It's almost Black Friday, that wonderful time of the year when seemingly everything is on sale. This of course includes video games. And if you're looking for the newest Call of Duty game, numerous retailers will offer Call of Duty: WWII for a discount next week.
Based on what we've seen so far in terms of Black Friday ads, it appears Best Buy will have Call of Duty: WWII for the cheapest, offering it for $40. Walmart ($43), Target and Toys R Us ($45), and GameStop ($50) are also discounting the game on Black Friday. Those deals may not sound so great, but for a game that only just came out a few weeks ago, and one that is selling quite well at full price, any discount is notable. Black Friday Xbox Store and PlayStation Store sales are now underway for Xbox Live Gold and PS Plus members respectively, dropping the WWII Digital Deluxe Edition to $90. Those digital sales will open to everyone on November 21.
Call of Duty: WWII is getting strong reviews, with GameSpot scoring it a 9/10. It returns to the franchise's origins in World War II, beginning with a D-Day mission. Some of the actors featured in the game include Josh Duhamel from Transformers and Kingdom's Jonathan Tucker. And in multiplayer, that means no more super-powers or exosuits, but instead boots-on-the-ground only. The game also includes a Nazi Zombies mode that we quite enjoyed, along with a brand-new, larger-scale multiplayer experience called War.
You can check out a complete list of Call of Duty deals for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One below. We'll continue to update this as more Black Friday ads are revealed. Amazon, for instance, has still yet to announce anything, so there's plenty more to come. You can also check out all of our other Black Friday coverage through the links at the bottom of this post.

In Star Wars Battlefront II, there are a number of roles to take on while on the galactic frontlines. From Imperial armies, Rebel forces, and many other sides spanning the film series--each fighting force will fight for their cause in the expansive conflict. As you wage your battle along the galactic frontier, you'll come to find a set of classes that have their own role to play in the larger fight, and possess a number of nuances and techniques that can be improved upon over time.
In this guide, GameSpot will be offering tips and information on the four core classes in Battlefront II. Including what their main skills and roles are in battle, and how you can upgrade them over the course of your career. Be sure to check back with us for more guides for this online Star Wars game, along with our review-in-progress about the state of things in DICE's online shooter.
When you need to strike the enemy hard and fast, then the Assault class is the one you can rely on. As the all-around offensive class, Assault can be a good starting class for many looking to learn the systems of the game. But in the hands of an experienced player, this role can be quite deadly and offer up the fastest way to deal quick damage compared to other classes. One useful support ability that they have in their possession is the Scan Dart. Firing off a beacon at a distance, you'll ping nearby enemy infantry, which will show their locations on screen. This is invaluable when trying to make progress into a skirmish, allowing you and your allies to see how best to flank the infantry. With their rapid-fire rifles, the Assault class can go toe-to-toe with most enemies they'll come across.
Starting Abilities:
Thermal Detonator:The default detonator is a throwable grenade packing a deadly punch. While you can upgrade this ability to deal higher damage, you can also acquire Star Cards that replace it with an Ion Grenade--dealing heavy damage to machines and vehicles--and an Acid Launcher, which deals damage over time to enemies caught in its blast.
Scan Dart:This default launcher fires a scan dart which is useful for quickly locating enemies. This is incredibly valuable when looking to keep an eye on nearby enemies and can be upgraded to increase its duration. However, you can replace this ability with the Toughen Up skill--allowing you to regain health faster--and a small side-arm that can blind enemies.
Vanguard:Lead the charge and equip a powerful short-range weapon that builds no heat for a limited time. Essentially the Assault's super ability, this shotgun can be used for a limited time, dealing massive damage at close range. While you can upgrade it with Star Cards that can improve accuracy, decrease cooldown, you can also upgrade it to allow for more time when pulling off kills.
Heavy
If you're looking to become a behemoth on the battlefield, then the Heavy class is the one for you. With this class, you're essentially the closest thing to a tank when not in a vehicle. Wielding a large blaster machine gun, you'll have access to a number of defensive buffs and skills to help you support your allies. Along with a Combat Shield and Sentry cannons, the Heavy can deal large damage to waves of enemies, while also soaking damage and protecting allies. There is a trade-off to their extra endurance and firepower, however. The Heavies are not as mobile as other classes, making them a risk to bring around for long jaunts across the map, and can often be unwieldy in some tighter situations.
Starter Abilities:
Impact Grenade:The default Impact Grenade detonates on contact with any object. This grenade offers a quick way to deal quick explosive damage to a group, but requires some more accuracy due to the lack of the traditional grenade's bounce. While you can upgrade it to increase blast radius, and modify it into a thermal charge, it can also be upgraded into an Ion Torpedo--allowing you to lock onto vehicles to deal large damage.
Combat Shield:The default Combat Shield projects in front of you, offering a good balance between mobility and protection. This can be incredibly useful when leading allies down a narrow path and protecting them from enemy fire. However, if this ability isn't doing it for you, then you can swap it out for a grenade launcher or an Ion Turret, dealing explosive damage to enemies.
Sentry:Hold the line by drawing a heavy rotary blaster. You and nearby allies take reduced explosive damage while you are in Sentry mode. This particular ability features a number of different modifications--including a lightweight variant for faster movement, boosted health regeneration, and also adding explosive rounds to your cannon.
Officer
There comes a time during battle when your allies will need an extra push to get over a particularly large hump. With the Officer on the field, this class can apply healing and buffs to allies, while also popping off a few shots with their side-arm. Unfortunately, the Officer possess some rather weak offensive skills on their own, making them a particular class you'll generally want to keep away from heavy action. Still, this leadership class can offer up some decent damage with their automated blaster turret, which can help protect a capture location and create chokepoints around tight places.
Starter Abilities:
Flash Grenade:The Flash Grenade splits into multiple fragments that blind and deal a small amount of damage. While this grenade isn't as lethal as the others, it can be useful when used at the right time against a group. While there's improvements to blast radius, you can also replace the grenade entirely with a homing blast shot, and even a special Defuser skill that negates all incoming blast damage.
Blaster Turret:The default Blaster Turret locks on to enemy soldiers and vehicles. Turret automatically repairs when near a friendly officer. The turret is a skill that can be incredibly effective when used against the enemy, but only if you're smart about when you pull it out. It's very easy to waste it by activating it at an improper moment. But if you can trigger it at the right time, you'll quickly see damage and kill-counts rack up. However, if the turret isn't doing it for you, then try out the Squad Shield--which creates an energy shield that wards off energy damage--or even a modified disruptor device that overheats nearby enemy weapons.
Battle Command:Inspire your squad by issuing a Battle Command that allows your allies to withstand more damage. There's a number of modifiers that can be applied to this skill, such as greater healing effects, ability cooldowns, and most interesting of all--decreasing all blaster cooling times for allies. This skill is essential for players looking to master the Officer class.
Specialist
Sometimes, a good army needs a few soldiers that can stick to the high ground and pick off the opposing team from afar. With the Specialist class, you'll use your sniper rifle to damage enemies at great distances and scout out other enemies within the area. Unfortunately, this particular class won't be able to do much at close range, making them especially vulnerable to Assault types that can sneak up to get the pounce on them. Still, the Specialist are surprisingly versatile and can easily look after themselves.
Starter Abilities:
Shock Grenade:The default Shock Grenade that temporarily slows enemies down. This grenade can be useful when you need to make a quick getaway, but if you want to have something with a little more kick to it, then you can acquire Star Cards that swap it out for the damage-over-time sidearm Stinger Pistol, and the stun-focused Repulser Cannon.
Thermal Binoculars:Digital macro binoculars capable of uncovering heat signatures of enemy soldiers, even through walls. With Star Cards, you can improve the range and effectiveness of the binoculars, however if you want something that can get you closer to the action, then you can switch them up for the Trip Mines and Personal Shield--protecting you and nearby allies from enemy fire.
Infiltration:Go behind enemy lines by becoming undetectable to enemy scanners, marking enemies, and equipping a powerful medium-ranged weapon. If you're tired of sticking to the outskirts of the map, this ability can make you a bit more stealthy and rush into the bases of the opposing forces. Using Star Cards, you can boost your resilience, mark nearby enemies, and improve the duration of this particular ability.
Black Friday is coming up soon, and that means a ton of deals on everything you could want. As expected, retailers have released their deals ahead of the big day, like Best Buy. With the doors opening at 5 PM on Thanksgiving evening--in some states--the retailer is offering up some big deals for TVs, movies, and more.
As far as TVs go, Best Buy has a 50-inch Sharp LED 4K television with Roku for $179.99. Normally, the television costs $500 and is currently on sale for $400 on the retailer's website. In addition, you can get a 60-inch LED 4K TV from Sony for $600, which currently costs $1,000. There is also some pretty decent deals on 4K players, with the most notable being the LG 4K player for $100. It's worth noting that most of the TVs sold on Black Friday aren't of the highest quality, so it may not be the best choice for your 4K gaming. You can check out television reviews on our sister site CNET to see if these deals are right for you.
If you're looking to add to your movie collection, the retailer has a ton of movies on sale, many of which come with a digital copy as well. The most notable of the bunch is The Princess Bride on Blu-Ray for $2. In addition, you can get some of the latest home releases on 4K for $10-15. Best Buy also has movie collections listed, but the retailer does not have the Black Friday prices listed.
Those who are eager to start shopping can take advantage of an early, pre-Black Friday sale that is already underway. While the discounts are not as steep, in addition to the games that are on sale right now, there are sales on TVs, gaming PCs, streaming devices, home theater equipment, and a variety of movies and TV shows. That latter category includes a handful of 4K discs, including the Harry Potter Collection for $150, Westworld: The Complete First Season for $50, and Mad Max: High Octane Collection for $105. You can see the deals that are live here.
A wide variety of deals are actually live right now; if you're a My Best Buy Elite or Elite Plus member, you can purchase Best Buy's doorbusters deals online here. Games, TVs, movies, and more are available without having to actually wait for Black Friday.
Below, you'll find a list of Black Friday deals in TVs, movies, and tech that we think might be up your alley. You can check out the complete listing of deals on Best Buy's website. If you're looking for deals around video games and accessories, make sure to check out our comprehensive list of everything in gaming Best Buy has available for Black Friday, or every retailer through the links below:
A number of retailers have launched their Black Friday 2017 sales ahead of the big day. And, just as expected, Steam's Black Friday sale has begun. Officially dubbed the Steam Autumn Sale, it runs from now until 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM GMT on November 28, giving you almost a full week to take advantage of sale prices on hundreds of PC games.
As is typical with big Steam sales these days, you don't have to worry about anything too complicated--there are no daily deals or eight-hour flash deals to keep an eye on. Deals are live for the full duration of the event, providing you with plenty of time to see what else you buy on Black Friday. It also makes it easy to compare prices with the ongoing Origin, Ubisoft Store, GOG, and Humble Store Black Friday sales.
Deals extend beyond just games. Select hardware is also on sale--the Steam Link, for instance, is a mere $5, matching the price that GameStop will offer for Black Friday. Alternatively, you can get a bundle with Steam Link and John Wick (the movie) for $19, or a Steam Link and Steam Controller for $34.63.
Coinciding with the Steam Autumn Sale, the nomination process for the annual Steam Awards has begun. You can nominate games during the sale in various quirky categories--things like the "The World Is Grim Enough Let's Just All Get Along" and "Mom's Spaghetti" awards. You'll earn a badge for nominating a game, and completing other tasks will allow you to level it up, as outlined here. The actual Steam Awards themselves will then take place in December.
You can check out everything on sale on Steam here. For more Black Friday coverage, you can check out our list of extensive Black Friday stories below.
Not content to just let retailers provide discounts on its own products, Ubisoft has launched its own Black Friday sale ahead of the big shopping day. In addition to dropping the price of many of the publisher's newest PC games, you'll also find deals on its older games and a variety of merchandise themed around those games, ranging from South Park figurines to Assassin's Creed clothing.
As for merchandise, you can pick up a South Park: Fractured But Whole figurine of Mysterion for $40 (down from $50) or a Coon tricycle for $60 (from $80). A Wildlands backpack can be had for $30 (from $60), Rainbow Six Siege figurines are $15 each (from $20), and an Assassin's Creed canvas backpack is $48 (from $60).
These prices are available from now until November 26; you can see everything on sale here. At least in the case of the games, you may want to do some comparison shopping--there haven't been a ton of deals on PC games announced so far, although GOG and the Humble Store have both launched their respective Black Friday sales. Steam is expected to do the same on November 22. You can check out all of our Black Friday coverage through the links below.
Black Friday is right around the corner, and like many other retailers, Target has released its ad well in advance to let people plan ahead. There are quite a few game deals to be had in its sales circular, although the heavy focus is on PS4 and Xbox One; there's nothing for PC gaming fans to take advantage of, and seemingly little for those on Nintendo platforms.
Nintendo Switch is only featured on the back page, where it's listed at its regular price of $300. There's no sign of PS4 Pro or Xbox One X, although the older iterations of those consoles will be on sale. You can pick up a 1 TB PS4 for $200, while a 500 GB Xbox One S drops to $190 with a bonus $25 Target gift card. Target's ad lists both of these console deals as doorbusters, a term it liberally uses throughout--it even applies to the special green Zelda 2DS. We've designated doorbuster deals as such in the lists below; it's unclear how limited stock will be, but some of these offers may run out shortly after Target stores open their doors.
On the accessory side, the most notable deal is PlayStation VR for $200. This is just the headset itself, meaning you would still need to purchase the PS4's camera in order to use it. Still, that's an attractive option for those uninterested in the camera and bundled game you can get on sale for $300 or $350 elsewhere. Additionally, all PS4 DualShock 4 controllers drop to $40, while a selection of Xbox One controllers will also be $40. The ad states that "all" Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus memberships will be $10 off, but only the $60, 12-month cards are pictured. It's unlikely you'll get $10 off the cheaper, short-term subscription cards.
As for games, there are quite a few on sale. However, it's unclear if certain deals apply to all platforms--for instance, Just Dance 2018 is $30 on Switch, which may or may not also be true of Xbox One and PS4 versions. The ad also states there will be more games available at the various price tiers, so at this point we don't know everything that's discounted.
Below, you'll find the comprehensive list of everything we know will be on sale on Black Friday at Target. Store time openings vary by state, so check with your local store to be sure. (The retailer has also announced that, for Cyber Monday, it will offer a 15% sitewide discount online, letting you potentially drop the price of even something like the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro.) You can also check out our in-depth lists of other retailers' Black Friday deals through these links:
With Black Friday around the corner, Walmart has also released its full flyer for the big shopping day. There are a ton of game deals to take advantage of, particularly for those with a PS4 or Xbox One, with these offers becoming available on Thanksgiving evening (November 23) or Black Friday itself, depending on when your state allows stores to begin opening. Nintendo Switch and 3DS offers are also available, although PC gaming fans unfortunately won't find anything. Some of these deals are live now; more details on that below.
In terms of hardware, the offers are similar to what we've seen elsewhere. Switch is in stock, but at a regular price ($299), while there's no sign of Xbox One X or PS4 Pro. However, you can pick up a 1 TB PS4 for $199, or a 500 GB Xbox One S for $189. Neither of these systems comes with any bundled games, although Walmart will also take $50 off "any" Xbox One S, so you'll be able to pick from other bundles that have what you want. Walmart will also be among the retailers to offer the special green Zelda: Ocarina of Time 2DS bundle.
In terms of accessories, DualShock 4 PS4 controllers drop to $39 each, including the Walmart-exclusive Crystal Blue color. Xbox One controllers are also available for $39, including some special edition versions. Third-party, wired Switch controllers will be available for $17, while the Gran Turismo Sport PSVR bundle will be $299. You can also get a wired PS4 or Xbox One headset, the Turtle Beach Recon 50P, for $25.
Walmart has launched some of its offers early as part of a pre-Black Friday sale. You can see all of those here; they include the $199 PS4 and $39 DualShock 4 controllers, among a variety of TVs and other items. You'll find a complete rundown of everything that will be on sale for Black Friday--or as much as we can glean from the flyer--below. You can check out the full flyer, and find out when your local store is opening, on Walmart's website. For more, check out our roundup of deals at other retailers:
We're days away from Black Friday 2017, and numerous stores have revealed the deals they'll have on offer this year. That includes Best Buy, which actually has an early, pre-Black Friday sale going on right now (more details below). But it's Thanksgiving evening and the day after where the full selection of deals will be available, and we've rounded up everything you can expect to see discounted across PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, and 3DS--and even a single, solitary deal for those looking for something new to play on Wii U and Wii.
In a trend we're seeing at a number of retailers, there isn't a wide array of hardware deals. Switch will be in stock but at its regular price of $300. Neither the PS4 Pro nor Xbox One X will be on sale, with the sale prices instead coming on the older hardware. A 1 TB PS4 can be had for $200, but that doesn't include any free games. On the Microsoft side, you can get the Madden 18 Xbox One S 500 GB bundle for $230, and as a bonus, you'll receive a free Xbox One controller. A free controller is also available with another bundle, which swaps in Forza Horizon 3 in place of Madden.
Controllers and accessories will also be discounted. The PlayStation VR Gran Turismo Sport bundle drops to $300. All PS4 DualShock 4 controllers will be $40, including the Red Crystal color version that is only available at Best Buy. Xbox One controllers will also be available for $40, although some will cost more--presumably the special edition colors and designs. Those looking for a headset will have several options, including the Turtle Beach XO Three wired headset (which works with Xbox One, PS4, and PC) and Turtle Beach Recon 150 (which also works with those devices) for $40 each. Astro headsets will be up to 25% off, while a handful of Switch accessories (including a Joy-Con charging station) will be $20 each.
Ahead of Black Friday, you can take advantage of many of these deals (and those on non-gaming items) early. If you're a My Best Buy Elite or Elite Plus member, you have access to Black Friday Doorbuster deals right now by going here. Below, you'll find a comprehensive list of everything we could find on sale at Best Buy this Black Friday. Some specific pricing was not shared and the exact time your local store opens will vary. You can check out the full details on Best Buy's website. For more, check out our roundup of the details at other retailers:
Black Friday 2017 is only a couple of days away now, and while it'll offer a wealth of great deals on some of this year's biggest game releases, many retailers will also have some slightly older titles at steep discounts. That includes The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, which you'll be able to pick up for cheap at various stores this Black Friday.
The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Skyrim Special Edition in particular will be on sale for half-off or more at some locations. You'll find the game for the cheapest price at Target, which will have it for $15. GameStop, meanwhile, will have the title for slightly more at $20, while Best Buy will sell it for $25. No deals on the PC version have been announced yet, but we'll update this story when they are.
If you'd rather avoid the crowds, you can also purchase Skyrim Special Edition at a discount digitally from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. Both have already begun their Black Friday sales ahead of the big shopping day, so you can download the game on PS4 right now for $20. Xbox Live Gold members will also be able to purchase it for $20, while those without a subscription will pay $24.
You can find the full list of Skyrim Special Edition deals below, which we'll continue to update as more Black Friday prices are announced. You can find the rest of our other Black Friday 2017 deals through the links at the bottom of this roundup.

Destiny 2's limited-time multiplayer event, Iron Banner, has returned. Iron Banner is live right now on all platforms and runs until 1 AM PT / 4 AM ET on November 28. The game mode this time is Clash, which is Destiny 2's version of Team Deathmatch. Notably, this is the first Iron Banner event since Destiny 2 launched for PC at the end of October.
This is the last Iron Banner during Destiny 2's Season 1, so now is your last chance to get the Season 1 emblem, Shades of Radegast, for completing certain milestones. You'll get other rewards by turning in reputation tokens to Lord Saladin, with new challenges available every day during this newest Iron Banner. Bungie did not reveal any of the weapons or gear that you can earn from this newest Iron Banner. You can see all the Iron Banner gear and rewards in our gallery.
To take part in Iron Banner, you need to have beaten the Destiny 2 campaign. In doing that, you'll reach the Tower, and from there you can visit Lord Saladin to get the quest to unlock Iron Banner. After that, you'll be able to hop into Iron Banner from the Crucible menu.
Star Wars Battlefront II is the latest Star Wars game from EA and DICE, and this time around, the developers have made some major changes to the series. Unlike 2015's Star Wars Battlefront, all of Battlefront II's DLC characters and maps will be given away for free to all players, but the game introduces microtransactions in the form of loot crates to compensate for that. It also features a full single-player campaign that's set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens and puts players in the role of Iden Versio, the leader of an Imperial special forces group called the Inferno Squad.
Star Wars Battlefront II releases for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17. Ahead of the game's launch, we've compiled our most important features and gameplay videos detailing everything you need to know about Star Wars Battlefront II. Check back often as we update this article with our in-depth review, guides, additional articles, and videos. Details will likely continue to change as EA responds to the backlash against loot crates; Battlefront II Hero unlock costs have already changed just before launch. [Update: EA has made an even bigger change, removing Battlefront II's microtransactions entirely for the time being.]
Review
Our full review of Battlefront II is coming soon once we get more time with the live game. Until then, you can read our thoughts in our Star Wars Battlefront II review and review roundup. GameSpot critic Alessandro Fillari scored the game a 6/10 and wrote, "While its main narrative feels unresolved, and the general loop of the multiplayer carries a number of issues, Battlefront II still manages to evoke that same sense of joy and excitement found in the core of what the series is all about. But as it stands, the biggest hurdle that Battlefront II will need to overcome--for its simultaneous attempts to balance progression with genuine feeling of accomplishments--is deciding on what type of game it wants to be."
Guides & Features
We'll have in-depth tips and guides for Star Wars Battlefront II in the coming days to help you succeed in the game's single-player and multiplayer modes. In the meantime, you can check out our guide on how Battlefront II's complex progression system works, where we detail all of the game's currencies, Star Cards, and what each of them unlocks.

GameSpot -- 6/10
"While its main narrative feels unresolved, and the general loop of the multiplayer carries a number of issues, Battlefront II still manages to evoke that same sense of joy and excitement found in the core of what the series is all about. But as it stands, the biggest hurdle that Battlefront II will need to overcome--for its simultaneous attempts to balance microtransactions with genuine feeling of accomplishments--is deciding on what type of game it wants to be" -- Alessandro Fillari [Full review]
GamesRadar+ -- 4/5
"If you're not planning to play Battlefront 2 online, don't even bother picking this one up. While the campaign looks and feels like a Star Wars experience, it's an unfulfilling one, like a really good knock-off Han Solo action figure. You can play with it for a few hours, but you'll ultimately feel a little cheated. Multiplayer, on the other hand, is exceptionally polished and entertaining, and once you learn to accept the frustrating progression system, it'll keep you visiting the galaxy far, far away for months." -- Andy Hartup [Full review]
Digital Trends -- 7.0/10
"There's something special about the Battlefront games, and how they capture the excitement of the beloved films. Star Wars: Battlefront II excels on that front, like its predecessor did, and does it in a smarter, more interesting way. It also offers much more of that experience, with a single-player campaign and plenty of multiplayer modes rounding what feels like a fairly complete package.
Still, Battlefront II is much less of a sequel than the Battlefront done correctly. It feels the same, and carries all the same problems, as its predecessor. With a fun but ultimately unremarkable single-player story, returning to Battlefront probably won't blow many fans' minds." -- Phil Hornshaw [Full review]
Shacknews -- 6/10
"Star Wars: Battlefront II is a pretty good game, and you're going to get it if you're a fan of Star Wars, no matter what anyone says. I'm just thankful that the game is an improvement over the first attempt and is incredibly fun solo, or with friends online. The loot crates diminish its value greatly, and it's a shame EA forces them down your throat as part of the core gameplay, but the game looks gorgeous and is enjoyable to play." -- Greg Burke [Full review]
EGM -- 7.0/10
"Star Wars: Battlefront II used the previous game as a jumping off point, and while it could have admittedly jumped further, it was at least a jump forward. The enjoyably chaotic multiplayer and single-player adventures are overall well-delivered under its visually beautiful and authentically detailed Star Wars backdrop. As for the unfortunate outcome of the game's progression system, it is understandable if players are deterred based on its lack of player friendliness, but the experience can still be enjoyed without giving it any extra money. On top of this, the recent last-minute adjustments to hero character costs suggests that EA is listening to fans and adjusting accordingly. We are off to a rocky start with Star Wars: Battlefront II, but I wouldn't outright dismiss it without a fair look." -- Nick Plessas [Full review]
IGN -- 7.0/10 (review-in-progress)
"I find my opinion of Battlefront 2 shifts depending on what I choose to expect from it. If I'm looking for a rich Star Wars story alongside a deep competitive shooter, this definitely isn't it. But in terms of delivering on that Star Wars fantasy, jumping from corner to corner of the galaxy to see as much as it has to offer, Battlefront 2 succeeds in a very fun way. I'm just not sure there's enough here to keep me interested for very long." -- Tom Marks [Full review]
As with the Xbox Store, Sony has kicked off an early sale on the PlayStation Store ahead of Black Friday 2017. The sale was initially only available to PlayStation Plus members, but it has expanded to everyone and features even more games on discount. If you're a PS4 owner, there are some notable deals here. [Update: Beginning today, November 21, the PSN Black Friday sale is now open to non-PS Plus subscribers as well. In addition to that, many new PS4 game discounts are now available in the PlayStation Store. We've updated the list below with some of the most notable ones.]
This PSN Black Friday Early Access sale focuses exclusively on a selection of games for PS4--this isn't as extensive as the hundreds of games in the Xbox Store Black Friday sale. But if you prefer the convenience of digital, you will be able to save up to 40% off these games' usual prices.
Below, you'll find a list of many of the PlayStation Store deals that are currently available, or you can see them on the PlayStation Store website. We've updated this list with more deals after the full sale went live, which features a much more extensive array of titles, including some for PS3 and Vita. If you want to see everything on sale in terms of hardware, physical games, and accessories, check out our PS4 Black Friday 2017 deals roundup. All of our Black Friday coverage can also be seen through the links below.
As always, Black Friday is shaping up to have a ton of deals--many of them worthwhile. Whether you're shopping for games, consoles, TVs, movies, or any number of other things, there's a lot to keep track of. Different retailers have their own sets of deals starting at different times and with varying bonuses--you have to do a lot of homework to keep things straight.
We've been keeping track of Black Friday deals in the lead up to the big day, breaking things down into retailer- and platform-specific stories. Below, you'll find a complete roundup of all of our big Black Friday coverage and some highlights from each. You can check out the individual posts for comprehensive lists of everything that will be on sale for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, 3DS, and PC. There's even a Wii U deal or two to be had.
More deals continue to be announced in the lead up to Black Friday, and some have already gone live. For instance, you can already pick up a $200 PS4 or a year of PS Plus for $40, $10 4K movies like Wonder Woman, and $39 PS4 or Xbox One controllers. Humble Bundle's fall sale has also begun, and we're expecting the Steam Black Friday sale to begin on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Xbox Live and PSN sales are ongoing, the latter of which will soon expand to include more games.
We'll continue to update these stories with the latest and best deals as we get more details. Expect plenty more, with Steam, GOG, Amazon, and other sales still likely to come as get closer to the big shopping day. Cyber Monday will follow soon after and should bring even more sale prices for whatever you might be looking to buy. If you're looking for a more curated list, check out our look at the best Black Friday 2017 deals.
Black Friday 2017 Platform-Specific Deals
PS4
Sony's current-gen console will have a ton of deals this year--and a number of them are already live. You can already get a PS4 for $200, which is $100 off its usual price, but you'll want to wait for Black Friday if you're seeking the best possible deal, as you'll be able to get some bonuses for that same price. PS4 Pro drops to $350, DualShock 4 controllers are $40, and PSVR drops to as little as $200 (or $300 if you're interested in a bundle with a new game and the required camera). Some of the year's biggest games are also on sale, including Call of Duty: WWII for $40, Assassin's Creed Origins for $35, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy for $20. And if you're in need of PS Plus, you can get it for cheap right now.
As with Sony's console, there is a wide variety of deals on Xbox One and its games and accessories. The cheapest options bring the console down to $190 with some added bonuses, depending on where you pick it up. Higher prices also introduce more bundles and free games, but (at least as of this writing) you won't find the new Xbox One X on sale. Xbox One controllers drop to $40 at their cheapest, while new subscribers can pick up a month of Xbox Live Gold and/or Xbox Game Pass for just $1. In terms of games, Forza Motorsport 7 drops to $29, Gears of War 4 can be had for $15, and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will be $25.
As a newer platform, Nintendo Switch doesn't enjoy quite as many deals as Microsoft or Sony's systems. The system itself will be in stock at many stores, based on its appearance in their flyers, but at a regular price. You will, however, find some accessories on sale, such as a $20 Joy-Con charging station. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's new Explorer's Edition drops to $49, while 1-2-Switch can be had for as little as $20. A variety of other worthwhile games, including The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, Puyo Puyo Tetris, and Disgaea 5: Complete Edition will all be $20 each.
Nintendo's older platform doesn't get as much attention as it used to, thanks to Switch's dual console/handheld nature, but those in the market for one (or just looking to pick up some games) will still have some options this Black Friday. Nintendo will introduce a special new green Zelda 2DS system for Black Friday that comes with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for $80. Pokemon Sun and Moon will be available for $29 each, while Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will go for $20.
Best Buy will have some of the best deals on games this Black Friday--but keep in mind that the 20% discount granted with Gamers Club Unlocked will not stack with Black Friday deals. That said, you can get an Xbox One S with Madden 18 and a free second controller for $230, or an exclusive Red Crystal DualShock 4 PS4 controller for $40. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will be $20, while Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and The Evil Within 2 will each be $25. Additionally, Best Buy will have the best deal we've seen on Call of Duty: WWII, with a doorbuster deal dropping it to $40.
GameStop is often somewhat conservative with its deals, but it has some of this year's best Black Friday offers. It's throwing in a $50 gift card with the $200 PS4, and it's the only retailer we've seen (so far) to discount the PS4 Pro (bringing it to $350). It's also got some great prices on games, like Destiny 2 for $27 with a free Cayde-6 figure and Middle-earth: Shadow of War for $25. Additionally, it'll sell the Steam Link for a mere $5 and the GameStop-exclusive red Xbox One controller for $55.
Target has one of the best Xbox One S deals, throwing in a $25 gift card on top of the $190 price. Various Switch games are on sale, along with Resident Evil 7, Final Fantasy XV, For Honor, and Skyrim: Special Edition for $15 each. One of the bigger discounts on Call of Duty: WWII, dropping it to $45, can also be found at Target.
Xbox One and PS4 controllers will drop to $40 at Toys R Us on Black Friday, while Call of Duty: WWII will be $45. Destiny 2, NBA 2K18, and WWE 2K18 all drop to $35, and Persona 5 will be $30. The store will also be among those offering $190 Xbox One systems and $200 PS4s.
Walmart in many cases beats other retailers' prices, even if only by $1, which is still something. It's taking $50 off all Xbox One S bundles, so you'll be able to pick out just the one you want. Xbox One and PS4 controllers will be $39 each, including the Walmart-exclusive Crystal Blue DualShock 4. Walmart is also the only retailer we've seen with a deal on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, dropping its new Explorer's Edition to $49.
If you're looking for PC hardware, Newegg likely has you covered. Although GPU deals seem to be hard to come by, there are some decent options, such as the EVGA GTX 1060 for $180. The AMD Ryzen 7 1800X is just $320, while a 5 TB HDD is $120; alternatively, you can get a 500 GB SSD for $150. Other components and even game consoles and headsets are also on sale.
The Microsoft Store will have a variety of things on sale for Xbox One and PC fans, though in terms of specific games, we won't know exact pricing until Black Friday begins. However, there are a ton of different Xbox One bundles that are worth considering if you're in the market for the system. Many of these come with multiple free games of your choosing--and in many cases, those include new releases like Star Wars Battlefront II and Call of Duty: WWII.
The first portion of the PlayStation Store's Black Friday sale was fairly limited--it only included a select number of PS4 games, and it was only open to PlayStation Plus members. Non-PS Plus members gained access on November 21, when the sale expanded to include many more games.
Similar to the PlayStation Store sale, only Xbox Live Gold members had access to the Xbox Live sale until November 21. All of its deals are now live, and it includes a huge number of games across both Xbox One and Xbox 360 (including many backwards compatible titles).
GOG has launched its Black Friday sale, which discounts hundreds of DRM-free computer games. That includes The Witcher 3's Game of the Year Edition for $20 and Oxenfree for $4, while Owlboy drops to $18.69. Those looking to really save some cash can pick up MDK for free, and by spending at least $15, you'll get a free copy of StarCrawlers.
EA's online storefront has its own Black Friday sale going on, discounting numerous PC games. Titanfall 2: Ultimate Edition drops to $15, FIFA 18 to $36, Battlefield 1 Revolution to $30, Battlefield 1's Premium Pass (for those who already own the game) to $15, and The Sims 4 to $10. The just-launched Need for Speed Payback is also discounted already, dropping to $40.
Those in the market for PC hardware have a variety of options at Micro Center, which has already taken its deals live. That includes both accessories (the G502 Proteus Spectrum RGB mouse is $60, while the MK270 wireless keyboard and mouse combo are $20) and components. RAM and storage--both of the SSD and HDD variety--are discounted, as are pre-built computers for those who don't want to deal with any of the fuss.
Kohl's may not be a store you think of when it comes to games or game hardware, but it may be your best option for certain things this Black Friday. That includes purchasing a PS4, as the $200 system comes with $60 in Kohl's Cash (which is basically a limited-time gift card). You can get $45 in Kohl's cash with a $190 Xbox One S, and PS4 and Xbox One controllers will drop to $40.
Costco has some premium bundles that me up your alley if you're interested in what's included. A $220 Xbox One S bundle comes with an extra controller and three months of Xbox Game Pass, while a $290 PS4 includes Destiny 2 and Call of Duty: WWII. Keep in mind that you'll need to be a member to take advantage.
Prior to Black Friday, the Humble Store has launched its big fall sale, which essentially functions as an extended Black Friday promotion. To start out, you can get Brutal Legend for free until November 22. If you're interested in something specific, there's a good chance it's on sale, with more than 1,000 PC games discounted. LA Noire: Complete Edition is $18, Project Coaster is $20, Resident Evil 7 is $30, and Hotline Miami is $2.50, among many other deals.
The Ubisoft Store's Black Friday sale includes not just digital PC games, but merchandise, too. On the game side, you can get recent games like South Park: The Fractured But Whole or Assassin's Creed Origins for $40 each, while Rainbow Six Siege goes for $20. On the other hand, you can get a South Park Mysterion figure for $40 or an Assassin's Creed canvas backpack for $48.
While we don't know what to expect from Amazon on Black Friday itself, the website's pre-Black Friday deals are already available. In the UK, that includes a £200 Xbox One S bundle with games like Shadow of War or Star Wars Battlefront II. The store is also among those to offer the UK's PS4 Pro deal.
As is to be expected from a store brazen enough to name itself Game, the UK retailer will have games on sale this Black Friday. Many of its offers are on pre-owned items, like a 500 GB PS4 for £150 and a 500 GB Xbox One for £130. In terms of new games, you'll find Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition for £25 and Divinity: Original Sin for £10.
Black Friday 2017 Retailer-Specific Tech / Movie / TV Show Deals
Best Buy
Best Buy has a lot of TVs on sale, though as always, you'll want to do some research before jumping on any deals (there's a lot to consider, especially if you'll use it for gaming). Numerous movies will be discounted as well, including 4K Blu-rays of Wonder Woman, Fate of the Furious, and John Wick for $10 each.
Like Best Buy, Target has a number of TVs on sale, although many of these skew toward being lower-priced models, if that's what you're looking for. A number of Amazon devices, including the new Echo Show, are on sale, and you'll be able to find cheap Blu-rays--including Kong: Skull Island, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man Homecoming, and Logan for $10 each.
Walmart, too, has a variety of sub-$1000 TVs on sale, as well as Google Chromecast for $20 and the Netgear Nighthawk router for $89. A variety of Blu-rays can be had for $10, including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Baby Driver, and Logan. $6 Blu-ray options include the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Deadpool, and John Wick.
Black Friday 2017 is still a few days away, but you can already grab some retailers' early cheap deals. If you're in the US, check out all the PS4 Black Friday deals or a bunch of Xbox One Black Friday deals; otherwise, scroll down to see Amazon's early Black Friday UK deals--including games and console bundles for PS4 and Xbox One.
Amazon is also offering the new PS4 Pro deal--which bundles a 1 TB PS4 Pro with Call of Duty: WWII and FIFA 18 for £300--as well as the current PlayStation Plus offer. That bags you 12 months of PS Plus for £37.50.
When it comes to games, Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition is £25 on PS4 and Xbox One, while Destiny 2 is down to £29 on both platforms. The only other standalone game currently on offer is PS4's Yakuza Kiwami, which is down to £21.50. You can also grab FIFA 18 Ultimate Team points at 10% off right now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Some of Amazon's deals are exclusive to Prime members, while others are only good for a few hours. The company is adding more deals multiple times per day; check out the sale page here or keep an eye on GameSpot, where we'll keep you informed of any great deals.
Black Friday 2017 is still a few days away, yet UK retailers are already announcing their cheap game deals and setting them live. If you're in the US, check out all the PS4 Black Friday deals or a bunch of Xbox One Black Friday deals; otherwise, scroll down to see Game's early Black Friday UK deals--including games and accessories for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, Wii U, and more going cheap--all in one place.
At this stage, deals for PS4 and Xbox One consoles are looking pretty slim. Your only options from Game are a pre-owned original 500 GB PS4 for £150 or a pre-owned original 500 GB Xbox One for £130.
Finally, Nintendo Switch deals are limited to a single game: The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ is available for £30. Otherwise, only accessories are on offer, with no bundles going cheap right now. You can grab the Joy-Con steering wheel twin-pack accessory for £8 or a case that holds cartridges for £5; check out the rest of Game's Switch offers here.
Below, you'll find our comprehensive list of everything Game will have on sale; we'll update this post as necessary as Black Friday itself approaches. For much more, check out all of our Black Friday coverage through these links:
The biggest shopping day of the year, Black Friday 2017, is quickly approaching, and those in the market for new games, consoles, or accessories will find a ton of discounts across every major platform. In particular, a huge selection of titles will be on sale at various retailers this Black Friday, including some of this year's biggest releases, such as Destiny 2.
If you're looking to pick up Bungie's popular shooter on either PS4 or Xbox One, you'll have a lot of options to choose from. Based on the Black Friday ads that have been released, the best price offer will be at GameStop; the game retailer will have the title for $27 with a free Cayde-6 figure. Elsewhere, Best Buy and Target will both sell Destiny 2 for $30, while Toys R Us will have it for $35. However, no sales on the PC version of the game have been announced so far.
If you'd prefer to get Destiny 2 digitally, you'll also find some sizable discounts on Bungie's new title in the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. Both services have already begun their Black Friday sales, though at the moment only PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold members can take advantage of them. The standard version of Destiny 2 is available in both digital stores for $39. If you're also planning to pick up its DLC, you can purchase the game and expansion pass bundle for $67.49. Meanwhile, the Destiny 2 Digital Deluxe Edition (which also includes the expansion pass and other exclusive content packs) is available for $75. Those without a PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription will gain access to the sales on November 21.
Sales on the PC version have come online through Battle.net. Each version of the game is up to 35% off, bringing its prices in line with the digital console versions. This drops the standard edition to $39, the Expansion Pass bundle version to $67.49, and the Digital Deluxe Edition to $75 right now.
If you're still unsure if Destiny 2 is worth picking up, you can read more about it in our full Destiny 2 review. The game's first expansion, Curse of Osiris, is slated to release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on December 5. Bungie offered some new story details and a look at other content from the upcoming DLC in a recent livestream. Additional streams for Curse of Osiris will take place on November 21 and 29.
You can see the complete list of Destiny 2 deals for PS4 and Xbox One below. We'll continue to update the list as more Black Friday ads and prices are revealed. You can also find all of our other Black Friday 2017 coverage through the links at the bottom of this roundup.

Of its many ports over the last six years, Skyrim for PSVR marks the first time the game feels fundamentally different from the original release back in 2011. It's one thing to see the fantasy realm of Tamriel on a fresh 4K display. It's another to physically look up and see the red moon in a starry sky; to instinctively nod back to greet passing NPCs; to stare down bloodthirsty dragons while charging into battle. Seeing the same old world from a new perspective dissolves the lingering feeling that you've seen it all before.
The big appeal of Skyrim has always been its sense of scale. Tamriel is a world full of life, detail, and people who don't just exist for your benefit, but have lives of their own. Despite the relatively low-res representation of the world as seen through a PSVR headset, within a few minutes the pixel count fades in your mind as the illusion of presence takes hold. In VR, Tamriel feels like home, a place to embody your custom-made adventurer. It's a feeling no other version can match, and it grounds you in a land capable of instilling wonderment and dread in equal measure.
Given Skyrim's scope and diverse terrain, movement in VR can be tricky at times. You do still have the option of using a DualShock 4, but there's a nauseating physiological disconnect when using analog sticks to control movement and perspective in VR. Instead, the best way to play is with two PlayStation Move controllers. By default, you hold the left PS Move button, point at a location, and release to instantly teleport to it. Alternately, you can switch to "Direct Movement," where you tilt the controller in any direction and simply hold the left PS Move button to walk.
Your weapons are controlled naturally (swing your controller to swing your weapon), and while there's no reasonable way to account for the heft of a sword, it's hard not to get into character when the pressure is on. Magic fares best in this regard, and dual-wielding spells is a power trip unlike any other.
It's the more incidental side of Skyrim where the motion controls fare a bit worse. The gesture-based inventory management is largely unintuitive, and it's all too easy to stumble into a comedy of errors when attempting simple tasks. At best, a mistake might put you into a menu by accident. At worst, you might drop an item down a mountain. And while enveloping yourself in the upgrade menu's starry sky offers one of the more impressive moments the game, actually getting to the upgrades you want via gestures is sometimes easier said than done. And disappointingly, despite PSVR's built-in microphone, the game's iconic Shouts can't be voice controlled.
The issues with the Move being ill-optimized for the menus stand out all the more because each second spent fooling around with items is another second away from being entranced by Tamriel's sights and sounds. The second Skyrim VR drops you into that fateful carriage ride to the gallows, surrounded by frightened scoundrels, the change in perspective seems to make every little moment fresh and personal like never before. When the game goes off the rails, and you're running for your life to escape the threat of Alduin's dragon fire, the instant shift in urgency from "my character is in danger" to "I am in danger" grants even this classic moment a newfound level of tension.
Even with the mild learning curve of the Move controllers, wandering the countryside isn't just a never ending hike, but an excuse to fall in love once again with the world Bethesda's built. It's all too easy to lose track of whatever objective you had in mind, and instead aimlessly traipse through forests, follow random paths to get perfect views of the night sky, or deliberately tread into deep bodies of water to simply float face up downstream. The freezing cold of the Greybeards' mountain feels more convincing than ever and the momentary stare-down against the wolves that hunt the paths feels personal. There is no doubt that Tamriel is the same place it's always been, but it's fair to say you've never seen it like this before.
Likewise, Skyrim is still Skyrim, with the same host of bugs and structural shortcomings that highlight just how dated the game has become. Yet, for the PSVR, there is no game as ambitious, and there's certainly no other port of Skyrim that offers what this one does. VR isn't currently the ideal way to tackle a 50-hour RPG, but this new port proves that it's a challenge worth pursuing, and shows how breathtaking the results can be.
Capcom has unveiled another batch of DLC costumes for Street Fighter V. A set of Christmas-themed outfits will be added to the game next week, just in time for the holiday season, and they'll be accompanied by a set of retro costumes that same day.
A total of 10 DLC costumes will be released next week, four of which are holiday-themed outfits for Kolin, Alex, Cammy, and Menat. Alex's new outfit has him don a Santa hat and coat, while both Cammy and Menat's costumes feature cat ears. You can check them out in the gallery below.
Alongside the holiday costumes, Capcom is also releasing a set nostalgia costumes for Karin, Birdie, Balrog, and Chun-Li. Karin sports the outfit she wore in Street Fighter Alpha 3; Balrog dons the attire he wore as a boss in Street Fighter II; and Birdie and Chun-Li's new outfits are inspired by the ones each character wore in Street Fighter Alpha. Chun-Li also gets an additional pair of combat costumes. You can see all of them below.
All 10 of the new DLC costumes will be available on PS4 and PC via Steam beginning on November 29. You can purchase each of the outfits individually for $4. Capcom is also bringing back last year's holiday costumes for Juri, Laura, Zangief, Karin, Ken, and R. Mika, as well as the Frosty Boulevard stage. Those outfits can also be purchased individually or as part of the 2016 Holiday Pack, which will be available for 50% off.
Niantic has rolled out another update for Pokemon Go. The new version, 1.53.2 for iOS and 0.83.1 for Android, makes a few minor improvements to the popular mobile game, most notably if you own the new iPhone X.
Along with various bug fixes, the version 1.53.2 update optimizes Pokemon Go for the iPhone X's screen resolution. Niantic has also removed support for older devices that are still running iOS 8.
In terms of specific bugs that Niantic has addressed, the new update resolves an issue that prevented players from maxing out their Pokemon's CP. It also fixes a bug that caused error banners to remain on the screen until the app was restarted. Additionally, the new update improves load times when you open the game.
Pokemon Go players still have a few more days to catch the game's current Legendary Pokemon, Entei, Raikou, and Suicune. The three Legendary dogs will be available in their final regions until November 30, making this your last opportunity to add them to your team for the foreseeable future. This month, Suicune is in the Americas; Raikou is available in Europe and Africa; and Entei can be encountered in the Asia-Pacific region.
The latest Pokemon Go event, called the Global Catch Challenge, is also going on now for a limited time. This worldwide event tasks players with capturing an enormous number of Pokemon, with more rewards being unlocked as more Pokemon are caught. If players can capture 3 billion Pokemon before the event ends, the previously Japan-exclusive Farfetch'd will be made available around the world to catch for 48 hours. The Global Catch Challenge concludes on November 26.
Pokemon Go iOS Version 1.53.2 / Android Version 0.83.1 Patch Notes
Added support and made optimizations for the iPhone X screen resolution.
Removed support for devices running iOS 8.
Resolved a bug causing error banners to remain visible until the app is restarted.
Resolved a bug that prevented Trainers from powering up Pokemon to their max CP.
Looking for a new Xbox One or PlayStation 4? Retailer Kohl's is offering the consoles for a very nice discount on Black Friday. Ad scans from the store's Black Friday sale have been posted online, and some of the featured "Doorbuster" deals include a new 500 GB Xbox One S with a $45 Kohl's gift card for only $190. If you're looking for a PS4, Kohl's has the 1 TB PS4 with a $60 gift card for just $200.
Another option is the 1 TB Halo Wars 2 Xbox One bundle that comes with a copy of the game and two controllers for $330. It normally sells for $350. Additionally, Kohl's will sell PS4 and Xbox One controllers for $40 on Black Friday. That's not an amazing deal; while the gamepads officially go for $60, you can regularly find them discounted to around $45-50. Still, a deal is a deal. Additionally, Kohl's has the $100 Sony wireless Gold headset for only $70.
You can see the full 64-page Kohl's Black Friday ad scan on its website. Black Friday ad scans from all the other big stores should be coming soon, so keep checking back with GameSpot to see more about what you can get on the cheap this shopping season.
Black Friday 2017 is officially Friday, November 24, though some stores start their deals early. We'll report back with more details as they become available, but don't expect the newest Microsoft console to see many deals. You can read more about whether that's worth paying full price in our Xbox One X review.
Newegg has launched its Black Friday sale that'll be going on until Saturday night (November 25, 11:59pm PT). Over 3,000 items are part of the sale which range from video cards and processors to game consoles and headsets. With so much stuff discounted, we wanted to highlight some of the standouts. Take note that some of these items will sell out and temporarily be out of stock as the Black Friday sale goes on.
First thing to highlight are video cards. With their recent fluctuation in price, it's hard to find good deals, but a few sales on cards are worth considering. You can get your hands on an EVGA GTX 1060 (3GB, single-fan) for just $180, the Zotac Mini GTX 1060 (6GB) for $240 or a MSI GTX 1060 (6GB) for $250. For those set on AMD cards, look to the Sapphire Nitro+ RX 570 at $210 or the MSI Gaming X RX 580 at $240, both of which have 4GB of VRAM. At the high end, Gigabyte's GTX 1080 at $500 tends to be a good deal considering that card's MSRP is $550.
Great deals are abound for processors and AMD fans should be hyped up to upgrade. The quad-core Ryzen 5 1500X is only $165 and the eight-core Ryzen 7 1700 is at $270. Overclockers might want to look to the Ryzen 7 1800X that's just $320. Those that want to build or upgrade a workstation PC should look at the 16-core Ryzen Threadripper 1950X for $800. Intel users on the Z170/Z270 chipset can get the best consumer-level CPU in the Core i7-7700K for $290.
Memory is the third key component to a gaming PC and while prices have remained relatively high, a few good sales standout. G.Skill is offering 8GB Ripjaws V DDR4 RAM for $70 and dual-channel 8GB Ripjaws V DDR4 RAM for $75. Those on an older platform can look to 8GB of Patriot Viper DDR3 RAM priced at $51. For higher capacity, look to 16GB of ADATA XPG DDR4 RAM at $137; and if you want to get fancy, 16GB G.Skill TridentZ RGB DDR4 RAM for $160 should be on your radar.
You can't forget about storage drives in a gaming PC. Solid-state drives are highly recommended these days, and you can get a 120GB Patriot Burst SSD for $40, a 500GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD for $150, or a 1TB Crucial MX300 SSD for $238. If you need higher volume storage, the 5TB Toshiba X300 HDD is $120, 6TB WD Black HDD is $200, and the huge 12TB Seagate BarraCuda Pro is $460 (all three run at 7200 RPM).
Plenty of sales on monitors are live, and cheaper ones like the Acer GN276HL (27-inch, 144Hz, 1080p) for $190 or the BenQ GW2765HT (27-inch, IPS, 1440p) for $230 are both great deals. The LG 27MU58 (4K, FreeSync) at $300 is the best value for a 4K monitor at the moment. Curved monitors are also available for cheap: the LG 29UM69G (29-inch, FreeSync, IPS, 21:9, 1080p) is $200, MSI Optix G27C2 (27-inch, 144Hz, 1080p) is $230, and the Samsung C32H711 (32-inch, FreeSync, 1440p) is $400. If you want to ball out, the Asus ROG PG348Q (34-inch, IPS, 100Hz, 21:9, G-Sync, 1440p) has all the specs you could ask for at $920.

Black Friday is just around the corner and with that comes a plethora of deals on televisions, movies, and electronics. Walmart recently released what it has in store for the day, so shoppers can plan their trips accordingly. In most states, Walmart's doors open on Thursday at 6 PM, so if you're in the market for a new television and movie to watch, you'll be in luck.
Walmart has a couple of extremely cheap TVs available, including a 39-inch Element Smart TV for $125; however, this is not a 4K TV. The best bang for your buck comes from LG. Walmart has a 49-inch 4K Smart TV available for $328. Like most Black Friday deals, these may not be top-of-the-line televisions for your 4K gaming. You can check out television reviews on our sister site CNET to see if these deals are right for you.
While the retailer lacks sales on 4K movies, Walmart has a ton of Blu-rays and DVDs on sale this upcoming Black Friday, many of which come with codes for digital copies. You can get Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection together on Blu-ray for $10. For more recent releases, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Baby Driver, Logan, and War of the Planet of the Apes are all sold separately for $10 each. Finally, Walmart has a wide selection of $6 Blu-rays and $2 DVDs as well, and we listed some of the better ones below.
Below, you'll find a list of Black Friday deals in TVs, movies, and tech that we think might be up your alley. You can check out the complete listing of deals on Walmart's website. If you're interested in what the retailer has in the way of gaming, check out all of Walmart's Black Friday gaming deals. Otherwise, we have breakdowns of other retailers through the links below:
With Black Friday 2017 right around the corner, we've gotten a look at the deals many retailers will offer this year. That includes a wide variety for Sony's PlayStation 4--and virtually none for its older platforms, PS3 and Vita. We've rounded up all of the deals for those with a PS4 (or those looking to purchase one) below, and we'll continue to update this as Black Friday draws nearer and we learn about more.
On the console side, things are very simple (at least at this point). Rather than bundling the system with a variety of games, you'll be able to pick up the standard, 1 TB PS4 Slim for about $200 at a number of retailers. (Walmart will offer it for $199, just because it can.) The best option might be at Kohl's, which is giving away $15 Kohl's Cash with every $50 you spend. It will also be selling the PS4 for $200, letting you earn $60 in what are effectively limited-time gift cards; this Kohl's Cash has to be used between November 26 and December 6. GameStop will sell the system for $200 with a $50 gift card. A number of stores are selling it straight-up for $200 right now, including GameStop, Amazon, and Best Buy.
For those looking to pick up Sony's 4K-capable console, the PS4 Pro initially looked like it might have no deals. However, GameStop's leaked ad has revealed it will be on sale for $350. Barring any other as-of-yet unrevealed offers, your only other options would be at the system's regular $400 price (or $450 for the special-edition Destiny 2 and Star Wars Battlefront II models).
DualShock 4 controllers will see a pretty standard $20 price cut, dropping them down to $40 at many stores; that includes special colors which can only be had at Best Buy (Red Crystal) and Walmart (Blue Crystal).PlayStation VR will also be on sale--it will go as low as $200 at Target, but that only gets you the headset itself, and not the required camera (which you might already own). Elsewhere, you'll find the GT Sport PSVR bundle for $300 and the Skyrim PSVR bundle for $350. Various headsets will be discounted, too. In terms of deals you can pick up early, PS Plus is $40 at Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop as of this writing.
In terms of games, there are a ton on sale, with specific pricing varying by retailer. Walmart frequently has the best prices, but that's not true in all cases, so you'll want to plan ahead if you're hoping to maximize your savings. These discounts include many recent releases: at their cheapest, you'll be able to get Call of Duty: WWII for $40 (Best Buy), Assassin's Creed Origins for $35 (Best Buy/Target), Destiny 2 for $27 (GameStop), NBA 2K18 for $29 (Walmart), Need for Speed Payback for $35 (Best Buy/Target), and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus for $25 (Best Buy). Some of the year's biggest PS4 exclusives also see discounts, such as Persona 5 for $29 (Walmart), Horizon: Zero Dawn for $19 (Walmart), and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy for $29 (Walmart). Some deals are going live early; for instance, if you're a My Best Buy Elite or Elite Plus member, you can take advantage of many of the store's sales prices ahead of Black Friday.
Sony has launched the PlayStation Store Black Friday sale early, but only PS Plus members have access for now. The sale will widen to all PSN members on November 21, at which point it will also expand to include more games. There's a limited selection for the time being, and the discounts aren't as steep as those on physical versions, but the sale includes big recent games like AC Origins ($42), FIFA 18 ($36), and South Park: The Fractured But Whole ($42). You can see all of the digital games on sale here.
Below, you'll find our comprehensive list of physical PS4 deals. As noted above, we'll update this as we get the word on more deals from retailers. We don't yet know what to expect from Amazon, for instance. There are sure to bring even more deals to come, while others may be unlisted for the time being, so check back with us in the lead up to Black Friday. For more, check out retailer-specific deals breakdowns through the links below.
Black Friday 2017 is almost upon us, and it's time to start planning your shopping. Most retailers have released their ads well in advance of the big shopping day, giving us an early look at the deals we'll soon be able to take advantage of. Xbox One has no shortage of deals, both on hardware and games. Below, we've rounded up a comprehensive list of all the deals announced so far. We'll continue to update this post as Black Friday gets closer and we hear about more sales; meanwhile, some deals are already live.
Whereas things are fairly simple for those in the market for a cheap PS4, you'll have many more options to consider when purchasing an Xbox One. At the cheap end, you'll be able to pick up a basic Xbox One S 500 GB with no bundled games for about $190 at a number of retailers, ranging from Walmart to Toys R Us. However, there are some key differences--a Target doorbuster deal will throw in a $25 gift card for $190, while buying one at Kohl's will get you $45 in Kohl's Cash. Alternatively, there are a wide variety of bundles with different games and freebies, as laid out below. What you won't find are deals on Xbox One X. A used Xbox 360 will be free with a mail-in rebate at GameStop, however.
If you're looking for controllers, again, many retailers will offer a standard discount of $20, bringing the cheapest options to $40. Different Xbox Live Gold subscriptions will be discounted, with perhaps the best option being a three-month membership for $10 at Best Buy. Microsoft has discounted both a month of Xbox Live Gold and a one-month membership to its Xbox Game Pass service to $1, but only for new subscribers. Additionally, a variety of headsets will be discounted.
Meanwhile, the Xbox Store Black Friday sale has begun for all Xbox Live members, following an Xbox Live Gold-only period. It includes hundreds of games, bundles, and DLC packs at nice prices (if, generally speaking, not as cheap as their physical counterparts). There are far too many to list below, but you can see them all here. Both Xbox One and Xbox 360 games are included, including a number of backwards compatible titles on the latter.
You can check out our comprehensive list of physical Xbox One deals below. As noted above, this is an evolving list--we'll update it as we find out about more deals. Amazon has not revealed its offerings yet In the meantime, check our what we know about below, or see what's available on other platforms and at specific retailers through these links:
James Cameron has been talking about his sequels to Avatar for many years, and they are finally in production. The director is shooting no fewer than four more movies in the sci-fi series, with the first set to arrive in 2020, and he has spoken recently about some of the technical challenges involved.
In an interview with Collider, Cameron revealed that a lot of the first two sequels will be set in and around water. Many the cast are playing Na'vi, the alien inhabitants of the planet Pandora, who are filmed using motion-capture technology. As Cameron explains, mo-cap has never been used underwater before, and his VFX team have had to develop some pioneering methods to make it work.
"It's never been done before and it's very tricky," he said. "Our motion capture system, like most motion capture systems, is what they call optical base, meaning that it uses markers that are photographed with hundreds of cameras. The problem with water is not the underwater part, but the interface between the air and the water, which forms a moving mirror. That moving mirror reflects all the dots and markers, and it creates a bunch of false markers.
"It's a little bit like a fighter plane dumping a bunch of chaff to confuse the radar system of a missile. It creates thousands of false targets, so we've had to figure out how to get around that problem, which we did. Basically, whenever you add water to any problem, it just gets ten times harder. So, we've thrown a lot of horsepower, innovation, imagination, and new technology at the problem, and it's taken us about a year and a half now to work out how we're going to do it."
The first cast image from the Avatar sequel was revealed in September. Although specific plot details about Avatar 2 are scarce, producer Jon Landau did explain that the young cast would help shift the tone of the movie. "We never had this youthful element before, and that brings a different kind of energy to the film," he said. "They represent the future generation of Pandora and play a very significant role--not just in this movie but throughout all the movies."
Black Friday is upon us. The annual shopping bonanza is coming up on Friday, and one of the games that will be on sale is Blizzard's hero shooter Overwatch. The Game of the Year Edition, which contains extra cosmetic items, is going to be about half-off.
Walmart appears to have the best deal this year, offering it on PS4 and Xbox One for only $29. Best Buy, Target, and GameStop will sell the shooter for $30. If you're OK going without a disc, the well-received game is discounted to $30 on the Xbox Store and PlayStation Store. You can get that deal right now if you can't or don't want to wait.
Below you'll find the full list of all the Overwatch deals we've found so far; we'll continue to update as more Black Friday savings and prices are revealed. You can find our complete coverage of other Black Friday 2017 deals through the links at the bottom of this post.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Black Friday 2017 Deals:
Black Friday 2017 is almost here. Lots and lots of games are on sale this year, including new releases. Ubisoft's South Park: The Fractured But Whole is among them, with a handful of big retailers offering the game's PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions on the cheap.
It looks like Walmart has the best deal this year, offering the game for only $29 on Black Friday. Target has it for $30, while Best Buy will sell the turn-based game for $35 and Toys R Us and GameStop for $40. The Ubisoft Store's Black Friday sale is now underway and drops the PC version to $40. Given that the game only just came out in October, those are some pretty sweet deals.
Like its predecessor, The Stick of Truth, Fractured but Whole puts players in the role of the New Kid, who moves into South Park and joins a superhero team with Cartman and other South Park mainstays. GameSpot's Fractured But Whole review scored the game an 8/10. Reviewer Miguel Concepcion said, "It's an accomplishment that this game will wholly entertain devoted fans while delivering a heap of jokes that won't fly over the heads of casual viewers."
You can check out a complete list of South Park: The Fractured But Whole deals for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One below. We'll continue to update this as more Black Friday ads are revealed. You can also check out all of our other Black Friday coverage through the links at the bottom of this post.
