In March, it was announced that Iron Man and Jungle Book director Jon Favreau was developing a new live-action Star Wars TV show. The show will premiere on Disney's upcoming streaming platform and now Favreau has revealed some more details about it.
Favreau was speaking at the premiere of the new spin-off movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, in which he has a voice role. The actor and filmmaker stated that the show will be set seven years after the events of 1983's Return of the Jedi, and would feature new characters. The news comes via Nerdist, who also stated that the show will feature the same digital technology used for the animal characters in The Jungle Book.
Although the Star Wars show doesn't have a premiere date yet, Disney's streaming service is set to launch in 2019. The series was first announced in November, and in February Disney boss Bob Iger revealed that there were "several" shows in development.
Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy previously stated that Favreau will bring "the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base."
A Star Wars live-action show was in development for several years prior to Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012. Star Wars creator George Lucas was planning a series called Underworld that was to take place between Episode III and Episode IV, and reportedly 50 scripts were written before Disney canceled the project.
In related news, the first Twitter reactions from the Solo premiere are now online. You can check out Gamespot's wrap-up of them here.
Now, with Solo: A Star Wars Story heading to theaters, some information about the events leading to Trevorrow's dismissal has been revealed. According to the Wall Street Journal, at the heart of the matter was the scripts being turned in to Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy.
While Trevorrow was hired based on his pitch to Kennedy, Disney president Alan Horn and Disney CEO Bob Iger, the scripts simply weren't up to snuff. The WSJ reports that Kennedy was unhappy with the drafts Trevorrow co-wrote, as well as one from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child playwright Jack Thorne. While Trevorrow was keen to try again, Kennedy opted to fire him instead.
From there, the search was on for a new director. While Abrams ended up with the role, he wasn't necessarily the first person Lucasfilm went to. Also on their list was Rian Johnson, who was fresh off of directing Star Wars: The Last Jedi--and who will tackle his own trilogy of Star Wars films after Episode IX. According to Johnson, though, any discussions about his helming the film were not serious.
In the end, Abrams took the job, which brings him full circle in the Star Wars universe. After launching a new trilogy, he'll now bring it to a close. "I had a bunch of ideas from the beginning, back on VII, of where the story would go," he tells the WSJ. "I just never in my wildest dreams thought I would have a chance to execute them."
Of course, fans are going to have to wait a while to see how he executes those ideas. Star Wars: Episode IX is in theaters on December 20, 2019.
BioWare is best known for its work on single-player games, although it does have some experience on the multiplayer side as well. With Anthem seemingly being designed as EA's answer to Destiny, multiplayer appears to be a big focus. But for those who are more interested in going about things on their own, the game will also be playable solo.
In the latest blog post from BioWare boss Casey Hudson, the company's updated mission statement is outlined: "We create worlds of adventure, conflict, and companionship that inspire you to become the hero of your story." Hudson emphasized the companionship part, as he says the company's games are meant to feature other characters on your adventures--whether those are AI- or human-controlled.
"However we design it, we always want to capture the special feeling of being on a journey with memorable companions," Hudson said. "I talked last time about Anthem being 'a story you can experience with friends.' There were, understandably, some questions and concerns about story in multiplayer. Specifically, 'What if I don't want to play with randos?' 'What if I don't have friends that I play games with?' And, 'I like to be the one making choices in my story--if it's multiplayer, won't the story get watered down?'"
Hudson attempted to dispel any concerns over this, admitting that they are things he worries about as a player as well. He called attention to the "become the hero of your story" aspect of BioWare's mission statement, saying that you as an individual should be creating a character and deciding what happens.
"I think the reason people are concerned about whether these things are possible in a multiplayer game is because it just hasn't been solved well before," he said. "With Anthem we're taking this problem head-on and structuring the entire game design to provide a specific solution for this."
Unfortunately, Hudson didn't actually explain just how this problem is being tackled. These details will be shared "very soon," but he said that you don't have to worry about being forced to engage in multiplayer.
"We think it creates a unique experience where you have control over your own story, but your story is set in an ever-changing multiplayer world," he said. "And yes, even though Anthem is meant to bring out the best parts of playing as part of an online community, you can choose to play through the story with only your friends, or even on your own.
"It's true--we're trying something really different here. Anthem represents one way to deliver innovation and new experiences in the spirit of our mission. We also have teams envisioning future BioWare games, and they're designing approaches that are different from Anthem--including one that's very Dragon Age. As we try new things, I hope that you'll come on the journey with us, and continue asking questions that will help shape Anthem into something we'll all love to play."
Just prior to E3 2018, EA will host its annual EA Play event. BioWare will share "lots more details" on Anthem there, presumably including more on what Hudson outlined in the blog post. We still know very little about the game, but its release is approaching quickly--after a delay that pushed it out of 2018, it's now due out by March 2019. EA also plans to have some kind of early access or beta test for the game, although specifics on that also remain unknown.
A new Battlefield game is coming this year and it will be playable at E3 2018 next month, but the game has still yet to be officially announced. EA continues to tease the project, today saying that it will be a "deep and fully featured shooter" that features an "ongoing service" of some kind. The game is in development at series creator DICE in Sweden. [Update: It now looks as if the new Battlefield will be revealed soon.]
"With our next Battlefield game, the team at DICE is bringing the intensity of combat to life in new and unexpected ways," EA CEO Andrew Wilson said during an earnings call. "Every battle is unique, and every mode brings its own challenges--from the way you interact with the environment around you, to compelling single-player stories, to the next level of large-scale multiplayer that spans across multiple maps and modes."
"This will be a deep and fully featured shooter and ongoing service that will evolve with major new experiences for our community, beginning right from launch," he explained. "Building on the success of Battlefield 1 and taking inspiration from DICE's core DNA, this new game will advance the state of the art for the franchise, while still delivering the signature gameplay and Battlefield moments that have captivated and grown our global community."
"All of the things that a Battlefield fan would expect out of a multiplayer game from DICE in the Battlefield universe will be there, while additional innovations in how we're thinking about the future of multiplayer in first-person shooters will also be there, both at launch and over time as part of a live service."
If EA does return to WWII with the next Battlefield, it will be the first in the series set during that era since 2009's Battlefield 1943. 2016's Battlefield 1 was set during World War I.
During a Q&A with investors that followed EA's earnings report today, CFO Blake Jorgensen said EA is not scared to launch the new Battlefield game during the busy holiday period. "We've been able to compete against others like Call of Duty in the past," he said, and this year should be no different, the executive added. He went on to say that Battlefield has a "very strong" player community. He said he believes fans will be "extremely excited" about the game.
That being said, Jorgensen said EA's financial guidance for the holiday quarter includes some "conservatism" due to the crowded release calendar. The holiday season every year is always busy and crowded, and this year Red Dead Redemption 2 is in the mix as well.
An analyst asked Jorgensen specifically about if the new Battlefield game might get delayed to give it some breathing room against the competition. Jorgensen did not answer this directly, but he said EA will announce the game's "exact timing" i.e. its release date, in the coming weeks and months, potentially during E3.
It was only back in February that Michael Mauler, a longtime GameStop executive, was named the retailer's new chief executive officer. Now, just over three months later, he's stepped down from the role for what's only described as "personal reasons."
The 56-year-old Mauler's resignation is effective immediately. In his place, co-founder Daniel DeMatteo assumes the role of interim CEO while GameStop once again begins the hunt for a new top executive.
"Given my tenure and familiarity with the company and our associates, it's a natural step for me to assume this role and guide the business at this time while the board searches for a permanent CEO," DeMatteo said in a statement released by GameStop. "I'm happy to have Rob Lloyd, our CFO, and his 22 years of experience with GameStop alongside me as we work towards executing against our 2018 objectives. We continue to believe in GameStop and the many passionate associates that drive our business and are encouraged by the opportunities ahead of us."
DeMatteo previously served as the interim CEO when J. Paul Raines was forced to step down due to health issues last year. Raines passed away earlier this year, shortly after Mauler became CEO. GameStop's statement makes little mention of Mauler or his work over the past few months, merely saying he was leaving for personal reasons.
GameStop overall has struggled of late, with its forecast for the coming year causing some concern among investors. Its stock stands as $12.55 as of this writing, roughly half of what it was a year ago, and a fraction of its previous highs in 2007 and 2013. As a brick-and-mortar retail that has traditionally specialized in physical games, it faces an uphill battle, with recent years seeing the company attempting to diversify into areas like mobile phone and collectible sales, as well as seeking to inject itself into the increasingly digital games industry.

As is the case every week, Destiny 2's mysterious merchant Xur has arrived--this time on Nessus--with another slate of items to purchase. This is a more significant visit than usual, as it's Xur's first appearance since Bungie released the game's second DLC expansion, Warmind. That introduced new Exotics and a variety of other content to get your hands on, including one new Warmind Exotic.
In terms of items, Xur has his usual array: there's one piece of Exotic armor for each class and one weapon. The weapon comes from Curse of Osiris, rather than Warmind; it's Prometheus Lens, the trace rifle that was terribly broken once upon a time. It also just got some tweaks in update 1.2.0 to make it more worthwhile. Its intrinsic trait is Prismatic Inferno, which builds up damage the longer it fires.
As for armor, it's Titans who luck out with a new piece of Warmind gear. Ashen Wake is a cool-looking set of gauntlets whose main perk is Bring the Heat, which causes Fusion grenades to explode on impact and can be thrown more quickly. Warlock's Vesper of Radius chest armor comes with Planetary Torrent, which causes Rifts to let out a shockwave and recharge more quickly when enemies are nearby. Hunter's Knucklehead Radar has Upgraded Sensor Pack, which lets you see your radar while aiming. Read on for a look at everything Xur has to offer.
Ashen Wake (Exotic Titan Gauntlets) -- 23 Legendary Shards
Fated Engram -- 97 Legendary Shards
Three of Coins -- 31 Legendary Shards
Five of Swords (Challenge Card) -- free
As always, the Fated Engram is an expensive option, but it guarantees to decrypt into an Exotic you don't already own. The Three of Coins increases your odds of receiving an Exotic while playing for four hours after using it, while the Five of Swords is a challenge card that lets you activate modifiers in Nightfall Strikes on Prestige.
To find Xur on Nessus, you'll want to head to the Watcher's Grave Landing Zone and then jump on your sparrow and head straight. After riding for a few seconds, you'll see a giant tree, where Xur is waiting up in the branches. Your best way is to scale the side of the tree starting near the base of it.
Destiny 2's Warmind DLC is now available, as is the big 1.2.0 update. Whereas Warmind introduced new content--letting players venture to Mars, try out the new Escalation Protocol activity, and play through a new Raid Lair--the update made changes for all players, DLC owner or not. It revamps numerous Exotics, vastly improving some of them, and permitting players access to all Crucible maps in public matchmaking. It also introduced new Crucible progression systems and made a variety of other changes.
Rockstar Games' follow-up to the seminal Red Dead Redemption is fast approaching. Set 12 years before the events of the original game, Red Dead Redemption II will explore an expansive region of the American wilderness, with Dutch Van der Linde's gang on the run from lawmen during the last years of the wild west. Experiencing Rockstar's take on the open-world western from a new perspective, you'll uncover the history of the Van Der Linde gang, which has a young John Marston in its thralls.
Despite the game releasing in only a few months on PS4 and Xbox One, we're still largely in the dark about what we can expect from the massive open-world game. Still, the recent trailers, screenshots, and info have given us plenty to talk about. Here's everything we know so far about Rockstar Games' upcoming open-world western.
How Can I Play RDR2?
Red Dead Redemption 2 is set for release on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One. Unfortunately, there's still no word on a PC release--which the original game never saw a release for. There are also plans for a collector's edition of the game, which will be revealed at a later date.
Where Is RDR2 Set, And Is It A Prequel?
Set 12 years before the main events of original game, the prequel focuses on the outlaw life of the Van der Linde gang, led by Red Dead Redemption's main antagonists. After a robbery in Blackwater (one of the original game's major towns) goes bad--the gang finds themselves on the run. Dutch, his right-hand man Arthur Morgan, and several members of the gang will have to contend with life on-the-run while their situation grows more desperate after each confrontation with rival gangs and the law.
Rockstar also released a description of the plot:
America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed. After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.
The First Reveal
Debuting on October 20, 2016, the first trailer for Red Dead Redemption II was a bit of a mood piece that showcased many locales in the game, while also displaying the somber tone of the main narrative. In this trailer, we saw several towns and locales, many of which are teeming with life and activity--such as ranchers rustling up some cattle, huntsmen bringing back their haul, and a group of citizens hanging out in the general store.
Who Are We Playing As?
Though the central character of Red Dead Redemption, John Marston, plays some role in the story--the main protagonist of the prequel is Arthur Morgan. As Dutch's right-hand man and enforcer for the gang, he'll handle much of the daily duties of keeping the gang in-check--which includes a young and less-experienced John Marston. When it comes to keeping the gang and its community afloat, Morgan is quite handy with picking up various jobs to ensure everyone is well fed and in good spirits. But as the story progresses, he'll begin to question his own resolve for Dutch's way of life, and whether he still has a place in the gang.
The Second Trailer
On September 28, 2017, the second trailer for Red Dead Redemption II debuted. In the new footage, we got to see more of Arthur Morgan and how ruthless he can be while on the job. During some of the story cutscenes, Morgan will use coercion and physical threats to collect money and information, all for the "benefit" of the community.
For more info on this particular trailer, check out our detailed breakdown.
Who's In Dutch's Gang?
In Red Dead Redemption II, we'll see Dutch's gang and its key players in their prime. While the original game had John hunt down and kill the remaining members of the gang, we'll see many the familiar faces in relatively happier times. From the most recent trailer, we see Dutch Van der Linde, Arthur Morgan, Bill Williamson, Javier Esquela, and of course John Marston in the roster. We'll also interact with other characters who would have a key role in the gang and in the lives of Arthur Morgan and John Marston.
What's New In Red Dead Redemption 2?
While the sequel is largely in the same vein as its predecessor, focusing on exploration, hunting, shoot-outs, heists, and other side-activities where you'll interact with a number of unique characters--Red Dead Redemption II features a far more expansive world to dive into. Rockstar has been tight-lipped about spilling any details. However, from what we've gleaned from trailers and official info, we can tell there's a greater focus on tracking the impact you have on the world. The honor system from the original game makes a return, but now with far more detailed tracking. Along with the average citizen, members of your community will also react to how well or how poorly you treat them. As the lead enforcer, Morgan will have to handle a ton of responsibilities, such as resource gathering, procuring funds, and making sure everyone in the community is happy.
How will online multiplayer work?
Currently, Rockstar hasn't shared any info on how the online play will function. The original Red Dead Redemption featured online free-for-all and team deathmatch style gameplay in the open world, along with several co-op themed missions. While it's safe to assume that these sorts of missions will return, another long-lingering rumor is the appearance of a battle royale mode. In the coming months before its release, we should expect to hear more about what Red Dead Redemption II will have when it comes to online.
The Third Trailer
In the new footage released on May 2, we saw a deeper look into the game's narrative and how the gang functions. Along with the familiar activities like hunting, heists, and side-quests with the region's citizens, rob trains and banks, and take in shows at theaters. For the most part, the trailer focuses on the many connections you'll have the members of the gang, and how your choices will affect them.

Miramar returns for another round of testing in the Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. For a limited time, players will have another chance to try the new desert map on console before it officially arrives later this month.
As before, anyone who owns PUBG on Xbox One will be able to participate in the Miramar test. However, you won't be able to get in to the test through the main client; rather, you'll have to download the PUBG Test Server from the Xbox Store, which will be available to everyone who has purchased the game.
The test is scheduled to run from now until May 13 or 14, depending on where you live, although developer PUBG Corp. notes that "servers can go down for maintenance at any time." You can find the exact test schedule at the bottom of this story. The test is available in Solo, Duo, and Squad in both first-person and third-person perspectives.
This marks the third round of testing Miramar has received on Xbox One. The previous tests took place back in April and were divided up into several sessions, which could only be accessed during certain times. Unlike those, this weekend's test will be available continuously until it is scheduled to end (again, barring maintenance).
PUBG players on PC can also jump into their own test this weekend. From now until May 14, PUBG Corp. is hosting the third round of testing for the game's smaller Savage map, now known as Sanhok. This time, the map features four new areas, while existing areas have received "various improvements." You can read about the other changes to Sanhok here.
The third round of testing for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds's new Sanhok map (formerly known as Codename: Savage) is now underway on PC. For the next few days, everyone who's purchased PUBG on Steam will be able to try the smaller island map, which boasts a number of changes for this test.
As developer PUBG Corp. detailed in the patch notes for the third Sanhok test, the map now features four new areas: Cave, Tambang, Lakawi, Na Kham. To go along with the map's new name, PUBG Corp. has also renamed all of the existing areas on Sanhok, and several of them have received "various improvements" since the last round of testing.
Additionally, PUBG Corp. has adjusted how the red zone operates. Now, the developer says the red zone will "generally" no longer appear appear within the safe zone. However, this won't always be the case, in particular when the blue circle is near the white one, but PUBG Corp. says this change will make it generally riskier to play outside of the safe zone.
On top of implementing the sweeping balance tweaks it made to weapons recently, PUBG Corp. has also adjusted the spawn rates for certain items on Sanhok. In particular, AR-type weapons should now be more plentiful. The spawn ratio of the M16A4 and AKM have been increased, while the M416 has been slightly decreased--although PUBG Corp. says "the total amount spawned will remain similar to before."
You can read the full list of changes on Steam. The third Sanhok test runs from now until May 14, and as previously mentioned, is open to everyone who has purchased PUBG on Steam. To get into the test, you'll need to download the Experimental Test Server client from your Steam Library. The same client can be used to access future Sanhok tests. You can find the exact start and end times for this round of testing below.
Mojang has announced a date for the big Better Together update to Minecraft on Switch, which will enable the unprecedented ability to earn Xbox achievements on the Nintendo console. The update will drop on June 21.
Microsoft announced the ambitious plan to unify the various versions of Minecraft with cross-play last year, which also meant you'd be signing into an Xbox Live account on each platform. The company then confirmed in a statement that, since you'd be signed into an Xbox Live account, you'd be earning Xbox Live achievements no matter where you are. The Better Together update, also known as the "Bedrock Update" for providing a unified framework, already released on September 20, 2017 for all platforms except Nintendo Switch.
Aside from enabling achievements, the big update allows cross-platform play between the multiple places Minecraft has landed over the years. A new bedrock physical version of Minecraft for Switch will release the day before the update goes live, and current owners of Minecraft on Switch can update to the new version for free.
While the update will allow you to play across platforms, it may not remain free to do so. Nintendo is rolling out its own paid online service later this year, and it will be required for most online games. A handful of games have been confirmed to be gated to paid members, while others will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Minecraft hasn't been announced as one of the games falling under the paid tier, but it very well could be. Nintendo's online service is significantly less than that of other consoles, though, at $20 per year.
Believe it or not, E3 2018 is almost here. The annual gaming extravaganza returns to Los Angeles in June for what is poised to be one of the biggest week's all year for gaming news. Much of the news is expected to come from the various press conferences taking place during the week. Microsoft, Bethesda, and EA have already announced the date and time of their briefings, while Sony has finally confirmed its plans.
EA kicks things off on Saturday, June 9, with its EA Play briefing, while Microsoft and Bethesda will follow on Sunday afternoon and evening, respectively. Ubisoft will follow Monday afternoon, with Sony's presentation expected later that evening. Nintendo then keeps things moving with its briefing on the morning of June 12. We'll be streaming all of these press conferences here on GameSpot as well as on Twitter.
There will be a PC Gaming Show this year as well, while we hope that indie publisher Devolver returns this year because last year's show was bananas. That is scheduled for the afternoon of Monday, June 11.
Below you can see a rundown of the press conference times and dates that we know about. We will continue to update this post in the days and weeks ahead leading up to E3. The show itself runs June 12-14, and like last year, it's open to the public--here's how to get tickets.
In other news, Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed it is attending E3 this year, though this doesn't necessarily mean we'll learn more about the upcoming sci-fi game. Still, its presence could be one of the most exciting parts of this year's show.
The Humble Store is on a roll lately. It's giving away a copy of The Flame in the Flood for free to everyone. It's offering what's shaping up to be a killer Humble Monthly for June. And now it's hosting a massive sale on thousands of games. On top of all that, it's reviving an old Steam tactic that keeps customers coming back day after day.
Before digging into the deals, let's explore the recycled Steam tactic. Between now and May 17, you get a stamp for every $5 you spend on the Humble Store, or for each daily visit you make to the Humble Store home page. Getting one stamp earns you 7% off the game Frostpunk and 10% off a new Humble Monthly subscription (signing up for June's Humble Monthly gets you Destiny 2 now, plus a set of free games when June rolls around). Three stamps gets you a free copy of Millennium: A New Hope, and five stamps gets you Whispering Willows for free.
Now onto the deals. First up, grab The Flame in the Flood for free before it goes back up to full price on May 12. Then you can find a whole host of publisher deals, from companies ranging from Rockstar and Bethesda to Bandai Namco and Sega.
Fortnite Season 4 is officially underway, which means a new Battle Pass and accompanying weekly challenges are available. There are some new wrinkles for this season, but the challenges otherwise work as they have in the past. That said, there is a secret hiding in the Week 1 challenges that is worth tracking down if you're eager to level up and get your hands on the coveted Omega skin as quickly as possible.
Aside from the Battle Stars you earn, doing all seven Week 1 challenges completes the first leg of the Blockbuster challenges, netting you a loading screen called Quiet on the Set. This is part of your loadout, letting you customize what you see during the pre-match loading screen. Reddit user Bfor45 reports that the loading screen offers a very subtle hint about something hiding in the game world.
With moviemaking equipment added to the island in the new update, the image shows a scene being filmed near the prison. In the background, there's the very faint outline of a Battle Pass icon (you can see it below, above the tower just behind the alien's head). You can actually head to that location in-game during a match and find the icon (it's location is pointed out in the map below). Collect it, and it'll rank up your Battle Pass by one level. Take note, however, that you actually need to complete all Week 1 challenges for this to show up; you can't just head there without doing the legwork first. That also means you have to purchase the Season 4 Battle Pass to claim this.
Blockbuster challenges are one of two new categories of challenges for Season 4. Each Blockbuster involves completing all of the challenges in a given week, with each seemingly offering up a loading screen reward like the one mentioned above. Once you do all seven Blockbusters--which won't be possible until more sets of weekly challenges are available--you'll earn some unknown reward that looks as if it might be a special skin. At this point, we don't yet know if future Blockbuster rewards will also lead to secrets like this free Battle Pass tier, but Week 2 certainly does.
Season 4 also offers up Carbide challenges. These are also pretty straightforward, with each one simply requiring you to reach a certain level during the season. They unlock different style options for the Carbide skin, which is granted to players as soon as they purchase the Battle Pass.
Season 4 of Fortnite: Battle Royale is underway. In addition to taking part in matches like normal, that also means there are special challenges to complete. Beyond the regular Starter and weekly challenges, Season 4 also presents some additional ones: Blockbuster and Carbide. Here's everything you need to know and details on all of the challenges revealed so far.
All Fortnite players on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile are eligible to complete the Starter challenges. These are relatively run-of-the-mill and offer different rewards, including Battle Stars and various minor cosmetics. The Battle Stars allow you to rank up the Battle Pass, which is where the vast majority of Season 4 skins and rewards are located, such as the coveted Omega skin pictured below. However, the free tier has a very limited number of goodies on offer. You'll need to purchase the full Season 4 Battle Pass for 950 V-Bucks to be able to obtain all of the rewards as you level up.
Purchasing the Battle Pass also entitles you to all of the weekly challenges. Another set of these opens up each week during the season and can be completed anytime between now and when Season 4 ends on July 9.
That's how things have worked in past seasons, but Season 4 also has new types of challenges. Blockbusters involve completing all of the challenges from a given week. Doing so earns you an additional reward on top of what you'd get from finishing those challenges anyway. The first Blockbuster challenge you finish pays out a loading screen, which serves as a clue that directs you to an in-game location where you can get a free Battle Pass tier. To find that, though, you'll have to actually complete all of the challenges from a week.
Also new in Season 4 are Carbide challenges. One of the rewards you immediately get for buying the Battle Pass is the Carbide skin. As you reach certain level milestones during Season 4, you'll complete Carbide challenges, which unlock different "styles" that let you customize the look of the Carbide skin. Completing three Carbide challenges also nets you a matching pickaxe.
Below, you'll find a complete list of all Season 4 challenges to be revealed so far, along with links to our maps and guides that will help you complete them all.

It's "Business Week" in GTA Online, and with that comes a number of bonuses, events, and sales--as well as free money. Yes, all you have to do is log in to GTA V's multiplayer mode by the end of May 14 and you'll get a gift of $250,000 worth of in-game currency. You'll get an extra $150,000 for each day you log in, through May 14, for a potential total of $1M.
Don't fret if you don't see your cash gift show up right away, as the money will go into your account between May 15 and May 21. Additionally, Rockstar is giving away the Vanilla Unicorn t-shirt and a black Ammu-Nation hat to everyone who logs in to GTA Online by May 14.
In other news, Rockstar is adding the Overflod Tyrant vehicle to GTA Online this week. "We're not sure who's more impressive: the team of engineers who've taken us as close as possible to installing a gear stick and a steering wheel in the front of a hurricane, or the team of lawyers who got it classified as road legal," reads a line from Rockstar's description.
The other new car is the Vapid Domination GTX--and it's a beast. "Half brute force, half pristine performance and all American. When you're looking to make shockwaves through the streets of Southern San Andreas, look no further," Rockstar said about it.
Rockstar also announced that all Contact missions, Rockstar-developed Stunt races, and Special Vehicle circuit challenges will offer GTA$ and RP bonuses this week. Additionally, this week's Premium Race is "Night Ride," while the weekly Time Trial is "Storm Drain."

A new batch of games is now available for Nintendo Switch. This week is fairly light in terms of releases, with only 13 titles arriving the Eshop. And while none are quite as big as last week's major release, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, they include a few gems that are worth a look if you need something new to play on Nintendo's hybrid console.
Headlining this week's Switch releases is WayForward's well-received platformer, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition. This version of the game packages the base adventure together will all of its DLC costumes and expansions. Also available on Switch this week is One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 Deluxe Edition, the Dynasty Warriors-style action game set in the One Piece universe. This edition likewise packs the base game together with all of its DLC missions and costumes.
Other notable releases this week include the atmospheric side-scrolling adventure game, The Fall; the pixel co-op zombie survival game, Death Road to Canada; the not-nearly-as-grim-as-it-sounds puzzle-adventure game, Suicide Guy; the affecting interactive story Three Fourths Home; and the retro-style top-down shooter, Hyper Sentinel. You can find the full list of this week's Switch releases below.
On top of the aforementioned titles, Nintendo has added a free demo of its Switch fighting game Arms to the Eshop. Unlike the previous Arms Global Testpunch demo, which effectively served as a network beta as it could only be accessed during certain times and let players compete against each other in online matches, the new demo can be played any time and features a selection of stages from the single-player mode.
Iron Man might be one of Marvel's mightiest heroes, but it doesn't mean he can't be the victim of common theft. It has been reported that the suit worn by actor Robert Downey Jr in the original Iron Man has been stolen from storage in Los Angeles.
According to the LA Times, the suit is believed to have been taken from a movie prop storage facility in Pacoima, LA. sometime between February and April 25. The burglary is being investigated by LAPD's Foothill Division, and the suit is reportedly valued at $325,000.
Iron Man was released in 2008 and marked the first movie in what became the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was one of the year's biggest hits and helped Robert Downey Jr become one of the highest-paid actors in the world. To date, he has appeared as Tony Stark in nine movies in the MCU, including Avengers: Infinity War, which was released at the end of April.
In related news, Infinity War continues to dominate the box office. In the US, it is expected to top the box office charts for the third week in a row, with an estimated take of $50-$60 million. The film has earned $1.2 billion globally to date and is also expected to enjoy a massive boost when it opens in China this weekend.
A new distribution is now underway for Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. From May 4-27, players will be able to add one of the Legendary Pokemon from the Kalos region, Xerneas and Yveltal, to their teams via a free download code.
To claim the download code, players will need to head to a participating retailer and pick one up near the register. In the US, the code will be available from GameStop; UK and Ireland residents can get one from Game stores; and players in Canada and Australia will find the code at EB Games.
The download code can be used in any seventh generation Pokemon title. To redeem it, select Mystery Gift from the games' main menu, then choose the option to receive your gift via a code/password. Input the code and the game will begin downloading your Legendary. You can then pick it up from the deliveryman waiting inside any Pokemon Center.
The Legendary you receive depends on which version you're playing. Those with Sun or Ultra Sun will get the Dark/Flying-type Yveltal, while players with Moon or Ultra Moon will get the Fairy-type Xerneas. If you redeem the code in either of the Ultra games, the Legendary will also come equipped with a Gold Bottle Cap, which can be exchanged to Hyper Train a Pokemon.
Additionally, the Legendaries will come at a higher level if you redeem the code in either of the Ultra games. They'll also know a different moveset depending on the version you're playing. You can take a look at the attacks they'll come with in each game below.

The Pokemon Company is giving away different Legendaries every month in 2018 as part of its Year of Legendary Pokemon promotion. In June, players will be able to get another Legendary from Pokemon X and Y: Zygarde. What makes this Pokemon special is that it will be its shiny variant. Until then, you can see all of the free Pokemon up for grabs right now.
Update 3: The latest teaser image is here, and this one's a bit more on-the-nose than the others. It doesn't have the same pink paint as the earlier ones, but it does show what looks to be a character from Rage standing in line to enter a building with Anarchy Tours on the door. The original Rage came in a special Anarchy Edition, so there is some tie to suggest this is Rage-related. We'll likely get a better idea on May 14.
Update 2: Another teaser has arrived. It shows a busy street in what could be London, following the earlier Big Ben teaser image. Again, we see the same pink color all over the image, though there is seemingly nothing directly tying this to Rage 2.
Update: Bethesda has shared another teaser image on Twitter, further reinforcing the theories that May 14 will bring some kind of announcement. This one features a rocket firing into space with the numbers "5-14" adorned on the side. It's clear that something is coming on Monday.
Rage 2 still seems to be a likely candidate, assuming the Walmart listing for it was not an error. The smoke left behind the rocket is the same pink color that was used in Bethesda's tweets about the Rage 2 listing. Whether that means anything at this point is unclear, but the choice of color between each of these posts is telling. Whether the actual images--the rocket and Big Ben--have any meaning remains to be seen. The original story follows the tweet.
Bethesda appears to be teasing an upcoming announcement with a vague image of the Big Ben clocktower in London, England. A tweet consists only of an image of the tower, with bright pink streaks of graffiti across its face. The Internet is already scouring the image for clues.
Recently Walmart Canada appeared to have leaked several upcoming game announcements, including Rage 2 from Bethesda. The company had an uncharacteristic reaction for a publisher, publicly responding to the leak with gentle chiding. The official Twitter account for Rage made a point of mocking the placeholder image for using the wrong font and incorrect key art. All this is notable because the hot pink paint used for the anarchy logo and notes appear to be similar to the one on the Big Ben clock face. The paint even looks like it could be a partial anarchy symbol.
Also potentially a clue is the time, which is set at 5:14. That could correspond to a date, which would be this Monday. Altogether it seems possible that a Rage 2 announcement of some sort could be coming next week. Whether this would have been the original plan or if the company is just responding quickly to the cat being let out of the bag isn't clear.
Or, all this could be entirely off the mark and Bethesda is teasing something else entirely. With E3 2018 rapidly approaching, we'll know soon enough. Bethesda's E3 showcase is planned for Sunday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. PT / 9:30 p.m. ET.
Pokemon Go players can now encounter another Legendary originally from the Hoenn region. A month after they first began appearing in the game, the Eon Pokemon Latios and Latias have moved to different locations of the world, where they'll remain for a limited time.
Beginning today, May 8, players in Europe and Asia will be able to catch Latios, while Latias will appear throughout North America, South America, and Africa. The Pokemon will remain in those regions until June 5, when they're slated to leave the game.
As before, Latios and Latias can only be found in their respective regions as a Raid Battle, so players will need to team up at Gyms to battle the Pokemon before earning a chance to capture them. Both Legendaries are dual Dragon/Psychic-types, making them vulnerable to Dark and Fairy Pokemon, such as Tyranitar and Mawile.
Latios and Latias aren't the only Legendaries that Pokemon Go players can catch right now. The Legendary bird Zapdos is also available again, this time as the reward for the latest batch of Field Research quests. The new set of quests revolve primarily around Electric- and Flying-types, and if players can complete enough of them to collect seven stamps, they'll earn a chance to encounter Zapdos outside of a Raid.
Beyond the current crop of Legendary Pokemon, players have a number of events to look forward to in Pokemon Go. Developer Niantic recently announced the Pokemon Go Summer Tour 2018, a series of real-world events that will be held across the globe this summer, starting with a Safari Zone event in Germany and the second annual Pokemon Go Fest in Chicago.
In the meantime, players still have a few more days to participate in the ongoing Battle Showdown event, which runs until May 14 and makes Fighting-type Pokemon more common. The next Community Day event takes place shortly after, on May 19, and features the Red and Blue starter Charmander.
Pokemon Go developer Niantic is hosting a number of real-world events for the game very soon. The developer has announced the Pokemon Go Summer Tour 2018, a series of real-world events that will be held across the globe this summer, the first of which kicks off in Germany next month.
On June 30 and July 1, Niantic will hold a special Safari Zone event at Westfalenpark in Dortmund. That will be followed by the second annual Pokemon Go Fest, which will take place in Chicago's Lincoln Park on July 14-15. Finally, Japanese players will be able to participate in a special Safari Zone event in Yokosuka later this summer.
Niantic says each event will "include unique ways for players around the world to create adventures of their own and complete challenges together." Niantic will also continue to hold Community Days throughout the summer.
Safari Zone Dortmund will be free to attend, but those hoping like to take part in this year's Pokemon Go Fest will need to purchase a $20 ticket. Those will go on sale beginning at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET on May 11. Niantic says it will announce additional details for the Yokosuka Safari Zone event "soon" on the Pokemon Go Live website.
In the meantime, players still have a few more days to take part in the Battle Showdown event. Until May 14, Fighting Pokemon such as Makuhita will spawn more frequently, and everyone will earn double XP for participating in Gym and Raid Battles.
Following that, Niantic will host the next Community Day on May 19. This month, participants will get triple the normal amount of Stardust for capturing Pokemon, while the classic starter Charmander will appear in much greater numbers for the duration of the event.
A lot of new content is on the way to Star Wars Battlefront II on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Ahead of the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, EA and DICE are kicking off Han Solo Season in Battlefront II, which will bring an assortment of new content to the game themed around the galaxy's most famous scoundrel.
The first leg of Han Solo Season begins next week, on May 16, with content inspired by the original Star Wars film trilogy. First, DICE is bringing back the Jabba's Palace map from the first Star Wars Battlefront, which will be available in Blast, Heroes vs. Villains, and a new game mode being introduced during Han Solo Season: Hero Showdown.
Hero Showdown is a round-based elimination mode that allows players to pair up characters and pit them in two-on-two Hero vs. Villains battles. EA says this game type will require players to "bring out their wits and tactics," as they will have to pick a new duo to take into battle after each round.
Additionally, DICE is adding new Appearances inspired by the opening act of Return of the Jedi, including Lando Calrissian's Skiff Guard disguise and Leia in Boushh's bounty hunter gear. These Appearances can be purchased either with Credits--which are earned through regular play--or the premium currency Crystals, which were reintroduced in Battlefront II last month as part of the Night on Endor update.
Finally, the initial wave of Han Solo Season adds a much-requested mode to the game: Starfighter Custom Arcade. Here, EA says you will "be able to hone your skills in the cockpit with Starfighters from all eras, whether you're aiming to turn Rebellion X-wings into stardust with your TIE/LN or hop into the Millennium Falcon to fly circles around enemy starfighters."
More content will arrive in June during the second leg of Han Solo Season. EA hasn't announced what new features it will introduce to the game next month, but it did tease that the content will be themed around the aforementioned Solo: A Star Wars Story, which premieres in theaters on May 25. You can find more details about Han Solo Season on the official Battlefront II website.
The "gifting" feature that launched on Xbox One last year is expanding. Microsoft announced today that digital PC games in the Microsoft Store and downloadable content are now eligible for gifting. At launch, only Xbox One digital games could be gifted. The other big piece of gifting news today is that all Xbox One digital games can now be gifted.
Additionally, memberships to Xbox Live and Xbox Game Pass can be gifted as well. "This feature has been a huge hit with our fans and has made buying presents for friends and family even easier, especially around the holidays," Microsoft said in a blog post today.
To gift a game, on PC or Xbox One, you select "Buy as Gift" on the store page and then provide an email for who you want to send it to. On Xbox One, you can send via Gamertag. The recipient then gets a code, and bam, that's it.
There are some things to be aware of, however. If the content you want to gift is on sale, you can only purchase two games or items as gifts in a 14-day period.
There is no limit for gifting full-price items. Gifting only works with Xbox One and PC games, not Xbox 360 or original Xbox games. Additionally, you cannot gift pre-orders or consumable DLC such as in-game currency.
Gifting is a nice feature that should come in especially handy around the holidays or at any other gift-giving time. Gifting is not available on PS4.
An Easter egg in Battlefield 1 has led to a teaser for the next game in the franchise. A reveal date has been set for May 23, with the tagline "Never Be the Same." Further details are still unknown, but we should be finding out much more about Battlefield 2018 soon.
Eurogamer reports that a recent update to Battlefield 1 added a button system to the Fort de Vaux map, which corresponded with a door marked "Isolement" (roughly translated as solitary confinement). Pressing the buttons in the correct order opened the room to a cell, with a painting of a white horse and some leaky pipes. Those pipes were dripping in morse code, which the community decoded to spell out the URL ea.com/neverbethesame. That site has the May 23 date teased, along with the #Battlefield hashtag to make sure there's absolutely no confusion.
The tease is accompanied by the painting of the horse, with apparent dirt or tire tracks over it. We've heard reports that this next entry will be called Battlefield V, and like Call of Duty, it's said to be returning to the World War 2 setting. The classical painting of a horse having been scuffed by tire or tank treads could be a subtle hint at a theme of technology changing the nature of combat in WW2.
We've also heard that Battlefield will have a single-player campaign, co-op mode, and loot boxes. EA confirmed the single-player portion in an earnings call, but aside from that, everything from the setting to the modes has been left a mystery. Now, at least, we know when the mystery will end.
Battlefield, along with other games from EA's line-up, will be playable at EA Play this year, which will be at the Los Angeles' Hollywood Palladium from June 9-11. The now annual EA Play event is E3-adjacent, taking place just before the industry event kicks off on June 12.
Publisher 505 Games has shared a new trailer for Overkill's The Walking Dead game. Like the previous two trailers, this new video introduces viewers to another one of the characters who'll be playable in the upcoming co-op shooter: the elderly Grant.
"Of all the survivors we've met so far, Grant may be the best prepared for the apocalypse," developer Starbreeze said. He is described as "a steely outdoorsman who left city life behind to live out his golden years in the wilderness," but he returns to a zombie-infested Washington D.C. to find his missing family. You can watch Grant's character trailer above.
Grant is the third playable hero to be announced for Overkill's Walking Dead game so far. Previous trailers for the title introduced Maya, a doctor who fills the role of a healer, and Aiden, a brawler-type character. One final playable hero still remains to be announced, although Starbreeze hasn't hinted at who that could be.
The Walking Dead is a four-player cooperative shooter from Starbreeze subsidiary Overkill, the studio behind Payday 2. It is being developed with the blessing of the original Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, who said he was certain from the first day he saw the project that it was the "co-op action game fans have been waiting for." Players will need to work together in the game to complete missions, rescue other survivors, and stay alive in the hostile, zombie-filled world.
Overkill's Walking Dead game has been a long time coming. The title was first announced in 2014, with a planned release in 2016. It was subsequently delayed to 2017 before being postponed again to 2018. The game is now slated to arrive for PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime this fall.
Digital Extremes has released a big update for the console version of Warframe. The Beasts of the Sanctuary update is now available for free on PS4 and Xbox One, and it introduces a wealth of content to the sci-fi shooter, including a new Warframe, weapons, mode, and more.
Headlining the update is Khora, the 35th Warframe to arrive to the game to date and the first new one of 2018. Digital Extremes describes Khora as a "stylistically armor-clad" Warframe who "offers a versatile combination of offensive and defensive capabilities." She wields a metallic whip that can strike from a distance and call upon her pet Kavat to attack enemies.
Khora can be obtained in Sanctuary Onslaught, a new team-based survival mode. Here, players will have to work together with up to three others to fight through increasingly challenging waves of enemies and escape through randomly placed portals. By completing waves and traveling deeper into the Sanctuary, players will unlock Khora's blueprints, a new capture scene, and more.
Additionally, the Beasts of the Sanctuary update introduces a handful of new weapons, including the sniper rifle-like Veldt and Khora's signature gun and swords, the Hystrix and Dual Keres. Players can also get a couple of new weapon and character skins. You can read more about the Beasts of the Sanctuary update on the official Warframe website.
Coinciding with the update, Digital Extremes has kicked off a new limited-time event in Warframe, called Operation: Plague Star. Players can participate in the event from now until 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET on May 22 to earn rewards such as an Event Emblem, Ether Daggers, and Zaw Components.
David Price of the Boston Red Sox, one of the best and highest-paid pitchers in all of Major League Baseball, is currently embroiled in some drama--but it has nothing to do with baseball.
Price, who signed a $217 million contract with the Sox in 2015, plays a lot of Fortnite. He also recently missed a start due to minor carpal tunnel. So of course, people are asking if his gaming habits--he sometimes plays until 2 AM after games--has something to do with it.
There has been so much hullaballoo about Price's gaming habits, and Fortnite in particular, that Price has now come forward to say he's not going to play the game when he's at the ballpark. This is according to MLB.com Red Sox beat writer Ian Browne, who apparently spoke with Price in New York this week during the Sox-Yankees series. In announcing his semi-retirement from Fortnite, Browne said Price is "aware the topic has been a distraction last couple of days." Additionally, Boston Herald reporter Michael Silverman quoted Price as saying video games had nothing to do with his wrist injury.
Price said he will no longer play Fortnite at the ballpark because he is aware the topic has been a distraction last couple of days.
From Price: He does not believe video games contributed to his wrist problem. Sounds as if he will back off playing them some if that helps & find new hobby. Getting treatment, will sleep w wrist brace. He will pitch Saturday in Toronto. His bulllen today went very well.
— Michael Silverman (@MikeSilvermanBB) May 10, 2018
The Red Sox are neck-and-neck with the Yankees for the best record in all of baseball. Should their on-field performance fall off, you can expect more questions about and criticism of their gaming habits. But until then, here's to hoping they all get victory royales.
In other Fortnite news, Avengers: Infinity War bad guy Thanos is now in the game as part of a limited-time mode. For more, check out GameSpot's video above that shows off how and where to get Thanos' super-powerful gauntlet.
Epic Games is updating Fortnite again to make changes to the limited-time Avengers: Infinity War mode, Infinity Gauntlet, which features the mega-powerful Thanos. Specifically, the update will change his attributes to make him more powerful, but also somewhat easier to kill.
Starting off, Thanos' Beam is now deadlier; it does 20 damage instead of 12. Additionally, punch damage is increased from 80 to 100. Balancing this out somewhat is the fact that Thanos' health now stands at 500 instead of 800.
Regarding these changes, Epic said in a post on Reddit, "Our goal is to allow more folks to truly experience the power of Thanos, while also making you feel powerful when wielding the gauntlet."
Today's update also addresses loot drops in the Infinity Gauntlet mode. With the update, only Rare, Epic, and Legendary-level weapons will spawn, which in turn should give players more firepower to help take down Thanos.
The new Fortnite update also makes some general changes, including lowering the height of the battle bus and a bigger storm circle at the start of matches. These moves are intended to provide more players with a fair shot at playing as Thanos. A strategy for acquiring the Infinity Gauntlet involved jumping out of the battle bus at the last moment and hovering in the air until the comet carrying the gauntlet crashed into the island.
Additionally, the spawn rate for med kits, chug jugs, and big shields are increased. You can see the full patch notes below. Infinity Gauntlet launched earlier this week. Thanos was too strong at the start, and Epic nerfed the character right away.
Fortnite Patch Notes:
Thanos Changes
Increased Beam from 12 to 20 damage on players.
Increased Punch damage from 80 to 100.
Decreased health from 800 to 500.
General Mode Changes
Reduced height of the Bus when dropping
Bigger initial storm circle
Less storm damage early game (first 3 storms from 5%/5%/10% per tick to 1%/2.5%/5%)
Initial Gauntlet spawn time changed from bus ride plus 30-45s to bus ride plus 120-135s
Increased spawn rate of Med Kits, Chug Jugs and Big Shields.
May is officially underway, which means the first half of this month's Games with Gold lineup has arrived. Xbox Live Gold subscribers can now download two new games across Xbox One and Xbox 360, with another pair of freebies set to follow partway through the month.
On the Xbox One side, Gold members can grab the newly released Super Mega Baseball 2 at no charge. Like the first Super Mega Baseball, the game features deep baseball sim mechanics beneath its cartoony visuals, and this time around, players can compete against each other online. This month's first free 360 title, meanwhile, is the Sega classic Streets of Rage. That game is also playable on Xbox One thanks to backwards compatibility.
Super Mega Baseball 2 will remain free to download throughout the entire month, while Streets of Rage will return to its regular price on May 15. Gold members can also still download one holdover from April's Games with Gold lineup: Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the 2015 stealth-action game set in Victorian London. That likewise returns to its normal price on May 15.
Beginning May 16, Microsoft will offer two more free games for Gold members. Xbox One owners will be able to grab Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the latest mainline installment in the popular stealth franchise. Platinum Games' cult favorite shooter Vanquish will be the second free 360 title offered this month.
Both Metal Gear Solid V and Vanquish will remain free to download through the end of May, and the latter is also backwards compatible with Microsoft's newer console, giving Xbox One owners four new freebies to grab this month. You can find the full list of May's free Games with Gold lineup below.
