6 Ways Krypton Crushes Superman Canon

By Chris E. Hayner on May 07, 2018 10:11 pm

How Krypton is freeing itself from decades of Superman mythology

The arrival of Krypton on Syfy comes at a time when comic book TV is redefining classic superheroes that have been the focus of attention for almost a century. Whether it's the way Gotham is tackling the Batman mythos or the continuously growing universe of heroes on Arrow and The Flash, it's anything but business as usual for DC comics on TV.

That's what makes Krypton so interesting. While it tells the story of Superman's family and his home planet, it's set generations before the Man of Steel is even born. While it may sound like that makes for a boring story given fans know Superman's story goes, this is a show that's not really concerning itself with comic book canon thanks to the arrival of a time-traveling Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos).

GameSpot spoke with the cast of Krypton during a group interview to discuss the ways it deviates from Superman's typical canon and what it means for the future of the series. Make sure you give Krypton a shot when it airs Wednesdays at 10 PM ET on Syfy.

1. Adam Strange's time travel changes everything

The very notion of somebody coming back in time from the modern day is bound to make you think it will completely alter the timeline. With Adam Strange, that is absolutely the case.

"The second Adam Strange comes back into time," star Cameron Cuffe (Seg) says. "The timeline is irrevocably changed. Things could change and things do change." Executive producer Cam Welsh agrees, explaining, "I think because now that Adam Strange has traveled back in time, the timeline that we know from canon has now changed. That's really what's built into the premise of the show is can you rewrite history, and what are the dangers that can come out of that."

2. Adam also provides Seg with a link to future generations of the House of El

Thanks to Adam's arrival, it provides evidence to Seg of his family's future, which will no doubt shape how he views his own fate. "[Adam has] been there, he's been to the future, he's from the future. He knows Clark, he's met Clark," Cuffe says. "Clark is his friend. Having this guy on Seg's side, it makes him listen and it plays into the ideas that Seg does hold deep down, but [that] feel very far removed from who he is."

3. The Zod family may not be so bad after all

The introduction of Lyta-Zod (Georgina Campbell) as a love interest to Seg was an interesting choice, given the bad blood between the Houses of El and Zod by the time Superman is born. As Campbell explains, though, Lyta is really nothing like the infamous General Zod--at least not yet.

"I think like all young people she has that idea that she wants to change things, and she wants to be different, and she wants to rebel against her parents," she says. "And she's very emotional, as you are when you're young, and she's in her first love and all that sort of thing. So I think it's quite interesting over the series looking at how that develops and how things change. And also that question of, as you get older, do those things start to fall away?"

4. In fact, could the House of Zod be the source of morality Seg is lacking?

Tyrannical, Lyta is not. She's merely a young woman trying to do what's right in the world--something Seg could learn a thing of two about. "She's a way more moral character than Seg is," Cuffe admits. "She in many ways is Seg's moral core, and he learns so much from her."

5. The wild card that is Nyssa Vex

While Superman fans have met the ancestors of a lot of these characters before, there is one piece of the puzzle that is a total mystery, and her name is Nyssa-Vex (Wallis Day). She's a mysterious character who could swing toward good or evil. However, her family has no notable place in Superman canon. Though, perhaps, that's going to change due to Adam Strange altering the timeline.

As Day tells GameSpot, her character does have a motive and it's one that will be revealed sooner than later. "As time goes on yes definitely she definitely does lean one way and again at the end, we're not quite sure if that was genuine, we don't know but I can tell you for sure in this season she definitely does lean towards one side," the actress teases.

6. There are no heroes and villains

The comic book history of Superman is filled with absolutes--there is good and there is evil. Superman is unabashedly good as he works to save the world from the likes of Lex Luthor, General Zod, or any other forms of ultimate villainy that come his way. Krypton is a different story.

Instead of dealing with good vs. evil, it operates somewhere in between. "There are no goodies and baddies. No one in this show is putting on a costume and fighting crime. There is no freak of the week," Cuffe says. "Everything is changed at the end of every episode. The status quo changes, the relationships change, there are consequences to every action, so even when you win, it's at a cost. Also, there are wonderful shades of gray. We have no villains on the show, there are no heroes on the show, everyone believes they are doing the right thing."

That's how you wind up with Superman's ancestor being a conman or the House of Zod having the moral high ground. It's taking what fans recognize as the norm and turning it on its head, constantly shifting alliances.

Netflix's Lost in Space -- 45 Times Everything Went Horribly Wrong

By Chris E. Hayner on May 07, 2018 10:10 pm

Lost in Space is ruled by Murphy's Law.

Netflix's interstellar family vacation, Lost in Space, is a seriously fun show to watch. Based on the cult classic TV show from the 1960s, this new take is riveting, exciting, and looks beautiful--even if this distant planet they've landed on looks a lot like the wilderness outside of Vancouver, where the show was filmed.

So while it's a good show--GameSpot's review of Lost in Space is proof of our love--it's not perfect. In fact, some of the show is downright silly. Time and time again, terrible things happen in and around the Robinson family as they cope with life on this new planet, proving Murphy's Law is as strong as the laws of gravity in this corner of space.

Whether it's Will Robinson falling into an ice hole in the pilot or his parents sinking in a tar pit while out for a drive--down to the possible destruction of the planet itself--things happen again and again throughout season 1. In fact, it's so constant that you can't help but laugh.

After digging through the first season, we were able to come up with 45 different times everything went absolutely wrong on Lost in Space. Follow along, though do beware of spoilers if you haven't actually seen the show.

Season 1, Episode 1--Impact

The series stars off with Murphy's Law immediately sticking it to the Robinson clan when their friendly game of Go Fish turns into a space emergency, as they lose control of their ship.

Season 1, Episode 1--Impact

During that very crash, Maureen--the matriarch of the Robinson family--breaks her leg when a case slams into it.

Season 1, Episode 1--Impact

After crash-landing on a strange, new planet, the Robinsons quickly try to escape their battered ship. Of course, they don't get far due to a damaged hatch that temporarily keeps them stuck.

Season 1, Episode 1--Impact

Not long after finally getting off of the ship, they realize it crashed into a lake of freezing water that is swallowing it whole. This is still in the first half of the first episode.

Season 1, Episode 1--Impact

Before it gets frozen, though, eldest daughter Judy goes back into the ship to retrieve power cells to keep the family from freezing to death. Naturally, because only bad luck exists on this planet, she doesn't make it back in time and gets frozen in, with only her spacesuit keeping her alive.

Season 1, Episode 1--Impact

Will, the youngest in the family, had a plan to free her. Instead, though, he fell down an ice hole.

Season 1, Episode 1--Impact

They do find a way to melt the ice, though. However, then it starts to rain and the temperature plummets again, causing the water around Judy to freeze again.

Season 1, Episode 1--Impact

Meanwhile, after climbing out of his ice hole, Will ended up in a jungle being chased by a scary robot.

Season 1, Episode 1--Impact

He made friends with the robot, but then forest fire threatened to harm him--again, this is still the first episode. Thankfully, the robot turned out to be friendly and saved him, then took him back to his family, where it saved Judy. Thanks, Robot.

Season 1, Episode 2--Diamonds In The Sky

The beginning of the second episode introduced another crashed ship on the planet, with a crew in a similarly disastrous situation.

Season 1, Episode 2--Diamonds In The Sky

There's is a different kind of disaster, though, as the ship they're on hangs over the edge of a cliff.

Season 1, Episode 2--Diamonds In The Sky

The Robinsons are looking for other survivors, though, and instead find fire and a destroyed ship, meaning not all of their people made it out alive.

Season 1, Episode 2--Diamonds In The Sky

With her family off looking for other survivors, Penny sees a massive storm rolling in because nothing is ever simple.

Season 1, Episode 2--Diamonds In The Sky

Naturally, her family gets caught in the storm. This isn't your run-of-the-mill rain, though. The hail can pierce your skin and cause some scary damage, as John quickly learns.

Season 1, Episode 2--Diamonds In The Sky

Once they finally escape and get clear of the storm, seeing a flare from another survivor leads them right back into it as the Robinsons try to be heroes.

Season 1, Episode 3--Infestation

Because they simply cannot catch a break, after getting back to their ship safe and sound, the Robinsons realize damage has been done to their engines that must be fixed before they can leave the ice.

Season 1, Episode 3--Infestation

Additionally, a portion of the ship has flooded, making certain places impossible to reach.

Season 1, Episode 3--Infestation

To make matters even more difficult, Maureen realizes that their fuel is disappearing somehow. Without fuel, they'll never be able to power the ship.

Season 1, Episode 3--Infestation

Where's the fuel going, you might wonder? These scary-looking snake creatures that have now infested the ship are eating it.

Season 1, Episode 3--Infestation

Thankfully, they're able to fix the engines and power the ship enough to rid them of the creatures, but not before Judy becomes trapped underneath shifting cargo.

Season 1, Episode 4--The Robinsons Were Here

Another group of survivors are working their way to the Robinsons, only to fall prey to... a dead battery. Seriously.

Season 1, Episode 4--The Robinsons Were Here

That's probably better than the trouble John and Maureen run into, though, as a massive dish falls on top of them. It's astounding to look at, but one of the worst things that could happen. Luckily, they survive without a scratch.

Season 1, Episode 5--Transmission

As Maureen tries to conduct some weather and atmosphere experiments, a gust of wind and her trusty weather balloon nearly pull her to her death over the edge of a cliff.

Season 1, Episode 5--Transmission

Not long after, she uses that same balloon to float into the planet's atmosphere. It's there that she realizes the planet's gravitational pull means it will soon be destroyed. So not only is the planet trying to kill them, it's also trying to kill itself.

Season 1, Episode 5--Transmission

But that's all in space. Down at ground level, the survivors are menaced by--what else--a big creepy, lizard monster.

Season 1, Episode 6--Eulogy

As the sixth episode kicks off, Judy and some of the other survivors find a cache of fuel they can use to leave the planet. The problem is, it's stuck in a ship that's about to topple over a cliff.

Season 1, Episode 6--Eulogy

As the group drains the fuel, Don finds information to show that Dr. Smith is an impostor. Unfortunately, almost all of it slid right out the door in a box as the ship went over the cliff. This particular moment is almost comical.

Season 1, Episode 6--Eulogy

Back at the home base, a particularly unstable survivor got their hands on a gun--thanks to Dr. Smith--and put pretty much everyone in danger in her quest to get to Robot.

Season 1, Episode 6--Eulogy

Where else would that lead but to Robot going temporarily mad, which left John badly injured. Again, thanks Dr. Smith.

Season 1, Episode 7--Pressurized

Thankfully, by the next episode, John is largely healed and Robot is taken out of commission. Unfortunately, John, with Maureen this time, quickly lands back in danger when their space SUV gets stuck in a tar pit.

Season 1, Episode 7--Pressurized

Meanwhile, the mission to rescue the fuel hits a snag when the transport vehicle is damaged by gaseous explosions. Evan heroically springs into action, lest the entire mission be doomed.

Season 1, Episode 7--Pressurized

That goes about as well as you'd expect, given how this show operates, when the transport hits more rough terrain.

Season 1, Episode 7--Pressurized

A particularly nasty explosion topples the tanker, crushing Evan underneath. Not all hope is lost, though, as Judy puts her medical skills to use to save him.

Season 1, Episode 7--Pressurized

However, by removing the tanker crushing them, the group also loses all of the gas they procured--mission not accomplished.

Season 1, Episode 7--Pressurized

Meanwhile, Maureen and John sink all the way into the tar. In theory, that should seal their fates. Of course, they find a way out right before running out of air.

Season 1, Episode 7--Pressurized

Sadly, after sacrificing the fuel to save him, Evan still dies.

Season 1, Episode 9--Resurrection

As Episode 9 kicks off, John uses what little fuel was left to return to space in an effort to signal to others that there were survivors on the planet. As you can tell, that went really well--the ship he was in blew up. He didn't die, though. Instead, he and his co-pilot were left floating through space on a small sliver of the vessel.

Season 1, Episode 9--Resurrection

As if one parent in danger isn't enough, Dr. Smith also kidnapped Maureen. You know, because she's a crazy person. Her plan was to rebuild Robot so he would be loyal to only her--and it worked.

Season 1, Episode 9--Resurrection

The rest of the survivors, though, found a source of fuel to help power their ships into space. However, upon retrieving it, they were met be these creepy and deadly alien creatures. This planet is full of monstrosities.

Season 1, Episode 10--Danger, Will Robinson

While the Season 1 finale wrapped up a lot of storylines, it wasn't without its calamities. Like when the Robinsons thought they had defeated the now-evil Robot, only for him to creep back onto the ship--and destroy the hatch that keeps the cargo bay airtight.

Season 1, Episode 10--Danger, Will Robinson

He wasn't alone, though. In case you thought one unstoppable killing robot was too easy a task, two of them came to play.

Season 1, Episode 10--Danger, Will Robinson

While ultimately Will's Robot remembered its loyalty to the youngest Robinson and destroyed its fellow machine, it wasn't without damage to Maureen's helmet, which sucked away at her air supply.

Season 1, Episode 10--Danger, Will Robinson

Likewise, the space SUV that Judy and Penny were hiding in was damaged in the fight, leaving their air supply in doubt.

Season 1, Episode 10--Danger, Will Robinson

Will went outside of the ship to repair the hatch only to, in true Robinson fashion, end up in an even worse position than before when he lost touch with the ship and floated away. It's a good thing John chose that exact moment to make his way back to the ship, saving his son and rejoining the family.

Season 1, Episode 10--Danger, Will Robinson

Unfortunately, just as the Robinsons and Smith were about the rejoin the rest of the survivors, a piece of alien technology on their ship instantly sends them to another galaxy--meaning they are only again lost in space.

Avengers: Infinity War -- 12 Things The Movie Completely Undoes In The MCU

By Chris E. Hayner on May 07, 2018 10:09 pm

Infinity War makes some massive changes to things established elsewhere in the MCU

There's no doubt about it, Avengers: Infinity War is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most massive entry yet. It's packed with characters, plot developments, game-changing moments, and a massive cliffhanger that leaves a year for fans to cope with everything they've witnessed. This is where we warn you to stop reading if you've yet to see the movie, as we are going to dig into some heavy spoiler territory.

That's not all Infinity War is packing, though. In addition to the death, destruction, and insanity that unfolds throughout the nearly three-hour movie, there are also some major changes made to MCU canon. Things established in previous movies throughout Marvel's 10-year streak of superhero adventures are altered to better fit the story of Infinity War.

There's little doubt that these changes will impact the MCU for years to come, given the movies Marvel already has on the way. However, there are still two movies to come before Avengers 4 takes over theaters. Both Ant-Man and The Wasp will likely carry heavy implications for the next Avengers movie, given how the characters from both films are likely to play a major role.

While Ant-Man himself didn't factor into Infinity War at all, thanks to the deal he cut with the government, Captain America, Thor, and the rest of the surviving Avengers are going to need all of the help they can get their hands on in Avengers 4. That's also, most likely, where Captain Marvel will come into play. In the movie's post-credits scene, Nick Fury sends out a distress message to the female superhero that's getting her own standalone film in 2019--just in time to introduce fans to her before she swoops in to help save the day in Avengers 4.

Come along with GameSpot as we take a look at what, exactly, has been changed in Marvel's latest outing. Additionally, you can see our look at every character that died in Infinity War, as well as those that didn't end up in the movie at all.

Scarlet Witch's disappearing accent

When first introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Scarlet Witch, like her brother Quicksilver, had a thick Eastern European accent. When she returned in Captain America: Civil War, her accent wasn't quite as strong, but it was still there. If you've seen Infinity War, though, you know the accent is practically nonexistent. You can hear it very briefly toward the end of the film, but other than that it sounds like actress Elizabeth Olsen has ditched it for good.

No more eyepatch

Thor losing his eye was one of the pivotal moments of Thor: Ragnarok. It also signaled a new, Odin-style look for the character, along with his haircut and losing the cape. It was a long time coming for a hero that hasn't really changed his physical appearance since the character was first introduced in 2011. However, Infinity War didn't waste much time in giving Thor his eye back--someone else's false eye, to be clear--making the eyepatch a thing of the past.

Out with the hammer, in with the axe

Another major development in Ragnarok was the destruction of Thor's hammer, Mjölnir. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige explained upon the movie's release that it was one of the things the studio wanted to change about Thor as the character evolved. In the movie, Thor was able to embrace his powers without a hammer to do the heavy-lifting. Infinity War went back on that particular development, though, as he now has the Stormbreaker axe to harness his energy.

A long-forgotten villain isn't quite so dead

When Captain America: The First Avenger first hit theaters in 2011, many fans lamented at how unimportant the villainous Red Skull ended up being. He was dispatched by Cap in the movie and never heard from again--until now. According to Infinity War, instead of dying, Red Skull actually ended up becoming the protector of the Soul Stone. That brought him and Thanos together for one devious sequence in the movie, as the former HYDRA leader led the Mad Titan to his next Infinity Stone.

Rhodes gets his legs back thanks to technology

Following the events of Civil War, Rhodey was left paralyzed after the War Machine suit crashed from a very high altitude. The end of the movie shows him using a pair of mechanized leg braces to help him learn to start walking again. Fast forward to Infinity War, where there's no sign that he once lost the ability to walk. The braces have seemingly cured him of any paralysis.

Hulk isn't very nice to Bruce Banner

In Ragnarok, it's established that Bruce is losing control over when he reverts back to his normal self from the Hulk, alluding to the big green guy being at the wheel, instead. It's such a big piece of the story that he spends a portion of the film refusing to go green, for fear he would never be Bruce again, before finally relenting. For Infinity War, though, the tables have turned. Throughout the movie, Banner tried desperately to transform, but it's Hulk who refuses. Why? It's never really explained. Perhaps he's just humiliated by the smackdown Thanos lays on him at the beginning of the movie.

You're the Iron Spider now, like it or not

As fans know, Infinity War isn't the first time they've seen the Iron Spider costume. At the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter Parker is offered the suit by Tony Stark. He turns it down, though, opting to stick to his neighborhood and learn the ways of a superhero. However, now there's no turning back. He has the suit and he's been to space. Returning to his old costume would be silly.

No Hawkeye or Ant-Man

Infinity War managed to explain the absences of Hawkeye and Ant-Man with a simple line. They cut deals with the government and went home, where they're now under house arrest. How, exactly, that works, is a bit confusing. Civil War ends with Steve Rogers arriving to break his friends out of jail. Did those two just stay behind in hopes that the government that turned on them would start treating them nicely?

Tony Stark and his glowing heart

After Iron Man 3, Tony Stark underwent the surgery to have the arc reactor removed from his chest, leaving future Iron Man suits to be powered by a built-in source. Cut to Infinity War, where Tony has developed nanotechnology for his new suit and it's all powered by, you guessed it, an arc reactor. It's unclear exactly how this new reactor--and the suit it contains--are attached to Tony, but it certainly doesn't seem to be something he can quickly remove.

Thor's fake Infinity Gauntlet

Fans first saw the Infinity Gauntlet in Thor, then again in Ragnarok, when Hela declared it was a fake. While that clears up how Thanos has the real deal, there's a problem. In Infinity War, it's revealed that Eitri created it for Thanos on Nidavellir--meaning it didn't exist in Thor and there would likely be no fakes. That's one little plot hole the movie never addresses.

That other Infinity Gauntlet

Likewise, Infinity War never explains how Thanos already has the gauntlet in the Avengers: Age of Ultron post-credits scene.

Thanos's motivations in Avengers vs. Infinity War

In a post-credits scene from Marvel's Avengers, The Other tells Thanos that humans are stronger than they thought. "They are unruly and therefore cannot be ruled," he tells the Mad Titan. Is Thanos trying to rule over Earth or wipe out half of its population? Clearly, by the time Infinity War rolls around, the villain has his plan in place. It seems like it was a very different one than earlier in the MCU, though.

Avengers: Infinity War -- Every Major MCU Character Missing From Marvel's New Movie

By Chris E. Hayner on May 07, 2018 10:08 pm

Avengers: Infinity War is missing some very important characters

Avengers: Infinity War boasts an enormous cast--it's bursting at the seams with characters both new and old. It features existing members of the Avengers teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy and the people of Wakanda. With a villain as powerful as Thanos to deal with, it makes sense that such a powerful group of individuals would be needed to stop him. But what about all of the characters who still didn't managed to make the cut for the big new movie? This is where you should stop reading if you haven't seen the movie, as we're about to dive pretty deep into spoiler territory--consider yourself warned.

It could easily be argued that Infinity War included too many characters for its nearly three-hour running time. However, there were some faces fans had their hope on that were nowhere to be found. Instead, the Marvel Cinematic Universe faithful are forced to wait a year to see whether or not Thanos turned them to dust of if they'll be able to join the fight in Avengers 4.

After watching Avenger: Infinity War too many times to count, GameSpot has come up with the definitive list of characters we were sad to see didn't take part in the battle against the big, purple jerk. Some of them seem like smart and powerful additions to the crew; others are named Korg and we love him too much to leave him out.

Separately, there have been enough questions about one Guardians of the Galaxy side character--Kraglin--to warrant an official answer from James Gunn. Spoilers: No, he's not in the movie, but that doesn't mean he died during the four-year gap between Guardians 2 and Infinity War.

We don't yet know most of the faces we'll see in 2019's Avengers 4--whatever it ends up being called--but the cast may have some room for expansion after Infinity War killed off so many characters when Thanos snapped his fingers. Avengers 4 arrives in theaters on May 3, 2019.

Valkyrie

Last seen in: Thor: Ragnarok

While at least half of the surviving Asgardians were wiped out by Thanos in search of the Tesseract--and half of those turned to dust when the Mad Titan snapped his fingers, in theory--many fans were expecting Tessa Thompson's breakout Ragnarok character to play some role in the right for the universe. Hopefully, that changes in Avengers 4.

Grandmaster

Last seen in: Thor: Ragnarok

It's hard to know where Infinity War could have fit Grandmaster in, but every MCU movie needs a taste of Jeff Goldblum now. Given that he's the brother of the Collector--whose death is alluded to in the film--a case can be made for him to appear.

Hawkeye

Last seen in: Captain America: Civil War

Hawkeye was the sad question mark looming over Infinity War. He's an original member of the Avengers who didn't appear. The movie explains his absence with a throwaway line--he's under house arrest--but it really wasn't enough. All of existence was at stake.

Laura Barton

Last seen in: Avengers: Age of Ultron

You might not have expected Laura to appear in the film. However, the actress who plays her, Linda Cardellini, appeared in a promotional photoshoot for the film. If Hawkeye is still under house arrest, chances are she'll show up soon.

Ant-Man

Last seen in: Captain America: Civil War

As with Hawkeye, Ant-Man is on house arrest during Infinity War. Which is unfortunate, because he would have been a useful weapon against Thanos.

The Wasp

Last seen in: Ant-Man

While Hope van Dyne's Wasp alter ego hasn't been properly introduced yet--it was teased in the Ant-Man post-credits sequence--Infinity War could have been an intriguing way to integrate her into the MCU. Think of what Captain America: Civil War did for Spider-Man. Now the question remains of how Ant-Man and the Wasp fit into Marvel's timeline after Infinity War.

Hank Pym

Last seen in: Ant-Man

It's not so much that fans were expecting Hank Pym to show up and be part of the fight against Thanos. Instead, it's that they were told as much by Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier). In an interview to promote the film, Stan claimed he filmed a battle scene that included Michael Douglas as Hank. Perhaps he was mistaken and it was actually for Avengers 4.

Janet van Dyne

Last seen in: Ant-Man

As with her on-screen husband, Sebastian Stan also teased that Michelle Pfeiffer would be in the massive battle scene as Janet van Dyne, mother of Hope and the original Wasp. And yet, there's no mention of her anywhere in the film.

Korg

Last seen in: Thor: Ragnarok

Like Valkyrie, Korg garnered quite a few fans in Thor: Ragnarok. What's more, he survived the destruction of Asgard and was last seen traveling through space with Thor and the rest of the gang. However, he's not mentioned when Thanos destroys the ship or at any point after that. He's definitely not dead, though. Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, has confirmed that much.

Miek

Last seen in: Thor: Ragnarok

Much like his big buddy Korg, Miek is alive and well--for now, anyway. It's just unclear exactly where he's at. Our money is on wherever Korg wound up.

Sharon Carter (Agent 13)

Last seen in: Captain America: Civil War

The last time Sharon Carter was in the picture, she was making out with a fugitive Captain America after helping him steal government property. However, she went back to her job at the CIA. Sharon could have been an interesting source of information for Cap and the rest of the team--given that the CIA knows everything. Alas, there is no mention of her anywhere in the film.

Happy Hogan

Last seen in: Spider-Man: Homecoming

Pepper Potts, who made a cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming, got a nice moment in Infinity War. What was missing, though, was Happy Hogan. After playing some sort of mentor to Spider-Man and acting as Tony Stark's right-hand man for so long, it felt strange to not see him in the movie.

W'Kabi

Last seen in: Black Panther

The Wakandan absences are the most noticeable in the movie. W'Kabi, for instance, is one of the country's fiercest warriors--and he serves at the hand of the king. While that didn't work out when Killmonger was reigning, it's a little surprising he didn't end up back on the front lines with his entire nation in danger.

Nakia

Last seen in: Black Panther

Likewise, where was Nakia? In Black Panther, she showed herself to be quite a fierce warrior--which is something the Avengers and Wakanda could have used more of. While it's possible she was on assignment in another country, her not being there was glaring.

War Rhinos

Last seen in: Black Panther

Yes, the vibranium-plated rhinos in Black Panther were silly and the CGI that brought them to life wasn't the best. However, when you're fighting a power as massive as the Black Order, why wouldn't you send them into battle to mow the enormous monsters down?

Phil Coulson

Last seen in: Agents of SHIELD

Sure, Coulson has been largely banished to the Marvel TV universe. However, Clark Gregg has been announced to be bringing everyone's favorite SHIELD agent back to the big screen in Captain Marvel. Would it have been so hard to have him in the car with Maria Hill and Nick Fury during the post-credits scene?

Nova Corp

Last seen in: Guardians of the Galaxy

When they were last seen, the Nova Corp was taking care of the Power Stone on Xandar. Of course, that's before Thanos came to town, took the stone, the decimated half of the planet. Still, that doesn't mean members of the Nova Corps didn't survive--specifically Nova Prime.

Kraglin

Last seen in: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Though Sean Gunn appeared in Infinity War as the motion capture performer responsible for Rocket--as he's done in both Guardians movies--his character Kraglin was nowhere in sight. That's a bit concerning, given that he was last seen cruising through space with Star-Lord and the rest of the gang. Thankfully, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn promises Kraglin is alive and well. The MCU isn't done with him yet.

Adam Warlock

Last mentioned in: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn made it clear before the movie released that Adam Warlock would not appear in Infinity War. Still, given the character's connection to the Infinity Gauntlet in the comics, many fans expected he would be where the Soul Stone came from. Looks like you'll have to wait for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to get a look at Adam.

The Defenders

Last seen in: Marvel's Defenders

Yes, the Netflix shows take place in the MCU. No, they never crossover and probably never will. If it didn't happen in Infinity War, the biggest entry in the MCU yet, it's never going to happen. Let's all collectively agree to move on.

Shuri

Last seen in: Avengers: Infinity War

Alright, this is a cheat. Shuri was in Infinity War. How could she possibly be on this list? Because there simply wasn't enough of her. While operating on Vision is an important role to play in the movie, the viewing public demands more of this amazing character.

Fortnite Skins For Season 4 And More Battle Pass Rewards Revealed

Every Battle Pass Reward In Season 4 Of Fortnite

With the release of the big 4.0 update, Epic Games kicked off Season 4 of Fortnite: Battle Royale. That came with a new Battle Pass for players to purchase on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile, meaning there are new rewards to obtain--including skins, emotes, dances, sprays, and more. Here's everything you need to know about all of this, including how to get that much-coveted Omega skin at level 100.

Rewards are for the most part only available to those who buy the the Battle Pass. It's priced at 950 V-Bucks, which is just under $10 / £8. As you play and level up, you'll earn more rewards, but you can speed up the whole process by completing the Season 4 challenges. Although the majority of those come in the form of "weekly" challenges, you have the entire season to complete them. Season 4 runs through July 9.

Among the items you'll find in the premium tier of the Battle Pass are new skins, gliders, emotes, and loading screens. Also new are sprays, a type of cosmetic introduced in this patch that allow you to essentially spraypaint an image onto an object in the world. In the images above, you can see all of the major new items included in the Season 4 Battle Pass. Bear in mind, these are all cosmetic; nothing will actually impact gameplay directly.

Another wrinkle is the limited number of skins that can be customized with different "styles." This is true of both the aforementioned Omega skin, as well as the Carbide skin you get immediately by purchasing the Battle Pass. With Carbide, you'll earn different styles by completing Carbide challenges, which simply involves hitting certain level milestones. Each specific challenge grants you a particular style, while there's also a Carbide pickaxe you can earn by completing three of these challenges.

In terms of playable content, Fortnite has received numerous additions in recent months. Epic has consistently added new content to the game, including new weapons, items, map areas, limited-time modes, and more. Additionally, the infamous comet has finally hit, changing areas of the map and introducing gravity-defying Hop Rocks.

The comet's impact has specifically created Dusty Divot, but there's also the new Risky Reels area shown in the Season 4 trailer. More intriguing are the hidden underground bases that players have already begun to discover. One of these houses a large missile silo and generally looks to be a sort of supervillain lair. It's unclear how this factors into the ongoing "story" of sorts that Battle Royale is home to, but Epic clearly has plans to continue evolving the game outside of new weapons and things of that nature.

20 New Things We Learned In Westworld Season 2, Episode 3, "Virtù e Fortuna."

By Michael Rougeau on May 07, 2018 07:30 am

Westworld Season 2 spoilers ahead!

We've spent most of Westworld Season 2 so far catching up with existing characters, seeing new scenes from the past, and following plots from Season 1 like Dolores's revolution and William's journey through Ford's games. But Westworld Season 2, Episode 3, "Virtù e Fortuna," finally showed us some things that are truly new.

It wasn't Shogun World, like we've been waiting to see since Westworld Season 1. But it was a new park: India World, or Empire World, or whatever it winds up being called, which appears to be set during the British Empire occupation of India, the time of big beige hats, Bengal tiger hunts, and elephant gun safaris. And the characters there, whoever they may be, had just as bad a time as those in Westworld when Ford kicked off his final game.

That cold open also demonstrated where that tiger seen in the Season 2 premiere came from, and by the end we learned that the mysterious woman--a guest who clearly knows her way around the place--survived to claw her way out of the water. No doubt she'll pop up again, also judging by the way she conspicuously kept fretting over her notebook. The camera lingered on it enough times in this episode's opening that you have to wonder what it contains.

But that wasn't all. Keep reading to find out all the new things we learned about what's going on in Westworld this week, and when you're done, don't forget to read our full Westworld Season 2, Episode 3 review as well.

1. There's an "India World."

Or whatever it winds up being called. So that's where our tiger friend from the first episode came from.

2. There's a security system, and it's malfunctioning.

We knew this in theory, but we hadn't seen it in action before. It looks like some sort of laser security system is supposed to keep things like this from happening, and it's definitely not working.

3. There's something called "The Cradle."

And someone took it out.

4. Charlotte survived to the present.

What happened in the nearly two weeks between the start of the slaughter and now?

5. The Milky Bandit is a good guy now.

Thank you so much for this scene, Bernard.

6. Abernathy is not doing so hot.

Smooth moves, ex-lax.

7. Dolores is going by Wyatt now.

Or maybe she's switching back and forth? Either way, her Wyatt side seems to be taking control more and more.

8. Clementine is like a crazy zombie person now?

She's not looking so hot either. Wonder if she's going to get a line this season?

9. Westworld's big fort is called "Fort Forlorn Hope."

Wonder why.

10. Sizemore's outfit is still ridiculous.

Nice one, Maeve.

11. The Ghost Nation is still out for blood.

These guys were up to no good in Westworld Season 1, and it seems they're still out for blood in Season 2. With the Ghost Nation warriors popping up a couple of times this episode, maybe we're finally about to find out how Stubbs survived their attack.

12. Maeve can't control every host.

Maeve exerted an iron will over hosts in the first episode, but she failed to influence the Ghost Nation warriors. It's not yet clear why that might be.

13. Dolores is still clinging to parts of her old life.

Like Maeve and her quest for her daughter, Dolores is finding it difficult to let go of her old, fake life. Or maybe she doesn't want to, even though she knows it wasn't real. Maybe if she does, Wyatt will take over completely.

14. The hosts are choosing what to believe.

That means Maeve gets to choose to believe in her daughter, Dolores gets to choose to believe in Teddy and her father, and Hector gets to choose not to believe in his Isabella backstory.

15. Armistice is alive.

And she has a dragon. And a cool robot arm.

16. Felix and Sylvester are alive too.

Yay?

17. Abernathy has a big file in him.

Abernathy has been malfunctioning because of a "jury-rigged" personality given to him to mask a large file with an "immensely complex encryption key." It seems Bernard might have snagged it, though, before Charlotte made off with the host during the battle.

18. There's a doohickey they can use to tell if someone's human.

Hope they don't use it on Bernard.

19. Teddy is capable of disobeying Dolores.

She's not going to like that one bit.

20. There's a "Klondike narrative."

Likely referring to the Klondike Gold Rush that took place in the Klondike region of the Yukon in north-western Canada between 1896 and 1899. Not that it's likely to come up again, with all signs pointing to this final scene taking place on the border between Westworld and Shogun World.

WWE Backlash 2018 Predictions: Samoa Joe Squashes Roman Reigns

By Mat Elfring on May 07, 2018 04:38 am

Time for another PPV, just nine days after Greatest Royal Rumble. On Sunday, May 6, Backlash will come to PPV and the WWE Network from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. At least women will be allowed to compete at this show, which starts at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT. As always, a Kickoff Show will air both the WWE Network and YouTube one hour before the main card.

The big deal with Backlash is that it will consist of both Raw and Smackdown superstars, as all WWE events from now on will feature wrestlers from both shows. Additionally, there are a couple crossover matches at this event, including one for the Intercontinental Championship. The main event for the evening will be Raw's Roman Reigns vs. Smackdown's Samoa Joe, who recently returned from injury.

Luckily, because of the new dual-branded PPVs, the next WWE event won't be until June 17 for Money In The Bank, which will be in Rosemont, IL. This will help cut back the big events from 16 in 2017 to 12 in 2018. More could be announced for this year, but that's currently how many WWE has on the docket. For now, however, there is Backlash, and make sure to come back to GameSpot on Sunday for live coverage of the event.

Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn aren't making any friends since moving to Raw a few weeks ago. Now, they'll have to fight the biggest men on the Monday night show, Bobby Lashley and Braun Strowman. This really feels like a case of Raw trying to find a place for three big stars and strapping Lashley to it just because. Hopefully, this won't be a squash match, and we're giving the win to the big dudes.

Our prediction: Strowman and Lashley win

Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Randy Orton

(For the United States Championship)

Randy Orton will get a rematch for the United States Championship at Backlash, after losing the title at Wrestlemania. Both men are Grand Slam Champions, meaning they've held four of the major WWE titles during their careers. During an episode of MizTV, The Miz tried stirring the pot between Hardy and Orton, which didn't go to Miz's liking. This match is being booked as a pretty straightforward face vs. face match. This is early in Hardy's run with the title, so I'm giving the win to him, so he can keep his solo run going.

Our prediction: Jeff Hardy wins

Daniel Bryan vs. Big Cass

Every WWE fan is waiting for Daniel Bryan to take on The Miz, and we'll get there. However, standing in Bryan's way is Big Cass, who just returned after injury and is super jealous that Bryan's return is getting all the attention. Will Cass get his revenge for Bryan stealing his spotlight? Alright, this storyline is weird and forced, but I like that it's a speedbump on the way to Bryan fighting Miz. This won't be a one-and-done match though. Cass will get the win here, and the two will have a rivalry, leading into Money in the Bank.

Our prediction: Cass wins

Carmella (c) vs. Charlotte

(For the Smackdown Women's Championship)

At the Smackdown after Wrestlemania, Carmella cashed in her Money in the Bank contract and won the Smackdown Women's Championship; however, she couldn't have done it if the IIconics [sic] hadn't given Charlotte a huge beating in the ring prior to the match. Now, Charlotte wants a rematch, and she'll get one at Backlash. Carmella is known for winning big events using classic heel tactics, so I am thinking that's going to happen one more time here.

Our prediction: Carmella wins

Seth Rollins (c) vs. The Miz

(For the Intercontinental Championship)

If Miz doesn't win this match, this will probably be the last time we see him have a battle for the IC Championship for now. Seth Rollins is still a new champion and already has a bit of a friendly rivalry going on with Finn Balor. Because Miz is now on Smackdown, where the United States Championship is, I'm giving the win to Rollins, so he can progress on the Monday night show.

Our prediction: Rollins wins

Nia Jax (c) vs. Alexa Bliss

(For the Raw Women's Championship)

Much like the Smackdown Women's Championship, Raw's title is on a new face, and before the champ can move on to a new contender, the past rivalry has to be wrapped up. However, the battle between Nia Jax and Alexa Bliss is far from over. There is a lot of bad blood between the two, but Jax won't come out on top this time. Bliss will come out the victor, and the two will have a rubber match at Money in the Bank in June.

Our prediction: Bliss wins after interference

AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (No DQ Match)

(For the WWE Championship)

If seeing AJ Styles get punched in the crotch when the ref isn't looking is your thing, then you'll love this match. The Styles/Nakamura rivalry has been phenomenal--pun intended. Both these men are fantastic storytellers in the ring and the rivalry between them has been the highlight of Smackdown. This will be the third match between the two, with Styles winning the first one and the second ending with a double countout. I'm thinking Nakamura will win here, and the two will fight each other, one more time, at the next PPV.

Our prediction: Nakamura wins

Secondary prediction: Styles gives a low blow to Nakamura

Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe

Brock Lesnar has been throwing around Roman Reigns like a ragdoll, even though Reigns should have won the cage match at Greatest Royal Rumble. Reigns has made it known he's frustrated with the champion and the WWE Universe deserves better, but he's full of excuses. That's where Samoa Joe comes in: He's had enough of Reigns' recent complaints and wants to shut him up the only way he knows how. There aren't a lot of stakes in this match, and it's more of a homecoming for Joe, who's been injured for months. Because of this, I think Joe is getting the win.

Our prediction: Joe wins
