The Lego Movie 2 Comic-Con Footage Shows The Two Sides Of Chris Pratt

By Michael Rougeau on Jul 22, 2018 11:25 pm

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part portion of Warner Bros.' massive Hall H panel at Comic-Con 2018 opened with a LEGO version of Aisha Tyler moderating a pre-recorded panel with LEGO Batman, LEGO Aquaman (both versions--the classic orange-suited one and the Jason Momoa Justice League version), plus Lego Movie stars Emmet (Chris Pratt) and Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks).

The unfinished, exclusive LEGO Movie 2 footage shown gave attendees a new glimpse at the now-apocalyptic LEGO world--basically, it's Mad Max with LEGOs. "Everything was awesome. Now, everything is bleak," Wyldstyle says. Of course, Emmet quickly breaks the mood by cheerily showing up with coffee. In the footage, the movie's new villain, General Mayhem, kidnaps Wyldstyle. LEGO Harley Quinn points out that rescuing her is a "suicide mission," a tongue-in-cheek reference to Suicide Squad.

Most importantly, the clip introduced us to Rex Dangervest, a new character also voiced by Chris Pratt, who among his many jobs is a "raptor trainer," a cute little Jurassic World joke. The two characters show the dual sides of Pratt, who, as the actor pointed out during the panel, started his career as the hapless Andy on Parks and Rec and is now a superhero and action movie star.

Unlike the first LEGO Movie, which was directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the follow-up will be helmed by Mike Mitchell. It's set five years after the first film and, along with those mentioned above, the cast consists of Jonah Hill (Green Lantern), Will Arnett (Batman), Channing Tatum (Superman), and Stephanie Beatriz (Sweet Mayhem). It releases on February 8, 2019.

Comic-Con 2018: DC's Legends Of Tomorrow Season 4 Airs This Fall

By Aiden Strawhun on Jul 22, 2018 11:13 pm

From creepy furbies to demonic beings, Season 4 of Legends of Tomorrow has some old and new faces. As we saw from the new SDCC 2018 trailer, the series is set to return to The CW in October.

Season 4 will follow the Legends after they've defeated Mallus with Beebo, a giant furby-esque stuffed animal. Now that the Legends have proven themselves, "fugitives"--creatures from myths, fairy tales, and lore--invade the real world. The Time Bureau isn't prepared to deal with these magical beings, so it's left up to the ragtag band of superheroes, the Legends, to take on the threat. You can see the entire sneak peek in the trailer above.

Legends of Tomorrow will air on The CW on October 22 at 6 pm PST / 7 pm CST. Right now, we don't have word if the series will come to DC's streaming service, DC Universe, which is set to release this fall with the premiere of Titans.

In other DC news, Supergirl got a brand new SDCC trailer showing off a new suit, and we got a new look at The Flash Season 5. The Aquaman standalone film also got a new trailer at SDCC, showing off more details about its story and exclusive footage.

Comic-Con 2018: Supergirl Season 4 Trailer Reveals New Suit

By Dan Auty on Jul 22, 2018 10:24 pm

Fans of The CW's DC output have come to expect new seasons of their favorite shows to arrive each fall, and this year will be no different. Supergirl is one of the series that returns in October, alongside The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Arrow. The first trailer for Supergirl Season 4 has been revealed at San Diego Comic-Con.

The trailer is extremely dramatic and centres around a voiceover from the evil Agent Liberty (Sam Witwer). He talks about waves of destruction and orders mankind to stand up against "the invaders"--presumably superheroes like Supergirl. There's also loads of impressively staged city-wide destruction and the debut of a seriously cool-looking new Supergirl suit. Check it out above.

Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara/Supergirl, plus Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, and Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor. Season 4 premieres on The CW on October 14.

In related news, it was reported last week that The CW has greenlit the pilot of a Batwoman show. The Vampire Diaries showrunner Caroline Dries is set to write and executively produce. The character will debut during the network's annual crossover event in December, which will incorporate all the shows in the so-called Arrow-verse.

DC fans also have plenty to look forward to when the streaming service DC Universe launches in the fall. The service will present a variety of new live-action and animated shows, plus classic DC movies and series, and comic books. The first trailers for two of the new shows--the live-action Titans and the animated Young Justice: Outsiders--were also revealed at this year's SDCC.

Comic-Con 2018: DC's The Flash Season 5 Trailer Reveals New Villain

By Dan Auty on Jul 22, 2018 05:53 pm

While it's still not clear exactly when we'll see the big screen Flash movie, the TV version of super-fast Barry Allen is as popular as ever. Season 5 of The CW's DC show The Flash premieres in October and the first trailer was revealed at San Diego-Comic-Con.

Season 4 ended with the surprise appearance of Nora, a girl claiming to be the daughter of Barry and Iris, who has arrived from the future. The trailer shows that the new season picks up immediately afterwards, with Barry attempting to find out why Iris--codename XS--is here, and uncovering some dark secrets along the way. Check it out above.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry, with Candice Patton as Iris and Jessica Parker Kennedy as Nora. It was revealed at The Flash's SDCC panel that the villain will be Cicada, the metahuman-hating villain who first appeared in DC comics in 2001. He'll be played by American Pie's Chris Kline.

At the SDCC panel, Gustin spoke about the changes in store for the characters in Season 5. "I think we're kind of all on different pages," he said, via CBR. "Barry, Iris, and Nora are all in very different headspaces. Nora is pretty clingy to Barry. We don't know why. She's kind of attached to him when she arrives and a little more distant with Iris."

In related news, it was reported last week that The CW has greenlit the pilot of a Batwoman show. The Vampire Diaries showrunner Caroline Dries is set to write and executively produce. The character will debut during the network's annual crossover event in December, which will incorporate all the shows in the so-called Arrow-verse--The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Arrow.

San Diego Comic-Con 2018's Schedule For Sunday: A Guide To The Must-See TV And Movie Panels

By Chris E. Hayner on Jul 22, 2018 05:00 pm

Every year San Diego Comic-Con 2018 brings together fans and nerds from around the world as they celebrate the movies, TV shows, comic books, video games, and more that they love most. This year's convention runs from July 18-22 in San Diego and is packed with panels, appearances, and screenings. There's enough to see and do that it can be pretty intimidating. Luckily, GameSpot is here to help you sort through it all and figure out what you simply must see

Sunday, the final day of Comic-Con, has the least amount of panels. That said, there's still plenty to see for TV fans. First and foremost, Supernatural is making its return to Hall H and, chances are, there is something very special in store. At SDCC in 2017, the CW series brought the band Kansas for a live performance of the song "Carry On Wayward Son," which appears repeatedly throughout the series. Will the show somehow top itself? Other notable panels include Riverdale and FX's Legion, as well as a sneak peek at the upcoming Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans MC.

Make sure you check out in our full list of daily highlights below. Also don't forget to take a look at our schedule of must-see panels for the entire convention, or else you might miss out on something amazing.

Sunday

  • Supernatural (10:30 am - 11:30 am; Hall H)
  • Riverdale (11:45 am - 12:45 pm; Hall H)
  • Mayans MC (1:00 pm - 2:00 pm; Hall H)
  • Legion (2:15 pm - 3:15 pm; Hall H)

Comic-Con 2018 Full Schedule: Supernatural, Riverdale - Guide To The Must-See TV And Movie Panels

By Chris E. Hayner on Jul 22, 2018 04:59 pm

The mothership has landed. We're now into the second day of San Diego Comic-Con 2018, which sees the casts and creators of your favorite TV shows, movies, comic books, and more gather to meet and talk to fans. The annual celebration of all things nerdy runs through July 22 in San Diego, CA, and there's something for just about anyone, spanning genres from horror to sci-fi and beyond. We've already gotten a Titans trailer and DC Universe news, learned about new episodes of beloved animated series The Clone Wars, and gotten an Iron Fist Season 2 release date. Friday should bring more, with the likes of Walking Dead and Sony Pictures panels on tap. But the biggest news of the day will likely involve James Gunn, who was originally scheduled to show up for Sony's panel; that's now doubtful, as Disney has fired him from Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

With a seemingly countless number of events packed into four days, it can be hard to figure out exactly what you want to see at Comic-Con. After all, this will be the first chance many have to watch sneak peeks and new trailers for upcoming movies and TV shows, as well as shows returning in the fall. Luckily for you, though, GameSpot has studied the SDCC schedule closely to pick out the panels you probably won't want to miss.

Some events are an easy choice to attend, especially where movie fans are concerned. Though Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm are both opting not to bring presentations to Comic-Con this year, there is more than enough to experience.

Thursday will see a panel for The Predator that will surely include new footage. Meanwhile, Friday sees Universal Pictures presenting panels for the upcoming Halloween film starring Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as M. Night Shyamalan's Glass--a sequel to both Unbreakable and Split. Saturday kicks things off right with the annual Warner Bros. presentation. That's where you'll likely get new looks at things like Aquaman, Wonder Woman 1984, and maybe even the upcoming Shazam.

TV is no slouch this year either. While HBO will not be bringing Game of Thrones or Westworld to the event, there is no shortage of shows. The CW's entire superhero roster is returning with individual panels. Other shows represented with panels include The Walking Dead, Vikings, Riverdale, Star Trek: Discovery, Preacher, Legion, and so many more returning favorites.

As far as new shows are concerned, SDCC has those covered as well. Castle Rock, the upcoming Hulu series set in the Stephen King universe, has a panel, as well as USA's TV spin-off of The Purge, Syfy's Deadly Class adaptation, and FX's Sons of Anarchy follow-up Mayans MC. There are also reunion panels featuring the casts of Breaking Bad, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Twin Peaks.

You can take a look at the full list of GameSpot's San Diego Comic-Con highlights below; we've also got roundups of what to look for on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you aren't able to make it to San Diego this year, make sure to keep your eyes on GameSpot Universe as we bring you the best moments, trailers, and more from the weekend.

Comic-Con 2018: The Purge TV Show Trailer Sets Up A Night Of Mayhem

By Dan Auty on Jul 22, 2018 04:14 pm

The Purge series is one of the most successful horror franchises of recent years, with more than $399 million earned at the worldwide box office to date. The fourth movie--The First Purge--is currently in theaters and September will see the premiere of the new TV spin-off. It's simply titled The Purge, and a new trailer was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con.

The trailer is a good reminder of exactly what happens during the annual Purge night, where all laws are suspended and citizens are encouraged to act out their most violent and criminal impulses with no consequences. It looks like it'll be the same mix of violent thrills and social satire that has made the films so popular. Check it out above.

The Purge premieres on the USA Network on September 4, 2018, and will run for 10 episodes. It's written by franchise creator James DeMonaco and executively produced Jason Blum, the man behind such other horror hits as Get Out, Insidious, and Paranormal Activity. The cast includes Gabriel Chavarria (War for the Planet of the Apes), Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw), Reed Diamond (Designated Survivor), and Amanda Warren (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri). For more, check out our guide to everything we know so far about The Purge TV show.

The series takes place between the events of the second and third movies, namely The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year. At the SDCC panel, director Anthony Hemmingway and producer Thomas Kelly spoke about the freedom they were given with the series, and if it was necessary to see the movies beforehand.

"It was like having your own art project. Anything was possible. We were able to tap into a lot of things in today's social climate and paint them on this big canvas," Hemmingway said. Kelly added: "The good thing with the series is that you don't have to see any of the movies to get into this TV show, but if you are a fan of the movies, we paid you respect and have easter eggs popping in the episodes."

Comic-Con 2018: DC Comics Takes A Dark Turn With DC Black Label

By Jordan Ramée on Jul 22, 2018 06:55 am

At San Diego Comic-Con, DC Entertainment announced a new publishing imprint called DC Black Label. The label will only mark certain stories, each created by DC Comics' most prominent writers and artists. They'll bring edgy and provocative standalone stories to the legends of DC's greatest heroes and villains. For starters, the label is focusing on stories centered around Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

"Creating DC Black Label doubles down on our commitment to working with all-star talent and trusting them to tell epic, moving stories that only they can tell with the highest levels of creative freedom," said publisher Jim Lee. And freedom those writers and artists will have. Series that run under the DC Black Label won't be restricted to a specific format, release schedule, or canon.

When it comes to DC Black Label, creative vision is most important. Writers will be free to write stories that contradict The New 52 or Rebirth, and artists can reimagine heroes and villains with designs that have never been seen before. DC Entertainment has six books planned for the first wave of DC Black Label titles: Superman: Year One, Batman: Last Knight on Earth, Batman: Damned, Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons, Wonder Woman: Diana's Daughter, and The Other History of the DC Universe.

Frank Miller and John Romita Jr. are on Superman: Year One, which promises to be a groundbreaking reimagining of Superman's classic origin story. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo are behind Batman: Last Knight, a story that begins with Batman waking up in the desert next to The Joker's head still alive in a jar. Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo are tackling Batman: Damned, a story where Batman and Constantine team up to chase down a horrific serial killer who might have managed to murder The Joker.

Kelly Sue DeConnick and Phil Jimenez are telling a Homeric epic of the lost history of the Amazons in Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons. Not much is known yet about Wonder Woman: Diana's Daughter (in fact, that's a working title), but Greg Rucka will be using the comic to tell the story of a young woman who defies the odds of her hopeless world. John Ridley is writing a literary series that analyzes iconic DC moments in The Other History of the DC Universe.

The full summary of each of these books can be found on DC Comics' blog.

Netflix's Disenchantment: What We Learned About Matt Groening's New Show At Comic-Con 2018

By Michael Rougeau on Jul 22, 2018 06:37 am

Prior to San Diego Comic-Con 2018, all we knew about Netflix and Matt Groening's new show, Disenchantment, was what we saw in a brief teaser trailer: It's a fantasy show, made by Groening (the creator of The Simpsons and Futurama), and it stars an irreverent, relatable princess played by Broad City's Abbi Jacobson. During group interviews at the convention, we learned a whole lot more; you can also see a new trailer below.

Groening, who's been embroiled in controversy lately, was totally focused on promoting Disenchantment during Comic-Con. Alongside longtime collaborator Josh Weinstein--who also worked on both The Simpsons and Futurama--he described his influences for the show, which go back to his childhood dreams of an "enchanted forest."

He didn't want to make a straight fantasy show, though, and he and Weinstein hope to subvert the genre's many tropes--both old and new. "The princess is a perfect example," said Weinstein. "It used to be like the Disney princess, but also, I think a lot of writers make the mistake too of going the other way--it's like, 'She's totally kick-ass and she's perfect.' So we wanted to bust that trope and actually make, what if the princess were just like, a realistic 19-year-old young woman?"

"The tendency in a lot of epic fantasies and science fiction is 'good vs. evil,' and we tried to shade it a little bit," Groening added. "[King Zog, played by Bender and Jake the Dog actor John DiMaggio] here starts out pretty villainous, but then you find out he has his reasons, and he's not all bad. And same thing with [Princess] Bean, who's the star of the show, and who it's all about. She's not perfect by any means--she makes some bad mistakes and she has a lot of flaws, but you like her anyway."

Monty Python and the Holy Grail proved to be a big influence, unsurprisingly, given the setting. But Disenchantment's home on Netflix allowed Groening and Weinstein more freedom than they're used to. Netflix has become known as a place where creators can fulfill their visions without studio meddling--for better or worse. One way they're experimenting is with length and pacing--the show's first episode is around 35 minutes long, and later episodes vary in length, which isn't possible on network television.

Disenchantment also has more adult content than The Simpsons and Futurama, but they didn't want to be gratuitous.

No Caption Provided

"If there's nudity, it's going to be King Zog"--i.e. a character most people wouldn't want to see naked, Weinstein said. "If there's violence, it has to be funny or clever so it's not gratuitous."

"We do have a lot of severed limbs and decapitations in this show," Groening added.

Dropping all the episodes at once has advantages, too. "This was a different kind of storytelling than we've ever done, in that you don't have to wrap things up at the end of the episode," Groening said. "And so we have a lot of fun with cliffhangers--a literal cliffhanger at the end of Episode 1."

"Some of the best jokes come from when you don't have to push the story forward so much," he continued. "On The Simpsons and Futurama and other cartoon shows like that, you're so pushing the story forward that you don't have time for some of the best jokes, which are free-standing."

Groening and Weinstein said they designed the show first as if it was a drama, getting the story beats in place before subverting things to add the humor. Weinstein brought up a "rule" that he said Groening has had "from the very beginning of The Simpsons": that characters have to react emotionally to the story in realistic ways.

"We especially thought that in a fantasy, and in an epic tale, and with a character like Bean, if those emotions, and her relationship with her dad, if those aren't real, you'll just disconnect, and it would just be like, a stupid parody show," Weinstein said.

No Caption Provided

In addition to Jacobson and DiMaggio, Disenchantment's voice actors include Eric Andre, Noel Fielding, and many other talented comedians and actors. The music is atypical for a fantasy show, created by Mark Mothersbaugh, an accomplished film composer and frontman of the band Devo. And the show will be chock full of secrets, according to Groening, from the very first scene.

"The very first thing you see is a giant clue," he teased. "The first animation you see reveals a giant clue, and it's staring you right in the face. And I'm being very legalese here, and my wording is very precise, so it will pay off later."

Most of all, he said, they want to create a show that elicits a wide range of emotions--not unlike The Simpsons and Futurama before it. "We hope we choke people up and break some hearts and maybe cause a tear here and there," Groening said. "But that's after we make you laugh."

Disenchantment arrives on Netflix August 17.

SDCC 2018: Vikings Season 5B Trailer Shows A Bloody War Between Ivar And Lagertha

By Chris E. Hayner on Jul 22, 2018 06:07 am

After being driven from Kattegat in the Vikings midseason finale, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig), Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), and Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) are ready to fight back against Ivar the Boneless (Alex Andersen). As they do every year, the cast and creator of Vikings marched into San Diego Comic-Con armed with a special treat for fans attending their panel: A trailer.

In the two-and-a-half minute clip, which you can see above, Kattegat is a very different place than it was when fans last saw it. Under Ivar's rule, nobody looks particularly happy. But with a leader as ruthless as Ivar, can you blame them?

Least happy of all is the one brother that didn't turn his back in Ivar, Hvitserk (Marco Ilso). In the trailer, he makes it clear he doesn't trust his brother and, by the end of the clip, has switched allegiances to fight at Bjorn's side. What this means for the impending war remains to be seen, especially with the return of Rollo (Clive Standen), who admits he missed the small town that's now become a thriving kingdom.

"I think it's fair to say every time [creator] Michael [Hirst] writes for Rollo, he's not going to do whatever you think he's going to do," Standen said during the panel, when asked about Rollo's motives in returning. "He's now a ruler of his own country in Normandy and he has his own people to think of and to put first." However, Standen played coy when it comes to saying whether he's truly sided with Rollo.

Don't go expecting the return of the berserker, though. According to Standen, this Rollo isn't the same man from earlier seasons. "He's older now. Your body doesn't quite work as you want it to work," he teased. "He's at that age where you start thinking about death and your own mortality and where you go afterward." However, the actor does say there's some unfinished family business for him to tackle.

One thing is clear, when it comes to most of the cast: Their allegiances set them at odds with Ivar, even if there is a lot of family drama between everyone. The strange relationship between Torvi (Georgia Hirst), Bjorn, and Ubbe is especially problematic. After Bjorn left Torvi in Season 5, she found love with his brother Ubbe. As Hirst tells it, though, this is how it was meant to be. "I never think he was satisfied, so I think Torvi felt a sense that she was never enough," she explained. "I think he just came at the right time and I think they have found genuine love."

Additionally, as you can see in the trailer, Lagertha's grey hair isn't going anywhere. Recounting the midseason finale, Winnick said, "The very last shot of Lagertha, she is completely in shellshock--so much that her hair actually turned grey." That look is sticking around and she continues her quest to kill Ivar--something the new king of Kattegat isn't pleased about.

While he took control of Kattegat, in some ways he considers his victory a failure. "He's in a bad place and he didn't even get to kill Lagertha," Andersen said. "He's mad." Of course, that's not necessarily the kind of person the people of Kattegat will want in charge. "Let's make a guy who can't control himself control an entire city," the actor joked.

There's still a while before Vikings returns, sadly. Thankfully, a midseason premiere date was also announced at Comic-Con. You'll get the remainder of Season 5 starting on November 28 at 9 PM ET on History. Thankfully, this won't be the end of the road for the series as Season 6 has been in production for some time.

SDCC 2018: M. Night's Glass Trailer Shows Real-World Superheroes

By Chris E. Hayner on Jul 22, 2018 06:06 am

Are superheroes real or just a delusion? That's the question posed in the first trailer for Glass, the follow-up to M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable and Split. The film bridges the two movies, bringing their casts together for what looks to be perhaps the most unique superhero--or villain--tale ever seen on the big screen. The cast and Shyamalan brought the clip to San Diego Comic-Con and were careful not to share too much about the movie, which releases in 2019.

"There are a lot of secrets in this movie that have not been exposed," Bruce Willis said. Still, the trailer gave quite a bit away. Based on the clip, which you can see above, Glass is largely set in a psychiatric hospital, where Kenneth Wendell Crumb (James McAvoy), Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson), and David Dunn (Bruce Willis) are all being treated by Dr. Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson). She's a specialist that deals with people who think they are superheroes.

What she is going to have to come to terms with, though, is that perhaps these three men do have some abilities. "This is not a cartoon," Price says in the trailer. "This is the real world. And yet some of us still don't die with bullets. Some of us can still bend steel. I've been waiting for the world to see that we exist."

Given the seemingly evil nature of Crumb's alter ego the Beast, the world may finally find out what happens when a couple of real-life superheroes are forced to spring into action to stop him.

Glass hits theaters on January 18, 2019.

Comic-Con 2018 - Why Alita: Battle Angel's Eyes Are So Big, Trailer Coming Soon

By Mat Elfring on Jul 22, 2018 06:04 am

Taking a beloved manga property and translating it to an western audience for the big screen can be quite the task. This is what 20th Century Fox is trying to accomplish with its December 21 film Alita: Battle Angel. During San Diego Comic Con, director Robert Rodriguez and producer Jon Landau showed off almost 20 minutes of the film at a panel. Additionally, attendees got an early look at the trailer, which will be released worldwide on Monday, July 23 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET.

Before the event began, Landau and Rodriguez discussed how the manga, called Gunnm in Japan, got the Hollywood treatment by James Cameron and why it took so long to develop this movie. Cameron switched focus, years ago, to Avatar, which Landau explained was good in the long run for Alita as technology, 3D effects, and filming have become advanced enough to properly realize the story for the big screen.

No Caption Provided

While a lot of the controversy surrounding Alita deals with the titular character's look, more specifically how large her eyes are compared to other cyborgs in the film, Robert Rodriguez explained a bit more why she looks like that. James Cameron's vision, since he obtained the rights to the property, was to bring manga to life. Rodriguez explained that he wanted the look of what's on the page to be realized in a three dimensional form and look as real as possible. He wanted to stay true to the source material. While other cyborgs didn't have-the large eyes, pointed chin, and anime/manga aesthetic in the footage we saw, it fit Alita. It may have takena few minutes to get used to, but it felt comfortable as the scenes went on.

As with Avatar, Alita is also in 3D. There were a couple moments in the scenes shown where shots were set up purely for the "it's coming right at you" effect for the audience. Additionally, there were some action sequences which also incorporated the 3D elements. While we can't get into finer details of the plot or what these scenes actually contained, attendees did get a pretty good picture of what the entirety of the movie is about. The footage showed a balance of story and action from what seemed to be pivotal moments from the movie. However, we can say that Weta's visual FX look outstanding, especially for a movie that still four months out from release. Even when some things looked a little rough--like faces on a couple cyborgs--it still looked cleaner than most of the CG in this year's summer blockbusters. More than anything else, this movie will be a showcase for what CG should look like.

Hollywood has tried to do live-action versions of Japanese anime and manga, like Fist of the North Star, Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note, and Ghost in the Shell to name a few, but it has yet to capture the essence of the stories and characters. Because of the team behind the movie, including James Cameron, who has been a driving force behind getting this made, Alita: Battle Angel shows a lot more promise in the manga-to-feature genre than any of its predecessors.

Comic-Con 2018: New Bumblebee Video Shows Classic Designs And Optimus Prime

By Chris E. Hayner on Jul 22, 2018 06:04 am

If you're expecting the upcoming Bumblebee to look and feel like another chapter in Michael Bay's long-running Transformers series, you're in for a bit of a shock. The cast and director came to San Diego Comic-Con to show off new pieces of their film and made it clear it's far more inspired by the 1980s cartoon than the previous live-action films.

That was evident from the beginning when Stan Bush took the Hall H stage with an electric guitar for a live performance of "The Touch" from 1986's The Transformers: The Movie. From there, director Travis Knight let fans know that the designs for the Transformers are taken from the first generations of the characters, rather than what's been seen in the other movies.

While Bumblebee transforms into a Volkswagen Beetle, the movie's villains--Nightbird and Dropkick--are triple changers. They can become not only muscle cars but flying vehicles. Additionally, director Travis Knight had some bad news for the audience regarding the other Decepticon seen in the movie's first trailer. That jet isn't Starscream, folks. Instead, it's Blitzwing, a G1 Transformers character that first appeared in 1985.

So why use Blitzwing instead of Starscream? "All will be revealed when you see the film," Knight teased.

An extended look at the movies was also shown, giving fans a very detailed look at the characters and some of the story on display in Bumblebee. The first half of the footage saw Bee on the run from the military--led by John Cena's Agent Burns--as they tried to gun him down. That's when Blitzwing arrives on the scene, attempting to kill the yellow Autobot himself. In the end, Blitz throws Bee off a cliff, seemingly to his death.

Instead, though, the extremely damaged bot turned into a beat-up up Volkswagen Beetle, which is found sometime later by Hailee Steinfeld's character Charlie Watson. "We meet Charlie as your sort of misunderstood typical teenager," Steinfeld said of her character. "She's trying to find that freedom that she craves." She's also coping with a major loss in her life, which leads her to seeing Bumblebee as a possible escape. Of course, this is still a Transformers movie and the two--along with Charlie's friend Memo (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.)--are now simply trying to survive as both humans and robots chase them down.

What was especially interesting about the footage was how it differs from the action scenes seen in Michael Bay's previous Transformers entries. With far fewer actual Transformers on-screen, it is able to skirt becoming so busy that it's hard to figure out what's going on. Simplifying the story and the character roster allows room for the action to breathe and, as a result, feel more impactful.

Just as impactful was a quick shot of a very familiar hologram. While it hasn't been confirmed whether Optimus Prime will appear in the film, an image of Prime with a design much closer to his G1 look is shown, leaving fans wondering if it's possible. As an added surprise, longtime Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen appeared at the panel to ask when Optimus will get his own movie. What this means for Prime's role in Bumblebee remains to be seen, but it's entirely possible he'll appear at some point.

Perhaps it won't be on Earth, though. After a little prodding, Knight dropped one more bomb. This movie will visit Cybertron, the home planet of the Transformers. "We see Cybertron and let me say it is awesome," he teased.

Bumblebee arrives in theaters on December 21.

SDCC 2018: New Halloween Clip Shows Michael Myers' Random Brutality

By Chris E. Hayner on Jul 22, 2018 06:04 am

With Halloween heading back to theaters and changing the canon for the long-running horror series, it's time to clear some things up. Jamie Lee Curtis, along with the new Halloween's director and producers, came to San Diego Comic-Con armed with footage and some hints about what the past 40 years have been like for Laurie Strode since the horrible events of that Halloween night.

"Laurie Strode was 17 years old when she was brutally attacked by Michael Myers, a random act of violence," Curtis told the audience. "She has carried the trauma and PTSD of someone who was attacked randomly."

That statement alone changes so much of what fans have come to know about Michael Myers and his murderous ways in the movies that followed the first Halloween. As previously revealed, the twist that he's actually Laurie's brother is gone. Instead, there was no real reason he stalked and tried to kill Laurie in that film, other than that he's just a psychotic killer. Now, though, it's been 40 years and she's been training for his eventual return. She's ready to take back her life from the man that carelessly tried to end it.

"What we're honoring today, there comes a point where you say, 'I am not my trauma. The narrative of my life is I am not the victim,'" the actress explained. "This is a woman that's been waiting 40 years."

Before she can face that trauma head-on, though, an escaped Myers is going to do what he's best at, and that's killing as many people as he possibly can. Keeping with the idea that he kills randomly, the Comic-Con audience was treated to an extended clip from the film, which shows Myers stalking the streets once again on Halloween night.

In the short look at the film, which has not been released online, the masked maniac slips into one house and murders a woman in her kitchen with a hammer. He then takes the knife she was using to carve a ham and continues on his quest, passing by trick or treaters on the way. Upon finding his next victim, Myers slips into her house unnoticed and jams the knife into the back of her neck.

This is the first truly gory shot fans have seen of the film and it's clear Blumhouse is pulling no punches when it comes to the brutality on display from Myers--and likely Laurie, as she confronts her life's tormentor.

Halloween is in theaters on October 19.

Comic-Con 2018: Arrow Season 7 Trailer, Oliver Is Living The American Nightmare

By Mat Elfring on Jul 22, 2018 05:43 am

CW's Arrow is returning for a seventh season this fall, and at San Diego Comic-Con, fans got a sneak peek at what's happening to Oliver Queen this year. During the Arrow panel, lots of information was revealed about returning characters, new villains, and and how Ollie's world is being turned upside down.

In the new video, which you can see above, Oliver Queen is doing some time in Slabside Maximum Security Prison but old foes are resurfacing. Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White), Derek Sampson (Cody Runnels), and Danny Brickwell (Vinnie Jones) are making Queen's stint in the clink tougher than it needs to be. These are all villains Arrow put in prison, and of course, they're going to try and get revenge in any way possible. "One scene in the premiere, what Oliver does is reprehensible," star Stephen Amell explained during the panel. He went on to say he hopes fans hate what he does.

Additionally, a group of villains whose main purpose is to take down Arrow emerges in this season. They're called The Longbow Hunters, and the team is made up of Red Dart (Holly Elissa), Kodiak (Michael Jonsson) and Silencer (Miranda Edwards). This team is recruited by Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo), who wants revenge after Arrow took him down in Season 6. Terror is coming from all sides for Arrow and his companions this year.

This season will have a new shorunner, Beth Schwartz, who previously wrote episodes of Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. Colton Haynes, who plays Roy Harper on the series, said that Schwartz is putting the best spin on the show since the series began.

We'll find out if Oliver survives prison when Arrow returns to CW for Season 7 on October 15.

Comic-Con 2018: Netflix's The Dragon Prince Anime Gets A New Teaser Trailer

By Jordan Ramée on Jul 22, 2018 05:41 am

The new trailer for Netflix's upcoming anime, The Dragon Prince, debuted at San Diego Comic-Con. The trailer teases the overall plot of the show, and introduces the three main characters of the animated series.

The Dragon Prince tells the story of two human princes, Callum and his brother Ezran. The new trailer hints at a simmering conflict between their people and the elves which erupts into something larger at the start of the series. This convinces the elves to send an assassin, named Rayla, to kill the two princes. Instead, the three decide to ally with one another and embark on a quest to find a way to unite their people and bring peace to the land.

The majority of the attention that The Dragon Prince is getting can probably be traced back to the reputation of the man behind the anime's story: Aaron Ehasz. Ehasz is responsible for writing the widely popular Avatar: The Last Airbender and fans are excited to see him helm another mystical fantasy series. Another The Last Airbender veteran, Giancarlo Volpe, a former director for Avatar, is The Dragon Prince's executive producer.

The Dragon Prince will be available on Netflix on September 14. It's not the only anime that is coming to Netflix this year either. We'll be getting a second season of Castlevania this October.

At Anime Expo, Netflix announced that the streaming service will premier Ultraman and Kengan Ashura in 2019. Ultraman is based on the classic Japanese sci-fi series about a seemingly ordinary man who possesses the spirit and DNA of a legendary hero. Kengan Ashura is about a 56-year-old man fights as a gladiator on behalf of his company.

Comic-Con 2018: Legacies --The New Vampire Diaries Spinoff Gets Trailer

By Veronica Larkin on Jul 22, 2018 05:17 am

If The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, or the whole franchise is your guilty pleasure, you'll be excited to know that the CW is launching yet another spinoff based on the events of both shows called Legacies. The trailer recently premiered at Comic-Con.

If you recall, The Originals started off because Klaus, one of the original vampires who was a vampire/werewolf hybrid, got a girl pregnant. This meant that the kid would be born a vampire, a werewolf, and the grandchild of one of the most powerful witches who ever lived.

Now, that child is a teenager, and she has little control over her many powers, so she is heading off to the Salvatore academy (as in the Salvatore brothers from The Vampire Diaries), which helps supernatural teens get their powers, and their urges, under control. The academy is lead by Alaric Saltzman, a teacher who was a recurring character on The Vampire Diaries and managed to stay human.

The trailer gives a pretty good look at the story the show will follow. The characters get involved with the locals and use their abilities, not always in a good way. The trailer also features the same voice-over style that was used for the other two shows, which is a nice way to give it a sense of continuity. Legacies will premiere October 25 on the CW.

Comic-Con 2018: Aquaman Trailer Arrives With Exclusive Footage Showing Classic Costume

By Michael Rougeau on Jul 22, 2018 04:57 am

After witnessing his debut in last year's Justice League, Aquaman fans have eagerly awaited a real look at the aquatic king's full feature-length debut. During a panel in San Diego Comic-Con's massive Hall H Saturday morning, Warner Bros. finally delivered, debuting a brand-new trailer for those lucky enough to be in attendance.

The long-awaited trailer opens on a stormy sea, with Jason Momoa's voiceover describing his mother (an Atlantean) and father (a lighthouse keeper) meeting. A young Arthur Curry is bullied in an aquarium, and reveals that he can communicate with fish. The adult Aquaman then drops into a submarine and starts kicking butts.

Amber Heard's character Mera describes the story--Aquaman has to take his place as king of Atlantis to stop an impending war. The trailer gives extensive looks at Atlantis and the various characters. "You think you're unworthy to lead because you're of two different worlds," Mera tells Aquaman. "That is exactly why you are worthy."

The trailer is now available online, so check it out below. However, that wasn't the only Aquaman footage Warner Bros. debuted at Comic-Con. They also showed some exclusive clips only for Hall H attendees.

The exclusive footage featured Mera and Aquaman walking through the desert searching for Atlantean ruins that were once underwater. Mera extracts water from Aquaman's brow to activate a relic in a scene that's part Indiana Jones, part Fifth Element. "You could have just peed on it," Aquaman says.

A hologram of a past Atlantean king appears. "In this trident resides the power of Atlantis," it says. "If you seek my power, journey beyond the edge of the world to the hidden sea. In the wrong hands, it would bring destruction. In the hands of the true heir, it would unite all our kingdoms, above and below."

The clip also showed Atlanteans on opposing sides riding giant seahorses, sharks, and other creatures in battle. Finally, it showed Black Manta emerging from the sea to fight Arthur and Mera on land across chase and battle scenes involving laser fire and huge explosions. Patrick Wilson and Nicole Kidman's characters made appearances as well, and we caught a glimpse of Willem Dafoe.

Finally, the last shot showed Aquaman in a semblance of his classic costume, orange and green scales included. Naturally, fans reacted with glee and excitement.

The Aquaman portion of the panel opened with the massive screens spanning Hall H turning to roaring water, the sound filling the huge room. Aquaman himself--actor Jason Momoa--emerged onto the stage to thunderous applause. Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and director James Wan joined him onstage soon after.

"I want our film to be a little bit different, a little unique" among the myriad superhero movies out now, Wan said. He said it plays more like a sci-fi or fantasy film than a traditional superhero movie. Momoa called it "a beautiful origin story."

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who plays Black Manta, said he was worried about having to swim while shooting the movie. "I can't swim," he described telling his agent. He confessed that he bought a pair of goggles and a kickboard, and taught himself to swim while filming. "I was fine by the end, and I didn't ever have to swim [while filming]," he said.

Nicole Kidman described the moment we'll meet her character in Aquaman. "I got to lie on a rock," she said. "My opening shot in the film is being washed up on this rock, and I got to lie there with massive waves crashing over me, and i'm thinking, 'The bigger the better, come on James, give it to me! That's why I'm doing this movie.'"

Comic-Con 2018: Shazam Trailer Debuts At SDCC Panel

By Michael Rougeau on Jul 22, 2018 04:52 am

Following the exciting Wonder Woman 2 portion of Warner Bros.' massive Hall H panel at Comic-Con 2018, moderator Aisha Tyler invited Zachary Levi onstage to finally debut the upcoming Shazam. Naturally, they showed the movie's eagerly awaited first trailer.

The trailer showed Billy Batson, the young boy who will become Shazam, struggling in the foster system. He goes home with a new family and meets his foster brother. The tone is funny, as expected.

After a confrontation with some bullies, he flees to the subway, but winds up in a cave, where he meets a mysterious, bearded, lightning bolt-adorned Shazam. He utters his name, and stands up as Zachary Levi. Naturally, the first thing he does is show off for his foster brother. The two proceed to test out his new powers, testing whether he can fly. He also walks around at a mall zapping people's phones to charge them, but accidentally blows one up. In a convenience store robbery, he gets shot and learns that--thankfully--he's immune to bullets.

The trailer hit the internet shortly after its premiere, so check it out below.

Just before the trailer debuted, Levi took the stage to introduce it, holding a beer. "Jason Momoa gave me this Guiness. I'm having a great day," Levi joked. He said playing Shazam is "complete wish fulfillment" for him. "And the whole movie's about wish fulfillment," he said.

Later in the panel, Levi described one of the challenges of playing a character who's a child in an adult's body. "When he says 'Shazam' and turns into me, I'm still him, just me. Glad we went through that. But I still have to play it like this knucklehead," Levi said, gesturing at Asher Angel, the actor who plays young Billy, who was sitting next to him. "It's difficult. The way he poses sometimes is so Asher Angel."

Guardians Of The Galaxy Star Dave Bautista "Not OK" With James Gunn's Firing

By Dan Auty on Jul 22, 2018 04:50 am

Last night it was reported that writer/director James Gunn has been fired from the upcoming Marvel sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 by Disney, following the resurfacing of tweets he made several years ago. Now his Guardians star Dave Bautista has weighed in on the subject.

Bautista, who plays Drax in the Guardians movies, took to Twitter to comment that he was not happy with the decision to remove Gunn as writer and director of Vol.3. The actor stated that he would have more to say on the subject at a later date, but defended Gunn as "one of the most loving, caring, good natured people I have ever met." Read his full tweet below:

The tweets that led to Gunn's dismissal date back almost a decade, and saw the director joking about topics like pedophilia and rape. They resurfaced online via conservative website The Daily Caller, and Disney were quick to sever ties with him. In a statement, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said, "The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James' Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio's values, and we have severed our business relationship with him."

Gunn offered a subsequent statement in which he took responsibility for the tweets and accepted Disney's decision. "My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative," his statement read. "I have regretted them for many years since--not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don't reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.

"Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse."

The news emerged in the midst of San Diego Comic-Con 2018, where Marvel was not expected to have any major announcements. Gunn himself was set to appear at SDCC on Friday during the Sony Pictures panel to promote a new project, but Sony subsequently pulled this announcement from its schedule.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had been set for release in 2020, though Gunn's removal could affect that. The events of Avengers: Infinity War stand to have a potential impact on the film, though Avengers 4--due out next year--could always make further changes. Without saying how, Gunn had previously teased that Guardians 3 would be "very different."

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Being Rebooted, Joss Whedon Is Involved

By Veronica Larkin on Jul 22, 2018 04:50 am

Buckle up, fans of Joss Whedon and badass teenage vampire killers, Buffy The Vampire Slayer is getting a reboot. THR reports that 20th Century Fox television has had a reboot in mind for a while now, but talks about actually putting one in motion began in the fall of 2017. Now that the studio has hired a writer for the show, things are really starting up.

Whedon has expressed apprehension about making a Buffy reboot in the past, saying, "Luckily most of my actors still look wonderful, but I'm not worried about them being creaky. I'm more worried about me being creaky as a storyteller. You don't want that feeling that you should have left before the encore." But with a new writer hired and the show on the way, he appears to have gotten over his earlier qualms.

Whedon will be executive producing this time around, and Monica Owusu-Breen, who worked with Whedon on Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, has been hired to write and produce the series, as well as serve as its showrunner. She is credited as the writer and showrunner for a slew of other titles including Midnight, Texas. No official script has been ordered, and the show has yet to find a director or an actor to play Buffy, so things are still in early stages.

The tone of the show was vaguely described by producers who said, "like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today." The producers reportedly intend on hiring an African American actor to play Buffy.

The show will be pitched to cable and streaming networks alike, as it has yet to find a network, but it should have no trouble finding interested parties since Buffy The Vampire Slayer was one of the most beloved and popular shows of its day.

Guardians Of The Galaxy 3's James Gunn Fired After Old Tweets Surface

By Chris Pereira on Jul 22, 2018 04:47 am

The tale of the misfits that comprise the Guardians of the Galaxy will see their trilogy concluded with someone other than James Gunn in the director's chair. Gunn, who served as the writer and director for the first two Guardians movies, has been fired by Disney. The news confirmed the news in the midst of San Diego Comic-Con 2018, where Marvel was not expected to have any major news. [Update: Guardians star Dave Bautista has come out in support of Gunn.]

This move comes after old tweets of Gunn's surfaced online. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the controversial messages--which date back almost a decade--see the director joking about topics like pedophilia and rape.

Disney issues a statement confirming that it was parting ways with Gunn. Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said, "The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James' Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio's values, and we have severed our business relationship with him."

Gunn's tweets were resurfaced online by conservative website The Daily Caller. Gunn has since published a series of tweets on his Twitter account in which he does not deny authoring the messages. Instead, he attempts to apologize and explain the messages.

"Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I've developed as a person, so has my work and my humor. It's not to say I'm better, but I am very, very different than I was a few years ago; today I try to root my work in love and connection and less in anger. My days saying something just because it's shocking and trying to get a reaction are over.

"In the past, I have apologized for humor of mine that hurt people. I truly felt sorry and meant every word of my apologies. For the record, when I made these shocking jokes, I wasn't living them out. I know this is a weird statement to make, and seems obvious, but, still, here I am, saying it. Anyway, that's the completely honest truth: I used to make a lot of offensive jokes. I don't anymore. I don't blame my past self for this, but I like myself more and feel like a more full human being and creator today. Love you to you all."

Gunn had teased that a new, non-Guardians project of his would be revealed at SDCC on Friday during the Sony Pictures panel. According to Variety, he's no longer expected to make an appearance at the panel, which is no shock--it would be a real surprise for him to show up with this news having only just broken. Whether he moves ahead with whatever that project is (possibly the horror movie we heard about previously) remains to be seen. We'll report back if Sony acknowledges the news or Gunn's project during its panel.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 had been set for release in 2020, though Gunn's removal could affect that. The events of Avengers: Infinity War stand to have a potential impact on the film, though Avengers 4--due out next year--could always make further changes. Without saying how, Gunn had previously teased that Guardians 3 would be "very different."

Aside from his contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Gunn is also known for writing and directing the movie Super.

If you happen to be attending SDCC you can get your hands on these tchotchkes, but it's not as simple as just walking up to the Funko booth and walking away with an armful of nostalgia. Oh no. You have to follow some guidelines, like using an Exclusives Portal to book a time to visit the booth and purchase your wares. Then you can place them in your vault as your retirement savings and never ever open them because you're not a monster.

Fortnite Challenge Guide For Season 5: Score Basket Hoops, Search Between Oasis, And More

By Kevin Knezevic on Jul 22, 2018 04:45 am

Season 5 of Fortnite: Battle Royale has kicked off on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and iOS. As before, the new season brings with it an assortment of new challenges to complete, as well as a variety of Battle Pass rewards to unlock. This time, however, Epic has made a few notable changes to the way certain Battle Pass challenges operate. Here's everything you need to know about the new Season 5 challenges and details on all of the ones available so far.

Once again, players who purchase the Season 5 Battle Pass will get a set of objectives to complete every week, which in turn will go toward leveling the Battle Pass up and unlocking new rewards. Unlike past seasons, however, weekly challenges are now divided into two categories, Free (which are available to all Fortnite players) and Battle Pass (which are reserved for those who've purchased the Pass). That means that even if you haven't bought the Battle Pass, you'll still be able to complete certain objectives and earn rewards.

If you do decide to pick up the Battle Pass partway through the season, you'll be also able to retroactively unlock any premium rewards you've earned based on the tier that you've already reached. However, one of the advantages of purchasing the Battle Pass early is bonus XP, which is awarded for playing in general and for playing in a party with friends. Since leveling up with XP translates into Battle Stars, you'll want to grab the Battle Pass as soon as you can and take advantage of these bonuses.

Drift challenges, on the other hand, task you with gaining a certain amount of XP. There are five Drift challenges to complete in total in Season 5, each of which reward you with a new style option for the Drift skin. If you manage to complete four out of the five Drift challenges, you'll also unlock the Rift Edge, an alternative for the pickaxe.

You'll find a complete list of all Season 5 challenges available so far below, along with links to our maps and guides that will help you complete them all. You can see all of the new skins, cosmetics, emotes, sprays, and other items to unlock this season in our gallery of Fortnite Season 5 Battle Pass rewards.

Fortnite Challenge Guide Season 5: Where Basketball Hoops Are Located (Season 5, Week 2 Challenges)

By Kevin Knezevic on Jul 22, 2018 04:43 am

Season 5 of Fortnite: Battle Royale rolls on, and the latest batch of challenges is now available to complete for Battle Pass owners on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and iOS. As usual, Week 2's challenges consist of seven different objectives, which run the gamut from eliminating a certain number of players to searching a specific area of the island. One of the potentially trickier tasks is to score a basket on five different hoops; here's where to find the basketball courts with those baskets and how to complete the challenge.

To complete this challenge, you will first need to have unlocked the basketball--one of the new toy items introduced in Season 5. The basketball is earned upon reaching tier 11 of the Season 5 Battle Pass. Fortunately, this can be accomplished fairly quickly, so if you own the Battle Pass and have been playing regularly, there's a good chance you already have the basketball. Once unlocked, you use the toy in the same way you would use an emote by assigning it to an emote slot before a match and pressing the corresponding key or button.

Provided you know where to look, completing this challenge is simply a matter of finding a basketball hoop, then using the basketball toy to sink a shot. There are at least nine hoops scattered across the island, and the challenge doesn't need to be completed within a single match, so the easiest way to reach your goal would be to land near one of the courts at the start of a game and sink a quick shot before having to deal with other players. You can see the location of each hoop below.

  • northeastern side of Greasy Grove
  • northwestern side of Tilted Towers
  • near the second-northernmost house in Snobby Shores
  • near the indoor soccer field in the unnamed area east of Snobby Shores
  • eastern side of Junk Junction
  • near a house on top of the mountain south of Salty Springs
  • southern side of Retail Row
  • in the picnic area just east of Retail Row
  • northeastern side of Paradise Palms

Be aware that you'll need to score a basket at five different locations to complete this challenge; only the first one you sink at a court will count toward your total, so you won't be able to take a shortcut by throwing the basketball into both hoops on the same court. Once you've scored five baskets, you'll be rewarded with five Battle Stars.

The other challenge that may trip you up this week is to search between an oasis, rock archway, and dinosaurs. The remaining tasks are all fairly straightforward, and they include searching chests in Loot Lake, dealing damage to opponents with Assault Rifles, and searching seven Ammo Boxes in a single match. You can see the full list of Week 2 Challenges below.

Completing challenges will rank up your Battle Pass, which in turn will unlock new skins, emotes, back blings, contrails, toys, and an assortment of other rewards during Season 5. You can see everything you can earn in our gallery of all the new Fortnite Season 5 Battle Pass rewards. Fortnite Challenge Guide For Season 5: Where To Search Between An Oasis, Rock Archway, And Dinosaurs (Week 2)

By Tamoor Hussain on Jul 22, 2018 04:39 am

We're into the second week of Fortnite Season 5, which means there's a fresh set of challenges to take on. If you're new to the game, this means that you can score some extra XP and Battle Stars for successfully completing specific objectives in-game. For the latest season, challenges are separated into two sections for Free and Battle Pass.

This week the free challenges, which anyone can do, involve dealing damage with assault rifles, searching seven ammo boxes in one match, and killing three enemy players in Paradise Palms.

The challenges for Battle Pass owners, meanwhile, are to score a basket on five different hoops on the island, search seven chests in Loot Lake, search between an oasis, rock archway, and dinosaurs, and kill two enemies with a sniper rifle.

All of these challenges should be relatively straightforward since they require either shooting enemies or scouring the game world for Ammo Boxes or Chests. The trickier of the bunch is the search between an oasis, rock archway, and dinosaur, but we've grabbed some images to show you exactly where to look. Alternatively, simply watch the video above for a step-by-step walkthrough.

You can also see the full breakdown of Fortnite Season 5 Week 2's challenges below.

Comic-Con 2018: Live-Action Kim Possible Adaptation Releases Surprise Image

By Veronica Larkin on Jul 22, 2018 04:11 am

If you were a kid in the early 2000s, you probably saw the red-headed teenager sporting a beeper and going from cheerleading to fighting crime in a matter of minutes. The show went off the air in 2007, but now, Kim Possible is getting a live-action movie, and the film made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con.

Disney Channel's presentation focused on the upcoming television adaptation of Big Hero 6, Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley are producing the show. However, they also the created Kim Possible and they're writing the new movie, so it makes sense that they had something to share about the project at Comic-Con.

Sadie Stanley will portray the crime fighting teenager, and many of the original characters from the show will be appearing on the big screen. Best friend Ron Stoppable will be played by Sean Giambore, Isaac Ryan Brown will play tech wiz Wade and Kim Possible's arch enemies, Dr. Drakken and Shego, will be played by Todd Stashwick and Taylor Ortega, respectively.

There isn't much information about the plot yet, but they did release the first photo of Stanley in costume as Kim possible and she's really rocking those combat boots.

Comic-Con 2018: Mega Man: Fully Charged Animated Series Gets New Trailer

By Jordan Ramée on Jul 22, 2018 04:06 am

Mega Man: Fully Charged is an upcoming animated series based on Capcom's Mega Man video game franchise. A new trailer for the show premiered at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, giving us an extended look at the series' protagonist and the type of threats he'll face.

Mega Man: Fully Charged will follow the adventures of Aki Light, a robotic boy who can transform into the hero Mega Man. Aki protects Silicon City from the villainous Sgt. Night and his Robot Masters, a group of evil robots that Mega Man fans will recognize from the games. Mega Man's friends from the games, like Rush the dog, pop up in the show too, and new allies like Mega Mini will also offer Aki support. Not that it looks like he'll need it, as the new trailer for Fully Charged shows that this version of Mega Man still has the ability to absorb and use the weapons and abilities of the robots he defeats.

Mega Man: Fully Charged is scheduled to premier on Cartoon Network on August 5. The series is 26 episodes long, making it much longer than the Mega Man Star Force animated series that aired on Cartoon Network back in 2007.

Mega Man returns to gaming this year as well. Mega Man 11 is the first Mega Man game in the main franchise since 2010's Mega Man 10. Fans have had to tide themselves over with Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2 in the eight year gap. Featuring voice acting, a 2.5D graphic style, and updated 3D polygonal characters and environments, Mega Man 11 is one of the slickest-looking Mega Man games to date. It will be coming to Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and PC on October 2 in Japan and October 4 in other regions.

Comic-Con 2018: Infinity War Director Says Avengers 4 Is The Russos' Best Work For Marvel Yet

By Jordan Ramée on Jul 22, 2018 03:07 am

Both Joe and Anthony Russo are proud of what they've managed to achieve with Avengers 4, the upcoming sequel to Avengers: Infinity War. The two brothers co-directed both movies, as well as Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.

In an interview with Deadline at San Diego Comic-Con, Joe Russo said, "I think ultimately Avengers 4 may be our best work for Marvel. I think we've grown with every movie that we've made there." The box office certainly agrees with Russo. Each Marvel film the Russo brothers direct is more financially successful than the last. The Winter Soldier grossed $714 million worldwide, while Civil War grossed $1.1 billion, and Infinity War grossed over $2 billion.

Russo and his brother aren't watching the numbers though. They want to focus on producing the type of story they want to tell. "You know, it's always an agenda of ours to block out the outside noise because it can lead you to make some bad choices with the material," Russo said. "We've learned over the years just to listen to ourselves, and it's great that there's two of us that we can have conversations with each other."

Production on Avengers 4 started and finished before the numbers came in for Infinity War, so Russo believes the "purity" of the film is still intact. Neither brother could be swayed by what people said worked and what people said didn't work for Infinity War. "We've been in post-production on [Avengers 4] since the release of Infinity War," Russo said. The crew has some additional photography that they'll be doing soon, but things are on track for Avengers 4's May 3, 2019 release date.
