Here's When Call Of Duty: WW2 Releases On PS4, Xbox One, And PC

By Kevin Knezevic on Nov 03, 2017 12:11 am

Call of Duty: WWII is almost here. The game officially launches tomorrow, November 3, but players who want to get their hands on it right away won't have to wait too much longer, as we now know when it will go live.

In the US, Call of Duty: WWII unlocks right at 9 PM PT/12 AM ET on both Steam and Xbox One. It hasn't been confirmed when the game goes live on PlayStation 4, but it should presumably be at that time as well.

Players in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East can begin playing at 12 AM GMT. Those in Japan and Australia/New Zealand, meanwhile, can start playing right now, as the game is already available in those regions.

Call of Duty: WWII is the latest installment in Activision's blockbuster series. The game features a 48-player social space, which we recently got a look at. We also learned roughly how long it takes to complete its single-player campaign mode. Call of Duty: WWII's first DLC pack, The Resistance, was revealed earlier this week and launches for PS4 on January 30; it'll roll out on Xbox One and PC a month later.

Destiny 2 Update 1.0.6 Launches On PS4, Xbox One, And PC; Full Patch Notes Released

By Chris Pereira on Nov 02, 2017 11:47 pm

As part of the latest maintenance period, which has now concluded, Bungie has released a new update for Destiny 2. We had already gotten a preview of what update 1.0.6 does, and we now have the full patch notes that outline what Bungie has changed on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

In terms of newly revealed changes, this patch makes adjustments to Faction Rallies and how they dole out Faction Tokens. You'll get more in some ways, and less in others. Each completed Strike, for instance, now provides anywhere from five to nine Tokens; previously, they offered three to seven. The first Nightfall of the week (per character) provides 10 to 18 Tokens, while Heroic Public Events hand out five (down from eight).

The biggest change involves enemy resources, which could be found in Lost Sectors during Faction Rallies events. Destroying these previously would provide a Faction Token--but only for an individual player, which was problematic when playing in a group. This no longer yields any Tokens; instead, Fireteam members will each get three for opening a Lost Sector chest.

Elsewhere in this update, the mercy rule in Crucible has been adjusted so that it can be activated with a "wider range of scores" and do so later in a match. Clash's score limit drops from 75 to 50, while Control's drops from 100 to 90; spawns in Control are also now less affected by zones that the enemy team holds. Survival rounds now last for only two minutes (down from three) and teams have six lives (down from eight). Supremacy's score limit increases from 50 to 70, killing an enemy now grants one point, and Bungie notes that it's "adjusted the influence enemy crests have on the spawning system."

The release of the 1.0.6 update coincides with the 1.0.6.1 hotfix on PC. That platform gets the changes outlined above, but this hotfix also resolves the problem with clan rosters not displaying. It also addresses an issue where playing for long stretches of time would cause performance to drop until you restarted the game.

There's no word on when the next Faction Rallies event will happen; so far, only a single one has taken place, and that was prior to the PC version's release. Also on the way is the Dawning event and the Curse of Osiris DLC expansion, which increases Destiny 2's level cap and includes some PS4-exclusive content.

Destiny 2 Servers Down For Maintenance [Update: New Patch Out Now]

By Chris Pereira on Nov 02, 2017 11:30 pm

If you're trying to play Destiny 2 right now, you should make new plans. Bungie has taken the game's servers offline for maintenance and will release a new update, version 1.0.6, later today. In the meantime, you'll be unable to log in, effectively rendering the game unplayable. [Update: Maintenance has concluded, and the new Destiny 2 update is now available. That includes version 1.0.6 on all platforms, and the 1.0.6.1 hotfix on PC.]

Although maintenance has begun, players who were already online can continue to play until 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 4 PM GMT (3 AM AET on November 3). At that point, everyone will be booted offline until maintenance is complete. Bungie says that will happen around 12 PM PT, although previous maintenance periods have demonstrated that is merely an estimate; it might end much sooner or later.

During the maintenance, Bungie will deploy update 1.0.6 on all platforms. Full patch notes have not been released, so we don't yet know everything it does, but we have gotten a preview. The two big things are changes to the mercy rule in Crucible and a fix for the exploit involving the Bureaucratic Walk emote. This was serious enough to cancel Trials for two weeks, but the limited-time mode returns on November 3 for all platforms--marking its first appearance in the new PC version.

Update 1.0.6 will be released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It follows a PC-only Destiny 2 patch released earlier this week, which was meant to resolve issues with a particular CPU requirement that prevented some people from playing the game. We also recently learned the first details about the Curse of Osiris DLC, which will increase Destiny 2's level cap and offer PS4-exclusive content.

We'll update this story when the servers come online. Below, you'll find the preview of the 1.0.6 patch notes provided by Bungie.

New Dragon Ball FighterZ Trailers Reveals More Story Details

By Kevin Knezevic on Nov 02, 2017 10:59 pm

Bandai Namco has shared a new trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ. This one focuses exclusively on the game's story campaign, shedding more light on the mysterious mode.

As previously revealed, the story mode in Dragon Ball FighterZ takes players through an original tale that is comprised of three story arcs. It begins when a "troop of clones" mysteriously appears; around the same time, the Z-Fighters coincidentally lose consciousness one by one. When Goku awakens, he is "linked" with the player, allowing them to control and battle as the powerful Saiyan.

A central figure in the story mode is the brand-new character Android 21, who we also got a closer look at in the trailer. Android 21 is a brilliant researcher whose intellect is said to be on par with Dr. Gero. She has some sort of ties to the Red Ribbon army and appears to be behind Android 16's resurrection; at one point in the trailer, she can be seen with the Namekian Eternal Dragon, Porunga, presumably making a wish to bring Android 16 back to life.

In addition to Goku, the story mode will link players with several other characters for its different arcs; one revolves around Frieza, while the other puts players in control of Android 18. Players can develop bonds with the characters they're linked to as they defeat enemies, which in turn can potentially unlock special conversations that show a different side of that character.

Dragon Ball FighterZ releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 26. Players who pre-order the game digitally from the Xbox and PlayStation Stores will get early access to the game's upcoming open beta. All players who reserve the title will also unlock Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta early as a bonus.

Pixar's Coco Has An Unusual Vision Of The Afterlife

By Michael Rougeau on Nov 02, 2017 10:52 pm

The question of what happens after we die has plagued humanity since the first apes started hitting each other over the head with pointy rocks. It's been tackled endlessly in literature, film, and television, and it's starting to get stale. But Pixar's latest, the Mexican Day of the Dead-inspired Coco, threatens to liven things up.

Coco stars new actor Anthony Gonzalez as Miguel Rivera, a young boy who wants to follow in the footsteps of his musical idol, the great Ernesto De La Cruz (Benjamin Bratt). But Miguel's family, devoted shoemakers, hates music, and he has to play guitar in secret. The movie is set during the Mexican Dia de los Muertos festival--the Day of the Dead--and Pixar went to great lengths to make sure it's respectful of Mexican culture.

But they hit a wall when it came time to send Miguel to the world of the dead partway through the film. There's a problem with the Mexican version of the afterlife: There isn't one, the filmmakers discovered.

"In all of our research and all of the people that we spent time with and families we spent time with down in Mexico, we would often ask them what their vision was of an afterlife, and pretty consistently, people would just say 'I don't know,'" Coco co-director Lee Unkrich, whose previous directing credits include Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, and Toy Story 2 and 3, told press during a visit to Pixar headquarters in Emeryville, Calif. "There wasn't like, some set vision of an afterlife tied to Dia de los Muertos. So we found that we were pretty much left on our our own to figure that out."

We don't want to reveal too much, but Coco's afterlife draws from a number of inspirations, from Pedro Linares's iconic, colorful alebrijes to the traditions of the holiday itself, where a path of marigold petals leads loved ones back to the land of the living for a single night.

"We definitely looked at everything. We looked at every movie we could think of that had some depiction of an afterlife or heaven. And in most cases it kind of showed me what I didn't want to do," Unkrich said. "We tried to forge our own path and do something kind of unique and different than what anyone had ever done. We tried to keep it grounded in a reality, rather than going for just a completely crazy, anything goes kind of environment. We tried to have a logic to our land of the dead."

In Coco's spirit world, you can't get back across the marigold bridge unless your descendants remembered to include your portrait on the ofrenda--each family's Dia de los Muerto altar. Once there, Miguel is greeted by previous generations of his family, who have their own problems to deal with--chief among them reaching the Riveras' ofrenda.

"If you think of the Day of the Dead from the point of view of the dead, this is the one day of the year where they go back and see their family and check in with how they've grown and how the family has expanded," said Coco's other co-director, Adrian Molina. "It really lent itself to creating excitement and an energy that you would feel throughout this land for the whole night."

No Caption Provided

In Coco's land of the dead, life basically goes on, and whatever job you had in real life is what you keep on doing when you die--although you're now a skeleton and can only enjoy food again on one night of the year: the Day of the Dead.

"That might be great for some people," Unkrich said. "It might suck for some people to keep doing what they do. But we just wanted to have some ground rules so that there was some structure to the society--and especially because we wanted the Riveras to still be making shoes, even in the afterlife, so that Miguel really didn't have anything to look forward to."

That may sound grim, but it's also what pushes Miguel to keep seeking Ernesto De La Cruz--even into the afterlife.

Coco is set to hit theaters November 22.

New Fantastic Beasts Sequel Image Teases Wizard Party

By Dan Auty on Nov 02, 2017 10:45 pm

The Harry Potter series ended in 2012, but the success of last year's spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has ensured that there's plenty more movies in the Potter universe on the way. The currently untitled Fantastic Beasts sequel is currently shooting, and a new image has been released via the movie's official Instagram account.

Like the first Fantastic Beasts sequel image revealed last month, it doesn't actually show any of the cast. However, it does suggest that the movie will feature the launch party for the book that the first film was named after--the legendary monster guide written by lead character Newt Scamander. Check it out below:

No Caption Provided

The Fantastic Beasts sequel will star Eddie Redmayne as Newt, with Katherine Waterston, Zoe Kravitz, and Ezra Miller all returning from the first movie. Johnny Depp will play the villainous Grindelwald, with Jude Law as young Dumbledore. Other cast members include Claudia Kim (Avengers: Age Of Ultron) and Ingvar Sigurdsson (The Oath), and David Yates directs once more.

An official synopsis for Fantastic Beasts was released in July. It reads, "As he promised he would, Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause--elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore.

"But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina, Queenie, and Jacob, but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly dangerous and divided wizarding world. The film expands the wizarding world, moving from New York to London and on to Paris."

The Fantastic Beasts sequel is set for a November 16, 2018 release, and according to Potter creator JK Rowling, it will be the second of five movies. The first movie made more than $814 million at the worldwide box office.

PlayerUnknown On Vaping, Anime, And The Future Of PUBG

By Tamoor Hussain on Nov 02, 2017 10:34 pm

Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene has had quite the year. He launched his survival shooter, Battlegrounds, in Early Access on Steam, and it has gone on to become the breakout success of 2017, setting concurrent player records on Steam, taking over Twitch, and dominating discussions around gaming.

At E3, Greene announced that his game would make its console debut on Xbox One and, at Paris Games Week, the developer announced a release date for the console version. And as part of promoting the game, he's traveled around the world to various events. We caught up with him at Paris Games Week and decided to ask him about his whirlwind year, as well as a few other questions that'd help us understand the man behind the game.

GameSpot: Hello, Brendan, how's it going?

PlayerUnknown: Pretty good! It's been a busy few days, we finally let loose the release date for Xbox One and we're really excited about that.

Yes, so you've got a console version coming and last month you broke records on Steam. How did that feel, Brendan?

It was amazing. The number of people that are playing is unreal, I never imagined that in my wildest dreams. It's been great. Everything seems to be coming together now, since we have the Steam 1.0 release coming at the end of the year and the Xbox Preview Program version. It feels like the last year and a half is coming to a head. It's really starting to come together.

With over a million players now, Brendan, at what point do you stop calling yourself PlayerUnknown?

[Laughs] I would sooner change to PlayerLeaveMeTheF**kAlone. No, but really, that's my handle. It's a bit ironic now given the success of the game but…

I think you should change it to Brendan's Battlegrounds. It has a nice, kid playing war in the garden vibe.

Oh nooooo. If we renamed it you wouldn't have the cool PUBG moniker.

You're introducing a bunch of new features, most notably vaulting. It must be so stressful to mess with something as popular as PUBG is now.

It is quite stressful. We want to improve how the blue zone works, we want to add vaulting and balance the core gameplay and gunplay mechanics. Of course, with a big player base, that's a risky thing to do and it's something we have to do carefully--almost in baby steps--to make sure that people are informed about what we're doing and we're communicating it well. For us it's about making a great game, and sometimes you have to change stuff to make them better. Some players don't like change--a lot of people in the world don't like change--but sometimes in order to make the game better you have to do these things. We constantly listen to the community anyway, so if we make changes they really don't like, we have rolled them back before and we will do in the future. This is a community effort and while we have a clear vision for what we want we still have to make sure players are happy with what we're doing.

Do you worry that PUBG could lose its popularity as quickly as it gained it?

Of course that's a concern. But it's not something we're too focused on since we've never really focused on our player numbers. We're more focused on making a good game. It's been my belief since making Arma 2 mods that it's not about the fame or concurrent users, it's about making a good game. All the way through my mod career, I was just focused on polishing the game, and it's the same with PUBG because we want to continue this over five, 10, 20 years. We want to continually upgrade and improve.

So let's say you had to pack it in a … Fortnite … from now…

Very subtle [Laughs].

Thanks. What would you do next?

Make another game. If it dies, what can we do? But we hope that because we have new maps coming, environments coming, and we want to keep adding to the game to give more interesting battlegrounds to keep fighting on.

Have you played Super Mario Odyssey?

No.

Do you want to play it?

No. It's not my type of game…

Because you don't like fun?

[Laughs] I like realistic shooters. I don't mind fun, but shooters are just my bag. I don't get time to play unfortunately. I would want to play it with friends and I don't get time to play with friends. Maybe when I get time off in a few years…

This is making me sad, Brendan.

No don't worry, I get to work on my dream. I work long hours and I travel a lot, I don't get to see my friends very often, I have a daughter back in Ireland that I get to see infrequently--I Facetime with her a lot--but it's ok because I'm doing something that'll last quite some time and it's worth putting in the time now. I'm willing to sacrifice some things because I'm getting to live my dream.

Are you playing anything else right now?

Battlefield 1, some Civ, and Cities: Skylines on the plane. They make eight hours go like that [snaps fingers].

You should try Mario. It's joyful.

I really should. I'll get a controller and see what happens.

PUBG is currently dealing with server issues, lag, and cheating. What are you doing to combat this and what would you say to people who have become disheartened by it? Streamers, for example, are starting to look for experiences elsewhere now.

We always expected that; it's just the nature of streaming. But for us, we're committed to solving these problems. The server issues are just because of our exponential growth--we wrote the system to deal with a million concurrent users. We thought we'd never reach that, so it was a good ceiling to put on our system. Now we're reaching 2.3 million. We ran out of cloud servers in Asia because there were no physical servers left for us. It's just growth pains, essentially.

With cheating, it's the same. We're expanding quite rapidly in China and there's quite a large section of cheat providers that are very smart there. I mean, they're going in via the Windows kernel to attack the game. But we're rolling out new systems and updating the game with more server-side fixes. We're committed, but we're only seven months into live development, and it takes time to write these systems. We've been banning up to 20,000 cheaters a day and we're now able to build profiles on what a cheater looks like [in-game]. We'll be using that--a lot more statistical analysis--to really beef up our anti-cheat measures and catch people that do manage to bypass them.

As I said, this is a long-term project for us. It's a marathon, not a sprint. So my message to players that get disheartened is, "Bear with us, we're not abandoning the game, this is not a pump and dump by any means." We have a plan to keep going until this is honestly the best version of the game it can be.

Have you tried throwing money at it?

[Laughs] As per player suggestions, we have tried throwing money at servers but it doesn't seem to fix them.

Why don't you talk about the mobile version of the game? The players there seem to be very neglected.

Mobile version? We don't have a mobile version.

None of these are PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
None of these are PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

What? But I got Ultimate Fortnite Battle Royale-Grand Battleground from the Google Play Store and…

[Laughs] That's not us.

What about Players Unknown Battle Grand?

[Laughs] Nope.

Grand Battle Royale?

Sorry, no.

BATTLE GAME ROYALE?

No.

Oh, I am very confused.

We haven't made a mobile version of the game. Man, there's so many [clones]. I had some friends say, "Oh my god your game is on my phone," and I am like, "We don't have a game on the phone right now…"

How do you feel about seeing so many clones and also not being able to stop that from happening? They could impact your reputation, right?

It's to be expected. Look at any movie that comes out, you just get a bunch of knock-off games. I want this genre to grow; it's a new, fledgling genre in gaming and one that I helped father, so I want to see it grow. All that I ask from developers is to put your own spin on it. That makes it more interesting, the genre grows. If everyone is just copying there's no growth and it's just the same thing over and over. That's boring and a bit lazy. I want to see more Battle Royale games, but let's try and put some unique spins on them and not the same thing over and over again.

Where does Fortnite fall within that thinking? Does it put enough of a spin on the formula?

Not really, no. So many of the mechanics in the game are similar to the stuff I concepted way back in Arma 3. Even the UI is a little bit similar to ours. And it's not really the case that we're annoyed with Fornite, it's because of conflicts of interest with Epic and that was our point to the press, it wasn't really communicated well. I just feel that Fortnite: Battle Royale is a bit lazy to me. They could have had a great game because Fortnite is amazing and they could have put some unique, interesting building [systems] in there, almost like a tower defense Battle Royale, but they just didn't.

But what can you do? It's going to happen. It's the nature of business I guess.

Is the Blue Zone a metaphor for life in that failure is always closing in on you and you've just got to hope it gets everyone else around you first?

[Laughs] I look at Battle Royale the game type as a metaphor for life: It's really f**king hard and you're going to get f**ked nine times out of ten, so yes, that is a good way to look at it.

For a lot of people, their knowledge of weapons comes from games. I learned about M4s and P90s through Counter-Strike. So with that in mind, do you think you're setting unrealistic expectations for what a frying pan is capable of?

Oh my god. [Laughs] Yes, I think I am.

Is that something you feel a responsibility to address?

No, the frying pan will always be the frying pan.

We do want to add new features to it like bullet penetration, for example, so you might start seeing holes in that frying pan. Some of those videos of 50 people shooting at one frying pan and it's protecting them are ... [Laughs]

Would you like to take this opportunity to put out a PSA about frying pans in real life?

Yes. Frying pans should only be used in self-defense.

Thank you, I think that's sensible. Have you thought about introducing a vegetarian alternative to "Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner"?

I can guarantee you that our virtual chicken contains almost no meat.

It seems like it'd be pretty easy to just have an option for "Winner, Winner, Salad Spinner."

[Laughs] That is a very nice idea. That could be very good for the veg-eating audience.

I think they'd appreciate it.

You're right.

So you went outside for a smoke earlier…

Yeah.

That new fog effect? It's actually PlayerUnknown's vape.
That new fog effect? It's actually PlayerUnknown's vape.

Do you vape?

Yes.

Really?

Of course I do.

What you vaping?

At the moment, it's Lemon Frosted Doughnut.

That sounds amazing.

It's very nice.

What PG/VG ratio are we talking?

Usually more VG, so 60/40.

Nicotine?

Trying to go zero. I'm trying to ween myself off smoking, so vaping and then having a cigarette now and then.

How's that going?

Y'know, I'm getting there.

That's great. The creator of one of the most popular video games in the world right now vapes. So maybe people should lay off the vapers a bit?

Vape Naysh.

Vape Naysh, Brendan.

Seriously though, as a Vaper, I hate those f**king idiots that are always filling the room with a cloud. It's like, "Chill the f**k out."

I agree. Whenever I go to my local store to get a bit of liquid there's always a guy trying to start a smoke tornado with his hands and he looks like a right knob.

[Laughs]

Have you actually seen Battle Royale?

Of course! It's one of my favourite movies. I just love the idea of starting with nothing and having to fight for survival. It becomes a human interest story, a real look into how people react and behave in unusual situations.

Do you like anime?

I liked Akira.

I like you.

[Laughs]

You should check out Hunter X Hunter. I think you might be into it, given your love of survival. It has similar themes to PUBG.

I'll check it out. I also read Lone Wolf and Cub, which was wonderful. It's f**king amazing.

It's being adapted into a movie now.

Really? That's cool. I love that story.

Thanks, Brendan.

Thank you.

LA Noire is coming to Nintendo Switch in just a few days, but you may have some difficulty in playing the game if you don't own an SD card. The Eshop version of LA Noire for Switch comes in at 29 GB, making it too big to fit on the console's internal memory.

The Switch contains 32 GB of storage built in, but Nintendo states "6.2 GB of internal memory is reserved for use by the system." That means you'll need to buy extra storage if you want to download the 1940s detective game to your Switch.

The cartridge version, meanwhile, needs a 14 GB day one update. The patch contains "required gameplay data as well as general bug fixes and improvements." However, the physical edition of LA Noire for Switch is apparently more expensive than the digital one.

For comparison, Bethesda told Rolling Stone that Doom's upcoming Switch port has a campaign and arcade mode that "fit on a 16 GB cartridge," though the multiplayer mode is a separate 9 GB download. We don't yet know how big the total game will be if you were to purchase it from the Eshop.

Nintendo's own games, meanwhile, tend to be much smaller in size. Super Mario Odyssey's download version is 5.2 GB in total, while Splatoon 2 is 3.1 GB and Arms just 2.2 GB.

LA Noire is Rockstar's first game for Nintendo's console. It's coming to the hybrid device on November 14, alongside new PS4 and Xbox One versions. For more on those, check out some 4K LA Noire gameplay.

Rainbow Six Siege's New DLC Announced As Operation White Noise

By Oscar Dayus on Nov 02, 2017 10:16 pm

Ubisoft has announced Rainbow Six Siege's new expansion. Season Four of Year Two is called Operation White Noise, and as with previous add-on packs it will include three new operators as well as a never-before-seen map.

The new map is set in South Korea and will have players shoot it out "in an observation tower high above Seoul's skyline." The three new operators, meanwhile, include one Polish character to complete the GROM Unit lineup that started with Operation Blood Orchid's Ela. In addition, two Korean Operators belonging to the 707th Special Mission Battalion will join Siege's roster.

No Caption Provided

More details, including a release date, have yet to be revealed. Ubisoft says more about White Noise and its operators will be revealed during Siege's upcoming Pro League finals streams on November 18 and 19.

As Year Two's Season Four, Operation White Noise is the last expansion confirmed to be coming to Siege. However, a Ubisoft blog post hints that more content may come to the game in the future. "We will have more news to share on the exciting things to come in Year 3, but for now, we want to share a big thank you from the entire Rainbow Six development team," reads the post.

The previous big expansion, Operation Blood Orchid, was released in September. It included the new Theme Park map as well as three operators: Ela, Ying, and Lesion. Traditionally, Rainbow Six Siege DLC drops have included just two operators, but both Blood Orchid and White Noise contain three due to the dedicated Poland expansion being canceled earlier this year.

More recently, Rainbow Six Siege received a big update that changed a bunch of operators: Kapkan's traps have been completely reworked, while Blitz can now sprint without lowering his shield. For more, read the full Rainbow Six Siege Mid-Season Reinforcements patch notes.

These Are The Extreme Rules For Showing Star Wars: The Last Jedi In Movie Theaters

By Chris E. Hayner on Nov 02, 2017 10:16 pm

Star Wars may take place in a galaxy far, far away, but it earns a lot of money here on Earth, and Disney, the studio behind the franchise, knows it. That's why the company is establishing a set of very strict rules when it comes to theaters playing Star Wars: The Last Jedi when it debuts in December.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Disney expects a lot from any theater planning to exhibit the film. First and foremost, 65% of ticket sale revenue will go to Disney. That's up from 64% for the last two Star Wars movies. With most new releases, that number is typically closer to 55-60%. Theaters are also not allowed to begin marketing the movie before Disney gives approval

Additionally, exhibitors will be required to screen The Last Jedi in their biggest auditoriums for a minimum or four weeks. That's a rule Disney has implemented for their previous Star Wars releases. However, there's a catch. Any theater that breaks one of the rules is eligible to be charged an additional 5% of ticket sales--bringing Disney's haul to 70% of the revenue.

No Caption Provided

These rules will only go into effect if the film grosses $500 million in the United States and Canada, which is practically guaranteed--The Force Awakens earned $936 million domestically, while Rogue One took in $523 million in the United States and Canada. Should the rules go into effect though, it poses a tricky situation for theaters as other films release in the holiday season.

Among the movies releasing in the weeks after The Last Jedi are Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, The Greatest Showman, and Pitch Perfect 3. Under Disney's rules, none of them would be allowed to play on a theater's largest auditorium. That could become problematic for theaters in smaller towns, some of which only have one screen.

That said, the chances that any of those films is going to outgross the next chapter in the Star Wars saga is slim, at best. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in theaters on December 15.

Last Chance For Pokemon Go Halloween 2017 Event

By Kevin Knezevic on Nov 02, 2017 10:00 pm

Halloween may have ended, but Pokemon Go players still have a few more hours to take part in this year's Halloween event. The in-game event concludes on November 2 at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET / 8 PM GMT, making this your last day to more easily find Ghost Pokemon and earn bonuses.

In addition to increased spawns for "spooky" Pokemon like Gastly, Houndour, Misdreavus, and Cubone, this year's Halloween event introduced a handful of Gen 3 Pokemon to the popular mobile game, including Sableye, Duskull, and Banette. According to developer Niantic, "The rest of the Pokemon first seen in the Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire video games will gradually arrive starting as early as December." Players also have a chance to catch a special Pikachu wearing a witch's hat during the Halloween event.

On top of that, this year's Halloween event offers a number of bonuses to earn. Catching, hatching, and transferring Pokemon will net you double Candy, while special boxes that include "items such as Raid Passes and Super Incubators" can be purchased from the in-game shop. Niantic has also added a special Mimikyu Disguise Hat for players' avatars to wear.

Today also marks the day the three Legendary dogs--Entei, Raikou, and Suicune--rotate to their final region, where they'll be available until November 30. Meanwhile, the Pokemon series' next traditional installments, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, release for 3DS on November 17. Developer Game Freak recently explained why the two titles aren't coming to Nintendo Switch and which version is best for players.

Destiny 2 Raid Guide: Leviathan Walkthrough, Tips, And Strategies

By Matt Espineli on Nov 02, 2017 09:50 pm

Destiny 2's first Raid has been live on consoles for some time, and it's finally out on PC. Titled Leviathan, this debut Raid for Destiny 2 is comprised of puzzles, challenging encounters, and boss fights. Navigating it all without any assistance can be seriously difficult, so we've rounded up tips and a walkthrough for the entire Raid, as well as details on how to access it. Take note that each weekly reset shuffles the order of three major encounters in the Raid, so the exact order in which you encounter the Royal Pools, Pleasure Gardens, and Gauntlet will vary from week to week..

For more guides for the game, including breakdowns of the three classes, along with our skill and ability galleries for the various subclasses, be sure to visit our Destiny 2 guides and walkthroughs roundup for more information on what's happening in the online world of the Guardians. Looking ahead, Destiny 2's first DLC expansion, Curse of Osiris, will introduce new "Raid content," but it's unclear at the time of this writing what that will consist of.

How to Access the Raid

In order to access the Raid, simply select the Leviathan icon in the top right corner of the Director, which you can see in the image below. You'll also want to initiate a questline called On the Comms, which is unlocked at random after time killing Cabal. Once you complete its major steps, you unlock a new step called Destroyer of Worlds that requires you to complete the Leviathan Raid. Doing so will net you a sweet prize after completing the Raid (and free up a slot in your inventory that the quest occupies).

No Caption Provided

Major Raid Prerequisites

Aside from completing the On the Comms questline, make sure your Power Level is at least 270 before taking on the Leviathan Raid. Going in with anything lower is manageable, but be aware that entering the Raid with a lower Power Level could make you a detriment to your Fireteam. It's also recommended to enter the Raid with a full fireteam of six players.

Suggested Gear

There's a wide variety of gear that will work, but one weapon you'll want to consider is the Exotic scout rifle Skyburner's Oath. It fires solar slugs that do extra damage to Cabal and penetrates Phalanx shields. This is a handy weapon to use that'll assist your efforts to take down the loads of Cabal you'll encounter in the Leviathan Raid. Other weapons of note include Merciless (a fusion rifle that can be fired rapidly), a rocket launcher that drops cluster bombs (such as Curtain Call or Cup-Bearer), and Coldheart (the pre-order bonus trace rifle, which is useful for the final boss fight).

Leviathan Raid Guide

Part 1: Embankment

After starting the Raid, proceed forward until you'll encounter enemies. These foes won't harm you unless you shoot them. Avoid attacking them, run past, and proceed up the slope and through the door.

Part 2: Leviathan Castellum (Part 1)

Upon reaching the Castellum, you'll begin a trial that has you claiming and defending three Standards. To accomplish this, your group should separate into two teams: one to defend the a central point where the Standard are to be taken, and another to retrieve them from their respective bearers. Keep in mind that if the Cabal Legionaries manage to get too close to the central point, the Standards you've retrieved can be taken.

Once all three Standards have been returned, a door will open up the path ahead where you'll find the first of the Leviathan Raid loot chests, containing a Powerful Legendary engram, the Calus' Selected shader, and Emperor Calus Tokens. Remember that, as noted above, the order of the ensuing encounter varies from week to week--you'll either head to the Royal Pools, Pleasure Gardens, or Gauntlet next.

Part 3: Royal Pools

Here, you'll encounter four pressure plates, with a fifth located at the center. Each of these plates has an orb on it that imbues you with a limited-time buff that protects you from environmental damage (which you suffer while standing in the water in this area). Make sure you and your teammates activate this buff before starting the trial, as standing in the water in this area without it will quickly drain your health. Once you're ready, have four of your teammates each stand on a different pressure plate.

The premise of the trial is as follows: four people must maintain position on their respective pressure plates to slowly raise a weight up a chain. But as you'd expect, powerful enemies spawn, making the process significantly more difficult. As the assault wages on, make sure you and your teammates keep re-activating the buff. You'll essentially have two groups of three players for each side; one player will grab the buff and take up a teammate's position on a plate; that player then gets the buff and rotates into the other player's position, and so on.

Once the chains in all four areas are sufficiently raised, you'll hear a musical cue, at which point everyone must immediately move into the middle (where the buff is located). Five players should focus on destroying the hanging lanterns in this area while one takes out any nearby enemies. Your buff will run out at some point, at which time you should leave the water to avoid dying. A Psion enemy will spawn here eventually and must be killed with a melee attack (and there may also be one you have to shoot). At this point, return to your plates and repeat the entire process. Once all the lanterns are destroyed, the trial will end and a loot chest will spawn containing an Emperor Calus Token and potentially some gear drops.

Part 4: Leviathan Castellum (Part 2)

The next section has you once again defending and retrieving three Standards. However, this time around the central point you must defend has switched places with one of the points in the surrounding area. Regardless, utilize the same two-team strategy to complete the trial. Also take note of special Psion enemies called Councillors who must be killed with a melee attack; you'll want to take them out quickly, as they will buff enemy units. After you've succeeded, a loot chest will spawn containing glimmer.

Part 5: Pleasure Gardens

First, eliminate the enemies you see before heading towards the massive golden statue. Have two of your teammates pick up the crystal orbs and charge them at the light scattered around the area. An opening should appear beneath the statue; remaining members should then grab the pollen inside. The members up top must then guide pollen holders to special flowers scattered around the area. You have a limited time to get the pollen holders to a flower before a Warhound's Psionic Howl resets your progress. Regardless, once pollen holders reach a flower, those up top must fire their orbs at the flower to imbue their teammates with a strength buff. Do this two to three times to build up enough power.

Once powered up, the pollen holders should then attack the Warhounds. But if a Warhound sees your teammates, they have one minute to damage them and retreat to the safe room below the golden statue. Rinse and repeat this process until the Warhounds are dead. Keep in mind that you only have four chances to defeat all six Warhounds, as the safe room will lock up after the third attempt. You'll then get a key, and a loot chest will appear on top of the safe room containing random loot and an Emperor Calus Token.

Part 6: Leviathan Castellum (Part 3)

Once again the same principle applies here. Simply utilize the same two-team strategy to obtain the Standards and complete the trial. Again, keep an eye out for Councillors, who are taken out with a melee attack. A loot chest will spawn containing more glimmer.

Part 7: The Gauntlet

To start the trial, jump onto the round platforms to summon enemies. Steadily kill them to fill up the meter under each pillar in the room. Two orbs will eventually spawn; have two of your teammates pick them up. This transports them into tunnels in the surrounding area.

Those in the tunnel need to run through gates with rows of circles on them. Energy barriers close off these uniquely designed gates, so tunnel runners need to quickly call out which gate's row of circles has a red one. Teammates outside then have a limited time to simultaneously shoot at the rows of glowing triangles on the corresponding gate that doesn't contain a red circle. Successfully doing this will open up the gate, clearing the path for the tunnel runners. The two tunnel runners converge and throw their orbs into an energy fountain.

Once you have completed this three games, your entire team goes to the middle and grabs an orb; everyone then runs through the tunnels, with players alternating who goes through the openings with charges in them. Three players have to successfully make it through and slam their orbs into the energy fountain, bringing the trial to an end.

Part 8: Emperor Calus

After clearing the third Castellum challenge, you'll be led to Emperor Calus's throne room. To initiate the battle, shoot the cup from his hand, and he'll start spawning enemies into the room for you to fight. Eventually, Calus will teleport everyone; three players will go to a purple dimension to do battle with a giant projection of his head, while the other three will be send back to defend themselves in the throne room. Four Psions then spawn in the throne room, each with a symbol floating above them--make sure your teammates don't kill them.

Those transported inside the purple dimension will each notice a different symbol on the Calus projection's forehead. Each player needs to shout out the symbol they see to their teammates in the throne room. The players back in the real world must then kill the Psion aligned with the symbol that wasn't called out. This lowers the barrier surrounding the Calus projection's head.

After several rounds of doing the call-outs, the Calus projection will then begin to spew skull projectiles. While people inside kill them--and you'll want to kill a lot, as they provide a buff that increases damage against Calus--those on the outside have to stagger Calus, who is channeling an attack. The players inside will also have to shoot three Psions that appear and kill two projections, all while avoiding holes or being popped up by ramps that appear. Once the shield under Calus's name is removed, three orbs will appear and the players in the purple dimension can return.

At this point, everyone needs to figure out assignments for stepping on pressure plates, which you'll use one at a time. Once everyone is on, deal as much damage to Calus as possible. Eventually, he raises his arm and you'll want to leave the plate and move on to the next one (later, he'll aim a weapon rather than raise his arm). Continue this process, moving from one plate to the next. After he's taken enough damage, he'll change forms and gain a spot on his chest that you can hit for criticals. Once his health hits zero, Calus has one final phase where you have to continue dealing damage. Remove his shield, and you'll finally slay Calus.

Assassin's Creed: Origins - Here's How To Find Papyrus Treasures

By Eddie Makuch on Nov 02, 2017 09:30 pm

Assassin's Creed: Origins is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. One element of the game is legendary and rare gear, which of course is not so easy to find. One way to do this is to locate papyrus scrolls throughout the world; they include a hint for where to find buried treasured, which comes with a rare or legendary item, along with 500 XP.

To help you on your way, we put together a video that explains where to find the scrolls. Watch the video embedded above to get the full rundown, but one quick note is that you cannot use your bird pal Senu to spot the treasure.

There are 25 caches to discover, and this video shows off where some of them are. If you want the names, the ones we cover in this video are A Long Drink, Fertile Lands, The Stone Gaze, Deafening Silence, Sea of Sand, Divided Valley, Dead End, and Nature's Way. Happy hunting!

Assassin's Creed Origins is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. GameSpot critic Alessandro Fillari awarded it a 7/10 in our Assassin's Creed Origins review and said, "Assassin's Creed has undergone many changes in its long and storied history, and Origins feels like the first step in the start of a new journey. It has its fair share of problems, but the vision for its future is one worth pursuing." Don't Worry, There Are Plenty More Star Wars Movies Still Coming

By Dan Auty on Nov 02, 2017 08:54 pm

Although there are two new Star Wars movies due over the next seven months--The Last Jedi and Solo: a Star Wars Story--Lucasfilm only has one film scheduled beyond that. JJ Abrams' currently untitled Episode IX arrives in 2019, and while an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie has been rumored, nothing further has been announced. Now Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy has spoken about the studio's plans for the franchise.

Kennedy appeared on the official Star Wars Show and revealed that she and the Star Wars "story group" that oversees the direction of the franchise were planning films over the next decade. She also suggested that new characters such as Rey and Finn might have a screen-life beyond the end of the current trilogy.

"We're sitting down now, [and] we're talking about the next ten years of Star Wars stories", she said. "We're looking at narratively where that might go. Future stories beyond Episode IX, with these new characters, Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8, but we're also looking at working with people that are interested in coming into the Star Wars world and taking us to places that we haven't been yet, and that's exciting too because it's a vast galaxy far, far away. The possibilities are endless!"

In August, it was reported that the next spin-off might focus on Obi-Wan, with Billy Elliot's Stephen Daldry under consideration to direct. Other potential spin-offs that have reportedly been discussed include movies about Yoda and Boba Fett. In 2015, Fantastic Four director Josh Trank was hired by the studio to helm a movie that was believed to be the Fett spin-off, but he was fired before the project was announced.

The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15. Two new trailers have been released this week, both of which contained previously unseen footage. The first was an international promo, while the second was a new TV spot.

The next Star Wars game is November's Star Wars: Battlefront II. We recently played a portion of the campaign and you can read our thoughts on that here.

Switch's Super Mario Odyssey Becomes Fastest-Selling Mario Game Ever In US, Europe

By Chris Pereira on Nov 02, 2017 08:10 pm

Super Mario Odyssey has been widely acclaimed, but it's also been a commercial success in its first week. Nintendo announced today that Odyssey has become the fastest-selling Super Mario game ever in both the US and Europe, topping 2 million sales in its first three days worldwide.

In the US, Odyssey sold 1.1 million units in in its first five days on the market. According to Nintendo of America, that beats the previous fastest-selling Mario game, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which was released in November 2009 during the height of Wii craze. This also makes it the fastest-selling game on Switch to date, the company said.

Specific sales figures were not shared for Europe. However, Nintendo of Europe claimed the same thing: Odyssey is both the fastest-selling Mario game (topping Super Mario Galaxy 2's launch weekend) and Switch game ever in the region.

Nintendo also revealed that 2.6 million Switch units have been sold in the US as of the end of October. Worldwide, the system is on pace to sell 14 million units between April 2017 and March 2018--a figure that would top lifetime sales of Wii U.

Supply constraints remain a major hurdle to selling more Switch consoles. Nintendo of America said, "Nintendo has increased supplies of Nintendo Switch to meet demand through the holidays," echoing what an earlier report suggested and what CEO Tatsumi Kimishima confirmed as part of the company's latest earnings report.

Destiny 2 Servers Down Before New Patch [Update: Servers Back Online]

By Chris Pereira on Nov 02, 2017 07:30 pm

It's taken slightly longer than expected to arrive, but a new update for Destiny 2 will launch on all platforms tomorrow, November 2. This will be accompanied by a maintenance period that will temporarily bring the game's servers offline. [Update: Destiny 2 servers are back online with a new patch.]

Maintenance begins at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 3 PM GMT (2 AM AET on November 3). This will follow the typical schedule--once maintenance begins, no one will be able to log in, but those already online can continue playing. An hour later, everyone will be booted offline, and the patch will roll out at 10 AM PT. Servers should be back online by 12 PM PT, although, as we've seen numerous times before, that is only an estimate; the wait may be longer or shorter.

The patch is update 1.0.6, which Bungie announced last week. We've already gotten a preview of the patch notes, which you can see below; it adjusts the mercy rule in Crucible and fixes the exploit involving the Bureaucratic Walk emote. Not everything the update does is included in the notes; we'll have to wait until it's actually available to get the complete rundown. This comes just ahead of the return of Trials, which was canceled for two weeks due to the emote bug.

Destiny 2 Update 1.0.6 Patch Notes Preview

General

  • Fixed an issue with collision detection on the Bureaucratic Walk emote
  • Fixed an issue causing players to encounter empty public spaces too often in free roam

Crucible

Updated Mercy Rule settings to allow Mercy to activate slightly later in the match, allowing a wider range of scores to trigger it.

  • Clash
    • Reduced score limit to 50 (was 75)

Call Of Duty: WW2's Campaign Length Estimate Revealed

By Kevin Knezevic on Nov 02, 2017 07:11 pm

Call of Duty: WWII is almost here, and it marks a return for the series in a number of ways. Most notably, the game takes players back to familiar territory, with WWII serving as the backdrop of its multiplayer and campaign modes. Activision revealed a slew of details about the story mode leading up to the game's release, and now we another important bit of information about it: its length.

GameSpot's Miguel Concepcion played through Call of Duty: WWII's single-player campaign for our review, which will go up on the site soon. On the game's Normal setting, it took him about six hours, 23 minutes to clear the campaign, not including the time it took to watch the credits sequence. That's generally about the length of a typical Call of Duty campaign, so veterans of the series won't be too surprised by this news. You can check out the opening portion of the story mode above.

Call of Duty: WWII's story revolves around Private Ronald "Red" Daniels, a young recruit in the U.S. First Infantry Division who gets his first taste of combat on D-Day during the Allied invasion of Normandy. He's joined throughout the campaign by his three squadmates: Turner, Red's commanding officer; Zussman, Red's best friend; and Pierson, a stern, by-the-books soldier. Activision shared a series of trailers that introduces each of the squad members.

Call of Duty: WWII launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC tomorrow, November 3. The game's first DLC map pack, called The Resistance, was revealed earlier this week during Sony's Paris Games Week press conference. Like other Call of Duty DLC, it will have a timed exclusivity period on PS4. The Resistance releases for Sony's console on January 30 and will arrive on Xbox One and PC 30 days later.

Take A Tour Of Call Of Duty WW2's Headquarters Social Space, Complete With Raining Loot Boxes

By Patrick Faller on Nov 02, 2017 07:07 pm

Call of Duty: WWII is just one day away from release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and GameSpot has got a full tour of the game's 48-player social space, complete with impressive-looking supply drops.

In the video above, you watch as we fully explore the social space Headquarters, which is set on Normandy Beach. There you'll find the quartermaster, where you'll pick up Contracts to complete and earn XP; a 1v1 pit for you and another player to test out your skills; a firing range; leaderboards, and more.

The video also shows off how you'll receive loot you've earned in the game, allowing you to call the drops just like you call care packages in multiplayer and falls from the sky. Others players get to watch the whole thing play out as your supply drop falls from the sky, and can scope out the loot you get.

Additionally, you'll see that there is a "Scorestreak Training" section of Headquarters. This is where you can try out all the killstreak perks before you hop into a multiplayer match.

While Call of Duty: WWII isn't out yet, its first DLC has already been announced. At its event at Paris Gaming Week, Sony announced the first map pack, called The Resistance. The DLC will release on PS4 on January 30, 30 days before it debuts on Xbox One and PC.

GameSpot recently sat down with Call of Duty: WWII developer Sledgehammer Games' co-founder, Michael Condrey, and talked about the real-life and film inspirations for the game. For the latest news on Call of Duty: WWII as it releases, follow GameSpot's full coverage.

Here's What Makes Super Mario Odyssey A 10/10

By Mike Mahardy on Nov 02, 2017 06:30 pm

There are few characters in any medium as iconic as Mario, and there are few video game series as consistent as the plumber's 3D entries. Super Mario Odyssey recently reinforced that notion, joining GameSpot's 10/10 scored games upon its release.

In the video above, The Lobby crew discusses why you absolutely need to play Nintendo's new 3D platformer. Everything from the tight mechanics, to its creative puzzles, to its inventive world design make it one of the best games in Mario's 3D legacy, and one of the best games this year.

For more videos like the one above, join The Lobby live show every Wednesday at 11 a.m. PT to discuss new releases, news, and events in the world of video games.

Super Mario Odyssey: See Everything Cappy Can Possess

One of the central mechanics of Super Mario Odyssey is possession. Thanks to his new companion, Cappy--a sentient hat whose abilities create a whole range of worrying questions--Mario is now able to take control of enemies and objects in his environment.

By throwing Cappy, Mario is transported into whatever the hat lands on, allowing him to assume full control. This works on everything from a lowly plodding Goomba to ... well, it's best if you see for yourself. In the video above, we've got a showcase of everything Mario can possess using Cappy. There's also a look at some of the special abilities that are available to Mario when he possesses them.

Naturally, those who want to go in completely fresh should be very careful about watching the video as it's full of spoilers. If you've just got the game, we also recommend checking out our 6 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting Super Mario Odyssey video, which covers some useful spoiler-free tips.

Shadow Of The Colossus Looks And Feels Better Than Ever In PS4 Remake

By Oscar Dayus on Nov 02, 2017 06:07 pm

After being announced at E3 this year, Shadow of the Colossus's PS4 remake became one of the console's most anticipated games. The action game was critically acclaimed when it launched on PS2 in 2005, and playing it in HD on PS4 is a tantalizing proposition.

Thankfully, we got to play a small slice of the game at Paris Games Week, and we were impressed. Bluepoint, the team handling the port, appears to have done a great job of modernizing the game and improving its visuals. On the gameplay front, the biggest change is jump now being mapped to X rather than Triangle, a change that threw Tamoor off when he first sat down with the game. The tweak makes sense, however, and helps the game feel less like the 12 year old title it is. Tamoor also thinks the game feels a touch faster now, but in a good way. See more of his thoughts in the video at the top of this article. Note: we were only able to capture off-screen gameplay.

The taster has excited, and we don't have long to wait: Shadow of the Colossus' PS4 release date has been set as February 6. The news was revealed after Sony's Paris Games Week press conference, during which it showed off a new trailer of the upcoming remake. You can check out that trailer above.

For more on the remake, check out some Shadow of the Colossus PS4 gameplay, or take a look at the below video. Alternatively, check out why we think the game is still wonderful.

Elsewhere in Sony's media briefing, the company revealed Detroit: Become Human's release window and showed off a new The Last of Us: Part II trailer. For more from the European event, check out the biggest PlayStation news from Sony's Paris Games Week press conference.

This Battlefield 1 DLC Map Is Available For Free For Everyone

By Oscar Dayus on Nov 02, 2017 04:39 pm

Developer DICE has announced that Nivelle Nights--a Battlefield 1 map previously exclusive to owners of the Premium Pass or the They Shall Not Pass expansion--is going free for everyone. The map is set at night time in northern France, and will be going free on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in "early November."

"Early November" will also see the start of Battlefield 1's new Operations Campaigns. The first, called Eastern Storm is coming very soon, combining In the Name of the Tsar's Brusilov Offensive and Red Tide Operations into one Campaign.

Looking ahead, a new DLC pack, called Turning Tides, is slated for an initial release sometime this December. It will include two new maps (Cape Helles and Achi Baba), two vehicles (the L-Class Destroyer and L-Class Airship), a new Elite class (the Infiltrator), a new Operation (Gallipoli), and new specializations, service assignments, and unlocks. A month later, we'll get two more maps (Heligoland Bight and Zeebrugge) and a new faction, the British Royal Marines.

Turning Tides is the third major DLC pack for Battlefield 1 to date, with the Apocalypse expansion still to come in "early" 2018. In the meantime, check out everything in the latest Battlefield 1 update.

Overwatch Update Changes Mercy Yet Again On PTR

By Oscar Dayus on Nov 02, 2017 04:37 pm

Overwatch's Public Test Realm has received another update, this time tweaking Mercy yet again as well as changing Ana. Mercy, who has been subject to a number of changes in recent weeks, has been nerfed once more: Resurrect now has a cast time, meaning she can now be interrupted while reviving teammates. In addition, her movement speed is now 75% lower while casting her Resurrect ability.

Developer Blizzard is testing the change on Overwatch's PTR as it feels Resurrect "still feels too strong and frustrating to play against," even though the company believes "Mercy's recent rework has been successful."

In a blog post, the developer continued: "Now that [Resurrect] has a cast time, there is more room for enemies to counter the ability. However, casting Resurrect happens instantly when Valkyrie is active. This should make her feel powerful when she transforms on the battlefield."

Ana has also been tweaked. Her Biotic Rifle now does 70 damage rather than 60, as it did previously. "Ana has been outshined by other support heroes lately," Blizzard stated. "Boosting her damage will help her defend herself and make her more threatening to the enemy team."

These changes are live now on the PTR, which you can check out if you own Overwatch on PC. However, be aware that these latest changes are not yet live in the live game (and may never go live there), as Blizzard wants to continue experimenting before implementing anything.

There is, however, plenty to check out in the live version of Overwatch. This year's Halloween Terror event is still happening right now, and it brings back last year's co-op Brawl mode and new cosmetics. You can check out all of the Overwatch Halloween skins and weapons in our gallery.

Overwatch PTR Update Patch Notes - Nov 1

Ana

  • Biotic Rifle
    • Damage increased from 60 to 70

Developer Comment: Ana has been outshined by other support heroes lately. Boosting her damage will help her defend herself and make her more threatening to the enemy team.

Mercy

  • Resurrect
    • Cast time increased from 0 seconds to 1.75 seconds
    • Mercy's movement speed is now reduced by 75% while casting
    • Can now be interrupted when Mercy is knocked back, stunned, or hacked
  • Valkyrie
    • When activated, Resurrection no longer has a cast time

Developer Comment: We feel that Mercy's recent rework has been successful, but her Resurrect ability still feels too strong and frustrating to play against. Now that it has a cast time, there is more room for enemies to counter the ability. However, casting Resurrect happens instantly when Valkyrie is active. This should make her feel powerful when she transforms on the battlefield.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed several issues that prevented the announcer voice lines from playing correctly in Competitive, Elimination, and Capture the Flag game modes
  • Fixed an issue causing Roadhog's Chain Hook to latch on to enemy players for longer than intended

Future Man, from executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, will bring time traveling comedy to Hulu. Josh Hutcherson stars as a janitor that might also be the savior of the universe.

By Chris E. Hayner on Nov 02, 2017 04:13 pm

Super Mario Odyssey Amiibo Costume Guide: Here's What The Figures Unlock In-Game

By Chris Pereira on Nov 02, 2017 04:12 pm

Super Mario Odyssey is a huge, wonderfully designed game brimming with personality. Although it doesn't specifically impact gameplay (for the most part), one new thing it introduces is the ability to dress Mario up in a wide variety of costumes. These range from his wedding outfit to Waluigi's overalls and many others.

Amiibo figures play a part in accessing these costumes, as you can scan select ones to unlock a corresponding outfit in-game. They can also provide various bonuses, such as extra hearts and--in the case of Mario's Amiibo figures--invincibility for 30 seconds. In the video above, we provide a full rundown on what you can get. Be aware that the costumes thankfully aren't exclusive to Amiibo figures--you can unlock everything in-game without owning any.

To scan in an Amiibo you own, you have to speak with the appropriately named Uncle Amiibo. He's the Roomba-looking robot who can typically be found near your ship after completing a kingdom. Speaking with him brings you to a menu where you can scan in your figures--just hold one over the reader on the right Joy-Con (or the middle of the Pro Controller) to do so.

Super Mario Odyssey is out now on Nintendo Switch. It earned a rare 10/10 in our Super Mario Odyssey review, and if you're just getting started we have 10 essential tips as well as six things we wish we knew before starting Odyssey.

Destiny 2's Nightfall Guide: The Arms Dealer Strike Modifiers And Challenges (Yes, Again)

By Chris Pereira on Nov 02, 2017 04:10 pm

Another weekly reset has arrived for Destiny 2, which means it's time for a new Nightfall Strike... except it doesn't. The Flashpoint has moved to the EDZ, but despite the reset, players still have access to the same Nightfall as last week: The Arms Dealer. It features the same exact Challenges but different Modifiers, which is unusual. We do know that a new Destiny 2 update is slated to arrive this week, and it's possible the Nightfall will change following that. We'll update this story if that proves to be the case, but for now we'll look at the Nightfall version of The Arms Dealer.

The time limit is in place and can be extended because of the first of the two modifiers, Timewarp: Killing Time. By slaying enemies, you'll receive additional time--up to a limit--to complete the Strike. The other modifier is Prism, which cycles through each of the damage types. The selected damage deals more than usual, while the others are less effective.

In terms of Challenges, Speed of Dark is active, which asks you to finish the Strike with at least five minutes left on the timer. Unbroken requires you to make it through the mission with fewer than three deaths. And finally, Trash the Thresher tasks you with bringing down a Thresher (the Cabal gunship) during the fight with Bracus Zahn.

The reward for completing the Nightfall is Powerful Gear. This is one of the few activities to offer those, and they're among the best items you can get your hands on. It's also a reliable way to increase your Power level past 265, should you be struggling to pass that point. If you haven't made it to that point, you may want to consider waiting until after you've raised your Power level before grabbing the Nightfall reward. This Nightfall will be available until the next weekly reset, which occurs at 2 AM PT / 5 AM ET / 9 AM GMT / 4 PM AEST on Tuesday, November 7.

The Nightfall is available from the start for the PC version, which is out now. If you haven't yet unlocked the Nightfall, you'll need to complete two Strikes and approach the suggested Power level of 240 before Zavala will allow you to take part in them. Traditional matchmaking is not available, but in its place we have Guided Games, providing players with the opportunity to be matched up with members of a clan for the mission (which requires a Nightfall Ticket). Alternatively, clan members can sign up to serve as guides through the Nightfall. Doing so does not require a Ticket.
