It's been a couple years since we've seen Thor and Hulk, who were the only two Avengers that didn't appear in Captain America: Civil War. Now, Thor is back in his third solo adventure, Thor: Ragnarok. It's coming to theaters on November 3. Today, a teaser trailer for the upcoming film was released--which you can watch here--and we're breaking it all down for you. Thor Is All Tied Up
The teaser opens up with Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, wrapped in chains, hanging in an underground cavern. He says, "I know what you're thinking. How did this happen? Well, it's a long story." He could be in Hel, the resting place for those from the Nine Realms. It's the Norse version of Hell. Hela Stops Mjolnir
The next shot shows Hela, played by Cate Blanchett. She is holding Thor's hammer--Mjolnir--with ease. According to lore, only someone worthy can lift the hammer. In the comics, Hela is the Norse god of death, and she rules Hel and Niffleheim. Mjolnir Is No More
While gripping the hammer, Hela crushes and destroys it. For those of us who thought Mjolnir was indestructible, we were wrong. Hela's Full Costume
Hela appears in her full garb, which closely resembles her comic book counterpart. In this scene, she's clearly in Hel. After viewing the entire teaser, it's clear this scene takes place in the past. Hela Storms Asgard
Hela stands in front of the guards in Asgard. She says, "Asgard is dead" before going into battle against this massive army. Asgard Is No More
Asgard gets destroyed. It didn't take Hela any effort. Is she using something or someone else to help her or is she this powerful on her own? Thor Is On An Alien Planet
Thor is falling towards a planet's surface, and the next shot shows him standing on a new, alien planet. The Natives Are Not Friendly
Thor meets the inhabitants of the planet, who quickly fire a net gun at him. Valkyrie Is Not On Thor's Side
The person pulling him is none other than Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson. In the comics, the character is one of Asgard's most powerful warriors. She seems to be more foe than friend here. An Ancient Battle Against Hela
We few warriors riding on the back of flying horses are headed towards Hela in battle. It is unclear, from this angle, who the person riding into battle is. Valkyrie Has Fallen
One of the warriors falls to Earth, and it looks like Valkyrie. The warrior in the last slide may have been a different soldier, considering the lighter hair color. This is most likely a flashback sequence: a moment Valkyrie will talk to Thor about. Thor Is A Prisoner
Thor is now a prisoner, and he's strapped to a chair. He gives someone a dirty look, while the person behind him cuts his hair. Valkyrie Is Forced To Capture Thor
The person Thor is looking at is Valkyrie. By the look on her face, her actions--including capturing Thor--are against her will. The Grandmaster
The Grandmaster, played by Jeff Goldblum, is seen briefly. In the comics, Grandmaster is an ancient cosmic being who loves games. He asks Valkyrie, "What have you brought for me today, tell me?" Valkyrie responds, "A contender." Heimdall Appears Briefly
Heimdall, played by Idris Elba, is back. There is a quick shot of him swinging his sword at someone. Loki Engages In Battle
Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, returns, and it looks like he's actually getting involved in the battle. Whose side is he on? Thor Got A Haircut
Thor--now sporting short hair--finds himself in a coliseum battle. He's got some warpaint on and the Grandmaster announces, "It's main event time." Thor's Gladiator Outfit
Thor's complete battle outfit is shown in the next shot, complete with a mace and a shield. Could the colors on the shield pay tribute to his friend and ally, Captain America? He's also wearing a helmet that mildly resembles the one he wears in the comics. The Green Scar Arrives
Thor's opponent is the Hulk, who is wearing his Planet Hulk armor from the comics. In Planet Hulk, Hulk crash lands on an alien planet and becomes a gladiator. Eventually, he takes down the ruler and becomes king. Thor Is Excited To See A Friend
Thor couldn't be more pleased with his opponent. He yells, "Yes! We know each other! He's a friend from work." This adds a fun, light-hearted tone to the trailer. Hopefully, there is a whole lot more of this. Loki And Grandmaster Are Working Together
Loki sits with Grandmaster while watching the battle. It seems like Loki is a villain once again. Or is he just playing a trick on Grandmaster? Many designs for the characters in the background pay homage to legendary comic artist Jack Kirby and his work. Thor and Hulk End Up Fighting Anyway
It looks like Hulk and Thor will be fighting each other anyway. Thor: Ragnarok comes to theaters on November 3.
