The long-awaited sequel to the critically acclaimed Metroidvania Guacamelee is coming this year. A new trailer for Guacamelee 2 revealed the action-platformer is launching for PS4 and PC on August 21.
Guacamelee 2 continues where the first game left off, with luchador Juan Aguacate retired from supernatural adventuring and brawling. That all changes when a new threat emerges, and Juan once again dons the luchador mask that gives him his vast array of powerful attacks and abilities.
Like its predecessor, Guacamelee 2 will feature four-player local co-op, and a vast array of colorful abilities that offer new strategies for movement and combat. The same style of electro-Mexican soundtrack is making its return too, as well as the vibrant color palette used for the graphics. The game promises the return of familiar faces from the original, both friendly and villainous.
However, there are a few changes this time around. Guacamelee 2 has twice as many different enemy types for Juan to smash, plus many more bosses. Juan will also unlock new abilities he can only use after he's transforms into a chicken, instead of only finding new skills for his human form. He'll learn these new chicken abilities from some sort of Chicken Illuminati.
Fans of the original Guacamelee were surprised to hear its sequel would not be making its way to the PlayStation Vita. Guacamelee released on the Vita, PS3, and PC in 2013, before getting ported to Xbox 360, PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One the following year. Guacamelee 2 might copy its predecessor and eventually make its way to other platforms--like the Xbox One, Vita, or Nintendo Switch--at a later date.
The next massive total-conversion mod for Fallout 4 is taking players to Miami. A new trailer for Fallout: Miami reveals the Florida city remade in the war-torn, radiation-filled landscape of the Fallout universe. The primary modder behind Fallout: Miami is Milan "Mika999" Brajkovic, most well-known for being the creator behind the well-received Shard of Oblivion mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
The new mod takes reimagined content from Fallout 4 and its Far Harbor and Nuka-World DLC expansions. Fallout: Miami's website claims the mod's map will be slightly larger than Far Harbor's, roughly covering South Pointe Pier to Fontainebleau Hotel. The mod doesn't have an official release date as of yet, and the creators behind it are seeking volunteers who are familiar with the Fallout Creation Kit to help finish the project. The trailer seems to promise a similar experience to Fallout: New Vegas.
Fallout 4 is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. However, like most mods, Fallout: Miami is only scheduled for PC.
Another mod for PC, titled Fallout: New California is launching October 23. According to Polygon, New California is a mod of Fallout: New Vegas, and its story acts as an unofficial prequel to Bethesda's 2010 RPG.
Fallout 76, the next official release in the Fallout franchise, is heading to West Virginia. The game takes place in the earliest point on the Fallout timeline, approximately 60 years before the original 1997 game's story. Bethesda is taking a different approach with Fallout 76, opting for a massive-multiplayer online experience as opposed to a single-player RPG. Fallout 76 launches for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 14. A beta is scheduled for October.
Hello Games has launched the new update for No Man's Sky, called Next. The free update makes massive overhauls to the game by adding multiplayer, character customization, command freighters, and visual upgrades. Next is the fourth major update to No Man's Sky, following Foundation, Pathfinder, and Atlas Rises. However, it is perhaps the most substantial of them all.
No Man's Sky originally launched on PS4 and PC in August 2016, and was harshly criticized for a perceived lack of content. Although multiple updates have since expanded the number of activities that players can do, Sony management admits the PR strategy "wasn't great" and No Man Sky designer Sean Murray acknowledged that he made "mistakes."
Despite the initial backlash at launch, No Man's Sky's updates have slowly earned the game a growing playerbase. "One day I hope to reach a point where I feel No Man's Sky is 'finished,' but luckily there's still so much more we want to do," Murray said.
The major changes in No Man's Sky Next are outlined below, but you can read the full patch notes and bug fixes on No Man's Sky's blog. Though it's not in the patch notes, Murray tweeted out that Next also allows players to command their in-game avatar to sit down--a feature that players have been asking for. Perhaps a few more playful secrets are hidden within the game's newest update. We do now that a new patch is already on the way to fix problems that have emerged, as are weekly updates to keep things fresh. We'll keep you updated as we learn about more.
Multiplayer is the largest change to No Man's Sky. Though it was never confirmed whether multiplayer would be included prior to launch, many players wished to explore the galaxy with their friends however they wanted. Next adds a lot of the mechanics those players wanted, as well as a few more.
You can now join up with random strangers, or team up with a small contingent of friends to construct colonies of small shelters, race exocraft, or engage in space battles against other players. You'll be able to team up with friends right from the start, as the multiplayer extends to No Man's Sky's story and tutorial missions.
To help differentiate between avatars, Next adds character customization so that everyone can personalize their in-game appearance. You'll be able to switch up your race and change your outfits too. Depending on the species of your character, you'll even be able to change your hairstyle. Next allows players to be a Gek, Vy'keen, Korvax, Traveller, or Anomaly.
Not every player you meet is a friendly face, so when you run into another player in the midst of exploring the stars, it's best to be cautious. Although a stranger could be a harmless passerby or a future ally, Next allows players to prey on others to survive. A collection of ships approaching on the horizon might be a crew of players acting as space pirates who rely on the stolen loot of others.
Building And Crafting
You'll be able to invite your friends onto your very own command freighter to tackle challenging multiplayer missions. If you're still having trouble, you'll be able to build and upgrade a whole fleet of frigates, which you can then customize to specialize in combat, exploration, trade, industry, or support.
You can use what you've found to build bases, which can now be built anywhere on any planet. You'll even be able to build on top of mountains and beneath the sea. And if you don't like how the terrain is affecting the shape of your base, the improved terrain manipulator allows players to sculpt the planet's surface to their needs. The manipulator can be used to excavate ancient treasures too, which can be sold in the new Space Station Marketplace.
There are hundreds of new base parts that allow you to build bases that are larger and more complex so you can construct your perfect hideout. Next also lets players own multiple bases and place teleporters anywhere so travel goes much faster.
The resources used to customize your fleet and bases, as well as craft your gear and equipment, have all been reworked and rebalanced. Many of the resources you remember from the original No Man's Sky have received new names and been given completely different uses. Planetary resources have been expanded, and a planet's biome, weather, and classification have a much larger effect on what type of materials you'll find there.
To help you excavate the larger amounts of materials you'll discover, the deployable tech used in resource collection can now be easily picked up and carried in your inventory. The improved analysis visor makes it easier to locate terrain resources as well. You can also quickly find your bearings while exploring, thanks to visible latitude and longitude coordinates and the ability to tag points of interest with a marker.
Missions
The opening section of No Man's Sky has been updated with new story elements, as well as a tutorial that teaches you advanced gameplay features. Mission chains help get players started with exploring planets and starting bases.
Once past the tutorial, new types of missions are available to complete. Exploring is still at the core of No Man's Sky, but new photography, feeding, freighter attack and defense, archaeology, and hunting missions expand the amount of activities that players can do. Players won't be getting all of their objectives from the same NPC either, as a diverse assortment of random NPCs on different stations offer missions.
Patch Notes
Hello Games has released detailed patch notes for Next that outline everything that's changed, including the extreme minutia. Beyond all of the major features above you can see adjustments to controls (like the ability to manually holster the Multi-Tool), the overhaul to space station interiors, bug fixes, and much more.
Galactic Atlas
Just prior to the Next update going live, Hello Games launched a new website called the Galactic Atlas. This is essentially a guide to a specific area of the game--the Euclid Galaxy--that Hello seeded but will leave in the hands of players to explore and grow. From the site, you can track the progress of the galaxy, highlight points of interest, and join hubs or factions.
New Visuals
The visuals to No Man's Sky have also gotten an overhaul. Terrain generates faster and ground, water, and cloud textures have been upgraded. Ships, NPCs, and buildings have more detail too. No Man's Sky is also now fully playable in both first- and third-person, whether you're walking on the surface of a planet or soaring amongst the stars.
Draw distance has been improved so planets appear more dense and a new colour palette paints the forests, oceans, and plains of each world with added vibrancy. The hazardous storms that can spell the doom of smaller aircraft use new biome-specific particle effects to look more dangerous than ever before.
Fauna And Flora
The creatures you'll discover on your travels will now act more enthusiastically towards you if you feed them, letting you herd them together. The creatures' AI has also been revamped so they act more intelligently, responding to players they recognize as friendly and fleeing as a group from a perceived danger. Not all of the new animals and plantlife are friendly, however. Keep on the lookout for new hazardous species, as they will kill you if you're not careful.
Release Date/Time
No Man's Sky is available on PS4, PC, and Xbox One. Next is live on all platforms.
If you're an Xfinity internet customer who enjoys the occasional online deathmatch, we have some good news for you. Thanks to a special partnership between Activision and Xfinity, all Xfinity customers will be able to participate in the Private Multiplayer Beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. You can get your code starting July 27; just head to this page and sign in to your ISP account. The beta will take place August 3-6 for PS4 owners. Then, between August 10-13, another beta will go live for PS4, Xbox One, and PC owners.
Those without Xfinity internet can still participate in the beta, but they'll have to pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 to get access. This is the second year in a row Xfinity customers have gotten beta access for the series. Last year, they got to participate in the beta for Call of Duty: WWII.
The Black Ops 4 Private Multiplayer Beta will include six maps, two of which will be appearing for the first time in public. It will offer a number of play modes, including Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, and Search & Destroy. Also included will be a new mode called Control, an objective-based mode that has teams alternating between attacking and defending static objectives.
Participating in the beta gets you some free extras once the full game arrives. Everyone who plays the beta will get you a unique calling card as a bonus. If you reach max rank during the beta, you'll also get a Permanent Unlock Token, which can be used to acquire any piece of Create-a-Class content in the full game.
An additional beta is also planned for the battle royale-style Blackout mode, but it's not included in this promotion. All we know about it right now is that it will take place sometime in September. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 12.
Soon you can take Salt and Sanctuary with you wherever you go on Nintendo Switch. Ska Studios in partnership with porting house BlitWorks has announced that it's coming to Switch on August 2. The Souls-like will be available for $18 on the eShop. A separate retail version called Salt and Sanctuary: Drowned Tome Edition will follow this holiday season.
Salt and Sanctuary took the brutal-but-fair difficult boss battles of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls games and transferred it to a 2D plane, with side-scrolling action instead. GameSpot's review noted its tense combat, world-building, and rich mysteries, though some boss patterns were unpredictably frustrating.
"The two of us wanted to create a Soulslike game that we wanted to play, and finding that so many others who wanted it too warmed our dark little hearts," said co-creators Michelle and James Silva in the announcement. "Bringing Salt and Sanctuary to the Nintendo Switch means more people who like dismal, satisfying games can play our very dismal, satisfying game."
The end of Game of Thrones is inching closer and closer. With Season 8 set to debut in the first half of 2019, bringing the series to a close, many fans are waiting to see what becomes of the many proposed spin-offs that were in development. Thankfully, HBO programming president Casey Bloys shared some very interesting information at the TCA press tour.
While five pilot pitches were originally in contention, HBO recently ordered one to be filmed. It was initially reported that the pilot, written by Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass), would begin production in October, but Bloys says that was never the case.
It's only now that the search for a director is beginning, along with a cast. The hope is to film the pilot in Ireland in early 2019. As previously reported, the potential prequel is set thousands of years before Game of Thrones and "chronicles the world's descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour."
Bloys was quick to note that this one pilot going into production doesn't mean the others have no chance of seeing the light of day. Instead, he would only say that the remaining four pitches are a "combination" of dead and still in the works. "The reason we did multiple scripts is out of five, we'd be lucky if we got one," he admitted.
Though Game of Thrones' final season will air in 2019, a release date for the potential follow-up has not been announced.
Though it's been nearly a year since Game of Thrones Season 7 came to an end, fans are still hungry for any news about the George RR Martin series. Thankfully, HBO knows this and shared an exciting tidbit at the TCA press tour.
While a premiere date has yet to be announced for Season 8--the final batch of episodes for the show--HBO programming president Casey Bloys teased that the new installment will arrive in the first half of 2019. That could conceivably see Game of Thrones return to its previous release window of March or April, as opposed to Season 7's July 2017 premiere.
What Bloys wouldn't talk about, however, is what fans could expect from the six-episode season. When asked about the content, all he would share is that it's "pretty great." What else would you expect the president of programming to say about the network's biggest show, though?
Fans are aware of some things about the final season, though. For instance, it was previously revealed that the final six episodes could be feature-length by the time all is said and done. After the Season 7 finale clocked in at 82 minutes, HBO clearly has no issue letting Game of Thrones episodes run long. Given that star Kit Harington says the final season is "bigger than it's ever been," clearly the show is planning to go out with a band.
Additionally, it was announced that several fan-favorite directors, including "The Rains of Castamere" helmer David Nutter, would return for the final episodes. Showrunner David Benioff and DB Weiss will direct the series finale.

A new update is live for Rainbow Six Siege primarily focusing on balancing changes and bug fixes. The update launched first on PC before also coming to Xbox One and PS4. Called Patch 2.2, the update makes several gameplay changes.
The first change affects how players deploy drones. Instead of immediately pulling into the drone camera's view upon deployment, players will have the choice between Standard and Advanced views. For Standard, the player's view changes to that of the drone upon deployment. For Advanced, the player's view remains with their Operator after throwing out a drone, and drone view will have to be manually switched to.
Players also can now choose their preference for how they rotate through their team's Observation Tools. For Defenders, there are groups of Observation Tools, divided between the main collection of cameras and the groups of specialized cameras assigned to specific Operators, like Valkyrie. Before, Defenders rotated through all the cameras as one large group. Players can still do that if they prefer, or change their settings so the switch between different Observation Tool groups is manual instead of automatic.
It's been a very long time coming but Deadwood isn't quite so dead. After teasing a movie repeatedly since the series ended in 2006, HBO is officially moving forward with the project.
Speaking to reporters at the TCA press tour, HBO programming president Casey Bloys announced that a feature-length continuation of the series has been ordered. "I can finally confirm we are greenlit on the Deadwood movie," he teased. "We're looking at an October start date." While a release date has not been announced for the movie, Bloys teased a potential arrival in early 2019.
As for what's taken so long to make the project happen, given that it's been nearly 12 years since Deadwood ended, it was the schedule that made everything so difficult. "It has been a logistic nightmare getting all of the cast members schedules lined up," Bloys said. The original series starred Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, Kim Dickens, and Jim Beaver, among many others.
The announcement of a Deadwood movie actually happening is a longtime dream come true for many fans. When the series was canceled in 2006, creator David Milch and HBO had planned to make two movies for the network. However, in years since, nothing has come of it.
"We've been asked the Deadwood question for 11 consecutive years," HBO corporate communications chief Quentin Schaffer joked with the press. Now fans finally have the answer they've been waiting for.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice has already gotten a fair bit of attention as a sleeper hit from 2017, and soon players will be able to experience it in a whole new way. Developer Ninja Theory is releasing a VR Edition on Steam for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on July 31. Best of all, if you already own the game on Steam, or if you purchase it anytime in the future, you'll get the VR edition for free.
The VR edition includes the full original game along with customizable comfort options and "additional experimental game modes," according to the announcement. In a development diary (below) the studio talks about how it addressed problems of camera movement and getting the frame rate properly smooth for VR.
Hellblade won the most awards of the 2017 BAFTA Games Awards with five in all. Those included Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Best British Game, Game Beyond Entertainment, and Best Performer.
If you head to the theater and throw a rock, chances are you'll hit at least three superhero movies. The genre has taken over the box office in the last decade, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe leading the charge. With such a crowded movie landscape, it can be hard to cut through the noise. Luckily for Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, it has realized the easiest way to do so is with fart noises.
Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, the feature-length continuation of Cartoon Network's Teen Titans Go! series, has everything fans of the show will love. The team dances and sings, it's more about having fun than saving the world, and it's not afraid to delve into a long stretch of meta jokes.
The story is hilariously simple. Every superhero on the planet seems to have their own movies. That is, except, the Teen Titans. This crew that would rather eat sandwiches than conquer evil doesn't think they'll be considered real superheroes until their adventures are immortalized on the big screen. And how can you blame them? Even Aquaman is getting a movie.
As they quickly learn, though, thanks to Hollywood director Jade Wilson (Kristen Bell), the movie industry doesn't think the Titans are nearly important enough to get their own film. This is done through a series of in-movie trailers for everything from a standalone Alfred Pennyworth film to Batman's utility belt getting a movie, while the team gets nothing. That's when they realize the only way to become the stars they dream of being is to find a nemesis. In this case, that's Slade (Will Arnett).
For those who haven't solved that puzzle yet. Slade is Slade Wilson, otherwise known as Deathstroke. The movie never calls him that, though--they just repeatedly refer to him as Slade. While it could be due to Deathstroke being too extreme of a name for an animated kids film, the Titans repeatedly refer to him as Deadpool.
The running Deadpool joke is a smart one, given Teen Titans Go! To the Movies is essentially a Deadpool movie aimed at a much younger audience. The film is 90 minutes of nonstop poking fun at the superhero genre, including the MCU and X-Men universes. Nobody takes it on the chin as much as DC Comics, though. From posters for movies like Batman v Joker: Yawn of Justice to Green Lantern admitting that nobody likes to talk about the movie he made, no DC character is safe.
It's the sort of humor this extension of Teen Titans Go! uses to capture the attention of adult audiences who might not be as enraptured by a Beast Boy dance party as younger members of the crowd.
Another running joke in the film that might be lost on younger audiences is the fact that Nicolas Cage is the voice of Superman. As many know, Cage nearly played a live-action Superman on the big screen, thanks to Tim Burton's proposed Superman Lives film. While that project never ended up happening, Cage's performance as this world's Superman is perfect, as is Halsey's Wonder Woman. There's also a pretty incredible cameo that most fans won't see coming.
While, for the most part, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies is a fun, low-stakes adventure, it's not perfect. The jokes about farting and pooping can wear thin. There's an extended sequence where most of the team revels in the fact that they used a fake toilet on a movie set to take care of their business. While this might be the kind of humor that makes some of the younger audiences giddy, it felt out of place. The movie spends a lot of time masterfully joking about and mocking so many things. Spending its energy on such low-hanging fruit seems unnecessary.
Additionally, though it's only 92 minutes long, there was a point close to the end of the second act where the story started to drag. Thankfully, once the third act kicks in, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies thrusts into overdrive as the Titans and a massive robot Slade go to war.
In the end, though, this is the kind of superhero film adults and small children can go to and both find something they'll love. In a superhero movie landscape where the world is constantly being destroyed by massive CGI abominations, this is a refreshing change. Will Teen Titans Go! To the Movies save the DC Comics movie universe? Not in the least. However, like the recently released Ant-Man and the Wasp, it doesn't forget how funny and exciting these types of movies can be.
Teen Titans Go! To the Movies is in theaters on July 27.
The Good:
A low-stakes adventure that's easy to get invested in
Sony's reveal of Ghost of Tsushima was one of the highlights of Paris Games Week 2017, and what a surprise it was to find out that Infamous and Sly Cooper developer, Sucker Punch Games, is behind the project. The original trailer laid the foundation: a fictionalized take on an actual 13th century Mongol invasion, with a protagonist who transforms from samurai to ninja in order to protect the island his people call home. This year's E3 gave us a first look at live gameplay, and our first real taste of the beautifully realized environments that serve as the backdrop for what promises to be a brutal and unforgiving conflict.
We've pulled together everything we know about Ghost of Tsushima so far, including info on combat and details about the island and its inhabitants, and will continue to provide new updates as we learn more.
Ghost of Tsushima is set on the Japanese island of Tsushima, a location that in 1274 was invaded by Mongol raiders. Sucker Punch did extensive research on the actual island, including the study of the original beach where the Mongols first struck land. The team's vision is best summarized as an informed remix of the real island's geography, flora, and fauna. For Sucker Punch, it's all about glorifying the source material to set the stage for equally beautiful and tense moments in a war-torn idyllic countryside.
The lead character is Jin Sakai, and Jin will have to take what he's learned after years of training as a samurai and adjust his techniques in order to fend off forces that greatly outnumber the island's inhabitants, let alone the one-man army fighting to protect them. Sucker Punch's Chris Zimmerman described the tone of the game as brutal, but he also clarified that both sides of the conflict will reflect the humanity that so often gets lost in combat-driven games, with both Mongols and Japanese characters that will defy expectations--Masako, the character in the E3 trailer, being a prime example.
Combat
One of the primary conceits of Ghost of Tsushima is Jin's gradual adoption of ninja-like fighting and stealth techniques, of which we've only gotten a taste of so far. The majority of the available info on combat is focused on swordplay, either in one-on-one fights or with Jin facing off against small groups of enemies.
Despite the prevalence of realism, Ghost of Tsushima is not Bushido Blade, a fighting game where a single sword strike could spell death--just like real life. According to Zimmerman, this model simply isn't fun in the team's eyes. Still, we have seen moments in the available footage where Jin successfully takes off body parts and kills enemies with a flick of his wrist, and it appears this is more likely to happen while fending off common enemies, versus more important battles where opponents can absorb multiple slashes.
While Sucker Punch has hired weapons experts to help direct combat and attack animations, the studio is also going to play up traditional techniques by judiciously adding flair for effect. "There are things that Jin does when you're fighting that no samurai would ever do," said Zimmerman. "He does spin strikes, which are fun, they're very showy, they are completely… you would never do that [in real life]. You would never turn your back. There are things that he does even right now that we may continue to edit as we look for that balance. We'll see if we can find the best of both worlds, where it's as real as it can be while still being a video game."
Historical Accuracy
One of the most interesting discussions around the game coming out of E3 was about Sucker Punch's philosophy behind making a fun, fictional game based on dramatic real-life events. Once again, Zimmerman offered valuable insight. The team knows what historians have reported, but only so much of it will be honored--a decision made to cater to mainstream expectations of samurai, informed by movies and games alike.
According to Zimmerman: "we're going to deviate from historical truth, we just want to do it intentionally. A lot of the support we get from our friends from Sony in Japan, and our Japanese friends in Sony US, and all the cultural consultants we've assembled to help us do this stuff, is to make sure we don't deviate accidentally. There are things we are going to do that are different and we want to choose those wisely."
"If you have an idea about what samurai look like or how they act or how they think we're going to give that to you," he added. "Most people's idea is really based on an idea of samurai which is really more of a 16th-, 17th-, 18th-century idea of samurai; 13th century, historically, is pretty different. In terms of how they fought, what they wore, it doesn't match your expectations. So we're not sticking exactly to the historical truth of Kamakura-era samurai. It's gonna be a little different. The armor that you see him wear, it's not 13th century armor. It's more warring-states-period armor. Because, honestly, the 13th century armor is pretty jarring looking, it's not what you'd expect. It's really boxy. It doesn't look aspirational. And we wanna make sure that what we give you is your fantasy of what being a wandering samurai is."
Language Options
The E3 gameplay trailer had some of us concerned due to the use of English voice acting, which stood out given the game's historical basis and the stated import of cultural identity. Rest assured, there are language options available for players who prefer to hear Japanese and Mongolian voiceovers with English subtitles.
Difficulty
Speaking to Zimmerman, it sounds like Sucker Punch will create multiple difficulty settings in order to cater to a wide range of players. "There are difficulty levels and that's actually kind of more important for us than it is for a lot of games, because it's an open world game and lots of different people play those games for different reasons. There are people who are going to say it's beautiful and they just want to see what it's like, and yeah, their experience has to be different than somebody who looks at it like they've always wanted to play a really grounded katana fighting game, and the fantasy for them is about challenge, discipline, practice and precision--that's what they expect of samurai and that's what the game should demand from them as the player."
Release Date
Neither Sucker Punch nor Sony have committed to a release date for Ghost of Tsushima at this time.

2010's Fallout: New Vegas was developed by Obsidian Entertainment, not by Bethesda Game Studios itself. The game was generally well-liked, with GameSpot praising its big, detailed open world and quests filled with personality. While Obsidian has said it would like to make another Fallout game someday, it sounds like that won't happen. Bethesda boss Todd Howard said in a new interview that the company would rather develop big games internally.
He told The Guardian that he isn't ready to say definitively that a Fallout game from an outside studio won't ever happen again--but don't count on it.
"I wouldn't say never," Howard said. "[But] now that our company is so big, it's always better to keep stuff internal ... it becomes less likely, but I could never say never. I thought the Obsidian guys did a fabulous job."
This is all to say, Bethesda has more internal development headcount than it did years ago when it went to Obsidian to make a Fallout game. Given the size and stature of the Fallout brand, it makes sense that Bethesda would want to develop new entries in-house, as it theoretically gives the company more control over the end product.
The next big Bethesda Game Studios title is this year's Fallout 76, which is a multiplayer-focused entry in the long-running series. After that, the studio will release its new sci-fi game Starfield, and after that will come The Elder Scrolls VI.
Both Joe and Anthony Russo are proud of what they've managed to achieve with Avengers 4, the upcoming sequel to Avengers: Infinity War. The two brothers co-directed both movies, as well as Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.
In an interview with Deadline at San Diego Comic-Con, Joe Russo said, "I think ultimately Avengers 4 may be our best work for Marvel. I think we've grown with every movie that we've made there." The box office certainly agrees with Russo. Each Marvel film the Russo brothers direct is more financially successful than the last. The Winter Soldier grossed $714 million worldwide, while Civil War grossed $1.1 billion, and Infinity War grossed over $2 billion.
Russo and his brother aren't watching the numbers though. They want to focus on producing the type of story they want to tell. "You know, it's always an agenda of ours to block out the outside noise because it can lead you to make some bad choices with the material," Russo said. "We've learned over the years just to listen to ourselves, and it's great that there's two of us that we can have conversations with each other."
Production on Avengers 4 started and finished before the numbers came in for Infinity War, so Russo believes the "purity" of the film is still intact. Neither brother could be swayed by what people said worked and what people said didn't work for Infinity War. "We've been in post-production on [Avengers 4] since the release of Infinity War," Russo said. The crew has some additional photography that they'll be doing soon, but things are on track for Avengers 4's May 3, 2019 release date.

GameStop puts out its weekly ad each Wednesday, with a new selection of deals on video games, hardware, accessories, and collectibles. This week's sale has some good discounts on gaming headsets, as well as a handful of PS4 and Xbox One games (Switch owners will have to look elsewhere for deals this week). If you're ready to unload some of the games you've already played, you can find some nice trade-in bonuses as well. These deals are good through July 31, so let's dive in.
Not many games are on sale this week, but you can see the full list below. Basketball fans can grab NBA 2K18 or NBA Live 18 for $20 each. Both are fine sports games, though 2K18 came out one point ahead in our review scores. Star Wars Battlefront II is on sale for $25--not bad for a game that's gotten many updates since its disastrous launch last year.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War recently got a big update that removed the microtransaction market from the game. It's currently on sale for $20, and if you buy it for PS4 at a local brick-and-mortar GameStop, you get the season pass for free (the code is printed on the receipt).
In terms of hardware, just like at Best Buy, you'll get $10 off an extra controller if you buy an Xbox One. And if you're in the market for a gaming headset, you can save a $30 on a wireless one from HyperX, bringing it down to $130, or save $5 on a wired Turtle Beach headset for a total of $40.
If you're looking to trade in games or other items between now and August 12, you'll get extra cash, because cash is getting temporarily bumped up to credit value. And if you can find four used games under $10 you want to buy, you'll get them all for $20.
The Legendary Pokemon Regice has now left Pokemon Go, but a new Legendary has taken its place. Registeel, the second of the three Legendary titans originally from Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, has begun appearing around the world, and it'll remain in the game until August 21.
Like Regice before it, Registeel boasts high defensive stats, making it a formidable opponent. As with most other Legendaries, it can be encountered as a Raid Battle at Gyms. Players will first need to team up in-person with other trainers to battle Registeel; once it's been defeated, they'll earn a chance to capture it.
As its name implies, Registeel is a Steel-type, meaning it is most susceptible to Fire, Fighting, and Ground Pokemon. If you're planning on taking it on, you'll want to consider using Charizard, Moltres, Blaziken, Machamp, and other powerful Pokemon on your team to stand the best chance against Registeel.
The third and final Legendary titan, Regirock, is also slated to debut in Pokemon Go this summer. Niantic hasn't announced when the Pokemon will begin appearing in the game, but it will presumably arrive next month just as Registeel is departing.
Pokemon Go players have two events to look forward to next month. First is the August Community Day, which will take place on two days--August 11 and 12--and feature the popular Eevee. Beyond that, Niantic will host a special Safari Zone event in Yokosuka, Japan, from August 29 to September 2. Players who can't attend the event in-person will still be able to participate in Global Challenges for a chance to unlock bonuses.
We're now well into July 2018, and with a new month comes another batch of free titles for PlayStation Plus subscribers. As per usual, July's PS Plus lineup consists of six games divided up across PS4, PS3, and Vita, all of which are available to download at no charge through the end of the month.
Headlining PS4's selection of freebies is Heavy Rain, the narrative-driven game from Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream. Heavy Rain originally launched for PS3 back in 2010 and was re-released on Sony's current-gen console in 2016. Joining it is Absolver, a unique and flexible third-person adventure/fighting game in which players can fully customize their fighting style.
On the PS3 side, Plus subscribers can now download the classic 3D platformer Rayman 3 HD, as well as Extreme Exorcism, a retro-style platformer in which players hunt their own ghosts. Extreme Exorcism is available in place of Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess, which was initially announced to be one of this month's free PS Plus titles. The game is also playable on PS4 via Cross-Buy.
Finally, Vita owners can download the acclaimed adventure game Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma and the action game Space Overlords for free this month. Like Extreme Exorcism, the latter also supports Cross-Buy with PS4, getting you four possible freebies on that platform in July.
All of the aforementioned games will remain free to download for PS Plus members until next month, when they'll return to their regular prices. You can see the full list of July's free PS Plus games below.
Dragon Ball FighterZ arrives on Nintendo Switch this September, but Switch owners will have a chance to try the acclaimed fighting game out before then. Bandai Namco has announced it will host an open beta for Dragon Ball FighterZ on Switch sometime in August.
No further details on the open beta have been revealed yet, so it's unclear how many fighters and modes will be available or what days the test will run, but Bandai Namco has confirmed the beta will be open to players in North America, Europe, and Japan. The open beta held for the PS4 and Xbox One versions ahead of their release featured 11 playable characters and a handful of different stages and modes, although it remains to be seen if the Switch beta will feature a similar lineup.
In addition to announcing the open beta, Bandai Namco has revealed that the Switch version of Dragon Ball FighterZ will launch with a couple of new local mulitplayer options, specifically an offline six-player Party Match mode and 2v2 and 1v1 matches. The publisher hasn't announced if these options will also be added to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions.
In other Dragon Ball FighterZ news, Bandai Namco recently unveiled the two newest DLC characters coming to the game: the base forms of Goku and Vegeta. Both characters are expected to release next month and are modeled after their appearances during the Saiyan Saga in Dragon Ball Z.
Bandai Namco recently revealed the classic versions of Goku and Vegeta will be the next two DLC characters coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ. Ahead of their release next month, the publisher has shared a pair of new trailers, giving fans their first look at the two upcoming fighters in action.
Both base forms of Goku and Vegeta are modeled after their appearance from the Saiyan Saga in Dragon Ball Z. Goku sports his original training gi and flies in at the start of the match on his Flying Nimbus. His moveset is likewise taken primarily from this era of the series. Along with the Kamehameha, he can unleash the Spirit Bomb and use the Kaioken to amplify his power.
Vegeta, meanwhile, wears his iconic Saiyan armor, complete with his tail wrapper around his waist. He can unleash his signature Galick Gun attack, as well as the Galaxy Breaker--the move he used to kill his comrade Nappa in the series. You can watch Vegeta showcase these attacks in the video below.
Bandai Namco hasn't announced a release date or pricing details for Goku and Vegeta yet, but the pair are slated to arrive in August. Previous DLC characters like Vegito and Fused Zamasu could be purchased for $5 US / £4 / $7.55 AU each. The new fighters are also included in the Dragon Ball FighterZ season pass, which costs $35 US / £22 / $40.95 AU and gives players access to eight DLC characters upon their release.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is also scheduled to release for Nintendo Switch on September 28. Before then, Bandai Namco will hold an open beta for the Switch version sometime in August. Players who pre-order the Switch version will also receive a digital Japanese copy of the rare Dragon Ball Z Super Famicom game, Super Butoden, as well as immediate access to Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta.
No Man's Sky's big Next update is now available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The free update makes sweeping visual improvements and introduces a number of much-requested features to the ambitious sci-fi exploration game, including multiplayer, enhanced base building, a third-person perspective, and more.
Multiplayer is the most significant addition to No Man's Sky. Now, players are able to form a small team with friends or other random players and explore the universe together. Developer Hello Games says players are also able to fight with friends and foes in "epic space battles," as well as race exocraft together across planets.
As previously mentioned, base building has also been overhauled in the Next update. Now, players are able to own multiple bases, which can be constructed anywhere on a planet. The complexity and size limits of the bases you're able to build have also been "dramatically" increased, while "hundreds" of new base parts have been introduced to the game.
Additionally, the Next update introduces the ability to command freighters. Players can now assemble and upgrade a fleet of frigates, then send them out into the universe or use them to help explore a particular system. Players can also invite friends on board to embark on multiplayer missions together from the Galactic Commission Station.
Finally, the Next update overhauls nearly every facet of No Man's Sky's visuals. Hello Games says it has "dramatically improved planetary terrain generation, ground textures, water, and clouds." Ships, NPCs, and buildings have likewise received visual improvements, and the entire game is now playable from either a first-person or third-person perspective, both on-foot and in spaceships.
You can find the full patch notes for the update on the game's official website. Next is the fourth major update No Man's Sky has received since it first launched back in 2016, but it won't be the extent of the content coming to the title. Hello Games says it plans to continue supporting No Man's Sky with weekly missions and events, the first of which are slated to kick off next week.
Bethesda's annual fan event, QuakeCon, is just around the corner, and it promises to offer another look at some of the publisher's biggest upcoming titles. Bethesda has already confirmed this year's event will feature the gameplay reveal of Doom Eternal, and now the company has teased it will also share some new details on the highly anticipated Fallout 76.
Bethesda has announced it will host a panel and Q&A session about the upcoming online RPG at QuakeCon 2018. The panel takes place on Saturday, August 11, at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET and will feature Todd Howard and other developers from Bethesda Game Studios providing a "deeper dive into the character system and Perks coming in Fallout 76."
In addition to the Fallout 76 panel, Bethesda will hold a big keynote address at this year's QuakeCon. The presentation takes place at the same time--9 AM PT / 12 PM ET--on Friday, August 10, and will provide updates on several titles, including Quake Champions, Rage 2, and The Elder Scrolls Online, as well as the aforementioned gameplay reveal of Doom Eternal.
QuakeCon 2018 takes place in Grapevine, Texas. Tickets for the event are still available; if you're interested in attending, you can purchase tickets here. If you can't make it to the event in-person, Bethesda will also livestream its keynote address and the Fallout 76 panel as they happen on its Mixer and Twitch channels.
Fallout 76 launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 14. Ahead of its release, Bethesda will hold a special beta for those who pre-order the title. The beta is slated to begin in October, but it will start off small; Bethesda says it will select players for the beta and gradually expand over time, so not everyone who pre-orders the title will be chosen to participate right away.
Steam has updated with revised chat features. The revised functionality was announced last month and has been available in beta, but with the recent update it's become available to all users. It includes new grouping features, a Favorites tag, and more details on what your friends are up to.
The big Chat Update lets you set a handful of friends in a Favorites bar at the top of your list so you can always see what they're up to at a glance. Friends will also automatically be grouped by game and by party, making it easier to jump in and play with them. The friends menu will show more specific detail about what exactly your friends are doing in a game, too. Finally, group chats can be pulled together more easily.
The actual chat features more in-line functions as well. Video, images, and tweets are visible right inside the chat space, and you can drag new friends and drop them right into an existing group chat. If you like your group, you can save it for future reference. The persistent group chats make it easier to find your friends for a game, and voice will persist while chatting before, during, and after the game. This update is available now on the Steam client, but you can also try it out on the Web client.
PES 2019's release date is set for the end of August, and now publisher Konami has announced when we can play the game's demo. A playable trial version of the game will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam) on August 8.
"Exhibition match, quick match, and offline co-op modes will be available to play in one of two stadiums, FC Barcelona's Camp Nou or FC Schalke 04's Veltins Arena," Konami stated in a press release. "Fans will have their pick from a selection of 10 teams including Liverpool FC, FC Barcelona, and Inter Milan, plus national sides Argentina and France."
PES 2019's new features include visible player fatigue on the pitch, improved ball physics and player positioning, and greater player individuality. Konami says this year's edition of the long-running sports franchise includes "more licensed clubs and leagues than ever before," though the publisher has lost its decade-long UEFA license to EA and its FIFA series. New licensed teams for this year include AS Monaco, whose kit and stadium, among other details, will be included in full in PES 2019.
The full game launches August 28 on PS4 and Xbox One in the US, August 30 on PS4 and Xbox One in Europe, and August 30 on PC worldwide. FIFA 19's release date, meanwhile, is set for September 28 worldwide.
The big new update for No Man's Sky, dubbed Next, makes a large number of changes and additions. At least on paper, it's a dramatic overhaul for numerous areas. While these new mechanics and gameplay elements--along with multiplayer--are the most exciting components of the free update, developer Hello Games has also given the game a pretty nice visual makeover.
As detailed in a blog post outlining all of the changes and patch notes, Hello shows how it has improved the graphics of No Man's Sky. This includes "massively improved draw distance," allowing you to see further into the horizon, and "new dynamic tessellation [that] enable detailed terrain height maps without sacrificing performance." The latter won't necessarily be available to everyone, as Hello notes that "tessellation will be rolling out in parity to all platforms that can support it very soon."
Although Hello lumps them in with the visual improvements, some of these changes are more than just visual enhancements. For instance, while it says the surfaces of planets "look more interesting and representative from orbit," the actual geography can now be different, too. Hello says that it's improved "planetary terrain generation [to] create more varied alien environments, featuring higher mountains and more navigable cave systems."
You can see some comparison images above and below (use the slider tool to see how things looked before and after the update). The changes also extend to out space, where you'll find asteroid rings around planets, among other improvements.
The need for a visual overhaul is not what held No Man's Sky back, and we'll be diving in to see how the gameplay additions stack up. But this is all a welcome addition to what's looking like a very nice set of changes for a free update.
The neverending onslaught of new Fortnite updates continues, with patch 5.10 now available. It's a notable one, with a new weapon, birthday challenges, and more included, but perhaps best of all are the variety of map changes that have been implemented--one of which is quite funny, though it requires you to know where to look.
To understand this tribute on the map, you need to be familiar with the plight of Chappadoodle. Recently, streamer Muselk published a video of an attempted rescue operation in Fortnite. He sees an All-Terrain Kart nearing the edge of the map and goes to investigate, only to discover a player--Chappadoodle--has fallen far off the edge of the map but somehow managed to survive. Assuming Chappadoodle has simply run out of building materials and is stuck, Muselk builds an elaborate series of stairs to get them out. But just as they are about to reach the trapped player, he finds himself unable to build further, seemingly due to a block in place at such a low elevation.
Luckily, the aforementioned ATK was still hanging around up above, so Muselk retrieves it, intending to use its bouncy roof to let Chappadoodle reach the stairs. While attempting to bring the ATK down, it goes dangerously tumbling down the side of the cliff, but somehow manages to not fall off the map--only to mistakenly collide with Chappadoodle, sending them flying off the map to their death. And in a cruel twist, Muselk tests his theory of using the ATK's roof to reach the stairs, and sure enough, it works.
The official Fortnite account shared a clip of all this, as you'd expect any game developer to do with a funny video involving its game. Not content with simply doing that, Reddit user StoreBrandEnigma has found that Epic has actually memorialized the entire incident in-game. As of patch 5.10, if you visit the spot where Chappadoodle died, you'll find a tombstone. And nearby, where the ATK's roof was needed, you'll find a set of tires (which in Fortnite also send you flying into the air). You can see it in the screenshot below or watch video of it here.
This isn't the first time Epic has acknowledged happenings in the community in-game. Maybe most famously, theories that Season 4's comet would destroy Tilted Towers led to Epic leaving signs from a doomsday party on the roof of one of Tilted's buildings.
The new tombstone appears to be just one of several small changes to the map unmentioned in the patch notes. Redditor ImmortalTechniquez found a skeet shooting setup, while Sqoof noticed that Risky Reels has been patched up.
Epic Games is currently celebrating Fortnite's 1st birthday with new challenges that will unlock emotes, sprays, and bling. However, it's also offering some extra skins to those that have been with the game from the very start. Fortnite originally launched with just the mode that is now known as Save the World, and was available to purchase as a Founder's Pack. When the Battle Royale mode was later launched, those that had purchased the Founder's Pack were promised some free skins, and almost a year later they've materialised.
To thank you for your continued support, all founder's pack owners will receive the legendary Warpaint and Rose Team Leader Outfits in Battle Royale as part of our v5.10 release. pic.twitter.com/JhgswBdBZR
If you purchased the Fortnite Founder's Pack, when you jump into Battle Royale will be greeted with a notification informing you that you have new cosmetics. These include Legendary Warpaint and Rose Team Leader outfit, which are available to use now. You can take a look at images of the new skins below.
These new skins were released as part of the Fortnite 5.10 update, which also includes the aforementioned birthday challenges. There's three challenges in total, and while the first two are fairly straightforward, the third requires a little bit of legwork. To make things a bit easier for you, we have a Fortnite 1st Birthday Challenges guide. Using that, you'll be able to get those emotes, skins, sprays, and bling in no time.
The new update also brings back the Playground LTM, which was introduced to give players a low-pressure place to hone their skills and experiment with friends. For its return, Epic Games has made a few changes, such as adding new team select options and also letting squads set up team battles for practice and training. Additionally, the Compact SMG has been added to Battle Royale, you can read about that and much more in our detailed Fortnite update 5.01 patch notes story.
To celebrate the first birthday of Fortnite, developer Epic Games has introduced a special set of celebratory challenges to the game as part of the 5.10 update. There are a total of three new challenges, and if you're able to complete all of them you'll get a special, birthday-themed reward item. Thankfully, each of the challenges are fairly easy, though one of them will require you to spend a little bit of time running around the map and getting your dance on. Here's what you need to know and where to go.
The first of the challenges involves playing 14 matches in the Battle Royale mode, which you can probably manage with ease. The second involves being a little aggressive in-game and dealing damage to opponents. You'll have to dish out a total of 1000 points of hurt before you're rewarded with the birthday emote.
The third of the challenges requires you to dance in front of 10 different birthday cakes, and once you've done that you'll get a spray. We've done the legwork and put the locations of each of the birthday cakes on the map, which you can find below. There's also a list of the locations, along with a short description on where to find the cakes. Alternatively, you can watch the video above to see us find each of the cakes and do a little jig.
With all three challenges complete, you'll unlock a special back bling for your character. You've got up until August 7, when the event will no longer be active. You can see an image of the new Back Bling, along with the details for the three challenges, below.
Fortnite 1st Birthday Challenges
Play matches (14) -- 5,000 XP
Deal damage to opponents (1000) -- Emote
Dance in front of different Birthday Cakes (10) -- Spray

Fatal Fields: In the middle of Fatal Fields

Alongside the new challenges, Epic Games has detailed the contents of the 5.10 update. The patch brings back the Playground LTM, which has had a few tweaks for its second appearance. There's also the introduction of the Compact SMG, which is deadly when you get in close. A number of tweaks have also been made to the gameplay, performance, and user-interface, so check out our story on the full patch notes to see that all. You'll also find some details on what's new with Save the World mode.
In related news, Fortnite Halloween costumes are going to be released as part of a partnership with retailers Spirit Halloween and Spencer. The two completed a deal with Epic Games for "a range of officially licensed" Fortnite costumes, as well as accessories and gear based on the brand. There are outfits based on the Black Knight, Crackshot, Dark Voyager, Skull Trooper, and Cuddle Team Leader skins. You can also purchase the basic, rainbow smash, and party animal pickaxes, or a light-up boogie bomb that actually plays sound.
