The Battle Pass for Season 5 of Fortnite is now available and it's got a whole load of new rewareds for players to work towards unlocking. For those unfamiliar with it, the Battle Pass is available to purchase in-game for 950 V-Bucks and can be leveled up by playing the game. As you level up the pass, new items are unlocked, and there are around 100 rewards which, according to developer Epic Games, "typically takes between 75 to 150 hours of play" to unlock. We've got a complete rundown on how the Battle Pass works.
When you purchase a Battle Pass, you'll immediately get access to the Drift and Huntress skins, as well as some XP bonuses. Beyond that there are emotes, gliders, loading screens, sprays, skins, back bling, contrails, and more to unlock. There are also weekly challenges, which you can learn more about in our Fortnite Season 5, Week 1 Challenges guide. A new feature included in the Battle Pass is Toys, which are described as "new ways for you and your squad to have fun on the island. Try out your jumpshot on the court, see if you can make a hole in one, or just enjoy some beach ball bouncing in the sand before the storm arrives." You'll earn these Toys by reaching certain Battle Pass tiers.
If you're looking for a complete breakdown of everything that the update adds and changes, check out the Fortnite Season 5 patch notes. Highlights include a brand-new vehicle called the All-Terrain Kart, a couple of new map areas, as well as the desert biome. There's also a new feature called Rifts; by walking into one, you'll be teleported high up into the air.
Take a look at everything in the new Fortnite Season 5 Battle Pass below. You'll have until Season 5 ends in September to unlock everything; certain rewards are obtainable for all players for free, but the majority of it--including the most desirable things, such as free V-Bucks and the Ragnarok skin--will require you to purchase the Battle Pass. Fortunately, if you play enough, you'll more than make back the V-Bucks you spend on it.
Fortnite Season 5 has begun, introducing a ton of new map changes as well as outfits and other doodads to collect. If you're playing on the Nintendo Switch, though, you have one more surprise waiting for you. That version added gyroscopic motion controls, according to today's patch notes.
That should make aiming easier for those who swear by gyro controls, as popularized by games like Splatoon. You can adjust this option in the settings menu. This is one of many changes introduced in the Season 5 rollover. Others include an All-Terrain Kart that can carry an entire squad, new locations like Lazy Links and Paradise Palms, and a desert biome. You'll also find Viking ships, desert outposts, and ancient statues littered around the island.
All that makes sense, as the game has been heavily hinting at a time travel theme for weeks. Epic encouraged users to hop in their Karts and go exploring, and we'd bet that some secrets lurk around the map already that will lay the groundwork for the next season.
Venom is still a few months out from hitting theaters around the globe, and fans are finally getting a better look at the upcoming Sony movie, featuring a Marvel character, that does not take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Movie rights can be confusing.
Recently, Entertainment Weekly revealed a couple of shots from the movie, and one of these images is a close-up of the titular character himself, Venom. As you can see in the first image below, the live-action version of Venom closely resembles his comic book counterpart, from the terrifying teeth and gigantic mouth to the large white areas where his eyes are. Also, he looks super-slimy.
Venom follows journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) who becomes infected with an alien symbiote, which takes over its human host. Brock struggles to retain his humanity and learns this symbiote gives him superhuman abilities. However, Dr. Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed) wants the symbiote for himself and will do anything in his power to get it back.
Additionally, EW revealed another photo featuring Brock strapped to a chair with Drake standing next to him--pictured below. Drake doesn't look too happy with Brock, and why should he be? If you've seen the trailer for the film, then you know Brock's mission--as a journalist--is to expose the illegal testing Drake is going at his company, The Life Foundation.
Hardy himself is excited for the role and finds the character of Eddie Brock extremely appealing. "There's a tragic clown element, which I find funny and is harmonious with some of the work that I like to do," Hardy told EW. "There's something funny about the circumstances of having a gift but it's a tragic gift. It's a superpower you don't really want, but at the same time, you love it. It makes you feel special. He's a reluctant hero and an anti-hero."
We do know quite a bit about the upcoming film, but Venom fans will be learning a lot during Comic-Con's Sony panel on Friday, July 20. Venom comes to theaters on October 4.
The Predator franchise of movies is known for its violence that has been popular since the 1980s. It started with the initial 1987 film, Predator, and then spawned multiple sequels, a video game, a novel, and two crossovers with the Alien franchise. Even though there have been several sequels and spinoffs, there's always room for more because the predators can always come back, and that's exactly what happens in The Predator, the latest film in this universe.
What It's About
After Quinn Mckenna encounters a predator in Mexico, he is questioned by the government before an unfortunate accident occurs. The predators are called to earth and land in a suburban town where the only barrier between them and the human race is a group of ex-soldiers and a science teacher. The predators have gotten some updates since we last saw them and have now grown bigger, more powerful, and harder to kill. There should be a lot of action and suspense in this next phase of The Predator, the latest movie in the franchise.
Who's Who
Crew
Shane Black is directing the film. He also directed Lethal Weapon, The Nice Guys and Iron Man 3.
Fred Dekker is credited with writing the screenplay along with John Thomas and Jim Thomas who are the original creators of the story.
Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse) plays Casey Bracket, the science teacher.
Jacob Tremblay plays Rory Mckenna, Quinn's young son who accidentally calls the predators to earth.
Yvonne Strahovski (Handmaid's Tale) plays Emma Mckenna, Quinn's wife and Rory's mother.
Keegan Michael Key, Thomas Jane, Trevante Rhodes, Sterling K. Brown, and Alfie Allen all also star as the group of former soldiers fighting the predators.
What Has Been Released So Far
Initially, there was only a poster released for the movie but now, two full length trailers have come out. The first offers a glimpse into the plot while the second goes a little more in-depth. The elements audiences expect from a Predator movie are there, like intense action scenes and a lot of violent deaths, but these predators have been upgraded to be even more dangerous. There is also a hint of director Shane Black's characteristic mix of comedy and violence.
Interestingly, the film reportedly underwent heavy reshoots recently which were said to rework the entire third act. The movie is technically a sequel and audiences were wondering how it fits in to the rest of the franchise, so part of the reworking is believed to be about getting in some references to the other Predator movies in there.
There aren't too many mysteries around this film, but we would love to know more about the predator upgrades and what they entail. Considering how difficult it was to get of the regular predators, upgraded predators have got to be next to impossible to fight off.
We're pretty sure we'll get some new information at San Diego Comic-Con, after which we'll only have to wait until September 14 to see the film.
Along with a new English trailer, The Pokemon Company has shared a Japanese theatrical trailer for Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee. The ad showcases some more footage of the upcoming Nintendo Switch RPGs, but most notably, it gives fans their first look at a pair of familiar faces who will be returning in the games: Jessie and James of Team Rocket.
Just as in the classic Pokemon Yellow version--which served as the inspiration for the upcoming titles--it appears Jessie and James will play a recurring role in Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee. In the theatrical trailer, which you can watch below, the villainous duo (along with Meowth) can be briefly seen confronting the protagonist in Mt. Moon.
The theatrical trailer also shows off some brief footage of Pikachu battling Zapdos and Moltres, two of the Legendary birds from Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow. This is particularly notable because players cannot typically battle wild Pokemon in Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee, suggesting that Legendaries may be the exception to this rule.
On top of those new details, we've recently learned that players will be able to give their partner Pikachu and Eevee different hairstyles and accessories in Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee. The Pokemon Company also confirmed that each version will feature its own exclusive Pokemon, just as previous installments in the series have.
Let's Go, Pikachu and Let's Go, Eevee release exclusively for Nintendo Switch on November 16. In addition to couch co-op using a second Switch Joy-Con, the games support local and online trading and battling, although players will need to have a subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online service to use the online features. The pair will launch alongside the Poke Ball Plus, a Poke Ball-shaped controller that can store a Pokemon and also interact with Pokemon Go.
All month long, Amazon has been giving free PC games to Amazon/Twitch Prime members in an effort to build anticipation for Prime Day. The Prime Day sales event doesn't officially begin until July 16, but free games--plus a few other deals--are available right now. All told, 21 free games will be offered to Prime members in July, and 10 are available right now.
To get your free games, you'll first have to link your Twitch and Amazon Prime accounts. Then head to Twitch.tv and click the crown icon next to the search bar. That opens a drop-down menu where you'll find your free games, along with any other freebies you haven't collected yet. Just note you'll need the Twitch desktop app to access the games.
What games are we talking about? The latest free game is The Bridge, a black-and-white puzzle game with hand-drawn levels inspired by M.C. Escher's artwork. The impossible architecture makes your job of reaching a door in each level much harder than it sounds. The Bridge is free until July 26.
Free until July 16 is Deponia: Doomsday, a humorous point-and-click adventure game that involves puzzles and time travel. Hue, a side-scrolling puzzle platformer that hinges on color manipulation, is available until July 15. And this is your last chance to grab the Gauntlet-like dungeon crawler Next Up Hero, so make sure to claim that one today.
The availability windows vary depending on the game, so your best bet is to check back in each day. If you haven't been paying attention, you've already lost out on games like Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition and Battle Chef Brigade. But even if you've missed some of the free games, you can still get more each day through July 17. Upcoming games includeTyranny and Brutal Legend. You can find the full schedule and descriptions of each game here.
Treyarch has shared more details about the upcoming beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The developer revealed that it will host two separate tests for the shooter--one for multiplayer, the other for the battle royale-style Blackout mode--ahead of the game's launch, with the first scheduled to kick off next month.
Those who pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be able to participate in the Private Multiplayer Beta, which will begin first on PlayStation 4 from August 3-6. An additional beta session will take place the following weekend for all platforms--PS4, Xbox One, and PC--although the PC test will only be accessible through the Battle.net service. You can see the full schedule below.
The Private Multiplayer Beta will feature six maps, two of which will be debuting for the first time. It will also offer a handful of modes to play, including fan favorites such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, and Search & Destroy, as well as Black Ops 4's brand-new Control mode. The latter is an objective-based mode that has teams alternating between attacking and defending two "static objectives."
Additionally, players who participate in the Private Multiplayer Beta will be able to try out new Specialists, although their identities have yet to be revealed. The test will also feature the veteran Specialists Nomad and Prophet, and Treyarch says the returning characters will bring "brand-new gameplay mechanics built for Black Ops 4."
Everyone who takes part in the beta will receive a unique calling card as a bonus. Those who achieve max rank during the beta, meanwhile, will earn a Permanent Unlock Token, which can be used toward any piece of Create-a-Class content in the full game. You can read more details about the Private Multiplayer Beta on Treyarch's official website.
Following the Private Multiplayer Beta, Treyarch says it will host another beta test specifically for Black Ops 4's Blackout mode. The developer didn't yet announce an exact date for the Blackout beta, but it will likewise kick off first on PS4. Additional details about the test will be shared closer to September.

Released in 2013, Crytek's PC free-to-play shooter Warface has found a passionate fanbase that's been keeping up the game. Focusing on class-based gameplay, the online shooter has upped its scope by adding in new co-op missions, raids, competitive gameplay modes, esports events, and even jumping into the battle royale craze with its own take on the mode. But now, Warface will be making a return to consoles on PS4 and Xbox One this fall.
Announced back in June, the upcoming console ports of Warface will bring the same experience on PC to a new platforms. Set for full release on PS4 and Xbox One in September, fans and newcomers alike will be able to take on a suite of co-op and online multiplayer missions. Though Warface found its way to the Xbox 360 back in 2014--which was discontinued in 2015--the relaunch on new consoles will offer a slightly tweaked version of the PC release to fit the new platform, which includes aim-assist for controllers and a sleeker UI. During a recent hands-on session with the PS4 version, we had the chance to play through the game's various modes and spoke with project manager Alex Shimov about Warface's newest venture.
"It was the right decision to bring it to consoles," said Shimov. "We believe that Warface has strong potential on consoles, it can play just as well as the PC release. Going into it, we did a lot of research for gamepad controls, internal playtests, and we also consulted players to see what sort of things they wanted to see. We believe it will reach this great audience on consoles, in the west especially. It will be the next great step for the franchise."
Focusing a squad of soldiers in a secret military organization, players will level up their four core classes--rifleman, engineer, medic, and sniper--gain resources to purchase gear, and complete special challenges. Along with a set of strike missions for up to 5 players--which takes you across different levels fighting rival PMCs, and even zombie-cyborgs--it also comes with the standard lineup of multiplayer modes such as team deathmatch, free-for-all, plant the bomb, and battle royale. Currently, Warface's BR mode only allows for 16 players to fight it out on a large map--but the developers plan to up the player count to 32 sometime this September for all versions of the game.
With the launch of the ports, the developers have also made the decision to have each release be independent from one another, so no cross-play with other releases unfortunately. This was to prevent an unfair advantage for PC players with their mouse-keyboard setup, who will be playing against newcomers on consoles. As for the exact dates, the timing for the final release date in September hasn't been revealed yet. However, the PS4 will launch with an early access period on August 14, with the Xbox One having its own sometime later.
The Year of Legendary Pokemon rolls on with another pair of free Legendaries for Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Next month, The Pokemon Company is giving away two powerful monsters that originally appeared in Pokemon Black and White versions: Tornadus and Thundurus.
Continuing the trend of previous distributions, the Legendaries will be given out in different ways depending upon your region. US residents can pick up a free download code for the Pokemon at the electronics section of Target from July 13-28; those in Europe can download the Legendaries over the Nintendo Network via Mystery Gift from July 6-22; and players in Canada will receive a code in the Pokemon Trainer Club newsletter.
As before, the Legendaries can be redeemed in any seventh-generation Pokemon game, although the one you receive will differ depending on which version you have. In Sun and Ultra Sun, players will get the Electric-type Thundurus, while those with Moon and Ultra Moon will receive the Flying-type Tornadus. (Players in Europe must choose the option to receive their gift via the internet to download their Legendaries.) You'll then be able to pick your Pokemon up from the deliveryman waiting inside any Pokemon Center.
Since February, The Pokemon Company has been giving away free Legendaries for the seventh-gen Pokemon games. Following the Tornadus and Thundurus distribution, players will be able to get the Hoenn Legendaries Groudon and Kyogre in August. In the meantime, you can see all of the free Pokemon available for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon right now.
We're still a week away from the first look at footage from the upcoming DC adventure Aquaman, which will debut its trailer this year's San Diego Comic-Con. However, we're starting to get an idea of what to expect visually from the movie. Following the first pictures that were revealed last month, a new image has been released.
It comes via Entertainment Weekly once more, and reveals the royal palace of the Fisherman King, who rules one of the seven kingdoms of Atlantis. He's in the center of the picture and is played by Djimon Hounsou. EW explains that this moment comes from a scene in which Aquaman's villainous brother King Orm (Patrick Wilson) visits the Kingdom to look for help in his war against the surface world. Check it out below:
This image follows last month's pictures, which gave a first look at characters such as Orm, Vulko (Willem Dafoe), Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman), and Black Manta (David Kane). The movie stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Amber Heard as Mera, and it's directed by James Wan.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wan spoke about the technical challenges of making a film set entirely underwater. "It was a very technically challenging shoot to be on," he said. "Working with water, and even the dry-for-wet sequences are very complex. Our equivalent of two people sitting around chatting in the underwater world is super complicated.
"You have to think about CG with the hair, and how their clothing moves, how are they floating, what kind of rig we put them on and all that stuff. [It's] very difficult and time-sucking to do all of this. So it was not an easy shoot--but hopefully it will pay off in spades down the line."
Aquaman hits theaters on December 21. For more, check out GameSpot's look at what we want from DC movies & TV shows at SDCC 2018.
The ending of Avengers: Infinity War is pretty emotionally brutal, but we didn't behold the full scope of the unspeakable horror. Marvel film head Kevin Feige recently confirmed that it's actually even worse than what was depicted on-screen. Spoilers follow.
The Marvel blockbuster ends with the villainous Thanos successfully acquiring the Infinity Stones and slotting them into his magic glove, only to fulfill his deranged mission: ending half of all life with a snap of his fingers to leave the universe's resources more accessible for those left alive. We get to see this manifest among our heroes, as several of them crumble into dust. What we didn't see are half of the puppies and kittens crumbling too.
Feige confirmed the mass slaughter to Birth Movies Death. In response to a question about whether half of the animals died as well--citing dogs and ants, specifically--Feige replied: "Yes! Yes. All life."
Depending on how strictly we're to take "all life," that would include plants as well, which would undermine Thanos' entire plan to solve resource scarcity. Plus killing half the animals will mean sudden shortages of other food sources, but they don't call him the Mad Titan for his well-reasoned plans.
Despite this obvious oversight, Thanos has gathered a fan following. The subreddit r/thanosdidnothingwrong recently engaged in a wild stunt, mass-banning half of its users and turning them into virtual carbon dust. It did this with the blessing of Thanos actor Josh Brolin, though, so at least it's all on-the-level.
Ant-Man and The Wasp has arrived in theaters, and it's already making a lot of money at the box office (if not quite as much as most Marvel movies). If you've still yet to see or--or you just did--and are wondering if it has any post-credits scenes to stick around for you, you're in luck. As is the Marvel way, it does indeed: There are a total of two after-credits scenes to check out after the movie "ends" (I guess we should lean into calling them stingers this time around, right?). The real question on everybody's mind has been whether the after-credits scenes connect Ant-Man and the Wasp with Avengers: Infinity War or 2019's Avengers 4. The answer? Unfortunately, yes. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Ant-Man and the Wasp.
In the first scene we get a look at what Scott, Hope, Hank, and Jan have been up to in the time immediately after Jan's return. They've taken their lab-sized bridge to the Quantum Realm and either totally rebuilt it or just conveniently shrunk it down with Pym Particles to fit in the back of a van, and now, Scott's about to make the jump. This time, he's not on a rescue mission, but after more "quantum particles," which he alludes to being part of Ghost's "cure" (the solution to her problem of phasing in and out of different quantum states uncontrollably).
It's worth noting that with this new, smaller bridge, Scott isn't using the submarine like vehicle that Hank used when he went to pull Jan out. He's just going in with the Ant-Man suit and a plucky attitude. That matters because just seconds after Scott successfully makes the jump, he suddenly finds himself out of communication with the team back in the normal sized universe operating the device's control panel. Unsurprisingly, we learn that all three of them were dissolved into dust care of Thanos's Infinity War finger snap, right at the most inopportune time, leaving Scott presumably stranded in the Quantum Realm with no way to get out, no way to communicate with the outside world, and no one alive with the knowledge that he's even there at all.
It's a pretty bleak fate, given how obscure the Quantum Realm is to begin with, and with Hank, Jan, and Hope gone, the list of people smart enough to engineer a way to reach him--or even aware that the Quantum Realm exists--shrinks pretty dramatically.
The second post-credits scene takes place immediately after the first. We're taken to the Lang house--eerily deserted, with the TV cut to an emergency broadcasting channel. Upstairs, the giant ant "stand in" Hope programmed to mimic Scott's routine keeps on keeping on, oblivious to the apocalypse, playing Scott's drum set.
There's basically an endless list of possibilities revolving around the Quantum Realm. Obviously, part of Avengers 4 is going to have to deal with Scott either getting out of or going further into the Quantum Realm. We learned in this movie that quantum particles can literally affect the nature of reality and can cause (or, significantly, reverse) the phasing of matter between parallel universes. We also learned that spending enough time in the Quantum Realm alters one physiology and can imbue a person with the ability to control--or at least manipulate--quantum particles in people's bodies.
Granted, it's pretty unlikely that Scott is going to stay trapped in the Quantum Realm for as long as Jan was, but we shouldn't rule out the possibility that he's going to come out the other side displaying similar energy manipulation abilities, at least temporarily.
With abilities like that, or with the quantum particles he harvested (and, maybe, can continue to harvest), there's a whole new list of potential failsafes against the Infinity Stones. It's probable--maybe even likely--that when the Stones destroy matter, they're not actually vaporizing it, but instead forcing it to phase out of our reality into another--maybe even into a place that is touching or related to the Quantum Realm. Failing that, it's certainly more than possible that the quantum particles are a way in which the Stones can be reliably counteracted; even if people were literally reduced to dust, if quantum particles can alter the fabric of reality, what's to say they couldn't reach into an alternate universe and pull a new version of a vaporized person back into our dimension?
It's also worth considering that the Quantum Realm may have literally been out of reach of Thanos's snap all together, and thus, in one way or another, immune to the Infinity Stones' powers. Of course, there's the chance that Scott just got lucky enough to not be one of the people randomly chosen, but he's atypical for the surviving group in that he wasn't one of the original Avengers, which is one of the major commonalities between nearly all of the remaining heroes post-Infinity War. If the Quantum Realm is somehow safe from the Stones abilities, it may come into play in a totally different way come Avengers 4 next year.
July's fireworks and barbecues might be behind us, but that means it's nearly time for Amazon Prime Day 2018 to happen. This Black Friday-like event returns once again this summer, and this year will see a longer-than-usual event. You can expect the Amazon to offer temporary discounts on games, tech, movies, toys, and anything else you might want to buy from the world's largest online retailer. Other retailers may also offer discounts that day to cash in on the commerce craze. Here's everything you need to know about Amazon Prime Day 2018, including some tips on how to make the most of it.
What is Prime Day?
Prime Day is a massive sale Amazon puts on each year in July for Prime members. It all began in 2015, when Amazon had a sale to celebrate its 20th birthday. In the years since, Prime Day has grown into a shopping extravaganza in its own right, with deep discounts on all kinds of items.
When is Prime Day?
Prime Day begins at 12 PM PT (3 PM ET / 12 PM BT) on July 16 and will last 36 hours, through July 17. This is longer than in the past and could mean more deals to go around than during previous sales.
What are some Prime Day tips?
Black Friday affords shoppers with a lot of time to plan and get ready for the big day. That's not the case with Prime Day; while we get a select number of deals early, you'll need to be ready on Monday and Tuesday to act quickly. We've assembled a range of Prime Day tips to help you make the most of the day, including how to ensure you're getting the best deals possible.
For Prime Members Only
The catch is that you have to be an Amazon Prime member to take advantage of the deals. The company ruffled feathers earlier this year when it upped the annual price of a Prime membership from $99 to $119. (You can also get a one-month membership for $13). Having to buy a subscription is a bummer, but there are ways around dropping cash just to take part in Prime Day. If you've never been a Prime member before, you can get a free 30-day trial just by signing up. Students get an even better deal: their Prime membership begins with a free six-month trial.
Even if you're a lapsed Prime member and you can't get the free trial, signing up for a one-month membership may be worthwhile, depending on what Prime Day deals you want to take advantage of. There's also a good chance Amazon will offer a discount on Prime subscriptions in the run-up to Prime Day, so your best bet is to wait and see.
What kind of deals can we expect?
Amazon always drops prices on tons of items, with big discounts in particular on its own hardware: Echos, Kindles, Fire sticks, and tablets. Additionally, you can expect big savings on video games, consoles, gaming accessories, 4K TVs, other electronics, apparel, outdoor gear, baby products, and nearly anything else you can buy at the online retailer.
Already Amazon has dropped the price on the Echo Show from $230 to $130 for Prime members and begun offering discounts on select items like furniture and luggage. Many more deals are to come, and you can see a selection of the first promotions. Meanwhile, Twitch Prime--which you get for free with Amazon Prime--is giving a ton of free PC games this month.
Also be sure to check out our 7 tips to get the most out of Prime Day 2018 referenced above. We'll have lots of Prime Day deals coverage on all things gaming and media here at GameSpot when the event rolls around. Make sure to check back closer to the the big day.
Amazon's Prime Day is approaching fast. This year, the online retailer's mega-sale event kicks off on July 16 and runs through July 17, going for a total of 36 hours--longer than we've seen in the past. Amazon promises it will have big savings across all categories of items--which covers everything from games to TVs--basically like a Black Friday sale in July. The only catch is that you have to be a Prime member to get the deals--though if you're not, we have a free solution below. Here are some tips to make the most of Prime Day and how you can secure the best possible deals.
Free Amazon Prime Trial
One of the best tips for anyone without a Prime account heading into Prime Day is that Prime subscriptions begin with a month-long free trial (six months for students). Seeing as trial members get full access to Prime deals, that means you can sign up for the month of July to take advantage of the offer. If you don't like it, you can always cancel your subscription before paying a cent.
The only caveat here is that the free trial month is only open to customers who haven't had Prime within the past 12 months. If you fall into that category, you can sign up for a one-month Prime membership for $13. That gives you access to all the Prime Day deals without having to spend $120 on a year's membership.
Some Deals Are Already Live
In an effort to get people excited for Prime Day, Amazon has already begun discounting prices on certain products. You can save money on an Echo Show, Kindle Unlimited, and more. Most notably, however, Prime members can get a bunch of free PC games from the Amazon-owned site Twitch. Here's everything you need to know about the free games you can get in July.
Know That Deals Can Go Fast
To best take advantage of Prime Day deals, you can always spend a lot of time on Amazon July 16-17. Many of the best opportunities to save are hourly Lightning Deals that are only available for a limited amount of time. Making matters worse, the best deals often sell out in minutes, so they're only available to the first people who jump on them. That said, Amazon gives you 15 minutes to check out before removing a Lightning Deal from your cart. So if you miss out on a deal, it's worth adding yourself to the waiting list to see if more inventory frees up because people take too long.
To keep track of the fast-moving deals, keeping an Amazon tab open while you're at your computer might be a good idea. If you can't do that and you're primarily interested in deals relating to video games, you can keep an eye on GameSpot during Prime Day. We'll be covering the best game deals, so make sure to check back often and follow us on Twitter. If you're in the market for deals on electronics, our sister-site CNET has you covered.
Turn On Notifications
In the settings section of the Amazon app for iOS and Android, you can turn on notifications for when items on your watch list and wishlist go on sale. This is an especially handy feature for deal hunters who don't want to be wooed by sales on products they're not already seeking out. This way, if you've already expressed interest in an item by adding it to one of your lists, the Amazon app will let you know when and if any of your selected items gets a discount.
Alexa Can Help
If you have a device with Amazon's AI-driven assistant Alexa--like an Echo or Amazon Fire tablet--you can ask it about what deals are available starting now and running through Prime Day. Also, don't be surprised if you see some deals that can only be ordered through Alexa once Prime Day rolls around. Amazon's been known to do that in the past.
Make Sure You're Getting A Good Deal
With deals flying around left and right, it can be hard to know if any given sale price is actually a good deal or not. To make sure you don't blow the bank on bad deals, you can check price history on Amazon items on a third-party site like Camelcamelcamel.com. Here you can run a search for the item or paste in the Amazon URL to see how low the price of any item has gone in the past. That way you can determine whether the deal you're considering is actually a good offer or not.
Watch For Sales Elsewhere
While customers are whipped up into a consumer feeding frenzy for Prime Day, you can bet other retailers will try to take advantage of the blood in the water by offering sales of their own. Keep an eye on competing retailers like Best Buy, Newegg, Target, and Walmart to see if they offer compelling discounts of their own.
There are just a few days to go until Amazon Prime Day 2018. As we've seen in recent years, Amazon holds a major, one-day sale in July that is akin to Black Friday, although it's limited to a single retailer. It sees prices drop on a wide variety of products, ranging from Echoes and Kindles to video games, TVs, electronics, furniture, apparel, and just about every other category of items Amazon sells, including some bizarre stuff (as the video above shows). 2018's Prime Day is coming up quite fast, and it'll feature at least one major difference: Despite the name, it'll actually run for more than 24 hours.
The one key catch with Prime Day is that you have to be an Amazon Prime member to take advantage of the sale prices. With July underway and the event approaching, Amazon has confirmed the date for Prime Day 2018. It's a 36-hour event that will kick off on July 16 at 12 PM PT (3 PM ET / 12 PM BST) and run through July 17.
If you're not a Prime member already, you can sign up here. In addition to Prime Day discounts, Prime members get free two-day shipping on many products, access to Amazon Prime Video, Prime Music, free books, and a free Twitch Prime membership, which includes free PC games each month. This month, to build anticipation for Prime Day, Amazon/Twitch Prime members are getting 21 free PC games. A free 30-day trial of Prime is available for new members that will let you take advantage of Prime Day deals without having to fork over money for a subscription of your own.
An Amazon Prime subscription costs $119 for a one-year membership or $13 for a single month. Students get an even better deal: a free six-month trial, with a monthly price of only $6.49 after that.
Heads up, deal hunters: a new sale on Xbox One and Xbox 360 games is live on the Microsoft Store. You can find the full list here, but we've sorted through the offers and selected some of the best deals on the best games below. Note that some of the deals are only good for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, while others are available to everyone. The sale ends July 16, so don't put off buying any games you've had your eye on.
If you like board games but don't like keeping track of all those cards, dice, and plastic pieces, you're in luck. This week, Ubisoft has dropped prices on a number of its digital versions of Hasbro games. You can pick up Battleship or Risk for $6 / £5, or Monopoly Deal for $2 / £2. The first two are more or less straight renditions of the board games. Monopoly Deal is a fast-paced card game version of Monopoly, which is great for anyone who falls asleep playing the board game.
In anticipation of Mega Man 11 coming this fall, you can scoop up the entire core series for cheap on Xbox One. Mega Man Legacy Collection contains games 1-6 and is on sale for $6 / £5. Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 has games 7-10; it's on sale for $12 / £7.
A handful of other noteworthy games are on sale, including the gorgeous RPG Child of Light for $5 / £4, the recently-released Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet for $42 / £35, and the horror game Zombi for $6 / £5. And if anyone tells you games are a waste of time, you can pick up Rocksmith 2014 Edition - Remastered for $16 / £16 and actually learn how to play guitar. That'll show them.

If you own a PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, or PS Vita, you can save money on hundreds of games right now. Sony is running a massive mid-year sale on the PlayStation Store, with discounts on games like Fallout 4 ($18), Diablo III: Eternal Collection ($36), and Assassin's Creed Origins ($36). Sweetening the deal even more is that PlayStation Plus members get an extra 10% off the sale prices. The ongoing sale runs through July 17, and you might think that's all the discounts you'll get this week. You'd be wrong, though not by much. A small handful of other games have gotten discounts on the PlayStation Store, so let's dive in.
Grand Theft Auto V has been one of the best-selling games each year since its initial launch in 2013. It's hard to imagine anyone who could possibly be interested not having already bought it. But seeing as it was the best-selling game in June 2018 on the PSN in the US, that's apparently not the case. If you haven't added this massive blockbuster game to your collection, you can grab it this week on PS4 for the all-time low price of $20.
Other new discounts on the PlayStation Store include Dead Cells, a Metroid-style roguelike that's coming to PS4 on August 7. It's been getting lots of positive buzz during its early access period on PC, so it may be worth pre-ordering for $20 instead of its regular price of $25 once it launches.
PSVR owners can pick up Eagle Flight and Werewolves Within for $20 each this week, and Resident Evil fans may want to grab Umbrella Corps while it's available for the same price. Finally, party people can grab a pile of multiplayer mini-games with the Jackbox Party Quadpack, on sale for $42.
If this week's new deals seem paltry, just hop over Sony's massive mid-year sale for big savings on hundreds of other games.

Both versions come packed with extras, from deleted scenes and commentary tracks to behind-the-scenes clips that show how a movie of this magnitude is made. The digital version comes with an additional 30-minute Marvel director round-table discussion.

The Guardians Get Their Groove Back (3:20)--As Peter Quill and Drax quarrel over their failed mission to Knowhere, Mantis interrupts with news.

Gag Reel (2:05)--Watch your favorite superheroes make super gaffes in this lighthearted collection of on-set antics.
Audio Commentary (approx. 149 min.) by Anthony and Joe Russo, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely
Now the only question is where you want to buy the movie. Here are your options.
Avengers: Infinity War Digital Edition
If you want to own it as early as possible, here's where you can pre-order the digital version of the Avengers: Infinity War.
You might have to wait two extra weeks, but if you like your movies in physical form, it's worth it. This version comes with a Blu-ray disc, plus a digital copy of the movie.
Avengers: Infinity War 4K Cinematic Universe Edition
This version of the movie also comes with a standard Blu-ray version, as well as a digital copy. In addition to the ones linked below, Best Buy has an exclusive steelbook edition of this version for $35. Target has an exclusive version that comes with a 40-page gallery book for $40, or one that comes with a red Iron Man Funko Pop for $42.
Don't have a Blu-ray player? No problem, get yourself a copy of the movie on DVD. Just note that, unlike the other physical versions, it doesn't come with a digital copy.
July is officially upon us, which means a couple of new Games with Gold are now available to download. Xbox Live Gold subscribers can grab two new free titles for Xbox One and Xbox 360, with another pair of freebies set to arrive partway through the month.
On the current-gen console, Gold members can download the fast-paced twin-stick shooter Assault Android Cactus at no charge until July 31. 360 owners, meanwhile, can grab Sega's classic fighting game, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, for free until July 15. The latter is also playable on Xbox One thanks to backwards compatibility.
In addition to those titles, players will be able to grab two more titles for free beginning July 16. On the Xbox One side, Gold members will be able to get the colorful puzzle game Death Squared for free until August 15, while Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction will be available to download on Xbox 360 through the end of July. Like Virtua Fighter, the latter is also backwards compatible with Xbox One. You can see the full list of July's free Games with Gold below.
On top of this month's freebies, Gold members still have a few more days to claim a holdover from June's Games with Gold lineup. The Smite Gold Bundle is available to download for free until July 15. The bundle includes an assortment of items for the free-to-play game, including additional gods, skins, and announcer packs.

Good news for deal hunters: Sony is running a massive Mid-Year Sale on the US PlayStation Store, with discounts on over 800 items between now and July 17. That's a seriously big sale, significantly larger than most weekly PlayStation Store sales. So if you're looking to save money on digital PS4, PS3, PS Vita, and PSVR games, now's the time to do it. And if you're a PS Plus member, you get a bonus 10% off. Let's take a look at some of the biggest and best games that are on sale right now. [Update: In addition to what's available through the Mid-Year Sale, we've also gotten some additional PSN discounts, including a nice $20 offer on GTA V.]
To kick things off, you can grab last year's Egypt-set Assassin's Creed Origins for $36 ($30 with PS Plus). For the same price, you can get Diablo III: Eternal Collection, which comes with all the expansions that acclaimed dungeon crawler has gotten since release. Or you can kick it in the apocalypse with Fallout 4 for $18 ($15).
If you're looking for games that cost less than lunch, you can find plenty of them during the sale as well. The Zelda-like game Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is down to $6 ($2). The side-scrolling shooter Sine Mora EX is the same price. And if you haven't saved (or killed) a group of teenagers in Until Dawn yet, you can add it to your collection for $6 ($5).
Those are some of our picks for the best games in the PlayStation Store's Mid-Year Sale. You can find more below, or you can scroll through the whole big sale here.
We're now well into July 2018, and with a new month comes another batch of free titles for PlayStation Plus subscribers. As per usual, July's PS Plus lineup consists of six games divided up across PS4, PS3, and Vita, all of which are available to download at no charge through the end of the month.
Headlining PS4's selection of freebies is Heavy Rain, the narrative-driven game from Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream. Heavy Rain originally launched for PS3 back in 2010 and was re-released on Sony's current-gen console in 2016. Joining it is Absolver, a unique and flexible third-person adventure/fighting game in which players can fully customize their fighting style.
On the PS3 side, Plus subscribers can now download the classic 3D platformer Rayman 3 HD, as well as Extreme Exorcism, a retro-style platformer in which players hunt their own ghosts. Extreme Exorcism is available in place of Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess, which was initially announced to be one of this month's free PS Plus titles. The game is also playable on PS4 via Cross-Buy.
Finally, Vita owners can download the acclaimed adventure game Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma and the action game Space Overlords for free this month. Like Extreme Exorcism, the latter also supports Cross-Buy with PS4, getting you four possible freebies on that platform in July.
All of the aforementioned games will remain free to download for PS Plus members until next month, when they'll return to their regular prices. You can see the full list of July's free PS Plus games below.
If you're looking to escape the heat, or you prefer streaming to barbecues, it looks like July is your month. Fortnite Season 5 is officially underway, and there's plenty of new content for players to sink their teeth into. We've already extensively covered the changes and additions, but we also wanted to collect all the new tips and tricks you'll have at your disposal.
First and foremost, you'll want to know about the changes made to shotguns--especially considering how significant they've been to player strategy in the battle royale. Shotguns will now indicate how many pellets actually hit, with visible markers appearing within the reticle. You won't be able to cycle between two shotguns like you could before though, as there is now a short period of time after firing a shotgun where another shotgun can't be fired. Measure your shots carefully, or just find another way to kill someone.
For anyone who's struggled to get a revive in a past 50v50 or Teams of 20 game, worry no longer. Fortnite is implementing XP bonuses for reviving teammates in both limited-time modes. You'll only get three bonuses a match though, with an extra 30XP the first time and 10XP for the follow-up second and third time. Hopefully, this influences more players to offer a helping hand instead of leaving their teammates to die.
The Storm is also getting an update. Circles seven, eight, and nine will still shrink but they'll also be able to shift in random directions. You'll need to be ready to hoof it at a moments notice.
Between matches, hitting the "Play Again" button now allows players to preview pickaxe visual and sound effects in the Item Shop, Battle Pass, and Locker.
You'll also have access to the same sound visualizer that were created for mobile on all platforms. Flipping it on puts a small visual indicator on your screen that alerts you to nearby gunfire, footsteps, or chests. However, audible sound effects are muted while the visualizer is on. The new option can be found in the Accessibility tab. Don't worry about it if you play on a mobile platform, you'll be unaffected by this change.
To promote the upcoming launch of World of Warcraft's seventh expansion, Battle for Azeroth, Blizzard teamed up with a popular Sydney burger joint for WoW-themed burgers.
Blizzard ANZ partnered with Burgers by Josh for two new burgers, which are inspired by the Horde and the Alliance. Available from this Friday at the Annandale Hotel and The Raby Tavern, the burgers take inspiration from the game's two factions. The Horde Burger ($20 AUD) comes with a red dyed potato bun and pickled guindilla chili peppers as horns. It's stuffed with fried chicken, jalapenos, maple bacon, and more.
The Alliance burger ($22 AUD) features two wagyu beef patties inside a blue-dyed bun. It also has American cheese, bacon, a hash brown, and other familiar trappings such as lettuce, tomato, and onion. You can see a full rundown of ingredients for both burgers at the bottom of this post.
The burgers will be available until Battle of Azeroth launches on August 14. After that, the best-selling one will stay on the menu for an additional month. These burgers are exclusively available in Sydney, Australia.
Pre-sales for Battle for Azeroth are now live for the game's standard and deluxe editions. Pre-ordering the expansion gets you a lot of nice bonuses, including extra content for other Blizzard games like Overwatch, along with an instant World of Warcraft character boost to 110.
Capcom's celebrated RPG Monster Hunter World is finally coming to PC in August, and now the publisher has shared some further details about it, including its PC specs.
In addition to the specs (you can see the Minimum and Recommended specs below), Capcom announced some of the game's Advanced Graphics Settings. You'll be able to tinker with things like foliage sway, subsurface scattering, water reflection, and dynamic range. What's more, there is keybinding support. Check out the images embedded in this post to get a closer look at what will be available in the PC edition of Monster Hunter World.
Monster Hunter World launched for PS4 and Xbox One in January. It has been a resounding commercial success for Capcom, setting a new launch record for the series and becoming the publisher's best-selling game ever. The game also received a positive reception from critics. GameSpot awarded it an 8/10 in our Monster Hunter World review and called it "a meaningful evolution for the series at large."
The game comes to PC through Steam on August 9. If you pre-purchase Monster Hunter World on Steam, you get a pair of bonus items: the Origin armor set and the Fair Wind Charm. In addition to the standard version, the game will also be available in a Digital Deluxe edition, which contains the same assortment of customization items found in the console equivalent. This includes a set of Samurai armor, three gestures (Zen, Ninja Star, and Sumo Slap), two sticker sets, and a new face paint and hairstyle option.
You can watch a trailer for Monster Hunter World's PC edition in the embed above.
A new Joker origin story movie starring Joaquin Phoenix in the title role is officially happening, with production to begin this September, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The story will reportedly be an "exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale."
The Hangover director Todd Phillips, who co-wrote the script, is directing. The Warner Bros. movie reportedly has a budget of only around $55 million, which is well below what other Warner Bros. superhero and villain movies have cost to produce. According to THR, the film is "meant to be darker and more experimental in tone and content (at least as experimental as a studio can be with established brands such as DC), which is described as being akin to a crime drama."
No official release date has been set, but THR claims the film could be in theaters by late 2019. Shooting reportedly starts in September in New York.
Phoenix is a veteran and accomplished actor. He earned three Oscar nominations, for Gladiator, Walk the Line, and The Master, though he has yet to win. The actor's name has been attached to the Joker for many months now, but today marks the first official confirmation that the movie is happening.
While Phoenix has yet to star in a comic book movie, he's been close before. Before Benedict Cumberbatch was cast, the actor was in talks to star in Doctor Strange. He also passed on the role of Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Additionally, this will be the first comic book film for Phillips, who previously directed the Hangover franchise, War Dogs, and 2003's Old School.
2K Sports brought WWE 2K18 to Nintendo Switch last year, but it suffered from a number of problems like framerate issues and more. This year's WWE 2K19 is skipping Switch altogether, a representative for 2K Sports confirmed to PowerUp Gaming.
"WWE 2K19 will not be available on Nintendo Switch," the spokesperson said. 2K is focused on making the best possible experience for WWE 2K fans and will continue evaluating all opportunities to deliver the franchise across additional platforms."
It's a bummer for wrestling fans hoping to play on the Nintendo console. Given that the PS4 and Xbox One have bigger installed bases, it makes sense that 2K would focus on those systems, but that doesn't make it any less easier to stomach for Nintendo fans.
The Deluxe and Collector's Editions of WWE 2K19 will be available on October 5, while the Standard Edition of WWE 2K19 will be available on October 9. In other news, 2K has confirmed that Ronda Rousey will be available as a pre-order bonus.
Two more games are being added to the Xbox Game Pass library this week, the first of which is out now. Psyonix's hit soccer-with-cars game Rocket League is now available in the subscription service catalog, while Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is coming on July 11. [Update: Vermintide 2 is also out now.]
To celebrate the Game Pass launch, Psyonix is offering discounts on some Rocket League DLC. For example, Rocket League's Fast & Furious '70 Dodge Charger R/T is on sale, while the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Batmobile and the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future are also marked down to $1.80 instead of $2.
As with the PS4 and Switch editions of Rocket League, the Xbox One version has cars exclusive to it in the form of the Halo Warthog and the Armadillo from Gears of War. You can see these cars in the image above.
Rocket League has been a massive success, and its release into the Xbox Game Pass library will surely help player figures grow higher still. The game is unquestionably popular and has made a lot of money, but Rocket League 2 may never happen.
As for the other new Game Pass title, Vermintide 2, it is much newer, having released in March 2018. The first-person hack-and-slash game has been compared to Left 4 Dead, with GameSpot at one point calling it "Left 4 Dead 3 in the Warhammer universe."
For more on Xbox Game Pass, check out this roundup of all the games in the library. The service costs $10/month in the US, which is on top of the $60/year Xbox Live Gold subscription. All of Microsoft's first-party games are released into the catalog day-and-date, and this will include Gears 5 and Halo Infinite.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skryim has been one of Bethesda's biggest success stories ever. Originally released in 2011, the acclaimed RPG remains immensely popular. According to game director Todd Howard, "millions" of people still play the game every month.
"Even now, the amount of people who play Skyrim seven years later; millions of people every month are playing that game," Howard said during a speech in Barcelona recently, as reported by GI.biz.
Skyrim was originally released in 2011 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. A Special Edition for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One was released in 2016, with a Nintendo Switch version landing in 2017. The game is also available on PlayStation VR. At E3, Bethesda announced a version of the game for Amazon's Alexa device.
This is all to say, the game is pretty much on every platform you can imagine. It's not hard to see why Bethesda keeps putting the game on new platforms: $$$$$
"If you want us to stop releasing it, stop buying it," Howard joked.
As of 2014, Skyrim had sold 20 million copies, but this figure of course does not include sales on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, along with continued sales on legacy platforms.
Skyrim and the Skyrim Special Edition remain among the most popular games on Steam, with concurrent user figures peaking at around 16,000 today.
Bethesda Game Studios is currently working on multiple new projects, including an all-new RPG called Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI. These games are still a long time off, with both potentially not releasing until new consoles come out. A new Elder Scrolls game for mobile, Elder Scrolls Blades, is launching this fall.
Here's some unexpected and cool news about the next Star Wars movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Billy Dee Williams will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian in next year's Star Wars: Episode IX.
Williams first played Lando in 1980's Empire Strikes Back and was seen again in 1983's Return of the Jedi. The character was more recently played by Donald Glover in this year's Solo: A Star Wars Story.
The story for Episode IX is under wraps for now, so we don't know how Lando will fit into the narrative, but it's exciting to think about. Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac are all expected to return for Episode IX. Recently, The Americans star Keri Russell joined the cast in an unspecified role.
The film will be directed by JJ Abrams, who joined the movie in September last year, following the departure of original director Colin Trevorrow. Although little is known about Episode IX at this stage, Abrams has already stated that he won't play it safe with his second Star Wars film. "I feel like we need to approach this with the same excitement that we had when we were kids loving what these movies were," he said. "But at the same time, we have to take them places that they haven't gone, and that's sort of our responsibility."
Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019 and is currently the only other Star Wars movie on Disney's release schedule. However, we do know there are two separate Star Wars movies series in the works, one from The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson, the other from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
