Grand Theft Auto V has received yet another update, with this one delivering more new content for GTA Online.
Resurrection is a new Adversary mode that plays out a lot like one we've seen in other games, including Gears of War 4's Dodgeball. It's essentially team deathmatch where you have only a single life, except killing a foe causes a teammate to be revived. The goal is to eliminate the entire enemy squad.
Resurrection can be played with teams of 4-8 players in seven different locations, including the Aircraft Carrier, RON Alternates Wind Farm, and Elysian Island. For a limited time, players will receive double GTA$ and RP from Resurrection matches.
Also new is the Pegassi Infernus Classic vehicle, which can be purchased through Legendary Motorsport. Rockstar's announcement today jokes, "Sure, its fuel consumption was recently designated a crime against humanity, and as far as safety features are concerned you might as well be driving round in a cluster bomb--but have you seen how pretty this thing is?"
These changes are all over the place, impacting vendors, bounties, and more. In addition to his usual lineup, Xur now sells two Exotic weapon bundles every week; completing weapon tests for the Gunsmith now provides more reputation; Moldering Shards and charged Antiquated Runes can be traded in to Eris Morn for Crota's Bane reputation; and many items from The Dawning update are available from Eververse. You can check out the full patch notes here.
The Age of Triumph update is meant to serve as a last hurrah of sorts for Destiny. It even brings back the classic main menu music, which is a nice touch.
It's a big day for Civilization VI players: The Persia and Macedon Civilization and Scenario Pack is now available, as is the Spring 2017 Update.
The new civs were unveiled last week and are now available for those who buy the premium DLC (unless you own the Civilization VI Deluxe Edition, which unlocks the DLC for free automatically). Persia, led by Cyrus II, has the Fall of Babylon ability, providing all Persian units with bonus movement after declaring a surprise war. Doing so also results in less of a diplomatic penalty than it does for other civs.
The other new civ, Macedon, is led by Alexander the Great. His Hellenistic Fusion ability provides a bonus after conquering a city, depending on the type of districts that city has built. He also provides a bonus that reduces the amount of war weariness Macedon suffers.
The DLC also comes with a new scenario, The Conquests of Alexander.
Meanwhile, Firaxis and 2K have released a Spring Update with a whole host of game tweaks. It's available now for PC, with Mac and Linux releases coming soon. Here are some of the major changes:
Warmonger penalties have been seriously reduced - players will receive 20% less of a warmongering penalty for declaring war or capturing a city when you've denounced the other player, or 40% less penalty for taking a city from a player you're at war with.
If you capture a city smaller than the average city in the game, your warmonger penalty is reduced too.
Harbors have been buffed to provide a major adjacency bonus with the City Center, +1 Food to all Coast tiles when the Lighthouse is built, and +2 Gold to all Coast tiles when the Seaport is built.
A UI issue that meant the multiplayer games list didn't show all available games has been fixed, and will now show games from additional regions.
Two new voiceover packs released today for Activision's Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, one of which includes rapper, actor, and producer Clifford Smith, better known as Method Man. GameSpot was able to catch up with Wu Tang Clan's very own to talk about how he got involved with Call of Duty. We also had the chance to talk about games he's been playing, his upcoming roles in movies and television, and his thoughts on hip-hop today.
Hey, what's up Meth? Thanks for taking the time to speak with us. So, you're doing a voiceover pack for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. How did you end up doing this project?
Well, I got a call. As soon as I heard it was for Call of Duty, I was in. Full stop. Plus, I remember a Call of Duty game (Ghosts) where they had Snoop Dogg do the same thing. That was really good.
If I understand correctly, you play a little Call of Duty yourself. What sparked your interest in playing this game?
It started with SOCOM. When they stopped doing SOCOM at a point where it was still good, our clan leader switched over to Call of Duty. Because we were refusing to do anything besides SOCOM, he switched over to Call of Duty, and I'd say I was the last one to switch over, because I was still trying to play SOCOM. That's how it happened. He put us all on. Every time there were multiplayer shooter games, it was our clan leader that usually got us to switch over and play other games. But once we bought into Call of Duty, that was it.
Do you remember which Call of Duty you finally jumped in on?
It started with Black Ops, it was the first time I remember where I actually started playing at an efficient level, I actually started to get the game. Like, I usually wouldn't come back to games like that. And all the maps were small that I could navigate around. For anyone that was having trouble playing the other Call of Duty games before, that one there helped a whole lot 'cause up to that point I was just a camper.
Tell me about one of your best Call of Duty moments. Like, when things got real intense and you pulled through. What are some of your best moments playing?
A dude was talking mega s***. This is just what one dude, though. I think I was the last person left and it was two guys on the opposing team left, I mean, my team was watching and they was pretty much like "We lost this round." And I murdered both those dudes. Like, it was luck but I got both and it was justice for them talking s*** through the whole game! They were just like, you know, "Noob," and the s*** they usually just chat in multiplayer.
Another time was when I first got ten kills without dying. Ecstatic. Ecstatic. Matter of fact, they were all in between the houses, I caught the majority of the team camping. Flanked around them and just started laying dudes down! That was in Nuketown, so if you stand in the spawn spot, you can just hammer dudes! That was the first time I got ten straight kills without dying.
I imagine you're hyped up to do the voiceover pack. What can we expect from it? What kind of lines are you going to be dropping?
They had some lines open and they gave me the freedom to express myself, so to speak. It's a lot of, you know, I got my own flavor on what's coming out of my mouth. That's going to my flavor. And being someone that actually played the game, I know some of the lingo even though I haven't played in a while, since this new one came out. I haven't even been home long enough to really lock in.
Anything else you've been playing, besides Call of Duty?
I usually play something by myself. I play NBA 2K, of course. I like Sniper Elite. Just the usual games that get great ratings first, I f*** with them. I don't go for all of them, but one that I did pick up was Watch Dogs 2. That was up my alley, plus I had part one. When I get home, the first thing I do when I go on, I play a game of basketball, just one game. Then I play a game of MLB just to further my career, and then I play a game of Madden. Then I go into my other games which is usually Hitman or Watch Dogs.
I want to also talk a little bit about other things outside games. You have a pretty prominent acting career. I've seen your cameo in Luke Cage and you were in Keanu with Key and Peele. You got any other plans for acting right now that you can talk about?
Yeah. I mean, let's put it this way, I'm doing four TV shows. Three of them are done already and I'm currently shooting one called Drop the Mic for TBS, James Corden's production. I'm doing that with Haley Bolt and also I have three TV shows I've already shot. The Breaks is one of course, they're playing that now. The Deuce, which will be coming soon for HBO. And Rebel, which will be out March 28, that's the premiere so, if you want to check for your boy I'll be on four different channels! You've got to kind of surf channels, though.
What's the word on How High 2?
You know, I can't really say much about it, I have to let the powers that be do what they do. I know there are some people that want to see this movie made, a lot more fans that want to see it made. But myself and Redman want to see it made correctly and if it's not made correctly then why even bother? Just give them more kind of stoner flicks.
But we're looking at a movie that, over the course of time, even though it's been what, 15 years? It's made 80 million dollars, right? Sales and revenue, things of that nature, off a 12 million dollar budget. So, I think that warrants a sequel in my opinion. You have to look at everything from every angle. It's been over 10 years since we've done that and that's taboo in Hollywood to do any sequels that's past four years ago.
Have you guys started any writing or storyboarding, anything like that?
We had a script, it needed some kinks knocked out of it. Just, you know, I don't think people are as enthusiastic about it in the industry as we are enthusiastic about it in the street, wanting to see this movie. But I mean, like I said, it's old Hollywood and this is the way things work. They've gone far with this process as far as, you know, sequels, because usually sequels aren't that good.
But occasionally you get a sequel that outshines the first one, and I don't see how hard that can be because in my opinion, How High isn't that hard to top. It was just a vehicle for me and Redman to showcase our talents, you know? The next one can be all about whatever the hell they want to do. Hopefully we'll get it, I don't even want to talk about it any more honestly but hopefully we'll get one better.
Speaking of you and Redman, you two going to do the soundtrack again?
Yeah, possibly. Possibly. I think Redman and Method Man is the heart, being the caretakers of '90s hip-hop. Going on that role of reminding these kids what it looked like back in our day and also being producers in Hollywood, we've got some great ideas then we put it together. And Redman's like, he wants is his comedy, so he knows all the ins and outs of the comedy. And that's pretty much the way and direction we'll go.
Any other rappers you've been following recently? Anyone you been really paying attention to or listening to?
Nah, but I'm rooting for all of them. You know, I see that the new crop is coming out of them, from listening to the fans. They're way more lyrical.
Also, I have nothing against mumble rappers, some of that s*** sounds crazy, because I'm all about changing the vision. You know, words are great, you've got to have the words, but cadence, can't beat that s***. If you listen to Smells Like Teen Spirit, it was mostly the cadence that sold that. I mean, Kurt Cobain was basically [Smells Like Teen Spirit imitation,] but it was the just the flow of it that made it dope.
And that's why I can't take that away from so-called mumble rappers, because we're all just rappers, doing our jobs. I'm all for them, keep doing what y'all doing. The time is coming to an end to where people think people like me see that music the same way people saw our music. Just think of it as evolution. It's going to continue growing and if you don't keep up you'll get swallowed the f*** up. Seriously.
Is there anyone you would want to do a collaborate with or anyone you would want to have on a feature that you haven't worked with yet?
Now, if I was on top and I was looking down, then I could say. But they up there, you know what I'm saying? It's like, I haven't really been up there in music as far as albums and the radio stuff, so they would honestly have to reach back. But be careful, because I'm a hell of a f*****g MC. You don't want me outshining you on your hit.
Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, Meth. Anything else you want to add?
If you haven't got Infinite Warfare, I think you should go out there and get it. It's got so many add-ons and updates. Get that Infinite Warfare because Method Man said so!
[Updated March 28 with two more games: Army of Two and Soltrio Solitaire]
The Xbox One's backwards compatibility feature, introduced in November 2015, lets you play Xbox 360 games on the new console. But what games are available? We've now rounded them all up--and we'll continue to update this post as new games are made available.

The latter is a solid game of solitaire, with 13 different versions of the classic card game available, though you might balk at the $10 asking price.
If you already own either game digitally, it should show up automatically in the My Games and Apps section of your Xbox One. In the case of Army of Two, you can also pop in a physical disc to play.
Alternatively, you can purchase either game on your Xbox One or through the links below.

Square Enix has made a welcome change to Final Fantasy XIV's free trial, providing players with the opportunity to check the game out without a countdown clock to keep in mind.
Up until now, the free trial provided only 14 days to check out the MMO, regardless of how much you played or how far you advanced. Now, you can potentially play indefinitely, although there are still limitations: namely, you can't advance beyond level 35. While the upcoming Stormblood expansion raises the level cap from 60 to 70, that's still a substantial amount of the game you can check out without ever purchasing it or a subscription.
If you've participated in the trial previously, you'll now be allowed to jump back in and pick up from where you left off. With the 14-day limit in place, you were unable to re-experience the trial after those 14 days without making a new account.
While the first season of HBO's crime thriller True Detective was one of the most acclaimed TV shows of recent years, Season 2 was widely considered to be a disappointment. To date, HBO has not announced a third season, but it has now been reported that creator Nic Pizzolatto is working on new scripts for the show.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Pizzolatto has written "at least the first two episodes" of a potential third season. The site also states that veteran TV producer David Milch (Deadwood, NYPD Blue) is working alongside Pizzolatto.
HBO has yet to formally greenlight True Detective Season 3 or comment on this story.
Last year Michael Lombardo, former president of programming at HBO, spoke about the negative reaction to Season 2. "When we tell somebody to hit an air date as opposed to allowing the writing to find its own natural resting place, when it's ready, when it's baked--we've failed," he admitted. "And I think in this particular case, the first season of True Detective was something that Nic Pizzolatto had been thinking about, gestating, for a long period of time. He's a soulful writer.
"I think what we did was go, 'Great.' And I take the blame. I became too much of a network executive at that point. We had huge success. 'Gee, I'd love to repeat that next year.'
"Well, you know what? I set him up. To deliver, in a very short time frame, something that became very challenging to deliver. That's not what that show is. He had to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. Find his muse. And so I think that's what I learned from it. Don't do that anymore."
True Detective Season 1 aired in 2014 and starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, while 2015's Season 2 featured Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Rachel McAdams.
Even at its viewer peak, Season 2 fell short of what the first had achieved. The final episode was watched by an audience of 2.73 million in April 2015, a 22% drop from the season one finale a year earlier.
Nintendo has released the first system update for Nintendo Switch since its launch earlier this month, but don't go expecting it to introduce Virtual Console or any other meaningful features.
Whereas the day one update did have some significant components--such as enabling access to the eShop--nothing of substance has changed with today's update. According to patch notes shared on Nintendo's support site, 2.1.0 merely provides "general system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience."
No further specifics were shared, and unless they're well-hidden, there are no new features or settings included in the update that went unmentioned in the patch notes.
The update should automatically download in the background, and you'll be prompted (but not forced) to install it when you open any piece of software. Alternatively, you can go to the System area of the Settings menu to start the very brief installation process.
While this might be a disappointing update, we do know there's a lot of functionality still to come for Switch. There's the aforementioned Virtual Console, integration with a mobile app that allows for voice chat, and a premium version of its online service that provides limited-time access to a free game. Virtual Console has not yet been dated, though we've already seen classic games released on the eShop. The mobile app is slated for this summer, with the expanded online service arriving this fall.
This year's Call of Duty game may be set in the Second World War, according to a new report.
The rumor first surfaced earlier in March, when YouTube channel The Family Video Gamers revealed supposed leaked marketing material that showed some World War II-themed box art. GameSpot has also heard the game will be set around that period.
Eurogamer has also corroborated the story, adding that "sources have confirmed" 2017's Call of Duty will indeed be titled WWII.
"In 2017, Activision will take Call of Duty back to its roots and traditional combat will once again take center stage," Tippl said. "This is what our dedicated community of Call of Duty players and Sledgehammer Games, which has been developing this year's title, are the most excited about." Sledgehammer is the studio behind 2014's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
The decision to return to the Second World War may have been influenced by lower-than-expected sales for last year's future-set Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. We already knew sales were down significantly compared with the previous year's Black Ops III, though since Infinite Warfare was a new sub-brand--and not an established, recognisable name like Black Ops--it is a difficult comparison.
"[I]t's clear that, for a portion of our audience, the space setting just didn't resonate," Tippl explained. "We have a passionate, experienced studio deeply committed to this direction, and despite the risks we saw, we believe it is important to consider the passions of our game teams in deciding what content to create.
Despite some fan criticism, we enjoyed the latest Call of Duty here at GameSpot. Critic Miguel Concepcion said it offers the franchise's "best story in years," with some moments "at least as memorable and moving as any deeds from … the series' heyday." Read more in our full Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare review.
The spectacular new trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming is here. The latest look at the upcoming Marvel movie features Tom Holland in action as Spidey, plus Michael Keaton as the villainous Vulture, and Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark. Check it out below:
The trailer reveals that Stark will take on a mentoring role to young Peter Parker, and gets to wear his Iron Man armor. Keaton's Vulture seems very angry at the world, and with the help of Shocker and Tinkerer, is developing lots of dangerous looking gadgetry. There's the expected wise-cracking from Spidey, and some impressive-looking action sequences
The movie also stars Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Bokeem Woodbine as Shocker, and Michael Chernus as the Tinkerer. It's directed by Jon Watts.
In a recent interview with Movieweb, Holland explained how Spider-Man will differ from the other heroes in the Marvel universe. "You've seen the billionaire, the scientist, the soldier," he said. "Now it's time to see the kid. And every decision we make on set is based off how would a kid react in this situation, so every fight scene we have is designed in a way that's almost child-friendly, so he never actually punches anyone. It's all done kind of by accident. I think the biggest difference is his youth and innocence."
The big screen adaptation of Stephen King's classic horror novel It arrives in September, and a first trailer is expected soon. In advance of that we have some creepy new images-- check them out below, via USA Today:
The film's young cast includes Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, Jaeden Lieberhe (Midnight Special), Sophia Lillis (37), Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Chosen Jacobs (Hawaii Five-0). It also features Bill Skarsgard as the terrifying demonic clown Pennywise. Last month, the first images of the movie's "Loser's Club" were released.
King recently revealed he had seen the film and was very happy with it. He tweeted:
Andy Muschietti's remake of IT (actually it's Part 1--The Losers' Club) succeeds beyond my expectations. Relax. Wait. And enjoy.
As King notes, the movie is expected to be the first of two films--in the novel, a group of kids overcome their fears to eventually defeat the creature known as It. Years later he returns, and as adults they must work together to finish the job. The first movie will be about the children's story, while a second will chronicle the adults' narrative.
The It adaptation has been a long time coming. Cary Fukunaga (True Detective, Beasts of No Nation) was attached to direct at one stage, but eventually dropped out due to creative differences. Will Poulter (The Revenant) was pegged to play Pennywise, but scheduling conflicts also led him to withdraw from the project.

It's a big day for Mafia III, as the game's next free DLC is out today alongside a free demo version of the game for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
The free demo is 24 GB on PC, 27 GB on PS4, and 25 GB on Xbox One, developer Hangar 13 announced in a blog post. The demo lets you play the first act of Mafia III, which features a bank heist gone wrong. This sets up the story for what's to come.
If you like what you play and what to pick up the full game, the good news is that all of your progress stays with you. Additionally, the game is half off now through April 17.
As for the new expansion, Faster, Baby adds more cars and makes you an even more deadly driver through things like proximity mines that you can lay as traps. The update also lets you throw grenades while driving, which can help you get out of hot situations. Here's the launch trailer:
Faster, Baby is included with Mafia III's $30 DLC Pass and the $80 Deluxe Edition. Alternatively, you can purchase it by itself for $15.
Following Faster, Baby will be two more expansions, including Stone Unturned and Sign of the Tines. These are both included with the DLC Pass as well.
Tom Holland, the newest actor to play Spider-Man, says he did not consult with previous Spider-Man actors such as Tobey MaGuire or Andrew Garfield about the role.
"I wasn't in touch with them," Holland told Variety. "They both said some really lovely things about me online. I met Andrew [Garfield] at the BAFTAs the other day. It was cool. He's such a nice guy and we had a great chat and went our separate ways."
Also in the interview, Holland talked about the first time he donned the Spidey suit, saying it was "a little bit of a disappointment," but for a good reason. Because he was cast as Spider-Man after Captain America: Civil War started filming, the production team didn't have time to make him a suit right away. So he had to wear a modified version of his stunt double's suit, which was too big.
"So the first time I ever tried it on it was kind of like a saggy, sad Spider-Man," Holland said.
But when Holland put on his suit, everything changed--for the better.
"The time I tried it on for real and it fit perfectly was one of the most surreal experiences of my life," Holland said. "It's been my dream since I was a kid, and the fact that it was coming true before my own eyes was such a crazy feeling. I was just so proud of myself and delighted with how my career had gone and where I was standing."
Also on the line of the Spider-Man costume, Holland said it can take almost 45 minutes to put it on when the harness is attached underneath. As you can imagine, this presents some problems when nature calls.
"The tricky part is going to the bathroom," he said. "You have to sort of plan in advance. You have to be like, 'Look, I think I might need the toilet in 45 minutes, so we have to take this off.' Obviously it's a very expensive suit, so you don't want it just swinging down around your ankles."
Today at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Sony announced the full title for the upcoming Jumanji sequel. It'll be called Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, a title that may make you smile or cringe. Additionally, it was confirmed that the movie has a video game plot.
According to Collider's Steven Weintraub, who attended the event, star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson appeared on stage to introduce a trailer that contained action and silly dialogue.
Jumanji is now called Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle. About to watch trailer. @TheRock on stage introducing the footage.
There is no word yet on when the Welcome to the Jungle trailer will be released to the public. We'll post the video here on GameSpot when it comes out.
"One rather nerdy boy is surprised (and rather pleased) to see he's got the muscles of The Rock," THR reported. "The popular girl in school is horrified to learn she's got the body of Jack Black."
This may explain actress Karen Gillan's skimpy outfit, as she is a video game character.
Rocket League is immensely popular, but it is not without its problems. The game has faced server issues recently, resulting in long matchmaking times. Now, developer the CEO of developer Psyonix has pledged to improve the online component of the game.
"In regards to both backend (PsyNet) issues, and game server performance, we agree that the server outages and recent lengthy matchmaking times are totally unacceptable," Dave Hagewood said in a blog post today. "We sincerely apologize to all of our players for the quality of online play, and we are focusing all of our available resources on addressing PsyNet's capabilities and performance, and the quality of our game servers."
Hagewood said part of the issue is due to Rocket League's continued popularity. The number of monthly "active" players has risen by 40 percent compared to 2016 for the first few months of 2017, he said. "We need to do a better job at scaling up our systems and internal processes to handle this kind of growth," Hagewood explained.
Hagewood went on to say that Psyonix is "racing" to fill jobs on the developer's Online Services team, which handles the developer's backend systems.
"We are effectively becoming an Online Service company, as Rocket League is primarily an online game, and we continue to grow in size and scope," Hagewood said. "Growing this team is one of our top priorities as we approach Rocket League's two-year anniversary in July."
Hagewood added that the problems with Rocket League's online elements rose to the surface about the same time of the free weekend on Xbox One in February. "We have seen more and more of you playing Rocket League online, and this has led to new issues that hadn't appeared as we scaled our capacity up to this point," he said.
There have also been performance problems inside of the Google Cloud network, which is used to power PsyNet. Here is a breakdown of what Psyonix is doing right now to address the issues, as written by Psyonix:
Since the February outages, we assigned additional dedicated staff from our Online Services team to database stability and reliability. They are hard at work on changes like separating high-traffic features like Player Trading and "Scraper API" access used by third party sites from our core services. This will reduce load on the PsyNet database and reduce exposure to outages during peak hours. We definitely don't want to keep you off the pitch on weekends or holidays.
We are working closely with Google engineers to investigate the disturbances to our database performance from outside our cloud instance.
As for Rocket League's matchmaking delays, these have "become apparent" in the days after the Dropshot mode's release last week. One of the problems here is that there are empty servers but PsyNet, the backend infrastructure, is not getting players into servers as fast as it should.
"This causes the extreme search times being reported on social media," Hagewood said. "As this is a new problem, we are still investigating the root cause. We have made changes in the interim to reduce the likelihood of it recurring, but more substantial improvements will be made throughout 2017."
Finally, Hagewood said Rocket League is suffering through problems related to dedicated servers, which appear to the player as "lag spikes" or other "hiccups" that don't have anything to do with a player's ping.
"This problem is particularly difficult to identify because so many issues factor into a user's experience with a dedicated server," Hagewood said. "Local connection problems can cause packet loss or an unstable connection despite a steady ping sample. Individual ISPs can have routing issues to one of our server hosts that causes unusually high ping that we have no control over."
Princess Leia shows up at the end of Star Wars: Rogue One, but, given the timeline, it had to be a younger version of actress Carrie Fisher. This was made possible through movie magic.
Norwegian actress Ingvild Deila played Leia in Rogue One, and some new images show what she looked like on the movie's set with motion-capture dots sprinkled on her face. The team at acclaimed effects studio Industrial Light & Magic took it from there, creating a young Leia face on Deila's body.
There are also some images of actor Guy Henry, who played Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One. The part was originally played by Peter Cushing, and was digitally recreated for Rogue One.
The next Star Wars movie is The Last Jedi, which comes to theaters in December. No trailers have been shown to the public yet, but one possible venue for the first one could be Star Wars Celebration next month.
[UPDATE] A press release sent today by Outlast 2's Australian publisher, 18point2, has now shed some light on the reasoning behind the game's eventual R18+ rating following a resubmission to the Classification Board. The provided statement reads as follows:
The original submission of Outlast 2 sent to the Australian Classification Branch contained the final game code and a video file for reference taken from an Alpha version of the game. This video file should not have been sent along with the game code, as its content was not representative of the final game.
In the second submission, the same game code was submitted, with a video file reflecting the final game content. The game was then approved for release with an R18+ rating. There will be only one version of Outlast 2 available worldwide. These will be the final comments made on this release.
An entry for Outlast 2 listed on the Australian Government's Classification Board website has confirmed that on March 21st 2017, Outlast was given the R18+ rating, with warnings of "high impact horror themes, violence, blood, gore, and sex."
The ruling comes roughly a week after the game's initial classification refusal, which stated that Outlast 2 was found to: "depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified."
In a report obtained by Kotaku, it appeared as if scenes of "implied sexual violence" were a significant factor in the board's original decision to refuse classification.
It's unclear what caused the Classification Board to alter their original decision, but what we do know is that the contents of Outlast 2 were not altered in any way during resubmission, and that Australia will receive the same game as everyone else.
In a statement provided to Press-Start, developer Red Barrels confirmed: "Outlast 2 has been rated R18+ by the Classification Branch in Australia and will be released 26th April 2017. There will be only one version of Outlast 2 available worldwide."

Big-name actor Johnny Depp will play antivirus software pioneer John McAfee in an upcoming movie about his life, according to a new report.
Deadline (via IGN) reports that Depp will play the part in the movie King of the Jungle, which will focus on his time at his compound in Belize. The movie will chronicle his time with Wired magazine writer on a journey involving "paranoia, machine guns, sex, and murder."
King of the Jungle will be directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love, Focus), with a script written by The People v O.J. An extended version of the new Fargo Season 3 trailer has arrived. Titled "Trapped," the video dives deeper into the story that focuses on the two characters that actor Ewan McGregor plays.
These characters include Ray and Emmit Stussy. Emmit is the "Parking Lot King of Minnesota," while Ray is a balding, struggling parole officer. He lives with a "huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he's been dealt--and he blames his brother," according to the official synopsis from Collider.
"Their sibling rivalry follows a twisted path that begins with petty theft but soon leads to murder, mobsters, and cut-throat competitive bridge," the description goes on.
Other Season 3 newcomers include Gone Girl's Carrie Coon in the role of police department chief Gloria Burgle. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays Ray's girlfriend, Nikki Swango, while Harry Potter actor David Thewlis plays V.M. Vargas, who is described as a "mysterious loner and true capitalist whose bosses plan to partner with Emmit, whether 'The Parking Lot King' likes it or not."
Production on Fargo Season 3 took place in Calgary. The show was created by Noah Hawley (Bones, Legion); Joel and Ethan Coen, the directors of Fargo the movie, are executive producers.

Fox's long-running animated show The Simpsons is known for its celebrity cameos, and now the next one has been revealed. According to Entertainment Weekly, TV veteran Norman Lear will have a "brief cameo" in an upcoming episode.
Lear, 94, created and produced a number of famous TV shows, including TheJeffersons, Sanford and Son, Maude, and All in the Family. According to the report, Lear will play himself in a Season 29 episode this fall, appearing in a scene involving a theme song from one of his shows.
Lear is still working, as he's an executive producer for the One Day at a Time reboot that premiered on Netflix earlier this year.
Last year, Fox renewed The Simpsons for Seasons 29 and 30. After Season 30, there will be 669 episodes in all, surpassing Gunsmoke (635 episodes) to become the most for any scripted TV show in history.
Some of the guest stars for Season 28 included Sarah Silverman and Snoop Dogg.
World of Warcraft's huge 7.2 update launches tomorrow, March 28, and we now have the full patch notes for it.
The update, known as The Tomb of Sargeras, features some major additions, including a new dungeon, PvP Brawls, the pet battle dungeon, and class-specific campaigns, which lead to quests that unlock new epic class mounts.
Those mounts will be all the more useful thanks to 7.2 adding the ability to fly in the Broken Isles. This won't immediately be available to everyone, as you'll first need to earn the Broken Isle Pathfinder, Part 2 Achievement to earn the right to take to the skies.
7.2 introduces new ways to enhance your Artifact with new empowered traits, higher ranks for existing traits, and a new final trait that is unlocked through a questline.
There are also a huge number of changes to classes, items, professions, and so on. There are also quality-of-life changes (like a new screen to track item sets and transmogrification options), improvements to targeting with the Tab key (no more targeting an enemy you can't see!), and more.
The video above provides a rundown of the major points, while the full patch notes can be seen here. Blizzard has also published more in-depth previews of the various components of the update, which you can see here.
The open-world game was originally released last year for PC as a one-time purchase ($30), supported by microtransactions. Presumably, the console edition will follow the same setup. It launches later this year, though a specific date was not mentioned.
Call of the Wild, which is developed by Expansive Worlds and published by Avalanche, features what Avalanche says is the "most immersive hunting experience ever created." Players can hunt all manner of animals, including deer, bears, bison, and birds with a variety of customizable weaponry. The game features weather events, a day/night cycle, and a wind system that carries your scent.
On top of a single-player mode, Call of the Wild includes co-op and competitive modes for up to eight players.
Call of the Wild is a follow-up to The Hunter, which was released in 2009. The Hunter: Primal, an expansion featuring dinosaurs, came out in 2015 on PC.
Ahead of its release later this week, big-screen anime adaptation Ghost in the Shell has received its final trailer.
It's an action-packed 90 seconds, showing The Major--a cyborg cop played by Scarlett Johansson--taking on some criminals. We also get a good look at the villain, Kuze (Michael Pitt). Check it out:
With the Shin Megami Tensei series celebrating its 25th anniversary, Atlus announced in January that it would be bringing new games to both Switch and 3DS. It's now revealed the latter project, which is called Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey.
This is an updated version of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, which was an RPG released for DS in 2009. Deep Strange Journey was announced with a Japanese-language teaser trailer, which you can watch below:
Deep Strange Journey will feature the introduction of a mysterious new character named Alex, a new ending path, new artwork, and more, according to a translation by Gematsu. More details will be shared in this week's issue of Japanese publication Famitsu.
According to its official website, Deep Strange Journey is due out this fall in Japan. There's not yet any word regarding a release internationally, which is also true of the "new HD title" coming to Switch.
In January, Atlus said of the Switch game, "Atlus USA currently has no information about a localization for this title but wanted to present the details from the Japanese reveal of this title to the western market. A formal announcement will be made later for this title if a localization gets confirmed."
