Every Wrestlemania 33 Match, Ranked

By Mat Elfring on Apr 03, 2017 12:24 pm

Wrestlemania 33 took place in Orlando on April 2, and it featured a plethora of matches over the course of the six and a half hour show (You can check out just the results here). Here is our ranking of each of the matches, from worst to best.

There are Wrestlemania spoilers ahead.

13. The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns

While the main event of Wrestlemania featured the final match of The Undertaker, both men were winded, and it dragged on way too long. One of the highlights of the match was when Reigns was beating down Taker with a chair.

12. John Cena & Nikki Bella vs. The Miz & Maryse

While this match had the best build up on the entire card, the actual fight was short and nothing more than a showcase of Cena and Bella. However, the aftermath was wonderful as Cena proposed to his longtime girlfriend in the ring.

11. Alexa Bliss vs. Smackdown Women's Roster

This could have been a great match, since there was a lot of talent involved. However, it ended in under six minutes. On the plus side, Naomi got to reclaim the Smackdown Women's Championship.

10. Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg

The third meeting between Lesnar and Goldberg seemed like a repeat of the first two matches, but very quickly, Lesnar dominated his opponent. While this was the longest fight between the two, it lasted just short of five minutes.

9. Baron Corbin vs. Dean Ambrose

The battle for the Intercontinental Championship was a fight of power vs. speed. There was a nice balance to the match, and a few memorable spots, like Corbin reversing Ambrose's rope-rebound move and the End of Days reversal. It was a nice cap to the Kickoff Show.

8. Seth Rollins vs. Triple H

A hurt Seth Rollins took on Triple H in a brutal battle, which felt a lot like a passing of the torch to Rollins. The whole match was about Rollins trying to overcome his injury to beat one of the people in charge of the company. It had some great storytelling and a satisfying finish.

7. Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Battle Royals, like this one, have a tough job. It's hard to have a great match when there are so many different stories to tell in the ring. Right off the bat, fans got a surprise when the two biggest guys in the ring, Braun Strowman and Big Show, were eliminated early. We did get a celebrity spot from Rob Gronkowski, which helped Mojo Rawley get the win. It worked for the match, and overall, this match ended up being a bit better than expected.

6. Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton

The WWE Championship match was bizarre. During the match, the arena went dark and the wrestling mat had a video projected on it featuring worms, maggots, and roaches. This match cemented the mysterious and mystical side of Bray Wyatt. While Randy Orton winning wasn't what fans had wanted, overall, it was a good--yet untraditional--match.

5. Bayley vs. Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax

If anything, the Raw Women's Championship match really help cement Nia Jax as an unstoppable force, early on. It took the combined efforts of Bayley, Charlotte, and Sasha Banks to take Jax out. There were some great spots during the match, including Bayley doing the Randy Savage elbow drop off the top rope.

4. Shane McMahon vs. AJ Styles

While many fans weren't happy with the booking of this match, it blew everyone away. This was a fight that went back and forth. Shane McMahon and AJ Styles told an engaging story that built towards some awesome high spots, like McMahon doing a Shooting Star Press. It was one of McMahon's best matches, even with the loss.

3. Neville vs. Austin Aries

There has never been a better Kickoff Show match than Neville vs. Austin Aries. The match may have set the bar a little too high though. What made this cruiserweight match work so well is that it had the pacing and feel of a match between two bigger stars. It was a really interesting juxtaposition. The highlight was the Super-Frankensteiner Aries pulled off on Neville.

2. The Hardy Boyz vs. Cesaro & Sheamus vs. Big Cass & Enzo vs. Gallows & Anderson

The addition of the Hardy Boyz to this match upped the anticipation for the fight. They did not disappoint. It was great to see the tag team back at WWE, and they proved why they are the "go to" guys for a ladder match. In addition, Cesaro and Sheamus did some great work as well.

1. Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens

Finally, the best match of the evening was Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens for the United States Championship. While these two always put on a great show, this match exceeded expectations. The build up was near perfect, and the spot of the back and forth counters was one of the highlights of the match, which was a highlight reel on its own.

During the battle royal, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski stepped into the ring to show off some of his wrestling skills.

Because of Gronkowski's help, Mojo Rawley won the battle royal.

In addition, Jericho's leather scarf lit up and flashed as he walked around the ring.

Kevin Owens used Jericho's own finisher, The Walls of Jericho, against him.

Kevin Owens got a rope break by touching the rope with one finger.

During the women's elimination match, it took the combined strength of Charlotte, Bayley, and Sasha Banks to powerbomb and pin Nia Jax.

Bayley paid homage to "Macho Man" Randy Savage during her entrance. In addition, she also used Savage's patented flying elbow drop from the top rope.

With the odds stacked against her, Bayley came out on top to retain her Raw Women's Championship.

Kurt Angle Conducts The "You Suck" Chants

While the 2017 Hall of Fame was announced, Kurt Angle conducted the crowd as they chanted "you suck" during his entrance, which was all in the name of love.

Cesaro and Sheamus had matching attire for their entrance: tearaway tuxedo tops and kilts.

Hardy Boyz Added To Tag Team Championship Match

At the last minute, the New Day announced the Hardy Boyz as a surprise entrant in the Raw Tag Team Championship ladder match.

Jeff Hardy jumped from amazing heights onto Sheamus and Cesaro, laying on two ladders below.

In a welcoming surprise, the Hardys won the tag belts.

After John Cena and Nikki Bella beat the Miz and Maryse, Cena proposed to Bella--his longtime girlfriend--in the ring.

Triple H rode a motorcycle to the ring, with his wife, Stephanie, riding on the back.

Seth Rollins came to the ring all in gold, holding a torch.

In one of the more memorable moments of the Seth Rollins/Triple H match, Stephanie McMahon was bumped off the ring apron and sent through a table.

A crowd shot, during Bray Wyatt's entrance, showed everyone lighting up the arena with their cell phones.

Randy Orton walked to the ring with an animated snake leading the way below him.

During the Bray Wyatt/Randy Orton match, the arena went black, and a video of maggots lit up the mat.

It happened a second time with worms.

Then it happened a third time with roaches.

Wyatt did his classic spider-walk.

The fans were stunned when Orton won the match.

After their third official meeting, Brock Lesnar finally beat Goldberg and walked out the Universal Champion.

Undertaker's final entrance to a Wrestlemania match.

The crowd chanted, "Thank you, Taker" after he lost to Roman Reigns.

Undertaker left his coat and hat in the ring and took his final walk up the entrance ramp.
