A sequel to Monumental Valley, the wonderful mobile game featured on House of Cards, has been announced--and you don't have to wait even a minute to play it.
The sequel is available right now on iTunes--get it here for $5. It was confirmed during Apple's developer conference, WWDC, today in California.
The Monument Valley website explains that the sequel has a "completely new story," and you don't need to have played the first game to enjoy the sequel.
"Enjoy beautiful levels filled with illusory, meditative puzzles, using brand new interactions to explore the changing dynamics between characters," reads a line from the game's description. "Artwork inspired by an eclectic mixture of architectural styles, artistic movements and personal influences, each translated into stunning geometric structures."
It goes on: "Immerse yourself in uniquely melodic interactive soundscapes, tailored perfectly to every step of Ro and her child's journey."
The Entertainment Software Association announced today that it has filed a lawsuit that takes issue with the city of Chicago's new tax rules that impact streaming services and games.
In a news release, the ESA said the new tax rules are "illegal and harmful." This all relates to the city's Amusement Tax program, which has been expanded to cover "participating in games online" at the price of 9 percent on streaming and subscription services. This pertains to subscriptions to online games and game libraries, the ESA said.
According to the ESA, Chicago is violating the Internet Tax Freedom act "by discriminating against online entertainment."
"The city's Amusement Tax hurts ordinary Chicagoans by forcing gamers to pay for their elected officials' budget mistakes, literally," the ESA said.
"This discriminatory tax makes Chicagoans' lives more expensive, just because they live in the 21st century and choose to play video games online," ESA CEO Michael D. Gallagher said in a statement. "As one of the most innovative and rapidly growing industries in Illinois, we are proud to take this fight to court and stand up for consumers. Chicago's tax bureaucrats are out of line in extending their reach beyond legal limits imposed by federal law. We intend to remedy that situation."
Americans for Tax Reform president Grover Norquist added: "This legal challenge will help Chicagoans fight back."
"This collection spans the evolution--and retro revolution--of the classic side-scrolling series," said Capcom. The first Mega Man Legacy Collection, released in 2015, focused on the series' NES 8-bit roots, bringing Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 to modern consoles. That collection did not remaster or remake any of the games.
The new collection makes the jump to 16 and 32 bits, and will also include bonus content and extra challenges not found in the original games. It promises to help new players "get into the game" easier with the Extra Armor feature, which reduces damage taken by half, and will also create convenient checkpoint saves so it's easier to pick up your adventure where you left off.
Capcom's new collection will also include a new Challenge Mode, which remixes stages and lets you compete against others on online leaderboards. If you're a really big fan, the Museum feature returns featuring an archive of production art, sketches, development material, and a full music player with favorite tracks from the game.
Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 comes out August 8 and will cost US $20 both digitally and at retail locations. Capcom is promising to show off the game at E3, and we'll report back on our full E3 coverage right here.
Microsoft's new console, Project Scorpio, is coming out this year and it aims to be one of the biggest storylines at E3 next week. The console that Microsoft will sell is different from the system's software development kit, which is given to developers to use to make their games.
Today, Microsoft released a video in which Xbox engineer Kevin Gammill talks about the devkit, which is more powerful and doesn't have exactly the same form factor as the retail kit (which hasn't even been shown off yet). It has 24 GB of GDDR5 RAM, which is 12 gigs more than the retail unit. It also has an additional 1 TB hard drive. Also of note, the system has a front-panel display that can display frame rate and can even have light games like Snake programmed on it.
In other Scorpio news, Microsoft announced recently that the console will launch in China this year. It's notable since Xbox One wasn't released in China until after it came out in the US and other major regions.
More details on Scorpio will presumably be discussed at E3 next month, during Microsoft's briefing on the afternoon of June 11. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.
All Xbox One games work on Scorpio, though the Scorpio editions can look and perform better, in some cases, if developers want to do that. It is a similar situation with PS4 and PS4 Pro.
FIFA Ultimate Team Legends have been renamed for FIFA 18, and they're no longer exclusive to Xbox. They're now called Icons, and in FIFA 18 you can get them on PlayStation 4 and PC as well as on Xbox One.
Icons are ultra-rare Ultimate Team cards based on legendary footballers from years gone by. Players to have received Legends cards in the past include Pele, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Paolo Maldini, Alan Shearer, and Franz Beckenbauer.
This year, Brazilian striker Ronaldo joins the roster as it makes the jump to PS4 and PC after four years of Xbox exclusivity. A full Ultimate Team reveal is expected later this year, though it is currently unclear whether the Nintendo Switch version will include Icons--or indeed FUT itself.
FIFA 18 launches on September 29, although customers who preorder the Ronaldo Edition or Icon Edition get three days' early access. EA/Origin Access members, meanwhile, can play a 10-hour trial on Xbox One/PC starting September 21.
For the first time, Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo will be on the game's cover, and he stars in the reveal trailer, which you can watch above.
The DC superhero adventure Wonder Womanis currently breaking box office records, and there is already talk of a sequel. It has been confirmed that both director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot are signed on for another movie, and now Jenkins has spoken about what fans can expect.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jenkins revealed that the Amazonian princess will be heading stateside for Wonder Woman 2. "The story will take place in the US, which I think is right," she said. "She's Wonder Woman. She's got to come to America. It's time."
Jenkins went on to explain that she was returning to make a sequel because of the opportunities it presented, both in terms of the story and in working with the cast again.
"I'm not a big obligation person when it comes to art. You want to do a movie like this because you believe in it," she said. "Then I had this revelation in the middle of the night: this is your dream cast, you've created a character that you love and you can say anything you want in the world right now."
"I realized that Wonder Woman 2 is its own great movie. I made Wonder Woman. Now I want to make Wonder Woman 2. It's a beautiful story to tell, [and it's] an important time to tell it with people that I love."
Wonder Woman scored the highest US opening for a female director in history this weekend, with a three-day take of $100.5 million. Internationally, the movie brought in $122.5 million, boosting its global haul to $223 million after just one weekend.
Publisher EA has revealed when you'll be able to get your hands on FIFA 18. The footballing giant will be available from September 29 on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
Customers who preorder the Ronaldo Edition or Icon Edition three days' early access, while EA Access and Origin Access members can enjoy a 10-hour trial on Xbox One/PC starting September 21.
For the first time, Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo will be on the game's cover, and he stars in the first trailer, which you can watch above.
FIFA's main rival, PES 2018, launches for last-gen and current-gen consoles as well as PC on September 14, 2017, two weeks ahead of EA's behemoth. You can read more about Konami's challenger here.
Two high-profile Stephen King movie adaptations are on the way in 2017--the remake of horror classic It arrives in September, and before that, we have the much-anticipated adaptation of King's fantasy classic The Dark Tower. Two new TV spots have now landed, and as before they focus on the conflict between the Gunslinger (Idris Elba) and The Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey). Check them out below:
These new promos follow the full trailer, which was released last month. The movie also features Tom Taylor as young protagonist Jake, plus Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Dennis Haysbert (24), and Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road). It's directed by Nikolaj Arcel.
The Dark Tower was originally set to hit theaters in February, but the release date was subsequently moved to the summer. At the time, it was reported that the ambitious post-production process meant that hitting a February release would have added millions to the budget, so Sony decided to delay the film instead.
However, more recently, producer Ron Howard stated that while a show is in development, it was far from definite. "[There's] not a commitment on the television side," he told TV Guide in April. "But creatively, it could work very well, hand in hand with what we'd like the movies to be."
Some big Pokemon news is coming this week, it seems. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company announced today that "exciting news" about Pokemon will be announced during a Nintendo Direct tomorrow, June 6, starting at 7 AM PT.
— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) June 5, 2017
The briefing is only 8 minutes long, according to Nintendo.
No further details were provided about what to expect. We don't know if this is a game reveal or something else, but we'll report back a page where you can watch the livestream and bring you all the details as they're announced.
Transformers: The Last Knight is now two weeks away from release, and another trailer has landed. This one puts the emphasis on epic action rather than plot or dialogue, and throws knights, Nazis, and intergalactic spectacle into the mix. Check it out below:
The movie stars Mark Wahlberg, Isabela Moner, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel, Stanley Tucci, and John Goodman. It is directed by Michael Bay, who has previously stated that this will be his last movie in the series. The franchise is to continue however, with a Bumblebee spinoff movie in the works.
In a recent interview with Empire, producer Ian Bryce spoke about how The Last Knight would differ from previous films in the series. "There's a new scale of story and character in this one," he said. "It's a bit different this time because I think some of what Mike is known for is what we call spitting metal, cars being ratcheted. There's quite a bit less of that this time. There's definitely some car stuff, but we're probably a bit less focused on that this time.
"He's moved his action into a different place. The knights battle at the beginning is utterly different, we've never done that before. The third act stuff, there's something physically happening within our planetary system that has not been seen before to the extent that we're doing it. There are aerial elements, ground elements, underwater elements. It's visually new."
Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 23.

Following a leak last week, the gold edition PlayStation 4 Slim model has now been confirmed, it seems. Twitter user Wario64 has somehow gotten a hold of the Target weekly ad for the week of June 11, which clearly shows the unannounced console; it's described as a "limited" model.
The console is priced at $250, according to the ad, and will launch the week of June 11.

As of yet, the new gold model PS4 Slim is not confirmed, and Sony has not weighed in on the rumours. This is not the first time Target has leaked some big PlayStation news, as the store also let slip that the PS4 was dropping in price back in 2015.
The latest US box office figures have come in, showing that Wonder Woman ruled the weekend, bringing in $100.5 million across the country for the Friday-Sunday period.
As EW reports, that's good for the highest US opening for a female director in history. Patty Jenkins passes Sam Taylor-Johnson ($85.1 million; Fifty Shades of Grey), Catherine Hardwicke ($69.6 million; Twilight), and Elizabeth Banks ($69.2 million; Pitch Perfect 2).
Internationally, Wonder Woman brought in $122.5 million for the weekend, boosting its global haul to $223 million after just one weekend.
Wonder Woman's US opening numbers are big, but they are still below other recent DC Extended Universe films such as Suicide Squad ($133.7 million) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($166 million).
Rounding out the top five movies at the US box office this weekend were Captain Underpants ($23.5 million), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales ($21.6 million), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($9.7 million), and Baywatch ($8.5 million).

With Destiny 2 on the horizon, Bungie has revealed that it does not plan to release any more gameplay balance changes for the first game.
In its latest weekly blog post, Bungie reiterated that the Age of Triumph update for Destiny 1 is the game's final update. "In our constant watch over the community, we've heard many of you asking if the current sandbox will get another design pass. Our sole focus at this time is Destiny 2," Bungie said.
The developer went on to say that "all hands" at Bungie are now "committed to making Destiny 2 the sequel that this community deserves."
When Destiny 2 comes out in September, fans can expect an "entirely new cycle of updates," though the developer did not share any specifics.
"Our hope is that you'll sense what all your feedback has meant to us when you get your chance to play Destiny 2, wherever or whenever that happens," Bungie said. "As always, we thank you for playing, and for giving the feedback that helps us to make better games."
Although gameplay and balance updates are ending for Destiny 1, fans can be assured that Bungie will continue to offer support services for the game, even after Destiny 2 comes out.
Destiny 2 launches in September for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Bungie is expected to announce more details on the game at E3 coming up next week.
