Free Legendary Pokemon Coming In May For Ultra Sun And Moon

By Steve Watts on Apr 26, 2018 12:04 am

Next month you'll be able to claim two more Legendary Pokemon with an in-store promotion at GameStop stores. Serebii reports that from May 4 through May 27, you can claim the dark/flying type Yveltal in Pokemon Sun and Ultra Sun, and the fairy type Xerneas in Pokemon Moon and Ultra Moon. Both were the cover characters for Pokemon X and Y, respectively.

This is part of Nintendo's year-long Legendary Pokemon celebration, which has been distributing a new set of rare monsters regularly through in-store promotions. The current promotion is through Target stores, handing out a free Entei and Raikou. That giveaway has ended for European trainers, but those in the states still have until April 29 to claim theirs.

To get yours, head to the proper retailer during the specified dates and select Mystery Gift from the main menu. From there, you'll be able to either download or input a code distributed through the retailer. Once you log back in, find the delivery man in the Pokemon Center to grab it, and make sure you have an empty spot in your party to claim the monster.

Nintendo promised a full Year of Legendaries in 2018, giving away bucketfuls of high-powered pocket monsters. January and December are the only two months missing, making this the fourth Legendary distribution. Next month fans will be able to get their hands on a Shiny Zygarde, also from X and Y.

New Xbox One System Update Launches, Here's What It Does

By Chris Pereira on Apr 25, 2018 11:57 pm

Microsoft has rolled out the latest system update for Xbox One. This isn't a major one that transforms the basic look and functionality of the system's dashboard, but it does introduce some new features that will be welcomed by those who can take advantage of them.

Many of the additions were either announced previously or were available for those in the Xbox Insiders program, which allows users to test upcoming system features. For instance, AMD FreeSync support is officially implemented for those with compatible displays. This is available on all Xbox One systems, although only Xbox One S and Xbox One X can output HDR with FreeSync 2.

There's also a new Auto Low-Latency mode that can be enabled in the system settings. This lets your console send a message to your display (assuming it supports ALLM) to let it know to enable its Game mode, which will help to reduce input latency.

Xbox One S and Xbox One X gain video output support for 1440p, which should come in handy for those who play on PC monitors. That makes this especially useful for those with FreeSync displays that don't offer 4K.

Mixer streaming integration gets better with this update, as a new Share Controller option has been added. This allows people watching a Mixer stream to be able to take control of the action, either with a virtual controller or by plugging one into their computer. Other Mixer refinements include being able to start a broadcast from anywhere on the system, and better support (both for viewer and streamer) when switching games or viewing the dashboard.

The new update also lets you share screenshots and video clips directly to Twitter from the Guide and switch between light and dark dashboard themes based on the current time. The Narrator feature has been enhanced, and there are new audio balance settings when streaming music while playing games.

A full list of changes can be seen on the official Xbox website. If the update doesn't automatically install for you, you can manually trigger it from the System area of the Settings menu. The update weighs in at about 792 MB.

The Simpsons Star Offers To Stop Voicing Apu Amid Controversy

By Chris E. Hayner on Apr 25, 2018 11:54 pm

It's been a bumpy few weeks for The Simpsons. The long-running animated series has come under fire after its response to the controversy surrounding the character Apu. The Problem with Apu, a 2017 documentary, explored the idea that the character portrayed negative racial stereotypes. In response, The Simpsons had Lisa break the fourth wall in the April 8 episode, saying, "Something that started decades ago and was applauded and inoffensive is now politically incorrect. What can you do?"

That dismissal didn't sit well with many in the audience, who took to social media to talk about their disappointment in the show. Now the man behind the voice of Apu, Hank Azaria, says he's willing to retire from the character. Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Azaria says, "I think the most important thing is to listen to Indian people and their experience with it. I really want to see Indian, South Asian writers in the writers room... including how [Apu] is voiced or not voiced. I'm perfectly willing to step aside. It just feels like the right thing to do to me."

According to Azaria, the situation has been an eye-opener for him. "The idea that anyone young or old, past or present, being bullied based on Apu really makes me sad," he says. "It certainly was not my intention. I wanted to bring joy and laughter to people."

Whether this means the show will write out Apu or recast him with a different voice actor remains to be seen. For his part, executive producer Al Jean has been discussing the issue on Twitter, writing, "Will continue to try to find an answer that is popular & more [importantly] right." Meanwhile, Hari Kondabolu--director of The Problem with Apu--has thanked Azaria for his words about the controversy.

Free PS Plus Games For May 2018 Announced

By Chris Pereira on Apr 25, 2018 11:54 pm

With end of the month in sight, Sony has announced the next batch of free games coming for PlayStation Plus members. May will offer up the usual total of six games spread across PS4, PS3, and Vita. Thanks to Cross-Buy, you'll get up to three games on each platform.

As always, the most notably of the bunch come on PS4. With Detroit: Become Human's release approaching, developer Quantic Dream's previous game, Beyond: Two Souls, will be available for free. This was originally developed for PS3 before later being ported to PS4. Alongside it, Ubisoft's gorgeous platformer Rayman Legends will be playable for free.

PS3 owners will also have two games to claim: co-op action arcade game Eat Them and action RPG Risen 3: Titan Lords. Vita rounds out the list with two puzzle games: Furmins and King Oddball. The latter supports Cross Buy on both PS3 and PS4, so both of those consoles will have three games in all to grab.

If you haven't already done so, it's not too late to still claim April's free PS Plus games. Those include Mad Max and Trackmania Turbo on PS4. Adding them to your library will allow you to continue playing for as long as you're a Plus member. They'll be available to grab until Tuesday, May 1, when this new slate of games will replace it.

May 2018 PS Plus Games Lineup

PS4

  • Beyond: Two Souls
  • King Oddball
  • Rayman Legends

PS3

  • Eat Them
  • King Oddball
  • Risen 3: Titan Lords

Vita

  • Furmins
  • King Oddball

Will Destiny 2's Warmind DLC Be Enough To Bring Back Players?

By Alessandro Fillari on Apr 25, 2018 11:44 pm

In the months following its September launch, Destiny 2 developer Bungie has been in a tight spot trying to keep its community happy. Despite a solid start that showed stronger storytelling, quest variety, and sense of progression compared to the original, the sequel eventually fell into the same pitfall that its predecessor did: there's just not much to do in Destiny 2 if you're in it for the long-haul.

During the developer's recent livestream showcasing many of the points of interest in the upcoming Warmind expansion, they were frank about their attempts to address the problems regarding challenges, content diversity, and the steep grind the Destiny 2 community has been unhappy with--me included. While I really enjoyed Destiny 2 in its early months--even clearing the game's story and reaching Raid status with three characters--my enthusiasm for the game quickly dropped after Curse of Osiris.

As the May 8 release date for Warmind draws closer, it's worth considering whether Bungie's recent seasonal updates and the upcoming expansion can fix the game's issues relating to its grind and the resulting fatigue.

To start, let's take a look at the current state of Destiny 2. Since the release of December's Curse of Osiris DLC, which included forge weapons, new story missions, and a new Raid Lair (an additional area to explore in the Leviathan Raid), Bungie has introduced seasonal updates, offering scheduled tweaks to improve the core game. During the ongoing Season 2, quality-of-life updates such as new Crucible and Nightfall rewards, weapon and class rebalancing, Masterwork weapons, tweaks to Exotic drop rates, and changes to the sandbox exploration were introduced. Destiny 2 is all the better for these additions. However, the game still needs to make larger attempts to figure out how to combat the slump that makes it hard for players who may have fallen out with the game to want to come back.

One of the biggest problems with the original Destiny was that it was easy to exhaust much of the game's content given its relatively brisk campaign and focus on repeating missions and events. This was a symptom of the original game's growing identity, which it slowly developed over the course of its first year--resulting in the fantastic, game-changing expansion The Taken King. Destiny 2 has a greater sense of itself and is smart about how it manages to make things interesting during the early months, but it quickly falls victim to the recurring issue of player engagement, along with a series of poor matchmaking, quest design, and shallow endgame content.

One issue that's arguably worse in the sequel is that it's difficult to measure progress gained after reaching a certain point after the campaign's completion. While reaching Raid status was the benchmark, the pursuit of that often forces players to go through a series of hurdles to make it. Players will eventually find themselves having to repeat the same content with continually diminishing returns--made worse by some odd drop-rates and occurrences of repeat loot that Bungie have attempted to address with recent patches. While this is inevitable for many online games focusing on the grind, other titles have made that pursuit of fresh loot engaging in the long-term, but Destiny 2's approach to the endgame cycle makes for a largely futile and exhausting experience. When your efforts to progress seems to conflict with the game's grind--which is supposed to fun and challenging, but comes off as taxing--then it creates a sense of angst among the community, making them feel like their time isn't being well-spent.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7Gallery image 8

The Warmind expansion shows more of an earnest attempt on the developers' part to address these concerns. Focusing on a return trip to Mars, players will explore a new region called Hellas Basin and take on new missions and world events. In addition to new story characters to interact with, new bosses to fight, and new Exotics to find, the expansion also features a different approach to world quests. With Escalation Protocol, you'll be able to tackle a horde-mode style mission in the sandbox, taking on waves of Hive in order to reach the boss of the world event. Unlike other world events tied to specific schedules, Escalation Protocol is activated at any time after finishing the main story. Moreover, you can join other players who are engaged in their own events--even if you haven't reached the DLC campaign's conclusion.

While this side mission is a smaller remedy to Destiny 2's issues--and it's similar in design to The Taken King's Court of Oryx event--it still represents one of the more reassuring aspects of Warmind. As one of the key ways to acquire higher-end gear outside of the new Raid Lair, Escalation Protocol can be done at your leisure--which cuts back on general fatigue and frustration, making it feel like you have more control over what kind of rewards the game can offer you. This is a stark contrast to how gaining higher-end gear worked in Curse of Osiris, which placed its Lost Prophecies behind arbitrary gating. By leaning into systems that focused on grinding and sticking players in situations where they had to wait for stuff to happen, it personally made me less inclined to want to finish playing through more of the campaign's endgame content.

This also goes into the heart of the issue with Destiny 2, in that it has trouble respecting the average player's time. With Raids being commitments of several hours, PvP rewards being mostly middling and too dependant on whether you have a good team, and Nightfall and Heroic quests requiring players to repeat the same tired quests over and over, the game struggles with allowing meaningful gains to be made in short bursts. When the systems designed to keep players playing are too tiring to enjoy in the long-term, then it calls into question the structure that houses all the content you want to explore.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6

Warmind doesn't sound like a major revision, unfortunately. Having said that, what I find interesting about the expansion is that it feels awfully nostalgic of Destiny 1. With the return to Mars, the Rasputin AI finally being given some more attention, and Exotics like the Suros Regime making a comeback, the expansion seems to know how to perk up some returning players. But in truth, making Destiny 2 more enjoyable and less of a slog isn't just about adding in more weapons and armor, new areas to explore, and new story quests. It's about offering those great heroic moments and making them feel like they matter long after your quest's completion--as opposed to being just another moment in a long series of moments during a grind for better gear.

Destiny 2's new expansion seems like a step in the right direction. Not big steps, but movement towards progress all the same. With Season 3 starting on the same day as the DLC's launch, Bungie will be adding in more quality-of-life changes including additional vault space, private matches, an emote wheel, and Exotic Masterwork weapons. Destiny 2 is still a solid first-person shooter with some of the best-controlling action and gameplay in the genre, and while it feels like we're about due for this game to have its own Taken King-style expansion that fleshes out its core in the right ways, Warmind does show a greater awareness of what Destiny 2's issues are--and how it best tries to improve itself.

Avengers: Infinity War's Creators Address The Guardians Of The Galaxy Time Jump

By Michael Rougeau on Apr 25, 2018 10:53 pm

It's no secret that for Marvel's main cast of cosmic characters, Avengers: Infinity War will be set four years after the events of their last outing, Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The movie in which Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, Yondu, and Mantis faced off with Peter Quill's dad, Ego the Living Planet, took place just a few months after the original Guardians of the Galaxy, which was set in 2014.

That begs the question: How have Star-Lord and his crew changed in the four year gap between Guardians 2 and Infinity War? It's easy to glean a couple of superficial changes from Infinity War's trailers, including Quill's angular new facial hair, the Guardians' new ship, and the growth that Groot has naturally experienced. Luckily, GameSpot got to pose the question to Infinity War's writers and directors to find out more.

The main change for the Guardians, it seems, will indeed be Groot. "Groot is bigger," said Infinity War co-writer Stephen McFeely. He added that the rest of the crew may find it easier to communicate with the living tree: "They all seem to speak Groot."

"This is a new iteration of Groot, so there was also a process of finding what this voice of Groot is," said Infinity War co-director Anthony Russo.

"Yeah, his behavior's very different than in other movies," added his brother and directing partner, Joe Russo. "He's a bit of a dick."

They said Vin Diesel, who voices Groot, likes to do plenty of different takes for each reading of the character's singular line, "I am Groot."

Other than Groot hitting puberty, the directors and writers all agreed that we won't notice too many other big changes for the Guardians of the Galaxy. And there's a reason for that, according to Anthony Russo: "We don't like big story points to happen between the movies. If there's any big story point, we want it to happen within the parameter of the movie."

"Things have moved on a bit, but you don't want to move on so much that you seem like you don't know what characters you're writing," said Infinity War's other co-writer, Chris Markus. "You know, like, 'Now Quill is very sober and serious. The years have taken their toll on him.'" He said they tried not to think about the four-year gap while they were writing.

"I think it's just a continuation of their story," said Joe Russo. "Obviously, they've been working together for four years, so they're a lot more gelled."

"They have chemistry, and they've always had chemistry," McFeely added. "[But] nobody has a four-year-old."

Fortnite New Update 3.6 Adds Clinger Grenade; Patch Notes Released

By Oscar Dayus on Apr 25, 2018 10:52 pm

Fortnite has evolved once again today with the release of its latest update, version 3.6. The official patch notes reveal a new item, the Clinger, and much more available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile.

The Clinger is a new type of grenade available now that sticks to your environment or enemies and explodes a short time later. It's an uncommon item discoverable in Floor Loot, Supply Drops, Supply Llamas, and Treasure Chests, and it's available in both Battle Royale and Save the World.

No Caption Provided

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2

Save the World also gains a new weapon called the Noble Launcher, which you can charge up to inflict more damage on enemies. Note this weapon isn't available immediately--it's coming to Fortnite at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET on April 25 (1 AM BST / 10 AM AET on April 26). Meanwhile, in Battle Royale, some kind of event is seemingly about to happen.

A few other changes have been made to Fortnite with the latest update. Short fences will no longer block you from building structures, for example, while Supply drops now spawn twice as high and fall twice as fast. In terms of weapon tweaks, the minigun has seen its accuracy and damage increase and its recoil decrease; Remote Explosives, meanwhile, are now 40% less likely to appear in Treasure Chests. Read more in the full patch notes, via Epic, at the bottom of this article.

Fortnite's Week 9 challenges are available now, tasking you with some simple things--like dealing a certain amount of damage to opponents' structures--and some more complicated objectives such as visiting three Taco Shops. The game's week 10 challenges, meanwhile, have been leaked ahead of their full release, and they include tasks such as searching chests in Fatal Fields and racking up 250 headshots.

Weekly challenges, despite the name, are typically available for more than a week, although Week 10 is the final week of Season 3. Anyone who purchases the Battle Pass has the entirety of Season 3 to complete them. You can see all the Fortnite skins and rewards up for grabs with this Battle Pass to get an idea of what awaits if you dive in.

Whether or not you've purchased the Season 3 Battle Pass, you can log in to claim some free Battle Stars to help you earn some rewards: Epic Games recently granted some freebies to all players to make up for server issues. Meanwhile, it's removed the Guided Missile, which proved to be a contentious addition.

Fortnite Update's Emergency Broadcast Teases Something About To Happen

By Chris Pereira on Apr 25, 2018 10:46 pm

For some time now, Fortnite players have speculated that some big event is coming to Battle Royale. The theories have ranged from a meteor--seen in the sky above the game world--crashing into Tilted Towers to some kind of alien invasion. Something is definitely afoot, as evidenced by a new emergency broadcast that's now entered the game.

Official Twitter and Facebook accounts for Fortnite sent out the image below, which features the standard SMPTE color bars or bars and tone you've likely seen at some point, but with the outline of a dead llama laid over the top. There's no accompanying message with it, leaving fans to wonder what's going on.

This isn't just limited to social media. The same image has popped up in-game; as shared on Reddit, TV screens on the island are showing this with some accompanying static. Does this signal a coming alien invasion? Are players being warned about the meteor's imminent impact?

Nothing else has changed in-game since the release of the new 3.6 update. However, with Season 3 winding to a close next week, it seems all but assured that something is going to happen. Epic acknowledged fans' speculation by adding some small details to Tilted Towers in the new patch, and there's reason to think something space-centric is coming. Aside from the meteor that's been visible in the sky, many of the Season 3 Battle Pass items are space-themed.

Fans have generated theories about when the next stage of the meteor event will happen, only to be let down time and again. With Epic offering up something much more direct like this, though, it seems like it's just a matter of time until we find out what's next for Battle Royale and perhaps Season 4.

God Of War PS4 Armor: Best Epic, Legendary, And Rare Sets

By Matt Espineli on Apr 25, 2018 10:45 pm

The latest God of War takes a different approach from past entries in the series. This time around, the game introduces RPG mechanics, allowing you equip a variety of gear that enhance a set of stats and even offer special perks. Much like the recent Monster Hunter World, your progression is tied not to experience points, but the new armor and weapons you're able to acquire and craft.

The armor you collect comes in a variety of different styles, shapes, types, and sizes. While each armor set you has its own specific bonuses that suit different playstyles, they also offer different looks for Kratos. To give you an idea of what kind of armor sets you'll be able to use once you've progressed far enough in the game, we've compiled across the three armor piece categories some of the best looking and most powerful sets. Click from the images below to see each piece and its respective stats.

It's worth noting that many of these armor sets can be purchased at the blacksmith shop. Each set becomes available as you progress through the game, often unlocking in the shop after a key moment in the story. Some sets can also be acquired by exploring and opening up chests, while others can be unlocked by completing specific favor sidequests. For example, both Brok's and Syndri's special armor sets are unlocked after completing the "Hail to the King" sidequest.

Xbox One Game Pass Lineup For May Includes Another Big Launch, State Of Decay 2

By Chris Pereira on Apr 25, 2018 10:15 pm

Microsoft's Netflix-style subscription service for Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass, is set to enjoy another big month in May. Alongside the standard additions we've come to expect, two different titles will be available through Game Pass on the same day they're released for sale.

One of those two is State of Decay 2, which is among Xbox One's bigger exclusives of the year so far. The open-world survival game looks to build on its predecessor with, among other things, new co-op multiplayer. The game will be available on both Xbox One and PC for Game Pass subscribers, and it actually supports cross-platform multiplayer between the two for up to four players. It launches on May 22.

The other game making its debut on Game Pass on its release day is Laser League. It's a new arcade-style multiplayer shooter from Roll7, the developer of the excellent OlliOlli skateboarding games. It's been available in early access on Steam since last year, but it leaves that state and arrives on consoles (both Xbox One and PS4) on May 10. It'll be available for Game Pass owners on Xbox One on that day.

May's other additions all arrive right on May 1 and include a nice mixture of genres. There's the great co-op cooking game, Overcooked; classic platformer Sonic & Knuckles; puzzle game Unmechanical: Extended; open-world shooter Homefront: The Revolution; and simulation game The Escapists.

The last of the bunch is a bit of an unusual one--PES 2018, the Pro Evolution Soccer series' most recent entry, will also join the lineup on May 1. Whereas it's understood that third-party Game Pass games aren't necessarily in the library forever, we know exactly when PES 2018 leaves: August 31. That's roughly a few weeks before we'd expect PES 2019 to arrive.

You can check out the full lineup of May additions below, or see what was added in April. While we don't know what the future will bring, we do know that Microsoft's first-party titles will continue to release through Game Pass right on release day, including this year's Crackdown 3.

Han Solo Spin-off Star Is Signed On For More Than One Star Wars Movie

By Dan Auty on Apr 25, 2018 10:07 pm

From Daisy Ridley and John Boyega to Adam Driver and Felicity Jones, a host of young stars have joined the Star Wars universe in recent years. But while all of these actors were playing new characters, Alden Ehrenreich has a much tougher job; as the star of next month's Solo: A Star Wars Story, he is playing the younger version of one of the franchise's most famous characters. Ehrenreich has now revealed that he's signed on to appear as Han Solo in more than one Star Wars movie.

In an interview with Esquire, Ehrenreich let slip that his contract is in fact for three movies, before admitting that "I don't know if that's officially public." While it's not surprising that Lucasfilm has signed the actor on for more than one film, this is the first indication that the studio is considering further adventures of the young Solo.

Elsewhere in the interview, Ehrenreich spoke about the firing of Solo's original directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller. They left the movie during production in June last year, following rumors of conflicts with Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy. Ehrenreich confirmed that Lord and Miller's directing approach was a lot loose than that of replacement director Ron Howard.

"They had a different style than Ron in terms of the way we were working," he said. "From the first screen test on, we played around with it a lot. We tried a lot of different things, rethinking behind the scenes. That was yielding a different movie than the other factions wanted. I knew what I was doing, but in terms of what that adds up to, you're so in the dark as an actor. You don't know what it's shaping up to be, how they're editing it, so it's kind of impossible without having seen those things to know what the difference [of opinion] was, or exactly what created those differences."

Ehrenreich also states that it was Lord and Miller themselves that told him they had left the movie. "They said, 'We were let go,' and that's it. They had mentioned there were some disagreements before, but they didn't get into it. They wished me the best with the rest of the movie.

"On a personal level, it felt emotional, for them to be going after we'd set out on that course together. Because I spent a lot of time with them, and we had a really good relationship--they also cast me. But I think at that point, they were kind of on board with [the decision], too. Like, 'This is what's happening.' That's not what they said to me, but that was the vibe I got."

Solo: A Star Wars Story also stars Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca and Donald Glover as Lando, plus Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke. It hits theaters on May 25, 2018. The second Solo trailer was released last month.

In related news, it was announced in February that Jungle Book director Jon Favreau is developing a new live-action Star Wars TV show. The series is set to premiere on Disney's streaming platform, which launches next year. This is in addition to the two new Star Wars movie series in the work, one from Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, the other overseen by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Venom Movie's New Poster Makes Tom Hardy Very Creepy

By Chris E. Hayner on Apr 25, 2018 09:30 pm

As it turns out, that new trailer isn't the only bit of the Venom movie fans are getting a taste of. Sony, which is developing a slate of movies based on characters from the Spider-Man comics, had also released a poster for the upcoming film--and it's a creepy one.

In the image, which you can take a look at below, Tom Hardy, who plays mild-mannered journalist Eddie Brock in the movie, is mid-way through his transformation into Venom. That pesky alien symbiote just can't get enough of him as he becomes one of the deadliest looking anti-heroes--in case the trailer didn't make it super clear, he is definitely an anti-hero--ever committed to film.

No Caption Provided

While the trailer offered a first look at the character's design in the film, unlike the original Venom teaser, the detail on this poster goes a long way in showing how close they're sticking to the design first introduced in the comics. The design is also taking a smart step away from the only other live-action version of the character, which appeared in 2007's Spider-Man 3.

In that film, the Venom suit took inspiration from Spider-Man's costume, including its webbing design. Without Spider-Man in these new movies, it makes sense to shy away from those links. However, it will be interesting to see if the movie mentions the beloved web-slinger in some fashion. While this film doesn't exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside the current Spider-Man (Tom Holland), having a Venom movie in a world where the character doesn't at least exist somewhere is very strange.

Whatever the case, comic book fans are in for something very different from Venom, which also stars Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, and Woody Harrelson. It hits theaters on October 5.

The First Avengers Movie Almost Included Two Surprising Marvel Characters

By Chris E. Hayner on Apr 25, 2018 09:28 pm

With Avengers: Infinity War ready to stampede into theaters with the biggest collection of Marvel Cinematic Universe superheroes yet, it's hard to believe that it was only six years ago that Marvel's The Avengers brought Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and the rest of the gang together for the first time. Interestingly, though, fans almost saw a very different version of the 2012 film.

Given how early in the MCU Marvel's Avengers came--writer-director Joss Whedon started on his script before Thor or Captain America: The First Avenger hit theaters--the plan for the superhero team-up changed quite a bit. "We went through a lot of insane iterations of what might be," Whedon tells Thrillist in a wide-ranging oral history of the film. "At the very beginning, I wrote entire drafts that had no bearing on what I would eventually film."

Should any of those drafts become the one that was used for filming, Avengers would have been a very different movie. For instance, what if it hadn't featured Black Widow? "There was a moment where we thought we weren't gonna have Scarlett [Johansson], and so I wrote a huge bunch of pages starring The Wasp," he reveals.

As it stands, it wasn't until Ant-Man in 2015 that the idea of The Wasp entered the MCU picture. With Ant-Man and The Wasp set for theaters in July, it'll be the first starring role for the character--who will be portrayed by Evangeline Lilly. Of note, Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) teased the possibility of Michelle Pfeiffer appearing in Avengers: Infinity War as the original Wasp, so perhaps the superhero will get her due in an Avenger movie anyway.

Another unknown at the time was how audiences would respond to the villainous Loki (Tom Hiddleston). While he's clearly gone on to become one of the MCU's most beloved characters, this was before anyone had seen Thor. That left Avengers to pin its hopes on an unproven baddie. Whedon had a solution, though.

"I also worried that one British character actor was not enough to take on Earth's mightiest heroes and that we'd feel like we were rooting for the overdog," he says. "So I wrote a huge draft with Ezekiel Stane, Obadiah Stane's son, in it." Obidiah, played by Jeff Bridges, was the villain in the first Iron Man movie. His son would most certainly have an issue with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), but seemingly everyone involved knew that would not be the best fit for the movie.

"[Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige] looked at it and said, 'Yeah, no,'" Whedon remembers. "[Marvel Studios co-president] Louis D'Esposito actually at that point said, 'Yeah, Kevin, it's all wrong, but look how good it is. Like this is really good wrong.' That was a nice boost."

Of course, in the end, Loki became a fan-favorite character and a very worthy villain for the Avengers--one that's still chugging along. And it's hard to argue that the final script Whedon and Marvel settled on was anything less than great. The movie made over $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office, while the MCU keeps getting bigger and better. Avengers: Infinity War is in theaters on April 27.

Avengers: Infinity War Video Includes Easter Egg And Thanos Jokes

By Chris E. Hayner on Apr 25, 2018 09:25 pm

Nothing shakes Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), not even the threat of wiping out the entire universe. At least, that's the picture being painted in the latest clip from Avengers: Infinity War, which debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

In it, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) tells Tony everything he needs to know about Thanos (Josh Brolin), and none of it is good news. "He's a plague, Tony. He invades planets, takes what he wants, and wipes out half of the population," Banner tells his fellow Avenger. "He sent Loki. The attack on New York, that's him." In true Stark fashion, his only response is to mock the way Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) talks and wonder they can't just stick the Infinity Stones he's after "down the garbage disposal."

The scene also includes an Easter egg that some fans might miss on their first viewing. Strange chastises Tony for leaning on the Cauldron of the Cosmos. While that already sounds like something he'd have in his Sanctum Sanctorum, it also has a history in Marvel Comics. The item appeared in issues of Man-Thing and Marvel Two-In-One, after first popping up in a 1981 installment of Marvel Team-up. It's played for laughs in the trailer but is still exciting to see.

This situation is no laughing matter, though, and that's something even Tony Stark understands. The threat Thanos poses is enough to draw together the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe of superheroes--which may or may not include Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd)--as they fight to keep those stones away from the Mad Titan.

Whether the heroes are going to walk away victorious remains to be seen, but based on GameSpot's Avengers: Infinity War review, this is certainly a movie that meets the hype. Luckily, you won't have to wait long to find out yourself, as this next massive chapter in the MCU arrives in theaters on April 27.

Excellent PS4 Humble Bundle Gets You A Bunch Of Games For Cheap

By Chris Reed on Apr 25, 2018 09:17 pm

Capcom and Sega have teamed up to offer a surprisingly great Humble Bundle that should appeal to just about any PS4 owner. And if you have a PS3 and a PS Vita, so much the better. As always with Humble Bundles, you can spend any amount you choose, starting with $1 to get the initial tier of games. Nabbing games in the higher tiers costs more money, but it's always significantly less than you'd have to spend to buy the games on their own. This Humble Bundle deal ends May 8.

By paying $1 or more, you get Dead Rising on PS4, Crazy Taxi on PS3, and Dustforce and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz on PS Vita. Capcom's Dead Rising, which originally came out in 2006, is this tier's highlight, if only because it's made for the only console that you probably still play. It puts you in a mall and has you try to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Moving on up, if you spend more than the average amount Humble Bundle buyers have spent, you get access to six additional games, four of which are for PS4. They include Resident Evil, Mega Man Legacy Collection, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, and Alien: Isolation. Now we're cooking with fire. The first three are classics, while Alien: Isolation is an often-overlooked survival horror gem. You also get the PS3 games Binary Domain and Sonic Generations, as well as sizable discounts on newer PS4 games (detailed below).

If you drop $15 on the bundle, you'll also get Dead Rising 2 and Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, both for PS4. The former is another fine zombie-killing affair, while the latter is a refreshingly unique strategy game that mixes turn-based combat with third-person shooting.

All told, this is a killer deal, regardless of what tier you choose to come in on. Click here to visit the Humble Bundle page.

10 Best-Selling Games During March 2018 In The US Revealed

By Chris Pereira on Apr 25, 2018 08:53 pm

The NPD Group has released its latest report, this one covering March 2018 in the US. As always, this accounts for new, physical sales of video games, along with a selection of digital sales; in other words, it's not a complete picture of the US video game industry. Nonetheless, it does provide us with some insight, including strong starts for the month's biggest releases, Far Cry 5 and Sea of Thieves.

Ubisoft's new open-world shooter unsurprisingly came out as the month's top-selling game, but its performance was strong enough to make it the best-selling game of the year so far. NPD notes it set a new record for launch month sales for the Far Cry franchise; the amount spent on the game almost doubled the previous record holder, Far Cry 3.

Sea of Thieves came in as the No. 2 game for the month, which is arguably a surprise--it was the first big game to launch day and date through Xbox Game Pass, which is not accounted for in NPD's numbers. Despite that, it sold well enough to become the eighth best-selling game of the year so far. Going back to 1995, when the NPD began tracking, it was also the best-selling launch month for any game developed by Rare.

MLB 18: The Show also got off to a nice start, coming in as the No. 3 game and setting a new series record for launch month sales. The same was also true for Kirby Star Allies, the No. 4 game in March.

The remainder of the top sellers--which extends out to a top 20--is largely comprised of the usual suspects. Grand Theft Auto V's incredible roll continues (it was No. 5), while Monster Hunter World (No. 10) is still pushing units, though it's now the second best-selling game of 2018, thanks to Far Cry 5.

Software sales across PC, console, and handheld were down 10% year-over-year to $613 million, but so far this year, sales are actually up 8% thanks to Switch (which didn't launch until March of 2017).

Hardware sales saw a more significant drop, dipping 32% to $331 million, though last year represented a tough comparison with the Switch's release. Year-to-date, hardware sales are up 13% thanks to Xbox One growth. PS4 was the best-selling console overall during the month and for the year so far.

Read on for the full software top sellers lists, which, bear in mind, don't all include digital sales data.

Fortnite Mobile Is Shaping Up To Be A Huge Success

By Patrick Faller on Apr 25, 2018 08:11 pm

Fortnite may have debuted on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but the new mobile version of the game is grabbing headlines for its incredible sales figures. According to mobile stats website Sensor Tower, Fortnite on iOS has already grossed more than $25 million in its first 30 days of availability. Fortnite has yet to release on Android devices, but the website predicts, if the Android version releases by this summer, mobile versions of the game could gross more than $500 million this year.

Fortnite Mobile started as an invite-only iOS test, but then released for all iPhone and iPad users at the start of April. Sensor Tower reports average daily player spending in the game has already topped a total $1 million (despite the game being free to download and play); second only to Netflix on the US App Store. You can see how the game stacks up to other top iOS apps in Sensor Towers' chart below.

Regardless of when it's released, Fortnite's sales will undoubtably continue to skyrocket once the Android version is released. This is a safe bet, especially given that a China release of Fortnite may be in the future, and China is a huge consumer of Android devices (although there's no official word on which platforms Chinese players will get Fortnite on).

In other Fortnite news, a new set of challenges is now live for Battle Pass holders. It includes challenges like dealing a certain amount of damage to opponents' structures, building 250 of your own structures, or visiting three Taco Shops in a single match. Check out more info on Fortnite's update v3.5.2, including details on the game's latest 50v50 mode.

Dark Souls Remastered Trailer Shows Off Its Fearsome Bosses

By Kevin Knezevic on Apr 25, 2018 08:09 pm

From Software's celebrated action RPG Dark Souls will soon arrive on a new generation of consoles. The game's Remastered edition launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC in May, and ahead of its release, Bandai Namco has shared a new trailer that reintroduces fans to some of the threats that await.

Like its spiritual predecessor, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls is renowned for its deliberate combat system and unforgiving difficulty. The game is set in Lordran, a crumbling kingdom inhabited by gargoyles, wraiths, and all manner of horrific enemies. The new trailer that Bandai Namco shared showcases a number of the monstrous bosses and foes that lurk in Lordran; you can take a look at it above.

Coinciding with the new trailer, Dark Souls Remastered is now available to pre-order digitally on PS4 and Xbox One. Meanwhile, PC players who've purchased Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition from Steam will get 50% off of Dark Souls Remastered. Beginning May 8, the Prepare to Die Edition will be de-listed from Valve's storefront; however, everyone who has purchased it will still be able to re-download and play it.

Dark Souls Remastered launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 25. Along with touched up visuals, it features an assortment of quality-of-life changes. Ahead of the game's release, Bandai Namco will hold a network test for PS4 and Xbox One versions. The publisher hasn't announced the date and time for the network test, but it promises to share those details "as soon as possible."

Dark Souls Remastered is also in development for Nintendo Switch. That version was likewise originally slated to release on May 25, but it and the corresponding Solaire of Astora Amiibo have been delayed to this summer. Consequentially, Dark Souls Remastered's Switch network test has also been postponed.

Two Big Nintendo Switch Games Get Major Updates This Week

By Kevin Knezevic on Apr 25, 2018 08:09 pm

It's a busy week for Nintendo Switch owners. On top of this week's new releases (headlined by South Park: The Fractured But Whole), Nintendo will roll out major updates for two of its first-party titles over the next few days.

First, Nintendo's colorful online shooter Splatoon 2 received its big 3.0 update on April 24. The update was first announced during March's Nintendo Direct presentation, and along with more than 100 new and returning pieces of gear, it introduces X Rank to the game, which Nintendo describes as "an extremely challenging Ranked Battle experience targeting the best-of-the-best players."

Players who've reached S+10 rank in Splatoon 2 will automatically be registered as X rank following the update. After achieving X rank, players will be battling each month for an X Power level. This Power level will reset on the final day of the month, and those who fall below a certain point threshold at the time of the reset will drop back down to S+9. The 500 players with the highest X Power level for each of Splatoon 2's four Ranked modes will be announced on the SplatNet 2 app.

Alongside the 3.0 update, Nintendo is bringing back another classic stage from the original Splatoon: Camp Triggerfish. Additionally, four more weapons arrive in the game tonight: the Neo Splash-o-matic (with Burst Bombs and the Suction-Bomb Launcher); the Foil Squeezer (with Splat Bombs and the Bubble Blower); the New Squiffer (with Autobombs and the Baller); and the Glooga Dualies Deco (with the Splash Wall and Baller).

Going forward, Nintendo says it will add several new weapons to the game in a single monthly batch as opposed to its previous weekly rollout schedule. As always, players will be able to purchase the weapons with in-game currency from the Ammo Knights shop. You can find the full patch notes for Splatoon 2's 3.0 update on Nintendo's website.

Following the Splatoon 2 update, Nintendo will release the 1.4.0 update for Monolith Soft's open-world Switch RPG, Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The update is slated to roll out around the world on April 27 and introduces two new Rare Blades to the game: Poppibuster and T-elos, both of which you can see below.

Poppibuster is only available to those who've purchased Xenoblade Chronicles 2's expansion pass and can be obtained by completing a specific sidequest. "While Poppi can only be wielded by Tora, Poppibuster can team up with other characters too," Nintendo said on Twitter.

T-elos, meanwhile, is available to all players for free as part of the 1.4.0 update, provided you've completed the game. Like another of Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Rare Blades, KOS-MOS, she hails from Monolith Soft's previous RPG series, Xenosaga. T-elos can be acquired by resonating Core Crystals, just as most other Blades in the game, although Monolith says the odds of obtaining her will be very high.

New Pokemon Go Bonuses Available For A Limited Time

By Kevin Knezevic on Apr 25, 2018 08:07 pm

Earth Day took place on April 22, and Pokemon Go developer Niantic held a special Clean Up event on the holiday to encourage players to go out and pick up refuse around their community. Now that the event is over, Niantic has announced a special bonus that players can get in the game for a limited time.

One of the incentives for participating in the Pokemon Go Clean Up event was to unlock bonuses in the game. Depending on how many players took part in the event, the developer would offer a different amount of Stardust for capturing certain types of Pokemon. If 1,500 trainers participated, everyone would get double the usual amount of Stardust; if 3,000 participated, everyone would get triple.

Now that the event has concluded, Niantic has revealed that more than 4,000 players took part in the Clean Up event. As a result, players will earn triple the normal amount of Stardust for capturing Ground-, Water-, and Grass-type Pokemon for the next few days. The bonus was originally slated to last for 48 hours, but since so many players participated in the Clean Up event, Niantic is extending the bonuses until April 30.

The next real-world event scheduled for Pokemon Go is May's Community Day. That takes place during a three-hour window of time on Saturday, May 19, and it likewise offers triple Stardust for capturing Pokemon. Niantic has yet to reveal what exclusive move players will be able to get during the event, but the featured Pokemon this time will be the popular Red and Blue starter Charmander.

In the meantime, players still have a little more time to catch Pokemon Go's current Legendary Pokemon, Latios and Latias. The twin Eon Pokemon are each available in a different region until May 8; Latios can be found in North America, South America, and Africa, while Latias is appearing across Europe and Asia. On May 8, the two Pokemon will trade regions, where they will remain until June 5.

PUBG Getting Some Big Weapon Balance Updates On PC

By Kevin Knezevic on Apr 25, 2018 08:07 pm

Developer PUBG Corp. continues to fine tune PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on PC. On top of the forthcoming map select feature and new Codename: Savage map, the studio is working on an assortment of balance adjustments for weapons and attachments.

While PUBG Corp. didn't outline exactly which weapons will see tweaks and to what extent they'll be changed, it seems the balance adjustments will be wide-reaching. The reason for these changes, PUBG Corp. says, is to further level the playing field and ensure that no specific weapon feels "objectively better" than the others.

"According to our research, only a few specific types of weapons (ARs) are used in most situations," the developer wrote in a post on Steam. "We believe the choice about which gun to use should be based on personal preference and its effectiveness in any given situation, rather than simply 'which gun is strongest.'"

Alongside the weapon balance tweaks, PUBG Corp. also plans to make changes to weapon attachments. These, likewise, weren't further detailed, although the developer says the goal is ultimately to give players "a wider array of attachment options so you can choose one that best fits your combat situation (rather than any one 'best' attachment)."

Finally, PUBG Corp. says it will also make "some changes" to the level three helmet, which protects players from what would otherwise be a fatal headshot. "We don't want luck alone to determine who gets items like this, so we're removing it from the normal loot spawn tables and limiting it to care packages only," the developer said.

PUBG Corp. hasn't announced when it will introduce these balance changes, but they'll first be rolled out onto the game's test server. Exact changes will be outlined in patch notes when they're ready to be implemented in the live game. PUBG's Codename: Savage map is also still in the process of being tested. The developers recently added new areas to it, with underground caves also on the way.

Monster Hunter World's Next Street Fighter Armor Quest Dated

By Kevin Knezevic on Apr 25, 2018 08:06 pm

The second round of Monster Hunter World's Street Fighter crossover event is starting soon. This time, players will be able to embark on a Challenge Quest to acquire a set of Sakura armor, and as before, it will only be available in the game for a limited time.

The Sakura gear can be acquired through a three-part Challenge Quest called Empress in Full Bloom. The quests kicks off on May 3 at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET (1 AM BST on May 4) and runs until the same time on May 10.

Capcom still hasn't detailed the particulars of the Challenge Quests, but they take place in the Arena, with the objective being to slay a Pink Rathian. Players will need to have a Hunter Rank of 12 or higher to be eligible for the quests.

The Sakura gear is a full armor set that changes your hunter's appearance to that of the Street Fighter veteran. This marks the second set of Street Fighter armor that players will be able to acquire in Monster Hunter World; earlier this year, Capcom held an Event Quest called Down the Dark, Muddy Path, which rewarded players with materials to craft a Ryu costume.

The Street Fighter Challenge Quests arrive on the same day that Monster Hunter World's first Siege--a new, raid-like quest type for up to 16 players--ends. The target of the first Siege is the new Elder Dragon Kulve Taroth, which arrived alongside the game's big 3.0 update. We've put together a guide on how to get the new Kulve Taroth armor and weapons.

After Less Than Six Months, Capcom Shutting Puzzle Fighter To Focus On Dead Rising

By Kevin Knezevic on Apr 25, 2018 08:05 pm

Capcom is shutting down services for its recent mobile game, Puzzle Fighter. The publisher announced that it will remove the puzzle game from app stores on July 1, while the option to spend money on in-app purchases will be disabled on April 23.

Servers for Puzzle Fighter will continue to operate for a few more weeks after the title is de-listed, but they will be shut down on July 31, after which point the game will no longer be playable. In the meantime, Capcom is offering 10,000 gems--Puzzle Fighter's in-game currency--to all players as a thank-you gift.

The company is also releasing Puzzle Fighter's upcoming characters and stages for free. Two new characters, Regina and Dr. Wily, will be added to the game later today, April 20, while Ada Wong and a pair of stages--Darminor and Uroboros Laboratory--arrive on April 23.

Puzzle Fighter officially launched for iOS and Android devices in November 2017. It was developed by Capcom Vancouver, the studio best known for the Dead Rising series. According to the publisher, the zombie series factored into the decision to shut down Puzzle Fighter.

"As the studio is dedicating its focus to our flagship Dead Rising franchise, we have decided to sunset Puzzle Fighter," Capcom explained in a post on the Capcom Unity blog. "We appreciate the fans who have supported Puzzle Fighter until this point. We thank you for playing the game and hope to ensure your remaining time with Puzzle Fighter is an enjoyable one."

Earlier this year, Capcom Vancouver was hit by a wave of layoffs that impacted "approximately 30% of the studio." Capcom hasn't formally announced a new Dead Rising game, but most recent release in the series, Dead Rising 4: Frank's Big Package, launched for PS4 in December and packaged 2016's Dead Rising 4 with all of its DLC and new bonus content.

Fortnite Challenges (Week 1-9): Season 3 Objectives And How To Complete Them

By Chris Pereira on Apr 25, 2018 08:00 pm

Season 3 of Fortnite: Battle Royale is ongoing, and each week brings a new set of challenges for players to complete. There's a free set of objectives for everyone to take on over the course of the season, but only those who purchase the Season 3 Battle Pass get to deal with the additional weekly challenges. These present players with specific goals to target and offer a path to quickly level up the Battle Pass and acquire its many rewards.

Although challenges are referred to as weekly, you have more than a week to complete them--they're available until Season 3 concludes at the end of April. As such, it's not too late to pick up the Battle Pass now and go back to complete challenges from past weeks.

Many of these challenges are relatively straightforward; you'll need to secure kills in certain locations or with specific weapon types. Others are things you'll likely do without even trying, like reviving teammates. Below, you'll find a complete list of every weekly challenge that's been rolled out so far along with links to some of our guides that will help you to deal with those trickier objectives. We'll continue to update this as more challenges are announced over the course of the season.

Get Ready For Avengers: Infinity War -- Marvel Cinematic Universe Recap

By Chris E. Hayner on Apr 25, 2018 07:59 pm

With 18 films over the last decade, there is a lot to remember of the Marvel Cinematic Universe before Avengers: Infinity War hits the big screen. An entire universe of superheroes has been born in the movies. Now, for the first time, they're all banding together to fight a common threat--you can read our review here.

Where did those characters all leave off, though? Take a look at GameSpot's recap of the Marvel Cinematic Universe above, as we delve into the whereabouts of everyone that's been revealed thus far. Most of the MCU's main character's were last seen in Captain America: Civil War, when the Avengers were split down the middle in a dispute between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans). It leaves the status of the super team in question as Thanos (Josh Brolin) comes to Earth in Infinity War.

Meanwhile, Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) are still in space in the aftermath of Thor: Ragnarok, not unlike the Guardians of the Galaxy. As that's happening, T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) is introducing the world to how powerful his home country of Wakanda is, after the events of Black Panther. The technological advancements the country has made due to its rich vibranium sources are bound to have a big impact on the Avengers going forward.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, though. With so many characters to keep track of--including Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly)--Avengers: Infinity War promises to be the most action-packed and busy MCU movie yet.

After you take a look at the video above, make sure to check out GameSpot's comprehensive coverage of the film, from the locations of the Infinity Stones to which Avengers we're expecting to die. Avengers: Infinity War is in theaters on April 27.

Week 6 Fortnite Challenges: Search Between The Metal Bridge, Three Billboards, And Crashed Bus

By Chris Pereira on Apr 25, 2018 07:59 pm

Week 6 challenges in Fortnite: Battle Royale are live for Battle Pass owners. As usual, there's an array of objectives to complete, some of which are not especially straightforward based on the description alone. One such example involves searching for something "between a Metal Bridge, Three Billboards, and a Crashed Bus." Here's how to find that and tips on dealing with some of the other challenges this week.

Provided you're not intimately familiar with the map, seeking out the landmarks in the aforementioned challenge could be very difficult. That's especially true when everyone else on the map is trying to kill you--and might be worried you'll do the same while they try to track down this location. Luckily, it's not all that difficult--you can see the exact spot in the video above. You'll need to either parachute from the bus or build up to the top of a small mountain located between Shifty Shafts and Salty Springs. It's just northeast of a bridge near Shifty Shafts. However you get to the top, you'll see a Battle Star item there for you to pick up (done the same way you'd open a chest). Do that, and you're done.

In the video, we also run you through another of the less obvious challenges, which tasks you to "summit different Mountains Peaks." Again, this involves reaching the top of mountains, either by building your way to the top or by parachuting down to one at the start of a match. Only certain areas count--you'll find many of them in the western half of the map, and we highlight several of them in the video. Once you reach the top, you'll need to look for a flag icon. Simply approach it and your banner will pop up in its place, indicating that your progress has registered. Fortunately, unlike the recent "visit three gas stations" challenge, this does not need to be done in a single match.

This week's remaining challenges are more straightforward, such as searching chests in Anarchy Acres. Your best bet, as always, is to check the attics of buildings, as that's often where chests are hidden. If you're lucky, you'll happen upon a Cozy Campfire, an explosive weapon, or an SMG in the process, which will allow you to make progress toward three of this week's other challenges.

You can see all of the Week 6 challenges below, or see every Fortnite Season 3 challenge in our roundup. Completing challenges helps to level up your Battle Pass more quickly, which in turn lets you unlock the variety of cool Season 3 skins and items that are available. The Battle Pass is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile, though you'll need to purchase it for 950 V-Bucks.

Fortnite Week 6 Challenges

  • Deal damage with SMGs to opponents (500) -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Search Chests in Anarchy Acres (7) -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Place a Cozy Campfire -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Summit different Mountains Peaks (10) -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Hard: Search between a Metal Bridge, Three Billboards, and a Crashed Bus -- 10 Battle Stars
  • Hard: Explosive Weapon Eliminations (3) -- 10 Battle Stars
  • Hard: Eliminate opponents in Retail Row (3) -- 10 Battle Stars

By Chris Reed on Apr 25, 2018 07:57 pm

Here's some good news for anyone who likes having joy and excitement in their life: Peggle is free to download for PC on Origin. It normally sells for $5, but right now, for a limited time, you can get it to keep and play every day forever. So hurry to the Origin Store to download your copy now.

What's the big deal about Peggle? If you haven't played this marvelous and highly addictive game, it's like a psychedelically-enhanced version of pachinko. You aim and shoot a ball from the top of the screen. The ball bounces and ricochets between colorful pegs on its way to the bottom. Each peg it touches disappears. Clear out all the orange pegs, and you can proceed to the next level.

It's a wonderfully simple setup that combines skill and luck in equal measure. Each new world has its own "teacher" who grants you a limited power that can help you clear pegs in all sorts of creative new ways. Throw in a bunch of optional challenges, and you have a game you can spend many pleasant hours trying to complete.

Whether you've played it before or not, Peggle is always worth a download when it's free. Head over to the Origin Store to add it to your collection before the price goes back up.

Fortnite: Dance Floors, 3 Boats Map Locations - Week 8 Challenges Guide

By Chris Pereira on Apr 25, 2018 07:57 pm

Week 8 challenges in Fortnite: Battle Royale involve several objectives that you may need some assistance in completing. There are three challenges in particular--involving dance floors, three boats, and vending machines--that are not immediately obvious based on their descriptions. Here's how to tackle those, as well as the remaining Week 8 challenges, for Battle Pass owners on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile.

The most intriguing-sounding of the bunch is the one that tells you to dance on different Dance Floors. These aren't something we've seen in the game previously--they've just been added as part of the new 3.5 update. This challenge wants you to find them and perform a dance emote while standing on top of them. You'll need to do this with three dance floors in all, though you can accomplish this across multiple matches. So far, we've only found three dance floors total; you can find them by heading to the southeastern corner of Flush Factory, grid B4 (west-southwest of Pleasant Park), and grid I6 (just east of Retail Row). The dance floors are located on the ground floor of newly added buildings. The locations are pictured in the map below, along with another challenge's location.

The trickiest of the challenges that Epic labels as being Hard has you search between Three Boats. As has been the case with similar objectives in the past, you don't get a treasure map or anything here--you simply have to recognize the landmarks that it's referring to. If you assume boats would be at Loot Lake, you're correct. The Battle Star you have to collect is located at the end of a small dock on the southeastern corner of Loot Lake's island. You can land right there at the start of a match and pick it up (by holding the same key/button used to open chests)--just be aware that you won't actually see it until you're very close to the ground.

Week 8 also brings a challenge to use a Vending Machine; these were added in the 3.4 content update. Visit one, and you're able to exchange building materials you've collected for items. These don't always show up in the same spots, but there are areas where they frequently show up. You can see those in our Vending Machine locations guide.

The remaining Week 8 challenges are less complex, though some of them come down to circumstance. You'll need to deal 500 damage to enemies with an explosive weapon, which can be done with grenade-type items or launchers. (However, you'll have to do it without one option, as the Guided Missile has been disabled temporarily.) Searching chests in Snobby Shores will involve simply spending some time in the area and exploring thoroughly--a good strategy, as always, is to check in the attics of buildings. Make sure to use an assault rifle as soon as you get one to get your three Assault Rifle eliminations, and if possible, do so in Dusty Depot, where you need to rack up three eliminations. All four of these might be easiest in solo playlists, where players can't be revived and you don't have teammates hogging any weapons.

Completing challenges rewards you with a specific number of Battle Stars--either five (for normal ones) or 10 (for Hard ones). These in turn allow you to level up your Battle Pass more quickly, which in turn unlocks Season 3 skins and rewards.
