At Gamescom 2018, Nvidia held a press conference to announce and detail its next generation of video cards, which will launch on September 20, 2018 with three models: the GeForce RTX 2070 ($500 USD), RTX 2080 ($700), and RTX 2080 Ti ($1000). These new cards use the Turing GPU architecture and boast the ability to perform ray tracing technology (or RTX for short, hence the card names).
Nvidia's presentation included live in-game demonstrations of ray tracing in action from Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Metro: Exodus, Assetto Corsa, and Battlefield V. In short, ray tracing technology is capable of more realistic global illumination and accurate projections of ambient light, and affords the ability to efficiently calculate the reflections and light sources that exist outside of the screen space. For ray tracing specifically, the Turing architecture is four times faster than Volta-based workstation GPUs and ten times faster than the current Pascal GTX 10-series--not to be confused with overall performance outside of ray tracing.
It's been over two years since the current generation of Nvidia's graphics cards were released. The GTX 10-series (Pascal) first hit the market in May 2016 with intermittent releases of different models afterward. AMD released its RX Vega line of cards in August last year, which competed with the GTX 10-series.
You can get a small taste of what to expect from real-time ray tracing in the video below, which shows it both enabled and disabled in Battlefield V.
Real-time ray tracing is coming to #BattlefieldV with GeForce RTX.
Most PC gamers are probably aware of the Humble Monthly gaming subscription. For $12 per month, you get a monthly bundle of games worth over $100. The catch is that some of the games you'll get are a mystery until after you've already paid. But as an assurance, you always get to unlock at least one game early. For the September 2018 Humble Bundle, you actually get a choice. You can either unlock Rise of the Tomb Raider or a trio of games: Sniper Elite 4, Tales of Berseria, and Staxel.
Rise of the Tomb Raider has appeared in Humble Monthly before, but if you haven't played it, it's a good choice. Not only is it an excellent game (see our 9/10 Rise of the Tomb Raider review), but you'd probably have time to finish it before Shadow of the Tomb Raider comes out on September 14. In either case, a handful of additional games will be revealed at the end of the month (though occasionally a game or two will unlock a couple weeks in).
The games come in the form of Steam codes that are saved in your Humble account. Unlike some other game subscription services, you get to keep and play your Humble Monthly games forever, whether you have an active subscription or not.
Humble Monthly subscribers get a number of additional bonuses as well. All active subscribers get 10% off every game in the Humble Store and access to subscriber-only deals. You also get access to the Humble Trove, a collection of mostly well-received indie games you can play as long as your subscription lasts. You get slightly better deals for subscribing for three or six months at a time. Subscribe for a full year, and you get a free month. Plus, 5% of Humble's proceeds go to charity.
All in all, Humble Monthly is one of the best deals in PC gaming. And with a choice of early unlocks for September, you have more control than usual over which games you receive.
August is here, which means Amazon/Twitch Prime members can now grab the latest batch of free games from Twitch. Between August 1-31, Prime members can download seven games: Antihero, Death Squared, Jotun: Valhalla Edition, SteamWorld Dig, and a bundle that contains Wizardry 6, 7, and 8. That's a generous lineup, particularly after we got 21 games in July.
To get the games, you first have to link your Amazon Prime and Twitch accounts. Once you do, head to Twitch.tv on a desktop computer and click the crown icon near the search bar. There you'll find a dropdown menu with buttons to claim the games for free. They're yours to keep forever, even if you cancel Amazon Prime down the line. All you need is the Twitch desktop app to install them.
The games themselves were mostly well-received when they came out. Much like the recent God of War, Jotun: Valhalla Edition takes place in the realm of Norse mythology. You play as Thora, a warrior who must explore the frigid world and solve puzzles to prove her worth to the gods. In SteamWorld Dig, you explore a massive underground world, fighting enemies and collecting valuable treasure to help you upgrade your abilities. Finally, the Wizardry Bundle contains the "Dark Savant" trilogy of first-person RPGs.
Antihero is set in in the Victorian underworld, where you're tasked with assembling a thief's guild. It's a turn-based strategy game in which you convince criminals and street urchins straight out of Dickens to join your criminal empire. Puzzle fans may enjoy Death Squared, a co-op game that has you moving colorful cubes around a dense map.
In addition to games, Twitch Prime members also get ad-free viewing on Twitch, a free channel subscription every 30 days, and free in-game loot for titles like Fortnite and Call of Duty: WWII.
Sony has reached an impressive milestone: in the 24 years since the original PlayStation launched in Japan in December of 1994, the company has sold over 500 million PlayStation consoles (525.3 million, to be exact). To celebrate, Sony's releasing the PS4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition. It's a new translucent dark blue version of the console that will be limited to 50,000 units worldwide. It will be available on August 24.
The PS4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition comes with a DualShock 4 controller with the same translucent blue shell, a 2TB hard drive, vertical stand, and PlayStation Camera. The front of each system will have a commemorative copper plate with its unique serial number etched on it. Some will have "extra special" serial numbers like 09995 (U.S. Launch Date of the original PlayStation: September 9th, 1995), 01115 (U.S. launch date of PS4: November 15, 2013) and 01013 (U.S. launch date of PS VR: October 13, 2016). It will sell for $500 / £450.
The 500 Million Limited Edition DualShock 4 will be available as a standalone item for $65 / £55 on August 24. Additionally, you'll be able to buy a 500 Million Limited Edition Gold Wireless Headset with the same translucent blue design and copper detailing for $100 / £78 on September October 11 in Europe.
Pre-orders for the PS4 Pro will be available in Europe on August 14 from retailers including Amazon UK, Game, Smyths, ShopTo, and Very. There's no word yet about US pre-orders. Sony says that all of the items will be available in very limited quantities, so don't be surprised if you have a hard time finding them in stock.
The 525.3 million sales figure includes PlayStation, PS2, PSP, PSP Go, PS3, PS Vita, PS Vita TV, and PS4. The hardware that contributed most to that figure is the PS2, which is also the bestselling console of all time. Since its release in 2000, the PS2 has sold over 155 million units. The PS4 is no slouch, though, as it has shipped roughly 82 million units and counting.
Some of the casting scripts for Netflix's upcoming TV show based on The Witcher have leaked, though you shouldn't get too excited. The scripts that leaked are for the purposes of casting, so the dialogue is unlikely to be featured in the actual show. These scripts, called "Sides" in the TV casting parlance, are given to potential actors to see what they're capable of. The casting scripts that leaked involve a pair of scenes with Geralt and Yennefer. These may be lines and scenarios that won't be in the final TV show, but this is the first time we're getting an understanding of the show's writing style and more.
Some took issue with the way in which Geralt speaks to Yennefer. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich defended the writing, saying on Twitter, "We write scenes to evoke specific emotional reactions in actors. Ego, jealousy, confidence, pain, pleasure. We need to see the full spectrum."
And again, she pointed out that what is written for the casting scripts is not what you'll see and hear on the show itself. Hissrich also said she expected the casting scripts to leak. "It happened. As we knew it would. Don't worry. All is okay in the Witcher world," she said.
Remember when I said that casting sides would leak and not to worry because they are not real scenes or scenarios or even storylines from the show? It happened. As we knew it would. Don't worry. All is okay in the #Witcher world.
It's fascinating to watch the PASSIONATE debate about Geralt's and Yen's thoughts/emotions/intentions on the casting sides. Everything from "this reads like canon" to "Geralt would NEVER say that word." I only hope #Witcher fans are as invested in the, you know, actual series.😊
Hissrich said previously that the Witcher show is expected to premiere in 2020. "We're moving quickly ahead with everything--like, my head is spinning around Exorcist-style, except with enthusiasm, not evil possession--but one thing is certain: quality comes before speed," she said.
The latest instalment in the Witcher video game series was 2015's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. No new projects in the series have been announced. CD Projekt Red is currently working on the much-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077; and more Witcher games could follow after that.
Monster Hunter World has now shipped more than 10 million units, including digitally delivered units. The new sales milestone comes shortly after the game's release on PC in early August. This is up from the 7.9 million unit shipment tally that Capcom announced in May.
Capcom also confirmed that the entire Monster Hunter franchise has now sold more than 50 million combined units as of August 20. The franchise debuted in 2004.
Monster Hunter: World is the "best-selling title" in Capcom's history. While the PC launch helped the game pass 10 million units, Capcom said the title continues to see "robust sales" on console. It is also available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, having launched on console in January.
Far Cry 5's next expansion, Dead Living Zombies, will launch on August 28, Ubisoft has announced. The expansion sees players meet up with "D-tier" film director Guy Marvel who has a number of ideas for an "epic zombie saga." You will play seven different "film scenarios," which are maps made using Far Cry 5's Arcade Editor tools.
As you'd imagine, you will be fighting against "hordes of undead" in all manner of different environments. Once you beat each map, you'll unlock a Score Attack mode. If you get a 3-star rating you'll get weapons and gear that you can use in the story mode.
The Dead Living Zombies expansion costs $7 on its own, while it's also included with Far Cry 5's $30 DLC Pass. You don't have to pay to get new stuff, however, as Ubisoft is adding more scripting tools and destructible objects, as well as "more new assets," to the free Far Cry 5 map-editor in the next title update.
Dead Living Zombies is the third and final Far Cry 5 expansion, following the previously released Hours of Darkness and Lost on Mars. You can watch a trailer for Dead Living Zombies in the embed above; there is only a very brief gameplay segment, right at the end.
Part of what makes Fortnite great is that it gets new skins, gear, and emotes all the time. One of the newly released pieces of equipment is a cow bell emote, only it's not called that.
In keeping with Fortnite's fascination with Llamas, developer Epic Games has released a "Llama Bell" emote in Fortnite. "Distract your opponents with more Llama Bell," Epic wrote about it. You can purchase the Llama Bell emote right now from Fortnite's in-game store.
As you can see, this Llama Bell emote is very clearly a re-creation of Will Ferrell's dance from the famous 2000 Saturday Night Live"More Cowbell" sketch.
In other Fortnite news, the game's latest update, 5.21, was released last week. It added a new mode called Soaring 50s and brought back the Sniper Shootout mode. Additionally, Epic added a new, mega-powerful weapon in the form of the Heavy Sniper. For lots more, you can read the full patch notes here and our impressions piece about the good and the bad of the update.
It's the end of the road for Microsoft's racing game Forza Horizon 2. Microsoft has announced that the 2014 racing game will be removed from the Xbox Store on September 30. As part of the game reaching "end of life" status, all of its DLC will also be yanked.
If you already own the game, you can still play it, while you'll also be able to re-download it should you need to delete it to clear up space. It's not immediately clear if Forza Horizon 2's online services will remain available after the game is removed from sale.
Microsoft did not say why it is removing Forza Horizon 2 from the Xbox Store, but there is a pattern for "sunsetting" the Horizon games. Microsoft de-listed Forza Horizon 1 back in 2016, which was four years after it was initially released in 2012. Whatever the case, you should absolutely go download Forza Horizon 2 now, as it's free for Xbox Live Gold members currently.
Forza Horizon 3 remains available to buy from the Xbox Store. The next entry, Forza Horizon 4, launches in early October for Xbox One and PC. It's developed by Playground Games, a UK studio that made the earlier titles; it was recently acquired by Microsoft.
During Gamescom 2018, Activision announced the official release date and a new edition for From Software's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The Collector's Edition of Sekiro will release alongside the normal version on March 22, 2019.
"We can't wait for fans to finally get their hands on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice," said Steve Young, chief revenue officer at Activision. "Fans will get a taste of the multiple tools available for the prosthetic shinobi arm this week at Gamescom, and will be able to fully dive into the brutal, dark world of 1500s Sengoku Japan when the game launches [this March]."
Sekiro's Collector's Edition includes the full game contained in a steelbook case, as well as a 7" shinobi statue, art book, physical map, digital soundtrack, and replica game coins. It is now available for pre-order.
Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki--who previously oversaw Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Dark Souls 3--Sekiro is a third-person, action-adventure RPG that borrows many of its mechanics from the Soulsborne games. Sekiro adds a few new features to the fan-favorite formula, the most notable of which is the ability to die twice by quickly resurrecting from a hasty death. Sword combat has also received a few changes by incorporating both Prosthetic Tools, such as the Grappling Hook, and special Sword Arts to supplement regular attacks.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
When it comes to colorful game controllers, you might think Microsoft has the market cornered with its Xbox Design Lab, which lets you go nuts with color customization. But PlayStation 4 owners who want to add a splash of color to their gaming rigs aren't left in the cold. You can already find a variety of DualShock 4 controllers in colors beyond the standard black, and starting in September, Sony will add four new colorful designs.
The new controllers will sell for $65 ($75 CAD) each at participating retailers. Pre-orders are not yet live but will be available sometime before the controllers release. European customers will get three of the new designs starting in October.
Two of the new colors are notably bolder than the ones Sony has released in the past. While nearly all of the currently available DualShock 4 colors are monochromatic, these will feature two combinations of eye-catching colors. One is a light blue and maroon design called Berry Blue. The other is an orange and navy blue design, called Sunset Orange. The Sunset Orange controller will not release in Europe.
A Blue Camo controller is also on the way, featuring hidden DualShock 4 camouflage shapes. It's similar to the Green Camo model that's already available for $47. The only monochromatic addition is the Copper DualShock 4. In the US, it will be a GameStop exclusive at first, before becoming available at other retailers later. It's similar to the Gold and Silver models available now for $47 each.
Other recent additions to the DualShock 4 lineup include Midnight Blue and Steel Black, both of which debuted in March. Also coming in September is the $200 Scuf Vantage PS4 controller. It's similar to the Xbox One Elite controller in that it offers programmable buttons and paddles on the back for quicker button access.
While the first two seasons of Stranger Things debuted a year apart, fans will have to wait until summer 2019 for Season 3 of Netflix's hit sci-fi thriller. However, David Harbour, who plays cop Jim Hopper in the series, has been speaking about what fans can expect from Season 3, and its unlikely influences.
As reported by Variety, Harbour appeared at a post-screening Q&A and revealed that although Season 3 would be "darker" than the previous two, one movie that had been a big influence on creators Matt and Ross Duffer was the classic 1985 comedy Fletch, starring Chevy Chase.
"The Duffers are so specific each year with the movies," he said. "And Fletch is one movie we get to play around and have some fun with this season, which you wouldn't expect from Stranger Things and you wouldn't expect from the Spielberg universe and you certainly wouldn't expect from a darker season."
In Fletch, Chase plays a unscrupulous journalist who adopts multiple guises in order to investigate a mystery. While Harbour didn't provide any more details about how Fletch might have influenced Stranger Things Season 3, we do know that Jake Busey plays a journalist that Netflix previously described as a "corrupt and sexist news reporter."
In addition, Harbour hinted at what's in store for his character, in particular his relationship with the powerful Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown), who he looks after. "Their relationship is going to get far more complex, because, you know, things happen to girls and boys when they're 13 and 14," he said. "A lot of changes go on in the body and in your social life, and I don't think he's going to handle watching her become a woman in front of his eyes very well. That's a horrifying thing for him--maybe even more so than fighting inter-dimensional monsters."
The 2019 release date for Stranger Things Season 3 was confirmed last month at the TV Critics Association press tour. The first teaser was revealed, and Netflix programming boss Cindy Holland explained that one of the reasons for the delay is the amount of special effects required. "It's a handcrafted show," she said. "The Duffer Brothers and [producer] Shawn Levy--they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than last year. I think it's going to be a fantastic season. It will be worth the wait. It's a really exciting season, just takes a little more time."
From Software, the makers of Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series, have a new game in the works--and it looks surprisingly different from those recent games. It's called Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and you play as the "one-armed wolf," a nimble warrior who has pledged to protect a young lord in 1500s Japan. When the lord gets kidnapped, it's your job to get him back using stealth and prosthetic tools to take down enemies. The game doesn't launch until March 22, 2019, but you can pre-order it now.
If you're ready to do so, you'll probably want to know where it's available, how much it costs, and what comes with it. Read on for everything we know so far about pre-ordering Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
No Pre-Order Bonus Announced Yet
We don't have any information on pre-order bonuses for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice yet. As the release date nears, it's possible From Software will announce something. If it does, we'll put it here.
Pre-Order Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Standard Edition
Similarly, no special editions of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice have been announced, so your only pre-order option at the moment is the standard edition. If new editions are announced in the future, we'll add them below. In the meantime, here's where you can pre-order the game and how much it costs.
Pre-Order Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Collector's Edition
It's not available for pre-order yet, but the Collector's Edition comes with the game, a 7-inch Shinobi statue, a steelbook, collectible artbook, map, digital soundtrack, and replica game coins. We'll update this article when this edition becomes available.
An anticipated update for PS4's God of War launches today, August 20. Its biggest feature is the introduction of New Game Plus mode, although that's not all it has in store--it also includes some changes for those who have not yet completed their initial playthrough. [Update: The update is now live on PSN.]
New Game Plus is the headliner, and it allows you to play through the game again from the start, but with access to your various unlocks, abilities, and weapons. That's particularly notable, because it means you'll have both weapons right out of the gate.
When starting New Game Plus, you'll be able to select a new difficulty; you aren't tied to the choice from your previous playthrough. There's a variety of new and different challenges, like timed Realm Tears, altered attack patterns for enemies, and more.
There is actually new content to check out in New Game Plus, as you'll be able to forge new armor for both Kratos and Atreus. Developer Sony Santa Monica teases this includes "some with exciting new gameplay abilities, such as a chest piece which creates massive explosions whenever Health or Rage stones are stomped on." There are also enhanced versions of armor and other items, with a new rarity level--Perfect--you can upgrade to by getting your hands on a new resource called Skap Slag.
By starting New Game Plus, you'll receive a new shield skin. Finish the mode on Give Me God of War+ difficulty and you'll also unlock a second exclusive shield skin.
In terms of what's changed even for those not playing in New Game Plus, you can now skip any cinematic, provided you've finished the game once. Additionally, you can more easily switch armor, as a button has been added that lets you easily transfer your enchantments. And finally, there have been quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. We did not receive a comprehensive list of these, but they include improving the Wrath of the Frost Ancient Runic attack and changing Parry Attacks to protect Kratos from damage "at all times."

Microsoft has been saying for years now that it wants to get away from numbered Halo games, but some fans were still left scratching their heads when the new game was revealed at E3 as Halo: Infinite and not Halo 6. Now, 343's Jeff Easterling has spoken up to stress that Halo: Infinite is Halo 6, even if it's not specifically called that.
"It is Halo 6," Easterling said during a recent Mixer broadcast. "You should just consider it Halo 6. Don't think of it as a weird prequel kind of thing. It's the next story. It's the next chapter in what is going on."
Studio head Chris Lee already confirmed that Halo: Infinite is a direct sequel to 2015's Halo 5: Guardians. It's also been confirmed that the new game will focus more on Master Chief, which is notable because Halo 5 split time between Chief and Agent Locke.
It's good to hear 343 start to talk about what Halo: Infinite is, but we still have so much more we want to know. While the trailer at E3 was impressive, it was for the new game engine, Slipspace, and not the game itself. Microsoft has not yet shown any gameplay. There are also rumours that the game will release in at least two parts, with single-player arriving at the end of 2019 followed by multiplayer in 2020. None of this is confirmed at this point, however.
Intriguingly, 343 has said that the studio is "making changes to how we approach things" with Halo: Infinite. 343 is also hoping to take players to "new and unexpected directions" with the game. These vague statements could mean a number of things, and the possibilities are exciting to think about. It seems encouraging that 343 isn't rushing things with Halo: Infinite, and while that game might not be out soon, Halo 5 and Halo: MCC continue to get new updates and refreshes on a semi-regular basis.
Set for release later this fall, Blizzard's legendary action-RPG series will be making its Nintendo debut in the form of Diablo III: Eternal Collection. As the most complete version of the long-evolving title, this will mark the first time where players can engage in the series' slash-and-loot gameplay on the go, with the treasure falling in droves and legions of monsters swarming en masse. As the first Blizzard game released on a Nintendo platform in 15 years, the upcoming release of Diablo III is a strong way for the publisher to make its return. Shortly before its reveal, we had the chance to go hands-on with the game and chat with Blizzard about the development of the Switch port.
As a refresher, Diablo III on console is quite different compared to the original PC release. With a totally redesigned control scheme, along with an added dodge move for characters, Diablo III on consoles retains the focus on fast and class-focused action-RPG gameplay while presenting a different take on the series' particular style of combat. While far more accessible compared to its PC counterpart, the console version totally stands side-by-side with the original, making for two unique editions of the Diablo III experience. The Eternal Collection for Switch features all of the game's existing content--which includes the base game with all its revamped content, the Reaper of Souls expansion, the new Necromancer class, and the ongoing Season events.
Speaking with senior producer Pete Stilwell, he detailed the project's beginnings, and what was needed to adapt the game to the new hardware.
"We were essentially sitting around and talking about projects that would be amazing and additive to what the company has, and maybe even trailblaze some new things," said the producer, who previously worked on StarCraft: Remastered. "The Switch was a thing we were all playing, and something we were all interested in. We thought of it as something sweet to bring [Diablo III] onto, and then we started experimenting with the Switch and then got to talking with Nintendo--where we believed that it would be feasible and fun to play on. We wanted to guarantee that it would be smooth and responsive, to ensure that it was everything that you wanted it to be for an [action RPG]."
With the Eternal Collection on Switch, the port takes advantage of the console's functionality and portability, while still retaining the core aspects of the Diablo experience. Running at 60 frames per-second both docked and undocked--rendered at 720p resolution in handheld mode and at 960p when docked--the game runs well on the modest platform, which has managed to prove time and again that it can handle ports of titles from more powerful platforms. While there are some noticeable drops in graphical quality, such as the textures appearing somewhat muddy and less detailed compared to other releases, Diablo III on Switch is a consistent and smooth experience--especially during its hectic, screen-filling battles.
One of the most interesting features to come with the Eternal Collection is the drop-in co-op play via LAN, without the need for an online connection. Players with their own devices nearby, or playing off a single Switch with Joy-Cons and controllers, can sync up with others and drop into games on the fly. However, if you're not able to find others nearby, online co-op via Battle.net is still an option.
During our session, we got to engage in a game of couch co-op play with three different Switch units. It felt incredibly organic diving into a game with a nearby player, and it will no doubt be one of the Switch version's most defining features. With the expectation that players will be on the move when playing Diablo III, the developers added in offline saves and stat-tracking, which are uploaded to the cloud when players have their Battle.net accounts synced up to their game. The majority of the game can be played offline; however, participating in the ongoing Season event will require online play.
Much like other Switch ports, such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the new release also takes the liberty to add in some Nintendo-themed content. We saw an early look of the new armor sets for the Barbarian and Crusader, which players can acquire by visiting the transmog vendor to turn their gear into items belonging to Ganondorf. The Dark Lord's armor pulls from his Twilight Princess incarnation--which fits well into the Diablo aesthetic. Furthermore, players can also acquire a unique Tri-Force portrait emblem for their character, along with a pet Cuckoo that will follow their character into battle.
Diablo III has continually gotten better with age, and experiencing it in this new format was a fresh way to dive back into the dungeon-crawler. The Eternal Collection doesn't look to reinvent things in a big way, and it's largely what you might expect from a Switch port, but the small changes and additions play well to the console's strengths. Though the exact release date is still unknown at this time, it's reassuring to see that the port is in great shape--which will it yet another in a long line of solid ports for Nintendo's console.
From Software's mysterious stealth focused action-adventure, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, will no doubt be a big change of pace for fans of the stoic Souls series. While we're still largely in the dark about how the new game will fit the developer's familiar Souls formula into the mold of a stealth-action game, we at least know when we can get our hands on the full game. Releasing next year on March 22, the Dark Souls developer's new take on the stealth-action sub-genre will make its debut on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Published by Activision, From Software's next game was first teased last year at The Game Awards, showing off a cryptic trailer featuring a prosthetic arm and the eerie text 'Shadows Die Twice'. During E3 2018, Oscar Dayus got to check out an early glimpse of game shortly after its unveiling at the Microsoft Xbox Conference, and learned a bit more about what to expect from the Dark Souls developer's new IP.
From the official press release, the publisher offered a brief description of the game's narrative:
Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a single-player game that puts players in the protagonist role of a hard-hearted warrior whose mission is to rescue his master, a young lord, and exact revenge on his arch nemesis. Players will enjoy combining features, such as vertical traversal, with visceral head-to-head battle to fulfill their destiny in a vast world filled with beautiful vistas, enormous castles, bizarre weaponry, and fearsome enemies.
The more I learn about Sekiro, the more I'm entranced by it. It'll be interesting to see just how much From Software has learned from the Souls series and Bloodborne, and how they'll inject the uncompromising design they've refined over years into an different beast. It's especially encouraging to hear that Hidetaka Miyazaki will be directing the game as well, who's been at the forefront of From Software's major shift into AAA development over the last ten years.
For more info on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, including our hands-on impressions, check back with GameSpot this week as we dive into all the latest coming in from GamesCom 2018.
The Castlevania throwback Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has been delayed into 2019, and the Vita version has been cancelled. The game apparently needs another layer of polish, and the Vita is on its way out so that version is no longer viable.
Director Koji Igarashi made the pair of announcements in a backer update on Kickstarter. He said that the recent Beta Backer demo provided some valuable feedback and showed the team needs to raise the quality level. Meanwhile, Sony has discontinued Vita support, including stopping some online store features, so that version is being scrapped entirely. Backers who requested a Vita version can request a refund or choose another version.
"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment, but rest assured we are working harder than ever to deliver the game we all made happen together, please bear with us for a little longer and I thank you for your continued support," Igarashi said in the statement.
If you just can't wait to dive into the world of Bloodstained, though, you already have one avenue available. The 8-bit throwback Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is already available, and we found it to be a clever and reverent homage to the classic series.
[Update] Steam.tv has been taken offline and, in a statement to CNET, a Valve representative said it was meant to be an internal test and was made publicly accessible by accident. "We are working on updating Steam Broadcasting for the Main Event of The International, Dota 2's annual tournament," the company explained. "What people saw was a test feed that was inadvertently made public," said the company."
[Original story] Valve, which runs digital game distribution platform Steam, has launched Steam.tv, a video streaming portal that could be direct competition to Twitch and YouTube. Steam.tv is currently showing Dota 2's The International, with no option to watch any other games or stream to the service yet. However, it's likely that both of these features will be introduced in the near future.
Once logged in, Steam.tv displays the new Steam Chat introduced recently and allows users to invite friends to join and view the video feed together. Although the site is currently a bit unstable, CNET has managed to explore some of the other functionality available. It reports that Steam.tv has built-in voice chat on Google Chrome, but this doesn't seem to work on Firefox or Edge.
At the time of writing, Valve hasn't publicly acknowledged the launch of Steam.tv, opting instead to quietly make it live. Given the size of Steam's user base and the fact that Steam is currently the leading digital game storefront, it makes sense that Valve would want to give Steam users a place to stream games or watch others do so. Although Twitch and YouTube are the go to services for game streaming, challengers have started to appear, most notably Microsoft's Mixer service and now Steam.tv.
Steam is also facing competition when it comes to the sale of games, with Discord--already incredibly popular service for chatting while playing games--recently announcing it will start selling games, and even for some with an exclusivity period. Major publishers like Bethesda, meanwhile, are also starting to distance themselves from Valve's platform. Fallout 76 will be distributed through Bethesda's own service first, instead on Steam.
The recent Steam Chat launch introduced new grouping features, a Favorites tag, and also revealed more details on what friends doing. Friends will now automatically be grouped by game and by party, which makes it easier play with them. The dedicated friends menu will display specific details about what exactly friends are doing in a game too. Additionally, group chats can be pulled together much easier now. You can read more about the Steam Chat update here.
The evening of August 19 had some benchmark moments for WWE during its PPV Summerslam. Over the course of the evening, GameSpot covered the event live, and you can see all the results below. The six hour long event--including the Kickoff Show--took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and had 13 matches during the evening.
There were two major title changes during the evening. One former UFC fighter lost his championship after a long reign, and another former UFC fighter won her first WWE championship. Neither of those matches were exceptionally great, but they still got the crowd pumped. Check out the full results below and our review of Summerslam.
Original story below.
You can watch the show on the WWE Network, but if you don't have a subscription to it, or you're too busy to watch it live, GameSpot will be keeping you up to date with the winners and losers of the show as it happens, and the Kickoff Show begins at 10 PM GMT / 5 PM ET / 2 PM PT with the main card starting at 12 AM GMT (August 20) / 7 PM ET (August 19) / 4 PM PT. Keep refreshing the page for up to the second results and surprising moments from the PPV.
There are a few high profile matches to keep your eye on for the evening. For Raw's matches, the Intercontinental Championship match between Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler should be one of the best matches of the evening. The two competitors have had some fantastic fights against each other, including the ironman match last month at Extreme Rules. There are a few rumors circling that Rollins' buddy, Dean Ambrose, will turn heel at the end of the bout though.
The Smackdown side of the card has a couple matches that should be fantastic. First, there is Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz, which has been building for the past couple years. This is the first time the two men have battled each other since Bryan was cleared to wrestle again back in the spring, and he recently spoke to GameSpot about this history with The Miz. Finally, there's Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles for the WWE Championship. There's are a couple of the most exciting wrestlers to watch on WWE programming, and they're bound to put on an amazing match. Hopefully, this is the main event of the evening.
Check out the Summerslam card below. The matches may not happen in the order listed. In case you're not caught up, don't worry; we put the final results in spoiler blocks.

When something is popular, it takes almost no time for the copycats to show up and cash in. One need look no further than the crowded market of battle royale video games to know that's true.
So, naturally, when Pokemon Go was released in 2016 and became a smash hit, it was only a matter of time before similar games started arriving. Among them are Harry Potter: Wizards, which is in the works, and Ghostbusters World.
A collaboration between Sony Pictures and the studios 4:33 and Next Age, Ghostbusters World takes the foundation of Pokemon Go and rebuilds it to catch the attention of those who don't feel particularly drawn to Pokemon--and it works. While I was never able to get fully invested in Pokemon Go as someone who was never really a fan of the anime, card game, or video games, Ghostbusters World is a very different story.
After having the chance to demo the game at San Diego Comic-Con, it helped me understand what the draw of a game like Go or Ghostbusters World is. It is a simple, active, and fun way to engage with a property you love.
And for Ghostbusters fans, that engagement is going to take you even deeper into the world built by the various incarnations of the franchise. Ghostbusters World will feature a story mode, based on all-new writing and art from the creative force behind IDW's Ghostbusters comic book series. Given that fans of Ghostbusters never stop asking for new narrative content from this franchise, that's a good thing.
The game will also feature a PvP mode, customization of your avatar and gear, along with all of the standard features for a game taking inspiration from Pokemon Go--location-based gameplay, bosses that you team up with friends to raid, and randomly scattered "dimension doors" that function a lot like PokeStops, just to name a few. However, instead of coming up against an array of Pokemon, you'll go head-to-head with ghosts pulled from the films, animated series, comics, and just about anywhere else you've seen the Ghostbusters.
Playing the game, it's hard not to notice the similarities to Go. You walk around looking for ghosts on the loose to catch in a trap. It's the battle where things get interesting, though. Once you find a monster, instead of throwing an array of Poke balls at it, it's time to break out the proton pack.
Firing on the ghosts is as simple as tapping them with your fingers, but there are some tricks to it. For starters, your proton pack will overheat if not given enough time to cool down in-between blasts. Additionally, you're not limited to a single pack. It's unclear how many will be available at launch, but in the demo I played, there was the standard version, as well as one that fired off proton shells, similar to a shotgun.
When it came to taking down the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in a team-up battle, the shotgun proton pack was surprisingly effective, even more so than the standard pack. And, honestly, busting the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man felt pretty good.
With so many potential customizable options and a vast catalog of ghosts to work through, Ghostbusters World could easily eat up hours upon hours of your time once it arrives. Ghostbusters World does not have a definitive release date yet, but it's scheduled to launch later this year.
Europe's annual gaming expo, Gamescom 2018, is just around the corner, and many developers and publishers have already begun teasing new announcements and trailers ahead of the big event. The latest comes from developer The Farm 51, which has shared the first gameplay footage of its upcoming PC-exclusive first-person shooter, World War 3.
The trailer, which you can watch above, provides a look at the large-scale firefights players will be able to jump into in the game's Warzone mode. Despite being taken from a pre-alpha build, the footage still looks impressive, showcasing players engaging in intense shootouts and piloting tanks through the ruins of a war-torn city.
World War 3 is a 64-player military shooter that takes place in a modern setting based on real-world locations such as Berlin and Warsaw. In addition to the aforementioned Warzone, the game also boasts a Recon mode, which tasks small recon squads of players with securing "high-value targets in hostile territory."
The Farm 51 still hasn't announced a firm release date for World War 3 yet, but players will have an opportunity to try out the upcoming FPS soon. The developer will host closed technical tests for the game in the near future. Additional details on those will be provided at a later date. The game will also be on display at both Gamescom and PAX West, giving attendees a chance to go hands-on.
World War 3 launches in Steam Early Access this fall. While the game is currently only slated to arrive for PC, The Farm 51 says it will "seriously consider" also bringing the title to consoles if the PC version does well.
With Gamescom 2018 taking place this week, Nintendo debuted a surprise Indie Highlights video. Essentially a Nintendo Direct focused on third-party indie games, it revealed a number of new games that are on the way to Switch, several of which are either out now or are coming extremely soon.
In terms of the newly released games, Bad North, the blend of real-time tactics/strategy games and roguelikes, is out now on the Eshop for $15/£13.49. Vikings invade your homeland and, with your father dead, you take on the task of leading the defense. PS4 and Xbox One versions launch next week, on August 28.
Also out now is the Switch edition of Prison Architect ($30/£25). As with the versions available on other platforms, you design a prison from scratch and have to manage its inhabitants' needs. If you're quite happy with your creation, you can upload it for other players to grab and play with. The Nintendo Switch edition includes two DLC expansions: All Day and a Night, and Psych Ward. Escape Mode will be available for purchase as DLC "later this summer."
Finally, there's Morphies Law ($20/£16), which launches today, August 20, at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST. This is a bizarre shooter where your character grows as they shoot, providing them with different abilities--though staying small provides benefits such as being able to make it through small passageways. It supports online multiplayer for 4v4 matches.
Also showcased during the Indie Highlights video was a Switch version of Terraria (releasing in 2019), Windjammers (October 23, 2018), Windjammers 2 (2019), and more; you can watch the video above and check out a list of everything that was included below.
The August box office continues to defy expectations. The month is traditionally one of the weakest of the year in terms of big releases, but last week the shark thriller The Megfar exceeded expectations to take home $44 million in its first weekend. This weekend, it was knocked from No.1 by the acclaimed romcom Crazy Rich Asians, which made an estimated $25.2 million from Friday to Sunday. Additionally, the movie had already opened in some theaters on Wednesday, bringing its total gross to $34 million by Sunday night, from a reported production budget of just $30 million.
The Meg slipped into second place but still made an impressive $21.1 million, bringing its domestic total to $83.7 million and $230.4 million worldwide. The second biggest new release of the week was the action thriller Mile 22, starring Mark Wahlberg. The movie has been met with poor reviews and despite entering the chart at No.3, only made an estimated $13.6 million in its first three days. Nevertheless, as Box Office Mojo points out, the international market is an increasingly important one and this type of violent action movie typically does well overseas.
The other new release was the adventure movie Alpha, which debuted with an estimated $10.5 million take. The movie tied for fourth place with Mission Impossible: Fallout, which continued to do great business in its fourth week on the chart, bringing its domestic total to $180.7 million. It remains the last of the summer's big budget franchise movies in the Top 10.
Elsewhere, the family movie Christopher Robin, the drama BlacKkKlansman, and horror movie Slender Man fell into the bottom half of the Top 10, at Nos. 6, 7, and 8 respectively. Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again round things off at No.9 and 10.
You can see the full Top 10 list for the August 17-19 US box office below, as compiled by Box Office Mojo.
US/Canada Box Office For August 17-19:

Best Buy's weekly sale has begun, which means a fresh set of gaming discounts is now live. This week's deals include a free game with the purchase of a Nintendo Switch, plus reduced prices on a handful of Xbox One, PS4, and Switch games. There's a good chance you'll find something you want this week, so let's dive in.
On the hardware side of things, anyone who buys a Nintendo Switch can get a free copy of the turn-based strategy game Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. If your entertainment center could use a boost, you can pick up a 49" 4K TV and an Xbox One S for $500--that's a savings of $200. And if you're interested in the new sport white Xbox One controller, you can save an additional $20 if you trade in select controllers.
As for the games, Xbox One or 360 owners can pick up the original Red Dead Redemption with plenty of time to play (or replay) it before the sequel comes out on October 26. The Game of the Year edition on sale for $15; it comes with the Undead Nightmare DLC, which fills the Wild West with zombies.
Best Buy also has a whole bunch of new price drops on recent games. These aren't part of the weekly sale, but they're lower than you can find the games at some other retailers. You can find all the price drops and this week's discounted items here.
The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ -- $30 -- Switch
A new month is underway, which means another pair of free Legendary Pokemon are now available for Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. This time, The Pokemon Company is giving away the Ruby and Sapphire cover monsters Groudon and Kyogre as part of its ongoing Year of Legendary Pokemon promotion, but as usual, you'll only have a limited time to grab them.
As with previous distributions, the way to receive the Legendaries differs depending on where you live. Once again, US residents will need to travel to a specific retailer to pick up a free download code for the Pokemon. This time, the code will be available at participating GameStop stores from August 3-26. Pokemon fansite Serebii reports that players in the UK will need to travel to Game stores to get the code.
The Legendaries can be redeemed in any seventh-generation Pokemon game, but the one you receive will depend on which version you're playing. Those with either Sun or Ultra Sun will get Kyogre, while Moon and Ultra Moon players will get Groudon. Additionally, the Pokemon will come at different levels and know different attacks based on the game you own. You can see their movesets in each version below:

To claim your Legendary, you'll need to redeem the download code using the Mystery Gift feature from the games' main menu. After selecting Mystery Gift, choose the option to receive your gift with a code/password, and input the code you picked up from GameSpot. The Pokemon will then be downloaded into your game. Once those steps have been completed, you'll be able to pick your Pokemon up from the deliveryman waiting inside any Pokemon Center.
Fortnite has launched on Android devices. The beta launched exclusively on Samsung devices last week, and now it's available on other Android platforms. However, you'll have to jump through a few hoops before you can jump from the battle bus.
Epic is using a special Fortnite Installer on the company's website, so you're not going to find what you're looking for in the Google Play Store like other mobile games. Searching for "Fortnite" or "Fortnite Battle Royale" won't get you anywhere. What type of Android device you're using will determine where and how you install the game.
Things are a bit easier for you if you've got a Samsung device. If you have a Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S8, S8 Plus, S9, S9 Plus, Note 8, Note 9, Tab S3, or Tab S4 then go to Game Launcher. From there, search for Fortnite and download the installer. That's it. You can also download the game straight from Epic's website.
It's with other Android devices where things get tricky. First, you'll need to check Epic's list of compatible devices. If your device is eligible, you can sign up on the Fortnite Android beta waiting list with your email. Eventually, you'll get to the front of the queue and get an email invitation to the beta. Log in with your Epic account to connect your Xbox Live, PSN, or PC Battle Pass progress.
After that, you'll need to wait again. Epic reports it should only take a few days for you to get your official invite to the Fortnite beta. When your invitation is registered, you'll be able to download the Fortnite Installer. Once that's on your device, you'll be able to download the Fortnite app to your phone or tablet.
When the download is done, wait for Fortnite to boot up and log into your Epic account. From there, you'll be able to start playing. You're advised to keep the Fortnite Installer even after you've started playing, as the installer is what keeps the game updated with new patches, not the actual game app.
If you'd rather avoid waiting for your invite to the beta, you can delay trying to install Fortnite until the game's official Android launch. The app still won't be available in the Google Play store when it does release. You'll either have to download the game through Samsung's Game Launcher or from Epic's website.
Fortnite is available on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
It's time to say goodbye to fireworks and hello to heat waves. To aid you in procrastinating on back to school shopping, we're here to let you know about everything coming to Netflix in August. Lots of movies and TV shows will be added throughout this month, while a number of others are on their way out. Let's dive into the highlights.
A lot of hard-hitting dramas will be available in August. Some of the notable additions include Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, Gran Torino, Million Dollar Baby, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and No Country For Old Men.
A handful of TV shows are coming to the service in August as well. We will be getting the second season of The Good Place, the fifth season of The 100, and the fifth and final season of The Originals, along with a few others.

There are also several original documentaries coming out, including one called Zion about a young man who was born without legs and wants to become a professional wrestler.
There are some comedy specials coming out as well, including Demetri Martin's new special, Bert Kreischer's new special, and part two of The Comedy Lineup, which features a handful of comedians doing 15 minute sets.
Clearly, there's going to be a lot to watch on Netflix this month, but sadly, there are also several titles that are leaving the site like Finding Dory, Sausage Party, and 40 Year Old Virgin. Many of these departed on August 1, but there's still time for certain titles.

If you feel like you've already watched everything you want to watch on Amazon Prime, despair no more; Amazon is coming out with a whole host of new titles in August. Here's what on tap for this month in terms of movies, TV shows, and Prime Originals.
Several original series are debuting, including All or Nothing: Manchester City which follows the legendary coach of the titular soccer team. A limited series called Agatha Christie will be released, as well as Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan with John Krasinski, which debuts on August 31.
Amazon Prime will also be adding some oldies to the streaming service, including dramas like The Blair Witch Project and Watchmen, and some kids movies like A Cinderella Story and Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams. The bulk of the additions came on August 1, but there's an assortment of other things coming throughout the month, too.
If this list isn't enough, there were a lot of titles added to Amazon Prime in July as well, including the likes of American Psycho, Mulholland Drive, The Twilight Saga. If you'd like to see everything that's coming to Amazon Prime in August, check out the complete list below.
