Comic-Con 2018: James Gunn Teases Movie Reveal At SDCC

By Chris E. Hayner on Jul 19, 2018 12:12 am

Marvel Studios is sitting out San Diego Comic-Con 2018, but that isn't stopping one of its most prominent directors from taking the stage in Hall H. James Gunn, the director behind the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, is heading to Comic-Con with a secret film project.

The director first started teasing the Comic-Con reveal with an Instagram post. In it, Gunn writes, "I will see many of you at [San Diego Comic-Con] one week from today (Friday, 7/20) with something dark, sweet, and special." He followed that up with a mysterious tweet, which you can see below.

The image is presumably the logo for whatever project he's going to announce, but what's most important it the location and time he lists. Friday in Hall H at 6:15 PM PT, the Sony Pictures panel will begin. It was already announced that that particular panel will have new information about the upcoming Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse movies.

While both are technically Marvel projects, neither is expected to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So don't expect Gunn to be associated with either of those. However, we have an idea about what his tweet could be referencing.

Though he has been very busy with writing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn does have another project in the works. It was announced in December that the director would be stepping in to produce a horror movie script written by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn--his brother and cousin, respectively.

A plot for the horror film has not been revealed, but it's quietly built a rather impressive cast. Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games), David Denman (Logan Lucky), Meredith Hagner (Ingrid Goes West), and Matt Jones (Breaking Bad) were all previously announced as being cast in the project, which is being directed by David Yarovesky, who has collaborated multiple times with Gunn.

Whether this is the project Gunn plans to unveil at Comic-Con or not, it's a movie horror fans should keep an eye on. After all, he's no stranger to the genre. In addition to writing the screenplay of the 2004 Dawn of the Dead reboot and 2016's The Belko Experiment, Gunn also wrote and directed the 2006 cult classic Slither.

For more about what to expect from this year's San Diego Comic-Con, make sure to check out our list of must-see panels, as well as the exclusives you'll want to buy from both Funko and Mondo.

One Of Batman's Best Movies Is Coming Back To US Theaters

By Eddie Makuch on Jul 19, 2018 12:06 am

Here's something that will make you feel old: the acclaimed Batman movie, The Dark Knight, came to theatres 10 years ago this month. To celebrate the anniversary, Warner Bros. is bringing the film back to theatres for a "exclusive, one-week engagement" at select locations.

The movie will play on IMAX at four theatres in the United States. That's notable because The Dark Knight was one of the first major movies to use IMAX 70mm film; director Christopher Nolan used IMAX cameras again with The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, and Dunkirk.

The new screenings will play the movie in 70mm IMAX film, which Warner Bros. says will deliver a "uniquely immersive cinematic experience."

The four theatres that will play The Dark Knight for this anniversary event are:

  • AMC Universal Citywalk IMAX in Universal City, California
  • AMC Lincoln Square IMAX, in New York City
  • AMC Metreon IMAX in San Francisco, California
  • And Ontoario Place Cinesphere IMAX in Toronto

The screenings, which run for a week, begin on August 24. There will be one screening per day, and you can check with your local theatre for specific times.

The Dark Knight, which is a sequel to Batman Begins, stars Christian Bale as Batman and Heath Ledger as The Joker. Ledger died before the movie came out, and he won a posthumous Oscar for his performance as the Prince of Crime. The film also stars Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine.

The next Batman movie is on the way from War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves. Reeves was hired to work on The Batman in February last year. At that stage he was replacing Ben Affleck as writer and director, with Affleck choosing only to star in the movie. Since then there have been multiple rumors that Affleck will step down as Batman following the shortcomings of Justice League at the box office. However, the role has not yet been officially recast.

SDCC 2018: Aquaman -- Everything We Know So Far

By Veronica Larkin on Jul 18, 2018 11:51 pm

So far, the only heroes who have gotten standalone movies in the current DCEU are Superman and Wonder Woman, and this winter, Aquaman will be joining the club. Aquaman made his first big-screen appearance in a brief cameo in Batman Vs. Superman before featuring heavily in Justice League alongside the rest of the DC super-squad.

The upcoming film will focus completely on Aquaman's world. Warner Bros. finished with principal photography in October 2017, and though DC has yet to release any trailers for their latest film, we do have some information about what it might look like. We recently got the first poster, and it looks like a trailer will show up at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, hopefully along with a bunch of new information. Here's a look at what we know so far, as well as what we're hoping to get a look at during SDCC.

What It's About

The Aquaman movie will follow Arthur Curry as he reluctantly assumes the throne of Atlantis. He will be facing off with his half-brother, King Orm, who is upset about not getting to succeed to his father's to the throne. The larger task at hand, though, is stopping a war between the human world and the undersea world, which could end up destroying both. Black Manta will also factor in on the villain side of things, but the studio is being very tight lipped about the context for this.

The film is based on the Aquaman character from the comic book series, written by Mort Weisinger and illustrated by Paul Norris. Aquaman first appeared in a 1941 issue of More Fun Comics, before getting his own comic book series. In the comics, he also grew up as a normal human before getting the throne of Atlantis thrust upon him, displacing his disgruntled half brother. He became extra famous for being a founding member of the Justice League and getting an animated series in the 1950s.

Who's Who

Crew

-The film is directed by James Wan, whose repertoire includes a whole lot of horror films like The Conjuring franchise, the Insidious franchise, and the Saw franchise. Looks like we might be in for a creepy version of Aquaman. Then again, he also directed Furious 7, so who knows?

- The screenplay was written by Will Beall, who is also credited with writing the first draft of Justice League before being replaced. Technically, he was replaced for Aquaman as well, but he was brought back in the end.

-James Wan and Geoff Johns worked on the the story together. Geoff Johns was the Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment until he stepped down in 2018 to focus on writing and producing DC film and television projects.

Cast

-The long-haired muscle machine by the name of Jason Momoa, who we first saw in Game of Thrones as Khal Drogo back in Season 1, will of course be gracing our screens once again as the stoic but powerful Aquaman. His given name is Arthur Curry, a half-human, half-Atlantean heir to the throne of Atlantis who has super strength, super speed (but only when he's swimming), and the ability to communicate with marine-life.

-King Orm AKA Ocean Master will be played by Patrick Wilson and act as Aquaman's principal enemy in the movie. Orm is Aquaman's half brother, but because he is younger, Aquaman succeeds the throne and Orm is not happy about it.

-Black Manta, Aquaman's arch nemesis in the comics, will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen. He's in the beginning stages of his villain journey, so he isn't quite the fully fledged Black Manta that we know from the comics yet, but he will factor into the plot in some way.

-Amber Heard will be playing the role of Mera, a warrior princess who has been groomed by Queen Atlanna to take over as queen.

-Nicole Kidman will be playing Queen Atlanna, Aquaman's mother.

-Willem Dafoe will play Nuidis Vulko, an advisor and mentor to Aquaman. Interestingly enough, his character was set to appear in Justice League, but his part was cut because of time constraints.

What's Been Released So Far

There have been no trailers released, but we already have a decent idea of what the underwater world will look like from cast photos and from the glimpse we got in Justice League. Aquaman was featured pretty heavily in the movie and even ventured down to Atlantis, giving us an idea at what the city looks like, as well as the people who live there.

Atlantis was something of a murky city, with algae and barnacles growing on everything. Keep in mind though, that this is Zack Snyder's version of the underwater metropolis; James Wan has yet to put his spin on it.

The people who lived in Atlantis were like merpeople, minus the tails. They had some scales and trippy eyes, but generally had the appearance of human beings. The cast photos released by Entertainment Weekly feature lots of good action shots, with Amber Heard in a scaly swimsuit and Momoa rarely wearing a shit. They required air bubbles to speak in Justice League, but Aquaman director James Wan has already said that no air bubbles will be necessary for communication in the upcoming movie.

Beyond that, we have gotten a poster and trailer tease that offer some looks at the movie version of all of this. Wan also shared some insight into the difficulties of filming an underwater movie like this.

What We Want At Comic-Con

The only thing that we're sure about is that the first Aquaman trailer will be coming to Comic-Con Saturday, July 21. Warner Bros. released some footage from the film at CinemaCon, but the trailer is bound to give us some more information.

The trailer is looking like it will be full-length, as opposed to a teaser, so hopefully, we'll get a better look into Aquaman's world; what Wan's version of Atlantis looks like, what Aquaman will look like as King of Atlantis, how some of the underwater action sequences will play out, etc.

In a perfect world, we would love to see director James Wan, story creator Geoff Johns, and Jason Momoa, as well as the rest of the cast, in a panel at Comic-Con. It would also be great to find out more information about how Black Manta fits into all this because that's a giant mystery right now. A better look at his suit in particular would be really cool.

Aquaman will be released December 21, 2018 but until then, we will have to wait until this year's Comic-Con.

SDCC 2018: Wonder Woman 1984 -- Everything We Know So Far

By Veronica Larkin on Jul 18, 2018 11:46 pm

Not only was Wonder Woman DC's first female standalone superhero movie, it was also the company's first superhero movie to be directed by a woman. It was massively successful, setting a few box office records and becoming a favorite among many fans.

The hints from director Patty Jenkins have given us some idea of what the sequel, Wonder Woman: 1984, will look like, but we're hoping to find out even more at San Diego Comic-Con. In order to get ready for the biggest comic convention of the year, we've compiled everything we know about the highly-anticipated sequel so far. Here are all of the details revealed so far, as well as some thoughts on what we're hoping to see at SDCC 2018.

What It's About

Aside from the title, there's not a lot that we know so far about the plot of Wonder Woman: 1984, but in basic terms, it will be set in the 1980's and will have to do with the cold war. It will be set in the USA this time around, and Wonder Woman will be taking on soviet forces in some capacity. Whether she will be a spy, a soldier, a diplomat, or some other role is unclear at this point, but let's be honest, it's not like this movie is going to be about political maneuvering.

No Caption Provided

Who's Who

Crew

  • Like the first installment in the franchise, this movie will be directed by Patty Jenkins.
  • Jenkins and former DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns are working on the script together.

Cast

  • Gal Gadot will be returning to dazzle, us once again, as the epicly powerful Wonder Woman.
  • Chris Pine will--somehow-- be returning as Steve Trevor. Fans of the franchise know that his character supposedly died at the end of the first movie, which took place roughly 70 years before the next one is set, so who knows how they're making that one work. Some kind of time traveling, resurrection, or paternity reveal is sure to follow.
  • It's been confirmed that Kristen Wiig will be taking up the villain role as Cheetah. In the comics, Cheetah is Wonder Woman's arch nemesis, but she's not a Russian conspirator, so it's unclear how she will factor into the plot.
  • It's also been confirmed that Pedro Pascal, who you may know as Oberyn Martell from Game of Thrones, has been cast in an unrevealed role.

What's Been Released So Far

So far, there has been no official trailer for Wonder Woman: 1984, but we have gotten glimpses from the photos that have been released. There's a photo of Wonder Woman all suited up, with a few minor changes made to the suit from the first movie tweeted by Gal Gadot herself. It shows metal that gleams a little brighter, a bodice that is a more vibrant red, and a skirt that's a truer blue, giving her a sleeker look that harkens back to the classic Lynda Carter suit.

Patty Jenkins recently tweeted the first photo of Kristen Wiig as Cheetah, but it didn't give us all that much insight into the character; Kristen Wiig honestly just looks like herself in it. In the photo, she stands in a museum, wearing normal clothing, and staring up at a display that isn't in view in the photo.

Patty Jenkins confirmed Chris Pine's involvement with the film by sharing a photo of him in a matching jacket/pants combo featuring some very '80s tennis shoes and some even more '80s background characters. He looks a bit confused in the photo, so it's possible that they're hinting at some sort of time traveling situation, but of course, we can't be sure.

What We Want At Comic-Con

We know that the Wonder Woman squad will be at Warner Bros.'s Hall H presentation in some capacity. Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot will likely be there, but it hasn't been confirmed yet.

Mostly, there are a lot of remaining questions about the characters. There's the big Chris Pine question, namely, how does Chris Pine fit into this movie? It would be awesome to hear a bit more about Cheetah as well, like how she will factor into the plot and what her suit might look like. We also don't even know who Pedro Pascal is playing, just that he's an important character, so any information around that casting would be appreciated.

In a perfect world, we would get a trailer, but considering that James Wan already announced that he will drop the trailer for Aquaman at Comic-Con, and Wonder Woman: 1984 isn't coming out for more than a year, we're not holding our breath. That said, a trailer is still a possibility and some more plot details, especially around the central conflict, would be great.

Hopefully, we'll get enough information at San Diego Comic-Con to hold us over until Wonder Woman: 1984 comes out November 1, 2019.

PS4, Xbox One, And PC Get Free Access To Hitman's Marrakesh Level For A Limited Time

By Chris Reed on Jul 18, 2018 11:44 pm

Perhaps you missed out on the 2016 game Hitman. Maybe you didn't care for its episodic release schedule, or maybe you were waiting for the full game to come out the following year and let it slip by without playing it. Whatever the case, between now and July 31, you can play the game's third episode, Marrakesh, for free on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The free version is called Hitman - Summer Pack, and you can find links to it in the various digital stores below.

Each episode of Hitman is a new self-contained level that acts as a sandbox in which your job is to commit creative assassinations. The third episode brings players to Marrakesh, Morocco, where they can play through "The Gilded Gage" campaign mission, complete eight Escalation Contracts, earn 20 levels of location mastery (including six weapon/gear unlocks), and complete more than 90 challenges. Any progress you make will carry through if you purchase the full game, but you will lose access to Episode 3 once July 31 rolls around.

According to an IO Interactive blog post, "Offering two targets, the 'Gilded Cage' mission challenges players to eliminate private banker Claus Strandberg, held up inside the secure Swedish Consulate, and army General Reza Zaydan, protected by his elite squad of soldiers at a temporary headquarters in the heart of the city. Both targets will be challenging to reach and both will, of course, have some entertaining special moments attached to them that will allow players to dole out some poetic justice."

Also included in the Summer Pack is the ICA Facility location, a training ground that essentially acts as a tutorial for the game. It includes a good deal of content on its own, with two story missions, two Escalation Contracts, and over 40 challenges.

From GameSpot's Hitman review: "This 2016 take on Hitman is a brilliant game. Expansive level design and nearly unlimited replay value courtesy of so many routes to your assassinations (and so many methods with which to carry them out) make the experience almost completely different each and every time you play."

At E3 2018, Square Enix announced a sequel to Hitman, coming November 13. Unlike the original, it won't be released episodically. You can pre-order Hitman 2 now.

The Rugrats Are Back With Two New Projects Announced

By Veronica Larkin on Jul 18, 2018 11:28 pm

Looks like everyone's favorite cartoon babies are back to ease your 1990's nostalgia. THR reports that the hit animated series Rugrats is coming back in a big way. Not only has Viacom ordered a 26 episode series to air on Nickelodeon, but Paramount is developing a live-action adaptation with CGI characters to open in November 2020.

The original creators of the show, Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó, and Paul Germain, will return to executive produce the reboot. There aren't any plot details yet, but most of the beloved original characters, including Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Susie, and Angelica, will appear in the show. Some new characters will also be introduced, and the whole cast will enjoy some new adventures together.

Production on the show has reportedly already begun in Burbank. Viacom plans on announcing more production details in the coming months, including casting, and a date for the premiere of the first episode.

As for the movie, we don't know too much about it at this point, but we do know that David Goodman will pen the script and it is set to be released November 13, 2020.

Ant-Man And The Wasp's Credits Scene -- Here's What It Means

By Meg Downey on Jul 18, 2018 11:23 pm

Ant-Man and The Wasp has arrived in theaters, and it's already making a lot of money at the box office (if not quite as much as most Marvel movies). If you've still yet to see or--or you just did--and are wondering if it has any post-credits scenes to stick around for you, you're in luck. As is the Marvel way, it does indeed: There are a total of two after-credits scenes to check out after the movie "ends" (I guess we should lean into calling them stingers this time around, right?). The real question on everybody's mind has been whether the after-credits scenes connect Ant-Man and the Wasp with Avengers: Infinity War or 2019's Avengers 4. The answer? Unfortunately, yes. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Ant-Man and the Wasp.

In the first scene we get a look at what Scott, Hope, Hank, and Jan have been up to in the time immediately after Jan's return. They've taken their lab-sized bridge to the Quantum Realm and either totally rebuilt it or just conveniently shrunk it down with Pym Particles to fit in the back of a van, and now, Scott's about to make the jump. This time, he's not on a rescue mission, but after more "quantum particles," which he alludes to being part of Ghost's "cure" (the solution to her problem of phasing in and out of different quantum states uncontrollably).

It's worth noting that with this new, smaller bridge, Scott isn't using the submarine like vehicle that Hank used when he went to pull Jan out. He's just going in with the Ant-Man suit and a plucky attitude. That matters because just seconds after Scott successfully makes the jump, he suddenly finds himself out of communication with the team back in the normal sized universe operating the device's control panel. Unsurprisingly, we learn that all three of them were dissolved into dust care of Thanos's Infinity War finger snap, right at the most inopportune time, leaving Scott presumably stranded in the Quantum Realm with no way to get out, no way to communicate with the outside world, and no one alive with the knowledge that he's even there at all.

It's a pretty bleak fate, given how obscure the Quantum Realm is to begin with, and with Hank, Jan, and Hope gone, the list of people smart enough to engineer a way to reach him--or even aware that the Quantum Realm exists--shrinks pretty dramatically.

The second post-credits scene takes place immediately after the first. We're taken to the Lang house--eerily deserted, with the TV cut to an emergency broadcasting channel. Upstairs, the giant ant "stand in" Hope programmed to mimic Scott's routine keeps on keeping on, oblivious to the apocalypse, playing Scott's drum set.

No Caption Provided

There's basically an endless list of possibilities revolving around the Quantum Realm. Obviously, part of Avengers 4 is going to have to deal with Scott either getting out of or going further into the Quantum Realm. We learned in this movie that quantum particles can literally affect the nature of reality and can cause (or, significantly, reverse) the phasing of matter between parallel universes. We also learned that spending enough time in the Quantum Realm alters one physiology and can imbue a person with the ability to control--or at least manipulate--quantum particles in people's bodies.

Granted, it's pretty unlikely that Scott is going to stay trapped in the Quantum Realm for as long as Jan was, but we shouldn't rule out the possibility that he's going to come out the other side displaying similar energy manipulation abilities, at least temporarily.

With abilities like that, or with the quantum particles he harvested (and, maybe, can continue to harvest), there's a whole new list of potential failsafes against the Infinity Stones. It's probable--maybe even likely--that when the Stones destroy matter, they're not actually vaporizing it, but instead forcing it to phase out of our reality into another--maybe even into a place that is touching or related to the Quantum Realm. Failing that, it's certainly more than possible that the quantum particles are a way in which the Stones can be reliably counteracted; even if people were literally reduced to dust, if quantum particles can alter the fabric of reality, what's to say they couldn't reach into an alternate universe and pull a new version of a vaporized person back into our dimension?

It's also worth considering that the Quantum Realm may have literally been out of reach of Thanos's snap all together, and thus, in one way or another, immune to the Infinity Stones' powers. Of course, there's the chance that Scott just got lucky enough to not be one of the people randomly chosen, but he's atypical for the surviving group in that he wasn't one of the original Avengers, which is one of the major commonalities between nearly all of the remaining heroes post-Infinity War. If the Quantum Realm is somehow safe from the Stones abilities, it may come into play in a totally different way come Avengers 4 next year.

Check Out This $175 Overwatch Hanzo Statue

By Chris Reed on Jul 18, 2018 11:22 pm

Blizzard's latest addition to its line of premium Overwatch statutes is Hanzo, the bow-wielding assassin. The first wave of Hanzo statues is scheduled to ship sometime before the end of Q4 2018, but it's not cheap. You can pre-order it now for $175 (limit 10 per customer).

But that price tag begins to make sense when you look at the close-up photos Blizzard has released. This 13-inch statue is hand-painted with intricate detail. It features the nimble archer nocking an arrow into his bow, with his scarf billowing behind him.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7

Hanzo isn't the first $175 statue Blizzard has made available to Overwatch fans. Similarly sized Tracer, Genji, Widowmaker, and Reaper statues are available now, and a Mercy statue is scheduled to release by the end of Q4 this year.

Nor is $175 the only price point for Overwatch collectibles on the Blizzard Gear Store. You can buy Overwatch Figma figures for $80 each, Nendoroids for $50, or Funko Pops for $10 (the D.Va Funko Pop is "super-sized" and costs $25). If you're looking to unload even more money, you can go all out and buy a 20-inch D.Va statue for $450. There's also an assortment of Overwatch shirts, leggings, and scarves available.

In other recent Overwatch news, Blizzard raised $12.7 million for breast cancer research by selling a pink Mercy skin and a special t-shirt. Disney and Blizzard have also struck a deal to broadcast the Overwatch League playoffs on Disney channels, like ESPN and Disney XD.

We're now well into July 2018, and with a new month comes another batch of free titles for PlayStation Plus subscribers. As per usual, July's PS Plus lineup consists of six games divided up across PS4, PS3, and Vita, all of which are available to download at no charge through the end of the month.

Headlining PS4's selection of freebies is Heavy Rain, the narrative-driven game from Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream. Heavy Rain originally launched for PS3 back in 2010 and was re-released on Sony's current-gen console in 2016. Joining it is Absolver, a unique and flexible third-person adventure/fighting game in which players can fully customize their fighting style.

On the PS3 side, Plus subscribers can now download the classic 3D platformer Rayman 3 HD, as well as Extreme Exorcism, a retro-style platformer in which players hunt their own ghosts. Big Xbox One Game Sale Starts Soon, Here's When

By Eddie Makuch on Jul 18, 2018 11:12 pm

In the market for some new Xbox games? A big sale is coming up soon, it seems. A post on the Xbox website reveals that Microsoft is bringing back its "Ultimate Game Sale" this week. It'll run July 19 through July 30, according to the post. [Update: Major Nelson has shared additional details and formally announced the sale. It will bring discounts of up to 65% on more than 700 games--presumably across Xbox One and Xbox 360--with Xbox Live Gold members able to save an extra 10%. This all begins on July 19 at 12:01 AM PT / 3:01 AM ET / 7:01 AM GMT. PC gamers may also benefit, thanks to Play Anywhere support in certain digital Xbox games.]

Microsoft hasn't actually announced the sale yet, as it was only referenced as part of a sweepstakes event called the "Ultimate Dopplegamer Sweepstakes." As part of this, you can dress up like an Xbox character for a chance to win a trip to PAX West in Seattle.

Last year's Ultimate Game Sale, which also ran during July, offered discounts on more than 300 titles, though there is no word on how this year's sale will compare. If it does indeed begin on July 19, we expect to learn a lot more about it very soon.

While you wait for that sale to begin, you can take advantage of this week's regular weekly deals. The Fortnite founder's pack, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Okami HD, and Dragon Ball Xenoverse are all on sale this week--here's a rundown of all the weekly deals.

Of Course Fortnite Funko Pops Are Coming

By Steve Watts on Jul 18, 2018 11:08 pm

Fortnite is the biggest game around right now, and what better way to immortalize its success than with a set of collectible figurines? Epic Games and Funko are partnering up to release ten different product lines this holiday, including Pop figures, Pint Size Heroes, Vynl, keychains, 5 Star Figures, and Pop apparel. All of it will be rolling out this holiday season.

Which characters would be immortalized in plastic and vinyl have yet to be seen. Fortnite is known for a constantly shifting story with large-scale events that dramatically change the world roughly every two months. By the time the holiday season rolls around, it will switch over at least a couple more times. So either Funko is getting a very advanced look at Epic's long-term plans, or it's relying on iconic figures like the Fortnite llama.

Most recently, Season 5 kicked off with some massive map changes and a distinct historical flavor, including a rad new skin inspired by Scandinavian mythology. You can check out all the Battle Pass rewards and read up on some tips for how to get them.

"We are thrilled to collaborate and partner with Epic Games to create the inaugural Fortnite product collection and to bring these characters to life for the first time," said Funko CEO Brian Mariotti, in a statement. "This collection will be a true celebration of Fortnite's incredible popularity and cultural significance, and we believe our Funko Fortnite collectibles will strongly resonate with fans of the game."

Great Deal On An Xbox Live Gold Subscription

By Chris Reed on Jul 18, 2018 10:40 pm

Right now Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners can grab a great deal on an Xbox Live Gold membership. Instead of the usual annual price of $60, you can get a 12-month Xbox Live Gold subscription for $40 from the Microsoft Store. That's a 33% savings on what's already a pretty great deal for Xbox owners. The offer ends August 1.

The deal is good for new members and current members alike. If you're already in the middle of an Xbox Live Gold subscription, buying this will add 12 months to it.

Xbox Live Gold is Microsoft's paid online service for Xbox One and Xbox 360. In addition to letting you play your games online, it also gets you free games each month through the Games With Gold program. These include two Xbox One and two Xbox 360 games each month, and the 360 games are always backward compatible and playable on Xbox One.

No Caption Provided

The Games with Gold for July, for instance, are Assault Android Cactus and Death Squared for Xbox One and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction for Xbox 360 (though the availability window for Virtua Fighter 5 has ended). The quality of the games varies from month to month, but there's usually something worth playing.

Additionally, Gold members get exclusive discounts on the Microsoft Store each week, often on popular games. As a matter of fact, Microsoft's annual Ultimate Game Sale is running July 19-30. All told, Xbox Live Gold tends to be a very good deal, even if you only play a fraction of the free games in a given year.

You're not likely to find a better deal than this anytime soon; $40 is about as low as this annual subscription ever goes. So if you're planning to start (or keep) an Xbox Live Gold membership, take advantage of the offer here before August 1.

Fallout 76: Release Date And What We Know So Far

By Chris Pereira on Jul 18, 2018 10:18 pm

Only a couple years after Fallout 4's release, Bethesda surprised fans by officially announcing Fallout 76, the next entry in its beloved post-apocalyptic RPG franchise. The new game was revealed in a trailer after a series of teases, and Bethesda discussed it in more detail at E3 2018. While there's still so much we do not yet know about Bethesda's upcoming game, the company has offered some clarity on Fallout 76's most curious features and additions to the Fallout formula.

To ensure you're kept up to date on everything there is to know about Fallout 76, we've compiled all the information we have on the game so far: the platforms it's on, its online functionality, its anti-griefing features, and where the game falls in the series' timeline.

What is Fallout 76?

Fallout 76 is a prequel to all of the previous Fallout games. Set in 2102, you play an inhabitant of Vault 76 who emerges from the shelter 25 years after the bombs fell on America. Your task is simple: explore what remains of post-apocalyptic America and rebuild civilization.

Longtime fans will likely recognize Vault 76; although it's not a place we've visited before, this isn't the series' first mention of it. Both Fallout 3 and 4 reference it and, according to the Fallout Wikia, this West Virginia-based vault was occupied by 500 of of America's best and brightest minds. Unlike the more grotesque experimental vaults in the Fallout universe, Vault 76 is a control vault intended to be opened 20 or so years after a nuclear war. But if the Vault was supposed to open 20 years after the bombs fell, why have 25 years gone by? The story likely has a few surprises in store.

Fallout 76 uses the Creation Engine, the same engine used to make Fallout 4, but it will purportedly feature much more graphical detail than its predecessor. Game director Todd Howard has said that Fallout 76 has new rendering and lighting technology, which allows for "16 times" the detail.

Is It An Online Survival Game?

Fallout 76 is a much different sort of game from its predecessors. It's "entirely online," but don't worry, you'll be able to play it solo too. According to Bethesda, the idea to take this approach to open-world survival came four years ago, when it started to work on building a multiplayer Fallout experience. Howard described the game's approach to survival as "softcore," which means death doesn't equal loss of progression.

You can form a party with up to three other players. You won't be able to manage your placement in servers when you login, as you'll automatically be inserted into a session with others upon booting up the game. Of course, you also have the option simply join alongside your friends and play together.

Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7Gallery image 8Gallery image 9Gallery image 10

Howard commented that Fallout 76 will have dedicated servers that will support the game "now and for years to come." At launch, there will only be public servers, but Bethesda plans to introduce private servers that will allow players to invite friends to play in order to prevent undesirable behavior. According Bethesda Senior Vice President Pete Hines, it will actually be incredibly difficult to participate in ill-behavior. For instance, the game's PvP works more like issuing a challenge to somebody, preventing folks from pushing any attempts at griefing too far.

Some classic mechanics from past games will be changing to accommodate the shift to online play. For example, V.A.T.S has been reconfigured to work in real time, while still allowing players to target specific enemy body parts.

How Big Is The World?

According to Howard, Fallout 76's world is four times the size of Fallout 4. There are six different regions to explore, and each has its own unique style, risks, and rewards. Confirmed areas include the West Virginia State Capitol, The Greenbrier, Woodburn Circle, New River Gorge Bridge, and Camden Park. Contained within each area is a variety of new creatures to encounter, some of which are based on West Virginian folklore.

What Can You Do?

Like previous games, players will spend the majority of their time exploring and completing quests. However, Fallout 76 will not feature any human non-player characters, as all surviving humans will be controlled by active players. Instead, the game will use combination of robot NPCs, collectible recordings, and environmental storytelling in order to give players what they need to piece together quests and the story at large.

Given the game's premise of rebuilding the world, there will be base-building elements similar to Fallout 4. You will be able to set up a bases anywhere using an item called the Construction and Assembly Mobile Platform, or CAMP. These can be placed down in the world and allow you to construct an impromptu camp. At E3, we got to see the player laying down walls and decorating the base with pool tables, toilets, and other household objects. As the "mobile platform" part of the name implies, your CAMP can also be picked up and relocated, allowing you to move your base anywhere in the world.

No Caption Provided

While you can help build the world, you can also destroy it. If you have the necessary nuclear launch codes, it's actually possible to access a missile silo to fire a nuke at any point on the map. Doing so irradiates the chosen area, but it also allows for the opportunity to discover rare weapons, gear, and items. Be wary; nuking an area also causes more powerful enemies to show up, making it more difficult to survive.

As an online experience, player choice is said to be incredibly important, going as far as giving players the freedom to choose who are the heroes and who are the villains. Early footage showcased multiple players engaging in combat and participating in friendly activities, which seems to indicate that players have the freedom to choose their paths in the world of Fallout 76.

Who's Developing It?

Bethesda Game Studios, the Maryland-based developer responsible for the Elder Scrolls series and both Fallout 3 and Fallout 4, is at work on the game. In addition, Bethesda Game Studios Austin--formerly BattleCry Studios--assisted in fine-tuning the Creation Engine to support multiplayer functionality.

Release Date

Fallout 76 is being developed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and is currently scheduled to be released on November 14. Howard confirmed that a beta is scheduled to occur sometime before the game's release, but no further details have been announced.

Unfortunately, there's no word about a Nintendo Switch release, which didn't seem out of the question after the Skyrim re-release made it to that platform.

WoW Makes A Welcome Change To How Subscriptions Work

By Kevin Knezevic on Jul 18, 2018 10:05 pm

World of Warcraft's seventh expansion, Battle for Azeroth, is only a few weeks away. In addition to rolling out a big pre-patch that implements new features and sets the stage for the upcoming expansion, Blizzard has now lowered the barrier of entry for players interested in just jumping in to the long-running MMO.

Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft and all of its current six expansions are now included in the game's monthly subscription fee. Previously, players had to at least purchase the base game and subscribe in order to play, but now they'll get access to all of the game's content through the 2016 Legion expansion simply by paying WoW's $15 per month subscription.

For players who have yet to take the plunge or have since fallen out of WoW but are interested in its upcoming expansion, this is a good opportunity to catch up on the game before Battle for Azeroth arrives. However, those who'd like to play the upcoming expansion will still need to purchase it when it releases. The standard edition of Battle for Azeroth costs $50, while the Digital Deluxe edition runs for $70 and includes two mounts, a pet, and WoW-themed content for other Blizzard games such as Overwatch, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm.

Battle for Azeroth launches next month, on August 14. It adds a variety of new content and areas to explore to the long-running MMO, including two continents--Kul Tiras and Zandalar--as well as several new islands. It also raises the game's level cap to 120 and introduces a number of new dungeons and raids to undertake.

Ahead of Battle for Azeroth's release, Blizzard recently rolled out a big pre-expansion patch for the game. Most notably, the patch implemented the new War Mode system, which allows players to toggle PvP on or off from Orgrimmar or Stormwind, and reworks the PvP talent system. New events in Teldrassil and Lordaeron are also slated to begin the week of July 24 and continue until the expansion launches.

New Battle Royale Game Pulled From Sale After A Week As Dev Offers Surprisingly Frank Apology

By Steve Watts on Jul 18, 2018 10:02 pm

The Culling 2 launched recently, but it went so poorly that the studio is issuing a mea culpa and reversing course entirely. In a statement from Xaviant director of operations Josh Van Veld, he acknowledged that the sequel was not up to snuff, and promised to do better.

"That launch was not successful," he said in the video above. "The Culling 2 is not a game that you asked for, and it's not the game that you expect as a worthy successor to The Culling." As a result, he said, Xaviant is in touch with the various storefronts to pull the game and issue refunds.

Going forward, Xaviant will be going back to the original The Culling. That's not just relying on the older game--Van Veld said the studio "changed too much too fast" in the first game, and in the process disrupted what fans had enjoyed about it. For that, he apologized, and said that the original game is coming back. The original build, before it had undergone any changes, will be coming to test servers for PC players, and remain there and playable for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, the team will be making the current version that's on regular servers and modifying it to imitate the original build and using that as its platform to build upon. That version will be made free-to-play once the update comes, to invite back lapsed players and grow the audience. Fans had expressed dissatisfaction since the studio moved on from the first game very quickly, and then launched The Culling 2 without an Early Access version first.

"It's definitely been difficult to deal with the launch of The Culling 2, but it's been valuable for us in terms of making us look inward and look backward and see how we got here as a studio and as a team," Van Veld said.

This follows a week of some very frank admissions on social media, first saying it needed to do some soul-searching, and then following up the next day with a meme poking fun at its problematic game launch:

New Xbox Hardware Teased For Gamescom

By Steve Watts on Jul 18, 2018 09:09 pm

Microsoft is preparing for Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, and has started to tease what we can expect out of the show. Among other surprises, the company is promising "new hardware and accessories" for Xbox. But don't get your hopes up for a massive console reveal just yet.

The tease comes from a Major Nelson blog post detailing the company's Gamescom plans. It will be hosting a live Inside Xbox show from the Xbox booth on Tuesday, August 21, which boasts "lots of news, all-new Xbox hardware and accessories, and features on upcoming titles that we can't wait to tell you more about and perhaps even a few surprises." It's doubtful the company would out the successor to the Xbox One X this way, so set your expectations around possible hardware revisions or controllers.

The post also teases that Gamescom will feature demos of Forza Horizon 4, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, plus the first playable demos of State of Decay 2's Daybreak Pack and a new mode for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

Last year, Microsoft's Gamescom presentation included a special Minecraft Xbox One X and a special "Project Scorpio" special edition that paid homage to the first Xbox.

PS4 Game Deals At The PlayStation Store: Fortnite, GTA 5, And More

By Chris Reed on Jul 18, 2018 09:00 pm

Each Tuesday, Sony updates the digital PlayStation Store with a new set of deals. The current sale is relatively small--especially compared to the massive Mid-Year Sale last week--but the deals it has are pretty appealing, especially if you're a fan of Fortnite or Grand Theft Auto V. Let's take a look at what games PS4 owners can save money on this week.

In a deal that's sure to please many of the millions of fans out there, all Fortnite packages are half off on PS4. Why pay money for a game that's free? These Founder's Packs come with the "Save the World" PvE mode, plus an assortment of in-game goodies. For instance, the Standard Founder's Pack ($20, down from $40) includes four exclusive in-game banner icons, six Daily Loot Pinata Packs, and an exclusive Founder's Loot Pinata Pack. If you want to go all in, you can get the Limited Edition Founder's Pack for $75 (instead of its usual $150). It comes with lots of additional exclusives items, plus XP boosts, extra inventory slots, and more. Note that Epic says Save the World mode will be free for all players once it leaves early access.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is on sale for $20 this week. It just received a major update that addresses common complaints, including removing the in-game marketplace, making sweeping changes to Shadow Wars, and tweaking the Nemesis system. If any of those issues kept you from playing before, now would be a good time to dive in.

Grand Theft Auto V is on sale for $20--its lowest price ever on the PlayStation Store. Also on sale is the Premium Online Edition, which comes with the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack to help players "jumpstart their criminal empire." And if in-game cash appeals to you, you can save money on various bundles that come with GTA bucks for use in GTA Online.

A handful of pre-order deals are also available now. You can get Darksiders III Digital Deluxe Edition for $70 instead of its usual $80. The much-acclaimed action platformer Dead Cells can be reserved for $20 instead of the $25 it'll cost when it launches next month. And Shenmue I & II, also launching next month, gets a modest $3 discount, bringing it to $27.

Those are the standout deals, but for the full lineup of PS4 game deals, check the PlayStation Store.

Venom: Here's A Close Look At The Marvel Character In The New Movie

By Mat Elfring on Jul 18, 2018 08:49 pm

Venom is still a few months out from hitting theaters around the globe, and fans are finally getting a better look at the upcoming Sony movie, featuring a Marvel character, that does not take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Movie rights can be confusing.

Recently, Entertainment Weekly revealed a couple of shots from the movie, and one of these images is a close-up of the titular character himself, Venom. As you can see in the first image below, the live-action version of Venom closely resembles his comic book counterpart, from the terrifying teeth and gigantic mouth to the large white areas where his eyes are. Also, he looks super-slimy.

No Caption Provided

Venom follows journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) who becomes infected with an alien symbiote, which takes over its human host. Brock struggles to retain his humanity and learns this symbiote gives him superhuman abilities. However, Dr. Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed) wants the symbiote for himself and will do anything in his power to get it back.

Additionally, EW revealed another photo featuring Brock strapped to a chair with Drake standing next to him--pictured below. Drake doesn't look too happy with Brock, and why should he be? If you've seen the trailer for the film, then you know Brock's mission--as a journalist--is to expose the illegal testing Drake is going at his company, The Life Foundation.

Hardy himself is excited for the role and finds the character of Eddie Brock extremely appealing. "There's a tragic clown element, which I find funny and is harmonious with some of the work that I like to do," Hardy told EW. "There's something funny about the circumstances of having a gift but it's a tragic gift. It's a superpower you don't really want, but at the same time, you love it. It makes you feel special. He's a reluctant hero and an anti-hero."

We do know quite a bit about the upcoming film, but Venom fans will be learning a lot during Comic-Con's Sony panel on Friday, July 20. Venom comes to theaters on October 4.

Trailer For M. Night's Glass Coming Soon, Watch The Teaser Now

By Eddie Makuch on Jul 18, 2018 08:41 pm

The first teaser for M. Night Shyamalan's next film, Glass, has come online--but there isn't much to go on. The very brief video doesn't show much in the way of actual footage but it does provide some mysterious dialogue and sequences that may be enough to get you hyped. And the good news? The full trailer is coming this Friday to kick off San Diego Comic-Con.

Glass is a sequel of sorts to Shyamalan's 2016 movie Split, which features James McAvoy as a person with more than 20 different personalities. It was revealed at the end of that film that Split takes place in the same universe as Shyamalan's 2000 film Unbreakable starring Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. In Glass, the characters played by Willis and Jackson will team up to hunt down McAvoy's character, Crumb, which is an iteration of his personality with superhuman powers called the Beast.

It's going to be a big week for Glass, as Shyamalan and the cast will attend a panel at San Diego Comic-Con's massive Hall 5 on July 20. There will be some kind of "surprise" for this panel, though it remains to be seen what that is. Shyamalan is pretty amped up about this.

In addition to a cool-looking poster, some striking images from Glass have been released, showcasing the three main characters. The movie also stars Sarah Paulson, Anya Taylor Joy, and Charlayne Woodard. The film opens on January 18, 2019.

Madden NFL 19's Cover Athlete Is Antonio Brown

By Steve Watts on Jul 18, 2018 08:30 pm

Confirming prior leaks, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown will grace the covers of Madden NFL 19 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, as well as its mobile counterpart, Madden NFL Overdrive later this year. He joins Terrell Owens, who will appear as this year's cover athlete on the Hall of Fame edition.

Brown is known for his end-zone celebrations, which makes him a natural fit to promote one of the marquee features of this year's Madden. "Real Player Motion" promises to make the in-game players move like the real people, adding a bit of personality to your on-the-field play. He's also one of the rare players to be rated a 99 in the Madden Player ratings.

"I am beyond honored to be on the cover of both Madden games," Brown in a statement. "There's a lot of milestones athletes dream of, and after being inducted into the Madden 99 Club earlier this year, and now appearing on the cover of this year's games, it's clear that business is not just booming, but I'm also among the all-time greatest with these honors."

Madden NFL 19 is coming on August 10, and Overdrive will follow as a mobile update on August 15. Purchasing the Hall of Fame Edition will get you early access on August 7, and EA Access and Origin Access members can play for up to 10 hours starting on August 2. Origin Access Premier members get to play on August 2 as well, but without the time restrictions. For more details check out our pre-order guide.

Xbox One Special Camo Armed Forces Controller Returning In August

By Kevin Knezevic on Jul 18, 2018 08:30 pm

The special edition Xbox One Armed Forces controller is returning once again. Following its initial run in 2014 (and subsequent re-release in 2015), Microsoft has announced it is launching a new iteration of the camo gamepad due to "popular demand," and it's slated to arrive next month, on August 14.

Dubbed the Armed Forces II controller, the new gamepad sports the same camouflage pattern as the previous incarnation, albeit this time it boasts a "hint of orange" on the Bind button. It also features a 3.5mm stereo jack, Bluetooth, textured grip, and all of the other features available in modern Xbox One controllers. You can take a look at the controller below.

In the US, the Armed Forces II controller will be available exclusively from Walmart and Microsoft Stores. Like most other special edition Xbox One controllers, it will retail for the slightly premium price of $70--$5 more than the cost of the original iteration. Microsoft says that "select markets" will also receive 14-day trials for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass along with the controller. You can pre-order one from the Microsoft Store here.

In addition to the Armed Forces II gamepad, Microsoft recently announced a cool-looking special edition Sport White Xbox One controller. That is scheduled to launch in the US and Canada later this month, on July 31, and will likewise retail for $70. Players will also be able to purchase a matching Sport White Xbox One controller charging stand for an additional $50.

$12 Gets You This Bunch Of Steam Games, Including Conan Exiles

By Chris Reed on Jul 18, 2018 08:28 pm

Humble has begun gradually revealing its next bundle of games for its Humble Monthly subscription service. More games are generally revealed later in the month, with the full bundle revealed once subscriptions for that month have been closed off. This month's Humble Monthly will close for new subscribers on August 3.

Revealed so far for the August Humble Monthly are A Hat In Time, The Escapists 2, and Conan Exiles--all of which unlock immediately when you subscribe, usually as Steam codes. That's already a value of nearly $90. Seeing as a Humble Monthly subscription costs $12 per month and more games will be revealed later, that adds up to one of the best deals in gaming. And unlike some other subscription services, you get to play and keep the games forever, even if you cancel your Humble Monthly subscription.

July's Humble Monthly ended up offering nine games, including Portal Knights, Hearts of Iron IV, Blackwake, and more. June's was particularly appealing, totaling eight games, including Destiny 2 and Yooka-Laylee. The full value of any given month is usually around $200.

Humble throws in extra bonuses for Humble Monthly subscribers as well. All active subscribers get 10% off every game on the Humble Store. They also get access to the Humble Trove, a collection of mostly well-received indie games they can download and play any time. And if you subscribe for a full year, you save $12 off the monthly rate and (for a limited time) you get $25 added to your Humble Store account. Plus, 5% of Humble's proceeds go to charity.

All in all, Humble Monthly is one of the best deals in PC gaming. And with three well-received games being the early unlocks for August, now is a great time to get started.

Xbox One Adds Two More Backwards Compatible Games

By Steve Watts on Jul 18, 2018 08:24 pm

Two more games have been added to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list: the supernatural action game Dante's Inferno, and the strategic competitive game R.U.S.E. Dante's Inferno will also be added to the EA Access Vault later this week, allowing subscribers to that service play it for free.

Dante's Inferno was EA's attempt at capturing some of the God of War magic, with a violent horror-inspired action game based on religious mythology. This one was based loosely on the famous epic poem by Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy, and so it had allusions and reinterpretations of famous hellish imagery. R.U.S.E. is a competitive real-time strategy game from 2010 with a focus on decoys and information warfare.

Both Dante's Inferno and R.U.S.E. received generally positive reviews on GameSpot sister site Metacritic--a 75 and 76 average, respectively. As with all games when ushered into the backwards compatibility list, if you already own them digitally they will show up in your collection automatically. Physical copies can be played by popping the disc into your system

That list is growing larger by the week, as newly introduced games have made for a pretty massive list of backwards compatible games. Microsoft has been pushing this initiative, both to add value to its regular Games With Gold rotation, and to boast a massive back-catalog for its Game Pass subscription service. If you need some pointers on the best backwards compatible games, we have you covered.

Madden NFL 19 Player Ratings Revealed, Here's Who Is A 99

By Eddie Makuch on Jul 18, 2018 08:23 pm

The final list of player ratings for Madden NFL 19 have come online, revealing how each NFL player stacks up in this year's pro football game from EA Sports. As summarised by Pasta Padre, The Philadelphia Eagles, who won the Super Bowl in February, have nine players rated 90 or above and 26 players rated 80 or above, and are considered the strongest team this year. The Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, and New Orleans Saints trail closely behind.

There are seven players rated 99 this year, including New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown, Los Angeles Rams defensive ed Aaron Donald, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, Carolina Panthers middle linebacker Luke Kuechly, Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller, and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Bear in mind that all of these player ratings will change as the season plays out. The 2018-2019 NFL season kicks off in August and runs through February 2019.

You can see all of the player ratings at the EA Sports website. You should also be aware that EA added a dozen new ratings categories for offence, including Short, Medium, and Deep Route running, as well as Run Block Power, Throw Under Pressure, and Break Sack.

As is tradition, some NFL players have responded to their Madden ratings, in particular to voice their displeasure. Leonard Fournette of the Jacksonville Jaguars doesn't agree with his 87 overall rating. Another oddity this year is that the longsnapper position is apparently not in Madden 19, which means longsnappers are rated as tight ends. And in turn, this meant that some longsnappers had poor overall ratings, like Casey Kreiter of the Denver Broncos, who is taking it all in stride.

Madden 19 launches in August for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while the game is also coming to PC in a move that marks the franchise's first time back on PC in a decade. In other news, the game will deliver graphical improvements, not the least of which are advancements to how sweat looks.

WWE 2K19 Skips Nintendo Switch Version This Year

By Eddie Makuch on Jul 18, 2018 08:22 pm

2K Sports brought WWE 2K18 to Nintendo Switch last year, but it suffered from a number of problems like framerate issues and more. This year's WWE 2K19 is skipping Switch altogether, a representative for 2K Sports recently confirmed to PowerUp Gaming.

"WWE 2K19 will not be available on Nintendo Switch," the spokesperson said. 2K is focused on making the best possible experience for WWE 2K fans and will continue evaluating all opportunities to deliver the franchise across additional platforms."

It's a bummer for wrestling fans hoping to play on the Nintendo console. Given that the PS4 and Xbox One have bigger installed bases, it makes sense that 2K would focus on those systems, but that doesn't make it any less easier to stomach for Nintendo fans.

Another sports game, Madden NFL 19, is skipping Nintendo Switch this year.

The Deluxe and Collector's Editions of WWE 2K19 will be available on October 5, while the Standard Edition of WWE 2K19 will be available on October 9. In other news, 2K has confirmed that Ronda Rousey will be available as a pre-order bonus.

PUBG PC Update Now Out On Test Server, Adds New Vehicle, Weapon, And Custom Match Beta

By Kevin Knezevic on Jul 18, 2018 08:03 pm

PUBG Corp. continues rolling out a regular stream of new updates for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Patch #18 for the PC version is now available on the game's test servers, and it introduces a new Sanhok-exclusive vehicle and weapon, along with a handful of other features and tweaks, to the popular battle royale game. [Update: PUBG Corp. has confirmed that Patch #18 will be rolled over to the live game tonight, July 18, following a four-hour period of server maintenance that begins at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET.]

The aforementioned weapon is the QBU, a new DMR that only appears on the smaller, tropical themed Sanhok map. It takes the place of the Mini 14 on Sanhok and uses a standard, 10-round magazine of 5.56mm ammo, which can be increased to 20 rounds with an extended magazine.

Also added to Sanhok is the Rony, a type of pickup truck exclusive to the new map. The Rony can carry up to four passengers and, according to PUBG Corp., "excels at moving across Sanhok's hilly landscapes." The developer also notes that it's one of the largest vehicles available on Sanhok, making it equally suitable for cover and transportation. You can take a look at it and the QBU below.

In addition to the new vehicle and weapon, PUBG Corp. has implemented the ability to create custom matches. The feature is still a work-in-progress, but it's available for all players in open beta on the test servers and allows them to adjust a variety of settings and make their own custom game mode. PUBG Corp. says it plans to expand the custom matches test to live servers "once the system is proven to be stable," although the developer hasn't provided a time frame. You can read more about the custom match beta on Steam.

Finally, Patch #18 resolves a handful of bugs, including one that allowed players to see through certain buildings in Sanhok and one that would prevent players from discarding extended magazines when their backpack was full. PUBG Corp. hasn't announced when these changes will be implemented in the live game, but the developer says they will be rolled over to live servers "once the testing period is complete." You can find the full patch notes for the update on Steam.
