Accessories, including hairspray for the main character, 2B;
Masks with unique effects;
Bullets that can change the look of enemy bullets.
The DLC is out now on Steam and the PlayStation Store, and it costs $14. The main game launched back in March for PS4 and PC to critical and commercial acclaim. Soon after its release, Square Enix announced that it had shipped 1 million units of the game. In his review, GameSpot critic Miguel Concepcion gave the game a 9/10, saying, "It's a meaty, often exhilarating trek that showcases Platinum Games' and Yoko Taro's unique blend of genius."
After six years, Nintendo may finally be walking away from a patent dispute over its Mii characters. In 2011, US company RecogniCorp sued Nintendo for allegedly infringing on its patented technology for producing and storing police sketch-artist data. Now the US federal appeals court has ruled in Nintendo's favor, upholding a previous decision.
"We are very pleased with the court's decision," said Ajay Singh, Nintendo of America's Director of Litigation and Compliance.
"The decision marks another case in which Nintendo's unique ideas overcame unjustified threats of patent infringement."
In 2015, RecogniCorp lost its lawsuit against Nintendo. It claims the technology that stores Nintendo's Mii characters employs the same techniques described in its patent for making police sketches of suspects. A federal judge ruled against the claim and in Nintendo's favor, saying mathematical operations cannot be patented.
Yesterday, the company lost its appeal for the same reason once again.
"Nintendo has a long history of developing innovative products and we will continue to vigorously defend all our products from meritless patent lawsuits," said Singh.
Nintendo has a long history of patent lawsuits and appeals. Last year, an appeals court judge overturned a $30.2 million lawsuit involving a former Sony inventor, who claimed Nintendo infringed on his 3D display technology when making the 3DS. The appeals judge sided with Nintendo, despite the earlier ruling against the company.
In preparation for Star Wars's annual day-based-entirely-on-a-bad-joke May 4 celebration, PC retailer GOG is running a sale based around the legendary sci-fi property. Nearly 20 games are included in the promotion, which is currently offering up to 77% off. (The original Star Wars was, of course, released in 1977.)
Update: GOG.com originally told us that every game in the sale was 77% off. The retailer has now informed us that the games are up to 77% off, except on May 4 itself, when every game will be 75% off. The games listed in the story all happen to still be 77% off, however, so they remain at their prices stated here.
The latest round of deals are now live on the PlayStation Store in the US, and there some excellent offers to be had on PS4, PS3, and Vita.
This week features sales themed around Golden Week (an annual holiday in Japan) and Star Wars Day. The Golden Week promotion brings the bulk of the discounts, with well over 100 games on sale. Here are some of the highlights for PlayStation Plus members:
Although it's not included in the Golden Week sale, another solid discount on a Japanese game is Nier Automata (pictured above), which can be had for $42 (or $45 without Plus).
As for the Star Wars sale, you'll find a few dozen games discounted across all platforms. Most of these prices are the same whether or not you have PlayStation Plus. Highlights include:
If you already own either of the pair digitally, they should already be in your Ready to Download list waiting for you to access them. Alternatively, you can purchase the pair on Xbox.com or through the console itself. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 costs US $10 / £6.75 / AU $10, while Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions will set you back US $15 / £12, though it doesn't seem to be available on the Australian Xbox Store.
Retro Evolved 2 launched back in 2008 and was awarded a 9/10 in our review--critic Tom McShea called it a "shockingly good sequel." Dimensions, meanwhile, earned an 8/10 in our Geometry Wars 3 review on its launch in 2014. That third title already came to Xbox One natively, but now the Xbox 360 version will be playable if you don't want to buy both editions.
The original Geometry Wars came to Xbox One backwards compatibility last year after originally launching on Xbox 360 as an Xbox Live Arcade game. With 2 and 3 also now available, the whole mainline series is now playable on Xbox One.
Update: Darksiders III has now been officially unveiled with a new trailer, which you can watch below (via IGN):
The game will arrive in 2018 and is in development at Gunfire Games, a studio that incorporates many ex-Vigil Games employees who worked on the original Darksiders and its sequel.
"After countless rumors, a major catalogue acquisition, and even a corporate re-brand, the team at THQ Nordic is thrilled to finally confirm plans for Darksiders III, said publisher THQ Nordic's group CEO, Lars Wingefors.
Now, thanks to a product page listed on Amazon, we have more details. The description states you'll play as a mage named Fury and that you'll need to "harness [her] magic to unleash her various forms--each granting her access to new weapons, moves, and traversal abilities."
The listing goes on to state that you'll be able to "explore an open-ended, living, free-form game world in which Fury moves back and forth between environments to uncover secrets while advancing the story." Your objective, meanwhile, is to "defeat the Seven Deadly Sins and their servants who range from mystical creatures to degenerated beings."
Take a look at the rest of Darksiders III's description below, via Amazon.
"Return to an apocalyptic Earth in Darksiders III, a hack-n-slash action-adventure where players assume the role of Fury in her quest to hunt down and dispose of the Seven Deadly Sins. The most unpredictable and enigmatic of the Four Horsemen, Fury must succeed where many have failed--to bring balance to the forces that now ravage Earth. Darksiders III is the long-anticipated, third chapter in the critically-acclaimed Darksiders franchise."
The game's release date is down as December 31, 2018, though this could simply be a placeholder. The listing also revealed a price, $60, and some new images, which you can see in the gallery below.
Playtonic Games has outlined a few details on some of the tweaks players can expect from its first major update for Yooka-Laylee.
The studio will be implementing some commonly requested improvements to the title, including the ability to skip cutscenes, skip through dialogue more quickly, and reduce the game's "gibberish" voice acting. The developers will also be polishing other aspects of the title, such as refining the way its camera operates--one of the aspects of the game we took issue with in our review. Playtonic has released the following clip to demonstrate the improved camera.
Playtonic has yet to announce just when the Yooka-Laylee update will go live, though the studio has said it will be rolling out "in the coming weeks." There is likewise still no word on when the Switch version of the game will be launching.
Yooka-Laylee was released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 11. The game was also intended to launch on Wii U, though development on that version was eventually canceled and shifted over to Nintendo's new Switch. Yooka-Laylee garnered mixed reviews from many outlets on its release; while some praised the game for its charming characters and similarities to the collectathon platformers of the Nintendo 64 era, others found its style of gameplay to be outdated.
Marvel has released the first teaser image for The Inhumans, another television series based on the publisher's popular comic book characters. The picture, which you can see below, was posted on Twitter along with the tagline, "Beyond Humanity."
The image features a glowing symbol hovering above the planet Earth, while a bright light shines behind it. The symbol is commonly associated with Black Bolt, a longtime hero in the Marvel comic universe and leader of the Inhumans.
Although the Inhumans have existed in the comic universe for some time now, they have become more prominent in recent years. Their most recent story arc revolves around the Terrigen Mists, which have appeared on Earth and unlock Inhuman genes in people. This, in turn, has granted them superhuman abilities.
The first season of The Inhumans will be eight episodes and it premieres on ABC in September 2017. It is a co-production with IMAX, and the first two episodes will get a worldwide release in IMAX theaters on September 1.
The show is being overseen by Scott Buck, the showrunner for Netflix's Iron Fist.Hell on Wheels star Anson Mount has been cast as Black Bolt. The character has a hypersonic-voice and is capable of generating devastating waves of force by speaking. As a result, he's rarely shown to be speaking in the comics.
The Inhumans is one of several new Marvel shows in the works, alongisde Runaways andCloak & Dagger, which are both currently in production. A New Warriors TV show was also recently announced.
"These shows are not made for critics, they are first and foremost made for the fans," said Jones. "I also think some of the reviews we saw were seeing the show through a very specific lens, and I think when the fans of the Marvel Netflix world and fans of the comic books view the show through the lens of just wanting to enjoy a superhero show, then they will really enjoy what they see."
Comic book legend Todd McFarlane has been talking about a new movie based on his character Spawn for some time, and has now provided an update on the project. The creator of the demonic antihero posted a new video in which he explains that the script is done and he has now looking for producers. Watch it below:
In the video, McFarlane states that while he hasn't spoken to anyone within the film industry yet, a number of people have approached him about making the movie. He states that he hopes to make a further announcement at the San Diego Comic Con in July, and confirms that, if it happens, the new Spawn film would be "an R-rated horror movie."
Nevertheless, McFarlane is realistic about the fact that a completed script is only the first stage of getting a film produced. "It does not mean the movie is being made," he said. "It means that there is a script there that everybody can look at."
In February last year, McFarlane told Comicbook.com that part of his decision to stay away from the big-budget approach of many modern superhero movies was so he could make the film himself. "Basically, I can make this version of the movie on a budget without crazy special effects," he said. "I want to keep it small, keep it tight, so they'll let me direct it!"
The comic book Spawn appeared in 1992 and was one of the first titles published by McFarlane's Image Comics. It was massively popular, with the first issue selling 1.7 million copies. However, the 1997 film adaptation was not a big hit with either audiences or critics.
Playerunknown's Battlegrounds released in March, and almost immediately it hit the top of Steam's top-selling chart. Developer Bluehole announced today that the game has passed a significant milestone, selling over two million copies.
In response to the popularity of Battlegrounds and to celebrate the milestone, Bluehole announced that it would be holding a livestream event on its Twitch channel on Thursday, May 4, to raise money for the charity Gamer's Outreach. Bluehole will match up to $100,000 in donations made during the event.
CEO of Bluehole Gang-Seok Kim said in a statement, "One of the main reasons we were able to hit this sales milestone is that we have a dedicated community who has helped us refine Playerunknown's Battlegrounds. We felt this invitational was a great way to give back and are pleased to make this small contribution to the cause."
Battlegrounds is a competitive survival game, similar in concept to The Hunger Games or The Culling. Since its release, it has gained a wide following, and currently has the third most active players on Steam behind Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
A possible strike by the Writers Guild of America has been averted, as it has reached a tentative agreement with major studios to avoid a work stoppage.
The WGA and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers agreed to a deal in the early hours on Tuesday--shortly after a contract between the two sides had already expired at 12 AM PT, Variety reports. The three-year deal is a tentative one for now, as it still has to be ratified, but it means there likely won't be any interruption in the writing for TV shows and movies across the industry.
The WGA last went on strike just under a decade ago, bringing work to a halt for 100 days over late 2007 and early 2008. A new strike could have had a significant effect across the industry; Saturday Night Live's current season may have come to an end early, while shows like The Walking Dead could have been impacted. Other shows could have been canceled altogether as a result, as Variety notes.
In a memo to its members, the WGA said that it made gains in terms of its health plan, parental leave, and residuals for pay TV (like HBO). It also made notable advancements in payment for writers of short-order TV series. That has been a key issue for the WGA in light of how many series now run only 6-13 episodes, as opposed to the traditional 22-24.
The memo stated, "Did we get everything we wanted? No. Everything we deserve? Certainly not. But because we had the near-unanimous backing of you and your fellow writers, we were able to achieve a deal that will net this Guild's members $130 million more, over the life of the contract, than the pattern we were expected to accept."
Ahead of the release of DC's Wonder Woman in June, a new trailer has arrived. It screened during last night's episode of Gotham, and includes plenty of new footage. Check it out below:
Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot as the Amazonian princess-turned-superhero, alongside Chris Pine, Robin Wright, and Danny Huston. It is directed by Patty Jenkins. Gadot is also set to play the role in Justice League, which arrives in November.
In a recent interview with W Magazine, Gadot spoke about her stressful first audition for this iconic role. "When I auditioned for Batman v Superman, I didn't know it was for Wonder Woman," she said. "The director, Zack Snyder, asked me to do a camera test. That was torture. They were looking at six or seven girls, and we were all in separate trailers and were told to stay inside until they called us. Waiting is my enemy number one, and I was losing my mind.
His departure was confirmed through a statement issued to GamesIndustry.biz, in which he said it was "nothing exciting or drama filled."
"I worked there for 12 years, shipped a bunch of great games and some amazing hardware and wanted to change things up," Faliszek said.
During his time at Valve, Faliszek contributed to the writing of some of the studio's most acclaimed titles. In addition to the Half-Life 2 DLC episodes mentioned above, he also had a hand in the writing of Portal and Portal 2, as well as Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2.
More recently, however, he has spearheaded developer relations for Vive, the VR headset Valve produced in partnership with HTC.
Faliszek has not provided any details on the next step in his career: "There's no news on what's next," he said in his statement. "I will let you know when that happens."
In February, Erik Wolpaw left Valve. Like Faliszek, Wolpaw's credits include Half-Life 2: Episode One and Episode Two, as well as Portal and the two Left 4 Dead games.
Last year, Marc Laidlaw, primary writer for Half-Life and Half-Life 2, also left the studio. At this point, Faliszek's departure means the main writers on the Half-Life series are no longer at Valve.
Following this summer's release of Wonder Woman, Aquaman will be the next DC superhero to feature in his own standalone movie. Jason Momoa plays the King of the Sea, and he has been speaking about his role in the film, which begins production this month.
In an interview with GQ, Momoa explained that unlike Batman or Superman, this wasn't a character that already had an established identity onscreen. "We've never really seen anything from this guy before, so it's fun to have a level playing field," Momoa said. "There aren't like four Aquamans before me. I get to set the tone for it."
Both Momoa and Heard will feature in this year's Justice League prior to Aquaman. In March, director Zack Snyder revealed some VFX test footage of Aquaman's underwater lair--check it out here.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has reached No.1 in the UK physical games chart in its debut week, becoming the first Mario title to come top since 2008's Mario Kart Wii. For the week ending April 29, the Switch port also became Nintendo's first UK No.1 since Pokemon White in 2011, according to sales monitor Chart-Track.
Grand Theft Auto V continues to chart well at No.3, while Bandai Namco's Little Nightmares is another new entry at No.4. Our critic Matt Espineli called the puzzle-platformer "a chilling odyssey well worth taking," despite its brief length. Check out our full Little Nightmares review for more.
Replenished stock helps The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild climb from No.10 to No.5, meanwhile, with the rest of the top 10 made up of a number of familiar faces.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's strong start comes despite only being on sale for two days at the time the charts were recorded. The title's opening week success was reflected in the US, too, where it became the "fastest-selling game" in Mario Kart franchise history with nearly 460,000 copies sold. We enjoyed the Nintendo racer here at GameSpot; critic Kallie Plagge said it was already a "great racing game," but the overhaul of Battle Mode makes it "well worth reinvesting yourself in Mario Kart 8 on Switch." For more, take a look at our full Mario Kart 8 Deluxe review.
You can read the full top 10 sales chart below, courtesy of sales monitor Chart-Track. Note this table does not include digital sales data, and so should not be considered representative of all UK game sales.
Following the game's official announcement last week, Bandai Namco today released a new trailer for the vampire RPG Code Vein. This newest trailer shows off the game's world and its art style. We also see combat and a brief look at how the companion mechanic will work.
Players can select a companion from the game world of Vein. There is an element of strategy to this, as choosing a companion who works well with your style of play will help you advance through the game.
In Code Vein, you play as a Revenant in a future world "full of vicious enemies and monstrous bosses." You can make use of Blood Veils, which extract the blood from enemies to boost the player's abilities.
"Players can change their form to increase their strength, weaken enemies, and utilize new weapon abilities with overpowered attacks," Bandai Namco said. "Utilizing the vast array of weaponry along with each character's Gift, players can adapt and strategize to a variety of battle conditions that suit their play styles."
The game is being developed by Bandai Namco Studios, which also contributed to the God Eater series, and is scheduled to launch in 2018 for consoles.
XCOM creator Julian Gollop's next game, Phoenix Point, has successfully raised its funding goal on the crowdfunding site Fig. Today, the campaign pulled past its $500,000 target, just days after the project got off the ground on April 25.
At press time, Phoenix Point's funding stands at $500,543 from 6,738 backers. The campaign ends more than a month from now, on June 8, so the figure is likely to grow much further still.
Fig is different than Kickstarter and Indiegogo in that, in addition to tradition rewards-based backing, the site lets people actually invest in a game, reaping the benefits if a game is a success. Right now, $269,000 has come in through pledges, with the remaining $231,000 from investments.
"We would like to thank all our backers who have made this project possible. Now we are going to make an awesome game for you," developer Snapshot games said.
Now that Phoenix Point has passed its funding target, a pair of stretch goals have been announced. If funding hits $650,000, drivable vehicles will be added. Should funding reach $850,000, the developer will add a "floating fortress" in the sky. You can read more about these features here on Fig.
You can secure a digital copy of Phoenix Point through Fig by pledging $30 or more. The game is scheduled to launch in Q4 2018 for PC.
Phoenix Point was announced in March 2016 and has been in the works since at least then. Gaming Insiders founder David Kaye, as well as former developers from Ubisof Sofia and Crytek Black Sea, are working on Phoenix Point; people who worked on XCOM 2 and X-COM Apocalypse are also on the team.
"We are creating Phoenix Point by taking influences from the famed X-COM franchise," Gollop, the CEO of developer Snapshot Games said in a statement. "We are updating our favorite gameplay features from X-COM titles such as UFO: Enemy Unknown and X-COM Apocalypse that I designed, and mixing them with some of the amazing ideas Firaxis Games executed brilliantly in their franchise reboots, to create an entirely new game whose essence lies in the XCOM genre."
The titles listed here represent just a small section of the total number of games marked down this week. You can see a complete rundown of the deals here on Major Nelson's blog. Note that some offers are only available for Xbox Live Gold members.
In other Xbox news, May's Games With Gold titles are now available for Xbox Live Gold members. You can see a rundown of all the titles here.
Dishonored 2 was well-received critically, but the PC version stumbled out of the gate for some due to things like performance and input issues. Those problems were addressed through patches. With the next game from developer Arkane, the sci-fi shooter Prey, coming out this week, fans may be wondering what to expect from the PC version.
Speaking with GameSpot today, Arkane president Raphael Colantonio said the team at Arkane Austin (Dishonored 2 was made by Arkane Lyon) has "doubled [its] thoroughness] as it relates to testing. He also pointed out that many games, including Prey, are developed with PC as the primary platform.
"We're pretty confident," Colantonio said. "First of all, it's not like we first do the game on console and then in the end we suddenly port the game to PC. It starts on PC. That's how game development works."
Another thing to note is that Dishonored 2 was developed on Arkane's own Void engine, while Prey was made using CryEngine 3.
He went on to say that the number of different hardware configurations that developers have to consider for PC is huge. Unlike consoles like Xbox One or PlayStation 4, PCs feature different components based on what people want to spend to get the performance they want. This complicates matters when it comes to testing for Prey and other games, Colantonio said.
"The real reason why PC games often have problems is because there are so many permutations of hardware," he said. "[And] sometimes it's timing--drivers come out the same time as our game. Something happens that makes it more challenging."
While Colantonio of course cannot guarantee that Prey will run perfectly on PC out of the gate (no developer could make that promise), he assured fans that Arkane has put in the effort to ensure the game gets off to a better start on PC than Dishonored 2 did.
"This time we are, given what happened with Dishonored 2, we doubled our thoroughness in making sure that the game is going to run smoothly," he explained. "At this point the game is fully ready, but that's what we've been doing for the past months--a lot of tests on different configurations and making sure it works. So we're pretty confident. You never know. But we're pretty confident."
For more on the PC version of Prey, you can see the minimum and recommended specs right here.
Blizzard has extended Overwatch's latest seasonal event, Uprising, after the event ended today earlier than the studio said it would. Some fans were not happy about this.
The event ended early by accident, Blizzard admitted in a message posted to Twitter. Uprising's Loot Boxes have since been restored, with the King's Row Brawl event taking a little longer to return, but it should be back now if it's not already. Players who are logged in may need to log out to log in again to see the return of the King's Row event.
Uprising has been running in Overwatch across Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC since early April. No future seasonal events have been announced, but given their popularity, you can bet they will happen.
The update doesn't add any new gameplay features, but it lets you listen to the game's audio in one of its nine languages and then use a different language for text on-screen.
On Nintendo Switch, this is enabled when you download the update, which is 1.2.0. For Wii U, you need to download a "Voice Pack" from the eShop.
Today's Breath of the Wild patch also includes "various fixes to improve the gameplay experience." However, Nintendo did not offer any specifics about what's changed.
Let us know in the comments below if you notice any of the bugs that got fixed with this update.
Nintendo today announced more details about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's expansion packs. The first is called The Master Trials, and it launches this summer, containing new items but no new story content. The second, which contains a new story chapter, is coming out during holiday 2017, but it does not have a name yet.
The Master Trials comes with a new Trial of the Sword challenge (previously referred to as the Cave of Trials) that begins with Link having no armor or weapons. There are 45 total rooms in Trial of the Sword, and if you beat them all, then the "true power of the Master Sword will awaken and always be in its glowing powered-up state."
The expansion also adds Hard Mode, which increases the "rank" of enemies, making them more difficult to take down. Additionally, especially challenging enemies will show up in some places where they might not otherwise have. Additionally, enemies spot Link more easily in Hard mode.
The Master Trials also adds something called Hero's Path Mode, which is a journal of sorts it sounds like that documents "every step players take," with progress marked in green on the map.
"The route taken will be tracked for the player's last 200 hours of play time, with an included slider to track footsteps on a timeline," Nintendo said. "This even works retroactively, so players that have already put many hours into the game will be able to see where they have traveled. This feature will help in identifying the locations they haven't visited in this vast world, and may help players find those Shrines they haven't encountered yet."
What's more, The Master Trials introduces a new chest "somewhere in the game world" that includes an item called the Travel Medallion. Using this, players can make a temporary travel point on the map where they are standing. "Link can then transport himself to that point at any time. Only one travel point can be registered on the map at a time," Nintendo said.
There are also new masks, including a Korosk mask. The mask shakes when you're close to a hidden Korok seed. There are 900 in the game and collecting them all earns you a pile of poop. Lastly, the Master Trials adds eight new pieces of equipment inspired by characters from past games in the series, including Tingle, of course.
No release date beyond summer was announced for The Master Trials. Details on the next Breath of the Wild expansion coming this holiday will be announced later.
Here's a full rundown of what's in The Master Trials, with descriptions written by Nintendo:
Trial of the Sword: By accessing this location, players can challenge the new Trial of the Sword (previously known as "Cave of Trials Challenge"), where enemies appear one after another. Link starts without any armor or weapons, and if he defeats all of the enemies in the room he can proceed to the next area. Trial of the Sword will include around 45 total rooms for players to complete. When Link clears all of the trials, the true power of the Master Sword will awaken and always be in its glowing powered-up state.
Hard Mode: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is already considered one of the most thrilling games in The Legend of Zelda series, and fans looking for a challenge are in for a treat with the new Hard Mode. In Hard Mode, the "ranks" of enemies in the game are increased (i.e. Red Bokoblins change to Blue), and players might even encounter higher-ranking enemies they wouldn't find through normal play. Enemies will also slowly recover health in battle, forcing you to defeat them more quickly. They will also more easily spot Link as he approaches them, making these enemies tougher to sneak up on. In addition, floating planks held aloft by balloons will be scattered around Hyrule. By successfully reaching these planks, players can battle enemies and collect treasure.
Hero's Path Mode: Exploring Hyrule is exciting, but with such a large world it's sometimes hard for players to remember where they've been. To help with tracking progress, the new Hero's Path Mode will document every step players take, and mark their path in green on the map. The route taken will be tracked for the player's last 200 hours of play time, with an included slider to track footsteps on a timeline. This even works retroactively, so players that have already put many hours into the game will be able to see where they have traveled. This feature will help in identifying the locations they haven't visited in this vast world, and may help players find those Shrines they haven't encountered yet.
Travel Medallion: There will be a new treasure chest somewhere in the game world which contains the Travel Medallion. With the Travel Medallion, players can create a temporary new travel point on the map where they are currently standing. Link can then transport himself to that point at any time. Only one travel point can be registered on the map at a time.
Korok Mask: By finding the new Korok Mask, players will have a much easier time finding Korok locations in the game. When equipped, the mask will shake, indicating that a Korok is hidden somewhere nearby.
New Equipment: Eight new pieces of equipment inspired by previous characters and games in the series will be added to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild after downloading the first DLC pack. Once discovered by the player, they will yield equipment themed after fan-favorite games and characters such as Midna, Tingle, Phantom and Majora's Mask.
Netflix has released a new trailer for House of Cards Season 5 and so much is going on. If you are not caught up on House of Cards, it might be best to avoid this new video. Spoilers below the video.
Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) is the President of the United States--and he's facing some tough times, it seems. "The American people don't know what's best for them," he says, as scenes of protesters standing outside the White House carrying "Never Underwood" signs gather.
"They're like little children," he says to Claire (Robin Wright). "We have to hold their sticky fingers and wipe their filthy mouths. Teach them right from wrong. Tell them what to think and how to feel and what to want. They even need help writing their wildest dreams."
"One nation, Underwood."
As Frank is saying all of this, dramatic scenes play like Frank meeting someone in some kind of institution, Frank and Claire attending a wedding, Frank meeting with someone in secret in the rain, and so much more.
There are a handful of great deals on PC hardware this week, but like most sales, there's a limited window of opportunity. Even PC enthusiasts need to be smart with their hard-earned cash. So, if you're in the market for a new video card, power supply, high-refresh monitor, or set of RAM sticks, you'll want to check out these deals we found.
A price tag of $480 may be steep for some, but considering that this a 144Hz monitor that displays 1440p, it's not so bad. This Dell monitor typically retails for $600, so $120 off is a hefty cut. It also features Nvidia G-Sync, measures at 27 inches, and has thin bezels. Just make sure you have a system strong enough to get the most of its robust features.
If you're looking for a high-end card that isn't going to break the bank, the GTX 1070 should fit the bill. This particular model from EVGA is on sale for Amazon Prime members. It's a superclocked version, so you'll get a little more performance out it than the reference model. Take note that this deal is only available to Amazon Prime members.
The GTX 1060 is a great mid-range graphics card, but it's a bit hard to find under $200. This particular SKU from EVGA is a miniature version, measuring in at 6.8 inches, but it packs most of the punch of other GTX 1060 models. It's equipped with 3GB of VRAM and only has one fan for cooling, so just make extra sure that your system has adequate airflow.
Memory prices are still higher than they've been in the recent past, but if you need a few RAM sticks right now, the Team Vulcan pair is under $100 for now. These are two 8GB sticks of DDR4 that'll run a stock speed of 2400MHz. Be sure to use the promo code to get this pair for $95.
Corsair is known for reliable power supplies, and its CX series is generally reputable. 600 watts of juice is plenty for most standard setups with one video card; it's even enough for the beefy GTX 1080 Ti. Note that this specific model is not modular, so keeping those cables tidy might be challenging.
Now is your opportunity to cover your entire desk with mouse pad surface for cheap! This mouse mat is three feet wide and one foot long, so make sure you have the desk space for it. The deal is only available to Prime members.
Logitech's K400 could make your home theater PC set up a lot more convenient with a keyboard and trackpad integrated into one wireless device. The K400 has a range of 33 feet and connects to Windows, Android, and Chrome devices. Batteries are included, but be sure to have a few AAs on hand since this keyboard doesn't recharge on its own.
Gears of War 4 developer The Coalition has detailed the game's next update, which launches on May 2. Starting off, the free update adds a brand-new map called Dawn, as well as a new version of the Gears of War 2 map Security. You can see these in the video embedded above.
Dawn is set around an abandoned mining colony. It has two major areas to hold, including a high-ground hideout and an "entrenched mine on the low side," Microsoft said in a blog post. The powerful Dropshot weapon spawns in an area surrounded with flanking opportunities, so grabbing it won't be easy--but rewarding if you're able to do so.
As for the returning map, Security is the first classic Gears of War 2 map to come to Gears of War 4. "This new reimagined setting for Security takes you to a fight over a glorious decadent COG depository, with stacks of gold bars providing makeshift cover throughout the map," Microsoft said. "Defensive lasers bar access to key parts of the map, so prepare for a tough fight for the button that disables the lasers to give your team control over the flow of combat."
You can read this Xbox Wire post to learn more about how Security is changed for Gears of War 4.
In addition to the maps, Gears of War 4's May update introduces multi-GPU support for Windows 10. Microsoft said it had been "hard at work" to deliver this feature, which the company says can "really push the stunning visuals of Gears of War 4."
It won't be available right away alongside the update, but also coming to Gears of War 4 this month is a new Gear Pack for a zombie version of Ben Carmine, who died in Gears of War 2. The card is pretty gross-looking, as it even shows Carmine's missing innards.
Currently, the only way to get the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remaster, Modern Warfare Remastered, is to pick up premium versions of Infinite Warfare. That might change soon, however.
Since-removed product pages on GameFly spotted by CharlieIntel suggest that Activision might be planning to offer Modern Warfare Remastered on its own. A page for the PS4 edition apparently showed a launch date of June 30, with an Xbox One version said to come a month later, on July 30.
If the game is indeed seeing a standalone release, the different launch dates could be the result of Activision's exclusivity deal with Sony. All Call of Duty DLC now launches first on PS4 before coming to other platforms later. New installments in the mainline series, however, have been released simultaneously, so this would be a change of form, in a way.
Bear in mind that none of this is confirmed at this stage. Activision has never said that it won't offer Modern Warfare Remastered on its eventually, but it also never said it would. We have contacted Activision in an attempt to get more details.
The GameFly product pages for Modern Warfare Remastered don't mention a price. It seems unlikely that it would be a full-price game, with something in the range of $20-$40 seeming more likely. If Modern Warfare Remastered is indeed getting a standalone release, presumably it would also come to PC.
Modern Warfare Remastered contains the entire campaign from the 2007 original, updated with new graphics, as well as a similarly updated multiplayer mode. Activision is also releasing DLC for Modern Warfare Remastered, with the Variety Map Pack arriving in March.

Studio boss Michael Condrey confirmed this for Call of Duty: WWII in a tweet (via CharlieIntel), responding to a fan who asked if there would be female characters in the game's multiplayer.
According to another Call of Duty developer, Infinity Ward, technical limitations for character customization kept female characters out of past Call of Duty games.
