A direct sequel to 2014's Wolfenstein: The New Order was officially revealed as the finale to Bethesda's press conference. As last year's teaser indicated, it's titled Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and franchise-long protagonist BJ Blazkowicz makes a return. He'll be operating in Nazi-occupied America with a new cast of characters.
By Alex Newhouse on Jun 12, 2017 11:11 am Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus Is Real
After hints and rumors, Wolfenstein 2 was finally revealed at Bethesda's E3 2017 press conference. Bethesda had several things to show off, but the Wolfenstein announcement was the highlight. We saw quite a bit of gameplay alongside cinematics. As a result, we actually learned quite a bit about the game from this first video. We broke down the trailer to take a closer look at what you might've missed!
The video started with a short, tone-setting clip in the style of old, 1950s-era sitcoms. A giant Panzerhund named Liesel makes an appearance.
Continuing the tone setting, the video also featured a game show called "German... or Else!" There's not much better for a game set in Nazi-occuped America.
BJ Blazkowicz's love interest from Wolfenstein: The New Order, Anya, is pregnant with twins. That doesn't stop her from stabbing someone in the video.
The Nazi officer, Frau Engel, returns to The New Colossus. She's just as terrifying as in the first game.
The New Colossus takes place in Nazi-occupied America, and it's certainly seen better days. Buildings are burning and it generally looks in a state of disrepair.
There's nothing more American than an alligator farm. Sadly, this one's been replaced with a massive Nazi compound.
Racist, extremist factions find common ground in the video, as the KKK and Nazis are seen talking amicably together.
There's little that's more unsettling than a Nazi official playing friendly, and this one does it very well. A sketch of Blazkowicz hangs ominously in the background as the Nazi asks for his ID papers.
Crazy robotic machines are, of course, making a return, and this flying machine is particularly ferocious.
BJ Blazkowicz has a power suit, and it includes an extremely boxy helmet that doesn't appear to have eye holes.
In spite of its apparent lack of eye holes, it is bullet-proof, protecting Blazkowicz from a point-blank shot to the head.
In the video, we are introduced to a resistance leader, who unfortunately does not have great control over his prosthetic arm.
Another resistance leader challenges Blaskowicz to a drinking competition, which he readily accepts. They proceed to aggressively imbibe whiskey while bullets fly in the background and one stoic clarinet player continues to play.
It's a Panzerhund rodeo in The New Colossus as Blaskowicz attempts to tame one.
He's successful and is later shown careening through the streets on the back of one of the robotic beasts.
Dual-wielding weapons is back, and now Blaskowicz can handle two different types of weapons at the same time.
The last scene is quite the finale: faced with fighting Nazis, this man drops acid and proceeds to hallucinate colorful creatures. If this plays into the story or gameplay in any way, The New Colossus is going to be very interesting. Keep an eye on GameSpot for more news and impressions about The New Colossus coming out of E3 2017.

By Alex Newhouse on Jun 12, 2017 05:46 am Anthem Is BioWare's New IP
At Microsoft's press briefing today, we saw the first gameplay from BioWare's new game, Anthem. It's a shared-world action game with RPG elements, and players take control of one of several different types of mechs. There's a lot that was revealed in the demo, so we've broken it down to look closer at what you can expect from Anthem. Robo-Creatures on a Massive Scale
Within the first few seconds of the demo, we see a massive, robotic creature walking overhead. It's unclear whether these are autonomous robots or if they're actually vehicles, but their shape seems somewhat animalistic, reminiscent of the giant Tallnecks from Horizon: Zero Dawn. Later, one of these robots is destroyed. Quest Givers and Mech Suits
Although it's unclear at first what that hulking figure is in the background, later we learn that this is one of the mech suits in the game. This mech seems content to just stand there, apparently chatting with another NPC. In the foreground, that character looking at the camera is a man who will give the player a quest. There's some backstory to the relationship between the two; the man seems to have been tasked with a job that he cut corners with, while the player character is a Freelancer who must go rescue people who have lost contact. The Mech Suits
Next, we catch a glimpse of three of the exosuits in the game. BioWare talked specifically about two of them, the Ranger and the Colossus. These suits serve to create combat classes, like in a class-based shooter. The Ranger is a balanced, solid mech, while the Colossus is a tank. These mech suits seem to have mobility skills in common, such as jetpacks and power jumps. In this part of the video, the first signs of the social aspect of the game appear. Over the mech in front, an indicator shows the player's "Ally of the Week." The specifics of this designation are unclear, although it hints at some sort of leaderboard or stat-tracking system. What a Beautiful World
In classic video game form, our view of Anthem's world comes from a high-up vista looking out over a gorgeous skybox and interesting terrain. A waypoint is visible, although we can only guess what that icon means. In any case, this world looks pretty alien, with its massive rifts and jagged faults. Experience Levels and Special Stats
The ID icon for the player's companion, Paul, shows a couple of interesting things: first, Anthem will have a leveling system. Second, there will be specialized stats. Paul has +5% of something, although it's unknown what that something is. Jetpacks and Flying Around
Anthem gives players the power of flight. The mech suits, with their built-in jets, allow for at least a certain amount of flying around, although it could just be a controlled fall. In any case, soaring through the forest in a mech looks pretty cool. That High-Level Enemy Looks Menacing
The player in the demo chose to ignore this creature, which looks like a pretty intimidating monster that makes short work of those smaller creatures. It's hard to tell what it would take to kill one of these, but hopefully it'll have a big reward if you do manage to take it down. In addition, this is the first time we see the HUD. This particular mech, the Ranger, has three skills visible: a cluster missile, which is used later, and two others. The icon for one looks like a directed energy skill, while the other might be a powerful slam move. Not surprisingly, these skills require some sort of stamina or energy to perform.
Exploration Gives You Experience
Shooting creatures isn't the only way to earn experience points. As seen here, exploring new places will net you a few points to help you level up. Hopefully there'll be several ways to level up outside of combat. Also, it's pretty cool that the exosuit's jets work underwater. The Giant, Towering Creature Goes Down
One of those long-neck creatures dies here, and it becomes a massive metallic ruin in the middle of this landscape. It'll be interesting to see if these creatures wander ambiently through the world, or if these scenes are scripted. Hey, It's Sort Of Like Destiny!
Finding a high-powered, rare weapon is one of the most definitive parts of shared-world shooters like Destiny and The Division, and Anthem appears to be following in their footsteps in this regard. In addition, this weapon is found in a seemingly random pickup from an enemy, almost like Destiny's engram system. Its stats are what you'd expect: damage, accuracy, range, rate of fire, and ammo capacity. Also, it's a "Volt Rifle"--maybe this indicates that there'll be different energy types for weapons? Assembling a Squad
Continuing the Destiny and Division comparisons, Anthem will allow players to join together into Squads to take on harder missions. These additional people join up seamlessly, and they all have different stat advantages. Flying Into the Storm
At the very end of the video, one player, controlling an exosuit with the ability to truly fly, soars into the heart of a violent storm. The storm appears to arise organically, so Anthem's world may feature ambient events like this. What is hidden in the storm is a mystery right now. For more news about Anthem, keep an eye on GameSpot's E3 2017 hub all of this week.

By Jimmy Thang on Jun 12, 2017 04:41 am The console's official name
Microsoft's upcoming console was previously codenamed Project Scorpio, and despite rumors that it might be called Xbox Scorpio or Xbox S, we learned from the company's E3 2017 press conference that the upcoming system has been officially named Xbox One X. What's slightly interesting about the name is that its acronym spells out XBOX. While we already knew that it would feature an 8-core AMD SOC outfitted with an integrated GPU capable of delivering six teraflops of performance when we covered its tech specs, we also learned a bunch of new details about the system, which include its price, release date, design, and more. Xbox One X price
As suggested from the rumored pricing leaks this morning, Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox One X will retail for $499. This puts it on par with the Xbox One's original retail price when it released in 2013. This also makes it cost roughly $100 more than the PS4 Pro's suggested retail price. It is worth mentioning that the Xbox One X will be noticeably more powerful than Sony's high-end console. While $499 may be prohibitively expensive for some, it is inline with some predictions. Microsoft also offers the more affordable Xbox One S console geared for 1080p gaming. The cheaper system recently got a $50 price cut and retails for $250. Xbox One X release date
The console is set to release worldwide on November 7, 2017. This puts it a year behind Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro, which released on November 10, 2016 for $399. While the PS4 Pro plays certain games at 4K, many of them are up-scaled using a rendering technique called checkerboard rendering. Microsoft asserts that the Xbox One X will be the "world's most powerful console" and can run games natively at true 4K. The look and the size
The Xbox One X measures 30x24x6 centimeters, which Microsoft asserts makes it the smallest Xbox console to date. For reference, the original Xbox measures 34.3x26.3x8 centimeters. While it may be the smallest Xbox console to date, it's noticeably heavier than the original Xbox One at 8.4 pounds. For reference, the original Xbox One weighs 7.8 pounds. In terms of aesthetics, it looks a lot like a black Xbox One S. The fact that it's dramatically more powerful than the S while being a roughly the same size is a bit of a technical marvel, especially when you consider that the Xbox One S is roughly 40 percent smaller than the original Xbox One. Improvements to existing Xbox One games at 1080p
In addition to allowing you to play games at 4K, Microsoft asserted at its press conference that the Xbox One X would bolster existing Xbox One games in a number of ways that include adding anisotropic filtering, supporting AMD FreeSync, faster load times, and enabling supersampling; the latter of which renders games above 1080p and then downsizes them to an HDTV. This makes them look sharper than traditional 1080p. Xbox One X games
Microsoft revealed a bunch of new games that would support the Xbox One X. These games include Shadow of War, Forza Motorsport 7, Assassin's Creed: Origins, and dozens more. Click here for a more comprehensive list of Xbox One X-supported games.
