Shenmue 1 & 2 Announced For PS4, Xbox One, And PC, But Aren't Remasters

By Kevin Knezevic on Apr 14, 2018 08:58 pm

Sega's beloved Dreamcast classic Shenmue is coming to modern platforms. During the Sega Fes event in Japan, the publisher announced it is bringing both the first Shenmue and its sequel, Shenmue II, together in one package to PS4, Xbox One, and PC later this year. And while they will boast some improvements, these are not full on HD remakes or remasters.

The Shenmue I & II collection is billed as the "best Shenmue experience to date." The compilation comes with a host of modern features, including "fully scalable screen resolution, choice of modern or classic control schemes, PC graphics options, an updated user interface, and the option to enjoy either the original Japanese or English voiceovers."

Sega hasn't announced pricing details or an exact release date for Shenmue I & II, but the collection will be available at retail and digitally from the PlayStation and Xbox Stores, as well as Steam. You can take a look at some screenshots from the title in the gallery below.

The first Shenmue originally launched in 1999 and, at the time of its release, had the distinction of being the most expensive video game ever created. Its sequel followed in 2001, although it was only released on Dreamcast in Europe and Japan; the game was later ported to the original Xbox in 2002.

Both titles star Ryo Hazuki, a young martial artist on a quest to find his father's killer and uncover the secret behind a mysterious item known as the Dragon Mirror. The titles were renowned for their impressive open world, deep battle system, and variety of minigames. You can read more about each in our original Shenmue review and Shenmue II review.

Sega had previously said it was "investigating" a potential re-release of the Shenmue games, although at the time the publisher said it wasn't simply a matter of porting the titles to modern consoles. "With games as immersive as [Shenmue and Shenmue II], there are further complications [involving] licensed products that were included in the original games," Sega Europe community manager Dan Sheridan said.

A new installment in the series, Shenmue III, is currently in development for PS4 and PC, following a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. That game is being published worldwide by Deep Silver and is planned to launch sometime this year. You can see some recent screenshots of Shenmue III.

Incredibles 2 Trailer 2 Is A Superhero Riot

By Dan Auty on Apr 14, 2018 08:54 pm

The new trailer for The Incredibles 2 is here. The sequel to Pixar's 2004 superhero adventure hits theaters in June, and the first full trailer follows the teaser released in November and this recent poster.

The trailer focuses on the flourishing superhero career of Helen Parr, aka Elastigirl, while her husband Bob (Mr. Incredible) stays at home looking after the kids--Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack, the increasingly powerful latest addition to their family. The trailer also features the return of Frozone, plus the threat of a mysterious new villain who calls himself the Screen Slaver. Check it out above.

The Incredibles 2 is directed by Brad Bird, who helmed the first movie. The cast includes most of the voice talent from the original, including Holly Hunter, Craig T. Nelson, Sarah Vowell, and Samuel L. Jackson.

The Incredibles 2 hits theaters on June 15, 2018. The first movie made $633 million at the worldwide box office and for several years was the second biggest movie that Pixar had released. It currently stands as its seventh most successful film.

In related news, it was confirmed this week that Toy Story 4 will be released next year. The Pixar sequel has been delayed several times--it was first announced in 2014, and at one stage was set to arrive this summer, before swapping places with The Incredibles 2. It will now be released on June 21, 2019.

Avengers Meets My Hero Academia In Infinity War Crossover

By Chris E. Hayner on Apr 14, 2018 08:52 pm

In case you didn't think Avengers: Infinity War has enough superheroes, even though it contains literally every Marvel Cinematic Universe hero (except possibly Hawkeye; sorry Hawkeye), you're in luck. My Hero Academia, which just debuted its third season on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu, is teaming up with the MCU movie for a crossover trailer.

The collaboration was announced on Twitter, where the official Japanese Avengers account posted a link to a website featuring comparisons between My Hero Academia characters and members of the Avengers team. Toho Animation, which produces My Hero Academia, also uploaded a reworked version of the Infinity War trailer with the anime's characters built in, which you can watch below.

The collaboration's website shows off the parallels between the two superhero worlds. For example, Midoriya is compared to Captain America, while Ochaco steps in as Black Widow. The site also contains My Hero Academia's take on the Infinity War poster, with Shigaraki playing the role of Thanos. Thus far, this is as far as the collaboration between the two projects goes--it appears to be a promotional campaign for Avengers: Infinity War.

The third season of My Hero Academia is airing now, and you can check out GameSpot's comprehensive coverage of Avengers: Infinity War, from which characters will survive to where the heck Hawkeye is. The movie hits theaters on April 27.

By Kevin Knezevic on Apr 14, 2018 08:52 pm

As teased, Microsoft revealed a bunch of new original Xbox games that will soon be backwards compatible with Xbox One. During the latest episode of Inside Xbox, the company announced that 19 original Xbox titles will be playable on the current-gen console this month, including some of the platform's most beloved releases.

The next round of backwards compatible titles will be divided up into two batches, the first of which will arrive next week, on April 17. It consists of Destroy All Humans, MX Unleashed, Full Spectrum Warrior, and an assortment of Star Wars titles, including Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, the original Battlefront and Battlefront II, Republic Commando, Jedi Starfighter, and Knights of the Old Republic II. It Sequel Potentially Adds Bill Hader And James McAvoy

By Eddie Makuch on Apr 14, 2018 08:51 pm

The sequel to the Stephen King movie It is on the way, and now we've learned two more actors who may be a part of it. Variety reports that James McAvoy (Split, Chronicles of Narnia) and Bill Hader (Trainwreck, SNL) are in discussions to star in the sequel.

In 2017's It, a group of children were terrorized by a killer clown. In the sequel, those who survived return to Derry, Maine as adults to face their fears again. McAvoy is reportedly going to play Bill (who was played by Jaeden Lieberher in the original), with Hader apparently playing the part of Finn Wolfhard's penis joke-loving character Richie Tozier.

No Caption Provided

Jessica Chastain has already been confirmed to play the adult version of Beverly. Andy Muschietti, who directed the first It, told Variety in 2017 that he wanted to bring all the original actors for flashback sequences, but it remains to be seen if this will happen.

According to Variety's sources, no deals have been signed for McAvoy and Hader, with discussions described as being in the "early" stages. The script, which is being written by Gary Dauberman, is apparently not finished.

Muschietti is coming back to direct the It sequel, while Bill Skarsgard will play Pennywise again. The sequel will start shooting this summer ahead of its September 6, 2019 release date.

2017's It was a huge hit, making more than $700 million worldwide. The plan was to make two parts, but that hinged on the first being a success--it definitely was.

The Rock Gets Excited About Rampage Reviews, Upsets Doom's Twitter Account

By Chris Pereira on Apr 14, 2018 08:49 pm

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's latest movie, Rampage, has arrived in theaters. It's a loose adaptation of the classic game of the same name, and while that may sound like a recipe for another bad movie, it's actually quite entertaining, as our Rampage review states. The Rock seems pleased to have possibly cracked the video game movie curse, though he's upset the people behind Doom's Twitter account in the process of sharing that excitement.

Score aggregator Rotten Tomatoes tweeted to point out that Rampage's average review score at the time (53%) would put it ahead of every video game movie in history. The Rock took note of this, tweeting, "Wow! Very cool Rampage news! Not pointing to the scoreboard yet, but it seems we may have finally broken the dreaded video game curse. And remember, I starred in the stinker Doom so I have lived thy curse."

Cut to Doom's Twitter account, which either didn't take kindly to The Rock taking a shot like that or just reminding people that the Doom movie exists.

While the Doom movie wasn't very good, things for the franchise have looked better since then. The latest game, 2016's simply titled Doom, was a stellar first-person shooter, offering a surprisingly engaging single-player campaign. A PS4 Pro and Xbox One X update was released recently that makes those versions look especially nice. And late last year, we got a Nintendo Switch port that actually played quite well (albeit without some of the visual flair of other platforms).

As for Rampage, it's out now in theaters. Our review says it's "dumb as hell, but it's also pretty dang entertaining." It's also got The Rock doing The Rock things, which on its own might make it worth the price of admission for many people.

PS4 Flash Sale On PSN Games In The US

By Chris Reed on Apr 14, 2018 08:47 pm

As Sony likes to do every month or so, it has just unveiled a new Flash Sale on the PlayStation Store. Between now and April 16, you can get a good number of games at heavily discounted rates. It's Friday the 13th weekend, so it's no surprise the theme is horror. Read on to see what standout games are on sale this weekend. Just make sure to lock in your purchases before the sale ends on April 16.

The game that resembles a horror movie most closely is Until Dawn, a cinematic adventure game about a group of teens staying at a cabin in the woods. It's on sale for $6 (down from $20). If you haven't played The Last of Us Remastered, you'll almost certainly enjoy its cinematic bonafides as you fight nightmare creatures in a post-apocalyptic world. It's on sale for $8 (regularly $20), and its Left Behind expansion is down to $4 (from $10).

The Evil Within 2 ($30 instead of $60) and Outlast 2 ($12, down from $30) both bring the spooks by dropping you in regions haunted by supernatural horrors. The BioShock Collection ($20, down from $60) and Soma ($8, regularly $30) are frightening games about big ideas, and both feature claustrophobic underwater settings. Alien: Isolation has a sealed-in setting of its own in the form of a space station. It's on sale for $9, instead of its usual $30. Another space horror game, Prey, is on sale for half off at $20.

A number of dark indie games are also on sale. Inside is $8 (was $20), while Limbo is $2 (down from $10). The spooky narrative-heavy Oxenfree is $5 (down from $20), while the ultra-challening Darkest Dungeon is $10 (down from $25). The rhythm-roguelike Crypt of the Necrodancer is $3 (was $15).

If mind-bending games that are only occasionally horrific are more your speed--and you don't mind reading a lot of text--check out the collection Zero Escape: The Nonary Games ($20, down from $50) and its sequel Zero Time Dilemma ($16, down from $40).

If you have a PSVR headset lying around, you may want to check out The Inpatient or the zombie shooter Arizona Sunshine, both $16 (down from $40), or The Invisible Hours for $12 (down from $30).

Perhaps you're in the mood to revisit some PS One classics (or see what all the older gamers are talking about). Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is on sale for $3, while the original Silent Hill and a few early Resident Evil games are down to around $2 each. Unfortunately those aren't playable on PS4, but you can play them on PS3, PS Vita, or PSP.

Visit the Flash Sale page on the PlayStation Store for the full list. All in all, this is a pretty killer sale for anyone looking to add some horror to their Friday the 13th weekend.

Sea Of Thieves Roadmap Includes Big Content Updates For Xbox One And PC

By Steve Watts on Apr 14, 2018 08:46 pm

Rare has issued a roadmap detailing its upcoming plans for Sea of Thieves on Xbox One and PC. The centerpiece of the plan includes big content updates through the rest of the year. Those big updates will be supplemented by regular weekly events with new goals and rewards. The weekly updates and regular content updates will be available for free.

The first big update, coming this May, is called The Hungering Deep. It will add a new AI threat, as well as new mechanics and rewards. This summer, the Cursed Sails update will include a new ship type, and then Forsaken Shores will add a new area to the map. After that, three more updates are planned for release by the end of 2018.

The studio stressed that its plans will evolve based on feedback. Other systems it planned to introduce within a few months of launch--such as Pets and Ship Captaincy--have been placed on the back-burner due to other priorities. "Expect our plans to continue to be fluid but always with the goals listed above as our guiding principles," the update read.

Rare has already shown some capacity for rolling with the punches, as it dropped a planned death penalty feature shortly after announcing it. It has been supporting the game with regular patches, mostly to fix bugs and performance issues so far, but now we know it has much bigger plans than that. It's a good sign for a game that was criticized in GameSpot's review for feeling repetitive and light. If the promise of regular updates is enough to bring you aboard, check out some tips on things to know before you set sail.

PUBG War Mode Is Live On PC, Features Respawns

By Patrick Faller on Apr 14, 2018 08:44 pm

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds may be known as a battle royale brawler, but the latest Event Mode is changing up the game's one-life-only gameplay. War Mode is now live on PC and allows you to play team deathmatches with respawns every 40 seconds. The Event Mode is only around until the end of the weekend.

War Mode is 10 vs. 10 on the Erangel map, and it takes place in a static play zone. If you die, you're able to re-enter the battle via special respawn planes that fly by every 40 seconds. Teams gain points by killing enemies and reviving teammates, and the team that reaches 200 points in the first 15 minutes wins. War ends on Sunday, April 15, at 10 PM ET / 7 PM PT (3 AM BST Monday).

No Caption Provided

In other PUBG news, a new update has just been released for PC players. Patch 10 is now available and makes a number of adjustments to the Miramar map and other aspects of the game, including tweaks to the northeastern and northwestern parts of the map. Additional roads, off-road paths, and car spawn locations have been added too, and the delay time between Blue Zones has been decreased to give players less time between phases.

Meanwhile, players can sign up starting Saturday to take part in the second round of testing for PUBG's new map, Savage. PUBG Corp. will be reactivating its registration site on Saturday, April 14, at 5 AM PT / 8 AM ET / 1 PM BST. If you already have a beta key for PUBG's Experimental Test Server, you already have everything you need to take part in the second round of testing. Check out GameSpot's impressions of Savage and its faster, more intense gameplay from the first round of testing.

PUBG's New Savage Map Gets Second Beta Test; Here's How To Sign Up

By Patrick Faller on Apr 14, 2018 08:43 pm

PUBG's new map Savage got its first round of beta testing on PC earlier in the month, and now players who missed out are getting another chance to give it a try. Developer PUBG Corp. has announced it is running a second round of testing next week and will be giving out more beta keys starting this weekend.

If you want to sign up for the chance to play, PUBG Corp. will be reactivating its registration site on Saturday, April 14, at 5 AM PT / 8 AM ET / 1 PM BST. Anyone who wasn't part of the first round of testing can sign up for a beta key then. If you took part in the first round of testing and already have a beta key for the Closed Experimental Server, then you're good to go to play in the second round of testing as well. Sign-ups for beta keys will end Tuesday, April 17, at 5 AM PT / 8 AM ET / 1 PM BST. We'll also be giving away Savage codes here on GameSpot.

Testing itself will begin Monday, April 16, at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET (2 AM BST on Tuesday), and will continue until Wednesday, April 18, at the same times. As we discovered in the last testing phase, Savage is a different gameplay experience than PUBG's two other maps, thanks mostly to its smaller size. The map is 4 km x 4 km, and the result is a more close-quarters, faster combat experience, especially in the temple and resort areas. Watch the video above to get more of GameSpot's impressions of the map, which feels a bit more like Fortnite than other PUBG experiences.

In other PUBG news, Xbox One players will soon get the chance to try the game for free. Anyone with an Xbox Live Gold membership will be able to play the full game for free April 19-22. A new cosmetic DLC pack has been announced for the game on Xbox One, too, and Microsoft has said PUBG's second map, Miramar, will be coming to the console version of the game in May. For PC players, patch 10 is now available, bringing a number of changes to blue zones and the Miramar map.

Monster Hunter World: How To Get Mega Man Palico Armor And Weapon

By Chris Pereira on Apr 14, 2018 08:37 pm

The next crossover event in Monster Hunter World is now available. With the Spring Blossom Fest event ongoing, a new quest is now available on PS4 and Xbox One that allows you to get your hands on the crafting materials necessary to dress your Palico up like Mega Man.

The event quest itself is called A Rush of Blood, and it's an Arena where you have to hunt two Odagarons. One of these is an adorable, miniaturized version of the monster. That wrinkle aside, it's an otherwise standard 7-star mission, with limits of 50 minutes and three faints. Completing it will reward you with Mega Man Tickets, which are one of the resources necessary to craft the new gear. You'll have to repeat the fight several times to get enough tickets for everything.

With those in hand, head to the Smithy and open the Forge Palico Equipment section. Go to Full Armor Sets, and you can craft the Mega Man gear, which consists of two High Rank pieces: the Mega Man Helmet and Mega Man Suit. This costs three Mega Man Tickets.

For the Palico weapon, you'll go to the Standard Equipment area of the Forge Palico Equipment section. Toward the bottom of the High Rank weapons, you'll find find the Mega Man set's weapon, called the Mega Buster. This costs an additional two Mega Man Tickets, meaning you'll need five total to craft everything.

One unique aspect of this gear was teased during its original announcement. Depending on what weapon your character has equipped, you'll hear different classic Mega Man music when your Palico has this gear on. However, this is only true in the event quest; you unfortunately won't be hearing it during your regular adventures.

You have only a limited time to collect the necessary materials for this gear, as the event quest will only be available until April 27. The Spring Blossom Fest, meanwhile, ends on April 19 and provides an opportunity to get a new greatsword and armor.

Fortnite Update Brings Dance Floors, 3 Boats For Week 8 Challenges

By Chris Pereira on Apr 14, 2018 08:37 pm

Following its most recent update, Fortnite's next set of challenges have gone live on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile. Week 8 involves the usual mixture of straightforward objectives and several that will either require some additional legwork or a guide to completing them.

The most notable of the bunch is one that asks you to dance on different Dance Floors. These are newly added areas in the latest update, and you'll have to find a total of three to do your thing on in order to pass this challenge. Fortunately, you don't have to do all of this in a single match.

Another one that may trip you up is a Hard-difficulty challenge telling you to search between Three Boats. This requires you to know the map well, have a guide, or to just piece together that Loot Lake is where you'll find boats. Head there and pick up the Battle Star on the southeastern dock to complete the challenge.

Finally, the last of the trickier Week 8 challenges is one asking you to use a Vending Machine. These were added in the 3.4 content update and allow you to exchange materials you've collected for different items. You can check out our Vending Machine locations guide to find the most likely areas for one to show up.

Other Week 8 challenges include one that asks you to deal damage with explosive weapons. That should be easy enough, although you'll have one less weapon with which to do so, as the Guided Missile has been disabled temporarily at the time of this week. That's due to an animation bug following the release of Fortnite's 3.5 update.

You can check out the full list of challenges below--these are available to complete on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile, provided you own the Season 3 Battle Pass. Completing challenges allows you to more quickly level up the Battle Pass, earning you Season 3 skins and rewards.

Fortnite Week 8 Challenges

  • Use a Vending Machine -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Deal damage with Explosive Weapons to opponents (500) -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Search Chests in Snobby Shores (7) -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Dance on different Dance Floors (3) -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Hard: Search between Three Boats -- 10 Battle Stars
  • Hard: Assault Rifle Eliminations (5) -- 10 Battle Stars
  • Hard: Eliminate opponents in Dusty Depot (3) -- 10 Battle Stars

Pokemon Go Community Day April 2018: Start Times, Bonuses, And Special Event Move

By Kevin Knezevic on Apr 14, 2018 08:24 am

Pokemon Go's next real-world event is right around the corner. This month's Community Day takes place this Sunday, April 15, and gives players around the world a chance to earn bonuses and obtain a Pokemon that knows a special event-exclusive move.

As usual, the event will only run during a three-hour window, which begins at different times depending on where you live. The event kicks off in the US at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET and ends at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET; in Europe and Africa, it runs from 10 AM - 1 PM UTC; and in the Asia-Pacific region, the event lasts from 12 PM - 3 PM JST.

The bonus Niantic is offering this month is a dramatic reduction to how long it takes Eggs to hatch. During the event hours, all Eggs will hatch at a quarter of the distance they typically require. In addition to that, any Lure Modules that are used will remain activate for three hours.

No Caption Provided

The featured Pokemon for this month's Community Day is Mareep. The Electric-type sheep will spawn in greater numbers during the event hours. If players manage to evolve it into its final form, Ampharos, before the Community Day ends, the Pokemon will learn the Dragon-type attack Dragon Pulse.

April's Community Day coincides with the ongoing Kanto Week event. That runs until April 17 and makes it easier to find Pokemon originally from the Red and Blue versions, such as Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu. Additionally, other Gen I monsters like Snorlax and Aerodactyl will appear as Raid bosses, and players will earn twice as much Candy for capturing and transferring Pokemon.

In addition to that, players still have an opportunity to capture a new Legendary Pokemon. From now until May 8, the Eon Pokemon Latios and Latias will be available in Raid Battles in different parts of the world. The former can be found in North America, South America, and Africa, while the latter is currently exclusive to Europe and Asia. On that date, the two Legendaries will swap regions, where they will remain until June 5.

How To Watch The Persona 5 Anime

The anime adaptation of last year's acclaimed RPG Persona 5 is now streaming. Persona 5: The Animation is available on Hulu in the US and Crunchyroll in the Americas, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. The first episode premiered on April 7 and will be simulcast every Saturday for the duration of the series.

Persona 5: The Animation follows the same premise as the game. It begins with the protagonist--named Ren Amamiya--transferring to Shujin Academy. Soon after, his persona awakens, and he and his friends form the Phantom Thieves. Aniplex of America released six minutes of the Episode 1 prologue with English subtitles, which you can watch below.

While Production I.G (best known for Ghost in the Shell) made the animated sequences from the game, A-1 Pictures is producing Persona 5: The Animation. A-1 Pictures previously worked on Persona 4: The Golden Animation. Additionally, the game's Japanese voice cast are reprising their roles for the anime, and Shoji Meguro is returning to compose the music.

Darksiders 3 Publisher Won't Be At E3, Says It'll Be Drinking Beer And Watching Soccer Instead

By Alex Newhouse on Apr 14, 2018 05:25 am

It's a long journey from THQ Nordic's headquarters in Vienna, Austria to Los Angeles, where E3 is held every year, and this year the publisher has decided not to make the trek across the world. As a result, none of THQ Nordic's upcoming games will be shown at the big convention.

In its own words, the company will instead stay at home, drink beer, and follow the World Cup, while also checking in on the games industry every once in a while. It specifically mentioned Devolver Digital's upcoming press conference, which, if last year's is any indication, is sure to be wild.

"It is with great regret that we at THQ Nordic must report that we will be unable to miss a single moment of this great sporting event," the publisher said. "Therefore, we will be forced to stay in our lovely Viennese beer gardens, blowing the froth off a couple, watching football and one or two cool press conferences on Twitch (looking at you, Devolver) instead of rocking it ourselves."

THQ Nordic has a number of games in the works right now, including Darksiders III and Biomutant. It's planning on showing its games off at other conventions, such as Gamescom in Germany later this year.

In other news, THQ Nordic purchased Koch Media earlier in 2018, which means that Saints Row developer Volition is once again under the THQ umbrella. The acquisition also gave THQ Nordic 4A Games and its Metro series.

You Can Earn Xbox Achievements On Switch With Minecraft's Upcoming Update

By Alex Newhouse on Apr 14, 2018 04:46 am

When Microsoft announced a big effort to unify all the versions of Minecraft and institute cross-play, it confirmed that this meant that players would sign into an Xbox Live account, even on Switch. The company has now revealed that this integration will go one step further: you'll actually be able to earn Xbox Live Achievements in the Switch version.

Microsoft told GameSpot in a statement that this will, indeed, be the case. Players will sign into an Xbox Live account and accrue Gamerscore, even in the Switch version. This will be implemented in the Bedrock Update, which has already been rolled out on Xbox One, PC, and mobile.

"We can confirm that Minecraft players on Nintendo Switch will be able to earn achievements and Gamerscore tied to Xbox Live when the Bedrock update is released," Microsoft explained.

Microsoft has said in the past that the update is slated for a 2018 release on Switch, but it hasn't provided any specifics yet. Microsoft's updates to Switch have previously resulted in other interesting crossovers, such as the Master Chief skin showing up in DLC available on the Switch version.

What Are Fortnite's Vending Machines? Map Locations In Battle Royale

By Chris Pereira on Apr 14, 2018 04:27 am

Fortnite updates continue to rapidly roll out, and one of the most recent additions to Battle Royale came in the form of Vending Machines. If you're able to find one, you can trade in building materials you've gathered in exchange for a variety of items, which vary from machine to machine. You'll often find these in the same spots, but they are not fixtures. With Week 8 challenges tasking you to use one, we've detailed the common locations and where to find them, as well as exactly how they function and what prices are like.

You'll find Vending Machines all around the map--typically indoors, if our experience is any indication, though we've also found one that was outdoors. Each one has three items for sale and will gradually rotate through them. You can wait for it to change to the item you want to purchase, or you can hit the machine with your pickaxe to make it jump to the next of the three.

Vending Machines are each randomly assigned a rarity level at the start of a match, as the patch notes explain. They then sell items at that specific rarity--one for each material type (wood, stone, and metal). You'll need a specific amount of that material to buy the corresponding item, though you're free to buy as many items as you wish, provided you can afford it. That may put a renewed emphasis on collecting materials with the pickaxe, even for players who don't care about building. Here's how much items will cost at each rarity:

  • Common (white) items -- 100 materials
  • Uncommon (green) items -- 200 materials
  • Rare (blue) -- 300 materials
  • Epic (purple) -- 400 materials
  • Legendary (gold) -- 500 materials

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4

In terms of finding the Vending Machines, they're scattered all across the map, but they don't always appear in the same spots. You can see what it's like to interact with some in the video above, and we've also compiled the map you see above, which combines the discoveries of Reddit user clizzythegod with those we've found ourselves. As you'd expect, you'll most easily find Vending Machines in high-density areas like Pleasant Park, Tilted Towers, Salty Springs, and Retail Row, but there are others in unnamed parts of the map.

Vending Machines were added as part of Fortnite's 3.4 content update for mobile, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This is part of developer Epic Games' new plan to roll out new content every other week. These content updates won't individually require you to download anything, as it seems the additions will be included as part of earlier patches. We've since gotten update 3.5, which adds the Port-a-Fort.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Update Adds Microtransactions, Limited-Time Mode Next Week

By Alex Newhouse on Apr 14, 2018 04:23 am

Star Wars: Battlefront II is getting a new update next week, and it'll mark the return of Crystals, the currency that you can buy with real-world cash. The Night on Endor Update is headlined, however, by the limited-time Ewok Hunt mode.

Night on Endor brings back Crystals, which allow you to purchase in-game items with real money. However, DICE has implemented some significant changes following the backlash that caused the studio to entirely remove microtransactions from the game. First, Crystals can only be used to buy Appearances, which are cosmetic items. The update also adds a slew of new Appearances, such as Endor Leia and Endor Han; Appearances can be bought with normal, in-game Credits as well.

Second, Star Cards are not coming back; gameplay and progression-related items are contained solely within the progression system. The microtransaction system will be strictly contained to cosmetic items.

The update will also introduce the first game mode that allows players to play as Ewoks. Ewok Hunt is a limited-time, asymmetric mode that pits a team of Ewoks against a team of Stormtroopers. It is the Ewoks' task to eliminate the Stormtroopers; the troopers must withstand the attack until evacuation. Every Stormtrooper that is killed spawns a new Ewok. DICE hasn't yet said when this mode will be removed from the game.

The update goes live on April 18 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and includes various other tweaks and balance fixes. In addition, DICE announced that Season Two of Battlefront II content will arrive in May. Seasons will revolve around specific themes; the studio hasn't revealed what Season Two's theme will be, but focusing on the upcoming Solo film is a possibility.

Avengers: Infinity War Story Recap -- Get Caught Up On The Marvel Cinematic Universe

By Chris E. Hayner on Apr 14, 2018 04:17 am

With 18 films over the last decade, there is a lot to remember of the Marvel Cinematic Universe before Avengers: Infinity War hits the big screen. An entire universe of superheroes has been born in the movies. Now, for the first time, they're all banding together to fight a common threat.

Where did they all leave off, though? Take a look at GameSpot's recap of the Marvel Cinematic Universe above, as we delve into the whereabouts of everyone that's been revealed thus far. Most of the MCU's main character's were last seen in Captain America: Civil War, when the Avengers were split down the middle in a dispute between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans). It leaves the status of the super team in question as Thanos (Josh Brolin) comes to Earth in Infinity War.

Meanwhile, Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) are still in space in the aftermath of Thor: Ragnarok, not unlike the Guardians of the Galaxy. As that's happening, T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) is introducing the world to how powerful his home country of Wakanda is, after the events of Black Panther. The technological advancements the country has made due to its rich vibranium sources are bound to have a big impact on the Avengers going forward.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, though. With so many characters to keep track of--including Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly)--Avengers: Infinity War promises to be the most action-packed and busy MCU movie yet.

After you take a look at the video above, make sure to check out GameSpot's comprehensive coverage of the film, from the locations of the Infinity Stones to which Avengers we're expecting to die. Avengers: Infinity War is in theaters on April 27.

Marvel Movie Order: The Best Way To Catch Up For Avengers: Infinity War

By Tamoor Hussain on Apr 14, 2018 04:15 am

Earlier this year, Marvel and Disney brought the Avengers: Infinity War release date forward, so the movie is coming out earlier than previously expected. While that's exciting for those of us eager to see Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther, and the gang take on Thanos, it also means there's less time to get caught up on everything that has happened so far.

Watching every MCU movie that has been released thus far sounds like a mammoth task, but since it's all been building up to this, we reckon it's one worth undertaking. To make things a little easier, and to give you the best catch-up experience you could have, GameSpot's very own Dave Jewitt has put together a handy watch order.

You might think that you don't need a watch order and that you can simply see them using the order they were released and, yes, you can do that, but there's a better way. Since some events in the MCU take place in parallel or reference each other, there's actually a more ideal chronology. Dave has also done a little extra work and suggested the best Marvel One-Shots to watch too. These are shorter mini-movies that were available as part of the home releases on DVD, Blu-ray, and digitally. While not essential to the overall MCU, they're well worth checking out as they provide a little extra colour to the MCU and some deeper insights into important characters.

If you'd prefer to see a list of the movies in Dave's suggested order instead of hearing the lineup delivered in his dulcet tones, take a look below.

  • Captain America: The First Avenger
  • Marvel One Shot: Agent Carter
  • Iron Man
  • The Incredible Hulk
  • Iron Man 2
  • Marvel One Shot: A Funny Thing Happened on the way to Thor's Hammer
  • Thor
  • Marvel One Shot: The Consultant
  • The Avengers
  • Marvel One Shot: Item 47
  • Iron Man 3
  • Marvel One Shot: All Hail The King
  • Thor Dark World
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron
  • Ant-Man
  • Captain America: Civil War
  • Black Panther
  • Doctor Strange
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming
  • Thor: Ragnarok

Avengers: Infinity War will bring together the MCU to take on Thanos. Along with the core Avengers cast that we know and love, the misfits from Guardians of the Galaxy and characters introduced in Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok will join the fray, along with a few others. Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27.

GameStop Increases PS4, Xbox One Trade-In Values For Limited Time

By Chris Reed on Apr 14, 2018 04:10 am

If you're looking to offload an Xbox One or PlayStation 4, GameStop has some good news for you. The retailer is temporarily upping the amount of trade-in credit on those consoles by between $40 and $80, depending on the model you have.

Here's the rundown on the old trade-in values versus the new. That extra $80 for a 2TB Xbox One Slim could go a long way toward an Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, or Nintendo Switch.

No Caption Provided

But because all good things must come to an end, the trade-in value increase is only in effect between now and April 22 (which is an extension of the original announcement). So hurry up and unplug those console you're not using.

"We're delivering on our promise to give customers better trade-in deals they can't refuse on top products--the right products with the right deals. We're not talking pocket change either," said Bob Puzon, senior vice president of merchandising for GameStop. "Who doesn't want to earn an extra $40-$80 on video game hardware that's just sitting around the house collecting dust?"

GameStop also accepts games and other kinds of hardware you might have lying around, including mobile phones, tablets, and electronics accessories. It even takes broken or damaged items, though obviously that affects the amount of credit you'll receive.

Fortnite Week 1-8 Challenges: Season 3 Objectives So Far

By Chris Pereira on Apr 14, 2018 04:05 am

Season 3 of Fortnite: Battle Royale is ongoing, and each week brings a new set of challenges for players to complete. There's a free set of objectives for everyone to take on over the course of the season, but only those who purchase the Season 3 Battle Pass get to deal with the additional weekly challenges. These present players with specific goals to target and offer a path to quickly level up the Battle Pass and acquire its many rewards.

Although challenges are referred to as weekly, you have more than a week to complete them--they're available until Season 3 concludes at the end of April. As such, it's not too late to pick up the Battle Pass now and go back to complete challenges from past weeks.

Xbox One Free Games With Gold For April Now Available

By Kevin Knezevic on Apr 14, 2018 04:04 am

It's a new month, which means Xbox Live Gold subscribers now have another free batch of games to download. Two new freebies are now available for Xbox One and Xbox 360, with another pair of titles set to follow halfway through April.

On Microsoft's current-gen console, Gold members can now download The Witness, the acclaimed puzzle game from developer Thekla and Braid designer Jonathan Blow. On the 360 side, subscribers can grab Cars 2, the video game adaptation of the Disney/Pixar film, at no charge. The latter is also playable on Xbox One thanks to backwards compatibility.

Both The Witness and Cars 2 were actually available to download a little early this past weekend. The former will be available for free throughout the entire month, while the latter will return to its regular price on April 15. Gold members also still have a little more time to download one holdover from March's Games with Gold: the stylish first-person shooter Superhot. That will remain free until April 16.

Two more free Xbox One and 360 games are slated to arrive on April 16. On the newer console, Gold members will be able to download Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the 2015 installment that's set in 19th century London. Meanwhile, EA's horror game Dead Space 2 will be available on the 360 side. Like Cars 2, it is also backwards compatible on Xbox One. You can take a look at the full list of April's free Games with Gold below.

The biggest new release of the week is the arrival of Lost in Space Season 1. Additionally, this week sees new seasons of The Magic School Bus Rides Again and AMO, along with original films Come Sunday, I'm Not an Easy Man, and Pickpockets--which is set on Bogota as a group of teens learn to be master thieves. PS4's Free PS Plus Games Of April Now Available

By Chris Reed on Apr 14, 2018 04:02 am

We're now well into the new month, and for PlayStation Plus members, that means there are free games to grab. While this month's offerings can't live up to last month's killer lineup, players will find plenty of free fun in April.

Leading the pack is the often-overlooked Mad Max, an open-world game about building a destructive car and taking out apocalyptic marauders. In GameSpot's Mad Max review, Peter Brown came away unsatisfied with the ground combat, but thoroughly enjoyed bashing up enemies while behind the wheel of his "Magnum Opus."

The second-biggest game in this month's PS Plus lineup is TrackMania Turbo, which also puts you behind the wheel of a car, but with very different goals from Mad Max. Your job in this arcade racer is to reach the finish line on gravity-defying tracks in as short a time as possible. It's also compatible with PSVR, in case you have a need for speed.

Thanks to PlayStation's Cross Buy functionality, three of the other games also run on PS4. First is In Space We Brawl, a multiplayer twin-stick shooter that also works on PS3. Next is the side-scrolling beat-'em-up 99Vidas, which plays on PS3 and PS Vita as well as PS4. Then there's Q*Bert: Rebooted, which is compatible with all three PlayStation platforms, but unfortunately isn't very good. Finally, PS3 owners get Toy Home, a charming, colorful racing game.

All of these games are available to download for free from the PlayStation Store through May 1. And don't forget, this is the final year that PS3 and Vita games will be offered through PS Plus.

April 2018 Free PS Plus Games

PS4

  • Mad Max

Fortnite Update Released With New Port-a-Fort; Patch Notes Released

By Oscar Dayus on Apr 14, 2018 03:52 am

Fortnite has another update out, and Battle Royale has a new item available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile. In addition, the previously announced replay system has been implemented, a new limited-time mode is coming soon, and a bunch of new cosmetics have been added to Save the World. Numerous issues cropped up after its release, but things seem to be running smoothly now, and players will get freebies as compensation with update 3.5.1 now available.

Version 3.5, as this larger update is called, adds the recently teased Port-a-Fort feature, which is a throwable item that spawns a fort in seconds. You can carry up to five of these, though they only drop in stacks of one. Take a look at the Epic-tier item below. Battle Royale will also revive the 50v50 mode "soon" with a few small changes, although it's since been delayed until next week. Additionally, the console versions should load faster and some weapon changes have been made.

Save the World, meanwhile, adds some new cosmetic options that include four new Heroes with a cyberpunk theme and a set of neon weapon skins. Take a look at those in the images below.

Aside from bug fixes and balance tweaks, the only other meaningful addition is Fortnite's replay system. This allows you to save your matches and watch them back from any angle. This is designed for sharing options but could also allow you to learn from where you and other players go wrong. Take a look at the full patch notes at the bottom of this article, via Epic.

Our Fortnite: Battle Royale review went live just recently. Critic Michael Higham enjoyed the multiplayer title and awarded it an 8/10. "While there are several moving parts in the game's ecosystem, Fortnite's biggest accomplishment is in how it seamlessly merges a number of simple mechanics to create a distinguishable battle royale game," he wrote. "What looks to be a straightforward building system steadily escalates to an elaborate display of tactical prowess. As the saying goes: It's easy to learn, hard to master. Although a few shortcomings in the map design eventually surface and fatigue in looting can set in, Fortnite rarely fails at challenging you in unexpected ways, resulting in something more than just another typical last-person-standing shooter."

For more on Epic's hit game, check out six common mistakes players make in Fortnite: Battle Royale or our Vending Machines location guide. Alternatively, take a look at our Fortnite beginners guide.

On both platforms, we expect to see fewer issues with geometry or cosmetics failing to load in time, and FPS drops during skydiving. The Witcher 3's Geralt Gets A New Figure, And It Comes With His Bathtub

By Kallie Plagge on Apr 14, 2018 03:45 am

An adorable new figure of The Witcher 3's Geralt is now available for pre-order. The chibi-style Nendoroid figure includes Gwent cards, his steel and silver swords, and, of course, the infamous bathtub. You can find the figure on GoodSmile's English website.

Nendoroids are posable figures that often come with several face options, props, and parts. Because of the big-head, small-body style, a lot of Nendoroid figures are of anime characters--but not all of them, obviously. Geralt of Rivia is the latest addition to the line. You can see all his sample poses below.

Nendoroid Geralt costs 4,815 yen before tax. With tax and shipping from Japan, it's about $69 for the figure. The website notes that "he also comes with an interchangeable face plate that captures the veins along his face when he overdoses on decoctions and potions!"

In other Witcher 3 news, the game recently received an HDR update on PS4. Geralt will also appear in the upcoming SoulCalibur VI as a playable fighter.
