Cities: Skylines Xbox One Release Date Revealed

By Patrick Faller on Apr 04, 2017 12:11 am

If you'd rather build cities with a controller than a keyboard, here's some good news: Cities: Skylines is making its console debut on Xbox One on April 21.

The SimCity-inspired city building and management game has become a much-loved title for more than a million players and a big success for publisher Paradox. It was the company's fastest-selling game ever when it launched in 2015, and now it is expanding beyond the PC, Mac, and Linux releases.

No Caption Provided

The Xbox One release of Cities: Skylines also includes the game's first DLC expansion, After Dark, which gives players access to new transportation options, nightlife, tourist attractions, and city services to accommodate your citizen's night time activities.

Cities: Skylines is available for pre-order now and will cost US $40 / £35 / AU $70. Subsequent DLC expansions Snowfall and Natural Disasters aren't included in the Xbox release.

Meanwhile, another DLC expansion for the game is on the way for PC. Mass Transit will bring even more transportation options to the game and offer news ways to get across town by land, sea, and air. There's no official release date yet, but you can get a preview by watching the announcement trailer here.

Overwatch Is Teasing Something For Next Week

By Oscar Dayus on Apr 04, 2017 12:01 am

Overwatch developer Blizzard is teasing a reveal for April 11. The official @PlayOverwatch account tweeted the below video today, April 3.

It is unclear what the Tweet is hinting at. One possibility could be a message projected on the screen seen in the video. The message reads, "King's Row uprising entering into record seven years ago. Security clearance required: confidential." The in-game map King's Row reportedly had aesthetic changes made in Overwatch's public test realm server alongside a recent update, though these were not noted in any update notes.

Blizzard has a history of teasing character reveals and in-game events. A bunch of teases appeared to hint the game's latest character would be Doomfist, though that hero ended up being Orisa.

In other Overwatch news, game director Jeff Kaplan has said the game could get a map editor one day. "We are extremely open-minded about releasing a map editor for Overwatch someday," he said. "But because Overwatch was made with a brand new engine, this is not a small task or one which can happen any time soon."

Continued support is partly why we love Overwatch here at GameSpot--we awarded it our Game of the Year for 2016.

Lego Hideo Kojima Proves Being A Batman Fan Pays Off

By Patrick Faller on Apr 03, 2017 10:18 pm

Hideo Kojima is looking a little different in a recent Twitter post; the iconic video game producer has been made into a Lego character after he tweeted about The Lego Batman Movie, out in theaters now.

Kojima was one of several people immortalized in Lego form by Warner Bros. in Japan. He had tweeted several times about The Lego Batman Movie and included it in his monthly film recommendations.

Now a confirmed Batman fan, Kojima is also famous for his work on several video game franchises, especially the Metal Gear series, which he created. In 2015 he left Konami, where he'd worked for 30 years, to found his own studio Kojima Productions.

Kojima has partnered with Sony on an upcoming PlayStation 4 game, Death Stranding, but its plot is still shrouded in mystery. Kojima says it will be an open-world action game that gives players a lot of freedom, with an online play "different...than anything we've seen before."

There is no official release date, although there are rumors it will come out in 2018 and could also be released on PC. For all the trailers and the latest news on Death Stranding check out our full coverage here.

If you're with Kojima and just can't get enough of The Lego Batman Movie, a Batman expansion for Lego Dimensions was released in February.

New Injustice 2 Gameplay Video Stars Catwoman, And She Fights Dirty

By Tamoor Hussain on Apr 03, 2017 09:00 pm

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a new gameplay video for Injustice 2, the fighting game starring DC's iconic cast of heroes and villains. It focuses on Selina Kyle, better known as Catwoman.

Selina looks to be rather quick on her feet, which is expected, as she's shown leaping around the stage clawing away at Harley Quinn. She also summons a feline companion to distract her opponents and puts her whip to good use by grabbing her enemy from a distance and flinging them around.

Catwoman also hops on her motorbike and uses her whip to drag Harley behind her, which looks very painful. See Catwoman in action in the video above. Warner Bros. has also included a bit about the role Selina plays in the upcoming fighting game's story.

"Consistently walking the line between hero and villain, Selina Kyle's pilfering past as Catwoman prevents Batman from ever placing his full trust in her. As the ashes of the Regime give rise to the sinister Society, the Caped Crusader must once again speculate where this thieving feline's loyalties lie."

We also recently got a look at Black Adam and Cheetah in the game, and learned about how Injustice 2's microtransactions will work. Injustice 2 launches for Xbox One and PS4 on May 16. You can see a roundup of all the confirmed characters so far here.

Why Agents Of Mayhem Feels Like Saints Row, And Could Be A Missed Opportunity

By Oscar Dayus on Apr 03, 2017 08:45 pm

For the entirety of my two hours playing Agents of Mayhem, I had one question on my mind: Why isn't this a Saints Row game? It's an open-world third-person shooter from Volition, the same studio behind all four of the outrageous games. It has a cartoony art style, a rude sense of humor, and a squad of misfit agents who aren't quite the Good Guys. Sound familiar?

It turns out Agents of Mayhem is considered part of the wider Saints Row universe, but Volition insists this is a new IP and a fresh start for the developer. "At this point we thought it was just time to explore another avenue, [and] get something else that we really wanted to get at out there," producer Kate Nelson told me. "So it was a similar direction for us in terms of tone and humor, because that's what we really like, and we want everybody laughing along in our games.

"We started with our 'special sauce' at Volition; we like to be known for the tone and humor that came across in a lot of the Saints Row games, so we wanted to have a game along those lines."

Much of Agents of Mayhem's aesthetic and tone takes inspiration from Saturday morning cartoons: it's reminiscent of Transformers, Power Rangers, and other animated shows I used to watch as a kid--our squad of anti-heroes even have their own cheesy, guitar-laden theme tune (skip to 1:30 in the video above).

"A lot of the initial concepts of the game came from '80s nostalgia," says Nelson. "Saturday morning cartoons, that kind of vibe. We like the idea of taking your action figures, throwing them together, and seeing what happens."

But this cartoon, as you'd expect from Volition, isn't for children. The game contains an arsenal of weapons, characters swear profusely, and talk of sensitive subjects such as sex and alcohol is frequent. It certainly earns its M for Mature rating.

The tone could have felt out of place--lines like "Those robots were weak ass" would feel incongruous and crass in most games, after all--but in the context of Agents of Mayhem's world, it works. Volition has built a world that feels cohesive not because it is a particularly great sandbox--in fact, Mayhem's future-Seoul setting mostly looked bland and felt repetitive--but because the cartoon style pervades every inch of the game. The writing, character art, anime-inspired cutscenes, ridiculous abilities, and oversized weapons add to the sense that you're in some secret adult version of Cartoon Network your parents never told you about.

In combat, enemies are dumb but plentiful, as they simply swarm straight toward you until you take out every single one. The twist comes from having a trio of heroes to switch between. At the start of each mission, I could choose to take into battle any three of the preview build's nine characters, each of which has their own special abilities and unique personalities. My favorite was Daisy, a Chicago skater who came equipped with a giant minigun and a chip on her shoulder against authority figures--which led to some entertaining conversations between the teammates.

Switching from one character to another--which causes your current body to dissolve into thin air and the next to drop into their place--is as simple as tapping right or left on the d-pad, lending combat a snappy pace. The strengths and weaknesses of each agent means that you'll need to keep changing in order to attack different sorts of enemies. Daisy, for example, is useful against swarms of weak soldiers thanks to her minigun and its zero-cooldown special ability. Meanwhile Oni--a former Yakuza hitman--is armed with a silenced pistol that's perfect for pinpoint headshots. The swapping mechanic is welcome: without it I fear combat would too often veer towards gratuitous chaos, but there's just about enough here--in combat and in their charismatic dialogue--to keep things fresh.

All this would make Agents of Mayhem the perfect multiplayer shooter. Multiple heroes strong or weak against certain types of enemy, each with their own distinctive personality and weapon set, each working well or not so well with other agents; even in the current build, you can unlock gun and character skins to show off your abilities.

Except there's no-one to show off to. Despite seemingly being perfectly suited to squad-based multiplayer in the same vein as Overwatch or Battleborn, Agents of Mayhem is single-player only.

Despite seemingly being perfectly suited to squad-based multiplayer, Agents of Mayhem is single-player only.

"We really wanted to explore that single-player experience," explains Nelson. "Having that big bad guy and having your team of heroes swapping in and out. The swap mechanic makes it feel like you are your own team. We love the idea of mixing and matching your own heroes, and each hero can actually be built in multiple different ways, because you can switch out their special abilities [and] you can change their passive abilities."

When I asked if multiplayer could be added to the game after its August 15 (August 18 in Europe) launch, Nelson replied, "We're always looking for future possibilities for features, but this game is a single-player game."

As a result, Agents of Mayhem felt like something of a missed opportunity. Short, quick multiplayer rounds where you swap heroes frequently--and witness them badmouthing your friends' characters--could have cultivated some unique and hilarious moments. Instead, we have what could be a somewhat unremarkable shooter that, while undoubtedly containing its fair share of wacky laughs and satisfying kills, doesn't look to be innovating sufficiently to set it apart from its own predecessors.

Batman: Arkham VR No Longer PS4-Exclusive, New Trailer Released

By Oscar Dayus on Apr 03, 2017 08:31 pm

Batman: Arkham VR, the first-person Dark Knight experience that was until now PSVR-exclusive, is coming to rival VR headsets Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The new versions will launch on April 25, a little over six months after the game launched on PlayStation 4.

"Bringing Batman to VR was a very rewarding experience for us," said Sefton Hill, creative director at Rocksteady. "The Dark Knight has always been an incredible character to work with due to his psychological depth, so it's really exciting to use this immersive medium to delve deeper into his psyche than ever before. We're thrilled that PC players can finally wear the cowl for themselves and take on the role of the world's greatest detective with the addition of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift versions."

To celebrate the news, Rocksteady has released a new trailer. Take a look for yourself below.

Publisher Warner Bros. has confirmed that the new versions will be compatible with both Oculus Touch and the Vive controllers. The game will also support standard gamepads on PC, including the Steam controller, Dualshock 4, and Xbox One controller.

Batman: Arkham VR was one of the PlayStation Store's most-downloaded games of 2016, only beaten to the top of the VR chart by Job Simulator. We enjoyed the virtual reality experience here at GameSpot: critic Tamoor Hussain awarded it a 7/10. For more, check out our full Batman: Arkham VR review.

Diego Maradona To Sue Konami

By Oscar Dayus on Apr 03, 2017 06:24 pm

[Update] Konami has released a statement in response to Maradona's claim. As reported by Kotaku, the Japanese company has said Maradona's likeness has been used properly.

"At this time, there have been news that in Winning Eleven 2017 (international title: PES 2017 Pro Evolution Soccer) there is one player that is being used without permission; however, our company is using [this player] appropriately, with the basis of the license within the contract."

[Original story] Legendary ex-footballer Diego Maradona has said he's suing PES 2017 publisher Konami for using his likeness without his permission.

In a post on his official Facebook page, the ex-Argentina and Barcelona star--considered by many to be the greatest footballer ever--said he "heard yesterday that the Japanese company Konami uses my image for its game PES 2017."

"My lawyer Matias Morla will initiate the corresponding legal actions," the statement continues, before concluding, "I hope this is not another scam."

Maradona's image is used in PES 2017's myClub mode, in which players work to build a dream team of both current and ex-pros. GameSpot has contacted Konami for a statement.

No Caption Provided

As a footballer, Maradona was considered the player of his generation, with a professional career spanning 21 years from 1976 to 1997. He twice broke the world record transfer fee, won countless trophies, and was deemed FIFA's Player of the Century in 2000.

He later went on to manage his home country in the 2010 World Cup, though he could not guide a strong Argentina team past the quarter-finals.

In other PES 2017 news, Data Pack 3.0 was recently released, introducing visual enhancements for over 100 players, eight classic Borussia Dortmund kits, a bunch of new boot designs, additional pitch-side hoardings, and the new Adidas ball that will be used in the 2016/2017 Champions League final.

We enjoyed the alternative ball-kicking game here at GameSpot; critic Nathan Ditum awarded it an 8/10. For more, check out our full PES 2017 review.

PS4-Exclusive Spider-Man Game Is Releasing In 2017, Says Marvel

By Tamoor Hussain on Apr 03, 2017 04:02 pm

Insomniac Games' PlayStation 4-exclusive Spider-Man title will be released in 2017, according to Ryan Penagos, vice president and executive editor of Marvel Digital Media.

In a livestream, which was captured by Reddit user GamingSince95, Penagos was talking about Marvel's recent video game output and said "there's even more on the horizon for 2017 like Spider-Man coming to PlayStation 4 and Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC."

Insomniac's Spider-Man title was announced during E3 2016 but as of yet Insomniac, Sony, and Marvel have not officially announced a release date for the game.

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have partnered for Spider-Man: Homecoming, a new movie which is set to hit cinemas in July. Insomniac's game isn't tied into this movie, but would no doubt benefit from being released this year. However, as previously stated, an official release date has not yet been specified for the game.

Spider-Man the game casts players as the iconic web-slinger in a completely original story. It takes place at a time when Peter Parker is "experienced" and "more masterful at fighting crime" in New York.

"From traversing with parkour and utilizing the environment, to new combat and blockbuster set pieces, it's Spider-Man unlike any you've played before," reads a line from the game's description.

Spider-Man, which is a working title for the PlayStation 4 game, is the first licensed game Insomniac has ever made. It is known most for the Ratchet and Clank series.

Agents Of Mayhem Release Date Announced, New Trailer Channels Knight Rider And A-Team

By Tamoor Hussain on Apr 03, 2017 03:16 pm

Volition, the developer behind the Saint's Row series, has released a new trailer for its next game, Agents of Mayhem. Publisher Deep Silver has also announced the game will released on August 15 in the US and August 18 in Europe.

The trailer provides a look at some over-the-top action, which looks to be in the same vein as Saint's Row: The Third and Saint's Row 4. The setup for all this is the game takes place in a distant future in which "the only hope for governments and global corporations ... are a group of corporately funded super agents called the Agents of Mayhem."

It seems the Agents of Mayhem are all about saving the world by destroying most of it. The trailer leans into the A-Team vibe by using the music from the classic TV series and there's also a nod to Knight Rider too.

Players take control of a squad of three agents, each of which have their own unique skills. All of the heroes aren't exactly "good," according to the initial report. Naturally, there will be an plenty of different guns, gadgets, and abilities to experiment with.

Agents of Mayhem will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is not in the works for Nintendo Switch. Asked about a possible Switch port on Twitter, Volition said, "There are no current plans to release on Switch."

Top 10 UK Sales Chart - Mass Effect: Andromeda Is Still No.1

By Oscar Dayus on Apr 03, 2017 02:56 pm

Mass Effect: Andromeda held on to top spot in the UK sales chart after its debut win last week. The entire top three is unchanged, according to sales monitor Chart-Track, with Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Lego Worlds holding their positions in No.2 and No.3, respectively.

The only new entry in the top 10 is Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 & 2.5 Remix, which debuts at No.4. Much of the remaining places are occupied by familiar faces, such as Grand Theft Auto V at No.5, FIFA 17 at No.7, and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare at No.10.

Mass Effect: Andromeda developer BioWare released a statement last week regarding the game's widely reported animation issues.

"We've received quite a bit of feedback, some of it positive and some of it critical," the company said. "That feedback is an important part of our ongoing support of the game, and we can't wait to share more of our immediate plans with you on Tuesday, April 4."

BioWare's statement goes on to say that developers are "working around the clock to gather information and plan out solutions to improve and build on Mass Effect: Andromeda."

In our review, critic Scott Butterworth said Andromeda "feels like a vision half-fulfilled."

"It contains a dizzying amount of content," he explained, "but the quality fluctuates wildly." Read more in our full Mass Effect: Andromeda review.

For more on the huge space adventure, check out our two-part documentary series, The Story of Mass Effect: Andromeda, or this week's episode of Reboot, which considers where Mass Effect can go next.

Get A DualShock 4 And PC Adapter For Only $40 (US Only)

By Eddie Makuch on Apr 03, 2017 11:41 am

US retailer Best Buy is currently running a very solid deal on an accessory bundle that comes with a DualShock 4 and a PC adapter for Sony's streaming service, PlayStation Now.

The "Starter Kit," as it's called, is going for $40 right now instead of its normal $70 price. $40 is less than the price of a DualShock 4 ($60), while the adapter itself normally goes for $25 on its own. So even if you don't have PlayStation Now, this is a good deal and will save you money if you decide to subscribe to the service one day.

No Caption Provided

Go to Best Buy's website here to learn more and place an order. As the store says, it is the exclusive seller of the Starter Kit. The deals site Slickdeals brought this offer to our attention.

In March, Sony announced that PlayStation 4 games are coming to PlayStation Now, adding to the huge library of PS3 games that is already available. These will be included as part of the standard subscription, not as some kind of premium add-on, and there's no indication--at least at this point--that the service's price ($20/month or $45/three months) will be going up.

In other news, Sony announced that PlayStation Now support on platforms other than PC and PS4 will be shut down in the coming months. It said at the time, "[W]e decided to shift our focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to further develop and improve the user experience on these two devices. This move puts us in the best position to grow the service even further."

Get A New Xbox One S With Battlefield 1 And Resident Evil 7 For $250 (US Only)

By Eddie Makuch on Apr 03, 2017 11:16 am

In the market for a new Xbox One? NewEgg has rolled out a new deal that you may want to consider.

The store's eBay page (via Slickdeals) is currently offering the 500 GB Battlefield 1 bundle with a copy of Resident Evil 7 for only $250. The bundle alone normally goes for $300, so this is a very good deal. You can place an order here on NewEgg's eBay store--the price shows up at checkout.

Shipping is free and orders placed today should arrive on or before April 6. One thing to be aware of is that this deal is only good for shoppers in the United States.

For more on the two games included in this bundle package, see GameSpot's reviews below:

10,000 Games Projects Have Been Funded On Kickstarter

By Eddie Makuch on Apr 03, 2017 10:53 am

More than 10,000 games projects--comprising video games and board games--have now been successfully funded on Kickstarter. As of April 3, 10,233 games projects have been funded. Across the entirety of Kickstarter, more than 122,200 projects have been funded.

Kickstarter launched in 2009. Since then, 2.46 million people have backed a games project, collectively putting in $613 million in funding, Kickstarter said in a blog post. Additionally, 1.45 million backers have supported more than one game.

Shenmue III
Shenmue III

The very first game project on Kickstarter launched the day after the service did back in 2009. It was for a new series of crossword puzzles, and it raised $2,265 from 163 backers.

A total of 76 games projects on Kickstarter have raised more than $1 million, which is one more than the technology category, which has 75 projects that have reached seven-figure funding.

Games is not the first category to cross 10,000 projects, as Art, Publishing, Film & Video, and Music are all above that mark according to Kickstarter's latest data.

The most-funded Kickstarter game is the board game Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5 ($12.4 million), while the most-funded video game project is Shenmue III ($6.3 million). Another notable Kickstarter story is the PC space game Star Citizen, which raised $2.1 million on the site, before shifting to its own site, where total pledges today stand at a whopping $145.9 million.

You can see a list of all the top Kickstarter game projects here.

Mass Effect: Andromeda Might Add A New Weapon That Only Shows Up In Cutscenes

By Eddie Makuch on Apr 03, 2017 10:22 am

BioWare has received a lot of feedback about Mass Effect: Andromeda--some good and some bad. One thing that players like a lot, it seems, is the X5 Ghost weapon. The only problem is this gun only appears in cutscenes and cannot actually be used. That could change, BioWare has revealed.

"It was an early idea that become a prop, but doesn't exist as a functional gun in the game," lead designer Ian Frazier said on Twitter in response to the tweet below. "That said, several folks seem interested in it, so we're investigating the possibility of turning the prop into a usable gun for a future patch."

Players have also called for the AAX5 weapon to be added to Andromeda, though it remains to be seen if this will indeed happen.

Last week, BioWare released a statement regarding the feedback to Andromeda, acknowledging the mixed reaction. The studio added that its developers are"working around the clock to gather information and plan out solutions to improve and build on Mass Effect: Andromeda."

BioWare says it will talk about its "immediate plans" for Andromeda on Tuesday, April 4.

Andromeda launched in March for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. GameSpot's Andromeda review scored it a 6/10, while you can see a roundup of scores from other outlets here.

"In many ways, Andromeda feels like a vision half-fulfilled. It contains a dizzying amount of content, but the quality fluctuates wildly," reviewer Scott Butterworth said in his critique.

What would you like to see from BioWare as it relates to updates for Andromeda? Let us know in the comments below!

By Eddie Makuch on Apr 03, 2017 09:53 am

Saints Row developer Volition's next game, Agents of Mayhem, is not in the works for Nintendo Switch. Asked about a possible Switch port on Twitter, the developer said, "There are no current plans to release on Switch."

The game is confirmed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A release date for Agents of Mayhem will be announced later today, April 3, while a new trailer is coming as well. Here's a teaser:

In Agents of Mayhem, you play as a squad of three agents, who each have their own unique skills. All of the heroes aren't exactly "good." There will be an assortment of guns, gadgets, and abilities, while it's also been confirmed that Agents of Mayhem is a single-player-only title.

Launched in 2016, Microsoft's Xbox Design Lab store is pretty cool. It lets you customize an Xbox One controller's color setup to your liking and even add a name or a message. There are 8 million potential combinations, Microsoft says. But the design-your-own controllers are only available in the US, Puerto Rico, and Canada. It looks like it's staying that way for the foreseeable future.

Asked on Twitter if the Xbox Design Lab was coming to the UK, Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg said fans there should get comfortable. Although Microsoft has heard the feedback about bringing the store to other markets, it's not going to happen, at least not yet.

"Not at this time unfortunately," he said. "[The] team has heard the feedback from fans who want in more markets."

Last year, Microsoft said the Xbox Design Lab would launch in other regions in 2017, though it remains to be seen if this is still the case.

Xbox Design Lab controllers are priced at $80 ($20 above the standard price), while adding a custom laser-engraving costs $10 extra, bringing the price up to $90.

You can choose the color of the controller's bumpers, triggers, D-pad, thumbsticks, ABXY buttons, and view and menu buttons, among other things. The personalized message can be up to 16 characters in length.

If you live in the US, you can go to the Xbox Design Lab website to make your own controller now.

In other Xbox Design Lab news, Greenberg recently shared the story of a person who proposed by personalizing a controller to say, "Mandy, marry me?" She said yes.

Microsoft is the only platform-holder with an official design-your-own controller program.

Peter Molyneux's Next Game Is "Very Different"

By Eddie Makuch on Apr 03, 2017 08:09 am

Peter Molyneux has teased that his next game is going to be "very different" than what he's made in the past. Speaking to Glixel, Molyneux spoke briefly about this game, called Legacy, and discussed how he's started coding again, which he says feels empowering because results can come past.

"I've been working on this game called Legacy, and I can--rather like the first game I really did, which was called Populous--just try an idea and see if it works," he said. "I was in the hotel this morning, I was having breakfast, I was coding Legacy, and I had an idea. Within an hour, I was actually playing with the thing."

Asked if he could say anything more about Legacy, Molyneux--who is known for hyping his games--said, "I think it would be a mistake to talk about it."

He added: "The only thing I think is wise to tell you is that it's very different. One of the things I am proud of is the number of different genres that I've attempted. At the moment, it's hard to peg what genre Legacy falls into."

Asked if Legacy is a mobile game, Molyneux suggested that nothing has been decided yet, though he did say the game is running on PC right now.

"More and more, I think it's better to be platform agnostic at the start," Molyneux said. "The first problem is to get the feel of it right. You do have to worry about the interface. You have to worry about the input method. At the moment, I'm focusing on the mouse, purely because it's the easiest for me."

The full interview is incredibly fascinating and touches on a number of other subjects; read it here.

Molyneux, an industry veteran known for franchises like Populous, Black & White, Theme Park, Dungeon Keeper, and Fable, left Microsoft in 2012. He now heads up the independent studio 22Cans, which has released two games so far: Godus and The Trail.

As for Microsoft's Fable series, its future seems to be in question. The newest entry, Fable Legends, was canceled, while developer Lionhead Studios is closed.

Phantom Dust Re-Release: Here's The First Screenshot

By Eddie Makuch on Apr 03, 2017 07:38 am

Microsoft has released the first screenshot from the upcoming Phantom Dust re-release for Xbox One and PC, not to be confused with the scuttled brand-new Phantom Dust.

Posted by Xbox boss Phil Spencer on Twitter (via Gematsu), the image shows that the game is running at 30 FPS. Spencer captioned the image, "Having fun today." He later clarified that the image was captured on Xbox One, not Project Scorpio. "Thought this was a nice shot," he said.

As Microsoft Studios GM Shannon Loftis explained at E3 2016 where the game was announced, the Phantom Dust re-release uses assets from the 2004 original. Some "key" parts of the game have been updated, Loftis said, while there is now Xbox Live support for multiplayer.

As for a release date, this hasn't been announced yet, but Spencer said previously that the game "should ship before E3." E3 2017 officially runs June 13-15, though the event actually begins sooner, as Microsoft and Bethesda both have briefings lined up for June 11.

The Phantom Dust re-release is an Xbox Play Anywhere title. That means when it buy it digitally on Xbox One or PC, you can play it on the other system at no extra cost. Additionally, all progress and achievements move between platforms.

A sort of hybrid of card games and shooters, Phantom Dust earned an 8.5 in GameSpot's review.

Nintendo Switch Back In Stock At Australian Retailers

By Eddie Makuch on Apr 03, 2017 07:16 am

Good news today for those in Australia looking for a Nintendo Switch. The hard-to-find console is back in stock across three major stores in the country, including EB Games, JB Hi-Fi, and Target.

As IB Times (via MCV Pacific) mentions, this is the Switch's first resupply in Australia following the hybrid console's launch on March 3. By comparison, it reportedly took months for the Wii U to be restocked for the first time back in 2012.

The Nintendo Switch costs AU $469 and is offered in two versions: grey and neon. EB Games, JB Hi-Fi, and Target have the systems in stock in-store and online; here are links to the Switch pages:

The stores are also selling extra sets of Joy-con controllers, the Pro controller, and other accessories, as well as games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and 1-2-Switch.

Project Scorpio News Rumored For This Week

By Eddie Makuch on Apr 03, 2017 06:48 am

With Project Scorpio scheduled to launch this holiday, there are still many unanswered questions about the console. Now, rumor has it that Microsoft may be gearing up to share some news--and very soon.

Tweets from Windows Central editor Jez Corden and Shinobi suggest that Microsoft may announce more details on the console's specs this week, while The Inner Circle says this might happen on Thursday, April 6, via Digital Foundry. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has weighed in as well (via NeoGAF).

Spencer himself responded to a tweet about a Scorpio reveal. He didn't give much away, but said he is happy with how support is coming together from first- and third-party developers. "You'll hear more soon. Sorry for the wait," he said.

Whenever the Scorpio news comes, you can be sure that we'll bring you all the details.

Project Scorpio will surely be a part of Microsoft's E3 2017 briefing in June, but this isn't the first time we've heard about a pre-E3 reveal. Microsoft may be planning to reveal some of the key details ahead of the show so it can focus more on games at the event, as Spencer said he wants to do.

Project Scorpio works with all Xbox One games and supports the controllers and other peripherals that you may already own. It boasts 6 teraflops of performance, 8 CPU cores, and 320GB/s memory bandwidth, which makes it the most powerful console ever made, according to Microsoft.

Keep checking back for more on Project Scorpio.

A Console With Upgradeable Components Is "A Stretch," Xbox Boss Says

By Eddie Makuch on Apr 03, 2017 05:55 am

Before Project Scorpio was officially announced, one of the ideas floating around was that you could upgrade it like a PC, incrementally increasing its power with new components. Xbox boss Phil Spencer quickly came forward to say you won't be using a screwdriver to open the console and change its components. Now, with Project Scorpio due out later this year, Spencer has doubled down on that.

No Caption Provided

Asked on Twitter about upgradeable components for consoles, Spencer said this is "a stretch."

"The idea that users will open up a console and change compute components inside seems like a stretch to me," he said.

Project Scorpio, with its 6 teraflops of performance, 8 CPU cores, and 320GB/s memory bandwidth, is the most powerful console ever made, according to Microsoft.

Back in March 2016, before Project Scorpio was announced, Spencer said there is "something special" about buying a console and knowing that it works without extra effort.

"Am I going to break open my console and start upgrading individual pieces of my console? That's not our plan," he said. "There is something special about what happens with a console. You buy an appliance-like device; you plug it into your TV; it works when you plug it in. It's not like I'm going to ship a screwdriver set with every console that comes out."

Project Scorpio, or whatever Microsoft decides to call the console, will launch this holiday. There are still lots of unanswered questions about it, including its price. We only know it will be more expensive than the Xbox One, which starts at $300. The console plays all Xbox One games and works with the controllers and other peripherals you may already own.

The console is surely going to play a part in Microsoft's E3 2017 briefing in June, but Spencer has teased that Microsoft may announce more details about the console ahead of that.

Weekly Recap: Outcast: Second Contact, Naughty Dog, Persona 5, And Fire Emblem Heroes

By Simon Diamond Cramer on Apr 03, 2017 05:23 am

OUTCAST: SECOND CONTACT GAMEPLAY VIDEO RELEASED

Bigben Interactive has released a gameplay trailer for Outcast: Second Contact, its remake of the classic 1999 sci-fi RPG Outcast. It preserves much of the Mass Effect-meets-Indiana Jones flavor of the original - hardly a surprise, given that many of its developers worked on the original.

Watch the video below:

Outcast: Second Contact will be released in Autumn of 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

GAME INFORMER TALKS TO NAUGHTY DOG PRESIDENT ABOUT NEXT STEPS

No Caption Provided

Game Informer sat down with Naughty Dog's president Evan Wells for an interview about Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, the challenges of expanding a small studio, and the early stages of development for The Last Of Us: Part II.

The recent retirement of longtime co-president Christophe Balestra has created some shakeup, but despite growing pains, Wells remains hopeful about the studio's direction.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and The Last Of Us: Part II will both be released for PS4. Release dates have not yet been announced.

PERSONA 5 GOES ANTISOCIAL

No Caption Provided

So much for Social Links.

Developer Altus has announced that Persona 5 will disable the PS4's photo- and video-sharing functionality. The move is a conscious decision to make players focus less on sharing their progress and more on experiencing the game. "This being a Japanese title with solely a single-playthrough story means Japan is very wary about it," said an Altus representative.

That hasn't stopped determined players, who took to Twitter with oddly angled photos of their screens taken on their phones. Necessity might not be the mother of invention, but frustration certainly is.

Persona 5 was released in Japan on September 16, 2016 for PS3 and PS4. Its worldwide release date is April 4, 2017.

DEATH COMES TO FIRE EMBLEM HEROES

No Caption Provided

In its upcoming update for Fire Emblem Heroes, Nintendo has announced a return to the franchise's roots with the introduction of permadeath. This feature will be limited to select maps, but will be sure to give longtime fans of the series the kind of nail-biting experience they expect.

Aside from the optional anxiety, the update also includes dramatically reduced stamina requirements for most actions, which means players can spend less time waiting and more time...well...playing.
