As we've seen before, the development kit version of Project Scorpio features a screen on the front panel that can display technical information, such as the current framerate. But it turns out it can also show a lot more.
A new look at the dev kit's front panel has been shared on Twitter by Windows Central's Jez Corden, who describes it at "fully programmable." You can see in action in the video below.
Scorpio XDK front panel does way more than just FPS count. Fully programmable. Watch dolphins on the back screen, etc. Really cool stuff. pic.twitter.com/AaV63fq9qr
There are more mundane options, such as displaying different fonts, as well as one that allows it to display actual videos--the example we see shows computer-generated dolphins swimming around. This can be customized to add or remove dolphins; there's also a specific option to add 12 dolphins at once because, as the menu puts it, "Why not?"
Microsoft previously released images of the Scorpio dev kit, which is the system used by companies developing games and software. We don't yet know what the final, consumer version of Scorpio will look like, nor what it will cost or be called.
Technical information and specs for Scorpio were released earlier this year, and Microsoft is expected to share much more about the system at E3 next month. Scorpio is essentially a souped-up Xbox One that plays the same games as existing models, similar to how the PlayStation 4 Pro relates to the PS4.
Amiibo figures have occasionally gone on sale in the past, but if you're in the market for those from the Animal Crossing series, now is as good a time as any to take the plunge.
Among Best Buy's deals this week is a sale on most--but not quite all--of the figures in the Animal Crossing line. This brings the likes of Tom Nook and Mabel down to just $2, as well as Resetti to $3. There's also a three-pack with Cyrus, Reese, and KK Slider for $5, which works out to less than $2 per figure.
The key absence here is the Villager, the Amiibo edition of the player's character in the series. That's presumably due to the fact that it's a part of the Super Smash Bros. line of Amiibo figures, rather than the Animal Crossing one. You can see all of the figures on sale here.
Gamers Club Unlocked members, who receive 20% off new games at Best Buy, also see their discount apply here. That brings the prices down to anywhere from $1.59 to $4.
Similar to some of the previous Street Fighter figures offered by PCS, these are 1:3 scale statues that each cost $900. Provided you're willing to pay up front, you can actually save a good amount: about $135. That said, the final price--$786 or $765, depending on the figure--will understandably still cause some to balk. A payment plan option also offers a discount over the standard price, though you won't save quite as much that way.
An even more expensive option is the Legacy Set, which consists of all three figures for a whopping $2,725 (or $2,398 if you pay in full now). Shipping is not included with any of these prices and will be added on when the items are in stock. They aren't expected to ship until the final quarter of 2018.
Provided you're interested despite the price (and wait), you'll be able to place a preorder for the Legacy Set on May 22 at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET. Individual statues can be preordered starting at the same time on May 29.
PCS has shared new images for each of the three statues, which you can check out above and below. They each measure in at 30 in x 9.5 x 7.25 (76 cm x 24 x 18.5). More details are available at PCS' website through the links below.
By Anonymous on May 14, 2017 10:30 pm Spoilers ahead! Here is every major ending to Prey. The game does have dozens of small variations though based on the choices you make throughout the game.
Much as it did last year, Sony is offering free items to players who may have encountered technical issues in the latest MLB The Show game's online modes.
"[W]e're less than happy with unexpected server issues that have accompanied the launch of MLB The Show 17 and know you are too--for this we apologize," the developer, SIE San Diego Studio, wrote on the game's official website. "We've been working without pause to address a number of server and gameplay issues to restore the online experience we had hoped to achieve at launch."
It also noted that, in addition to the public-facing updates released since MLB 17's launch in March, there have also been back-end server upgrades that have helped to improve matters. "We're pleased to report that these updates have made great strides to address the main issues related to online gameplay and have led to an improved gameplay experience for our fans," it said.
To make up for the issues to fans, anyone who played the game between launch and May 11 at 1 PM PT will receive 10 standard packs and 11,000 Stubs. These should be delivered to all eligible players by May 18.
It's yet another week to hunt for deals on PC hardware and components, and we're here to help find a few of the best online. If you're looking out for a decent monitor, beefy power supply, or spacious solid-state drive, be sure to jump on these offers before they expire or sell out.
Big ticket items such as the GTX 1070 video card from Gigabyte and a 144Hz monitor from Acer can also be snagged at a discount.
If you've found any other great deals we missed, please let us know in the comments below; sharing is caring!
The GTX 1070 is a terrific mid-high range graphics card capable of handling modern games with maximum quality settings at 1440p. It's even powerful enough to do 4K in some games while pumping out playable frame rates. This particular model from Gigabyte has a dual fan cooler and an overclocking mode that'll boost the core clock to 1771 MHz.
Prices for solid-state drives continue to fluctuate, but this 512GB model from ADATA is one of the better deals right now, especially for the amount of storage. If you're still using hard disk drives exclusively, now would be a good time to make the jump for faster storage. Be sure to use the promo code to swoop this up for cheap.
Cooler Master's Hyper 212 CPU coolers are regarded as some the best air coolers for the price. This particular model is equipped with a red LED fan, but still sports the design and efficiency of other Hyper 212 coolers. It's a great upgrade if you're still using stock coolers on your Intel or AMD processors. Take note, the Hyper 212 is not compatible with AMD Ryzen's AM4 socket designs.
The SuperNOVA from EVGA provides plenty of juice for most systems with its 850 watts and 80 Plus Gold certification. This power supply would fit perfectly for multi-GPU setups. It's also modular, which will benefit the cable management process. ECO Mode helps keep fan noise down during low-load operation and increases power efficiency.
Acer is known for manufacturing reliable and affordable monitors, and the GN27HL is yet another. It's a high-refresh rate 27-inch display with a one millisecond response time and native resolution of 1080p. If you really want to take advantage of the 144Hz refresh rate, make sure you're equipped with a video card capable of pumping out high frame rates at 1080p. Don't forget to use the promo code to get it for this price.
The G602 wireless mouse from Logitech seems to be on sale quite often, but that doesn't mean it's still not a great deal for this price. It takes on the design of the highly regarded G502 gaming mouse with deep grooves, 11 programmable buttons, and on-the-fly sensitivity switching. It also has extensive battery life with several power modes.
Sega has released a new gameplay trailer for Sonic Mania, showcasing Sonic's rival-turned-ally Knuckles navigating Dr. Eggman's airship, the Flying Battery Zone.
Like the game's reimagined Green Hill Zone, Flying Battery Zone is a remixed version of a classic Sonic level, this one from 1994's Sonic & Knuckles. The new footage shows Knuckles using his signature abilities, gliding through the air and scaling walls, to make his way through the stage. You can take a look at the trailer below.
Sonic Mania is launching for PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC later this year, though Sega hasn't announced an exact release date; the game was originally scheduled to arrive in spring, but the publisher recently delayed it until sometime this summer.
Meanwhile, Sega's other new Sonic game, Sonic Forces, recently revealed its own rendition of the iconic Green Hill Zone. Like Sonic Generations, Forces features a mix of both modern, 3D Sonic gameplay and classic side-scrolling stages. Sonic Forces is likewise coming to PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC, though the game won't arrive until much later this year.
We have known for a while now that Beatles singer/bassist Paul McCartney has a role in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Now, the famous musician has posted a picture of himself in costume--and it's pretty incredible.
It's not immediately clear what role McCartney is playing, but he will apparently appear in a scene not originally planned. Directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg have elected to add another "big set-piece" scene, and it is here that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and 21-time Grammy winner will be featured.
McCartney is not the first British rockstar to appear in a Pirates movie, as Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards played Jack Sparrow's father in At World's End.
This would apparently be McCartney's first film role. It won't be the first involvement with a Hollywood project, however, as he has written music for lots of movies. He was nominated for three Academy Awards, winning one alongside his Beatles bandmates for the 1970 movie Let It Be.
Dead Men Tell No Tales opens on Memorial Day this month. It stars Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, alongside Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, while Javier Bardem (Skyfall, No Country for Old Men) plays the bad guy, Captain Salazar. Orlando Bloom will also appear in the movie as Will Turner, making his first appearance in a Pirates movie since 2007's At World's End.
Despite being discontinued nearly 20 years ago, Nintendo's second home console, the Super Famicom (or Super NES, as it's known outside of Japan), has suddenly found itself in the news once again.
The title, a side-scrolling beat-'em-up called Kaizou Choujin Shubibinman Zero, isn't exactly a new game; it was originally released for the platform via the Satellaview peripheral in 1997, but this marks the first time players will be able to purchase a physical copy of the game. The cartridge is being released to commemorate the title's 20th anniversary and will retail for 6,998 yen (roughly $62) when it goes on sale in June.
The Satellaview was an add-on for the Super Famicom that was never released outside of Japan. The peripheral, a satellite modem that plugged into the console, debuted in 1995 and allowed players to access digital content such as magazines, additional content for existing titles, and even full games through a subscription broadcast service. The games weren't permanently stored on the Satellaview; rather, they were broadcast at regular intervals and could only be played while they were "airing." Some of the more notable titles to be borne from the Satellaview were Radical Dreamers (the text adventure that would serve as the basis for the PS1 classic Chrono Cross) and "BS Zelda," a remixed version of the original Legend of Zelda that featured improved graphics and even voice acting. The service was ultimately discontinued in 2000.
News about Nintendo's second console has been surprisingly prevalent of late. Recently, popular console modder Ben Heck managed to repair the fabled Nintendo PlayStation, the prototype for what was to be a CD-ROM-expanded version of the SNES before Nintendo backed out of its arrangement with Sony and partnered with Philips. An enterprising fan known as Clown TV has also created a beautiful skin inspired by the Super Famicom for Nintendo's newest system, the Switch.
