The Xbox One's backwards compatibility feature, introduced in November 2015, lets you play original Xbox and Xbox 360 games on the current-gen console. But what games are available? We've rounded them all up--and we'll continue to update this post as new games are made available to the extensive list. More are added regularly, although new original Xbox games will be less common. [Updated June 26 with three more games.]

Since the feature was first introduced back in 2015, Microsoft has been steadily expanding Xbox One's library of backwards compatible games. That support continues with the addition of three more Xbox 360 titles, which are now playable on the current-gen console.
Microsoft's Major Nelson announced the new lineup of BC games on Twitter. First is the classic soccer sim Sensible World of Soccer, which arrives on Xbox One in time for the ongoing World Cup. Joining it is the racing sim Grid Autosport, as well as the Fable spin-off Fable Heroes. Unlike other entries in the RPG series, Heroes is a hack-and-slash game that features a cartoonier visual style and four-player co-op.
If you still have a physical copy of Grid Autosport, you can simply pop its disc into your Xbox One and begin playing. Likewise, if you own Sensible World of Soccer or Fable Heroes digitally on Xbox 360, the games will automatically appear in the Ready to Download section of Xbox One's My Games and Apps area. You can also buy any of these games digitally from the Microsoft Store.
Microsoft has regularly been adding games to Xbox One's BC library. The most recent was the popular Xbox 360 shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which was updated with backwards compatibility last week. In addition to 360 titles, Microsoft recently began introducing original Xbox games to Xbox One's BC library, with 18 arriving back in April. You can see everything in our full list of backwards compatibility games.
The next film from Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino is a supernatural horror movie called Suspiria. Set for release this November, it's scored by Radiohead's Thom Yorke, and stars Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, and Chloë Grace Moretz. The recent trailer reveals little of the plot, choosing instead to present only a series of nightmarish images showing panicked ballet dancers, bloody silhouettes, and ominous glances exchanged wordlessly while queasy strings and distorted synthetic horns play over the footage.
Despite the talent associated with it, Suspiria's very existence has been met with a degree of suspicion--not because of its director or stars, but because it's a remake of a widely revered horror classic. The original, directed by famed Italian screenwriter and director Dario Argento, has enjoyed a hallowed reputation since its 1977 release. Its standing in the genre is well-earned.
Suspiria, like so many great movies, is more than the sum of its parts. Its plot is pretty simple: An American dancer named Suzy Bannion (Jessica Harper) arrives in Freiburg, Germany to attend a prestigious ballet school. On her first night, a student is murdered; on her first day, she contracts a mysterious illness. Strange, disturbing events happen one after the other in quick succession: Maggots rain from the school's ceiling, a blind pianist is mauled by his usually gentle guide dog, and a classmate disappears without explanation after investigating rumors that the school was founded by a woman accused of witchcraft.
Detailing Suspiria's plot does little to explain why it's so effective, though. From the opening scene onward, it's the movie's visual composition and soundtrack that make it so striking. As soon as the credits--black and white titles set to a crescendo of maddeningly squeaky violins and pounding drums--end, Suzy steps out of the airport into a torrential downpour. The theme song, used again and again throughout the film, begins playing as she sits, drenched, in a taxi.
Written and performed by Goblin (who also scored George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead a year later), the theme consists of a spidery harpsichord, a bowed drum beat, incomprehensible whispers, and a man's voice echoing the haunting melody in a rasping, schoolyard taunt. Along with shots of Freiburg's deserted, nighttime streets and the forbidding, blackened woods the cab drives through, the effect is both immediately unsettling and evocative of horror as classic as Jonathan Harker's late night arrival at Count Dracula's castle.
In one of the best examples of Suspiria's look, a seemingly mundane conversation about the school director's strange way of snoring becomes incredibly threatening. The characters discuss the noise while reclining on cots in front of a sheet where the silhouette of the director's sleeping body lies framed between them the entire time. The room is cast entirely in red light, the shape of the director represented as an indistinct shadow. The music that plays just before their conversation starts--faintly, creeping in just beneath their words--is filled with anguished moans, more harpsichord, and a driving, loose-stringed acoustic guitar, priming the scene to be far more discomforting than a description of it warrants. The director, true to their discussion, breathes like a wolf with emphysema. The combination of the scene's otherworldly red lighting and Goblin's haunting score gives it the impression of a waking nightmare.
Describing the construction of the film's best scenes and use of its exceptional soundtrack is the only way to capture why it's so admired. Suspiria's look and sound are what make it work so well, and why it's such a unique film. While it shares plot points with familiar supernatural horror movies about ghosts and demonic possession, it's too restrained to fit neatly within the same genre; at least two of its most gruesome character deaths resemble slasher movies, too, but the straightforward thrills of killer chase sequences and inventively repulsive gore scenes are only infrequently indulged. Suspiria doesn't belong to any category, really, other than the broadest possible one: horror.
This year's remake, wisely, doesn't look to be attempting a straightforward adaptation of Argento's original. Rather than copy Suspiria's singular visual style or reuse its soundtrack, Guadagnino's take on the movie seems to be inspired by its source material, rather than a strict recreation of it. This seems like the best possible approach. The 1977 Suspiria has become a classic because it stands apart from other horror movies in tone and style. To honor its legacy, more than four decades later, the 2018 version needs to follow in its predecessor's footsteps by, paradoxically, refusing to follow them too closely.
Rockstar Games' follow-up to the classic western game Red Dead Redemption is fast approaching. Set 12 years before the events of the original game, Red Dead Redemption II will explore an expansive region of the American wilderness, with Dutch Van der Linde's gang on the run from lawmen during the last years of the wild west. Experiencing Rockstar's take on the open-world western from a new perspective, you'll uncover the history of the Van Der Linde gang, which has a young John Marston in its thralls.
Despite the game releasing in only a few months on PS4 and Xbox One, we're still largely in the dark about what we can expect from the massive open-world game. Surprisingly, Red Dead Redemption II was also a no show at this year's E3. Still, the recent trailers, screenshots, and info have given us plenty to talk about. Here's everything we know so far about Rockstar Games' upcoming open-world western.
How Can I Play RDR2?
Red Dead Redemption 2 is set for release on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One. There are also plans for a collector's edition of the game called the Special Edition. Priced at $80, the package includes a copy of the game along with special missions, weapons and a physical map of the game world for players to own. There is also two additional packs for Red Dead Redemption II for premium prices, The Ultimate Edition and The Collector's Box--both priced at $100. While The Ultimate Edition has all items from the special edition--including additional DLC items to acquire--The Collector's Box does not include any digital items. Instead, it offers special playing cards, artwork, a bandit's bandana, a physical map of the game world, and a collector's coin in the set.
Though the original Red Dead Redemption never found its way to the PC, there's been some rumors of the sequel finding its way to PC. Recently, a mention of Red Dead Redemption 2's appearance on PC found its way online, but has since been scrubbed.
Where Is RDR2 Set, And Is It A Prequel?
Set 12 years before the main events of original game, the prequel focuses on the outlaw life of the Van der Linde gang, led by Red Dead Redemption's main antagonists. After a robbery in Blackwater (one of the original game's major towns) goes bad--the gang finds themselves on the run. Dutch, his right-hand man Arthur Morgan, and several members of the gang will have to contend with life on-the-run while their situation grows more desperate after each confrontation with rival gangs and the law.
Rockstar also released a description of the plot:
America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed. After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.
The First Reveal
Debuting on October 20, 2016, the first trailer for Red Dead Redemption II was a bit of a mood piece that showcased many locales in the game, while also displaying the somber tone of the main narrative. In this trailer, we saw several towns and locales, many of which are teeming with life and activity--such as ranchers rustling up some cattle, huntsmen bringing back their haul, and a group of citizens hanging out in the general store.
Who Are We Playing As?
Though the central character of Red Dead Redemption, John Marston, plays some role in the story--the main protagonist of the prequel is Arthur Morgan. As Dutch's right-hand man and enforcer for the gang, he'll handle much of the daily duties of keeping the gang in-check--which includes a young and less-experienced John Marston. When it comes to keeping the gang and its community afloat, Morgan is quite handy with picking up various jobs to ensure everyone is well fed and in good spirits. But as the story progresses, he'll begin to question his own resolve for Dutch's way of life, and whether he still has a place in the gang.
The Second Trailer
On September 28, 2017, the second trailer for Red Dead Redemption II debuted. In the new footage, we got to see more of Arthur Morgan and how ruthless he can be while on the job. During some of the story cutscenes, Morgan will use coercion and physical threats to collect money and information, all for the "benefit" of the community.
For more info on this particular trailer, check out our detailed breakdown.
Who's In Dutch's Gang?
In Red Dead Redemption II, we'll see Dutch's gang and its key players in their prime. While the original game had John hunt down and kill the remaining members of the gang, we'll see many the familiar faces in relatively happier times. From the most recent trailer, we see Dutch Van der Linde, Arthur Morgan, Bill Williamson, Javier Esquela, and of course John Marston in the roster. We'll also interact with other characters who would have a key role in the gang and in the lives of Arthur Morgan and John Marston.
What's New In Red Dead Redemption 2?
While the sequel is largely in the same vein as its predecessor, focusing on exploration, hunting, shoot-outs, heists, and other side-activities where you'll interact with a number of unique characters--Red Dead Redemption II features a far more expansive world to dive into. Rockstar has been tight-lipped about spilling any details. However, from what we've gleaned from trailers and official info, we can tell there's a greater focus on tracking the impact you have on the world. The honor system from the original game makes a return, but now with far more detailed tracking. Along with the average citizen, members of your community will also react to how well or how poorly you treat them. As the lead enforcer, Morgan will have to handle a ton of responsibilities, such as resource gathering, procuring funds, and making sure everyone in the community is happy.
How will online multiplayer work?
Currently, Rockstar hasn't shared any info on how the online play will function. The original Red Dead Redemption featured online free-for-all and team deathmatch style gameplay in the open world, along with several co-op themed missions. While it's safe to assume that these sorts of missions will return, another long-lingering rumor is the appearance of a battle royale mode. In the coming months before its release, we should expect to hear more about what Red Dead Redemption II will have when it comes to online.
The Third Trailer
In the new footage released on May 2, we saw a deeper look into the game's narrative and how the gang functions. Along with the familiar activities like hunting, heists, and side-quests with the region's citizens, rob trains and banks, and take in shows at theaters. For the most part, the trailer focuses on the many connections you'll have the members of the gang, and how your choices will affect them.
The History Of Red Dead - A look back on the history of the Red Dead series. From the early days a Gunsmoke spiritual sequel, to Rockstar Games' next successful open word game.
As DICE's big return to World War II, Battlefield V will go back to the series' origins while showing a different perspective and level of detail to the epic conflict. Based on what we saw from the May reveal livestream and EA's showing at E3, we saw a rather extensive breakdown of the game's content, along with confirmation of the rumored battle royale mode--which they didn't shared too many details on. Still, we have a better idea of what's to come in the next Battlefield game, so here's everything we know so far about Battlefield's return to World War II.
Battlefield V is an upcoming World War II first-person shooter developed by DICE, the same developer behind the entire franchise, including the original Battlefield 1942. Players will take part in several large-scale land, sea, and air battles during the Second World War, continuing a series tradition. Focusing on British and European forces--with other sides coming in later updates--you'll see unique perspectives of the conflict, including the Northern African campaign, the Battle of Rotterdam, and the occupation of Norway. With a greater focus on in-game storytelling, both in the returning War Stories and multiplayer matches, players will also have the chance to create their own unique squad of soldiers and take them on a series of missions online in co-op and multiplayer.
How Can I Play Battlefield V?
Battlefield V will be available on PC (via Origin), PS4, and Xbox One for all users on October 19. However, players who subscribe to EA/Origin Access and who pre-order the game will be able to access the free trial early on October 11. Pre-ordering the Deluxe Edition will open up the game on October 16. However, the developer is also planning an open beta at an unspecified date, allowing everyone to get a chance to experience the game prior to its October launch.
What's New In Battlefield V?
While the focus is still on class-based engagements in battles with large player counts, Battlefield V will incorporate several new features into the mix. In the trailer, we saw a squad of soldiers taking part in a large-scale fight in the French countryside. These particular characters had a unique look to them--one had blue face paint, and another female soldier had a prosthetic limb. This helped to showcase one of the bigger focuses in Battlefield V, which is squad customization. With the class system making a return, players will also be able to select a class and outfit that soldier--either male or female--with whatever tools, weapons, and cosmetic items they like. Furthermore, you can upgrade these classes to a particular specialization, such as the Assault class focusing more on anti-tank skills.
Added to this is a greater level of detail and physics that are several steps above previous Battlefield titles. The developers stressed they wanted to add more elements of realism, while still retaining the fun and excitement found in the Battlefield series. For starters, the player and weapon animations and physics have been overhauled to offer a more tactical and kinetic feel. Soldiers now have a greater range of movement, which includes reverse-prone (on your back), sliding, shooting while sliding, and several other maneuvers--like grabbing nearby walls and gates. Moreover, weapons now have more weight behind them, allowing players to get more of a sense of the force behind each shot.
The new animations also help with gameplay balancing, which was a recurring problem in Battlefield 1. Medics for instance will have to take more care with reviving players--even dragging wounded soldiers away if they have to--as doing so will take a bit more time when compared to the infamous "Medic-trains" of past games. Other gameplay tweaks include the removal of auto-spotting--pushing players to be more proactive with marking enemies and objectives--and offering more opportunities for players to regain resources from fallen enemies, such as ammo and explosive charges.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of the key modes and features discussed during the reveal livestream and from EA's presentation at E3 2018:
War Stories: This mode, which returns from Battlefield 1, an anthology series of story missions that showcase many of the struggles and moments of heroism during the most trying battles of World War II. The War Stories in V will focus more on battles and perspectives that aren't all that well-known. During the livestream and at EA Play, we saw a teaser for one of the War Stories set during the German occupation of Norway in 1943. You play as a young resistance fighter who has to confront the invading forces while trying to protect her loved ones. While the last game launched with only six story War Story missions, Battlefield V will launch with its own set of missions and will gradually see new ones added as a part of ongoing content updates for the game.
Grand Operations: As an evolution of the Operations mode--long-form, narrative-driven multiplayer matches set across a series of maps and gametypes--Grand Operations takes things further by incorporating new gametypes and locales. Taking place over several in-game days, Grand Operations features a tug-of-war-style approach to engagement. Each victory will give the winning side added momentum, while the losing side will have to overcome increasingly difficult obstacles--including less ammo and tickets for the next round. Compared to Battlefield 1's Operations, the next game will feature more variety in its locations, objectives, and special conditions for both sides.
Combined Arms: In a brand new four-player co-op mode, players can take their custom soldier online to take part in a series of missions with other players. In these levels, the soldiers will have to complete a variety of different objectives, such as paratrooping behind enemy lines to secure key assets. Putting players in battles against increasingly difficult odds with challenging goals, an AI mission director will add in new obstacles and spawn enemies depending on how your squad is performing. All progress gained from Combined Arms for your soldier and their class can be carried over into the core multiplayer mode.
Royale Mode: After weeks of rumors, At EA Play, creative director Lars Gustavsson revealed that Battlefield V will be getting its own take on the popular Battle Royale sub-genre. In the vein of games like Fortnite and PUBG, DICE's shooter will have its own unique take on game-type, "reimagined for Battlefield" said the creative director. Though the mode was revealed, the developers didn't share any details on the game type and the sort of scale it will have. Considering it's a Battlefield game, however, it's safe to say that it will still be about large scale combat and that it will have destructibility.
Fortifications: In response to the pace of the Conquest mode in past games, DICE created a new feature called Fortifications to affect the speed at which buildings and forms of cover are destroyed. With the new fortification skill, you and your squad can reinforce areas of the map with added defense against enemy bombardment. This includes fortifying buildings, adding gunner nests, and even fortifying flags that the enemy will try to capture. Building fortifications will cost resources, so players will have to carefully choose what they want to build.
Tides of War: DICE plans to gradually roll out new content on a set schedule known as the Tides of War. This feature will also introduce timed events focusing on particular battles with set conditions, pathways to special rewards, and special community events centering around a battle of the war. Eventually, Tides of War will add in new sides to experience the war from, along with new maps and weapons to acquire. Interestingly, this calendar will also match up with a similar timeline from the events of World War II, with new sides and locations gradually being added into the game as it happened during the six-year conflict.
Will There Be Microtransactions?
In a surprising move--no doubt influenced by the initial reception from Star Wars: Battlefront II--Battlefield V will no longer have a season pass or Premium Edition, which were mainstays for most recent Battlefield games. Though players can spend real money on custom items for their characters, all in-game content and events--which includes maps, story missions, and game modes--will all be available through regular updates for all players. During the stream, the developers stated that the game will not be "pay to win." With that said, a Deluxe Edition will be available still, though the developers didn't elaborate further on its contents during the livestream. We will likely hear more about the specifics during E3 and in the months leading up to the game's launch.
Blizzard has been teasing something new for Overwatch lately, while staying ambiguous about what it actually is. The latest teaser does little to clear up whether we're getting a new hero, map, or something else entirely, but is interesting nevertheless. Taking place in the same back street (believed to be in the King's Row map) as the previous teaser, the six second video shows a large boulder rolling by very briefly.
However, on closer inspection it seems there's more to this boulder than initially meets the eye. It's clearly not your standard issue Raiders of the Lost Ark rock boulder, as there are small lights on it and it looks to be armoured. This boulder could be an ability that the prospective new hero--Hero 28--has, or actually be the new hero.
Thus far the speculation has been that the new hero may turn out to be Hammond, another animal that was experimented on alongside Winston. In the Horizon Lunar Colony map his whereabouts are listed as unknown, so he's out there somewhere. As for the rolling part of it, it could be a different take on Reinhardt's Charge, which is used for targeting single enemies and pinning them. A giant rolling hero would be pretty useful for breaking defences and scattering enemies.
Overwatch currently has 27 characters, the most recent being Brigitte, a Support hero that is capable of healing teammates, equipping a barrier shield, and stunning enemies. So far, Blizzard hasn't given any indication of what to expect from the next character or when we'll be able to play it.
Discussing the future of the game, Blizzard has said it isn't looking at moving on to an Overwatch 2. "What people might not realize is the team now is significantly bigger than what it was when we shipped the game, and we have put all of that into working on the live game and the new maps, heroes, and events like Anniversary," the studio said recently. "At least for the time being, [supporting Overwatch] is our focus right now, and we're excited to work on this game."

Nintendo is offering several Labo-themed prizes for the company's upcoming Creators Contest. The contest begins July 19 and continues through August 20. Some of the prizes are collectible Nintendo Switch accessories with custom cardboard paint designs.
One grand prize winner will receive a collectable Nintendo Switch system with a cardboard-themed paint job, a Labo Creators jacket, and a framed award certificate. Four runner-ups will win a pair of Joy-Con controllers with a cardboard-themed paint job and a Labo Creators jacket.
There are two categories that contestants can enter: Best Toy-Con Musical Instrument and Best Gaming Experience Using Toy-Con Garage. The first asks for musical instruments created with Toy-Con Garage, whether the instrument already exists or comes from a contestant's imagination. The latter category accepts games created in Toy-Con Garage that display both quality and creativity. Regardless of which category you choose, Nintendo asks entrants submit a YouTube video of their creation in action to enter the contest. If you've previously submitted a creation to a past Creators Contest, you can resubmit it into this one if you want.
This contest is only the most recent development in Nintendo's continued support of the Labo. The company also released a trailer for a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe update that adds Toy-Con compatibility to the game, allowing players to drive with the Motorbike Toy-Con from the Nintendo Labo Variety Kit as they race around the track.
What other games do you want to see get Toy-Con support? Leave your answer in the comments section below.
As one of the early MOBA games on mobile platforms, Tencent's Arena of Valor has steadily become one of the most popular competitive games on the planet. Known as Kings of Glory in China, the mobile multiplayer-online-battle-arena game brings players together in 5v5 competitions to capture territory and defeat enemies as they level up and gain new powers for their chosen hero. In the years since its 2015 debt, Arena of Valor has launched in the US and has become one of the highest grossing games on the app store, even finding further success as an esports event game. Moreover, Arena of Valor has also seen some surprising crossovers happen with the appearance of DC comic book characters such as Batman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, The Joker, and Superman.
Arena of Valor has grown considerably over the years, and this year it will make its next big move as it debuts on the Nintendo Switch, continuing the game's on-the-go tradition. We recently got to try out the game on the Switch, and it definitely feels like a more upgraded take on the game's fast and dynamic MOBA gameplay. The Switch port of Arena of Valor will get a whole new set of features, including a new customizable control scheme utilizing the Joy-Cons, improved graphics and performance, and all content from the current version of the mobile game. The title is set for release sometime this fall, but an upcoming closed beta will allow players to get a taste of what's to come for the Switch version.
The closed beta runs from June 28 to July 12. In it, you'll be able to take part in single-player (against AI) and online matches with the game's roster of more than 30 heroes--sans DC Comic characters, unfortunately. Primarily, the developers will focus on improving the game's online and technical performances. While the beta currently runs at 45 frames-per-second and at 900p resolution, the studio is aiming to reach 60 frames-per-second and 1080p for the full release later this year. This is the second beta for Arena of Valor on Switch; the previous one, however, was only held in Europe. The upcoming closed beta will mark the first time both US and European players will be able to participate in the beta.
The developers have been working closely with Nintendo on the Switch port, which they plan to have stand alongside the mobile version. For its full release, the Switch version of Arena of Valor will have a full roster of heroes and other content currently available in the mobile version--along with all its own unique upgrades. However, both the console and mobile releases will focus on maintaining separate eco-systems, which will prevent cross-play between players on different platforms. The lack of cross-play was a conscious choice on the part of the developers, as they believed that the Switch's growing player-base would need its own separate pool to grow organically alongside the mobile audience.
As the first MOBA game on Switch, Arena of Valor plans to carry on the fast-paced competitive gameplay and action from the original game for its new platform. With more than 200 million active players globally, the launch on Switch--which has seen record breaking success in its first year--could be another win for Tencent and its popular MOBA game. To sign up for the beta, you can apply online at this link.
Nintendo has rolled out a new update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch. On top of resolving a small handful of bugs, the patch introduces an unexpected new feature to the mascot racer: Toy-Con compatibility.
After installing the update, players will be able to use the Motorbike Toy-Con from the Nintendo Labo Variety Kit to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The cardboard controller can be selected from the new Toy-Con icon that appears along the bottom of the game's main menu screen, and it works with all of the game's modes and vehicles. Provided you have four Toy-Cons laying around, up to four players can play together using the new control method locally.
Nintendo shared a short video demonstrating how the Toy-Con works with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Players accelerate by twisting the Motorbike's right handlebar and steer their kart around the track by moving the handlebars side to side. Selecting the Toy-Con also sets the camera closer to your character, which Nintendo says "increas[es] immersion." Drifting, braking, and throwing items are all handled by pressing their corresponding Joy-Con buttons.
In addition to Toy-Con compatibility, the new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe update addresses a couple of bugs in the game. Specifically, it resolves an issue that would cause the "Search by Code" function to stop working after setting up a tournament. It also fixes a bug that would prevent players from continuing after they collide with a Star Thwomp. You can read the patch notes for the update on Nintendo's support website.
With this patch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has become the first game outside of Labo to support Toy-Cons, although Nintendo teases that it won't be the last. The patch also coincides with the announcement of a new Nintendo Labo contest. Players have from July 19 through August 20 to create either a musical instrument or gaming experience using the Toy-Con Garage feature. Those with the best creations will earn a number of prizes, potentially including a cardboard-themed Nintendo Switch.

When you visit Disneyland or Walt Disney World, there's a couple of things you probably expect: thousands of people standing between you and a Dole Whip, and, of course, a lot of time spent in line for various rides. Though theme park technology has advanced as far as cutting-edge visuals and over-the-top thrills go, a way to get rid of lines simply hasn't been invented yet.
A new app from Disney aims to make the experience much easier to handle, though. Play Disney Parks, which will be available on iOS and Android devices on June 30 with support for Disneyland and Walt Disney World, introduces games to play while waiting in certain lines, music to listen to while you roam the parks, location-specific trivia challenges, and even a bevy of achievements to add a competitive edge to your adventure.
For the developers behind the app, Play Disney Parks is all about giving those who want to play a deeper and more interactive experience while visiting the parks. "This app allows our guests to feel a powerful and emotional connection to their favorite parks in a whole new way, which is always our goal," Dan Soto, Vice President, Digital Experience, Disney Parks and Resort Digital, tells GameSpot.
Ahead of the app's release, GameSpot was given the exclusive chance to test out Play Disney Parks and speak with the developers to find out how exactly it works, and what it brings to the theme park experience.
What does it look like?
The experience starts with the launch of the app. After you select the park you're visiting, a map will appear--the game board--which looks very reminiscent of the style of art seen in the ride It's a Small World. "Mary Blair is a Disney Legend and one of the original Imagineers--she created the iconic style for It's a Small World and her work was absolutely an inspiration to the design team," Walt Disney Executive R&D Imagineer Josh Gorin says.
Game on
The biggest feature of the app is the introduction of a series of mini-games themed to specific rides and areas of the park. "A major transformative aspect of Play Disney Parks is turning wait time into play time," Soto says.
At launch, there are four different games designed to help pass time in line, each themed to individual ride queues--unlockable when near the queues thanks to Bluetooth connectivity. Peter Pan's Flight, Toy Story Midway Mania, and Space Mountain each have new games park-goers can play at both the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World. Additionally, Walt Disney World's new Toy Story Land gets an added game themed to the Slinky Dog Dash Roller Coaster.
GameSpot had the opportunity to play the Peter Pan's Flight game--Off To Never Land--at Disneyland, and it really does keep you engaged while waiting in line. It's not a particularly difficult game--none of them are--but they take your mind off of the wait and keep you engaged with whoever is in your group. You search out physical items in the line queue, answer questions with your group, and ultimately unlock a small animatronic experience in line just before boarding the ride.
To make this happen, the app team didn't just rely on what already exists in the intricately-designed queues. Instead, it added new physical elements to the area, ranging from items hidden throughout the queues that are specifically tied to the app and lanterns that are part of the finale experience. They won't stand out if you're not using the app, though. It came as a surprise to learn that these new touches weren't always part of the queue.
The other games, which are pinned to Space Mountain and Toy Story Midway Mania, are similar in that the goal is more for a fun experience, rather than a difficult challenge. They're designed to keep you busy and engaged in whatever story the ride is about to tell, rather than browsing social media or staring into space. The added incentive of the in-line physical experiences--Space Mountain has you race spaceships you build against others in line, while the Midway Mania mini-game unlocks a physical effect near the front of the queue--acts as your reward for making it to the front of the line.
The app has also integrated games previously available in various Disney parks, including Agent P's World Showcase Adventure at Epcot Center and the Colorwheel Challenge at Disney's California Adventure. Additionally, there are a series of trivia challenges included in the app throughout all of the parks, themed to different lands. They're not easy, though. Still, if you don't score well--I didn't--it'll just make you want to try again or give another test a try elsewhere in the park.
How to prove you're the best
With so many games and challenges throughout the app, you might be wondering how you keep track of your score or progress. That's where the achievement system comes in. Users will get achievements for completing games, winning trivia challenges, riding rides, and even simply walking through various places within the park. The app will track them, but users can also share them via social media. Earning ride achievements is as simple as having Bluetooth enabled on your phone and the app running in the background.
While the app is launching with an initial set of achievements, Gorin says the Play Disney Parks team is planning a more complex set of achievements in time, which will allow repeat Disney parks visitors the opportunity to battle it out with each other to see who can unlock the most. "We have a lot of ideas," he says.
Songs in the key of Disney
A big component in setting the mood when it comes to Disney parks is the music. Whether it's songs associated with Disney movies, music from rides themselves, and even unique audio specific to the parks--like Walt Disney's dedication speech for Disneyland, which is the first track of the Main Street USA playlist.
Thanks to a partnership with Apple Music, users on iOS devices will have access to playlists in the park that are customized to whatever land you happen to be in. "The Disney Music Group and Imagineering music teams were able to tap into Apple Music's massive library of songs to create a ton of unique playlists of tracks from, inspired by, and evocative of our park lands, attractions, and characters," Gorin says. There's even a road trip playlist to listen to on your way to the parks.
Looking to the future
While Play Disney Parks is launching with mini-games themed to rides like Peter Pan's Flight and Space Mountain, the team is already working on updates to introduce more in-park experiences. While that includes existing rides and lands, Play Disney Parks is also looking toward the future--or rather a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
The upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the Star Wars-themed section being built in both Disneyland and Disney World, is being designed with the app in mind. "The Play Disney Parks team has been working side by side with the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge team to build these kinds of interactive layers from the very start," Gorin teases. "We have some very special things planned for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge."
And it's not just the new Star Wars land that will expand the app's functionality. "This launch is only the beginning, as we have plans to continue evolving the experience with more content, new technology and expanded experiences--including more in-queue games, new challenges, and achievements," Soto explains.
The bottom line
Play Disney Parks is launching on iOS and Android devices on June 30 and they are available for pre-order now. To connect to the majority of the games and experiences, you'll simply need a data connection and Bluetooth capabilities. It's also not a requirement for enjoying your day in the park.
While it brings a new shade of fun to waiting in line or passing time until a parade begins, the standard park experiences also are not dependent on it. Instead, the entire goal of the app is to bring a new layer of interactivity to those who want to play along--especially as the parks move into the future and continue to integrate it. Just make sure you bring a spare phone charger with you--or you can rent them in the parks.
It's not uncommon for Fortnite items to be added and removed, but the game's first vehicles--shopping carts--have been in and out an inordinate amount. Issues with the shopping cart saw the vehicle removed once again recently, but Epic has announced it has been re-enabled in Battle Royale across all platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile.
Epic shared the news on Fortnite's Twitter account, though that's inevitably led to quips from players asking how long this will be the case for. This most recent period saw it disabled for almost a full week, and this is just one of multiple instances where Epic has temporarily pulled the vehicle from the game.
Being Fortnite's first vehicle, it seems as if its introduction has been a learning process for Epic. Players have been able to use the shopping cart to reach areas they should not be able to (specifically, underneath the map), which is problematic for a competitive PvP game.
The shopping cart can be used solo; it also allows for one player to push around another who sits in the basket (where they can fire a weapon). It might not be the best way to win a match--though the meta around that may be changing--but it is a hell of a lot of fun.
There's a good chance you've played--or at least been intrigued by--The Witcher 3. There's also a good chance you missed out on Geralt of Rivia's first outing. Now's the perfect time to right that wrong by grabbing a free copy of the game that started it all. Right now, GOG is giving free copies of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition to anyone who plays games on PC.
Since there's no such thing as a free lunch, you will have to jump through a hoop or two before you can hit that download button. For starters, you have to install Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. It's free to play, so that's not a huge deal. And if you've dabbled in the card-playing mini-game in The Witcher 3, you'll know it's an enjoyable pastime on its own. You can download it here.
Once you've installed Gwent, click here to access your free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. Note that to get your free game, you must also subscribe you to the GOG.com newsletter (you can unsubscribe any time). You also get a free Gwent Card Keg, which will come in handy if you plan to continue playing Gwent.
Now you can install your copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition and play the game that kickstarted Geralt's monster hunting career when it launched in 2007. In GameSpot's Witcher review, Brett Todd wrote, "Memorable story, immersive combat, fascinating characters--what's not to like? A few fit-and-finish issues mean that The Witcher isn't quite an all-time classic RPG. Regardless, it's awfully, awfully close, warts and all, and it provides a new benchmark for future developers that are looking to lift their games out of the done-to-death elf-and-orc ghetto."
Red Dead Redemption 2's special editions were teased last month, but we've finally been given a peek at what these special editions have to offer. Note "special editions." There's not one, but three different versions to choose from.
The first of the three is the Special Edition ($80 in the US), which includes several story mode additions and a physical world map. It includes a bank robbery mission and a gang hideout in story mode; a dappled black thoroughbred horse; talisman and medallion accessories to enhance Arthur's skills in-game; gameplay boosts, cash bonuses, and discounts; the Nuevo Paraiso Gunslinger outfit; and free access to several weapons: the volcanic pistol, pump action shotgun, and Lancaster varmint rifle.
The Ultimate Edition ($100) includes all of the content from the Special Edition and more. This version tacks on two bonus outfits, the Blackrose Bounty Hunter and Copperhead Enforcer outfits; a black chestnut thoroughbred horse with a high plains cutting saddle; free access to the survivor camp theme; and rank bonuses in online play.
The Collector's Box ($100) however does not have any digital content, or the game. Instead, it focuses on physical items from the Red Dead universe. Everything included will come in a metal tithing box with a lock and key. It includes a collectible challenger coin; double-sided 100-piece puzzle; Six Shooter bandana; treasure map; pin set; playing cards featuring illustrated versions of Arthur Morgan, John Marston, Javier Escuella, Bill Williamson, and Dutch van der Linde; a replica of the 150-page Wheeler, Rawson and Co. Catalogue; and 12 collectible cigarette cards inspired by the ones that can be found in-game.
Both the Special and Ultimate Editions are up for pre-order digitally on the Xbox Store and Playstation Network. Check out the pre-order bonuses here. All three versions, including the Collector's Box, are available to pre-order on the Rockstar Warehouse. Red Dead Redemption 2 is out on Xbox One and PS4 October 26.
More Fortnite: Battler Royale challenges are now live, with Week 7 presenting players with another batch of seven different things to do while playing. A number of them are fairly routine, while one is essentially a tie-in to coincide with the start of the World Cup, and another has you dealing with a treasure map. Here's how to complete them all.
With the challenges debuting in-game on the same day the World Cup begins, one challenge asks you to score a goal on different pitches. You'll need to do this one five times, and it involves heading to one of the soccer fields scattered around the match and knocking the soccer ball into the goal. You don't have to do all five in a single round of Battle Royale, and there are more than five total to come across. Among those are ones located in Pleasant Park, Risky Reels, Fatal Fields, and Flush Factory, as well as one southeast of Junk Junction.
Another challenge you might need some direction with asks you to follow the treasure map found in Pleasant Park. You can go there and secure the map, or, if you know where it leads, you can simply head right to the end point. This one takes you to the eastern edge of Tilted Towers. There's a small mountain with a pair of trees on top; try to land there at the start of a match (or build your way up) and you'll be able to collect the Battle Star icon.
The only other challenge that isn't completely straightforward tells you to consume hop rocks, apples, or mushrooms. These are consumable items that are used immediately on pick-up that have been added during Season 4. They can be found in a variety of locations, but your best is to head to Dusty Divot, where you'll find numerous hop rocks littered around the impact site, outside the fenced-in area.
As for the rest of Week 7's challenges, they involve using the right weapons or being in the right place. Searching chests in Risky Reels is as simple as landing there repeatedly and grinding your way to the seven you need. To eliminate opponents in Shifty Shafts, you'll want to do the same thing, starting out the match there and trying to beat other players to weapons. If it's an assault rifle, all the better, as you can complete your assault rifle eliminations that way. For both of those, you'll want to attempt this in a solo playlist, where you don't have to deal with downing players and then having to finish them off. On the other hand, for the final challenge--deal 250 damage with a pickaxe to opponents--your easiest path is to play a team game, down an enemy, and then swing away.
Fortnite Week 7 Challenges
Deal damage with a pickaxe to opponents (250) -- 5 Battle Stars
Search chests in Risky Reels (7) -- 5 Battle Stars
Consume Hop Rocks, Apples, or Mushrooms (2) -- 5 Battle Stars
Score a goal on different pitches (5) -- 5 Battle Stars
Hard: Follow the treasure map found in Pleasant Park -- 10 Battle Stars
Avengers: Infinity Warhas arrived and is still in theaters as it continues to increase its box office totals. The arrival of "destiny" as promised by Thanos, after ten long years of waiting and 18 movies, the moment we've been waiting for has come. It brought with it a whole bunch of questions, most importantly: what do we do now? With the movie's post-credits scene, that becomes just a tiny bit more clear.
The end of Infinity War is very literally an end--the actual, genuine annihilation of half the universe at the hands of Thanos, armed with a fully powered Infinity Gauntlet. Not exactly the feel good, heroic, triumphant superhero vibe of Avengers past. Thanos has won, and from where we're sitting, it looks like his victory is absolute.
But all hope isn't lost. Though Infinity War deviates from Marvel's post-credits formula slightly by including only one stinger, rather than what's become the customary two, the movie's final moments give us the briefest glimpse of what's on the horizon.
Here's the scene: Nick Fury and Maria Hill speed through a New York City that is slowly descending into chaos. As Fury notes that something big is happening in Wakanda, he tells Hill to get in touch with someone named Klein, likely this guy from Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron--which may point to more progress in Fury's somewhat forgotten efforts to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D in the wake of its official Hydra-fueled destruction.
But the effects of Thanos's finger-snap are reverberating across the galaxy and, one by one, people are disappearing at random. This means literally anyone--pilots, drivers, pedestrians--vanishing into thin air, no matter what they may have been in the middle of. So naturally, as more and more people crumble, helicopters are crashing, cars are veering off the road--you get the idea. The world is not in a great place, and Fury and Hill are left trying to puzzle through what's happening.
Unfortunately, even their time is limited. As they scramble out of their car, Hill begins to crumble and abruptly vanishes, leaving Fury on his own. He pulls out a device--something that looks almost like a beeper--and dials out just as he himself begins to disintegrate.
As Fury blows away in the wind, the device he was holding clatters to the ground and we're left staring at what we can only assume is the transmission of a distress signal. Though there is no text on the screen to give an official destination, a symbol or logo soon appears--the blue, red and gold emblem associated with none other than Captain Marvel.
We've known for some time that a Captain Marvel movie is coming--set photos of Brie Larson in costume have been filtering in since filming kicked off--but her role in the still unnamed Avengers 4 remains shrouded in mystery, just like the rest of the film. We do know, however, that her solo movie will be released in March of next year (two months prior to the next Avengers, due in May) and be set in the '90s, which leaves her in an interesting position considering Infinity War's very present day ending.
Just how long has Fury known about Captain Marvel? Where has she been all this time? Is the distress signal actually going to Carol Danvers or is it going to someone like, say, her mentor Captain Mar-Vell instead?
Perhaps more importantly: what exactly can Captain Marvel do in the face of a fully powered Infinity Gauntlet?
Carol Danvers traditionally gets her powers from her Kree heritage, making her similar to what we might expect from an Asgardian in the MCU, with a few twists. In the books she has enhanced durability, strength and speed, as well as the ability to fly and shoot energy projectiles from her hands. She also has an abundance of military and tactical training both on Earth and with the Kree army, making her a formidable force both in the heat of battle and in any war room--so it's not that she's incapable, by any means.
But all the training and superpowers in the universe seem dwarfed by the force of the Infinity Stones, even with the Infinity Gauntlet in the damaged state that the movie leaves it in, so it's unlikely that she'll be able to show up on Earth without some sort of back up and expect to make a difference. Luckily, there are a few other cosmic Marvel heroes who have been alluded to in the past who just might be able to lend a hand. We saw the Nova Corps in Guardians of the Galaxy, which paves the way for Nova to get involved, especially if Thanos destroyed the entire Corps when he nabbed the Power Stone from them, which would fit with Nova's origin in the comics. And don't forget Adam Warlock, who was referenced in the Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 post-credits scene.

There's also a bonus game announced during E3, as Plus members can download Call of Duty: Black Ops III for free from now through July 11; everything else is available until July 3.
In terms of the standard lineup, PS4 players can download the excellent XCOM 2 for free. The strategy game has tons of fans and has gathered lots of critical acclaim over the years for its many tactical layers, fun high-stakes gameplay, and great character development. In GameSpot's XCOM 2 review, Mike Mahardy gave the game a 9/10, calling it a superb strategy game that results in deep and meaningful playthroughs.
The other PS4 title you can pick up for free this June is Trials Fusion. The motorcycle platform-racing game has you zooming your way through courses covered in obstacles and ramps--the goal is to beat out players from around the world in time trials. Another well-reviewed title, it scored 8/10 in GameSpot's Trials Fusion review, where Tom Mc Shea called it "a great game that not only tests your skill and patience, but keeps you laughing at the ridiculous scenarios."
PS3 players can play Ghost Recon: Future Soldier for free. The game blends the Ghost Recon series' realistic shooting action with futuristic tech. The other free game is the Complete Edition of Zombie Driver HD, an isometric action game where you'll drive around a car slaughtering zombies. If you're a PS Vita player, multiplayer action game Atomic Ninjas, and puzzle game Squares are free to download too.
The month is half over, which means Xbox Live Gold subscribers can now download two more freebies. As usual, one is an Xbox One game, and the other is an Xbox 360 game you can play on Xbox One thanks to backwards compatibility.
The new free Xbox One game is the Smite Gold Bundle, which will be available between now and July 15. Smite is a free-to-play game, but the Gold Bundle includes 20 additional gods, plus skins, announcer packs, and other extra content. Seeing as it normally sells for $100, that's a good deal for anyone interested in this MOBA-of-the-gods.
The Xbox 360 game Gold members can download for free is Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues. Available until June 30, it's an action game that lets you play through Lego versions of all four Indiana Jones films. And if you haven't picked it up yet, you can still download the side-scrolling Xbox One game Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia, which is available until June 30.
If you're looking to escape the heat, or you prefer streaming to barbecues, looks like July is your month. Netflix is making moves this July, releasing originals, bringing back some oldies, and giving the boot to more than a few long-timers.

Everyone knows you can find great PC gaming deals during the Steam's summer sale, but with so many games to choose from, it can be hard to make a decision on what to buy. We thought we'd make it a little easier by highlighting some of the best games available for less than the price of a latte. All of these games are on sale for $5 or less, so you can probably buy a few of them without breaking the bank. The sale ends July 5, so grab them before then.
Triple-A games famously cost many millions of dollars to make, but even they can eventually go down to below-$5 pricing during Steam summer sales. Right now you can buy Darksiders for $4 or Deus Ex: Human Revolution for $3. Even the 2016 sequel Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is available for $5 right now on Steam. If large-scale destructive hijinks is your kind of thing, you can grab Just Cause 3 for $5 as well.
Loads of smaller indie games are available for just a few bucks right now as well, including the ultra-violent kill-fest Hotline Miami and the thoughtful puzzle platformer The Swapper. Other indie gems include Bastion, FTL, and Oxenfree, all on sale for just a few bucks. And if you haven't played the brilliant RPG Undertale yet, you can do so now for $5.
Microsoft's zombie survival game, State of Decay 2, was the best-selling title of May in the US, the NPD Group has announced. The game launched for Xbox One and PC toward the end of the month and managed to take the number one spot on the software sales chart, edging out other big May releases like the PS4-exclusive Detroit: Become Human. Its strong debut is also impressive considering that the game is available for free for those who have an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
Despite suffering from technical and performance issues, State of Decay 2 has proven to be quite popular among fans. The game attracted more than 2 million players within its first two weeks of availability. Microsoft appears to be quite pleased with the title; during its E3 2018 press conference, the company announced that it acquired State of Decay developer Undead Labs, along with four other studios.
State of Decay 2 also had a much stronger debut than its predecessor. According to the NPD Group, the game's launch month sales "nearly doubled" those of the first State of Decay, which originally released for Xbox 360 and PC back in 2013.
The second best-selling game of May was the PS4 reboot of God of War, which has now become the second best-selling game of the year to date in the US, behind Far Cry 5. Rounding out May's top three games was the aforementioned Detroit, which likewise released toward the end of the month.
In terms of hardware, PS4 was once again the best-selling platform of May, although all three major consoles--PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch--achieved "all-time unit sales highs for a May month." You can find the top 20 best-selling games of May below.
Fortnite Season 4 is nearly over, but in the meantime, Week 8 challenges are now available for players to tackle--so long as you own the Season 4 Battle Pass. Like any week, this consists of seven new objectives for Battle Royale players to complete on PC, PS4, Xbox One, mobile, and (as of E3) Nintendo Switch, including searching Hungry Gnomes and looking for a spot between a bear, crater, and refrigerator shipment. Here's where to find these key challenges and how to complete them all.
First up is one that asks you to search Hungry Gnomes. This is as simple as approaching one of these gnomes and searching it in the same way you'd open a chest, but it of course involves tracking them down first. You need to search seven in all, and luckily, there are many more than that on the map; however, there's no in-game indication of where you should begin your hunt. The one bit of help you do receive is a telltale noise the gnomes make when one is nearby, as it says "yummy yummy" in an odd voice. Among the locations where you'll find gnomes:
arena east of Junk Junction
Greasy Grove
Lucky Landing
Retail Row
Risky Reels
Tilted Towers
Tomato Town
Week 8's other more difficult challenge is one that's labeled as Hard by Epic. It asks you to search between a Bear, Crater, and a Refrigerator Shipment. As always, that's the only clue you get--you'll need to know the map well if you hope to do it on your own. In this case, the location you want to head to is just on the border of the I6 and I7 zones, southeast of Retail Row. The Battle Star you have to collect can be found just north of a house next to a gas station, as pictured below.
The remainder of Week 8 is fairly straightforward, though that doesn't necessarily make all of it easy. Search chests in Salty Springs is as simple as repeatedly landing there at the start of a match and grinding your way to the seven you need--be sure to head for rooftops so you can easily check attics. If you're hoping to do the related challenge, search seven chests in a single match, you'll want to avoid Salty Springs--other players are likely to be swarming the area in search of chests. Instead, your best bet is to head far away from the Battle Bus's flight path and avoid conflict at all costs.
Another challenge has you deal 250 headshot damage to opponents; just do your best to aim high, and you can grind your way to this one. Likewise, you can get three suppressed weapon eliminations by just getting your hands on one and using it at every opportunity. And again, that's true of eliminating three opponents in Pleasant Park--start enough matches there, luck into a weapon before someone else, and you should be able to take care of it without too much trouble. For both of the elimination challenges, your best bet is to attempt this in a solo playlist, so that you can avoid dealing with revives.
If you're looking to complete older challenges, check out our complete Season 4 challenge guide. Doing these allows you to rank up your Battle Pass, unlocking new skins and other rewards.
Fortnite Season 4, Week 8 Challenges
Deal Headshot Damage to opponents (250) -- 5 Battle Stars
Search Chests in Salty Springs (7) -- 5 Battle Stars
Search 7 Chests in a single match (7) -- 5 Battle Stars
Search Hungry Gnomes (7) -- 5 Battle Stars
Hard: Search between a Bear, Crater, and a Refrigerator Shipment -- 10 Battle Stars
Following its surprise reveal during E3 2018, the Life Is Strange spin-off The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit has officially launched. The game is now available to download on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and unlike previous entries in the series, it's completely free to download for all platforms.
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is a shorter, self-contained episode that stars Chris, a young boy who lives alone with his father. Chris loves comics and has a vivid imagination; during the story, he pretends to be a superhero named Captain Spirit and battle "monsters" such as a broken water heater.
Despite not directly tying into the previous Life Is Strange episodes, developer Dontnod says the game "links" to stories from the upcoming Life Is Strange 2 and contains "many secrets" and Easter eggs for fans to uncover. Choices you make in The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit will also carry over into Life Is Strange 2.
Early reception for The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit has been positive. GameSpot called it a "beautiful game" and awarded it an 8/10 in our The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit review. Critic James O'Connor wrote, "Regardless of how you classify The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit--whether it's a standalone adventure, a demo, or a prologue--it's a beautiful game, and one that leaves you all the more excited about Life Is Strange 2."
The latest trailer for The Predator has arrived. This is the third promo for the upcoming sci-fi action reboot, and while some of the footage featured in the recent international trailer, there's lots of new stuff in there too.
We get to see more of the mission to Mexico in which a squad of soldiers led by Quinn (Narcos and Logan star Boyd Holbrook) encounters the deadly alien creature, plus more dialogue from the squad of army convicts that he's subsequently imprisoned with. Of course, there's lots of Predator mayhem too, with more shots of the giant hybrid Predator teased in the most recent promo. Check it out above.
The Predator is directed by Shane Black, who previously helmed Iron Man 3 and the crime comedy The Nice Guys, as well as writing the original Lethal Weapon. It also stars Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu, Key & Peele), Sterling K. Brown (The People v. OJ Simpson), and Jacob Tremblay (Room). It releases on September 14.
In an recent interview with ScreenRant, Holbrook spoke about the tone of movie, and how it blends genres. "I think what we have here is kind of like a hybrid," he said. "You'll see a true reference to that once you see the film, and what's going on with all of the Predators. It does play a little slower, maybe like a western, which would lend itself to that thrill factor. And then it's the western in sci-fi, so I think that would build up to the scares.
"But also you have what Shane is really known for and is a master at, which is keeping a scene hinged on what's rooted--my son, get my son back, I need to save him--and then carving out these comedic moments."
While the 2015 deal between Marvel and Sony ensures that Spider-Man will feature in the former's movies for the time being, Sony is making the most of owning the cinematic rights to Spidey and associated characters. Venom hits theaters in October, and there are movies in the works focusing on Silver Sable, the Black Cat, and Morbius: The Living Vampire. It has now been reported that the character Silk might also get her own film.
According to Deadline, the Silk movie is in "early development" at Sony. Silk is a Korean-American superhero, who's real name is Cindy Moon. She was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, and first appeared in issue one of the relaunched Amazing Spider-Man comic in 2014. Moon was bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter Parker, but unlike Peter, has more trouble controlling her powers. Moon actually appeared as a character in last year's Spider-Man: Homecoming, although seemingly without powers.
Although Venom arrives in a few months, it is unclear when the next Spidey spin-off will be released. The Silver Sable/Black Cat movie--currently titled Silver and Black-- was originally scheduled for release in February 2019. However, it was removed from schedules earlier this year. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood commented on the film's delay, stating that she was "still working on the script."
Venom hits theaters on October 4. It stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, who becomes host for the alien symbiote of the title, plus Michelle Williams (The Greatest Showman), Jenny Slate (The Lego Batman Movie), and Woody Harrelson (Solo: A Star Wars Story). Check out the latest Venom trailer here. In addition, Sony's animated movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse releases in December, and you can check out the first trailer here.
While Marvel has traditionally scheduled movies several years ahead, the studio is unusually secretive about its plans beyond 2019. This is largely to do with the events of this year's Avengers: Infinity War--knowing what movies are upcoming might provide spoilers about the fate of some key characters. Nevertheless, the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is definitely on its way in July next year, and we now know its title.
The film will be named Spider-Man: Far From Home, and this news was confirmed by star Tom Holland. The announcement continued the tradition of Marvel stars "accidentally" revealing important information about upcoming movies. Holland was attending the Ace Comic Con in Seattle, and took to Instagram to tell fans that there was no big news coming out of the event. He then briefly holds up his iPad containing the Spidey sequel script--on which the title is clearly displayed. Check it out below:
Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5, 2019, with Jon Watts returning as director. Last month it was reported that Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko, Nightcrawler) was in talks to play classic Marvel supervillain Mysterio in the movie.
Although no further plot details are known, last year Marvel boss Kevin Feige did talk about how Spider-Man: Far From Home will kickstart the next phase of the MCU after Avengers 4. "So much happens in [the third and fourth Avengers movies], as you can imagine, and so much is affected by it, that we felt what better person to hold your hand and lead you into the next incarnation of the MCU, in a grounded, realistic manner, than Peter Parker?" Feige said. "So, coming out two months after Untitled Avengers, [that's what] much of what the next Spider-Man film will be about."
The next movie in the MCU is Ant-Man and the Wasp, which hits theaters next month. A new clip from the movie was released last week. For more, check out out GameSpot's list of 10 things we want from Ant-Man And The Wasp.
Microsoft has reset its weekly Deals with Gold and Spotlight Sale, which means you can save money on a whole new batch of Xbox One games. The selection is smaller than normal this week, and it's totally missing any deals on Xbox 360 games, but there's some good stuff to be had. Note that most of the deals require you to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription to get the discount, and that the sale ends on July 2. Now let's take a look at the best games we can save money on this week.
For starters, if you own either of the recent Battlefield games, you can grab a free DLC expansion. Battlefield 1 Turning Tides and Battlefield 4 Second Assault are both free for the week. Turning Tides brings the WWI fight to Gallipoli and the North Sea. Second Assault introduces four redesigned versions of popular maps from Battlefield 3.
The highlight of the sale is Tekken 7, which is on sale for half off, bringing it to $30 / £25. If you're on the fence about buying this one, here's a bit from our Tekken 7 review: "Tekken 7 remains an easy game to recommend. Its diverse roster is packed with a wide range of personalities and fighting styles, bolstered by a raucous attitude that begs to be taken seriously while simultaneously mocking its more peculiar whims in the process. Tekken fans will find their next favorite game--one that's the product of decade's worth of refinement."
Other notable games on sale this week include the cult classic action RPG Dragon's Dogma for $18 / £12, the 2D/3D platformer Sonic Forces for $25 / £21, and the indie gem The Flame in the Flood for $8 / £10. We have more selections below, and you can find the full list of deals here.
It hasn't been especially long since Overwatch's last new character and map were added, but Blizzard seems to already be teasing what the shooter's next playable hero or locale. It's very all very mysterious for now, but based on the teasers released in the past, we can expect several follow-ups in the coming days. [Update: Sure enough, we've gotten another possible hero teaser.]
This first teaser is accompanied by the words "Calm before the storm." It shows what looks like an alleyway with a variety of sprays and posters on the wall. Among these is one of Lucio, one calling for rights for Omnics (essentially robots), and another calling for "no robots." It's possible some hidden clue awaits, but there's nothing that immediately stands out. Check it out for yourself below.
With the references to Horizon and space, some have speculated that this could be leading to the reveal of Hammond, who is another Winston-type character and test subject. He's a character we've heard of before, but Overwatch has not spent much time exploring his background.
As it stands, Overwatch has a total of 27 characters. The most recent of the bunch was Brigitte, a Support character who can can heal teammates, equip a barrier shield, and stun enemies. So far, Blizzard hasn't given any indication of what to expect from the next character, nor do we know when they will be released. As always, though, any new addition to the roster has the chance to dramatically shake up the game, both for casual players and on the competitive/Overwatch League side.
We can expect new characters for Overwatch to continue to roll out, as Blizzard doesn't seem keen on moving on to an Overwatch 2.
