BioWare's Anthem: New Teaser Video And Art Released; Trailer Coming At E3

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 02, 2018 12:15 am

E3 2018 is approaching quickly, and ahead of the big event, BioWare continues to drop more teases for its mysterious new IP, Anthem. Following a cryptic tweet posted earlier this week, the studio has shared a new piece of key art for the game, as well as a brief clip that reveals when fans can expect to see its next trailer.

The clip, which you can watch below, was shared on Twitter. It only lasts for six seconds and doesn't provide a look at any gameplay, but it establishes the tone of the game. "There is something waiting for us beyond the wall..." the accompanying tweet reads, while the narrator of the clip says, "Something is out there... It wants to destroy us all."

The clip ends with with a tease for the game's next trailer, which will be shared on June 9--the day of publisher EA's big pre-E3 event, EA Play. The event is scheduled to begin at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET / 7 PM BST and will shed some more light on BioWare's enigmatic action-RPG, along with other major upcoming titles from EA, such as the recently revealed Battlefield V and this year's Madden game, Madden NFL 19.

In addition to the clip, BioWare shared new key art for Anthem, which you can see below. This follows recent activity on the game's Facebook and Twitter accounts, both of which have lain dormant since last year. Studio boss Casey Hudson also confirmed on Twitter that BioWare will talk more about the game during EA Play and even answer some fan questions live on stage.

No Caption Provided

Anthem was first announced during last year's E3 and was originally planned to launch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018; however, EA recently confirmed that the game is now slated to release on the aforementioned platforms in early 2019. The publisher didn't elaborate on why Anthem was pushed back into next year, but it asserted that this isn't actually a delay.

Despite being revealed nearly a year ago, we still know very little about Anthem. It's a Destiny-esque cooperative action game with a heavy emphasis on multiplayer, although BioWare says the game will still be playable solo. You can read more about the title in our roundup of what we know about Anthem and what we hope to learn about it at this year's E3.

Nintendo's New Switch Game Has A Nice Eshop Pre-Order Bonus

By Chris Reed on Jun 02, 2018 12:07 am

Nintendo is famously stingy when it comes to sales and price drops on its first-party games. Until the company releases a Nintendo Selects edition of a game, you can generally expect to pay full price, regardless of how long ago it came out--especially digital versions. So it's nice to see Nintendo offering a pre-order bonus for Mario Tennis Aces, which is set to launch June 22.

If you buy the game on the Nintendo Switch Eshop between now and June 21, you'll get 300 bonus Gold Points, for a total of 600 Gold Points for the purchase. That's worth $6 in Eshop credit you can use on any future purchases.

Granted, this doesn't amount to a huge savings, especially compared to Amazon's 20 percent off game pre-orders with Prime. It's also limited because you have to spend it on future Eshop orders instead of getting an immediate discount. But seeing as this is an unreleased digital Nintendo game, it's surprising to see.

If you're on the fence about pre-ordering Mario Tennis Aces, you can download the beta client from the Eshop now. The beta is limited to a "Pre-Launch Online Tournament" that runs between June 1-3. When you start, it will only feature four playable characters: Mario, Peach, Yoshi, and Bowser. If you play well enough, you'll be able to unlock five additional characters. You'll also be able to unlock a free bonus costume in the full game by participating in the beta. As for the specific times the beta is live, see below.

Mario Tennis Aces Online Tournament Schedule

North America

  • June 1, 6 PM - June 3, 11:59 PM PT
  • June 1, 9 PM - June 4, 2:59 AM ET

Europe

  • June 1, 3 PM BST - June 3, 11:59 PM BST
  • June 1, 4 PM CEST - June 4, 12:59 AM CEST

New Free PC Games For Amazon / Twitch Prime Members Out Now (June 2018)

By Chris Reed on Jun 02, 2018 12:00 am

Amazon and Twitch Prime members can now download their free games for June 2018. To collect your freebies, just click the crown-shaped Prime Loot icon next to the search bar on Twitch. That opens a drop-down menu containing your free games, of which there are a total of five this month.

Kicking off the freebies is Strafe, a gory first-person shooter that wouldn't look out of place in 1996. It's a fast-paced roguelike-inspired game with procedurally generated levels and tons of blood-spilling weapons. Next up are The Banner Saga and The Banner Saga 2, tactical RPGs about a Viking caravan trekking through a world inspired by Norse mythology. The many decisions you'll have to make will determine your success or failure.

Also included is Tumblestone, a puzzle game you can play alone or with friends that involves clearing out columns of colorful blocks. Last up is Treadnauts, a side-scrolling arena battle game in which you and some buddies control nimble tanks trying to blow each other up.

Twitch Prime is a perk for members of Amazon Prime. All you have to do to sign up is link your Amazon Prime account to your Twitch account. Once you do, you can download all five games for no cost between May 31 - July 1. They're yours to keep forever, even if you cancel Amazon Prime down the line. The only catch is that you need the Twitch desktop app to install them.

Other Twitch Prime benefits include free monthly in-game loot for popular games like Fortnite and Heroes of the Storm, ad-free viewing on Twitch, and a channel subscription every 30 days.

Two Free Xbox One Games With Gold Available Now

By Chris Reed on Jun 01, 2018 11:24 pm

It's June, and that can only mean one thing: a new set of games is now free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Two of June's games are available now for Xbox One and Xbox 360, with the next two coming in the middle of the month.

For Xbox One, Gold members can download Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia, the final standalone entry in the side-scrolling sub-series. On the Xbox 360 side of the equation, subscribers can now download Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, a kart racer starring Sonic and friends, who pilot vehicles that can change from kart to boat to plane. Thanks to backwards compatibility, Xbox One owners can also play it on their current-gen systems.

One holdover from May's Games With Gold is still available to download through June 15. It's the open-world stealth opus Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Don't miss out on that one if you've never played it.

Two other freebies will become available in the middle of the month. On June 16, Xbox One owners will be able to grab the Smite Gold Bundle, a package that normally costs $100 and includes gods, skins, and other extra content for the free-to-play game. The Xbox 360 game going free for Gold members June 16 is Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues. It will also be backwards compatible with Xbox One.

The Crow Movie Reboot: Star And Director Quit Weeks Before Start Of Production

By Dan Auty on Jun 01, 2018 11:17 pm

UPDATE: Jason Momoa has now released a statement about his departure from the remake of The Crow. Posting on Instagram, he said, "I've waited 8 years to play this dream role. I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James O'Barr sorry to let you down I won't on the next. This film needs to be set free. And to the fans. Sorry. I can't play anything but what this film deserves and it needs love. I'm ready when it's right." The original story follows.

The long-awaited reboot of the classic '90s movie The Crow has stalled once again. The film was only a few weeks away from the start of production in Budapest, with Aquaman actor Jason Momoa set to star as the iconic comic book character. However, it has now been reported that both Momoa and director Corin Hardy have left the project over creative and financial issues.

According to Deadline, Momoa and Hardy quit following disagreements between Davis Films, the company which owns the rights to the property, and Sony Pictures, which was set to distribute it. Sony came on board back in September, but Deadline states that the deal between the two companies was never finalized. With Davis Films boss Samuel Hadida reportedly unable to close the deal, Sony was preparing to leave the project, leading to the departure of Momoa and Hardy.

This is just the latest in a long line of delays and problems for the Crow reboot. The movie was first set to start shooting in 2015, but original rights holders Relativity Media went bankrupt before this could happen. Another attempt to make it followed, but that also stalled, and Davis Films acquired the rights in 2016.

Hardy and Momoa had been attached to the project for several years, and earlier this year a release date of March 2019 was officially announced, leading many to believe that the movie might finally happen. However, with the film now lacking a star, director, and distributor, it is unclear what the cinematic future of The Crow is.

The Crow first appeared on the screen in 1994, and was adapted from James O'Barr's comic book. The film was a critical and financial hit, but it was overshadowed by the accidental death of star Brandon Lee on set. Three critically panned sequels followed--The Crow: City of Angels, The Crow: Salvation, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer.

E3 2018: All The PS4 Games Confirmed -- Fallout 76, Spider-Man, Death Stranding

By Steve Watts on Jun 01, 2018 10:46 pm

E3 is just around the corner, and for publishers like Sony that means big splashy presentations and surprising announcements. The annual PlayStation showcase is one of the highlights of E3, especially since the company has fine-tuned its presentation to deliver one trailer after another.

It's hard to say just how surprising this year's show will be, however. Sony has taken the unusual step of outlining its plans ahead of time, with a particular "deep dive" focus on four games: Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man, and The Last of Us Part II. That covers the first-party line-up for the foreseeable future, and time will have to tell if Sony will devote any of its press conference to third-party games.

Sony's E3 press conference will begin on Monday, June 11 at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET. You can check out our full press conference schedule for the rest of the line-up, and look below for all of the PS4 games confirmed to be at the show so far.

E3 2018: All The Xbox One Games Confirmed -- Fallout 76, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Battlefield 5

By Steve Watts on Jun 01, 2018 10:46 pm

Microsoft is preparing for its big E3 2018 stage show to debut and hype the biggest and best games coming to Xbox One this year. The company has been setting lofty expectations, calling the show its "biggest showing ever." To that end, it has mostly moved its actual show presence out of the Los Angeles Convention Center and into the nearby Microsoft Theater at LA Live.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has promised "positive changes" and more support for Japanese publishers. Aside from those vague hints, though, we know very little about what the company will actually be showing this year. In fact, Microsoft has been so secretive that we don't even know which first-party games are slated for the rest of this year. Halo? Gears of War? Forza? Any of them could be a surprise announcement.

We could also hear expansions or announcements related to the company's own popular initiatives like Xbox Game Pass and Xbox One backwards compatibility. As for third-party support, it's a safe bet that Battlefield 5 will be prominently featured given the apparent marketing deal for EA's upcoming shooter.

Microsoft's E3 2018 briefing will take place on Sunday, June 11 at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET. Check out the full E3 conference schedule, and check the list below for all of the Xbox One games we know are slated to make an appearance at the show.

Every Game Confirmed For E3 2018: Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Spider-Man, Battlefield 5

By Chris Pereira on Jun 01, 2018 10:43 pm

E3 is the biggest showcase for video games every year, and E3 2018 is shaping up to be no different. While events like Gamescom might be far larger in terms of sheer attendance, E3 is still the premiere place for developers to showcase their upcoming projects. There are sure to be many games that we don't know about, but let's run through all of the ones that have been confirmed for the convention so far.

While E3 used to be more concentrated from an audience's perspective, the show has effectively been spread out to last nearly a full week. Press conferences and showcases have come earlier and earlier; the first of the bunch this year will again be EA Play, Electronic Arts' pre-E3 event. We don't know the show's full lineup, but the publisher has already confirmed that two of its biggest upcoming games will be there: Anthem and Battlefield V. BioWare's Anthem is a Destiny-esque open-world action game that we've still yet to hear much about, so EA Play should provide us with a firmer idea of what expect. Similarly, we should learn even more about the new features Battlefield V will offer as it takes the franchise back to World War II.

Battlefield's chief competition, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, will also make an appearance at E3. Another Activision shooter, Destiny 2, will also be there, as Bungie is set to share details on an upcoming mode due out this fall that offers a "new style of play" for first-person shooters.

Super Smash Bros. for Switch will be among Nintendo's biggest games at the show, while Sony has said its press conference will focus primarily on four games: Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man, and The Last of Us Part II. There will, however, be some projects from third-party developers shown there, while Microsoft's conference remains a mystery.

There's sure to be a lot more on display, and there's always a good chance of some kind of surprise. We know, for instance, that The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red will be in attendance, though we don't know if it'll be actually showing off a game. There was also a lot seemingly leaked by Walmart Canada earlier in May; one of those games, Rage 2, has proven to be real, so perhaps more of those games will turn out to be at E3. Read on for the full list of confirmed games so far, and check back as we continue to update in the lead-up to the show, which runs from June 12-14.

Luke Cage Season 2's Secret Weapon Is Mariah Dillard

By Chris E. Hayner on Jun 01, 2018 10:37 pm

In many ways, the first season of Marvel's Luke Cage was about the rift between cousins Cottonmouth Stokes and Mariah Dillard. Now, in Season 2 of the Netflix series, Mariah stands in that spotlight alone and, in doing so, has become the show's most exciting character.

Played masterfully by Alfre Woodard, Mariah is walking the line between good and evil--Dillard and Stokes--throughout Season 2. In many ways, she's a hero to Harlem just like the titular Luke Cage. They both believe they are fighting to save their neighborhood. Of course, their methods are very different. While Luke is constantly trying to live within a moral code, Mariah doesn't mind playing dirty to achieve her goals. For Woodard, getting to further explore this side of Mariah is what excites her so much about Season 2.

"One of the fun things about being an actor is you get to behave in a lot of different ways," she says during a group interview. "And, especially as a woman, especially as a southern woman, from the time you're three years old, everybody says to you, 'Be nice. Be nice.' They never say that to the guys, they can be whatever they want to... I think women actors like to be, you know, not compliant. They like to do what they feel like doing. Sometimes [it's] not legal, sometimes it is. But I really liked finding a woman that answered to her conscience the way a man has always had liberty to do."

And that's certainly how she answers it. Without giving anything away, Season 2 is as violent and brutal as the first year of Luke Cage, and some of that blood falls right at the feet of Dillard.

No Caption Provided

"Alfre, in some ways, when you get deeper into the season, will prove to be the biggest bad," creator Cheo Hodari Coker explains during a group interview. "You can't really say that Bushmaster or Mariah Dillard is a bigger bad because they both do some pretty heinous things."

In Mariah's own mind, though, what she's doing doesn't make her the villain of the story. "She's a hero," Woodard says. "She doesn't have superpowers, but she has super tenacity. And she is a hero."

Adds Coker, "What I will say is that all of our villains have dimension. The one thing that [head of Marvel Television] Jeph Loeb always says is that the villain's story should be a hero's story from the villain's perspective." Together, he and Woodard have crafted that journey for Mariah in Season 2, even getting to a point where she may outshine Luke Cage himself.

"Alfre's portrayal of Mariah Dillard is as a woman that's conflicted on a moral level, but not paralyzed," Coker teases. "She evolves, she reacts to things. There are very good reasons why she feels the way that she feels."

No Caption Provided

That doesn't mean she won't pay the price for her actions, though. "When she makes a decision, when she turns a corner, that corner's turned," he explains. "She turns corners here, in the season, that are gonna be very hard for her to turn back from."

What it will all come down to is how the character sees her true identity--which is one of the core stories of Season 2. "The thing is, in terms of Mariah, is that she can be strong for Harlem, but still be at war with herself as to, is she a Dillard or is she a Stokes?" Coker says. "It's that split and her trying to figure that out that becomes the crux of the season. When she finally embraces one or the other."

While he won't reveal what side of the line she'll fall on, Coker warns, "When you see her make her decision as to whether or not she's a Stokes or a Dillard, it sticks. It's a culminating moment; honestly, one of my favorite in all 26 episodes that we've filmed thus far."

You'll be able to see for yourself exactly what Coker is talking about when Season 2 of Luke Cage premieres June 29 on Netflix.

Fortnite Blitz Showdown Competition Now Live

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 01, 2018 10:21 pm

Epic has kicked off a new contest in Fortnite: Battle Royale on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile. On top of the two limited-time modes going on now in Battle Royale, players can participate in the game's second competition: Blitz Showdown.

Like the Solo Showdown contest that was held last month, Blitz Showdown is a limited-time competition against other self-selected participants. This time, however, players compete in Blitz matches, meaning each one will be much faster-paced than before. "Circles will be faster, combat more rapid, and eliminations now factor into the final scores," Epic says.

In Blitz Showdown, players vie to earn a spot in the standings; those who rack up a high enough score by the end of the contest will earn a sizable prize of V-Bucks, Fortnite's in-game currency. You must play at least 25 matches in order to be eligible for one of the prizes, and your ranking will be determined by your placements in each match.

The top 100 players in each server region will take home a prize. The player who comes in first will receive 20,000 V-Bucks. Those who come in second through fifth will get 13,500 V-Bucks, while the remaining players within the top 100 will receive 7,500 V-Bucks. You can read the rules for the Blitz Showdown contest on the official Fortnite website.

Blitz Showdown runs from now until 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 3 PM BST on June 4. Epic will track the standings for each region throughout the competition on its blog. The developer also teases Showdown competitions will become a regular fixture of Battle Royale. "We'll be exploring different Showdown formats on a regular basis in the future," Epic said.

In addition to the Showdown, players can still participate in squads matches of Blitz v2, as well as the returning Teams of 20 limited-time mode. As its name implies, the latter divides players up into five teams of 20, with the objective being to be the last team remaining. For this iteration of the mode, each time flies in on their own battle bus, and Chests and Supply Drops also spawn extra consumables and ammo.

PS4 PS Plus Free Games Of May 2018 Are Still Available

By Chris Reed on Jun 01, 2018 09:42 pm

We're now well into the month, but it's not too late to grab the latest set of PS4, PS3, and PS Vita games that are available for PlayStation Plus members to download for free. You have six games waiting for you across all systems for May 2018, but because several of them are Cross-Buy, you'll get three games for PS4.

This month's PS4 offerings are headlined by Beyond: Two Souls, a game from Quantic Dream, the makers of this month's big PS4 exclusive, Detroit: Become Human. Like Detroit, Beyond: Two Souls is a cinematic, narrative-driven game whose plot largely hinges around the choices you make. May's other free PS4 game is the stylish, well-received platformer Rayman Legends.

Over on PS3, you get the action RPG Risen 3: Titan Lords as well as the arcade-style game Eat Them, which has you design a monster and use it to go wreck a city. PS Vita owners can download the similarly destruction-based game King Oddball and the physics puzzle game Furmins. King Oddball supports Cross-Buy and is playable on PS3 and PS4 as well.

All of these games are free to download until Tuesday, June 5, and you can play them as long as you have an active PS Plus membership. You can download the games from your PlayStation device, or from the web-based PlayStation Store. On June 5, the new set of PS Plus games will be available.

May 2018 PS Plus Games Lineup

  • Beyond: Two Souls
  • King Oddball
  • Rayman Legends

PUBG Update 14 Out Now On PC, Full Patch Notes Released

By Jeremy Winslow on Jun 01, 2018 09:40 pm

While PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is off suing Fortnite for copyright infringement, a new patch has landed on PUBG's PC servers, introducing a host of changes, tweaks, and bug fixes. Some of these changes come in the form of the effectiveness of throwables (i.g. frag grenades, Molotovs, and stun grenades), a nerf of the M24 sniper, and a new anti-cheat mechanism.

With this new patch update, frag grenades see a damage and radius buff, Molotovs have an increased area of effect and will explode when shot mid-air, and stun grenades will impair players more effectively. The M24 was nerfed, removed from care package drops, and added to the world's loot spawn system, making it a viable alternative to the Kar98K bolt action rifle.

In addition to the anti-cheat tech--which is "currently only on the test servers [until] additional testing is complete," according to the patch notes--performance has been improved as well. The rendering of character models have been updated to prevent frame drops, character movement and animations while skydiving have been optimized to increase framerate, and abnormal vehicle physics should be resolved. Most notable, however, is the improvements made to the game's netcode, meaning you should see reduced network latency and improved server responsiveness. You can read the full patch notes here.

In our PUBG review, we awarded the game an 8/10, saying, "Even after hundreds of hours, PUBG continues to inspire rousing tales of victory and defeat."

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is available for Xbox One and PC.

Borderlands PS4, Xbox One, And PC Remaster Or Re-Release Likely Coming

By Patrick Faller on Jun 01, 2018 09:39 pm

It looks like Borderlands could be getting a new lease on life. The RPG shooter first came out in 2009 on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, but now it may be coming to current-gen consoles as well in the form of a Game of the Year edition.

Gematsu reports the Korean Game Ratings Board has rated a title called Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition. While the game hasn't been officially announced, the news indicates a remaster or re-release is coming on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, in South Korea at least. This would mark the first time Borderlands has been re-released, unlike its sequels Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which were remastered in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection in 2015.

In GameSpot's review of Borderlands, Chris Watters gave the game an 8/10 and praised its satisfying gunplay, tons of items and rewards, unique playable characters, and distinct art style in a sci-fi setting. "Though the core action doesn't change drastically over the course of the game, it is woven together in such a way that once it ensnares you, you'll want nothing more than to plunge into Pandora at any chance you get," said Watters.

"Combat is satisfying, and upgrading your skills and equipment is engaging. The constant stream of loot and experience is rewarding, and sharing it with some friends makes the experience that much richer and more exciting."

In other Borderlands news, developer Gearbox says, despite rumors, a game called "Borderlands 3" will not be shown at E3 2018. There have been many hints that another Borderlands sequel is in the works, which leaves the statement up for interpretation and the possibility that the game is simply not called that. Here's everything we know and want from Borderlands 3 at E3 2018.

Destiny 2's Year 2 Reveal Livestream Coming Next Week, Here's When And How To Watch

By Eddie Makuch on Jun 01, 2018 09:38 pm

Bungie is gearing up to make what sounds like a big Destiny 2 announcement ahead of E3 2018. The studio announced today that its Year 2 livestream will take place on Tuesday, June 5. The stream, which you'll be able to watch on Twitch and here on GameSpot, begins at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET.

The reveal event will offer a first look at what Bungie has lined up for Destiny 2's second year. This includes "some big ideas for how we're going to transform your Guardian lifestyle and reinforce your hobby as an interplanetary hero."

No Caption Provided

A number of Destiny 2 developers will appear on the stream, including game director Steve Cotton and project lead Scott Taylor. "We'll respond to a bunch of community feedback and unveil some other things you haven't even been looking forward to… yet," Bungie said. "We'll top it all off with a look at a new Roadmap with exciting new promises for everyone."

The reveal event is just the beginning, as Bungie says it is only the "beginning of a conversation that will last all summer long." We're expecting to see and hear more about Destiny 2 Year 2 content at E3 2018.

Following Warmind, Destiny 2's next big expansion is coming this fall. It will introduce an "incredibly engaging new mode," according to publisher Activision.

Activision's Coddy Johnson said recently that this new mode introduces a "whole new style of play for first-person shooter gaming generally and certainly for the shared-world shooter space that Destiny created." He added: "It's a really exciting development. It's one of the things we think will really speak to the community when it comes out in the fall."

Fortnite Update 4.3 Introduces Shopping Carts And More; Patch Notes Released

By Oscar Dayus on Jun 01, 2018 09:38 pm

Epic Games' hugely popular Fortnite: Battle Royale continues to evolve and change, and now the company has introduced even more big changes. Battle Royale has gotten its first vehicle, the Shopping Cart, which comes as part of the broader 4.3 update, and it's out now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile.

According to Epic, the Shopping Cart allows you to "ride solo or grab a friend to cover you as you roll around the map together." The company says you can shoot from the passenger seat--but presumably not if you're the one pushing the cart. The trolleys are found scattered around the world in various locations, and they can take fall damage.

Another new element in this update are Mushrooms. These can be found in shady wooded or swampy areas, and by consuming them, you'll gain 5 shield. These can take you all the way up to to the maximum of 100.

The new update also reintroduces two limited-time modes, Blitz and Teams of 20. Blitz matches play out much quicker than standard Battle Royales, and this time round the mode is even faster. It also includes all the new items and weapons that have been added to Fortnite since Blitz was first seen, such as the Port-a-Fort, Clinger, and LMG.

Teams of 20, meanwhile, sees five teams of 20 players each face off against each other. This time round, each team will have their own bus to make dropping together easier, while chests and supply drops will each provide more ammo and consumables than they did before.

Save the World, meanwhile, sees its Blockbuster event return with Part 2: A Hero is Born. This second portion of the event will have you reunite with Ray and join the effort to save Spitfire, while new Daily Quests and more have been added. Take a look at the full patch notes below, via Epic Games.

Fortnite Update 4.3 Patch Notes

E3 2018: Press Conference Schedule, Date, Games, Rumors, And Everything You Need To Know

By Chris Pereira on Jun 01, 2018 08:59 pm

E3 2018 is almost upon us. The Electronic Entertainment Expo is the biggest event of the year in terms of announcements. Video game companies have increasingly begun to share news in the weeks ahead of E3 itself, and that's certainly proven to be the case this year--Battlefield V, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Rage 2, and Fallout 76 have already been announced. Still, there's plenty more to look forward to, both in terms of further specifics about those games--like just what is Fallout 76?--and others still to be revealed.

But in terms of E3 itself, we've got a complete rundown on everything you need to know. From the games and companies we know will be there to the press conference schedule and details on the event, you'll find all of the key information about E3 2018. Be sure to stay tuned to GameSpot in the lead-up and through the event for full coverage.

When And Where Is E3?

E3 officially begins on Tuesday, June 12, and runs through Thursday, June 14. That's when the show floor is actually open at the Los Angeles Convention Center, as game companies set up booths and demo their games to press, members of the industry, and--in a much more recent move--a select number of public attendees.

While E3 itself lasts only three days, things unofficially begin much sooner. Electronic Arts has branched off from E3 and now hosts its own event, EA Play, the weekend prior. That begins on Saturday, June 9, while other companies--including Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Bethesda, and Ubisoft--will host their own press conference in the days before E3 begins.

When Are The Press Conferences?

EA Play kicks things off, serving as both a mini E3 dedicated to Electronic Arts' games and playing host to the publisher's annual press conference. That happens on June 9. On June 10, we'll get press conferences from Microsoft, Bethesda, and Devolver Digital. June 11 will see Square Enix (new to hosting its own press conference), Ubisoft, and Sony take their turns, in addition to the PC Gaming Show, which is a slightly different sort of beast. Nintendo rounds things out with its online broadcast on June 12, the same day E3 begins.

How Do I Watch The Press Conferences?

Why, right here on GameSpot, of course! We'll be streaming the press conferences live, followed by reactions from our staff. Additionally, we'll have a livestream filled with developer interviews and game demos throughout the week. Meanwhile, Nintendo will follow its Direct-style press conference with its typical Treehouse stream that showcases games coming to its platforms. The PC Gaming Show will stream on platforms like Twitch.

What Companies Are At E3?

A huge number of developers and publishers, both big and small, will be in attendance at E3. Of course, just being there doesn't mean they have something to announce or show, although Witcher fans are nonetheless hoping CD Projekt Red is there to showcase Cyberpunk 2077, not just take meetings.

What Games Are At E3?

Similarly, there are tons of games at E3 that we already know about. That includes big-name ones like Fallout 76, Death Stranding, Super Smash Bros. for Switch, and Battlefield V, along with updates and DLC for existing games like Destiny 2 (the fall DLC/update for which is set to be shown). There's also sure to be a lot of as-of-yet unannounced games there.

What Are The Big E3 Rumors?

Speaking of which, rumors and leaks have already spoiled some pre-E3 announcements, including Rage 2 and Lego DC Super-Villains. There are plenty of other rumors circling ahead of E3 for games that--assuming they're real--we won't hear about until the companies' respective press conferences, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Just Cause 4, and Forza Horizon 4. There's also word that Fallout 76, which appears to be a pretty standard Bethesda RPG, will have online survival elements.

What Do We Want To See?

Like you, we've got a long wishlist of things we're hoping to see at E3 2018. That includes specific details and features in games that we both know will be there (Rage 2, Death Stranding, Spider-Man) and those we do not (a new Splinter Cell, Borderlands 3, Just Cause 4). We've compiled what we know about these projects and what we're hoping to see at the event.

Is E3 Open To The Public?

Unlike most of E3's history, yes, E3 is now open to the public, but you can't just show up and get in. Tickets for the Gamer Pass are up for sale for $249, though you should be prepared for long lines to get into see most things on the show floor. Hours for when you can get in are different than in 2017, as Industry Pass holders (including exhibitors and members of the media) will get in before everyone else on Tuesday and Wednesday.

What Does E3 Stand For?

It's a seemingly silly question, but given how often the term "E3" is used, it's easy to never consider what it actually stands for. E3 is short for Electronic Entertainment Expo, although as the show has evolved, the name has changed slightly at times over the years.

Old Pokemon Demo Reveals New Unused Designs

By Steve Watts on Jun 01, 2018 08:44 pm

A previously unreleased demo for a classic Pokemon game has revealed a treasure trove of unused designs for the monsters along with pre-evolutions and evolutions. The demo for Pokemon Gold and Silver was shown at Space World 1997, Nintendo's own trade show that ran through the early 2000s.

This was a particularly early demo while Gold and Silver were still in development, showing the game a full two years before it was released. That left a lot of time for plans to change, and thanks to a ROM dump of the demo, we can see just how much shifted during development.

Particularly notable monsters include pre-evolution versions of Growlithe and Meowth, and a fire-bear starter who was apparently replaced by the fire-type Cyndaquil. The sprite sheet even includes cut Pokemon that may have come back later, like a seal that looks suspiciously like Popplio from Pokemon Sun and Moon. Plus, it has tons of alternate art that was changed before final release, like a very different look at Gold and Silver's three legendary beasts.

Incredibly, this is the second look at unused Pokemon we've gotten in the span of only a few weeks. A recent manga detailing the life and times of Pokemon creator Satoshi Tajiri showed off some unused designs from the very first game. You can hear us chat about this batch of Pokemon insights around the 22 minute mark in the GameSpot Daily above.

Recently Nintendo detailed its upcoming plans for the franchise. Those included a surprise release of the free-to-play Pokemon Quest, the reveal of Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee, and the announcement that a new core Pokemon game for Switch is on the way next year.

PS4's Free PS Plus Games For June 2018 Revealed

By Chris Pereira on Jun 01, 2018 08:30 pm

With the first Tuesday of June approaching, Sony has confirmed the lineup of free games that PlayStation Plus owners will be able to download during the month. June 2018 brings another set of six games spread across PS4, PS3, and Vita.

This is an unusual month where each platform gets only the standard two games apiece, as there isn't Cross-Buy support for any of them. On PS4, the lineup is still quite good--the biggest title of the month is the stellar tactics game XCOM 2. That's complemented by the fun platformer/racing game hybrid Trials Fusion, which has a theme song that will never leave your brain.

On PS3, the first game is Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, which blends the series' realistic shooting action with futuristic tech. The older console also gets the Complete Edition of Zombie Driver HD, an isometric action game where you'll drive around a car slaughtering zombies.

Finally, Sony's handheld gets Atomic Ninjas, a multiplayer-centric action game, and Squares, a puzzle game where you'll race the clock to change the color of, well, squares.

All of these games will be available beginning on Tuesday, June 5. It's not too late to still claim May's free PS Plus games; those include Beyond: Two Souls and Rayman Legends on PS4, which received a total of three games thanks to Cross-Buy. Those games will be replaced on Tuesday by June's lineup.

PS Plus Free Games Lineup For June 2018

PS4

  • Trials Fusion
  • XCOM 2

PS3

  • Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
  • Zombie Driver HD: Complete Edition

Vita

  • Atomic Ninjas
  • Squares

Fortnite Week 5: Greasy Grove Treasure Map, Disco Ball Dance (Season 4 Challenges)

By Chris Pereira on Jun 01, 2018 08:26 pm

Week 5 challenges in Fortnite: Battle Royale are live, presenting Season 4 Battle Pass owners with another set of seven objectives to complete. These include some fairly routine objectives, while a trickier one involves tracking down a Greasy Grove treasure map. More importantly, you'll need the cooperation of other players to do some dancing. And a bug involving the LMG/minigun challenge has been resolved.

First up is the Hard-difficulty challenge to follow the treasure map found in Greasy Grove. You can head to Greasy Grove and track down the map to start this; alternatively, as with past instances of this type of challenge, you can actually head right to where the treasure itself awaits. This one is a bit trickier to find than most--it's on the outside wall of a structure just northeast of Snobby Shores. Simply land on the slanted roof or build your way up and you'll be able to collect the Battle Pass icon.

What isn't labeled as Hard but could be quite difficult is the challenge asking you to dance with others to raise the Disco Ball near Loot Lake. The ball itself is found in the northernmost of the three buildings that line the western shoreline of the lake. Enter the ground floor and you'll see the disco ball in the middle, surrounded by a dance floor in all four corners of the room. You'll need to coordinate with other players to all dance on these simultaneously; the process takes a few seconds as the disco ball rises up toward the ceiling. It's possible to do this with other random players, but your easiest bet will be to squad up with three friends and head there together.

Week 5 also tasks you to use a vending machine three times. This is relatively straightforward, but if you haven't used a vending machine before, you might be at a loss. Vending machines allow you to exchange crafting materials for items; they're located in fixed spots, but they don't always appear in every match. You can consult our vending machine location guide to find likely spots for these to pop up, but make sure to come with wood, stone, or metal--the cost of using the machine may be high depending on the rarity.

Racking up two eliminations with the minigun or light machine gun sounds straightforward enough, though it of course requires you to happen upon one of the two weapons. This is labeled as a Hard-difficulty challenge. (This launched with a bug that Epic Games says it has fixed.) You'll likely want to try doing this in a Solo playlist so that you don't have to worry about a downed enemy being revived.

The same advice holds true for the challenge asking you to eliminate three opponents in Lucky Landing--not having respawns should make this easier. The remaining objectives simply ask you to deal 500 damage with SMGs to opponents (anything in the SMG family will do) and to search seven chests in Dusty Divot, the meteor impact site added as part of the big Season 4 update.

Completing these challenges will reward you with Battle Stars, which rank up your Battle Pass and allow you to earn Season 4 skins and cosmetic rewards. Completing all of the challenges in a given week also completes a Blockbuster challenge, which entitles you to a new loading screen that directs you to spots where you can obtain a free Battle Pass tier. You can see how to complete every Season 4 objective released so far in our Fortnite challenges guide.

Fortnite Week 5 Challenges

  • Deal damage with SMGs to opponents (500) -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Search Chests in Dusty Divot (7) -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Use a Vending Machine (3) -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Dance with others to raise the Disco Ball near Loot Lake -- 5 Battle Stars
  • Hard: Follow the treasure map found in Greasy Grove -- 10 Battle Stars
  • Hard: Minigun or Light Machine Gun Eliminations (2) -- 10 Battle Stars
  • Hard: Eliminate opponents in Lucky Landing (3) -- 10 Battle Stars

Fortnite: Blitz And Teams Of 20 Modes Going On Now For A Limited Time

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 01, 2018 08:25 pm

Fortnite's 4.3 update has arrived, and along with introducing a new batch of content, it marks the start of a new limited-time mode in Battle Royale. This time, players have two special modes to choose from, Blitz v2 and Teams of 20 v2, both of which are now underway on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and iOS.

As their names imply, both events are new iterations of modes that have previously appeared in Fortnite, and they feature a handful of changes since the last time they were available. As before, Blitz v2 is a shorter match type, lasting a maximum of 15 minutes. Each round begins with the storm circle already closing in on the island, and the wait time between subsequent storms has been significantly shortened.

For this iteration of Blitz, Epic has implemented all of the new weapons and items that have been introduced since the mode first ran back in March, including the Port-a-fort, Clinger, and the LMG. Additionally, the battle bus flies in at a lower altitude at the start of the match, letting players jump into the fray much more quickly.

Teams of 20, meanwhile, divides players into five teams of 20 and pits them against each other in a fight to be the last team standing. This time, each team flies in on their own battle bus, which makes it easier to drop onto the island together. Chests and Supply Drops also spawn extra consumables and ammo, and the latter now come in batches of five. Epic has also decreased the number of storm circles in the mode from nine to six; as a result, Epic says "most" matches will end within 20 minutes.

Epic hasn't announced how long Blitz v2 and Teams of 20 v2 will be available in the rotation, but previous limited-time modes in Fortnite have typically run for about a week. You can read further details about each in the patch notes on the official Fortnite website.

On top of the aforementioned limited-time modes, Fortnite's 4.3 update introduced shopping carts, a new vehicle that allows players to "ride solo or grab a friend to cover you as you roll around the map together." It also implemented a challenge progress notification system, which informs players as they complete challenge objectives. In a change from recent weeks, the next set of weekly challenges arrived on Thursday, May 31.

WWE Money In The Bank 2018 Match Card: Seth Rollins, AJ Styles, Ronda Rousey, And More

By Mat Elfring on Jun 01, 2018 08:14 pm

Money in the Bank is the next WWE event on June 17, and it will have been more than a month since the last PPV, and boy oh boy, fans needed a break. It's a new era for WWE as future major events will feature both Raw and Smackdown superstars, much like Backlash did last month. Coming to you live from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL, Money in the Bank will stream over the WWE Network and available on PPV.

Because WWE is pushing this PPV to be a bigger event, Money in the Bank will have an earlier start time compared to other shows, starting at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT, with a Kickoff show starting one hour prior. As of this writing, no matches have been announced for the Kickoff, and currently, there are eight matches on the card with a couple more expected to be booked.

The main events of the evening will be the two Money in the Bank matches: one for the men and one for the women. Last year, Baron Corbin and Carmella--with help from James Ellsworth--won those respective matches with Carmella successfully cashing in her contract earlier this year. In 2018, the ante has been upped as there will now be eight superstars instead of six in each MITB match. As of this writing, all the combatants are locked in, but the New Day just needs to decide which member will compete in the men's match.

Alongside those two ladder matches, Ronda Rousey makes her singles debut. Her last match was at Wrestlemania when she teamed with Kurt Angle to take on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Rousey will be fighting current Raw Women's Champion Nia Jax for the title. Additionally, Sami Zayn will fight Bobby Lashley, which comes from the fallout of a terrible segment where Zayn interviewed Lashley's supposed sisters who were men in drag. Even after Zayn gave a heartfelt apology, Lashley still wants revenge.

No Caption Provided

However, aside from the MITB matches, the bout to watch will be AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura in a Last Man Standing match. The two men have been involved in a bitter rivalry filled with numerous punches and kicks to the groin, many of which have ended the match for numerous reasons. Now, the only way to lose this match is to be knocked out until the ref counts to 10. Don't worry, there will still be plenty of low blows in this match.

Money in the Bank Match Card:

  • Nia Jax (c) vs. Ronda Rousey (For the Raw Women's Championship)
  • Carmella (c) vs. Asuka (For the Smackdown Women's Championship)
  • Roman Reigns vs. Jinder Mahal
  • Bobby Lashley vs. Sami Zayn
  • Seth Rollins (c) vs. Elias (For the Intercontinental Championship)
  • The Bludgeon Brothers (c) vs. The Good Brothers (For the Smackdown Tag Team Championship)
  • AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship)
  • Lana, Natalya, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte, Ember Moon, Becky Lynch, Naomi, and Sasha Banks (Money in the Bank match)
  • Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens, Bobby Roode, Braun Strowman, The Miz, Rusev, Finn Balor, and one member of The New Day (Money in the Bank match)

Come back to GameSpot on Sunday, June 17 for live coverage of the show.

E3 2018 Xbox One Rumors: Gears Of War 5, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Borderlands, More

By Steve Watts on Jun 01, 2018 08:08 pm

E3 2018 is mere weeks away, which makes this prime time for rumors to take hold. Microsoft and the Xbox are especially rife with rumors, given that the company is keeping its plans so tightly under wraps. Unlike Sony which has already detailed its main focus and Nintendo which is sure to be featuring Smash Bros., we don't actually know much about what Microsoft has in store. This year, the Xbox is a black box.

That leaves plenty of room for rumor and speculation, so we've compiled some of the biggest rumors below. If you want to check out even more scuttlebutt leading up to E3, check out our full list of rumors. Or stay more grounded with our list of every confirmed Xbox game appearing at the show so far.

We'll know which of these rumors pan out once the press conferences debut. Microsoft's is scheduled for Sunday, June 10 at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET. Bookmark our full conference schedule to plan all your viewing parties.

E3 2018 Rumors

Overcooked 2, Paladins, And More

While 4chan leaks are not especially reliable, a photo has surfaced that may in fact be real. It shows names for a variety of Nintendo Switch games that will apparently be advertised around the E3 show floor. This includes already-confirmed games like Mario Tennis Aces, but it also shows Fortnite (which, as noted above, looks to be real), Paladins, and Overcooked 2. Whereas Fortnite and Paladins would be ports of existing games, Overcooked 2 has not yet been announced--and it's possible that it could also come to PC, PS4, and Xbox One in addition to Switch, if it is indeed real.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey

A new Assassin's Creed was among the games seemingly leaked by Walmart Canada. Although that retailer listing was very non-specific--it didn't include a subtitle or number--we've now heard what could be the title for such a game. According to JeuxVideo, which reportedly received a photo of a collectible keychain, the new game is called Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The keychain itself consists of a helmet resembling one from Ancient Greece, perhaps indicating that will be the setting for the new game.

Update: Ubisoft apparently didn't feel like having the rumors swirl until E3, so it's decided to confirm that Assassin's Creed Odyssey is real. It offered up a very brief, 300-ish clip and stated Odyssey is indeed the name, but beyond that, we'll have to wait for E3 for more details.

Borderlands Getting PS4, Xbox One, PC Re-Release

We know a new Borderlands is eventually coming, whether it's called Borderlands 3 or something else. Gearbox denies it'll be at E3, and publisher 2K recently delayed an unannounced game, which could be that Borderlands title. But it looks as if E3 might not be completely devoid of Borderlands news, as the Korean ratings board has listed Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. While not official by any means, ratings board leaks are often a reliable source. Given the timing, we might just hear about this project at E3.

Gears Of War 5, New Assassin's Creed, Just Cause 4, And More

Many of the expectations for E3 2018 were set in one go. Retailers have been known to leak things from time to time, but Walmart's Canadian website seemed to potentially spoil quite a lot with a single leak. Listings for numerous unannounced games went online in May, including Rage 2, a new Assassin's Creed, Gears of War 5, Dragon Quest 2, and Just Cause 4.

The sheer number, combined with some typos--such as Forza "Horizons" 5, rather than what would be the series' next game, Forza Horizon 4--made it all seem unlikely. However, Bethesda had an unusual response to the whole situation, and soon after we learned that Rage 2 is real (and since then, Lego DC Super-Villains). Two games from this list turning out to be legitimate doesn't mean the others are anything but placeholders or errors, but it does lend some credence to the possibility of them being real.

A New Splinter Cell Will Be Revealed

Another game mentioned in the Walmart Canada leak was something simply titled Splinter Cell. This might also turn out to be nothing but a placeholder, but Ubisoft itself has certainly set fans up to expect some kind of news related to the franchise before long. Following Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot's comments last year, the company released a Splinter Cell-themed update for Ghost Recon Wildlands earlier this year. That not only set up the potential plot for a new Splinter Cell, but it marked the return of beloved Sam Fisher voice Michael Ironside--and it doesn't seem like a stretch to think Ubisoft brought him in for more than just a small cameo.

Fallout News Is Coming

This is less a rumor and more speculation, as fans believe we're nearing an announcement involving the Fallout franchise. Bethesda offered days of teases for Rage 2 before it was revealed, and, as of this writing, it's seemingly begun to do the same for Fallout. The company first tweeted a "please stand by" image similar to a screen we've seen in the series previously. Subsequently, it kicked off a livestream with the same image playing on a screen in the background, but with a Fallout Vault Boy figure in the foreground.

That's sparked speculation that we could see a new Fallout game or--perhaps more likely, given its Skyrim re-releases--a remastered version of Fallout 3 or 4, perhaps for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch. Bethesda has said this year's press conference could be its biggest ever; clearly it's got more than just Rage 2 and updates to The Elder Scrolls Online to talk about.

Update: Indeed, Fallout news has arrived. Bethesda Softworks has officially unveiled Fallout 76, a new game developed by Skyrim and Fallout dev Bethesda Game Studios. We don't know a ton at this point about how it will play, but Kotaku reports it will be have online-based survival elements. Bethesda said we'll be hearing more at E3; if that is the form the game takes, Bethesda is sure to provide some indication at E3.

Cyberpunk 2077 (Or Another CD Projekt Red Game) Will Be There

We know CD Projekt Red, the developer of the Witcher series and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, is attending E3. A listing on the official E3 website earlier this year suggested the studio would be there to show off an RPG, although that was later removed. The company has not yet announced its plans for the event--if it has anything to publicly show at all--but fans have their fingers crossed that Cyberpunk (or the studio's other triple-A RPG) will finally be revealed properly.

E3 2018 EA Press Conference: What Time Is It On And How To Watch

By Patrick Faller on Jun 01, 2018 08:07 pm

The details of EA's press conference at E3 2018 are out, and that means we're getting closer to seeing all the big announcements from one of the world's biggest video game companies. You'll be able to watch the event, which should be packed with news about Battlefield V and Anthem, here on GameSpot, and on our Twitter, YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook accounts.

Once again, EA's press conference is the first event of E3, taking place on the Saturday before everything gets underway in Los Angeles. The event actually kicks off three days of EA events; until June 11, EA Play takes place at a separate venue in Hollywood, featuring player events, featuring lots of demos and fan-centric content. Here's the exact schedule for EA's press conference:

EA E3 2018 Press Conference Start Time

Saturday, June 9

  • 11 AM PT
  • 2 PM ET
  • 7 PM BST
  • 4 AM AEST (June 10)

So far, we know EA will be dropping some news about Battlefield V, DICE's World War II first-person shooter. Here are all the Battlefield V details we have so far. The other big one, BioWare's Anthem, is still more of a mystery. Anthem will be an open-world action game with a very Destiny-esque feel. We know it will support co-op multiplayer that you will also be able to play it on your own, but there are still many questions left about gameplay and story (battle royale?). Here's everything we want from Anthem at E3.

We're also certain to hear more about EA's sports titles, as well, including Madden NFL 19, which has now been officially announced and will release on August 10 on PS4 and Xbox One. EA Play is open to the public, and if you'd like to attend you can pre-register for the show here.

E3 2018 PS4 Rumors: Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Borderlands, Cyberpunk 2077, More

By Array on Jun 01, 2018 08:07 pm

E3 2018 is nearly upon us, meaning the world is getting ready to hear more about their most anticipated games for the rest of the year and beyond. Apart from further insights about the big games still to come this year--such as Battlefield V, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and Red Dead Redemption 2--E3 typically offers a chance for games publishers to announce new projects.

What does that mean? Rumors, of course--and often leaks, too. The internet never lets us down in this department, and with an event as big as E3 just around the corner, now is prime time for this stuff to get out (or be fabricated!). We already saw Walmart Canada leak a bunch of unannounced games--some real, some we're less sure about--but there may well be more leaks on the way before announcement season kicks off with EA Play.

Following that, many of the industry's major publishers will hold their own conferences and events, including Sony and its PlayStation media briefing. The PS4 press conference starts on June 11 at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET (2 AM BST / 11 AM AET on June 12), and we already know we'll learn more about Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man, and The Last of Us: Part II.

This year's E3 unofficially gets underway with EA's pre-E3 event, EA Play, on June 9. That will be followed by press conferences from numerous other companies, which is where the bulk of E3's news will be revealed. For now though, check out our roundup of all the rumors and leaks that pertain to the world of PlayStation.

E3 2018 Rumors For PS4

Overcooked 2, Paladins, And More

While 4chan leaks are not especially reliable, a photo has surfaced that may in fact be real. Fallout 76 Will Be An Online Survival Game

Fallout 76 was revealed right before E3, and fans are understandably excited to dive back into the series' trademark post-apocalyptic wasteland. It might not be what you've come to expect from the open-world RPG franchise, however, as Kotaku's sources report it will be have online-based survival elements in a similar fashion to Rust or DayZ. Bethesda said we'll be hearing more at E3, so we'll surely find out more soon.

Cyberpunk 2077 (Or Another CD Projekt Red Game) Will Be There

E3 2018: Every Rumor So Far -- Fortnite Switch, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Borderlands

By Chris Pereira on Jun 01, 2018 08:06 pm

E3 2018 is right around the corner, and that means a ton of video game news, announcements, and reveals are almost upon us. Several of the show's biggest games--Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Battlefield V, Rage 2--have been announced in the weeks leading up to the event, but that doesn't mean E3 itself won't have some surprises in store for us. According to the rumor mill, there's quite a lot that could happen.

Rumors and leaks are par for the course, although last year was incredibly leak-heavy. 2018 has not yet proven to be quite as bad in that regard--save for the Walmart Canada incident--though there remains plenty of time for that to change (and it's certainly begun to). There have been rumors and reports about what we'll see at E3, and we've rounded up many of the biggest ones for you to peruse below. Some are much easier to believe than others, as is often the case. Compared with last year, though, it's going to be hard to top reports of a turn-based strategy game featuring Mario and Rabbids (although what was most surprising is the game turned out to be quite good).

This year's E3 unofficially gets underway with Electronic Arts' pre-E3 event, EA Play, on June 9. That will be followed by press conferences from numerous other companies, which is where the bulk of E3's news will be revealed. You can see the full E3 press conference schedule for more on when to expect news to roll in. In the meantime, check out all of the big rumors we've seen so far; we'll update this should any more arrive between now and E3.

E3 2018 Rumors

Fortnite Coming To Nintendo Switch

A Korean ratings board listing has revealed what could be an E3 surprise: A Nintendo Switch port of Fortnite. The listing doesn't specify which of the game's modes--Save the World or the phenomenally popular Battle Royale--will be included, but it's hard to imagine the latter would not make the cut.

Star Fox Is Getting A Racing Game Called Grand Prix

The Star Fox franchise hasn't seen much activity in recent years save for the Wii U game Star Fox Zero, but that may change in the near future. According to leaks published around the internet and a report from Eurogamer, Retro Studios--of Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country Returns fame--is at work on a racing game called Star Fox: Grand Prix. Reddit user DasVergeben claims it will feature elements of F-Zero and Diddy Kong Racing, with an adventure mode and hub world.

N64 Classic Edition Will Be Announced

While not E3-specific, there have been rumors about an N64 Classic Edition since the release of the NES Classic. With both that system and the subsequent SNES Classic proving to be huge successes, it would be no surprise to see Nintendo continue the trend by bringing a mini version of the Nintendo 64 to the market. Trademark filings have also suggested it's something Nintendo is at least considering, and Nintendo would be the ideal place to reveal its existence.

Monster Hunter World Adds New Elder Dragon, Here Are The Patch Notes

By Kevin Knezevic on Jun 01, 2018 08:05 pm

Monster Hunter World's 4.0 update is now available on PS4 and Xbox One. The patch, which weighs in at approximately 550 MB on Sony's console and 570 MB on Microsoft's, makes a long list of bug fixes and changes to the game, along with introducing a fearsome new monster to hunt.

The biggest addition to the game is Lunastra, a returning Elder Dragon from the series' 2006 installment, Monster Hunter 2. Known as the "Empress of Flame," Lunastra is the female counterpart of Teostra. She can unleash powerful attacks with her mate, and Capcom says her "capacity to alter the environment around her is unmatched."

Players can use the materials they gather from Lunastra to craft two new sets of armor for their hunters, Lunastra α and Lunastra β, as well as a variety of weapons and an adorable new costume for their Palico. Capcom says these materials also "resonate" with those from other monsters, particularly Nergigante and Xeno'jiiva. You can take a look at some screenshots of the new Lunastra gear below.

In addition to Lunastra, the 4.0 update introduces a new specialized tool called the Temporal Mantel, which "nullifies damage from powerful attacks by automatically evading." Capcom has also made a handful of gameplay adjustments. Most notably, players can now discover investigations for Tempered monsters when hunting one or breaking off its parts, and the developer says it should now be easier to pet the Poogie.

Rounding out the update are an assortment of bug fixes, many of which center on the Kulve Taroth Siege. In particular, Capcom has fixed an issue that would cause the Siege to end when a player goes to another quest. You can find the full list of changes in the patch notes for the 4.0 update, courtesy of Capcom's official blog, below.

Monster Hunter World Update 4.0 Patch Notes

Major Additions and Changes

  • You will now also discover investigations for tempered monsters when hunting a tempered monster or breaking its parts.
  • You can now change armor pigments and layered armor at all item boxes found within Astera (except the Training Area) or the Research Base.
  • It's now easier to successfully pet the Poogie.
  • The camera will not be forcibly moved by Scoutfly guidance when arriving at camp at the start of a quest.
  • The trophy conditions for "Monster Ph.D." were updated to no longer include monsters added in free title updates.
  • With this design change, you can now unlock the trophy/achievement by speaking to Ecological Research if you've already maxed out the research levels for the original lineup of monsters.
  • When performing the Shoryuken or Hadoken gestures, male characters (or armor that makes you look like a male character) will now use Ryu's voice from Street Fighter V, while female characters (or armor that makes you look like a female character) will now use Sakura's voice from Street Fighter V.

Bug Fixes

  • Regarding the problem of the new guild card lighting system introduced in Ver. 2.00 affecting the appearance of a player's character, the light settings have been adjusted to make it look similar to the lighting before Ver. 1.06.
  • Fixed a bug where only medals, not trophies, would be unlocked when ending the game while it is processing unlocked trophies and medals at the result screen. With this fix, if you have unlocked a medal but not a trophy, it will be unlocked the next time you get to a result screen.
  • Fixed a bug where Kulve Taroth's broken horn cutscene was interrupted and the siege could not be completed when Kulve Taroth's horns took separate damage right at the time they were completely broken off.
  • Fixed a bug where Kulve Taroth would go into an attack phase in area 1 and would not move to the next area, resulting in the siege becoming impossible to complete.
  • Fixed a bug where the siege of Kulve Taroth would end when a member of the siege goes to another quest, expedition or to the training area. This has been fixed so the siege can be continued.
  • Fixed a bug that occurs during the "Banquet in the Earthen Hall" quest when you open your Hunter's Notes while in the tent just as Kulve Taroth's horns are completely broken, causing the battle music to continue playing while the quest complete music plays on top of it.
  • Fixed terrain-related bugs in some locales.
  • Fixed a bug where a player would get an infinite buff under certain criteria upon a successful Foresight Slash.
  • Fixed a phenomenon where specific controls would allow you to link the Charge Blade's Super Amped Element Discharge into an Amped Element Discharge. This was unintended and after considering how it affects the game's balance, it has been removed.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed the player to face in a direction other than the reticle just before Wyvernheart is fired.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Gastodon to spot players in their territory even when wearing a Ghillie Mantle or hiding in bushes.
  • Fixed an issue where gestures could be performed when afflicted with any five elemental blights, blastblight, bleeding, but could not be performed when poisoned or afflicted with effluvium.
  • Fixed a bug where food skills would not be reflected on your Palico when joining a quest as a guest after eating at base.
  • Fixed a bug where the lighting on the two guns in the Devil May Cry Dual Guns gesture was not applied properly, making them look they were floating.
  • Fixed a bug where the Elderseal value for the weapon Taroth Buster "Decay" was set to "None". It has now been changed to "Mid".
  • Due to a data error, Taroth Strongarm "King" (Rarity 7) parameters were the same as King Gold Cutter (Rarity 6) in all areas except for number of augmentation slots. The Taroth Strongarm "King" has been updated with the following values.
    • Elemental Value: Fire 12 > Fire 18
    • Affinity: 20 > 30
  • Due to a data error, Felyne Lavasioth Helm α's elemental resistance had the same values as Felyne Uragaan Helm α. The following values are now applied to Felyne Lavasioth Helm α.
    • Fire Resistance: 4 > 3
    • Water Resistance: -3 > -3
    • Thunder Resistance: 1 > -1
    • Ice Resistance: -2 > 1
    • Dragon Resistance: -2 > 3
  • The Felyne Azure Star series was mistakenly marked as rarity 2 from Ver. 2.00 and onward. It has now been reverted back to rarity 3.
  • Fixed a bug where a beard set on a female character during character creation would not appear when equipping the Kulve Taroth β armor set.
  • The following bugs related to armor appearance have been fixed.
    1. Some visual bugs affecting the female Azure Starlord Armor α were fixed.
    2. Some visual bugs affecting the female Rathalos Coil β and Rath Soul Coil β armor were fixed.
    3. Some visual bugs affecting the female Vaal Hazak Braces α armor were fixed.
    4. Hair pops out less now while wearing the female Xeno'jiiva Headgear α/β, Vaal Hazak Helm α, Jyura Helm α, and Blossom Headgear α armor.
    5. Hair pops out less now while wearing the male Butterfly Vertex (Low Rank, α and β) and Kirin Horn α armor.
