Deadpool 2: Frontrunner To Play Cable Revealed

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 23, 2017 12:13 am

After the first trailer for Deadpool 2 arrived earlier this month, we've now learned who might be in the running to play one of the film's main characters, Cable. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar-nominated actor Michael Shannon is currently the frontrunner to play the part.

Other actors are reportedly on the shortlist for the part, including Stranger Things actor David Harbour. According to THR's sources, Kyle Chandler (Manchester by the Sea, Bloodline), whose name popped up for the part last summer, was "never in contention for the role."

Shannon, who received Oscar nominations for Revolutionary Road and Noctural Animals, is no stranger to superhero movies, as he played General Zod in the Superman movie Man of Steel.

Potentially impacting Shannon's ability to play Cable is scheduling, as he is confirmed for the independent movie What They Had, which begins shooting this spring. Deadpool 2, on the other hand, is lined up to begin filming this summer.

In addition to Cable, Deadpool 2 will feature the character Domino, who will be played by Atlanta star Zazie Beetz.

Deadpool 2 is set to be directed by John Wick's David Leitch. He replaces the first film's director, Tim Miller, who dropped out over reported creative differences with Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds.

No release date has been set for Deadpool 2.

Destiny's New Age Of Triumph Armor, Ornaments, And Updated Weapons Shown Off

By Chris Pereira on Mar 23, 2017 12:10 am

Ahead of the Age of Triumph update's release next week, Bungie today hosted the final of three streams dedicated to Destiny's new additions. Today's broadcast focused on Sandbox changes and new items coming in the update.

On the armor front, Bungie showed off new sets for each of the Raids (which are being brought back in Age of Triumph). This includes a Vault of Glass set that has a particularly "Vexified" look, as well as robot-esque legs for Warlocks. There are also particularly cool Crota's End and King's Fall sets that react to you taking damage--energized areas of the armor lose color when your health is low and then return to their original state as it's restored. Additionally, completing Age of Triumph's questline will allow you to get your hands on new, Age of Triumph-specific armor sets.

You can see concept art and in-game images of all of these in the gallery above. We'll pass along official images if and when Bungie shares them.

On the weapon side, Bungie is introducing new, Adept versions of certain weapons, with many of them being Exotics. These will include elemental versions of the primary weapons from both King's Fall and Wrath of the Machine. New Ornaments include those for Dragon's Breath, Suros, Lord of Wolves, No Land Beyond, and Touch of Malice.

In terms of balance, auto rifles receive a buff, while sidearms are being tweaked. When you die, you'll now respawn with only a single full magazine of sidearm ammo but nothing more. And as with heavy ammo crates, opening a special ammo crate will now automatically refill your magazine. A specific weapon change targets No Land Beyond, which now functions more like a sniper rifle with added flinch when taking damage.

Finally, the effect from Memory of Skorri now lasts for one minute when you get a kill with your Super full, which should allow you to keep it active most of the time in PvE and PvP (except for Trials).

Full patch notes for update 2.6.0 are coming next Tuesday, March 28, at 10 AM PT, when the update itself will be deployed. Bungie has described this as the final live event for Destiny as it leads into the launch of Destiny's sequel later this year. You can read more about Age of Triumph in our coverage of the previous livestreams, which centered around updated raids and activities.

Ian McKellen To Play Gandalf Again, But Not In A Movie

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 22, 2017 11:51 pm

Actor Ian McKellen is not finished playing the wise wizard Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings just yet. It was announced this week that McKellen will reprise one of his most famous roles during a nine-night stage production at London's Park Theatre for a one-man show called Shakespeare, Tolkien, Others & You. He will perform as characters from his 50-year history in the entertainment business.

McKellen said he's doing the performance to help raise money to help the Park Theatre stay open. In a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter), McKellen said the establishment does not receive any subsidies for the group's core costs and relies on donations for its continued operations. The theatre needs to take in around £250,000 ($311,000) "just to keep the doors open," McKellen said.

Shakespeare, Tolkien, Others & You runs July 3-9. In addition to performing as some of his movie and stage roles, McKellen will discuss his work with other actors and directors, while the audience will get to ask questions and even come up on stage to perform alongside the veteran actor. Attendees will also get to see "never-before-seen" posters, paintings, and photographs from throughout McKellen's career, with some of them available to buy.

Tickets start at £85 (ticket price £25; suggested donation £60) and go up from there. You can pay more for a special package that includes a meet-and-greet and photo opportunity with McKellen. Another package includes a bottle of Vranec wine with a label made specifically for the show.

There will be 10 £10 seats available for each performance on the day of the show, released on a first-come, first-served basis. You can learn more about the production at the Park Theatre's website.

McKellen played Gandalf in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings series, reprising the role for Jackson's Hobbit prequel series. He has earned two Oscar nominations, first for Best Actor in 1998's Gods and Monsters and the second for Best Supporting Actor for The Fellowship of the Ring.

As mentioned, he is a veteran of the stage and screen. Some of his other famous roles include the Shakespeare characters Macbeth and Iago, which he portrayed during his time with the Royal Shakespeare Company. McKellen also portrayed Magneto in the X-Men series and most recently played Cogsworth in Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast.

Nintendo Is Fixing The Switch's Left Joy-Con Connection Issues

By Patrick Faller on Mar 22, 2017 11:17 pm

If your Nintendo Switch's left Joy-Con de-syncs when you're playing with it wirelessly, there's new hope for a solution. There are reports the company is fixing the hardware issue.

Even before the Switch's launch on March 3, several media outlets reported that the left Joy-Con had stopped working for them when playing in docked mode. Many players reported the same problem, but Nintendo said it was not facing any "widespread technical problems" with the Switch.

It happened to CNET writer Sean Hollister, who called Nintendo to report the connection issue (not to mention several instances of Link dying as result). To his surprise, he got right through to a support agent even though it was 6:00 PM on a Saturday.

"She spent only a few minutes verifying that yes, I did indeed have wireless issues (and not merely some gunk caught in the gap around the analog stick) and verifying my serial numbers before agreeing to repair my controller for free," he wrote.

Hollister sent his left Joy-Con to Nintendo and had it back in little over a week. It now works perfectly, and he says he's uncovered the fix. He opened up the Joy-Con and discovered Nintendo has put a little black square of foam in the lower-right corner.

He did some research and determined that foam is either shielding the Joy-Con's from interference, or keeping other parts of the Joy-Con from touching the antenna.

"I even tried removing the foam, and sure enough: The controller stops working properly when it's not there. Seems like an open-and-shut case," wrote Hollister.

Hollister also bought a new $50 Joy-Con from Amazon to see if it had issues too. He said it works perfectly, despite not having a foam square on top of the antenna.

"Maybe Nintendo has already modified its manufacturing process, and that the differently labeled Joy-Cons--the Amazon batch--rolling off the assembly line don't have the de-sync issue," he speculated.

Nintendo has a section on their support page about what to do if your Joy-Con stops responding, saying interference from physical objects or other wireless devices could stop your controller from working. It also recommends not using a microwave anywhere near your Joy-Con (no, seriously).

Civilization 6's Other New Civ Revealed

By Chris Pereira on Mar 22, 2017 10:20 pm

The second of two new upcoming civs for Civilization VI has been revealed, and it's the Greek kingdom of Macedon.

Led by Alexander the Great, Macedon features the Hellenistic Fusion ability, which provides a bonus after conquering a city. This bonus varies depending on the type of districts that city has built. Alexander himself provides a bonus that reduces the amount of war weariness Macedon suffers, allowing it to engage in long-term warfare with fewer penalties.

Macedon's unique unit is the Hypaspist, which replaces the Swordsman. They gain an edge when attacking districts and receive more support bonuses than standard units. Alexander also grants an additional unique unit, the Hetairoi, which take the place of the Horseman and starts out with a free promotion.

The Basilikoi Paides is Macedon's unique building. It provides Science when you build a non-civilian unit in the city and offers bonuses when building certain military units.

Developer Firaxis revealed another new civ, Persia, just yesterday. We still don't know the specifics of how or when they'll be released, but Deluxe Edition owners will definitely be receiving Persia for free. The two will apparently be sold as part of the Double Civilization & Scenario Pack that's on the way alongside the Spring update.

Mass Effect: Andromeda Update Arrives, As BioWare Considers Animation Improvements

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 22, 2017 09:43 pm

A new patch for Mass Effect: Andromeda has arrived, fixing a number of single-player and multiplayer issues. Additionally, BioWare has suggested that improvements might be on the way for the game's much-discussed facial animations that some believe leave much to be desired.

As outlined in a BioWare blog post, patch 1.04 fixes a serious-sounding issue in single-player where players could not land on Ark Natanus. It also corrects a problem when Andromeda would boot to a black screen. In terms of multiplayer fixes, the update addresses an issue where players would hear audio from a different character instead of their own.

An Early Access Patch is also now available for people playing the 10-hour trial of the game available for EA/Origin Access subscribers on Xbox One and PC. This patch contains "overall performance improvements," as well as fixes for things like collision and audio problems.

This patch also delivers improvements to "many cinematics, conversations, and other character interactions," though this may not be for the much-discussed facial animations. When asked about the current state of Andromeda's facial animations, lead designer Ian Frazier said on Twitter (via Eurogamer), "We're looking at patching lots of issues and want to strongly support the game moving forward. I can't say more just yet."

Frazier also said that BioWare is currently "evaluating various options" for making Andromeda's character creator better, presumably in terms of more customization options.

Andromeda officially launched on March 21 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. GameSpot's review scored the game a 6/10; you can see a roundup of scores from other outlets here.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands Update Out Very Soon, Here's What It Does And When It Drops

By Oscar Dayus on Mar 22, 2017 09:16 pm

Ghost Recon: Wildlands' second big patch is coming very soon--in fact, if you're on PC, it's out already, while PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners will have to wait until the morning of March 23.

The biggest changes include the ability to turn radios off by default, whilst you can also choose the type of vehicle that spawns when you use the Drop Vehicle skill. On PC, left-handed players should be more adequately catered for too, as you can now remap the Home, End, Insert, Delete, Page Up, and Page Down keys.

Publisher Ubisoft is quick to note that in order to continue playing in co-op, you and your friends will all need to be running the same version of the game.

This patch, which comes in at around 3 GB on consoles and up to 5 GB on PC, is the second major update since Wildlands' March 7 launch. The first fixed a load of bugs--as does this second one, in fact, and you can see all its improvements below, via Ubisoft.

Wildlands launched a couple of weeks ago to a mixed critical reception. In our Ghost Recon: Wildlands review, critic Miguel Concepcion called the game "a middlingly safe tactical shooter and a slightly wasted opportunity."

Ghost Recon: Wildlands Title Update 2 Patch Notes

    • Rebel Radio explosion not synchronizing
    • Sniper scope glare effect not synchronizing
    • Players seen running beside VHC/bike they should be sitting in
    • Suppressor not synchronizing when removed from a vehicle's shooting position

Rocket League Adds A Free Mode Today That Totally Changes The Game

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 22, 2017 08:59 pm

Psyonix's soccer-with-cars game Rocket League grows today with the launch of a new update that adds the cool-looking Dropshot mode that basically reinvents the game. Specifically, the free update lands at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET / 10 PM GMT, Psyonix said on Twitter.

This is Rocket League's latest non-traditional mode, following Hoops (a spin on basketball) and Rumble, which gives you superpowers. There is also a mutator available that lets you play with a hockey puck instead of a ball, with the physics changing accordingly.

Dropshot sounds like craziest of the bunch so far, at least in terms of setup. As we reported when the mode was announced earlier this month, matches take place in a hexagonal arena that's divided down the middle and overlaid with a grid of smaller hexagons. There are no fixed goals or scoring areas; instead, players must break through the floor on their opponents' half of the field by knocking the ball downward.

You can read GameSpot's previous coverage and watch the video above to learn more about how Dropshot works.

Rocket League's new update today also adds Easter-themed items, including an Easter Egg Antenna, Easter Basket Topper, and the Bunny Ears Topper. These items will be distributed randomly as post-game drops for all online playlists, but only until April 17.

Psyonix also confirmed that the game's third competitive season ends today at 2:30 PM PT / 5:30 PM ET / 9:30 PM GMT, immediately preceding the launch of the update.

In other news, betting site Unikrn announced this week that people in Australia can bet real money on competitive Rocket League matches, though Psyonix later spoke out against any betting on its game.

Watch First Trailer For Movie Adaptation Of Classic Manga Series Death Note

By Dan Auty on Mar 22, 2017 08:44 pm

The first trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of the hugely popular manga series Death Note has been released. The movie is produced by Netflix and hits the streaming service in August. Watch the trailer below:

Death Note is directed by Adam Wingard, who previously helmed cult hits You're Next and The Guest, as well as last year's horror sequel Blair Witch. Production on the film moved from Warner to Netflix last year, following the former's decision to halt its development.

The movie tells the story of a high school student named Light, who comes into possession of a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone whose name he writes into it. Light sets out to rid the world of evil but finds himself relentlessly pursued by a legendary police detective.

It stars Nat Wolff, best known for the hit teen drama The Fault in our Stars, plus Keith Stanfield, Paul Nakauchi, and Shea Whigham. Willem Dafoe will perform the voice of Ryuk the Shinigami, the demonic creature who puts the story into motion.

Death Note ran for 108 issues between 2003 and 2006. These were subsequently collected into 12 graphic novels, which to date have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. There have also been three live-action Japanese films, an anime series, and a number of video games for the Nintendo DS, published by Konami.

Pokemon Go's Next Event Begins Today

By Chris Pereira on Mar 22, 2017 08:42 pm

A new, Water-type Pokemon-focused event kicks off worldwide today in Pokemon Go.

During the week-long Water Festival event, you'll have a better shot at finding Squirtle, Totodile, and Magikarp in the wild, as well as their respective evolutions. If you venture somewhere that Water types normally show up, you'll have a "greater chance" at coming across some of Johto's Water-type Pokemon, including Lapras.

This event kicks off today at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET / 8 PM GMT. It will wrap up at the same time next Wednesday, March 29.

Additionally, today you'll find a new item in the wardrobe, which you'll likely either love or hate: a Magikarp hat.

This event comes a day after a relatively minor update to the iOS and Android versions arrived. It didn't introduce any new features, though it did change the rewards offered for visiting a PokeStop every day for a full week.

The Rock Solves Crimes And Blows Things Up In New Baywatch Trailer

By Dan Auty on Mar 22, 2017 07:57 pm

A new trailer for the upcoming big screen reboot of Baywatch has landed. The action-comedy stars Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Zac Efron, and hits theaters in May. Check the new trailer out below:

Baywatch is directed by Horrible Bosses' Seth Gordon and also stars Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Priyanka Chopra, and Ilfenesh Hadera, with a cameo expected from David Hasselhoff, the star and producer of the original TV show. Last year, Johnson posted a picture of him and Hasselhoff on set together.

In a recent interview with EW, Gordon spoke about the way the new movie would reference the show."The history of the show is to showcase beauty," he said. "There's a beat where one of the characters sees someone running and asks, 'Is she running in slo-mo? And why is she wet but not that wet?' Stuff like that shows that we are in on the joke."

The original Baywatch ran from 1989 to 1999, with a spinoff, Baywatch Hawaii, airing until 2001. The main show was a huge international hit, and had clocked up a total of 242 episodes by the time it was cancelled.

Baywatch hits theaters on May 26, 2017. Check out the earlier trailers here and here.

Ghostbusters Producer Says The Reboot "Cost Too Much"

By Dan Auty on Mar 22, 2017 06:55 pm

Last year's Ghostbusters reboot was not the hit that its makers hoped it would be. Now producer Ivan Reitman, who also directed the original movie, has spoken about his reaction to the film's disappointing commercial performance.

No Caption Provided

"We certainly would've loved to have a larger hit," he told io9. "But considering the last film was almost 30 years ago, it really did extremely well. I think the film cost too much, frankly, and that's the real issue.

"I personally had other points of view in terms of where the film should go and it was kind of a continuous conversation with Paul [Feig, director] about that. But Paul was the filmmaker on this one and he's a very talented director. I wanted to give him enough room to do the film he thought it should be."

However, Reitman explained that although another live-action movie is unlikely for some time, the franchise was far from dead, with an animated film currently in development.

"We jumped into an animated film," he said. "I want to bring all these stories together as a universe that makes sense within itself. Part of my job right now is to do that."

Ghostbusters made $229 million at the worldwide box office. Last year, it was estimated that it would need to make at least $300 million for Sony to break even. Following the movie's release, Feig spoke about the chances of a sequel with the same cast happening.

"If the studio was knocking on the door to do another one, I'd have to think about it," he said. "We had so much fun, and I'd love to work with that team again. But I would be very surprised."

This week has also seen the surprise release of a virtual reality game for the PSVR called Ghostbusters: Now Hiring. Reitman was heavily involved with its development, with the game's ghost is voiced by American comedian and Agents of SHIELD star Patton Oswalt. Read more about it here.

Ghostbusters PSVR Game Launches Unexpectedly, Check Out First Trailer Here

By Oscar Dayus on Mar 22, 2017 05:38 pm

Without warning, a new Ghostbusters game has launched for PSVR. Called Ghostbusters: Now Hiring, the virtual reality title places you in the shoes of a new poltergeist-catching recruit.

It's an episodic series that opens with an entry called Firehouse. Jake Zim, senior vice president of VR at Sony Pictures (one of the studios behind the 2016 Ghostbusters film), told io9 that the plan was to "put out Chapter 1, [see] if people like it and see what they want, then we can add Chapter 2 and keep going." Take a look at the launch trailer below.

Franchise co-creator Ivan Reitman, who also directed the original 1984 movie, was heavily involved in the project, according to io9--one of his biggest suggestions was the addition of the Ghostbusters Icon Ghost as the player's guide. In Now Hiring, the ghost is voiced by American comedian and Agents of SHIELD star Patton Oswalt.

Ghostbusters: Now Hiring - Firehouse is out now on the PlayStation Store in the US, available for $7, though it doesn't seem to be available yet in the UK or Australia.

The last console Ghostbusters game was released last year to negative reviews. Simply called Ghostbusters, it was a tie-in to the 2016 reboot movie of the same name. Reitman has since said there are "many" more Ghostbusters movies in development, though a direct sequel to the 2016 film is unlikely to happen.

This article has been corrected to reflect the most recent Ghostbusters game being the 2016 video game.

As well as implementing some changes for all players, the patch "increases" Dark Souls 3's frame rate on PS4 Pro. Ghost In The Shell: Watch The First 5 Minutes

By Dan Auty on Mar 22, 2017 03:46 pm

The sci-fi thriller Ghost In The Shell hits theaters next week, but if you can't wait until then, Paramount has posted the first five minutes of the movie online, with an introduction from star Scarlett Johansson. Check it below:

Ghost In The Shell stars Johansson as The Major, a cyborg cop who fights cyber-terrorism in a futuristic city. It's based on the classic anime franchise.

There has been plenty of other promotional activity over the past few weeks. Yesterday this action-packed clip was released, and there have been several recent making-of featurettes too, including a look at the movie's visual style and another focusing on the Section 9 taskforce.

In a recent interview with Indiewire, Johansson discussed the film's visual design. "Rupert [Sanders, director] described the film to me as cities built on cities and the abundance of waste," she said. "It's a kind of collage of cultures and it's sort of identity-less. [There's] a whole melange of different kinds of textures and colors--it's really rich. The depth of this movie is amazing. I find that the sets are so incredibly detailed."

Ghost In The Shell also stars Pilou Asbæk, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, and Michael Pitt. It hits theaters on March 30.

Rocket League Dev Speaks Out Against Real-Money Betting Announcement

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 22, 2017 06:56 am

[UPDATE] Unikrn CEO Rahul Sood told GameSpot in an email, "We are not in any way associated with the publishers of Rocket League. However, we love the game, and like other titles on our sportsbook, we create odds and content on the pro matches and their top tier tournaments."

The original story is below.

Earlier today, Unikrn, a platform that lets you bet real money on competitive gaming matches, announced that Psyonix's Rocket League was joining its lineup in Australia.

Now, Psyonix itself has responded to the news, saying it does not support betting on the company's hit soccer-with-cars game. Psyonix VP of Publishing Jeremy Dunham told GameSpot, "Psyonix is not affiliated with Unikrn, nor do we support or endorse online betting for our game."

No Caption Provided

Unikrn said in its announcement today that Rocket League was approved by regulators in Australia to have the game available for real-money betting in the platform's sportsbook in that country. Australia and the UK are the two regions worldwide that offer real-money gaming betting through Unikrn, though the company made no announcement about the UK for Rocket League.

GameSpot has followed up with Unikrn in an attempt to get more details about this situation.

Unikrn also offers odds on big-name games like Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch, and League of Legends, among others.

In other news about Rocket League, the game's next big update comes out tomorrow, introducing the wicked cool-looking Dropshot mode that completely changes the way the game is played. Additionally, Psyonix recently revealed that the game has sold 10.5 million copies and told fans not to expect a full sequel anytime soon.

Mass Effect: Andromeda Microtransaction Pricing Revealed

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 22, 2017 05:05 am

Like many other AAA games, BioWare's just-released Mass Effect: Andromeda offers microtransactions for its multiplayer mode. Now that the game is available in the wild, pricing for its virtual currency, called Points, has emerged on digital storefronts such as the Xbox Store and the PlayStation Store.

Points can be spent on new multiplayer packs, which come with cosmetic items. Alternatively, multiplayer packs can be acquired through normal gameplay, so the microtransactions are more of a means to unlock the items more quickly.

Andromeda's Points are offered in bundles, starting with 500 for $5 and running up to 12,000 for $100. As always, EA/Origin Access subscribers on Xbox One and PC can save 10 percent on the prices.

Mass Effect: Andromeda Microtransaction Pricing:

  • 500 Points -- $5
  • 1,050 Points -- $10
  • 2,150 Points -- $20
  • 3,250 Points -- $30
  • 5,750 Points -- $50
  • 12,000 Points -- $100

Andromeda launches today on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. GameSpot's review scored the spacefaring RPG a 6/10.

Fallout 4 VR Coming To E3 2017, Will "Blow Your Mind"

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 22, 2017 04:45 am

Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 4's virtual reality version will be playable on the show floor at E3 this year, which, for the first time ever, is open to the public.

Speaking to Hip Hop Gamer (via GameRant), Bethesda's Pete Hines confirmed this and also provided a status update on the game, which was officially announced at E3 2016 (alongside a VR version of Doom). Although Hines himself doesn't play VR games often due to motion sickness, he has heard encouraging things from game director Todd Howard.

Hines said Howard told him that, "Fallout 4 VR is the most incredible thing you've ever seen in your life. You can't even imagine what it's like, playing in VR and how realistic it looks and everywhere you turn your head. It is going to blow your mind. It is the craziest thing you've ever seen."

Fallout 4 for VR will be released in 2017 for PC on HTC Vive, though a specific date has yet to be announced. It also remains to be seen if the game will be playable on other VR headsets such as PlayStation VR or Oculus Rift.

Also in the interview, Hines said he's optimistic that VR will grow in popularity, though he does not foresee it ever completely taking over and replacing traditional gaming.

"I personally don't believe it's ever going to be a thing where, 'Oh I don't play other things; I only play on VR,'" he said.

Hines went on to say that when he plays games at home, his wife likes to watch. If he has "some damned headset" on to play a VR game and asks his wife to watch, he said she might say, "'What? No.'"

While Hines said he has no doubt that VR will "grow and expand" in popularity and prominence, he doesn't like the idea of putting on a VR helmet and "shut[ting] everybody else out."

Bethesda's E3 2017 briefing takes place the evening of Sunday, June 11, following Microsoft's presentation earlier in the day.

Stranger Things Actor Stars In This Domino's Pizza Ad That Riffs On A Famous '80s Movie

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 22, 2017 04:04 am

Domino's Pizza has recruited Stranger Things actor Joe Keery for a new commercial that riffs on the '80s movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. In the new spot, titled "Home For Pizza," Keery makes a mad dash home just as Matthew Broderick did to avoid getting caught playing hooky. Keery's quest is to make it home in time to meet the delivery person (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Keery sprints through a neighborhood, vaulting over shrubbery and even snagging a drink from a neighbor and stopping to chat with bikini-wearing sunbathers, just like Broderick did in the movie. Actor Alan Ruck, who played Bueller's friend Cameron in the movie, has a cameo in this ad--and of course, he's wearing his Detroit Red Wings jersey. For comparison, you can watch the race home scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off here on YouTube.

This new Domino's ad promotes the pizza company's tracking service that gives you updates on the status of your pie as it makes its way from the oven to your home. A 15-second version of this trailer will air on TV.

It's not the only commercial that Domino's created starring Keery and riffing on Ferris Bueller's Day Off. A second one (below) takes on Broderick's opening, fourth-wall-breaking monologue from the film, but again, with a pizza theme.

In other news about Domino's, the company is letting some people order pizza with special shoes.

As for Stranger Things, which is set in the '80s, the show returns for a second season on Halloween this year. The first trailer was released during Super Bowl LI earlier this month and can be seen here.

Diablo 3 Patch Notes Detail Everything New In Today's 2.5.0 Update

By Chris Pereira on Mar 22, 2017 03:52 am

A major update has arrived for Diablo III on all platforms today, bringing with it a large number of changes and some new features.

The video above provides an overview of patch 2.5.0's main additions, which include the Armory feature announced at BlizzCon last year. This lets you store up to five different builds for each of your characters, allowing you to easily swap between sets of gear, skills, gems, and runes. It may sound like a relatively minor thing, but it's a really exciting addition for those who like to mix up their play style without going through the tedious process of memorizing and manually swapping out all of these things.

Crafting materials (such as Arcane Dust or Forgotten Souls) no longer take up inventory space, as they've been moved to their own area. Any materials you already have will be sent here automatically, freeing up your personal inventory and bank space. When picking up these types of items, you'll now see a floating message above your head that helps to keep you informed about what you've obtained.

High-end players have a new type of item to track down. Primal Ancients are very rare items that are guaranteed to have perfect Ancient-level stats on their affixes, as well as the maximum number of sockets possible for the item. You'll only be able to find them after you've reached Greater Rift 70 solo with one of the characters on your account. Once you've done so, any you find will be for the class you're playing when the item drops.

Adventure mode sees some changes, as certain tilesets will now appear less often in Greater Rifts. Additionally, your highest solo Greater Rift completion will now dictate what difficulty levels you can access, rather than your Paragon level. And Bonus Acts are no longer a thing, as you're now free to play any Act you wish--completing an Act still nets you the same rewards as you'd receive for completing the Bonus Act previously.

Other changes to specific classes and items have been made, along with quality-of-life changes such as allowing you to assign Paragon points 100 at a time by holding the Control key on PC. You can see the full 2.5.0 patch notes for the PC version here.

Those playing on Xbox One or PS4 will see the introduction of Seasons. The first will begin on March 31 and operate like Seasons on PC, where you start a fresh character who can't access your bank.

Also on the way to Diablo III is the new Necromancer class, which we recently got to check out for ourselves.

New Pokemon Go Update Arrives, Here's What It Does

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 22, 2017 03:36 am

A new update for Pokemon Go has arrived, but don't expect any new features.

As outlined on Pokemon Go's website, the focus of the newest update is on smaller items, focusing on two areas. First, players will now receive a random evolution item for completing the seven-day "First PokeStop of the Day" challenge. Previously, you received 2,500 XP and other items for the Photo Disc when you visited a PokeStop every day for seven days in a row.

No Caption Provided

Today's Pokemon Go update also includes "minor text fixes," though these were not detailed. With the update applied, Pokemon Go should show up as version 0.59.1 on Android and 1.29.1 on iOS.

In other news about Pokemon Go, developer Niantic Labs has confirmed that more Legendary creatures are coming this year. Also coming to Pokemon Go is the highly anticipated trading feature. At the Game Developers Conference this month, product manager Tatsuo Nomura said trading will not be done through the internet. Players will need to be physically close to swap creatures.

What new features would you like to see added to Pokemon Go? Let us know in the comments below!

Nintendo Switch Reportedly Back In Stock Early At Some GameStop Stores

By Eddie Makuch on Mar 22, 2017 02:57 am

Earlier this week, retailer GameStop announced that it received a new shipment of Nintendo Switch systems and would make them available starting on Wednesday, March 22. It seems some stores have started to sell their stock early, as online reports claim the systems are being sold in-store right now.

People on NeoGAF are reporting that their local stores received 10 units, and they're being sold right now, including at least one store in Houston, Texas. As always, your market may vary, so it's a good idea to speak with your local GameStop about stock and availability.

If you're willing to part with your gaming hardware, you could get a Nintendo Switch for well below its $300 price point. GameStop is paying $150 in store credit for Wii U and 3DS systems, $175 for Xbox One, and $200 for PlayStation 4 when you apply that to the purchase of a new Nintendo Switch. This means you could get the hybrid console for $100-$150.

This special trade promotion is good until March 26.

"The customer enthusiasm and response we have seen so far [to Nintendo Switch] has been incredible as we continue to sell through our supply of systems," GameStop merchandising director Eric Bright said in a statement this week. "We strongly suggest any customer who is still looking to purchase a Nintendo Switch, visit one of our stores as soon as they can. This new allotment will go fast!"

According to GameStop, Nintendo Switch sales have been "phenomenal." In fact, sales are so strong that the new system could outpace the Wii in terms of sales at GameStop.

Demand for the Nintendo Switch has been high and Nintendo is reportedly doubling the amount of units produced to meet this.

Nintendo has not yet shared any specifics on sales, but it did say the console is the fastest-selling Nintendo system ever in the Americas, Europe, and Australia. A third-party report said 1.5 million Nintendo Switch units were sold in the device's first week on the market, which means it is close to meeting Nintendo's first-month expectations of 2 million sales already.

The Xbox One deals keep coming. Retailer GameStop has rolled out a new offer on the system that gets you any Xbox One game for free when you buy an Xbox One.

Many of the 500 GB and 1 TB Xbox One systems at GameStop already come with bundled games (Battlefield 1, Gears of War 4, and Forza Horizon 3 are examples), so you're actually getting two games at no extra cost. One limitation is that you can't use it on special editions priced above $60.

This deal is good until March 25 through GameStop's website and in-store.

In other Xbox One deals news, on Amazon, you can get a 500 GB white system with free copies of Mass Effect: Andromeda and Ghost Recon: Wildlands for $300. Additionally, the Microsoft Store is throwing in two free games from a limited pool when you buy a new Xbox One. On top of that, NewEgg has a bundle available where you can get a white Xbox One S and copies of Battlefield 1, Resident Evil 7, and Ghost Recon: Wildlands for $300.

2017 is a big year for the Xbox ecosystem, as Microsoft will release the new console, Project Scorpio, this holiday. It's described by Microsoft as being the most powerful system ever made.

Another Game's Wii U Version Canceled In Favor Of Nintendo Switch

By Chris Pereira on Mar 22, 2017 02:14 am

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, a spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night from the same director (Koji "IGA" Igarashi), is no longer coming to Wii U. Instead, it's headed to Switch.

Igarashi shared the news in a update posted on the game's Kickstarter page, explaining the rationale behind the move and apologizing to those hoping for a Wii U version.

"During our Kickstarter campaign [in 2015], the Wii U was at the height of its popularity, but the situation has drastically changed after the release of Nintendo Switch. This change made it difficult to receive the necessary support from the hardware maker, which has led us to drop the Wii U development and shift the development to Nintendo Switch.

"We are very sorry that it has come to this after all your support, but we hope you will understand," he said.

Backers will be able to choose a different version of the game or request a refund. More details about how to do are are shared here, but if you had chosen the Wii U version and now want a Switch copy, you don't have to do anything.

Bloodstained, which was delayed last year until 2018, is now slated for release on Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Vita. The Wii U port was only ever planned because Kickstarter funding reached a $3 million stretch goal. The campaign ultimately raised about $5.5 million, making it one of the platform's highest-funded games ever.

Bloodstained becomes the latest game to abandon Wii U in favor of Switch, which has gotten off to a successful start. Prior to the system's launch, Rive, Yooka-Laylee, and Stardew Valley were moved from Wii U to Switch, with the latter game seeing its upcoming multiplayer mode make its debut on Nintendo's system before other consoles.
