EA has announced the latest batch of games that EA and Origin Access subscribers will soon have free access to. The biggest of the bunch is this year's new entry in the Mass Effect series, Mass Effect: Andromeda.
EA has outlined what members will get for free on Xbox One (with EA Access) and PC (with Origin Access) over the remainder of the year. Both platforms will get the full version of Andromeda "soon," although exact dates were not shared for this or any of the other upcoming Access content. Andromeda was maligned upon its release--at least relative to earlier games in the series--and poor sales have reportedly resulted in changes to its developer and plans for the franchise. While it's still not the game many were hoping for, post-release updates have improved aspects of the game, including its facial animations.
Access members will also receive Play First Trials for two major releases: Star Wars Battlefront II and Need for Speed: Payback. In the case of Battlefront II, EA only says you'll be able to begin playing "before launch day," but it's unclear what you can try and for how long. Payback will be playable ahead of launch for a total of 10 hours, which is fairly standard for these early access trials.
Those on Xbox One also have two additional perks to look forward to in the coming months. Ahead of its launch, EA Access subscribers will be able to try out The Sims 4 through its Play First Trial. Additionally, Dead Space 3 joins the Vault, which EA notes means that the entire Dead Space series is available through EA and Origin Access.
EA and Origin Access are subscription services that provide discounts on digital EA purchases, Play First Trials, and free playable games. Those free games are available for as long as you're a subscriber and entitle you to everything available in the EA / Origin Access Vault, depending on your platform. An equivalent PS4 service is not yet available.
Today at the Oculus Connect 4 event, Facebook detailed two new virtual reality headsets. First, it revealed a standalone VR headset called Oculus Go. It doesn't require a PC or smartphone to work since hardware is built into the headset itself. On top of cutting the cord and and hardware requirement, the Oculus Go will carry a $200 price tag. Development kits will be sent out in November, but Oculus Go is said to release in early 2018.
Oculus Go shares many of the same functionalities as the Samsung Gear VR, which is also developed by Oculus. Gear VR apps will be compatible with Oculus Go from day one and uses the same controller.
As for hardware specs, the details are currently a little sparse, but it uses improved lenses. It features WQHD fast-switch displays with reduced glare and the same field of view as Rift. Spatial audio is also built into the Oculus Go headset; there's no requirement for headphones.
The second reveal was an update to Project Santa Cruz, which is a wireless Oculus VR headset with built-in cameras for positional tracking, eliminating the need for external sensors. Along with the new Santa Cruz controllers--which look very similar to the Touch controllers--the new headset will feature full six-degrees of freedom movement. Development kits are said to be available within a year.
Sony has added a new batch of games to PlayStation Now in Europe. Another 14 PS4 titles are now available on the streaming service, which mostly consist of horror games to help you ring in Halloween.
A single PS3 game also joins the PS Now lineup today. This month's addition is, fittingly, Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut, the updated version of the survival horror game. You can see all of this month's new PS Now games at the bottom of this story. To see everything that's playable, check out our full list of PS Now games.
PS Now is available for PS4 and PC. Players who subscribe to the service have unlimited access to over 500 games, which you can stream for as long as you have an active subscription. It costs $20/£13 to subscribe to the service, though those who are curious about trying it can get a seven-day free trial for first-time users.
The price of quality virtual reality headsets continues to drop. As part of its Oculus Connect event today, Oculus announced that the Rift's price has been cut to $399/£399.
This new price is in effect today--you can head over to the Oculus store right now and add it to your cart for that price. $399/£399 gets you the headset itself, two sensors, two Touch controllers, and seven free games for setting everything up: Lucky's Tale, Medium, Toybox, Quill, Dead and Buried, Dragon Front, and Robo Recall.
Of course, this still may not be the option you're looking for. The Rift requires a PC, but Oculus also today revealed a pair of new VR headsets, including a standalone one that's priced at only $200. We'll report back as more details are shared.
In May, the Rift's feature set expanded to include full room-scale capability and improve tracking for setups with three sensors, which is a requirement for room-scale VR. The $399 bundle comes with two sensors; additional sensors are currently available for $60/£60.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is packed with armor sets for Talion to wear, each with their own unique attributes. But if you're looking for the best armor the game has to offer, then seek out the Legendary sets. These special sets can only be unlocked by killing Legendary orcs or completing specific challenges; each offers their own unique set bonuses that can assist you in myriad ways in your adventure. Microsoft's new Xbox One X console is set to launch around the world in a little less than a month, but those who are more interested in picking up an Xbox One S have a few new options to choose from. Today, Microsoft announced four new Xbox One S bundles that pack in a white 500 GB console with some great titles or other bonuses.
First is the Minecraft Complete Adventure Bundle, which will be on sale at retailers "in select markets" for $279/£229. Along with the console, the bundle includes a wireless controller, a download code for the popular sandbox game, a code for the complete first season of Minecraft: Story Mode, and a code for the Minecraft Explorer's DLC Pack. Those who pick up this bundle will also get a three-month subscription to Xbox Live Gold and a one-month trial for Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft's Netflix-style game streaming service. Microsoft is also still offering a great-looking limited edition Minecraft bundle for $399 that includes a 1 TB Xbox One S with a custom grass block design and other Minecraft extras.
Those who prefer shooters can pick up the Xbox One S Ultimate Halo bundle. It likewise retails for $279 and is exclusive to Walmart stores in the US. Along with the console and controller, the bundle includes digital copies of Halo 5: Guardians and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. On top of that, it comes with a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial and a one-month Xbox Game Pass membership.
Europe is also receiving its own exclusive bundle in the form of the Rocket League Blast-Off Bundle. It retails for £229 and, along with the console and a wireless controller, includes a download code for Rocket League, a three-month Xbox Live Gold subscription, and a one-month Xbox Game Pass trial.
If none of those pack-in titles appeals to you, Microsoft is also releasing an Xbox One S Starter bundle. Like the other bundles, it retails for $279/£229 and comes with the system, a wireless controller, and three months of both Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass. You can purchase the bundle from Microsoft stores or other retailers.
One of the best aspects of FIFA 18 is how it evolves and updates over the year, and today EA has added a cool feature to Ultimate Team. You can now play with a friend in FUT Online Seasons and Online Draft.
The ability to play local co-op against an online opponent in the two modes was present in FIFA 17 but was removed from FIFA 18 "to create competitive balance for all players." This sparked a substantial negative reaction from the community, who even started a petition in an attempt to convince EA to restore the feature. Thankfully, the publisher has reversed its decision and you can now play with a friend once more.
"We have heard your feedback about guest functionality in FUT Online Seasons and FUT Online Draft and are happy to announce that we have added this functionality back into FIFA 18 PS4 / Xbox One / PC effective immediately," the company said. No update is required to enable the feature as EA was able to implement it on the server side. However, a future patch will add some "on-screen elements" to make things clearer. For now, you just have to press Triangle / Y after you get matched with an opponent and a second player will be added to your team.
This year's edition was also released on Switch, but in our FIFA 18 Nintendo Switch review we said the port is "inferior" in nearly every way when compared to the PS4 and Xbox One versions. For more on this season's soccer games, check out our comparison of FIFA 18 vs PES 2018.
As promised, the latest batch of Destiny 2 server maintenance has brought with it a new update. Despite the fact that it contains only a single fix, it's one that many players will be extremely happy to get their hands on.
Update 1.0.3.2 is out now on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (which refers to the download as update 1.07). It's quite small in size, but it deals with the longstanding issue of crashes when loading into The Tower social space--something that has affected players since launch. Bungie didn't provide any additional commentary regarding the fix beyond what you see in the brief patch notes below. It's possible the issue could persist for some, but any improvement will be welcomed by those who have found themselves having to repeatedly restart the game because of a crash.
Server maintenance for Destiny 2 is ongoing, although that shouldn't impact your ability to play. However, if you were online when update 1.0.3.2 was released, you may need to close out of the game and restart it in order to download the patch.
One issue this patch does not address is the exploit that forced Bungie to delay the Prestige Leviathan Raid. It was slated to release on October 10 but has been pushed back until October 18 because of a bug that "causes the encounters to be stripped of their intended challenge." Given that Prestige is intended to be a harder version of the Raid--and is something teams will race to be the first one to complete--Bungie opted to push back the launch in order to ensure the Raid works properly. Iron Banner is live, however, with a variety of new rewards.
Destiny 2 Hotfix 1.0.3.2 Patch Notes
General
Fixed an issue that was causing crashes while loading into the Tower
We've seen a number of Destiny 2 maintenance periods take the game's servers offline since its release. Today will see maintenance occur once again, but according to Bungie, it shouldn't impact your ability to play the game. [Update: Bungie has released Destiny 2 update 1.0.3.2, which addresses Tower crashes.]
Server maintenance begins at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 4 PM BST today, October 11 (2 AM AEDT on October 12). It's set to run for six hours, ending at 2 PM PT, but "no downtime is expected," Bungie says. As part of this process, Bungie will roll out a new update, hotfix 1.0.3.2.
Given the version number, this is likely to be a bug-fix patch rather than one that introduces any major new feature. Specific details about what it does have not yet been revealed, but we'll report back as soon as the patch notes are released. We don't know exactly when to expect those, but Bungie says the hotfix itself should be available at around 8:15 AM PT.
It's possible the patch is related to the upcoming Prestige Leviathan Raid. This harder version of the Raid was set to launch on October 10, only for it to be delayed until next week due to an exploit that allowed players to make encounters easier than intended. The Prestige Raid now launches on October 18.
A major update is on the way for Civilization VI. Although we don't yet have the full patch notes, developer Firaxis has provided a rundown on many of the major changes that fans can expect.
Most significantly, the Fall 2017 Update, as it's called, overhauls religion. It adds two new Pantheons and new Founder, Follower, Enhancer, and Worship beliefs. Those can in turn unlock other new things: specifically, two buildings and a combat unit called the Warrior Monk.
"We also heard your requests for a deeper overall experience--and took that to heart with revamped religious combat," Firaxis said on its website. With this update, religious units can receive Flank and Support bonuses during combat, and they can exert Zone of Control. The Guru unit also gains the ability to heal other religious units.
Civilization VI's user interface also sees some improvements, both as it pertains to religion and otherwise. The Religion Lens has been improved for "overall usability and readability," and unit flags gain religion indicators. Additionally, updated Diplomacy screens should now make it easier to find the information you need; Gossip messages have been improved by removing "the least useful" ones, which should allow important ones to be more visible; the Espionage screen shows icons for capitals when choosing a mission; Great People's art "has been updated to feel more 'great;'" and other changes should make menus "more moddable and extensible."
One notable change to how games play out involves the sea. Firaxis has improved the way AI handles building and employing naval units, fleets, and armadas; it should now be smarter about healing naval units and using them to launch coastal assaults.
A release date for the Fall 2017 Update has not been announced, but Firaxis says it's "coming soon." It also teases that more changes are in store for the patch; we'll report back once we have more details.
The first trailer for Pacific Rim Uprising, the upcoming sci-fi sequel to Guillermo Del Toro's 2014 sci-fi action hit, arrived last week. It has now been reported that the property might be expanded into a full cinematic universe.
Director Steven S. DeKnight spoke to Nerdist and was asked about the possibility of more movies. "I'm certainly hoping so," he said. "I think you'll definitely probably get more comics. The plan was always to use this movie as a launching pad. If enough people show up to this, we've already talked about the plot of the third movie, and how the end of the third movie would expand the universe to a Star Wars/Star Trek-style [franchise] where you can go in many, many different directions.
"You can go main canon, you can go spin-offs, you can go one-offs. Yeah, that's the plan. And I would love to see an animated TV show based on this."
The first-ever Iron Banner event in Destiny 2 is now underway. And while some of the core elements remain the same as in the original Destiny--it's a highly competitive Crucible mode that's only available for a limited time--things are a quite a bit different than you remember.
Aside from the most obvious change--Iron Banner is now 4v4, like all other Crucible game types--another major point of distinction is that it no longer takes into account your Power level. That means the playing field has been leveled; you don't have to ensure you have your highest level equipment on in order to be most effective.
In the video above, you can check out some gameplay from the just-launched Iron Banner event, where we did some damage despite having a Power level of only 11. It's open to all players, although there are some requirements before you can jump in. According to Bungie, you have to complete the campaign and reach level 20, which is the baseline for accessing many of Destiny 2's activities. Provided you've done both of those things, you can head to the Tower and speak with Lord Saladin, who unlocks Iron Banner as a Crucible playlist. However, we were able to jump into Iron Banner with a character who had only reached level 9--possibly because we'd met the requirements with another character on our account.
Whatever the case, once you're in, participating in Iron Banner nets you Iron Banner Tokens--win or lose, though winning will get you more. Daily Challenges and Milestones provide additional Tokens, and all of these can be turned in for rewards from Shaxx. You can see all of the Iron Banner weapons, armor, and gear rewards in our gallery.
Iron Banner runs from now until the next weekly reset, on October 17. Bungie has not said how often we can expect the event to show up, but you can expect it to be a semi-regular event for Crucible players. Maintenance is scheduled for October 11, but it shouldn't impact your ability to play--though it will deliver a new hotfix update.
Splatoon 2 has continued to evolve since its launch this summer, and now it's changed once again. The Nintendo Switch shooter has been updated to version 1.4.0, and the latest patch brings with it a bunch of bug fixes, as well as some balance tweaks.
For example, the Charger weapon can now maintain a charged up shot if you swim into ink and then transform back into human form. The Roller has also been adjusted, and the knock-back distance has been reduced when you hit a player while you're lacking ink or when the Roller is in mid-air. Lots of weapons and abilities have received various damage balance buffs and nerfs--check them all out in the patch notes at the bottom of this article, via Nintendo.
Previously when going down in rank while rank S+1 or higher, players could drop to S+0 all at once. This drop is now limited to a maximum of five ranks levels.
In conjunction with the above change, maintaining current rank from S+0 to S+49 will now require the rank meter to stay at least 50% full (was previously 40%).
Changes To Salmon Run
Fixed an issue causing certain combinations of main and special weapons to not appear, though they had been among the four supplied for that session of Salmon Run.
Fixed an issue causing players in life preserver form positioned near the edge of a stage to fall through the stage when super jumping to the starting point or to the Grizzco ship at the end of a wave.
Fixed an issue when hunting for a Goldie, causing its size and the location of the Golden Eggs it drops when defeated to appear differently to different players.
Fixed an issue allowing a Flyfish's missle launcher to be destroyed when hit with a bomb just as it closed, although the bomb hadn't gone inside.
Fixed an issue causing players swimming on walls to take damage continuously when attacked by a Chum, Smallfry, or Cohock.
Fixed an issue preventing ink from a Slosher from reviving allied players in life preserver form at point-blank range.
Fixed an issue that gave both pieces of gear the same randomly assigned gear abilities when receiving the current and previous month's Limited-Time Bonus gear simultaneously.
Changes To Spectator Mode
Fixed an issue causing incorrect animations to play when objects other than players, such as Inkrails or Splash Walls were damaged while viewing a particular player's perspective.
The sound effect that plays when taking damage during regular play now also plays when viewing that player's perspective in spectator mode.
Other Changes
Fixed issues while creating posts in which 1)lines drawn outside of the frame and then back into the frame failed to properly appear and 2)the "undo" function failed to work properly.
Fixed an issue when testing weapons in which coming into contact with one of the targets immediately after performing a vertical swing with a roller failed to deal contact damage.
Fixed an issue when testing weapons in which coming into contact with one of the targets continuously with a Brella-type weapon incorrectly only damaged the target once.
Fixed an issue occurring when exceeding the number of displayable League Battle results caused recent results to not be displayed instead of the oldest results.
Updating to Ver.1.4.0 will disable wireless matchmaking for local multiplayer with players using Ver.1.3.0
Changes To Multiplayer
Fixed an issue where, under the following conditions, players would only receive the benefit of Ink Resistance Up when stacking it to maximum effect.
Moving while shooting a weapon in the Shooter category.
Moving while shooting a weapon in the Dualie category.
Moving while preparing to throw a bomb or sub weapon.
When storing a charged shot with a Charger, swimming into enemy ink and being returned to kid form now allows you to maintain the charge you had stored.
Fixed an issue preventing players using a Charger from shooting when pressing ZR again after releasing the button once a stored charged shot had expired.
Decreased the knock back distance when coming into contact with a roller that has run out of ink or is in mid-air.
Fixed an issue causing the aiming reticule to display outside the center of the screen when moving the camera and using a Roller or Brella-type weapon.
Fixed an issue causing Brellas to shoot in an off-center direction when shooting them while moving the camera.
Fixed an issue causing a discrepancy in movement speed while trying to shoot a Brella-type weapon with no ink remaining, as opposed to shooting a Brella with ink in the ink tank.
Fixed an issue causing Slosher-type weapons to shoot ink from a higher position than they appeared to.
Fixed an issue occasionally allowing opposing players standing behind a Splash Wall to be splatted when a bomb hit the edge of the wall.
Fixed an issue causing Curling Bombs to lose speed inappropriately when thrown on sloping surfaces.
Fixed an issue causing bombs not to ink the floor when exploding at the very edge of a stage.
Fixed an issue causing the predicted range of the sub weapon to incorrectly display when readying an Ink Storm special while also equipped with either a Point Sensor or Toxic Mist sub weapon.
Fixed an issue causing the inking effect of an Ink Storm special to occur unnaturally when the storm intersected with a roof or other similar object in a stage.
Bubbles from the Bubble Blower that burst after the end of a match will no longer ink the stage.
Fixed an issue causing movement speed while firing the Bubble Blower to vary depending on which main weapon was equipped.
In Rainmaker mode, equipping weapons such as the E-liter 4K and Dynamo Roller will no longer lower movement and swim speed while holding the Rainmaker.
Fixed an issue in Rainmaker Mode in which splatting a player holding the Rainmaker while they were jumping caused the Rainmaker to reappear not in its fixed location, but where the player had started their jump.
Fixed an issue in The Reef causing Suction Bombs and other objects thrown onto the area around the central bridge to sink inside it.
Fixed an issue in Inkblot Art Academy causing players readying a Roller or Brella at specific locations in the stage to fall through it.
Fixed an issue in Moray Towers causing players who fell off the stage near its center to fall faster than in other stages.
Fixed an issue in Manta Maria allowing players to enter into certain pillars in the stage.

The Predator is the much-anticipated reboot of the classic '80s sci-fi action movie, and it's due for release in August next year. A few on-set images emerged while the movie was in production, but there has been very little news about the film since then.
However, the first promotional art has now been revealed. A poster was spotted on Fox's display stand at the Brand Licensing Europe Expo in London, and while it doesn't exactly give much away, it does seem to support the rumors that the movie might have a suburban setting. Check it out below, via Instagram user Dirtees:
The Predator was originally set to arrive in March, but will now hit theaters on August 3. It's directed by Shane Black, who previously made Iron Man 3 and last year's comedy thriller The Nice Guys. It stars Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, Logan), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu, Key & Peele), Sterling K. Brown (The People v. OJ Simpson), Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), and Jacob Tremblay (Room).
"I think that they came to me knowing pretty much that... they said, basically, if I wanted to make Predator but treat it like it was Iron Man 3 instead of just another little movie. I said, 'Let's really do it right this time.'"
Bethesda has released a new trailer for The Evil Within 2 that, in its own words, features some of the "unspeakable horrors" main character Sebastian Castellanos will face in the game. Admittedly, the trailer is full of some really gnarly sights, including a little girl that seems to have been flayed.
That little girl is key to the story of The Evil Within 2 and Sebastian's overall goal. "Sebastian's mission is personal," Bethesda explains. "He's searching for his daughter Lily, who he thought he had lost many years ago, and it's now a race against time as the world crumbles around him. Sebastian must rescue Lily before everything falls apart and they are both lost in STEM."
For those that might need a refresher, STEM is a strange world that can be manipulated by certain individuals within it. Usually, these individuals are inclined towards the gruesome and macabre, which is why everything is real gross in there.
"The real horror may be the human monsters trapped inside, with the twisted photographer Stefano and the 'righteous' priest Theodore both intent on warping the weakened system to their will," Bethesda continues.
Bethesda has also announced a new charity campaign themed around The Evil Within 2. Titled "The Good Within," the fundraising campaign is raising money on CrowdRise to support the American Red Cross's disaster and humanitarian relief efforts globally.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds continues to grow, toppling milestone after milestone. It's left Dota 2--and everything else on Steam--in the dust in terms of players, and today it became the first game ever to top 2 million concurrent players on the platform.
Steam's stats page highlights both the current number of players online in a game at any time, as well as its daily peak. Since it first surpassed Dota 2 back in August, PUBG has gone on to break the all-time Steam record for concurrent players. 2 million looked likely recently, and now that record now stands at 2,016,498, as of this writing--though you can probably assume that won't last for long. The figure has increased several times just in the course of this story being written. According to SteamDB's unofficial figures, PUBG sales stand at about 15.6 million copies.
Despite being an Early Access game, PUBG has enjoyed unprecedented success since its launch earlier this year. A full release is slated for sometime later this year, as is an Xbox One version. We may also see PUBG eventually end up on PS4, although no official announcements have been made on that front as of yet. Microsoft has described the game as a "console launch exclusive," suggesting it could eventually come to other platforms. Perhaps in light of the game's popularity on PC, Microsoft is reportedly working to extend PUBG's Xbox One exclusivity period.
The first trailer for the new season of The X-Files is here. The eleventh season of the hugely popular sci-fi mystery show is set to air in 2018, with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning as FBI agents Mulder and Scully.
The trailer premiered at New York Comic-Con and is now online. It suggests that the paranormal dangers that Mulder and Scully will face are even more dramatic than usual--check it out below:
During the X-Files panel at NYCC, Anderson suggested that this might be her final outing as Scully. "I think this will be it for me," she said, via ScreenRant. She went on to explain her reasons for returning after so long. "It felt like it wasn't over. It didn't feel like we necessarily deliver everything the fans were expecting of us last time, and so it was that."
The X-Files originally ran for nine years, and clocked up 202 episodes between 1993 and 2002. By the time the last of those original seasons had ended, it had become the longest-running consecutive sci-fi series ever on US broadcast TV. There were also two spin-off movies: 1998's The X-Files: Fight the Future, and The X-Files: I Want to Believe in 2008.
Sylvester Stallone has been teasing fans about the sequel to the hit Rocky spin-off Creed for a few months with casting news and a potential production start date. The star has now revealed who will direct Creed 2--Stallone himself.
The action icon took to Instagram to announce the news. This confirms that Creed director and co-writer Ryan Coogler won't be involved with the sequel, as Stallone has already stated that he has written the movie's script. Check the post out below:
A post shared by Sly Stallone (@officialslystallone) on
While Stallone only acted in Creed, he had written every other Rocky movie until then, and directed four of the films. The movie will see Michael B. Jordan return to the title role, with Stallone expected to play Rocky once more.
In July, Stallone also suggested that fellow action star Dolph Lundgren will reprise his role as Russian heavyweight Ivan Drago, last seen in 1985's Rocky IV. At that time Stallone posted a series vintage shots of Lundgren from the set of Rocky IV, each one tagged with 'CREED 2.' Lundgren himself largely confirmed this news when he posted a training video, with the caption, "Getting ready for something big! #creed 2."
Stallone won a Golden Globe for his performance as the aging Rocky Balboa in Creed, as well as receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The movie made $173.6 million at the worldwide box office.
In related news, Coogler's Marvel movie Black Panther hits theaters in February. Chadwick Boseman plays the title character, with Jordan in a supporting role. For a look at that, check out the latest Black Panther trailer.
While it's always positive news when games that might easily remain exclusive to Japan are localized for international markets, fans rightly expect the accompanying translation to not be plagued with issues. That unfortunately hasn't proven to be the case with Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, which debuted last month in North America and Europe following its 2016 release in Japan. The president of NIS America, which published the game outside of Japan and handled the translation, has now acknowledged and apologized for the English script's problems.
We made note of the mediocre translation in our Ys VIII review, and fans have continued to point out problems with it since then. Some of the errors are downright hilarious, as evidenced by the screenshots from Imgur below--"Big Hole" is just an incredible name for something. But in other cases, this could actually have a real impact on gameplay, as one Twitter user reported that item descriptions were mixed up--thus confusing what effect using them would have. Perhaps worse yet, fans raised concerns about the translation ahead of the game's release.
NIS America has not shied away from the problems. "It has come to my attention that the quality of the Ys VIII localization has not reached an acceptable level by our own standards, but most importantly by yours," president and CEO Takuro Yamashita said in a statement received by GameSpot. "As president of NIS America, Inc. I want to apologize to you personally for this grave error. This situation should not have happened-- especially to a game as wonderful as Ys VIII and by a company that strives to deliver the very best customer experience in each title."
In addition to the apology, Yamashita said that NIS will figure out how this happened and fix the game in the near future. "We have begun internally to investigate the causes of this situation as well as to implement steps to ensure that a similar situation does not occur again," he said. "As for Ys VIII itself, we will have a new translator and editor go over the entire localization to fix grammatical errors, typos, inconsistencies, and also to take a fresh look at the dialog and characterizations. For the script, where necessary, we will re-translate and re-edit the game including updating voicework to reflect these changes."
For an RPG with a good amount of text, that's no simple task, and it will take some time. NIS expects to have the matter resolved by the end of November. The new localization will be released as a free update on PS4 and Vita, and it will be available in the PC version (which does not yet have a release date) once it launches on Steam.
"We humbly request your patience in this process," the statement concludes. "Again, as the president and CEO of NIS America, Inc, I deeply apologize and vow to you that we will bring the quality of the localization of Ys VIII up to the high standards that it and you deserve. Please allow us this opportunity to restore your faith in NIS America."
If you play Nintendo Switch games online, your usual gaming schedule may be disrupted this week. Nintendo is performing maintenance on its online services, which may become unavailable.
The first batch of maintenance concerns Splatoon 2 specifically. Nintendo says "all network services" in the game will be unavailable for around 90 minutes from 5:50 PM PT / 8:50 PM ET tonight--that's 1:50 AM BST or 10:50 AET on Wednesday, October 11 if you're in the UK or Australia. Online play of some other games will be affected for the same period of time. More maintenance will follow later in the week; check out the full schedule below.
Although Nintendo doesn't specify which other games could be affected by the maintenance, it's safer not to expect service in online games such as Arms and FIFA 18. The former is getting a new update--and probably a new character--soon, while the latter came out just recently to a mixed reception.
Ubisoft has finally revealed its plans for Assassin's Creed Origins' post-launch content. The game will receive two major expansions after its October release date, in addition to a number of smaller add-ons, some of which will be free.
The two main DLC packs are called The Hidden Ones and The Curse of the Pharaohs. The former will launch in January 2018 and is set many years after the base game as you clash with the Romans in a new region. The latter, meanwhile, will introduce a "a new, mystical realm" in which you'll encounter "beasts such as Anubis warriors, scorpios, and more" as you investigate the curse that has resurrected dead Pharaohs. The Curse of the Pharaohs launches in March next year.
The two story expansions are included in Assassin's Creed Origins' season pass, which costs $40 in the US (international pricing has yet to be announced). That also bags you two smaller add-ons--each containing new outfits and weapons--as well as 500 in-game credits and an exclusive weapon. Check out everything included in the season pass at the bottom of this article, via Ubisoft.
Origins' Gold Edition and Steelbook Edition contain the season pass for no extra cost, though many of the game's other special editions do not include all added content. For more, check out our breakdown of all six Assassin's Creed special editions. Separate from the season pass, Assassin's Creed Origins will receive an array of free content, including a Photo Mode, an Educational Mode, and a Horde Mode that sees players "fight endless waves of enemies in the Gladiator Arena."
DLC 1 - The Hidden Ones: This story-driven expansion builds upon the growth of the Brotherhood, taking players years after the events of Assassin's Creed Origins as they clash with an occupying Roman force in a new region. DLC 2 - The Curse of the Pharaohs: In this story-driven expansion focusing on Egyptian mythology, players will fight against undead pharaohs and explore a new, mystical realm. The Curse of the Pharaohs will increase the level cap further and introduce brand new Abilities. Available in March 2018.

Those looking to fill the gaping, Dark Souls-shaped hole in their lives have been keeping a close eye on Bandai Namco's Code Vein. Dubbed "anime Dark Souls" by many, it draws heavy influence from From Software's acclaimed Souls series, most notably in its difficulty. Check out the Code Vein Tokyo Game Show trailer if you want to see how it's also borrowing some of the mood and feel too.
GameSpot recently got some hands-on time with the English build of Code Vein, which is similar to the one shown at Tokyo Game Show but features a little extra time to explore and the opportunity to face a boss. Of course, we captured our experience for your viewing pleasure.
We weren't given an indication of how far into the game the section we were exploring was, but with the suite of powers, gifts, and equipment, I get the feeling that it's not the start of the game. The above gameplay has a few deaths and backtracking edited out, so enjoy 13 minutes of uninterrupted monster killing.
The fearsome Queen's Knight boss, as you've no doubt gathered, can be quite tricky. However, I managed to bring her down--albeit on my eighth attempt. Since the Queen's Knight is very aggressive, I opted to use my buffs and saved as many healing items as I could before stepping into the fray. Check out the fight below.
We'll have more from Code Vein soon, so if you've enjoyed what you've seen so far then make sure you keep your eye on GameSpot for more coverage.
Code Vein is slated to release in early 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. We recently learned that it will not have an easier difficulty setting; instead, players will be able to freely change their character's stats during the course of the game to adapt to new challenges.
The money-to-time ratio isn't the only way you can judge if a game is worth your hard-earned cash, but it's certainly an important one. And the latest Humble Bundle is all about maximizing the bang for your buck--it features a bunch of games that'll take up a lot of your time.
The Humble Endless RPG Lands Bundle features some great games like Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Guild of Dungeoneering. Additionally, as with all Humble Bundles, they're heavily discounted--you can pay what you want and receive at least one game. You can unlock more games if you pay more and cross higher tiers.
Notably, with this Humble Bundle, the average playtimes for each game are listed, as well. This way, you can get a good idea of how much time you can expect to invest in the titles. Borderlands players, for example, average about 30 hours played, while Wurm Unlimited players log an outrageous 142 hours on average.
As with all Humble Bundles, you can allocate some of your payment to charity. This bundle's featured charity is the National Videogame Museum. The bundle is available from now until Otober 24. You can see the full breakdown of everything that's included below, and you can buy the bundle here.

If you've been wanting an excuse to jump back into Final Fantasy XIV, today's a good day. The game's latest patch, The Legend Returns, is available now, and it adds a substantial amount of new content.
The patch's most significant addition is a new sequence of quests that extends FFXIV's main story. Square Enix has done a good job of expanding on the narratives of the main characters long after the game's release, and these quests continue the trend, following Lyse after the liberation of Ala Mhigo.
The 4.1 update also adds a big new alliance raid, called Return to Ivalice, which involves an airship, the land of Ivalice, and some cool-looking creatures. Further, the patch comes with The Drowned City of Skalla dungeon.
There's also now player housing in Shirogane, and any player could relocate their current housing to the new location. However, housing plots were extremely limited, with only 720 spots per server opened up. That meant that the best housing plots were taken almost immediately upon the update going live.
You can check out some scenes from the update in the trailer above. This is the latest major content update since the game's big expansion, Stormblood, was released in June.
Tekken 7 is one of the most high-profile fighting games to be released this year, especially since it's the latest entry in the storied Tekken series. It was received favorably by critics, and now we know that it's done pretty well commercially, too.
On Twitter, game director Katsuhiro Harada revealed that Tekken 7 has now passed 2 million in sales on PS4 and Xbox One since it launched in June. Add in the 300,000 copies sold on Steam, and Tekken 7 has moved 2.3 million copies across all platforms.
Rockstar Games has announced all the new content, deals, and special events happening in GTA V's multiplayer mode, Grand Theft Auto Online, this week. The centrepiece of the new content is the Buckingham Pyro airplane. It's equipped with twin machine guns, and you can upgrade it extensively with things like liveries, armour, and missiles.
In terms of deals, the Fort Zancudo Hangar 3499 property is 25 percent off, as is the Thomson Scrapyard Bunker. Additionally, Bunker renovation options are 25 percent off. All of these offers are good through October 16.
A handful of vehicles are also 25 percent off, including Ultralight, Rocket Voltic, Lampadati Tropos Rallye, and the armoured Kuruma. Additionally, upgrades from Benny's are 25 percent off.
This week's GTA Online premium race and time trial schedule has also been announced. This week's premium race is the stunt race Raton, and it's locked to Super. The time trial event this week is Raton Canyon. As always, the top three finishers in premium races get GTA$, while everyone receives triple RP no matter how they finished. For the time trial, beating the par time will reward you with GTA$ and RP.
Rockstar has also announced a big new update for GTA Online coming this fall that will introduce Transform races, which changes your vehicle's class depending on what terrain a particular takes the form of. You can read more about the fall update here.
Activision released a new video today showing off Destiny's primary traversal vehicles, Sparrows, made in real life but with a twist. In the video below, you can see stunt performers zip across California's Shasta Lake on custom-made Sparrows that are actually converted water bikes.
Activision says it spent two months researching and developing the real life Sparrows. They can apparently reach a top speed of 25mph on water and climb to 20 feet up.
The stunt performers in the video are Ryan Williams and Black "Bilko" Williams of Nitro Circus. Also featured is the "hydro flight athlete" Joey Natale, along with other members of Hydro Circus' stunt team.
To promote this year's much-anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Disney went all out with a dramatic and over-the-top event last night in Sydney, Australia. The company put a 60-meter version of Kylo Ren's lightsaber in the sky over the Sydney Harbour. If you didn't know what was happening, it was probably a strange sight to behold. The lightsaber, which was suspended by a helicopter, featured 10,800 hand-soldered LEDs to create the strong red light that could be seen throughout the harbour, according to Punkee.
Disney also used "optical imaging technology" to project an image that could be seen in 360 degrees to alert fans, of course, to the fact that tickets are now available. You can check out the official Star Wars video below to see the lightsaber and more in action. Twitter is ablaze with awesome images and videos from the marketing event, too, so you can go see all of those here.
