbery in Blackwater (one of the original game's major towns) goes bad--the gang finds themselves on the run. Dutch, his right-hand man Arthur Morgan, and several members of the gang have to contend with a life on-the-run while confrontations with rival gangs and the law make their situation grow more desperate.
Rockstar also released a description of the plot:
America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed. After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.
The First Reveal
Debuting on October 20, 2016, the first trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 was a bit of a mood piece that showcased many locales in the game, while also portraying the somber tone of the main narrative. In this trailer, we saw several towns and locales, many of which are teeming with life and activity--such as ranchers rustling up some cattle, huntsmen bringing back their haul, and a group of citizens hanging out in the general store.
Who Are We Playing As?
Though the central character of Red Dead Redemption, John Marston, plays some role in the story--the main protagonist of the prequel is Arthur Morgan. As Dutch's right-hand man and enforcer for the gang, he'll handle much of the daily duties of keeping the gang in-check--which includes a young and less-experienced John Marston. When it comes to keeping the gang and its community afloat, Morgan is quite handy with picking up various jobs to ensure everyone is well fed and in good spirits. But as the story progresses, he'll begin to question his own resolve for Dutch's way of life, and whether he still has a place in the gang.
The Second Trailer
On September 28, 2017, the second trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted. In the new footage, we got to see more of Arthur Morgan and how ruthless he can be while on the job. During some of the story cutscenes, Morgan will use coercion and physical threats to collect money and information, all for the "benefit" of the community. For more info on this particular trailer, check out our detailed breakdown.
Who's In Dutch's Gang?
In Red Dead Redemption 2, we'll see Dutch's gang and its key players in their prime. While the original game had John hunt down and kill the remaining members of the gang, we'll see many of the familiar faces in relatively happier times. From the most recent trailer, we see Dutch Van der Linde, Arthur Morgan, Bill Williamson, Javier Esquela, Sadie Adler, Charles Smith, Micah Bell, Hosea Matthews, and of course John Marston in the roster. We'll also interact with other characters who would have a key role in the gang and in the lives of both Arthur Morgan and John Marston.
The Third Trailer
In the new footage released on May 2, we saw a deeper look into the game's narrative and how the gang functions. Along with the familiar activities like hunting, heists, and side-quests with the region's citizens, rob trains and banks, and take in shows at theaters. For the most part, the trailer focuses on the many connections you'll have with the members of the gang, as well as how your choices will affect them. For more info on the third trailer, check out our detailed breakdown.
What's New In Red Dead Redemption 2?
While the sequel is largely in the same vein as its predecessor, focusing on exploration, hunting, shoot-outs, heists, and other side-activities where you'll interact with a number of unique characters--Red Dead Redemption 2 features a far more expansive world to dive into. We got our first good look at this world and how we'll be playing through in Read Dead Redemption 2's first gameplay trailer.
The honor system from the original game makes a return, but now with far more detailed tracking. Along with the average citizen, members of your community will react to how well or how poorly you treat them. As the lead enforcer, Morgan will have to handle a ton of responsibilities, such as resource gathering, procuring funds, and making sure everyone in the community is happy.
First Gameplay Trailer
On August 9, Rockstar unveiled Red Dead Redemption 2's first gameplay trailer. The new footage revealed that the core mechanics from the original game were still intact, but almost everything had received a facelift. Wildlife is smarter and lives within its own ecosystem. Arthur Morgan can interact with the people around him in ways John Marston never could. For more info on the first gameplay trailer, check out our detailed gameplay mechanics breakdown.
How Will Online Multiplayer Work?
Currently, Rockstar hasn't shared any info on how the online play will function. The original Red Dead Redemption featured online free-for-all and team deathmatch style gameplay in the open world, along with several co-op themed missions. While it's safe to assume that these sorts of missions will return, another long-lingering rumor is the appearance of a battle royale mode. In the coming months before its release, we should expect to hear more about what Red Dead Redemption II will have when it comes to online.
Other Info
The History Of Red Dead - A look back on the history of the Red Dead series. From the early days a Gunsmoke spiritual sequel, to Rockstar Games' next successful open word game.
Star Wars Rebels finished its four season run back in March, but fans of animated adventures within the Star Wars universe don't have to wait for the next series. Star Wars: Resistance premieres on the Disney Channel in October and the first trailer has been released.
Resistance was created by Dave Filoni, who oversaw both Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and it looks like a similar mix of comedy, drama, and epic space action. The show focuses on a young pilot named Kazuda, who is recruited by the Resistance to take on a top-secret mission to infiltrate the First Order. Check the trailer out above.
As the trailer reveals, there are a couple of familiar faces alongside the new characters. Droid fan favorite BB-8 is in there, and there's an appearance from Poe Dameron from the recent Saga movies, voiced by Oscar Isaac. Star Wars: Resistance premieres at 10PM ET/PT on October 7.
When Resistance was first announced in April, Filoni spoke about his inspirations. "The idea for [the show] came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots," he said. "My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that's been a big influence on me. There's a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we've captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time."
In related news, The Clone Wars is also returning. The show seemingly ended with a short sixth season on Netflix in 2014, with many of the storylines incomplete. But at San Diego Comic Con last month, Disney announced that Season 7 is on the way. It will be overseen by Filoni once more, and is set to premiere on the studio's upcoming streaming platform, which launches next year.
While no Star Wars movie has been officially announced beyond next year's Episode IX, there have been plenty of rumors of potential spin-offs, including movies focusing on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett. However, following the commercial disappointment of Solo: A Star Wars Story earlier this year it was rumored that Lucasfilm had stopped development on further spin-off films. While the studio subsequently denied this, it has now been reported that work has indeed ended on a movie set on Tatooine.
The news comes via Neil Lamont, who worked as production designer on both Solo and Rogue One. In an interview with Cinemablend, Lamont revealed that he had started pre-production work on another spin-off, but this was now on pause. "We were just starting our work on another Star Wars spin-off," he said. "We were actually just making our mark on Tatooine--which would have been interesting-- and some other new galaxies. So hopefully, if that comes back, we'll get the chance to be able to do that further."
Lamont did not reveal what the movie was, but there are a couple of possibilities. The Obi-Wan movie has been rumored for sometime, with Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry attached and the possibility of Ewan McGregor returning to reprise his prequel trilogy role as Obi-Wan. However, in a recent interview, McGregor said that while he would love the play the character again, he knew nothing about the project.
In addition, there had been more recent rumors of a movie set within the Mos Eisley spaceport. In June, Making Star Wars reported that pre-production on a Mos Eisley film had been shut down, and the studio space reserved at London's Pinewood Studios had been given back.
While there are no Star Wars movies on the calendar beyond Episode IX, we know that there are two new movie series in the works. One is being developed by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, while the other is from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. In addition, Iron Man director Jon Favreau is working on a live-action Star Wars TV show, which will premiere on Disney's upcoming streaming platform.
In related news, Episode IX is now in production. The films is directed JJ Abrams, who also helmed 2015's The Force Awakens, and it hits theaters in December 2019. Earlier this month, the first image was released from the set. In addition, the first trailer for the upcoming animated show Star Wars: Resistance was released this week.
Since WWE made every PPV a dual-branded event this past year--including superstars from both Raw and Smackdown--it's hard not to look at the match cards and compare which show was booked better. Every wrestling fan is doing it, so why not talk about it? With Summerslam fastly approaching, both Raw and Smackdown are attempting to steal the show, whether they admit it or not.
Coming to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday, August 19, Summerslam will be a stacked event, with 13 matches on the card. Both Raw and Smackdown have each booked six matches for the PPV--and one match from 205 Live--so it should be an evenly amazing card, right? Sadly, that's not the case. Here's what Raw and Smackdown have booked for Summerslam and our analysis of each card.
Raw Match Card:
The B-Team vs. The Revival [KICKOFF MATCH] (For the Raw Tag Team Championship)
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Seth Rollins (For the Intercontinental Championship)
Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens
Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin
Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Ronda Rousey (For the Raw Women's Championship)
Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns (For the Universal Championship)
Analysis: Looking at the card--as a whole--the match to keep your eye on is Ziggler vs. Rollins. They have been putting on stellar matches the past two months, and this could very well be the "match of the night" from both Raw and Smackdown's rosters.
That being said, the rest of the Raw match card feels lackluster. It's not bad, but it's not great. The Lesnar/Reigns storyline has been done to death in the realm of PPVs, and the outcome is always the same: Lesnar wins, the WWE Universe boos. While Rousey/Bliss will more than likely be a fun match, I'm just not too excited for it. That's how I feel about most of the Raw roster matches for the PPV, "I'd watch it, but the build and matches just don't feel right for Summerslam." And half of these matches--Balor/Corbin, Strowman/Owens, and Rollins/Ziggler--all happened at last month's PPV, Extreme Rules.
Smackdown Match Card:
Rusev & Lana vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas & Zelina Vega [KICKOFF MATCH]
Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Jeff Hardy (For the United States Championship)
Carmella (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch (For the Smackdown Women's Championship)
Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz
The Bludgeon Brothers (c) vs. The New Day (For the Smackdown Tag Team Championship)
AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe (For the WWE Championship)
Analysis: Picking the best on this card, prior to the match actually happening, is real tough. Both AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe and Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz are "match of the night" contenders. However, Bryan/Miz gets a slight advantage because of the buildup between these two characters. To the best of my memory, we haven't seen a sanctioned match between the two since 2010, and this rivalry really kicked up during a Talking Smack episode in 2016--which Bryan discussed with GameSpot. It is one of the best rivalry builds in WWE's history, and it's all because of Bryan couldn't wrestle and kept getting taunted by Miz. It's a happy accident.
Out of all the Smackdown matches on this card, Bludgeon Brothers vs. New Day is what I'm least excited for. But that's not saying much as every Smackdown Summerslam match is one I'm dying to see, even the Kickoff Show match. Smackdown knows what it's doing headed into Summerslam. Additionally, this card is fresh, with only Nakamura/Hardy being a repeat from Extreme Rules, and that was a four-second match, so it needs a rematch.
Final Thoughts
It's clear that Smackdown has a far better card booked than Raw. The storylines leading up to its matches have been much more fun, and most importantly, Smackdown's card doesn't feel like a rehashing of Extreme Rules from last month. That being said, Raw's Rollins/Ziggler has the potential to be the best match of the night, closely followed by Miz/Bryan and Styles/Joe. However, potential doesn't mean diddly in the long run. It's all up to how these superstars perform and present their matches in the ring.
Let us know what you're looking forward to for Summerslam in the comments below and which show you think was booked better. Make sure to come back to GameSpot on Sunday, August 19 for live coverage of Summerslam, but in the meantime, check out our predictions for the event, the rumors, and our interview with Daniel Bryan about his rivalry with The Miz.
2K Games has announced the return of Showcase Mode for WWE 2K19, but this time, it will be revamped with a heavier focus on creating something more recognizable to WWE fans, akin to the documentaries on the WWE Network. A key difference this time around is that Daniel Bryan narrates his own life story as players progress through the mode.
The traditional Showcase Mode has been absent from 2K's series since WWE 2K16, when players reenacted some of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's greatest moments. There was a DLC version of this mode in the 2017 edition revolving around Hall of Fame superstars, but it felt lacking compared to the previous years. With 2K19, the objective is to improve Showcase Mode while having Bryan tell his story in his own words in the single-player mode.
In total, there will be 11 historical matches you can play, and one more bonus or "surprise" match, for a total of 12 Daniel Bryan-centric bouts. This includes Bryan's first WWE match--as Bryan Danielson--against John Cena. Because this spans the entire course of Bryan's time in WWE, there will be 11 different models of him, each of which will have their own movesets and unique appearances. Additionally, there will be eight new entrances for Bryan and 11 victory scenes.
What makes this year's Showcase Mode unique is the presentation. "[W]e came up with the idea of having [Daniel Bryan narrate] it, but we wanted to do it in a cool way and we're heavily influenced by what the WWE does as far as their production with the W24 series or 365," explained WWE 2K19 creative director Lynell Jinks to GameSpot during a press event in Bryan's hometown of Aberdeen, Washington. "We're like, 'can we get [WWE's] production team to do this?' And they were like, 'Oh yeah. This sounds like an amazing idea. Yeah, let's do it.' It was greenlit and so we moved forward with it. And so we were like, the next hardest thing was to come up with the matches, right? That we felt best represented his career."
In total, there are 15 Bryan interview packages and 20 video cutscenes to tie into the superstar's career. As you complete objectives, you unlock elements within the game from playable Bryan models to historic arenas like Velocity and Wrestlemania XXX.
There won't be any new gameplay mechanics added to this year's edition, so players shouldn't expect any curveballs while playing these matches. However, there have been some changes to address problematic areas in previous games.
While Bryan has spent lots of time outside of the ring as Smackdown's general manager, don't expect the gameplay to reflect that. Player won't be making classic decisions like, "Who will Bryan book this week?" However, it's still a part of Showcase Mode. "We allowed him to tell that story and what it was like coming back as a GM and what that meant to him... It's cool hearing in his own words, like how it kind of filled that gap for him a little bit," explained Jinks.
He went on to add that the difference between this and previous incarnations of Showcase Mode is that WWE 2K19 adds an emotional element to the storytelling because this is all in Daniel Bryan's words. While Bryan spent the past three years injured, in March 2018, he was cleared to wrestle. On August 19, at Summerslam, Daniel Bryan returns to his longtime feud with former mentor and rival, The Miz. Bryan discussed working with The Miz over the years to GameSpot during the press event.
Once again, there will be a gigantic roster for WWE 2K19, which comes out on October 9, 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. 2K will be skipping out on Switch this year. WWE 2K19 also has a special edition featuring Ric Flair, called the "Woooooo Edition," which will cost $130.
Since debuting at the Royal Rumble back in January, Ronda Rousey's WWE career has been an interesting one to follow. Almost immediately she found herself in a high-profile role at Wrestlemania, followed by title matches against Nia Jax and, at SummerSlam, Alexa Bliss.
Given her quick rise in the women's division, some fans might think this is too much too soon for the UFC Hall of Famer. She knows more about how professional wrestling on the scale of WWE works than you might expect, though. Speaking to GameSpot while promoting her new film, Mile 22, Rousey makes it clear she has an understanding of the business that many fans--and wrestlers, for that matter--have yet to grasp. "[WWE is] definitely much more similar to, I would say, filming a TV show than to being in a fight," she says. "I think a lot more carries over from fight choreography than actual fighting."
For Rousey, her WWE experience has been a crash course in acting, which she says has helped her become a better performer. Coming into WWE essentially as an outsider has given her unique insight into how the process of being a WWE performer works.
"Usually I don't know what's going to happen until the day of, maybe an hour or two before I go out there," she explains. "So they're like, 'Okay, here's a whole fight scene that you need to memorize right now.' The kind of fight scene that you would spend six weeks or so rehearsing for a movie."
Not only does she have to memorize the choreography she plans to use in the ring, there's also the camera to worry about. While in UFC, finding the camera doesn't matter much, but the same cannot be said of WWE.
"In WWE, I need to know this is the hard [camera] side," she says. "If I'm not facing that side, there isn't already a camera pointed at me. So if I'm doing something that emotionally needs to be registered on my face, I need to hold where I'm at long enough for a handheld person to come over here, and keep my eye on this person, but be aware that this camera came here, and this person got this shot so now I can move on to the next thing."
Then, of course, there's the WWE Universe. When your performing, whether it's a match or a promo, the live audience doesn't bother holding back their opinions. "It really teaches me a lot that I think people wouldn't learn unless performing in front a live audience, [like] how an audience feels about everything that you're doing while you're doing it," she explains. "A lot of times in a movie you just have to guess how the audience will feel in this moment. But when you're out there, it's immediate feedback. I'm out there in front of 30,000 people. And they'll let you know."
With training like what she's getting as a WWE superstar, it's no wonder Rousey is able to rise to the challenge of filming intense action scenes like those in Mile 22. However, it also shows that not everyone is cut out for WWE.
The moment there were rumblings about Rousey potentially joining WWE, the talk among fans was divided as to whether she would flourish as a professional wrestler. When she immediately debuted on Raw, rather than going through WWE's NXT developmental system, the deck was stacked against her. However, her understanding of the product and how she can add to it has brought her great success. And it shows in the WWE Universe's response to her. Unlike the divided reaction Roman Reigns gets anytime he walks into an arena, Rousey is met with near-universal approval.
Truthfully, Rousey is a template for anyone who wants to turn their outside success into WWE stardom. She's cracked the code and it has not only made her a better performer but a better actor in her film and TV projects.
Mile 22 is in theaters on August 17. You can also see Rousey fight for the Raw Women's Championship against Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam on August 19. Before the show, make sure to check out GameSpot's SummerSlam predictions.
With Summerslam right around the corner, what WWE rumors are rumbling along the internet? What are industry insiders or that random crazy person on Twitter saying? It's time, once again, to take a look at what could happen at WWE's next PPV. Where are you going to be on Sunday, August 19? Will you be out in the sun, enjoying a beverage by the beach or will you be inside all day watching a WWE PPV? If you're a wrestling fan, chances are you'll be watching Summerslam on the WWE Network.
For the fourth year in a row, the WWE event--one of the year's biggest--will be taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The show will start at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT with a Kickoff Show starting two hours prior on the WWE Network. This year's event is going to be jam-packed, as there are 12 matches already on the card, and there's a good possibility--if the rumors are correct--there will be even more, which will really screw up our predictions.
And there are plenty of rumors about the show, including the fact that the current card isn't the final card. Here are the Summerslam rumors from industry insiders, but keep in mind that these are just rumors and not confirmations. We'll keep you updated with any more rumors as the week continues.
Longest PPV Ever
This will be one of the longest PPV of the year. Currently, on the WWE Network, the service has 6.5 hours blocked off for Summerslam and the Kickoff show. It could easily run longer than that though, especially if WWE keeps adding matches to the card. Earlier this year, Wrestlemania 34 came in at a little more than 7 hours in total.
Walk With Elias
Although it hasn't been booked yet, you can expect to see a last minute booking of Elias vs. Bobby Lashley, most likely on the Kickoff Show. WWE has been building to a match between the two for weeks and the Kickoff is the only place it fits.
UPDATE 8/14/18: Elias now has a spot on the Summerslam card where he will perform. We expect Lashley to interrupt.
Asuka Didn't Quit
Asuka might be added to the triple threat match for the Smackdown Women's Championship. There have been rumors that she quit the company recently, but those have been put to rest as she'll appear on Smackdown on August 14. (via Slicewrestling)
Return Of The Lunatic Fringe?
Could Dean Ambrose return at Summerslam? He's been on the injured list for quite some time, but he's apparently coming back to WWE sometime soon, possibly just in time for Summerslam. That could mean Seth Rollins could have someone by his side while fighting off Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre. (via PWInsider)
UPDATE 8/14/18: Amborse returned on the August 13 episode of Raw and is back by Seth Rollins' side.
Spicing Up The IC Title Match
Apparently, the only potential match change being mentioned by name right now is Rollins vs. Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship. Could McIntyre and maybe even Ambrose be added to this bout? (via WrestleVotes)
UPDATE 8/14/18: In WWE's promotional images for Summerslam, both Drew McIntyre and Dean Ambrose appear. More than likely, both men will just be in their friends' corners for the match.
More Changes Coming To The Card
Because fans have said the summer event lacks excitement, there is a plan to change the card a bit leading up to Summerlsam. Multiple matches will be affected. (via Cagesideseats)
Daniel Bryan Isn't Going Anywhere
There has been a lot of talk about whether Daniel Bryan will renew his contract with WWE in September. However, with Daniel Bryan being the focus of 2K's next WWE game, it seems likely that Bryan will be working with the company for at least another year.
In GameSpot's interview, Bryan said, "I just don't want things that aren't creatively fulfilling, so I don't care what you do, as long it doesn't put me in this mental funk, where I just feel like, "Oh man, I can't believe I have to do this today." But anything other than that, usually I'm just happy to be back wrestling."
While talking to Bryan, his face lit up while talking about in-ring wrestling and being cleared by doctors in WWE. And he and Miz may not see eye-to-eye on a lot of things in ring or out, but he seems very happy with his current feud with him.
Brock Lesnar's Secret Meeting
This is a rumor no one is excited for. According to Barnburner's Fired Up podcast (via Ringside News), there is a chance Brock Lesnar will stay with WWE. According to the episode, Sunday afternoon, before Summerslam begins, Lesnar will have a meeting with head executives at WWE. While no one truly knows what the meeting is about, Joe Peisich on the episode believes there's a chance he could be working for both WWE and the UFC. Does that mean there's also a chance he could retain the title?
Make sure to come back to GameSpot on Sunday, August 19 for live coverage of Summerslam.
Blizzard has officially confirmed that Diablo 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch. Titled Diablo 3: Eternal Collection, it will feature the original game, alongside the Reaper of Souls expansion, Adventure Mode (fully unlocked from the outset), Challenge Rifts, Kanai's Cube, and the Crusader class. Additionally, it'll also have the Rise of the Necromancer pack, which primarily consists of the Necromancer class. The game does not have a specific release date but Blizzard has said it is tentatively aiming for Fall 2018 with an MSRP of $60 in the US.
The Switch version of Diablo 3 is being developed in-house and utilizes the work done for the well-received PS4 and Xbox One ports of the game. Senior producer Pete Stilwell described the portability that Nintendo Switch offers as a new evolution of the Diablo 3 experience.
"I think this [is] the next evolution. The portability of Switch [and] the ability to play offline with your friends locally between multiple Switch [consoles] is really powerful. We're excited to be able to travel, [play] this on a plane, get off the plane, [and] upload progress."
By utilizing the Nintendo Switch's online service, save files will be automatically uploaded to the cloud, allowing for progress to be backed up and also transferred onto other devices.
"Switch automatically uploads save files. The only thing that won't upload is leaderboards, but anything else such as achievements or progress that's made through campaign will be [uploaded]," explained associate producer Matt Cederquist.
"Another cool feature is the ability to play offline and still have progress count, and you can load your profiles back and forth, so if you're on a buddy's Switch you can load your file and get the character you want in the game too," added Stilwell.
When the console version of Diablo 3 launched, Blizzard implemented a feature that let players transfer characters from PS3 and Xbox 360 to PS4 and Xbox One, respectively. However, this functionality is not going to be available for the Switch version. Cross-platform play will also not be supported. Online multiplayer in the Nintendo Switch version will be up and running when the game comes out and, like uploading saves to the cloud, it will use the Nintendo Switch's paid online service.
In terms of performance, Diablo 3 on Switch will run at 60 frames per second "across the board." In handheld mode the game is displayed at 720p and then flips to 960p when docked.
"That was a huge focus, to make sure we were giving a responsive, awesome gameplay experience and we've managed to achieve that," said Stilwell. "Part of the technology itself changes [depending on whether] you're docked or not. That was one of our learning experiences along the way, dealing with how the architecture changes depending on whether you're docked or mobile. It's just an optimization effort.
"In my mind the only thing that changes is the Switch itself goes from 720p to 960p. You should not be feeling any different; we don't feel anything different ... We for the past couple of months have spent more time just making sure that the game feels as great no matter what controller setup you have, whether you're plugged in or not. Our biggest motivation was to make sure that we weren't giving you an inferior experience."
Diablo 3: Eternal Collection accounts for the various controller configurations available to Switch owners, supporting everything but touch.
"The real power of the Switch is the multiple ways you can play it, whether it's handing your friend a controller and playing on the same Switch at the same time, linking multiple Switches, or going old school and playing it on your TV," said Stilwell. "We're taking full advantage of what Switch has to offer. The responsiveness you get from Diablo with controller is an evolution of the experience from clicking on PC, and we've done the work to get it as playable and as responsive on Switch as any other platform so we're extremely excited about the offering.
"We support everything except for touch at this point," he added. "We did some experiments with touch and we didn't think there was enough compelling reasons to use it in the current state. We felt the controllers were a superior method of controlling the game."
The Switch version also comes with some exclusive goodies for Nintendo fans, including the ability to use the transmogrification feature to turn into The Legend of Zelda villain Ganondorf. You can read all about the Diablo 3 Switch Nintendo tie-ins here.
We're more than halfway through 2018 now, but there are still plenty of games to look forward to this year. While summer has traditionally been a slow period for game releases, August stands as a stark exception to that rule, with a variety of great titles coming to each platform this month, from WarioWare Gold for 3DS to the console release of the critically acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin II and much more.
With so many releases on the way, it can be easy to lose track of all the great games coming over the next few weeks. We've rounded up a list of the biggest games launching this month below to give you a quick glimpse at some of the notable titles in store for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in August 2018. For a look at all of the major games coming throughout the rest of the year, be sure to check out our complete list of game release dates in 2018.
Monster Hunter World (PC) -- August 9
Seven months after it debuted on PS4 and Xbox One, Capcom's acclaimed co-op RPG, Monster Hunter World, finally arrives on PC via Steam on August 9. The game comes with everything that was available when it first launched on consoles, with additional monsters, quests, and other content slated to arrive down the line via free updates. The PC version will also follow a different Event Quest schedule than its console counterparts.
This year's installment in EA's long-running football series, Madden NFL 19, arrives on August 10. The game is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, making it the first entry to release for the latter platform in more than a decade. Along with improved sweat graphics, Madden 19 boasts a new Real Player Motion Technology animation system for even more realistic player movements and introduces some new features to both Franchise and Ultimate Team modes.
World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth (PC) -- August 14
This month sees the arrival of World of Warcraft's seventh expansion, Battle for Azeroth. It lands on August 14, and along with raising the level cap to 120, it shakes the long-running MMO up in some major ways by introducing new continents to explore, raids to undertake, dungeons to plunder, and more. Ahead of its release, Blizzard rolled out a big pre-patch that introduced War Mode and kicked off a questline that sets the stage for the expansion.
The Dreamcast classics Shenmue I & II come to PS4, Xbox One, and PC together in one package this month. While not a proper remaster of the games, the collection does boast some improvements over the originals, including scalable screen resolution, the option to play with either modern or classic control schemes, an updated user interface, and Japanese or English voiceovers. The collection launches on August 21 for the budget price of $30.
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch) -- August 28
While Monster Hunter World is coming to PC, the Nintendo Switch is getting its own Monster Hunter game this month: Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, an expanded version of Generations for 3DS. On top of all of the base content from the original 3DS release, Ultimate introduces new Hunting Styles, monsters, and the even more challenging G Rank quests. Players who have the 3DS game can also transfer their save data to the Switch version.
The second installment in the Yakuza series comes to PS4 this month as Yakuza Kiwami 2. Like the first Kiwami before it, Kiwami 2 is a complete remake of the PS2 title, built using the Dragon Engine that powered the series' latest installment, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. Picking up one year after the events of the original Yakuza, Kiwami 2 finds protagonist Kazuma Kiryu once again caught up in inter-clan drama. The game launches on August 28.
The weekly challenges for Fortnite have been refreshed on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile, which means there's a new batch of Battle Stars to be earned. We've already put together a guide to all the Season 5, Week 6 challenges, along with a walkthrough of how to complete the Search Where The Stone Heads Are Looking challenge. However, there's a second challenge in the latest batch that is a little more difficult than the rest--complete timed trials. But never fear, we've got some tips that will help you through it.
The challenge is exclusive to the paid Battle Pass tier and asks players to complete five timed trials. This is the first challenge of its kind and involves collecting a number timer symbols within a certain location before the allotted time runs out. This is pretty easy on its own, but it's not simply a case of running to them and grabbing them. Some of the timed trials are much easier if you build your way up to the collectible, so you'll need to have resources handy. Others, meanwhile, can be done quicker by using an ATK, which doesn't automatically spawn nearby, so you'll have to hunt for one.
Thankfully, the trials are repeatable, so you can usually take a shot at one, get a feel for where the timer collectibles are placed, and then figure out what you need to get them all. Completing this is very much a case of trial and error, so set aside a little time to work through the process and get it done. Below you can find a map of where we found the Time Trials.
Once you've completed this week's challenges, there's still plenty of Battle Stars left to earn for those who haven't managed to finish previous challenges. To make that easier for you, we've put together a round-up of guides for all Season 5's challenges. Alternatively you can find the specific one you're looking for below.
Developer Epic Games has released the full patch notes for Fortnite update 5.21, which has a couple of new Limited-Time Modes and a new weapon. The two modes include Soaring 50s, where players get to leap and glide around to their heart's content, and Sniper Shootout, a mode where the new Heavy Sniper Rifle weapon can be used to pick off unsuspecting enemies.

We've reached the halfway point of August, which means Xbox Live Gold subscribers have two new games to download for free. The Xbox One freebie you can grab is For Honor, available now through September 15. The Xbox 360 game--which is also playable on Xbox One--is Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, available for free until August 31.
For Honor is an online brawler from Ubisoft. It pits three factions of warriors against one another: knights, samurai, and vikings. Each faction is divided into classes, and each class has its own abilities and fighting style. GameSpot's For Honor review praised the game's deep fighting mechanics for keeping the experience interesting. It's set to receive a big free update this fall that includes an ambitious new castle siege mode.
Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is a platformer that finds the mouse mascot bringing new life to a wasteland by using a magical paintbrush. Unfortunately, this game didn't fare quite so well in our review: "It's simply not worth suffering through hours of punishing game design to discover the occasional moments of nostalgic joy. Sadly, The Power of Two is another failed attempt at revitalizing Mickey's career." Maybe kids will get some fun out of it?
Also available for free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers right now is the 2014 racing game Forza Horizon 2. It's available until the end of the month.

The dinosaurs are back once again, along with Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, and company. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the sequel to 2015's Jurassic World, a resurrection of the series that examines everything that would definitely go wrong if we brought back dinosaurs and used science to make them even better at hunting prey (including humans).
This blockbuster sequel is set to release on digital platforms September 4 and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 18. If you're wondering whether the movie is any good, you can check out GameSpot's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom review. And when you're ready to secure your copy, you'll probably want to know what your options are. Let's break down what comes with the home versions of the movie, where you can pre-order it, and how much it costs. Read on for the details.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Digital Edition
If you want to grab the movie as early as possible, you'll have to go with the digital version. Here's where you can pre-order it now and how much it costs.
If you have a 3D television, you'll probably want to make full use of it by getting the movie in 3D. This version also comes with a standard non-3D Blu-ray as well as a digital copy.
Maybe the new movie isn't enough to satisfy your Jurassic needs. If you want a full collection of Jurassic Park/World films, you can pre-order this set. It comes with the original Jurassic Park trilogy as well as the two movies from the current series.
What's a home version of a movie without bonus features? Some of the bonus features included with home copies of the movie are exclusive to the 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and digital copies. Here they are:
The Kingdom Evolves--Filmmakers discuss how the second chapter in the Jurassic World trilogy pushes the franchise in a new direction.
Return to Hawaii--Cast and crew discuss shooting the film in Hawaii.
Island Action--A behind-the-scenes look at the bunker scene and runaway gyrosphere sequence.
Aboard the Arcadia--Cast and crew discuss working with the animatronic dinosaurs.

Nicknamed Clash, she's described on Rainbow Six Siege's blog as "a Defender from Great Britain. She's a tough police officer who's an expert on mob behavior and snatch-squad tactics. She knows she belongs on the front line and she won't tolerate any nonsense." Clash is the first Rainbow Six Siege Defender to come with a shield, which seems to fully extend and cover her entire body like the Attacker Montagne.
Unlike Montagne, Clash's shield looks lighter, which probably translates into a faster movement speed at the cost of being unable to block powerful explosives. Clash's trailer also suggests she needs both hands to wield her shield, unlike Montagne, Fuze, and Blitz who can hold up their shield with one arm and fire with a pistol from the other. Since she can't use her hands to fire a gun, Clash's shield comes equipped with a taser, which appears powerful enough to launch electricity forward. Whether this taser merely stuns or outright kills hasn't been revealed, but regardless Clash seems to be a support Operator for Defense teams. She acts as a much taller barricade for weak points and can dispense crowd control against aggressive Attackers.
Clash's full reveal, along with the rest of the changes coming to Rainbow Six Siege in Operation Grim Sky, will be announced during Six Major Paris on August 19. The event will be streamed live via Twitch. Rainbow Six Siege is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, and it's playable for free this weekend.
The first season of Iron Fist was a major disappointment compared to the high standards of other Marvel Netflix shows, but hopes are high for Season 2. It hits the streaming service next month, and the first full trailer has been released.
Last month's first teaser hinted that Danny Rand would face a threat from his past, and this new trailer reveals who it is. It's another Iron Fist, known as Steel Serpent, who trained with Danny, and it looks like he will be a real threat to our hero. There's also plenty of action from Colleen Wing, and an appearance of Luke Cage's Misty Knight. Check it out above.
Iron Fist Season 2 stars Finn Jones as Danny, Jessica Henwick as Colleen, plus Simone Missick (Missy), Sacha Dhawan (Steel Serpent), and Alice Eve as the villainous Typhoid Mary. The whole season will be released on Netflix on September 7.
During the Iron Fist panel at last month's San Diego Comic-Con panel, Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb recognized that the second season of Iron Fist needed improvement. He stated that the makers would "up the game" in terms of the show's fight choreography, with Creed and Black Panther choreographer Clayton Barber on board for this season. In addition, the series has a new showrunner, with former Sleepy Hollow executive producer Raven Metzner taking over from Scott Buck.
In related news, the third season of Daredevil is also expected in 2018. Netflix is yet to confirm the release date, but Netflix VP of Original Content Cindy Holland previously told Deadline that Daredevil Season 3 would be a "return to form," without the logistical difficulties of Season 2. "The biggest issue was the timing of production and launching of The Defenders," she said. "We had to shut down all of the shows, so all the actors be available for The Defenders. There is no problem with this season, I think it's fantastic, it's a real return to form in my view."
Anyone who hasn't picked up Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege yet will have a chance to give the online shooter a try for free this weekend. Between now and August 20, anyone with an Xbox One, PS4, or PC can play the full game for free, including all maps, modes, and Operators.
PC players can grab the free version from their Uplay PC Launcher. PS4 owners can also get the trial version from Rainbow Six Siege product page on the PlayStation Store; a PS Plus membership is required to play. Those with an Xbox One can get it from the game's page on the Xbox Store. And for the first time, Xbox One owners don't need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to participate--the free Silver level will suffice. Note that you still need Gold to play if you end up buying it.
If you decide to buy the game, you can pick it up at a discounted rate on the various digital stores for a limited time. Any progress you make during the free weekend will carry over into the full game. Here's the date range for the sale.
PC (Uplay) -- August 16-27
PC (Steam) -- August 16-20
Xbox One -- August 16-27
PS4 -- August 14-25
This is all going on to celebrate the upcoming Year 3, Season 3's Operation Grim Sky, which will be revealed during Six Major Paris August 17-19. The event will be streamed live via Twitch. You can find more information about the free Rainbow Six Siege weekend here.
Gamescom 2018 in Europe may still be a few days away, but EA DICE is giving Battlefield fans something to cheer about early. After previously teasing the video, it has now unveiled the full Gamescom trailer for Battlefield V, coming in October on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It's suitably epic, and may include a tease of the game's anticipated battle royale mode.
The trailer, called Devastation of Rotterdam, shows just that; in a mix of cutscenes and gameplay footage, we see soldiers battling each other (and dodging a lot of gunfire and explosions) on the Dutch city's crumbling streets while a haunting rendition of "House of the Rising Sun" plays in the background. The trailer also shows off tank warfare, both what it's like to control one in the game and what it's like to narrowly escape being blown up by one, and we get a glimpse of air combat.
Battlefield V's developers have promised the game will feature emotional story missions, and no doubt surviving the brutal Battle of Rotterdam (which involved an intense Blitz by German planes) will be one of them. However the map looks like it would certainly lend itself to the game's multiplayer.
The trailer takes an interesting turn towards the end, as well. After the initial part of the video ends, it cuts to shots of a ring of fire quickly closing in on soldiers (and tanks). It's just a short tease, but could be our first glimpse at the game's Battle Royale mode, which EA announced during E3 2018. You can get a look at an aerial shot of the ring of fire below.
We expect to see more about Battlefield V during Gamescom 2018 (and learn more about Battle Royale mode, hopefully). Battlefield V will release on October 19, but purchasing the Deluxe edition will get you access three days early, on October 16. In the meantime, PC players can check out the system requirements for the game, and check out our Battlefield V pre-order guide for more details on all the editions.
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate will release for Nintendo Switch soon, and now Capcom has dropped some news on Twitter via the game's account. It's releasing a free, playable demo of the game on August 16, where you'll get the chance to try all six Hunting Styles and new Prowler abilities. [Update: The demo is now live on the Eshop.]
The full game will release on Switch on August 28, but 3DS players may be very familiar with it. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is an expanded version of the original Monster Hunter Generations, which came out on 3DS in 2015. It includes more content, including two new Hunting Styles (Alchemy and Valor), an additional Elder Dragon, and a new endgame boss. You'll also be able to go on "G Rank" quests identified as "even more formidable versions of familiar foes." The game has already been out in Japan for some time under the name Monster Hunter XX.
If you already own Monster Hunter Generations on 3DS, you'll be able to continue playing with your same hunters by transferring save game data to Ultimate (no word on whether this is possible in the demo). The game also supports four-player multiplayer (local and online), and will make use of the Switch's touchscreen when it's time to unleash a powerful Hunter Art move.
When Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate releases, players will also be able to access special armor based on Link's Champion's Tunic from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and will also be able to craft a Korok costume for your Palico. In other Monster Hunter news, Monster Hunter World just released on PC via Steam, with updates seen in the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game being released gradually.
Patrick Soderlund, EA's chief design officer, is one of its most recognizable executives; from taking the stage at E3 to bearing the brunt of the company's recent lootbox controversy, he has been a major public face for one of the world's largest gaming companies. Now, EA has announced Soderlund is leaving the company and "will begin a new chapter later this year."
Soderlund was formerly the head of DICE, until EA acquired the company in 2006. He has played a key role in developing the Battlefield and Star Wars Battlefront franchises, and is credited with helping spearhead the Frostbite engine, which continues to be used by many of EA's games. "From his early vision for Frostbite, which has now become a cornerstone for our technology strategy, to being a champion for Players First experiences, Patrick has always ensured we put creative at the center of everything we do," said CEO Andrew Wilson in a note announcing Soderlund's departure.
"He has also been unwavering in his commitment to building our pipeline of amazing new games to come, and his fingerprints will be on the experiences that we bring to players well into the future."
The move comes just before Battlefield V releases, a franchise no doubt close to Soderlund's heart, and after a year of controversy surrounding Star Wars Battlefront II. When the game released in November 2017, there was a considerable backlash to the game's lootboxes and progression system, with many accusing EA of making it 'pay-to-win.' Soderlund spoke openly about the controversy after the company pulled in-game transactions altogether, saying EA learned a lesson it wouldn't forget. The game failed to meet sales targets, and Star Wars Battlefront II later reintroduced loot boxes, but for cosmetic items only.
Soderlund leaving will prompt some internal shakeup in the company, as well. "A few teams will move within our organization with this change. The SEED team led by Johan Andersson will join our studios group to continue driving advanced design and innovation at the leading edge of games," said WIlson.
"We're deepening our focus on user experience, and welcoming Jason Wozencroft to our studios to lead a strong, unified UX approach for our games and services. And with new games and content playing a vital role in our networked future, the EA Originals and EA Partners teams led by Rob Letts will join our Strategic Growth group." Wilson also highlighted the company's focus on its subscriptions services, saying EA is pushing forward to offer access to "more great games and content through our industry-leading subscription services."
There's no word yet as to what we'll see next from Patrick Soderlund as he takes on this "new chapter" later this year.
There's less than a month to go until Marvel's Spider-Man, the latest action game in the iconic franchise, hits PS4, and now we're getting a look at the full gameplay trailer. In the video above, we see Spider-Man swinging through the city, smashing through windows, dodging explosions, and of course, fighting his many, many enemies.
The trailer shows off some of Peter Parker's more incredible aerial feats, like attempting to stop a helicopter from crashing and facing off against foes on rooftops high in the sky. Early impressions of gameplay, like those from our own GameSpot crew's playthrough, are very positive: web slinging and parkour feel as great as they look, and so does a combat system that's easy to pick up but also complex enough to reward experimentation.
This latest Spider-Man will take the classic character's story in an original direction, not based on an existing comic, film, or game. You play as both Peter Parker and his superhero alter-ego, and must defend New York City from a super villain threat. Gameplay takes place in an open-world setting, and you will also have the opportunity to play as MJ. In this game, she is an investigative journalist, and in at least one mission you switch back and forth between her and Peter to successfully take out a big time crime boss. Read more about GameSpot's early MJ gameplay impressions.
Marvel's Spider-Man releases exclusively for PS4 on September 7. There are several options to buy, complete with pre-order bonuses including a Spidey Suit Pack and extra Skill Points (which allow you to unlock abilities from the start of the game like active finishers, web grab, or faster web swinging). There is a Standard Edition, a Digital Deluxe Edition, and a Collector's Edition, each one with more goodies inside. If you want to go all out, there's also a whole Spider-Man-themed PS4 Pro setup with 1TB of space. Check out our full roundup of ordering options, and watch GameSpot's full Spider-Man GamePlay impressions.
Lara Croft's origins trilogy comes to a close with Shadow of the Tomb Raider where she's now hunting down the villainous organization known as Trinity, instead of piecing together their motives and escaping their grasp. The new game doesn't stray too far from what you've come to expect from this current era of Tomb Raider, though--beginning with the reboot in 2013 and the follow-up, Rise of the Tomb Raider. We spent about four hours with Shadow of the Tomb Raider at a preview event, and while we hoped some minor flaws would be addressed this time around, the best parts of the series' formula still shine through.
You can count on an action-adventure game about seeking ancient relics to bring you on a tour of exotic locations. The lush vegetation of Central and South America provides some wonderful exploration through branching paths and optional side quests, and makes the tried-and-true process of discovery feel refreshing. The dense foliage affords some creative approaches in combat like covering yourself up in mud to blend in or using overgrown vegetation as cover.
The tropical setting isn't solely tourist eye-candy either. One of the game's early hub areas, a Peruvian village called Kuwaq Yaku, showcases the rough nature of a small community holding itself together. We wish the expansive main hub Paititi was playable in the demo, because it's promising to see Shadow of the Tomb Raider create a more vibrant world than past games, with culture and society now a large part storytelling.
Puzzles have been a highlight of Tomb Raider, and the clever solutions that accompany them let you flex your mental prowess. Although the rewards don't seem too gratifying early on in Shadow, the process of unraveling the sequence of steps is the fun part. The fluidity of movement and combat is still intact, too. Slipping into cover at the last second or lining up an arrow for a kill just before getting spotted remains satisfying. However, if either aspect gives you too much trouble, the game allows you to tweak the difficulty of combat, puzzles, and exploration separately. Puzzle and exploration difficulty in particular affect the number of visual cues on screen, while combat difficulty affects enemy health and damage and resource availability.
Unfortunately, enemy behavior still leaves a bit to be desired. They'll often walk into dubious situations that are easy to exploit. One sequence allowed me to pull off a series of stealth kills off the ledge of a boardwalk since each enemy saw suspicious activity in my area. Patrol patterns and enemy placement don't offer much of a challenge, with many guards conveniently having their backs turned to Lara. We expect the action to ramp up, but there just isn't enough to chew on in the early stages.
Moments of close calls have gotten pretty stale in action-adventure games. The cliche of escaping death at the very last second to keep up the intensity would be fine if it was saved for key moments, but when they become too frequent--especially as a narrative device--it gets predictable. Shadow is filled with these close calls, even in the opening hours, and its effectiveness in ratcheting up tension wears thin. Even during normal gameplay, Lara will occasionally slip while scaling walls or jumping to ledges in which a QTE button prompt is your savior. Thankfully, an early ability that costs one skill point negates this altogether.
We had previously seen the early chapter that takes place during Day of the Dead festivities in Conzumel, Mexico, which was part of this hands-on demo session. After Lara swoops in on an ancient artifact that's said to cause a catastrophe, a flood consumes the entire village, leaving several dead and many more in a state of crisis. Although Lara's companion Jonah scolds her for not even considering the situation at hand, the consequences of her actions aren't really felt in that moment. In the context of a campaign where you're essentially racking up a body count, this may not seem like a big deal, but even a hardened Lara might want to reflect on a foreign town's destruction. The loss of lives feels like an afterthought, but we can assume that Lara's focused on the bigger stakes since Trinity escapes with this mysterious artifact. It remains to be seen how she'll internalize these events and if this will come back to haunt her as the story progresses.
If you've been a fan of the franchise's new direction this generation, you'll be happy to know the formula remains strong, though not without some lingering issues. Lara's latest adventure appears to be taking on a darker tone, and hopefully that comes with narrative surprises. You can experience it for yourself when Shadow of the Tomb Raider launches for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on September 14.
There have been rumors that HBO was considering picking up a new version of the Watchmen series, adapted for TV, for some time. Now, the company has announced it has officially green lit the show, which is being written and produced by Damon Lindelof, the co-creator of Lost and films like Star Trek Into Darkness and Prometheus. There aren't many details on the series yet, but we know it will debut in 2019.
"Set in an alternate history where 'superheroes' are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own," HBO wrote in a blog post, confirming the story will start at the beginning of the comic series, while introducing some new elements at the same time. Earlier this year, Lindelof took to Instagram explaining why the series wouldn't be a sequel or a reboot.
"Those issues are sacred ground and will not be retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted," he said. "They will however be remixed. We are not making a 'sequel' either. This story will be set in the world its creators painstakingly built… but in the tradition of the work that inspired it, this new story must be original. It has to vibrate with the seismic unpredictability of its own tectonic plates," he continued.
"It must ask new questions and explore the world through a fresh lens. Most importantly, it must be contemporary. The Old Testament was specific to the Eighties of Reagan and Thatcher and Gorbachev. Ours needs to resonate with the frequency of Trump and May and Putin and the horse that he rides around on, shirtless. And speaking of Horsemen, The End of the World is off the table… which means the heroes and villains--as if the two are distinguishable--are playing for different stakes entirely."
Watchmen first made it to the screen in 2009, when Zach Snyder adapted the graphic novel for film. HBO tried unsuccessfully to get a TV series based on the story off the ground in 2014. Lindelof has a history with HBO; his acclaimed drama The Leftovers was also shown on the network, recently ending with its third and final season.
First published by DC in 1986, Watchmen is a much-loved and celebrated 12-part graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. It's credited with introducing a darker and more mature tone to the traditional superhero comic. In 2005, it was even featured on Time's list of the 100 greatest novels of the 20th century.
