Marvel's Cloak And Dagger TV Show Gets Stylish First Trailer

By Dan Auty on Mar 02, 2018 12:17 am

The first trailer for the upcoming Marvel show Cloak and Dagger has been released. The show premieres on June 6 on Freeform, the channel previously known as ABC Family. It focuses on a pair of runaway teenagers who are given super powers after they are fed a dangerous drug.

This first teaser doesn't have any dialogue, but uses an interesting split screen effect to highlight the two heroes' contrasting powers--Cloak controls the power of darkness, while Dagger throws deadly blades of pure light. It shows them living on the streets, committing small crimes to survive, and slowly coming to terms with their abilities. Check it out below:

Cloak and Dagger stars former Disney star Olivia Holt (Ultimate Spider-Man) as Tandy Bowen (aka Dagger), and Aubrey Joseph (Run All Night) as Tyrone Johnson (aka Cloak). The first season will feature 10 episodes.

Although the show is technically part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, like many of Marvel's TV shows, it is not expected to have much crossover with the studio's movies or other series. In July last year, Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb told The Hollywood Reporter that while Hulu's similarly-themed teen superhero show Runaways was part of the same connected universe, we shouldn't expect to see any interaction between the characters, even though they sometimes appeared together in Marvel's comic books.

Cloak and Dagger were created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan, and first appeared in a 1982 issue of The Spectacular Spider-Man. A successful four-issue limited series was followed by an ongoing bi-monthly comic book in 1985, and the characters have appeared in a variety of titles over the decades.

Black Panther's Chadwick Boseman Surprises Fans In The Best Way

By Chris E. Hayner on Mar 02, 2018 12:05 am

If you need a little pick me up, look no further than the Black Panther. In addition to saving his home country of Wakanda--and the world--the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero is also giving thanks to the fans that have made Black Panther such a successful movie.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show, Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman surprised fans who explained why they were so thankful to see him portrayed as a superhero on-screen--including one who admitted to bootlegging the film. "For me, as the mother of a young son, my son's childhood has been defined by Barack Obama and now Black Panther," one fan says without realizing Boseman is actually listening. "So thank you."

It's clear that the actor is as touched by what the fans have to say as they were by the movie itself. While he surprised many of them with a joke, it's the final fan--a woman who praises the movie's strong female characters--that elicits the most emotional response as Boseman offers a simple "Wakanda forever" in his T'Challa accent before shaking the woman's hand and giving her a hug.

As it turns out, Wakanda forever is an appropriate sentiment for the film. Heading into its third weekend, Black Panther has amassed over $700 million at the worldwide box office and is already the third biggest domestic film in the MCU--behind Marvel's The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. It will took top Ultron, sliding into the number two slot.

Justice League Co-Director Zack Snyder Mocks Superman's Weird Mustache CGI

By Dan Auty on Mar 01, 2018 11:15 pm

Last year's DC superhero team-up Justice League was a disappointment on many levels--from the terrible reviews and fan indifference to the woeful box office that lost Warner a reported $50 million. But there is one element that the movie will be remembered for--Superman actor Henry Cavill's mustache, which had to be removed by CGI. Now Justice League co-director Zack Snyder has himself poked fun at the terrible VFX that gave Cavill his bizarre top lip.

Snyder posted an image of himself with a scruffy beard on the social media platform Vero, where he frequently posts pictures and interacts with fans. Snyder accompanied the image with a suggestion that he needs to shave, to which one fan inevitably replied "you could just remove it via CGI." Synder's reply? "We all know that doesn't work."

Snyder had in fact quit the production of Justice League by the time the mustache issue came up. He left the movie in May 2017 following the tragic death of his daughter, with Avengers director Joss Whedon taking over reshoots and post-production.

By the time additional footage of Cavill was required, the actor was already in production on the upcoming Mission Impossible: Fallout, for which he is sporting an impressive 'tache. With Mission Impossible producers Paramount unwilling to let the actor shave for the Justice League reshoots, Warner was left with no option but to attempt to remove it in post-production.

Although Justice League was a box office failure, there are still plenty of other DC movies in the works. Aquaman hits theaters in November, and Shazam is now in production. Beyond that, Wonder Woman 2 will be released in November 2019, and Suicide Squad 2 is expected to start shooting later this year.

Fortnite Update's Patch Notes Released, Servers Back Online

By Oscar Dayus on Mar 01, 2018 11:05 pm

After a period of downtime, Fortnite's servers are back online, bringing a new update to the game on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Update 3.1.0 brings a new point of interest to Battle Royale, as well as a new gun, the hunting rifle. Save the World, meanwhile, expands with a new weapon of its own: the Dragonfire auto-shotgun.

The new point of interest is called Lucky Landing, located on the southern edge of the island, and you can take a look at it below. Elsewhere the drop rates of various guns have been adjusted: you're 20% less likely to find a common burst assault rifle, for example, but 150% more likely to find a rare one than before. Some loot drops have been tweaked too; fewer chests will appear in Snobby Shores, Tilted Towers, and Industrial Plot from now on.

No Caption Provided

This patch was supposed to see the introduction of jetpacks, but those have been delayed to an unknown date due to a design issue that developer Epic discovered very late on. See everything that was included in the new update in the patch notes below, via Epic.

Following last week's 3.0.0 update, Season 3 of Fortnite: Battle Royale is now underway, giving players a new Battle Pass and rewards to unlock. This season's Battle Pass features 30 additional tiers--you can see all of the new Battle Royale rewards there are to unlock in our gallery. Players can also take part in Fortnite: Battle Royale's latest limited-time mode, Solid Gold. Finally, you can currently grab some free Fortnite items with Twitch Prime.

PS4's Detroit: Become Human Release Date Confirmed

By Oscar Dayus on Mar 01, 2018 11:04 pm

Sony has revealed Detroit: Become Human's release date for PlayStation 4. The narrative game, developed by Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls studio Quantic Dream, will launch worldwide on May 25 this year.

This is the first time Sony has mentioned a release date for the game; the company had previously stated "spring 2018," and before that, David Cage had only said "2018." Some people believed the game would launch last year after a PlayStation sizzle reel listed it as part of the platform's 2017 releases. However, Sony's president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, later stated the listing was a mistake.

Detroit has been no stranger to controversy throughout its development. The game touches on real-world issues such as terrorism and domestic abuse, and its developer, Quantic Dream, recently denied allegations of a poor studio culture and harassment.

The game itself tells the story of a group of androids coming to terms with their newfound sentience. You control three separate characters and can guide them in their journey by making decisions along the way, in a similar way to some of Quantic Dream's previous games. For more, check out some Detroit: Become Human gameplay or our thoughts on how a preview build attempted to tackle some difficult issues.

Nintendo Switch One Year Later: 5 Wii U Games That Deserve A Second Chance

By Peter Brown on Mar 01, 2018 09:30 pm

One year after launching Switch, Nintendo is enjoying its regained popularity. The console-handheld hybrid continues to fly off of shelves, and it's no doubt due to the incredible selection of games available--including the likes of Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, our (any many other websites') favorite game of 2017.

Switch's popularity has also been bolstered by great ports of some of the most popular Wii U games. We've already got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken Tournament DX, and Bayonetta 2, but anyone familiar with the Wii U library knows that's merely scratching the surface of what's possible.

A port of Super Smash Bros. feels like a guarantee--the sort of game that stirs up a lot of excitement and attention among Nintendo's player base. Looking beyond the obvious choice, however, Nintendo could give also give RPGs like Xenoblade Chronicles X and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE a second chance at success, as they would benefit greatly from being made portable, let alone available on a console that people are eager fill with games.

There are plenty of games that could fit the bill, but if we were forced to pick five Wii U games to transition to Switch, we know exactly what we'd pick. Take a look at the video above for our choices and why we believe they'd be right at home on Switch. And if you have any suggestions for games we might have missed, give them a shout out in the comments below.

Check Out Overwatch's New Hero, Brigitte, In Action

By Kevin Knezevic on Mar 01, 2018 09:15 pm

After weeks of cryptic teases, Blizzard has finally unveiled the newest character for Overwatch, and as many have speculated, it's Brigitte. Torbjörn's daughter marks the 27th character to join the roster, and she comes with a few unique tricks to help set her apart from the other support heroes in the game.

Blizzard describes Brigitte as "an engineer with peerless armor-constructing abilities," and those characteristics shine through in her abilities on the battlefield. Her primary weapon is the Rocket Flail, which has an extended range and can smash multiple opponents at once. In addition to that, she brandishes a Barrier Shield, which can protect any teammates directly behind her. She can also toss Repair Packs to heal teammates, while her passive ability, Inspire, heals nearby allies over time when she lands blows on enemies.

These skills combine to make Brigitte a rather unique addition to the Overwatch roster, acting like a mixture of Reinhardt and her father. While she isn't available in the live game just yet, PC players do have a chance to try her out right now on the Public Test Realm. If you're waiting for her to launch on PS4 or Xbox One but are still curious to see Brigitte in action, we took her for a spin today on the latest episode of GameSpot Live--though as is always the case, her final attributes could change by the time she makes it to the live game. You can watch a replay of our stream above.

If you're interested in learning more about the newest Overwatch hero, you can watch Brigitte's origin story trailer here. You can also learn more about her in the latest Overwatch developer update and read about Brigitte's backstory and special abilities here.

Final Fantasy 15 Outfit Coming To The Sims 4

By Anonymous on Mar 01, 2018 09:05 pm

EA and Maxis have plans to release some special Final Fantasy XV themed costumes in The Sims 4. The promotion is part of the roll-out of the FFXV Windows Edition coming on March 6. Final Fantasy XV is already slated to get some wacky Sims costumes, but the content-sharing is going both ways, so Sims players will be able to dress up in the hottest fashions of Eos.

Sometime after launch, The Sims 4 Gallery will include a Noctis Lucis Caelum outfit. Players will be able to download the outfit in all its buckled and laced and zippered glory. You can fashion yourself in classic black, white, or green.

Unlike the Sims-themed costumes, this doesn't require a pre-order or purchase on the Origin service. Instead, it appears to be a free costume for anyone who plays The Sims 4, whether they're Final Fantasy fans or not. So even if you couldn't tell a Noct from a Gladio, you can still get a snazzy new outfit.

Meanwhile, the Sims-themed outfits you can get in FFXV include the iconic Llama Suit and Plumbob Suit. Those are available for your avatar to wear in the multiplayer expansion, or for Noctis to wear throughout the single-player campaign if you like your weighty melodrama to be peppered with some absurdity. You can check those out in the video above.

Kirby Dev's First Mobile Game Is Now Available

By Kevin Knezevic on Mar 01, 2018 09:00 pm

HAL Laboratory, the developer behind the Kirby and Boxboy series, has launched its first mobile game, Part Time UFO. Originally released in Japan last November under the moniker Hataraku UFO, the game is now available in international markets for iOS and Android devices and costs $4 to download.

Like many of HAL's other titles, Part Time UFO puts players in control of an adorable hero, in this case an anthropomorphic flying saucer with an extendable claw. Having just arrived on Earth, the UFO decides to take on various odd jobs to assist the denizens of the planet, using its claw to catch fish, assemble a pyramid of cheerleaders, load up trucks with cargo, and more. You can take a look at some gameplay in the trailer below.

Completing jobs will reward players with money, which can be used to buy new costumes for your flying saucer. Part Time UFO features 27 levels and more than 20 costumes to acquire, with additional jobs to unlock by completing hidden achievements in each level. Players can also post the craziest pileups they've created on social media using an in-game sharing function.

HAL's first Nintendo Switch game, Kirby Star Allies, is slated to release around the world on March 16. Like other mainline installments in the series, the game is a side-scrolling platformer in which players use Kirby's copy ability to inhale enemies and take on their powers. This time around, players can also throw hearts at enemies to turn them into allies. You can watch us play through several early levels of Kirby Star Allies and face off against a weirdly buff King Dedede.

Check Out The First Few Hours Of Sword Art Online's New Shooter

By Kevin Knezevic on Mar 01, 2018 08:55 pm

2018 is a particularly big year for anime games. A ton of anime-inspired titles are on the way to various platforms this year, from Dragon Ball FighterZ and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth--both of which are already available--to My Hero Academia: One's Justice and the ambitious, open-world One Piece game, Grand Cruise. The most recent is Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet, Bandai Namco's latest adaptation of the popular anime and manga series, which arrived on PC and consoles on February 23.

Unlike previous Sword Art Online games, Fatal Bullet takes place within the world of Gun Gale Online (or GGO), the shooter/MMO that serves as the setting for the first arc of Sword Art Online's second season. Fittingly, Fatal Bullet plays out like a third-person shooter rather than a typical fantasy RPG, emphasizing cover and twitchy gunplay over swords and magic. And while the game doesn't follow the same story arc from the anime directly, many of SAO's most recognizable characters do make an appearance in Fatal Bullet in various roles, including Kirito, Leafa, and Asuna.

On the latest episode of GameSpot Live, we played through the early portions of Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet. In our two-hour session with the game, we explored the world, picked up treasure, gunned down enemies in dungeons, and met up with Kirito and other familiar Sword Art Online characters. If you weren't able to join us earlier for the livestream, you can watch a replay of our exploits in the world of GGO above.

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you'd like to see more of the title, you can watch Fatal Bullet's opening movie here. We've also recorded eight additional minutes of gameplay footage, featuring Sinon and Kirito battling giant scorpions and other robotic enemies.

Bright Star Says Critics Hated Movie Because It Was On Netflix

By Dan Auty on Mar 01, 2018 08:12 pm

Netflix's sci-fi action thriller Bright may not have been met with many positive reviews, but it was a huge success for the streaming giant. A record number of viewers watched the movie, and there is a sequel on the way. The producers and stars have been quick to defend it too--following comments in January by Netflix CEO Rex Hastings, star Joel Edgerton has commented on the critical response.

In an interview with Collider, Edgerton blamed some of the negativity on the fact that Netflix is disrupting the way the films are released. "I think there was a little bit of extra critical hate towards it because it's changing the landscape of the movie business," he said. "But I think Bright is maybe a movie that needs to be reviewed by public opinion rather than viewed through the highbrow prism of film criticism."

No Caption Provided

Edgerton went on to compare the film to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which was well received by critics but found a more mixed reaction amongst fans. "According to [Netflix], the numbers were there", he said. "And I think that would be supported by the wild discrepancy between the audience score and the Rotten Tomatoes aggregate score, it's almost the inverse of Star Wars [The Last Jedi]. You've got critics at 93 or 92%, and the audience gave it a 50-something, and you get to Bright, which is sort of slammed by critics, but it has a 90% audience score."

Neverthless, Edgerton did state that the filmmakers would listen to criticism when making the follow-up. "[Whether] it's the filmmakers or Netflix or any of us, [we can] learn from the response to the movie--and I'm talking about the negative responses to the movie and what people out there on the street loved about the movie," he said. "I think if you take all that information, it puts you in a nice spot to make a second and maybe a third movie. It's always worth listening to the fans and the good and bad responses to it."

It has been confirmed that Edgerton and co-star Will Smith are returning for the Bright sequel, as well as director David Ayer. Writer Max Landis is however not coming back, so Ayer will handle script-writing duties himself. The movie currently has no confirmed release date. Click here to find out how GameSpot thinks Bright 2 could be a much better film than the original.

Her Story Director Tackles Hacktivism And Spies With #WarGames Interactive Series Trailer

By Chris E. Hayner on Mar 01, 2018 07:30 pm

Her Story director Sam Barlow, who is hard at work on his next game, is ready to unleash his new project. #WarGames is an interactive six-part web series that will take viewers into a world filled with hacktivism, espionage, and terror, as a group of characters tries to get to the bottom a military conspiracy.

The series will change based on the viewers, as anyone who watches will select between several video feeds that tell the story of #WarGames from different points of views. According to a description from Eko, the interactive startup behind the project, "the series 'learns' from their choices, resulting in experiences that are unique and personal. It's not a game, but an exciting new medium of personalized entertainment."

The series is based on the 1983 movie of the same name. However, as can be seen in the trailer above, it's quite different from the original. With its emphasis on technology, hacking, and modern communications, #WarGames lets the viewer be the one solving the mystery. The cast is led by Juss Nurse (Scandal), who plays "an ex-military brat turned hacker activist."

Eko will launch #WarGames on March 14, via HelloEko.com, Vudu.com, and the Eko app. You can see images from the series, which illustrate the various video feeds viewers will be able to choose between, above.

On Xbox One, you can now download the motorcycle platforming game Trials of the Blood Dragon for the low, low price of $0.00. On Xbox 360, you can pick up Brave: The Video Game completely free. Based on the Pixar movie of the same name, the Brave video game puts you into the role of Merida in mythical Scotland. The game, which plays on Xbox One through backwards compatibility, also incorporates motion controls through the Kinect camera.

You can download Trials of the Blood Dragon and Brave: The Video Game now on your Xbox console or through the Xbox.com links here: Trials of the Blood Dragon; Brave.

Trials of the Blood Dragon is free on Xbox One throughout all of March, while Brave: The Video Game is free until March 15. Then on March 16, Xbox One owners can grab the first-person shooter Superhot for free, while the puzzle-platformer Quantum Conundrum will go free on Xbox 360 on that date. Also note that one of February's free Xbox One Games With Gold titles, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India, will stay free until March 15.

March's Xbox One Free Games With Gold Revealed

By Chris Pereira on Mar 01, 2018 05:10 pm

With March drawing near, Microsoft has announced the lineup of games that Xbox Live Gold members will be able to download for free next month. There's the usual total of four new games being introduced across Xbox One and Xbox 360, with an especially good one up for grabs on the newer console.

On Xbox One, the month starts out with Trials of the Blood Dragon, a more action-oriented take on the Trials series that's somewhat in the vein of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon spin-off. It will be available for free for the entire month. From March 16 through April 15, Superhot will be free. The excellent shooter sports a distinct visual style and an even more novel concept, as time (mostly) freezes when you stop moving, allowing you to set up some Matrix-style bullet-dodging sequences.

Xbox 360 owners also get two games to download in March. During the first half of the month, it's Brave: The Video Game, which is based on Disney's film of the same name and was just added to the Xbox One's backwards compatibility list. It's then followed in the second half by Quantum Conundrum, the puzzle-based first-person game from Airtight Games and Kim Swift, one of the key developers behind Portal and Left 4 Dead. As always, both Xbox 360 games are playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility.

In the meantime, it's not too late to grab some of February's free Games With Gold titles. One of the Xbox One games, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India, will also remain free for the first half of March. Claiming any of these games allows you to continue playing them for as long as you're an Xbox Live Gold subscriber.

March 2018 Games With Gold

Xbox One

  • Trials of the Blood Dragon (March 1-31)
  • Superhot (March 16 - April 15)

Xbox 360 (playable on Xbox One)

  • Brave: The Video Game (March 1-15)
  • Quantum Conundrum (March 16-31)

How Destiny 2's Exotics Are Changing In An Upcoming Update

By Tamoor Hussain on Mar 01, 2018 05:00 pm

Bungie has explained its approach to changing Destiny 2's Exotics, offering insight into its goals and what it hopes to achieve in a game update planned for March. In the latest Bungie Weekly Update senior designer Jon Weisnewski said the gameplay tuning pass on Exotic gear is focused on "adding and/or increasing player Power spikes," and although all items are being considered, special attention is being paid to low-usage items. The goal, he says, is to "lean into an item's established gameplay and push it harder" while avoiding "catch-all improvements that dilute item identity."

To show what this means Weisnewski used the Graviton Lance as an example, explaining that the feedback has been that it looks cool, but isn't viable for getting kills in player-versus-player scenarios. Bungie is remedying this by reducing the recoil of the first of the weapon's burst shots. On top of that, it's introducing some aim assist to control recoil and changing it from three shot burst to two shot.

"This still plays into the fantasy of a low-damage gravity-neutralizing round forming a projectile tunnel for the last bullet," he said. "It also allows us to ensure the damage per burst is at a competitive level for PVP engagements. In fact, it gives Graviton a slight mathematical edge against other pulse rifles."

Weisnewski also said that, as a result of feedback, the way an enemy's body now behaves after being hit with a Graviton Lance has changed. "We made it so that rather than violently flying backwards and likely out of range of a potential splash damage opportunity, the defeated opponent floats back and up," he explained. "Then we made the explosion bigger, increased the damage, and added some void field projectiles that seek out any remaining targets."

According to Weisnewski, "this is one of the more exaggerated examples to help describe how we're looking at our goals and applying them to the gear." He went on to name weapons that aren't getting an update: Merciless, Telesto, Wardcliff Coil, MIDA Multi Tool, Colony, Legend of Acrius, and Vigilance Wing. The team decided not to change these as some don't require it, while the others will benefit from other tuning changes included in update 1.1.4.

"We'll be touching a lot of powerful gear with this update and to truly understand the impact for players requires a lot of design iteration and test time," Weisnewski said. "It isn't enough to crank up the damage and run one strike or Crucible match with a gun and helmet and move on. Dialing in the right amount of power, testing in all activities with all types of load outs, finding the bugs, fixing the bugs, updating the perk description text to reflect new behaviour, and then handing that off to localization for translation--it's a ton of work, but we're up to it. We sincerely appreciate your patience. I believe it will be worth the wait."

As previously detailed in the Destiny 2 roadmap, the changes are expected to go into effect on March 27 when the Sandbox & Crucible update will be launched as part of patch 1.1.4.

Destiny 2's Crimson Days event is now live, introducing a special 2v2 Crucible playlist. By taking part in the event you'll be working toward unlocking the real highlight of the new content: new gear. There's lots of new goodies for Destiny 2 players on PC, PS4, and Xbox One to acquire, but only for a limited time. You can take a look at the new items, rewards, and gear in Destiny 2 Crimson Days update here.

Crimson Days is now live on all platforms, and it runs until the weekly reset on February 20. Even if you don't plan on playing much, you can get a free Crimson Engram just by logging in and speaking with Tess at The Tower.

Overwatch's New Character Is Brigitte, Here's What She Can Do

By Tamoor Hussain on Mar 01, 2018 04:56 pm

Blizzard has revealed the newest hero joining Overwatch: Brigitte (pronounced Bri-gee-ta). The character has been detailed in the latest Public Test Realm patch notes and also on the game's official website, and is listed as a support class hero.

"An engineer with peerless armor-constructing abilities, Brigitte Lindholm is a valiant squire who fights on the front line to protect her allies," reads the patch notes. "Brigitte's armor engineering capabilities make her a stalwart support hero, capable of holding her ground in combat while also providing healing and armor for her allies." The official website, meanwhile, says "Brigitte specializes in armor" and can throw Repair Packs to heal teammates, or automatically heal nearby allies when she damages foes with her Flail.

No Caption Provided

Brigitte's primary weapon is a "heavy-hitting Rocket Flail," which she "swings in a wide arc in front of her to smash multiple enemies at once." The Whip Shot ability uses the flail to strike enemies at a distance and stun them. Landing blows allows Brigitte's passive ability, Inspire, to heal nearby allies over time.

Her Barrier Shield deploys a "frontal energy barrier that can absorb a limited amount of damage and protect any allies directly behind her." With her shield deployed, she can execute Shield Bash to "lunge forward and stun the first enemy in her path." From the sounds of it, she's a mixture of Reinhardt and her father, Torbjörn.

Her ultimate ability is called Rally, and is described as "a galvanizing call to arms that generates a substantial amount of armor for nearby allies and increases Brigitte's movement speed so she can lead them into battle." Check out Brigitte's origin story in the video above or read her story and learn about her abilities below, courtesy of Blizzard.

"No longer sitting on the sidelines, Brigitte Lindholm has taken up arms to defend those in need of protection. The youngest daughter of weapons designer, Torbjörn Lindholm, Brigitte was the first of his children to show an interest in mechanical engineering. Brigitte spent much of her spare time in her father's workshop, learning the trade and honing her skills. Her aptitude for engineering mirrored that of her father's, but Brigitte's primary interest was in armor fabrication and defensive systems, unlike Torbjörn, who was world renowned (and perhaps infamous) for the weapons he created.

No Caption Provided

"Everyone expected that Brigitte would continue her apprenticeship and follow in her father's footsteps. But her plans changed due to influence of another prominent figure in her life, her father's close friend and fellow Overwatch agent, Reinhardt Wilhelm. A close friend of the family and Brigitte's godfather, Reinhardt told Brigitte tales of heroes and chivalry as she grew up. After his retirement and Overwatch's fall, Reinhardt declared that he would become a knight-errant on a quest to bring justice. Before he left on his adventures, Brigitte surprised him by asking to join him as his squire. Reinhardt accepted.

"As a squire, Brigitte had many responsibilities, the most important of which was the upkeep of Reinhardt's Crusader armor (a design she was familiar with as the current version was designed by her father). But more and more, she found her main job was taking care of Reinhardt himself, trying to protect him from his overenthusiasm even as his body was breaking down from years of combat.

"Eventually, she realized that serving only as a mechanic wasn't enough, and that the best way she could aid Reinhardt was to become a warrior in her own right. While Reinhardt trained her in combat, Brigitte began to build her own suit of armor in secret. Now Brigitte fights at Reinhardt's side to protect him, and any others in need as knight and squire journey to make the world a better place, one battle at a time."

  • Rocket Flail: Brigitte's melee weapon has an extended range, enabling her to strike multiple enemies with a single swing.
  • Repair Pack: Brigitte throws a Repair Pack that can heal an ally. Any healing over that ally's maximum health provides them with armor instead.
  • Whip Shot: Brigitte throws her flail a long distance, dealing damage and knocking an enemy away from her.
  • Barrier Shield: Brigitte deploys a frontal energy barrier to absorb a limited amount of damage.
  • Shield Bash: Once her Barrier Shield is deployed, Brigitte can dash forward to stun an enemy.
  • Rally (Ultimate): Brigitte moves faster and provides all nearby allies with armor that lasts until it's removed by damage.

In the lead up to this announcement, Blizzard released a number of cool teases for Brigette, including one with a reference to the Jetpack Cat that was at one point a hero considered by Blizzard. While we're yet to see the impact she'll have on the way Overwatch is player, game director Jeff Kaplan previously described her as "very needed."

Free PS3 And PS Vita Games Not Included In PS Plus From 2019

By Tamoor Hussain on Mar 01, 2018 04:56 pm

From March 8, 2019, Sony will no longer offer PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita titles for free as part of a PlayStation Plus subscription. In a PS Plus update on the PlayStation Blog, the platform holder said it "will focus on PS4 titles" instead. The company has since confirmed to GameSpot that it will not be replacing the lower number of free games with more PS Plus games, meaning the total number of games given away each month with PS Plus from March next year will be two, down from six right now.

"This won't affect any games you've already downloaded, or will download, prior to March 8, 2019," it continued. "Those games will still be part of your PS Plus games library as long as you remain a member." It emphasized that game saves and other benefits will not be changed.

"Many of our fans are playing on the PS4 platform, with the increasingly vast number of PS4s in homes around the world," Sony continued. "We'll continue to prioritize the benefits you receive through your PS Plus membership, such as online multiplayer, online game save storage, PS4 monthly games, and exclusive PS Store discounts across content and network services."

Looking ahead, Sony said there are "plenty of new games and exclusive PS Store discounts to come for PS Plus members, and we look forward to sharing this with you."

PlayStation Plus, as a service, launched on the PS3 with Wipeout HD, LittleBigPlanet, and Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty as part of some its earliest freebies. Over the years it has come to be a big draw for existing and prospective PlayStation hardware owners. For some games, launching as a free PS Plus title has propelled their games into the limelight and, in the case of Rocket League, huge success.

In the same update, Sony announced March's free games for PS Plus. Bloodborne and Ratchet & Clank will be available on PS4, while PS3 owners get Mighty No. 9. Those with a PlayStation Vita can also download Claire: Extended Cut and Bombing Busters for free.

Injustice 2 Legendary Edition Announced For PS4, Xbox One, PC

By Tamoor Hussain on Mar 01, 2018 04:54 pm

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced Injustice 2: Legendary Edition, a new version of its superhero fighting game featuring the main game and all the downloadable content released since its original launch in May 2017.

Injustice 2: Legendary Edition will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC from March 27 and, along with the core roster, will have DLC characters Darkseid, Red Hood, Starfire, Sub-Zero, Black Manta, Raiden, Hellboy, Atom, Enchantress, and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles playable from the outset.

Premiere Skins that change Super Girl, Green Lantern, Flash, Cyborg, and Raiden into Power Girl, John Stewart Green Lantern, Reverse-Flash, Grid, and Black Lightning respectively, will also be part of the package.

With the launch of the Legendary Edition there will also be a number of enhancements to Injustice 2, including the introduction of an expanded tutorial called the "Learn Hub," new gear for all characters, a raised level cap of 30, and a new augment slot that unlocks at level 30.

A Day 1 Edition of Injustice 2: Legendary Edition will be available to pre-order soon. It contains a collectible coin, a "comic exclusive download steel card," 11, 000 Source Crystals to use in-game, and a steel case. GameSpot has contacted Warner Bros. to confirm how much the Legendary Edition will cost.

In GameSpot's Injustice 2 review Peter Brown awarded it a 9/10. "With AI battles, online and local versus matches, the diverse and ever-changing Multiverse, and an impressive story mode, Injustice 2 offers numerous ways of engaging with its characters and testing your abilities without feeling repetitive," he said.

"NetherRealm has delivered a fighting game that can be enjoyed by new players and pros alike in ways that go beyond pure competition. It's a bar that every fighting game should meet, but one that has up until now seemed out of reach."

Ash is Back. And so are the Evil Dead.

By GameSpot Staff on Mar 01, 2018 10:40 am

The story so far

With Season 3 of Ash vs Evil Dead now streaming exclusively on Stan, you might need some catching up on all of the series' demon-killing, chainsaw-hand-having action. Well, fear not – we have you covered!

And if the video leaves you curious, we've got bios on all the major characters below, as well as a devilish look into what's coming in Season 3.

But be warned: if you fear spoilers from the movies and first two seasons of the show more than Ash fears a demon apocalypse, turn back now.

No Caption Provided

Ash Williams

In the '80s, regular-guy Ash and a group of friends planned to spend the weekend in a cabin in the woods. One accidental demon-summoning ritual later, things went terribly wrong. By that I mean that Ash had to kill his possessed friends and family, cut off his own hand and replace it with a chainsaw, and get sent back in time to medieval England where he fought an evil version of himself.

That's all before the TV series even kicks off in present day.

When Ash smokes too much of the devil's lettuce, he accidentally re-awakens the evil he'd defeated long ago. Now, with help from his Value Stop co-workers (and his trusty chainsaw) he's back on the warpath, waging his endless battle against the Deadites.

No Caption Provided

Pablo Simon Bolivar

When Pablo worked in the electronics department of Value Stop, he thought Ash was just the "coolest thing". Now that Ash has embarked on his quest to destroy the evil spawned by the Necronomicon? Well, that's even cooler.

The journey so far has been rough for Pablo, what with his uncle dying, his being used as a vessel to summon Demon Spawn, and that whole being cut in half thing.

But despite all of that, Pablo remains loyal to Ash, because the only thing that gets in the way of friendship is having your body used as a puppet by an angry ancient demon.

No Caption Provided

Kelly Maxwell

Like Pablo, Kelly worked at Value Stop and is now wrapped up in Ash's quest to rid the world of evil. It all started very personally for Kel, with her dead mum reappearing out of the blue, only for her to end up being yet another Deadite.

That Deadite then killed Kel's dad, then Ash killed the Deadite, and then Kel was possessed and tried to kill Ash. It's fair to say she had a rough few days.

But, she's now a badass Deadite hunter on her own quest to rid the world of evil, and we all know that that can only go well.

No Caption Provided

Ruby Knowby

If you thought JK Rowling wrote some powerful stuff, just wait until you meet Ruby, the proud half-demon author of the Necronomicon that started this all.

But her questionable writing talent isn't the only thing you should know about her. She's a bit of a tricky one to pin down – sometimes she'll help Ash out with his demon-killing, and sometimes she'll use his severed hand to track him down and try to kill him.

Oh, and she's the ex-wife of mega-demon and all-round bad dude, Baal.

So, what's next?

Following Season 2, Baal has been sent back to Hell, Pablo is brought back to life and Ash returns to the present as hometown hero. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, turns out Ash has a daughter, Brandy, and that means not only is he going to have to learn how to be a functional parent (unlikely), he's now going to have to defend her from hordes of Deadites and his frienemy, Ruby.

It looks like the little town of Elk Grove is in for one big serving of trouble...

By Alex Newhouse on Mar 01, 2018 10:35 am

Crytek, the developer best known for the Crysis series, has announced that its CEO has stepped down. Cevat Yerli, who is also one of the founders of the company, is stepping down and will be replaced by his brothers, Avni and Faruk.

The studio announced the news on its website, stating that Avni and Faruk will serve as joint CEOs. There's no specifics on the reasoning behind Cevat's resignation; Crytek provides only the recent Steam Early Access launch of Hunt: Showdown as context for the change. Cevat will remain affiliated with the company as a "Strategic Shareholder."

"With the company in a strong position, now is the ideal time to recognize the existing leadership's excellent achievements over these past two years and formally transition executive leadership to Avni and Faruk," Cevat explained in a press release. "I have been honored to serve as CEO of the company I founded with my brothers almost 20 years ago and have seen the team accomplish breakthrough things in that time. I look forward to continue helping Crytek as a major shareholder, and I am very excited to see what tomorrow brings."

Crytek promised that its plans and priorities remain the same: it'll continue to enhance CryEngine, which it licenses out to other developers; it will further develop Hunt: Showdown; and it'll continue to operate Warface.

Although last week's release of Hunt went well and the game has been met with a positive reception, Crytek has nonetheless run into some trouble over the past few years. It dealt with a series of high-profile reports on its dire financial situation, and just this year it filed a lawsuit against Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games for alleged breach of contract. However, according to Crytek, an investment in Fall 2017 has stabilized the company for the foreseeable future.

Facebook Launches New Campaign To Promote Women In Gaming

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 01, 2018 10:25 am

Social networking behemoth Facebook has launched a new campaign that aims to promote diversity in the video game industry and encourage more women to get into the field. The network's new "Women In Gaming Stories" initiative includes a website that has videos featuring women in various roles across the industry, including game design, marketing, HR, sales, and more. The lead video features Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg.

"Gaming is one of the best examples of people connecting around their interests, and women have a really important part to play in this industry," Sandberg said. The executive went on to cite statistics about how women make up around half of all gamers worldwide, while some female characters are some of the best known recently, including Tracer from Overwatch, Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, and Chloe and Nadine from Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

Sandberg added that the video game industry needs to do more to encourage more women to join the video game industry as part of an effort for games to be better representative of the global population.

"Yet gaming still doesn't fully reflect the audience it serves or the stories it tells," Sandberg went on to say. "Women only make up 23 percent of the workforce, and women of color are even less represented. In this industry, women also face steretypes and prejudice that hold them back, just like they do in every industry. And when they become the target of online threats, it's even harder to convince young women that this is an industry full of opportunity; and industry that not only values their work--but needs it."

Sandberg added that Facebook wants to see games made that "speak to everyone." The Women In Gaming campaign is an effort to build a global community for women in the industry to share stories of the challenges they've faced and more about their experiences. Sandberg went on to say that Facebook will organise meet-ups so that women in gaming can come together for support and empowerment. Also on the website you will find links to talks from noted female game developers such as Brenda Romero and links to research where you can learn more about the facts on women in the video game workplace.

You can watch more than a dozen videos on Facebook's website in which women in the games industry such as Rovio CEO Kati Levoranta, King brand manager Natalie Mellin, and various internal Facebook gaming staffers discuss their experiences as women in the games industry. A Facebook representative told GI.biz that the company aims to have around 100 videos of this type on its website by the end of 2018, so that it can provide a better representation of the roles that are available in video games across all disciplines.

Dragon's Dogma Xbox 360 Servers Are Going Down Soon

By Alex Newhouse on Mar 01, 2018 10:04 am

If you're still playing Dragon's Dogma or Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on Xbox 360, Capcom has some bad news for you: the servers are going down. At the end of March, you'll be unable to access the network features for the Xbox 360 versions of the game or its expansion, Dark Arisen.

When it first launched back in 2012, one of the most interesting parts of Dragon's Dogma was its network components. Somewhat similar to Dark Souls' asynchronous online features, Dragon's Dogma has a system in which you can hire an NPC created by a different player. In addition, you can battle bosses that other players can also fight--although these fights are also asynchronous.

All of this is going down soon, at least in the 360 version. On March 31, at 1 AM PT / 4 AM ET / 9 AM GMT, Dragon's Dogma on 360 will have its network features shut off. After that point, it'll continue to be playable offline. "To all Xbox 360 players, thank you for all the Pawns you've shared in the Rift and the damage dealt to the Ur-Dragon," Capcom stated on its website. "Well done, Arisens."

In addition, if you want to check out the multiplayer modes, the servers will still be live on the PS3, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen launched on PS4 and Xbox One in October 2017. GameSpot's Kevin VanOrd gave the original version an 8/10, praising its combat, monsters, atmosphere, and "one of the best boss fights in any role-playing game, ever."

Next Tarantino Movie Now Has A Title And More Details

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 01, 2018 09:06 am

Quentin Tarantino's next movie now has an official title. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it'll be called Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt will star in the movie, which will in some way involve Sharon Tate and presumably her murder at the hands of Charles Manson's followers.

Here is how Tarantino describes Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: "A story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a Western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don't recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor...Sharon Tate."

According to the report, DiCaprio and Pitt each had "strenuous" negotiations with production company Sony regarding their contracts. Sources told the site that DiCaprio was close to walking away before ultimately coming to terms with Sony.

DiCaprio and Pitt have worked with Tarantino before; Pitt starred in Inglourious Basterds, while DiCaprio was in Django Unchained. As for Tarantino, he said in a statement that he's been working on the script for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for five years, also noting that he's been a resident of Los Angeles for the better part of his life. He also noted that he was a 7-year-old living in Los Angeles when Tate and four others were murdered.

"I'm very excited to tell this story of an L.A. and a Hollywood that don't exist anymore," Tarantino said. "And I couldn't be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff."

According to Variety reporter Justin Kroll, actress Margot Robbie is still in talks to play Tate. He added that Tarantino is also now talking with other actors for smaller roles, and those should be announced in due time.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood opens in theatres on August 9, 2019. That is the 50th anniversary of the day that Tate was murdered.

It will be Tarantino's first film with Sony Pictures after the director parted ways with The Weinstein Company in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations against Harvey Weinstein.

Wonder Woman 2: Kristen Wiig In Talks To Play The Villain

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 01, 2018 08:36 am

Kristen Wiig, who is perhaps best known for her parts on Saturday Night Live and Bridesmaids, is reportedly being eyed to play the main villain in Wonder Woman 2. Sources told Variety that Wiig is Warner Bros.' "top voice" to play Cheetah in the upcoming film. It would be Wiig's first time in a comic book movie.

According to the report, director Patty Jenkins ranked Wiig high on her list to play Cheetah, and she reportedly informed Wiig of that before the director left for a location scouting trip. Wiig and "top execs" recently met, according to the report, and she is reportedly closer now to officially signing on. Variety's Justin Kroll said on Twitter that Emma Stone was initially pursued for the part, but she apparently passed on the opportunity.

Wonder Woman 2 is due in theatres on November 1, 2019. Jenkins returns to write, direct, and produce the film, and according to reports, she's signed a better contract for the sequel that will pay her in the high eight-figure range.

The first Wonder Woman film explored Diana's roots on the island of Themyscira, before she became the world-famous superhero. Now, Jenkins says, "She's fully developed, it's got great fun from the start and great big superhero presence from the start."

Wonder Woman made more than $800 million worldwide, so it's no surprise that a sequel is on the way. We don't know much about the story for the sequel, but Jenkins previously teased that the film "is funny and a great love story again and a couple new unbelievable characters who I'm so excited about, who are very different than were in the last movie."
