Just Cause 4 has now leaked twice ahead of E3 2018. An ad recently served through Steam (via Kotaku) shows promotional art with a call to pre-order. This is the second retailer listing hinting at the existence of the game, after Walmart spilled the beans on several games with placeholder pages for several unannounced games last month.
Clicking to pre-order reportedly bounced users back to the main Steam page, and the ad has seemingly been removed. We expect to see it announced at the showcase for Square Enix, the current publisher of the Just Cause series. That presentation will take place on Monday, June 11 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST (3 AM AET on June 12).
Just Cause 3 was released in 2015, and received a mixed reception from critics on GameSpot sister site Metacritic. In the GameSpot review, Mike Mahardy called it a "stunning display of cause and effect" thanks to its destructible environments and toolset.
The near-confirmation of Just Cause 4 gives further credence to the Walmart leak, which has already struck gold with more than one confirmation. The biggest surprise was Rage 2, which Bethesda playfully responded to in cheeky fashion. We also now know that a new Assassin's Creed (named Odyssey) and Lego DC Super Villains were accurate as well.
Various others in the Walmart leak haven't panned out yet, but may well in the future. Unconfirmed games include a new Splinter Cell, Borderlands 3, Gears of War 5, and Dragon Quest 2. Others seem less likely, like "Forza Horizons 5"--even though the name of the series is "Horizon" and it would be on its fourth game.
While trying out Anthem, I had to keep reminding myself that I was playing a BioWare game. It's the first new IP from the veteran RPG developer in a decade, and although it falls into that particular style of role-playing and third-person shooter hybrid the studio honed with the Mass Effect franchise, this is the hardest it has leaned into that concept. With Anthem, we're seeing a major shift in what BioWare is capable of. Although it still exhibits some of the studio's role-playing pedigree, it's the vast online open-world that sets Anthem apart.
In the vein of Bungie's Destiny and Ubisoft's The Division, Anthem is a shared-world online shooter focusing on groups of players taking on new challenges and chasing new loot. But in familiar BioWare fashion, your particular Freelancer will make important narrative choices throughout the game's main campaign, altering their relationships with allies and other factions. While this sounds pretty standard, this is all housed within an online world where other players are making similar or conflicting choices in their own story.
As of now, we only know what the story is about in the broad sense: humans on a hostile alien planet, a powerful ancient presence of some form, and major world-altering events. While BioWare wasn't ready to share just how those choices will be reflected in the game for others to see, it did say they'll be surfaced in some form. With that said, the general narrative feels much more of a nebulous concept right now, and I am intrigued to see how the developer will be able to inject that familiar BioWare-style storytelling into Anthem.
During a hands-on session with the game at EA Play, we got to check out one of Anthem's missions while getting a feel for the Javelin exo-suits and their unique powers. We played the Scars and Villainy mission, which took the game's Freelancers on an operation to take out an ancient weapon: a Relic held by the imposing Scar forces--one of the many groups on the planet fighting for control. While this mission was shown during the EA Play press conference, we saw an extended version of it, exploring some of the surrounding areas and fighting against the Swarm Tyrant boss. Though it's usually difficult to get a sense of the game's scale from standard vertical slice demos (as they aim to show a little bit of everything), I was impressed with the sense of scale and verticality--which felt particularly fresh for a BioWare game.
As Anthem is an action-RPG, you're given a lot of options in how you'll fight against enemies. With a primary weapon, side-arm, and special abilities--like the Ranger's case, Frost Grenades--you'll be able to fly into combat and utilize your skills in quick succession. Coordinating with your team will also open up opportunities to use combination attacks which offer bonus damage to groups of enemies. For instance, you can use the Ranger's Frost Grenade and the Colossus' slam skill together to destroy frozen enemies, which sends shards of ice into surrounding monsters.
I was impressed with how punchy and tactile the shooting mechanics were, which made getting a feel for the new systems fairly easy. While the Mass Effect series had largely serviceable combat--which gradually got better as the entries went on--Anthem shows some major growth on BioWare's part thanks to its fast, responsive combat, which made many of the fights I played thrilling to take part in.
Your Freelancer's most valuable asset is their Javelin exo-suit, which allows them to survive the world's hostile environment. Movement is a core part of Anthem, and each Javelin can use their booster packs to fly through the world and glide underwater at great speed. Regardless of their archetype, each Javelin has a wonderful sense of velocity and mobility while zipping through the air, which recalled some exciting moments from films like Iron Man. While you're not able to fly indefinitely (as your suit's thrusters will overheat) flying through environmental elements like waterfalls will offer instant cooldowns and keep you going for longer distances.
As you complete jobs, you'll acquire more resources and new gear for the exo-suits. While you'll focus on one Javelin early on, you'll eventually be able to switch over to other suits. So far, Anthem has four unique Javelins: the all-around striker Ranger; the Hulk-like Colossus; the glass-cannon Storm, which uses elemental attacks; and the agile Interceptor. As you can tell, the Javelins are not unlike classes in a traditional RPG, fulfilling those standard archetypes needed to round out a group.
While the mission culminated in a battle against the large Swarm Tyrant boss, who summoned smaller spider creatures and other hazards against the group, the demo ended about halfway through the fight. What's interesting about this battle is that it highlighted the game's focus on online gameplay, as it required a lot firepower to whittle the boss's health down. While the Mass Effect games had online modes, they were single-player games at heart. During the presentation, the developers stated that while players can go solo, they'll eventually come across some fights that will be too challenging to tackle alone.
While there's still plenty we don't know about Anthem--narrative-progression, PvP, and just what the endgame can offer--this brief taste of the game offered a whole lot to look forward to. Though BioWare has already dabbled in the sci-fi space with Mass Effect, Anthem comes off as a major departure for the company, specifically in how it's focusing much more on fast gameplay and dynamic battles. Still, we're eager to hear more about the larger specifics of the game, and just what that means for the bigger picture of Anthem.

As expected, EA's E3 2018 briefing delivered some more news about Battlefield V, the much-anticipated World War II shooter from developer DICE. On top of teasing a battle royale mode for the game, EA shared a new multiplayer trailer that showcased a spectacular combat scene and large-scale destruction.
The trailer started with paratroopers jumping out of a plane onto a large-scale map set in Norway where aircraft, tanks, and ground troops were all engaged in a snow-covered town. The Aurora Borealis was clearly visible in the sky with huge mountains out in the distance. New features like the destruction model for buildings, anti-air guns attached to the back of tanks, and reverse prone movement were showcased.
We also had a sneak peak at War Stories, the single-player campaign where you play through different vignettes of the larger conflict. The Nordlys campaign was teased with two female characters under duress, with one saying, "Not a single drop. I love you." One is then tossed into the water as enemy soldiers approach. More details are expected to come during Microsoft's Xbox showcase tomorrow, June 10.
There's still little that we know about the aforementioned battle royale mode, but EA said it will offer teamplay, vehicles, and destruction for an experience the developer claims you haven't gotten in Battlefield or any other game before. Additional details about Battlefield V's battle royale mode will be announced sometime later this year.
If you're attending EA Play this weekend in Hollywood, you can go hands-on with Battlefield V and some of the publisher's other upcoming games.
At Saturday's EA Play event for E3 2018, the publisher announced a new game as part of its EA Originals label: Sea of Solitude. Along with the announcement, EA showed a trailer, which showcased the game's beautiful, flooded world and stylized but haunting monsters.
Sea of Solitude is developed by Jo-Mei, a small game studio based in Berlin. It stars a girl who has been turned into a monster, and your goal is to find out how she transformed and how to turn her back into a human. The game's main theme is loneliness and how it affects people.
Sea of Solitude was announced alongside another EA Originals title, Unravel 2, which is out today. Be sure to check our roundup of EA's press conference for all the news, trailers, and more, including new details on Battlefield V and Anthem. And stay tuned for more E3 2018 coverage as the week goes on.
Ahead of Microsoft's E3 2018 press conference, Square Enix has revealed that Nier Automata is coming to Xbox One. In a blog post that has since been taken down, the publisher announced the acclaimed action RPG will be released digitally on Microsoft's console later this month, and it'll include a handful of extra content.
Dubbed the Nier Automata: Become as Gods edition, the game will retail for $50 and comes with the base adventure, plus several DLC packs. That includes the 3C3C1D119440927 expansion--which lets players fight the bosses of Square Enix and Platinum Games--as well as the following cosmetic items:
Grimoire Weiss Pod
Retro Red Pod Skin
Retro Grey Pod Skin
Cardboard Pod Skin
The Machine Lifeform Mask Accessory
Nier Automata: Become as Gods edition launches in the Xbox Store on June 26. It originally released for PS4 and PC in 2017 and was a critically and commercial success for Square Enix. GameSpot awarded it a 9/10 in our Nier Automata review and called it "a meaty, often exhilarating trek that showcases Platinum Games' and Yoko Taro's unique blend of genius." We also selected it as one of the best games of 2017.
We'll undoubtedly see more of Nier Automata: Become as Gods during Microsoft's E3 press conference, which is scheduled to air today, June 10, at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET. The publisher hasn't revealed what it will discuss during the presentation, but Xbox boss Phil Spencer said there will be a lot of game reveals. You can stream it live on GameSpot or follow along with our Microsoft liveblog.
As BioWare teased in the days leading up to EA Play, Anthem had a big presence during EA's E3 2018 press conference. Not only did we learn more about the game's story and when it will launch, we got to see a gorgeous new cinematic trailer--the first that BioWare has shared since the title was publicly unveiled at last year's E3.
The trailer doesn't showcase any new gameplay of Anthem, but it does offer a deeper look at the game's world and the monstrous creatures that live within. "The gods vanished and left our world in chaos," the video begins. "Creating, altering, destroying. The Anthem is all that remains." From there, we get to see a band of Freelancers flying through different environments and battling monsters. You can watch the trailer above.
BioWare had previously said that a new trailer would be revealed during EA Play. In the weeks leading up to the event, the official Anthem Twitter and Facebook accounts shared a new clip and piece of artwork from the game--the first activity on either social media page in nearly a year. The aforementioned clip ended with a tease for a new trailer that would be shown off on June 9.
In addition to the CG trailer, BioWare showcased a gameplay demonstration of Anthem during the press conference, providing our first real look at the game in action since it was unveiled last year. The demonstration showed off four players exploring a lush, forested area and culminated in a fight against a giant monster.
Like Destiny, Anthem is an online, cooperative shooter with a heavy emphasis on RPG elements. Players assume the role of warriors known as Freelancers and must band together to explore uncharted worlds and fight to protect humanity. Freelancers wear special customizable exo-suits called Javelins, which can be outfitted with a variety of different weapons and special abilities. The Javelins fall into four different categories, which determine a player's role.
On top of the new gameplay footage, BioWare revealed when Anthem will launch. After several delays, the title is scheduled to arrive on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on February 22. You can read more about Anthem and the other announcements from EA's press conference on GameSpot's E3 2018 hub.

After years of anticipation, Kingdom Hearts III has now been given a firm release date. As the conclusion to the core trilogy of games, focusing on Sora, Donald, and Goofy's adventures through Disney-themed worlds, the third game looks to expand its scope even further while still showing that its still got charm and plenty of heart. Coming to PS4 and Xbox One, Kingdom Hearts III will arrive on January 29, 2019.
This news came rather suddenly, with the official Kingdom Hearts III Twitter page unceremoniously revealing the release info on the (unofficial) first day of E3. While it's been in development for years, series creator Tetsuya Nomura previously stated at last year's D23 event that the release was planned for 2018. During a Kingdom Hearts III fan event in May, he also revealed that the final release date for the game would be unveiled soon.
Last month, we had some hands-on time with the game, and we were pleasantly surprised at how much the game's style and tone has held over the years. While fans can still expect to explore worlds themed after many classic Disney animated films, Pixar is now set to make its debut with the Kingdom Hearts series. As of now, the confirmed Disney worlds in Kingdom Hearts III are Tangled, Big Hero Six, Hercules, Toy Story, and Monsters Inc.
For more info on Kingdom Hearts III and other Square Enix titles during E3 2018, be sure to keep up with us we publish more content from the gaming world's biggest event. The game will likely feature in Square Enix's press conference, which is scheduled to be held on June 11.

The Microsoft E3 2018 briefing begins at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET. We don't know how long it'll run for, but it's likely to be between 1-2 hours. Microsoft is trailing Sony when it comes to hardware sales and mindshare, so it will be interesting to see what surprises the company may have up its sleeve.
Microsoft has said it has a lot in store for E3 2018, but we don't know what to expect from the event itself. The Forza series rotates between Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon, so 2018 would be a Horizon year if that schedule continues. There are also rumours of a Xbox game-streaming service, while Halo fans are hoping to hear about what's next for Master Chief's journey. It wouldn't be an E3 press conference if there weren't surprises, too.
After the Xbox briefing wraps up, fans can visit the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles to play upcoming Xbox games. Microsoft will also have a presence at the Los Angeles Convention Center itself, but this will be primarily focused on Mixer.
GameSpot will be seeing and playing the upcoming Xbox games, and we'll report back with written and video news updates and previews as the show goes on.

At the EA Play press conference during E3 2018, the company took a few moments to outline its roadmap for the future of Star Wars Battlefront II. Design director Dennis Brannvall admitted the game had a "rough start" after its controversial launch last year, but he insisted that EA remains committed to the title. To that end, he explained what's coming next for the Star Wars shooter: the iconic Clone Wars.
This year, Battlefront 2 will get a load of new content based on the prequel conflict, including several new heroes and villains, as well as iconic locations from the Clone Wars setting. The content will kick off with Geonosis, which EA says will feature "multiple levels," including the largest one it has ever designed for the game. Additionally, General Grevious, Count Dooku, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker are all slated to arrive in Battlefront II as new Heroes.
EA didn't announce exactly when it will begin rolling out Clone Wars content for Battlefront II, but that's only one component of the company's ongoing support for the title. EA recently kicked off Han Solo season in the game, which saw the addition of the Jabba's Palace map and several new Appearances. Solo-inspired content--including Alden Ehrenreich's Solo and Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian--is also scheduled to arrive very soon, on June 12.
Beyond the new Clone Wars and Solo content, EA will introduce a new squad system to Battlefront II this summer, which allows players to more easily team up and play with friends. The developer is also going to add a new Starfighter mode that focuses on dogfights with Hero ships, as well as a new "large-scale multiplayer sandbox experience" that revolves around capturing command posts and attacking Capital ships.
The Clone Wars news joined another Star Wars announcement made during the EA Play presentation. Respawn's Star Wars game is called Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, and it takes place in the dark times after the Emperor exerts his control over the galaxy. It's coming in holiday 2019.
E3 2018 is officially here, and EA kicked things off by dropping some major news at its EA Play press conference. Much of the big news centered around its two biggest upcoming games: Battlefield V and BioWare's new IP, Anthem. They weren't the only games that got some attention on the big stage, though; EA also shared updates on Madden NFL 19, FIFA 19, and a (previously unannounced) platformer Unravel 2.
We've rounded up all of the announcements from the briefing, and below you'll find all of our coverage of EA's kick-off event. You can also check out our EA press conference liveblog if you want to re-experience it, as well as our trailer roundup.

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order (Respawn Entertainment)
FIFA 19 has been officially unveiled at EA's E3 press conference, meaning we've received our first glance at some of the new features coming in this year's edition of the sports phenomenon. We also got a platform list: It's headed to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
PES 2019 is coming earlier than usual this year; FIFA's challenger will launch before the end of August, meaning it has a several week head start over FIFA 19. Last year's FIFA, meanwhile, was well-received at launch.
We awarded the sports game a 7/10 in our FIFA 18 review. "It's off the pitch that EA excels," we said. "From the variety of game modes on offer and how everything's presented, to the constant updates in FUT's Team of the Week, Daily Objectives, and discussion of real-world happenings in commentary, FIFA 18 captures the world of football and confidently translates it into a video game. On the pitch, however, EA's soccer series is still lagging far behind PES 2018's more fluid, satisfying football. This year's improvements are welcome, but more needs to be done in the coming years if FIFA is to be a world-beater once again."
We'll have more FIFA details from E3 as it's announced.
For the first time in over 10 years, EA has hold of the official Champions League license for use in its FIFA franchise. FIFA 19 will be the first game in the series to boast the official license of Europe's elite club competition since the 2007 spin-off title UEFA Champions League 2006-2007.
The news comes soon after UEFA confirmed its long-running partnership with Konami--which saw the Pro Evolution Soccer series exclusively contain the competition for a decade--had come to an end. EA and UEFA's new deal also means the lesser Europa League license will be exclusively seen in FIFA from now on. The length of this deal has not been divulged.
FIFA now has a near total monopoly over real-world soccer licenses when compared to Konami and PES. Most recently, EA released a free World Cup update for FIFA 18.
