Season 6 of Fortnite is almost upon us. After much speculation--and a rather bizarre turn of events related to the mysterious purple cube that has been rolling around the island--Epic has finally confirmed when the new season of its massively popular battle royale game will begin, and it's very soon.
The developer announced on Twitter that Season 6 will begin this coming Thursday, September 27. [Update: Following the release date, we have our next bit of info regarding the new season: a pair of teaser images. The first shows what appears to be a llama skin that might become available, while the other is a woman in a cowboy hat. Wednesday brought with it another teaser, this one featuring a werewolf.]
It was presumed that the season would begin sometime this week, as the official Fortnite website stated that Season 5 officially wraps up on September 25, and Epic typically kicks off a new season shortly after the previous one ends. This, however, is the first time the developer has confirmed when Season 6 will start, although it hasn't shared any additional details beyond that. Just what Season 6's theme will be, or what kind of comet/rift-style event will kick it off, is still anyone's guess.
That also makes this your last opportunity to complete any remaining challenges and unlock the rest of Season 5's Battle Pass rewards. If you need help finishing up any challenges, you can find tips for each weekly set of missions in our complete Fortnite Season 5 challenge roundup. We've also put together a gallery of all the Season 5 rewards gallery so you can see what you can unlock.
We don't yet know what to expect from Season 6, but some strange events have been unfolding in the game ahead of it. Back in August, a lightning bolts struck the desert and left a mysterious purple cube in its wake, which fans had begun affectionately referring to as "Kevin." The cube would react differently depending on how players interacted with it; standing close to it would rejuvenate players' shields, but striking it would cause them to launch backward and take damage.
Soon after it materialized, the cube began slowly rolling around Fortnite's map. It was unclear what its destination was, but last week, the cube plunged into Loot Lake and melted, much to the surprise of fans. Not only did it turn the water purple, but now the entire lake has effectively become a giant trampoline, boasting the same bouncy property the cube had. It's unclear how this all relates to Season 6, but we won't have to wait much longer to find out.
What is it we're really afraid of? Is it demonic nuns and dancing witches? Or are our real fears less immediate--living beyond everything we know, trapped underground for the rest of our lives, and forced to wear corsets and eat gelatinous, flavorless cubes for sustenance? Whatever you fear, American Horror Story has done an alarmingly good job tapping into it, including in its eighth season, Apocalypse.
The show's focus has morphed over the seasons. There's less about serial killers, demons, and zombies now, and more about the fear brandished by politicians or that of impending nuclear annihilation. The last two season of AHS have that in common: They're eerily realistic in the fears they portray.
That's not to say we're all going to wind up imprisoned by eccentric, autocratic cults after the bombs drop. It's just that American Horror Story, especially in Apocalypse, sends our imaginations reeling precisely because the end of the world is something we've all considered, especially in the last couple of years.
Enter Leslie Grossman, whose character in AHS Apocalypse, Coco St. Pierre Vanderbilt, is a scathing caricature of both the aloof 1% and the vapid obsessions of social media culture. Her rant berating the bunker's more dignified occupants as "geriatrics" was American Horror Story gold, equal parts hilarity and deep-seated terror. Vanderbilt is undoubtedly an idiot, but at the same time, you get the sense that she might be the last one standing at the end of all this.
We chatted with Grossman about the show's future, politics, those crazy outfits, nuclear obliteration, and more. When you're done here, check out our interview with AHS star Adina Porter, and read more about this season's first massive connection to the rest of the series.
GameSpot: I wanted to talk about the scene in the second episode where you're kind of berating the "geriatrics."
Leslie Grossman: Which is hilarious because [Adina Porter and I] are the same age.
Listing off all the things that we have so many options for, it seemed almost improvised, so I was curious.
It was not improvised. I can tell you that nothing on the show in improvised.
It just seemed like the kind of thing that you could maybe riff a little bit.
I probably could have, but this is not the place to that. This is a show where you stay very true to the script. And also because it's such a specific world, it's really, I think, necessary to stick to what's on the page.
It was so funny though.
I did not like saying those things to Joan [Collins], and I did apologize before we shot it. I said, "I don't agree with any of these things, and I think you're glamorous and gorgeous and perfect." I did not like having to yell at Joan, that was not fun for me.
Yeah, of course, I never even thought about it. Although I imagine she's heard it all, you know.
Well, obviously it's my character, and she's beyond a pro and she doesn't take any of that personally.
I think during each season of American Horror Story we can kind of look at it and say, you know, it's pretty easy to pinpoint what the central themes and ideas are. I think it's too early in this season but I was wondering from your perspective, what do you think the season is really about?
Unfortunately the show is so strict about spoilers. I feel terrible when I have these interviews because I'm like, "I can't tell you anything." But I think that at this point we are fighting for humankind and the soul of humankind. I think that, at this point, is the theme that we're involved with right now.
I'm not gonna ask you whether Billy Eichner comes back.
That's good because I can't answer, but go on.
I will just say that it was so funny seeing him in the first episode and then realizing what was about to happen. Especially when his name popped up in the credits as a guest star, it said "guest starring Billy Eichner," I said, "Oh crap, that's not a good sign." Because I love the two of you together. So I hope you get to have some scenes with him this season.
Well all I can tell you is that Billy is one of my most favorite people on the planet and I absolutely love working with him, and it is a joy and a pleasure whenever we get to do that. So that's all I can say for now. But didn't he have the best line? I love when he went, "Don't leave me in Santa Monica, you b****!" What a great line. I loved it.
My favorite joke I kept seeing online was that it was just normal Santa Monica traffic, that wasn't because of the missiles.
It didn't even look too horribly gridlocked. I guess you're right.
So the set that you guys have shot on, when we're watching, it does such a good job of seeming so dark, so oppressive, claustrophobic, underground--I was wondering what it feels like when you're there?
Well first of all, how beautiful are those sets?
It's amazing.
One of the joys of getting to work on this show is that every single department is so at the top of their game. So you're really working with the best of the best and everyone you're working with has won multiple Emmys and is really fantastic. So to see that craftsmanship and work up close, because it makes your job as an actor so much easier, because they're giving you the whole world and you feel like you're in it.
I really love being in those sets for a couple reasons. First of all the furniture is really comfortable. And second of all, I love that lighting. I just wanna be shot in candlelight all day long. So I am very happy to be in those sets, and I think that the bunker is a character in and of itself. It fleshes everything out, and again, it just helps make our job so much easier. The same way that Lou Eyrich designed all the clothes, you know, they're so fantastic.
And by the way, when we're wearing those dresses we are fully corseted into them. There's a lot of layers, somebody has to help you get dressed, and it's a process, and that process really helps you get into that character and feel like you're part of that world. And it's the same thing with the hair and makeup, so I think those sets have absolutely have been incredibly helpful. And they do feel a little bit claustrophobic when you're in it. But again, I love that lighting so I'm happy to work in those sets all day.
Mentioning corsets, to me it sounds so miserable, but it must also help because the characters are these contemporary people who are thrust into this almost primitive situation. So I imagine that must help when you're literally forced into these crazy constricting, restrictive clothes, right?
I mean, I have to say, the costumes on the show, they're so good and they're so concerned with your comfort, so I'm never sitting in something where I can't breathe or I feel like I'm gonna die, and you actually weirdly get used to it and then when you take it off at the end of the day you're like, "Oh my god! How did I sit in that for 14 hours?" But when you're in it, it's like you weirdly get used to it. And the one huge advantage to a corset is it makes you sit up straight, and I have terrible posture, so it forced me to sit really straight. So it has its advantages.
That actually sounds pretty good.
Yeah, it's not bad.
So what's been your favorite thing about working with the same group of actors but in these wildly different kinds of scenarios?
My favorite thing--and it makes for a boring story--is that every single person is a joy to work with and they're all my friends. So it does feel like I'm getting to work with people who I would hang out with in my regular life, and that is, I think, rare. And it's a huge gift. It's the best. I am the luckiest person on earth. I feel so fortunate that not only do I get to be on this show, but I get to work with people who are an insane caliber of actor, and then on top of that they're lovely, and we really have real friendships, and we really have a very good time together at work. That is not super common, so that's always my favorite part of being on that show.
It is nice! And what's fun and dishy is to say that we don't get along or that there's fighting. There is not. There is none of that. Also, when you're working with people that are at this level--you know what I mean? That doesn't exist. Nobody needs to prove anything to anybody who's there. So--I am not including myself by the way in that group. I'm talking about number one, two, three on the call sheet. These are people that are multiple award winners, who have incredible careers, and they're the utmost professionals, so everybody is truly lovely to work with. I'm very, very fortunate.
You're super politically active on Twitter which I love, I think it's awesome.
Thank you--and in my life by the way. I think that there's a thing where people feel, "Well, I tweeted that out, so that's enough," but I also engage in stuff in my real life...I don't shy away from being very specific and political on my Twitter. Which has gotten me into trouble, but I could not care less.
And it's gotten me into trouble, just writing about the last season of this show.
Oh sure, absolutely, yes.
What do you think of the show's politics, or like some people do you think that the show doesn't have politics?
I think that last year the show was trying to show all sides. I remember when right before Cult came out people found out what it was gonna be about, there was like, "Oh, I don't wanna hear about Trump and Hillary anymore." There really was almost never a mention of either of them. It was really about the discord in our country and what was, and is, going on. What I felt the overarching themes of last year, it was really to me about fear, and how people use fear to control--how people can let fear overtake them to make choices they would never think they would make. And how you cannot allow that to happen. And that really, really spoke to me.
Because I don't have phobias. I'm not claustrophobic, I'm not afraid of, you know, all the stuff that you saw last year that Allie's character had, I'm not afraid of holes or clowns or any of that stuff. I am, however, afraid of gun violence and global warming, and, you know, nuclear escalation, women having their right to decide what to do with their bodies being taken away.
Yeah, real things.
Those are things that I find terrifying. So I don't know how I could be quiet about it. But I think the show actually doesn't pick a side and I think the show shows all sides. That's my opinion. It was a long answer to a short question.
No, no. It's a complicated question though. You mentioned your real world fears and I think that's one of the things about American Horror Story in the last couple of seasons--it's not really about serial killers and demons and stuff anymore. It's about things that are so real. Seeing Los Angeles get annihilated by nuclear bombs in the first episode is like--
When I read the first script I have to say I got super freaked out, and I've always felt that Ryan was psychic, always--because if you remember in Cult, there were things that were written and filmed, and then stuff started happening in our culture that was being reflected in Cult. And then the whole Me Too movement really exploded. And I feel like that was a direct arc that happened in Cult, about women taking back their power, and, you know, when I read the first script and there was a nuclear bomb in the first one I was like, "Oh god!"
Yeah, I don't wanna hear that he's psychic when that's what's in the first episode.
I know! I just think he has a really specific gift about being able to tap into the zeitgeist, and then really go for it. So I think that--look, I have not thought about nuclear escalation and war as much as I have in the last year since I was a little kid and we were in the throes of the Cold War. So this is something that I think that people are thinking about now more than they have ever in the last thirty years plus. So of course, Ryan is gonna take that and run with it, because that's really terrifying and really, really scary. And I thought that that was really terrifying, you know, that the alarms start going off on the phones and you know, that's what it would really be like. And unfortunately, I don't have a billionaire family that has secured me a spot in a bunker. So I wouldn't have the same advantages that Ms. Coco St. Pierre Vanderbilt would have. That's a real fear of obviously anybody. That, I think, was what made that first episode pretty terrifying.
Although based on how things are going in the bunker maybe it would be best to just not.
A nuclear war might be the least of their problems?
Yeah.
Yeah, that's probably fair to say.
Lastly, I just wanna ask if we're gonna see you on the Good Place again this season?
You are.
Yay.
I come back as maybe the worst mother that's ever existed. And I have to say, I love that show so much. I think Mike Schur is a genius. To work with Kristen Bell is such a dream, and I get to work with Ted Danson, which I haven't had the chance to do before, and I have to say, I am such an unabashed just total fan of his and was so thrilled when he got nominated for the Emmy, because he is brilliant. He really is. He's such a joy, and lovely, and funny, and fantastic, and it was so fun to get a chance to work with him. I love that show. I love it, I love it, I love it, and I hope they continue to bring me back, because it's one of my most favorite jobs that I've ever had the good fortune to have in my entire career. So, yes. Keep your eyes out for me and my tacky, tacky wardrobe and extensions, which are hilarious.
Thanks Leslie!
American Horror Story Apocalypse airs Wednesdays on FX.
The start of Season 6 of Epic's phenomenally popular Fortnite: Battle Royale is just around the corner. The new season kicks off on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile later this week, but to help further build excitement for its release in the meantime, the studio has begun dropping teaser images to usher in its impending arrival. The first features...a llama. Well, it's a bit more complicated than that. [Update: Following the pattern from just before the start of Season 5, Epic has released second and third Season 6 teasers. This one features some similarities--the purple color scheme and the presence of the cube and lightning--but otherwise is quite different.]
As it did in the run up to Season 5, it appears Epic will share a series of teaser images leading up to the start of Season 6. The company tweeted the first one out on Monday, which presumably shows off a new DJ llama skin you'll be able to get your hands on during Season 6; in the background, you can see the infamous purple cube. "All great parties need a DJ," the tweet reads. It should be noted that Fortnite's Battle Royale mode celebrates the first anniversary of its release very soon.
Epic hasn't shared many details yet on what to expect from Season 6. The developer recently confirmed the new season officially begins on Thursday, September 27, but we don't know much about it beyond that. One thing that is safe to assume, however, is that Epic will offer another new Battle Pass when the season does kick off. The developer has released a new Battle Pass at the start of every season thus far; these could be purchased for 950 V-Bucks and leveled up as you completed weekly challenges to acquire new cosmetics and other rewards.
Some strange things have also been happening in the game itself that signal some sort of major changes in store for Season 6. Last month, a purple cube materialized on the island after the desert was struck by a lightning bolt that emerged from the giant rift in the sky. The rift has since closed, and the cube began slowly rolling around the island until it made its way to Loot Lake and plunged in, turning the lake purple and bouncy.
It's unclear what any of this means for the future of Fortnite, but every lingering question should be answered when Season 6 begins this Thursday. In the meantime, it's your last chance to unlock any remaining Season 5 rewards. That season ends on Tuesday, September 25, so you have until then to complete Season 5 challenges. If you need help finishing them up, you can find tips for all 10 weeks in our Season 5 challenges roundup.
Sony has been resistant to allowing cross-play between PlayStation 4 and other consoles, even for the mega-hit Fortnite: Battle Royale. That changed today with an open beta allowing cross-play functionality, but those who have already spent time unlocking rewards or buying Battle Passes might still find it frustrating to juggle separate accounts with their own loot. Thankfully, Epic has a few tools to smooth that over in the works.
According to a brief statement on Twitter, the studio is working on two tools. The first, coming within a few days, will allow players to unlink a Fortnite account from one console and then relink it to another account. The announcement didn't give word on whether this option would be unlimited. The more expansive tool, coming in November, will allow users to merge accounts and combine all of their Battle Royale purchases together.
The first seems like a stop-gap solution while waiting for the more complete one to come later this year. Still, it should reduce some of the issues with players who may have chosen one console over the other despite their actual preferences, simply because of the cross-play situation.
The lack of cross-play on PlayStation 4 led to some criticism from competitors like Microsoft and Nintendo, which used their social media accounts to poke fun at Sony's stubbornness. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney called PS4 cross-play "inevitable," so it's likely the studio has been working on these tools since seeing the writing on the wall. Soon we'll be ringing in Season 6, so this is coming just in time.
Ubisoft has announced the test server for the PC version of Rainbow Six Siege is once again live. You can log into the test server to try out and provide feedback for several gameplay changes and bug fixes coming to Siege.
One of the more noteworthy changes is adding the option to enable or disable mouse scrolling inputs for weapon swapping. The mechanic has been in plenty of other competitive first-person shooters, and the PC Siege fanbase has been asking for Ubisoft to implement the feature since the game's release.
The PC test server also updates Glaz's OTs-03 so that it can no longer penetrate Castle's barricades. A toggle has been added to both Montagne and Pulse's special abilities too. The final gameplay update affects deployable shields. You will no longer be able to block other players from vaulting through a window by placing a shield next to it.
For the full patch notes, you can read Ubisoft's blog post on Reddit. Below, we've listed the bug fixes that are live on the test server right now.
The test server is only live on the PC version of Rainbow Six Siege, but the game is also available for Xbox One and PS4.

The new trailer for Creed II is here. The sequel to 2015's Rocky spin-off stars rising boxer Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed once more, with Sylvester Stallone returning to play Rocky Balboa for the eighth time. It hits theaters on November 21.
The latest trailer centers on the confrontation between Creed and Viktor Drago, the son of the Ivan Drago, the Russian boxer who killed Adonis's dad Apollo in the classic Rocky IV. As well as Jordan and Stallone, we see Tessa Thompson as Creed's girlfriend Bianca, plus Romanian boxer Florian Munteanu as Viktor. Even more excitedly for Rocky fans, we finally have footage of Dolph Lundgren, reprising his role as Ivan Drago and looking like he still wants to beat up Rocky. Check it out above.
This trailer follows the first teaser, that was released back in June. Creed II is directed by Steven Caple Jr., who previously made the acclaimed 2016 indie hit The Land. Stallone himself was originally set to direct--as well as co-write--the movie, but he ultimately stepped aside. In December, the action icon explained this decision, stating that it was important for the director to be "part of this generation like I was in mine, to make the story as relatable as possible."
In a recent interview with Movieweb, Cheo Hodari Coker, who wrote the movie with Stallone, spoke about the themes of the movie. "It's about the legacies of sons haunted by their fathers," he said. "Even though Drago is alive, his son is haunted by him because Drago is a broken man who's trying to rebuild himself through the son. Apollo Creed isn't broken but because Apollo died, Adonis Creed is still haunted by his father's death and how it defined him, what it is it means now to be a champion. He's aspiring to be a champion but also at the same time trying to figure out who it is he is."
Stallone won a Golden Globe for his performance as the aging Rocky in Creed and also received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The movie made $173.6 million at the worldwide box office.
We're less than a day away from the start of Season 6 in Fortnite. The new season kicks off on all platforms this Thursday, September 27, and as it has done for the past several days, developer Epic Games has shared another teaser image that gives fans a glimpse at what is likely one of the new skins they'll soon be able to get.
The new teaser, which you can see below, shows off a werewolf character set against the infamous purple cube that has been the source of so much speculation in the game. This is the third teaser Epic has dropped in the lead up to Season 6; the first featured a robotic llama, while the second featured a bandit character.
Epic hasn't shared many details on what players can expect from Season 6, so it remains to be seen whether it will follow a loose theme, as Seasons 4 and 5 did, and what other changes are in store for the game. Given its prominence in the teaser images, though, it seems guaranteed that the aforementioned purple cube will play a prominent role.
If you haven't been following Fortnite the past few weeks, a mysterious cube materialized on the island after the desert was struck by a lightning storm back in August. As players quickly discovered, the cube had some unusual properties; standing near it would rejuvenate their shields, while striking it would cause them to be launched backward. Soon after it appeared, the cube began slowly rolling around the island, ultimately plunging into Loot Lake and turning it purple and bouncy.
With October rapidly approaching, Sony has announced the lineup of free games PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download during the spookiest month of the year. So without further ado, let's run down the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita games that will be available for free between October 2 and November 5.
As usual, two games will be free for each console, but thanks to Cross-Play, you can play five of them on PS4. Friday the 13th: The Game is the fitting headliner for October's PS4 offering. It's an asymmetrical online multiplayer game in which one player controls the masked killer Jason Voorhees as a group of other players try to escape with their lives. Laser League, a new online multiplayer game from the makers of OlliOlli, is also free on PS4 in October.
Over on PS3, Plus members can download the gorgeous puzzle game The Bridge (also playable on PS4) and the trippy genre mash-up Master Reboot. PS Vita owners can grab the side-scrolling twin-stick shooter Rocketbirds 2: Evolution and the retro-style sci-fi adventure game 2064: Read Only Memories. Both Vita games support Cross-Play with PS4.
As if that's not enough, the PS4 game Knowledge is Power continues to be free for PS Plus subscribers. It's a multiplayer trivia game that supports up to six players who can use their smartphone as controllers.
Since October hasn't arrived quite yet, it's not too late to download September's free PS Plus games. These include Destiny 2, God of War III: Remastered, Here They Lie, Another World - 20th Anniversary Edition, Qube: Director's Cut, Foul Play, and Sparkle 2. Whew.
Nintendo fans have had it good for a long, long time. Unlike Xbox and PlayStation owners, they've never had to pay to play their games online. This free period, like all good things, has come to an end. With the launch of Nintendo Switch Online--which is now live with the 6.0 system update--Nintendo has begun charging for online play, although there is a free seven-day trial available to sample it first.
As with Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus, anyone who wants to get the most out of their Switch will all but have to subscribe. (Note: this doesn't affect Wii U or Nintendo 3DS owners; online service for those systems will remain free). And while it's not ideal having to pay for something you used to get for nothing, you won't have much of a choice.
Here's a look at everything you need to know about Nintendo Switch Online.
Pricing
First, some good news: Nintendo Switch Online costs significantly less than the competition. While you have to pay $60 for a year's subscription to Sony and Microsoft's services, Nintendo only charges $20. You can order a subscription here. Here's the breakdown of pricing for a single account holder.
One month -- $4
Three months -- $8
One year -- $20
If you have multiple people in your house who want their own accounts, you'll need to spring for the family plan. It costs $35 per year and allows up to eight people to play online.
Now let's take a look at what you get for your money.
If you look at the Eshop page for online first-party games like Mario Tennis Aces, you'll see Nintendo has added a disclaimer warning that online play will require a subscription. Free games like Fortnite don't have the disclaimer and can continued to be played online for free.
Nintendo Switch Online App
Some games, like Fortnite, have voice chat built in. Unfortunately, many games--including Nintendo's first-party titles--don't. And while voice chat is a standard built-in feature for PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live, that's not the case with Nintendo Switch Online.
This feature is already in place, but to talk with other players while playing online, you need to download the Nintendo Switch Online app (you can grab it here: iOS, Android). Yes, you'll need two separate devices to play and talk to people online.
Save Data Cloud Backup
If you were to lose your Nintendo Switch and buy a new one, all of your save data would be gone forever. But with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, most of your save data is backed up on Nintendo's servers.
Unfortunately, it's not all sunshine and cool breezes when it comes to Nintendo's cloud saves. Some games don't support online save data, and if you let your subscription lapse, you could lose your saves.
Access to Classic NES Games
PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscribers get free games each month they can download and play on their respective systems. Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will get a similar benefit, but with much older games.
When Nintendo Switch Online launches, subscribers will get access to a selection of 20 classic NES titles. The games will also have added online play, so you won't need your second player to be in the same room with you. Here's the launch lineup of NES games:
Balloon Fight
Baseball
Donkey Kong
Double Dragon
Dr. Mario
Excitebike
Ghosts 'n Goblins
Gradius
Ice Climber
Ice Hockey
The Legend of Zelda
Mario Bros.
Pro Wrestling
River City Ransom
Soccer
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 3
Soccer
Tecmo Bowl
Tennis
Yoshi
Nintendo has also announced what games are coming to the service through the end of the year. In October, we'll get Solomon's Key, NES Open, and Super Dodge Ball. November will bring Metroid, Mighty Bomb Jack, and Twinbee. In December, Nintendo will add Wario's Woods, Ninja Gaiden, and Adventures of Lolo.
Special Offers
Nintendo will also offer exclusive special deals and offers to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. So far, the company has detailed two of these offers. One is a download code for exclusive in-game Splatoon 2 gear that will be available for anyone with a 12-month membership. The other is the ability to purchase the Switch-compatible NES controllers seen above.
That's all we know so far about Nintendo Switch Online. Presumably, more information will be available as the release date nears.

The latest Spider-Man PS4 update has arrived, and it adds a new feature and a number of other fixes and changes. The new feature is a small but welcome one: the ability to invert the camera horizontally, while Photo Mode gets a new Exposure setting and three new filters.
In a tweet, developer Insomniac Games said it's aware of the other new features players want to see. "There is more to come," the studio wrote.
As for the bug fixes, the new patch fixes an issue that could result in getting stuck inside the Empire State Building spire. The update also makes Research Stations look better. Elsewhere, the update generally improves stability while it also fixes a number of UI and pop issues.
GameSpot's Spider-Man review scored the game a 9/10. "Insomniac has created a superior Spider-Man experience that leaves a lasting impression, one that has you longing for just one more swing around New York City, even after the credits roll," reviewer Edmond Tran wrote.

Tuesday has arrived, which means the weekly reset in Destiny 2: Forsaken has taken place. As always, this marks a shift across the game, as standard challenges are reset (offering a new set of Powerful rewards) and other activities are shuffled to present you with something new to do. The Iron Banner has concluded and Lord Saladin is gone from the Tower, but this week marks the debut of a new Crucible mode. Here's everything to know about the latest weekly reset.
Malfeasance Is Here
When playing Gambit, a special Primeval can now spawn in that drops an item called the Seething Heart. This leads to a series of quest steps (some of them quite difficult) that ultimately results in the acquisition of the Exotic hand cannon Malfeasance.
Breakthrough, The New Crucible Mode, Is Live
Bungie has launched a brand-new Crucible game type called Breakthrough. This is a mode that transforms partway through the match. Initially, two teams compete to control an area. The team that successfully does so gets their hands on the Breaker, which then has to be taken to the other team's Vault to hack it (while that team attempts to defend). The hacking team has a certain amount of time to successfully pull off the hack, and if they don't manage to complete it, they lose. It's a best-of-five affair.
Breakthrough will be live for a week as the featured playlist (and is available to Forsaken owners for private matches), so you can easily jump in and take part in a match. With the weekly reset on October 2, Breakthrough will join the Competitive playlist. There are also new maps, including a PS4-exclusive one, to play the mode on.
Ascendant Challenge
The Ascendant Challenge has moved locations once again. Once you've grabbed the weekly bounty from Petra, you can use a Tincture of Queensfoil to gain a buff that will allow you to see and access the Taken portal. This week's portal is located in Harbinger's Seclude; you can see where to go and what to do in our Ascendant Challenge guide. A piece of Powerful gear is up for grabs by completing the bounty. Just be prepared for some platforming.
Spider Bounty -- Wanted: Gravetide Summoner
Spider's set of bounties have rotated, but the one you should care about most is the most expensive. For five Ghost Fragments, you can pick up Wanted: Gravetide Summoner, which is worth doing because it offers Powerful gear, unlike Spider's other bounties. The corresponding Adventure for this bounty can be found on Titan.
Nightfall
Among the Nightfall Strike options this week are the following: The Corrupted, The Inverted Spire, and Strange Terrain. All three carry the same 540 Power level recommendation. Most notable among these is The Corrupted, which was added to the game after Forsaken's launch, once the DLC's Raid was beaten for the first time.
Eververse
The selection of items and bounties available from Tess at Eververse has changed again. Of course, you'll want the Rise of the Challenge bounty, which provides you with a Prismatic Facet for completing any challenge (the Facet is used to activate the Prismatic Matrix, netting you a cosmetic reward). Among the weekly bounties, the most lucrative--in terms of Bright Dust earned based on the Eververse Bouty Notes spent--is Heroism in Battle, which has you complete five Strikes within a week.
As for the lineup of items available with the Prismatic Matrix, which rotates each week, there are two Exotics and a handful of items up for grabs--all 10 are from Forsaken. Here's the full list:
All Mine -- Exotic emote
Sneak Attack -- Exotic weapon ornament for The Colony
Loaded Dice -- Legendary weapon ornament for Hazard of the Cast
Denial Dance -- Legendary emote
Swiftsong -- Legendary Sparrow
Spectral Circuit Shell -- Legendary Ghost Shell
Cordial Diamond Shell -- Legendary Ghost Shell
Battle-Shrike -- Legendary Sparrow
Beastly Projection -- Rare Ghost Projection
Lucky Shot -- Rare Emote
Petra
Unfortunately, Bungie has continued to move Petra around. She's no longer located next to the Dreaming City's Landing Zone, having moved to a new spot in Rheasilvia. She'll as always offer a piece of Powerful gear for completing two of her weekly bounties, of which you have several choices.
Among them is a new mission, Dark Monastery, that continues the story that's developed since Forsaken's Raid was first beaten. You'll also notice some visual differences in the Dreaming City, with Taken Blight balls filling in the sky in some spots.
Clan Bounties
Three new weekly bounties from Hawthorne are now available. These run the gamut and unfortunately don't overlap at all--you'll be taking part in Escalation Protocol, the Blind Well, and Adventures. All three offer Legendary gear and clan XP, although the one involving Escalation Protocol nets you the most experience points.
Mutual Escalation -- complete five waves of Escalation Protocol with clanmates
Draw From the Well -- Tier II and Tier III completions with clanmates
Band of Adventurers -- complete three Adventures with clanmates
Vanguard Strikes
The weekly challenge for Strikes calls on you to complete a Strike using the same element of subclass as one of your team members--Void would be a wise choice, as you'll see below. You'll have to do this three times to earn a Powerful gear reward. The modifiers for this week are as follows:
Void Singe -- increases Void damage
Glass -- recovery is twice as fast but health and shields are halved
Heavyweight -- more Power ammo, Power weapons do more damage
Daily Heroic Story Missions
Another set of five story missions are available for you to choose from for daily Heroics. Completing any three of these during the week will net you a Powerful gear reward. The modifiers are the same as the Vanguard Strikes outlined above--Void Singe, Glass, and Heavyweight. Here are your choices and the recommended Power levels:
Combustion -- 280
Looped -- 280
The Gateway -- 310
Deep Storage -- 310
Off-World Recovery -- 360
Gambit
The weekly bounty you can pick up from The Drifter right now is Do It. This tasks you with earning a total of 12 points--you start out with zero and earn three for each win, but a loss will add one. The reward is 75 Infamy rank points along with a piece of Powerful gear.
Flashpoint
The Flashpoint isn't tied directly to the weekly reset, as it rotates more than once a week. As of this writing, you'll find it on Io; simply complete any activities, like Public Events, Lost Sectors, and Heroic Adventures to build the completion meter and earn a piece of Powerful gear.
While the future of the connected DC universe isn't clear, the studio isn't slowing its movie production. The standalone Joker movie is currently shooting in New York and now the Harley Quinn spin-off film Birds of Prey has been given an official release date.
As reported by Variety, Birds of Prey will hit theaters on February 7, 2020. The movie is set to focus on a team of supervillains, which the site states will include Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya. While Robbie is the only confirmed cast member, there have been recent reports that actresses under consideration include Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beauty and the Beast), Jurnee Smolett-Bell (Underground), Margaret Qualley (Death Note), and Cristin Milioti (Black Mirror).
Birds of Prey has been in development for several years. Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson was hired to write the movie back in September 2016, while indie filmmaker Cathy Yan was announced as director in April this year. It is expected to start production early next year.
More recently, Robbie spoke about her plans for the movie, and described it as a "R-rated girl gang film." She also explained why it was important that Harley's second movie wasn't a solo film. "Harley loves interacting with people, so don't ever make her do a standalone film," she said. "She's got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn't seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was always a big part of it."
Suicide Squad 2 is also in development, but it does not have a release date. In addition, a Harley Quinn and Joker movie is in the works, but again, it is unknown when we'll see that. In related news, it was reported earlier this month that Superman star Henry Cavill will no longer play the character in the DC Universe, although Cavill himself was somewhat ambiguous on the matter.
The latest trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has been released. The sequel to 2016's hugely successful Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them hits theaters in November and stars Eddie Redmayne as young magizoologist Newt Scamander, with Jude Law as the younger Albus Dumbledore and Johnny Depp as the villainous Gellert Grindelwald.
The trailer starts with a menacing voiceover from Depp, then sets up the basic plot, which involves Dumbledore telling Newt to travel to Paris on some unspecified--yet clearly dangerous--mission. There's plenty of footage of Grindelwald performing scary-looking magic, appearances from the first movie's Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) and Jacob Kowalsk (Dan Fogler), plus Claudia Kim as the shapeshifting Maledictus and Callum Turner as Newt's brother Theseus. Check it out above.
This latest trailer follows the one that was screened at San Diego Comic-Con in July, and the first teaser released back in March. The Crimes of Grindelwald is directed by Davis Yates, who helmed the first movie as well as the last four Harry Potter movies. It also stars Ezra Miller and Zoë Kravitz.
In a recent interview with Collider, Yates spoke about the movie's portrayal of the younger Dumbledore, and what Jude Law would bring to the role previously made famous by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon. "We're seeing Dumbledore as a young man, and Dumbledore as a young man's quite a rebel," he said. "He's quite complicated. He's far from perfect. He's an inspiring teacher, all the pupils love him, but as ever, being Dumbledore, he's a wonderful manipulator and he has this incredible ability to sort of maneuver people into situations that they may not want to be maneuvered into.
"Jude brings this amazing freshness and sexiness and sensuality and sort of wit and sort of charisma to the role. And it's actually really wonderful to see this character as a young man and with Jude playing him. He's doing a really wonderful job."
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald releases on November 16, 2018 release, and, according to Potter creator JK Rowling, will be the second of five movies.
As summer comes to a close, we must sadly say goodbye to several stellar anime, like Planet With and My Hero Academia Season 3. But we can find comfort in the knowledge that a bunch of new anime series and movies will begin airing on Netflix, Amazon, and other streaming services with the start of the fall season.
There are a few series and movies you'll definitely want to check out this October. Sentai Filmworks has secured the exclusive distribution rights to Bloom Into You, a well-written love story between two high school girls that also addresses the pressures of living with low self-worth and the struggles of understanding asexual love. Bloom Into You is airing exclusively on HiDive (in Japanese first with the English dub following in three weeks) on October 5. This fall, HiDive is also airing episodes of the English dub of Princess Principal, one of the best anime from 2017.
You should also add Crunchyroll's Goblin Slayer to your queue--especially if you're a fan of Dark Souls. Goblin Slayer is a dark fantasy about an inexperienced priestess, called Priestess, who's saved by a male adventurer named Goblin Slayer after her entire party is gruesomely butchered in front of her. Priestess decides to travel with Goblin Slayer to learn more about him, and on their journey she meets High Elf Archer, Dwarf Shaman, Lizard Priest, Cow Girl, Witch, and Spearman. The series begins airing on October 6.
Other series to look out for are That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and SSSS Gridman. The former launches on October 1, with the original Japanese version on Crunchyroll and the English dub on Funimation. The latter comes out on Funimation on October 6. Slime is an isekai--a story where a normal person is transported to another world--that's about pretty much exactly what the name implies, and Studio Trigger's Gridman is an anime remake of Gridman the Hyper Agent, a series about three kids creating a video game superhero. Golden Kamuy and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure also return with new seasons this fall.
The full list of anime series and movies that have been confirmed to premier this fall on Amazon, Crunchyroll, Funimation, HiDive, and Netflix are listed below. We'll update the list if additional titles are announced.

So Many Colors In The Future What A Wonderful World
A hidden quest in Destiny 2 has a special reward for those who go through multiple steps: the powerful Exotic hand cannon Malfeasance. You'll need to do a bit of footwork for it, but the stats make it well worth your time.
As detailed by user ADT7 on Reddit, the Seething Heart quest pops up organically in some Gambit matches. An Ascendant Primeval Servitor will sometimes appear, and defeating it opens up the Exotic quest. From there, the steps appear to be as follows:
Visit the Drifter in the Tower
Defeat 25 Taken bosses or mini-bosses in the Dreaming City
Invade the opponents in Gambit and defeat 25 opposing Guardians; and an ally invader defeats four opposing Guardians in a single invasion three times OR defeat four opposing Guardians as an invader
Once you've completed those steps you'll get Malfeasance. It comes equipped with some special perks, a high attack and fire rate, and a spooky look. Obviously since this relies on playing Gambit mode, you'll need to spend some time in the new mode and to have the Forsaken expansion installed.
Meanwhile, a new Crucible mode called Breakthrough just launched as well. For more details on the latest happenings in the world of Destiny 2, check out our guide to the weekly reset.
Telltale Games made the announcement on Friday, September 21, that it was enacting a "majority studio closure." This resulted in hundreds of jobs being lost at the San Rafael, California-based studio behind adventure games in the Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Batman universes.
It was a sad and shocking announcement that sent waves through the industry. How could this have happened and what happens next? We've put together a roundup and timeline to help you get up to speed on all the important developments so far. We'll keep updating this post in the days and weeks ahead as new details and information comes to light.
March 2017:
Telltale CEO and founder Kevin Bruner announces he is leaving the company. It is later reported that Bruner was forced out as he clashed with the company's board of directors. Telltale's other co-founder, Dan Connors, takes over as CEO.
September 2017:
Telltale hires former Zynga executive Pete Hawley to become the company's next CEO. Before Zynga, Hawley was a production lead at Fable studio Lionhead, working alongside Peter Molyneux on that series from 1993 to 2003. He then spent time with Sony (2003-2005), then EA (2005 to 2010).
November 2017:
One of Hawley's first major moves as CEO of Telltale is enacting a huge round of layoffs in which the company cut 25 percent of its workforce, which amounted to around 90 people at the time. The layoffs impacted "all divisions" at Telltale, and were part of Telltale's ambition to become "more competitive as a developer and publisher"
December 2017:
Telltale's CEO Pete Hawley talks to GamesBeat about the layoffs and the future of Telltale. He rejects the idea that Telltale is in trouble, stating he feels the company is in "really good shape." The layoffs were necessarily to help Telltale succeed in the future, Hawley said at the time.
March 2018:
A deeply sourced report from The Verge alleges that Telltale operates under a culture of heavy, expected crunch pushed by toxic management. Among the many shocking claims in the report is that employees worked as many as 18 hours per day for weeks on end.
September 20, 2018:
According to Variety, Telltale management informs employees that its negotiations with media giant AMC for more funding were "going well," with the company expected to complete the funding process in the coming weeks. There was also reportedly a deal being negotiated with South Korean mobile game giant Smilegate for more funding.
Smilegate and AMC both apparently leave negotiations with Telltale on Thursday, just hours before an eventful Friday. The reports offered no explanation for why AMC and Smilegate left negotiations on the same day. Variety previously reported that movie studio Lionsgate also decided to pull out of a financial deal with Telltale.
September 21, 2018:
According to reports, Telltale Games holds a meeting where it informs more than 200 developers that they were losing their jobs right then and there. According to Variety, employees were given paper paychecks for pay through the end of the day. They reportedly were instructed to leave the building within 30 minutes (employees were allowed back in for a period of three hours on the following Monday to collect personal belongings). The affected staffers received no severance pay, and their health care cover reportedly only extended to the end of the month. Management told employees they should consider applying for unemployment benefits.
Former Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner writes a blog post on his personal website talking about how he clashed with Telltale's board of directors about the future of the company. He shares no more information about what he and the board disagreed over. Telltale's board of directors includes Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer, former Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello, and others.
Telltale's official statement explains that the company is undergoing a "majority studio closure," with only around 25 people remaining on board to "fulfill the company's obligations to its board and partners." CEO Pete Hawley, who joined Telltale in September 2017, says it was an "incredibly difficult year" filled with "insurmountable challenges" for Telltale. He says he is proud of Telltale's efforts, but at the end of the day, its efforts "did not translate to sales."
Dan Connors, Telltale's co-founder, tells Variety that Telltale had "no choice but to stop production" after it failed to close another round of financing to keep the company afloat. "Sadly, everyone was so focused on doing what was required to keep the company going that when the last potential partner backed out, there were no other options," he said.
September 24, 2018:
One former Telltale employee, Vernie Roberts Jr., files a class-action lawsuit against Telltale for unpaid wages and benefits that he claims Telltale owes him and other affected staffers. Roberts Jr. claims Telltale violated California's WARN Act, which states that an employer must provide 60 days written notice about a mass layoff. There are some exceptions to the federal WARN Act. Attorney Richard Hoeg, who is not working on the case, tells GameDaily that Telltale may be able to deem the situation an "unforeseeable business circumstance" to remain in compliance with the WARN Act. However, California a version of the WARN Act unique to the state that does not include the "unforeseeable business circumstance" clause.
Later that day….
Telltale Games announces that "multiple potential partners" expressed some level of interest in helping Telltale to complete and release The Walking Dead: The Final Season. The company shared no information about who these potential partners might be. Additionally, Telltale says it can make no promises about ever releasing Episodes Three and Four. Even if they are released, Telltale warns fans that they might only come out "in some form."
Also on September 24, Netflix announced that it is evaluating its options to continue production on Telltale's Stranger Things game with a different partner. The streaming giant also confirmed that it plans to go ahead with releasing Minecraft: Story Mode on Netflix as planned.
September 25, 2018:
The Walking Dead: The Final Season's second episode launches as planned, but it's not the only major development this day. The game's $20 season pass, which provides access to episodes 1-4, was removed from sale on all major digital storefronts including PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A statement from Telltale says the company is pausing sales until further notice.
Some other notes and notable facts
Telltale was founded in 2004 by former LucasArts developers Kevin Bruner, Dan Connors, and Troy Molander.
Telltale's publicly disclosed funding partners included the venture capital firms IDG Ventures and Granite Ventures, along with the film company Lionsgate.
Of the seven named executives on Telltale's management website, four, including Hawley, are former Zynga higher-ups.
Telltale has not filed for bankruptcy.
There is no word yet as to what will happen with the previously announced second season of Telltale's Wolf Among Us.
Telltale also operates a publishing division that is behind the upcoming adventure game Stranded Deep from a two-person studio in Australia. The developer, Beam Team Games, does not know if it will be able to release the game on console in October as planned.
Telltale plans to provide a deeper update on its portfolio in the coming weeks.
With the amount of content Netflix puts out every month, it is near impossible to watch everything provided by the streaming subscription giant. In October, Netflix will be releasing a plethora of new content, and it can be a lot to go through, but don't worry, we will be highlighting some choice picks for you to check out.
Returning for a second season on October 5 is the adult animated comedy Big Mouth. Comedians Nick Kroll and John Mulaney star as two adolescent boys going through puberty. The raunchy series has the duo trying to understand life, girls, and everything else while dealing with hormone monsters and uncomfortable moments in early sexuality.
Speaking of returning Netflix originals, Castlevania comes back for a second helping on October 26. The series follows Trevor Belmont as he fights the evil forces of Dracula. Season 1 writer Warren Ellis returns, picking up on the huge cliffhanger from last year with Alucard. This season will add more episodes for a total of eight, doubling up from Season 1's four.
As far as movies and television go, October 1 is when Netflix will release most of its content. Out of everything coming out that day, you'll want to watch/rewatch the classic '80s adventure movie The NeverEnding Story or the first rated-R Marvel movie that matters--sorry, Dolph Lundgren's The Punisher--Blade. Additionally, Blade II will be available as well. Also, Season 4 of Gotham is coming to Netflix as well, and you can see just how crazy this series has become for yourself.
Sadly, there are a few great items leaving the service as well. The fantastic comedy series Freaks and Geeks is on its way out on October 1, along with Sin City and The Lost Boys. Even though Halloween is right around the corner, The Babadook is headed out on October 14 and V/H/S 2 leaves on October 24.
Check out the complete list of everything coming and going from Netflix below, and if you're looking for more news from streaming services, we have complete October arrivals lists from Hulu and Amazon Prime Video as well.

Sony has announced that cross-play between PlayStation 4 and other platforms is coming to Fortnite. In a statement posted on the PlayStation Blog, Sony Interactive Entertainment said it has "identified a path towards supporting cross-platform features for select third-party content." The first of these third-party titles is Fortnite and, starting today, an open beta for Fortnite will allow for "gameplay, progression, and commerce" across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Mac, Android, iOS.
"We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community's continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution," said John Kodera, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment. "We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective."
As previously mentioned, in addition to enabling players across the various platforms Fortnite is available on to play together, progress will be preserved over the different platforms and, more importantly, any purchases and unlocks will also be shared, which is good news for dedicated Fortnite players.
"For 24 years, we have strived to deliver the best gaming experience to our fans by providing a uniquely PlayStation perspective," Sony's statement continues. "Today, the communities around some games have evolved to the point where cross-platform experiences add significant value to players. In recognition of this, we have completed a thorough analysis of the business mechanics required to ensure that the PlayStation experience for our users remains intact today, and in the future, as we look to open up the platform."
It also notes that this "represents a major policy change" and Sony has said it is "now in the planning process across the organization to support this change." Further details will be provided on specifics regarding the beta timeframe, and what this means for other titles in the future. In the meantime, cross-play in Fortnite on PS4 is live.
The subject of cross-play on PlayStation 4 has been a sore issue for the last few months, especially as the popularity of Fortnite has skyrocketed and other platforms have enabled the functionality. In the past, Sony remained bullish on maintaining a closed online environment. Sony's CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida, for example said the PlayStation 4 was simply the best place to play, suggesting that there was no need for PS4 owners to connect with players on other platforms.
This stance drew criticism from other high-profile people in the video game industry, most notably from Xbox boss Phil Spencer and corporate vice president of Xbox, Mike Ybarra, who said Sony "still isn't listening to gamers" about the cross-play situation.
Tim Sweeney, the head of Fortnite developer Epic Games, later said that he believes it is in the industry's best interest to allow gamers on competing platforms to play together, and added that he believes cross-play is "inevitable." With Sony now on board, Sweeney has been proven right.
The cross-play beta arrives on PS4 in time for the start of Fortnite Season 6, which begins on September 27. In the lead up, Epic has released out a Fortnite Season 6 teaser for Fortnite which features a purple color scheme, much like the strange cube that appeared in the game recently. The start of Season 6 means there's very little time left to wrap up Season 5 challenges. Check out our Season 5 challenges roundup for help chasing down any that you may have left over.
Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix is bringing back one of its most revered villains with some style. A new teaser trailer shows the return of Wilson Fisk, aka The Kingpin, out of his orange jumpsuit and into a more familiar outfit. Spoilers for The Defenders follow.
The short "Fisk is Back" teaser (above) shows the character donning his white suit, the classic Kingpin look. This is juxtaposed against a shot of a bloodied Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, appearing to burn remnants of his normal life like his maroon-tinted glasses, before putting on the black hood.
Fisk was often cited as a highlight of the first season of Daredevil, played with a quiet demeanor mixed with violent outbursts by Vincent D'Onofrio. He was put in jail at the end of the first season, and the second focused heavily on Elektra. In The Defenders, Elektra became an antagonist, and Daredevil appeared to go to his grave attempting to save her. A short scene at the end, though, revealed he had barely survived.
This follows another teaser that showed Murdock in a confessional, wearing his black mask and telling the priest, "I'd rather die as the devil then live as Matt Murdock." This new video appears to reinforce that he's putting his regular life behind him to pursue his superheroics full-time. He may find that with the return of Fisk, the city needs Murdock more than it needs Daredevil.
Update 2: Another new Season 6 teaser has arrived for Fortnite on Wednesday. Alongside news that console cross-play will finally be enabled for PS4 beginning with Fortnite, Epic shared another teaser image for what we assume is another skin that will be available as part of the new season. This one consists of the same cube and lightning imagery, but with a wolf character taking center stage.
Season 6 officially starts tomorrow, September 27, so we'll know much more soon. It's safe to assume we'll be getting map changes, a new Battle Pass, and new skins, but the specifics regarding any of this remain a secret for now.
Update: As expected, Epic has rolled out a second Season 6 teaser for Fortnite on Tuesday. This one features the same sort of style, with a purple color scheme, the cube in the background, and lightning in the foreground.
What's different is the character featured this time around--rather than Monday's llama, this time it's a woman wearing a hat with bull on the front, spiked shoulder pads, and a mask over her mouth. It's decidedly less party-themed than the llama image, but once again, it could be that this is a preview of a skin that will be available next season. Unfortunately, it doesn't give us much sense for what kind of theme to expect from Season 6, and barring any leaks, that might remain the case until Thursday's launch.
Original story: Fortnite Season 6 is just around the corner. Epic has confirmed that the new season will release on Thursday, September 27 to follow shortly after the end of Season 5 on Tuesday, September 25. Unlike some other seasons, though, Epic hasn't been quite as clear about its hints of what's to come. Here's what we know so far, including a look at the first teaser for Season 6.
First, a primer. In August, lightning bolts struck the desert and left a glowing purple cube. It had a few strange properties like recharging shields and bouncing players off if they got too close. The cube spent a little while dormant before starting to move slowly across the map, rotating at regular intervals. Fans quickly decoded runes it was leaving behind to predict it was heading for Loot Lake, but what would happen when it reached that point was still mysterious. That is until last week, when it hit the lake and began to melt, turning the whole pool into a bouncy surface.
That all leads to the latest, when Fortnite dropped its first real Season 6 hint on Twitter. The teaser image shows what appears to be a robotic llama within an image of the cube, with a caption that reads "All great parties need a DJ." Presumably that's a skin players will be able to obtain next season. That, or Fortnite is ditching this whole "battle royale" fad to bring back the rhythm genre. We'll continue to update as more teases appear to drop details.
This only leaves a few precious hours left to finish your Season 5 challenges before the season ends, so be sure to check out our Season 5 challenges roundup to chase down any that you may have missed.
Forza Horizon 4 introduces a new mechanic, letting you experience the same highways and back alleys with vastly different road conditions based on the season. Seasons will cycle weekly, starting with summer when the game launches, and offer special time-sensitive events and loot. Microsoft has now detailed the first four weeks of content, which will run through the full seasonal cycle.
As detailed on Twitter, each season will host a selection of new seasonal events--five every season except winter, which will have three. All of them also have seven new daily events and one new weekly event in Forzathon, two new cars for car pass owners, and new stock in the Forzathon Shop. A new exclusive car will be available in each season too: the Ferrari 812 in summer, 911 GT3 RS '19 in autumn, Chevrolet ZR2 in winter, and Honda Civic '18 in spring.
As a first-party studio game from Microsoft, Forza Horizon 4 will be included with Xbox Game Pass on the day of release. It costs $10 per month, so if you'd like to try Forza it's a cost-effective way to sample the full game along with the rest of the Game Pass library. For fans of 007, Microsoft has already announced a James Bond car pack with some of the character's most iconic rides.
The racing simulation has received accolades from critics, including in our own GameSpot Forza Horizon 4 review. "The charm of the Horizon series is as palpable as ever, a winning, all-inclusive recipe that celebrates the joy of driving above all else," wrote reviewer Edmond Tran.
September has officially arrived, and with it comes a new slate of games for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and even 3DS. While most of this year's big holiday releases are reserved for October and November, this month is still filled with some exciting new games across each platform. Along with marquee titles like Dragon Quest XI and Spider-Man, this month sees the official Xbox One release of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, while sports fans have the latest installments in NBA Live and FIFA to look forward to.
September is also home to a couple of major DLC releases. First is Destiny 2's Taken King-sized expansion, Forsaken, which introduces Gambit mode, new enemies, story missions, and a wealth of other content to the shooter. Switch's massive JRPG Xenoblade Chronicles 2 also receives its own sizable story expansion, Torna: The Golden Country, this month, which chronicles the downfall of the eponymous country 500 years before the events of the main game.
That's only scratching the surface of all the games September has to offer. You can see a list of the biggest releases for each platform this month below. For a broader look at all of the major titles coming throughout the rest of the year, be sure to check out our complete list of game release dates in 2018.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age (PS4, PC) -- September 4
September kicks off with the release of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, the latest chapter in Square Enix's storied RPG franchise. This installment brings the series back to its roots following its detour into MMO territory with the Japan-exclusive Dragon Quest X, boasting a traditional turn-based battle system, a charming, ragtag cast of characters, and an endearing story, accentuated by new features like monster riding the Zone and Link systems.
Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac's highly anticipated Spider-Man game arrives exclusively on PS4 on September 7. This interpretation of the comic book hero takes place in an original, standalone universe separate from the comic series and puts players in the shoes of a more experienced, confident Spider-Man as he defends New York from a cabal of some of his most iconic villains, including Electro, Rhino, Scorpion, and Silver Sable.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PS4, Xbox One, PC) -- September 14
The third--and darkest--chapter in Lara Croft's rebooted origin story, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, releases on September 14. Picking up several months after Rise of the Tomb Raider, this installment sees Croft venturing through the jungles of Central and South America to stop a Mayan apocalypse she inadvertently triggered. During her journey, she'll visit Paititi, the largest hub area in a Tomb Raider game to date, and be able to employ more stealthy techniques to hunt the villainous Trinity.
Life Is Strange 2 - Episode 1 (PS4, Xbox One, PC) -- September 27
The first installment in Dontnod's next episodic adventure, Life Is Strange 2, arrives on September 27. Unlike the previous Life Is Strange and its prequel series, Before the Storm, Life Is Strange 2 follows brothers Sean and Daniel Diaz as they flee to Mexico following a life-changing encounter with the police. Dontnod promises the game will offer even more branching choices, and some of the decisions players make in the free spin-off, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, will also carry over.
After months of resisting cross-play, Sony has finally given Fortnite players on PS4 the ability to play with those on other consoles. The platform's cross-play open beta is now live, enabling "gameplay, progression, and commerce" in Epic's massively popular battle royale game across PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
This move marks a dramatic reversal in Sony's stance on cross-play. The company has come under fire over the past few months for not allowing Fortnite players to play with and share their progress across platforms, despite that functionality being available in other versions of the game. Sony's response to the issue was that PS4 was simply the best place to play, suggesting that there was no need to allow cross-play with other platforms, but fans and other video game industry leaders were unsatisfied by the company's answer.
Sony announced its change of heart in a post on the PlayStation Blog. "Following a comprehensive evaluation process, SIE has identified a path toward supporting cross-platform features for select third party content," Sony Interactive Entertainment president John Kodera wrote. "We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community's continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution."
It's currently unclear just how long this "extended open beta" will last, but its timing is quite fortuitous. Season 6 of Fortnite is scheduled to begin on Thursday, September 27, so players will be able to play with and continue their progress on other platforms. This is especially handy, as each season, Epic introduces a new Battle Pass for purchase, which can be leveled up to unlock special cosmetic items and other rewards.
As for what we can expect from Season 6, Epic hasn't shared many concrete details about the new season, but the company has dropped a series of images teasing what are presumably new skins in the lead up to it. All of the images also seem to feature the infamous purple cube in the background, which recently sank in Loot Lake and turned it purple and bouncy. What this portends for Season 6 remains to be seen, but players won't have to wait much longer to find out.
Next to your game console, your television is the most critical part of any gaming setup. No matter how much power your console brings or how revolutionary your newest game is, you'll experience it through your TV. If you're a gamer who's thinking of upgrading your current television, you'll probably want to know what TV is the right one for you. Below, we have you covered across a variety of price points. Whether you play games on an Xbox One, PS4, or Nintendo Switch, you'll want to take a look at the best gaming TVs of 2018.
Considerations
No matter what TV you decide to purchase, you'll want to take a few key features into consideration.
4K: Assuming you plan to keep your television around for the better part of the next decade, you'll want to future-proof your set as much as you can. And with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X on the market--and next-gen consoles not too far out--4K is clearly the default resolution going forward. They cost a bit more than less pixel-dense displays, but prices have come down a lot in recent years.
HDR: Most newer TVs support HDR, or high dynamic range. This basically means that the television can display an exceptionally high contrast ratio--meaning brighter brights--and a wider range of colors. Not all HDR televisions are created equal, though, so you have to be careful when buying. However, when it's done right, it makes the image practically burst off the screen.
Input lag: When it comes to gaming, one of the most important specs a TV can have is low input lag. Input lag is the amount of time it takes the TV to display new information from a source. When playing a game, that's the time between you pressing a button on the controller and the result occurring onscreen. Unfortunately, input lag isn't something TV manufacturers put on their spec sheets. To get that information, you need to visit a site like RTings that performs in-depth tests. We've taken input lag into consideration in the selections below.
Best Gaming TV
For those with deep enough pockets to drop a couple grand on a television, you can't go wrong with an LG OLED C7. For starters, our sister site CNET says it's the best overall TV they've ever tested. Its picture looks better than even more expensive units, with exceptional brightness and a spectacular color range. It also has low input lag for precision gaming.
Beyond its exceptional functionality, it features a thoughtfully minimalist design. With only a thin black border lining the screen and no logo visible on its front, everything but the display melts away when you turn it on.
TVs that cost between $700 and $1,000 fall in the happy medium between budget sets and high-end technological beasts. They don't reach the heights of picture quality you'll find in models that cost twice as much or more, but you can definitely see the improvement when compared with cheaper TVs.
Our pick for this category is the TCL 6 series, which presents terrific image quality, with bright brights, deep blacks, and excellent colors. According to CNET, it has the best picture in its class and can nearly hold its own against TVs in the $2,000 range.
For an even cheaper option, try the TCL 4 series. These are still 4K HDR televisions, but they come in wider range of sizes, including smaller models with scaled-down pricing that starts at under $300. As expected, the image quality is lower than you'll find in the pricier TVs above, but the input lag is nice and low, and it beats out other televisions in this price range. Read CNET's TLC 4 review for more information.
Microsoft is hosting a big Xbox event later this fall. During the latest episode of Inside Xbox, the company announced a new fan event dubbed X018--a "global celebration of all things Xbox" scheduled to take place in Mexico City on November 10-11.
Microsoft hasn't announced many details about what fans can expect from X018 yet, but the publisher says it will feature the "largest live Inside Xbox episode ever." The event will be broadcast online and will provide news, first looks, and surprises, although the publisher didn't delve into any specifics as to what those could be.
Fans who can't attend X018 in-person will be able to follow along with the event live via the company's Mixer streaming service. The aforementioned episode of Inside Xbox is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 10, running from 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET to 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET. You can read more about X018 on Microsoft's official website.
This marks the first big Xbox event Microsoft has hosted since the company's E3 2018 press conference. This year, the publisher took a different approach than it traditionally has, moving almost the entirety of its showing out of the Los Angeles Convention Center--where E3 is traditionally hosted--to the nearby Microsoft Theater in LA Live. Microsoft also held Xbox FanFest events throughout E3 that gave fans the chance to go hands-on with game demos and more. The use of the X018 name hearkens to a series of events the company hasn't held in years.
As it has done nearly every Tuesday for the past several weeks, Microsoft has rolled out another new batch of backwards compatible games for Xbox One. Two more Xbox 360 titles are now playable on the company's current-gen console, and this week both of them come from Dying Light developer Techland's first-person western series, Call of Juarez--perfect if you need something to tide you over until Red Dead Redemption 2 launches next month.
The first game is 2009's Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. Despite being the second entry in the series, it serves as a prequel to the original Call of Juarez. When it first released, GameSpot awarded the Xbox 360 version an 8/10 in our Bound in Blood review and said, "Though the game is marred by its short length and weak enemy AI, those looking for a fun and different shooter experience shouldn't have any hesitation about biting the bullet and taking a ride with the McCalls."
The second new backwards compatible game is Call of Juarez: The Cartel. Unlike other installments in the series, this title features cooperative elements and is set in the modern day, casting players in the role of one of three agents tasked with busting a drug network. It didn't fare quite as well as its predecessor; GameSpot gave it a 6/10 in our Cartel review, saying, "The Cartel is worth playing if you have a buddy or two along for the ride. Otherwise, the potential is hard to see hiding behind all the glitches and obscenities."
If you still own a physical copy of either title, you can pop the disc into your Xbox One, which will initiate a download and allow you to begin playing. Alternatively, if you've owned either title digitally, it will appear automatically in the Ready to Download section of Xbox One's My Games and Apps menu. If you're interested in picking either up for the first time, you also have the option to purchase the games digitally from the Microsoft Store.
Since Microsoft rolled out Xbox One's backwards compatibility feature, more than 400 Xbox 360 titles have been made playable on the current-gen console, as have more than 30 original Xbox games. You can see everything in our full list of backwards compatible games. If you need recommendations on which ones are worth revisiting, you can also check out our gallery of the best Xbox One backwards compatible games.
Agent 47's next adventure, Hitman 2, arrives in November, and it takes the deadly assassin to a number of new locales on top of all of the levels from the previous game. One of the new areas players will travel to is Santa Fortuna, a village nestled in the jungles of Columbia, and now publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has provided a closer look at the locale in a new trailer.
As the video above showcases, Santa Fortuna is a small, secluded settlement located in the Colombian rainforest. By all appearances, the village is peaceful, but it harbors a dark secret: it also happens to be the home of the Delgado Cartel. As fate would have it, all three of its leaders are currently in the area, which is where Agent 47 comes in.
Players will need to make use of their surroundings in clever ways in order to assassinate members of the cartel. The level encompasses the cartel's mansion and surrounding grounds, including coca fields and a network of caves and ruins. It's also the perfect place to demonstrate some of the new tricks Agent 47 has added to his repertoire in Hitman 2, such as the ability to use foliage to evade detection and hide bodies.
Santa Fortuna is one of six new areas featured in Hitman 2. As previously mentioned, the game will also bring back all six locations from 2016's Hitman--Paris, Sapienza, Marrakesh, Bangkok, Colorado, and Hokkaido--as part of the Hitman Legacy Pack DLC. Each returning map will be updated to incorporate the new gameplay elements from Hitman 2.
Hitman 2 releases for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 13. The game will be released in standard, Gold, and Collector's editions; the latter two include various digital bonuses and grant players access to the game four days early. Those who pre-order any edition of Hitman 2 ahead of its release will also get immediate access to the standalone Sniper Assassin mode.
Since Dragon Ball FighterZ released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC earlier this year, Bandai Namco has been rolling out a regular stream of DLC characters for the popular Dragon Ball fighting game. The publisher has now unveiled the eighth and final fighter included in the game's season pass: Android 17.
This isn't Android 17's first appearance in Dragon Ball FighterZ; his former partner Android 18 could notably call him in during a battle to assist her with certain attacks, but this marks the first time 17 will appear in a playable form. As Bandai Namco explains: "During his initial introduction into the Dragon Ball universe, Android 17 was known to be a reckless anarchist, a trouble maker, and a real heel. After experiencing death and being brought back to life by Shenron, his brush with great-beyond caused Android 17 to take on a life of peace and obscurity."
The former villain is scheduled to arrive later this week and sports his outfit from Dragon Ball Super. It appears his moves are largely derived from Dragon Ball Super as well. According to Bandai Namco, he can can cloak himself in a protective barrier and wall jump to quickly get behind his opponents. You can take a look at Android 17's reveal trailer above.
Android 17 will join the Dragon Ball FighterZ roster alongside the game's seventh DLC character, Cooler, before the end of September. As previously mentioned, both fighters are included as part of the FighterZ Pass, which costs $35 and grants owners access to all eight of the game's DLC characters. Players will also have the option to purchase either fighter individually for $5 apiece.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is scheduled to release for Nintendo Switch on September 28. The Switch version will come with a handful of new local mulitplayer options: an offline six-player Party Match mode and 2v2 and 1v1 matches. Those who pre-order the Switch version will also get a digital copy of the rare Super Famicom Dragon Ball Z game, Super Butoden.
